- 0:00Speaker 1: Ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls. At your favorite time
- 0:02Speaker 1: of week.
- 0:03Speaker 2: You download the Crazy sheet, You get you something to drink,
- 0:05Speaker 2: go for a walk, go for.
- 0:06Speaker 1: A drive, sit at your desk. We don't care.
- 0:09Speaker 2: I'm Mark, I'm here in the podcasting studio, Scotties at home,
- 0:12Speaker 2: and brother, we are ready to talk about the Big Twelve.
- 0:15Speaker 1: How are you, man?
- 0:17Speaker 3: Man, I'm good.
- 0:18Speaker 4: Big twelve a bunch of changes in this league. I mean,
- 0:21Speaker 4: they have really positioned themselves as a as the next conference.
- 0:26Speaker 4: And if they slide in Clemson in Florida State, which
- 0:30Speaker 4: by all accounts it looks like they are, boy, that's
- 0:33Speaker 4: a that's just another feather in their cap. How fired
- 0:36Speaker 4: up do you think West Virginia and ucf R that
- 0:41Speaker 4: Florida State and Clemson may be sliding over. That's two
- 0:44Speaker 4: more schools on your side of the country that are
- 0:46Speaker 4: marquee schools that let you go out and that just
- 0:48Speaker 4: legitimizes you're recruiting a little bit. So I like what
- 0:52Speaker 4: the Big twelve. Big twelve commissioners aggressive. I like it
- 0:55Speaker 4: trying to go get private equity. I will tell you
- 0:59Speaker 4: I'm not a private equity fan. They have screwed up
- 1:04Speaker 4: the furniture business as bad as you can screw it up.
- 1:06Speaker 4: Everything they touch is a disaster, but they make money
- 1:10Speaker 4: and I have a feeling college sports will be a very,
- 1:14Speaker 4: very similar outcome. But it is extremely aggressive on his
- 1:19Speaker 4: part to go out and look at bringing in pe
- 1:23Speaker 4: money to run your conference because you are a step
- 1:30Speaker 4: behind the Big ten in the SEC and the only
- 1:33Speaker 4: way you're going to fix that is money, and nobody's
- 1:35Speaker 4: got more of it than private equity. It's aggressive, it's
- 1:38Speaker 4: a risk, but I candidly I really like it. The
- 1:42Speaker 4: college sports needs more people that think outside the box
- 1:46Speaker 4: instead of always doing it the right way.
- 1:48Speaker 3: So I really like what's going on in this conference.
- 1:50Speaker 2: I think brett or Mark, he's the commission of the
- 1:53Speaker 2: Big twelve. If you don't know that he's been outside
- 1:55Speaker 2: the box for a while, you know he's a media guy,
- 1:58Speaker 2: and he came in day one and said, hey, we're
- 2:01Speaker 2: going to do things differently and shake things up. And hell,
- 2:04Speaker 2: had had the PAC twelve hired him, they might still
- 2:08Speaker 2: be in existence.
- 2:09Speaker 1: But here we are and we don't have to worry
- 2:10Speaker 1: about that.
- 2:11Speaker 2: Scott Big twelve man bringing in what we had left
- 2:16Speaker 2: from the PAC twelve. We catch both of the Arizona schools.
- 2:19Speaker 2: We got Outah, we got prime time in Colorado, You've
- 2:23Speaker 2: got BYU came in last year, which means you know what, brother,
- 2:27Speaker 2: that means the Holy Wars back on the schedule every
- 2:30Speaker 2: year from now on, which I'm kind of excited about that.
- 2:33Speaker 4: I'm really excited about that. That game was that game's passionate.
- 2:36Speaker 4: Oh yeah, and there know that there's probably a lot
- 2:39Speaker 4: of people have no idea where those schools are. Haven't
- 2:41Speaker 4: been there minus going to Park City. They've flown into
- 2:44Speaker 4: Salt Lake and driven up. Now it's like a thirty
- 2:46Speaker 4: five minute drive forty five probably worst case, it is
- 2:51Speaker 4: not very far from each one of those campuses, and
- 2:54Speaker 4: you don't know, you never leave a town. You feel
- 2:56Speaker 4: like you're still in town the entire time. So it's
- 3:00Speaker 4: a I think that is great to get that rivalry
- 3:04Speaker 4: back on board this league.
- 3:06Speaker 3: This year to me is.
- 3:08Speaker 4: Really interesting because I think it reminds me of candidly
- 3:13Speaker 4: the Southeastern Conference and that you've got a chunk of
- 3:16Speaker 4: teams that I think are better, then you got a
- 3:20Speaker 4: dunk in the middle, and then you got a big
- 3:22Speaker 4: chunk at the bottom, and is always who's going to
- 3:27Speaker 4: separate themselves out of those chunks, meaning who's that mid
- 3:32Speaker 4: tier guy who steps up? Because there's always somebody and
- 3:35Speaker 4: there's going to be. There's too many mid level and
- 3:38Speaker 4: what I think are bad teams in this league for
- 3:41Speaker 4: somebody to not step forward. And I think the same
- 3:44Speaker 4: thing's true in that bottom half. There'll be somebody that
- 3:46Speaker 4: steps forward and does a good job there. So I'm
- 3:49Speaker 4: fascinated by this league this year. Think Utah it's gonna
- 3:52Speaker 4: be a good football team. Excited to see the quarterback play,
- 3:56Speaker 4: especially as good as the Kansas State quarterback play was
- 3:59Speaker 4: last year. You know, they got a kid who is
- 4:01Speaker 4: supposedly a rocket ship on on the legs. They are
- 4:05Speaker 4: talking about him being one of the most explosive, inciting, exciting.
- 4:09Speaker 3: Players in the league.
- 4:10Speaker 4: You got the leading running back in the league coming
- 4:13Speaker 4: back at Oklahoma State, Iowa State, as Iowa State overcoming
- 4:17Speaker 4: that gambling deal. When those guys came back, they were
- 4:19Speaker 4: a good football team last year. A lot of guys
- 4:22Speaker 4: back up in aims, So I mean, I think it's fun.
- 4:24Speaker 4: Then he got Arizona coming in and and candidly, that's
- 4:27Speaker 4: probably one of the best six teams in the Country.
- 4:30Speaker 4: They don't gag that game at Mississippi State. If they
- 4:32Speaker 4: have made the quarterback switch earlier and win that football game,
- 4:35Speaker 4: those guys may have been in the group of six
- 4:37Speaker 4: ball games.
- 4:38Speaker 3: I mean, they were a good football team.
- 4:41Speaker 4: They were a good football team, and they got a
- 4:43Speaker 4: ton of people back, and I.
- 4:44Speaker 3: Really liked their coach. So that is a that's an
- 4:48Speaker 3: exciting deal.
- 4:48Speaker 4: And then I hadn't even talked about West Virginia TCU.
- 4:52Speaker 4: You know, Kansas Techs got tons of guys back. UCS
- 4:56Speaker 4: got a great quarterback transfer and a good fit for
- 4:59Speaker 4: Gus Bus. Gus Buss has gotten a lot more depth
- 5:02Speaker 4: than he had last year. Boy, there's some teams that
- 5:05Speaker 4: I think this is gonna be an exciting league and
- 5:06Speaker 4: a fun league to watch.
- 5:08Speaker 1: I completely agree.
- 5:10Speaker 2: You got two of the most tenured coaches in college
- 5:12Speaker 2: football are both in the Big twelve, Gundy and Kyle Whittingham,
- 5:17Speaker 2: and those guys play each other this year. I think
- 5:19Speaker 2: they've got two of the best rosters in this league.
- 5:22Speaker 2: They're bringing a ton of talent back. And then with
- 5:25Speaker 2: the new teams that you mix in. I don't know
- 5:26Speaker 2: if you saw this last night, but Sunny Dyke's confirmed
- 5:29Speaker 2: that he brought in two old head coaches to add
- 5:32Speaker 2: to his staff. He brought in Dana Hologram and my
- 5:35Speaker 2: main man, dickhead Todd Graham is gonna be on the
- 5:38Speaker 2: TCU coaching.
- 5:39Speaker 1: Staff this year?
- 5:40Speaker 3: Are you kidding me?
- 5:41Speaker 4: I did not, So I didn't know about Holograham. I
- 5:44Speaker 4: did not see about Graham, which candidly, if there's a
- 5:48Speaker 4: bigger douche in college sports than him, you're gonna have
- 5:51Speaker 4: to show me.
- 5:52Speaker 3: I mean, holy.
- 5:53Speaker 4: Smokes, that guy has. He has left some jobs in
- 5:58Speaker 4: a very very bad way. He's to take better jobs
- 6:01Speaker 4: and then left some pretty good jobs, I e. Arizona
- 6:05Speaker 4: and a complete nuttered dumpster I mean Arizona State and
- 6:08Speaker 4: a complete nuttered dumpster fire. So wow, that's an interesting
- 6:12Speaker 4: that's an interesting bring in. But Dyke's is, you know,
- 6:15Speaker 4: from a football family, and I think they all kind
- 6:18Speaker 4: of stick together. No, I agree, And obviously hen he
- 6:21Speaker 4: and Hologram were on the staff together with the Witch
- 6:24Speaker 4: as well.
- 6:24Speaker 2: Yeah, they've known each other probably their entire coaching careers.
- 6:28Speaker 2: And frankly, I got no problem with Dana Hologram. I mean,
- 6:31Speaker 2: the guy's he's wild, he's WEIRDO. I think there's a
- 6:34Speaker 2: spot for him in sports, and he's made something.
- 6:36Speaker 4: Like he's a better assistant coach than he is a coach.
- 6:38Speaker 2: Probably, so like if you know, and so it's a
- 6:42Speaker 2: it's interesting. And I've i haven't played craps with him
- 6:46Speaker 2: at the Nugget, but I've been craps adjacent to him
- 6:48Speaker 2: at the Nugget, and uh my man, he's not scared
- 6:51Speaker 2: to roll out with a herd of hurdle ladies to
- 6:53Speaker 2: get him some some craps playing going out there and
- 6:57Speaker 2: smoke some black and miles, just letting you know, just
- 6:59Speaker 2: put like that.
- 7:00Speaker 4: He likes the cocktail, he likes to chase the girls.
- 7:04Speaker 4: I mean, it's a I've heard some great stories. I
- 7:06Speaker 4: know somebody lived in the building as him that have
- 7:10Speaker 4: got some fabulous stories.
- 7:11Speaker 2: So all right, moving on to college football that we've
- 7:14Speaker 2: got here, Big twelve is what we're going to dive into.
- 7:16Speaker 2: The conference is kind of interesting. You could argue that
- 7:19Speaker 2: it is the fourth rank Power five or Power four
- 7:21Speaker 2: conference right now behind the ACC or you could slide
- 7:24Speaker 2: it above, but you're guaranteed, because they still are one
- 7:28Speaker 2: of the power conferences, you're guaranteed at least one slot
- 7:32Speaker 2: into the College Football National Championship Tournament. So that's a
- 7:37Speaker 2: big deal because you can get some really big odds
- 7:39Speaker 2: on these teams to create a hedge for yourself. Depending
- 7:42Speaker 2: on how they turn out, you could get that large
- 7:44Speaker 2: bit out of this conference. A lot of people don't
- 7:47Speaker 2: think you're going to. I think you might have a
- 7:49Speaker 2: shot to get two teams in. We're just gonna have
- 7:51Speaker 2: to see how these things play out as the season
- 7:53Speaker 2: eats itself up. But Scott, let's dive in like we've
- 7:57Speaker 2: done every single week that we've done. This is now
- 8:00Speaker 2: our third conference. Let's just go alphabetical. We'll roll through
- 8:03Speaker 2: what we've got here, starting out West and two of
- 8:05Speaker 2: the new teams that we bring in, the Arizona Wildcats
- 8:08Speaker 2: come in here, bringing in a new coach, Brent Brennan's
- 8:11Speaker 2: coming over from San Jose State. He does bring back
- 8:14Speaker 2: the quarterback, No Off Fafita, and he brings back one
- 8:17Speaker 2: of the offensive linemen. The the brings back another Marque
- 8:20Speaker 2: player on the defensive side, Jacob Mneus coming back as well.
- 8:25Speaker 2: I thought he was real close to losing a lot
- 8:27Speaker 2: of these guys as they were following everybody up to Washington.
- 8:29Speaker 2: But I think bringing Fafita back is a big deal.
- 8:33Speaker 2: And I don't know that people realize how difficult that
- 8:35Speaker 2: San Jose State job is, and Brendan did a really
- 8:39Speaker 2: good job there. And when you look at their schedule
- 8:42Speaker 2: diving into the season, it's I mean, they go to
- 8:44Speaker 2: Kansas State, they go to Utah, they go to BYU,
- 8:48Speaker 2: they got to travel to Florida and TCU. The schedule
- 8:50Speaker 2: is not easy by any stretch of the imagination. This
- 8:53Speaker 2: team over performed last year, going ten to three, seven
- 8:56Speaker 2: and two in the Pac Twelve. I've got this team
- 8:59Speaker 2: right in the of my Big twelve predictions. But I
- 9:02Speaker 2: know you got a little bit of a chub for
- 9:04Speaker 2: this Arizona Wildcat team.
- 9:06Speaker 3: Dude.
- 9:06Speaker 4: I just think this is a really good fit for
- 9:09Speaker 4: what they're gonna do. I thought Brendan did a pretty
- 9:11Speaker 4: good job at San Jose State, which is one of
- 9:14Speaker 4: the most difficult jobs in the country, I mean, an
- 9:17Speaker 4: absolutely brutal job, and I thought he actually did a
- 9:20Speaker 4: pretty good job out there.
- 9:22Speaker 3: Here he walks into a program that you can win.
- 9:25Speaker 4: And then he inherits a roster that fits what he
- 9:29Speaker 4: wants to try to do on offense. Look, I do
- 9:31Speaker 4: Fafita is a great player. I mean, he had a
- 9:34Speaker 4: wonderful year when he came in last year. But I
- 9:38Speaker 4: want to talk about their two wide receivers first. I
- 9:40Speaker 4: think McMillan is one of my That guy has got
- 9:45Speaker 4: a phenomenal wide receiver body. He just looks like a player.
- 9:49Speaker 4: I mean, he's the kind of dudes you want coming
- 9:51Speaker 4: out of locker room early. Even though he's an athlete, buddy,
- 9:55Speaker 4: he looks like a player and he's hard to cover.
- 9:57Speaker 3: The guy makes plays.
- 9:58Speaker 4: And then Lamonious Craig, who came over from Colorado last year,
- 10:02Speaker 4: did a great job for him as well. Both those
- 10:05Speaker 4: guys made a lot of plays for that football team,
- 10:08Speaker 4: and I think they're going to continue to do it
- 10:10Speaker 4: again this year.
- 10:10Speaker 3: And they return.
- 10:11Speaker 4: Enough on the offensive line, because that was a really
- 10:13Speaker 4: good offensive line. Had a couple of guys go to
- 10:15Speaker 4: the NFL, but they return enough, and then they go
- 10:18Speaker 4: get one of the leading running backs in the Mountain
- 10:20Speaker 4: West from New Mexico to come down and shore up
- 10:23Speaker 4: their running games. So I like this team. I think
- 10:26Speaker 4: this is gonna be a good football team. They got
- 10:28Speaker 4: enough back on defense as explosive as this offense is
- 10:31Speaker 4: going to be that. I think they're going to be
- 10:32Speaker 4: able to keep them in ball games. They did return
- 10:35Speaker 4: some good guys. They also went hit the portal pretty
- 10:39Speaker 4: good bit when got some junior college guys as well.
- 10:41Speaker 3: So I like this team overall. I just think it's
- 10:43Speaker 3: a really really good fit.
- 10:44Speaker 4: I expect them to be one of the best teams
- 10:47Speaker 4: in the league. He got an outside shot to win
- 10:50Speaker 4: this league because again, top two teams go. I like
- 10:54Speaker 4: this roster. They do play some really really good teams.
- 10:58Speaker 4: They have five road games games, which is the way
- 11:01Speaker 4: this conference shakes out. That's the unfortunate part when you
- 11:04Speaker 4: start looking at championships, winning the league, things like that.
- 11:08Speaker 4: And I do think four of their road games are
- 11:11Speaker 4: really all five because I think BYU is better than
- 11:14Speaker 4: I think some people are gonna think. But four of
- 11:16Speaker 4: those road games are gonna be are gonna be really tough.
- 11:19Speaker 4: They're at Case, they at Utah, at UCF, at TCU.
- 11:22Speaker 4: Those are gonna be better teams in this league, so
- 11:25Speaker 4: it's gonna be tough to win those. But I think
- 11:27Speaker 4: all of their own games are extremely manageable, so they
- 11:30Speaker 4: should win them. I think the basement for this team
- 11:33Speaker 4: is an eight and four. I ain't ten and three.
- 11:35Speaker 4: You know, ten and two is a legitimate option that
- 11:38Speaker 4: this team performs like. I think they're capable of. Nine
- 11:42Speaker 4: and three is probably a pretty good number. I don't
- 11:43Speaker 4: think they lose every road game. I think they probably
- 11:47Speaker 4: win a couple of those. They're probably gonna lose two
- 11:50Speaker 4: or three and so I think this is eight and four,
- 11:52Speaker 4: nine and three kind of football team.
- 11:56Speaker 2: Yeah, seven and half pretty much even money is which
- 12:00Speaker 2: you can bet them at if you want to take
- 12:01Speaker 2: the over under wind totals on that. I would tell
- 12:03Speaker 2: you that numbers about right because I agree with you
- 12:05Speaker 2: their road slate. They could get thumped blanked on the road.
- 12:08Speaker 1: They could, I mean.
- 12:09Speaker 2: Realistically because even that travel spot to BYU, they should
- 12:13Speaker 2: win that game. But that you know, going to Orlando
- 12:15Speaker 2: in November, bro, that's a long trip when you're basically
- 12:20Speaker 2: coming from No Gallus or Tucson to get over there.
- 12:23Speaker 1: But I like them.
- 12:25Speaker 2: I'm excited to see her as on to play. I'm
- 12:26Speaker 2: gonna kind of wait and wait into this season. Last year,
- 12:28Speaker 2: they're luck rating. If you follow anything about you know
- 12:31Speaker 2: luck rating the teams, it was pretty high.
- 12:33Speaker 1: They very much.
- 12:34Speaker 2: Overperformed last year Jedfish used had to poll bolt himself
- 12:37Speaker 2: into the Washington job. But because they stayed, I think
- 12:39Speaker 2: the rosters in better shape than what a lot of
- 12:41Speaker 2: people think.
- 12:42Speaker 1: It is.
- 12:42Speaker 2: Seven and a half seems about right. If you want
- 12:44Speaker 2: to take them to win the conference championship. You're getting
- 12:47Speaker 2: it at eleven hundred. Might be worth some pizza money
- 12:49Speaker 2: if you want to put it out there.
- 12:51Speaker 3: Staying in the state, hold on before we vacate them.
- 12:53Speaker 4: On that over on the luck total, because I do
- 12:56Speaker 4: pay attention that close.
- 12:57Speaker 3: Wins, close losses, things like that.
- 12:59Speaker 4: One of the all bounces against you, it usually bounces
- 13:03Speaker 4: your way the next year.
- 13:04Speaker 3: The same thing with injuries. You watch a team that loses.
- 13:07Speaker 4: You'll see teams and they got they lost twenty starts
- 13:09Speaker 4: to injury. Well, let me tell you what's coming the
- 13:11Speaker 4: next year, the injury bug. You just don't get lucky
- 13:15Speaker 4: two years in a row. People are gonna get falling on.
- 13:18Speaker 4: They're gonna slip and blow a knee out. I mean,
- 13:20Speaker 4: it just happens. I mean it is sports, and that's
- 13:24Speaker 4: just kind of the deal. Look, I know trainers can
- 13:26Speaker 4: help reduce injuries with an outstanding strength coach, but they
- 13:29Speaker 4: can't prevent them. I mean, it's just this is a
- 13:31Speaker 4: full contact game and you're playing a lot on a
- 13:34Speaker 4: grass surface, so a lot of things can happen. I
- 13:36Speaker 4: will tell you they lost two games they should have won.
- 13:39Speaker 4: I ain't are better of Missipi State. I know they
- 13:40Speaker 4: are a better in state, and I think they were
- 13:43Speaker 4: better than USC. They should have won that football game,
- 13:47Speaker 4: So I would tell you they got a little unlucky
- 13:49Speaker 4: in both of those ball games too, So I think
- 13:52Speaker 4: that kind of equals itself out. But I do like
- 13:54Speaker 4: this team, but I agree with you. They could go
- 13:56Speaker 4: zero to five on the road. Is the only reason
- 13:59Speaker 4: I really high on this football team.
- 14:02Speaker 2: Staying in Arizona, We'll move over to Tempee. We got
- 14:05Speaker 2: the Arizona State Sun Devils. Man, this is a great
- 14:08Speaker 2: If you've never been to a game at Arizona State,
- 14:10Speaker 2: I highly recommend going. Get you in around a golf
- 14:13Speaker 2: bring your party, bone, brother, because they throw it down
- 14:16Speaker 2: INSU and I'm all for it. Four them up, bro,
- 14:20Speaker 2: bring it back Dillingham for his second year. This roster
- 14:24Speaker 2: is a hard reboot from what he's got last year.
- 14:26Speaker 2: Looking at the predictions, you better hope they evaluated the
- 14:29Speaker 2: transfer portal. Well from what they brought in off of
- 14:31Speaker 2: this team. Last year, this team was three and nine.
- 14:33Speaker 2: They went two and seven in the PAC twelve over
- 14:36Speaker 2: under win total currently sitting at four and a half.
- 14:38Speaker 2: Odds to win the conference are all the way up there,
- 14:41Speaker 2: one of the worst teams in there, plus Gody to
- 14:44Speaker 2: one hundred to one if you want to win the
- 14:45Speaker 2: conference in that one. If I'm reading it correctly, I
- 14:48Speaker 2: don't think this team has a chance to win the conference.
- 14:50Speaker 2: I think this team might could get bowligible because if
- 14:53Speaker 2: you look at the schedule Wyoming again, new coaching staff
- 14:57Speaker 2: that you got in there, Mississippi State travels there.
- 15:00Speaker 1: It's gonna be hottest balls in that game.
- 15:02Speaker 3: The new coaching staff.
- 15:03Speaker 2: Coaching staff at Texas State, which I actually think Texas
- 15:06Speaker 2: State is gonna win the Sun Belt.
- 15:07Speaker 1: I'm gonna be good, but that's talent levels below them.
- 15:10Speaker 2: And then they go to Texas Tech, so Kansas, you know,
- 15:14Speaker 2: I mean the games they catch since I don't know
- 15:16Speaker 2: they I look at this schedule and I can find
- 15:19Speaker 2: five or six wins, But I am having a hard
- 15:21Speaker 2: time diving into Azon State being like this is where
- 15:24Speaker 2: I'm gonna put my flag in my money on getting
- 15:26Speaker 2: ready to watch them try to get over a four
- 15:28Speaker 2: and a half wins this season.
- 15:30Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm out, you know. That's the that's the difference.
- 15:34Speaker 3: Scataboo is a good, good running back man. He is
- 15:38Speaker 3: that kid.
- 15:38Speaker 4: Runs hard, He's built like a fire hydrant, five to
- 15:41Speaker 4: ten to two in a quarter, hard to bring down.
- 15:44Speaker 4: He can get some tough yards. He had a great
- 15:45Speaker 4: game against Washington last year. Uh and all most helped
- 15:49Speaker 4: him get get it upset there. But the bottom line is,
- 15:52Speaker 4: I think Dillingham still got work to do.
- 15:55Speaker 3: This is a tougher job than.
- 15:57Speaker 4: I think people give it credit for because it's such
- 16:01Speaker 4: a party school. It's such a wonder beautiful you know.
- 16:04Speaker 4: I love at Phoenix Scottsdale area. It's just a beautiful,
- 16:09Speaker 4: beautiful area. Great you know, great area. There's girls everywhere.
- 16:13Speaker 3: You think.
- 16:14Speaker 4: You look at it and you're like, man, they ought
- 16:15Speaker 4: to be great every year. But at the end of
- 16:18Speaker 4: the day, Arizona's not putting out enough talent to support them,
- 16:21Speaker 4: and Arizona State there's I mean them in Arizona they're
- 16:24Speaker 4: splitting it. And then when there's great players like Spencer Ratler,
- 16:28Speaker 4: they're gone to somewhere really really big. So it's a
- 16:31Speaker 4: you know, that's that's what the difficulty with these two
- 16:34Speaker 4: jobs are. If they got to recruit into southern California,
- 16:38Speaker 4: which with the mess that UCLA is, you would think
- 16:40Speaker 4: that is really helping them at this point. So I
- 16:43Speaker 4: just I'm just mad on this football team. I think
- 16:46Speaker 4: Mississippi State game is a huge game for both those teams.
- 16:48Speaker 3: I said it on State's review.
- 16:50Speaker 4: I ain't that is really going to determine whether this
- 16:53Speaker 4: team gets over or under on their win total, but
- 16:56Speaker 4: I could I see them getting Bowl eligible one hundred percent.
- 16:59Speaker 4: Can't see much above that State game is a huge
- 17:02Speaker 4: game for them and for State.
- 17:04Speaker 2: Now, yeah, I agree, I'm gonna hide and watch on
- 17:06Speaker 2: Arizona State.
- 17:07Speaker 1: I don't have a hard opinion on them.
- 17:08Speaker 2: Moving over to my Baylor Bears, my alma manor teams
- 17:11Speaker 2: three and nine last year, two and seven in the
- 17:14Speaker 2: Big Twelve, and this roster is not great. Talk to
- 17:19Speaker 2: a guy the other day who told me that he
- 17:21Speaker 2: was standing next to coach Patterson, and Patterson you know
- 17:25Speaker 2: the I don't even think as an analyst on this
- 17:27Speaker 2: role as his old coach at TC. If you don't
- 17:29Speaker 2: know and he made the comment that this was the
- 17:31Speaker 2: least athletic cross tree he's seen at the Power five
- 17:33Speaker 2: level since he started coaching.
- 17:36Speaker 1: They bring in Takedai Kwon Finn who.
- 17:38Speaker 2: Transferred over from Toledo Mac player of the Year Sawer
- 17:41Speaker 2: Robertson was never able to kind of secure that job
- 17:43Speaker 2: in the coaching spot. Offensive line last year, you had
- 17:47Speaker 2: a turnstyle of players that went through there. Probably their
- 17:51Speaker 2: biggest mark marquee name that they bring back on this
- 17:54Speaker 2: rosters Monterey Baldwin, the wide receiver, and he is good.
- 17:57Speaker 2: He's got definitely a chance to play in the NFL.
- 18:00Speaker 2: But this you've got a new offensive coordinators coming in here.
- 18:03Speaker 2: Dave Randa has said he's gonna step in and he's
- 18:05Speaker 2: gonna call the defense. This is a win this year
- 18:08Speaker 2: or you're done. And I'm not saying win the Natty.
- 18:10Speaker 2: I'm saying they got to get to six wins. And
- 18:12Speaker 2: the interesting thing with Baylor that I can't quite figure
- 18:14Speaker 2: out is on if you're following them on recruiting at all,
- 18:17Speaker 2: they're getting all these recruiting flips this last week. So
- 18:20Speaker 2: somebody must have brought the money truck in to start
- 18:23Speaker 2: flipping these kids.
- 18:24Speaker 1: To come to Baylor.
- 18:25Speaker 2: But this has been a program ever since we've had
- 18:27Speaker 2: Brile's in rule Randa. I just don't think he had
- 18:30Speaker 2: the charisma to bring this thing back. They open up
- 18:33Speaker 2: the season with Tarleton. You think that's a win, but
- 18:36Speaker 2: they got thump last year by Texas State. They go
- 18:39Speaker 2: to Utah, which is not a conference game, just a
- 18:42Speaker 2: heads up, but they play at Rice Eycles.
- 18:44Speaker 1: They lose.
- 18:44Speaker 2: Their air force comes in, which is always going to
- 18:47Speaker 2: be a challenge. Then they have to go back to
- 18:49Speaker 2: altitude to play Colorado. I can't see this team getting there.
- 18:53Speaker 2: Over under win total for the Baylor Bearriers is over
- 18:56Speaker 2: five and a half shaded one point fifteen. Odds to
- 19:00Speaker 2: win the conference is way down there at sixty to one.
- 19:04Speaker 2: I'm under five and a half wins with this roster.
- 19:06Speaker 1: I can't.
- 19:07Speaker 2: I can see this team easily being one in four
- 19:12Speaker 2: headed into the one and three, headed into the Bayu game.
- 19:15Speaker 4: Personally, yeah, me too. I can soon being one and three.
- 19:18Speaker 4: The best case they're two and two that they could.
- 19:25Speaker 4: I just man, this team, buddy, there's some I think
- 19:29Speaker 4: there's some bad. I think there's some bad. There's some
- 19:32Speaker 4: bad mojo here. I can see those dud one and
- 19:34Speaker 4: five through Iowa State. Yeah, they better figure out a
- 19:38Speaker 4: way to win at Colorado or air Force at home.
- 19:41Speaker 4: They have to win one or both of those games,
- 19:45Speaker 4: because it doesn't get any easier. You're off week and
- 19:47Speaker 4: you're at Tech. They're gonna be a dog at Tech.
- 19:49Speaker 3: Oh, I got a oaklo on.
- 19:50Speaker 4: The State at home dog, TCU at home dog, And
- 19:53Speaker 4: I understand this is a that's a big game off
- 19:56Speaker 4: week at West Virginia dog at Houston. Should Kansas at home?
- 20:01Speaker 4: Likely an underdog? I mean that is man that sets
- 20:05Speaker 4: up for three and nine, four and eight. Again, if
- 20:07Speaker 4: you ask me, I'm down on this team too. I
- 20:09Speaker 4: ain't gonna get the six wins. Miranda's done a good job.
- 20:12Speaker 4: But I will also tell you I don't think six
- 20:14Speaker 4: wins saves this job.
- 20:15Speaker 1: I don't know that.
- 20:16Speaker 2: I wouldn't be surprised if Random makes it through the season.
- 20:18Speaker 2: I could see them ushering him out after the Oklahoma
- 20:21Speaker 2: State game if things are not going well, or even
- 20:24Speaker 2: wherever the bye week is. It's in there possibly then,
- 20:27Speaker 2: but that would be after a loss to TCU.
- 20:29Speaker 4: But anyway, how much juice would there be if he's
- 20:34Speaker 4: fired and Gary p takes over as the interim and
- 20:39Speaker 4: rolls up to Fort Worth, I mean Fort Worth rolls
- 20:42Speaker 4: in in the Waco for that game. That would be fascinating.
- 20:46Speaker 4: I mean, you talk about fascinating.
- 20:47Speaker 2: So if they if they fire him before the TCU game,
- 20:51Speaker 2: I'll make this prediction now because if you remember Gary
- 20:54Speaker 2: Patterson fact, Gary got fired at TCU before the Baylor
- 20:58Speaker 2: game and he's he came back in and they literally
- 21:02Speaker 2: implemented an offense for that game that they threw everything
- 21:05Speaker 2: out the window and We're like, we're gonna win this
- 21:07Speaker 2: motherfucker on our way out the door. Again, they did,
- 21:10Speaker 2: and I could see Baylor jamming it right back up.
- 21:12Speaker 2: And their ass has been like, oh, y'all think they're terrible, right, if.
- 21:16Speaker 4: He's coaching that game, I'm telling Yacht that I.
- 21:19Speaker 3: May want to go to Wacos.
- 21:20Speaker 2: I'll probably have to go to Waco for that one.
- 21:23Speaker 2: Oh man, that's awesome. I didn't think about that, But
- 21:26Speaker 2: I'm November second. Maybe let's get it done BYU. Having
- 21:31Speaker 2: said this in almost two year, the Boys in Special
- 21:33Speaker 2: Underwear five and seven two and seven. Last year, in
- 21:36Speaker 2: their first year in the Big Twelve, this team was
- 21:38Speaker 2: really bad. Last year non competitive. I anticipated that they
- 21:43Speaker 2: lost the quarterback, the running back. They lost too much
- 21:45Speaker 2: talent on this I like Kalonie Sataki, I can't convinced
- 21:49Speaker 2: if this is a good fit for what he's got
- 21:51Speaker 2: up here. They're scheduled, they're always gonna be it's always
- 21:55Speaker 2: gonna be an uphill climb for these guys, and so
- 21:58Speaker 2: when you're looking at what they've got, you know, they
- 22:00Speaker 2: open up Southern Illinois, then they got to go to
- 22:02Speaker 2: s m U, which I think is gonna be a loss.
- 22:04Speaker 2: The SMU team is gonna be pretty good at Wyoming.
- 22:07Speaker 2: Is a grinder of a match that you've got in there,
- 22:09Speaker 2: and then you roll into the rest of.
- 22:10Speaker 1: The Big twelfth play.
- 22:12Speaker 2: The schedule didn't do him any favors, and looking at
- 22:15Speaker 2: this roster, they do bring some kids back, obviously they've
- 22:17Speaker 2: got some kids that were coming back off of mission
- 22:19Speaker 2: and things of that nature. But I don't have a
- 22:21Speaker 2: lot of faith in this squad, and so I would
- 22:24Speaker 2: go under what they're over under win.
- 22:25Speaker 1: Total is here BYU four and a half.
- 22:32Speaker 2: I might go under that and tell you that they
- 22:34Speaker 2: could go four and eight with this schedule that they've
- 22:37Speaker 2: got here.
- 22:38Speaker 4: You don't like Jerry Bohannon as a six year quarterback.
- 22:41Speaker 3: I mean, I'm telling you're gonna see more.
- 22:43Speaker 4: There are so many sixth year players you're gonna be
- 22:46Speaker 4: like that guy is one hundred and eighty and he
- 22:48Speaker 4: had been on a Mormon mission. He's just been bouncing
- 22:51Speaker 4: around Baylor in Southford.
- 22:53Speaker 1: He was a lall roster seven years ago.
- 22:56Speaker 4: I mean, it's unbelievable. I mean two years, a year
- 23:00Speaker 4: before COVID he was at Baylor.
- 23:02Speaker 3: I mean it is.
- 23:04Speaker 4: This is the longest lasting COVID hold over year ever.
- 23:07Speaker 4: But you know, I mean I guess if I was
- 23:10Speaker 4: living the college dream, why not you know, I mean,
- 23:13Speaker 4: go get your master's and hang out sew Free School.
- 23:18Speaker 3: I'm with you.
- 23:19Speaker 4: Think this team's think this team is gonna struggle. I
- 23:23Speaker 4: will say that some of their road games are teams
- 23:26Speaker 4: they're close to, which this that can.
- 23:29Speaker 3: Lead to a surprise.
- 23:30Speaker 4: Look, I think they're gonna get drugged at SMU second
- 23:33Speaker 4: week of the year.
- 23:33Speaker 3: Come down here, it's hot. I think they're gonna get.
- 23:35Speaker 4: Pounded September sixth, because I don't think.
- 23:38Speaker 3: S U is gonna be bad.
- 23:40Speaker 4: Uh At at Wyoming Man, you win that game at Baylor.
- 23:43Speaker 3: Could they win that game one hundred percent?
- 23:45Speaker 4: They get drubbed at U See up in Utah and
- 23:48Speaker 4: then Arizona.
- 23:48Speaker 3: State on the road. They got a couple of road
- 23:51Speaker 3: games they could sneak out depending on what this team's like.
- 23:54Speaker 3: So not totally down on this team. I think they
- 23:57Speaker 3: can win six games. Uh.
- 23:59Speaker 4: They're used to playing tough schedules. They've had some, they've
- 24:01Speaker 4: had some rough sleds. Boy, everybody loves Sataki and when
- 24:05Speaker 4: you find a guy that's that will like, you cheer
- 24:07Speaker 4: for him and you hope that it's successful.
- 24:10Speaker 3: But I'm with you, just kind of mad on the.
- 24:12Speaker 2: Coopers Cincinnati Bearcats. I'm only gonna talk about this team
- 24:15Speaker 2: a little bit. They lost their best defensive tackle in
- 24:18Speaker 2: Dante Corleone. He's got blood clots, and that guy is
- 24:22Speaker 2: a difference maker for them. He was a true NFL
- 24:24Speaker 2: talent that they've gotten here. I do not like the
- 24:27Speaker 2: coaching staff. Scott Saderfield, to me, has not made programs better.
- 24:32Speaker 2: After leaving Louisville steps you know, brom steps in at
- 24:36Speaker 2: Louisville teams immediately better. He steps in at Cincinnati after
- 24:40Speaker 2: Fickle leaves teams immediately getting worse. I have no faith
- 24:43Speaker 2: in Saderfield. I will fade that some of a bit
- 24:45Speaker 2: out of this league three and nine.
- 24:48Speaker 1: I have this team winning four games.
- 24:51Speaker 4: Yep, I agree with you. Don't think this is a
- 24:53Speaker 4: good fit. He has ruined a really really good program fast.
- 24:57Speaker 4: I think they're not a very good football team at
- 25:00Speaker 4: the end.
- 25:01Speaker 3: They're just not anybody.
- 25:02Speaker 4: I'm interested in, and that is bad for your program.
- 25:07Speaker 4: When you just don't have any interest, then it's hard.
- 25:13Speaker 4: It's hard to win because it has to be like
- 25:15Speaker 4: that in recruiting, and it has to be it has
- 25:18Speaker 4: to be like that with players, you know, trying to
- 25:21Speaker 4: bring them in, stuff like that.
- 25:22Speaker 3: So I'm you know this this team, he's.
- 25:26Speaker 4: Got a new defensive coordinator he brings over from Iowa State,
- 25:30Speaker 4: So I mean it'll be interesting.
- 25:32Speaker 3: They're going to try to go to that three three five.
- 25:34Speaker 1: Look, I don't think that.
- 25:36Speaker 4: Let me tell you at let me tell you as
- 25:39Speaker 4: a guy who's look, Joe Lee Dunn started to three
- 25:42Speaker 4: three five and I watched it with great players at
- 25:47Speaker 4: Mississippi State, and I watched it with bad players at
- 25:49Speaker 4: Mississippi State. And you want to look really really bad.
- 25:53Speaker 3: Roll of three three five out.
- 25:54Speaker 4: There with the wrong personnel, and I just don't think you.
- 25:58Speaker 4: I don't think this is the right personnel for uh So,
- 26:01Speaker 4: maybe I'm wrong. We'll see, but I think this team
- 26:04Speaker 4: may be in a lot of trouble.
- 26:05Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm with you on that. I just like I said,
- 26:08Speaker 1: I don't.
- 26:08Speaker 4: And look, he's gonna get no quarter from the Boosters either, no, honey,
- 26:12Speaker 4: they start out, they start out two and four, or
- 26:15Speaker 4: because they're Pittsburgh, get home. Man, you talk about the game,
- 26:18Speaker 4: you gotta win. They're going up to Miami of Ohio,
- 26:21Speaker 4: who's probably the best team in the MAC. They certainly
- 26:24Speaker 4: are on paper. Man, you lose that. And I don't
- 26:27Speaker 4: know if he's coaching against Houston, you know, I mean,
- 26:30Speaker 4: that's that's the bottom line. If he's If he's two
- 26:33Speaker 4: and three going into the off week and they get
- 26:35Speaker 4: drubbed at UCF, I don't think he's coaching at Arizon State.
- 26:40Speaker 4: I'd be stunned. I think the Cincinnati fans are gonna
- 26:43Speaker 4: blow their lid after being in the playoffs just a
- 26:45Speaker 4: few years ago.
- 26:46Speaker 1: Oh my god, it's gotta be fucking appreciating.
- 26:49Speaker 2: Next thing, we got the most polarizing team in all
- 26:53Speaker 2: of college football last year, Colin out of Buffalo's and
- 26:55Speaker 2: coach Prime come back after a four and eighth season.
- 26:58Speaker 1: What an eight last year?
- 27:00Speaker 2: You know, you don't have to be a college football
- 27:02Speaker 2: fan to realize it, but last year, is there any
- 27:05Speaker 2: team that had more media notoriety, hub just hubbub everything
- 27:11Speaker 2: about in the Colorado did through September? I mean, every
- 27:14Speaker 2: time you looked up game day was there. Seventeen rap
- 27:18Speaker 2: moguls were there. There's celebrities there, The Rocks rock and everything.
- 27:25Speaker 2: From what I see from Prime on the outside looking in,
- 27:28Speaker 2: I like the messages that he's getting down with this
- 27:30Speaker 2: team and again he's having to reboot this team. The
- 27:35Speaker 2: problem this team had last year was not their position players.
- 27:39Speaker 2: They've got some skilled position talent on this team. Shader
- 27:41Speaker 2: is going to be in the NFL. Travis Hunter's going
- 27:44Speaker 2: to be in the NFL. They lost the running back
- 27:46Speaker 2: that they had last year, who I thought was pretty solid.
- 27:48Speaker 2: They do bring back some defensive players this year. Where
- 27:50Speaker 2: they really struggled last year was in the trench. Offensive
- 27:54Speaker 2: line wise, they were completely overmatched going into the season,
- 27:58Speaker 2: and you could just start to see it wear and
- 27:59Speaker 2: tear as the season went on. There I'll be surprised
- 28:02Speaker 2: if they make Travis Hunter play both ways again this season,
- 28:06Speaker 2: or if they just don't find some spots to put
- 28:08Speaker 2: that kid in. He's electric on defense. But now I've
- 28:10Speaker 2: kind of started reaching some NFL reports, they think he
- 28:12Speaker 2: actually might be a better wide receiver than a corner,
- 28:15Speaker 2: and so I'll be really interested to see how they
- 28:17Speaker 2: use that. I think Sheder could be a long shot
- 28:20Speaker 2: to win the Heisman, but I don't think they're gonna
- 28:21Speaker 2: be very good. Their schedule is interesting. They open up
- 28:24Speaker 2: with North Dakota State at home. I think, frankly, I
- 28:29Speaker 2: think Colorado should blow him out. I think Colorado's offense
- 28:32Speaker 2: is gonna be too explosive in North Dakota State. The
- 28:34Speaker 2: Bison have slipped a little bit. This isn't the FCS
- 28:37Speaker 2: eight time winning national championship team. This team had he
- 28:40Speaker 2: make to the final game last three years, and then
- 28:42Speaker 2: the next game they've got to me. The next two
- 28:44Speaker 2: games to me are fascinating. They go to Lincoln, Nebraska,
- 28:48Speaker 2: which brings back that old Big Eight rivalry and there
- 28:51Speaker 2: is a lot of hype around Nebraska this year. Matt
- 28:53Speaker 2: Ruhle bringing in some new things that you've got From
- 28:55Speaker 2: that standpoint, I think it's gonna be a great game.
- 28:58Speaker 2: And then the following week they go to Colorado State.
- 29:02Speaker 2: Somebody fact checked this for me. I don't think they
- 29:04Speaker 2: have been to the Fort Collins to play a football
- 29:06Speaker 2: game in like twenty years, because they played it in Boulder.
- 29:10Speaker 1: Last year. They played it in Denver for.
- 29:11Speaker 4: Eat nineteen ninety six, Mark nineteen ninety six.
- 29:14Speaker 3: I had written down in my notes that was thirty years.
- 29:17Speaker 1: I was just guessing.
- 29:18Speaker 2: I and in Colorado State gave them a hell of
- 29:20Speaker 2: a game last year they went into overtime. And Colorado
- 29:23Speaker 2: State's gonna be improved. We're gonna talk about them we
- 29:25Speaker 2: get to the Mountain West. I think this could be
- 29:27Speaker 2: one hell of a football game, and so I look
- 29:29Speaker 2: for Colorado to be improved. I really do think they're
- 29:31Speaker 2: gonna be better. I think this team's gonna struggle to
- 29:36Speaker 2: get to six wins. Vegas has got them set for
- 29:38Speaker 2: over under win toll right around that number if I'm correct.
- 29:42Speaker 1: Yeah, Colorado over under win toll is right there at
- 29:44Speaker 1: five and a half.
- 29:44Speaker 2: This was one of the most bet numbers last year
- 29:47Speaker 2: at four and a half. The team came under, but
- 29:49Speaker 2: they they made you sweat. I don't think they've got
- 29:51Speaker 2: a chance to win the conference. If this team gets
- 29:53Speaker 2: to a bowl game, I think this is a big deal.
- 29:55Speaker 2: I'm gonna make one more prediction. I think Primary steps
- 29:58Speaker 2: down as the Colorado coach after this season, when his
- 30:00Speaker 2: sons graduate or when they move on to the NFL,
- 30:03Speaker 2: and he is out of coaching after this.
- 30:05Speaker 1: But that's my two cents worth.
- 30:07Speaker 3: Couldn't this? I totally agree with you. I don't think. Well,
- 30:10Speaker 3: let me whether he steps down and never coaches again.
- 30:13Speaker 3: I don't know he's out of Colorado.
- 30:15Speaker 4: I think I will say this about this team. When
- 30:18Speaker 4: you look at that at the quarterback and the three
- 30:22Speaker 4: wide receivers they're gonna put on the field as starters,
- 30:26Speaker 4: theate are talented.
- 30:27Speaker 3: Jimmy Horned is a really, really good player.
- 30:30Speaker 4: We obviously his dad was a really good wide receiver
- 30:33Speaker 4: for the Saints. But he's a good player. Travis Hunters,
- 30:36Speaker 4: Travis Hunter, that kid's a stud.
- 30:38Speaker 3: He's a first rounder.
- 30:39Speaker 4: But look, Johnte western An was first team All American
- 30:44Speaker 4: Conference last year at FAU. They bring in a really
- 30:48Speaker 4: good and then they drop in Dalen.
- 30:51Speaker 3: Hayden from Ohio State at running back.
- 30:53Speaker 4: So again Prime's going out getting some guys touting.
- 30:57Speaker 3: Up he can get them to the NFL that.
- 30:59Speaker 4: They're gonna this offensive line goes, which again he was
- 31:02Speaker 4: out trying to get players there and bring guys in
- 31:06Speaker 4: to mesh around what he had and what he had
- 31:09Speaker 4: coming back. But at the end of the day, I
- 31:11Speaker 4: just don't know if this line is gonna be good
- 31:13Speaker 4: enough to get it done. As we said before, I
- 31:16Speaker 4: don't like their schedule at UCF.
- 31:19Speaker 3: They played three out.
- 31:20Speaker 4: Of four road games to end September, at Nebraska, at
- 31:23Speaker 4: Colorado State, and at UCF.
- 31:26Speaker 3: They got to figure out.
- 31:27Speaker 4: How to win at least one of those because the
- 31:30Speaker 4: schedule doesn't get easier. They got Kansas State at home,
- 31:33Speaker 4: They're at Arizona, and then they're at Tech and they're
- 31:36Speaker 4: at Kansas. So is this schedule manageable enough for them
- 31:40Speaker 4: to get Bowl eligible?
- 31:42Speaker 3: Yes, you bet it is.
- 31:43Speaker 4: But man an injury or two and this team falls apart,
- 31:47Speaker 4: and I just think that.
- 31:49Speaker 3: I just think that's what I don't like about this team.
- 31:51Speaker 2: So this team last year gave up four hundred and
- 31:54Speaker 2: fifty yards per game in thirty five points per game,
- 31:58Speaker 2: and that was they just didn't the depth to stay
- 32:01Speaker 2: in games and the trench.
- 32:02Speaker 1: Offensively. If this line can.
- 32:04Speaker 2: Gel, I think they're gonna put points up on almost
- 32:07Speaker 2: anybody they play. I'm gonna be honest with Week one
- 32:09Speaker 2: when they played North Dakota State, I think the line's
- 32:11Speaker 2: around eight. I will be on Colorado in that game
- 32:15Speaker 2: because North Dakota State does not have the talent to
- 32:18Speaker 2: push Colorado around for four quarters, much less keep up
- 32:22Speaker 2: with it from the skill position. Players like I guarantee
- 32:24Speaker 2: you you could see a five hundred yard you know,
- 32:26Speaker 2: you'll see a four hundred yard effort out of shot
- 32:29Speaker 2: her that day. And it's gonna be fireworks the way
- 32:31Speaker 2: they're tossing the ball of the field, and and so
- 32:35Speaker 2: there's gonna be.
- 32:37Speaker 1: I agree with you.
- 32:37Speaker 2: If the offensive line can jel, this team can hang
- 32:40Speaker 2: around in ball games. So we'll see how it's gonna go. Scott,
- 32:44Speaker 2: a Houston Cougar's only gonna say a couple of things.
- 32:46Speaker 2: They bring back Donovan Smith, obviously transferred over from Texas
- 32:50Speaker 2: Tech a couple of years ago, had a pretty good
- 32:52Speaker 2: season last year.
- 32:53Speaker 1: Liked what he's done there. And then they bring in
- 32:56Speaker 1: my man, God might have.
- 32:57Speaker 2: Me a little man crush on Willie Fritz and what
- 33:00Speaker 2: he was able to accomplish it Tulane.
- 33:02Speaker 1: I think bringing in this.
- 33:03Speaker 2: Houston team, I think at his age, he's been coaching
- 33:06Speaker 2: now for twenty seven years, bro has over two hundred
- 33:10Speaker 2: wins coaching college football.
- 33:12Speaker 1: This will probably be his last stop. He knows that.
- 33:15Speaker 2: But being in Houston, I think this is a great
- 33:17Speaker 2: building block to build this program into a team that
- 33:21Speaker 2: I think can actually compete. And so I like everything
- 33:24Speaker 2: about it. But this roster is gonna be bad. If
- 33:27Speaker 2: you can get the over underwinder, if you can find
- 33:29Speaker 2: a four and a half, I would take it under.
- 33:31Speaker 2: This team's gonna really struggle. They lost like sixty kids
- 33:35Speaker 2: off last year's roster. This year, it's gonna be tough.
- 33:38Speaker 4: I'm just letting you know, man, this guy has done
- 33:42Speaker 4: a great job everywhere he's been Sam Houston, State, Georgia,
- 33:46Speaker 4: Southern Tulane. People forget he coached at Blenn College. This
- 33:51Speaker 4: is actually bringing Willie Fritz back to his roots, and
- 33:54Speaker 4: people don't realize that got a lot more contacts in
- 33:57Speaker 4: Texas than people want to want a real lies, and
- 34:01Speaker 4: so I think that Fritz is going to do a
- 34:03Speaker 4: great job here. I think this is a good fit.
- 34:06Speaker 4: I think he is going to be able to get
- 34:09Speaker 4: enough talent. Look, there's talent running all over East Texas
- 34:13Speaker 4: and Houston. He doesn't have to go very far away
- 34:17Speaker 4: to get a roster full of talent. And it's people
- 34:19Speaker 4: that A and M in Texas are going to pass on.
- 34:22Speaker 4: And he is such a great talent evaluator because he
- 34:25Speaker 4: wasn't getting guys over State, Ole, Miss LSU, Auburn. He's
- 34:29Speaker 4: getting the leftovers. He's getting the guys that they passed on,
- 34:32Speaker 4: yet he's going figure them out ways to win ten games.
- 34:35Speaker 4: I think Fritz gonna do a great job at Houston
- 34:37Speaker 4: collecting good talent. Houston Boosters always chime in enough to
- 34:43Speaker 4: get one or two big players in that metro area,
- 34:48Speaker 4: and I think that's going to be something different that
- 34:50Speaker 4: Fritz has never had. They're gonna be able to get
- 34:53Speaker 4: a couple of big time athletes, and I mean, dude,
- 34:56Speaker 4: you can take guys they're just one wrung below the
- 34:59Speaker 4: big schools, North Shore and guys like that and go
- 35:02Speaker 4: win some football games in this league.
- 35:04Speaker 3: So I like Fritz. I think he's gonna do well.
- 35:06Speaker 4: I just think this is gonna be a struggle bus,
- 35:08Speaker 4: just like it wasn't two lane his first year.
- 35:10Speaker 2: Yeah, he was not good at TWU lane his first year,
- 35:12Speaker 2: but I think he's the right fit for the job.
- 35:14Speaker 2: I'm just gonna fade this team this year. I don't
- 35:16Speaker 2: I struggle to see that they're gonna be competitive State.
- 35:21Speaker 2: Let's stay here, Let's go Iowa State. Matt Campbell. You're
- 35:24Speaker 2: number nine for Matt Campbell. I believe coming into Iowa State,
- 35:28Speaker 2: this team last year was interesting. You know, they had
- 35:29Speaker 2: that gambling scandal. Gambling scandal, I think I said that correctly.
- 35:34Speaker 2: That started before the season. They lost a quarterback, Rock
- 35:37Speaker 2: Obec stepped in as a freshman, played well, I thought,
- 35:41Speaker 2: and Matt Campbell, to me is just one of the
- 35:43Speaker 2: best coaches in the country. I kind of wonder if
- 35:45Speaker 2: he may have missed his window on getting a big
- 35:48Speaker 2: time job when he didn't leave when he had Brock
- 35:50Speaker 2: Purdy there, when he probably thought he was gonna win
- 35:52Speaker 2: the Big twelve that one year. But the guy always
- 35:55Speaker 2: puts out a physical football team that's a grinder. I've
- 35:58Speaker 2: got this team power rated right at where the Vegas
- 36:01Speaker 2: number is. Iowa stayed over under win totals at seven
- 36:04Speaker 2: and a half shaded to minus one twenty to the over.
- 36:07Speaker 2: They're also at plus nine point fifty to win the conference.
- 36:12Speaker 2: I don't know, man, I'm kind of I think those
- 36:13Speaker 2: numbers are just about right when you look at their schedule.
- 36:17Speaker 2: I think they should be able to get the seven
- 36:18Speaker 2: and a half wins. But again, they fall into the
- 36:20Speaker 2: category for me and what you were describing with the
- 36:22Speaker 2: big twelves just right there in the middle of you know,
- 36:25Speaker 2: are where are they gonna go? Are they gonna be
- 36:27Speaker 2: able to break out and get those wins. I'm interested
- 36:29Speaker 2: to see when they go to Iowa the second game
- 36:31Speaker 2: of the season, because that game has just been their nemesis,
- 36:34Speaker 2: man like kryptonite, trying to win that game. If they
- 36:37Speaker 2: could somehow be Iowa to get started, then this team
- 36:40Speaker 2: easily could be five and oher headed to West Virginia
- 36:44Speaker 2: and you could have some mo going at that point.
- 36:47Speaker 3: Yep.
- 36:48Speaker 4: Here's what I like about here's what I like about
- 36:51Speaker 4: this schedule, And I agree with you that Vegas is
- 36:55Speaker 4: dead on the money on this.
- 36:57Speaker 3: That Iowa game, to me is.
- 37:00Speaker 4: A gigantic game because they can win it. It's a
- 37:04Speaker 4: rivalry they've wanted plenty of times. It's gonna be a slugfest.
- 37:08Speaker 4: They've got a chance to win that, and I think
- 37:11Speaker 4: that puts them over if they do it. I love
- 37:14Speaker 4: some of their road games at Houston. They're better at
- 37:17Speaker 4: West Virginia, even though I think West Virginia is gonna
- 37:19Speaker 4: be good again, that's a.
- 37:20Speaker 3: Winnable ball game. At Kansas.
- 37:23Speaker 4: Who's playing for Kansas a quarterback at that point, I mean,
- 37:26Speaker 4: he hadn't finished the season yet, and this team takes
- 37:28Speaker 4: a step back. So could they win at Kansas?
- 37:31Speaker 3: You bet? And then they're at Utah, So I mean
- 37:33Speaker 3: there's a couple of games that are tough.
- 37:35Speaker 4: I don't think there's any way they went at Utah
- 37:37Speaker 4: and they can win at Iowa. That you got a
- 37:39Speaker 4: stretch of road games. They can win all of those.
- 37:42Speaker 4: And really the only team that I think is a
- 37:44Speaker 4: guaranteed loss or not a guarantee, but I think they're
- 37:49Speaker 4: going to lose as you see UF at home and
- 37:52Speaker 4: that's it. But they can win all of those. I
- 37:54Speaker 4: think this team could sneak themselves up as high as
- 37:57Speaker 4: ten and two, but also so think they could go
- 38:00Speaker 4: seven and five, depending on what this team's like and
- 38:04Speaker 4: what kind of breaks, it gets.
- 38:05Speaker 2: Yeah, your point of the Kansas game. Last year, you
- 38:09Speaker 2: know they won that game, didn't they win that game?
- 38:10Speaker 2: Last year?
- 38:13Speaker 4: They lost, No, they lost, they lost. They lost to
- 38:16Speaker 4: Kansas twenty eight, twenty one. But but very easily could
- 38:21Speaker 4: have won that game, but they But this.
- 38:22Speaker 2: Year that game is actually being played at Arrowhead because
- 38:26Speaker 2: Kansas doesn't have a station this year, every game Kansas plays,
- 38:29Speaker 2: they're either playing in the Sporting KC Soccer Stadium, which
- 38:32Speaker 2: I think is a better environment from them than trying
- 38:34Speaker 2: to play at Arrowhead because the Arrowheads so big. But
- 38:37Speaker 2: when they play this game here, I'm telling you right now,
- 38:39Speaker 2: there will be more Iowa State fans there then there
- 38:42Speaker 2: will be Kansas fans at this game, and so it's
- 38:44Speaker 2: gonna be an interesting environment for them.
- 38:46Speaker 1: Moving on to Kansas.
- 38:48Speaker 2: I've got this team, man, Lance Leopold, you want to
- 38:51Speaker 2: talk about a magician. I mean, what is it about
- 38:54Speaker 2: coaches at Kansas that in the state of Kansas that
- 38:57Speaker 2: if they can just get the fit right, they're so good.
- 39:00Speaker 2: We got the Purple Wizard all those years. I think
- 39:03Speaker 2: I think Climbing's done a great job at k State.
- 39:05Speaker 2: Leopold came in from Buffalo in this position, He's done great.
- 39:10Speaker 2: You look at this roster, they return a lot of
- 39:12Speaker 2: key players. The biggest question mark for me, though, is
- 39:15Speaker 2: what you exactly just said is who's gonna be playing quarterback.
- 39:18Speaker 2: Jalen Daniels has been hurt each of the last two years.
- 39:21Speaker 2: He's got a back injury. I don't know that it's
- 39:23Speaker 2: one hundred percent healed, still has some issues with that.
- 39:26Speaker 2: And then you don't have Jason Bean in the back
- 39:29Speaker 2: end here to back him up.
- 39:31Speaker 1: And that's a big deal because.
- 39:33Speaker 2: So with the Kansas team that's here again, seven and
- 39:36Speaker 2: a half wins is where they're slated over a chance
- 39:39Speaker 2: to win the conference titles at nine point fifty, I
- 39:41Speaker 2: would fade both of those bets and go the other direction.
- 39:45Speaker 2: I'm not playing them, but I think Kansas again is
- 39:48Speaker 2: gonna be fun. If Daniels can stay healthy, this team
- 39:51Speaker 2: can play with anybody they're gonna play on their schedule.
- 39:53Speaker 2: If Daniels gets hurt, this thing could get real wonky,
- 39:56Speaker 2: real quick.
- 39:58Speaker 3: Yeah. I like Devin Neal to run it back.
- 40:00Speaker 4: They got a lot to They got a lot to
- 40:01Speaker 4: fix on the offensive line, and I think that's where
- 40:04Speaker 4: this team takes takes a step back, is that they've
- 40:08Speaker 4: got some things to the things to get online. There
- 40:12Speaker 4: this schedule again, that just kind of you know, they're
- 40:17Speaker 4: at Illinois week two, which can I point out? They
- 40:20Speaker 4: are playing a team that I have never heard of
- 40:23Speaker 4: and that takes a lot of work.
- 40:25Speaker 3: London Wood. Where the hell is Lyndon Wood?
- 40:29Speaker 4: And I thought, you think I know a lot about
- 40:30Speaker 4: college football.
- 40:31Speaker 2: It's in Missouri. And the only reason I know this
- 40:36Speaker 2: is because one of the kids that graduated with my
- 40:39Speaker 2: daughter this year was supposed to go play lacrosse there
- 40:42Speaker 2: and apparently it's a D one lacrosse school and he
- 40:45Speaker 2: had like skilly money, I guess, but did oh by
- 40:48Speaker 2: the way, he got a phone call one day letting
- 40:50Speaker 2: them know that they have decided to cancel the entire
- 40:52Speaker 2: program and he would need to find somewhere else to
- 40:54Speaker 2: play next year.
- 40:55Speaker 3: So there, that's awesome.
- 40:57Speaker 4: They're a member of the Ohio Valley I did didn't
- 41:00Speaker 4: get that far, but they're at Illinois week two.
- 41:03Speaker 3: It's a gigantic game. That's at is such a huge game.
- 41:07Speaker 4: Haven't been to Champagne since nineteen sixty eight, which is
- 41:12Speaker 4: a pretty long time ago. That UNLV game at home,
- 41:16Speaker 4: huge game. Now UNOV is not quite the same because
- 41:18Speaker 4: obviously lost their quarterback. But you know, I think Odam
- 41:22Speaker 4: was doing a really good job out there. Then they're
- 41:24Speaker 4: at West Virginia TCU. Again, we talked about that being
- 41:28Speaker 4: at a at Arrowhead or I think it is at Arrowhead,
- 41:34Speaker 4: and then and then.
- 41:36Speaker 3: You've got.
- 41:38Speaker 4: And then you've got at Air, you got at Arizona State.
- 41:42Speaker 4: So I mean there's this schedules rough for them. I
- 41:45Speaker 4: mean it's they've got to start fast or it gets
- 41:50Speaker 4: or I think it gets pretty wonky. Candidly, again, the
- 41:55Speaker 4: whole key is Jalen Daniels being healthy. How long is
- 41:59Speaker 4: he on the feet? I like Lawrence Arnold the wide
- 42:01Speaker 4: receiver as well, he's pretty good. He's a pretty good
- 42:03Speaker 4: player as well. So a lot to like about this team.
- 42:07Speaker 4: Leopold does a great job. He's not gonna get out
- 42:09Speaker 4: coached a single week, and that's always an advantage, and
- 42:12Speaker 4: so it'll be interesting to see where this team's up
- 42:15Speaker 4: ends up. I ain't care going to really struggle to
- 42:18Speaker 4: get back to nine wins though.
- 42:19Speaker 2: Yeah it's I'm I'm toe dipping into Kansas. I love
- 42:24Speaker 2: I love Leopoles, who we get If Jayleen Daniels is healthy,
- 42:27Speaker 2: I can ride with them.
- 42:28Speaker 1: I will probably be riding with them.
- 42:30Speaker 2: If I think that line's gonna come out Week two
- 42:32Speaker 2: or when they play Illinois it's gonna be a two
- 42:35Speaker 2: or three point line, I'll probably ride with Kansas. Is
- 42:37Speaker 2: that one against Bert and get it rolling. Let's move
- 42:40Speaker 2: across the state the Purple Wildcats. Brother This team went
- 42:44Speaker 2: nine and four last year, six and three in the
- 42:46Speaker 2: Big Twelve. They lose Will Howard, their quarterback, who transferred
- 42:50Speaker 2: to Ohio State, which I thought was interesting that he's
- 42:52Speaker 2: probably gonna start at Ohio State and I'm not sure
- 42:55Speaker 2: he was gonna start at Kansas State. Avery Johnson, the
- 42:58Speaker 2: freshman from Wichita, played at Ton last year. Used his
- 43:01Speaker 2: legs like crazy, and that was mainly what they brought
- 43:04Speaker 2: him in for.
- 43:05Speaker 1: We didn't see a whole lot of his passing.
- 43:06Speaker 2: It's gonna have to improve based on the little skims
- 43:10Speaker 2: that we've got from there. But the other thing I
- 43:12Speaker 2: think is interesting too about this Kansas State team. Their
- 43:15Speaker 2: favorite is the number two team in the conference at
- 43:17Speaker 2: like plus three fifty to four hundred over under went
- 43:20Speaker 2: tolls are at nine. But they lose Chris Klein, the quarterback,
- 43:23Speaker 2: who is the offensive coordinator, who transferred or who took the.
- 43:26Speaker 1: Job with Elko at Texas A and M.
- 43:29Speaker 2: Which I thought was a big deal because if you
- 43:31Speaker 2: watched Avery Johnson play, and you watched enough Kansas State
- 43:34Speaker 2: football from back in the day, you could see a
- 43:37Speaker 2: lot of Chris Klin tendencies to Avery Johnson and how
- 43:40Speaker 2: client could build an offense around that. Now they bring
- 43:42Speaker 2: in an offensive coordinator, They bring in Matt Wells, who
- 43:46Speaker 2: was the head coach at Texas Tech not that long ago,
- 43:49Speaker 2: which I think is a good fit for them. And
- 43:51Speaker 2: then defensively, I think this team's gonna be that's where
- 43:54Speaker 2: they're gonna be able to lean on. They bring back
- 43:56Speaker 2: six starters on a defense that was a pretty solid
- 43:58Speaker 2: unit last year. I looked for the team to be
- 44:00Speaker 2: very physical, very tough out. It's just going to be.
- 44:04Speaker 2: As a matter from an offensive standpoint is what are
- 44:06Speaker 2: they able to do, how they play ball, control and implement.
- 44:10Speaker 2: But I like the coaching staff, I like everything about them.
- 44:14Speaker 1: Four to one to win the conference. I don't think
- 44:15Speaker 1: it's a bad bet.
- 44:18Speaker 4: Not I only either the Kansas State's good. They slug it,
- 44:21Speaker 4: you know, at the end of the day. Boy, you
- 44:25Speaker 4: talk about talk about a schedule that's manageable. At Tulane,
- 44:30Speaker 4: at BYU, at Colorado, at West Virginia, at Houston, and
- 44:36Speaker 4: at Iowa State to end the year. Hell, they could
- 44:39Speaker 4: win every one of those except possibly Iowa State. And
- 44:42Speaker 4: I mean, you can't tell me that's not a winnable
- 44:44Speaker 4: game at Iowa State. That's how you hang up. That's
- 44:47Speaker 4: how you want a conference when you look at road
- 44:50Speaker 4: games and you realize, hey man, we got a chance
- 44:52Speaker 4: to win every one of these.
- 44:53Speaker 3: They get Arizona at home.
- 44:54Speaker 4: They get Oklahoma State at home, they get Kansas at home,
- 44:58Speaker 4: Arizona State, and Cincinnati. They're also dodging what is what
- 45:02Speaker 4: I think the other best team in the league in Utah.
- 45:05Speaker 3: So I like this team.
- 45:08Speaker 4: I like what Climban does talk about a great fit.
- 45:11Speaker 4: Guy's a great fit, and I just think this is
- 45:14Speaker 4: going to be a football team. They didn't let a
- 45:17Speaker 4: guy who started that many games for them at quarterback
- 45:20Speaker 4: go because they don't feel really good about Johnson. It
- 45:23Speaker 4: is exactly like Oklahoma. You don't let Dylan Gabriel go,
- 45:28Speaker 4: and they let him go. Make no mistakes because they
- 45:31Speaker 4: didn't want they didn't want the kid to hit the portal.
- 45:34Speaker 4: So I mean, at the end of the day, you're
- 45:35Speaker 4: not letting kids like this go because you don't have
- 45:40Speaker 4: a lot of confidence and upside in the quarterback spot.
- 45:43Speaker 3: So that doesn't concern me at all. So I like
- 45:46Speaker 3: this football team.
- 45:47Speaker 4: I think they at worst case are playing in the
- 45:49Speaker 4: Big Twelve Championship.
- 45:50Speaker 2: Now I'm with you. I like everything about this team.
- 45:53Speaker 2: I'm not whether up said to see will Howard go
- 45:55Speaker 2: every Johnson's electric if you ever seen the kid play yet,
- 45:58Speaker 2: he's a lot of fun. Moving on to the low
- 46:00Speaker 2: longest tenured coaching, what was the Big Twelve until we
- 46:02Speaker 2: brought in Utah would be Oklahoma State. And I'm a
- 46:05Speaker 2: grown man, brother, I'm a grown man if you want
- 46:07Speaker 2: to come after me in Mike Gundy. In this one,
- 46:10Speaker 2: Gundhy brings back a team that is so fascinating to me.
- 46:13Speaker 2: This was a team last year that lost to South Alabama.
- 46:17Speaker 2: I mean not only lost, but got like thumped by
- 46:19Speaker 2: South Alabama. Then they come back the next week to
- 46:22Speaker 2: lose to Iowa State and people are like, oh, is
- 46:24Speaker 2: this the end of Gundy? And then he rattles off
- 46:27Speaker 2: what five or six wins in a row, ends up
- 46:29Speaker 2: finishing the season ten and four. Seven and two, brings
- 46:32Speaker 2: back a roster that is absolutely loaded with snaps. Alan
- 46:38Speaker 2: Bowman the quarterback, Holy shitballs. I think that guy was
- 46:41Speaker 2: in college when I was there. This is his sixth
- 46:44Speaker 2: or seventh year. He's been to Texas Tech, he's been
- 46:46Speaker 2: to Michigan. He's back here and he wasn't even that
- 46:49Speaker 2: good last year because I think he was hurt. He
- 46:51Speaker 2: also brings back the leading rusher in the country at
- 46:54Speaker 2: Oli Gordon. I was kind of surprised he came back,
- 46:57Speaker 2: but he brings them back from a defensive unit. This
- 47:00Speaker 2: was a team that had to transition over the last
- 47:01Speaker 2: couple of years after you lose Jim Knowles, and last
- 47:05Speaker 2: year's defense was really a transitioning point for them, but
- 47:07Speaker 2: it got better as the season went on. I like
- 47:10Speaker 2: Oklahoma State to win the Big twelve. Here you can
- 47:12Speaker 2: get and here's the reason why. The number you can
- 47:15Speaker 2: get him at plus seven point fifty, and you're bringing
- 47:17Speaker 2: back one of the most season rosters in the country.
- 47:19Speaker 2: I've also thrown some pizza money at them to win
- 47:21Speaker 2: the national championship, with hopes being that we can set
- 47:24Speaker 2: up a hedge. When they get to that spot, their
- 47:27Speaker 2: schedule is absolutely manageable when they can work themselves all
- 47:31Speaker 2: the way through it.
- 47:32Speaker 1: And so I like what we've got here. What your
- 47:35Speaker 1: thoughts are? Brother?
- 47:37Speaker 3: You know, I love oli. Gordon Bowman has been there forever.
- 47:42Speaker 3: This has got to be his sixth year. I mean
- 47:44Speaker 3: it feels like it. It's gotta be.
- 47:46Speaker 4: I mean what he's spent. He spent two years at
- 47:49Speaker 4: at Michigan. This his second year here. And we know
- 47:52Speaker 4: he was at k State one year, so and I
- 47:55Speaker 4: think he was there two years. So this is at
- 47:57Speaker 4: least five or six and he's bounced all around. Say
- 48:03Speaker 4: that again.
- 48:04Speaker 1: He was at Texas Tech, wasn't he?
- 48:06Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 48:07Speaker 4: Wasn't that what I said? Don't I say Texas Tech?
- 48:09Speaker 4: I say Texas.
- 48:10Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, yeah, Texas Tech. He was Texas Tech.
- 48:13Speaker 3: Yeah, Texas Tech.
- 48:14Speaker 1: He was at Michigan for two years. This is his
- 48:18Speaker 1: seventh year.
- 48:21Speaker 4: Wow, he's getting an injury year on top of his
- 48:26Speaker 4: COVID year.
- 48:27Speaker 2: If he somehow starts all twelve games, he will finish
- 48:31Speaker 2: with fifty starts over his college career.
- 48:35Speaker 3: Wow. So been here forever. So it says a lot.
- 48:38Speaker 4: That's probably exactly what gund He's looking for, of course,
- 48:41Speaker 4: to go with Aley Gordon. Uh, this is a talented offense.
- 48:45Speaker 4: I mean you look at all the players they've got
- 48:47Speaker 4: back and it's basically everybody, and it's a lot of
- 48:50Speaker 4: you know, if they don't have a starter back, they
- 48:53Speaker 4: brought in a guy who started somewhere. So this is
- 48:55Speaker 4: a team with a lot of experience. They're gonna be
- 48:57Speaker 4: a good football team. But I can't get pass. Last
- 49:01Speaker 4: year South Alabama on the losing thirty three is seven
- 49:05Speaker 4: at home, and then they're in the midst of a
- 49:07Speaker 4: five game win streak, and you think, well, this ought
- 49:11Speaker 4: be They're going to UCF not a very good football
- 49:14Speaker 4: team last year and they got boat raced forty five
- 49:18Speaker 4: to three total, sleptwalk on a couple of teams that
- 49:23Speaker 4: they shouldn't have slept walk on. And when you look
- 49:25Speaker 4: at these road games, man, you start sleepwalking at BYU Baylor,
- 49:30Speaker 4: TCU Colorado. Those are all games that they could win,
- 49:35Speaker 4: probably should win, probably gonna be favored in all of them.
- 49:38Speaker 4: But are they going to sleep walk and give you
- 49:40Speaker 4: a give me a donut again? You know, they got
- 49:43Speaker 4: Arkansas at home to start to kick off the season,
- 49:47Speaker 4: which is gonna be a fun game for me because
- 49:49Speaker 4: I think that's a read on both of these teams,
- 49:51Speaker 4: so it'll be it'll be interesting to see what they get.
- 49:54Speaker 4: But they also play some teams that they can lose.
- 49:57Speaker 4: They're not so much better that they can't lose a
- 49:59Speaker 4: game home, which is illustrated by South Alabama. So this
- 50:03Speaker 4: team's just got some question marks. For me, I just
- 50:06Speaker 4: don't feel like they have reached their potential the years
- 50:09Speaker 4: that they've been really good. It's like they surprise people
- 50:13Speaker 4: and play well when nobody's expecting much. I mean, we
- 50:16Speaker 4: weren't expecting anything after they let an experienced quarterback go
- 50:20Speaker 4: sit on the pine at Old Miss last year, and
- 50:22Speaker 4: a boom, they come out and win ten games. But
- 50:25Speaker 4: these are the years that they take that step back
- 50:27Speaker 4: to go seven to five and eight and four, and candidly,
- 50:30Speaker 4: that's more what I'm expecting. There's a lot they have
- 50:33Speaker 4: not met expectations when they needed it very often, so
- 50:36Speaker 4: I'll be interested. This roster is as talented as anybody
- 50:40Speaker 4: in the league, and they should be thinking about winning
- 50:43Speaker 4: the Big winning the Big twelve. So when you're talking
- 50:46Speaker 4: about odds, this is a personal opinion. They're a team
- 50:50Speaker 4: I think you really have to look at when you
- 50:52Speaker 4: start looking at odds to where they play.
- 50:54Speaker 3: So do I think they're going to do it?
- 50:56Speaker 4: No?
- 50:56Speaker 3: Do I think this roster is talented enough and Gundh's
- 50:59Speaker 3: good enough.
- 51:02Speaker 1: Yeah, it's a I like this team a lot.
- 51:04Speaker 2: I think this is a team that's got a chance
- 51:06Speaker 2: to win the conference, got a chance to play for
- 51:08Speaker 2: the title.
- 51:08Speaker 1: They've been I.
- 51:09Speaker 2: Mean for a team that's been around the conference championship
- 51:13Speaker 2: game several times in the last four or five years. Nationally,
- 51:16Speaker 2: they're fairly irrelevant, I mean, and so I think this
- 51:19Speaker 2: is the year that they could take a step forward.
- 51:20Speaker 2: I'm high on Oklahoma State this season, moving down south
- 51:24Speaker 2: to TCU. Interesting team. Two years removed from playing for
- 51:28Speaker 2: the Natty where they got crushed by Georgia and just
- 51:30Speaker 2: literally surprised the world. Turn it around last year and
- 51:33Speaker 2: they go five and seven with an upside down record
- 51:35Speaker 2: of the Big twelve and three and six. This team
- 51:38Speaker 2: had a lot of turnover last year when the roster
- 51:41Speaker 2: basically had a hard reboot. After that run that they made,
- 51:45Speaker 2: they come back in here. They really struggled at quarterback play.
- 51:48Speaker 3: This year.
- 51:49Speaker 2: They bring back Josh Hoover again. I'm hoping he's better
- 51:52Speaker 2: in this system. You got Briles as the offensive coordinator,
- 51:55Speaker 2: and I didn't realize that they hired Andy Avolos as
- 51:57Speaker 2: the defensive coordinator, the coach that got fired from Boise.
- 52:00Speaker 2: And so the one thing that you got to say
- 52:02Speaker 2: about Sunny Dyke's teams is is his defense sucks. It
- 52:06Speaker 2: sucks everywhere he's been and it's like he just doesn't
- 52:09Speaker 2: care about it and he's just gonna outscore whoever he's playing,
- 52:12Speaker 2: which is completely opposite from you know, the TCU that
- 52:16Speaker 2: built itself into a brand name, which was a hard
- 52:19Speaker 2: nosed team, physical, so on and so forth. And so
- 52:23Speaker 2: I have more questions than I have answers for this
- 52:25Speaker 2: TCU team. Over under win total on this team, I
- 52:28Speaker 2: think is at six and a half and they're eighteen
- 52:31Speaker 2: to one to win the conference championship. I don't have
- 52:34Speaker 2: a lot of faith in them, but I think this
- 52:35Speaker 2: team's gonna be pretty interesting. They open up at Stanford
- 52:38Speaker 2: week one. Let me go ahead and tell you I
- 52:40Speaker 2: would take a pocket. I'd put the money down on
- 52:43Speaker 2: over sixty one in that game. And I kind of
- 52:46Speaker 2: like Stanford. If you can find an eight and a half.
- 52:48Speaker 2: Stanford's gonna be better than people think they are. And
- 52:51Speaker 2: that's a long trip out to Palo Alto from Fort Worth,
- 52:54Speaker 2: and so I would lean there. But then when you
- 52:56Speaker 2: get into it the next their schedule sets up to me,
- 53:00Speaker 2: it's harder than it looks. You've got a pancake game
- 53:02Speaker 2: in game two, then UCF comes to town, which I
- 53:05Speaker 2: think they're going to be really good, and then you've
- 53:07Speaker 2: got to go to SMU and that's a huge rivalry
- 53:09Speaker 2: game for these two schools, and SEMU is going to
- 53:11Speaker 2: be improved. And so I'll be interested to see if
- 53:14Speaker 2: Sunny Dykes isn't on the hot seat if this team
- 53:16Speaker 2: goes under five hundred again this season.
- 53:20Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I agree with that wholeheartedly.
- 53:23Speaker 4: If they go on under five hundred, he's definitely on
- 53:26Speaker 4: the hot seat. I mean, do you really fire, you know,
- 53:32Speaker 4: your long term head coach and have a guy not
- 53:35Speaker 4: go five hundred couple years in a row. I don't
- 53:38Speaker 4: think so, you know, so, I yeah, he's definitely on
- 53:41Speaker 4: the hot seat. If they don't get Bowl eligible, I
- 53:46Speaker 4: think they're going to be better than that. You're talking
- 53:48Speaker 4: about defense, That defense should be good they brought some
- 53:51Speaker 4: good players over, it should be better.
- 53:53Speaker 3: And they brought in some really good The deal kid
- 53:56Speaker 3: was a.
- 53:57Speaker 4: Really good player at Tulane, brought in It's applying over
- 54:00Speaker 4: from Georgia. They've improved that side of the football, so
- 54:04Speaker 4: the team should be better.
- 54:06Speaker 3: TCU again, I said, is in.
- 54:08Speaker 4: That group of teams that can take that pop forward
- 54:11Speaker 4: to be near the top of the league. I expect
- 54:14Speaker 4: that more than I expect a losing season. I think
- 54:18Speaker 4: Dykes is going to turn this around and get them
- 54:20Speaker 4: back competitive.
- 54:21Speaker 3: I like him, especially as an offensive football coach.
- 54:26Speaker 4: And I think they'll be better on offense this year
- 54:28Speaker 4: because where they really got one cake, it didn't score
- 54:31Speaker 4: points a lot.
- 54:32Speaker 3: I mean, they were losing ball games.
- 54:33Speaker 4: Scoring twenty six, scoring twenty eight, fourteen twenty one.
- 54:38Speaker 3: That's not what you expect from a Dyke's team.
- 54:40Speaker 4: I'm used to seeing them winning forty two seventeen. They're
- 54:44Speaker 4: going to lose to Oklahoma make it forty five sixty nine.
- 54:47Speaker 4: That's what you're expecting from a Dyke's team. I think
- 54:50Speaker 4: his defense is gonna be good enough to keep some
- 54:52Speaker 4: of those numbers down, which in turn, I think is
- 54:55Speaker 4: going to help the offense, get the football more often,
- 54:58Speaker 4: get some more possessions, and then that's or number goes up.
- 55:00Speaker 4: So I think TCU's got a chance, you know, to
- 55:03Speaker 4: get to that seven maybe eight game win total. But
- 55:06Speaker 4: I don't think they're quite good enough to get back
- 55:09Speaker 4: to the Big twelve championship.
- 55:11Speaker 1: UH Texas Tech. This is a team. It's interesting.
- 55:14Speaker 2: Joey McGuire head coach here, longtime high school football coach
- 55:18Speaker 2: in the state of Texas. Was it Baylor under Randa
- 55:21Speaker 2: moved over, took this job. They've got a brand news.
- 55:24Speaker 2: I mean, the stadium is incredible. They've just finished it.
- 55:27Speaker 2: They will have the biggest football complex in the country.
- 55:30Speaker 2: They've got nil money behind him. They bring back Baron Morton,
- 55:35Speaker 2: the quarterback. They bring back Todge Brooks, the running back.
- 55:37Speaker 2: I was surprised he didn't try to go pro. They
- 55:40Speaker 2: bring in some I thought key pieces on the transfer portal,
- 55:43Speaker 2: and then they also bring in the highest recruited player
- 55:45Speaker 2: they've ever had in Micah Hudson, the wide receiver that
- 55:48Speaker 2: comes in, which they think he'll start day one for
- 55:50Speaker 2: this team. I like Baron Morton personally. This team has
- 55:54Speaker 2: struggled with injury at the quarterback position. Taylor shucked. The
- 55:57Speaker 2: quarterback that transferred in from Oregon has been hurt off
- 56:00Speaker 2: and on. Then Morton got hurt and so they were
- 56:02Speaker 2: down way down the quarterback roster a couple of times.
- 56:06Speaker 2: And so last year the hype was all on Texas Tech.
- 56:08Speaker 2: You saw Joey McGuire come out and say, if you
- 56:11Speaker 2: want to win the Big Twelve, you've got to come
- 56:12Speaker 2: through Lubbock. This year it is Stone Quiet, which is
- 56:17Speaker 2: I think is better for this team. They open up
- 56:20Speaker 2: interesting schedule Abilene Christian and they go to Wazoo. I
- 56:24Speaker 2: have no read on Wazoo, but I'm interested to see
- 56:27Speaker 2: how the Pac two teams are gonna fare. But this
- 56:29Speaker 2: would be the old Mike Leach game, North Texas, Arizona State,
- 56:33Speaker 2: Cincinnati and they go to Arizona. If they can beat
- 56:36Speaker 2: Washington State on the road, which last year they stumbled
- 56:39Speaker 2: against Wyoming when they had to go up there early,
- 56:42Speaker 2: I think this team can easily be undefeated when they
- 56:44Speaker 2: go to Arizona in October and maybe be scratching their
- 56:48Speaker 2: head to figure out if they're relevant, because their schedule
- 56:51Speaker 2: from there on out I think is extremely manageable. And
- 56:54Speaker 2: if Morton can stay healthy. I think this kid's kind
- 56:56Speaker 2: of electric. He was a big time recruit for them
- 56:58Speaker 2: when they brought him in. He likes to play fast.
- 57:01Speaker 2: I think we're gonna get a lot of tempo. This
- 57:03Speaker 2: is Zach Kittley, the offensive coordinator that was at Houston
- 57:06Speaker 2: Baptist with Bailey Zappy. We talked about that kid when
- 57:09Speaker 2: he was coming through. And then Tim de Ruder, the
- 57:11Speaker 2: defensive coordinator. I think it's gonna shape this defense into
- 57:14Speaker 2: what it needs to be. This is a team I
- 57:16Speaker 2: think could improve and as a sleeper team at fourteen
- 57:19Speaker 2: to one might be worth some pizza money.
- 57:22Speaker 1: But I like their over at eight wins too.
- 57:25Speaker 3: Yeah, I do too. This is the team of that
- 57:28Speaker 3: next group. This is the team I agree that. I
- 57:31Speaker 3: that my gut tells me he's gonna pop out. I agree.
- 57:34Speaker 4: That's just because this you mentioned, the schedule been an important.
- 57:39Speaker 3: Part of it.
- 57:39Speaker 4: They got a lot of people bad, tougher place to
- 57:42Speaker 4: play than people give it than give it credit.
- 57:45Speaker 3: They should have beaten Oregon last year.
- 57:47Speaker 4: Yeah, and people that didn't watch that ball game don't
- 57:51Speaker 4: really that Oregon got that lead and Tech played really
- 57:55Speaker 4: well coming back and should have won that ball game.
- 57:59Speaker 4: The end had a critic will turnover late in that
- 58:01Speaker 4: ballgame that that probably cost them the ballgame. So, uh,
- 58:05Speaker 4: you look back at that ball game, and boy, you
- 58:07Speaker 4: talk about a different season if that's an eight win
- 58:09Speaker 4: team with a win over Oregon and and and then
- 58:12Speaker 4: they beat Wyoming, which they very easily could have a
- 58:15Speaker 4: gag that game. This team was so close to winning
- 58:18Speaker 4: nine games that people don't realize it. And but then
- 58:24Speaker 4: you look back at Tech and we talked about this
- 58:26Speaker 4: a couple of weeks ago. They had been burned six
- 58:28Speaker 4: and six in the regular season, but like once since
- 58:30Speaker 4: Leech was there. So, I mean, where does this team go?
- 58:35Speaker 4: Everybody feels like maguire is the right guy for this job.
- 58:38Speaker 3: With the contact. Tech's a tough job.
- 58:40Speaker 4: I mean it's a long I mean that is a
- 58:42Speaker 4: long slid from Dallas. It's a damn long slid from Houston.
- 58:46Speaker 4: So a lot of the talent and state is close
- 58:49Speaker 4: to It's a whole lot closer to get to baton
- 58:51Speaker 4: Rouge from Houston than it is to get to love
- 58:54Speaker 4: it a whole lot closer about half the time. So
- 58:58Speaker 4: that is a significant difficulty for this team. Recruiting nil
- 59:03Speaker 4: does matter but at the end of the day, it's environment.
- 59:07Speaker 4: It's not just money, and Tech's got to win some
- 59:10Speaker 4: ball games. The upgrades they've made facility wise are outstanding.
- 59:15Speaker 4: That is one of the reasons I think this team
- 59:17Speaker 4: kicks it forward. Again, Let's look at the road games.
- 59:21Speaker 4: They're tough. They got three that I think they're gonna
- 59:23Speaker 4: have difficulty winning at Arizona, at Iowa State, at Oklahoma State.
- 59:28Speaker 3: But I also don't think any of those games aren't winnable.
- 59:32Speaker 4: And again, this team's dodging what I feel like are
- 59:37Speaker 4: the best teams in the league.
- 59:38Speaker 3: They play Oklahoma State.
- 59:39Speaker 4: Who's in that niche, But man, they miss a lot
- 59:43Speaker 4: of the other teams.
- 59:44Speaker 3: There's no Utah in here. You know, there's no Kansas State.
- 59:48Speaker 4: So when you start so when you start talking about
- 59:51Speaker 4: being able to miss the better halts of the teams,
- 59:54Speaker 4: that's where the teams are all the chance to jump forward.
- 59:58Speaker 4: I look at their home games and I don't think
- 1:00:00Speaker 4: they're going to lose a game. I mean, I would
- 1:00:02Speaker 4: think the most losable home game is probably Colorado.
- 1:00:05Speaker 3: It's just because of how explosive they are.
- 1:00:07Speaker 4: But who knows what kind of shape that program's in
- 1:00:09Speaker 4: when they come in, and then at West Virginia you're
- 1:00:11Speaker 4: good enough to I mean the West Virginia at home.
- 1:00:13Speaker 3: They won last year.
- 1:00:14Speaker 4: In Morgantown, so I would think you got to be
- 1:00:16Speaker 4: expecting to win that ball game with everything they've got back,
- 1:00:19Speaker 4: especially on offense.
- 1:00:20Speaker 3: So I like Tech.
- 1:00:21Speaker 4: I think they may be that team that pops forward
- 1:00:23Speaker 4: out of the next group.
- 1:00:24Speaker 3: So I agree with you. I think Over is probably
- 1:00:27Speaker 3: a good play here.
- 1:00:28Speaker 1: Next team is my spot.
- 1:00:29Speaker 3: This.
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: I like this team a lot. You see up in
- 1:00:31Speaker 2: the gust Bus comes in here in year two. This
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: will be his third year, your three that we've got here.
- 1:00:38Speaker 2: This is three, three or four.
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: Maybe four fourth year. This is fourth or fourth.
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: Year, so that this was by far the best team
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: that moved from the American that came into the Big
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: twelve from last year. They got some transfers that come in,
- 1:00:48Speaker 2: biggest name being kJ Jefferson, who was the longtime quarterback
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: at Arkansas. You get the gust Bus, you know, comparison
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: to Cam Newton, which I don't think is terrible. I mean,
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: Kj's a big kid. He played injured quite a bit
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: last year, and I think Arkansas just kind of gave
- 1:01:07Speaker 2: up on him.
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: They welcomed him to UCF.
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: You see, like I said earlier on the podcast, I
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: think they got the best running back room in the conference,
- 1:01:15Speaker 2: maybe one of the better running back rooms in the
- 1:01:17Speaker 2: country when you go look at who's on there and defensively,
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: I think this team's gonna make a step up. I
- 1:01:22Speaker 2: think Gus has got a good squad here. This team
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: went six and seven last year, three and six in conference.
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: I liked this team quite a bit. At plus nine fifty,
- 1:01:31Speaker 2: I would split a unit between them in Texas Tech
- 1:01:34Speaker 2: to get a chance to win the conference in the spot,
- 1:01:36Speaker 2: I mean, you're looking at a long shot here, So
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: fifty dollars bet to win five hundred, I'm not against it.
- 1:01:41Speaker 3: Well, you know my thing on this team, I think
- 1:01:45Speaker 3: they can pop forward. I think Jefferson's a great fit.
- 1:01:48Speaker 4: I've said this numerous times over the years on this podcast.
- 1:01:52Speaker 4: Going way back to him at Auburn, Gus Buss has
- 1:01:54Speaker 4: never developed a quarterback.
- 1:01:56Speaker 3: He either took a guy who had.
- 1:01:58Speaker 4: Tons of ability with Cam Newton when he was the
- 1:02:00Speaker 4: assistant calling plays.
- 1:02:03Speaker 3: Ah, what was a skinny kid that played quarterback? After that?
- 1:02:05Speaker 3: That was electric?
- 1:02:06Speaker 4: Such a such a good athlete for them at quarterback
- 1:02:10Speaker 4: at Auburn. But when he's got to develop a guy,
- 1:02:13Speaker 4: just look at how poor of the job he was
- 1:02:14Speaker 4: doing developing Bonicks. I mean it was a disaster, and
- 1:02:20Speaker 4: I mean that kid looked lost. Nobody needed a reboot
- 1:02:24Speaker 4: at Oregon more than that kid did after Gus Busts
- 1:02:27Speaker 4: and Brian Harson and then he gets out there in
- 1:02:30Speaker 4: Boom and do I think he was a first round
- 1:02:32Speaker 4: draft pick. No, but he turned himself into that by
- 1:02:34Speaker 4: his play. And so kudos to that guy for the
- 1:02:37Speaker 4: for the turnaround that guy had. I don't think he's
- 1:02:40Speaker 4: got a I don't think he's got a coach.
- 1:02:41Speaker 3: kJ.
- 1:02:42Speaker 4: I think kJ Jefferson's who he is and who he
- 1:02:45Speaker 4: is Fitz Gus buses offense. Gus wants a quarterback to
- 1:02:48Speaker 4: run the football. This is a big, bruising guy. They've
- 1:02:52Speaker 4: got a good running back in RJ. Harvey, uh that
- 1:02:55Speaker 4: they're gonna be able to do that. His own read
- 1:02:57Speaker 4: and that's what kJ Jefferson does the best. And he
- 1:03:00Speaker 4: could throw the football on the run, which is what
- 1:03:02Speaker 4: Gus bust wants out of a quarterback. I like his fit,
- 1:03:05Speaker 4: that's the bottom line. I think he's like a bowling ball,
- 1:03:08Speaker 4: He's gonna get him on the edge. I think Jefferson's
- 1:03:10Speaker 4: gonna get some big plays with his feet. He stays healthy,
- 1:03:13Speaker 4: that's gonna be a good football team. I just think
- 1:03:15Speaker 4: seven and a half eight is kind of right at
- 1:03:17Speaker 4: the number. You know, they're road games again, boy, all manageable,
- 1:03:22Speaker 4: hardest one at Iowa State, next at West Virginia, at
- 1:03:25Speaker 4: Arizona State, at Florida. That's a wannable game, TCU, that's
- 1:03:29Speaker 4: a winnable game. I don't think they're gonna win. A
- 1:03:32Speaker 4: couple of those I said are winnable. But at the
- 1:03:34Speaker 4: end of the day, I think this team is is
- 1:03:37Speaker 4: a is a back to winning ways.
- 1:03:39Speaker 3: I think this team wins at least seven games.
- 1:03:42Speaker 2: Next week, Guys, Scotty, the one of the new remembers
- 1:03:44Speaker 2: Utah comes in here at teams eight and five, five
- 1:03:47Speaker 2: and four. Last year in the PAC twelve, biggest story
- 1:03:49Speaker 2: of Utah last year was Cam Rising. And you know
- 1:03:52Speaker 2: we would watch every week. Well, you and I said
- 1:03:54Speaker 2: from jump there was no way he was playing last year.
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: I mean, you don't blow your a c ol out
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: in the Rose Bowl and then think you're playing four
- 1:04:01Speaker 2: months later in September six months later, whatever it.
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: Is, but I like that this roster is good.
- 1:04:08Speaker 2: And you got to realize this team last year they
- 1:04:11Speaker 2: lost their backup quarterback before the season started. They started
- 1:04:14Speaker 2: the season with their third string quarterback. At one point
- 1:04:17Speaker 2: during the season due to injuries, they were had their
- 1:04:19Speaker 2: fifth string quarterback that was playing in the spot.
- 1:04:22Speaker 1: They also bring back.
- 1:04:23Speaker 2: You could argue their best wide receiver of the tight
- 1:04:25Speaker 2: end in Brat Keithy. And these are two NFL players
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: that they've got that are in Rising and Keithy. In
- 1:04:31Speaker 2: this offensive line, I think should be steady defensively. This
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: team's always gritty. Plus three twenty to win it, give
- 1:04:38Speaker 2: me a thousand dollars. I'll lay a dime down on
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: Utah to win the conference. I would take them to
- 1:04:43Speaker 2: win the national championship. And you can look for a
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: good hedge in this spot as well. Their biggest game
- 1:04:48Speaker 2: on the schedule I think they can lose is at
- 1:04:50Speaker 2: Oklahoma State week before past that, I think this team
- 1:04:53Speaker 2: runs the table.
- 1:04:56Speaker 3: I just want to say one thing for pound.
- 1:05:00Speaker 4: No roster has a better name team than this, but
- 1:05:05Speaker 4: my favorite money.
- 1:05:07Speaker 3: Parks at wide receiver. Baby, you gotta love it.
- 1:05:10Speaker 4: I just what a great what a great name. Look,
- 1:05:12Speaker 4: I think you toald the best team in the league.
- 1:05:14Speaker 4: That's the bottom line. Uh you know this team's gonna
- 1:05:17Speaker 4: play defense.
- 1:05:18Speaker 3: They had never not. That's who Whittingham is.
- 1:05:20Speaker 4: They have the mentality of their coach who seems like
- 1:05:25Speaker 4: a hell of a likable guy who rolls up to
- 1:05:29Speaker 4: an ESPN show on Friday and a sleeveless shirt.
- 1:05:34Speaker 3: Riding to Harley.
- 1:05:35Speaker 4: But my man, Kyle Whittingham, that's just a likable dude.
- 1:05:39Speaker 4: And there's probably nobody in college football.
- 1:05:43Speaker 3: I have no idea if it's got drinks. I'm just
- 1:05:45Speaker 3: assuming he doesn't, but.
- 1:05:46Speaker 4: That I would rather go have a beer, have a
- 1:05:48Speaker 4: beer with and talk.
- 1:05:49Speaker 3: Yeah, that doesn't matter.
- 1:05:50Speaker 4: I know something to do so the uh so, I
- 1:05:52Speaker 4: mean it doesn't you know, at the end of the day,
- 1:05:54Speaker 4: you talk about a guy to.
- 1:05:55Speaker 3: Be fun to be around.
- 1:05:56Speaker 4: He just seems like a good dude, and his football
- 1:05:59Speaker 4: team and his kids seem to play like that. I mean,
- 1:06:02Speaker 4: he's got those guys wired in And at the end
- 1:06:05Speaker 4: of the day, I just think this, this team coming
- 1:06:08Speaker 4: in is equipped to play in this conference.
- 1:06:12Speaker 3: Look the Big the Big twelve.
- 1:06:13Speaker 4: A lot of times when you have teams coming in
- 1:06:15Speaker 4: We talked about this last year when they brought the
- 1:06:16Speaker 4: teams in. You have guys in aren't here. Well, those
- 1:06:19Speaker 4: teams weren't prepared from a talent standpoint. Well, I think
- 1:06:22Speaker 4: Utah is prepared from a talent standpoint. And they're also
- 1:06:25Speaker 4: coming over for a league that was wide open. Teams
- 1:06:28Speaker 4: threw it all over the yard. They're used to that,
- 1:06:32Speaker 4: and they have talent on defense and they've been the
- 1:06:34Speaker 4: best defense in that league forever.
- 1:06:37Speaker 3: They're prepared for what they're.
- 1:06:39Speaker 4: Going to see from Oklahoma State and Tech and these
- 1:06:42Speaker 4: teams that are going to spread you all up, spread
- 1:06:44Speaker 4: you all over the yard, and then but they're physical
- 1:06:48Speaker 4: enough and tough enough to go punch Iowa State and
- 1:06:51Speaker 4: Kansas State right in the mouth.
- 1:06:53Speaker 3: So very few teams come.
- 1:06:55Speaker 4: Into a league equipped to fit a league quite the
- 1:06:59Speaker 4: reason the way you is and I agree with you
- 1:07:01Speaker 4: with Rising coming back. I think that is the difference
- 1:07:04Speaker 4: because that kid was electric. Oh, I mean, he was
- 1:07:06Speaker 4: really really good for them, and I think getting him
- 1:07:09Speaker 4: back healthy is a big big deal. And look, if
- 1:07:13Speaker 4: he does get dinged up, can't play for a couple
- 1:07:15Speaker 4: of ball games. Hewart's got a lot more reps than
- 1:07:17Speaker 4: he had I mean, boy, you're talking about a guy
- 1:07:19Speaker 4: who's the number two.
- 1:07:20Speaker 3: Rated quarterback in the country coming out of high school.
- 1:07:22Speaker 3: So yes, he lived up to that. Is that player?
- 1:07:24Speaker 3: Certainly not.
- 1:07:25Speaker 4: But the guy got some good experience and I think
- 1:07:29Speaker 4: can help them manage and get through some ballgames if
- 1:07:32Speaker 4: that's the case. But I ain't Rising is a big,
- 1:07:34Speaker 4: big difference.
- 1:07:35Speaker 3: I think this team's gonna be good.
- 1:07:36Speaker 4: I think their offensive line and their defensive lines are
- 1:07:39Speaker 4: going to always be what they are. I ain't his
- 1:07:41Speaker 4: defense has got a chance to be nasty, I mean nasty.
- 1:07:45Speaker 3: So I like you, Tall, I think their best team
- 1:07:47Speaker 3: in the league.
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: Like I totally agree with you. And that thing too
- 1:07:51Speaker 2: is their schedule. They go to Oklahoma State, they avoid
- 1:07:55Speaker 2: everybody else in the Big two. Arizona comes up there
- 1:07:58Speaker 2: to rice Ecles, they'll win that game. Arizona State, They're
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: gonna crush them. TCU has to come to rice Ecles.
- 1:08:05Speaker 2: This teams haven't played each other since they were in
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: the Mountain West years and years ago. But I don't
- 1:08:09Speaker 2: think the Big twelve teams are ready to go to
- 1:08:11Speaker 2: right Big twelve stadiums, to be honest with you, other
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: than Texas and Oklahoma home field advantage doesn't mean a
- 1:08:17Speaker 2: whole lot. I mean, Tech, you're way out there in
- 1:08:19Speaker 2: an island. If you're going to West Virginia and Kanchy Roads,
- 1:08:22Speaker 2: it's weird go to rice Ecles for a big game.
- 1:08:25Speaker 2: It is an electric environment. Plus you're playing at altitude.
- 1:08:28Speaker 2: So if you look at that, I mean they've got TCU, Houston,
- 1:08:31Speaker 2: b WAYU, Colorado. Those none of those teams. I mean
- 1:08:34Speaker 2: they played one, two, three, four five. They played five
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: weeks in a row against teams that may not have
- 1:08:39Speaker 2: a winning record when they play them. And so I think,
- 1:08:42Speaker 2: I think this team could roll through here and then
- 1:08:44Speaker 2: Iowa State has to come up there and play, and
- 1:08:47Speaker 2: then they go to UCF. Well, by then, you know
- 1:08:50Speaker 2: the Orlando heat and humidity will be gone because you're
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: playing Thanksgiving. And so I think it's in Utah's done
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: that they've gone down to the swamp and played Florida
- 1:08:58Speaker 2: in September. So this is an interesting spot for me.
- 1:09:01Speaker 2: And I would even tell you I can't find the
- 1:09:02Speaker 2: odds on it. Cam Rising. Let's see, you can get
- 1:09:08Speaker 2: you a little Cam Rising at thirty five to one to.
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: Win the Heisman.
- 1:09:13Speaker 2: Now, if this team's undefeated, that's not a bad pizza
- 1:09:16Speaker 2: money bat. And I'm not a big Heisman Trophy better.
- 1:09:19Speaker 2: But I'm just saying he's got a defense to back him.
- 1:09:22Speaker 2: He's gonna put some numbers up. He's got a great
- 1:09:25Speaker 2: tight end that's gonna bail him out of a lot
- 1:09:27Speaker 2: any trouble he runs into. And he's got it. I mean,
- 1:09:29Speaker 2: I'm telling you, this is a good team. I would
- 1:09:32Speaker 2: take them anyway you can and wrap them up in
- 1:09:34Speaker 2: a piece of bacon.
- 1:09:34Speaker 1: That's what I would do. Last team.
- 1:09:37Speaker 3: I like this team. I agree with you, and I
- 1:09:39Speaker 3: like this team.
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: I like this rush.
- 1:09:41Speaker 2: Last team. West Virginia Mountaineers Country Roads Take me Home, Baby.
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: One of the hardest places to go play and win,
- 1:09:47Speaker 2: in my personal opinion, for a small stadium like they've
- 1:09:49Speaker 2: got nestled into the back of the mountains.
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: The fans are great.
- 1:09:53Speaker 2: I was so excited to see Neil Brown have a
- 1:09:55Speaker 2: good season last year. I was convinced if they didn't
- 1:09:58Speaker 2: play well, he was gonna be gone. Garrett Green, the
- 1:10:00Speaker 2: quarterback for this team, vastly exceeded my expectations. This team
- 1:10:05Speaker 2: was physical last year. I thought they took that and
- 1:10:08Speaker 2: they ran with it. I like everything I saw by them.
- 1:10:11Speaker 2: I'm super interested to watch them play Penn State to
- 1:10:13Speaker 2: open up the season. Season over under win total for
- 1:10:16Speaker 2: this team I think is like seven and a half eight.
- 1:10:19Speaker 2: Their odds to win the conference championship are way down
- 1:10:22Speaker 2: there at eighteen to one.
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: I probably wouldn't play them there.
- 1:10:25Speaker 2: This is a team I look to dip in and
- 1:10:26Speaker 2: out of as the season goes on once they get rolling.
- 1:10:29Speaker 2: But I love the fact from a scheduling perspective that
- 1:10:32Speaker 2: they're taking on Penn State and Pittsburgh to open up
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: the year because that's right there in the meat of
- 1:10:37Speaker 2: their recruiting bed. And I can see Penn State overlooking
- 1:10:39Speaker 2: this West Virginia team and they come out ready to play.
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: I think Penn State can come back, win eight to
- 1:10:45Speaker 2: nine games and have another great season. Neil Brown's back
- 1:10:48Speaker 2: there again, and look for Garrett Green to put up
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: some pretty good numbers as well.
- 1:10:52Speaker 4: Zeroaded out AD's red Fire Nick Neil Brown. With a
- 1:10:55Speaker 4: schedule nine game schedules, you don't play Penn State and
- 1:10:59Speaker 4: Pittsburgh or two gigantic games back to you know, basically
- 1:11:03Speaker 4: in an iis conference schedule that gives you one game,
- 1:11:08Speaker 4: that gives you a lay down.
- 1:11:11Speaker 3: I just think that's bad scheduling For a program like
- 1:11:13Speaker 3: West Virginia.
- 1:11:14Speaker 4: Mississippi State was going and scheduling three really tough games
- 1:11:19Speaker 4: for their head coach, I would be ready to fire
- 1:11:22Speaker 4: an athletic director.
- 1:11:23Speaker 3: That's just bad scheduling. That's that's my opinion.
- 1:11:26Speaker 4: This is not a program, but it is different if
- 1:11:29Speaker 4: it's Alabama sc Notre Dame.
- 1:11:32Speaker 3: Those guys recruit on a totally.
- 1:11:34Speaker 4: Different level than West Virginia and Mississippi State and guys
- 1:11:38Speaker 4: like that Penn State. I mean, they recruit on totally
- 1:11:40Speaker 4: different level. In West Virginia, saddling.
- 1:11:43Speaker 3: Them with eleven tough ball games, I think it's four scheduling.
- 1:11:46Speaker 3: That's just my opinion.
- 1:11:48Speaker 4: I just don't think that's what you do if you're
- 1:11:50Speaker 4: trying to set your program up for success.
- 1:11:53Speaker 3: Just think about it.
- 1:11:54Speaker 4: That's two cupcakes to go along with that nine game schedule.
- 1:11:58Speaker 4: And could this team all of a sudden get back
- 1:12:01Speaker 4: and win six, seven, eight games. Yep, probably so when
- 1:12:03Speaker 4: you look at the schedule. But instead they saddle them,
- 1:12:06Speaker 4: uh with a with a tough deal. Boy, those first
- 1:12:08Speaker 4: four weeks are critical. They got to figure out how
- 1:12:11Speaker 4: to get two and two out of a really, really
- 1:12:13Speaker 4: tough schedule.
- 1:12:14Speaker 3: It's a really good football team.
- 1:12:15Speaker 4: If they're three and one and then they lost, they're
- 1:12:19Speaker 4: a really good football team. I think I think Pittsburgh's
- 1:12:21Speaker 4: gonna be a little bit better.
- 1:12:23Speaker 3: That's a war because of just how close.
- 1:12:24Speaker 4: I mean, these teams are an hour apart, you know,
- 1:12:27Speaker 4: So that's gonna be a war. It sets up really
- 1:12:30Speaker 4: tough for them before this, before the schedule even starts.
- 1:12:33Speaker 4: So while I love Neil Brown and I hope he's successful,
- 1:12:36Speaker 4: I hope he goes and WINSDA Night and games. Again,
- 1:12:38Speaker 4: I think I think he didn't get done any favors
- 1:12:40Speaker 4: by the scheduling because and now they are lucky in
- 1:12:44Speaker 4: the fact that they do miss some of the better teams.
- 1:12:47Speaker 3: They miss Utah, but they're at.
- 1:12:48Speaker 4: Oklahoma State, they got k State at home, they got
- 1:12:51Speaker 4: Iowa State at home. That's and they got at Arizona.
- 1:12:55Speaker 4: That's four to five best teams in this league and
- 1:12:58Speaker 4: they play two of them on the road. I just
- 1:12:59Speaker 4: don't set up well. I think this is gonna be
- 1:13:01Speaker 4: a I think they do a really good job to
- 1:13:04Speaker 4: get Bowl eligible with this schedule.
- 1:13:06Speaker 2: I like them, but seven eight wins is probably where
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: I think eight wins would top it out for me.
- 1:13:11Speaker 2: But I would love to see them beat Penn State
- 1:13:13Speaker 2: week one. Scottie, too, Big Twelve. I think we're pretty
- 1:13:17Speaker 2: much in lockstep on what we think. Utah Baby, get
- 1:13:20Speaker 2: you a unit. Cut it up a couple of ways.
- 1:13:22Speaker 2: Take them to win the conference, take a shot on
- 1:13:24Speaker 2: them to win the Take a shot on them to
- 1:13:27Speaker 2: win the Natty because you can put a hedge in there.
- 1:13:28Speaker 2: I like Oklahoma State is my second team in that one.
- 1:13:31Speaker 2: I think Scott's more on the Arizona train, but I
- 1:13:35Speaker 2: think the Big Twelve is gonna be fascinating the season.
- 1:13:39Speaker 4: I think the I think the four best teams head
- 1:13:42Speaker 4: and shoulders are k State, Oklahoma State, Utah, and that
- 1:13:46Speaker 4: Arizona's got a chance to slide in there.
- 1:13:48Speaker 3: I do think Arizona's.
- 1:13:49Speaker 4: Got a chance just from the experience at the line
- 1:13:51Speaker 4: of scrimmage, quarterback and those good wide receivers to make
- 1:13:55Speaker 4: some hay. But I think the winner of the k
- 1:13:57Speaker 4: State Oklahoma State game will be the other team in
- 1:14:00Speaker 4: the finals.
- 1:14:00Speaker 3: If you made me.
- 1:14:01Speaker 2: Pick sounds good, brother. With that being said, that's the
- 1:14:04Speaker 2: Big Twelve. We'll put that in the can. We'll be
- 1:14:06Speaker 2: back to you next week with the ACC and then
- 1:14:08Speaker 2: we'll knock out the group of five conferences as we'll
- 1:14:11Speaker 2: be ready for college football in five saturdays is all
- 1:14:15Speaker 2: we've got left before you get opening week and four
- 1:14:17Speaker 2: saturdays if you've got a week zero game. And so yeah,
- 1:14:20Speaker 2: we're right there on the cusp.
- 1:14:22Speaker 3: Man.
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: I am excited. I'm excited.
- 1:14:26Speaker 3: Yeah, it's gonna be fun. That's gonna be a great year.
- 1:14:28Speaker 4: I d about getting back going.
- 1:14:32Speaker 3: Uh.
- 1:14:33Speaker 4: Someone was making jokes the other night about uh, about
- 1:14:38Speaker 4: needing to get a second job with inflation and you
- 1:14:40Speaker 4: know how much they're spending on vacations.
- 1:14:43Speaker 3: Et cetera. I was like, I got a second job.
- 1:14:45Speaker 4: You just need to start listening to the Crazy Sheet
- 1:14:47Speaker 4: and start gambling, baby. I was like, that's the deal.
- 1:14:50Speaker 4: That's where you make your cheese in the fall.
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: I did. I did pretty well last fall.
