- 0:12Speaker 1: This is the Patriots Catch twenty two podcasts with Evan
- 0:16Speaker 1: Lazar and Alex bar.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Blazar and Lazarre.
- 0:20Speaker 3: Hello, everybody nailed it, Joined as always by our bar Gas.
- 0:26Speaker 1: Here is Evan Lazar and Alex bars. If they were
- 0:30Speaker 1: going to take genty and we were, you know, to
- 0:32Speaker 1: come in here the next day and talk about it
- 0:33Speaker 1: after you're you know, done, just getting in your fields.
- 0:40Speaker 3: I this is It's always tough for me because I
- 0:43Speaker 3: have I have my my genuine hatred towards running backs.
- 0:47Speaker 1: Which han't which you shouldn't, but okay, but.
- 0:50Speaker 3: It's always difficult for me when it comes to the
- 0:53Speaker 3: draft because I do genuinely like some of the running
- 0:56Speaker 3: backs in every draft, as you know, like I, I
- 0:58Speaker 3: do genuinely like them, like I genuinely liked to be
- 1:01Speaker 3: John Robinson coming out. You watch that tape and you're
- 1:04Speaker 3: it's undeniable that he's a talented guy. But then the
- 1:08Speaker 3: nerd in me fights against the film guy and me,
- 1:11Speaker 3: and it's just like an internal conflict of.
- 1:13Speaker 1: Always going to what film do I no offense to Matt.
- 1:16Speaker 1: I don't even know that that was the best quote
- 1:19Speaker 1: last week from genty because I think somebody said, like,
- 1:22Speaker 1: how disappointed would you be? And I said, my biggest
- 1:24Speaker 1: disappointment would be I'm probably not gonna get to see
- 1:26Speaker 1: the look on your face when the pick comes in.
- 1:28Speaker 3: It's funny because we've talked a little bit about this
- 1:31Speaker 3: deuce and I off the air, we find out maybe
- 1:35Speaker 3: ten seconds before the TV goes yeah, right, And so
- 1:40Speaker 3: my live reaction is usually a little bit rehearsed, planned,
- 1:46Speaker 3: like I have a minute to kind of collect myself
- 1:48Speaker 3: before we give our take on it. Last two drafts
- 1:52Speaker 3: or do the two drafts that I've worked for the
- 1:53Speaker 3: team I have Christian Zalaz and Drake May were genuine
- 1:57Speaker 3: excitement for both. Oh I got.
- 1:58Speaker 1: Felger Mas Rose did me for how excited I got?
- 2:01Speaker 1: Yeah for the Gonzales one.
- 2:02Speaker 3: But it's funny because yeah, that you.
- 2:05Speaker 1: Know that rightfully, by the way, I was right to
- 2:07Speaker 1: be excited.
- 2:07Speaker 3: But I, like I said, when it comes to running back,
- 2:10Speaker 3: especially in the class, like it's a great running back
- 2:12Speaker 3: class objectively, there's a lot of great running backs in
- 2:15Speaker 3: this class. What do you how do you kind of
- 2:19Speaker 3: deal with the value of the position. And I have
- 2:21Speaker 3: another take about positional value. We'll get to hear in
- 2:23Speaker 3: a second. But hello, everybody, welcome in. It's Evan Lazar
- 2:28Speaker 3: and Alex Bart just getting right to it right off
- 2:30Speaker 3: the jump, as we we typically do, and before we
- 2:34Speaker 3: get really into the weeds here, we're gonna talk a
- 2:36Speaker 3: little bit about the league meetings, all the news that's
- 2:38Speaker 3: coming out of the league meetings, Patriots related news, mostly
- 2:42Speaker 3: some Patriots adjacent stuff that I think is relevant to
- 2:44Speaker 3: the Patriots as well coming out of the league meetings,
- 2:47Speaker 3: and I have to poke a little bit fun. I'm sorry,
- 2:50Speaker 3: but we're not going to talk about succession plans. You know,
- 2:53Speaker 3: we're not going to talk about any of that. If
- 2:55Speaker 3: you want that, you're in the wrong place. This is
- 2:57Speaker 3: gonna be draft talk. This is going to be team
- 3:00Speaker 3: building talk about what was said at the owners meetings
- 3:03Speaker 3: and all that good stuff for the next couple of hours.
- 3:05Speaker 3: So hate Patriots fans. If you want to see Toyota's
- 3:08Speaker 3: best offers, including those not seen on TV, go to
- 3:11Speaker 3: buy a Toyota. Dot Com is Toyota's official website for
- 3:14Speaker 3: deals for the official vehicle of the New England Patriots, Toyota,
- 3:18Speaker 3: Let's Go Places, and bud Light. Easy to drink, easy
- 3:21Speaker 3: to enjoy, bud Light, the official beer sponsor of the
- 3:24Speaker 3: New England Patriots. All right, everybody, So, in terms of
- 3:28Speaker 3: the news coming out of the owners meetings this week,
- 3:31Speaker 3: Alex I kind of broke it up into a few
- 3:34Speaker 3: different bullet points. You know, Mike Rabel's press conferences the.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Meat of this.
- 3:38Speaker 3: There's some Patriots adjacent news like I talked about as
- 3:41Speaker 3: well with you know, Aaron Rodgers and Kirk Cousins and
- 3:43Speaker 3: things like that that could be related. But I think
- 3:46Speaker 3: the biggest takeaway that I had just from listening to Rabel,
- 3:50Speaker 3: listening to some of the things that he had to say,
- 3:51Speaker 3: and I know he had some nice things to say
- 3:53Speaker 3: about some other prospects, but I kind of came to
- 3:56Speaker 3: the conclusion and when you're picking at four overall, I
- 4:00Speaker 3: don't need to have a list of ten guys, right,
- 4:02Speaker 3: you need to have a list of four, right.
- 4:04Speaker 1: You know he doesn't.
- 4:04Speaker 3: This is not a situation where they're picking You're just
- 4:07Speaker 3: talking about Christian Gonzales where they're picking fifteenth. So you
- 4:11Speaker 3: need to have fifteen names that you would be comfortable
- 4:14Speaker 3: with or you know that were in that range. So
- 4:17Speaker 3: when it comes to the four guys, I think, as
- 4:19Speaker 3: it stands today on April second, Travis Hunter, Abdul Carter
- 4:25Speaker 3: or obviously on everybody's list. I think, you know, in
- 4:28Speaker 3: terms of that being in the top four or five picks,
- 4:32Speaker 3: I've come to the conclusion that I really feel like
- 4:34Speaker 3: Will Campbell and armand Membu or the two other guys
- 4:36Speaker 3: on their list, and it's really just gonna kind of
- 4:38Speaker 3: come down to do one of those top two guys
- 4:41Speaker 3: fall in your lap, right and you run the cart
- 4:43Speaker 3: up with Carter or Hunter, and you're really happy about that.
- 4:47Speaker 3: If not. Ra Abile talked a little bit about marrying
- 4:50Speaker 3: need with best player available and making sure that hopefully
- 4:55Speaker 3: that those two things kind of go hand in hand
- 4:58Speaker 3: with a pick that you make, and I feel like
- 5:01Speaker 3: just listening to them talk about tackle, knowing that they
- 5:03Speaker 3: need to address that in the draft, knowing that there
- 5:06Speaker 3: are two tackles that are probably worthy of going roughly
- 5:09Speaker 3: in that range, and we can debate if it's a
- 5:12Speaker 3: little high, a little low, whatever, but roughly in that range.
- 5:16Speaker 3: I'm just kind of having a tough time going outside
- 5:20Speaker 3: the box here and thinking that it could be a
- 5:22Speaker 3: Jalen Walker, or it could be a Tyler Warren, or
- 5:25Speaker 3: it could be a Ted McMillan. Even at that pick
- 5:28Speaker 3: when they have a glaring need. They have two guys
- 5:31Speaker 3: that sounds like they feel pretty good about in the
- 5:33Speaker 3: Membu and Campbell. Now it just kind of comes down
- 5:36Speaker 3: to which one do they like better?
- 5:37Speaker 1: Yeah, absolutely, And I think even if they get a
- 5:43Speaker 1: trade back offer there, right, it doesn't sound like there's
- 5:46Speaker 1: gonna be a ton of desire to trade up in
- 5:49Speaker 1: this draft. So at what point if you're offered what
- 5:52Speaker 1: a fourth round pick to move back two or three spots,
- 5:55Speaker 1: if you know you want to tackle, what are the
- 5:57Speaker 1: odds it's Carter, Membu, four, five, right, six, whatever? Right
- 6:00Speaker 1: at that point, you just take your guy. So it
- 6:03Speaker 1: does feel like that's the group. He was very complimentary
- 6:06Speaker 1: of Tyler Warren. There is still the Ashton Genty best
- 6:10Speaker 1: player available thing. Maybe that comes into play more if
- 6:13Speaker 1: they move back, But I'm with you, I think it's
- 6:14Speaker 1: those two guys who talked about since the start of
- 6:17Speaker 1: this thing, Carter and Hunter. Those two guys are above
- 6:21Speaker 1: all else. And then after them, I think it's well,
- 6:24Speaker 1: and we've talked about this, Campbell, Membo, Genty, McMillan, Warren,
- 6:30Speaker 1: Graham like it's sort of all things equal, they all
- 6:34Speaker 1: have sort of a glaring question. So if it's all
- 6:37Speaker 1: things equal, what's the most obvious tiebreaker? And it is
- 6:40Speaker 1: and it should be need Yeah, and then you get
- 6:43Speaker 1: to the tackle position then and then it just comes
- 6:45Speaker 1: down to what they both played in the SEC, and
- 6:48Speaker 1: Vrabel was praised both of them on Monday. If they
- 6:53Speaker 1: said they played in the SEC, you see what they did.
- 6:56Speaker 1: It comes down to what do you want to take
- 6:57Speaker 1: the gamble on the guy who doesn't have the deal
- 7:00Speaker 1: measurables or the guy who's going to be moving positions?
- 7:03Speaker 1: Right there's limited examples of success for both in the
- 7:09Speaker 1: NFL right now, either one would be an outlier if
- 7:12Speaker 1: he succeeds. Which one do you want to take the
- 7:14Speaker 1: gamble one?
- 7:15Speaker 3: So speaking of outliers, the other point that comes, you know,
- 7:20Speaker 3: into this conversation, and you're right, you know, Rabel gave
- 7:23Speaker 3: that answer about Will Campbell specifically asked about his arm
- 7:27Speaker 3: length and he has specifically said, well, he did it
- 7:30Speaker 3: at a high level for three years in the SEC.
- 7:32Speaker 3: Now got to be objective about it. There are there
- 7:37Speaker 3: are a lot of players that were great in the
- 7:39Speaker 3: SEC that were not great in the NFL, not does
- 7:41Speaker 3: that tackle you know, at all positions, right, So that's
- 7:44Speaker 3: not always a guarantee. But when you look at the
- 7:48Speaker 3: players in college football and you're projecting to the NFL,
- 7:52Speaker 3: you're projecting with everybody. So the best projections are the
- 7:55Speaker 3: guys that have gone up against NFL caliber competition in
- 7:58Speaker 3: a conference as good as the SEC that is close
- 8:01Speaker 3: to a NFL caliber competition you're going to get at
- 8:05Speaker 3: the college level. So that being said, Dame Bugler of
- 8:10Speaker 3: the Athletic Friend of the Program, UH tweeted out last
- 8:13Speaker 3: night something that you were first on.
- 8:16Speaker 1: You were you were first on the store. You know,
- 8:20Speaker 1: there were a lot of draft people talking about it,
- 8:22Speaker 1: like immediately after the combine. I was the first to
- 8:25Speaker 1: put it into graphic. A lot of people were talking to.
- 8:27Speaker 3: Me, Yeah, what's the word humble about this?
- 8:30Speaker 1: You? You were?
- 8:31Speaker 3: You were first on?
- 8:32Speaker 4: No.
- 8:32Speaker 1: I literally noticed it. I wish I could remember who
- 8:34Speaker 1: I saw tweet it. I noticed it because I saw
- 8:36Speaker 1: somebody tweet hey, some of these measurements don't line up,
- 8:39Speaker 1: and I was like, oh, let me look at that.
- 8:40Speaker 1: So I was first with the graphic. I'll take credit
- 8:42Speaker 1: for that. I might have been the loudest. If you
- 8:44Speaker 1: want to say it was the loudest about it. I
- 8:46Speaker 1: will absolutely take credit for that, But I a lot
- 8:48Speaker 1: of people notice this, which makes it even more ridiculous
- 8:51Speaker 1: that it took us this long to get to this
- 8:52Speaker 1: point where we're accepting this as a reality in this draft.
- 8:55Speaker 3: Well, Papa Rillo is not accepting it as a reality.
- 8:59Speaker 1: Paul's were I.
- 9:00Speaker 3: Told him that I was gonna make He told me
- 9:02Speaker 3: that he knows that he's going to catch strays in
- 9:04Speaker 3: this conversation.
- 9:05Speaker 1: So I gotta I gotta own up to that believing
- 9:08Speaker 1: an NFL sanctioned measurement.
- 9:10Speaker 3: So dam Burglar. Last night from the Athletic again, the
- 9:14Speaker 3: author of The Beast said, among the forty six O
- 9:16Speaker 3: line Combine prospects who remeasured at their pro day, forty
- 9:21Speaker 3: three of them had longer arms at their pro day
- 9:25Speaker 3: measured by NFL scouts. So couple things. One common misconception.
- 9:30Speaker 3: This is not some LSU staffer that is measuring Will
- 9:36Speaker 3: Campbell's arms in the effort to inflate the measurement.
- 9:42Speaker 5: Right.
- 9:42Speaker 3: You often hear that the time, you know, the forty
- 9:45Speaker 3: time at a pro day is going to be much
- 9:47Speaker 3: better at the Combine because they're they're trying to, you know,
- 9:50Speaker 3: fluff up their guys. They're trying to promote their guys.
- 9:52Speaker 3: You hear that about the Senior Bowl, that they're going
- 9:54Speaker 3: to always be a little bit generous to the players
- 9:57Speaker 3: to make them look better from a Senior Bowl perspective.
- 10:01Speaker 3: An NFL scout measures the arm length at the pro days.
- 10:06Speaker 3: Dan had the exact number. Forty three of forty six
- 10:09Speaker 3: measured in longer at their pro days than at the Combine.
- 10:13Speaker 3: And at this point it sounds like a lot of
- 10:16Speaker 3: teams are operating with Will Campbell as thirty three inch arms. Now,
- 10:21Speaker 3: I know a lot of people hear this and are like,
- 10:23Speaker 3: we're talking about three aces of an inch, Like, yeah,
- 10:26Speaker 3: it really doesn't make a difference. I don't think it
- 10:28Speaker 3: necessarily makes a ton of difference to teams, Like I
- 10:33Speaker 3: think NFL teams are always going to have the most
- 10:35Speaker 3: accurate information with this kind of stuff. They're always going
- 10:38Speaker 3: to get to the bottom of it one way or another.
- 10:41Speaker 3: They're gonna have their own evaluations. I'm a little pissed
- 10:44Speaker 3: off about this though, as you should, as as texting you,
- 10:47Speaker 3: but should be because on the day that Will Campbell
- 10:52Speaker 3: measured in at thirty two and five. As at the combine,
- 10:56Speaker 3: I wrote that I would not take him at four
- 10:58Speaker 3: overall with that are length measurement, thinking that that essentially
- 11:02Speaker 3: would disqualify him from being a very a let's call
- 11:06Speaker 3: it a Pro Bowl caliber guard, right, a tackle, excuse me,
- 11:09Speaker 3: a really good tackle in the NFL. There isn't a
- 11:12Speaker 3: whole lot of precedent of a tackle measuring in that
- 11:20Speaker 3: far under thirty three. We're not talking about an eighth
- 11:22Speaker 3: of an inch. We're talking about almost half an inch
- 11:24Speaker 3: under the threshold. And thresholds exist for a reason. At
- 11:28Speaker 3: some point you have to have a cutoff, but can't
- 11:31Speaker 3: We can't be having guys playing tackle at thirty one
- 11:33Speaker 3: inch arms, right Like, At some point there's going to
- 11:35Speaker 3: be a cutoff, and you have to stay true to
- 11:37Speaker 3: your your system and stay true to what you believe
- 11:40Speaker 3: in in terms of the cutoff. So I wrote at
- 11:42Speaker 3: the time of the combine, the day of that this
- 11:44Speaker 3: all came out, that I would not take Campbell at
- 11:48Speaker 3: four overall. Now that time has passed and we've learned
- 11:52Speaker 3: new information, I have amended my stance on this because
- 11:57Speaker 3: we have two numbers that are similar, the one from
- 12:00Speaker 3: last spring yeah, which was thirty two and seven a's
- 12:03Speaker 3: and now the one from his pro day, which is
- 12:05Speaker 3: thirty three inches.
- 12:06Speaker 1: And I would just add to that it's not unrealistic.
- 12:09Speaker 1: I know you count those as two different numbers. A
- 12:12Speaker 1: twenty year old grew an eighth of an inch in
- 12:14Speaker 1: a year like, both of those can absolutely be true.
- 12:16Speaker 3: But even still my and again, NFL teams are not
- 12:20Speaker 3: gonna get duped by this. They will have an accurate number.
- 12:24Speaker 3: I see a lot of this is gonna cost Will
- 12:25Speaker 3: Campbell millions. I don't think it's gonna cost him million.
- 12:28Speaker 1: It's not gonna cost to finish your rant and then
- 12:30Speaker 1: I'll do my part.
- 12:31Speaker 3: It's not gonna cost Will Campbell any money. Yeah, the
- 12:33Speaker 3: NFL teams will get it right. It does, though, sting
- 12:37Speaker 3: for people like us who are on the outside looking
- 12:40Speaker 3: into this. And so I gave a take basing it
- 12:43Speaker 3: off a thirty two and five a's where I wrote
- 12:45Speaker 3: it's now in print that I am out on Will
- 12:48Speaker 3: Campbell at four overall for a player that back in
- 12:51Speaker 3: January I gushed about on this program and said that
- 12:54Speaker 3: I just loved the tape that he put out last year.
- 12:58Speaker 3: I've been a Will Campbell guy, and then I wavered
- 13:01Speaker 3: because of the stupid combine measurement, and it ended up
- 13:04Speaker 3: that the combine was wrong and had the wrong measurement
- 13:08Speaker 3: on his arms. If he had thirty three inch arms
- 13:12Speaker 3: at the combine, I never would have written that. I
- 13:14Speaker 3: never would have written that. I would have been all
- 13:16Speaker 3: in on the player. Thirty three inch arms are above.
- 13:19Speaker 3: You get into that Rashawn Slater territory, right, and you
- 13:22Speaker 3: get into all those different territories. So let's just continue
- 13:26Speaker 3: to preface this.
- 13:27Speaker 1: This is a me problem. No one cares.
- 13:28Speaker 3: Okay, I get that, but for the discourse of the
- 13:31Speaker 3: draft and the conversation around the draft, and then also
- 13:34Speaker 3: I would just say that the environment that it sets
- 13:37Speaker 3: up for Will Campbell.
- 13:38Speaker 1: So that's where I wanted to go. He's gonna be
- 13:40Speaker 1: like poor Jalen Brown on Draft night getting food because
- 13:43Speaker 1: all these people think there's this arbitrary number, and you're right,
- 13:46Speaker 1: it's not gonna cost Will Campbell any money because teams
- 13:49Speaker 1: will do their research and realistically, if they really want
- 13:52Speaker 1: to know, they'll have them in for a thirty visit
- 13:55Speaker 1: and they'll get the tape measure out themselves, right right.
- 13:57Speaker 1: Who this does cost is guys like Marcus Mobou. Marcus
- 14:03Speaker 1: Mobou played guard at Perdue for three years, moved to
- 14:06Speaker 1: right tackle last year, was very good at it measured
- 14:09Speaker 1: in at the Senior Bowl and the Senior Bowl and
- 14:12Speaker 1: Pro Day numbers and the Trine Bowl and Prodee numbers
- 14:14Speaker 1: line up, by the way, which is how we know
- 14:15Speaker 1: the combine is wrong because if three individual groups have
- 14:19Speaker 1: one number and one group has another number, did all
- 14:22Speaker 1: three screw up equally right? Or was the one the outlier?
- 14:27Speaker 1: Marcus Mobou. Now, look, he's right on the threshold, but
- 14:29Speaker 1: he measured it in thirty three at the Senior Bowl.
- 14:32Speaker 1: He measured it in thirty two. With the combine, he
- 14:34Speaker 1: lost a whole inch. Yeah, Campbell, we're talking about three eights.
- 14:37Speaker 1: Marcus Macbou lost a whole inch. So he's already like
- 14:41Speaker 1: a fringe top one hundred pick is a right tackle? Well,
- 14:44Speaker 1: all right, if he's a thirty two, now he's a guard.
- 14:47Speaker 1: And if you're on the fence about Marcus Mobou, no
- 14:50Speaker 1: offense to him, But are you gonna burn a thirty
- 14:52Speaker 1: visit on Marcus Mabou to get the royal measurement for him?
- 14:55Speaker 1: Are you just gonna move on to other guards or
- 14:57Speaker 1: other tackles. A guy like that, it's gonna cost him money.
- 15:00Speaker 1: A guy like Brandon Crenshaw Dixon who lost more than
- 15:03Speaker 1: half an inch, it might cost him money. Even some
- 15:06Speaker 1: of these guards that got short change. And it's at
- 15:07Speaker 1: other positions. JT. Tooey Molowout from Ohio State lost over
- 15:12Speaker 1: an inch of arm length as a defensive end. Chris
- 15:16Speaker 1: Paul became a true statistical outlier at the linebacker position
- 15:21Speaker 1: for arm length between his pro day and the combine.
- 15:23Speaker 1: That's another guy that's day three that at the linebacker position.
- 15:27Speaker 1: Are team's really gonna look at it or in a
- 15:28Speaker 1: strong linebacker classic, are they gonna say, we're not gonna
- 15:31Speaker 1: burn a thirty visit to get the right number. There's
- 15:33Speaker 1: other linebackers we can take. Yeah, this can cost these
- 15:37Speaker 1: kids money. Yeah, it absolutely can. Not just the lineman
- 15:40Speaker 1: across the board. I don't know if we'll ever get
- 15:43Speaker 1: an answer on what happened. We should, or at least
- 15:45Speaker 1: the players should.
- 15:46Speaker 3: And it's a reporter. I wonder if the next year
- 15:50Speaker 3: reach out to the league spokesman.
- 15:51Speaker 1: I wonder if next year we're gonna hear if there's
- 15:53Speaker 1: any like hesitance from players without the combine.
- 15:56Speaker 3: But I gotta be honest with you, I don't trust it.
- 15:59Speaker 3: It's like a relationship. I don't trust you anymore like you.
- 16:02Speaker 3: I like obviously if it's if it's even between the
- 16:06Speaker 3: senior ball and the combine and the shrine bowl and
- 16:07Speaker 3: the combine, I.
- 16:09Speaker 1: Will trust it. And let me be clear, because I
- 16:11Speaker 1: saw skeptical. I saw somebody ask this last night, like,
- 16:13Speaker 1: how do we know the numbers in the past?
- 16:15Speaker 6: Yeah?
- 16:15Speaker 1: Wrong. In the past, it might be off by an
- 16:18Speaker 1: eighth of an inch or two here or there, but
- 16:20Speaker 1: it would be like within it, within a quarter of
- 16:22Speaker 1: an inch, And it was in both directions. Some guys
- 16:24Speaker 1: are a little longer, some guys are a little shorter. Okay, Like,
- 16:27Speaker 1: that's all within the margin for error. This is outside
- 16:31Speaker 1: of the margin for error, and it's all in one direction. Right.
- 16:34Speaker 1: If some guys are measuring in an inch too short
- 16:37Speaker 1: and some guys are measuring an inch too long, it
- 16:39Speaker 1: would be a different conversation. But it it looks like
- 16:42Speaker 1: the combine got it wrong. And you know forty times
- 16:45Speaker 1: have been talking about being inaccurate for years, But this
- 16:48Speaker 1: is a definitive measurement, like you're not trying to hit
- 16:52Speaker 1: a moving target. You're not measuring the guy's arm while
- 16:55Speaker 1: he's doing windmills. So yeah, I'm using the Pro Day
- 17:00Speaker 1: or Senior Bowl or Shrine Bowl numbers. I think that's
- 17:02Speaker 1: what's more applicable here. I would encourage everybody else to
- 17:05Speaker 1: do the same. Obviously, what you want to do, that's
- 17:07Speaker 1: your prerogative. Don't let your affinity or dislike if certain
- 17:13Speaker 1: prospects dictate that. If you don't like Will Campbell, you
- 17:16Speaker 1: can not like Will Campbell with thirty three inch arms
- 17:19Speaker 1: just as much as you cannot like him with thirty
- 17:22Speaker 1: two and five eighthens arms. That's fine. If you don't
- 17:24Speaker 1: like him based on the tape, we disagree, But that's
- 17:27Speaker 1: like a that's draft season. We disagree on that. If
- 17:30Speaker 1: you're gonna say, well, no, I'm using the combine number
- 17:33Speaker 1: because I want to be right about Will Campbell, or
- 17:35Speaker 1: I want to be right about Marcus Bow, or I
- 17:37Speaker 1: want to be right about any of these other guys. Now,
- 17:41Speaker 1: you're just allowing the players you like to dictate your beliefs,
- 17:45Speaker 1: when it should be the other way around. What you
- 17:47Speaker 1: look for, what you like in players, that should dictate
- 17:49Speaker 1: the players you like. So it's unfortunate this happened. But
- 17:53Speaker 1: I was trying to tell you, guys, I was trying
- 17:55Speaker 1: to tell you it was wrong. Campbell comes into thirty
- 17:58Speaker 1: three inches. Shouldn't be any question if you if you're
- 18:00Speaker 1: worried about the tape and look the wingspan, which by
- 18:03Speaker 1: the way, was about the same at both measurements. So
- 18:05Speaker 1: if they were trying to hype them up at the
- 18:07Speaker 1: Pro day, why didn't they also hype up as wingspan.
- 18:10Speaker 1: If you're worried about the wingspan, if you're worried about
- 18:12Speaker 1: what's on tape, like, we can have that conversation. Just
- 18:15Speaker 1: don't talk to me about thirty two and five days
- 18:17Speaker 1: in charms.
- 18:18Speaker 3: I again, I just I don't. I'm going to be skeptical.
- 18:23Speaker 3: I'm going to be skeptical of what the combine puts out.
- 18:25Speaker 3: And this is a problem.
- 18:26Speaker 1: People will have to see what happens with the Senior
- 18:28Speaker 1: Bowl and the Shrine Bowl, like it'll be lining up.
- 18:30Speaker 3: But this is a problem because I think a lot
- 18:32Speaker 3: of teams, not a lot, you know, I've had people
- 18:34Speaker 3: reach out to every team. Just trust the combine. Yeah, right,
- 18:38Speaker 3: Every year when the guys measure in because the combine
- 18:41Speaker 3: has no biases. It's not LSU's Pro Day, it's not uh,
- 18:46Speaker 3: you know, Missouri's Pro Day, it's the control Pro Day.
- 18:49Speaker 3: It's the control group. They have no biases. They they
- 18:53Speaker 3: have no skin in the game to inflate numbers or
- 18:55Speaker 3: mess with numbers or whatever. So that is the most
- 18:58Speaker 3: accurate number. And teams for years and years and years
- 19:01Speaker 3: have always just trusted the numbers out of Indianapolis. They
- 19:04Speaker 3: haven't even thought twice about it. They just trust the
- 19:06Speaker 3: numbers out of Indianapolis.
- 19:08Speaker 1: Well, there was like, there's never any reason not to
- 19:10Speaker 1: trust it. I guess sure, don't fault them. But this
- 19:12Speaker 1: year there's a reason not to trust there's.
- 19:14Speaker 3: There's a reason not to trust it. And and Dane,
- 19:17Speaker 3: you know, is his reporting, he mentioned that teams are
- 19:22Speaker 3: that he's spoken to, you know, not all thirty two,
- 19:24Speaker 3: but teams that he's spoken to are using the pro
- 19:28Speaker 3: Day numbers like they are using Will Campbell has thirty
- 19:32Speaker 3: three in charms like that is the number they are.
- 19:34Speaker 1: Using, as they should.
- 19:35Speaker 3: So it's it's a part of the conversation. It's an
- 19:38Speaker 3: interesting part of the conversation, you know. To get back
- 19:41Speaker 3: to sort of you know why thirty three is so important.
- 19:45Speaker 3: You know, that's the threshold. It used to be thirty four.
- 19:48Speaker 3: It got moved down to thirty three because a couple
- 19:50Speaker 3: of different guys, you know, Rashaun Slater probably being the
- 19:53Speaker 3: biggest one that was right on the line at thirty three.
- 19:57Speaker 3: But Penny Sewell's also in the thirty three range. Yeah,
- 20:01Speaker 3: you know, Taylor Decker is also in the thirty three range.
- 20:04Speaker 3: Ryan Ramchick from the Rams, from the Ramps, from the
- 20:07Speaker 3: Saints is also in that range as well.
- 20:11Speaker 1: So there is a lot of guys.
- 20:13Speaker 3: I don't know if it's one hundred percent accurate because
- 20:17Speaker 3: you know, he goes back aways. But Joe Thomas was
- 20:19Speaker 3: a high thirty three inch arm light that that was
- 20:22Speaker 3: something coming out with him that was a little bit
- 20:24Speaker 3: of a question mark. So the threshold got moved. It's
- 20:28Speaker 3: thirty three inches. There are quite a few left tackles
- 20:33Speaker 3: that played Pro Bowl caliber left tackle with thirty three
- 20:37Speaker 3: inch inch in you know, a fraction of inch arms.
- 20:41Speaker 3: So when you get to thirty three, the ceiling for
- 20:44Speaker 3: a guy like Will Campbell at tackle now feels a
- 20:47Speaker 3: lot higher, or not a lot, but a little bit higher.
- 20:50Speaker 3: Because you'd think that, you know, Okay, now we can
- 20:52Speaker 3: coach around some of these arm length deficiencies and maybe
- 20:56Speaker 3: we can fix some of the technique that led to
- 20:58Speaker 3: some of the things that we see on tape where
- 21:00Speaker 3: he's not as good. So yep, that's where we're at.
- 21:03Speaker 1: If there's one silver lining in it. At press conference,
- 21:06Speaker 1: he gave it as pro day. Yeah. Oh, he's pissed,
- 21:09Speaker 1: as he should be pissed at the league. You're right,
- 21:12Speaker 1: and he should be in. Good for him. What do
- 21:14Speaker 1: you think Mike Rabel thought when he saw that press conference?
- 21:17Speaker 3: Well, we've said all along with Will Campbell, that he's
- 21:19Speaker 3: a rabele guy. Yeah, that was his character, his makeup,
- 21:23Speaker 3: and I understand that some people roll their eyes at that.
- 21:27Speaker 3: Just give me the talent. This is a talented kid, right.
- 21:29Speaker 3: And one of the things that I've sort of gravitated
- 21:33Speaker 3: towards more in the draft in recent years is young breakouts,
- 21:38Speaker 3: guys that were truly young breakout players. Because when you
- 21:42Speaker 3: talk about ceiling and we talk about potential, this is
- 21:46Speaker 3: in any sport really like the NBA, it's the same
- 21:48Speaker 3: draft process is the same way the younger the player
- 21:51Speaker 3: was when they broke out usually signals the higher the
- 21:54Speaker 3: player's ceiling is. So, you know, just recent examples like
- 21:57Speaker 3: Christian Zalez and Drake May were both young brains, make
- 22:00Speaker 3: out players, right they were underclassmen. They were you know,
- 22:03Speaker 3: stars as underclassmen. Drake May's big season was his sophomore
- 22:08Speaker 3: season at North Carolina. Will Campbell is has been a
- 22:13Speaker 3: young breakout player. There's tape of him two years ago
- 22:18Speaker 3: against like Jared Verse in Florida State, right, you know,
- 22:20Speaker 3: like we're talking about him playing left tackle for Jayden
- 22:24Speaker 3: Daniels as well as Ness Meyer and and you know
- 22:27Speaker 3: playing last year at LSU. So I'm big on that.
- 22:30Speaker 3: I think it's important. You know, Travis Hunter checks that
- 22:33Speaker 3: box two as well. But there are a lot of prospects,
- 22:36Speaker 3: especially with Nil and COVID, and there's still remnants of
- 22:39Speaker 3: that that are older that have been in college football
- 22:42Speaker 3: for five six years. For example, Yeah, Tyler Warrens one, uh,
- 22:47Speaker 3: you know, he's on the older side. So that that's
- 22:50Speaker 3: where we're at right now with Will Campbell the other
- 22:52Speaker 3: things I just wanted to you got one more thing.
- 22:54Speaker 1: Well, kind of along those lines, and you know Vrabel
- 22:56Speaker 1: sort of hyping up Campbell on Monday also hyped up
- 22:59Speaker 1: arm On and you mentioned the young breakout thing. This
- 23:01Speaker 1: is a guy that was as a recruit viewed as
- 23:05Speaker 1: a guard wins the starting right tackle jobs. Is true.
- 23:09Speaker 1: Freshman year at Missouri. Never gave it up, I rabeled,
- 23:13Speaker 1: sounded confident Membo could make the switch. Yeah too, from
- 23:16Speaker 1: from right to left. So where are you at with
- 23:19Speaker 1: armand Membo at this point?
- 23:20Speaker 3: Well, there's a couple of things with Member. You know
- 23:23Speaker 3: the switch, I did that deep dive I forgot I
- 23:26Speaker 3: forgot one, and somebody on Twitter pointed it out, so
- 23:28Speaker 3: I appreciate it. But my data didn't go back far
- 23:31Speaker 3: enough for Tyron Smith called the last ten years, so
- 23:33Speaker 3: I was looking at the last ten years. Tyron Smith
- 23:37Speaker 3: at USC was a right tackle, so he moved to
- 23:39Speaker 3: left tackle and Dallas probably gonna go into the Pro
- 23:42Speaker 3: Football Hall of Fame.
- 23:43Speaker 1: But he also there was a year in between where
- 23:45Speaker 1: he played right tackle. At the NFL, I don't he
- 23:49Speaker 1: might have started at right tackle now. I don't think
- 23:51Speaker 1: he was at left tackle right away because they had somebody.
- 23:54Speaker 1: I'll look it up. So Tyren Wurfs went right. Well,
- 23:58Speaker 1: Worfs did.
- 23:59Speaker 3: The same thing. He's right right in Tampa and then
- 24:02Speaker 3: moved to left. So Tyron Smith, trist and Wharfs are
- 24:06Speaker 3: the top tier, right, Yeah, both all pro caliber players
- 24:10Speaker 3: going from right to left from college to the pros.
- 24:13Speaker 3: Jedrick Wills is sort of like a nice floor.
- 24:17Speaker 1: They had dug free by the way it left free.
- 24:20Speaker 3: It's sort of a nice floor, right, Like Jederick Wills
- 24:22Speaker 3: was a solid player for Cleveland for a couple of
- 24:24Speaker 3: years until he got you know, injuries started to catch
- 24:26Speaker 3: up to him and things like that. He was a
- 24:28Speaker 3: college right tackle, left tackle in the NFL. So there
- 24:32Speaker 3: are examples, but it's three examples over the span of
- 24:38Speaker 3: fifteen plus years that you can really come up with
- 24:41Speaker 3: the guys that have done it and stuck on the
- 24:43Speaker 3: left side.
- 24:45Speaker 1: Last year a.
- 24:45Speaker 3: Couple teams tried it. Telis Fugala in Chicago, Jac.
- 24:50Speaker 1: Lath in New Orleans? Is he in New Orleans? Yeah?
- 24:54Speaker 3: Why did I say Chicago?
- 24:55Speaker 1: I don't know New Orleans? Yeah, Now I lost my
- 25:00Speaker 1: train of thought.
- 25:01Speaker 3: Jac Latham, Jac Latham and Tennessee right. And there was
- 25:05Speaker 3: one more. I have it writ down. I'll look it up.
- 25:07Speaker 3: But the point being Latham is already back at right tackle.
- 25:12Speaker 3: They signed Dan Moore junior.
- 25:14Speaker 1: They gave Dan More junior a terrible contrey in order
- 25:16Speaker 1: to be able to do Yeah, he's already back at
- 25:18Speaker 1: right tackle.
- 25:19Speaker 3: I don't know what the the oh. The other one
- 25:21Speaker 3: was Tyler Guyton with the Dallas Cowboys. So Tyler Goyton
- 25:27Speaker 3: had an up and down year, was starting for a
- 25:29Speaker 3: little bit, was benched, was starting again right like they
- 25:31Speaker 3: kind of had him in and out of the lineup
- 25:33Speaker 3: a little bit. He was a right tackle at Oklahoma
- 25:36Speaker 3: and then got moved to left tackle with Dallas last year.
- 25:39Speaker 3: I remember this with with Geyton, particularly because he was
- 25:42Speaker 3: at the Senior Bowl. Yeah, and I was there, and
- 25:45Speaker 3: they had him working out a lot at the left
- 25:47Speaker 3: side because teams he has tackle feet, He's got tackle height,
- 25:50Speaker 3: tackle length, tackle size, so everybody wanted to see if
- 25:53Speaker 3: he could play left. And he struggled a little bit,
- 25:55Speaker 3: I thought at the Senior Bowl, trying to make the
- 25:57Speaker 3: change from right to left. I think the biggest thing, though,
- 26:01Speaker 3: beyond just a change that I look at with Membu
- 26:05Speaker 3: and this is maybe just a philosophical thing for me
- 26:07Speaker 3: that might be different from other people, And I think
- 26:09Speaker 3: it kind of comes back to some of the traditional
- 26:12Speaker 3: Patriots Belichick era stuff. When I think of right and
- 26:16Speaker 3: left tackle, at right, I feel like run blocking can
- 26:21Speaker 3: be more important, like having a really good run blocking
- 26:24Speaker 3: right tackle is health is you know, sort of where
- 26:27Speaker 3: I look at right tackle, like, if you're a good
- 26:29Speaker 3: run blocker and just an average pass blocker, I'm probably
- 26:33Speaker 3: playing you on the right side right because it's not
- 26:35Speaker 3: the blind side and all that good stuff. Left tackle,
- 26:38Speaker 3: they've I feel like they've always had a little bit
- 26:41Speaker 3: of a better athlete on the left side. I know
- 26:43Speaker 3: Membu is a great athlete, but I just mean a
- 26:44Speaker 3: better pass protector right, I think is a better way
- 26:46Speaker 3: of putting that. A better pass protector on the left side,
- 26:50Speaker 3: more nimble, more athletic guy on the left side. Membo,
- 26:53Speaker 3: when I look at him, first of all, he's a squatty,
- 26:56Speaker 3: thick built right he's like six four three and thirty pounds.
- 26:59Speaker 3: He's he's kind of built like a guard in terms
- 27:02Speaker 3: of his body type. And then I also look at
- 27:04Speaker 3: the pass blocking tape and it's not a ton And
- 27:09Speaker 3: I actually went back and watched a little bit of
- 27:11Speaker 3: twenty twenty three for both him and Burden recently. It's
- 27:15Speaker 3: not a ton of true NFL style drop back passing
- 27:19Speaker 3: right where he is one on one on an island
- 27:22Speaker 3: in pass protection. They have a lot of moving pockets
- 27:26Speaker 3: in that offense. They chip and help a lot to
- 27:29Speaker 3: their tackles, you know, with their running backs and the
- 27:31Speaker 3: tight ends. I would say Will Campbell had a lot
- 27:34Speaker 3: more true pass sets in the stats back it up
- 27:37Speaker 3: than armand Membu in college by quite a bit of
- 27:41Speaker 3: a wide margin. So when I look at Membu I
- 27:44Speaker 3: and transitioning to right, from right to left, he has
- 27:47Speaker 3: the lesson to do it, He's got the length to
- 27:49Speaker 3: do it. He's a tackle right like, he's got all
- 27:50Speaker 3: the tackle measurables checked off. But I do wonder if
- 27:55Speaker 3: he's going to be a little bit greener as a
- 27:58Speaker 3: pass protector once he has more exposure to actually NFL
- 28:02Speaker 3: style pass blocking right.
- 28:04Speaker 1: We don't.
- 28:04Speaker 3: I don't think I necessarily have a great feel for
- 28:07Speaker 3: how he's gonna be on the blind side one on one,
- 28:11Speaker 3: you know, week one against a stud pass rusher in
- 28:15Speaker 3: the NFL, Like, how is he gonna hold up in
- 28:17Speaker 3: that matchup? Whereas with Campbell, I feel a little bit
- 28:19Speaker 3: more confident that he could go ahead toe to toe
- 28:22Speaker 3: with somebody.
- 28:22Speaker 1: Like that, and just because the way they're set up,
- 28:24Speaker 1: and maybe this changes with the draft, but left tackle
- 28:27Speaker 1: is not gonna be an easy position to help right
- 28:29Speaker 1: right right side Morgan, Moses, Michael and Win who you
- 28:32Speaker 1: feel good it's one on one, you're gonna be one
- 28:34Speaker 1: on one over there, But left guard might end up
- 28:36Speaker 1: being your weak spot. So are you trying to help
- 28:38Speaker 1: They're in at left tackle like they're gonna be helping
- 28:40Speaker 1: each other. What exactly is that going to look? Like?
- 28:43Speaker 1: You're gonna need a guy that can win on an
- 28:44Speaker 1: island at left tackle.
- 28:46Speaker 3: Yeah, and typically you do, like just looking at the
- 28:49Speaker 3: statistics of you know, we have data now that says like,
- 28:53Speaker 3: how often is this guy on an island right? How
- 28:55Speaker 3: often does he get hell? How often is he true
- 28:57Speaker 3: pass blocking on an island? And typically it's all the
- 29:00Speaker 3: left tackles right, Like, the only right tackles that are
- 29:03Speaker 3: up there are like Penny Seol right because lines are
- 29:06Speaker 3: just like, well, we'll just leave him one on one,
- 29:08Speaker 3: but everybody else is usually on the left side. So
- 29:11Speaker 3: I like Membo. I don't want it to come across
- 29:13Speaker 3: as like I think Membo is a bad prospect because
- 29:16Speaker 3: I feel like you when you like one guy more
- 29:17Speaker 3: than the other.
- 29:18Speaker 1: It becomes very territorial. It's become combativeated.
- 29:21Speaker 3: It always likes across that way.
- 29:23Speaker 1: You can like both. I do like both. But again,
- 29:26Speaker 1: what am I willing to bet on Will Campbell being
- 29:30Speaker 1: outside the norm for arm length or arm On Membu
- 29:33Speaker 1: being outside the norm as a position changer? I've seen
- 29:36Speaker 1: Will Campbell play left tackle. That's what I'm betting on
- 29:39Speaker 1: that I've seen him do it. Yeah, and is he perfect? No,
- 29:43Speaker 1: there there are no perfect there's no perfect prospects. I
- 29:46Speaker 1: really haven't had to use that line that much this
- 29:47Speaker 1: year because I think everybody knows that's the case. But like,
- 29:50Speaker 1: especially in this draft, Like, all right, we're betting on
- 29:53Speaker 1: his size versus where else are we going? Again? The
- 29:55Speaker 1: position changer? Tet McMillan's speed or can you really build
- 29:58Speaker 1: the whole thing around a running back with gent or
- 30:00Speaker 1: Tyler Warren being an older, late breakout player, Like gotta
- 30:04Speaker 1: take a shot somewhere. Yeah, and that's where I'm willing
- 30:06Speaker 1: to all things consider. That's why I'm willing to take
- 30:08Speaker 1: the shot. Yeah, unless, of course Carter and Hunter are there.
- 30:11Speaker 3: So that's that I don't you know, we spend a
- 30:13Speaker 3: ton of time on this, So.
- 30:14Speaker 1: We should just get like a little like piece of
- 30:16Speaker 1: paper the sign that says like unless Carter and Hunter
- 30:20Speaker 1: or if Carter and Hunter off the board. Yeah, instead
- 30:22Speaker 1: of having to put that qualifier, just hold it up
- 30:23Speaker 1: every time we're giving a take where that applies. Would
- 30:26Speaker 1: save a lot of time.
- 30:26Speaker 3: Yeah, I I just keep coming back to it again.
- 30:29Speaker 3: I know it's probably uh, it's probably old school, and
- 30:32Speaker 3: I probably need to let it go. But when you
- 30:34Speaker 3: watch when you look at armand Membu and you look
- 30:37Speaker 3: at the way he's built, like just his body type
- 30:40Speaker 3: on and you look at you know, he's a wide
- 30:42Speaker 3: bodied tackle. And when I think of wide bodied tackles,
- 30:46Speaker 3: I just think of right tackle, Like I just don't
- 30:48Speaker 3: think of those types of players playing a ton on
- 30:52Speaker 3: the left side. And speaking of wide bodied tackles. Another
- 30:55Speaker 3: you know, portion of of Rabel's interview that I found
- 30:58Speaker 3: interesting was him talking about Kid Wallace and not ruling
- 31:01Speaker 3: out Caden Wallace as a potential tackle. Again, I feel
- 31:04Speaker 3: as though looking at Caden Wallace, watching his tape, the
- 31:08Speaker 3: way he moves, the way he plays, and the body type,
- 31:11Speaker 3: I think he's a right tackle and not just because
- 31:13Speaker 3: he played right tackle in college, but just he looks
- 31:15Speaker 3: like a right tackle. I also wouldn't totally roll out
- 31:19Speaker 3: with Wallace, and this I actually feel even stronger about.
- 31:24Speaker 3: I'm not rolling out moving him inside to guard because
- 31:28Speaker 3: there's a really good track record and we've talked about
- 31:30Speaker 3: this in the past with Campbell. There's a really good
- 31:32Speaker 3: track record of college tackles moving to guard in the
- 31:35Speaker 3: NFL and being very good guards, right Zach Martin, Brandon Sheriff,
- 31:39Speaker 3: Joe Toney, Elijah Vera Tucker, Like, there's a really long
- 31:43Speaker 3: list of that. So if you move Caden Wallace inside
- 31:47Speaker 3: the guard where now he's going to be an athletic
- 31:49Speaker 3: guard and probably a high level pass protecting guard. I
- 31:53Speaker 3: like the idea that left guard is wide open. You know,
- 31:56Speaker 3: there's a wide open competition. So the way I look
- 31:59Speaker 3: at it right now with it sounds like they're probably
- 32:01Speaker 3: gonna hope that Wallace can be the swing tackle this
- 32:04Speaker 3: year and then maybe long term he's the right tackle
- 32:08Speaker 3: of the future, learning behind Morgan Moses for a year
- 32:12Speaker 3: or two and then he takes over there. I'm just
- 32:14Speaker 3: not necessarily thinking that left tackles in his future, but
- 32:18Speaker 3: very able didn't rule out him playing left well.
- 32:21Speaker 1: So when Ellie Wolf was on with Feulger, he talked
- 32:22Speaker 1: about how he sees Wallace primarily is the right tackle,
- 32:26Speaker 1: and I kind of if the plan really is we're
- 32:29Speaker 1: gonna let Kane Wallace compete for the starting left tackle job.
- 32:33Speaker 1: I don't love that. Yeah, but remember they need backups too.
- 32:35Speaker 1: They only have one true left tackle in the roster
- 32:38Speaker 1: right now, and that's Vadarian Lowe. It's not like, all right,
- 32:40Speaker 1: Vaderian Lowe's back and they have some guy who is
- 32:42Speaker 1: on the practice squad, they signed to a future contractor
- 32:45Speaker 1: they don't even have the bodies. So they are going
- 32:48Speaker 1: to need backups in addition to starters at these positions.
- 32:51Speaker 1: And we saw Vaderian low on the right side in
- 32:55Speaker 1: twenty twenty three. It doesn't work. He is purely a
- 32:58Speaker 1: left tackle. That is his position period, full stop. So
- 33:02Speaker 1: if you're gonna carry him as your backup left tackle,
- 33:06Speaker 1: you now also have to have a backup right tackle.
- 33:10Speaker 1: Whereas if you can cross train Cane Wallace enough that
- 33:13Speaker 1: he can be a swing tackle, and maybe he's not
- 33:16Speaker 1: great at left, but if you have to have him
- 33:18Speaker 1: start a game or two, you can get by right. Well,
- 33:22Speaker 1: now you have the option where you don't need to
- 33:24Speaker 1: carry Vederian Low, and that opens up a roster spot
- 33:27Speaker 1: somewhere else. So I think ideally they'd like Walls to
- 33:29Speaker 1: be comfortable enough at both tackle spots that they don't
- 33:32Speaker 1: have to keep four tackles on the roster. He's basically
- 33:35Speaker 1: competing for with Vaderian Low for the backup left tackle spot,
- 33:38Speaker 1: is how I read that, and then eventually, like you said,
- 33:40Speaker 1: he can become the starting right tackle down the road.
- 33:42Speaker 1: I'm not against him at trying to mcguard either. I
- 33:45Speaker 1: would try him everywhere everywhere. He's probably a little too
- 33:47Speaker 1: big to be a center, but yeah, get him familiar
- 33:50Speaker 1: in as many spots as possible. I wonder what like, now,
- 33:55Speaker 1: you're having a lot of bodies there, you're gonna draft
- 33:57Speaker 1: a rookie and you need to make sure you have
- 33:58Speaker 1: the reps. But I developing him as a swing tackle
- 34:01Speaker 1: makes sense because even if they draft Will Campbell and
- 34:05Speaker 1: it's Will Campbell at left tackle or arm On Membo
- 34:07Speaker 1: either one right, if you draft either of those guys,
- 34:09Speaker 1: are Arianta Ristrey later on, Okay, this is gonna be
- 34:12Speaker 1: our starting left tackle. We're putting him in place, is
- 34:15Speaker 1: low still your backup? Like, are you gonna add another
- 34:17Speaker 1: left tackle to compete there or whatever? And is that Wallace?
- 34:20Speaker 1: Is it somebody else in the draft, a guy like
- 34:22Speaker 1: Hauling Pierce right or a guy like Anthony Belton. So
- 34:26Speaker 1: I it doesn't the idea of just seeing what Walls
- 34:30Speaker 1: can do at left tackle isn't a bad idea as
- 34:33Speaker 1: long as the idea isn't well, you know, we can
- 34:36Speaker 1: maybe have him as a starter like that shouldn't be
- 34:38Speaker 1: part of the thought. It's just if he can back
- 34:40Speaker 1: up at both tackle spots, we can save a roster spot.
- 34:43Speaker 1: Now he becomes le Adrian Wadham.
- 34:45Speaker 3: Yeah, so I do wonder too if they draft they
- 34:49Speaker 3: could double dim at tackle in the draft, like it
- 34:52Speaker 3: probably won't be too top one hundred picks, but you
- 34:55Speaker 3: mentioned Anthony Belton. You know, I really think Charles Grant
- 34:58Speaker 3: from William Marry is a really interesting develop mental prospect
- 35:01Speaker 3: outside the top one hundred probably not I think you
- 35:03Speaker 3: probably third round pick, but he's probably you know, he's
- 35:06Speaker 3: another guy right, just throwing his name out there, uh,
- 35:09Speaker 3: that that could be in that developmental role and no,
- 35:13Speaker 3: no offense meant whatsoever. To Vaderian Low, but you kind
- 35:16Speaker 3: of know what Vaderian Low is at this point. So
- 35:20Speaker 3: if Caden Wallace can prove to be serviceable enough to
- 35:23Speaker 3: be the top swing tackle going into next season, that
- 35:26Speaker 3: also could open up a fourth tackle spot for like
- 35:28Speaker 3: a develop a true developmental player that you take like
- 35:31Speaker 3: a Belton or a Grant that's not going to start
- 35:33Speaker 3: as a rookie probably but might have a future starter
- 35:36Speaker 3: upside that a year or two from now, you know,
- 35:40Speaker 3: he could take over at right tackle, or if you know,
- 35:42Speaker 3: you end up not taking you know, Campbell or whatever
- 35:46Speaker 3: right like, you just have different options there.
- 35:48Speaker 1: With that spot.
- 35:50Speaker 3: So, uh, those are the tackles. That was most of
- 35:53Speaker 3: the conversation. There a couple of other tidbits just picking
- 35:56Speaker 3: up from some of the press conferences here Mike Rabel
- 35:59Speaker 3: came out and said they're drafting a running back like
- 36:02Speaker 3: he came out and said it, said it's something that
- 36:04Speaker 3: we'd like to do. One of my favorite parts, and
- 36:07Speaker 3: I know it's the least talked about part of the
- 36:09Speaker 3: press conference for mister Kraft, but one of my favorite
- 36:11Speaker 3: parts about mister Krafts press conference was him off the cuff,
- 36:15Speaker 3: just rattling off offensive line, receiver, and running back as
- 36:18Speaker 3: like three things he'd like to see the team do.
- 36:20Speaker 3: I wonder who told him that, right, But even more specifically,
- 36:25Speaker 3: mister Kraft said speed running back, speed running So I
- 36:31Speaker 3: wrote down a few names here that I think fit
- 36:33Speaker 3: that mold, right. Both, I think Ohio State guys are
- 36:36Speaker 3: speed running backs.
- 36:37Speaker 1: In my mind, they're just good running backs, but they
- 36:39Speaker 1: can do everything.
- 36:39Speaker 3: But I think they're speed guys like I think they have.
- 36:41Speaker 3: They both have explosive gears, maybe Henderson more so than Judkins,
- 36:45Speaker 3: but I think both of those guys are explosive dudes.
- 36:48Speaker 3: Dylan Samson from Tennessee is starting to make a lot
- 36:50Speaker 3: of a lot of arrows pointed.
- 36:52Speaker 1: At Yeah that one.
- 36:54Speaker 3: Yeah, you know, just really explosive, really good one cut ability.
- 36:59Speaker 1: You just really dynamite running back. You know. In terms
- 37:02Speaker 1: of that mold, he'd be complimentary to what Stevenson gives.
- 37:06Speaker 1: He did, like it makes a lot of sense.
- 37:09Speaker 3: Twoton from Virginia Tech.
- 37:11Speaker 1: Yeah, right, speedback. I still worry about the fumbles.
- 37:14Speaker 3: Yeah, he has a lot of fumbles, but uh he
- 37:16Speaker 3: has a ton of big plays on his tape, you know,
- 37:19Speaker 3: a ton of big plays.
- 37:21Speaker 1: Uh r.
- 37:22Speaker 3: J Harvey from UCF I think is another one.
- 37:24Speaker 1: Yeah, that that's in that mold.
- 37:26Speaker 3: I kind of looked at Dylan Samson is like day two,
- 37:30Speaker 3: and then R. J. Harvey is kind of like the
- 37:32Speaker 3: fourth round version of Dylan Samson. Jayden Blue from.
- 37:39Speaker 1: Texas another fumbles guy, but yeap just explosive.
- 37:42Speaker 3: And Smith they give from s m U.
- 37:45Speaker 1: Smith Richard Smith converted receiver, another fast guy.
- 37:48Speaker 3: So those are just a couple of names that I
- 37:50Speaker 3: came up with with speed running back. But you know,
- 37:53Speaker 3: how happy are you to hear that they're they're all in.
- 37:56Speaker 1: On the Yeah they should. I wonder if again, you know,
- 38:00Speaker 1: is Robert Craft using speedback in that like third down
- 38:03Speaker 1: back sense or the Quinn Allen and Woody Mark still
- 38:07Speaker 1: in that conversation. But yeah, it makes sense because I've
- 38:10Speaker 1: said this for a long time. If you lessen the
- 38:13Speaker 1: workload on on I don't said Ashton genty on ramondre Stevens,
- 38:18Speaker 1: and yeah, you're gonna get more out of him. I
- 38:20Speaker 1: think ramondre Stevens in like eighteen to twenty carries a
- 38:24Speaker 1: game is going to be overall a better player than
- 38:27Speaker 1: if he's hey, he's saving to touch the ball. Like
- 38:29Speaker 1: twenty five to thirty times a game. So one way
- 38:32Speaker 1: you can do that do that is splitting by down.
- 38:34Speaker 1: But the other thing is you put ramondre Stevenson him
- 38:37Speaker 1: in early. You let him give the body blows. You
- 38:39Speaker 1: let him I know you don't believe in this, but
- 38:41Speaker 1: you let him wear down the defense and test them physically.
- 38:43Speaker 1: And then when that defense is hoffing and puffing and
- 38:46Speaker 1: beat up, you put that track star in there and
- 38:48Speaker 1: you let him loose. So maybe that's how they're gonna
- 38:50Speaker 1: break it up. I don't hate that if that is
- 38:53Speaker 1: the plan. Dylan Sampson in that lightning right thunder and
- 38:58Speaker 1: lightning role, Yeah, I don't know that. Dylan Samson's somebody
- 39:02Speaker 1: I want as a volume back. I just think the
- 39:05Speaker 1: way he runs, he's a sub back, right.
- 39:07Speaker 3: He's not a receiving back, He's a sub back.
- 39:09Speaker 1: Yeah. So you know how we always do that, all right,
- 39:12Speaker 1: Antoine Smith, Kevin Fogg, La Garrett Blunt, James White, and
- 39:16Speaker 1: then we always kind of have to put Dion Lewis
- 39:17Speaker 1: in that other third thing. Yeah, he's more and I'd
- 39:20Speaker 1: put Tooting in this as well, Tuttan in this as well.
- 39:23Speaker 1: They're deon Lewis. They're in that third category. Uh uh
- 39:29Speaker 1: uh to Tennessee, we're just I just said his name,
- 39:33Speaker 1: oh dy, Dylan Samson, thank you. I was gonna say Edwards.
- 39:36Speaker 1: Samson's much bigger than he's six foot I think, right.
- 39:40Speaker 3: I don't know if he's that tall.
- 39:41Speaker 1: I looked that up, but like he's that all right.
- 39:43Speaker 1: He's gonna get ten carries a game, ten to twelve
- 39:46Speaker 1: carries a game. But we're gonna strategically place them where
- 39:50Speaker 1: we think the defense is worn't out, or we think
- 39:52Speaker 1: we have them biting on a look, and we're gonna
- 39:54Speaker 1: hit them with the setup off of that look where
- 39:57Speaker 1: he really is going to have a chance to break
- 39:59Speaker 1: something big. It's it's what raheem moster. It's been used
- 40:02Speaker 1: in that role in both San Francisco and Miami. That's
- 40:04Speaker 1: probably the most high profile I can think of a
- 40:07Speaker 1: guy recently that's been used like that.
- 40:09Speaker 3: So I have a I have a different different slight
- 40:11Speaker 3: different theory. Okay, same at different example. I should say, no,
- 40:15Speaker 3: different theory. I'm with you on the theory. It's a
- 40:18Speaker 3: little David Montgomery, jimior Gibbs right like that that I think, Yeah,
- 40:23Speaker 3: in Detroit is right now is the pinnacle. That's the pinnacle.
- 40:27Speaker 1: Rb Damage Sampson's only five eight.
- 40:29Speaker 3: Uh yeah, I didn't think he was that tall, but
- 40:32Speaker 3: he's uh, you know, two hundred pounds.
- 40:34Speaker 6: Though.
- 40:34Speaker 3: He's like, yeah NFL dot Com and I I said,
- 40:37Speaker 3: this is a little lofty, but NFL dot Com comps
- 40:40Speaker 3: him to Brian Westbrook, which is obviously very lofty.
- 40:43Speaker 1: Brian Westbrook is a great, was a great. Does anybody
- 40:45Speaker 1: have a better collection of players named Brian than the
- 40:48Speaker 1: early two thousands evils?
- 40:49Speaker 3: Yeah, so Brian Westbrook is lanser lines comp on NFL
- 40:53Speaker 3: dot Com for Dylan Samson. So that kind of gives
- 40:56Speaker 3: you an idea. Is he gonna be as good as
- 40:58Speaker 3: Brian Westbrook? I don't know, but he gives you playing
- 41:01Speaker 3: style wise, it kind of gives you an idea of
- 41:03Speaker 3: what the guy plays like.
- 41:04Speaker 1: Uh.
- 41:05Speaker 3: I think the biggest thing though, is you look at
- 41:07Speaker 3: you know, in Detroit they have Montgomery's kind of that
- 41:12Speaker 3: you know between the tackles, sledgehammer type of back, and
- 41:15Speaker 3: then Jamier Gibbs is the big play guy, you know,
- 41:18Speaker 3: with the speed obviously, so Trayvon Henderson I think it's
- 41:22Speaker 3: gonna go too early, Like I think you'd have to
- 41:23Speaker 3: take him at thirty eight, and I don't know if
- 41:25Speaker 3: they're prepared to do that. At running back, he's kind
- 41:27Speaker 3: of Jamior Gibbs light to me. Yeah, I don't think
- 41:29Speaker 3: he's quite as good as Jamior Gibbs or as explosive
- 41:32Speaker 3: as Jamior Gibbs. But he plays a real similar style
- 41:36Speaker 3: and moves similarly and is loose and fluid and all
- 41:38Speaker 3: that good stuff. But yeah, it's it's a it's coming.
- 41:42Speaker 3: Running backs coming at some point. Uh, mister Kraft's comments
- 41:46Speaker 3: with speedback would probably rule out Devin Neil.
- 41:49Speaker 1: Olie Gordon U, Damion Martinez.
- 41:51Speaker 3: Yeah, like those types of guys, I'm not going to
- 41:54Speaker 3: but based off of that comment alone reading it.
- 41:57Speaker 1: At Prize, they take two running backs in this draft.
- 42:01Speaker 3: A little I mean maybe in like one of those
- 42:03Speaker 3: seventh round, That's what I'm saying.
- 42:05Speaker 1: Yeah, But if they added like Dylan Sampson and then
- 42:10Speaker 1: went back later and got who are like the power
- 42:12Speaker 1: backs late, or if they even like Dylan Samson, like
- 42:15Speaker 1: Donovan Edwards.
- 42:16Speaker 3: Well that's the thing though, is like if you look
- 42:17Speaker 3: at the at the backs and you know the late guys,
- 42:19Speaker 3: like there's not a ton.
- 42:20Speaker 1: Oh what's his name from Clemson film MafA?
- 42:22Speaker 3: Okay, yeah it could be him. But like when we
- 42:25Speaker 3: get late, like I'm thinking, you know, like you.
- 42:30Speaker 1: Know, like Quinn Allen, I want the Quinn Allen or
- 42:32Speaker 1: what and.
- 42:33Speaker 3: Yeah what he marks? Like those guys aren't powerbacks though,
- 42:35Speaker 3: those are receiving back right.
- 42:37Speaker 1: Well that's why I like, I wonder if that counts
- 42:38Speaker 1: as speed. No, I'm thinking, like do they if they
- 42:40Speaker 1: go with another back late? Let's say they take like
- 42:42Speaker 1: a guy like Tutt right or or one of these
- 42:45Speaker 1: faster backs, a guy like Raheem Sanders was the other
- 42:48Speaker 1: one who I couldn't think of, or or Phil MafA
- 42:52Speaker 1: or just one of the absolute bowling balls late in
- 42:56Speaker 1: the draft, rocket Sanders. Even a guy like Kyle Manongui
- 42:59Speaker 1: if he falls, who I think is quicker than people
- 43:01Speaker 1: give him credit, but he's still more. Probably he runs angry.
- 43:03Speaker 1: That kid runs mean. Man. He learned a lot clearly
- 43:07Speaker 1: from watching Isaya Pacheco. I'm not good with names today,
- 43:11Speaker 1: but yeah, yeah, that one surprised me.
- 43:13Speaker 3: Yeah, all right, so that that's running backs. You're getting
- 43:16Speaker 3: your wish on that one. Well, last thing about the
- 43:18Speaker 3: running backs really quickly. I don't get the impression that
- 43:22Speaker 3: when Rabel talked about the running backs, who's talking about
- 43:25Speaker 3: Ashton Genty. I could be wrong. Again, everything's on the table,
- 43:29Speaker 3: I'm sure, But every single time he's been asked about
- 43:32Speaker 3: the running back room, he's back to Romandrie Stevens.
- 43:34Speaker 1: He talks about helping Stevenson, which is more of a
- 43:36Speaker 1: complimentary player. Yeah, they're drafting Ashton Genty at four to
- 43:40Speaker 1: be a complimentary back. That's not great.
- 43:43Speaker 3: Every time he talks about running backs, has been asked
- 43:46Speaker 3: about running backs, going all the way back to the combine,
- 43:49Speaker 3: Rabel has made a point to talk about the fumbling
- 43:52Speaker 3: with Stevenson and how they're going to fix that, Yeah,
- 43:54Speaker 3: and how he feels confident they're going to fix it.
- 43:56Speaker 3: He's gone even gone as far as as you know,
- 43:59Speaker 3: putting of the blame on the blocking and some of
- 44:02Speaker 3: you know, what was going on around him last year too,
- 44:04Speaker 3: and people here like, well, it's not the running backs
- 44:07Speaker 3: fault that he fumbled, How is that true? Well, when
- 44:08Speaker 3: they got six guys hanging all over you and you're
- 44:11Speaker 3: and pulling at the ball all the time because you can't,
- 44:13Speaker 3: you're always in a cloud of dust. You know, when
- 44:16Speaker 3: every single time he touched the ball. That's sort of
- 44:18Speaker 3: what Rabel's talking about when he says that, you know,
- 44:20Speaker 3: it's not always the running backs fault when those types
- 44:23Speaker 3: of situations happen. So you're trying to break tackles, you're
- 44:25Speaker 3: trying to make plays, you got three guys hanging out,
- 44:28Speaker 3: and you fumble the ball, right like that. That that's
- 44:31Speaker 3: what you know. He's kind of getting at there. So
- 44:35Speaker 3: every time he has the opportunity to back Stevenson, he does.
- 44:39Speaker 3: He also get back to Antonio Gibson in this answer
- 44:42Speaker 3: a little bit as well. So if they were truly
- 44:45Speaker 3: thinking about adding a volume back, like adding a guy
- 44:48Speaker 3: that was going to be the feature back in the backfield,
- 44:50Speaker 3: like an Ashton Genty, I just don't feel like they
- 44:52Speaker 3: would be so complimentary. The guy's already on the team.
- 44:54Speaker 3: I'm with you, Yeah, So going next one here, he
- 44:59Speaker 3: was asked about Tyler and I was kind of talking
- 45:01Speaker 3: to you about this before.
- 45:04Speaker 1: I I love.
- 45:06Speaker 3: Tight ends, but not as much as Mike Vrabel in
- 45:09Speaker 3: the first round. I will fully admit that I've been
- 45:13Speaker 3: burned in the past by tight ends early in the draft.
- 45:16Speaker 3: And I have a list and I'm gonna get to
- 45:17Speaker 3: my list in a second. But I have become a
- 45:20Speaker 3: little big gun shy when it comes to tight ends.
- 45:22Speaker 1: Like I still believe Kyle Pitts is going to break out.
- 45:24Speaker 3: I just for me, it wasn't even so much Kyle
- 45:27Speaker 3: pits I was a huge TJ.
- 45:30Speaker 1: Hockinson guy.
- 45:31Speaker 3: I thought TJ. Hockinson was going to be a really
- 45:33Speaker 3: good player in the league. And when I say really good,
- 45:35Speaker 3: he's a solid player, but I mean like he was
- 45:37Speaker 3: going to be a Brock Powers was. Yeah, like you know,
- 45:41Speaker 3: a legitimate, you know, needle moving tight end.
- 45:44Speaker 1: He's not that.
- 45:45Speaker 3: Ever since then, I've been wary of drafting tight ends early.
- 45:49Speaker 3: So here's my list I sent this to this morning.
- 45:51Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 45:52Speaker 3: So these are the tight ends in the last let's
- 45:55Speaker 3: call it ten or so drafts that were drafted in
- 45:57Speaker 3: the first round. And a couple of these guys were
- 46:00Speaker 3: raft to top ten. I want you to tell me
- 46:01Speaker 3: if you think that they were just last ten years
- 46:03Speaker 3: last ten years or so, I think I might have
- 46:05Speaker 3: gone a little bit further than ten.
- 46:07Speaker 1: Brock Bowers, Yeah so far. Dalton Kinkaid, Bills don't really
- 46:12Speaker 1: use him right. I don't know how much. It's his fault,
- 46:14Speaker 1: but I don't think he's lived up to that. You know,
- 46:16Speaker 1: I was never a kN K guy, not as a
- 46:18Speaker 1: slot receiver certainly Kyle Pitts. Yeah, how much time to
- 46:24Speaker 1: you have on Kyle Pitts.
- 46:25Speaker 3: So Kyle pit is a fourth overall pick. He should
- 46:27Speaker 3: not have been a fourth overall pick, exact same draft slot.
- 46:30Speaker 3: The Falcons did not use him correctly. That hurt, but
- 46:32Speaker 3: he has also shown some shortcomings he shouldn't have been
- 46:35Speaker 3: picked for. So the interesting thing about Kyle Pitts is
- 46:38Speaker 3: that he had a great rookie year, Yeah, thousand yards
- 46:41Speaker 3: pro bowler, a great rookie season, and then never stopped
- 46:45Speaker 3: ever since then. It was literally the biggest drop off
- 46:49Speaker 3: you could ever.
- 46:49Speaker 1: Kyle Pitts is one of the biggest nature versu nurture
- 46:51Speaker 1: players there is. To me, Tjack TJ. Howkinson, I still
- 46:55Speaker 1: think he's first round pick. Like he's worked and he
- 46:58Speaker 1: was taken late right later. No eighth overall, eighth overall.
- 47:02Speaker 1: He's a good player. I not worth the eighth overall
- 47:04Speaker 1: in this draft if you end up with the player
- 47:05Speaker 1: of that quality he did, Okay, no offense I like
- 47:11Speaker 1: no offense. I don't know that again, another guy that
- 47:13Speaker 1: is a good player. Was he worth where he went
- 47:16Speaker 1: in the draft? Probably not, but like he's a solid
- 47:18Speaker 1: starting NFL tight end. No, not worth it, he's worth
- 47:21Speaker 1: the first round pick, but like he's a he's a
- 47:23Speaker 1: good yeah, fine player. Yeah. I don't want to get
- 47:25Speaker 1: myself in trouble like I did last time we did
- 47:26Speaker 1: this exercise.
- 47:28Speaker 3: Hayden Hurst he.
- 47:30Speaker 1: Had like that one year, right, was it in Yeah, Baltimore,
- 47:33Speaker 1: Atlanta he was in saying no, he's not first round talent,
- 47:35Speaker 1: but he had that one year where he was in Carolina,
- 47:37Speaker 1: So I have to think it was that.
- 47:38Speaker 3: I have to fact check myself on this.
- 47:40Speaker 1: Yeah, I didn't even remember hayden Hurst was a first
- 47:42Speaker 1: round pick.
- 47:43Speaker 3: If I remember correctly, hayden Hurst was older when he
- 47:48Speaker 3: came into the league.
- 47:49Speaker 1: He was in the twenty eighteen draft. He's thirty one now, so.
- 47:53Speaker 3: He was twenty five as a rookie. Okay, so much
- 47:56Speaker 3: older than Warren's gonna be twenty three. He's not gonna
- 47:58Speaker 3: be twenty five, but still an older breakout player. First
- 48:03Speaker 3: round pick at tight end O. J.
- 48:05Speaker 1: Howard. No, And I liked Jay Howard, But when you
- 48:09Speaker 1: don't have Clemson forgetting to cover him in the National Championship.
- 48:12Speaker 1: He's not Jay Howard got drafted on one play.
- 48:15Speaker 3: You got drafted in the first round one that whole
- 48:18Speaker 3: game Championship, I know, but it was the one wide
- 48:22Speaker 3: open touch.
- 48:22Speaker 1: Because Clem's in that entire game, said what if we
- 48:25Speaker 1: just don't cover O. J. Howard? And they made him.
- 48:27Speaker 1: I remember I liked OJ Howard that year and I
- 48:29Speaker 1: didn't think he was a first round pick, but I
- 48:31Speaker 1: thought he was like relatively slept on. And then he
- 48:33Speaker 1: had that game and everybody started putting him the first round,
- 48:35Speaker 1: like Okay, hang on, now we've gone too far the
- 48:37Speaker 1: other way. He was wide open, No, he's not. Also,
- 48:40Speaker 1: hayden Hurst breakout year, I remember it being a bigger dealer.
- 48:42Speaker 1: I remember people freaking out because like Baltimore moved on
- 48:45Speaker 1: for him. After two years, they traded him and then
- 48:48Speaker 1: he went to Land and I remember being like, wow,
- 48:50Speaker 1: what a trade by the Falcons. Fifty six catches for
- 48:53Speaker 1: five hundred and eighty yards and six touchdowns. That's fine. No,
- 48:56Speaker 1: Hayden Hurst is not worth a first round pick, but
- 48:58Speaker 1: they couldn't make Kyle Pitts work, so they just in Atlanta. O. J.
- 49:01Speaker 1: Howard Hard No, No, I'm having fun with this, though.
- 49:04Speaker 1: We should do this more often.
- 49:05Speaker 3: Evan Ingram.
- 49:08Speaker 1: I mean he figured out in Jacksonville, but the Giants
- 49:11Speaker 1: watched that bad up and down career. A lot of
- 49:14Speaker 1: these are like teams could not figure out how to.
- 49:16Speaker 1: This goes back to you're na cut in for a second.
- 49:18Speaker 3: No, because you're gonna make my points. So just okay,
- 49:21Speaker 3: let me finish the list and then we can David.
- 49:23Speaker 1: And Joku another guy that I see what you're building towards.
- 49:28Speaker 1: I don't want to give your take. He was not
- 49:30Speaker 1: initially worth a first round pick. He's been really good
- 49:32Speaker 1: the last couple years.
- 49:33Speaker 3: He's been better the last few years. I agree with that.
- 49:36Speaker 3: That Stefanski offense has definitely helped him. Yeah, a good
- 49:39Speaker 3: year in twenty three, eight hundred and eighty two yards,
- 49:41Speaker 3: eighty one catches, six touchdowns, made the Pro Bowl, so
- 49:46Speaker 3: you know has had years.
- 49:48Speaker 1: Yeah, but.
- 49:50Speaker 3: Worth the first round pick, I'd say in Joko is
- 49:55Speaker 3: probably worth it.
- 49:55Speaker 1: Yeah, but not not a game change and he went
- 49:58Speaker 1: high too, right Yeah, yeah, no, not a game not
- 50:01Speaker 1: a top twenty pick. He went twenty ninth overall.
- 50:06Speaker 3: So not too high.
- 50:07Speaker 1: That's fine. I'm okay with that. I remember that was
- 50:09Speaker 1: like a weaker tight end draft.
- 50:11Speaker 3: I had to go a little bit further back, I
- 50:13Speaker 3: think because I had to include this one, Eric Ebron, No.
- 50:17Speaker 3: Tenth overall. Yeah, that was Eric Ebron.
- 50:20Speaker 1: I can't defend that one at all.
- 50:22Speaker 3: And then the last one I had on here I
- 50:23Speaker 3: think was one I think maybe yeah around thirteen or fourteen,
- 50:26Speaker 3: fifteen years now, Tyler Iivert.
- 50:29Speaker 1: He was fine, got hurt. He probably went too high
- 50:32Speaker 1: where he went. Yeah, he was hurt a lot.
- 50:33Speaker 3: So here's my point. When I look at this list.
- 50:36Speaker 3: The one guy that I look at this list and
- 50:38Speaker 3: I say that is a game changer, like that is
- 50:43Speaker 3: a absolute stud, blue chip whatever you want to call it,
- 50:46Speaker 3: is Bowers.
- 50:48Speaker 1: And that's only one year. That's only off one year.
- 50:50Speaker 1: Not that I think he's gonna regre.
- 50:51Speaker 3: That's only off one year. Like you said, I think TJ.
- 50:54Speaker 3: Hockinson is a nice player.
- 50:56Speaker 1: In this draft, specifically, if they came away with the
- 50:59Speaker 1: player who like equals the impact t J. Hawkinson makes, fine,
- 51:05Speaker 1: I I yeah, that that's passable. That's a passing grade.
- 51:08Speaker 3: Would I generally a bad what I generally feel about
- 51:12Speaker 3: this list. I'm gonna call it. There's eleven names on
- 51:16Speaker 3: the list. I think we're at maybe two that truly
- 51:21Speaker 3: were worth the pick and panned out. Yeah, And the
- 51:24Speaker 3: point I'm getting out with Tyler Warren, it is not
- 51:27Speaker 3: a good history for tight ends in the first round.
- 51:29Speaker 1: Well, it's just not what I want to add to
- 51:31Speaker 1: that though. Tight end historically across the board at any round. Yeah,
- 51:35Speaker 1: like brock Bowers is such an anomaly because that's the
- 51:40Speaker 1: outside of maybe quarterback. That's the position that takes the
- 51:43Speaker 1: longs to develop. A lot of those guys we talked
- 51:45Speaker 1: about Evan Ingram, Hayden Hurst for a flash there. Who
- 51:49Speaker 1: are some of the other guys You have to remind me,
- 51:51Speaker 1: butku like they started to play like first round talents,
- 51:56Speaker 1: but it wasn't until three, four or five years in
- 51:59Speaker 1: and some Dotkinson too. Some of them had to change
- 52:01Speaker 1: teams to do it. So that's another thing about that position,
- 52:05Speaker 1: Like if you draft a tight end, you have to
- 52:08Speaker 1: be patient because tight ends it's a lost art in
- 52:12Speaker 1: the college game. Teams outside of Tyler Warren, teams don't
- 52:15Speaker 1: use tight ends. They don't throw to tight ends. When
- 52:17Speaker 1: they do it's generally a pretty limited routree, pretty limited
- 52:20Speaker 1: sample size. Teams are not creative with the tight end
- 52:24Speaker 1: position in college, whereas in the NFL right now, the
- 52:26Speaker 1: tight end is as multiple a position as it's ever been.
- 52:30Speaker 1: That's why part of the reason why me and I
- 52:32Speaker 1: think some other people are so high on Tyler Warren.
- 52:35Speaker 1: He's one of the few guys in recent years, not
- 52:38Speaker 1: just this year, that played tight end in college the
- 52:41Speaker 1: way he's going to play the position in the NFL.
- 52:43Speaker 1: That doesn't really happen. So if you draft a tight end,
- 52:46Speaker 1: you have to be willing to be patient and understand
- 52:49Speaker 1: you might not get that impact year one. Brock Bauers
- 52:52Speaker 1: is an anomaly. To just bring this back to the
- 52:54Speaker 1: Patriots and I don't know, this is kind of a
- 52:56Speaker 1: side point to your point. This is why they should
- 52:59Speaker 1: draft a tight end this year because Hunter Henry and
- 53:02Speaker 1: Austin Hooper have that position held down right now. Tight
- 53:06Speaker 1: end is going to be a need in two or
- 53:08Speaker 1: three years. I'd rather get that guy in the building
- 53:11Speaker 1: now and start that development process now, because if you
- 53:13Speaker 1: try to take that guy and make him an instant starter,
- 53:16Speaker 1: the history is a tight end. Even if he pans
- 53:18Speaker 1: out down the road. It's not gonna happen right away. Now,
- 53:22Speaker 1: you don't need to make that pick at four. You
- 53:25Speaker 1: can get that.
- 53:25Speaker 3: Guy Gunner Helm Terrence Fergus right.
- 53:28Speaker 1: So, well, this is where to go back to Vrabel
- 53:31Speaker 1: the way he talked about it. How many tight ends
- 53:33Speaker 1: can we play it once and want to be multiple?
- 53:36Speaker 1: I kind of wrote it off. That's short of blocking.
- 53:39Speaker 1: There weren't going to be a ton of snaps available
- 53:41Speaker 1: for a rookie tight end in New England. And to me,
- 53:44Speaker 1: unless you're going to take a right tackle to step
- 53:47Speaker 1: in for Morgan Moses, your picks at four, thirty eight,
- 53:50Speaker 1: sixty nine, and seventy seven, those are guys that need
- 53:52Speaker 1: to be playing this year. They need to be playing
- 53:54Speaker 1: at least a regular rotational role, if not more. Is
- 53:57Speaker 1: a If you take Mason Taylor, it's seventy seven, Yeah,
- 54:02Speaker 1: how much is he really going to play? Well? Hearing
- 54:04Speaker 1: Vrabel talk, maybe there are gonna be some more thirteen sets.
- 54:08Speaker 1: Maybe there are gonna be some opportunities for that guy
- 54:10Speaker 1: to play over you know this all pending injury to
- 54:12Speaker 1: play over Austin Hooper. So yeah, I'm more open to
- 54:14Speaker 1: the idea of taking a tight end higher now because
- 54:17Speaker 1: I think there's more snaps available than I previously thought
- 54:20Speaker 1: for still still very rich, but it's it's a double
- 54:23Speaker 1: edged sword. I think they should draft a tight end
- 54:25Speaker 1: this year, but I think you're drafting one knowing he's
- 54:28Speaker 1: not going to play a ton are there? You know
- 54:31Speaker 1: what these higher picks should we be drafting guys that
- 54:33Speaker 1: are gonna play more? So my other part of this
- 54:35Speaker 1: take yeah, but does that fit in with your list
- 54:37Speaker 1: that like it's a later breakout position.
- 54:39Speaker 3: Yeah, it's a lader breakout position.
- 54:41Speaker 1: It takes.
- 54:41Speaker 3: It's a steep learning curve coming into the league. You
- 54:44Speaker 3: broke it down pretty well. Basically. On top of that,
- 54:47Speaker 3: it's a mental hurdle because you have to be in
- 54:49Speaker 3: the run game and in the past game. You have
- 54:51Speaker 3: a featured role in both phases of the game. Whereas
- 54:56Speaker 3: a receiver, if you're blocking out on the perimeter, you
- 54:59Speaker 3: kind of just go about your day. Yeah, tight end,
- 55:03Speaker 3: you have to know your run blocking assignments. You need
- 55:06Speaker 3: to know the playbook on the run side, and you
- 55:08Speaker 3: know the playbook in the past. You need to know
- 55:10Speaker 3: pass protection right because you might be in the protection sometimes,
- 55:13Speaker 3: so you have to know all these different elements to
- 55:15Speaker 3: be able to play a high volume role as a rookie.
- 55:17Speaker 3: The other element of it too, that I would just say,
- 55:20Speaker 3: with specifically to Warren that has me a little bit
- 55:22Speaker 3: concerned about him individually. I have also been burned by
- 55:26Speaker 3: the well rounded tight end, right, the guy that is versatile,
- 55:30Speaker 3: that does it all well.
- 55:31Speaker 1: It's more than just well rounded, though.
- 55:33Speaker 3: But Hockinson was that way. Hockinson was well a well
- 55:38Speaker 3: rounded tight end. He came in and you said, he
- 55:40Speaker 3: can block, he can catch the ball, he can line
- 55:42Speaker 3: up everywhere like this is this is a NFL. You know,
- 55:46Speaker 3: that's what we want in the NFL. Right, That kind
- 55:49Speaker 3: of tight end a lesser version of these two players,
- 55:52Speaker 3: but simply like Michael Mayer. I was huge on Michael
- 55:55Speaker 3: Mayer coming out, same sort of.
- 55:57Speaker 1: Thing Michael Mahy and Michael Mayer was always an in
- 55:59Speaker 1: line tight end. I remember talking about this. Nobody was
- 56:01Speaker 1: ever trying to play Michael Mayer on the outside, No.
- 56:03Speaker 3: But my point being is that he was. He could
- 56:06Speaker 3: block and he could catch pass. Oh yeah, he was
- 56:07Speaker 3: this well rounded guy. What we've seen I think with
- 56:11Speaker 3: the tight end position, specifically over the last couple of years.
- 56:14Speaker 3: Is that the guys that are are hitting are truly
- 56:18Speaker 3: receivers Sam Laporta, brock Bowers, right, like guys that are explosive,
- 56:25Speaker 3: dynamite receivers. I would say Warren's a really good receiver.
- 56:30Speaker 3: He's a really good player. I don't know if I
- 56:33Speaker 3: see a gear that brock Bowers brings to the table
- 56:35Speaker 3: in terms of his explosiveness.
- 56:37Speaker 1: And he's not brock Powers. He's not, and people gonna
- 56:39Speaker 1: want to be because it's copycat league and you're drafting him.
- 56:42Speaker 3: Four overall, so he should be a guy that comes
- 56:44Speaker 3: in and has eleven.
- 56:46Speaker 1: I would think you'd be more worried about him being
- 56:47Speaker 1: a late breakout player.
- 56:48Speaker 3: I'm a little bit concerned about that too.
- 56:50Speaker 1: That's on the list. He's a very even as late
- 56:52Speaker 1: breakout players go, he's late.
- 56:54Speaker 3: Yeah, it's it's definitely part of the concern. But I
- 56:58Speaker 3: just look at his receiving tape and it's a lot
- 57:01Speaker 3: of I'm just bigger, stronger than you, and I'm just
- 57:04Speaker 3: gonna muscle you off the ball, right, I'm gonna push
- 57:07Speaker 3: you out of the way, and I'm gonna get targeted
- 57:10Speaker 3: on this context like he had that catch Uh, I
- 57:12Speaker 3: think it's against Texas or the guy's like draping all
- 57:15Speaker 3: over him and he just you know, caught it through
- 57:16Speaker 3: the contact. It's like that's a great catch. But the
- 57:19Speaker 3: coverage is he's wearing coverage right, like the guy's on
- 57:22Speaker 3: his back, like it's just tight coverage. So I just
- 57:27Speaker 3: I look at these tight ends now a little bit
- 57:29Speaker 3: differently because I've been burning the past. I'm not trying
- 57:32Speaker 3: to crap all over Tyler Warren. I know that's how
- 57:33Speaker 3: it's gonna come across. I just I really we're just
- 57:36Speaker 3: crapping on tight ends as a whole. But four overall
- 57:39Speaker 3: is just too rich for me. It's just too rich
- 57:40Speaker 3: for me for that kind of player.
- 57:42Speaker 4: Uh.
- 57:42Speaker 3: I think I would be more inclined if it was
- 57:44Speaker 3: like Brock Bowers two point zero. Now, Colson Lovelin's probably
- 57:48Speaker 3: the closest thing to that, but he had the you know,
- 57:50Speaker 3: the injury and the lack of sample size and all
- 57:52Speaker 3: that stuff, so he wasn't even quite Bronck powers either.
- 57:55Speaker 3: But that's Tyler Warren. I just don't see it happening.
- 57:59Speaker 3: I don't see the alignment. We're talking about need value,
- 58:05Speaker 3: you know, all that kind of stuff sort of aligning
- 58:07Speaker 3: for them to make a pick at four. Overall, I
- 58:09Speaker 3: just don't necessarily see it with Tyler Warrent being the
- 58:12Speaker 3: best option there as they're talking about it on your station.
- 58:15Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm gonna say I looked up. This is all
- 58:17Speaker 1: I can bertrand for either showing Tyler world.
- 58:20Speaker 3: He's a great player.
- 58:21Speaker 1: That's a good block right there.
- 58:22Speaker 3: I highlighted that block when we did the thing, did our.
- 58:27Speaker 1: Breakdown some breakaway speed.
- 58:28Speaker 3: He's a very good player. I just I worry about
- 58:32Speaker 3: the history of tight ends. I worry about his age.
- 58:35Speaker 3: I just worry about a lot of those different types
- 58:37Speaker 3: of things. I'm not saying he's not gonna be good
- 58:40Speaker 3: in the NFL. I'm just saying I don't think he's
- 58:42Speaker 3: the right pick for the page.
- 58:43Speaker 1: Worried about his floor. I actually feel pretty good he's
- 58:46Speaker 1: gonna be good player in the NFL. I just don't
- 58:48Speaker 1: know he's gonna be a great player in the NFL.
- 58:50Speaker 1: That's where I like, I think, how much better is
- 58:52Speaker 1: and he's good, he's good. Is he gonna get much
- 58:56Speaker 1: better than he is right now? That's what I wonder.
- 58:58Speaker 1: When he is right now is a solid starting tight end? Yeah,
- 59:01Speaker 1: and he's actually a guy that might be immune to
- 59:04Speaker 1: that whole late breakout thing for tight ends because he's older.
- 59:06Speaker 1: But that's where I'm like, just get a guy later,
- 59:10Speaker 1: red shirt him for a year, not really red shirtum,
- 59:12Speaker 1: let him play. And then that's why I think like
- 59:13Speaker 1: a guy like Mitchell Evans makes so much sense on
- 59:16Speaker 1: early on day three because if they removed from the
- 59:19Speaker 1: injury right, if they drafted Mitchell Evans, even is he
- 59:23Speaker 1: their best blocking tight end? The second he steps on.
- 59:26Speaker 3: The field, he'd be a good tight end.
- 59:28Speaker 1: Yeah. So he's gonna have a role year one blocking
- 59:32Speaker 1: and then he's gonna get to grow and learn from
- 59:35Speaker 1: two great receiving tight ends and two great guys to
- 59:37Speaker 1: learn from veterans in Henry and Austin Hooper. And then
- 59:40Speaker 1: in a year or two when it's time to turn
- 59:42Speaker 1: the position over, he's already been playing and he has
- 59:45Speaker 1: some experience and now you get him full go. Like
- 59:47Speaker 1: that is such a perfect development plan to me, Mitchell Evans,
- 59:52Speaker 1: like that really is? There's other guys I like to
- 59:55Speaker 1: I would just say that's the guy I really want
- 59:57Speaker 1: for them.
- 59:57Speaker 3: Yeah, I like that pick too. On day three, I
- 1:00:00Speaker 3: wonder where exactly gunner Helm falls in this draft. I
- 1:00:04Speaker 3: know that he has reasons for why he ran so
- 1:00:06Speaker 3: poorly with the He had like an ankle thing to.
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: Stop doing that. Kishan did stop running the forty on
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: spring ankle.
- 1:00:13Speaker 3: But but I just wonder it's a deep class. There's
- 1:00:16Speaker 3: a lot of defensive talent in the in the class
- 1:00:18Speaker 3: two running back talent going to push some of these
- 1:00:21Speaker 3: guys down potentially, like if gunner Helm were to fall
- 1:00:24Speaker 3: to the fourth round, like I definitely would entertain.
- 1:00:27Speaker 1: That he's another late breakout guy.
- 1:00:30Speaker 3: Well, he had Jatavian Sanders in front of him at Texas.
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: That's the one where I got burned a tight end.
- 1:00:35Speaker 1: I thought Jatavian Sanders is gonna be sick.
- 1:00:36Speaker 3: Yeah, I thought he was a good player.
- 1:00:37Speaker 1: Where are you at just well, we're on tight ends? Yeah,
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: where are you at with Bryson Nesbit? We there has
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: not been nearly as much bryceon seventh round, Like you
- 1:00:47Speaker 1: think he's at low.
- 1:00:48Speaker 3: Yeah, he didn't run very well. Uh, he's kind of
- 1:00:50Speaker 3: a finesse player, but he's got a great report with
- 1:00:53Speaker 3: Drake may Uh, he's a seam runner, like I think
- 1:00:55Speaker 3: he still can do that sort of thing good red
- 1:00:59Speaker 3: zone feel to him as well. On that Drake may tape.
- 1:01:02Speaker 3: So I think that he's potentially an NFL player. I
- 1:01:07Speaker 3: just wouldn't use it a super high draft pick where
- 1:01:09Speaker 3: he was also really light.
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: I want to ask you one more, where are you
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: at with Ronde Gadson? I reminder where he went to
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: school Syracuse. I haven't watched him yet. I still have
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: to do some of those deeper tight ends. A couple
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: of the guys that stood out to me though, the
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: kid from Alabama and Block, c J. Drip. Yeah, yeah,
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: he's not bad. Yeah, but you know who I want.
- 1:01:26Speaker 3: Yeah, but he's a he's a true blocking ping in,
- 1:01:28Speaker 3: but he can block.
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: I think if they're gonna go true blocking tight end.
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: So Drip's like a sixth, seventh round pick. Yeah, you
- 1:01:35Speaker 1: have all those sevens, you know, can you move up
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: a little bit or maybe you move down you end
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: up with a pick in the fifth I like Jackson
- 1:01:40Speaker 1: Hawes in Georgia Tech. That kid's mean. That kid's a bully.
- 1:01:43Speaker 1: He uh from Clemson. Dwayne Allen. Yeah, Like, I don't
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: know how they might throw them the ball. He might
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: be here four years. They might throw the ball five times. Yeah,
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: but he's going to contribute in a run game. I'll
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: tell you that much right now. You should watch Gadson.
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: He's an he converted wide receiver, very fascinating player. He
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: can do some more things than Nesbit, but he also
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: does some of the things Nesbit does well well. So
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: if the Patriots want to get Drake may a player
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: like Nesbit who he succeeded with, but maybe they're not
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: sold on Nesbit, I wonder for er Andy Gatzon could
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: be that guy.
- 1:02:20Speaker 3: Yeah, so I have to get to some of the
- 1:02:22Speaker 3: deeper tight ends. I've been doing some defense positions that
- 1:02:25Speaker 3: I haven't done, which we can talk about here in
- 1:02:27Speaker 3: the second hour some recent zy biased guys with that.
- 1:02:31Speaker 3: Just really quickly. I know that I want to get
- 1:02:33Speaker 3: to the emails and the calls, so a couple of
- 1:02:36Speaker 3: other things real fast. Christian Barmore sounds like trending in
- 1:02:39Speaker 3: the right direction at this point, and nothing against Christian
- 1:02:42Speaker 3: barmoer whatsoever. This is a hope for the best, expect
- 1:02:46Speaker 3: the worst kind of thing to me. If he's there,
- 1:02:49Speaker 3: fantastic for the worst, Yeah what I say, expect, Oh
- 1:02:52Speaker 3: prepare sorry if he's there, fantastic, But I do think
- 1:02:58Speaker 3: they need to add a player, not the first round necessarily,
- 1:03:01Speaker 3: but a player like him that can fill that role
- 1:03:05Speaker 3: in case he's not.
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: Yeah, a go or at least a full go.
- 1:03:08Speaker 3: Yeah, thats a with bar More. I think that was
- 1:03:13Speaker 3: my list. You know, Travis Hunters, they talked obviously about
- 1:03:16Speaker 3: him a little.
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: Bit, but I have a thought on Vrabel and Wolf
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: both talked about Hunter Wolf did with k Adams. Yeah,
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: and I love the development plan that they laid out,
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: and it's what I've kind of talked about. And Vrabel
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: went a little bit further than Wolf didn't talking about it,
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: but mentioned him majoring in one position minory in another,
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: and also said that there's certain details at either position
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: that he is really going to have to hone to
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: hit his ceiling at the NFL level. It doesn't mean
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: it's a bad player, but it's just he's never fully
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: focused on one of these positions before. If you allow
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: him to do that and let him get where he
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: needs to be at one position, which in New England
- 1:03:54Speaker 1: should be wide receiver, and then once you feel comfortable
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: where he's at there, whether it's in six months, a year,
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: or two years, then you start to add in the
- 1:04:04Speaker 1: defensive stuff or the other whatever, River is the other
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: side of the ball, Like that's how they should do it.
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: I and Wolf talked about that as well. I love
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: the development plan and they laid out for Travis Hunter.
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: Hypothetical obviously, but I mean, if they're gonna take him,
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: it seems like, Okay, here we go, this is the blueprint.
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: And I think that's have I not been talking about
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: that since like October? Yeah, that that's exactly how they
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: chandled it. So loved, loved what they said about Travis Hunter. Yeah,
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: I agree with all that.
- 1:04:32Speaker 3: Some quarterback rumors, Aaron Rodgers to Pittsburgh sounds like a
- 1:04:36Speaker 3: done deal. There's kind of timing and contract negotiation and
- 1:04:40Speaker 3: all that time.
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: Apparently he's like set to be on McAfee next week
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: I think, or not that McAfee's doing a show in
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: Pittsburgh or something like it's gonna get announced uff.
- 1:04:47Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, that's so waiting for Yeah, it feels like
- 1:04:50Speaker 3: that is coming. It also feels like unless Cleveland does
- 1:04:54Speaker 3: draft Shador Sanders, that Kirk Cousins to Cleveland sounds like
- 1:04:58Speaker 3: you think it's in that order. I think that he
- 1:05:01Speaker 3: wants to not get Michael Pennix again and is trying
- 1:05:05Speaker 3: to avoid that situation repeating itself. So my guess is
- 1:05:09Speaker 3: that Kirk Cousins waits till after the draft to pick
- 1:05:12Speaker 3: his destination, and whoever is left without a chair in
- 1:05:15Speaker 3: the quarterback musical chairs, we'll get Kirk Cousins, would be
- 1:05:18Speaker 3: my guess.
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: But we'll see about that.
- 1:05:21Speaker 3: And then your boy Joe Milton in the rumors a
- 1:05:25Speaker 3: little bit so some more Joe Milton still, I think
- 1:05:27Speaker 3: is mass live their duo there Mart Daniels and Karen
- 1:05:31Speaker 3: reporting that there have been calls or have been offers
- 1:05:35Speaker 3: for Joe Milton, and I think the biggest thing to
- 1:05:40Speaker 3: me with Joe Milton, I've been consistent on this. I
- 1:05:44Speaker 3: wouldn't trade himunless it's for a Day two pick. If
- 1:05:46Speaker 3: you get blown away with an offer second third round pick,
- 1:05:49Speaker 3: I would take it. The only reason why I would
- 1:05:52Speaker 3: trade him. And I didn't read the full story, so
- 1:05:55Speaker 3: if this is misquoting, I apologize, But what I the
- 1:05:59Speaker 3: excerpt that I saw mentioned that Joe Milton might want
- 1:06:02Speaker 3: to be someplace where he has more.
- 1:06:04Speaker 1: Of a path to the start. I don't think that
- 1:06:06Speaker 1: was like so much immediately demanding a trade as it was.
- 1:06:09Speaker 3: Not immediately demanding a trade.
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: Eventually he won, Like he knows he's not gonna be
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: the starting back here.
- 1:06:13Speaker 3: I do wonder how much for Vrabel, who's big on culture,
- 1:06:18Speaker 3: big on the energy of the room, all that kind
- 1:06:20Speaker 3: of stuff, Josh Dobbs has no expectations whatsoever of being
- 1:06:25Speaker 3: a starter. He's a veteran backup quarterback, exactly what you want,
- 1:06:29Speaker 3: you know, for a young QB. I wonder if maybe
- 1:06:33Speaker 3: they get to the point where they feel like there's
- 1:06:34Speaker 3: a little bit too much tension there. Well, I also want,
- 1:06:37Speaker 3: like know Max Zones Bailey's and we talked.
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: About this during the draft, and you would talk to
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: people in Tennessee about this, how great Joe Milton is
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: in these situations. And he had the one game against Buffalo,
- 1:06:46Speaker 1: but he went through this in Tennessee where he was
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: supposed to be the starter, got beat out by Hendon Hooker,
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: and he was incredibly supportive of Hendon Hooker throughout all that. So,
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: like he seems character wized like a guy Mike Rabe
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: would want around. Yeah, has that changed in a year? Maybe?
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: But is it? Hey just give us like we're gonna
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: give you a chance but just give us time to
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: find the right you know, the right deal. Somebody has
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: a quarterback at hurting camp. Maybe somebody doesn't get the
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: quarterback they want the draft, they don't get cousins. They
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: shouldn't be in a rush. You're not trading Joe Milton
- 1:07:14Speaker 1: just to trade Joe Milton. Should be trading Joe Milton
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: because somebody makes it worth your while, or because he
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: puts too much pressure on you that you have to
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: do it all right.
- 1:07:21Speaker 3: Very last thing, and this one's kind of tongue in cheek.
- 1:07:24Speaker 3: Ben Johnson, my guy, the head coach of the Chicago Bears,
- 1:07:29Speaker 3: a head coach in the NFL mentioning EPA, Alex, how
- 1:07:34Speaker 3: did that make you feel watching Ben Johnson give an
- 1:07:38Speaker 3: honest answer about how the most important stat in football
- 1:07:42Speaker 3: is expected points added? What do you have a care
- 1:07:46Speaker 3: to comment on this? Because you always told me that
- 1:07:49Speaker 3: nobody in the league actually uses EPA.
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: I didn't say that, and I said they'd be wrong
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: to I now a head coaches, I never said nobody
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: use it.
- 1:07:56Speaker 3: Now a head coach in the NFL at the league
- 1:07:58Speaker 3: meetings is saying that the most important stat in football
- 1:08:02Speaker 3: is expected points added on pass attempts. Passing EPA is
- 1:08:06Speaker 3: the most important. You win eighty percent of the games.
- 1:08:09Speaker 3: The team with the higher passing EPA wins eighty percent
- 1:08:11Speaker 3: of the time. So everybody's goal should be passing efficiency.
- 1:08:15Speaker 3: That doesn't Let's make sure everybody understands. That doesn't mean
- 1:08:19Speaker 3: passing volume. There's a difference. It doesn't mean throw it
- 1:08:22Speaker 3: fifty times, right, it means so how many of those
- 1:08:24Speaker 3: teams efficient passing team?
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: What was the Patriots EPA when they threw the ball?
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: Passing EPA when they threw the ball three times and
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: beat the Bills in Buffalo? Wasn't good? It wasn't no.
- 1:08:33Speaker 3: So that was a they had who had what one completion?
- 1:08:36Speaker 1: Like?
- 1:08:37Speaker 3: How it had been good?
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: I don't know how this made up stat works. You
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: tell me when it's on the scoreboard, and I'll tell
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: you that it matters, okay, And I hope Bears fans
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: are ready some of the time. I hope Bears fans
- 1:08:46Speaker 1: are ready for the inevitable. They lose a big game
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: and heartbreaking fashion, and Ben Johnson gets asked, what you
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: know we would have changed, and he says, well, you know,
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: our EPA was good, so we just need to keep
- 1:08:57Speaker 1: doing it that way. Well, if it's a playoff game,
- 1:08:59Speaker 1: you don't get to keep it that way because your
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: season's over. The only coach who can get away with
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: that technique, there's one coach that answers questions that way. Pee,
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: there's one question, love it. There's one coach that you're
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: gonna like this. There's one coach that answers questions that
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: way can get away with it, and that's Joe Mizzula.
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: When he goes up there when the Celtics looms and says, well,
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: you know, we we liked our looks, so we'll just
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: keep Well, he also has like the Bears aren't exactly
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: the Celtics roster wise.
- 1:09:24Speaker 3: Okay, I don't know if it's going to be successful.
- 1:09:27Speaker 3: I don't like, I don't know if Ben John's going
- 1:09:28Speaker 3: to have the talent. I don't know if they're going
- 1:09:30Speaker 3: to you're to your point, like, I don't know if
- 1:09:31Speaker 3: he's going to be successful in Chicago. But the exact
- 1:09:34Speaker 3: name I was going to bring up, I was going
- 1:09:35Speaker 3: to cross sports and I was going to bring up
- 1:09:37Speaker 3: Joe Mizzula, who is a big believer and expected outcomes
- 1:09:42Speaker 3: right like in terms of you know, shots.
- 1:09:45Speaker 1: Joe Mizzoola is also a big believer in having two
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: of the top what ten players in the league on
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: his roster.
- 1:09:50Speaker 3: I'm not disagreeing. All I'm telling you is is that
- 1:09:52Speaker 3: these people believe you can.
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: Make any philosophy work with Jason Tatum, Jalen Brown, christops Porz,
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: Drew Holiday. I'm leaving get there at big Al Chris
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: I said, I thought, I said them. All I am
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: telling you is that we live in We live in
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: an expected kid get the starting center. We live in
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: an expected world right now?
- 1:10:14Speaker 3: We expected?
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: We don't. We live in reality. We live in the world.
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: That was loud. We live in the reality world. That's
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: the whole point. There, you go. We don't live in
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: the expected world. We live in the reality world. Did
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: you win the game or not? Did the shot go
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: in or not? Did you complete the paths or not?
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: You can't sit there under the game that you lose
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: and say, well, no, that pass a corner of the math.
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: That pass should have been completed, so we're fine it wasn't.
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: Why figure it out. Fixes. Don't just say the numbers
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: will fix themselves, because it's so ridiculous. It's not ridiculous.
- 1:10:45Speaker 1: Everything in the closet.
- 1:10:49Speaker 3: If you expect stick to your process right, and you
- 1:10:53Speaker 3: do what you know, you do it over and over again,
- 1:10:55Speaker 3: and you stick to it and you're consistent with it.
- 1:10:58Speaker 3: The whole point of it is is that eventually, if
- 1:11:02Speaker 3: you are shooting a bunch of threes, but a bunch
- 1:11:05Speaker 3: of them are open, they will eventually go in. And
- 1:11:08Speaker 3: if you have good shooters, Yeah, one night one.
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: Of half night shooters is a big if.
- 1:11:13Speaker 3: But one off night in March might happen. Well, actually
- 1:11:16Speaker 3: one every game in March, but one off night in
- 1:11:19Speaker 3: January or might happen right, But over the course of
- 1:11:25Speaker 3: a season and over a course of a playoff run,
- 1:11:27Speaker 3: you will win the vast majority of your game.
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: What happens when and we've seen the thunder do this
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: to the Celtics. What happens when somebody figures out a
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: way to counter that x's and o's I agree, you can't.
- 1:11:43Speaker 1: I agree. A lot of these guys don't pivot. And
- 1:11:45Speaker 1: that's what my problem is. If if if they figure
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: out a way to counter what he's doing, because now
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: he doesn't have Pinay soul, and he doesn't have that's
- 1:11:53Speaker 1: different Brown, that's personnel, But he doesn't. This is you
- 1:11:59Speaker 1: can't go up there after a loss and say, well,
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: our EPA was good, so we feel good about what
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: we did. What happens when the vikings right, No, Brian
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: bran Flores get hired. Why can't I remember he's the
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: defensive cod What happens when Brian Floores, who's like an
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: actual good football coach, goes up there and comes up
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: with the scheme that counters the strategy? Yeah, I know
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: you are the strategy that Ben Johnson thinks is a
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: good EPA. Okay, But what happens when you're really going
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: to just go up there and be like, well, no,
- 1:12:27Speaker 1: the EPA still works. We're not going to change anything.
- 1:12:29Speaker 3: So the difference is in this scenario with football specifically,
- 1:12:33Speaker 3: I think makes it different than basketball. Basketball there are
- 1:12:37Speaker 3: situations high leverage situations too at the end of games,
- 1:12:40Speaker 3: but truly over the course of four quarters, it's really
- 1:12:44Speaker 3: not until the very end of the game that it's
- 1:12:45Speaker 3: a high leverage situation when it's close.
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: In the regular season, on the playoff playoffs.
- 1:12:50Speaker 3: I would say in football it's different because you have
- 1:12:52Speaker 3: third and fourth downout the game or high leverage situations.
- 1:12:56Speaker 3: I think what happened with the Lions is that they
- 1:12:58Speaker 3: were so aggressive on for down to a fault, especially
- 1:13:02Speaker 3: two years ago in the NFC Championship game. So that's
- 1:13:05Speaker 3: that's your argument, right, It's can those guys when situation
- 1:13:09Speaker 3: comes down to it and Kyle Shanahan has a ten
- 1:13:12Speaker 3: point lead in the fourth quarter of a Super Bowl,
- 1:13:14Speaker 3: can they close it out?
- 1:13:15Speaker 4: Right?
- 1:13:15Speaker 3: Can they call the game to close it out? But
- 1:13:17Speaker 3: the point that that Ben Johnson was making is really
- 1:13:20Speaker 3: nothing different than what Mike Rabel said in his introductory
- 1:13:23Speaker 3: press conference, and that's why I wanted to make sure
- 1:13:26Speaker 3: it was clear. We're not talking about volume of passers.
- 1:13:30Speaker 3: We're talking about having an efficient passing game.
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: Efficient like you shouldn't eed math.
- 1:13:35Speaker 3: If you want to measure that by e PA, you
- 1:13:37Speaker 3: want to measure that by passer rating, like passer rating differential,
- 1:13:41Speaker 3: like what you give up and what you you know,
- 1:13:43Speaker 3: score in terms of passer rating on offense is also
- 1:13:46Speaker 3: a very indicative stat of winning. But what I like
- 1:13:48Speaker 3: so much about what he said the most, and it's
- 1:13:51Speaker 3: gonna go right up. I'm so excited to tell you this.
- 1:13:54Speaker 3: The most exciting part about it was that he said
- 1:13:57Speaker 3: that pass EPA has overcome or surpassed, I should say
- 1:14:02Speaker 3: an importance turnover differential, which I am just in love
- 1:14:06Speaker 3: with that line. That is a fantastic, fantastic thing to
- 1:14:10Speaker 3: hear an NFL head coach actually know the numbers and
- 1:14:13Speaker 3: know that this is the facts of the matter right
- 1:14:15Speaker 3: now in the league. So all turnovers are bad. No
- 1:14:19Speaker 3: one wants to turn the ball over. No one's advocating
- 1:14:21Speaker 3: for turn the ball over. But if you're holding back
- 1:14:25Speaker 3: to you know, protect the football and you know, run
- 1:14:28Speaker 3: clock and control the game and YadA ya, if you're
- 1:14:31Speaker 3: doing all that stuff to a detriment of your passing game,
- 1:14:34Speaker 3: then you were also not going to be successful doing that.
- 1:14:37Speaker 1: So I just I loved it.
- 1:14:39Speaker 3: I loved every second of that answer from Ben Johnson.
- 1:14:42Speaker 3: I also knew it was gonna get you riled up,
- 1:14:44Speaker 3: so I had to bring it up.
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: But that was cool.
- 1:14:46Speaker 3: It was cool to hear a head coach in the
- 1:14:48Speaker 3: NFL talk like that. Whether you like it or not,
- 1:14:51Speaker 3: is a total side.
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: We'll see what happens when they're negative in the turnover
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: margin halfway through the season out of a playoff spot.
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: If you're still talking about that, we'll leave the ep
- 1:15:00Speaker 1: They'll be fine.
- 1:15:00Speaker 3: I'm sure we'll find out during football season. But if
- 1:15:03Speaker 3: you can't sleep until football season starts, let Bob's Discount

- 1:15:43Speaker 3: the phones. I'm sorry we've been keeping you on hold,
- 1:15:45Speaker 3: but I had to get that Ben Johnson thing in
- 1:15:47Speaker 3: there just to rile Alex up. Patty is an ago on.
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: What's up? Patty? Patty?
- 1:15:53Speaker 3: Patty? Are you still thereat?
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: Go ahead?
- 1:15:58Speaker 3: Patty?
- 1:15:59Speaker 2: All right? What's up?
- 1:15:59Speaker 3: Good?
- 1:16:00Speaker 2: So I want to cover a few things. I'll go
- 1:16:01Speaker 2: quick so you can see the out of collars. First thing,
- 1:16:06Speaker 2: I would not be surprised if Mike Brabel when they're
- 1:16:09Speaker 2: having this voluntary workout, what is it the seventh I
- 1:16:12Speaker 2: think yes, he is a very close eye on who's
- 1:16:16Speaker 2: paying attention, who's working hard. And it's subsequently like if
- 1:16:20Speaker 2: we see them take two receivers in the draft, I
- 1:16:22Speaker 2: think that's probably a good indication that like one or
- 1:16:26Speaker 2: two of the receivers wasn't taken the voluntary program too. Seriously,
- 1:16:30Speaker 2: I don't know. That's just something that that popped inside
- 1:16:33Speaker 2: my feeble head, you know. The second thing I want
- 1:16:36Speaker 2: to do, and then I'll end with the question for
- 1:16:37Speaker 2: you guys. I'm going to give you guys a list
- 1:16:39Speaker 2: of four names, and I want you to tell me
- 1:16:42Speaker 2: not likely, likely, or extremely likely that the Patriots would
- 1:16:47Speaker 2: draft these guys. The first one, Jack Sawyer.
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: Likely, Yeah, I'd agree with that. On the list.
- 1:16:56Speaker 2: Second one, Cody Simon.
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: He's gonna get drafted. I don't know. I can see
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: his Patriots at lineback from Ohio State.
- 1:17:04Speaker 3: Yeah, I haven't heard much buzz about him getting drafted.
- 1:17:06Speaker 1: He I could see them being interested either late or
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: is he UDFA I could see them being interested in him,
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: right the lineback from Ohio State, that's what you're talking about.
- 1:17:16Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, okay, he kind of fits their mold smaller.
- 1:17:18Speaker 2: I think he six but one five Yeah, yeah, was
- 1:17:22Speaker 2: the MVC defensive MVP of the National Championship Game and
- 1:17:25Speaker 2: plus the Ohio State ties. I think it makes sense.
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: Yep.
- 1:17:29Speaker 2: Maybe at that tick two thirty eight, or like you said,
- 1:17:31Speaker 2: maybe he goes undrafted and they they bring him in.
- 1:17:34Speaker 2: Last two guys, yep, Drew Kendall likely, very likely.
- 1:17:39Speaker 3: Yeah, there's a lot of u of Drew Kendall hype
- 1:17:43Speaker 3: right now.
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: Yeah, becoming a popular name. Thanks for the colle had
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: more fourth guy come off last week too. I'm sorry,
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: I'm sorry.
- 1:17:50Speaker 2: Go ahead, all right, Yeah, don't hang up on me
- 1:17:53Speaker 2: because I do have a question after Okay, the last one.
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: Yeah, same thing, likely.
- 1:18:00Speaker 2: All right? Yeah, I would love Drew Kendall to be
- 1:18:03Speaker 2: our future center. I would love to see him get
- 1:18:06Speaker 2: taken this year. So the question is, will Campbell is
- 1:18:10Speaker 2: the pick at number four? They're gonna pick a wide
- 1:18:14Speaker 2: receiver with the second pick, whether it be trade up,
- 1:18:17Speaker 2: both of you guys, give me your ideal guy, and
- 1:18:19Speaker 2: I'll take it.
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: Off the air to trade up from the second round.
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: So I'll give you two yeah, or just to I
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: think he meane like if they take Campbell as the
- 1:18:29Speaker 1: next pick, either trade up or staying at thirty eight. Yeah,
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: if they trade up, it's Matthew Golden. I don't even
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: know is Golden going to go where they can realistically
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: get up to I.
- 1:18:38Speaker 3: Have a take on gold It doesn't sound like it.
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: Okay, So then, honestly, you know, I'm kind of starting
- 1:18:43Speaker 1: to like a little bit more. I think I think
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: stay at thirty eight and get him. You might have
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: to move up like within the second round. Can they
- 1:18:50Speaker 1: do the inverse of the trade they made with the
- 1:18:52Speaker 1: Chargers last year to get up from like thirty eight
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: to thirty three or thirty four? Is Elik a Omanner
- 1:18:57Speaker 1: from Stanford? Yeah, I kind of come around on him
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: a little bit. Is like there's something there. I don't
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: I don't put him in the same tier as like
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: Golden or Ibuka or Burden. But if they're gonna stay
- 1:19:09Speaker 1: at thirty eight, and those are those guys all go
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: in the first round and they're gonna trade up a
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: little bit in the second, you know, Trey Harris is
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: in there too, but I think a manner of a
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: little more juice in his game, Like I think his
- 1:19:19Speaker 1: upside it's a little higher. I wouldn't hate them taking
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: that shot.
- 1:19:22Speaker 3: Yeah, that was it.
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: Okay, I don't want to cut you off.
- 1:19:26Speaker 3: Thank thanks, Patty thinks I got call as always really
- 1:19:29Speaker 3: quickly on on your manner since you brought him up. Yeah,
- 1:19:32Speaker 3: I actually really liked his tape when I watched it. Yeah,
- 1:19:37Speaker 3: and then you kind of dig into some of you know,
- 1:19:39Speaker 3: the separation metrics and some of the contested catch starts
- 1:19:43Speaker 3: with all that, it's his His separation is not great,
- 1:19:47Speaker 3: it's not high end. But what I really liked about
- 1:19:50Speaker 3: him was his release and you know, his uh, his
- 1:19:54Speaker 3: acceleration after the release, like he's got a little bit
- 1:19:57Speaker 3: of that down gear to him where he can get vertical.
- 1:19:59Speaker 3: Had tap against Travis Hunter a couple of years ago,
- 1:20:02Speaker 3: probably the best tape that anybody's had against cornerback Travis Hunter.
- 1:20:06Speaker 3: Him ortet, you know, really good, and so I I
- 1:20:10Speaker 3: really liked him. It doesn't sound like it sounds like
- 1:20:13Speaker 3: we're kind of in the minority on him a little bit,
- 1:20:15Speaker 3: like I feel like he's kind of cooled. Yeah, to
- 1:20:18Speaker 3: maybe like a third round guy, fourth round guys. So yeah,
- 1:20:21Speaker 3: I think a little bit.
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: Wow. Yeah, I mean they can get him there, great, awesome.
- 1:20:24Speaker 3: But I think the main reason for that is just
- 1:20:27Speaker 3: some of the separation stuff. Doesn't love him. But we'll see, uh,
- 1:20:31Speaker 3: you know what, what the case may be there. He's
- 1:20:32Speaker 3: also not like totally like he's kind of new to football.
- 1:20:37Speaker 3: I remember talking to him at the Combine about this.
- 1:20:40Speaker 3: I think he's Canadian, I want to say. And I
- 1:20:42Speaker 3: think like hockey was a potential path for him for
- 1:20:45Speaker 3: a while and then he decided to focus on football.
- 1:20:50Speaker 3: I believe that I have that story right, So I
- 1:20:53Speaker 3: think that there that was a piece of it.
- 1:20:55Speaker 1: I don't taking a shot on a guy like that.
- 1:20:57Speaker 3: No, I think he's got really good film. They a
- 1:21:00Speaker 3: player that I compared him to a little bit. Just
- 1:21:05Speaker 3: when I say this name, everybody thinks of the Patriots version,
- 1:21:07Speaker 3: think of the Pittsburgh version of Juju Smith Schuster. Yeah,
- 1:21:11Speaker 3: old Juju Smith Schuster. All right, I just say young
- 1:21:14Speaker 3: Juju Smith.
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: He went a man, went high school in mass Jesses.
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: He was a deep deerfield academy. How totally missed that.
- 1:21:20Speaker 3: Yeah, Yeah, that's a that's like, you know, one of
- 1:21:24Speaker 3: the three good football programs in Massa.
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: Chusets high school football.
- 1:21:28Speaker 3: All right, Tim is in Seattle. It's up, Tim, Hey.
- 1:21:33Speaker 7: I was gone, guys. Hey, So I was hoping that
- 1:21:37Speaker 7: one or both of you could kind of touch on
- 1:21:40Speaker 7: Ariante Erstrie and sort of his performance against you know,
- 1:21:45Speaker 7: elite defensive ends at the left tackle position, if you know,
- 1:21:50Speaker 7: obviously I do Carter being the most recent or relevant
- 1:21:55Speaker 7: I guess in this draft, and then kind of compare
- 1:21:57Speaker 7: that to some of the top end talents that Campbell's
- 1:22:00Speaker 7: facing the SCC and you know what the gap is
- 1:22:06Speaker 7: between those two players based on the tape of the
- 1:22:09Speaker 7: last couple of years.
- 1:22:10Speaker 3: Yeah, sure, thanks for the college. Thanks thanks for the
- 1:22:13Speaker 3: call to him. You're bigger story guy. Yes, he's your
- 1:22:16Speaker 3: type of player. Yep, big dude, yep, big guy block people.
- 1:22:21Speaker 1: Well, but he's he's really athletic too. He's not like
- 1:22:24Speaker 1: he's not Holling Pears, who's just big.
- 1:22:26Speaker 3: Yeah, So like he's also really athletic. He's really athletic.
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: He was on who does the Freaks List? Is it
- 1:22:32Speaker 1: Brugler does the Freaks List?
- 1:22:33Speaker 3: No, it's uh Bruce Felman.
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: Yeah, if you don't know, Bruce Flman every year does
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: like the College Football Freaks List, and it's exactly what
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: it sounds like, the guys that are like insane athletes.
- 1:22:46Speaker 3: I think he was on it twice, so, uh, he's
- 1:22:48Speaker 3: a I see a lot of really good movement in
- 1:22:52Speaker 3: the run game with him. I think there's a little
- 1:22:54Speaker 3: bit of ways to go there. In pass protection, I
- 1:22:56Speaker 3: have some concerns about you know, pad level, hand places,
- 1:23:00Speaker 3: man strike timing thing, you know, just like technical stuff.
- 1:23:04Speaker 3: He balks high like he's kind of like one of
- 1:23:05Speaker 3: these guys that comes over like this and like blocks up.
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: Uh.
- 1:23:08Speaker 3: I don't know Trent Brown, Yeah, like Trent Brown Orlando Brown,
- 1:23:13Speaker 3: like those bigger tackles that aren't exactly nimble but are
- 1:23:16Speaker 3: really hard to go right through and you know, have
- 1:23:19Speaker 3: enough of a kick out of their stands. I think
- 1:23:20Speaker 3: that's probably where his athleticism and pass protection shows up
- 1:23:23Speaker 3: the most, is he's, uh, he kicks out of his
- 1:23:26Speaker 3: stands really nicely.
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: If you if you watch him against Carter, Carter keeps
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: just trying to get deep on him. He's just trying
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: to go straight up field and the end and he's
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: able to stay with Carter a lot in that game
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: going back with them until eventually Carter realized it wasn't
- 1:23:41Speaker 1: gonna work. But like, that's not for guy that size
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: to move backwards like that. Yeah, No, he's not easy.
- 1:23:47Speaker 3: He's got a good kick kick out of his stands,
- 1:23:49Speaker 3: like he gets some real uh covers a lot of
- 1:23:51Speaker 3: ground there, which makes the guy go around, you know,
- 1:23:55Speaker 3: further away from the quarterback and keeps that leverage. I
- 1:23:58Speaker 3: would just say, you know, there's a couple of times
- 1:24:00Speaker 3: on film where he lets guys into his chest. He
- 1:24:02Speaker 3: should not be getting bull rushed. Yeah, at that size,
- 1:24:05Speaker 3: he does get bull rushed on occasion. And his redirect
- 1:24:08Speaker 3: like his ability to change directions and slide his feet
- 1:24:11Speaker 3: isn't great, isn't high end. I wouldn't say, but he's
- 1:24:15Speaker 3: a great run blocker. He's a punishing run blocker, A
- 1:24:18Speaker 3: kind of a weapon, honestly in that area, like Minnesota
- 1:24:21Speaker 3: would move him around like they'd play him in some
- 1:24:23Speaker 3: unbalanced lines and move him to the right side, like
- 1:24:26Speaker 3: goal line and things like that and just run right
- 1:24:28Speaker 3: behind nurserie just to get you know, punch the ball in.
- 1:24:31Speaker 3: I like his tap a lot. I just don't know
- 1:24:33Speaker 3: if he's going to be a great pass protector in
- 1:24:35Speaker 3: the league. He's probably gonna be one of those guys
- 1:24:38Speaker 3: that's a really good run blocker and just an adequate
- 1:24:41Speaker 3: pass protector.
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: He is probably like in an ideal world, I think
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: he'd be a right tackle. Yeah, but he's a guy
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: that I would give a shot at left tackle. And
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: if that doesn't work, he moved him over for Morgan Moses.
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: But yeah, I mean he's got some tremendous tools. You
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: give him to Doug Marone. I do think that there's
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: a like he could be. He's not going to be
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: Joe Thomas, but he can be starting left tackle in
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: the NFL.
- 1:25:04Speaker 3: Yeah, I agree. I I you know, kind of kicked
- 1:25:06Speaker 3: around a couple of comms with him. You know, Brandon
- 1:25:09Speaker 3: Thorne has Bobby Massey. I'm not super familiar with Bobby Massey.
- 1:25:12Speaker 3: It goes back a little bit too far from me.
- 1:25:14Speaker 3: But you know, like I think all those big tackles.
- 1:25:17Speaker 3: You know, he's not quite as big as Trent Brown
- 1:25:19Speaker 3: or Orlando Brown, but I think he's kind of plays
- 1:25:22Speaker 3: this a way, right. I think both those guys are
- 1:25:25Speaker 3: in a similar category. All Right, Don is in Philly.
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: What's up.
- 1:25:28Speaker 2: Don Hey, guys, can you hear me?
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: Yes? Go for it.
- 1:25:34Speaker 8: Okay, got two hypothetical draft questions for you. If first
- 1:25:38Speaker 8: one should just be a quick.
- 1:25:39Speaker 4: Yes and no.
- 1:25:40Speaker 8: Second one may be a little more detailed. But let's
- 1:25:43Speaker 8: say the Browns do end up getting Kirk Cousins, and
- 1:25:48Speaker 8: that may be it might make the more entice to
- 1:25:51Speaker 8: take Travis Hunter too. That leaves Abdull Carter still there
- 1:25:56Speaker 8: at three. If the Giants don't feel humforable taking Abdull
- 1:26:02Speaker 8: Carter doesn't fit the system and they feel it's a
- 1:26:04Speaker 8: little too rich for shudor there. Do you think it's
- 1:26:07Speaker 8: crazy for the pass to call the Giants and say, hey,
- 1:26:11Speaker 8: we'll give you two or two third round picks to
- 1:26:13Speaker 8: move up one, yes and secure Carter?
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: Because if the Giants you're gonna aren't gonna take them,
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: what are you doing. Nobody's gonna pay the quarterback tax
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: to trade up unless they want the quarterback Like, and
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: this is I know it's gonna be us No. But
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: the same thing I've heard people say, like, well, if
- 1:26:28Speaker 1: the Giants aren't, you know, why not trade up to
- 1:26:30Speaker 1: three to get with the Giants to get Travis Hunter?
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: Like why why aren't we talking more about the Patriots
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: trading up? Because one or two things is gonna happen.
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: Either the Giants want Travis Hunter Abdul Carter wherever's on
- 1:26:40Speaker 1: the board and they're not going to trade the pick,
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: or two they want the quarterback, in which case there's
- 1:26:45Speaker 1: no need to trade up because then you get the
- 1:26:47Speaker 1: guy at four. So yeah, the Patriots would not need
- 1:26:50Speaker 1: to do that. Call the Giants bluff, let him take Carter,
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: Let somebody else pay an exorbitant price to trade up.
- 1:26:56Speaker 1: I don't think either player is quite worth that.
- 1:26:58Speaker 3: Where do you stand?
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: Agreed? Thanks again? Question?
- 1:27:02Speaker 3: Oh yeah, you're better at that to me?
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 1:27:04Speaker 3: Go ahead, don what do you got?
- 1:27:06Speaker 8: Sorry about that?
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: Guys?
- 1:27:07Speaker 2: All right?
- 1:27:07Speaker 8: So last one, more realistic option is obviously Carter and
- 1:27:12Speaker 8: Hunter being off the board, which leaves us either saying
- 1:27:15Speaker 8: we're going still position or we're going to tackle. And
- 1:27:18Speaker 8: for this, let's just say they go Campbell. What's a
- 1:27:23Speaker 8: better floor for the Patriots if you know your top
- 1:27:27Speaker 8: five pick who's supposed to be a tackle is actually
- 1:27:29Speaker 8: a great guard for your top five pick that's supposed
- 1:27:32Speaker 8: to be a number one wide receiver. Let's say Ted
- 1:27:35Speaker 8: ends up being a high end number two.
- 1:27:39Speaker 3: That's a good question thanks to the call on So
- 1:27:41Speaker 3: what happens if what's better off guard Will Campbell or
- 1:27:46Speaker 3: wide receiver to Ted?
- 1:27:48Speaker 1: That's the question.
- 1:27:48Speaker 3: I would say wide receiver to Ted is a little
- 1:27:51Speaker 3: bit better off, but that's just because wide receivers are
- 1:27:53Speaker 3: inherently more valuable than I think.
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: Wide receiver two is probably better usage of the pick.
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: But for like you can get wide receivers, I'm not
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: worried about them finding a wide receiver.
- 1:28:02Speaker 3: But yeah, guard, besides running back, you know, Garden running
- 1:28:08Speaker 3: back at the two least most valuable in.
- 1:28:10Speaker 1: That So Campbell's still a better player in that scenario.
- 1:28:14Speaker 3: Yeah, but it's just in terms of value. You know what,
- 1:28:17Speaker 3: what would you prefer? I would prefer the wide receiver too.
- 1:28:19Speaker 3: I've said it before, and I I there was a
- 1:28:21Speaker 3: question about Tet that I want to get to. So
- 1:28:23Speaker 3: it's a good segue. But I've said it before. You know,
- 1:28:25Speaker 3: I don't think it's the worst case scenario that if
- 1:28:29Speaker 3: they were to draft Ted McMillan, even if he doesn't
- 1:28:32Speaker 3: end up being your Jamar Chase, but if he's your
- 1:28:34Speaker 3: T Higgins, you know, you can still get Jamar Chase
- 1:28:37Speaker 3: next offse So talking.
- 1:28:38Speaker 1: About him as like a T. Higgins wide receiver too great, Like, yeah,
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: that's obviously, that's obviously Like I think more like if
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: he's like a even Jordan Addison's probably a little rich
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: for what I'm trying to say, like a true George Pickens,
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: George Pickens even kind of yeah, George Pickens and George
- 1:28:59Speaker 1: Pickens versus if Will Campbell is like Quentin Nelson, right,
- 1:29:04Speaker 1: who would you rather have George Pickens or Quentin Nelson?
- 1:29:09Speaker 3: Probably Quentin Nelson. But but you're talking about maybe, so
- 1:29:13Speaker 3: maybe that's too rich. But I hear what you're saying, Yeah,
- 1:29:16Speaker 3: Joe Toney.
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: Yeah, Like if he's like a wide receiver two, that's
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: a wide receiver two because the team is a really
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: good wide receiver obviously, Yeah, I'm taking him. But if
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: he's yeah, I can't I get like the put this
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: way the kind of wide receiver two that doesn't come
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: to your head right away, because he is a very
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: true wide receiver too. If he's that kind of player,
- 1:29:39Speaker 1: If he's Alan Lazard, Yeah, if he's Alan Lazard or
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: you're getting you know, a top five Guarden football, who
- 1:29:46Speaker 1: would you rather have top five guard. Yeah, that's more
- 1:29:49Speaker 1: how I looked at that.
- 1:29:50Speaker 3: So the other question that came up about Ted, we
- 1:29:53Speaker 3: had a few emails about this, this video that's gone
- 1:29:56Speaker 3: viral of his of him saying that he doesn't like
- 1:29:58Speaker 3: watching film.
- 1:29:59Speaker 1: Oh yeah, we say it doesn't like watching football.
- 1:30:01Speaker 3: Yeah, he doesn't like watching football, doesn't like watching film.
- 1:30:05Speaker 3: I try not to overreact too much that kind of stuff.
- 1:30:08Speaker 3: Each each guy's wired differently, Each guy has a different approach.
- 1:30:13Speaker 3: I think I would think that Rabel would prefer the junkie, yes, right,
- 1:30:18Speaker 3: the guy that is going to be you know, you
- 1:30:20Speaker 3: call it a Jim Ratt and basketball, you know, the
- 1:30:22Speaker 3: guy that's gonna be here constantly and working and grinding
- 1:30:25Speaker 3: and watching film and studying and all that kind of stuff.
- 1:30:28Speaker 3: So I don't know if Ted McMillan is talented enough
- 1:30:33Speaker 3: to not have that element. But at the same time,
- 1:30:35Speaker 3: I'm not like completely throwing him off the board because.
- 1:30:38Speaker 1: Of it either. Yeah, he still said he watches the film,
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: needs to watch, right, he just doesn't do it on
- 1:30:42Speaker 1: his own afterwards. Yeah, there's other you know, we see
- 1:30:46Speaker 1: a ton of workout videos for him. Maybe he's more
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: an on field workout guy. Yeah, that probably doesn't play
- 1:30:51Speaker 1: well for Mike Rabel. Yeah, as a whole, it doesn't
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: necessarily change my outside of the quarterback position, like quarterback, center, linebacker,
- 1:31:00Speaker 1: maybe corner. It's not as much of a red flag
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: as it maybe initially sounds like if a quarterback said that,
- 1:31:05Speaker 1: that's a whole other conversation. That's a massive red flag.
- 1:31:09Speaker 3: So like with Ted McMillan too, he has you know,
- 1:31:11Speaker 3: Kyler Murray, right, you got it right in the contract
- 1:31:13Speaker 3: that can.
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: That's that's or Jameis Winston they gave the blank DVD.
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: My my favorite.
- 1:31:19Speaker 3: Well, what I like, you know is that it's next
- 1:31:21Speaker 3: level now because of the technology, So players get iPads
- 1:31:25Speaker 3: now and it actually tells screen time, like how long
- 1:31:29Speaker 3: the iPad has been open, you know, so like teams
- 1:31:31Speaker 3: can actually monitor, uh, if the players are doing their homework.
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: I'd also say, I get that. You give JaMarcus Russell
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: the DVD, you tell them to come back the next
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: day and tell you what's on it. Yeah, yeah, there's
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: nothing on it because you can open up the iPad
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: and just leave the screen open, right, you could do
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: that and count that's right. He didn't even put that
- 1:31:48Speaker 1: thing in to see what was on there. I would
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: also Marcus Russell.
- 1:31:51Speaker 3: Nowadays, they've streamlined the film watching process so much for
- 1:31:54Speaker 3: these players, where especially at those positions where you're one
- 1:31:57Speaker 3: on one with somebody specifically most likely like they could
- 1:32:01Speaker 3: say that, you know, I'm just I'm not saying he
- 1:32:03Speaker 3: doesn't watch film. I'm just using him as an example.
- 1:32:05Speaker 3: They could say to Christian Gonzales, you got Jamar Chase
- 1:32:08Speaker 3: this week, So here are all of the cups of
- 1:32:10Speaker 3: Jamar Chase, you know, And it could be they can
- 1:32:13Speaker 3: whittle down four games to thirty minutes so he doesn't
- 1:32:17Speaker 3: have to sit there and watch for five hours. It's
- 1:32:19Speaker 3: a you know, a one hour project instead. So I
- 1:32:22Speaker 3: think there's a lot of ways around that, especially for
- 1:32:24Speaker 3: non quarterbacks. Yeah, Curtis emails in here. I actually think,
- 1:32:29Speaker 3: you know, he makes a decent point here. He says that, well,
- 1:32:33Speaker 3: I don't disagree with this, but he said that he
- 1:32:37Speaker 3: doesn't want to leave left tackle to just one draft pick,
- 1:32:40Speaker 3: like you know, it's Will Campbell and you sit and
- 1:32:42Speaker 3: forget it and you're you're all good. So he's wondering,
- 1:32:45Speaker 3: you know, about double dipping at tackle and who are
- 1:32:47Speaker 3: some of the guys that we like later on in
- 1:32:49Speaker 3: the draft double dip. We talked a little bit about that,
- 1:32:52Speaker 3: you're Holland Peters guy because he's big.
- 1:32:54Speaker 1: Well, I'll say this, so they're gonna double dip a
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: left tackle specifically. Yeah, I like Hallan Pierce. He's he
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: is a right tackle. He is and if they want
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: to draft him to develop him behind Morgan Moses, I
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: would be all for that. If they want to get
- 1:33:05Speaker 1: another left tackle later. So, like I guess Jacoby was undrafted, right,
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: but they Nikhil Harry and they Jacoby Myers, and Jacoby
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: was the one who worked out. Yeah, Carson Vincent Alabama
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: and M four years of starting experience, had a really
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: good Senior Bowl. I think his game translates well. He's
- 1:33:22Speaker 1: very technically skilled, he has the athleticism, he has the size,
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: all that he just it's a jumping level and he
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: maybe his ceiling is a little lower because he's an
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: older prospect coming from the FCS. FCS, But if they're
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: gonna be like, all right, we're gonna take well Campbell
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: at the top, we want to add another left tackle
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: in the mix. Carson Vincent Alabama, A and M. That's
- 1:33:40Speaker 1: my guy. Yeah, I like him. He might be able
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: to play some guard too, so he gives you some flexibility. Yeah.
- 1:33:44Speaker 3: I liked him as maybe as a left guard, which
- 1:33:47Speaker 3: I thought would would help tackle. I think you could
- 1:33:50Speaker 3: play tackle, but I think you know, he could play either,
- 1:33:52Speaker 3: and maybe bring him in and let him compete at.
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: Both spot and oh yeah, no, I get him in
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: the building, have him do whatever. I think he'd be
- 1:33:59Speaker 1: a good guy to get building.
- 1:34:00Speaker 3: I'm still not one hundred percent sold at Anthony Belton
- 1:34:02Speaker 3: is going to go as as high as everybody thinks
- 1:34:04Speaker 3: he is. Yeah, I think he's still a little bit
- 1:34:06Speaker 3: more of a project to me. Another guy that I
- 1:34:08Speaker 3: think there's really the Trent Brown copy. Another guy that
- 1:34:11Speaker 3: I think is probably right tackle. Yeah, but he's uh,
- 1:34:14Speaker 3: I just I think he's got some things he's gotta
- 1:34:16Speaker 3: he's gotta work on technique wise, I don't think he's
- 1:34:18Speaker 3: you know, you're gonna draft a guy in the top
- 1:34:20Speaker 3: one hundred, you're probably thinking that he's going to be
- 1:34:22Speaker 3: at least a starter by his second year in the league.
- 1:34:25Speaker 3: I I don't know if Anthony Belton will be, you know,
- 1:34:28Speaker 3: a starter period. Like I still think there's some boomer
- 1:34:30Speaker 3: bus there, so maybe it's not as deep as you know.
- 1:34:33Speaker 3: Vincent's probably more fifth, sixth round, like Belton's probably third,
- 1:34:37Speaker 3: fourth round somewhere around there. I mentioned Charles Grant from
- 1:34:40Speaker 3: William Mary. He's probably gonna be a fringe top one
- 1:34:43Speaker 3: hundred guy. Yeah, that will just be about you know,
- 1:34:46Speaker 3: level of competition if teams.
- 1:34:48Speaker 1: He's kind of day to Carson Vincent. Yeah.
- 1:34:50Speaker 3: So you know, just looking at it, like Nick sel
- 1:34:52Speaker 3: Deveri from a couple of years ago, he was an
- 1:34:55Speaker 3: early fourth round pick. I think he might have been
- 1:34:57Speaker 3: the first pick of the fourth round. You know, smaller
- 1:34:59Speaker 3: school guy similar ding, you know, stands out on tape.
- 1:35:02Speaker 3: Amongst the rest of those guys. There was one other guy, oh,
- 1:35:05Speaker 3: Jalen Rivers from Miami. I think that he's probably a guard,
- 1:35:09Speaker 3: but he's big, he's got long arms, like, he's got
- 1:35:13Speaker 3: you know, decent feet like I think he's probably a
- 1:35:15Speaker 3: tackle slash guard, you know, like kind of like a
- 1:35:17Speaker 3: Mike on winhu Ish type player. But he might have
- 1:35:20Speaker 3: some potential there as well, you know, mid mid rounds,
- 1:35:24Speaker 3: you know, fourth, fifth round, something like that.
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: There's nothing we got from Elliot Wolf by the way,
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: with Felger that if there was any wonder Michael Won,
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: who's the right guard? Oh good, So that's well you
- 1:35:36Speaker 1: never know with him, Like you say that kind of sarcastically.
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: But how many times have we thought good Mike on Win,
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: who finally has his position and then he changed? Yeah?
- 1:35:46Speaker 3: All right, So this is a question from Curtis, I
- 1:35:50Speaker 3: think is a good way to kind of whittle this
- 1:35:52Speaker 3: down of our takes on these on this class. Okay, so, uh,
- 1:35:57Speaker 3: every player is on the board, we're making the pick.
- 1:36:01Speaker 3: You're in the GM, you're in the GM chair. Ye,
- 1:36:05Speaker 3: give me your top four right now?
- 1:36:08Speaker 1: So like if quarterbacks go one, two, three, basically sure, yep,
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: look at that one for the Patriots, just Alex Bark
- 1:36:15Speaker 1: general manager. Oh as a whole, if I'm just setting
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: aboard as a whole, Yeah, Carter Hunter, Genty, Campbell, Okay,
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: what if you're the Patriots specifically Campbell Memboo instead of
- 1:36:31Speaker 1: Gent Yeah, I feel like I kind of feel the
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: same way I have. And then I probably Tet I
- 1:36:39Speaker 1: think would probably be the fifth guy.
- 1:36:41Speaker 3: I thought about that, you know, if it would be
- 1:36:44Speaker 3: Warren or it would it be Tet. You know, I
- 1:36:46Speaker 3: feel like both those guys kind of for different reasons.
- 1:36:49Speaker 3: I'm between the two of them.
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: Also, Yeah, I go Tet because he's a little bit younger,
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: he has more upside, and just that the value of
- 1:36:57Speaker 1: that wide receiver position honestly might have Jalen Walker up
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: there too.
- 1:37:03Speaker 3: Yeah, I have Jalen Walker high too. So you know,
- 1:37:06Speaker 3: I'm starting to have the spreadsheet every year. Yeah, I
- 1:37:09Speaker 3: should have it out soon ish. I'm starting to come
- 1:37:12Speaker 3: to an end here, thankfully spent like all weekend grinding
- 1:37:16Speaker 3: defensive linemen just to get through it all. And I
- 1:37:21Speaker 3: have right now, I have you know, way I do it,
- 1:37:24Speaker 3: you know, different like tiers, like a grade scale. Right,
- 1:37:27Speaker 3: And I have three guys that I would consider blue
- 1:37:31Speaker 3: chip prospects in this draft. I looked, you know, made
- 1:37:33Speaker 3: sure I had the accurate number. I had eight last
- 1:37:35Speaker 3: year in that draft. So you know, our two drafts ago,
- 1:37:39Speaker 3: I guess you want to call it that. You know,
- 1:37:41Speaker 3: Caleb Williams, Jayden Daniels, Drake may Neighbors, Harrison the Dunees,
- 1:37:46Speaker 3: ay All brock Bowers. Eight guys. Yeah, in this draft
- 1:37:50Speaker 3: I have three Hunter Carter Genty, Yeah, Hunter Carter genty
- 1:37:54Speaker 3: And that's it. So I think the fourth spot i'd
- 1:37:56Speaker 3: probably give the Campbell. I think he's probably the fourth best.
- 1:38:00Speaker 3: But they're just from a grade in the board, like
- 1:38:03Speaker 3: real grade, there is a drop off.
- 1:38:05Speaker 1: They drop off from three to four significantly. Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:38:08Speaker 3: And I heard Ryan Poles the Bears GM talking about
- 1:38:11Speaker 3: this yesterday at the league meetings and he just said,
- 1:38:15Speaker 3: you know, echoed what everybody else is echoing. This is
- 1:38:17Speaker 3: one of those drafts where there's like three premium blue
- 1:38:21Speaker 3: chip players at the top and then from like four
- 1:38:25Speaker 3: to he said, almost all the way to one hundred.
- 1:38:28Speaker 3: Like it's it's like all just really solid NFL starting
- 1:38:33Speaker 3: caliber talent, but not not special. Yeah, And it's just
- 1:38:38Speaker 3: one of those types of drafts. And I think, you know,
- 1:38:40Speaker 3: just in my process just going through it, it's it's
- 1:38:44Speaker 3: quite a remark, Like I have so many guys that
- 1:38:47Speaker 3: I feel like are like second third round grades, right, Like,
- 1:38:50Speaker 3: just like so many and usually you project those guys
- 1:38:52Speaker 3: to be eventual starters in the league, solid NFL starters
- 1:38:57Speaker 3: probably you know, more like complimentary to solid starting type
- 1:39:00Speaker 3: of caliber players. But there's there's a lot of them
- 1:39:03Speaker 3: in this There's probably you know, upwards of seventy five
- 1:39:07Speaker 3: of those guys in this draft, so you know, having
- 1:39:10Speaker 3: those that extra third round pick is nice for the Patriots.
- 1:39:12Speaker 3: But I also just mentioned, you know, this is why
- 1:39:14Speaker 3: when we talk about trade downs, like it's just it's
- 1:39:17Speaker 3: not the year where you're gonna get the value right
- 1:39:19Speaker 3: to be trading down because everybody feels the same way
- 1:39:21Speaker 3: about the board. Like everybody feels the same way. So
- 1:39:24Speaker 3: it's tough, all right, But yeah, I think we're together
- 1:39:27Speaker 3: on that. I think, you know, genty Cars and Hunter
- 1:39:30Speaker 3: on their own, and then Campbell is the next best prospect.
- 1:39:33Speaker 3: All right, let's go back to the phones here. Mark
- 1:39:36Speaker 3: is in Connecticut. What's up, Mark?
- 1:39:39Speaker 4: Hey, what's going on?
- 1:39:40Speaker 1: Guys? How you've been good? Good?
- 1:39:42Speaker 4: We're doing I don't not bad any word on. A
- 1:39:46Speaker 4: buddy of mine was just talking about this that the
- 1:39:50Speaker 4: Browns and the Dallas Cowboys might be talking about a
- 1:39:54Speaker 4: trade of quarterbacks and the number two pick. Didn't know
- 1:39:57Speaker 4: if you guys had heard about that.
- 1:39:59Speaker 1: And yeah, I think that that was shot down.
- 1:40:02Speaker 4: Okay, very good.
- 1:40:03Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:40:03Speaker 4: The other thing was, what is the realistic possibility if
- 1:40:09Speaker 4: again Abdua Carter and Travis Hunter are off the board,
- 1:40:13Speaker 4: that they can move down to eight or nine and
- 1:40:15Speaker 4: pick Penn State tight end. What is the realistic possibility
- 1:40:20Speaker 4: that they can make that happen again a second round pick?
- 1:40:22Speaker 4: If you guys got any intel on that, or is
- 1:40:24Speaker 4: the kind of they're gonna probably have to stick and pick?
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: Thanks for the call, Mark, What do you think? I mean?
- 1:40:31Speaker 1: I don't know if trying to think of there, I
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: don't know if if Tyler Warren gets to eight or nine, Yeah,
- 1:40:37Speaker 1: to begin with, does is a second round pick? Would
- 1:40:40Speaker 1: it costs to move back that far? Maybe I'd like
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: to get a little more than that in that scenario.
- 1:40:48Speaker 1: I think the trades more realistic. I don't know that
- 1:40:50Speaker 1: Warren gets to nine.
- 1:40:53Speaker 3: Well, we keep talking about the class in the same way,
- 1:40:56Speaker 3: and with Warren getting to nine, it's just who's going
- 1:40:59Speaker 3: in between? Right and we know this class doesn't have
- 1:41:03Speaker 3: the blue chip talent like I just so.
- 1:41:05Speaker 1: He's ten on the consensus board right now. But that's
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: with both quarterbacks going high. Is he gonna go ahead
- 1:41:11Speaker 1: of Mason Graham? I think that's a coin flip, is he?
- 1:41:14Speaker 1: Or is Mason Graham gonna go ahead of him? I
- 1:41:16Speaker 1: think that's a coin flip. Is Teed McMillan gonna go
- 1:41:19Speaker 1: ahead of him. I think that's a coin flip. They're
- 1:41:22Speaker 1: genty in there too, Like, so that's what four players
- 1:41:26Speaker 1: including Shitter a lot a lot would have to go
- 1:41:29Speaker 1: their way. And it's also so I was thinking about
- 1:41:31Speaker 1: this the other day and I kind of brought up
- 1:41:32Speaker 1: earlier on the show, and let me ask you this, Right, So, okay,
- 1:41:35Speaker 1: Hunter and Carter gone, they like Membo and Campbell and
- 1:41:38Speaker 1: they figure, okay, like we can move back and maybe
- 1:41:41Speaker 1: they like you know, Jalen Walker two or genty two
- 1:41:43Speaker 1: or whatever. Yeah, it's like, all right, you know, there's
- 1:41:45Speaker 1: three or four players we take here. We will move
- 1:41:48Speaker 1: back a couple of spots and we'll be good, but
- 1:41:51Speaker 1: the offers maybe aren't there. So let's say it's moving
- 1:41:53Speaker 1: back like with the Raiders at six even just two spots, Like,
- 1:41:57Speaker 1: at what point if the Raiders off for you a
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: fourth are you doing that for just a fourth round pick?
- 1:42:03Speaker 1: Or at that point are you gonna keep the choice
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: you have and take the guy you really want? You know,
- 1:42:07Speaker 1: they'll get an offer, but are you gonna I don't
- 1:42:10Speaker 1: know what the offer is gonna be there that's gonna
- 1:42:12Speaker 1: be worth giving up that choice?
- 1:42:13Speaker 3: Yeah, I think the only way that you get an
- 1:42:16Speaker 3: offer that is really worth considering in terms of a
- 1:42:22Speaker 3: value for the pick. Yeah, is if Hunter or Abdul
- 1:42:25Speaker 3: Carter falls in your lap and some team offers you
- 1:42:30Speaker 3: a Will Anderson esque package. I'm still in the camp
- 1:42:35Speaker 3: that we might say no to it. But I'm just saying, like,
- 1:42:37Speaker 3: I don't think the pick is gonna have any value
- 1:42:40Speaker 3: unless that's the scenario that we're talking a right, and
- 1:42:43Speaker 3: so when I hear you know, the two things that
- 1:42:44Speaker 3: I think have frustrated me the most about this because
- 1:42:46Speaker 3: I like to sometimes you know, yeah, have access to
- 1:42:49Speaker 3: crime in this situation. The two things I've heard the
- 1:42:52Speaker 3: most in this draft season that have frustrated me to
- 1:42:55Speaker 3: no end, trade down. Everybody wants to trade down. The
- 1:42:59Speaker 3: whole world wants to trade down. Nobody wants to pick
- 1:43:01Speaker 3: where they're at right now, including maybe the Tennessee Titans.
- 1:43:04Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:43:05Speaker 3: Like, literally nobody wants to make the Did you see.
- 1:43:07Speaker 1: This one was going around yesterday on Twitter? We should
- 1:43:11Speaker 1: trade back. There's no good value left where my team
- 1:43:13Speaker 1: is drafting. But I'm sure another team would like to
- 1:43:15Speaker 1: give up assets to move up to the same spot.
- 1:43:18Speaker 1: I think, Yeah, we're all at right now.
- 1:43:20Speaker 3: Yeah, it's just there's if we all agree that there's
- 1:43:24Speaker 3: nobody worth taking at four overall. Yeah, if Abdul Carter
- 1:43:27Speaker 3: and Travis Hunter are off the board, the whole league agrees.
- 1:43:31Speaker 1: So why would anybody get up adding a set? Now
- 1:43:34Speaker 1: you moved out of nine or ten, you're missing on
- 1:43:36Speaker 1: a lot of players that you're probably missing on both tackles,
- 1:43:38Speaker 1: you're you're missing. I think you're gonna miss on gent D,
- 1:43:41Speaker 1: you might miss on Warren. Like, is a second round
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: pick enough for you to do that? Yeah? No, it's
- 1:43:50Speaker 1: not for me. Just a second round pick. I I
- 1:43:52Speaker 1: don't think for me either. Yeah.
- 1:43:54Speaker 3: The other thing that's been annoying drive this entired process, Well,
- 1:44:00Speaker 3: you're gonna take a tackle that high? You know, I
- 1:44:03Speaker 3: like him to be you know, Anthony Munos or Orlando
- 1:44:07Speaker 3: Pace or Joe Thomas, and it's like same, Like obviously
- 1:44:12Speaker 3: everybody would like it to be a Hall of Fame
- 1:44:14Speaker 3: caliber tackle. They don't exist in this draft, Like, those
- 1:44:18Speaker 3: guys don't exist. So if you're taking Will Campbell out
- 1:44:22Speaker 3: and you're saying I'm not taking him or I'm not
- 1:44:24Speaker 3: taking Armand Membu because he's not Jonathan Ogden, Right, So
- 1:44:29Speaker 3: I'm taking him out. I mean, I'm gonna draft Teed McMillan. Well,
- 1:44:33Speaker 3: Teed McMillan's not Julio Jones, So it's the same thing, right, Like,
- 1:44:37Speaker 3: there's no blue chip player outside of those two guys
- 1:44:40Speaker 3: in this draft and genty at four overall to take
- 1:44:43Speaker 3: at tackle, So like, you can't you can't just say, oh, well,
- 1:44:46Speaker 3: I wouldn't take a tackle that high unless he's gonna
- 1:44:49Speaker 3: be Jonathan Ogden.
- 1:44:50Speaker 1: Well, in this draft, there is no Jonathan. I've said
- 1:44:52Speaker 1: this to you. If and very different players stylistically, Yeah,
- 1:44:57Speaker 1: but if Will Campbell or armand Membu becomes Nate Solder, right,
- 1:45:01Speaker 1: he's a solid starting left tackle here for ten years,
- 1:45:03Speaker 1: Matt Like, fine, excuse me, fine, Matt Light he's here
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: for ten years. Maybe he's not making Pro Bowls, but
- 1:45:11Speaker 1: he's not a guy we're talking about needing to replace. Right,
- 1:45:13Speaker 1: If you feel good that he's your left tackle and
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: a great locker room guy, yeah, both are. If you
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: get that guy at four in this draft. This might
- 1:45:23Speaker 1: not apply next year. A not picking up four next year, yeah,
- 1:45:25Speaker 1: but in this draft, if you get a guy who
- 1:45:28Speaker 1: plays left tackle here for eight or ten years, set
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: it and forget it, and that's it. I'm good with that.
- 1:45:35Speaker 1: I am perfectly fine with that. That is a win
- 1:45:38Speaker 1: for me. Yeah, And is the is that setting the
- 1:45:41Speaker 1: bar too low? I don't know. Maybe look at this draft,
- 1:45:45Speaker 1: I think that's kind of what you're hoping for. And
- 1:45:47Speaker 1: I'd rather get that at tackle then get that at receiver.
- 1:45:52Speaker 1: Whereas you look at next year, there's gonna be guys
- 1:45:54Speaker 1: so ceilings much higher than that. So I just that's
- 1:45:58Speaker 1: where I'm Matt, we're taking. Hey, the Red Sox is
- 1:46:01Speaker 1: sent a Christian Campbell like.
- 1:46:02Speaker 3: Jonathan Ogden, Orlando Pace, Joe Thomas, you know, Anthony Munos,
- 1:46:06Speaker 3: like he's the names. I Well, if that's the guy
- 1:46:08Speaker 3: that you could draft at four, then you take the tackle.
- 1:46:10Speaker 3: It's like, no kidding, Yeah, great, like no kidding, you
- 1:46:14Speaker 3: would take a top five tackle of all time? Is
- 1:46:18Speaker 3: the only way that you're going to take the tackle
- 1:46:19Speaker 3: that high? Well, then this draft you're screwed, Like you
- 1:46:22Speaker 3: there's nobody for you to draft. You're me, You're right,
- 1:46:25Speaker 3: you're letting the clock run out on the pick you
- 1:46:27Speaker 3: know a couple of months ago? Right, like great, great plan?
- 1:46:32Speaker 1: Uh?
- 1:46:33Speaker 3: Paul here emails in about wingspan. I have a I
- 1:46:36Speaker 3: have a tiny axa grib about this. So he asked,
- 1:46:40Speaker 3: you know, talking about Will Campbell the armley discrepancies thirty
- 1:46:44Speaker 3: three versus thirty two and five days from the combine,
- 1:46:47Speaker 3: and he asked, why we're not talking about wingspan, and uh,
- 1:46:50Speaker 3: you know that his wingspan is a bigger outliar, and
- 1:46:52Speaker 3: why we're not talking about both measurements. So I've actually,
- 1:46:55Speaker 3: you know, talked, asked around about the wingspan thing and
- 1:46:58Speaker 3: how much the wingspan thing is is really mattering. And
- 1:47:02Speaker 3: I got to be honest with you, outside of like
- 1:47:03Speaker 3: mock draftable charts where it just looks bad, that is,
- 1:47:06Speaker 3: wingspan is like all the way over here in the
- 1:47:08Speaker 3: you know, one percentile or whatever. I don't think a
- 1:47:11Speaker 3: ton of NFL teams of any idea or care about wingspans.
- 1:47:15Speaker 1: I don't.
- 1:47:16Speaker 3: I don't think it's a metric that anybody's really focusing
- 1:47:18Speaker 3: too much on length. And arm length is tangible, right,
- 1:47:22Speaker 3: Like you have to have extension, you have to have
- 1:47:25Speaker 3: arm length. You have to be able to you know,
- 1:47:27Speaker 3: get out to rushers, you have to like that's a
- 1:47:29Speaker 3: tangible thing of how this could impact the player. We
- 1:47:31Speaker 3: talk about wingspan we're talking about how much room he
- 1:47:34Speaker 3: takes up, like how wide of a body he has.
- 1:47:36Speaker 1: How often are you in this position arms out wide
- 1:47:39Speaker 1: as a tackle, Like if you're here, something's gone wrong.
- 1:47:42Speaker 3: Yeah, maybe wingspan would be a little bit more important
- 1:47:46Speaker 3: for a guard. I was gonna say, just because of
- 1:47:48Speaker 3: the bigger bodies that you're taking up right exactly, but
- 1:47:52Speaker 3: at tackle. I just don't think that that. I think
- 1:47:56Speaker 3: a lot of this stuff and I don't mean to this.
- 1:47:58Speaker 3: I'm right with all of you, with all of you,
- 1:48:00Speaker 3: with a lot of this stuff though, is like we
- 1:48:03Speaker 3: talk a lot more about this stuff than people that
- 1:48:05Speaker 3: actually make decisions do.
- 1:48:06Speaker 1: Was it wingspan or arm length we did with Drake
- 1:48:10Speaker 1: last year where it was like, you don't want the
- 1:48:11Speaker 1: quarterbacks wingspan to be too long because then it's the
- 1:48:14Speaker 1: ball has to travel further in the release, so it's
- 1:48:17Speaker 1: a longer release. We did that with the court. I
- 1:48:20Speaker 1: think it was that with the quarterback last year.
- 1:48:21Speaker 3: I remember his wingspan or armlane. He also Drake has
- 1:48:24Speaker 3: smallish hands.
- 1:48:24Speaker 1: I remember that. Yeah, that honestly, that I thought was
- 1:48:28Speaker 1: going to get more fight than it did. I think
- 1:48:29Speaker 1: at that point everybody just kind of knew he was
- 1:48:31Speaker 1: the pick. Yeah, there's no Kenny Pickett. He was within
- 1:48:33Speaker 1: the range. I bigger hands with Kenny Pickett.
- 1:48:37Speaker 3: So Nick in Boston also brings up another point about
- 1:48:41Speaker 3: the tackles and said, you know, if Campbell fails at
- 1:48:45Speaker 3: left tackle, then he has to move inside the guard,
- 1:48:48Speaker 3: whereas if Membo fails at left tackle, you can flip
- 1:48:51Speaker 3: him back to right. So at least you're still getting
- 1:48:53Speaker 3: a tackle. I think there's some truth to that. Like,
- 1:48:55Speaker 3: that's probably the best Membo argument there is, is that
- 1:48:59Speaker 3: Membu's a tackle.
- 1:49:00Speaker 1: I'm also a good player.
- 1:49:01Speaker 3: But yeah, yeah, but like besides, you know, bear to Campbell, Okay, yeah,
- 1:49:05Speaker 3: he Membu's a tackle. I don't know which side he's
- 1:49:08Speaker 3: a tackle on, but he's a tackle, whereas Campbell, we're
- 1:49:11Speaker 3: not one hundred percent sure that he's a full time tackle.
- 1:49:13Speaker 1: He's not a right I'm not moving Campbell to right tackle. No, no, no,
- 1:49:16Speaker 1: it's not not No, I'm agreeing with you. I'm saying, like.
- 1:49:18Speaker 3: That's he's either he's either a left tackle or a
- 1:49:20Speaker 3: left guard. Yeah, he's one of those two things, whereas
- 1:49:23Speaker 3: Membu is either a right tackle or a left tackle right,
- 1:49:26Speaker 3: and so at least he's a tackle. I think that's
- 1:49:28Speaker 3: the best Membo argument.
- 1:49:30Speaker 1: Yep, I would agree.
- 1:49:31Speaker 3: Now that being said, you did just sign Morgan Moses
- 1:49:34Speaker 3: for three years. He's probably not going to play here
- 1:49:36Speaker 3: for three years at thirty four years old. It's probably
- 1:49:38Speaker 3: gonna be one or two. But is it the worst
- 1:49:41Speaker 3: case in the world. If Membu is the right tackle
- 1:49:44Speaker 3: next year, maybe more move on from Morgan Mogus Moses
- 1:49:47Speaker 3: a little bit quicker, I guess not. But you're still
- 1:49:49Speaker 3: not filling the left tackle hole right, so you're still.
- 1:49:52Speaker 1: It's also if Campbell doesn't work out. If you find
- 1:49:54Speaker 1: out early that Campbell's not gonna work out at left tackle,
- 1:49:56Speaker 1: he's going to be your starting left guard this year. Yeah,
- 1:49:58Speaker 1: if you find out Membu's not gonna work out at
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: left tackle, so jac lath is your fourth round pick,
- 1:50:04Speaker 1: not gonna play, or you're just gonna have a bad
- 1:50:05Speaker 1: left tackle all year, fourth round pick, fourth overall pick,
- 1:50:08Speaker 1: not gonna play.
- 1:50:09Speaker 3: Yeah, No, I mean that's it's jac Latham, right. Jacon
- 1:50:13Speaker 3: Latham played left tackle last year. Didn't look great.
- 1:50:16Speaker 1: Well, I hope they don't force it. I would hope that,
- 1:50:18Speaker 1: you know, protecting Drake, they cut their losses and don't
- 1:50:21Speaker 1: put an incapable player out there.
- 1:50:24Speaker 3: Yeah, but so member, it would ride the bench like
- 1:50:26Speaker 3: Morgan most is.
- 1:50:27Speaker 1: Gonna start, That's what I'm saying. Yeah, so you either
- 1:50:30Speaker 1: have to play a bad left tackle or your fourth
- 1:50:34Speaker 1: overall pick doesn't play right. I don't know that I
- 1:50:38Speaker 1: think those are a great outcome.
- 1:50:39Speaker 3: It's not a great outcome. I would say that most
- 1:50:41Speaker 3: teams have to play the bad left.
- 1:50:42Speaker 1: Tackle and hope it gets better for seventeen games. You
- 1:50:46Speaker 1: just well you you can't have the fourth overall picks
- 1:50:48Speaker 1: and on the bench all year. Maybe not the franchise
- 1:50:50Speaker 1: quarterback running for his life.
- 1:50:52Speaker 3: Okay, but he's gonna he's gonna run for his life
- 1:50:54Speaker 3: if it's Venderian Lowe is just as much as he's
- 1:50:55Speaker 3: gonna somebody else.
- 1:50:58Speaker 1: I mean, is there gonna be fair?
- 1:51:02Speaker 3: All right, let's take this last call and there's a
- 1:51:04Speaker 3: couple more emails we can get to. What's up, sal
- 1:51:06Speaker 3: How are we doing?
- 1:51:09Speaker 1: Hey?
- 1:51:09Speaker 3: Guys, how are you good?
- 1:51:13Speaker 5: I'll be quick. I mean, this team uh needs offensive tackles.
- 1:51:17Speaker 5: I mean I cannot. I'm a season ticket holder. I
- 1:51:20Speaker 5: do not want to see Drake end up on his
- 1:51:22Speaker 5: back any more. Than he needs to be. But I
- 1:51:25Speaker 5: think with McDaniel's step, ball get out of his hands
- 1:51:27Speaker 5: a lot quicker. I thought my hope would be that
- 1:51:31Speaker 5: they can move from the fourth position, assuming that Campbell's
- 1:51:34Speaker 5: are is their only option there. I'm not crazy about
- 1:51:37Speaker 5: picking him. I would prefer that they move with a candidate.
- 1:51:40Speaker 5: If they cannot move, I would take Membo. I would
- 1:51:42Speaker 5: do whatever I could to get Josh Simmons and send
- 1:51:44Speaker 5: him for a year, for what over time it takes
- 1:51:46Speaker 5: to get him health healthy, and then eventually Memblee can
- 1:51:49Speaker 5: be the right tackle and Simmons could be her left tackle.
- 1:51:54Speaker 5: You know the rush about getting receivers, I'm not. I'm
- 1:51:56Speaker 5: not keen on receivers in the first round. Some of
- 1:51:58Speaker 5: the best receivers we have all later picked, you know,
- 1:52:01Speaker 5: Metcalf and AJ Brown and et cetera. I'll take care
- 1:52:05Speaker 5: of you.
- 1:52:05Speaker 1: I'll listen to you guys off the years.
- 1:52:07Speaker 3: So thanks for the call. Yeah, I think that sounds
- 1:52:11Speaker 3: not in the minority when it comes to just throw
- 1:52:13Speaker 3: as many things that tackled A Yeah.
- 1:52:15Speaker 1: Problem, they can't have a first round pick that doesn't play.
- 1:52:18Speaker 1: I'm due on that. I've honestly come around more on
- 1:52:21Speaker 1: Simmons than I was before. I haven't seen the medical
- 1:52:24Speaker 1: That's the big worry for me. It's the medicals. Yeah,
- 1:52:26Speaker 1: talented player, but a lot of people I trust don't
- 1:52:30Speaker 1: seem bothered by it. But if the plan is all right,
- 1:52:33Speaker 1: we're in draft men but play at left tackle, and
- 1:52:35Speaker 1: then we're also gonna draft Josh Simmons and playment left
- 1:52:37Speaker 1: tackle next year, well and draft somebody else who helps
- 1:52:40Speaker 1: the football team instead of Simmons, and then just draft
- 1:52:42Speaker 1: another tackle next year. If you're drafting Josh Simmons, if
- 1:52:46Speaker 1: you're drafting Josh Simmons with the belief he's gonna play
- 1:52:48Speaker 1: this year, I'm on board. I don't love it. You
- 1:52:53Speaker 1: still need to add another left tackle because you don't
- 1:52:56Speaker 1: know when he's gonna be ready and how he'll look.
- 1:52:58Speaker 1: It's a significant injury. But like if if Josh, if
- 1:53:01Speaker 1: the doctors tell you, yeah, he'll be back this year, fine,
- 1:53:05Speaker 1: If Josh Simmons isn't going to be back until twenty
- 1:53:08Speaker 1: twenty six, but your logic is just, well, we need tackles,
- 1:53:12Speaker 1: so we'll take him now, we'll have him later, get
- 1:53:13Speaker 1: another player that helps you now, and then just take
- 1:53:16Speaker 1: a tackle next year. Yeah. Yeah, so that's that's what
- 1:53:19Speaker 1: They're just not in a great position to be red shirting, right.
- 1:53:22Speaker 1: I just I don't want them to red shirt a
- 1:53:24Speaker 1: first round pick.
- 1:53:25Speaker 3: Yeah, it's just not in that spot. And look, just
- 1:53:28Speaker 3: based off of the film, and it was five games,
- 1:53:30Speaker 3: and I watched a little bit of twenty twenty three,
- 1:53:31Speaker 3: but he's worse than twenty twenty three, you know, based
- 1:53:34Speaker 3: off the five games he played in twenty four, I'd
- 1:53:36Speaker 3: have Josh Simmons is the third best tackle in the draft, right, Yeah, Campbell, Membo,
- 1:53:40Speaker 3: Josh Simmons. But there's a very small sample size. Yeah,
- 1:53:44Speaker 3: he's coming off a major injury. That is not an
- 1:53:46Speaker 3: easy injury to bounce back fro him with the torn
- 1:53:48Speaker 3: pateelo attendant. And not only is the sample size small,
- 1:53:51Speaker 3: it's against bad competition. So he dominated bad competition for
- 1:53:56Speaker 3: five games and then got hurt twenty snaps into the
- 1:53:58Speaker 3: game against Oregon. So A, I don't feel great about
- 1:54:02Speaker 3: red shirting and tackle, But B I also don't feel
- 1:54:05Speaker 3: great about betting a first round pick on five games
- 1:54:08Speaker 3: against Michigan State and Iowa.
- 1:54:09Speaker 1: We're talking about the risk that comes with Campbell and
- 1:54:12Speaker 1: his builds in Membu in switching sides, Simmons is bigger
- 1:54:17Speaker 1: risk than either of them, and I don't necessarily think
- 1:54:20Speaker 1: he's not a first round pick. I just think for
- 1:54:22Speaker 1: the position the Patriots are in, if you're if you're
- 1:54:24Speaker 1: worried about Campbell in Membo because you want to mitigate risk,
- 1:54:29Speaker 1: well then pivoting that Josh Simmons is the answer. There's
- 1:54:32Speaker 1: still risk there too. Now you got to go to
- 1:54:34Speaker 1: Connolly Nursery. Let another team take the risk with Simmons.
- 1:54:37Speaker 1: I don't like the Niners at eleven make all the
- 1:54:40Speaker 1: sense of Niners. Chiefs like teams Niners specifically because he
- 1:54:44Speaker 1: can sit behind Trent Williams with each well Chiefs the.
- 1:54:48Speaker 3: Kid from the Niners, Jen Jalen Moore. Right, Oh yeah,
- 1:54:50Speaker 3: so they have him on a two year cond, Like
- 1:54:52Speaker 3: it makes a lot of sense for contenders like teams
- 1:54:55Speaker 3: like that that I can afford. You know, I don't know,
- 1:54:57Speaker 3: for example, you know, I think Simmons is probably left tackle,
- 1:55:00Speaker 3: but he could probably play either side, like in Philly.
- 1:55:03Speaker 3: You know, how much longer is Lane Johnson going to
- 1:55:05Speaker 3: play for?
- 1:55:05Speaker 1: Yeah?
- 1:55:06Speaker 3: Right, Like and if Philly takes you know, kind of
- 1:55:09Speaker 3: like what the Patriots did with Matt Lytton Nate Solder,
- 1:55:11Speaker 3: like they take Josh Simmons and they let him recuperate
- 1:55:15Speaker 3: and whatever, they have one more great year out Elane Johnson.
- 1:55:17Speaker 3: Lane Johnson's been talking about retirement on and off, like
- 1:55:20Speaker 3: maybe that's the route that they go. So I'm with
- 1:55:22Speaker 3: you with Josh Simmons. If he had put together, if
- 1:55:25Speaker 3: he was healthy and he put together an entire season
- 1:55:27Speaker 3: and he was Ohio State's left tackle through the National
- 1:55:30Speaker 3: Championship game and played at the level that he played at,
- 1:55:32Speaker 3: I think we would be talking about him at four
- 1:55:34Speaker 3: overall but.
- 1:55:34Speaker 1: He but he didn't, So you can't. He didn't. We
- 1:55:37Speaker 1: don't live in the expected world, live in reality.
- 1:55:40Speaker 3: One last thing here. I know you only have a
- 1:55:41Speaker 3: couple more minutes, but.
- 1:55:42Speaker 1: Well we have another thing we have to get to
- 1:55:44Speaker 1: too after the emails real quick.
- 1:55:45Speaker 3: Okay, this can wait till next show, So let's let's
- 1:55:49Speaker 3: get to your last thing.
- 1:55:50Speaker 1: So I kind of gave everybody a little teaser after
- 1:55:52Speaker 1: the show last week because we were talking about running
- 1:55:54Speaker 1: back about this.
- 1:55:56Speaker 3: We hyped this up a lot and it's not. It's
- 1:55:58Speaker 3: not gonna live love.
- 1:56:00Speaker 1: We got off the air and we were still talking
- 1:56:02Speaker 1: about because we ended the show last week talking about
- 1:56:03Speaker 1: the running backs, and we Evan kind of sarcastically gave
- 1:56:09Speaker 1: a comp for Cam Scattabo that I actually think is
- 1:56:13Speaker 1: an unbelievable comp and it's truly Ever meant it kind
- 1:56:18Speaker 1: of as a slight and I think it's not just
- 1:56:20Speaker 1: it's complimentary. So and I gave you the option either
- 1:56:23Speaker 1: tweeted out or explained it on the show.
- 1:56:25Speaker 3: Yeah, so I wanted to explain it on the show
- 1:56:27Speaker 3: because obviously this player played a different position, so it
- 1:56:29Speaker 3: doesn't like make total sense, right, But I was trying
- 1:56:32Speaker 3: to think of a awesome college player that just is
- 1:56:38Speaker 3: an awesome college player but not a great pro right like,
- 1:56:41Speaker 3: and like just one of those guys that just dominated
- 1:56:43Speaker 3: college football. And there's plenty of them, right, There's plenty
- 1:56:46Speaker 3: of other examples besides this guy, but the guy that
- 1:56:48Speaker 3: I came Wait, so you were talking about the running
- 1:56:50Speaker 3: backs as a whole. You said, what are the odds
- 1:56:52Speaker 3: one of these running backs is this player? And again
- 1:56:56Speaker 3: you meant it in terms of career arc but Scott
- 1:57:00Speaker 3: was Scatterbo.
- 1:57:00Speaker 1: Or somebody else? You said, what are the odds scatter
- 1:57:02Speaker 1: Bow or was it just Scatterbo. I thought, there's somebody else,
- 1:57:06Speaker 1: there is this player who is Tim Tebow, right, So
- 1:57:10Speaker 1: I took that to mean, well, if Tim Tebow had
- 1:57:14Speaker 1: actually moved her running back like he should have, that
- 1:57:17Speaker 1: is kind of how runs the football. I know it's not,
- 1:57:21Speaker 1: but it's kind of perfect between bigger Tbo's bigger, but
- 1:57:26Speaker 1: the running style, the mentality, right, the whole Tim Tebow
- 1:57:31Speaker 1: fifteen minutes for the rest of our lives. Camp Scatabo
- 1:57:34Speaker 1: throwing up on the sideline and the Peach Bowl and
- 1:57:36Speaker 1: the Cotton Bowl or whatever it was like the it
- 1:57:40Speaker 1: kind of works. If Tim Tebow had actually played running back, Yeah,
- 1:57:45Speaker 1: I think he'd kind of be like a taller Cam
- 1:57:47Speaker 1: Scatabo stylistically, I do think. And Cam Scattabo, by the way,
- 1:57:51Speaker 1: did play some quarterback at Sacramento State, so he is
- 1:57:54Speaker 1: a wildcat threat. So I actually think in the Peach Bowl,
- 1:57:58Speaker 1: I think it's a really you it in a very
- 1:58:01Speaker 1: different way the way I chose to take it. It's
- 1:58:03Speaker 1: actually kind of spot on.
- 1:58:05Speaker 3: So I meant it in terms of career arc right, Yeah,
- 1:58:08Speaker 3: Tim Tebow one of the best college football players of
- 1:58:10Speaker 3: all time, but was not NFL caliber as a quarterback,
- 1:58:15Speaker 3: especially right just wasn't a good NFL player. And my
- 1:58:18Speaker 3: fear with a guy like Scatabow is that the Peach
- 1:58:21Speaker 3: Bowl against Texas, which is maybe the single best tape
- 1:58:25Speaker 3: of any player in this draft. By the way, I
- 1:58:28Speaker 3: mean that he threw, he had like three hundred yards
- 1:58:30Speaker 3: of offense, like he literally like they were down multiple
- 1:58:33Speaker 3: touchdowns in the second half, and this guy put the team.
- 1:58:36Speaker 1: On at Travis Hunter, I would say, there but.
- 1:58:42Speaker 3: A rushing, receiving, and passing touchdown all in the same game.
- 1:58:47Speaker 3: Like he was unbelievable. But is there a very good
- 1:58:50Speaker 3: chance that the Peach Bowl against Texas is Cam Scattaboy's
- 1:58:53Speaker 3: best football game he ever plays, and it's all downhill
- 1:58:56Speaker 3: from here. Yeah, Like that's definitely a possibility. And I
- 1:59:00Speaker 3: look at him, I look at his playing style. I
- 1:59:02Speaker 3: look at you know, I don't think he's a great athlete.
- 1:59:04Speaker 3: Like I think he's a kind of an effort player.
- 1:59:07Speaker 3: I think he's a great athlete, not fast, because he
- 1:59:11Speaker 3: great contact balance, low center of gravity bowling ball to
- 1:59:16Speaker 3: catch the ball.
- 1:59:16Speaker 1: I wouldn't say he's not athletic. He's just there's a difference.
- 1:59:19Speaker 1: So he's not fast he's also like his ability to cut,
- 1:59:21Speaker 1: like he just got a good spin move, and also
- 1:59:25Speaker 1: who drafted Tim Tebow? Josh McDaniel's right, but that's all
- 1:59:29Speaker 1: I was. I thought it was how he meant it.
- 1:59:33Speaker 3: I don't care how you like obviously for example like that,
- 1:59:39Speaker 3: you know, like Johnny Manzil flamed out for other reasons,
- 1:59:42Speaker 3: probably along with the football, but like he also wasn't
- 1:59:45Speaker 3: that good at football.
- 1:59:45Speaker 1: I mean last year it kind of like Sam Donald
- 1:59:49Speaker 1: was gonna be that guy. Sam Donald got drafted off
- 1:59:51Speaker 1: for that Rose Bowl game, Yeah, and would not have
- 1:59:53Speaker 1: gone that high without that Rose Bull Warwick.
- 1:59:57Speaker 3: There was the receiver war Yeah something.
- 2:00:00Speaker 1: We're we're going way back back, like yeah.
- 2:00:03Speaker 3: That's like always like we're young okay, ye spoiler. Honestly,
- 2:00:06Speaker 3: that's always like the Olds like that they that's.
- 2:00:09Speaker 1: Their guy, like that other one. And he had a
- 2:00:11Speaker 1: decent NFL career, but I always felt had like one
- 2:00:14Speaker 1: play that he made that elevated him. David Clowney, Yeah,
- 2:00:19Speaker 1: like he had everybody. Peter work is the guy. He
- 2:00:24Speaker 1: had an unbelievable play. Yeah, and it's a great play.
- 2:00:28Speaker 1: If people put a little too much on that one
- 2:00:30Speaker 1: play when they talked about Ja David Clowney as like
- 2:00:33Speaker 1: he was a fine pro. Yeah. It was his second
- 2:00:36Speaker 1: overall pick, first, second overall pick, first overall pick. First
- 2:00:39Speaker 1: he was. That was the Reggie Bush. Yeah, yeah, Reggie Bush.
- 2:00:42Speaker 1: Or was that Mario Williams.
- 2:00:43Speaker 3: That was Mario Williams. But Jadavin Clowney went number one overall.
- 2:00:46Speaker 1: Yeah, and it's like he was fine. It was a
- 2:00:48Speaker 1: first overall pick. Yeah.
- 2:00:50Speaker 3: So yeah, Peter Work is like the the one I
- 2:00:52Speaker 3: think from like the nineties, like if you want to
- 2:00:54Speaker 3: go that direction.
- 2:00:55Speaker 1: State right, Yeah, Yeah, that is who I was.
- 2:00:57Speaker 3: That was kind of what I was getting at, right,
- 2:00:58Speaker 3: like just a really awesome college player that just doesn't
- 2:01:01Speaker 3: live up to it in the NFL.
- 2:01:02Speaker 1: And I worry about that a little bit. With Scataboo,
- 2:01:05Speaker 1: I do all right. Fournette, sure, leon for Nett was
- 2:01:08Speaker 1: a good pro. It took him a while, yeah, to
- 2:01:10Speaker 1: get at Jacksonville.
- 2:01:11Speaker 3: It might have been more jackson Yeah, Leonard Fournette was
- 2:01:13Speaker 3: a decent pro. I don't confidence. I don't have very
- 2:01:17Speaker 3: much confidence in some of these guys, but I have confidence.
