- 0:02- Hello, this is your PCJ Pop, I'm Olivia.
- 0:10- And I'm Shauna.
- 0:11- And Shauna, what are you recommending
- 0:14to our listeners this time?
- 0:16- So I have mentioned before in the podcast
- 0:19that I am a big fan of disaster movies
- 0:22and movies where people are stranded alone
- 0:25and in dire situations and have to survive.
- 0:28So I realized it had been a long time
- 0:30since I watched Castaway from the year 2000.
- 0:35And I snapped Olivia while I was watching it
- 0:37because I cried.
- 0:39(laughing)
- 0:40How could you not?
- 0:42Oh my gosh, I forgot how heart-wrenching this movie was.
- 0:46Cast Away came out in the year 2000.
- 0:48It is a survival drama film directed and produced
- 0:51by Robert Zamekis and it is written by William Boyle's
- 0:55Junior, it stars Tom Hanks and Helen Hunt.
- 0:59Tom Hanks is a FedEx troubleshooter
- 1:03who is traveling, that's literally like what his title is.
- 1:07I don't know what a FedEx troubleshooter.
- 1:09- I think he's such an engineer.
- 1:10- It's a FedEx troubleshooter in Wikipedia.
- 1:14- Wow.
- 1:14- Yeah, that's the very official trouble.
- 1:18- Oh, I got from the beginning as works at FedEx,
- 1:20he's really into his job.
- 1:22He has to fly somewhere.
- 1:24And he gives Helen Hunt a little package
- 1:26that we kind of assinuate as a ring before he leaves
- 1:29and says, "We'll open it together
- 1:30when I get back for Christmas."
- 1:32No, his plane crashes and he spins.
- 1:36- Okay, don't spoil the whole movie.
- 1:38- Oh my God, this movie came out 25 years ago
- 1:41in the name of a castaway.
- 1:41- But you're popping it.
- 1:42- You're recommending people watch it.
- 1:45- So the name of the movie is Castaway,
- 1:46he becomes a Castaway.
- 1:48I guess I did need to mention the ring thing.
- 1:51Anyway, very sad movie, very gut-wrenching movie.
- 1:55He becomes a Castaway.
- 1:57- There's a volleyball.
- 2:01- There's a volleyball.
- 2:03- There's a drink.
- 2:04- He eats a lot of coconuts.
- 2:06Olivia, what is your problem?
- 2:08- John, I forgot what these episodes are.
- 2:14Just like, let me tell you the whole plot of the movie.
- 2:17- I got really into it.
- 2:19- This movie's amazing and I wanna watch it again
- 2:21even though it made me cry.
- 2:23- Also, I love how you were like,
- 2:24I forgot how devastating this movie is.
- 2:26A movie about someone being stranded on an island
- 2:29for a long period of time.
- 2:32Yeah, I think that's gonna be very difficult
- 2:35on a human being.
- 2:36- It's so well done though.
- 2:38And I didn't know it was gonna hit me
- 2:39because I remember watching it years ago.
- 2:41And I thought it was sad, but I didn't cry.
- 2:44Maybe it's just 'cause I'm closer to my imminent demise.
- 2:46Now and things make me cry, but it made me sad.
- 2:51- That is a movie.
- 2:51- But it's very well acted movie.
- 2:53Tom Hanks is insane in it.
- 2:54He loses a ton of weight for this role.
- 2:57And I definitely suggest,
- 3:00oh, he was nominated for Best Actor in a leading role
- 3:02in the Academy Awards.
- 3:04He won the Best Actor at the Golden Globes.
- 3:06So definitely gonna suggest you all give that another try.
- 3:10If you haven't watched it in a while.
- 3:12- Yeah, castaways, like a movie where
- 3:14there are other people in it,
- 3:16but very limited amount of time.
- 3:18And it is just a really, really good piece of acting.
- 3:23And that, it's kind of like 127 hours
- 3:27where there's like one person in it.
- 3:29And they really have to carry the emotional gravitas
- 3:33of everything and really-
- 3:34- That's one of my favorite genres in movie
- 3:37is person stranded alone for the majority of the movie
- 3:40and needs to survive or thrive
- 3:43or make it out of some dire situation.
- 3:45- I love that.
- 3:45- Yeah, I love it.
- 3:47Well, mine is also an old movie,
- 3:50but I don't know if it's as dire straits.
- 3:53John and I actually watched this when she was here
- 3:56and it was a good old-fashioned group and a gag.
- 4:00We watched John Tucker must die.
- 4:03And this movie is absolutely like a crazy,
- 4:08crazy movie.
- 4:10Let me see, when did this thing come out?
- 4:12- It should never be made nowadays.
- 4:14It's very offensive in some parts,
- 4:17but it's a product at the time it was made.
- 4:19- Yeah, so John Tucker must die.
- 4:21It came out in 2006.
- 4:23It is absolutely a time capsule of that time period,
- 4:27but it is based on this hot jock
- 4:32on the basketball team who is a player.
- 4:35And he has multiple girlfriends that he is lying to
- 4:41and they all discover that they were dating the same guy
- 4:45at the time and they convince the new girl
- 4:47to help them get revenge on him and break his heart.
- 4:52It's such a time capsule into the high school tropes
- 4:57of the 2000s, the fashion, the, you know, just absolute,
- 5:02like she's a slut.
- 5:04- Yeah, the slut shaming is out of control in this movie.
- 5:08But it stars Jesse Metcalf who at this time,
- 5:11such a total babe.
- 5:13- It's so hot.
- 5:14- So hot in "Dusts for Housewives 2."
- 5:16- He has a shanti aerial kebble.
- 5:20It has Britney Snow.
- 5:22So Fia Bush, somehow they try to make Britney Snow ugly
- 5:25in this, which is a crazy take.
- 5:27And then also Penn Badgley.
- 5:29This is one of his early ones and then Jenny McCarthy.
- 5:32Like you are not missing.
- 5:35If you watch this, just know it's a silly goofy time
- 5:38and we don't not support torturing a man.
- 5:43- I don't not support torturing a man
- 5:46and I don't not support telling everybody
- 5:49that it's her face.
- 5:51(laughing)
- 5:53- I don't support the drugging part of it.
- 5:58When they do that, they put, it is like estrogen, but.
- 6:00- They definitely drug him and it's not cool
- 6:02to spread rumors about people's sexual status
- 6:05but in 2006, it was a funny goofy time.
- 6:08- Yeah, it was a great time.
- 6:10And you get to see Jessie Matt Kaff in his absolute crime.
- 6:13So Fia Bush looks amazing in any time.
- 6:16- Yeah, everybody's adorable in this movie.
- 6:19- Yeah, absolutely.
- 6:20Okay, so for this week, we recommend that you watch Castaway.
- 6:24Where'd you watch it?
- 6:26- I watched it on Prime.
- 6:28- Perfect.
- 6:29So we recommend that you watch Cast Away
- 6:31on Amazon Prime and then check out
- 6:34John Tucker must die on Hulu.
- 6:36And that's it for your PCJ Pop.
