- 1:02Speaker 3: Oh? My god?
- 1:03Speaker 4: Yeah, the way we just run through those things. Well,
- 1:07Speaker 4: take a look, good, Leggy, it looks like he could.
- 1:11Speaker 5: Well thank you Kevin for the donuts.
- 1:14Speaker 3: As we head out to the Ramas Law hotline car
- 1:15Speaker 3: accent you knew Ramas Law medical doctor and at turning
- 1:18Speaker 3: Ramas Law dot Com. Kevin if the the Broncos go
- 1:21Speaker 3: to that media room and put down a back. Sorry, sorry, Jeff,
- 1:25Speaker 3: We're just talking to Kevin.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Jeff.
- 1:27Speaker 3: If the Broncos put out some donuts in that media room,
- 1:30Speaker 3: what does it just look like a bunch of vultures?
- 1:33Speaker 4: What is? It?
- 1:34Speaker 1: Depends on the time of day. You know, you get
- 1:36Speaker 1: it early. You know you're gonna get your You're gonna
- 1:39Speaker 1: get your choice.
- 1:39Speaker 2: It's like Pizza Friday. Do they still do pizza Fridays now?
- 1:44Speaker 1: Only only like for special special times. They don't. They
- 1:48Speaker 1: don't do a bunch of that stuff anymore, but uh,
- 1:54Speaker 1: certain times a day it's pretty much carnage.
- 1:56Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:56Speaker 4: Have you ever seen, you know, one of those documentaries
- 1:59Speaker 4: from Africa and you got like a water buffalo carcass
- 2:03Speaker 4: out there.
- 2:03Speaker 2: And everybody's get a piece of it. That That that's
- 2:07Speaker 2: media members on a box of donuts, No doubt about it.
- 2:10Speaker 5: I'll be out there today, Jeffrey for OTAs, I guess
- 2:14Speaker 5: the topic at hand. Every OTAs who is not there
- 2:17Speaker 5: and it always seems to steal the narrative. Do we
- 2:20Speaker 5: know of any big name players that won't be at practice?
- 2:24Speaker 1: The guy have not heard of people who won't be
- 2:27Speaker 1: participating other than recovering from injuries. So you know, we'll
- 2:32Speaker 1: see when we get out there. But I don't think
- 2:35Speaker 1: they've had the I'm staying away because I'm mad thing.
- 2:39Speaker 1: But we'll see. You know, there's always a surprise because
- 2:42Speaker 1: the thing about this time of year is maybe a
- 2:46Speaker 1: guy isn't there today, but he took part in the
- 2:48Speaker 1: other three days of the week. You don't have to
- 2:51Speaker 1: come for all four and even coaches aren't always you know,
- 2:57Speaker 1: you know nuts if a guy isn't there for all
- 2:59Speaker 1: four days, like a guy will come for three or
- 3:02Speaker 1: two or have something going with his family or an
- 3:05Speaker 1: appearance or something, and they and they bailed. So you know,
- 3:09Speaker 1: today is the day we get But they've had four
- 3:12Speaker 1: days of work this week.
- 3:15Speaker 2: Well, who would be on that list?
- 3:17Speaker 5: Not that they're mad, but who's on that list of Okay,
- 3:20Speaker 5: it's time to start negotiating getting some leverage financially.
- 3:23Speaker 2: Who are some of those players?
- 3:25Speaker 1: Well, last year it was Sutton, Yeah, you know who
- 3:27Speaker 1: stayed away this year the only guy really and two
- 3:31Speaker 1: guys in that category are you know, Zach Allens made
- 3:34Speaker 1: his preference pretty clear that he wants a new deal
- 3:37Speaker 1: and Courtland again is you know, they didn't add any
- 3:41Speaker 1: new money to Courtland's deal last year at all. They
- 3:45Speaker 1: just turned base salary into signing bonus. He didn't get
- 3:48Speaker 1: a raise, he didn't get more guaranteed money, he didn't
- 3:51Speaker 1: get more of anything other than some incentive bonuses he earned.
- 3:56Speaker 1: So they didn't add new money last year. Courtland did
- 3:59Speaker 1: him a favor by coming back and coming to the
- 4:01Speaker 1: mini camp. So I really think in terms of the
- 4:05Speaker 1: locker room and other things, they they should probably get
- 4:11Speaker 1: something done with Courtland that you know, people can see
- 4:14Speaker 1: and that is a real, a real deal.
- 4:17Speaker 5: What about John Franklin Myers, who's active on social media
- 4:20Speaker 5: saying he wants some money.
- 4:22Speaker 1: That's that's another guy in that category. And again, you know,
- 4:26Speaker 1: like I say, these are, uh, these are far more
- 4:30Speaker 1: voluntary than they've been in past year. I mean, guys
- 4:33Speaker 1: are really empowered now to to you know, I think
- 4:36Speaker 1: it's more accepted league wide. A guy might not be
- 4:40Speaker 1: there for every single OTA day, you know, like in
- 4:44Speaker 1: the past. So again, we we get the bare minimum
- 4:47Speaker 1: here in terms of the media rules. We get one
- 4:50Speaker 1: OTA session a week that we can see, and you know,
- 4:55Speaker 1: a guy could have participated in all of the other
- 4:57Speaker 1: ones and not be here today. So you know, again,
- 5:00Speaker 1: until you see it with your own eyes, that's my
- 5:03Speaker 1: that's always my test.
- 5:04Speaker 3: It's one thing that I was actually curious about is
- 5:06Speaker 3: we're talking about guys who want more money. You know,
- 5:09Speaker 3: the Broncos draft Johnny Baron and it sounds like he's
- 5:11Speaker 3: probably going to be your nickel guy to start the year.
- 5:15Speaker 3: But you had somebody there that was on an undrafted
- 5:18Speaker 3: free agent rookie contract that seemed to outplay at least
- 5:21Speaker 3: that in Jakwan McMillan.
- 5:22Speaker 5: What happens with him?
- 5:25Speaker 1: I think Baron's gonna line up a lot of places, Brett.
- 5:27Speaker 1: I mean, I don't think you can just classify him
- 5:31Speaker 1: as a nickel on every down. I think he's gonna be.
- 5:35Speaker 1: I think he's gonna be multiple places in the defense.
- 5:38Speaker 1: At least that was their plan, you know, early on here,
- 5:42Speaker 1: and he's already shown he can he can handle it.
- 5:46Speaker 1: I mean though the rookie Mini camp. You know, I
- 5:50Speaker 1: saw him line up at three different places in Rookie
- 5:52Speaker 1: Mini Camp, which means you're you're a pretty smart guy.
- 5:56Speaker 1: If they give you the install the same day and
- 6:00Speaker 1: you can line up successfully at different spots the same day,
- 6:04Speaker 1: you're a pretty sharp guy. So you know, I think
- 6:07Speaker 1: McMillan will play a snap count may not be equal
- 6:11Speaker 1: to what it was, but because Baron's in the mix,
- 6:14Speaker 1: you know, yeah, we don't know officially until we see
- 6:17Speaker 1: him play a game, but you know, he can line
- 6:19Speaker 1: up on the outside and be one of their top
- 6:23Speaker 1: two corners. He can be their best nickel, and he
- 6:27Speaker 1: could be a dime linebacker. He could line up at
- 6:30Speaker 1: safety and be one of their top three safeties right now.
- 6:34Speaker 1: So no matter where you put him, he's gonna be. Okay.
- 6:37Speaker 3: I heard somebody compare him to Brian Branch. Is that
- 6:41Speaker 3: too much of a comparison? Is it close?
- 6:44Speaker 1: It's that type of player, you know, I don't think
- 6:47Speaker 1: Branch had Baron's explosiveness in terms of playing on the outside.
- 6:53Speaker 1: Branch can play on the outside, but he was the
- 6:56Speaker 1: best nickel corner in that draft and did play the
- 7:00Speaker 1: same position in college, the star that quote unquote star position.
- 7:06Speaker 1: You know, Nick Saban really made it a thing, but
- 7:10Speaker 1: Nick Nick used it in Branch was his star, you know,
- 7:14Speaker 1: his last couple of years at Alabama. So they did
- 7:18Speaker 1: play the same college position. But I think Baron has
- 7:21Speaker 1: more explosiveness and top end speed.
- 7:25Speaker 4: Overall, your latest article focused on something that I never
- 7:30Speaker 4: even thought of, which is why I love to read
- 7:33Speaker 4: your stuff. When you look at the Broncos draft, Jeff
- 7:35Speaker 4: and all the guys who are non transfers in college
- 7:38Speaker 4: that they they played at their schools, and they played
- 7:40Speaker 4: a lot at their schools, got me to thinking down
- 7:44Speaker 4: the road. With the way the transfer portal is going
- 7:47Speaker 4: and players getting paid big money to move because they're
- 7:50Speaker 4: very good players, will Sean Payton and company be able
- 7:53Speaker 4: to keep up this trend of they want guys who
- 7:56Speaker 4: have stability and so on when there's so much talent
- 7:59Speaker 4: out there moving all over the place right now.
- 8:02Speaker 1: Yeah, that's I mean, that's why it intrigued me when
- 8:04Speaker 1: it you know, other than the seventh rounder who was
- 8:07Speaker 1: a basketball player, right, all of their draft picks, the
- 8:11Speaker 1: other six played at least forty one games at another
- 8:15Speaker 1: school at one school, and I'm not sure any other
- 8:19Speaker 1: team had that in their draft class.
- 8:21Speaker 4: And I love how he said it wasn't He said
- 8:24Speaker 4: it wasn't by accident, right, I mean that it's not
- 8:26Speaker 4: the only thing, but it's something that they consider, which
- 8:29Speaker 4: I again, Jeff, I never even thought of that before.
- 8:32Speaker 2: And Jeff.
- 8:32Speaker 5: It's also a reason a lot of those guys they
- 8:34Speaker 5: pick our captains of their teams.
- 8:36Speaker 1: Right. No, and you know, Harvey did transfer, but he
- 8:39Speaker 1: transferred after never playing a game at Virginia, So that's
- 8:43Speaker 1: that's a different sort of thing than a guy going
- 8:47Speaker 1: three times.
- 8:48Speaker 4: You know.
- 8:48Speaker 1: Now, I think the portal is a fact of college
- 8:51Speaker 1: life until you know, whatever legislation's coming happens. But I
- 8:59Speaker 1: think they're is data out there to show that unless
- 9:02Speaker 1: you're you were an elite player, that transfers had an
- 9:08Speaker 1: impact on your draft status. And you know, and and
- 9:12Speaker 1: I think I think the league is far more accepting
- 9:15Speaker 1: about it than they used to be because they have to.
- 9:18Speaker 1: But the I was curious if the Broncos had made
- 9:21Speaker 1: a concerted effort to look at that, and they did.
- 9:26Speaker 1: He said they did. It was a it was a
- 9:28Speaker 1: part of the equation because there's some sentiment that the
- 9:33Speaker 1: portal makes it easy for a guy just to be
- 9:37Speaker 1: angry or I'm upset I didn't get to play, or
- 9:42Speaker 1: maybe a quitter mentality in the Week seven, Yeah, they
- 9:44Speaker 1: you know, you didn't fight through adversity, which is a
- 9:47Speaker 1: big part of being a pro football player is dealing
- 9:51Speaker 1: with the crap that comes at you, you know, week
- 9:54Speaker 1: to week. Uh So, I think that was some of it.
- 9:57Speaker 1: They wanted guys who hung in at some place and
- 10:01Speaker 1: invested themselves in the place because I think draft built
- 10:06Speaker 1: teams are better over the long haul, because the players
- 10:11Speaker 1: are invested in the team that picked them. I think
- 10:16Speaker 1: there is something to that in football still to this day.
- 10:20Speaker 1: And the Eagles are largely a draft built team. The
- 10:23Speaker 1: Chiefs are largely a draft built team. We've seen largely
- 10:27Speaker 1: draft built teams win the most. Yeah, free agency gives
- 10:32Speaker 1: you that one guy that you know pushes you from
- 10:35Speaker 1: eleven wins to thirteen. But to get in the mix,
- 10:40Speaker 1: you've got to be a draft built team. And I
- 10:42Speaker 1: think those guys are invested, and I think they think
- 10:46Speaker 1: the Broncos thought that players like this are more invested
- 10:50Speaker 1: in what you're doing.
- 10:52Speaker 3: Jeff Lego this ESPN dot Com. One thing we're talking
- 10:55Speaker 3: about is the wide receiver room. So they have three
- 10:58Speaker 3: guys that feel like they're built of the same in
- 11:01Speaker 3: Sutton Vle and Pat Bryant who they just drafted. And
- 11:05Speaker 3: they have two guys in Troy Franklin and Marvin Mims
- 11:07Speaker 3: that bring a little different dynamic.
- 11:09Speaker 2: Was curious to see if they're.
- 11:10Speaker 3: Going to add a veteran in the offseason, and they didn't.
- 11:12Speaker 3: What do you think that room looks like when the
- 11:14Speaker 3: season rolls around, knowing you haven't seen much of Pat
- 11:17Speaker 3: Bryant yet, I.
- 11:18Speaker 1: Think it looks like that. But I think those five
- 11:21Speaker 1: guys are your starting point, and if somebody can force
- 11:26Speaker 1: them to keep six or something, maybe that happens. But
- 11:31Speaker 1: it's no accident. That's that's that's how Sean Payton wants
- 11:35Speaker 1: receivers to look six two six three, two hundred ten pounds,
- 11:40Speaker 1: two hundred and eight pounds. That's that's what he wants.
- 11:45Speaker 1: I don't think it's any accident. He you know, it
- 11:48Speaker 1: was a you know, an eyebrow raising comparison, but you
- 11:53Speaker 1: know he went right to Pat Bryant reminds me in
- 11:56Speaker 1: his release coming off the line of scrimmage, Michael Thomas.
- 12:01Speaker 1: I mean, that's that's the that's his vision of a
- 12:04Speaker 1: wide receiver. He thinks, and has said many times he
- 12:08Speaker 1: thinks smaller receivers have a much more difficult time in
- 12:12Speaker 1: the league, and especially in his offense. You know, there's
- 12:15Speaker 1: a lot of stuff coming across the field uh, short
- 12:18Speaker 1: intermediate stuff. I mean, there's there's a lot of things
- 12:22Speaker 1: in his offense where the big guys have to win
- 12:25Speaker 1: contested catches and and that's what he wants. He wants
- 12:29Speaker 1: he wants guys that can win those for his quarterback.
- 12:32Speaker 2: Then why, why the why is Marvin Mins on his
- 12:36Speaker 2: team just to return stuff?
- 12:39Speaker 1: There's an exception to everything. The exception is he's a
- 12:43Speaker 1: damn good player and he needs more snaps.
- 12:45Speaker 4: And we've we've I was talking about this earlier, Jeff,
- 12:48Speaker 4: that we've I mean for a couple of years ago.
- 12:50Speaker 2: Go, I can't they could get on the field at all, right,
- 12:52Speaker 2: and then and then they.
- 12:53Speaker 1: Started doing Yeah, when they did, what happened, he was
- 12:58Speaker 1: almost w R one down the stretch. I mean, it's
- 13:02Speaker 1: it's one of the great mysteries of life. And you know,
- 13:06Speaker 1: I still don't have a great explanation of why he
- 13:10Speaker 1: didn't get more snaps in the first half of the season,
- 13:12Speaker 1: because you got to practice, and he's clearly one of
- 13:16Speaker 1: the two best receivers on the field. And if you're
- 13:20Speaker 1: good enough with the ball in your hands to be
- 13:22Speaker 1: an All Pro returner twice, I'm pretty sure you should
- 13:25Speaker 1: touch the ball at other points in the game.
- 13:29Speaker 3: Jeff, I saw this little blurb. It was in ESPN,
- 13:32Speaker 3: and I can't remember what the article was or who
- 13:35Speaker 3: wrote it, so my apologies. Maybe it was you, who knows,
- 13:38Speaker 3: but it was about dark horse super Bowl contending teams,
- 13:42Speaker 3: and the reasoning for it was teams that had a
- 13:45Speaker 3: good offensive line and a great defense, and it was
- 13:48Speaker 3: the Broncos and the Vikings in that discussion.
- 13:51Speaker 1: Well, that's the formula every coach in the world. Who's
- 13:55Speaker 1: gonna point that one out? You know, you got those
- 13:57Speaker 1: two things and a quarterback to have a quarterback you
- 14:00Speaker 1: feel good about.
- 14:01Speaker 3: But yeah, no, I but my question was gonna be
- 14:05Speaker 3: what do you make of the offensive line? Because here's
- 14:06Speaker 3: what's funny. It doesn't feel like outside of Quinn Minors,
- 14:09Speaker 3: anybody is like elite, elite level, you know, like Garrett
- 14:12Speaker 3: Bulls is good, Mike McGlinchey is good. They aren't Trent
- 14:15Speaker 3: Williams or Pansa will or anything like that, but they're good.
- 14:18Speaker 2: What do you think of them overall?
- 14:21Speaker 1: Yeah? I think I think in the league, if you
- 14:24Speaker 1: talk to personnel people, Garrett Bowles is like elite one
- 14:28Speaker 1: a type. You know that there's just the very next
- 14:33Speaker 1: layer beneath the you know, the top two or three
- 14:37Speaker 1: because his his footwork, and it's never been probably appreciated
- 14:43Speaker 1: because he had such penalty issues when he started that
- 14:46Speaker 1: that people can't sort of forget some of that. But
- 14:50Speaker 1: even then, his footwork is rare, his athleticism is rare,
- 14:56Speaker 1: and Garrett has you know, you have to give him credit.
- 14:59Speaker 1: He has stayed more healthy than an awful lot of
- 15:02Speaker 1: guys with his snap count and he doesn't even miss practice,
- 15:06Speaker 1: you know, really, so I think he and Minards are
- 15:11Speaker 1: probably your two you know, your anchors in there and
- 15:15Speaker 1: allow you to do some things.
- 15:18Speaker 4: You know.
- 15:18Speaker 1: I think people personnel people have their eye on with Glinchy,
- 15:21Speaker 1: you know, how how will he age through this contract
- 15:24Speaker 1: and how will that look two years from now or whatever.
- 15:27Speaker 1: But I think the issue is they don't really have
- 15:32Speaker 1: a lot of depth. You know, I'm not sure they're
- 15:35Speaker 1: in a position right now. If two of those guys
- 15:38Speaker 1: were hurt in the same week, what kind of adjustments
- 15:42Speaker 1: would you be able to make. And you know, frankly,
- 15:44Speaker 1: that's a that's a difficulty everybody has in the free
- 15:48Speaker 1: agency era. But I think it's it's pretty you know,
- 15:52Speaker 1: I think it would be attention worthy here, and I'm
- 15:56Speaker 1: interested in camp to see how some of those you know,
- 16:00Speaker 1: other guys on the depth chart look. You know, would
- 16:03Speaker 1: they be ready to go right now if they had to?
- 16:06Speaker 1: But you know, Minors is an all pro level guy,
- 16:10Speaker 1: Bulls is close, and everybody else's is, you know, one
- 16:15Speaker 1: of the better guys at their position in the league.
- 16:18Speaker 1: So they they invested a lot. You know, they have
- 16:21Speaker 1: the most expensive line in the league. I believe. Still
- 16:25Speaker 1: they put their money there and they've gotten the results.
- 16:27Speaker 5: Hey, Jeff, the Cardinals and Broncos were playing that preseason
- 16:31Speaker 5: game in Denver that they're going to do joint practices.
- 16:34Speaker 2: Correct here? Is that what they're doing.
- 16:36Speaker 1: I've been told at least one. I don't know if
- 16:40Speaker 1: there will be more than one, but it may be
- 16:41Speaker 1: like Green Bay last year they only came in for
- 16:44Speaker 1: one day and then played. Okay, do we know where
- 16:48Speaker 1: they're gonna have They're gonna have joint practices with San
- 16:50Speaker 1: Francisco before that preseason opener in San Francisco.
- 16:53Speaker 2: Okay too, so they'll be out of town for that.
- 16:55Speaker 5: Okay, Yeah, and I know training camp is still a
- 16:59Speaker 5: ways off. Where are they going to put fans, there's
- 17:02Speaker 5: a construction anywhere there.
- 17:04Speaker 1: Now you look around and you wonder where the where
- 17:07Speaker 1: the spot is that I think to me that there
- 17:11Speaker 1: might be room at the end of the field for
- 17:13Speaker 1: some bleachers. I think it will be limited attendance, uh,
- 17:17Speaker 1: but I think they're going to try very hard to
- 17:19Speaker 1: have some people in there with the bleachers at the
- 17:24Speaker 1: sort of the the south end of the of the fields.
- 17:27Speaker 2: They tore that stuff up quick. Man.
- 17:31Speaker 4: Hey, listen, man, they're they're digging holes fast and they're
- 17:34Speaker 4: putting stuff up fast over there.
- 17:36Speaker 1: Now that the steel is up, the skeleton is up
- 17:38Speaker 1: with the new building, it's now it's just you know,
- 17:41Speaker 1: all the stuff you got to do to to fill
- 17:44Speaker 1: it in. But for fans, camp isn't going to look
- 17:47Speaker 1: normal until the new buildings open and the the old
- 17:51Speaker 1: building has been removed and the and the hill added back.
- 17:56Speaker 1: Because they saved the dirt from the hole. They essentially
- 17:59Speaker 1: bought the lot next door to keep the dirt that
- 18:03Speaker 1: they don't the huge hole out of it, And that's
- 18:05Speaker 1: what they're gonna make that's what they're gonna make the
- 18:08Speaker 1: burn out of in the future.
- 18:10Speaker 2: How do you know all this stuff?
- 18:12Speaker 1: Hey, I check things out. I'm not just out there
