Transcript
- 0:00Welcome to the Voices of Life, the official podcast
- 0:03of the Church for Life. I'm Pastor David, and
- 0:06I'm honored to walk with you as we begin a brand
- 0:09new 12 -week journey called Living with Purpose,
- 0:13A God -Centered Life. Over the next three months,
- 0:18we'll explore identity, spirituality, rhythms
- 0:23of relationships, your calling, courage. and
- 0:29legacy all through the lens of god's heart for
- 0:34you today in week one we begin with the foundation
- 0:39of everything who god says you are before we
- 0:45talk about purpose before we talk about habits
- 0:48and before we talk about relationships or calling
- 0:52we must first understand identity because if
- 0:57you don't know who you are you won't know how
- 1:00to live. If you don't know your worth, you won't
- 1:04know what to receive. And if you don't know your
- 1:08calling, you won't know where to walk. So wherever
- 1:12you're listening from, your home, your car, your
- 1:16office, or in a quiet walk, I invite you to slow
- 1:20down, breathe deeply, and let God speak over
- 1:25you. I'm grateful to be your guide today as we
- 1:29begin this journey together. We live in a world
- 1:36where identity is constantly shifting. Every
- 1:40day, people are told who they should be, how
- 1:43they should look, what they should achieve, and
- 1:48what they should value. Social media amplifies
- 1:52comparison. Culture elevates performance. Past
- 1:57experiences whisper labels that cling to the
- 2:02soul. Many people walk through life wearing names
- 2:06that were never meant for them. Not enough, too
- 2:11much, unwanted, unseen, failure, broken, or maybe
- 2:19forgotten. Identity is often shaped long before
- 2:24we realize it. A comment from a parent. A moment
- 2:29of embarrassment in school. A relationship that
- 2:33left a scar. A failure that felt final. A success
- 2:40that became a burden to maintain. These moments
- 2:44accumulate. They formulate a story we begin to
- 2:49believe ourselves. Even if that story isn't true.
- 2:55we still sometimes feel that that's what we were
- 3:00meant to do or meant to be. But God defines you
- 3:04by truth, not by trends. Identity is not something
- 3:10you achieve. It's something you receive. It is
- 3:15not built on your performance, but on God's declaration.
- 3:20And yet, So many of us spend years, even decades,
- 3:25trying to earn what God has already freely given.
- 3:31Take a moment to consider how identity has been
- 3:35shaped in your own life. Think about the voices
- 3:39that influenced you in your beginnings. Your
- 3:44parents, your teachers, your friends, your enemies.
- 3:53Culture, trauma, your successes, and of course
- 3:58your failures. Think about the moments that marked
- 4:02you. The words that stuck to you. The expectations
- 4:07that weighed on you. Now breathe. Slow your pace.
- 4:15Let your heart settle. You are stepping into
- 4:19a space. where god wants you to speak truth over
- 4:22you truth that has the power to reshape your
- 4:28entire life soft ambience sometimes leaves us
- 4:40in a very good tranquil mood and if we think
- 4:45about it and think back to the bible Scripture
- 4:50reveals a powerful picture of you and who you
- 4:54truly are. These truths are not motivational
- 4:59and just statements to make you feel good or
- 5:05make you feel bad. They could be positive affirmations.
- 5:12They are declarations from the creator of the
- 5:16universe. You are God's beloved, not tolerated,
- 5:21not barely accepted, but deeply loved. God's
- 5:26love for you is not fragile. It does not fluctuate
- 5:29with your behavior. It is steady and unwavering.
- 5:35It's rooted in his character, not your performance.
- 5:41You were chosen intentionally, selected by God.
- 5:45Not an afterthought. Before you were born, God
- 5:50saw you, knew you, and desired you. You are not
- 5:55here by accident. You are not a mistake. You
- 5:59are wanted. You are forgiven. No longer defined
- 6:04by your past or your mistakes. Shame loses its
- 6:10power when forgiveness takes its place. God does
- 6:15not hold your failures over your head. He removes
- 6:18them as far as the east is from the west. You
- 6:24are made new, transformed from inside out. God
- 6:30is not interested in polishing your old life.
- 6:33He is committed to giving you a new one. You
- 6:37are God's workmanship, crafted with purpose and
- 6:40intention. You are not random. You are not ordinary.
- 6:45You are a masterpiece in progress, shaped by
- 6:49the hands of a loving creator. You are adopted
- 6:55into God's family, welcomed, embraced, and given
- 7:01a place to belong. You're not spiritually homeless.
- 7:06You have a Father who delights in you. And you
- 7:09are called, not randomly placed on this earth,
- 7:13but intentionally sent with a purpose. Your life
- 7:18has a meaning. Your presence does matter. Your
- 7:24stories carry weight. Let these truths settle
- 7:30into your spirit. Let them change the lies you've
- 7:35believed. Let them become the foundation of your
- 7:38identity. Worth is one of the most fiercely contested
- 7:45areas of the human heart. Every person, no matter
- 7:50their background, age, or story, wrestles with
- 7:55the question, am I enough? It's a question that
- 8:00hides beneath our achievements, our insecurities,
- 8:05our relationships, and even our failures. It
- 8:10is a question that shapes how we show up in the
- 8:14world or how we hide from it. Many people struggle
- 8:17with comparison, constantly measuring themselves
- 8:20against others. Comparison is a thief. It steals
- 8:24your joy, your peace, and your confidence. It
- 8:29whispers, you're behind. You're not as good.
- 8:34You don't measure up. the more we shrink. Others
- 8:41carry the weight of criticism. Words spoken over
- 8:45them that wounded them deeply. Maybe it was a
- 8:49parent who said you'd never amount to anything.
- 8:53Maybe it was a teacher who dismissed your potential.
- 8:57Maybe it was a friend who betrayed you. Or a
- 9:01partner who made you feel small. Words can shape
- 9:06us. and sometimes the most painful ones echo
- 9:11for years. Still, others battle condemnation,
- 9:16feeling unworthy of love or acceptance. They
- 9:20replay their mistakes, their regrets, their failures,
- 9:24believing their worst moment defines their entire
- 9:29identity. Condemnation is a heavy chain, and
- 9:33many walk through life dragging it behind them.
- 9:38But God speaks a better word over your life.
- 9:42His voice cuts through comparison, criticisms,
- 9:45and condemnations. His voice says, you are mine.
- 9:52You are loved. You are valued. You are worth
- 9:59more than you know. And when God speaks worth
- 10:03over you, no human voice can override it. Take
- 10:08a moment to breathe. Let your shoulders relax.
- 10:13Let your heart soften. You are stepping into
- 10:17a space where God wants you to restore your sense
- 10:20of worth. Your worth is not determined by your
- 10:24performance, your productivity, your perfection,
- 10:29or lack thereof, or your popularity. It is not
- 10:33based on what you accomplish. or how you meet
- 10:37expectations it is not tied to your job title
- 10:41it is not tied to your income to your appearance
- 10:45or your social status it is not defined by your
- 10:49past your failures or your weaknesses your worth
- 10:54is determined by the one who created you and
- 10:58redeemed you think about that for a moment the
- 11:03god who formed galaxies who shaped mountains,
- 11:08who carved out the oceans, who breathed stars
- 11:12into existence. That same God formed you with
- 11:17intention and love. He crafted your personality,
- 11:22your gifts, your passions, your quirks, your
- 11:27strengths. He designed you with a purpose. And
- 11:33then, When sin separated you from him, he paid
- 11:38the highest price imaginable to bring you back.
- 11:43You are worth the blood of Christ, the highest
- 11:46value ever assigned to anything in history. Nothing
- 11:51you do can increase that worth. Nothing you do
- 11:55can decrease that worth. It is fixed. It is eternal.
- 12:02and it is unshakable. You don't earn it. You
- 12:08don't lose it. You simply receive it. Imagine
- 12:14if you lived from that truth. Imagine waking
- 12:19up each morning knowing you are deeply valued.
- 12:24Imagine walking into every room with the quiet
- 12:28confidence of someone who knows they are loved
- 12:31by god and imagine no longer apologizing for
- 12:37your existence but embracing the truth of your
- 12:42identity your worth is not fragile it is not
- 12:46negotiable it is not up for debate it is anchored
- 12:52in the heart of god Many of us carry wounds that
- 13:00distort our sense of worth. Childhood wounds,
- 13:04relational wounds, spiritual wounds, internal
- 13:08wounds. These wounds shape how we see ourselves,
- 13:13how we interact with others, and how we relate
- 13:17to God. Childhood wounds often come from moments
- 13:22when we felt unseen, unheard, and unprotected.
- 13:28Maybe you grew up in a home where love was conditional.
- 13:33Maybe you were compared to siblings. Maybe you
- 13:37were pressured to perform. Maybe you were told
- 13:41you weren't enough or made to feel like too much.
- 13:48Relational wounds come from betrayal, rejection,
- 13:52abandonment, and most often, heartbreak. These
- 13:59can make us question our value, our desirability,
- 14:04our significance. They can make us afraid to
- 14:09trust, to love, to be vulnerable. Spiritual wounds
- 14:17come from experiences where faith was used as
- 14:20a weapon instead of a refuge. Maybe you were
- 14:23shamed instead of shepherded. Maybe you were
- 14:26judged. instead of welcomed. Maybe you were taught
- 14:32that God's love had to be earned. Internal wounds
- 14:38come from the stories we tell ourselves. Stories
- 14:42shaped by fear, insecurity, or past pain. These
- 14:48stories can become prisons if we don't get or
- 14:51let God rewrite them. Today, bring those wounds
- 14:57before God. You don't have to hide them. You
- 15:01don't have to pretend they don't hurt. God is
- 15:04not intimidated by your pain. He is not disappointed
- 15:07by your struggle. He is a healer, and He wants
- 15:11to restore the parts of you that have been diminished
- 15:13by pain. Imagine placing your wounds in God's
- 15:17hands. Imagine Him holding them gently, compassionately.
- 15:21Imagine Him speaking truth into the places. where
- 15:25lies once lived. Take a slow breath. Let your
- 15:33heart open. Lord, I bring you places where I've
- 15:39believed I wasn't enough. I bring you the moments
- 15:43that wounded me. I bring you the lies that shaped
- 15:47me. And I ask you to speak truth over me. Imagine
- 15:53God's love washing over every place of insecurity,
- 15:57fear, or shame. Imagine his presence settling
- 16:02over you like a warm blanket. Let his love fill
- 16:07the places you felt empty. Let his peace quiet
- 16:12the places where you felt anxious. Let his truth
- 16:16replace the lies with that have shaped your story.
- 16:22You are loved. You are valued. You are held.
- 16:27You are worth more than you know. When you understand
- 16:34your worth, you begin to live differently. You
- 16:39begin to protect your soul. You begin to rest
- 16:42without guilt. You begin to prioritize what truly
- 16:46matters. calling is one of the most misunderstood
- 16:51parts of christian life many people think calling
- 16:56is a job title a ministry role or specific assignment
- 17:02others think calling is something only pastors
- 17:06and missionaries do or spiritual people have
- 17:10but calling is not a position it is not an expression
- 17:14of identity it flows from you And when God calls
- 17:22you, he doesn't start with your skills. He doesn't
- 17:26look at your resume. He doesn't even look at
- 17:29your accomplishments. He starts with your identity.
- 17:35He starts with who he created you to be. Before
- 17:41God called Moses to lead, he called him by name.
- 17:46Before God called David to be king, he called
- 17:50him a man after his own heart. Before God called
- 17:57Mary to carry Jesus, he called her favored. Before
- 18:05Jesus, his disciples, to follow him, he called
- 18:09them chosen. Calling always begins with identity.
- 18:17When you know who you are, you begin to understand
- 18:20why you're here. When you know you are loved,
- 18:24you begin to love others. When you know you are
- 18:28forgiven, you begin to extend grace. When you
- 18:34know you are chosen, you begin to walk with confidence.
- 18:43You begin to see your gifts as tools for his
- 18:47glory. Calling is not something you chase. It
- 18:52is something you live from. Take a moment to
- 18:57breathe that in. You don't have to strive for
- 19:01calling. You don't have to force it. You don't
- 19:08have to fear missing it. Calling unfolds naturally.
- 19:13when identity is rooted in god calling unfolds
- 19:19in three beautiful layers each one building on
- 19:23the other first there's your universal calling
- 19:29and it's the same calling every believer shares
- 19:33to love god love people this is the foundation
- 19:39of calling everything else flow flows from this
- 19:43if you never knew your specific assignment this
- 19:48calling alone would give your life meaning loving
- 19:52god with your whole heart and loving people with
- 19:55compassion humility and grace this is the greatest
- 20:00calling you will ever walk in your seasonal calling
- 20:06is what god is asking you to do in this particular
- 20:10moment of your life seasons change and so do
- 20:15assignments there are seasons of learning there
- 20:20are seasons of serving seasons of healing seasons
- 20:26of rest seasons of stretching seasons of stepping
- 20:35out in faith. Sometimes your seasonal calling
- 20:40is loud and obvious. Other times it's quiet and
- 20:44subtle. But God always leading you to something
- 20:50even that something is simply to be still and
- 20:54trust him. Ask yourself, what season am I in
- 21:00right now? What is God emphasizing? What is he
- 21:06drawing my attention to? Your personal calling
- 21:11is the unique combination of gifts, passions,
- 21:16experiences, and burdens. God has placed within
- 21:19you. It is the thing that makes your heart come
- 21:23alive. It is the thing that breaks your heart
- 21:25in a way that reflects God's heart. It is the
- 21:30thing that energizes you. Even when it's hard,
- 21:34it is the thing that feels like this is what
- 21:38I was made for. Your personal calling is not
- 21:42limited to a career. It could show up in your
- 21:45family, your friendships, your church, your community,
- 21:49your creativity, leadership, your compassion,
- 21:55your influence. It is the unique way God expresses
- 22:00his heart. through your life. When these three
- 22:06layers, universal, seasonal, and personal come
- 22:11together, they form a beautiful picture of purpose.
- 22:17Even when your calling is clear, many things
- 22:20can hinder us from walking in it. Fear whispers
- 22:24you're not ready. Insecurity whispers you're
- 22:29not enough. Compassion whispers, you're not like
- 22:33them. Busyness whispers, you don't have time.
- 22:41Past failures whisper, you've already messed
- 22:45up. And lack of clarity whispers, you don't know
- 22:51what to do. These barriers are real, but they
- 22:55are not final. God equips you to overcome them
- 22:58as you walk with him. Calling is not about perfection.
- 23:02It is about obedience. It is about taking the
- 23:05next step. Even when you don't see the whole
- 23:09path, it is about trusting that God will meet
- 23:12you in the journey. Find a quiet posture. Let
- 23:20your breathing slow. Let your heart open and
- 23:24ask God, what have you placed in my hands? Let
- 23:29images, memories, or ideas rise gently. Ask,
- 23:33what breaks my heart in the way that reflects
- 23:37your heart? Pay attention to the burdens that
- 23:41feel holy. Ask, what brings me joy, the kind
- 23:46of joy that feels like purpose? And notice things
- 23:49that energize your spirit. Ask, where are you
- 23:54leading me this year? Let God speak direction,
- 23:58even if it's just one small step. Let the moment
- 24:02breathe. Let God speak. As we enter into our
- 24:08final part of this session, our journey today,
- 24:14I want to bring everything together. I want to
- 24:18take the identity, the worth, and the calling.
- 24:20These three truths. They're not meant to just
- 24:25be heard once and forgotten. So many times we
- 24:29read something, we say, oh yeah, this is important,
- 24:32and then a few moments later it's gone. These
- 24:37are meant to be lived and revisited and woven
- 24:41into the rhythm of your everyday life. Identity
- 24:45tells you who you are. Worth tells you how God
- 24:49sees you. And calling tells... you why you're
- 24:54here you have to integrate these into your everyday
- 24:59life right away these are three truths that form
- 25:03a foundation strong enough to carry you through
- 25:05every season of life the joyful ones the painful
- 25:11ones confusing ones and the transformative ones
- 25:16identity anchors you when the world tries to
- 25:20rename you Worth steadies you when insecurity
- 25:26tries to diminish you. Calling guides your uncertainty
- 25:37that tries to paralyze you. When these truths
- 25:42work together, something powerful happens. You
- 25:47begin to live with clarity. You begin to live
- 25:51with confidence. You begin to live with purpose.
- 25:55Not striving, not performing, not pretending,
- 25:58but living fully, freely, and faithfully as a
- 26:04person. The person God created you to be. Take
- 26:11a slow breath. Let these truths settle into your
- 26:14spirit. Let them become part of you. As we look
- 26:21ahead to the rest of the 12 -week journey, I
- 26:24want to speak to you, your heart, as your pastor,
- 26:27your guide, and your companion in this process.
- 26:34You're not behind. You're not late. You're not
- 26:38disqualified. You're not forgotten. You're not
- 26:43overlooked. And you're not too broken. And you
- 26:47haven't gone too far this time. You are exactly
- 26:51where God can meet you. God does not rush transformation.
- 26:57He cultivates it, nourishes it, helps it grow
- 27:03slowly, intentionally, but beautifully. Over
- 27:11the next 11 weeks, God is going to deepen things
- 27:14in you. He's going to strengthen things. He's
- 27:19going to awaken things. He's going to heal things.
- 27:25He's going to call things out for you. And he's
- 27:31going to help you find things that you didn't
- 27:34even know about yourself. But they were there
- 27:37all along. This journey is not about perfection.
- 27:43It's not about presence. God's presence is with
- 27:47you. and your presence with him. So as we prepare
- 27:52to close today, I want you to know this. You
- 27:58are stepping into a year of purpose, a year of
- 28:02clarity, a year of growth, a year of becoming,
- 28:06a year of walking with God in a deeper, more
- 28:11intentional way. And it all begins with knowing
- 28:15who you are. Let's take a moment to settle our
- 28:20hearts as we close in prayer. Heavenly Father,
- 28:27we come before you with gratitude for the sacred
- 28:31time we've shared today. Thank you for the way
- 28:35your presence has met us, so gently, yet powerfully
- 28:41and personal. Thank you for speaking truth into
- 28:47places where lies once lived. Thank you for reminding
- 28:51us who we are in you. Beloved, chosen, forgiven,
- 28:59made anew, called, and held. Lord, for every
- 29:08listener who has carried the weight of false
- 29:10identities, I ask that you lift those burdens
- 29:14now. Let every name that didn't come from you
- 29:18fall away. Let every label spoken in pain lose
- 29:23its power. Let every lie that has shaped their
- 29:27story be replaced with your truth. Speak identity
- 29:32into the deepest parts of their hearts, identity
- 29:36that cannot be shaken by circumstance, criticism,
- 29:39or compassion. For those who have struggled to
- 29:44believe they are worthy, wrap them in your love.
- 29:48Let your love settle into the places where insecurity
- 29:52once lived. Let your love heal the wounds that
- 29:57distorted their sense of value. Let your love
- 30:00restore what was broken, revive what was weary,
- 30:06and renew what was lost. For those longing for
- 30:12clarity in their calling, whisper direction.
- 30:17Illuminate the next step. Give them courage to
- 30:21trust you, even when the path is not fully visible.
- 30:27Remind them that calling is not a destination,
- 30:31but a journey. A journey you walk with them,
- 30:36step by step, moment by moment. God, anchor these
- 30:42truths deep within us. Let them shape how we
- 30:45think, how we speak, how we live, and how we
- 30:50love. Let identity become our foundation. Let
- 30:54worth become our confidence. Let calling become
- 30:58our expression of worship. And as we prepare
- 31:02for week two, stir a hunger within us for spiritual
- 31:06rhythms. rhythms that root us, steady us, and
- 31:11draw us closer to your heart. Teach us to pray
- 31:16with honesty, to rest with trust, to listen with
- 31:21stillness, and to open your word with expectation.
- 31:26We give you this year. We give you our hearts.
- 31:30We give you our lives. Do in us what only you
- 31:35can do. In Jesus' name, amen. Thank you for spending
- 31:43this time with us today on Voices of Life. I'm
- 31:47Pastor David, and it has been an honor to walk
- 31:49with you through this first step of our 12 -week
- 31:52journey. Today was deep. It was personal. It
- 31:57was foundational. And if something in your heart
- 32:01feels stirred, a question, a longing, A sense
- 32:07of awakening. I want you to know that's not accidental.
- 32:13That is God beginning a work with you that he
- 32:17fully intends to complete. As you move through
- 32:21your week, I encourage you to revisit the truths
- 32:24we explored today. Speak them over yourself.
- 32:30Write them somewhere. You'll see them each and
- 32:33every day. Pray them out. Let them become the
- 32:38foundation you stand on. Identity is not something
- 32:42you hear once. It is something you return to
- 32:45again and again until it becomes the lens through
- 32:52which you see your life. Next week we step into
- 32:56something incredibly important. Establishing
- 33:00spiritual rhythms for the year. We talk about
- 33:04prayer, scripture, the Sabbath, and silence.
- 33:08The practices that keep our soul steady when
- 33:12life gets loud. Before you go, consider sharing
- 33:16this episode with someone who needs a reminder
- 33:19of their worth. You never know how one invitation
- 33:24can change a life. Whether you're part of the
- 33:28Church for Life family or just joining us. from
- 33:32anywhere in the world, I want you to know this.
- 33:36You're not alone. You are part of a community
- 33:39learning to live with a purpose, hope, and courage.
- 33:45And I'm honored to walk this journey with you.
