- 2:48Speaker 3: association with this week's Adopt Me Please Pet of the Week. Angie,
- 2:52Speaker 3: Good morning.
- 2:53Speaker 5: Good morning, Thank you for being here.
- 2:55Speaker 3: First of all, I got to ask you, how was
- 2:58Speaker 3: Texas and Tales last week?
- 3:00Speaker 6: Tuxes and Tails despite the weather was so fun and
- 3:04Speaker 6: so successful. I think the weather kind of contributed to
- 3:07Speaker 6: the time people had because we were all crowded inside
- 3:10Speaker 6: of the Ruffner hiding out from the rain. So it
- 3:13Speaker 6: was very fun, very successful, and we all had a.
- 3:16Speaker 3: Great night and I saw a lot of pictures. I
- 3:18Speaker 3: was unable to attend this year, but I did see
- 3:19Speaker 3: a whole lot of pictures online and I could tell
- 3:21Speaker 3: you it looked like people were having a fantastic time
- 3:25Speaker 3: fundraiser there for you folks. And also one of the
- 3:28Speaker 3: very very nice venues here in the Charleston area.
- 3:31Speaker 6: Absolutely yet this was our first year at the Rouughner
- 3:34Speaker 6: and it was absolute perfection. It was such a beautiful
- 3:38Speaker 6: venue at that And also I want to mention at
- 3:41Speaker 6: Tuxas and tail someone came up to me and said,
- 3:43Speaker 6: I listened to you on the radio every Friday, so we.
- 3:48Speaker 3: Have a listener. Is that what you're saying. There's someone
- 3:50Speaker 3: listening to this.
- 3:51Speaker 6: Yeah, so Carol, if you're listening, hello.
- 3:53Speaker 3: Well, had I known that this people were actually listening,
- 3:56Speaker 3: I probably would have worn a better shirt. So let's
- 4:01Speaker 3: talk about our ad me please Pet of the week.
- 4:03Speaker 3: As always, we have our pets picture posted over on
- 4:07Speaker 3: my social media. It's Dave Allen Radio. It's also on
- 4:09Speaker 3: the WCCHS Network Facebook page and it is on my
- 4:13Speaker 3: x page formerly Twitter, and that is at dave A Sevadi.
- 4:17Speaker 3: Fergie is our dog this week, Fergie's got an interesting
- 4:20Speaker 3: story and she gotta let you take it from there.
- 4:24Speaker 6: I'm so excited to talk about Fergie. She is my
- 4:26Speaker 6: favorite shelter pet over which is a huge title. But
- 4:30Speaker 6: Bergie came to us as astray about a year ago,
- 4:34Speaker 6: and she is a prefers people over pets kind of dog,
- 4:37Speaker 6: So it took her a little longer to fignd a
- 4:39Speaker 6: home and she finally was adopted and then she gave
- 4:43Speaker 6: her adopt a health scare. Her adopt unfortunately could not
- 4:48Speaker 6: afford the type of care that was needed and fell
- 4:52Speaker 6: on some hard times herself and just wasn't in the
- 4:54Speaker 6: position to have a dog anymore, which is, you know,
- 4:57Speaker 6: totally understandable. So we took for thank you back. We
- 5:00Speaker 6: got her treated. We are thinking she has a form
- 5:04Speaker 6: of leukemia. So while her time here is probably not
- 5:07Speaker 6: going to be that long, she deserves the best years
- 5:10Speaker 6: that she can in her time that we have with her.
- 5:14Speaker 6: Uh But anyway, she got a blood transfusion from a
- 5:16Speaker 6: donor dog in our shelter named Bear. And now she
- 5:20Speaker 6: is feeling much better. She's back to her normal fergie self,
- 5:23Speaker 6: wanting to play with toys, running around, and she also
- 5:26Speaker 6: grunts and groans a lot. She's back to normal now.
- 5:33Speaker 6: I'm so thankful she's feeling better. So you should really
- 5:38Speaker 6: consider Fergie if you have kids and no other pets.
- 5:41Speaker 6: She is just truly one of the best dogs.
- 5:42Speaker 3: I've ever met, do you know? I have to say?
- 5:44Speaker 3: And you told me that when you gave me the
- 5:46Speaker 3: information about Fergie that she had to have a blood transfusion,
- 5:49Speaker 3: and I didn't know why. I guess my mind just
- 5:53Speaker 3: wasn't wrapping itself around the fact that dogs and other
- 5:57Speaker 3: animals can can do what humans can do as far
- 6:00Speaker 3: as they go as far as giving giving blood and
- 6:02Speaker 3: things like that. It's something I never really thought of.
- 6:04Speaker 6: Absolutely they can. And there were a lot of questions
- 6:08Speaker 6: last week, like do dogs have different blood types like people?
- 6:11Speaker 6: They do, and it's pretty similar, so you can only
- 6:14Speaker 6: give one particular blood type to you know this other
- 6:18Speaker 6: particular blood type kind of similar in humans, except dogs
- 6:21Speaker 6: have many more blood types than we do.
- 6:24Speaker 3: See, this has been a learning experience and she because
- 6:26Speaker 3: I had no I had no idea that they that
- 6:29Speaker 3: they were as complex as we. I mean, they're you know,
- 6:32Speaker 3: I was gonna say dogs are humans, but I was
- 6:34Speaker 3: going to say, is that humans are animals. Basically we
- 6:36Speaker 3: have a lot in common. We have a lot more
- 6:37Speaker 3: in common than what than what we think. So Fergie
- 6:40Speaker 3: is doing okay now, but I do think we need
- 6:42Speaker 3: to throw it out there that she's probably not going
- 6:47Speaker 3: to have long, as you said, but who knows. I
- 6:49Speaker 3: mean we've seen you know, in humans too. You see
- 6:51Speaker 3: people he's got six months. Well no, they live, you know,
- 6:54Speaker 3: another twenty years. You just never know, never know what
- 6:58Speaker 3: the heavens have in mind.
- 7:00Speaker 6: Absolutely, it's all up to fate, because like I said,
- 7:04Speaker 6: Fergie's probably my favorite dog that we've ever had in
- 7:06Speaker 6: the shelter. So I had my little crying session about like, oh,
- 7:10Speaker 6: you know, she's probably not gotlong. She's probably not you know,
- 7:13Speaker 6: this blood transfusion may or may not work, and despite
- 7:17Speaker 6: all the odds of that possibly being a solution, she
- 7:21Speaker 6: has done a full one to eighty and is back
- 7:22Speaker 6: to her normal self. So if you just leave it
- 7:24Speaker 6: up to fate and put.
- 7:26Speaker 3: Your faith in that, so well, Fergie's a beautiful dog.
- 7:29Speaker 3: What kind of dog is Fergy?
- 7:31Speaker 6: So we aren't one hundred percent sure. My guess is
- 7:34Speaker 6: probably like an American bulldog, maybe like Pity mix. She's
- 7:38Speaker 6: very stout and strong, so she's I would say, in
- 7:44Speaker 6: the Bully family for sure.
- 7:46Speaker 3: I had a text here for you, Angie that says,
- 7:47Speaker 3: will you have some animals at the V one hundred
- 7:50Speaker 3: and or East End yard sales tomorrow? And if so,
- 7:53Speaker 3: will you be able to take some donations to take
- 7:54Speaker 3: back to the shelter with you.
- 7:57Speaker 6: So I have not been personally invited out to if
- 8:00Speaker 6: we are welcome to come out and set up, I
- 8:02Speaker 6: would be glad.
- 8:02Speaker 3: Well, how about I just talked to it when Steve
- 8:04Speaker 3: Bishop and Jenny Murray, they're in the next segment to
- 8:06Speaker 3: talk about how about I just asked them on the
- 8:08Speaker 3: air that way. They have a hard time saying no.
- 8:11Speaker 6: Absolutely, I was gonna say, pressure them into.
- 8:13Speaker 3: The And I also, I have somebody that's gonna be
- 8:16Speaker 3: coming on for the East End yard Sale later on
- 8:17Speaker 3: in the show too, so I'll ask her and if
- 8:19Speaker 3: they have the space, I'm sure they'll make it available.
- 8:21Speaker 3: And this same person that texted this texted earlier this
- 8:24Speaker 3: week and said that with these yard sales going on,
- 8:26Speaker 3: particularly the V one hundred yard sale, but I think
- 8:28Speaker 3: the East End yard sale too, they have got they'll
- 8:31Speaker 3: have some things set up there if people don't want
- 8:33Speaker 3: to take things back and they'd like to take the donations.
- 8:37Speaker 3: And someone had suggested that if somebody brings some towels
- 8:40Speaker 3: in or blankets or something like that, they suggested that
- 8:44Speaker 3: it might be a very good idea to, you know,
- 8:47Speaker 3: have those things taken to the shelter later, because you
- 8:50Speaker 3: guys are always needing things like that.
- 8:52Speaker 6: Absolutely, we just hit five hundred and two animals in
- 8:55Speaker 6: our care yesterday, so any type of supplies we are
- 8:59Speaker 6: running through quickly.
- 9:00Speaker 3: Well, going back to the blood situation, someone texted in
- 9:03Speaker 3: here and said, cats in a vet office are donor.
- 9:06Speaker 3: Cats usually universal donors. That's about cats.
- 9:09Speaker 6: So, oh, that is interesting. I didn't know that about cats.
- 9:13Speaker 3: It's like a regular wild kingdom here on the show today.
- 9:16Speaker 3: We're an animal planet.
- 9:17Speaker 5: Man.
- 9:17Speaker 3: We're learning all kinds of stuff. All right, let's get
- 9:19Speaker 3: to the numbers. The numbers, Angie, aren't good as far
- 9:23Speaker 3: as the overcrowding. You guys, I understand, can only at
- 9:25Speaker 3: this point take in sick and injured animals.
- 9:27Speaker 6: Right, correct, We are limited to sick and injured just
- 9:31Speaker 6: because we only have so much space. And like I said,
- 9:35Speaker 6: yesterday we hit five hundred and two. Who knows what
- 9:38Speaker 6: today has in sore for us, So we're going to
- 9:41Speaker 6: be hitting more than critical level.
- 9:43Speaker 3: And there was another seizure this week. There were ten
- 9:46Speaker 3: dogs taken in from a home and big props to
- 9:49Speaker 3: officials from Charleston, South Charleston and Saint albans Off for
- 9:52Speaker 3: getting together and helping helping out talk about that.
- 9:55Speaker 6: Yes, so those ten dogs were, yes, abandoned, but not
- 9:59Speaker 6: quite I had abandon but that's a lot of stickiness
- 10:03Speaker 6: that we won't get.
- 10:04Speaker 3: In, right, Yeah, I got you, I got you. Bottom
- 10:06Speaker 3: line is there. They're at the shelter now, correct, And
- 10:09Speaker 3: they are.
- 10:10Speaker 6: They're all such sweet dogs. We've got a good group
- 10:13Speaker 6: of adults, good group of puppies from that one situation.
- 10:16Speaker 6: And actually yesterday a lot of them had been adopted
- 10:20Speaker 6: but by the time we left, but there's still a
- 10:22Speaker 6: couple left. Did you see any Harry Potter names on
- 10:25Speaker 6: our on our website? That is that group.
- 10:28Speaker 3: That's what see. This is the first week I think
- 10:30Speaker 3: in three or four that I haven't had to bring
- 10:31Speaker 3: the senior producer in here, Ryan to explain to me
- 10:34Speaker 3: what the name meant. I know what Fergie means. That
- 10:37Speaker 3: one I got. I know what Fergie. I recognize that name.
- 10:40Speaker 3: Some of these names you guys come up with her
- 10:42Speaker 3: way over my head because I'm you know, old, uh
- 10:45Speaker 3: but uh uh, Angie. I do appreciate you taking time
- 10:49Speaker 3: out of your schedule to be here.
- 10:49Speaker 7: I know.
- 10:50Speaker 3: Bottom line is, though, you you definitely need some people
- 10:54Speaker 3: to adopt or foster or something to help alleviate the
- 10:57Speaker 3: numbers up there.
- 10:58Speaker 6: Correct, I say, adopt, foster, volunteer, donate, share.
- 11:02Speaker 3: Even if you can just get some of the animals
- 11:04Speaker 3: out of there for you know, a day or two.
- 11:07Speaker 3: I mean, it gives you folks time to be able
- 11:10Speaker 3: to maybe clean some cages, to breathe a little bit.
- 11:13Speaker 3: If somebody could just come and pick up a dog,
- 11:15Speaker 3: it's going to be a gorgeous weekend here in the
- 11:17Speaker 3: Kanaw Valley for Mother's Day. Why not get in touch
- 11:20Speaker 3: with the folks at the shelter. Maybe you can't take
- 11:22Speaker 3: a dog in at your house completely understand that you're
- 11:24Speaker 3: all dogged up at this point, or cat it up,
- 11:27Speaker 3: or you just live in an apartment or something you
- 11:28Speaker 3: can't have one. It would be a great opportunity, Angie,
- 11:32Speaker 3: for people on this beautiful weekend to get in touch
- 11:34Speaker 3: with you and say, hey, i'd i'd like to become
- 11:36Speaker 3: a foster, if not for this weekend, for the future,
- 11:37Speaker 3: I'd like to take the dog down to the dog park.
- 11:39Speaker 3: I'd like to take it, you know, walking on the
- 11:41Speaker 3: boulevard or something like that.
- 11:44Speaker 6: Absolutely, we do the Borrow a Buddy program where you
- 11:47Speaker 6: can literally check a dog out for a couple of
- 11:49Speaker 6: hours for the day, whatever you'd like. Not only does
- 11:53Speaker 6: it give our staff kind of time to exhale, but
- 11:55Speaker 6: it's also a great stress relief for the particular dog
- 11:58Speaker 6: that you're taking out.
- 11:59Speaker 3: Some animals just don't do well. And you and I
- 12:01Speaker 3: have talked about this in the past with with shelter life,
- 12:03Speaker 3: and I can imagine, I mean, you know, you're you're
- 12:06Speaker 3: used to you know, whatever your background was, and all
- 12:09Speaker 3: of a sudden you're stuck in a cage and there's
- 12:11Speaker 3: you know, as you said, how many how many dogs
- 12:13Speaker 3: do you have now dogs?
- 12:15Speaker 6: I'd say we're probably in the two hundreds.
- 12:17Speaker 3: Two hundred and some other dogs and they're yelping and
- 12:19Speaker 3: they're barking, and I mean, I can't you have told
- 12:21Speaker 3: me stories before about some of these animals that have
- 12:24Speaker 3: an incredible transformation the minute that they they don't even
- 12:28Speaker 3: have to get to the house, the minute that they
- 12:30Speaker 3: that they step outside and see sunshine and see grass,
- 12:35Speaker 3: it's amazing. It's amazing for them.
- 12:37Speaker 6: Absolutely, if you go to our shelter, you'll see a
- 12:40Speaker 6: lot of stickers that are like, I'm a different dog
- 12:41Speaker 6: outside my kennel. I used to get me out, and
- 12:44Speaker 6: as soon as they get out of the kennel, it's
- 12:46Speaker 6: completely different dog. They are calm, they're relaxed, they're loose.
- 12:50Speaker 6: So definitely, getting these dogs out is very important.
- 12:54Speaker 3: All right, And she is always a pleasure to talk
- 12:58Speaker 3: to you, and we will talk again next week. Thanks
- 13:00Speaker 3: a lot, thank you.
- 13:02Speaker 6: I have a good one, all right.
- 13:03Speaker 3: Angel Gillawater from the Canal Charleston New Main Association. Fergie
- 13:06Speaker 3: is our dog this week. Adopted once before, but had
- 13:10Speaker 3: to be brought back because he was sick and his
- 13:14Speaker 3: new owners couldn't afford his care. Seems to be doing
- 13:16Speaker 3: well now, but we're not gonna lie. It seems like
- 13:19Speaker 3: the dog may have. You know, we don't know how
- 13:21Speaker 3: much longer the dog has got He's currently not she
- 13:24Speaker 3: I should say it's not sick now. But if you've
- 13:29Speaker 3: got this dog absolutely loves to be around people, especially kids.
- 13:34Speaker 3: So if you want to adopt Fergie, I've got her
- 13:37Speaker 3: picture posted over Dave Allan Radio on Facebook and at
- 13:40Speaker 3: Dave A seventy on x Also, I get Fergie's picture
- 13:43Speaker 3: posted on the w CHS network Facebook page. Go check
- 13:46Speaker 3: her out. She's four years old, she's spade, She's up
- 13:48Speaker 3: to date on all of her shots. Not so good
- 13:51Speaker 3: with other pets, but she does love people and she
- 13:54Speaker 3: loves kids. Let's go and let's try to get Fergie home.

- 16:15Speaker 3: Steve Well, it's a gift man, Steve Bishop and Jenny Murray.
- 16:19Speaker 4: By the way, we're brought to you by I don't
- 16:21Speaker 4: know who, but our two legs.
- 16:25Speaker 3: I got Broadcasting Hall of Famers in my presence here.
- 16:27Speaker 9: Oh you'll be in there someday, don't worry.
- 16:30Speaker 3: No, probably not. And I just happened to think that
- 16:33Speaker 3: I think this is the first time that I have
- 16:35Speaker 3: ever interviewed you two together.
- 16:37Speaker 11: Yeah, and this is the first time in the new
- 16:38Speaker 11: studio for I mean, I've been in here, but not
- 16:40Speaker 11: on the radio.
- 16:41Speaker 3: Yeah, what do you think?
- 16:42Speaker 9: I love it? I thought the fake brick in here
- 16:45Speaker 9: was going to look atrocious.
- 16:47Speaker 3: It's genuine simulated brick.
- 16:49Speaker 4: Yeah, I don't call it fake.
- 16:50Speaker 11: That's all right, the genuine thing, the whole thing, the
- 16:53Speaker 11: genuine simulated brick.
- 16:55Speaker 4: If you didn't tell anybody who would know.
- 16:58Speaker 3: Well, we had an incident a couple of weeks ago,
- 17:00Speaker 3: oddly enough, when we were interviewing doctor Casey Sachs of
- 17:03Speaker 3: a Bridge Valley and studio, and she asked if the
- 17:06Speaker 3: brick were real, and Steve Animal happened to be hanging
- 17:10Speaker 3: out in the producer's studio, and Steve walked in, licked
- 17:14Speaker 3: the brick, and then got on a microphone and said,
- 17:16Speaker 3: it's not real.
- 17:19Speaker 9: Like he would know what brick would taste like.
- 17:21Speaker 3: The man's licked a lot of bricks in his time,
- 17:23Speaker 3: that's all.
- 17:23Speaker 12: I don't know.
- 17:24Speaker 9: I'd be proud of that.
- 17:25Speaker 4: By the way, Jenny sounds like she's been drinking whiskey
- 17:27Speaker 4: and smoking cigarettes, and when she laughs, she sounds like she's,
- 17:31Speaker 4: you know, messed up.
- 17:33Speaker 9: Yeah I'm not, and I.
- 17:36Speaker 4: Have the same thing. So when we laugh, if y'all think, God,
- 17:39Speaker 4: they need to go to the doctor, you're probably right
- 17:41Speaker 4: about that.
- 17:42Speaker 9: Ain't nobody got time for that.
- 17:43Speaker 3: Is it like like pollen things?
- 17:46Speaker 4: You know what it is? For me, it's all the
- 17:48Speaker 4: construction they're doing in the building. Oh okay, so progress
- 17:52Speaker 4: means Steve has problems. But that's okay. I like the
- 17:56Speaker 4: progress that they're doing.
- 17:57Speaker 3: So you guys got a new studio downstairs too, right,
- 18:00Speaker 3: it's our new temporary That's why we sound like we do, right, Yeah, okay, okay,
- 18:03Speaker 3: that's why we laugh like this. You know, It's always
- 18:06Speaker 3: been my contention that sometimes in radio stations. But I mean,
- 18:11Speaker 3: don't get me wrong. I love what we got here,
- 18:12Speaker 3: but sometimes when when you start moving things that haven't
- 18:15Speaker 3: been moved in a number of.
- 18:16Speaker 4: Years, thirty plus years of dust.
- 18:18Speaker 3: As they started, we found that.
- 18:19Speaker 9: Was fifty years old.
- 18:20Speaker 3: Yeah, guarantee, we found it over here. They broke out
- 18:23Speaker 3: their production tree. They found two announcers for the nineteen
- 18:25Speaker 3: seventies that had been in there since.
- 18:27Speaker 11: Like, we found audio tape that had been spliced stuck
- 18:31Speaker 11: to the wall when they pulled the cap.
- 18:32Speaker 4: Yeah, it was funny because we were like scratching our heads,
- 18:35Speaker 4: going like how did how did that happen? We've been
- 18:38Speaker 4: working in that room the whole time.
- 18:40Speaker 3: Except for the revered a few brief times.
- 18:43Speaker 4: I came over here to work, and somehow I wound
- 18:45Speaker 4: back up over there at V one hundred.
- 18:47Speaker 3: By the way, how long have you guys been together
- 18:49Speaker 3: at V one hundred?
- 18:50Speaker 4: Since she started working with me in nineteen eighty nine
- 18:53Speaker 4: doing the news, and then we became a team like
- 18:57Speaker 4: Steve and Jenny in about nineteen ninety eight, ninety nine,
- 19:02Speaker 4: somewhere probably about that in the late nineties.
- 19:04Speaker 3: You think it'll work out.
- 19:06Speaker 9: It might, it might not.
- 19:08Speaker 4: Every day she threatens to leave me walk, but you're
- 19:11Speaker 4: still here.
- 19:12Speaker 11: Our big boss, Dale Miller at the time, former big Boss,
- 19:15Speaker 11: former Big Boss.
- 19:16Speaker 9: He said, Jenny, I need you to help Steve. Please.
- 19:20Speaker 9: You're the only person who can handle him. So that's
- 19:23Speaker 9: where I've been.
- 19:24Speaker 3: And it's maybe made somebody mad in a former life
- 19:28Speaker 3: or something, and this is yourn but this is your punishment,
- 19:31Speaker 3: all right. We consider and talk radio stories all day,
- 19:33Speaker 3: but let's talk yard sales. The V one hundred yard
- 19:37Speaker 3: Sale either Way presented by Poka Valley, presented by Poco Valley.
- 19:40Speaker 3: I need another sponsor on the ship, presented by the
- 19:42Speaker 3: folks of PoCA Valley, So Ladleyfield, Charleston it's tomorrow. Eight
- 19:46Speaker 3: am is when it begins. Yes, sir, I've been preaching
- 19:49Speaker 3: all week because Bobby Spry, who was looking at us
- 19:51Speaker 3: through the glass there, gave me this handy dandy little
- 19:54Speaker 3: sheet which I think came from you. And one of
- 19:57Speaker 3: the things is, don't show up if you're vender at
- 19:59Speaker 3: eight o'clock. Get there before that.
- 20:01Speaker 4: Oh yeah, because people want to roll in sometimes like
- 20:05Speaker 4: right then, and that makes it hard to do it
- 20:08Speaker 4: because you know you need to be set up ready
- 20:11Speaker 4: to go.
- 20:11Speaker 3: Now, the question, the big question is is is it
- 20:14Speaker 3: too late to be a vendor at this point that
- 20:15Speaker 3: you sold out?
- 20:16Speaker 4: Yes?
- 20:16Speaker 3: Okay, I figured were how many vendors you got?
- 20:18Speaker 4: Approximate probably around fifty. So some people rent more than
- 20:22Speaker 4: one space, and every space is a parking space.
- 20:24Speaker 3: And okay at late Lyfield, so all it goes all
- 20:27Speaker 3: across the board of about the different things they tell
- 20:30Speaker 3: you on the entry for what they're bringing.
- 20:31Speaker 4: Here, I didn't I don't ask people. I did ask yesterday,
- 20:34Speaker 4: but I don't ask people to what they're going to sell.
- 20:37Speaker 4: I just tell them what they can't sell, which is
- 20:39Speaker 4: anything illegal, counterfeit or dangerous as far as threatening life.
- 20:44Speaker 3: We'll save that for the ninety eight to seven the
- 20:46Speaker 3: Mountain yard Sale.
- 20:47Speaker 4: Yes, right, well, you know it's you just got to
- 20:51Speaker 4: make sure you mentioned that that certain things are kind
- 20:54Speaker 4: of not a good idea, right, But generally speaking, over
- 20:59Speaker 4: the years, we haven't had anything that I went, you
- 21:01Speaker 4: can't do that.
- 21:03Speaker 3: When did it start? When did it be one hundred
- 21:05Speaker 3: yards sales stories?
- 21:06Speaker 4: It started in the probably nineteen ninety three, ninety four,
- 21:11Speaker 4: something like that. The whole thing started as a joke
- 21:14Speaker 4: my former wife. We moved, we moved from our house
- 21:17Speaker 4: in Tayese Valley out to the middle of nowhere in
- 21:19Speaker 4: the country, and so she she's like, we need I
- 21:22Speaker 4: want to have a yard sale, but nobody's gonna Nobody
- 21:25Speaker 4: even knows where we live. They won't find us. And
- 21:27Speaker 4: we you know. So I was talking about that on
- 21:29Speaker 4: the radio and Big Joe, who used to work with
- 21:31Speaker 4: this A lot of people remember him from here and
- 21:34Speaker 4: and his barre downtown on Capitol Street. Great Big Joe goes, well,
- 21:38Speaker 4: don't you just have one outside here, you know, at
- 21:40Speaker 4: the station here. We were in Kanas City at the time,
- 21:43Speaker 4: and I went, you know, that could work. So, to
- 21:46Speaker 4: make a long story short, it evolved from that where
- 21:49Speaker 4: people when they heard us saying we're gonna have this
- 21:51Speaker 4: yard sale, they went, can we come and bring our
- 21:53Speaker 4: stuff too? And that's how it all. That's how it
- 21:56Speaker 4: all started.
- 21:57Speaker 3: And for the vendors because and I've talked about this
- 21:59Speaker 3: throughout the week, two guys, is for the vendors that
- 22:02Speaker 3: maybe have stuff and they don't want to haul it
- 22:04Speaker 3: back or whatever. Uh, we got our good friends, some
- 22:07Speaker 3: of our good friends there that are going to Mountain Mission.
- 22:10Speaker 3: Mountain Mission will be on.
- 22:11Speaker 4: The Mountain Mission is coming. I always just ask the people,
- 22:13Speaker 4: I say, please don't turn it into like I don't
- 22:16Speaker 4: want to take this because it's trash. Give them something
- 22:18Speaker 4: they can use and sell. And right, yeah, they're you know,
- 22:22Speaker 4: their secondhand store or whatever. I forget what they call it,
- 22:24Speaker 4: but you know what I mean. So so that's what
- 22:27Speaker 4: they send a truck over for.
- 22:28Speaker 3: But Dave Island showing five Indyline brought to you apart
- 22:30Speaker 3: by Morgan and Morgan, America's largest injury law firm. All right,
- 22:34Speaker 3: so bring that cash register again, bring that cash See
- 22:38Speaker 3: how many of them holding up there? I want it's
- 22:41Speaker 3: a good thing. It's a good problem to have, all right.
- 22:43Speaker 3: So One. Another thing you can't sell is food because
- 22:46Speaker 3: you've got a food vendor.
- 22:46Speaker 4: Now we have. It's the same food vendor we've had
- 22:49Speaker 4: for I don't know how many years, but they're they're
- 22:52Speaker 4: still around and they're coming back. We haven't done this
- 22:54Speaker 4: for probably six years.
- 22:55Speaker 3: All right, So to the because as I said, we're
- 22:57Speaker 3: sold out as far as vendors go. But what what's
- 22:59Speaker 3: your advice to the public. What does the public need
- 23:01Speaker 3: to know about it?
- 23:02Speaker 4: Come at eight o'clock and be ready to find anything
- 23:04Speaker 4: and everything. I did ask some people yesterday that are
- 23:07Speaker 4: selling what they have. And then we've got a lady
- 23:10Speaker 4: with an old milk can. Somebody has an automatic litter
- 23:13Speaker 4: box that they would like to take cat not included
- 23:16Speaker 4: to not take home. Yeah. I don't know what the
- 23:18Speaker 4: story is there, but I asked him, I said, tell
- 23:20Speaker 4: me the one thing that you don't want to take
- 23:23Speaker 4: home tomorrow. What's yours? Jenny?
- 23:24Speaker 11: I have a turkey fryar brand new, never taken out
- 23:28Speaker 11: of the box.
- 23:29Speaker 4: Lost her mind, bought a turkey fryor And then what
- 23:31Speaker 4: about what am I doing?
- 23:33Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 23:33Speaker 11: All fry turkey, No, you won't. I spent sixty bucks
- 23:36Speaker 11: on it, so thirty firm.
- 23:39Speaker 4: Yeah, she's not willing to negotiate him.
- 23:41Speaker 9: So don't get back.
- 23:42Speaker 4: Don't come up and ask for it and say, hey,
- 23:44Speaker 4: you got the turkey fryer. I'll give you a dime
- 23:46Speaker 4: for it. No.
- 23:47Speaker 2: Oh.
- 23:47Speaker 11: I also have some officially licensed Disney Jaba They look
- 23:53Speaker 11: like like squishmellows, but they're Disney things.
- 23:56Speaker 4: Officially licensed. Now you can sell like knockoffs. I mean,
- 23:59Speaker 4: you can't sell counter stuff now to throw you out.
- 24:02Speaker 9: The real deal. I got a whole bunch of those.
- 24:05Speaker 6: You know.
- 24:05Speaker 3: The the thing about yard sales and flea markets or
- 24:08Speaker 3: whatever is they used to be a lot bigger deal.
- 24:11Speaker 3: But because of social media, now every community has got
- 24:13Speaker 3: their own Oh okay, they got their own page.
- 24:16Speaker 4: I have furnished my house with Facebook Marketplace furniture. I'm
- 24:19Speaker 4: not kidding. And it's actually good stuff that I used
- 24:22Speaker 4: to have when I was married and didn't it didn't
- 24:26Speaker 4: go with me, so I just thought, and can't find
- 24:28Speaker 4: anything else I like. I like this, I'm going to
- 24:32Speaker 4: buy it from other people. So that's what I've been
- 24:34Speaker 4: doing well.
- 24:35Speaker 3: But there's always it's kind of like the argument guys
- 24:37Speaker 3: when people say, well, shopping malls are dead. And I
- 24:40Speaker 3: say that's not true because there's always an argument for people.
- 24:43Speaker 3: There's always going to be people that like to go
- 24:45Speaker 3: and like to look at stuff, they like to actually
- 24:47Speaker 3: hold it and they And that's the thing about the
- 24:49Speaker 3: whole Facebook yard sale. I know people have a lot
- 24:51Speaker 3: of success. My brother in law does killer things on
- 24:54Speaker 3: Facebook yard see.
- 24:55Speaker 4: I know that's way successful.
- 24:56Speaker 3: You know, you know there's something to be said for
- 24:58Speaker 3: being able to look at the owner and you jumping
- 25:00Speaker 3: up in saying, Jenny, why didn't you use this turkey?
- 25:03Speaker 4: You just yeah, you just can't beat the in person
- 25:06Speaker 4: house down shopping experience. And you know, the cool thing
- 25:11Speaker 4: tomorrow with ours at Laidley Field And we're on that
- 25:13Speaker 4: big lot across from Laidley Field at the State of
- 25:15Speaker 4: West Virginia owns, so we'll have we'll be that'll be
- 25:19Speaker 4: full of people selling. But it's also in the East
- 25:21Speaker 4: End of Charleston where they're having the East End yard Sale,
- 25:23Speaker 4: right and.
- 25:24Speaker 3: That's going to be our next segment. We have got
- 25:26Speaker 3: one of the folks that organized in that are going
- 25:28Speaker 3: to be on the next segment. And there's always around
- 25:31Speaker 3: this time of the year, the first or seconds of
- 25:34Speaker 3: first or second week in May. It's like yard sale time.
- 25:36Speaker 3: I mean even you know, and where I used to live, man,
- 25:38Speaker 3: I mean you drive up, you take your life for
- 25:40Speaker 3: your own hands sometimes driving through these communities with these
- 25:43Speaker 3: with these yards. So everybody's having yard.
- 25:45Speaker 4: You're right, Well, I know that someone at Kanos City
- 25:47Speaker 4: Baptist Church let us know that tomorrow they're having a
- 25:49Speaker 4: sale starting. I think it was eight o'clock going to two.
- 25:53Speaker 4: And that used to be the church right behind where
- 25:56Speaker 4: we had the v one hundred yards that we've been
- 25:58Speaker 4: like Gypsy's we've been traveling all over.
- 26:00Speaker 3: Well, this thing goes with the whole spirity yard sales.
- 26:02Speaker 4: Well it kind of starts out like Okay, this is
- 26:04Speaker 4: a good idea, and then it gets too big or
- 26:06Speaker 4: or someone doesn't like us and we have to move.
- 26:08Speaker 4: And that's I mean, we were at the Teamsters Union
- 26:11Speaker 4: which is now where the fifth third Bank in Kanos
- 26:13Speaker 4: City is, but that's the Kanos City Baptist Church behind it,
- 26:16Speaker 4: I'm pretty sure. And I gotta feel like they probably
- 26:19Speaker 4: were annoyed when we had our sale because you know,
- 26:22Speaker 4: we had a lot of people getting in a way.
- 26:24Speaker 3: Bobby Sprice and a text actually all three of us.
- 26:26Speaker 3: You just said, don't forget about the porta potties. Yes, yes, yes,
- 26:29Speaker 3: there's bathrooms available. I guess people need to go to
- 26:31Speaker 3: the bathroom sometimes you never know, you never.
- 26:34Speaker 4: Know, or try to accommodate everything.
- 26:36Speaker 3: Everybody, all types are welcome, all right.
- 26:38Speaker 9: Before we bring extra bags with you.
- 26:41Speaker 3: Yeah, and also for vendors. And I know we're sold
- 26:43Speaker 3: out on vendors, but but just a reminder for vendors,
- 26:46Speaker 3: they have to bring their own tables.
- 26:48Speaker 4: Yeah, they know all this, okay, Just making sure those
- 26:50Speaker 4: people forget Oh no, no, no, no, I tell I
- 26:53Speaker 4: make sure.
- 26:54Speaker 3: I make sure you run this thing like a prison. Can't.
- 26:57Speaker 4: Well, sometimes you gotta, you just gotta. I mean, I've
- 27:00Speaker 4: been doing this a long time, Dave. Okay, if I
- 27:02Speaker 4: don't have a future in radio, which I still questionable,
- 27:06Speaker 4: I could run a yard sale once in a while.
- 27:08Speaker 9: Yes, I would agree, not.
- 27:09Speaker 4: Saying I want to, but I could. It could could
- 27:12Speaker 4: if I had to, you know what, it could be
- 27:14Speaker 4: my new new career.
- 27:15Speaker 3: Before before we let you guys go, I'm going to
- 27:17Speaker 3: ask each of you, over the years of doing the
- 27:20Speaker 3: V one hundred yard sale, what's the most bizarre thing.
- 27:25Speaker 9: Me hiding in the V one hundred van.
- 27:27Speaker 11: Why because we had we had to have the lot,
- 27:30Speaker 11: the skinny lot that's on the back side of the Capitol,
- 27:34Speaker 11: and it was it was it's behind the Division of
- 27:37Speaker 11: Highways building.
- 27:37Speaker 4: When used that for a while.
- 27:39Speaker 11: It was like hell on Earth trying to get people
- 27:42Speaker 11: parked in that skinny little lot. And then it started
- 27:45Speaker 11: to rain buckets, So we have angry people who can't
- 27:49Speaker 11: get in or out, and then it's raining. And I
- 27:52Speaker 11: actually told Steve, I said, I'm gonna go hiding a.
- 27:54Speaker 4: View one under there and leave it to me to
- 27:56Speaker 4: solve all these issues.
- 27:57Speaker 3: That's that's why you're Steve Bishop. All right, give us
- 28:01Speaker 3: the hours again tomorrow eight till noon at Ladley Field
- 28:04Speaker 3: or the lot right across from Ladyfield.
- 28:06Speaker 4: Come down Elizabeth Street or Piedmont Road. It's at the
- 28:09Speaker 4: corner of Elizabeth and Piedmont Road. Everybody knows where it is.
- 28:12Speaker 4: You'll be able to see if some in the interstate.
- 28:13Speaker 3: All right, yeah, and uh and and please keep in
- 28:16Speaker 3: mind that you've got to be off the lot. You
- 28:17Speaker 3: know you can't. You can't continue salesh that's that. Yeah, noon,
- 28:21Speaker 3: we we're done. People that will want to linger, but
- 28:24Speaker 3: we pretty much got to show them more.
- 28:26Speaker 9: Yeah, and Steve has this giant whip he breaks.
- 28:28Speaker 4: Do you not have that?
- 28:29Speaker 3: I figured he would just have like a like a
- 28:31Speaker 3: fire hose or something.
- 28:32Speaker 4: A don't give me any ideas, don't give me A one.
- 28:36Speaker 3: Hundred yard sale sponsored by PoCA Valley. It is happening tomorrow,
- 28:40Speaker 3: starts at eight am. Stephen, Jenny, it's been a pleasure
- 28:43Speaker 3: you made.
- 28:45Speaker 9: The big time.
- 28:45Speaker 3: I do too. You know, I feel like I have
- 28:47Speaker 3: to stop it.
- 28:49Speaker 4: I want to show I want to do this every day. Okay,
- 28:51Speaker 4: this none of them stopping this to getting up at
- 28:53Speaker 4: five o'clock to come in at six, I'm not doing
- 28:55Speaker 4: that at nine o'clock.
- 28:56Speaker 3: Then we also had this little thing between noon and
- 28:58Speaker 3: three that we do.
- 28:59Speaker 4: The Let's stay nobody cares about me state.
- 29:02Speaker 3: Wise, Sure they do your legend. All right, we'll have
- 29:05Speaker 3: you on that show.
- 29:06Speaker 4: I was on the Hotline show for a while. I
- 29:07Speaker 4: remember Metro News.
- 29:09Speaker 3: I remember that. I remember that. Well, you have to
- 29:11Speaker 3: come and hang out with me and Amanda on Metro
- 29:13Speaker 3: News midday sometime, either one of you. Okay, all right,
- 29:15Speaker 3: that's on camera though, Bishop after two o'clock. So these
- 29:19Speaker 3: cameras here, I think, and you got to put pants on,
- 29:22Speaker 3: just so you know, and I mean at least shorts,
- 29:25Speaker 3: at least shorts.
- 29:27Speaker 4: I'll be good, all right, all.
- 29:28Speaker 3: Right, Steven, Jenny, we'll see tomorrow at the V one
- 29:31Speaker 3: hundred yard Salle Dave Island Show on five any Live.

- 34:02Speaker 12: I'm great. How are you?
- 34:03Speaker 3: I'm doing fine. Thank you for taking time out of
- 34:05Speaker 3: your schedule to be here. How did you get involved
- 34:07Speaker 3: with this whole thing with the East End Yard Sale?
- 34:09Speaker 12: So, as you guys know, Piedmont's right on the East
- 34:12Speaker 12: End of Charleston and the principal I'm the principal there. Yes,
- 34:16Speaker 12: this is my eighth year there, so I know a
- 34:18Speaker 12: lot of the community community members now and the East
- 34:21Speaker 12: End Association reached out to us last year and they
- 34:24Speaker 12: were like, hey, we need a new sponsorship, we need
- 34:28Speaker 12: some more manpower. Would your PTO, which is our parent
- 34:32Speaker 12: teacher organization, would you guys want to help? So we
- 34:35Speaker 12: met last year and kind of brainstormed and last year
- 34:39Speaker 12: was I wanna say rocky, But we learned a lot
- 34:42Speaker 12: from it and now this year we kind of ran
- 34:45Speaker 12: with it and my PTO is taken over and we've
- 34:49Speaker 12: got over one hundred vendors coming tomorrow.
- 34:52Speaker 3: You got over one hundred and ving one hundred's got
- 34:54Speaker 3: fifty there, so there's there's going to be some stuff. Yeah,
- 34:58Speaker 3: love to be to be So can you tell us
- 35:01Speaker 3: anything about the vendors anything?
- 35:02Speaker 12: Absolutely. I actually brought my list because we do have
- 35:05Speaker 12: a nice, pretty map. Okay, it has been put out
- 35:08Speaker 12: on social media everywhere. We also will have paper copies too.
- 35:13Speaker 12: But at the board office, which is on Elizabeth Street,
- 35:17Speaker 12: we have those parking lots there there. We have a
- 35:20Speaker 12: lot of small businesses. We've got people selling vintage items,
- 35:25Speaker 12: people selling sun catchers, earrings. Baskin Robbins is going to
- 35:29Speaker 12: be there with ice cream. We've got some freeze dried candy.
- 35:34Speaker 12: And then we have over fifty residents signed up and
- 35:39Speaker 12: they're all along Courier Lee Virginia Street. We've got a
- 35:43Speaker 12: couple on the boulevard and some over on Jackson Nancy
- 35:47Speaker 12: Maxwell over in that area, and then at Piedmont we
- 35:51Speaker 12: have over twenty vendors registered. The Capitol High School cheerleaders
- 35:56Speaker 12: will be there. They're selling hot dogs, and then the
- 35:59Speaker 12: school is doing school pepperoni rolls and school cinnamon rolls.
- 36:04Speaker 3: See the way that Ryan, my producer, his ears popped
- 36:06Speaker 3: up there.
- 36:08Speaker 12: Yeah, school, we are actually making them fresh today. The
- 36:13Speaker 12: cinnamon rolls are going to be made in the morning.
- 36:15Speaker 12: That way, they're hot with you know, the the icing dripping.
- 36:19Speaker 3: Why are we still sitting here now? Why why am
- 36:21Speaker 3: I not a line over there waiting for tomorrow morning.
- 36:23Speaker 12: So we've got a ton of vendors there also that
- 36:26Speaker 12: are going to have items to sell. We've got a
- 36:30Speaker 12: lady that's selling jams and jellies, and then we've got
- 36:33Speaker 12: you know, your regular yard sale stuff, clothes and shoes,
- 36:36Speaker 12: baby items. So we have a really big variety. So
- 36:40Speaker 12: I'm excited.
- 36:41Speaker 3: Now, do you have any more space available?
- 36:43Speaker 12: So at Piedmont we do because we have celebration station
- 36:47Speaker 12: that we can expand to. Right now, we're going to
- 36:51Speaker 12: utilize the main yard on Courrier Street, and then we'll
- 36:54Speaker 12: go all the way down through Celebration station and we've
- 36:57Speaker 12: got the basketball court there, so we do have some
- 37:00Speaker 12: more space. If people want to come to Piedmont tomorrow,
- 37:02Speaker 12: we have cut off the registration, but if they show
- 37:05Speaker 12: up in the morning, I'll be glad to take cash payment.
- 37:08Speaker 3: Yeah, there you go. Okay, Well, so our friends somebody
- 37:10Speaker 3: had texted about you know, over Friday, I do a
- 37:12Speaker 3: segment with Angie gillen Water from the Kennal Charleston Humane
- 37:15Speaker 3: Association to ask about a textor wanted to know if
- 37:18Speaker 3: there was space available. Unfortunately for the V one hundred
- 37:20Speaker 3: yard sale, there is no space available, but you said
- 37:23Speaker 3: if and we'll get in touch with Angie. If Angie
- 37:26Speaker 3: and the folks can do it, you can make space
- 37:27Speaker 3: for him at Piedmont.
- 37:28Speaker 12: Absolutely absolutely, we want this to be a community event.
- 37:31Speaker 12: We want everybody to come. We want as many nonprofits
- 37:34Speaker 12: to be involved as possible. So yes, the Canal Humane Association,
- 37:40Speaker 12: definitely we would.
- 37:41Speaker 3: All right, well, Angie, if you're listening, If not, we'll
- 37:42Speaker 3: be getting in touch with you. Hopefully we can get you.
- 37:45Speaker 3: We can get you over there. So this is going
- 37:48Speaker 3: to I mean, this is going to be pretty big,
- 37:51Speaker 3: and this is I mean, I'm trying to picture in
- 37:53Speaker 3: my head when you're talking about these streets and all
- 37:56Speaker 3: the people that are going to be involved, what's the
- 37:59Speaker 3: traffic situation going to be like there?
- 38:00Speaker 12: So we we will block off the parking lot at
- 38:04Speaker 12: the board office tonight. We have the city trash trucks
- 38:07Speaker 12: coming through scheduled. We have Mountain Mission scheduled for pickup,
- 38:13Speaker 12: so we're gonna have an extra police presence. There will
- 38:16Speaker 12: be parking available at Piedmont, so we've got a lot
- 38:20Speaker 12: behind the building if anybody wants to park there and walk.
- 38:23Speaker 12: It's gonna be a high traffic area. Parking is going
- 38:26Speaker 12: to be tricky. It is downtown always, but there are
- 38:30Speaker 12: many churches around there that have lots. But people can
- 38:33Speaker 12: definitely park at Piedmont if they would like. And uh,
- 38:36Speaker 12: the YWCA also has some parking lots that you can
- 38:39Speaker 12: use and past and present right there across from the
- 38:43Speaker 12: board office. They are having an outdoor sale tomorrow to
- 38:46Speaker 12: promote their store.
- 38:47Speaker 3: Okay, so we really want people to go. I mean
- 38:49Speaker 3: people want bargains, man. This is the this is Charleston's
- 38:52Speaker 3: the place to be. Yet if you.
- 38:54Speaker 12: Could spend the day and probably get your Christmas done
- 38:57Speaker 12: to Christmas.
- 38:58Speaker 3: Christmas twenty thirty five be taking care of but Dave
- 39:01Speaker 3: Island showing five Any Live is brought to you a
- 39:03Speaker 3: part by Bridge Valley offering custom tailored training, supplying skilled
- 39:06Speaker 3: graduates and apprenticeships for your company. Who's a Bridge Valley
- 39:09Speaker 3: dot EEDU. So you said Mountain Mission is going to
- 39:12Speaker 3: be there tomorrow as well. I know they're also going
- 39:14Speaker 3: to be at the V one hundred yard sales. So
- 39:16Speaker 3: we say that because if people have things that they
- 39:19Speaker 3: maybe don't want to take back home. Now again, as
- 39:21Speaker 3: Steve said, though, we don't want your junk, okay, I
- 39:24Speaker 3: mean it's just as something that's maybe maybe a little
- 39:26Speaker 3: bulky or something, or you just haven't been able to
- 39:28Speaker 3: sell it at previous yard sales. Don't use it as
- 39:30Speaker 3: an opportunity to get rid of your junk. You know,
- 39:32Speaker 3: they're not a trash service.
- 39:34Speaker 12: Yeah, donate things that they can profit off of. Also
- 39:37Speaker 12: because they all are nonprofits as well, So we want
- 39:40Speaker 12: to help as many people as possible.
- 39:42Speaker 3: Talk about talk about your school, about Piedmont, because I
- 39:44Speaker 3: know you're amazing.
- 39:46Speaker 12: It is amazing. We are the only year round school
- 39:49Speaker 12: in the state of West Virginia.
- 39:51Speaker 3: How do you feel about that, educate it. Okay, it's the.
- 39:53Speaker 12: Best schedule ever. So we will finish up this school
- 39:57Speaker 12: year on June the fifth, and then and we are off.
- 40:00Speaker 12: We come back right after the fourth of July. It's
- 40:04Speaker 12: July seventh, eighth, and ninth, somewhere in there, and that
- 40:06Speaker 12: will begin our new school year. And then we go
- 40:09Speaker 12: for nine weeks, and we're off for three, which is
- 40:12Speaker 12: in September. Then we go for nine and again we're
- 40:14Speaker 12: off three weeks in December, nine more weeks. We're off
- 40:18Speaker 12: three weeks in March.
- 40:19Speaker 3: And the reason I ask you about that is because
- 40:21Speaker 3: there have been education experts of which I am not one,
- 40:26Speaker 3: that have said that when you look at statistically, and
- 40:29Speaker 3: again you know, with statistics you can make them say
- 40:31Speaker 3: whatever you want, but they have said that they feel
- 40:34Speaker 3: a lot of people in education think this is the
- 40:37Speaker 3: future for American schools, and that the parents who said
- 40:40Speaker 3: they didn't like it, when they got into the groove
- 40:44Speaker 3: and with the kids, they actually liked it better in
- 40:46Speaker 3: many cases.
- 40:47Speaker 12: Yeah, and our community they're used to it.
- 40:50Speaker 3: I mean, it's been have you been doing it.
- 40:52Speaker 12: It's been over thirty years that it's been year round.
- 40:54Speaker 3: Oh, Okay.
- 40:55Speaker 12: So the only year that we weren't year round was
- 40:59Speaker 12: the COVID year. We went regular calendar.
- 41:01Speaker 3: That doesn't camp for anything, right, that was a that
- 41:03Speaker 3: was a wash.
- 41:07Speaker 12: I like it because when you need a break, just
- 41:10Speaker 12: when you need a break, you get one. So I
- 41:11Speaker 12: like to tell people they get their report card and
- 41:14Speaker 12: then they get a three week break. And our kids
- 41:16Speaker 12: are accustomed to it, you know, they.
- 41:18Speaker 3: Just taking it back while I was at school. That
- 41:19Speaker 3: gives me three weeks to make excuses, three weeks or
- 41:23Speaker 3: good or bad, or three weeks of punishment, you know,
- 41:25Speaker 3: cleaning out, you know the garage for three But anyway.
- 41:28Speaker 12: Go ahead, and all of our you know, community people.
- 41:30Speaker 12: We have a program through Step by Step, which is
- 41:33Speaker 12: an after school program, and they partner with us and
- 41:36Speaker 12: they offer free programming when our breaks are happening, which
- 41:40Speaker 12: is nice.
- 41:40Speaker 3: All right, So Ashley, I appreciate you being here. Give
- 41:44Speaker 3: us the the details again about to sale tomorrow.
- 41:46Speaker 12: So tomorrow is the east En yard sale. It will
- 41:49Speaker 12: run from eight am to one pm. Set up starts
- 41:53Speaker 12: at six thirty. Please don't come and try to buy
- 41:56Speaker 12: at six thirty.
- 41:56Speaker 3: Yeah, and also for vendors, and this is the same thing.
- 42:00Speaker 3: I'm going to presume it's the same thing that Steve
- 42:02Speaker 3: and Jenny were talking about. If it starts at eight o'clock.
- 42:05Speaker 3: For if you're a vendor and you're gonna be setting up,
- 42:07Speaker 3: please don't come in at eight, right, you know, get
- 42:09Speaker 3: there well early.
- 42:10Speaker 12: We will have plenty of manpower and help there by
- 42:14Speaker 12: six thirty to help people find their spots.
- 42:16Speaker 3: Do they need to bring their own tables and whatnot?
- 42:18Speaker 12: Yes, they Most people are bringing their own stuff. We
- 42:22Speaker 12: do have a little bit of stuff that we can
- 42:23Speaker 12: help out with that Piedmont.
- 42:25Speaker 3: We do have something safe bring your own, okay, So.
- 42:29Speaker 12: It'll go till one o'clock. Definitely come get the school
- 42:32Speaker 12: Pepperoni rolls and cinnamon rolls. Those are going to be delicious.
- 42:35Speaker 12: We're also selling them on Courrier Street as well at
- 42:38Speaker 12: one of the houses. But we have over one hundred
- 42:40Speaker 12: vendors set up and we are ready for everybody to
- 42:44Speaker 12: come out and have a good time.
- 42:45Speaker 3: All right, Ashley, I appreciate you being here, and it's
- 42:47Speaker 3: obviously obviously you're very, very proud of your school too.
- 42:51Speaker 3: I mean, she's rocking the Piedmont Elementary shirt today and
- 42:55Speaker 3: this is one of the things I love about about

- 45:49Speaker 3: Nine fifty three graduation coming up on the campus of
- 45:53Speaker 3: the Yellow Jackets at West Virginia State. Jack Bailey from
- 45:56Speaker 3: States here to talk about it. Jack, Welcome to the show.
- 45:59Speaker 5: Hey Da, thank you so much for having me on
- 46:00Speaker 5: this morning.
- 46:01Speaker 3: Give us the details about graduation.
- 46:04Speaker 5: So yes, Tomorrow Saturday, at ten o'clock, our spring graduation
- 46:09Speaker 5: will take place here at Western State University. We will
- 46:13Speaker 5: be graduating the class of twenty twenty five. We have
- 46:17Speaker 5: about two hundred and forty graduates that will be receiving
- 46:20Speaker 5: their diplomas tomorrow, and it's really just one of the
- 46:23Speaker 5: most exciting days of the year we have on campus.
- 46:26Speaker 5: It's the Walker Convocation Center should be packed with our
- 46:29Speaker 5: graduates and their families, and it'll be It's a good
- 46:31Speaker 5: day to be to be a Yellowjacket.
- 46:33Speaker 3: Holst, have you been in the education business for a while.
- 46:35Speaker 3: How's how's college graduation change over the last few years.
- 46:40Speaker 5: Well, the one thing I always liked about our graduation
- 46:44Speaker 5: here at State is that each of our graduates, each
- 46:47Speaker 5: individual student gets their moment in the spotlight, if you will.
- 46:52Speaker 5: Every graduate gets their name called individually, and every graduate
- 46:56Speaker 5: walks across the stage, gets to shake hands with our
- 46:58Speaker 5: president Eric Cage, get their picture taken with President Cage.
- 47:02Speaker 5: So every one of our graduates gets their moment in
- 47:04Speaker 5: the spotlight, so to speak. And that's a really big
- 47:08Speaker 5: difference from I know when I graduated college.
- 47:10Speaker 3: So yeah, yeah, again, we're talking with Jack Bailey from
- 47:13Speaker 3: West Virginia State University. And there's some one thing I've
- 47:16Speaker 3: learned since covering the things that you guys do. We
- 47:19Speaker 3: have some great institutions, you know, I mean obviously Marshall
- 47:22Speaker 3: wvu Bridge Valley, University of Charleston, but there's a pride
- 47:27Speaker 3: that comes with State.
- 47:28Speaker 13: Man.
- 47:28Speaker 3: You people really take this seriously, don't you. I mean
- 47:30Speaker 3: as far as being a State graduate, right.
- 47:33Speaker 5: We really do, we really do. There are ten thousand
- 47:37Speaker 5: alumni of Westernian State University here in the Kannall Valley alone.
- 47:41Speaker 5: Like I said, tomorrow we're going to add another two
- 47:43Speaker 5: hundred and forty graduates to the ranks of alumni. But
- 47:46Speaker 5: it's amazing. Anytime I'm in Charleston or out and around
- 47:49Speaker 5: in the area, people say, hey, you work at State,
- 47:51Speaker 5: don't you, And it's just yeah, there is a real
- 47:53Speaker 5: pride of family and familiarity with folks who have graduated
- 47:59Speaker 5: from State, and a lot of pride in what we
- 48:00Speaker 5: do here.
- 48:01Speaker 3: All right? Well, Jack will run a little bit short
- 48:03Speaker 3: on time. Give us the time for graduation again tomorrow.
- 48:06Speaker 5: It's ten o'clock. If you can't attend in person, it is.
- 48:10Speaker 5: It will be live streamed on the university's live stream channel,
- 48:13Speaker 5: and we've shared that link out on our website and
- 48:14Speaker 5: social media. But ten o'clock tomorrow, Institute, West Virginia.
- 48:17Speaker 3: All right, Jack, appreciate you being here. Good luck with
- 48:19Speaker 3: everything tomorrow. Thanks a lot five away from Tim to

- 50:40Speaker 18: We'll talk about that. Coming up at eleven oh six.
- 50:43Speaker 18: Chris Steyerwaldt joins us. He's been out of pocket for

- 51:25Speaker 3: I've already forgotten her name, Ashley Ashley Grogg here from
- 51:28Speaker 3: Piedmont Elementary about the East End yard sale going on tomrow.
- 51:31Speaker 3: We had a text here, this is right up your alley, Texas, Dave.
- 51:34Speaker 3: Will the Republicans be at the yard sales to collect
- 51:36Speaker 3: sales taxes on all sales. It's the law watch out
- 51:39Speaker 3: for the state treasurer. I don't think Larry Pack is
- 51:43Speaker 3: going to be driving around like in an unmarked car.
- 51:46Speaker 3: You know, I think you would self report that as
- 51:50Speaker 3: income on your taxes. I don't know that necessarily there
- 51:53Speaker 3: be a sales component, but people reported as a capital game.
- 51:56Speaker 18: Letting it look out for Larry Pack, the evil Larry,
- 52:00Speaker 18: because that's what he does. Yeah, all right, now I'm
- 52:03Speaker 18: gonna have to do the research to figure out how
- 52:06Speaker 18: it should be reported as income tax or income.
- 52:08Speaker 3: Or well, don't shut down our yard sales man, our
- 52:11Speaker 3: pro yard sales, except when they're in my neighborhood. That's
- 52:14Speaker 3: a different story. I don't have a problem with the
- 52:16Speaker 3: yard sales in the traffic I did well. I don't
- 52:18Speaker 3: even mind the traffic. I just don't like when they
- 52:19Speaker 3: block people's driveway. So, I mean, like, what part of
