- 0:04Speaker 1: suitable for all audiences. Listener discretion is advised. Welcome to
- 0:11Speaker 1: Patriots Unfiltered. I was born two weeks late. I was
- 0:16Speaker 1: supposed to be born Christmas Day. Not surprised at all
- 0:18Speaker 1: that Eric believes he was supposed to be that I
- 0:23Speaker 1: was about to and I didn't. I showed restraint. Ok,
- 0:27Speaker 1: you're a bigger man than me. What do you want
- 0:28Speaker 1: to tell? You know, he's not who is going to
- 0:33Speaker 1: take over the hosting role When Fred had to be
- 0:36Speaker 1: out for something, I had to find somebody with less
- 0:39Speaker 1: sense of humor than Eric. Oh, oh my god, Melvin
- 0:43Speaker 1: and I had food. Eric grasp to see if I
- 0:49Speaker 1: can do like Andy Hart and call in and have
- 0:51Speaker 1: not recognized Yeah, you knew how to do. It wasn't
- 0:57Speaker 1: his last shot. They're able to make some explosive plays
- 1:01Speaker 1: on you know. As much as everybody wants a deep
- 1:03Speaker 1: threat and getting the ball down the field, I think
- 1:04Speaker 1: that's a big part of what they're probably trying to do.
- 1:07Speaker 1: I mean, like, you know, okay, I guess we'll talk
- 1:10Speaker 1: football through. Sorry, this is Patriots Unfiltered fueled by dunking,
- 1:18Speaker 1: all right, Welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Tuesday here
- 1:22Speaker 1: at Gillette Stadium, and we'll be talking Patriots for the
- 1:25Speaker 1: next two hours. It's Deuce, It's Tamara, It's Paul, it's Fred.
- 1:30Speaker 1: No more Eric. We said goodbye to Eric last week,
- 1:34Speaker 1: so this is the post Eric era. So it begins. Yeah,
- 1:38Speaker 1: a s after skeal tomorrow, you are ready to fill
- 1:42Speaker 1: those shoes. I want to wear different shoes. Wow. Yeah.
- 1:48Speaker 1: Even though Eric was firmly a vegan, he did wear
- 1:53Speaker 1: leather shoes. So wow, I haven't thought that about him. Yeah,
- 1:56Speaker 1: I called him on that. But anyway, as you were
- 2:01Speaker 1: once wearing different shoes, Tom mats in the booth. So
- 2:05Speaker 1: what have we got OTAs yesterday? And we had access?
- 2:09Speaker 1: Sure did side of the side of the hill. Here
- 2:11Speaker 1: we go, everybody. I mean, I first build press conference
- 2:14Speaker 1: since pre COVID, so that was interesting. Of course, twelve
- 2:19Speaker 1: of the questions were all about the offensive coordinator and
- 2:21Speaker 1: who's calm plays. We'll talk about that. We got out
- 2:25Speaker 1: there though, and uh yeah, you know, I think good
- 2:27Speaker 1: chunk of guys there, good um participation. I think definitely
- 2:30Speaker 1: a couple key interesting people missing, But you know, I'm
- 2:33Speaker 1: not too concerned about guys like Jude On or Lawn's guy. Um,
- 2:36Speaker 1: we can get into that as well. But that was
- 2:38Speaker 1: just fun to watch a little little bit football, a
- 2:39Speaker 1: little bit thrown it around. Not nothing too serious, although
- 2:42Speaker 1: you might read some things that make you think it
- 2:44Speaker 1: was very serious. Don't get me started to do, get
- 2:50Speaker 1: you started right. Enjoyed a nice afternoon Elton the sun yesterday.
- 2:54Speaker 1: It was very nice weather yesterday to start that off,
- 2:58Speaker 1: couldn't have been better. Perfect. Wish everyone could have seen
- 3:01Speaker 1: Mike and his chair. He was pre I was, I
- 3:03Speaker 1: have one of those little uld a little full, but
- 3:06Speaker 1: then it doesn't have the legs. It's just kind of
- 3:07Speaker 1: like one of those l being kind of ones. But
- 3:09Speaker 1: I was, you know, a little bit apprehensive because I
- 3:12Speaker 1: thought it might get made fun of carrying it out there.
- 3:14Speaker 1: But he did. But but who's hurting at the GARDI
- 3:18Speaker 1: he puts out a beach towel. He's got the beach towel,
- 3:22Speaker 1: he's got the sunset. He had me putting it on
- 3:24Speaker 1: his back. I was like, this is too much, Mike.
- 3:26Speaker 1: I don't want to have one of my James Harrison.
- 3:29Speaker 1: I think a little fold out chair is okay. My
- 3:32Speaker 1: back was grateful, but I forgot. I was just too harried.
- 3:35Speaker 1: I was so excited to get out there. I forgot
- 3:37Speaker 1: to put on some blocks. So now my my forehead
- 3:39Speaker 1: is roasted right now, so I can't get it together.
- 3:41Speaker 1: I feel like I had a poor start to OTAs,
- 3:43Speaker 1: but I'll pick it up next week. Um, you know
- 3:45Speaker 1: a lot of questions like who did what and all
- 3:47Speaker 1: that stuff. It's just guys and shorts, and it's very
- 3:50Speaker 1: very early, and it's like Bill likes distress. We're just
- 3:53Speaker 1: teaching at this point. There's not a lot of evaluation
- 3:56Speaker 1: going on, but but there's a lot to take away
- 4:00Speaker 1: where guys are playing, and ye kind of get a
- 4:02Speaker 1: sense of who the guys are actually in the mix
- 4:04Speaker 1: and who are the guys who are opportunity wrapped just
- 4:06Speaker 1: the way guys look like Paul you mentioned DeVante Park
- 4:10Speaker 1: looked fluid. I thought he looked good. He looked like
- 4:14Speaker 1: I thought he was moving pretty well based on what
- 4:17Speaker 1: I had been hearing in Miami. I was really anxious
- 4:20Speaker 1: to see how he moved. And you know, again, you're right,
- 4:23Speaker 1: shorts and all that, but I thought he moved well
- 4:26Speaker 1: and looked very fluid, very smooth. Any observations that you have,
- 4:31Speaker 1: you know, just high level stuff. Um. I thought KB
- 4:34Speaker 1: looked great. Yeah, I like one. I was pretty mad
- 4:38Speaker 1: at chrispher not getting it. But the one hand, the
- 4:41Speaker 1: one hand to catch in the corner was beautiful. It
- 4:44Speaker 1: was very Bobi j like, but it was amazing. Of course,
- 4:47Speaker 1: you know, lots of energy from KBA is always in.
- 4:50Speaker 1: My favorite thing from him yesterday actually was after ots
- 4:53Speaker 1: was done, him saying that seeing Tae Kwon, he was like,
- 4:58Speaker 1: he's so fast, like he's blazing. He was like, you know,
- 5:01Speaker 1: I need to get faster. I need to get some
- 5:04Speaker 1: weight on him. Yeah, he said, I need to get
- 5:06Speaker 1: some weight on him. He looks skinny. Yeah he looks skinny. Yeah.
- 5:11Speaker 1: Oh well he didn't, did he do? I mean, you know,
- 5:13Speaker 1: just just how he walked across the field. I guess, yeah,
- 5:16Speaker 1: well what were you? Yeah, what were you underwhelmed? I
- 5:18Speaker 1: don't like the way he moves the same kind of
- 5:20Speaker 1: thing with Parker. I was impressed with Parker. I wasn't
- 5:22Speaker 1: with Yeah, not really his straight line speed, yeah, not
- 5:25Speaker 1: really side to side. Okay, just an observation, Okay, I
- 5:31Speaker 1: mean to be fair. Um, A lot of people were
- 5:33Speaker 1: asking try Brown about his speed, and he's like, I'm
- 5:36Speaker 1: going to find out about his speed the same time
- 5:37Speaker 1: you guys find out, so we can follow up on
- 5:39Speaker 1: this later. So I think that as the practice is going,
- 5:41Speaker 1: will really be able to see how fast he really is. Yeah,
- 5:44Speaker 1: that's real football. I mean, you can talk all you
- 5:46Speaker 1: want about his straight line speed and all that, but
- 5:48Speaker 1: just you got to get out there in an actual
- 5:50Speaker 1: game situation before you can. A lot of body judging
- 5:53Speaker 1: on Matt Jones yesterday. Oh, that reminds me. That reminds me. Fred.
- 6:01Speaker 1: I'm gonna interrupt Tamara for one quick second. It's interesting
- 6:05Speaker 1: that after I got destroyed all of last year for
- 6:08Speaker 1: claiming that he probably could use a little nutritional help.
- 6:12Speaker 1: That that's a big topic your conversation yesterday, including Tamara
- 6:16Speaker 1: who said it. Ken Kendrick Bourne Kendrick Boorne was the
- 6:21Speaker 1: first first to announced that mac Jones, no, mac Jones
- 6:25Speaker 1: no longer had his stomach. He literally, stomach is gone,
- 6:27Speaker 1: is gone. He like touched it and everything. He was like,
- 6:30Speaker 1: his stomach is gone. He's in the best shape of
- 6:33Speaker 1: his life. He literally said that, um, and he was
- 6:36Speaker 1: dominating the conditioning and then mac Jones confirmed for himself
- 6:39Speaker 1: that that was a focus for him in the offseason.
- 6:41Speaker 1: He does look a little bit more, definitely thin in
- 6:44Speaker 1: the face. You can see the cheek bones. Now, yeah,
- 6:47Speaker 1: I didn't notice that like a world of difference. I mean,
- 6:49Speaker 1: he looked in good shape. But I mean he I'd
- 6:51Speaker 1: love to be in the shape he was last year, right,
- 6:54Speaker 1: you know, right when you had a belly, right, Oh,
- 6:57Speaker 1: get that belly. Right. But but he was good. I
- 6:59Speaker 1: mean he was yesterday, right, I mean he looked like
- 7:02Speaker 1: he did last year. He was consistent, seemed like he
- 7:04Speaker 1: had a pretty good command. You know, it's as far
- 7:06Speaker 1: as OTA's go. I think he got a little bit
- 7:09Speaker 1: of a glimpse of Zappy of kind of how far
- 7:11Speaker 1: Mac had come. Not to say that, you know, Zappy
- 7:13Speaker 1: was what Mac was, but you just saw some of
- 7:14Speaker 1: the rookie moments I thought from him. And you know, overall,
- 7:18Speaker 1: I think it just feels a little bit heavy at
- 7:22Speaker 1: at wide receiver, a little bit heavy at running back.
- 7:24Speaker 1: A lot of guys, I mean everybody was there. Well,
- 7:26Speaker 1: this is like a passing camp more than anything else. Yeah,
- 7:28Speaker 1: just there's a lot of bodies, you know, and I think,
- 7:30Speaker 1: especially going back two years when you when you know,
- 7:33Speaker 1: last year Brady was here, you felt like there just
- 7:35Speaker 1: wasn't much depth after Edelman. And you know, not to
- 7:38Speaker 1: say that these guys are all great or anything, but
- 7:40Speaker 1: but I think you've got a number of legitimate NFL
- 7:43Speaker 1: targets that starts with the top four of you know,
- 7:45Speaker 1: Parker and Aglore and Bourne and Myers. Those four guys all,
- 7:49Speaker 1: you know, seem like they know what they're doing. And
- 7:51Speaker 1: I absolutely agree with with Paul, and I think most
- 7:53Speaker 1: people that saw Parker, he looks like a legit receiver,
- 7:55Speaker 1: so how a look once it gets going. But I
- 7:58Speaker 1: think the other guy that kind of stood out in
- 7:59Speaker 1: the ning back group first. Great to see James White
- 8:02Speaker 1: out there. Didn't participate a lot, but you know, just
- 8:03Speaker 1: for him to be out there. But you know, Kevin Harris,
- 8:06Speaker 1: Paul wrote about it and block servations, We kept talking
- 8:08Speaker 1: about it. This guys got some quads on him. I
- 8:10Speaker 1: mean he's a big Yeah, that's not like an issue
- 8:13Speaker 1: that I was like talking about another man's quads. No,
- 8:16Speaker 1: when I read you're gonna be walking out how I
- 8:20Speaker 1: hate Paul they are check them out, um, But but
- 8:24Speaker 1: he was active. I think Pierre Strong a little bit limited.
- 8:27Speaker 1: Um didn't really participate like uh like like he did,
- 8:30Speaker 1: like Harris did, both Harris's but but you know Ramandre
- 8:34Speaker 1: and you know JJ Taylor back in the mix. Um.
- 8:37Speaker 1: You know Paul Paul wrote, we noticed that Montgomery, who's
- 8:41Speaker 1: kick returner, wide receiver, running back. Um, he was with
- 8:46Speaker 1: the receivers there is UM. So yeah, you know, just
- 8:51Speaker 1: just a lot of different weapons, young guys, a couple
- 8:54Speaker 1: new guys obviously the returners. But I mean, you know,
- 8:57Speaker 1: as far as trying to read into offensive evolution or changes,
- 9:00Speaker 1: and they're just kind of did you think that was it?
- 9:03Speaker 1: Did you listen to it all to radio yesterday? Um?
- 9:07Speaker 1: And it wasn't you know. I think it was on
- 9:13Speaker 1: with Fourier on your station, Fred, Yeah, UM talking about
- 9:19Speaker 1: I don't know who they were reading from, but they
- 9:22Speaker 1: were talking about like the you know, changing of the offense,
- 9:25Speaker 1: the style, not the the play caller or all that stuff,
- 9:29Speaker 1: but changing you know a lot of boots and naked
- 9:31Speaker 1: bootlegs and whatnot. And I'm like, are we basing like
- 9:36Speaker 1: there's gonna be a whole world evolution change based on
- 9:38Speaker 1: like one ota that you about that which I didn't
- 9:43Speaker 1: really see. By the way. There was a couple of
- 9:45Speaker 1: plays I thought was odd that mac Jones would follow
- 9:48Speaker 1: up his his fakes with like sprints down the sideline,
- 9:52Speaker 1: which I thought was kind of just that back to
- 9:55Speaker 1: the working out, Yeah, back, you know, Okay, I'm making
- 9:58Speaker 1: a point of this. I'm trying to change my my
- 10:02Speaker 1: workouts and my routines and whatnot. But I didn't take
- 10:05Speaker 1: that as any kind of sign that the offense is
- 10:06Speaker 1: gonna suddenly feature. Right, Well, let's get mac Jones out
- 10:10Speaker 1: in space. I mean, does that make sense to anybody? No?
- 10:12Speaker 1: And I think the point was, you know, going more
- 10:14Speaker 1: to a Shanahan wide zone kind of thing of that's
- 10:17Speaker 1: you know, wide zone, wide zone, then the boot play
- 10:19Speaker 1: action off of it, and then you hit the deep guys.
- 10:21Speaker 1: I think that's what people expect them. Hasn't the day
- 10:24Speaker 1: to make me feel? Hasn't that been a part of
- 10:25Speaker 1: their package? Of course, I think they do everything. You know,
- 10:28Speaker 1: they It's all part of it. I think you're reading
- 10:31Speaker 1: too much into that if you're trying to trying to
- 10:32Speaker 1: figure all that. Oh, I mean, you know, listen, I
- 10:35Speaker 1: understand that we don't get a lot of information from Bill,
- 10:39Speaker 1: so that so we're left to our own devices to
- 10:42Speaker 1: kind of figure out what's going on. But like, you know,
- 10:45Speaker 1: just the the entry yesterday about like you know, who's
- 10:49Speaker 1: calling plays and all this stuff, and it's like nobody
- 10:52Speaker 1: is right now, they're not really They've got probably a
- 10:54Speaker 1: pocket full of things that they're doing just to see
- 10:57Speaker 1: guys out in routes. They're not really calling. That's like Mac,
- 11:02Speaker 1: That's what Max said. He's like, we're don't really get
- 11:04Speaker 1: game planning right now. So it's fine, Like we're not
- 11:07Speaker 1: really worried about that. I mean, I understood that they're
- 11:10Speaker 1: not game planning. No one was suggesting that they were.
- 11:13Speaker 1: Like Bill's defensiveness in his press conference was mid season level.
- 11:17Speaker 1: Oh yeah, he was ready to go. Yeah, no one's
- 11:20Speaker 1: suggesting that their game planning. But someone's telling Mac Jones
- 11:23Speaker 1: what they're doing in practice. Sure, like that's all anybody
- 11:26Speaker 1: was asking. It's like, and it looked yesterday like it
- 11:29Speaker 1: was Joe Judge. But for all we know, like on
- 11:31Speaker 1: Max's wrist, he's got the ten plays they're gonna run already,
- 11:35Speaker 1: so he don't need anyone to tell him. Yeah, you know,
- 11:38Speaker 1: I just I think all the mystery it's probably gonna
- 11:40Speaker 1: be Joe Judge. That's it's probably Joe Judge. All right,
- 11:43Speaker 1: can we just like say, I don't know why it's
- 11:45Speaker 1: it's it's such a problem to some people, like they
- 11:48Speaker 1: don't know who the offensive coordinator is. I mean people
- 11:51Speaker 1: not the Patriots fans don't know who the offensive coordinators
- 11:54Speaker 1: and I mean, god forbid, they're interested in the team
- 11:57Speaker 1: and they what they like to know. Like sorry, I know,
- 12:00Speaker 1: and I and like I said, I can understand that
- 12:03Speaker 1: people are looking for answers and the only way they
- 12:05Speaker 1: can do it is guests at this point. But you know,
- 12:10Speaker 1: it's it's just crazy, like you said, Paul, like you
- 12:12Speaker 1: think that they already know, and they probably do, but
- 12:15Speaker 1: like it's a couple of people wrote, you know, they're
- 12:19Speaker 1: gonna have an audition this summer for who's going to
- 12:22Speaker 1: be the play caller. And now I heard people saying
- 12:24Speaker 1: on the radio today like that's a fact, like the
- 12:27Speaker 1: summer is an audition. Well, there's no freaking way that
- 12:30Speaker 1: there's an audition going on. People have reported that, including
- 12:33Speaker 1: Mike Reefs. I know. And so it's not like someone
- 12:36Speaker 1: threw that out there off the wall, like Mike Reese
- 12:39Speaker 1: was on ESPN, like three weeks ago saying there's been
- 12:42Speaker 1: a lot of voices on the you know, it's been Mapatricia,
- 12:46Speaker 1: it's been Joe Judge, it's been Bill Belichick. And then
- 12:49Speaker 1: he had the thing with the pencil in his air
- 12:51Speaker 1: talking about and the plan is to have all of
- 12:55Speaker 1: these guys sort of work at this. That's I mean,
- 12:58Speaker 1: that's not a made up thing. That's something for Mike Reese,
- 13:00Speaker 1: who does not He's not in the business of making
- 13:03Speaker 1: crap up. Yeah, So I think there's a chance that
- 13:07Speaker 1: you guys are right. I feel like that that Bill
- 13:09Speaker 1: knows who the play caller is doesn't mean I'm right. Yeah,
- 13:12Speaker 1: I don't you guys might be right now, guys think
- 13:14Speaker 1: that they're still working. I think Bill knows. I just
- 13:16Speaker 1: don't think he said this is who's calling plays this year.
- 13:19Speaker 1: Like I think Bill knows exactly what he's going to
- 13:21Speaker 1: do too. I just don't think he's voiced it. And
- 13:24Speaker 1: and I don't think it's an audition. But how like
- 13:26Speaker 1: can we play that out? Like how would you audition
- 13:30Speaker 1: how would you audition offensive coordinators? That? Like, what does
- 13:32Speaker 1: that look like? Because everybody puts the game plan, I mean,
- 13:34Speaker 1: what is the like the how would you discern between Well,
- 13:37Speaker 1: I mean, Matt called this play in this situation, but
- 13:39Speaker 1: Joe called this play in this situation. I'm going to
- 13:41Speaker 1: give the edge to Joe and that, Like, it just
- 13:42Speaker 1: seems so difficult to unpack who's better at it in
- 13:46Speaker 1: an audition training camp? And really is that a fair
- 13:50Speaker 1: audition in training camp unless you're playing a real game
- 13:53Speaker 1: with the flow of the game, is it fair to
- 13:55Speaker 1: like evaluate anyone? I think the audition, if it was
- 13:59Speaker 1: to be something like that, would be more off the field.
- 14:02Speaker 1: It's more in meetings. You know who's got who's got
- 14:04Speaker 1: the inswes that Bill's looking for. I know in the meetings,
- 14:07Speaker 1: you know setting, so you pass that part of it.
- 14:09Speaker 1: But to me, like I said, until you see the
- 14:13Speaker 1: person doing it in a game, a live game that counts,
- 14:17Speaker 1: how can you properly judge them on their ability? But
- 14:20Speaker 1: you won't know for certain right, just like how can
- 14:23Speaker 1: you judge a rookie before we ever play. That's what
- 14:25Speaker 1: I'm saying. That's like deciding who your starting quarterback is
- 14:28Speaker 1: that they could look great at practice, but then they
- 14:31Speaker 1: get in the game and they do the same. Chances
- 14:33Speaker 1: are if you don't have the answers, Well, that's like
- 14:36Speaker 1: I said, that's like beforehand, you're not going to be
- 14:38Speaker 1: able to do it. It's you know, I don't know.
- 14:41Speaker 1: I'm still I just think it's interesting because I don't
- 14:44Speaker 1: really know of any other team it's ever done it
- 14:46Speaker 1: like this that's had this amount of uncertainty surrounding the
- 14:51Speaker 1: offensive coordinator slash play caller of an offense in May.
- 14:55Speaker 1: Bill kept saying, it's May, it's May, it's May, like
- 14:58Speaker 1: you know, they have nine years to wait before the
- 15:00Speaker 1: season starts. Yeah, And you know what's funny, Like he's
- 15:03Speaker 1: really he's also dispelling the whole narrative of like no
- 15:07Speaker 1: one has done it, And he's like, well, you know,
- 15:09Speaker 1: we've got a lot of people who have done it
- 15:11Speaker 1: and not done it, done it and not done it right.
- 15:13Speaker 1: Every day there's a short Oh. By the way, I
- 15:16Speaker 1: think there's very much a possibility that he is in
- 15:19Speaker 1: the mix. Oh, I do too without a card. By
- 15:22Speaker 1: the way, I think he could do it without having
- 15:25Speaker 1: to read it off a card. You know, I mean,
- 15:28Speaker 1: does Josh always have a card? Yeah? Did he always
- 15:31Speaker 1: have a card? Yes? I don't, I don't know. I
- 15:35Speaker 1: think he did. I see every time. I can picture
- 15:37Speaker 1: him on the sidelines. I think, so he had what
- 15:39Speaker 1: you gotta you gotta cover your mouth out something. I agree,
- 15:44Speaker 1: you know that this is an interesting part of the
- 15:46Speaker 1: twenty twenty two Patriots. I just am kind of annoyed
- 15:51Speaker 1: that it's everything right now, that's all he was at,
- 15:54Speaker 1: Like there's so much going on with his team, Like
- 15:56Speaker 1: I get it, there's up, but can there be other
- 15:58Speaker 1: storylines that we talk about that we ask him a lot.
- 16:00Speaker 1: I mean, you've got you know, there's a lot to
- 16:01Speaker 1: talk about other than just and that's just it just
- 16:04Speaker 1: feels kind of excessive at this point because the answer
- 16:07Speaker 1: is it's probably gonna be Joe Judge. That's who's gonna
- 16:09Speaker 1: call the place. So we can criticize that, say he
- 16:11Speaker 1: didn't have experience. It's concerning all that. Let but there's
- 16:14Speaker 1: also the defense the guys we saw yesterday playing big roles,
- 16:17Speaker 1: Ray Kwon, McMillan's going to step in. I mean, it
- 16:19Speaker 1: looks a lot different out there without Van Noy and
- 16:22Speaker 1: high tower guys that you know last year you were
- 16:24Speaker 1: excited to have back, so you know, and also Mitchell
- 16:28Speaker 1: and Butler, they seem to be kind of stepping right
- 16:30Speaker 1: into the mix of cornerback. Um, you know, I thought,
- 16:33Speaker 1: I mean, I thought Butler looked looked pretty good. I
- 16:35Speaker 1: thought he still looked kind of the same, seemed like
- 16:36Speaker 1: he was, you know, right there back at his old spot.
- 16:39Speaker 1: I don't know what it means at this point, but
- 16:41Speaker 1: I don't know. I just I just feel like that
- 16:43Speaker 1: that story is just like has a gravity right now
- 16:46Speaker 1: that's pulling everything into it. And that's that's just everything
- 16:49Speaker 1: that people want to focus on it. Now. Were you deuce,
- 16:52Speaker 1: were you breathless when they released the numbers some of
- 16:54Speaker 1: the numbers like you right up your Oh, Fred, you
- 16:57Speaker 1: got me, You nailed me, You nailed me. And it
- 16:59Speaker 1: was difficult because, as you know, we've got you know,
- 17:01Speaker 1: I got my little thing that I keep, and then
- 17:03Speaker 1: we got the actual roster, and then we don't have
- 17:05Speaker 1: Eric calling out the numbers. Paul's wandering like a ship
- 17:08Speaker 1: in the night, calling my numbers, calling my number, you know.
- 17:11Speaker 1: And then guys switched numbers. So you know what, all
- 17:13Speaker 1: of a sudden, Miles Bryan's got an number, So those
- 17:16Speaker 1: are my favorites. Miles Bryan switched this number. What was
- 17:20Speaker 1: his number? That's a serious question. Forty one, Like I
- 17:24Speaker 1: had no idea that. Like everybody so, oh, Miles, Bryan's
- 17:26Speaker 1: got a different number, I don't, okay, if you say so.
- 17:29Speaker 1: My favorite part of the day, though part of it
- 17:31Speaker 1: at least, was coming back to my desk and being like, no,
- 17:33Speaker 1: I get to update all my numbers and put it
- 17:35Speaker 1: all into us. I'm a nerd like that for sure.
- 17:39Speaker 1: I guess I dropped the ball in the blog. I
- 17:40Speaker 1: didn't mention any number talking it's missing. Yeah, um, but
- 17:45Speaker 1: I you know, I know there are other stories, but
- 17:47Speaker 1: I just just to follow up on the whole play club.
- 17:50Speaker 1: One thing I do worry about is, you know, they
- 17:53Speaker 1: say that, oh, it's going to be collaborative. You know,
- 17:56Speaker 1: the offense is going to be collaborative. Okay. To me,
- 18:00Speaker 1: you can be collaborative on the game planning, like, okay, Troy,
- 18:04Speaker 1: what do you have to offer? Nick? What do you
- 18:06Speaker 1: have to offer? But to me, the collaboration ends on
- 18:09Speaker 1: game day when it comes to the play calling. You know,
- 18:13Speaker 1: you gotta have people focusing on the players out there
- 18:15Speaker 1: and not just the next play, right, you know, So
- 18:18Speaker 1: it can't be a committee when it's like third and two,
- 18:20Speaker 1: when you're like or fourth and two? Do we go
- 18:21Speaker 1: for it? What do you think? What do you think?
- 18:23Speaker 1: You gotta be a guy who's in Yeah, And I
- 18:25Speaker 1: mean going forward on fourth and two is a head
- 18:28Speaker 1: coach decision and head coach decision only. But the call itself,
- 18:33Speaker 1: I agree with you guys, it needs to be from
- 18:35Speaker 1: whoever the play caller is um and I would I
- 18:38Speaker 1: would agree with Mike and disagree with him at the
- 18:40Speaker 1: same time. The part I agree with is that it
- 18:42Speaker 1: feels it definitely feels like I think it's a major issue,
- 18:48Speaker 1: probably a bigger issue. This is a part that I
- 18:50Speaker 1: disagree with Mike. I probably feel like it's a bigger
- 18:52Speaker 1: issue than Mike thinks. Mike's tired of it, I think
- 18:55Speaker 1: because there's so much uncertainty that just don't have that
- 19:00Speaker 1: it's a concern and sometimes when you're just like looking
- 19:02Speaker 1: at that way, like I don't want to worry about it,
- 19:04Speaker 1: you know. But the other part of it is that
- 19:06Speaker 1: I w I agree with Mike is we're not going
- 19:10Speaker 1: to know, Like it's pretty clear, like I have no
- 19:12Speaker 1: problem with the press conference yesterday, but if he if
- 19:16Speaker 1: Bill talks again next Tuesday and it's the same questions,
- 19:20Speaker 1: then I do have a problem with it, because I
- 19:22Speaker 1: don't know why you're thinking you're gonna ask him on
- 19:23Speaker 1: a different day and get a different answer. Right, So,
- 19:27Speaker 1: on one hand, I think it's an enormous story. On
- 19:30Speaker 1: the other hand, Okay, that's the story, but we're not
- 19:34Speaker 1: going to get to the bottom of it. Yeah, to me,
- 19:36Speaker 1: if we if we get to August and it's not
- 19:38Speaker 1: evident who evident? I don't need Bill to tell me.
- 19:42Speaker 1: But the evidence isn't there, and who's calling plays, then
- 19:45Speaker 1: I think we got an issue. But I'm willing to
- 19:48Speaker 1: wait until it happens, and then we'll see, you know, well,
- 19:52Speaker 1: it'll be obvious, I mean, you know what, like once
- 19:54Speaker 1: it happens, it'll be the same thing that's happened on
- 19:55Speaker 1: the defensive side of the ball, where everybody's just watching
- 19:58Speaker 1: the side. It looks like Steve Belichick's calling it, you know,
- 20:00Speaker 1: and that'll be it looks like Joe Judge. I'm sure
- 20:03Speaker 1: we'll get to the bottom of it. Eventually. There'll be
- 20:04Speaker 1: a practice where, like it usually happened with Josh, he
- 20:07Speaker 1: comes out with the headset on and all right, now
- 20:09Speaker 1: they're working on the communication. But you know, as as
- 20:12Speaker 1: Paul pointed out, they'll probably keep us on her toes
- 20:14Speaker 1: and keep rotating it and you know, try to try
- 20:17Speaker 1: to maintain some of that mystery for whatever. But is
- 20:19Speaker 1: that good though? I mean, if you're in preseason and
- 20:22Speaker 1: one game it's Nick Kayley, another game it's Joe Judge,
- 20:25Speaker 1: how is that getting you prepared? This is why I
- 20:27Speaker 1: say I think it's an off field thing. Yeah, Like,
- 20:30Speaker 1: I don't think it's gonna be that. I don't think
- 20:31Speaker 1: they're gonna be on one preseason game one guy calls it.
- 20:34Speaker 1: But first of all, who cares what the how the
- 20:37Speaker 1: play calling unfolds in the preseason when the other team's
- 20:40Speaker 1: not game planning. No, I'm just talking about in terms
- 20:43Speaker 1: of practice and getting in the flow and getting Mac
- 20:45Speaker 1: Jones getting used to hearing this guy's voice in his year.
- 20:49Speaker 1: I think it's important. Yep. Yeah, I mean I would
- 20:51Speaker 1: just say I don't based on yesterday, I don't think
- 20:54Speaker 1: Nick Kyley is in the mix. I mean Achille is
- 20:56Speaker 1: the tight ends coach. He wasn't really in that mix.
- 20:59Speaker 1: I mean, and will you know say that, Oh, Belichick
- 21:01Speaker 1: was around the offense more and oh I think Matt
- 21:04Speaker 1: Patricia might have called some plays here, but it's Joe Judge,
- 21:07Speaker 1: like he's the one following Mac around and you know,
- 21:11Speaker 1: whispering in his ear the whole time. I mean, that's
- 21:13Speaker 1: that's who it's going to be. So I guess, I
- 21:15Speaker 1: guess we we wait and see see. You know what
- 21:17Speaker 1: I'm kind of thinking, And I agree with everything Mike
- 21:20Speaker 1: just said, because we I don't know, if you know what,
- 21:22Speaker 1: we talk about this stuff before the show. Yeah, to Marry,
- 21:25Speaker 1: you're coming upstairs with us now so you can be
- 21:27Speaker 1: part of our little a little convosum. The one thing
- 21:32Speaker 1: is yesterday, clearly, Mike, it was Joe Judge doing the
- 21:36Speaker 1: majority of talking with Mac Jones. Bill was all offense,
- 21:40Speaker 1: and he talked to Mac Jones especially late in practice.
- 21:43Speaker 1: I thought there might have been some relaying of plays
- 21:46Speaker 1: from Bill to Mac Jones. Matt Patricia was outside and
- 21:50Speaker 1: Nick Cayley was outside. I have no I will have
- 21:54Speaker 1: no surprise whatsoever if on Tuesday the thirty first, when
- 21:57Speaker 1: we're out there again, it's Matt Patricia like much more
- 22:03Speaker 1: involved because they don't want us to know what's going.
- 22:07Speaker 1: We need to let people know because not everyone understands,
- 22:10Speaker 1: you know, everything that goes on. We have access yesterday
- 22:14Speaker 1: and we'll have access next Tuesday. But there's a whole
- 22:17Speaker 1: bunch of practices in between that we have no idea
- 22:20Speaker 1: what's going on, you know, So we can only report
- 22:23Speaker 1: on what we see once a week, and then we'll
- 22:26Speaker 1: have mini camp June seventh day, the nine that we'll
- 22:29Speaker 1: be out there for all three days. But there's a
- 22:31Speaker 1: bunch of stuff that happens when we're not there. Yeah, yeah,
- 22:34Speaker 1: you know. Yeah, I mean that's why I try not
- 22:36Speaker 1: to bang the drum too hard on interesting personnel stuff,
- 22:40Speaker 1: Like you know, was Butler and Mitchell kind of the
- 22:42Speaker 1: starting outside corners and Mitchell and Mills was with the
- 22:45Speaker 1: second group coming. Yeah, but I don't you know, I
- 22:47Speaker 1: don't want to think that sound like, oh Mills is
- 22:49Speaker 1: out and these guys, you know, I think that they
- 22:51Speaker 1: like to put some new guys with the top groups
- 22:54Speaker 1: see how they react. But you know, I mean I
- 22:57Speaker 1: think one other thing to comment is like I think
- 23:00Speaker 1: Wilson and Ray Kua McMillan are much more should be
- 23:03Speaker 1: much more on people's radars than Josh Uch and Cameron mcgron,
- 23:06Speaker 1: Like I think those Patriot guys that you know, j mcgron,
- 23:10Speaker 1: like we'll see. Mcgron's still kind of working his way back.
- 23:12Speaker 1: But you know, it's not like, oh ouch, seems like
- 23:15Speaker 1: he's embedded in the top group. I mean, he's in
- 23:17Speaker 1: the mix. But I think McMillan and Wilson are guys
- 23:21Speaker 1: that are probably in line to play bigger roles in
- 23:25Speaker 1: the awful linebacker role. I'm my early hopeful guy that
- 23:30Speaker 1: emerges this year as mcgron. Yeah, so talk to him yesterday. Yeah,
- 23:33Speaker 1: I wrote a little bit around on this morning. He
- 23:35Speaker 1: I mean asked him how was the week he came back.
- 23:38Speaker 1: He was, you know, back for two weeks when he
- 23:39Speaker 1: was briefly out of the pup window or however it was,
- 23:43Speaker 1: and then he reverted. But you know, just a great
- 23:45Speaker 1: chance to put some stuff to work. And um, you know,
- 23:48Speaker 1: commented on a speed he looks small to me. I
- 23:49Speaker 1: mean that was my comment to Paul hit him and McMillan.
- 23:52Speaker 1: I'm like, they're not okay. I wanted to take in
- 23:55Speaker 1: the draft with small guys. I like that I just
- 23:58Speaker 1: don't know if they can run. Yeah, well that they're
- 24:00Speaker 1: small and and forget it. Yeah, I like the fact
- 24:05Speaker 1: that they're small. And I said that to Mike on
- 24:07Speaker 1: the field yesterday when we were looking at because he
- 24:09Speaker 1: Mike is right like, you're looking and you're like, just
- 24:12Speaker 1: because you're thinking of Dante High Tower, some side tower.
- 24:16Speaker 1: You know, there's enormous specimen of a man, and that's
- 24:19Speaker 1: not what these guys are. Was there any news about
- 24:22Speaker 1: High Tower yesterday? Because somebody who used to work here
- 24:26Speaker 1: texted me and said, high Tower done? And he's still deciding. Fred,
- 24:31Speaker 1: I mean, it could go either way. We don't know
- 24:33Speaker 1: for sure. You're a bad person because you have a
- 24:37Speaker 1: smile on your face when you do it, and you're
- 24:39Speaker 1: trying to get me in trouble. Well, I mean, you
- 24:41Speaker 1: know people are reporting that that he's still deciding. So
- 24:43Speaker 1: I don't know. It's tough because I don't want to
- 24:46Speaker 1: like write him out because I still I could still
- 24:48Speaker 1: see them bringing him back just for you know, comes
- 24:50Speaker 1: in in camp and he's like a you know, one
- 24:52Speaker 1: of those VIP veteran roles, you know, bring him on
- 24:55Speaker 1: a third down rush, the quarterback kind of thing. I can.
- 24:56Speaker 1: I could still see him coming back. I'm not like
- 24:58Speaker 1: I don't want it. I'm not in the draw. I
- 25:00Speaker 1: know Paul would lose his mind with that one. Um,
- 25:03Speaker 1: you know, I would like to see them move to
- 25:05Speaker 1: these guys like Wilson and McMillan. But again, it's still
- 25:08Speaker 1: hard to look at that group yesterday and think, yeah,
- 25:11Speaker 1: this is you know, it's like, all right, we got
- 25:13Speaker 1: some new guys. I don't know, I don't know. I mean,
- 25:15Speaker 1: Jeff Howe was on one of Paul's stations this morning
- 25:17Speaker 1: and they asked him, you know, how's the defense look,
- 25:20Speaker 1: and rightly so he said, you know, it's hard to tell.
- 25:23Speaker 1: I mean, they're in shorts, which was they're not tackling.
- 25:26Speaker 1: Thirty five seconds after he told you what Mac Jones's
- 25:28Speaker 1: completion stats were a quote in the competitive defenses, they
- 25:33Speaker 1: get the guy with the ball and bring him down
- 25:35Speaker 1: to the ground. So they couldn't do that, you know.
- 25:38Speaker 1: So yeah, now he's but in terms of like you know,
- 25:42Speaker 1: you said in the cornerbacks, M yeah, you know, Jack
- 25:46Speaker 1: Jones kind of in the mix, scrappy, you know, a little.
- 25:48Speaker 1: I mean, he just he looked quick, He looked quick,
- 25:50Speaker 1: He looked I don't want to say decisive, because that,
- 25:53Speaker 1: you know, implies he knows what he's doing. But he
- 25:55Speaker 1: just he seemed to look okay out there. I mean
- 25:58Speaker 1: him and Harris. I think we're the two rookies. Granted,
- 26:00Speaker 1: I mean the other guys. I mean, Strange was in there.
- 26:03Speaker 1: Strange was in there. I didn't really get too much
- 26:05Speaker 1: of us him. I'm not getting much offensive line play. Um.
- 26:08Speaker 1: But but those two guys, Harris and and and um
- 26:12Speaker 1: and Jack Jones both both showed up a little bit.
- 26:14Speaker 1: I mean, just as far as rookies, first day of
- 26:17Speaker 1: access coming and Paul, you wrote that ron Wolf was there.
- 26:20Speaker 1: Ron Wolf was there. Yes, we walked out with We
- 26:22Speaker 1: walked out Mike and I, uh, we turned, we got
- 26:25Speaker 1: right ron We got right out of the elevator, and
- 26:29Speaker 1: I apologize Mike. I thought I was no. No, I
- 26:31Speaker 1: didn't know who it was. I had no idea who
- 26:32Speaker 1: it was, Like, who's this old guy they're walking out
- 26:34Speaker 1: the practice right now. It's funny because I didn't know
- 26:37Speaker 1: who Elliot Wolf was. Okay, but I recognized ron Wolf
- 26:40Speaker 1: and I was like, oh, he must be going out
- 26:41Speaker 1: with Elliott. That makes it all coming together. Um. But
- 26:47Speaker 1: you know, just in terms of the uh, the absence there,
- 26:50Speaker 1: I did well. I wrote down my quick little let's takeaways,
- 26:53Speaker 1: not a you got you got throughout your ploxuvations. I
- 26:55Speaker 1: need to save these um But one other thing, I
- 26:57Speaker 1: think the two people I was disappointed that weren't there
- 27:00Speaker 1: are Isaiah Wynn and Ronnie Perkins. Those two, you know,
- 27:04Speaker 1: I'm fine jude On Lawrence Guy. Uh. I forget who
- 27:09Speaker 1: who for one day and that's why I try to stress,
- 27:14Speaker 1: like you know, it is voluntary and there are different
- 27:16Speaker 1: things going on. We saw some guys on rehab field,
- 27:19Speaker 1: so I don't know exactly who isn't here, but it's
- 27:25Speaker 1: not a great thing. I think there was like like
- 27:28Speaker 1: Judean and Guy and some of those players like that.
- 27:31Speaker 1: I'm not thrilled that they're not here either unless they
- 27:33Speaker 1: are here and just weren't on the field for whatever
- 27:36Speaker 1: during the portion that we saw, you know. And so Tuesday,
- 27:40Speaker 1: if you have like it was like fifteen fifteen or
- 27:44Speaker 1: so guys not that weren't spotted. If you have like
- 27:47Speaker 1: the same fifteen or so guys on on Tuesday, that
- 27:50Speaker 1: I don't think that would be great. No, I like
- 27:53Speaker 1: Ajan Phillips, some of them are relevant places. Some of
- 27:57Speaker 1: these players have earned a little bit of leeway with me.
- 28:00Speaker 1: I never know what's going on. Yeah, I would hasn't
- 28:05Speaker 1: earned any leeway with me as far as is he
- 28:07Speaker 1: not here because he's hurt? Again? Is he not here
- 28:09Speaker 1: because he thinks he's got it in his last year
- 28:11Speaker 1: in the the contract? And then you know, same thing with
- 28:13Speaker 1: Ronnie Perkins. Another guy that's going to be in that
- 28:15Speaker 1: mix of linebackers hasn't proven anything yet. Is one of
- 28:18Speaker 1: those young guys that they're potentially hoping to count on.
- 28:21Speaker 1: Where's he? Is he hurt? Is? You know he should?
- 28:23Speaker 1: He's somebody that needs these reps and needs to get
- 28:26Speaker 1: into the mix a sap. But um, Harry, I mean,
- 28:29Speaker 1: I of course he's if I'm him, And you know,
- 28:32Speaker 1: I'm kind of a lame duck right now, I'm not.
- 28:34Speaker 1: I know, I don't think he needs to be here anyway.
- 28:35Speaker 1: But yeah, the kickers, I'm sure they'll. I just think
- 28:40Speaker 1: Harry needs to be playing football, even if his next
- 28:43Speaker 1: year is with another team. I'd like to see from
- 28:46Speaker 1: you know, oh, he was out there on OTAs for
- 28:50Speaker 1: his former team. I would just like to see that. Well,
- 28:52Speaker 1: that was like the narrative like last year was he
- 28:54Speaker 1: looks he looks you know, each year it's like he
- 28:56Speaker 1: looks a little flank, he looks a little quicker. He
- 28:58Speaker 1: looks a little bigger, you know, like, oh, it seems
- 29:01Speaker 1: like he's maybe got something on track now and maybe
- 29:04Speaker 1: and now it seems like I don't know. I'm not
- 29:07Speaker 1: gonna ever play here. I want you guys to trade me.
- 29:10Speaker 1: I'm gonna stay in Arizona. I'm gonna make sure I
- 29:12Speaker 1: don't get hurt. And even then there's no character. These
- 29:15Speaker 1: guys get hurt when you work at the poor Tariko.
- 29:18Speaker 1: And last week yeah, right that video on his like
- 29:21Speaker 1: Instagram live, Yeah, yeah, that was on a gunshot. It
- 29:24Speaker 1: was this Achilles. Can you imagine that You're like, okay,
- 29:28Speaker 1: watch me work out, especially now where it's like, oh,
- 29:33Speaker 1: you're gonna be on TikTok. Now you're gonna be like
- 29:35Speaker 1: like right, there's a good TikTok with this girl who
- 29:37Speaker 1: like banks or shin on some sorry what you know
- 29:41Speaker 1: what I'm talking about. Those are just some more random
- 29:43Speaker 1: like those are the things that workouts go bad. Yeah,
- 29:45Speaker 1: like you know, it makes a funny noise and then
- 29:48Speaker 1: everybody's got to make a make a make a joke
- 29:50Speaker 1: of it. But um but yeah, and and co work too,
- 29:53Speaker 1: that's another one who has been hurt. Why why isn't
- 29:55Speaker 1: he out there? A lot of good stuff though to see,
- 29:58Speaker 1: like I agree with Mike about Jack Jones just looked
- 30:00Speaker 1: like he's got some athleticism to him, you know. And
- 30:03Speaker 1: there's so much talk in April when the draft happened
- 30:07Speaker 1: about oh they really went out and improved the team's
- 30:10Speaker 1: speed well with Thornton, with Jones. You saw a couple
- 30:13Speaker 1: of guys on the field yesterday, like, uh yeah, yeah,
- 30:16Speaker 1: I think I think these guys are faster than the
- 30:18Speaker 1: guys that they're going to be replacing. So you could,
- 30:20Speaker 1: you know, you sort of get a picture of it
- 30:22Speaker 1: in your mind. Some of it might be, you know,
- 30:24Speaker 1: you know, a misleading first impression, but I thought Jack
- 30:27Speaker 1: Jones looked looked pretty athletic to me. And we saw
- 30:30Speaker 1: a little bit of a Bill given someone on one
- 30:32Speaker 1: time with Marcus Jones talking about punt returning and you
- 30:34Speaker 1: know a little private conversation working through some things with him.
- 30:37Speaker 1: So I was like watching those guys that he singles out,
- 30:40Speaker 1: and I thought that was Jack. Was that Jack? Yeah?
- 30:43Speaker 1: At least that's what I wrote in the blog. Maybe
- 30:45Speaker 1: it was one of the Jones is keeping up tough,
- 30:48Speaker 1: keeping up with I think it was Jack Jones, because
- 30:50Speaker 1: I was actually commenting that I was disappointed that Marcus
- 30:52Speaker 1: wasn't over there, and then I was reminded that he
- 30:56Speaker 1: had a couple of shoulder problems. I wonder if double shoulders,
- 30:59Speaker 1: because we didn't seem much from him yesterday. Now there
- 31:01Speaker 1: were there were a good chunk of guys that were
- 31:03Speaker 1: up there for warm ups. Then guys went down to
- 31:05Speaker 1: lower field, then you know, came back up later. We're
- 31:08Speaker 1: a little bit lesser participants, all right. Eight five five
- 31:10Speaker 1: past five hundred is the A sticket hut line? Eight
- 31:12Speaker 1: five five past five hundred web radio at Patriots dot
- 31:15Speaker 1: com is the email address? Did you mention your tree Nixon?
- 31:18Speaker 1: I didn't. I don't. I didn't. I threw one line,
- 31:21Speaker 1: but I didn't say then I didn't. I left snarky
- 31:24Speaker 1: Paula on the hill. Look quick, I didn't write I
- 31:28Speaker 1: didn't write that. I didn't write it the way I
- 31:29Speaker 1: said it on the hill. A couple of little catches. Yeah, okay,
- 31:32Speaker 1: it's nice. Let's go to the A sticket hout line.
- 31:35Speaker 1: Chris with a T, I A N what's up? Christian? Christian?
- 31:40Speaker 1: Everybody can hear me? Okay, yes, yes, When how much
- 31:43Speaker 1: is the ransom I have a skill doesn't really sound bad.
- 31:50Speaker 1: It just sound like you're being held hostage a little bit.
- 31:52Speaker 1: But that's okay, keep going. I just had a comment
- 31:56Speaker 1: about the coordinator and do you worry about on offense?
- 32:01Speaker 1: Do you worry about if they're sort of mess them
- 32:03Speaker 1: around with who's going to be no person to call
- 32:07Speaker 1: plays and put together the game plans and all that,
- 32:10Speaker 1: that it's going to take away from the development of
- 32:12Speaker 1: the young guys, that a guy like Max's so important
- 32:15Speaker 1: in year two and it's so important for these rookies
- 32:17Speaker 1: to get too off to a fast start. Do you
- 32:20Speaker 1: see that being a problem at all? Or do you
- 32:21Speaker 1: think there's enough coaches on the staff that that won't
- 32:24Speaker 1: necessarily be an issue. I mean, I think it's a concern.
- 32:27Speaker 1: I mean I I just throw the uncertainty like is
- 32:30Speaker 1: Joe Judge? Are you how do you feel about Joe
- 32:32Speaker 1: Judge being the guy that develops Mac Jones in year two?
- 32:34Speaker 1: I think that's what the question is. And no, I
- 32:37Speaker 1: mean I hasn't done it before. I'd feel the same
- 32:40Speaker 1: way about just about any coach that was put into
- 32:42Speaker 1: that situation who had not been in office. What if
- 32:44Speaker 1: it's Bill developing Mac Joe. Well, it's which I'm sure
- 32:48Speaker 1: is part of it, the major power felo. But you know,
- 32:51Speaker 1: I still think you want, you know, like we said,
- 32:55Speaker 1: like somebody who's thinking about offense and how to push them.
- 32:59Speaker 1: That's why no disrespect to Bill. I think he's more
- 33:01Speaker 1: of a defensive guy, and I don't really think he
- 33:04Speaker 1: is sort of the guy to bring the offense to
- 33:09Speaker 1: like the new age a different level. Yeah, you know
- 33:11Speaker 1: what I mean, new twists that caught us by supresse.
- 33:14Speaker 1: I would rather be a younger voice. I'm not as
- 33:16Speaker 1: worried about Mac Jones' development, and it also can work
- 33:20Speaker 1: both ways. I think this is shaping up as one
- 33:22Speaker 1: of these things where Mac Jones has his built in
- 33:24Speaker 1: excuse and in some ways that takes a lot of
- 33:28Speaker 1: pressure off. Yeah, you know, because a lot of people
- 33:30Speaker 1: are saying, well, you know, if he if he doesn't
- 33:32Speaker 1: show a lot of you know, improvement in progress in
- 33:35Speaker 1: year two, you're gonna like you have the guys right there.
- 33:39Speaker 1: It's it's Bill's fault for not putting a structure together.
- 33:42Speaker 1: You know, it won't be because Mac didn't play well. Yeah,
- 33:44Speaker 1: and then bring Billy out and back next year when
- 33:46Speaker 1: you know what I mean. So in some ways that
- 33:48Speaker 1: takes a lot of pressure off Mac Jones. Yeah, you
- 33:51Speaker 1: think it's by design, No, No, I just think it's
- 33:54Speaker 1: a it could be an offshoot of Okay, if he
- 33:56Speaker 1: doesn't play well, a lot of people will say, well,
- 33:58Speaker 1: what do you expect you don't have enough as a coordinator. Yeah,
- 34:01Speaker 1: could couldn't be too. When I've heard this idea of
- 34:04Speaker 1: photo up there that Nick Cayley really is the guy,
- 34:08Speaker 1: and Bill's hesitant to sort of him towards that role
- 34:12Speaker 1: because he doesn't want to lose him right away, so
- 34:15Speaker 1: he'd rather sort of muck around with this than keep
- 34:17Speaker 1: Nick Kayley in the background. And then at some point,
- 34:20Speaker 1: you know, have Nick Kayley be the guy you gotta have.
- 34:23Speaker 1: You gotta practice it now, Like I said, we only
- 34:25Speaker 1: see one practice a week for all we know. For
- 34:27Speaker 1: the rest of the week. Right now, Nick Kayley could
- 34:29Speaker 1: be the one talk to Jones. I don't know, Yeah,
- 34:32Speaker 1: but I would just say, based on what we say
- 34:35Speaker 1: come August, whoever's doing it has to be doing it right,
- 34:38Speaker 1: you know, right? Yeah, that was a Bill White quote
- 34:41Speaker 1: right there. Whoever's doing it has to be doing it. Yeah,
- 34:44Speaker 1: but you know, maybe this is uh, maybe this is
- 34:48Speaker 1: saying the same thing. But his question made me think, like,
- 34:51Speaker 1: are you more concerned with and again this might be
- 34:53Speaker 1: saying the same thing. Are you more concerned with the
- 34:56Speaker 1: offense or mac Jones if that makes sense, like mac
- 34:59Speaker 1: Jones's development or the offense as a whole moving forward
- 35:02Speaker 1: and being about both. Yeah, to me, it's all this.
- 35:05Speaker 1: I agree with Fred, it's all the same, you know,
- 35:07Speaker 1: because I'm not completely sold on mac Jones yet. And
- 35:12Speaker 1: this is why I sort of bring up this, like
- 35:15Speaker 1: what's what's judge it based on what we're seeing and
- 35:18Speaker 1: as opposed to like, let's not just give him all
- 35:20Speaker 1: the you know, the pad ex uses. I think he's
- 35:24Speaker 1: aware too of his like shortcomings, I guess, or his
- 35:27Speaker 1: weaknesses based off his price conference yesterday, I until he
- 35:30Speaker 1: said he's been working on throwing in all types of weather. Yeah,
- 35:34Speaker 1: I caught that. That's a that's a great point, and
- 35:36Speaker 1: that another that was another like sniff moment for me, like,
- 35:39Speaker 1: oh so maybe like the end of the season struggles
- 35:42Speaker 1: did have something to do with the weather, which was
- 35:44Speaker 1: you know, widely pooh pooed in a lot of circles
- 35:47Speaker 1: to it. I mean he's not just like you know,
- 35:49Speaker 1: out training in Arizona, like he's like he mentioned like
- 35:51Speaker 1: I wanted to, you know, practice throwing in the rain.
- 35:54Speaker 1: I thought that was a really interesting thing that he said.
- 35:56Speaker 1: He threw in the off season in a number of
- 35:58Speaker 1: different weather conditions. Here's my thing with Matt, which was smart. Yeah,
- 36:02Speaker 1: I got smart. I thought about this yesterday and I've
- 36:04Speaker 1: been thinking about it to Antarctic with a little extreme. Yeah,
- 36:07Speaker 1: Copley didn't have to go with Shackleton, right. Mac is
- 36:10Speaker 1: is going to be very interesting to me because I
- 36:12Speaker 1: think he does everything the right way. I think he
- 36:15Speaker 1: works really, really really hard. I think he is very
- 36:19Speaker 1: very very very focused on being a great quarterback and
- 36:22Speaker 1: everything that goes into it, he's going to do it.
- 36:25Speaker 1: But does that necessarily mean that he's going to be
- 36:27Speaker 1: a great quarterback? You know, It's like, even if you
- 36:30Speaker 1: do everything right, you put all your efforts and focus
- 36:33Speaker 1: and everything into being a great quarterback, it doesn't necessarily
- 36:36Speaker 1: mean you're going to be a great quarterback. And I
- 36:38Speaker 1: love Mac in terms of everything he says and does
- 36:41Speaker 1: and the way he presents himself as the quarterback of
- 36:44Speaker 1: this team. I just wonder if that can make magic?
- 36:47Speaker 1: Can that make the magic? Can still watch a couple
- 36:50Speaker 1: of those fifteen yards out yesterday that didn't seem like
- 36:52Speaker 1: they got there when they were supposed to, And it's
- 36:54Speaker 1: just natural I get exactly what but but even you know,
- 36:58Speaker 1: even the specific shortcomings, um, you know, I think it's
- 37:01Speaker 1: about you know, like with Brady, it was just when
- 37:04Speaker 1: it's all on the line, you're locked in, your lights
- 37:07Speaker 1: out and you perform, and you know whether or not
- 37:09Speaker 1: you you've got enough zip on it, you can overcome
- 37:12Speaker 1: those things. It's just, you know, sometimes those players I
- 37:15Speaker 1: feel like they're just kind of great and you can't
- 37:17Speaker 1: quite explain it. I find it harder to kind of
- 37:20Speaker 1: put together somebody who is, you know, maybe isn't on
- 37:23Speaker 1: paper or great, but he works so hard that he
- 37:27Speaker 1: becomes great. And that's that's what I'm looking at his
- 37:30Speaker 1: like trajectory. I'll give you another thing that Tamara brought up,
- 37:33Speaker 1: the Jones quote about the weather. Did you find it
- 37:37Speaker 1: odd how many times he mentioned that they were on
- 37:41Speaker 1: the same page yesterday. It's almost like, Okay, this is
- 37:44Speaker 1: the script, Okay, Mac talking points. Here's here's when you
- 37:47Speaker 1: get in trouble. We're all on the same page, Okay,
- 37:50Speaker 1: Like I think it's an issue. I think that they've fred.
- 37:54Speaker 1: You like to say about the time wasted on things
- 37:57Speaker 1: that aren't football related, I think they've wait. I think
- 38:00Speaker 1: there's been time spent worrying about how they're going to
- 38:04Speaker 1: handle the questions about the offensive couter. Yeah. I mean
- 38:07Speaker 1: it was the same with like the coaches press conferences.
- 38:09Speaker 1: They all said the same thing. I like to think
- 38:12Speaker 1: of myself as a football coach. I coach football. I'm
- 38:14Speaker 1: a teacher. I like to teach. Like it was all
- 38:17Speaker 1: the same variation of those words. Yeah, And that's and
- 38:21Speaker 1: that's one of my criticisms of Mac is it's just
- 38:23Speaker 1: open up a little bit, like it just it does
- 38:25Speaker 1: seem kind of force sometimes of how hard he's trying
- 38:29Speaker 1: to stick to what they want him to do, and
- 38:32Speaker 1: you know it comes off a little stiff sometimes. I
- 38:35Speaker 1: know that he's got personality in there, but he's he
- 38:39Speaker 1: is not comfortable yet letting it out. While he is
- 38:42Speaker 1: a New England Patriot here practice, he needs the on
- 38:45Speaker 1: field success first. Yeah, that'll give him his comfort. You know,
- 38:49Speaker 1: he's got to show that, Okay, I can do this yeah,
- 38:52Speaker 1: it's yeah, yeah, And I get what Mike's point is.
- 38:55Speaker 1: I just I'm more with Tamara and the point that
- 38:58Speaker 1: you made about like, when you hear the same sort
- 39:01Speaker 1: of phraseology about the same topics from different people. To me,
- 39:06Speaker 1: that's an orchestrated effort. That means that tells me they
- 39:09Speaker 1: think it's it's it's different. They think it's an issue. Yeah,
- 39:13Speaker 1: because they're they're sort of pre planning to deal with it.
- 39:17Speaker 1: If they thought it was business as usual, you wouldn't
- 39:20Speaker 1: get the same words from everybody. Kendrick Bourne and Mac
- 39:22Speaker 1: Jones sounded very similar yesterday talking about the offensive coordinator
- 39:26Speaker 1: situation Joe Judge in particular. Now, Bourne was a little
- 39:29Speaker 1: bit more forthcoming to Mike's point, and he kind of
- 39:31Speaker 1: wishes Mac would be a little bit more than that.
- 39:34Speaker 1: I wouldn't be surprised if if Kendrick Bourne got a
- 39:36Speaker 1: little bit of a talking to, not that he said
- 39:38Speaker 1: he didn't really say anything, but I thought he was
- 39:40Speaker 1: even like the Troy Brown quote, right, like Troy's work
- 39:44Speaker 1: with wide receivers. Oh really, you know, scary writing that
- 39:48Speaker 1: one down, because I don't think anybody's officially said that,
- 39:50Speaker 1: even though we all kind of thought it. Yeah, maybe
- 39:53Speaker 1: they figure it's better to spend a little bit extra
- 39:55Speaker 1: time getting everyone on the same page ahead of time
- 40:00Speaker 1: than cleaning up contradictory statements after the fact. I'd rather
- 40:03Speaker 1: have everybody on the same page rather than telling me
- 40:05Speaker 1: everybody's on the same page. That just makes and you wonder,
- 40:08Speaker 1: at what point are you making it worse rather than
- 40:12Speaker 1: making it better. I mean, like I said, twelve questions
- 40:14Speaker 1: out or whatever was fourteen yesterday about the same thing, Like, so,
- 40:17Speaker 1: you know, is that what you want? He's out? I mean,
- 40:19Speaker 1: maybe that's what they want. Just let them talk about
- 40:21Speaker 1: the offensive coordinator the whole time, and now we don't
- 40:23Speaker 1: have to discuss max development, the linebackers, the turnover a cornerback,
- 40:28Speaker 1: the old defensive front, like all that stuff is just
- 40:30Speaker 1: kind of by the wayside. Now we're just focused on
- 40:32Speaker 1: who's gonna be calm play. And you talked about you
- 40:34Speaker 1: wrote about, you know, Mac yesterday in his so I
- 40:37Speaker 1: know you were really enveloped in his press conference. It
- 40:40Speaker 1: seemed like he was kind of talking about like, you know,
- 40:42Speaker 1: like Fred, you used the word collaborative, right, like he's
- 40:46Speaker 1: part of it, Like it's gonna learn from me like,
- 40:48Speaker 1: here's here's where I'm gonna say, like the excuse makers,
- 40:51Speaker 1: I agree with like Matt Jones should not have to
- 40:54Speaker 1: worry about being part of this right now as he
- 40:57Speaker 1: enters his second year. He shouldn't be worrying about I'm
- 41:00Speaker 1: not saying you shouldn't have any say in the game plan.
- 41:02Speaker 1: Of course he should. He knows what he wants to
- 41:04Speaker 1: run and how you know you had mentioned about He's
- 41:06Speaker 1: very aware of what he can do and what he
- 41:08Speaker 1: needs to work on, Tamary, you said, and I agree
- 41:10Speaker 1: with that, But I don't think he should have to
- 41:12Speaker 1: worry about well, you know what, Josh isn't here anymore.
- 41:16Speaker 1: I have to step up and I have to be
- 41:17Speaker 1: more of a you know, a thinker in the meeting
- 41:20Speaker 1: rooms when we're coming up with you know, a B
- 41:22Speaker 1: and C. Like, I don't think he should be a
- 41:25Speaker 1: huge part of that in year two. Do you think
- 41:28Speaker 1: it's like similar to Daniel Jones in the sense of
- 41:32Speaker 1: like he's had so many different coaches and he never
- 41:36Speaker 1: it's a big thing. I think it's a big thing
- 41:39Speaker 1: with young quarterbacks that cycle through a lot of different voices.
- 41:43Speaker 1: It can be difficult now, you know, obviously, if you
- 41:46Speaker 1: can play, you'll overcome it. Yeah. Well, this is the
- 41:48Speaker 1: point I made to Paul when we were walking off
- 41:50Speaker 1: the field. I wish I had asked Mac about it,
- 41:52Speaker 1: but I mean, I think this is the first time
- 41:54Speaker 1: he's been the returning starter for a football time. Great
- 41:57Speaker 1: just to think about that in five years at Alabama
- 42:01Speaker 1: and this is, you know, the first time he's probably
- 42:04Speaker 1: ever been the starting quarterback at this stage of the
- 42:06Speaker 1: football season. So it's like, even that stability is kind
- 42:09Speaker 1: of undercut by losing your coordinating against I guess he's
- 42:12Speaker 1: used to it from from one perspective. And he did
- 42:14Speaker 1: say too, like it's part of the business. When the
- 42:16Speaker 1: first question about Josh McDaniels, he's like, it's part of
- 42:19Speaker 1: the business. Like who was ready for that one? Yeah,
- 42:21Speaker 1: he's ready for he had like he just took it
- 42:22Speaker 1: out of the back pocket, is right there. I thought
- 42:25Speaker 1: that one he handled very well. Yeah. I agree. Yeah,
- 42:28Speaker 1: I'm happy. I was really happy at the end he
- 42:30Speaker 1: through really happy for Josh and his family and nailed it. Yeah.
- 42:33Speaker 1: I gave him high mark for that first that first answer.
- 42:36Speaker 1: It was perfect. He didn't stumble at all. Um, but stuff, Yeah,
- 42:41Speaker 1: let's go to the phones. Fidel's in Florida. What's up, Fidel? Hey,
- 42:47Speaker 1: how are you guys doing good? Um? This is based
- 42:52Speaker 1: on the all topic of the coaching and whoever is
- 42:55Speaker 1: calling it plays. I feel like Bill Belichick is ever
- 42:58Speaker 1: watched that movie full of Boston Horrible Bosses? Yes, uh
- 43:02Speaker 1: yeah bosses yea. This is like Bill is playing Kevin's
- 43:06Speaker 1: Baton character where he tells, oh, he said promoting one
- 43:10Speaker 1: of you got the vice president, I'm just gonna absorb
- 43:13Speaker 1: that role and do the vice president's job as well.
- 43:15Speaker 1: And I'm only gonna take half the salary because I'm
- 43:17Speaker 1: a team player. And I think he just wants more
- 43:21Speaker 1: responsibility because he thinks he can do it the best way. Um.
- 43:25Speaker 1: I think it does gonna be a whole show of
- 43:27Speaker 1: it during the preseason, like they be passing the play
- 43:30Speaker 1: calling sheet like as the Baton every coach he's gonna
- 43:33Speaker 1: get call play and then someone's gonna make a spreadsheet
- 43:36Speaker 1: of this person called distant he plays Mayo called five plays,
- 43:39Speaker 1: and I think it's they'll be broken down. I just
- 43:41Speaker 1: think the same thing like my last call was, like, Um,
- 43:46Speaker 1: he just thinks he can do the best and I
- 43:48Speaker 1: don't think he's thinking too much of it. Yeah, I
- 43:52Speaker 1: wonder too, like would we all feel better? And thanks,
- 43:54Speaker 1: it's just the point for discussion, like will we all
- 43:57Speaker 1: feel better if Adam Gase was here? You know, we're
- 43:59Speaker 1: all Adam Gases were I think I think I think
- 44:01Speaker 1: people would. I would, yeah, and I you know, I'm
- 44:05Speaker 1: not telling you that would be better, but but at
- 44:08Speaker 1: least it's a guy who's been an offensive coordinator. I
- 44:11Speaker 1: would feel better. Yes, you know that there's somebody thinking
- 44:14Speaker 1: about just that every day. My major concern might be
- 44:19Speaker 1: completely for not but my concern is what Fred started
- 44:22Speaker 1: off with, like a collaborative doesn't like instill a lot
- 44:27Speaker 1: of confidence, Like there needs to be a guy. What
- 44:29Speaker 1: did you? How did you put it? Like you know
- 44:31Speaker 1: in August the guy, the guy better be doing it?
- 44:34Speaker 1: Like I need there to be one voice, and it
- 44:39Speaker 1: might not be the right one, but at least if
- 44:42Speaker 1: it's a consistent one, I think that you can overcome it.
- 44:45Speaker 1: When you have multiple voices, I think you get that
- 44:48Speaker 1: defensive thing that I think has been an issue the
- 44:51Speaker 1: last two years, like when they're not always sure exactly
- 44:55Speaker 1: what message to go by. And I think that that
- 44:58Speaker 1: can If that happens on offense, I think it's even
- 45:00Speaker 1: worse because, for obvious reasons, offense needs to be coordinated.
- 45:04Speaker 1: Everybody defense reacts to what the offense does. The offense
- 45:08Speaker 1: has to run play, everybody has to be quote on
- 45:11Speaker 1: the same page. Jeffson, Texas, Hey, Jeff, Yeah, Hi guys,
- 45:16Speaker 1: thanks thanks for taking my call. Enjoy the show here.
- 45:20Speaker 1: I have two things I want to talk about. Um.
- 45:23Speaker 1: The first one is, uh, did you see uh that
- 45:26Speaker 1: video that Edelman? Edelman did the Belichick impression. Yeah, well
- 45:32Speaker 1: not the impression, no, but he talked about how um
- 45:36Speaker 1: Belichick roast yeah, you know, the players would they when
- 45:40Speaker 1: they messed up plays? And I thought that was really interesting,
- 45:42Speaker 1: kind of a peek behind the curtain. No, I didn't
- 45:49Speaker 1: see it either, Yeah, okay, he I mean yeah, he
- 45:53Speaker 1: was just talking about how, you know, in front of
- 45:55Speaker 1: the whole team, he would he would keep clicking on
- 45:57Speaker 1: the play like several times, and then he would really
- 46:01Speaker 1: uh tell him you know, Ernie and Ernie and that's funny,
- 46:07Speaker 1: good Jels, funny Jels. Yeah, he just really roasted him.
- 46:11Speaker 1: So I thought that was pretty cool just to hear that.
- 46:14Speaker 1: But the other thing I want to talk about is
- 46:17Speaker 1: um the schedule and I know, I mean just to
- 46:20Speaker 1: have some fun with this because I know we could
- 46:21Speaker 1: really debate this a lot. Is the uh, you know,
- 46:25Speaker 1: wins and lost column? Right because I saw the on
- 46:29Speaker 1: NFL dot com. The Henry McKenna posted what you know,
- 46:33Speaker 1: what he thought was the wins and Losses. I thought
- 46:35Speaker 1: it was pretty interesting and I kind of agree with
- 46:37Speaker 1: it to uh somewhat. But he had he had us
- 46:41Speaker 1: beating the Jets twice, uh, beating Steelers, Bears, Lions, and Vikings.
- 46:46Speaker 1: And then he had us beating the Dolphins twice, which
- 46:48Speaker 1: I don't. I think that'd be more like a split,
- 46:50Speaker 1: so that'd be like, uh, that'd be like seven and ten. Well,
- 46:54Speaker 1: the wild card with the Dolphins is the new head coach.
- 46:57Speaker 1: You know, that's like you probably lose a up of
- 47:00Speaker 1: points because of that. So but yeah, I agree, it's
- 47:03Speaker 1: gonna be tough. They've got they's gonna be a splint
- 47:06Speaker 1: and then like you know, the only other way that
- 47:09Speaker 1: they you know, maybe end up. I mean, obviously this
- 47:11Speaker 1: is just all because we don't know anything. Yeah, anything
- 47:13Speaker 1: could happen, but all the teams that they were lose
- 47:16Speaker 1: through Ravens, Green Bay Browns, Colts, Cardinals, Raiders, Bengals and
- 47:21Speaker 1: twice to the Bills. I mean, is there a you know,
- 47:24Speaker 1: maybe there's one game in there. They're all heavy favorites,
- 47:27Speaker 1: but maybe there's one in there that you know, something
- 47:29Speaker 1: goes wrong. The team's been beat up and you know
- 47:34Speaker 1: they got a major one of the top players is out. Um.
- 47:37Speaker 1: But I mean, of course you can say the same
- 47:39Speaker 1: thing about the take exactly. Yeah, right, yeah, it's there.
- 47:44Speaker 1: Like we've said, there are no pencil din wins. There
- 47:47Speaker 1: wasn't any last year and there will not be any
- 47:49Speaker 1: this year. Every game is gonna be tough. Every game,
- 47:52Speaker 1: I'm concluding the Jets, every game is gonna be tough.
- 47:56Speaker 1: Did a good draft, Yeah, but certainly some you could right. Um, No,
- 48:03Speaker 1: I'm not willing to do that either. I mean I
- 48:05Speaker 1: will pencil in games that they are definitely the underdog,
- 48:08Speaker 1: which are most But I listen, I don't know, you know,
- 48:13Speaker 1: that's the fun. I mean, we talked about all these
- 48:15Speaker 1: and thanks for the call, Jeff, I appreciate it. We
- 48:17Speaker 1: talked about all these people on offense, what happens if
- 48:20Speaker 1: things click with DeVante Parker and Bourne and Myers and
- 48:25Speaker 1: and what happens if the offense just wow, this thing
- 48:30Speaker 1: is working, and now the only thing we're worrying about
- 48:32Speaker 1: is the defense, then that's a whole different thing that
- 48:35Speaker 1: from last year. Because last year when we were worried
- 48:37Speaker 1: about both sides. Yeah, you know, Joe Judge offensive genius, right,
- 48:41Speaker 1: the hot new name and offensive football. But it's not
- 48:44Speaker 1: out of the realm of possibility, I know. I mean, yeah,
- 48:48Speaker 1: as long as you're operating out of the premise that
- 48:50Speaker 1: nothing is out of the realm of possibility. Yeah, yeah,
- 48:52Speaker 1: I think it's too early to the pencil anything in.
- 48:54Speaker 1: I think you can highlight like your marquee games, like
- 48:59Speaker 1: games to watch, but I don't think you can pencil
- 49:01Speaker 1: in like wins and losses. There's too many unknowns in
- 49:05Speaker 1: terms of personnel, like who knows who's going to be
- 49:07Speaker 1: healthy when you come around, who knows who's gonna I'm like,
- 49:09Speaker 1: you know, I think Cleveland was one of those games.
- 49:11Speaker 1: Who knows what John Watson status will be, right, certainly
- 49:14Speaker 1: sounds like he's going to get suspended. I don't know
- 49:16Speaker 1: if he will. You know, if Josh was still here
- 49:18Speaker 1: and you kind of return the whole offense. You added
- 49:21Speaker 1: some good player. I mean, well, at least at least
- 49:23Speaker 1: Parker's proven peace. I mean, you know that was last
- 49:27Speaker 1: year an average offense. I would say, which you know
- 49:29Speaker 1: better or worse? That's what they were. I mean you
- 49:31Speaker 1: would you be looking now if Josh was just just
- 49:34Speaker 1: have Josh back? Is this a potential top ten offense?
- 49:37Speaker 1: I mean, you return in everybody, and I know that
- 49:39Speaker 1: there's issues, but you got some good depth at receiver.
- 49:41Speaker 1: You got a couple tight ends that are now Stevenson
- 49:45Speaker 1: had a good rookie year. He should be better. You
- 49:47Speaker 1: know you've got some depth there. I mean you can
- 49:49Speaker 1: make the argument. I mean, I think the Joe Judge
- 49:51Speaker 1: offensive cornerything casts a large shadow for good reason. But
- 49:55Speaker 1: if circumstances were just a little bit different, you might
- 49:58Speaker 1: be able to say, I'd have to top ten offenses.
- 50:00Speaker 1: Should be honest with you, because I think the drop off,
- 50:04Speaker 1: the precipitous drop off down the stretch, was not a coincidence.
- 50:08Speaker 1: I think it was people figuring out the things that
- 50:10Speaker 1: the Patriots were doing on offense, yes, and the things
- 50:13Speaker 1: the quarterback couldn't couldn't do, And I don't think that
- 50:15Speaker 1: that's a coincidence. When the production all right, I'll tell
- 50:19Speaker 1: you one thing I do know. I'm hungry in the
- 50:21Speaker 1: foods here, so we're gonna take a break. We'll be

- 58:56Speaker 1: I didn't. I completely forgot. He just told me that

- 1:01:01Speaker 1: it's only a trailer, so I'm not holding it out.
- 1:01:03Speaker 1: I just find now that like it's gotta be really
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: big for me to go see it in the theater, right,
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: you know, that's why I said top Gun. Maybe because
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: I'd like to see the planes on the big screen.
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: That might be. Yeah, I saw a Batman in the theater.
- 1:01:17Speaker 1: That's the only movie I've seen since COVID in the
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: theater worth it? Yeah, oh yeah, you kind of reevaluate
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: what it takes to go to a theater. I don't
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: know if that was if COVID just exacerbated that situation,
- 1:01:30Speaker 1: but like, why would you go watch like an indie
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: drama at the theater? Right? Like? Every I mean everyone's
- 1:01:37Speaker 1: got a sixty inch TV, you know with surround sound.
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: Like why don't they start doing all right season one
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: Stranger things. We're gonna do the whole thing here in
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: the theater and make it a party, And like I
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: think they start to need to get creative to get
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: people the theater. Not a bad idea like these movies
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: or these shows that have these cult followings or fan
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: follow anybody together have like watch part he's in theaters.
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: That's a good idea, dude, all right, I love it
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: does have a Hollywood back, does you know? But I
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: mean Netflix, like can't Netflix like? I mean, you know,
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: I used to go to the Arc Light in Sherman Oaks.
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: Was you know great. It's one of those like you
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: got to reserve a seat, but it's very nice. You
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: can also drink there. Um. I think they went out
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: of business there, But you know it, couldn't Netflix go
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: in and buy a theater and say, all right, you know,
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: we can premiere movies here, we can do parties here,
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: we can, like I said, do Stranger Things or things
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: like that, you know, certain series. I'm sure people. The
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: whole point of streaming, though, is to stay home. I know, hey,
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: and nobody loves staying home more than me. But but
- 1:02:35Speaker 1: but if you could go with a bunch of like
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: minded nerves there, No, that's the point. You don't debut
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: new shows. But once the show has a following, like
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: Game of Thrones or Sopranos or any of these shows
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: that like. After the show, people go on the fan
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: forums that be in a community. I think there's legs
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: for an idea like that to get like minded people
- 1:02:55Speaker 1: and have a party. And that's that place. Um, I
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: think it's Chunky's up in haverl Everyky Cheese. No, Chunky's.
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: It's a movie theater. But it's kind of like overWe
- 1:03:06Speaker 1: I hear Chunky, and I like, I start seeing red
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: from seventh grade. I'm like, who's Chunky? You're Chunky? You finished?
- 1:03:14Speaker 1: So it's kind of like what you said, you have.
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: You know, there are tables more so than like theater seats,
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: and they'll like in the summer they'll play Jaws yea,
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: and they have a special and they promote it and
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: then you know, people go and it's again like minded
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: nerds that that love and I you know, the kids
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: have gone because they love Jaws, and we go, you sit,
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: you have you know, burger and fries, and you watch
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: Jaws and everybody really gets into the movie. You know,
- 1:03:36Speaker 1: obviously there's nobody that's watching it. It's never seen it, right,
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: it's like that kind of fan forum thing that you're
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: talking about. They did like season one Mandalorian in a
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: theater and made it. You know, it's not just you're
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: going to see I mean, granted, how cool. I mean
- 1:03:49Speaker 1: we watched that on a small screen, but that would
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: translate to the big screen. Amazing. I'd love to rewatch
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: that in a big theater with a bunch especially you
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: know what's coming. And then you have like one of
- 1:03:57Speaker 1: the like you know, sub role acts the show up
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: and you know, introduce the show and yeah, Carl Weathers
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: is here. Everybody, Thanks for coming, folks, you know, yeah,
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: all right, there you go. There's no more family movie nights,
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: you know. Now it's an event, that's that's all. And
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: that's what That leads to more events in the movies, right,
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: not just about the movie, but but about the crowd too, almost,
- 1:04:18Speaker 1: you know, like going to a Patriots game and everyone
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: dresses up, everybody gets in there, they got their lightsaber.
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: Paul would love it. Yeah, what are we doing here?
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: We're gonna just drop the kids off? Right, Yeah, you're
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: being on the Jaws one though. We could be you hardy,
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: we could I told you I've done. We could guess
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: host a panel of some sort of Jaws trivia and
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: Paul would show up at Miracle on Ice with his whistle,
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: and then he'd be at the concession booth with the
- 1:04:44Speaker 1: diet pepsis again again, and they just keep giving him
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: diet pepsis. Pretty sure they do at Newport Beach, the
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: Premier Joys out in the ocean, you float in the water.
- 1:04:54Speaker 1: I've heard, I've heard about that. I'm not necessarily in that.
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: Yeah that that that would not fly with me away nice?
- 1:05:01Speaker 1: All right, well, we got something going. Maybe we can
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: do it at Patriot Place. Let's do it. Let's do it,
- 1:05:06Speaker 1: could we do Let's do uh, let's do all six
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: of the three Games to Glory, you know or something,
- 1:05:11Speaker 1: maybe the three Highlight games. How we're out on the patients.
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: It's gotta be Star Wars. Yeah, we're outside of football
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: right now. It's like, you know, dudes, Jemmy Thorpe. All right,
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: let's go to the a sticking outline Christians in LA.
- 1:05:32Speaker 1: What's up, Christian? Hey you guys, Good morning to you
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: and always nice to talk to you guys. So you know,
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: you guys are talking about what they do. On May
- 1:05:41Speaker 1: the fourth, the most movie theaters around the country will
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: have every Star Wars episode that you know that place
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: played in the in the theaters so fans could come
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: in dress up like, you know, whatever they want to Yeah,
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: for the day. Yeah, so they're doing the day they conview. Well,
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: give me the stream ones, give me the ones I
- 1:06:01Speaker 1: haven't seen a million times on the big street. We
- 1:06:03Speaker 1: also see the man. Yeah, we're also including like stuff
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: in on TV now, like we just talk about Stranger
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: Things and Mandalorian and you know, I just got finished
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: watching Um Moon Night. You know, I think that's a
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: little early yet for this type of concept. But you know,
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: stuff you you're you're used to seeing on TV, and
- 1:06:21Speaker 1: now I get to see it on the big screen
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: with people, with a bunch of people who love it
- 1:06:25Speaker 1: as much as I do. I think that's at Scott Legs. Yeah.
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: Well so I don't know if you guys know what
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: I did for a living now I'm in tech book
- 1:06:33Speaker 1: And further, I was a executive producer over in the
- 1:06:36Speaker 1: studio system. And so for that to happen, there's so
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: much red tape contracts and licensing and all this kind
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: of stuff just to make something like that happen. So realistically,
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: yes it could, but it would be really, really really
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: half of the I think Disney could do it, though
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: they the theater a blank and on the name right
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: on Hollywood across from Man's that I think Disney actually
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: even owned, So like, couldn't they just so stay own
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: theater stuff? Yeah? Yeah, I don't know, But like he said,
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: like what's in the writer's contract about distribution where it
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: can be seen and all that stuff? You know? So
- 1:07:08Speaker 1: I mean these after conte and all that kind of
- 1:07:11Speaker 1: stuff that goes into it. I know they did do
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: Stranger things. He's in one at the same theater that
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: they do Rocky Horror Picture Show here in LA. They
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: did that around Halloween the New Arts time, you know,
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: was it the New Art but that was a special
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: event New Art Art Theater maybe yeah, yeah, Okay, Hey,
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: so it does have leg It just needs to be
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: worked out. So we need a lawyer. We need a
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: lawyer in charge of it. It would be a whole
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: new department tell the truth. That's the way the system worked. Okay,
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: all right, thanks Christian. Yeah, because the bottom line is
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: now you're you know, besides, you know the subscription fees
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: that these companies are now you're making money off of
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: this content. Where does that money go? But but we're
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: just gonna want off it, like this is gonna be
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: We're not not releasing it in theaters were one time,
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: but still it's it's like you can't you know, even now,
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: you can't reserve a theater and show NFL on Sunday.
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: You can't do that. You're not allowed to. So I've
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: heard on me a little disclaimer. Yeah before you know,
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: because it's a new revenue stream, where does that revenue go?
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: Who gets to share it? Yeah? You know, you know
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: you're making money off of our intellectual property. I get that. Yeah,
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: you know. Well, with the way that theaters are going
- 1:08:28Speaker 1: under now, you'd think that they would figure out a
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: deal and figure it out that action. Yeah, Williams and philam,
- 1:08:34Speaker 1: what's up? William Fred? What's going on? Oh? You know,
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: we're just holding down the ford here? You on it down? Okay.
- 1:08:45Speaker 1: My question is, um, with so much I guess, so
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: much uncertainty around around a team whatnot? Um, I guess
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: you say my frienspoo, the team is do you think
- 1:08:55Speaker 1: Mac has enough around him? I mean in terms of
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: I guess talent and basically weapons or whatever, but just
- 1:09:02Speaker 1: one though, do you think they have enough around him?
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: On May twenty fourth, twenty twenty two, I am saying
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: yes at this moment, I am saying, yes, he has
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: enough pieces around him to succeed. I think it's a
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: pretty good rab piece. I mean, I don't think that
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: they have Do they have that number one elite guy?
- 1:09:17Speaker 1: Probably not, But I think that they have some good
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: depth to a point where they've got a couple of
- 1:09:21Speaker 1: good tight ends, They've got four or five receivers that
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: can play. Can they offensively employ all of those pieces
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: together to stress defenses and really, you know, take teams
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: out of that comfort factor that they had apparently last
- 1:09:35Speaker 1: year like that. That's what my question is. But I
- 1:09:37Speaker 1: think I think they've got some good pieces there. I mean,
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: like I said earlier, I think if Josh was back,
- 1:09:41Speaker 1: you would be saying this has got to take a
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: big league forward. We've only added. Yeah, what I want
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: to see, you know, like last year, I harp on it,
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: but I've never heard a team say of the Patriots
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: they were easy to defend until last year. That has
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: to stop. So can they use these pieces in such
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: a way that, like you said, stresses defense, gives the
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: matchup problems all that, And then the second thing is
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: they got to just trust these guys, And you know
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: that's whether it's Mac or Joe Judge or whoever guy
- 1:10:09Speaker 1: drops the ball, go back to them, you know, don't
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: don't don't limit your offense to you know, Leonard Myers,
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: not Leonard Myers. Uh, you know Myers And we used
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: to have a guy named Leonard Myers in the running game.
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: You know, spread it out. Let people make mistakes, especially
- 1:10:26Speaker 1: early in the in the season, and and just go
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: with it, have faith and just keep working at it. Yeah,
- 1:10:31Speaker 1: and you've got some depth. Can you get Kendrick Bourne
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: lined up on their fourth cornerback? Can you you know,
- 1:10:36Speaker 1: can you exploit that way to get some of your
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: better players where maybe our number one verse their number
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: one there, they got us there, their cornerback's gonna shut
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: down Parker on the outside. But you know, can we
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: do enough to you know, if it's Thornton polling coverage,
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: can we do enough to get favorable matchups for John H.
- 1:10:51Speaker 1: Smith or Hunter Henry or Kendrick Bourne or Jacobi Myers down.
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: It's all about Mac Jones. I think they were easy
- 1:10:57Speaker 1: to defend last year because of Mac Jones, because I
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: think those receivers. I think Mike is right. I don't
- 1:11:02Speaker 1: think there's a start up among them, but they're okay, yeah, no, no, no,
- 1:11:06Speaker 1: And I was just gonna say, and then it comes
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: down to Mac recognizing what's going on out there and
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: just you know, pulling the trigger and making it happen
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: and being on time and having faith. You know, it's
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: it's all of the above. But I do think your question, William,
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: I do think there are the pieces right now on
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: this team for Mac Jones and the offense to be successful. Yeah. Yeah,
- 1:11:30Speaker 1: then I'm good enough with them for I just want
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: to ask question. That's it. So look, I've been calling
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: you for them for years and now for the longest.
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: How do I treat out your guys? You know if
- 1:11:38Speaker 1: I were wanted, you know, to do that. Oh you
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: don't need to do that. Just keep just keep listening. Yeah,
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: just you just listen. That's just keep listening. That's all
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: we ask. But you can also just email Matt a
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: web radio at pagerst a credit card. But no, seriously,
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: we're listening. Is more than enough. Thanks, William, appreciate the thought.
- 1:12:00Speaker 1: Very nice of you, William, Like, who ate two orders
- 1:12:03Speaker 1: of chicken fingers and a side of meatballs? But yeah,
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: I mean I guess Taekwon to me, is a big
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: X factor in the whole improvement thing. I don't expect
- 1:12:17Speaker 1: Tae Kwon Thorton to be a big part of the
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: offense in his rookie year. Now, maybe I'll be wrong,
- 1:12:22Speaker 1: and maybe he will be, but otherwise you're basically dealing
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: with the same personnel. You add DeVante Parker. I think
- 1:12:31Speaker 1: that's a big ad. Okay, I don't. I think it's
- 1:12:33Speaker 1: an ad, but I don't think it's huge. Disagree. I
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: think he's going to replace a guy that you had
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: last year and probably be a similar like you're gonna
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: put a different kind. I think he's better on the
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: outside than Agilore as an example. Okay, So I think
- 1:12:47Speaker 1: you might have a chance that he's gonna win a
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: couple of fifty fifty balls down the sideline for you
- 1:12:52Speaker 1: that Aglo didn't do draw some penalties for you last year.
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: I don't know how many of that he's gonna I
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: don't think he's I think it's a big addition, okay,
- 1:12:59Speaker 1: But but you've got to take someone away like it's
- 1:13:02Speaker 1: it's easy to sit there and say, well, they have five,
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: but you don't need You don't have five guys out
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: there at once. Yeah, So if Parker is better than
- 1:13:09Speaker 1: Agila last year, then your offense is better because he's
- 1:13:12Speaker 1: probably replacing Agilare do you know what I'm saying. Yeah,
- 1:13:15Speaker 1: that would be good. I think if he if he
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: ends up being a better player. Um, do you get
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: as much out of Myers next this this year as
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: you did last year? Or does the offense change and
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: maybe his role as smaller? Maybe Agil goes in the
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: slide of his take some of his snaps away. Um.
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: The offensive line to me is very much a question mark.
- 1:13:36Speaker 1: I think you've lost personnel off your offensive line in
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: your own time. It remains to be seen if it's better.
- 1:13:43Speaker 1: But I'm just like the whole like they've they've made
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: like I know, like to like snap back at Douce
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: a little bit like if Josh was here. They've added
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: DeVante Parker. So like, I don't know how much better
- 1:13:56Speaker 1: the offense would be because I'm very encouraged that they
- 1:13:59Speaker 1: brought back Trent Brown. Um. You know, of course he
- 1:14:02Speaker 1: has to stay healthy, but I'm encouraged that they I
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: know that, but that's what they had last year, I know,
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: And they've lost two starters off of what they had
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: when he wasn't in. We saw the drop off and
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: did we Yeah, we did, and we saw it picked
- 1:14:15Speaker 1: up when he came back. Okay, well what about the guards?
- 1:14:17Speaker 1: Why are we ignoring it? We just the first offense
- 1:14:21Speaker 1: was worse. At the end of the year. When Trent
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: Brown came back, we just invested he was part of it.
- 1:14:24Speaker 1: We just invested a first round pick in a guard.
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: I'm very excited about that. Okay, so again, maybe you're better.
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: That remains to be I'll end with the same comment
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: I made at the beginning. It remains to be seen.
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: You've lost two starts. On May twenty fourth, I'm saying
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: they've got the pieces. Now I have the courage to
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: say that. But the pieces, and you know, that is
- 1:14:45Speaker 1: what I'm saying. Some people are I think is very
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: similar to what it was last year. I'm not afraid
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: to say that. I don't think that's a controversial. You know,
- 1:14:53Speaker 1: I'm willing to go out on a limb and say
- 1:14:55Speaker 1: that if mac Jones is better, your offense will be better. Okay,
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: the personnel around him is really unchanged. There's a couple
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: of pieces that are in and out, and I think
- 1:15:03Speaker 1: they're washes like I think cole Strange will be tech.
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: I think I don't. I don't think that cole Strange
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: will be the reason why the offensive line takes a
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: step forward or back. I think there's something also be
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: said about second year jump for free agents, which were
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: there many on this team. I think that's what you're
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: relying on. I'm saying only above, it's a lot of
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: these If eighty percent of them hit, we're gonna be
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: a better offense than we were last And you would
- 1:15:27Speaker 1: also be in a group of one of teams that
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: that has had that happened to him. Eighty percent of
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: the guys are going to be better in the year two. Well,
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: I think for me, I think the offensive line's just health.
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: I think they'll be if if if the two tackles
- 1:15:40Speaker 1: stay healthy, it's it's gonna be what it's gonna be.
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: You know, that's average everything, Like I mean, people forget that,
- 1:15:48Speaker 1: like down the stretch last year, Trent Brown was part
- 1:15:50Speaker 1: of the problem. Like go back to that was the
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: Indianapolis game that the guy ran right by him or
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: might have been a Buffalo. What are the Buffalo games? Like?
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: He was not great when he plays, he's not great.
- 1:16:02Speaker 1: He's okay. Well, I like that he's here at least
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: puts him ahead of Win. To Mike's point, you know,
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: earlier in the show, like I'd like to see Isaiah
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: Wynn out there and at least I know he's healthy.
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: Now like with him not there, it leads me to
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: wonder is it health related? Is he you know, protecting himself?
- 1:16:21Speaker 1: Why why is he not here? He needs to get over? Um,
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: Destiny is in Maryland? What's up, Destiny? Hey, this is
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: my first time calling in. Actually, Um, I actually started
- 1:16:33Speaker 1: listening to you guys last year off season, and I
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: just wanted to say, great job that you guys do.
- 1:16:40Speaker 1: And I have two questions. Well, one statement, Um, have
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: you guys ever watched The Lincoln Lawyers, the one with
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: Matthew McConaughey. I don't think so. No, Oh, my wife's
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: watching that right now. Actually, oh it's a it's on
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: right now. No. Then I definitely have never seen. Yeah,
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: there's a show. There's a show that they guess they
- 1:16:59Speaker 1: took it from. All right, that's that's what she's Yeah,
- 1:17:02Speaker 1: it's actually really good. Okay. My actual question was, um,
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: I know, um the blog you guys said Jack Jones
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: was was doing pop return what happens to Marcus Jones
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: for at least I know, Okay, it's not like the
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: greatest thing, but yeah, yeah he was. I mean, I'm struggling.
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: He was not returning any punts. But Mike reminded me
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: during practice yesterday that he did have surgery on both shoulders. Um,
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: so he was a little limited. He wasn't really involved
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: in much. I think he was more like stretched, go
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: down to the lower field. If that was a regular
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: I think Jim McBride wrote it this way in the paper, say,
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: if that were a regular season practice, he would have
- 1:17:45Speaker 1: been listed as limited. Like James White, Jabrill Peppers out
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: they were out there, but they're not doing the team
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: portion stuff. I don't think Marcus Jones would be fully
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: ready to go full board if this were a regular
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: season I mean, just to point out Bledsoe and mcgron,
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: we're both kind of around last year during this same
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: kind of thing, and neither of them even played last year.
- 1:18:08Speaker 1: So not to say that that's what Mark and Jones is,
- 1:18:10Speaker 1: but there's just there's some there's some gray area with
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: these guys and this point of the But yeah, I'm Destiny.
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: I'm expecting to see Marcus Jones um in the mix
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: for a return job. Oh yeah, absolute should be his. Yeah,
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: all right, thanks Destiny. I wasn't expecting a fella. I
- 1:18:28Speaker 1: was waiting to put our hands together. Yeah, because we
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: were talking about renting out theaters and I thought Destiny
- 1:18:32Speaker 1: was McCall say, you know you could have strippers, you know,
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: but wow? Yeah, Um, Todd's right, calling in from North Carolina.
- 1:18:40Speaker 1: I hate Todd. Hey, guys, this interesting show so far.
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: Oh thank interesting, it's over. I'm kind of trying to follow,
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: but hey, I don't have the background in filmology to be, oh,
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: you know, follow someone what you guys you're talking about?
- 1:18:58Speaker 1: My question is I'm scared watching TV shows. I was thinking,
- 1:19:01Speaker 1: what what was our team speed like for our safeties
- 1:19:06Speaker 1: and our linebackers, like the people who were here but
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: not necessarily playing what we're What did we have for
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: teams eat from previous before this year, before the draft,
- 1:19:16Speaker 1: like his ouch, somebody that's got a top end speed
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: like who who on our team displays they don't know?
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: I mean supposedly is fast? Um? And then this guy
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: Cameron mcgron is supposedly these guys don't have that. They
- 1:19:32Speaker 1: don't have that reputation as being that mcgron No, I
- 1:19:36Speaker 1: thought he did, no that. I thought he made it
- 1:19:39Speaker 1: up with his size with speed. Yeah, I think he's
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: faster than like Dante Hi Tom. Yeah, but he's not
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: as fast as like Jamie Collins. Well, Jimmy Collins a freak, right, Yeah, that,
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: but that's what we're talking about, Okay. I mean, I
- 1:19:51Speaker 1: don't think there really was anybody who I asked. I agree, Mike,
- 1:19:54Speaker 1: you know that that was somewhat by design. I mean,
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: I do think Mac mac wilson, I thought moved pretty
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: well as quicker. Yeah, he thinks he's smaller quicker. I
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: think he's more of a coverage guy that might be
- 1:20:04Speaker 1: able to be a fifer kind of thing, might be
- 1:20:06Speaker 1: able to help out in that regard. Yeah. Yeah. So
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: my last point is, do you think they're going to
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: try to focus more on having past defenders back there
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: and maybe being a little lighter to try to utilize
- 1:20:20Speaker 1: what's beat to compete with some of the guys like
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: they got in Miami and of course always when we
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: play against teams like Kansas City and stuff like that,
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: or they are they going to still try to get
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: some thumpers in there to try to stop the first
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: down running off. I mean, okay, I mean I think,
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: you know, I think ideally you have a little stable
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: of guys that can play different styles. I mean I
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: think that you know that early Dynasty team, like we
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: said Fifer, I mean, you know Bruski, he ran pretty well,
- 1:20:44Speaker 1: but you know, you just had a good mix of guys.
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: I think that's what the goal is not to be.
- 1:20:48Speaker 1: All right, we have all small linebackers now and everybody's fast. Like,
- 1:20:51Speaker 1: I still think you needed you want Bentley, Like you know,
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: I don't think he needs to be an every down linebacker,
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: but I think that there's certainly use for him. Well,
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: I think today's game, if you are just a small team,
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: there are teams that are going to be able to
- 1:21:04Speaker 1: take advantage of you. I think Bill will always be
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: a game plan guy no matter what. But the question is,
- 1:21:10Speaker 1: and I think it's a good one in today's NFL,
- 1:21:14Speaker 1: how much are you giving up if you're mostly smaller,
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: faster defense than having those big guys up front. And
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: can you get by with having a couple of guys
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: So when you come up against Derek Henry, you know,
- 1:21:28Speaker 1: you can at least guys in Yeah, it's completely adecdotal.
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: I would say that what you're looking for is a combination.
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: It's like Tampa Bay has tiny linebackers, but they have
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: mammoth guys online like and you know, Sue has been
- 1:21:45Speaker 1: there the last couple of years. So I don't think
- 1:21:47Speaker 1: people have been able to abuse them running the ball, right,
- 1:21:50Speaker 1: you know, despite the fact that it's Devin White and
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: Levante David, they're not huge linebackers, right. So's so maybe
- 1:21:56Speaker 1: in today's NFL, like I remember, you know, back in
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: the Pittsburgh Steelers of the eighties nineties, they'd have these
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: big linebackers that were also free. They could they were fast,
- 1:22:05Speaker 1: you know for their size. But today's game, maybe you
- 1:22:08Speaker 1: can get by with smaller linebackers as long as you
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: have you know, a bigger front. That's and that's that
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: was where I was going next as Paul like walked
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: us into and I thought it was great. I mean
- 1:22:17Speaker 1: that's you know, how do you feel do you feel
- 1:22:18Speaker 1: that we got Vida Vey? That's that's the concern, Like
- 1:22:22Speaker 1: these are older guys, god chaw, you know, like, are
- 1:22:25Speaker 1: those guys going to be able to keep ray Kwa, McMillan,
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: and mac wilson clean so that they can make plays.
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: That's why I would rather go with the smaller, more
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: athletic guys because I feel like I feel like the
- 1:22:35Speaker 1: run stopping is going to be a problem again, Yeah,
- 1:22:37Speaker 1: because I don't think they have the bulk up front
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: to to deal with it. Uh. You know the three
- 1:22:43Speaker 1: times a year that you lose a game because the
- 1:22:45Speaker 1: other team you know, you know, or you got in
- 1:22:47Speaker 1: trouble in the game because the other team ran the ball, okay, right,
- 1:22:50Speaker 1: you know, you have to live with it. I don't
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: think that most teams want to win that way. You know, Tennessee,
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: does you know for sure? You know last year Cleveland
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: try to do it, even ran for a million yards
- 1:23:01Speaker 1: against them, couldn't score any points. I think you have
- 1:23:04Speaker 1: to you have to try. I'm not suggesting that you
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: just sit there and say, well, we're gonna let you
- 1:23:10Speaker 1: run for two hundred yards, Well we'll be okay. No,
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: like the Miami game, that was a game that couldn't
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: stop the run against a team that didn't really run
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: the ball all that well. That last game of the year,
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: remember how well they ran the ball mic so yeah,
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: that's a problem when you can't stop the run at all.
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: I just I think that if I have to make
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: that choice, I'm looking if mac Wilson can be more
- 1:23:31Speaker 1: of a presence, you know, stopping Devin's singletary from making
- 1:23:35Speaker 1: all of those plays, because he made a lot of
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: plays in those two games, the last two Buffalo games
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: as a receiver. You know, maybe he can be better
- 1:23:44Speaker 1: than high Tower, you know, tracking these guys down and
- 1:23:47Speaker 1: instead of an eight yard game, it's a four yard
- 1:23:49Speaker 1: game on one of those little swing passes. I'll take
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: that swap if that can be. It's a hard thing
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: to do. It's a hard thing to do it that way,
- 1:23:56Speaker 1: I think. And I really think this is kind of
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: the nuts and bolts right now of you know, why
- 1:24:01Speaker 1: the Patriots have, you know, just haven't been able to
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: hit that next level post Brady and and I mean,
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: I just I think it's interesting, totally right about the
- 1:24:08Speaker 1: run defense. And at the same time, you look at
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: the attention they've paid to their own running game and
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: how they've you know, drafted to running backs. They took
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: Stevenson last year. I know they're quote unquote moving away
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: from the fullback. Maybe that's true. Maybe not, but you know,
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: it seemed like on one side of the ball, they're like,
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: you know, we really need to be able to run
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: the ball, And the other side of the ball, they're like,
- 1:24:28Speaker 1: I don't know, we'll kind of figure it out when
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: we get there with the with the run they don't.
- 1:24:31Speaker 1: I agree, it's kind of funny. That's weird. It is there.
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: It's a funny dichotomy. But I do think that you're
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: seeing a little bit. And I just wonder if they're
- 1:24:38Speaker 1: playing to their strengths on both sides, you know, maybe
- 1:24:41Speaker 1: you know, we have to try to figure out how
- 1:24:43Speaker 1: to better handle the pass on defense, and we have
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: to figure out how to run the ball, because I
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: don't think that they can feel comfortable dropping back forty
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: five times a game, because you really need you need both.
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: And if you're gonna be a game plan offen defense,
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: how do you get to the game and you realize, Wow,
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: we don't have this piece of it, you know, And again,
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: I think the defensive front is where a lot of
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: this stuff is gonna live or die. How well they
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: play along the line of scrimmage and on the edges,
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: and you know, whether these guys can get there and
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: make plays or not. It's just going to depend on
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: the guys up front making plays. I mean, Seymour will
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: fork those guys. You still have big linebackers. They still
- 1:25:17Speaker 1: made plays. It didn't matter that they might not have
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: been the fastest linebacker group. They just they dominated with
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: those guys. But a whole different, a whole whole different. No,
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: it's schematically, And the other thing is whatever you decide,
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: you know, whatever you decide you want to try to be.
- 1:25:31Speaker 1: If you're good at it, you can succeed. Like there's
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: a lot of things that people would say you can't
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: win that way. You know, we had a chance that
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: I'll give you a little previo. Matt no Socks and
- 1:25:41Speaker 1: I talked to Ernie Adams yesterday for our latest podcast,
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: Pats from the Past podcast. So you know, one of
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: the things Ernie talked about was, you know there's still
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: you know, like Baltimore. You know there's still teams that
- 1:25:51Speaker 1: want to get physically the lineup and run the ball.
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: And I think that again, I think that in the
- 1:25:58Speaker 1: NFL today, you need to be able to throw the
- 1:26:00Speaker 1: ball and put points on the board. Baltimore runs the
- 1:26:03Speaker 1: ball so well they were able to score a lot
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: of points with the way they do it and having
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: their quarterback be you know, sort of a unicorn the
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: way he runs and throws, and it works. It's not conventional,
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: but it works for them now. I would also argue
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: that they haven't quite gotten over the hump yet doing
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: it that way. But I don't like a couple of
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: years ago when they were the number one seed, they
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: had a good enough team to win the Super Bowl,
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: they weren't probably emotionally ready for the spot and they lost.
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: But that's an example of just because you're not doing
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: it like everybody else does, but you have to have
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: that unicorn where you have to be able to be
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: really good at it, you know, Ernie said, you know,
- 1:26:39Speaker 1: you still need to be able to stop the run
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: and do all these kinds of things, and you have
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: to be strong at it. All starts up front. Start well.
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: I think the worst offensive line in football last year
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: was in the Super Bowl in Cincinnati. The worst, you know,
- 1:26:53Speaker 1: the year before, Kansas City was the worst offensive line
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: in football. They were in the Super Bowl. So if
- 1:26:59Speaker 1: you're really good at what you want to do, you
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: can still succeed. It's not ideal you have to work
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: around it. I mean, not every team has like you know,
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: Mike and Irelake. Yeah, you gotta be better doing this, Togeter.
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: Not every team has all bases covered, right, that's the
- 1:27:14Speaker 1: two thousand and four Patriots. It's rare, right, you know,
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: there was nothing the two thousand and four Patriots couldn't
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: do right. They could beach you anyway that that that
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: you wanted to get beaten. Trent writes in He's from
- 1:27:26Speaker 1: Sylvan Lake, Alberta. With Josh McDaniel's leaving and taking some
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: brain power with him to Vegas, does this mean the
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: Patriots offense will be considerably easier to pick up for players?
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: In the past, the offense has been compared to calculus.
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: With new offensive coaching staff coming in, should we expect
- 1:27:43Speaker 1: more of a remedial offense. If that's the case, maybe
- 1:27:46Speaker 1: the players will be able to play faster without overthinking
- 1:27:49Speaker 1: the route running or protection assignments. Do you guys buy
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: into this theory? Could this be a major help for
- 1:27:55Speaker 1: not only new players but John Smith types as well.
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: Should we be expecting a big year to jump from Smith?
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: I don't. I don't think so. I think that I
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: think that the core parts of this offense that make
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: it kind of difficult for people, I think will will
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: still remain. I mean, I think they might lean more
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: into certain other avenues, but I think the route adjustments
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: after the snap, those things, being able to read the defense,
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: being on the same page with the quarterback. I think
- 1:28:22Speaker 1: all those things are going to stay. They're not going
- 1:28:24Speaker 1: to all of a sudden go back to an offense
- 1:28:26Speaker 1: where it's just a number system and you run your
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: route and if it's not open, it's not open. I
- 1:28:30Speaker 1: think once you get to a point where you have
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: an offense that can adjust to what the defense does,
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: I don't know how you go back the other way.
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: I mean, and certainly testing when it's not being as
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: successful as it was. But I don't think that part's
- 1:28:42Speaker 1: going to change. And I didn't hear much from players
- 1:28:44Speaker 1: last year. You know, the newcomers complaining about not understanding
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: you know this. Cam Newton is the one who used
- 1:28:51Speaker 1: the calculus word, right, It's like calculus. I know they
- 1:28:53Speaker 1: change the offense when I was gone for a week.
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: You know this, you know, much simpler offense. Denty and
- 1:29:00Speaker 1: Carolina didn't seem to improve his play, So I think
- 1:29:02Speaker 1: that was a Cam Newton issue. Long way of saying,
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: you listen to guys like Christian Fourier talk about the offense,
- 1:29:09Speaker 1: and I think he makes a good He made a
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: good point yesterday, like what makes the Patriots offense more
- 1:29:15Speaker 1: challenging than some others was not the offense itself. He
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: found it very easy to learn the offense. It was Brady. Yes,
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: it was Brady's demanding perfection, you know, and that was
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: obviously the reason why he was so good. But it
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: also forced some guys to not be able to do it.
- 1:29:35Speaker 1: And we know the names, you know, the Joey Galloways
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: and the Ocho Cinkos and you know some of these
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: other guys that just couldn't seem to get up to speed.
- 1:29:44Speaker 1: But I don't like, I don't remember last year people saying,
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: you know, you know, Agilo talked about wanting to play faster,
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: like feeling more comfortable. That just comes with more comfort,
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: but not because yeah, he just got here. So yeah,
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: it takes a little time. You're gonna know the offense
- 1:30:02Speaker 1: better in year two than you did in year one.
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: Second year jump, that's right. So him and Smith you're
- 1:30:06Speaker 1: up to eight percent, that's right there. You go, even
- 1:30:09Speaker 1: though Mike flatly said no, I don't think so. For
- 1:30:11Speaker 1: General Ramones and Tampa. Uh, Fred, we're out of Edelman jerseys.
- 1:30:19Speaker 1: Can you get something going with those? I need a
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: large I guess he's assumed talking about the pro shop
- 1:30:24Speaker 1: that's supply chain. Huh. Two. Can the Newerish listeners get
- 1:30:29Speaker 1: even some vague background on who he shall not be
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: named was, I don't know who it is. He was
- 1:30:37Speaker 1: a guy who we hired back in like I don't know,
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: oh six oh seven ish, somewhere in that area. Uh.
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: He came in here a very passionate football fan. Um.
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: He was much more interested in gambling than anything else. Um.
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: And he was he was sort of volatile, shall we say.
- 1:30:57Speaker 1: When he worked for us, then he left to go
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: work for one of those gambling sites in Vegas. In Vegas,
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: and one of the first things he did at his
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: new place of employment was absolutely a viscerate our entire
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: operation organization, took shots at Bill Belichick, Teddy Bruski, Mike
- 1:31:16Speaker 1: Rabel h left no stone unttermed, just completely killed everybody
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: and got us in some trouble. And that's why we
- 1:31:23Speaker 1: refer to him as that. And it wasn't even true stuff.
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: Most of it was completely made up. Yeah, I mean
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: it's like, yeah, like, what are you doing dude? Yeah,
- 1:31:33Speaker 1: he just like torched himself and then he tried to apologize. Afterwards.
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: He reached out to Fred a little bit and you know,
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: talked about some of the things he was going through
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: and we weren't buying. Yeah, I said, I still see
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: him once in a while on the Twitter machine. I said,
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: you're either stupid or you're a liar. Either way, I'm done. Yeah,
- 1:31:50Speaker 1: you know yourself. Well, that was basically it not a
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: quality hire by Fred. He was a rising star though.
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: I mean, people really liked it. Was funny. He was
- 1:32:01Speaker 1: absolutely funny. I'll be the first to admit it. I
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: got along with them. Well, like I he cracked me up. Now,
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: is this when you were allowed to gamble? No no,
- 1:32:09Speaker 1: no, no no no no no no no. We never can
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: go six oh seven. Yeah. He in his previous life
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: I think maybe gotten in debt gambling. Well, I think
- 1:32:18Speaker 1: he came from a family that had some issues in
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: that regard. Cool, careful, Oh really, Okay. He wrote a
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: huge thing about his dad. Oh yeah, I'm not speaking
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: out of school. He wrote it. Yeah, okay, but anyway,
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: it's he shall not be named, not going to name him. Um,
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: we're not going to name him. Neil and New Brunswick.
- 1:32:39Speaker 1: Last week I wrote in about our schedule release promo.
- 1:32:42Speaker 1: My comments were meant to be a joke. I hope
- 1:32:44Speaker 1: no one really took them too seriously. I don't remember it.
- 1:32:48Speaker 1: I'm not worried about the offensive play calling until we
- 1:32:51Speaker 1: actually see some plays called. Let's wait until September before
- 1:32:55Speaker 1: we hit the panic button. Well, this is funny. It's
- 1:32:58Speaker 1: like how many people complain about Josh McDaniels playing. Oh
- 1:33:01Speaker 1: how did he call that? There? I mean, it's just
- 1:33:02Speaker 1: something to complain about, like every fan, you know, it's
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: just an easy way to be you know. So I
- 1:33:06Speaker 1: can't ever imagine that who loves their offensive coordinator? No,
- 1:33:09Speaker 1: imagine the blog this year from me. Oh, I mean
- 1:33:12Speaker 1: a run there? They should have passed. Oh my god,
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: who's coordinating this offense? It's just such a low hanging
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: fruit like thing. Today. I have a theory as to
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: why Bill might not want to name coordinators. It's a
- 1:33:22Speaker 1: week theory, and if it's true, I think it's kind
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: of stupid. So just because I'm bringing it up doesn't
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: mean I agree with it could be the thought pattern.
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: If I don't name a coordinator, then other teams won't
- 1:33:34Speaker 1: know who to hire when they fire their coach. Teams
- 1:33:38Speaker 1: that succeed often lose the coordinators in January when impatient
- 1:33:41Speaker 1: owners fire their staff. I know that's a lame reason,
- 1:33:44Speaker 1: but what else can it be. It's not that I
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: mean I always thought. I think in the back of
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: the day when this stuff first started happening, was a
- 1:33:53Speaker 1: way to keep the young offensive or defensive coordinator from
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: having to deal with the responsibilities to the media of
- 1:34:00Speaker 1: a coordinator. And you know now that we're at this
- 1:34:03Speaker 1: point and if it is Joe Judge kind of that
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: doesn't really seem necessary. He's been a head coach. You
- 1:34:09Speaker 1: don't have to protect him. If it's a young Josh McDaniels,
- 1:34:11Speaker 1: a young Steve Belichick, those kind of things. That's why
- 1:34:14Speaker 1: I think part of the storyline too on the other
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: side of the ball, was like, is it time to
- 1:34:18Speaker 1: finally give that title to say Steve Belchecker, Garad Mayo?
- 1:34:22Speaker 1: Are they now ready after being groomed and not having
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: to deal with the coordinator duties? I could have something
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: to do it, I don't know. Kevin writes in from Dublin.
- 1:34:33Speaker 1: A lot has made in the NFL about the so
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: called second year jump. Before his rookie season, Deuce made
- 1:34:38Speaker 1: a point about focusing on how Mac Jones looked running
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: the offense rather than focusing on the stats. But this year,
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: analysts will inevitably look for a tangible difference for evidence
- 1:34:49Speaker 1: of that second year jump. Taking into consideration the Patriots
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: strength of schedule offensive talent, what would you consider would
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: qualify as a good second year jump from Mac stat wise?
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: In other words, touchdowns, interceptions, accuracy, et cetera. More touchdowns,
- 1:35:06Speaker 1: less interceptions. Maybe, yeah. I like to me, it's still
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: not about stats. It's about what he looks like. And
- 1:35:15Speaker 1: you know, like last year, the completion percentage was through
- 1:35:18Speaker 1: the roof. I could take a five percent drop in
- 1:35:20Speaker 1: completion percentage if there were more balls thrown down field,
- 1:35:24Speaker 1: you know. And I know that they had that stat
- 1:35:26Speaker 1: about the explosive plays. I don't really think that a
- 1:35:28Speaker 1: lot of that was was done you know, through any
- 1:35:31Speaker 1: any kind of deep passing or even big plays, you know,
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: run after catch kind of kind of plays. Very few
- 1:35:37Speaker 1: and far between. I thought, I think it was like
- 1:35:39Speaker 1: sixteen total plays, so you're talking less than a play
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: a game even, you know, I don't know, it's just
- 1:35:44Speaker 1: I agree. It was all like it was the percentage
- 1:35:46Speaker 1: stuff that you always like, oh in percentage and you
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: get into that and even the playing field, like I
- 1:35:51Speaker 1: don't need them to complete seventy percent of his passes
- 1:35:53Speaker 1: that they're all like dumped downs to Brandon Bolden. Yeah,
- 1:35:55Speaker 1: I'll give you. I'll give you two things though. I
- 1:35:57Speaker 1: think the passes up the seam, yep, those one. That's
- 1:36:01Speaker 1: something that they were harry in camp. They were harry
- 1:36:03Speaker 1: during the season. And I think doing a better job
- 1:36:07Speaker 1: of identifying the blitz, especially pre snap. I think there
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: were a lot of who good ones for free runners.
- 1:36:12Speaker 1: There are a lot of free runners. I mean I
- 1:36:13Speaker 1: actually caught a little of the Tampa Bay game. It
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: was on this weekend. I just chilling watching a little
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: bit of that. But Joe tryon and it's exactly right.
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: The steel trap, right, I mean, you know, but those
- 1:36:24Speaker 1: kind of plays where you know, he's got to know
- 1:36:26Speaker 1: when that guy's coming and either has to get him
- 1:36:28Speaker 1: blocked or has to get the ball out quicker. So
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: I mean, I think those are experience things. The same
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: thing though, that's something that popped up early and it
- 1:36:34Speaker 1: lingered through the whole season. Jack and and Aba says,
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: according to the Draft Scout website, Camera Groan ran a
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: four four five forty. That's good. That's pretty fast for it. Dude,
- 1:36:44Speaker 1: that's good linebacker. That is fast. Um duct tape Sam,
- 1:36:49Speaker 1: but can I make it quick? Can I make it?
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: Just a quid interjection? Because they asked him about that
- 1:36:53Speaker 1: yesterday and he said, studying it's really about knowing what's
- 1:36:57Speaker 1: going to happen before you know, film study, understanding what
- 1:37:00Speaker 1: the offense is doing and anticipating it. And that's how
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: you play fast. So it's you know, you can say whatever.
- 1:37:06Speaker 1: He can run a four two. If he doesn't see
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: it coming before it's coming, it doesn't really matter. So
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: he has the speed. It's Kenny process it and Kenny
- 1:37:13Speaker 1: gnticipation ahead of instincts. Duct Sam says, first of all,
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: it was really great to hear Eric receives such a
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: well deserved send off last week. Secondly, we need to
- 1:37:22Speaker 1: generate some buzz for Dante Scarnekia to be inducted into
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: the Patriots Hall of Fame immediately. No one deserves it more,
- 1:37:29Speaker 1: can't Craft pull executive privilege and select him for induction
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: right away. And finally, it's understandable that everyone is freaking
- 1:37:37Speaker 1: out about the lack of an offensive play caller. At
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: this point, it's still May, and I'm more concerned with
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: how the offensive line will be rebuilt. Even with the
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: selection of Strange. It seems like the importance of this
- 1:37:48Speaker 1: group is being overlooked past protection, run blocking, etc. Well,
- 1:37:52Speaker 1: this year's O line be better than last year's. I
- 1:37:59Speaker 1: don't know, I don't I don't know, I don't know.
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: I think again, health huge um, But you know, how
- 1:38:05Speaker 1: does Michael and when you look at right guard his
- 1:38:07Speaker 1: natural position, and how does how does Cole Strange assimilate?
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: If if cold Strange comes in, it plays very well.
- 1:38:12Speaker 1: And Michael and when you really, you know, finally finds
- 1:38:14Speaker 1: where he can blossom fully at right guard, then you know,
- 1:38:17Speaker 1: maybe if Trump Brown and Isaiah Win are hurting out
- 1:38:20Speaker 1: and they're just impossible, like you, I would say, I mean,
- 1:38:25Speaker 1: if you're asking an opinion, I would say, when you
- 1:38:27Speaker 1: will not be as good as Shack Mason. I think
- 1:38:28Speaker 1: Shack Mason's a really good player. I think that Cole
- 1:38:31Speaker 1: Strange will be better than taught Ted Carriss because I
- 1:38:34Speaker 1: think Ted Carriss was sort of a sixth offensive lineman
- 1:38:38Speaker 1: for a good for a good offensive line. I think
- 1:38:41Speaker 1: he stepped in last year did a nice job because
- 1:38:43Speaker 1: of when you struggled and they needed him out there.
- 1:38:46Speaker 1: But I don't know, like I don't know for sure
- 1:38:50Speaker 1: if that's gonna unfold. And the biggest question is the
- 1:38:52Speaker 1: one that might hit on the you know, the two tackles.
- 1:38:54Speaker 1: Are they going to be able to play close to
- 1:38:57Speaker 1: the full season if they play sixteen, if they play
- 1:38:59Speaker 1: team games, if they played most of the games, your
- 1:39:01Speaker 1: offensive line at worst will be as good as it
- 1:39:03Speaker 1: was last year. Marks and Bolton, what's up? Mark? Hi,
- 1:39:08Speaker 1: guys and girls. I think the Pages do have an
- 1:39:13Speaker 1: X factor on offense, and that's Thornton. You know, prior
- 1:39:18Speaker 1: to the draft there was talk of trading up for
- 1:39:22Speaker 1: Jamison Williams, and in order to do that it would
- 1:39:24Speaker 1: have been a first, a second, and a fourth something
- 1:39:26Speaker 1: along those lines that when you compare those two players
- 1:39:33Speaker 1: just physical traits, Thornton comes out. Okay. He's actually six
- 1:39:38Speaker 1: two and a half, so almost the full ins caller
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: then than Williams. His wingspans a couple of inches large longer,
- 1:39:47Speaker 1: his forty times at four point two eight. Who played
- 1:39:51Speaker 1: better faster? Pardon me? Who played better? Well? I mean,
- 1:39:58Speaker 1: if not like Thornton had a teams bad year, he had,
- 1:40:02Speaker 1: you know, half of the production that Williams did in
- 1:40:05Speaker 1: a league that is significantly better look in today's NFL.
- 1:40:12Speaker 1: In today's NFL, it's not uncommon for a rookie wide
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: receiver to come in and make an immediate impact on
- 1:40:17Speaker 1: their team. But Thornton isn't of the pedigree that those
- 1:40:21Speaker 1: guys are that do. I just think, you know, trying
- 1:40:23Speaker 1: to talk to themselves. I'm hopeful for him, but I'm
- 1:40:27Speaker 1: not counting. Maybe Jamison Williams never recovers from his torn
- 1:40:30Speaker 1: a c L and never never like regains the explosiveness
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: that made him a special player last year. But to
- 1:40:36Speaker 1: compare what Jamison Williams did at Alabama to what this
- 1:40:39Speaker 1: kid did at Baylor in a league with little to
- 1:40:43Speaker 1: no defense. To Marry made that point during the draft,
- 1:40:45Speaker 1: I think it was a good one. I don't know
- 1:40:48Speaker 1: how you can compare the two. I really don't. Well, like,
- 1:40:52Speaker 1: maybe he won't be the same. Maybe the torn a
- 1:40:54Speaker 1: c L is going to ruin his career. I don't know,
- 1:40:56Speaker 1: but it seems to me like a lot of guys,
- 1:40:58Speaker 1: you know, return from that stuff. Now I'm with you, guys,
- 1:41:01Speaker 1: I'm not expecting a lot. I mean, I think he
- 1:41:02Speaker 1: has a like a niche of having speed on the
- 1:41:05Speaker 1: outside and go out there. I mean is that. I
- 1:41:08Speaker 1: don't remember exactly how they use Bethel Johnson, but yeah,
- 1:41:11Speaker 1: some of it I see, like go on the outside,
- 1:41:15Speaker 1: go deep, go yeah, run past that guy. We're gonna
- 1:41:17Speaker 1: throw it to you a couple of times, you know,
- 1:41:19Speaker 1: maybe a month. And if Bethel Johnson, to his credit
- 1:41:23Speaker 1: earlier in his career, made the most of those opportunities
- 1:41:27Speaker 1: he caught, he caught a few of those, and they
- 1:41:29Speaker 1: were big parts of games at times. Um, you know,
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: if I think if Thornton can be that kind of
- 1:41:35Speaker 1: guy immediately, that would be an X factor just like
- 1:41:38Speaker 1: it was it Mark. I think, just like Mark said, yeah, uh,
- 1:41:42Speaker 1: Mike writes in as of right now, I assume Bentley
- 1:41:45Speaker 1: will be the starting inside linebacker, a lock that Ouche
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: will be next to him. No, if not, who would
- 1:41:52Speaker 1: you prefer? And why I'm not gonna say who. I mean,
- 1:41:55Speaker 1: I don't prefer I think it would be McMillan would
- 1:41:57Speaker 1: be the top, the top option probably or mac Wilson
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: one of those, one of those guys. Maybe mcgrow maybe
- 1:42:02Speaker 1: Fred You're a guy, I mean, I think, I just
- 1:42:06Speaker 1: I mean, I wonder more, how are they how are
- 1:42:07Speaker 1: they dealing with the edges? I mean, I I think
- 1:42:10Speaker 1: signs are probably pointing Ouch is just going to be
- 1:42:12Speaker 1: kind of a third down guy. That's probably Can he
- 1:42:14Speaker 1: not play? Like like Jude on, you don't you just
- 1:42:19Speaker 1: don't think he's good enough. I don't think he's I
- 1:42:21Speaker 1: don't think he's stout. I mean, I just I don't
- 1:42:23Speaker 1: think he has I don't think he has a position
- 1:42:25Speaker 1: on defense. He didn't have a position. That's what Michigan.
- 1:42:29Speaker 1: They've been messing with him as an off the ball
- 1:42:31Speaker 1: linebacker and an edge and I mean even yesterday, he's
- 1:42:34Speaker 1: kind of floating from different spots. I mean, and like,
- 1:42:37Speaker 1: you know, not like I still think he's valuable if
- 1:42:40Speaker 1: he comes to the third down and is and is
- 1:42:41Speaker 1: a pain in the butt as a pass rusher and
- 1:42:43Speaker 1: gets some juice and gets heat on the quarterback. But again,
- 1:42:47Speaker 1: watching the Tampa Bay game last last weekend. You know
- 1:42:51Speaker 1: he's out there, but you didn't see any of the
- 1:42:53Speaker 1: stuff that some people were writing about during training camp
- 1:42:55Speaker 1: where he's all over the place and he's making plays.
- 1:42:57Speaker 1: He's just, um you people who I think of Oucha
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: as an edge guy like Judeon, But I kind of
- 1:43:09Speaker 1: agree with Mike. I don't know if he's good enough
- 1:43:11Speaker 1: to fill that role. I think he might just be
- 1:43:13Speaker 1: a situational third down pass. Sure you have him moving forward? Yeah,
- 1:43:17Speaker 1: you can't tell me. We gotta play tennessee josh Ucha
- 1:43:20Speaker 1: first down on the edge, Like I just I don't
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: see that. I don't see that happening. Sulman in the
- 1:43:26Speaker 1: Bay Area was thinking about this and I realized it's
- 1:43:29Speaker 1: way too early as a discussion. If Matt Jones plays
- 1:43:32Speaker 1: subpart during the season, not to the extent that he's
- 1:43:35Speaker 1: making game deciding mental errors, but rather mechanics look off
- 1:43:39Speaker 1: and looks lost, do you think it's more of an
- 1:43:41Speaker 1: indictment on Jones or Joe Judge and also vice versa.
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: Let's say Jones plays better than he did as a
- 1:43:47Speaker 1: rookie and making throws he didn't last year, do you
- 1:43:50Speaker 1: think it'll be more credit to Jones or towards Judge.
- 1:43:53Speaker 1: I know it's way too early, but just wanted to
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: discuss as I was wondering about it. I've seen some
- 1:43:58Speaker 1: hot takes online saying that Judge could derail Jones's progress,
- 1:44:02Speaker 1: But I say, let's pump the brakes a bit. I don't.
- 1:44:06Speaker 1: I would put both on Jones. Yeah, if he if
- 1:44:09Speaker 1: he's worse, I blame him, and if he's better, I
- 1:44:12Speaker 1: credit him. I think it's the player, but I think
- 1:44:18Speaker 1: if he's worse, you need to I mean, not to
- 1:44:20Speaker 1: single out Joe Judge, but I think the operation would
- 1:44:22Speaker 1: have to be part of it because I think on paper,
- 1:44:25Speaker 1: they've you know, have familiar and new pieces around him there.
- 1:44:28Speaker 1: I mean, there should be enough there for him to
- 1:44:29Speaker 1: be able to make some strides. I don't know if
- 1:44:31Speaker 1: he's going to be a top five quarterback in the league,
- 1:44:33Speaker 1: but the pieces are there for him. It is where
- 1:44:35Speaker 1: the numbers won't necessarily. What I think that they did
- 1:44:38Speaker 1: really well last year when their offense was at its best,
- 1:44:41Speaker 1: was all of a sudden, you're just looking, It's like,
- 1:44:42Speaker 1: how did that guy get wide open? That's like at
- 1:44:45Speaker 1: least part on Josh, you know, And I think It's
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: also part on Mac because I think he understands what
- 1:44:51Speaker 1: he's doing. I think he has an idea of how
- 1:44:53Speaker 1: to play the position, and he knows what's going to
- 1:44:56Speaker 1: be available and when. For the most part, Mike is right.
- 1:44:58Speaker 1: He needs to approve on some the recognition things with
- 1:45:01Speaker 1: reading blitzes and knowing where those runaway rushers are coming from,
- 1:45:05Speaker 1: stuff like that. But how many times last year you
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: just say like, wow, you know, how did they just
- 1:45:09Speaker 1: get Kendrick Born wide open on a deep cross? There
- 1:45:13Speaker 1: was nobody within twenty yards of him. If you see
- 1:45:15Speaker 1: a lot of those plays like that again this year,
- 1:45:17Speaker 1: Joe Judge will deserve or whoever will deserve credit for that,
- 1:45:20Speaker 1: just like Josh got credit for it last year. But
- 1:45:24Speaker 1: at the same time, you got to find a way
- 1:45:25Speaker 1: to make some plays. It's not all the schemes fault
- 1:45:28Speaker 1: if you suddenly they're misfiring, you know, on passes that
- 1:45:32Speaker 1: need to be completed. And even aside from just the
- 1:45:34Speaker 1: individual plays, I think that like the Cleveland game felt
- 1:45:37Speaker 1: like the only time where we got them on their
- 1:45:39Speaker 1: heels and best game. We're just dealing and everything's kind
- 1:45:42Speaker 1: of working like you know, the other games, even that
- 1:45:44Speaker 1: they won. It was fits and starts, and you know
- 1:45:47Speaker 1: they're all right. Yeah, he wasn't throwing to just guys
- 1:45:49Speaker 1: that were unattended to in that game. He was fitting
- 1:45:51Speaker 1: into tight windows. The hunter Henry passed the one down
- 1:45:54Speaker 1: the seam to Feeling it to Born for the touchdown.
- 1:45:57Speaker 1: I mean he had some tough throws in that game.
- 1:46:00Speaker 1: Not easy dump offs, they would some tough throws. Um,
- 1:46:04Speaker 1: let's see. Anthony writes in the following players are all
- 1:46:08Speaker 1: eligible for the Patriots all the fame the same year.
- 1:46:11Speaker 1: Who are the finalists and who gets in? Bill, Tom,
- 1:46:14Speaker 1: and Gronk. I think Tom, those would be the three finalists. Yeah,
- 1:46:19Speaker 1: those are the three finalists. Yeah, I think Tom would
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: get in. Yeah, yeah, me too. But you never know
- 1:46:24Speaker 1: with with the fan voting enough, are there enough fans
- 1:46:27Speaker 1: turned off by Tom? Yeah it might be Bill to
- 1:46:30Speaker 1: vote for Bill first. We'll see the next year. But
- 1:46:33Speaker 1: I think there's that as many fans turned off from
- 1:46:35Speaker 1: Bill that are Patriots fans at least if you listen
- 1:46:38Speaker 1: to this show. Oh my god, so I think. But
- 1:46:40Speaker 1: I think Tom gets in. I think then Bill, then
- 1:46:43Speaker 1: if you'd asked, like summer twenty nineteen, it would have been,
- 1:46:46Speaker 1: no question, But I think as things have unfolded with
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: his retirement and people, what do you think it should be.
- 1:46:54Speaker 1: I think it should be Tom, Bill Gronk. I think
- 1:46:56Speaker 1: he should be Tom. Yeah. Bill. But it's as Bell says,
- 1:47:02Speaker 1: it's it's about the player. It is. Yeah, pretty sash
- 1:47:05Speaker 1: that it. Rashad's in Baltimore. What's up? Rashad? Hey, what's up?
- 1:47:11Speaker 1: What's up? And I guess, speaking of speaking on that,
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: before I get to my thing, I would definitely go
- 1:47:16Speaker 1: Tom bild and Brown just because it's like, I mean,
- 1:47:21Speaker 1: I know, without both, but definitely without Tom what without
- 1:47:24Speaker 1: the quarterback? Yeah? But but my my thing what I
- 1:47:29Speaker 1: want to talk about is defense. I know you guys
- 1:47:31Speaker 1: were talking about Mac Jones and like gear two jumps
- 1:47:34Speaker 1: and stuff, But my thing is I want the defense
- 1:47:38Speaker 1: just to take a jump. So whether it is that
- 1:47:41Speaker 1: forsons turnovers, maybe finishing sacks, maybe I mean, maybe they
- 1:47:47Speaker 1: can stop the run on third down for one. Like,
- 1:47:49Speaker 1: I'm just looking for little things that the defense can
- 1:47:53Speaker 1: do to take the first step. And I want to
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: know what what if some things that you guys think
- 1:47:57Speaker 1: they could do up. I I'm only kidding. I'm being snarky.
- 1:48:02Speaker 1: I'm not gonna lie. I mean, this is more concerning
- 1:48:05Speaker 1: to me than the offensive coordinator. That thing. I mean,
- 1:48:08Speaker 1: I just you know, you look at who's out there.
- 1:48:10Speaker 1: It's not the it's not the same guys. It's not
- 1:48:12Speaker 1: the same guys anymore. They're young, unproven guys. I think
- 1:48:15Speaker 1: a lot of it's just going to depend on the
- 1:48:17Speaker 1: safety group and how Jabroll Pepper's and Adrian Phillips and
- 1:48:20Speaker 1: Kyle Dugger, how that kind of trail guys. I mean,
- 1:48:23Speaker 1: there's a million things you should be looking for in defense.
- 1:48:25Speaker 1: Here's one thing. How many times last year did we
- 1:48:28Speaker 1: see Dante hi Tower just like standing up and being
- 1:48:32Speaker 1: completely out of the play. Now, you know, we said,
- 1:48:35Speaker 1: well he's really lost a step. A lot of that, though,
- 1:48:38Speaker 1: is just they were lined up wrong. They just the
- 1:48:42Speaker 1: other team saw something and he was just in the
- 1:48:45Speaker 1: wrong place. You know, I'd like to like limit those things,
- 1:48:50Speaker 1: those communication mishaps on defense where you know, the hole
- 1:48:56Speaker 1: just opens up and a guy runs for forty yards
- 1:48:58Speaker 1: because you were just out of position for that play
- 1:49:02Speaker 1: for that Look, let's let's eliminate that. Let's start there
- 1:49:05Speaker 1: and then and that's a that's a great point for it,
- 1:49:07Speaker 1: and then you know it's and he's a veteran who's
- 1:49:09Speaker 1: been here, and it was playing with other veterans who
- 1:49:12Speaker 1: have been here, and now you have guys that I
- 1:49:14Speaker 1: haven't been here and aren't veterans and and don't know that.
- 1:49:16Speaker 1: So you know, I think hoping for that is is great,
- 1:49:20Speaker 1: but it's all a big hope. And you know, I
- 1:49:22Speaker 1: just I mean, the simple question for me is when
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: you look at the defense on paper, what's the strength? What?
- 1:49:26Speaker 1: What does the strength of this defense? I don't know.
- 1:49:29Speaker 1: I don't know yet. I don't know what it is.
- 1:49:30Speaker 1: And and and and that's what I come back too.
- 1:49:32Speaker 1: I come back what is the strength with a defense?
- 1:49:34Speaker 1: Like like if I can say we're good at one thing,
- 1:49:38Speaker 1: I can't. I can't really think of one thing, even
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: something that's basic, like good at tangling. Like I can't
- 1:49:44Speaker 1: think of one thing that I would say. I would
- 1:49:47Speaker 1: say third down. Um, I thought they were pretty good
- 1:49:49Speaker 1: on third downs last year for the most part. Now
- 1:49:51Speaker 1: there was some glaring exceptions. Um. You know, we talked
- 1:49:55Speaker 1: about where they ranked offensively last year. They were pretty high, Yeah,
- 1:49:58Speaker 1: rankings point because they had those games that skewed it.
- 1:50:02Speaker 1: What do you think they were defensively, like top of
- 1:50:04Speaker 1: the league overall defense, they were second in the league
- 1:50:10Speaker 1: seventeen point eight points a game. They tied for third
- 1:50:13Speaker 1: and takeaways with thirty and they were eighth and third
- 1:50:16Speaker 1: down percentage with thirty points one. I'm gonna say the
- 1:50:18Speaker 1: same thing then about those games. Skewed absolutely. Those games
- 1:50:22Speaker 1: skewed absolutely when push came to show they couldn't move
- 1:50:25Speaker 1: the ball right and they couldn't stop the other team.
- 1:50:27Speaker 1: I mean, from the time they came back from that buy. Yeah,
- 1:50:30Speaker 1: we talked about it. It was just that if that
- 1:50:32Speaker 1: last four or five stretch, it were games out of
- 1:50:35Speaker 1: five weeks, it looked like a different team, but it
- 1:50:37Speaker 1: was also a different opponents. They were playing better team,
- 1:50:41Speaker 1: closer to full strength, right, and it was extremes when
- 1:50:43Speaker 1: you'd play a bad team, they get shut out or
- 1:50:46Speaker 1: you know, absolutely it was fifty to nothing, right, you know,
- 1:50:49Speaker 1: and then you'd have a game where you can't get
- 1:50:51Speaker 1: anything going and they don't have any answers. And again
- 1:50:54Speaker 1: that Tampa game, it's there's no plays in the backfield
- 1:50:57Speaker 1: being made. There's nobody making plays behind the line of scrimmage.
- 1:50:59Speaker 1: It's two yards down that might have been their best
- 1:51:02Speaker 1: defensive performance of the year, the Tampa game. And I
- 1:51:06Speaker 1: think we all sort of looked at it at the
- 1:51:07Speaker 1: time and like they dodged some bullets that night, right,
- 1:51:10Speaker 1: Tom wasn't really sharp. It was went ran all over them,
- 1:51:15Speaker 1: you know, So they had they had some issues in
- 1:51:17Speaker 1: that game. And even even then, when it counted, they
- 1:51:19Speaker 1: scored I think the last three times, the last four
- 1:51:22Speaker 1: times they had the ball when they had to score,
- 1:51:25Speaker 1: they did. Um. But yeah, like I would agree with
- 1:51:27Speaker 1: it with Fred. The numbers will tell you they were
- 1:51:30Speaker 1: elite defensively last year, but they weren't. It's such an interesting,
- 1:51:34Speaker 1: just weird quirk. And I mean I keep looking at
- 1:51:37Speaker 1: that and you know that how do you resign that too,
- 1:51:40Speaker 1: you know, because I mean, look, they it certainly ended bad.
- 1:51:43Speaker 1: It wasn't an absolute train wreck season. They had their moments.
- 1:51:47Speaker 1: But it's just hard to look at those stats and
- 1:51:49Speaker 1: it does not match up with anything that you remember
- 1:51:53Speaker 1: because you're thinking of, you know, the four picks um,
- 1:51:57Speaker 1: you know against the Jets. You're thinking of, you know,
- 1:52:00Speaker 1: finishing the game in Atlanta on the Thursday night with
- 1:52:02Speaker 1: a shutout and picks in the last three plays. Of
- 1:52:05Speaker 1: the game. Remember they threw like three different quarterbacks on
- 1:52:07Speaker 1: the last player to get the last three We want
- 1:52:09Speaker 1: to start the postgame show, you know, like you think
- 1:52:12Speaker 1: those those kinds of games in a seventeen game season
- 1:52:16Speaker 1: really skew the numbers. But like Fred points out, often
- 1:52:21Speaker 1: when you don't force a punt, the proof is in
- 1:52:23Speaker 1: the play. In two of the last what five games,
- 1:52:26Speaker 1: you didn't even force a punt. And remember you also
- 1:52:28Speaker 1: had a game even force a field goal in the play,
- 1:52:30Speaker 1: you know, the win game in Buffalo. That that'll help
- 1:52:33Speaker 1: you to use their numbers. Totally weird outlier kind of
- 1:52:36Speaker 1: a game. They can't really and they played well in
- 1:52:38Speaker 1: some of those games like that, Like I thought the
- 1:52:40Speaker 1: first Jets game they played, I mean, they played reasonably
- 1:52:43Speaker 1: well defensively in that game, you know, even though Zach
- 1:52:46Speaker 1: Wilson threw the ball to them a couple of times.
- 1:52:49Speaker 1: But you know that doesn't mean they didn't play well. Yeah,
- 1:52:52Speaker 1: but it is, it's it kind of skews it a
- 1:52:54Speaker 1: little bit. Yeah, I mean, listen, if we're gonna listen
- 1:52:57Speaker 1: to Bill, real football starts at thanks get right, and
- 1:53:01Speaker 1: that's when they fell down. So that's what we're left
- 1:53:03Speaker 1: with you know, years in a row. Right, So that's
- 1:53:07Speaker 1: let's forget about all the other stuff. We got room
- 1:53:10Speaker 1: to improve here. You know, if we go into this
- 1:53:12Speaker 1: season thinking all that's seventeen point eight blowing to game
- 1:53:14Speaker 1: there number two, they got a good defense, then you're
- 1:53:17Speaker 1: whistling past the graveyard. You know, we've got to see
- 1:53:20Speaker 1: marked improvement in several areas on defense. I in past years,
- 1:53:26Speaker 1: have you know, been worried more about the offense than
- 1:53:29Speaker 1: the defense? This year, as of right now, I am
- 1:53:31Speaker 1: more worried about the defense the offense. I think the
- 1:53:33Speaker 1: offense is going to be pretty good. Yeah, I'm with you.
- 1:53:37Speaker 1: I'm with you. I really curious how the defense comes
- 1:53:40Speaker 1: together and and and how how do the competitive periods
- 1:53:43Speaker 1: between the two look? I mean, last year you got
- 1:53:45Speaker 1: Dante Higtower's screwing with Mac Jones dropping out into holes
- 1:53:49Speaker 1: and you know, picking them off, and Kylie Annoy picking
- 1:53:51Speaker 1: them off, and you know, all those veterans messing with
- 1:53:53Speaker 1: Mac Jones. It's different this year. And and and you know,
- 1:53:56Speaker 1: if if I don't know how we're gonna feel if
- 1:53:57Speaker 1: Mac Jones goes out there and he's lighting up the
- 1:54:00Speaker 1: defense like we're good but are we gonna be able
- 1:54:03Speaker 1: to stop anybody? Ernest writes in from East Hardwick, Vermont.
- 1:54:07Speaker 1: I have not heard this suggestion, but what if Brian
- 1:54:11Speaker 1: Hoyer called the plays? He might be better do a
- 1:54:15Speaker 1: better job than the other options based on what because
- 1:54:20Speaker 1: he's Brian Hoyer and he has those funky little hats
- 1:54:23Speaker 1: and they do he knows the offense like the back
- 1:54:26Speaker 1: of his hand in the past of the day yesterday. Nice,
- 1:54:28Speaker 1: poor Briane. It just wants play like you know. No, no, no,
- 1:54:33Speaker 1: we don't want him. Make him a coach Brian Hoyer.
- 1:54:40Speaker 1: Um no, you'll keep thinking out of the box. Um,
- 1:54:43Speaker 1: let's see, further out of the box than a collaborative
- 1:54:45Speaker 1: with like five guys involved in the process, right from
- 1:54:48Speaker 1: more out of the box than that, Tony writes in
- 1:54:51Speaker 1: question for mister Hollywood deuce. Ever since I noticed this trend,
- 1:54:55Speaker 1: I have wondered, is it a written or unwritten rule
- 1:54:58Speaker 1: that the major networks all pre one specific kind of show.
- 1:55:02Speaker 1: NBC does all workplace comedies, CBS does terrible studio audience comedies,
- 1:55:07Speaker 1: FOX does animation or adult comedy. ABC does family sitcoms.
- 1:55:12Speaker 1: Is there some directive that these studios have to follow
- 1:55:15Speaker 1: or is it just a case of each network having
- 1:55:18Speaker 1: found a formula that work for one show and decided
- 1:55:21Speaker 1: to replicate it forever. Yeah, that's a really good question. Um. Yeah,
- 1:55:24Speaker 1: each network kind of has their own vibe and how
- 1:55:27Speaker 1: they want to do things. So when we would develop shows,
- 1:55:29Speaker 1: we would you know, have slight tweaks for things. So
- 1:55:32Speaker 1: like the Fox version of the show was certainly different
- 1:55:35Speaker 1: than what the ABC Family or ABC version of the
- 1:55:38Speaker 1: show would be. But I think there's a little bit
- 1:55:40Speaker 1: of directive. I mean, I think it's also it's copycat league.
- 1:55:43Speaker 1: So there's a there's a hit, there's this is Us,
- 1:55:45Speaker 1: and then all of a sudden, you've got a bunch
- 1:55:46Speaker 1: of acoustic guitar melodramas on TV. Even when I was
- 1:55:51Speaker 1: a kid, like you had the Munsters and Adam's Family,
- 1:55:54Speaker 1: you had Hogan's Heroes, Mikhael's Navy, you know, you had
- 1:55:58Speaker 1: I dream Agini, you had Bewitched, you know, so you had, yeah,
- 1:56:03Speaker 1: the counter of each one, and I mean it was
- 1:56:05Speaker 1: like then there were two stations, Yeah right, well and
- 1:56:07Speaker 1: then we're you know, and then there were four. But
- 1:56:09Speaker 1: you know, like the single cam kind of revolution that
- 1:56:13Speaker 1: happened and you know, the mid two thousands, which was
- 1:56:15Speaker 1: really when I was in the think of it. That
- 1:56:16Speaker 1: changed things too, because it went from you know, all
- 1:56:19Speaker 1: the comedies were sitcoms, and all the dramas were you know, procedurals, medicals,
- 1:56:23Speaker 1: those kind of things, and then you know, then you
- 1:56:25Speaker 1: started getting single cam like you know, the Office was
- 1:56:27Speaker 1: was offshoot of the BBC one. Um, so then it
- 1:56:30Speaker 1: kind of blurred the lines a little bit. Now you've
- 1:56:32Speaker 1: got like a modern family where I mean, what camera
- 1:56:34Speaker 1: are they talking to? You know, so it didn't have
- 1:56:36Speaker 1: to be a sitcom. Then they took the laugh track
- 1:56:38Speaker 1: out it, so I mean it did evolve a little bit,
- 1:56:40Speaker 1: and certainly networks, you know, he evolved as well as
- 1:56:44Speaker 1: to what they were looking for. But I mean, as
- 1:56:46Speaker 1: he laid it out, it's pretty dead on I mean ABC.
- 1:56:48Speaker 1: I mean, I mean, Paul, you watched a ton of TV,
- 1:56:50Speaker 1: like you could probably flip a show on and probably
- 1:56:52Speaker 1: be like, this seems like an ABC show to me.
- 1:56:54Speaker 1: I never really thought of it, but yeah, um, CBS
- 1:56:57Speaker 1: definitely doesn't. Does a CBS skew to an old their audience? Yeah, traditionally,
- 1:57:01Speaker 1: And that's where I was, I mean, that's where I
- 1:57:03Speaker 1: was based from twenty ten to twenty seventeen, so we
- 1:57:05Speaker 1: did most of our work with CBS, which I loved,
- 1:57:07Speaker 1: I mean because their notes at CBS Wendy Trilling like
- 1:57:11Speaker 1: it was only ever we didn't quite get this joke
- 1:57:13Speaker 1: and logically it didn't track. And I just like, you know,
- 1:57:15Speaker 1: the writers and everybody appreciate that they're good notes. You know.
- 1:57:18Speaker 1: Then you get into some of the other networks and
- 1:57:20Speaker 1: they would start getting into story and it's like, this
- 1:57:22Speaker 1: is a sitcom, Like why are we talking about the
- 1:57:25Speaker 1: character's motivation here? Like just make us laugh that kind
- 1:57:27Speaker 1: of thing. So m but a real, real good question
- 1:57:30Speaker 1: certainly has expanded and changed HBO, Netflix, Now you've just
- 1:57:33Speaker 1: got so many shows of all different kinds of varieties.
- 1:57:36Speaker 1: But at the core those those networks, that's that's what
- 1:57:38Speaker 1: it is. It's network television dead when in terms of
- 1:57:42Speaker 1: primetime episodes, and they're gonna have to get to more
- 1:57:46Speaker 1: like you know, game shows and all that, because how
- 1:57:50Speaker 1: do you compete with what's going on on the independent
- 1:57:53Speaker 1: I think they're asking that same question to themselves right
- 1:57:56Speaker 1: now and trying to figure it out. Yeah, I mean,
- 1:57:59Speaker 1: that's the only one that watches networks, no questions, no question.
- 1:58:02Speaker 1: But there does still seem to be a lot of
- 1:58:05Speaker 1: new shows that are coming out. Oh yeah, well they're
- 1:58:06Speaker 1: still but they're still producing them. I know. It just
- 1:58:09Speaker 1: used to be so cyclical where you'd have the upfronts
- 1:58:11Speaker 1: in May, they'd pick what they're gonna pick up, you know,
- 1:58:14Speaker 1: you you'd sell your pilots in the late summer, you'd
- 1:58:16Speaker 1: be producing them in the spring. I mean, it was
- 1:58:18Speaker 1: just such a cycle to it. And now it's just
- 1:58:19Speaker 1: it's just the expectation of audience share has gone down,
- 1:58:23Speaker 1: Like what was right twenty years ago? You can't get that,
- 1:58:27Speaker 1: so now you have to, you know, lower your expectations.
- 1:58:29Speaker 1: So true, so true. I mean we lived and lived
- 1:58:31Speaker 1: and died by all that. You know, how much do
- 1:58:33Speaker 1: you hold of your lead in? And you know, what
- 1:58:35Speaker 1: did you do in the demo? And all I mean
- 1:58:37Speaker 1: questions like can you you know, like you're too young,
- 1:58:40Speaker 1: but like there's no one that didn't watch All in
- 1:58:43Speaker 1: the Family. Everybody watched All in the Family. You go
- 1:58:47Speaker 1: the next everybody know what happened, you know, like certain
- 1:58:50Speaker 1: shows like that, everybody watched it, right, you know, and
- 1:58:53Speaker 1: and now go walk in, who's seen it everybody. And
- 1:58:55Speaker 1: now you're like, did you watch the show on Hulu? Uh? Like,
- 1:58:59Speaker 1: I don't even know what you're talking about. Like, but
- 1:59:01Speaker 1: now we get back to our cluster communities that go
- 1:59:03Speaker 1: back to the movie theater to watch the TV show.
- 1:59:06Speaker 1: We tied it all all right, We're comfort fall circle.
