Luna: Yeah, booking classes, canceling, rescheduling... but we never actually asked for help when we're lost! Lucas: Exactly. Today we learn how to ask for help at the gym. In German, of course. Luna: Perfect. Because I'm always the one wandering around looking for a machine. Lucas: So the first phrase is very simple: Können Sie mir helfen? — 'Can you help me?' Say it with me: Können Sie mir helfen? Luna: Können Sie mir helfen? Lucas: Great. Now, if you want to ask how to use a specific machine, you say: Wie benutzt man dieses Gerät? — 'How do you use this machine?' Luna: Wie benutzt man dieses Gerät? That's a mouthful. Lucas: Let's break it down: Wie — how, benutzt man — does one use, dieses Gerät — this machine. Luna: Wie benutzt man dieses Gerät? Lucas: Another useful one: Ich brauche Hilfe. — 'I need help.' Luna: Ich brauche Hilfe. That's straightforward. Lucas: And if you want to be polite before asking, you can say: Kann ich mal fragen? — 'Can I ask something?' Luna: Kann ich mal fragen? I like that. It's like a soft opener. Lucas: Exactly. And after someone helps you, you say: Danke für die Hilfe. — 'Thanks for the help.' Luna: Danke für die Hilfe. That's simple enough. Lucas: Now let's put them in a mini scene. Imagine you're at the gym and you see a machine you've never used. You walk up to a trainer and say: Können Sie mir helfen? Luna: Können Sie mir helfen? Lucas: The trainer says: Ja, natürlich. Was kann ich für Sie tun? Luna: Then I say: Wie benutzt man dieses Gerät? Lucas: Perfect.
