- 0:28Good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30We have new eggs hatching inside, very exciting day.
- 0:34So what do you think the most common question I get asked as a
- 0:39coach would be Those people, you know, think about coaching and
- 0:43they think well, it's, you know, you come in and you do certain
- 0:46things and, you know, I have goals and you're going to help
- 0:48me achieve my goals. But out of all of this, there's
- 0:52lots of other things that happen and we deal with lots of types
- 0:55of directions in coaching sessions.
- 0:57But the most common question that comes up is, well, how do I
- 1:01stop doing that? How do I get out of my own way?
- 1:04You know, that, in that framework of it.
- 1:06How do I stop having those thoughts?
- 1:09How do I stop having those? Habits, how do I stop myself?
- 1:13Is really what it comes down to the most common questions and
- 1:18the very first thing everybody wants to know in that in that
- 1:23framework is what I want to be able to do it right away.
- 1:26And the very first thing I have to tell them is this is a
- 1:30process healthy thinking is a process healthy thinking is a
- 1:35habit. It's a habit.
- 1:37You regularly have to cultivate you have to think of this like
- 1:41Brushing your teeth. You have to think of this like
- 1:43working out, you have to think of this like eating and going to
- 1:46the bathroom. It's all part of the same scope.
- 1:50You go to the gym, you don't go in and lift weight once and hope
- 1:53it works. You go in and you have to do it
- 1:55every day. You know, I had this intense
- 1:58desire years ago to get my body into a really great rhythm of
- 2:04being like, long endurance for walking whatever it is, lowering
- 2:09my blood pressure, walking lower, Everything and I had to
- 2:14walk more than 4,000 5,000 steps a day.
- 2:18And now regularly I walk between twenty and twenty seven thousand
- 2:22steps a day. Yes you heard that right between
- 2:25twenty and twenty seven thousand steps a day.
- 2:28So when I will tell people that I monitor that and have a Fitbit
- 2:31on everything else and they try it, they're like, oh my God,
- 2:35that's so much. Well of course it is because
- 2:37you're trying it from zero and I'm doing it from work.
- 2:41On my way to that point out of habit and it's the same thing
- 2:45with mindset. It's the same thing with
- 2:48understanding this procedure of well, how do I stop doing that?
- 2:52And the very first thing that you have to recognize is owning
- 2:56the problem. The first step in it is owning
- 2:59the problem I do this and I don't like it and acknowledging
- 3:04not making excuses for. It doesn't matter why we do the
- 3:07things we do. We have to say, I don't want to
- 3:10do this. The more I don't like it and
- 3:13maybe you like the habit of whatever it is that you're
- 3:15doing, but you don't like the result it comes with.
- 3:19And that is my friends, the motivator right there.
- 3:23If the say, if I don't like this, then I've got to do
- 3:26something about it. I've got to change my habit with
- 3:29it and we all myself included throughout your life.
- 3:33You will have things that are good and then you will have
- 3:35things that go awry. You'll have things that work.
- 3:37You'll have other habits that show up.
- 3:38You'll get rid of something. Something else will come up.
- 3:41And that's just part of the human condition because we are
- 3:44all wired to constantly grow and solve problems.
- 3:48Human beings are problem solvers.
- 3:50Yes, we are problem creators. And we are problem solvers.
- 3:53So, that's what makes our brains light up and have us be on fire.
- 3:58That's what makes us be the creative, you know, force that
- 4:04we are to be reckoned with and accepting that is huge being
- 4:08aware of it is huge and then Into yourself.
- 4:11Well, you know what? I don't like this.
- 4:14I don't like this about myself and I want to change it.
- 4:17You know, there's a power in, not liking everything about
- 4:20yourself. And I know in today's world and
- 4:24environment and the ecosystem that we are currently living in,
- 4:27that isn't always politically correct to say but there's power
- 4:31in it. There's power in, not liking
- 4:32something. If you don't like the fact that
- 4:35you don't feel good when you can't get up and you can't do
- 4:38certain things, do something about it.
- 4:41It if you don't like the fact that you don't feel like you're
- 4:45putting in enough time for yourself, then do something
- 4:48about it. If you don't like the fact that
- 4:50you're too habitually used to having a two glasses of wine,
- 4:54every single night and you know that, even if you're working out
- 4:57during the day, that's taking away.
- 5:00All your Forward Motion, all your forward momentum, is being
- 5:03taken away by the fact that the two glasses of wine can undo a
- 5:07ton of exercise. So, You are the only one that
- 5:12can change it and do something about it.
- 5:13And the very first part of it is in that equation when someone
- 5:17says, well I don't know how to stop.
- 5:18The first thing is acknowledge that you don't like it and when
- 5:24you take on that acknowledgement, then the other
- 5:27piece is starting to play. I don't like that about myself,
- 5:30okay. I'm going to do something about
- 5:32it. What's the next thing that I can
- 5:34possibly do? Well, the next thing is to
- 5:36recognize, you're going to have to course-correct a lot and I
- 5:40mean a lot. Not because it is again,
- 5:43interrupting, a pattern. So you have to repeatedly.
- 5:46Stop yourself. When you have bitch, ually grab
- 5:49the bottle of wine. When you see yourself sitting
- 5:52there, and you haven't gotten up from the desk for a long time,
- 5:56you have to be the one that says, okay, I'm going to put a
- 5:58net around myself. I'm going to call myself out.
- 6:01I'm going to push myself to do something different set.
- 6:04Timers on your phone, leave. Sticky notes for yourself, hang
- 6:08clothes on your refrigerator. If you're trying to get to a
- 6:10healthy. The weight.
- 6:11And you know, you've got a pair of jeans, you want to fit in,
- 6:14I'm not joking. Hang them on your refrigerator,
- 6:16put them where you can see them, make yourself.
- 6:18Try them on every morning. I did that when I couldn't fit
- 6:21into the clothes that I loved anymore after living here for a
- 6:24while and eating so much delicious food.
- 6:27Yes, what? I put every day before, I got
- 6:30dressed, I would try the shorts on every single day to remind my
- 6:35ass that I needed to make sure I kept moving it.
- 6:38So you have to make decisions. It's incremental decisions and
- 6:43incremental course Corrections are.
- 6:45What absolutely without doubt, move you forward?
- 6:49And if you're committed to that process you can get somewhere.
- 6:52So I hope that this was helpful. I hope this wakes you up and
- 6:55gets you moving and I hope you realize that your question of
- 6:58the, you know, how do I stop it? Is just like everybody else and
- 7:03everybody else is working on it, too.
- 7:05All right, my friends. I hope you have a blessed day
- 7:07and I will see you tomorrow. Bye.
