- 0:06Hello, what's your least favorite scary movie?
- 0:11It's called completion anxiety. We're going to watch you Laser
- 0:15Scary Movie, the podcast. We talk about the good, the bad,
- 0:18the ugly and the absurd, and all of our.
- 0:20Movie and least favorite scary movies because we believe every
- 0:23horror movie rightfully has its fanbase, even if.
- 0:25We don't always get. It my name is Travis.
- 0:28My name is Jesse. And welcome back everybody to
- 0:31our Chucky Series coverage. Ironically, I didn't finish
- 0:36writing out the opening quote. You didn't.
- 0:38That's why I started like. I.
- 0:41Was wondering OK it's called completion anxiety.
- 0:47Wow, not fitting. Nice.
- 0:50So perfect, yeah. Hey.
- 0:52All right. So yeah, we're having fun today,
- 0:54you guys. We're back on our Chucky yeah
- 0:57coverage here, So we're gonna be digging into that here in just a
- 1:00few moments. But before we get into any of
- 1:03that, do we have any announcements?
- 1:05Yes. Over the weekend we recorded our
- 1:07monthly bonus series To Be or Not to Be and we talked about
- 1:10another Cabin in the Woods movie.
- 1:12Very funny, would recommend. So go check out the movie and
- 1:15then check out our episode on it.
- 1:17Yeah, absolutely. That's a great time.
- 1:19All right. Other than that, I have poll
- 1:22results today. Yeah, somebody remembered.
- 1:27Give me a pat on the back right there.
- 1:29My hands full. All right, I'll pat myself
- 1:32there. You go, there we go.
- 1:34Good job. All right.
- 1:34That's why stretching is important.
- 1:36Yeah. Rule 18.
- 1:37Prep. OK, so we talked about
- 1:40Zombieland last week and there was a debate on the episode
- 1:44about whether or not Columbus pooped during that one scene.
- 1:48Yeah, the opening scene at the gas station.
- 1:49Yeah, if he went #2 as in poop, or if he went #2 as in did the
- 1:54number two rule double tap? So we took it to the people and
- 1:58the people have spoken. What did the people spake?
- 2:02Spake well, 83 of them. Spaked.
- 2:06Beaked. Fake is already past tense.
- 2:09Fake. Is fake an actual word?
- 2:11I think it's like old Tiny, really.
- 2:13Maybe I might have made it up. Shakespeare might have made it
- 2:15up. Dude was always making up words.
- 2:17Yeah, that's true. OK so 83% of the people said
- 2:20that he did poop. Ha. 17 said that he did the
- 2:24double tap role. I mean he could have done both,
- 2:27but I think it was definitely implied he pooped.
- 2:29He definitely did the double tap role because we get the rule
- 2:32right there. Although it would be funny if
- 2:34that came down when he pooped. Also like double tap when he's
- 2:38pooping. That's so stupid, I'm sorry.
- 2:42You know, it was really fun, like really furious and furious.
- 2:46Oh God. What was really frustrating was
- 2:49trying to find things for that by looking up zombie when double
- 2:55tap stuff. And then it's just here's the
- 2:57sequel because that's the sequel name.
- 3:00Yeah. It was really, really tough for
- 3:02me to find that. So thanks everybody for putting
- 3:05that one to bed. So I guess he he went poopy.
- 3:08He shat the bed. Yeah, we can confirm now that he
- 3:10actually did shit his pants. Thank you for the vindication.
- 3:13I'm fine, listeners. I'm willing to give that one to
- 3:17you guys. OK, All right, so now with those
- 3:20out of the way, let's get into cursive Chucky.
- 3:25Not cursive. Chucky.
- 3:27Curse of Chucky. Curse of Oh right, you were
- 3:30giving me shit about that last night, but the way I said it.
- 3:33Because you pulled a jaw and said Curse of Chucky.
- 3:38Curse of Chucky, Yeah. Yeah.
- 3:42OK. It's because I get mixed up
- 3:44between Cold of Chucky all the time, so it's easy for that to
- 3:47be mistaken, I think. All right, Anyways, Cursive
- 3:51Chucky released August 2nd, 2013.
- 3:55It premiered at that day at the Fantasia Film Festival.
- 3:58Okay, okay. Wide release.
- 4:00It's went on VOD September 24th, 2013, and then it hit Blu-ray
- 4:06October 8th, 2013. All right, we watched it on
- 4:10Shutter. Yes, 'cause we actually don't
- 4:12own this one. I was surprised by that because
- 4:14I again, I got it mixed up with Colt of Chucky.
- 4:17Yeah, you really. We definitely own it.
- 4:18I was like, we definitely don't. You're like, it's right there.
- 4:20Oh. Yeah, a little bit of a
- 4:22disappointment there, but it's OK.
- 4:24We'll be prepared next month. If you don't have it like us,
- 4:28you can watch it on Shutter AMC Plus.
- 4:31Yep, or you can rent it from Amazon, YouTube, Apple or
- 4:36Fandango at home. Lots of options, it's out there.
- 4:39It is written and directed by Don Mancini, music by Joseph La
- 4:44Ducha, special effects makeup by Alterian Incorporated, which is
- 4:52Tony Gardner's company. Love that for him.
- 4:56Starring Fiona Dorf as Nika, Danielle Biscuti as Barb.
- 5:02Is it Biscuti or Biscuti? Because I'm pretty sure it said
- 5:05Biscuti last night and then I made the Biscuti joke.
- 5:09I I wrote biscuti here. I just we generally thought it
- 5:13was Biscuti here we. Sometimes call Scout a little
- 5:15biscuti cookie. Yeah, and we know it's biscotti.
- 5:21It's a layered joke, people. We we call her Scooty Cat.
- 5:25Yeah. Sweet, but junior.
- 5:27Chateau Kissnell as Sarah, Brendan Phil Brendan Elliot as
- 5:34Ian. Let's call it Philiot.
- 5:39I am fucking. I'm fucked up today.
- 5:41Summer a chow is Alex. I'm not drunk yet.
- 5:45Drunk. Fucked up?
- 5:46No, it's. Just this is just who he is as a
- 5:48person. Yeah, coming off of a Cabin in
- 5:51the Woods episode recording. We should have waited till
- 5:53earlier to. Do that Maitland McConnell is
- 5:57Jill A Martinez as Father Frank, Brad Duriff as Chucky, Jennifer
- 6:03Tilley as Tiff, and Alex Benson as Andy.
- 6:06All right. All right, time for our favorite
- 6:09game on the show budget or button, I'm gonna say.
- 6:15I feel like this one is probably lower budget.
- 6:17OK, like the single occasion, much smaller cast and I feel
- 6:20like we're a lot back to basics with it.
- 6:22So by lower budget you still think it is budget or do you
- 6:25think it's bug Ted? I think it's high bug Ted.
- 6:27High bug, Ted. Yeah, I think it's lower budget
- 6:29compared to some of the the more recent ones before it.
- 6:32OK. So you are correctish.
- 6:35It's big mid bug Ted. OK, it's $5,000,000.
- 6:39Yeah. So they still had a healthy
- 6:41budget there, but it's definitely scaled back compared
- 6:44to the others. Opening box office I do not have
- 6:48since this was a straight to video release.
- 6:51However, I do have what it grossed in its first month of
- 6:55sales. OK, so the gross from Blu-ray
- 6:58sales was 3.8 million in the first month.
- 7:03Wow. Really, really good.
- 7:05So they definitely made the budget back on this thing.
- 7:08Good. With that combined with
- 7:10streaming deals and VOD, yeah, they they did good.
- 7:13I'm happy. For them, yeah.
- 7:15IMDb 5.6 OK, OK, not terrible, not terrible.
- 7:21That's the same. As another Cabin in the Woods
- 7:22movie. That's true.
- 7:23It's also higher than Cedar Chucky by pretty much a whole
- 7:27point. So I think that's rude.
- 7:30Don Mancini would agree with you.
- 7:32Don, let's get a beer and talk about it.
- 7:34I would love to hear him talk about that.
- 7:36Me and Don will get a beer and talk about it, and then I'll get
- 7:39a beer. I'll get a whiskey with John
- 7:42Carpenter, and then me and Don will watch the two of you fight.
- 7:45I. Was going to say, where do I
- 7:46play in any of this? You're just going to be having
- 7:48all this mingling going on with these board directors.
- 7:50For the fight, No. John can take you down drunk.
- 7:53I think you. Need all your faculties.
- 7:56I need to have the pain numbs to be able to handle that emotional
- 8:01and physical. OK so I have a theme from 2013
- 8:06here. OK, so I figured it would be
- 8:09interesting to do the new crop of the horror director rider
- 8:15legends that have come up in that era.
- 8:19Next Gen. Yeah, Next Gen.
- 8:20We have Don Mancini, who is part of the OG Gen. here.
- 8:24This is the next Gen. of people, OK.
- 8:27Yeah. And miraculously.
- 8:29Versus young guys, yeah. Yeah, Ink Master.
- 8:36This episode's so weird. OK, yeah, surprisingly, we
- 8:42actually had three people here that have, like, consistently
- 8:45been putting out amazing shit over the past decade.
- 8:50OK, so this is. Excited for this list?
- 8:52So movie #1 Evil Dead. Oh yeah, that one all.
- 8:58By the way, all of these people are writer and directors on each
- 9:00of their movies here. This guy is Fede Alvarez.
- 9:04Can I tell a really embarrassing story related to this, please?
- 9:08We met Lauren Lavera at Ski Fest last year, and I asked who her
- 9:12favorite final girl was, and she said, have you seen the new Evil
- 9:16Dead? And I was like, no, I haven't
- 9:17seen that one. And you're like, yes, you have.
- 9:19And I was like, no, I haven't. You're like we watched it in
- 9:21theaters together. Yeah, I remember that.
- 9:24My brain short circuited and I thought she said Resident Evil.
- 9:27Oh so. Like I was like, oh man, I
- 9:31seemed like such a. Dumb.
- 9:32No, it was it was good. You, you all fan y'all?
- 9:37Y'all really connected hard. Yeah, maybe they should have.
- 9:40Just felt bad for me because it was so stupid.
- 9:44So that movie came out April 5th, 2013.
- 9:48Okay, 17 million budget 97 million.
- 9:51Yeah, that was such a I don't know what I expected from him,
- 9:55but I didn't expect it. I didn't expect that.
- 9:57It was amazing. I remember walking out of the
- 9:59theatre with you being like, what the fuck did we just watch?
- 10:02And he just did the new alien Romulus.
- 10:05Exactly. It's that was a murder.
- 10:07This guy has put out consistently amazing shit.
- 10:11He is a very good director, writer.
- 10:13I'm super. I don't think I've seen anything
- 10:15from him that I've not watched. Very very perfect conclusion in
- 10:18the list. Did I say the IMDb?
- 10:20No I did not. It's 6.5.
- 10:23OK, OK. Rude.
- 10:24I really do think that one commands the seven at least at
- 10:27the very least. Yeah, the raining blood at the
- 10:30end. So good.
- 10:31Not like in the Slayer way, but like just.
- 10:33Yeah, with it actually happening in the movie way, Yeah, that was
- 10:37amazing. I loved it.
- 10:38All right #2? Oculus, which was from Mike
- 10:43Flanagan. That movie.
- 10:46We watched that in theaters. Too.
- 10:47Yeah, we did. Mike Flanagan, God bless this
- 10:50man. So I got really invested in the
- 10:53Netflix series he did. Midnight Mass.
- 10:57No, not midnight mass. It was the good it's based off
- 11:01of. Hill House.
- 11:03No the 1 I actually watched. I don't know, I didn't watch it
- 11:07with you. No, it's the one about the kids
- 11:10in the home like they're all terminal.
- 11:12It's like all of them. No, it's based off of it's based
- 11:17off of a book I read when I was younger.
- 11:20Anyway. Like they cancelled it after one
- 11:24season, he didn't get wrap UPS on any of the storylines and he
- 11:29puts together a detailed fucking Tumblr post for us and he was
- 11:32like here were my plans for this series bitches.
- 11:35That's cool that he did that. I respect.
- 11:37That Mike Flanagan's a real one. I like him.
- 11:40Yeah, his movies aren't my personal thing.
- 11:43His shows are not my personal thing.
- 11:44I've given them a shot. Once I finally read Doctor
- 11:47Sleep, I want to watch Doctor Sleep.
- 11:49I'd watch it with you because like I liked his jolts game
- 11:52adaptation that he did that was a really good.
- 11:54Movie. It was really good.
- 11:56He's he's hit or miss for me. He's got this movie was a hit
- 11:58for me. I liked Oculus away.
- 12:00It was like a surprising hit. Yeah, it was a mind fuck.
- 12:04So that originally premiered September 8th, 2013.
- 12:08Five million budget, same as our Curse of Chucky movie here.
- 12:13Worldwide gross 44 million IMDb 6.5.
- 12:17OK again. Yeah, all right, that one.
- 12:20That one's a bummer of an ending, too.
- 12:22Yes, it is. Yes.
- 12:24OK, all right. And the final movie.
- 12:26Final youngin. All how was Eve?
- 12:295 yes. Of course, you got to throw
- 12:33Damian Leone in here. He's created a brand new slasher
- 12:36icon. Now I get why you were like
- 12:39laughing where you thought I was going to mention Terrifier 3 in
- 12:42the two years 3 episode. OK.
- 12:43Yeah. So, yeah, that released October
- 12:4729th, 2013, five $100,000 budget, although I'm skeptical
- 12:52of that considering how little money he had for Terrifier One.
- 12:56Yeah, but I do remember this movie was part of a deal that
- 13:00you got where they're like, whoa, wait, you distribute your
- 13:03Terrifier short, but you got to do like, an anthology movie with
- 13:07multiple other shorts. Yeah, which I think he did.
- 13:10All of them. And we I remember renting this
- 13:13watching this in your scary ass apartment.
- 13:16That's the perfect setting for. It, yeah, it was very effective
- 13:19because the movie itself, it still scares the shit out of me
- 13:21to watch, honestly. Some of some of the segments are
- 13:24kind of hit or miss, but the art the crown ones are great.
- 13:27Especially the end when he's coming out of the tape.
- 13:29Oh my God, that is great. Yeah, but I just remember the
- 13:32pure joy when we found out he was doing a full length
- 13:35Terrifier movie. Yeah, yeah, I remember.
- 13:37That was great History, man, History.
- 13:40All right, That didn't have a gross list, but I do have the
- 13:43IMDb, which is 52. OK, so it's still solid.
- 13:47Yeah, that is the weakest of all of these here.
- 13:49And I mean, honestly, like with anthology films, it's always
- 13:53going to be, I feel like anthology films are always going
- 13:55to be kind of, Oh yeah, the middle of the road rating.
- 13:58Also that one right there, you know, he really, he was only
- 14:01interested in the Terrifier story and he made the others
- 14:05just so he can get the whole thing put out there.
- 14:08I mean, it's been his lifelong passion project, so.
- 14:10Yeah, you respect it. Yeah, and don't worry people,
- 14:14calm the fuck down. We are going to talk about
- 14:16terrifying very soon. I don't know why I'm so
- 14:19impressive right now. You're getting dumb with the
- 14:22coffee. I'm getting impressed.
- 14:25This is what the coffee does. Duality.
- 14:28Yeah. Realistically, we'll probably
- 14:31end up covering that next month. Like honestly so.
- 14:33Yeah, because there's no way we're not going to get it as
- 14:35soon as it's out. It is coming out next month.
- 14:38So oh, yeah, All right. Tag lines.
- 14:41These tag lines fucking suck. I know I'm not.
- 14:45There's not even one on the poster.
- 14:46Oh. No.
- 14:48This one right here. I hate this.
- 14:50I hate this tagline. Be afraid, be effing afraid.
- 14:57What the fuck is that? Effing EFFING be effing afraid.
- 15:04I don't. That's so half assed.
- 15:07It's so misses the point of Chucky too.
- 15:10Yeah, right. I don't get it.
- 15:12Oh, boy, that was terrible. Oh.
- 15:14Boy, that's not a good time setter.
- 15:15No. All right, Next up, This one's a
- 15:17little bit a little bit better. Foul mouth, foul temper.
- 15:23That's me right now. That's true, and the final fear
- 15:30has a new home. That that's actually pretty OK.
- 15:34It's super generic. I mean, it is super generic, but
- 15:37like, you know, I get it. Like we're switching families
- 15:41and locations and whatnot. The only reason you're talking
- 15:44positively about this one is because the 1st 2 sucked so
- 15:46hard. Probably, yeah.
- 15:49Yeah, OK, so we're done with the tackling part.
- 15:54We can all not be mad about that one.
- 15:55Calm down, Jesse. Calm down.
- 15:59OK, Fun. Jesse's getting upset.
- 16:02Let's do fun facts. Let's see if I can talk through
- 16:04this. Yay.
- 16:06OK, fun facts. Fun facts.
- 16:10So the movie began production in September 2012, but discussions
- 16:16of a reboot first began back in 2008.
- 16:20They originally went with the decision to do a full blown
- 16:24remake. OK, yeah, they thought that
- 16:27doing that over a sequel would be a good response to the fans
- 16:33not liking where the Chucky series went previously with Seed
- 16:37of Chucky. OK, they wanted to address it
- 16:39and turn it back to pure horror instead of making it a comedy.
- 16:43OK. Yeah, Yeah, yeah.
- 16:44I definitely get that tonal shift with this.
- 16:46Yeah. And then they kind of ditched
- 16:50the well, Also, another reason they wanted to do the remake
- 16:53thing is because that was the thing of this era.
- 16:55Back in the 2000s, every every franchise was getting remakes.
- 16:59Yeah, that's true. I mean one of the movies you
- 17:01picked to talk about Evil Dead. Evil Dead, exactly.
- 17:04Yeah. So yeah, that was part of it.
- 17:07And also, they didn't do that because the original movie was
- 17:15done by MGM, the sequel by Universal.
- 17:20They had rights split all over the place with that they they
- 17:23made it kind of a nightmare to get an actual true original
- 17:28remake off the ground. Yeah.
- 17:30So they ended up going with sequel because of that, but.
- 17:33Isn't that why the name change was kind of more like cursive
- 17:37Chucky instead of Child's play? That's also why the sequel is or
- 17:41not the sequel. The the remake that we actually
- 17:44do get is entirely different because that was MGM doing their
- 17:47remake and casting Mark Hamill as Chucky instead.
- 17:51They also changed the name of a good guy to like Buddy.
- 17:54Yeah, Yeah. But also like during the time
- 17:56they had like it's like as far as like as far back as 2009,
- 18:00they had plans to do a remake and also a spin off.
- 18:04So yeah, I guess the spin off never really came into fruition,
- 18:07but at the time the movie was titled Revenge of Chucky I feel.
- 18:10Like they had their base, all of the Chucky movies are rooted in
- 18:15revenge. They really are.
- 18:16This is literally his entire motive from the first time we
- 18:19see him. I feel like that could be like a
- 18:21thing, like a meta thing, Like, OK, we hear you.
- 18:23We're bringing Michael back. Revenge.
- 18:25I know revenge is five. That's the one everybody hates.
- 18:30We're doubling down. We're going to give Chucky a fat
- 18:33neck. Yes.
- 18:36Speaking of that. The fathead he had in this.
- 18:38One, yeah, Speaking of that, Chucky's new design.
- 18:41So they asked, I was reading an interview and they were asking
- 18:45about why they decided to change to the design.
- 18:48And then he didn't really want to like, spoil it.
- 18:50He's like, well, I mean, really, it kind of goes back to it.
- 18:53But really the reason that we had that first is because it was
- 18:57kind of like a, it kind of had a spiritual remake feel to it, if
- 19:04that makes sense, by introducing them here with that new makeup
- 19:08to him. But also they wanted to hit that
- 19:12balance of like the innocent good guy doll of the originals
- 19:15and just kind of make him subtly creepy at the same time.
- 19:18Subtle. It depends.
- 19:20Yeah. I mean, he, he looks very, he's
- 19:22more uncanny valley in this one than he is in any of the others.
- 19:25Yeah, yeah. It's definitely different.
- 19:28A funny thing, though, at the premiere at the Fantasia Film
- 19:31Festival, somebody has stunts. Mancini, How come he looks like
- 19:34Matt Damon in some scenes? What she actually appreciates?
- 19:37Like you know what? I've never heard that one
- 19:39before. Fiona Deriff actually read for
- 19:44Barb originally. Oh man.
- 19:47She. So they asked if she was brought
- 19:50in because of the connection between her and Brad.
- 19:53Her dad? Yeah.
- 19:54Her dad, Brad. Yeah.
- 19:56Mad dad, Brad. Yeah, yeah.
- 19:58Sad dad, Brad. Sad dad, mad Brad.
- 20:00Mad sad dad Brad. Yes, and she said I can't really
- 20:04say speak to that part of it, but I can speak to my side of
- 20:07it. She said she didn't really have
- 20:09much of A connection with Don Mancini.
- 20:11She'd only met him like one time before, but they her agent
- 20:15called her and they're like just took apart and she chose Barb
- 20:19went in there, wanted to read for it.
- 20:21Don Mancini thought that she was more fitting for Fiona, probably
- 20:25because he wanted. Oh, yeah, Nika, I'm sorry.
- 20:28She was for for a year. Yeah.
- 20:31Yeah. Maybe acting isn't the
- 20:33profession for you. So he insisted that she do that,
- 20:38and she did. She did her first reading there
- 20:40for everybody. And she says that she bombed.
- 20:43She says that she did not do a good job with it.
- 20:46They gave her some notes from her audition and they told her
- 20:51be more likable, be more pretty. Damn.
- 20:55That's harsh. Fiona's so pretty.
- 20:58She is. She's super like.
- 21:00And she's also, she's really, she's really sweet.
- 21:03She's at Scarefest a couple years ago too.
- 21:05Her laugh. Would you like Brad's?
- 21:08Yeah. Oh my God.
- 21:10She was nice. She looked like she was
- 21:11interacting with fans really well.
- 21:12I really wanted us to meet her. She would make people set their
- 21:15stuff down. She'd be like, no, no, no, come
- 21:16on, you're gonna have these pictures forever.
- 21:17Set it right down on the table. That's cool.
- 21:19Yeah. She was really sweet.
- 21:21Yeah. So you can't.
- 21:22Believe that they told her she needed to be prettier.
- 21:25I know. Well, she kind of took it to
- 21:28heart. So her agent took her, went on a
- 21:32shopping spree, took her to a makeup artist to go get this
- 21:35stuff. And then she acknowledged I
- 21:36should have been doing this stuff a long time ago.
- 21:38I guess she was maybe like, unkept whenever she was doing
- 21:41this. Like, maybe she was just kind of
- 21:43like, not really taking, like, really putting any effort into,
- 21:47you know, putting yourself together.
- 21:49And when she did that, she went in, she did the reading again,
- 21:52and then that's when she nailed the part and she got it.
- 21:55OK, well. It's super mean.
- 21:57At least they gave her a chance to read again.
- 21:59Yeah, for sure. Like they wanted her to.
- 22:01Like it seems like they were rooting for her.
- 22:03Yeah, it sounds like it. I mean, I I just can't.
- 22:07The industry is fucking brutal, apparently.
- 22:09Like in the last one, you ever seen a movie back?
- 22:12It's like it's too gay. And then in this one, I get to
- 22:15be prettier. Yeah.
- 22:17Yeah. Like, come on, man.
- 22:19No, I mean, it's wild, some of those stuff you hear.
- 22:22I know, and this is coming from her directly, so you know that
- 22:25it's true. Yeah, it's, it's honestly, it's
- 22:28really wild and it is cut through.
- 22:30You have to have thick skin. Yeah, for sure.
- 22:33So the final thing, despite this being the first video on demand
- 22:37trucky film, it still has some pretty interesting success.
- 22:41It did hit theaters overseas, so in a couple of different
- 22:44countries it's still premiered out there.
- 22:46And also in 2013, it had its own scare zone at Universal Studios
- 22:52Halloween Horror Nights. Yay.
- 22:54Yeah. So it still had a big impact.
- 22:55It's a big deal when you're part of Halloween Horror Nights.
- 22:57Yeah, exactly. Yeah, it's huge.
- 23:00So yeah, this movie, despite being more scaled back, still
- 23:05had a big success. I I OK, Sorry, no.
- 23:09We're done. We're done.
- 23:11Yeah. OK, I I like I like this one in
- 23:14Cult of Chucky a lot. I'm again, this is one of those
- 23:19franchises that I don't think there's a weak entry.
- 23:22Yes, even that one. Whichever one you're thinking.
- 23:25Yeah, whichever one you're thinking of.
- 23:26Yes, even that one. I love the introduction of Nika
- 23:31and especially like how these storylines carry over into the
- 23:36show too. And I think, honestly, I'm glad
- 23:40that they got her involved in a longer lasting character because
- 23:45it seems to have come in handy as Brad has gotten a little bit
- 23:49older, she's been able to do like the flashbacks.
- 23:51For him, she plays him, yeah, in certain scenes, which is, yeah,
- 23:54impressive, honestly. And she nails her fucking dad's
- 23:57accent so well. You know that she has been so
- 23:59many times, yeah. Yeah, she does a good job doing
- 24:03a Brad Deruth. I think that it is.
- 24:06It does get a little bit more of that tension that, you know,
- 24:09maybe has not been there as much in the past couple of movies.
- 24:14Yeah. I like that it's all set in such
- 24:16a short time span. I think it's nice to have a
- 24:19movie that just takes place overnight.
- 24:21Yeah, for. Sure, I feel like lately a lot
- 24:23of movies are like a longer timeline so it's nice to have
- 24:27that happen every once in a while.
- 24:29I like the the internal drama that's going on with like the
- 24:35family and Barb is just such a goddamn bitch.
- 24:39She is. Like the fact that they haven't
- 24:41buried their mother yet and she already had this like, pamphlet
- 24:45ready to go, You know, that it wasn't a spur of the moment.
- 24:47Like, oh, you're not going to be able to take care of yourself in
- 24:49the house. Like she's been planning this
- 24:51for a long. Time Her mom was a youngish,
- 24:54like she wasn't an old person. She was able to handle herself,
- 24:58like, really well. Yeah, it.
- 25:00I'm just wow, so like all of that the drama with the nanny or
- 25:06au pair, which like, I forgot this was Don Mancini for a
- 25:11minute and I forgot how much of an advocate he is for just, you
- 25:15know, showing human beings on all, you know, ends of the the
- 25:20sexuality spectrum and. Specifically, the gay.
- 25:23Yeah. And I was like, oh, man, I
- 25:25forgot that they were, you know, that it was the mom in the
- 25:28affair with the nanny. And then I was like, Oh yeah,
- 25:31it's Don Mancini and he's getting to do what he wants, so
- 25:33of course he's gonna do that. And you know that the dad was
- 25:37trying to get some of that, too. Yeah, it like the whole thing
- 25:40was really fucked up, but I I appreciate that that's the thing
- 25:42that Don is always pushing for in his.
- 25:44Movie. Yeah, I respect equal.
- 25:46Like that that more equal representation because you just
- 25:49don't get it enough. Yeah, and I mean, in this movie,
- 25:52it's not like, oh, they're gay. It's just like, Oh no, they're
- 25:54having an affair, you know what I mean?
- 25:55Like it's just like a thing Like it just says.
- 25:58Also, I appreciate the vegetarian chili.
- 26:00Everybody liked it. Yeah, except.
- 26:02For that bitch Barb. Past the salt man, she sucks.
- 26:10Fuck Barb. Fuck Barb.
- 26:12Fuck the Bruins. Dude her scalloped potatoes are
- 26:15fucked all. Right.
- 26:18What was good for you? I agree with the what what you
- 26:20said there. I think that this movie does a
- 26:22good job of bringing it back to its roots.
- 26:26It's just it's more scaled back, just entirely.
- 26:30Like it's single location, yes, which is new, I think for a
- 26:35Chucky movie I don't think I've ever seen.
- 26:37One is it single location? The priest does drive away at
- 26:40one point. Shut up now, the coffee's making
- 26:45me. Angry.
- 26:48Yeah, no, I'm. I'm a fucking wild card on a
- 26:54single location argument. I can be on your side one second
- 26:57and then next movie, oh boy, I'm over there on the other side.
- 27:00Snap judgement for you and whatever you land on your.
- 27:02It's my gut, man. It's my gut.
- 27:05This movie, single location, absolutely.
- 27:08I don't give a fuck. I don't give a fuck.
- 27:10And we do go other places at the end of the movie, but that's
- 27:14that's different. OK.
- 27:16This movie does a good job tying in the old stuff, too.
- 27:18Eventually it brings in the new and it lives in the new for a
- 27:22long time. And then it finally ties things
- 27:24together. OK.
- 27:25Which I think is cool. OK.
- 27:26I think that's interesting. Yeah.
- 27:30That's not good. Bad.
- 27:33So I like that they tried to tie this in to like his ongoing
- 27:40storyline and everything. I I don't, I feel like it
- 27:46retcon's some of the beginning of the first child's play.
- 27:51Yeah, absolutely does. Like him saying that, you know,
- 27:54Sarah betrayed him and that's how he ended up getting killed.
- 27:58But that's Caputo. Yeah, it was Eddie Caputo.
- 28:00I'll get you for this, I swear. That's why he's going after him
- 28:04in the 1st movie. He's not going after whoever the
- 28:08mom was there. Like I, I wish that like maybe
- 28:12that had been finessed a little bit better.
- 28:13And it does feel like the whole ending is a little bit rushed.
- 28:16Oh, dude, my bad. See, that's one of the things
- 28:19that I had. I thought, I like that they did
- 28:22it, but I don't like how they did it.
- 28:24Yeah, like I'm. Yeah, I like that this is a
- 28:26sequel and we're continuing the story, but they did a not very
- 28:30good job of connecting the pieces especially.
- 28:33Sorry. Go ahead and finish your baths
- 28:35and then I'll try them in with my things.
- 28:37No, that was pretty much it. It just like the ending kind of
- 28:41it undoes a lot of the good work from the beginning.
- 28:44OK, when we get to that reveal, and I feel like this could have
- 28:47been a little bit better done. Also, Charles Lee Ray has never
- 28:52struck me as the like delusional kind of psychotic.
- 28:56He's always been more of the sadistic kind of psychotic.
- 29:00So for him to become obsessed with Sarah and their idea of
- 29:03family felt weird it. Is weird, especially since we
- 29:08know that him and Tiffany have a thing at this point.
- 29:12Yeah, because of the show, they go further back in time than
- 29:15this. Yeah, the whole thing just feels
- 29:17a little like. But that wasn't the thing.
- 29:19At this point, I don't know. I think Don was really trying to
- 29:21figure out like how am I tying this?
- 29:23I'm not bothered by the idea that Chucky would cheat on
- 29:26Tiffany. That seems perfectly in line
- 29:28with their their relationship that I'm cool with.
- 29:31True. But at the same time he like at
- 29:33the end of the last movie, he was talking about how he
- 29:36actually did love his family and love all of them.
- 29:39Yeah, but that was that was, you know, in a moment after he.
- 29:43Yeah, like after he realized he was infamous as a doll.
- 29:46Like this was pre infamy. I yeah, I just it, I that's
- 29:53really, that's really where the movie kind of loses points for
- 29:57me. OK, for me, I think especially
- 30:00in the ending, we have too many endings.
- 30:03It just keeps going. It just keeps and.
- 30:05There's like an end credits scene with Andy, yeah, which
- 30:08actually ends up being important for the next one.
- 30:11Yeah, yeah, for sure. It's just like I see, I thought
- 30:16it was really cool to bring Tiffany back and kind of do a
- 30:18call back to Bride of Chucky with arranging to get the doll
- 30:21from the evidence bag and the cop.
- 30:23And that because we already retconned a couple of things.
- 30:26I was like, are they retconning the beginning of Bride of Chucky
- 30:28now? Like are we in a weird?
- 30:30Oh, where? That's where that.
- 30:31Is. But then she said they never
- 30:33learned. And I was like, OK, yeah, OK.
- 30:35We are firmly. This is the second time she's
- 30:38done this. Tiffany Tiffany has a unique
- 30:39skill of seducing cops to get evidence.
- 30:43Yes, it's just something that she's uniquely good at.
- 30:46Yes, and she's got a very, very sharp nail file.
- 30:49Yeah, she really does. Yeah.
- 30:51But I mean, I just hate how it just kept like ending over and
- 30:55over again and then it was a bunch of shit that just didn't
- 30:58really make sense. Like it goes to the kids house
- 31:01and then he does the possession thing, but then we go to Andy.
- 31:05Like what happened with the kid there?
- 31:06I don't fucking know. It's like it didn't know it
- 31:08didn't pick an ending. Yeah, it felt like they filmed
- 31:11all of those, and then whoever was editing didn't get the memo
- 31:15that those were optional. Yeah, it's like and I.
- 31:17Was just like, what order do they go in?
- 31:18I don't know. There's one.
- 31:20Yeah, there's one, and then we'll do an Increds one for this
- 31:23one, like the one that's probably the most important with
- 31:26Andy. Like, yeah, we'll throw that one
- 31:28at the very, very end of the credits.
- 31:31It's just really strange. Yeah.
- 31:33OK. And then, sorry, we've talked
- 31:35about that a lot. But when we're bad, I just.
- 31:37I don't like the new Chucky design, the way he looks in this
- 31:41movie, even when he removes the scars.
- 31:44I thought that's gonna, like, clear it.
- 31:46He's gonna look like his old self again.
- 31:48No, it's just like that version of Chucky with scars, basically.
- 31:52Yeah, it just. At least his head is smaller.
- 31:55Yeah, as he. Takes off the face.
- 31:56It's just this movie. I think they really felt the
- 32:01smaller scale. Yeah.
- 32:03Because doing a Chucky movie, you kind of need that money to
- 32:06do it well. Yeah.
- 32:07Yeah, OK, ugly stuff. Well one of my uglies was going
- 32:11to be Chucky. OK?
- 32:13Like literally there was like the one scene where they're
- 32:17under the cover and it's raining.
- 32:19Every time it flashed to him I swear his face got worse.
- 32:22And it is a little bit, yeah. It's awful.
- 32:25I think it's probably my least favorite Chucky design.
- 32:29Yeah, it's my least favorite also.
- 32:30I hate it. And then on to like a more
- 32:33socially ugly kind of thing is that it would probably be a
- 32:39bummer to be a an actor who lives with a disability and see
- 32:45a role for a character with a disability.
- 32:48Go to somebody, yeah. Yeah, and that's, I'm sorry, I'm
- 32:51gonna bring up Wicked again. That's the really cool things is
- 32:54that they have Nessa Rose is being played by an actress with
- 32:57a disability. Oh, really?
- 32:59Yeah. I don't know what disability of
- 33:00that is, but. She's paraplegic, I think.
- 33:03Is that what a character is? Interesting.
- 33:05Yes, and then like any scenes that they need to have her walk
- 33:09in, they're doing wires. Interesting.
- 33:12So, and I feel like Nika's character like soft spoilers for
- 33:17future things. I don't think she needs to walk
- 33:19that often, so I think it would have been totally feasible to do
- 33:23a similar kind of thing. Again though, I see the
- 33:26practicality of having Fiona on hand.
- 33:29Yeah, I like that they made her the character that sticks
- 33:33throughout, considering, you know, the legacy with her being
- 33:37the daughter of Brad, but also she's a good actor.
- 33:40Yeah, she is. And I agree with what you're
- 33:43saying though, like it would have been cool.
- 33:45That's, I think that, you know, her being Barb would have been
- 33:48good for that, but Barb doesn't stick around, unfortunately.
- 33:51And I think that they do a really good job of showing some
- 33:54of the practical realities for living with a disability like
- 33:59that. You know how she has to deal
- 34:00with the elevator and it getting stuck when the power goes out.
- 34:04Family members like constantly and finalizing her.
- 34:07That was my thing. Yeah.
- 34:09The way Barb treats her. Yeah, she treats her like dirt
- 34:12and she just tells her her limitations without, you know,
- 34:15her Just saying. And I fucking know myself better
- 34:18than you do. You're trying to tell me that
- 34:20I'm exhausted. Like it's.
- 34:22And it's not even coming from a caring place, it's coming from
- 34:25an I don't want to be responsible for you place and
- 34:27this will ease my guilt. She's just so fucking mean to
- 34:30her the entire movie without any reason.
- 34:34She's the. I keep calling her Fiona.
- 34:37Nika. Nika is just so nice to that
- 34:40character, Barb and her family the entire time she welcomes him
- 34:44into the home. Even though like Barb, like
- 34:47surprised her was a priest from the Catholic Church that her and
- 34:51her mom left years ago. Like yeah, all of that is just
- 34:56fuck Barb. Yeah, Barb fucking sucks and
- 34:59then she also is a cheater. Not you, Barb, we love you.
- 35:03Oh yeah, Barb from Terrifier too, yeah.
- 35:06She's like hanging on the wall looking over at me.
- 35:09I just want her to know I didn't mean her.
- 35:11OK, I'm sorry. Oh, I guess, I guess having like
- 35:20a sexy video call while in the room with, you know, the child
- 35:26you're in charge of caring for. Yeah, that is very strange.
- 35:31Yeah, I don't get that. I like there's so many rooms in
- 35:34this house. Yeah, mine is the delivery
- 35:40company, the SEC USEX. USEX.
- 35:44Yeah, What the fuck kind of name for a delivery company is that?
- 35:49I think it's meant to be US Express.
- 35:51Yeah, I think yeah, but but. I think Don Mancini's 13 year
- 35:54old boy humor came out. When you pointed that out and I
- 35:57looked, I was like wait a minute, that doesn't like usex.
- 36:03So, yeah, OK. What do you rate this?
- 36:06Like I said, I don't feel like there's a bad entry in this
- 36:08franchise, so I think I'm going to give this an 8 an 8 because
- 36:12it's dark. It's got the right tone for most
- 36:15of the movie. I don't want to like discount
- 36:18the previous hour and 15 for the last 15.
- 36:21You know that's. Fair, Yeah, yeah, I really
- 36:24appreciate it for doing for going back to it because I I
- 36:28like the campy parts that we had in the past few ones, but I also
- 36:31really like it when they play it straight too, so.
- 36:34And I like knowing that Don can do both.
- 36:36Yeah, I like that too. Yeah.
- 36:38So I think I'll I'll end around 8 for you.
- 36:42Yeah, we'll make it just an even 8.
- 36:45Thanks for doing easy math for me.
- 36:46Yeah, no problem. All right.
- 36:49Are we ready to roll? We are ready.
- 36:51Let's do this. So we start off with delivery
- 36:55truck driving USX. USX.
- 37:00Sarah, Nika's mom, has comically large scissors.
- 37:05You know the scissors that they have at like ribbon cutting
- 37:07ceremony? Yeah, yes.
- 37:10That's what Sarah's doing her arts and crafts projects with.
- 37:13Man, yeah, it's like those giant pins that you get like the the.
- 37:16The. Fairs, yeah.
- 37:18A pencil like that from the Empire State Building.
- 37:22There was one day in school where I lost my pen and I bought
- 37:24one of those and I was like, I actually have to use this the
- 37:26rest of the day. So for an entire day at school,
- 37:30I did all of my work with this gigantic.
- 37:34It's like as big as my head. It was not fun.
- 37:39So mom was just like painting and cutting stuff, not really
- 37:42doing anything. She's like, *** answer the door,
- 37:45*** *** Nika. Yeah.
- 37:48And like, seems like it was more effort for Nika to have to like
- 37:53again, like not that it's impossible for her to do it, but
- 37:56like you're closer to the fucking door.
- 37:58You're also already downstairs. Yeah, I think she was upstairs.
- 38:01I think she had to go downstairs maybe.
- 38:02It was just like, I feel like you could have answered the door
- 38:04faster, Yeah. Her mom from the school of Barb.
- 38:08Not a nice person. Yeah.
- 38:09So Nika goes to answer the door and I think the USEX driver
- 38:13lives up to his name. Because he is.
- 38:15Really, really laying it down on her.
- 38:17Usex me sex we. Sex, Maybe.
- 38:20Your mom's still here. No.
- 38:21Yes, that's a shame. Yeah, So they're like flirting.
- 38:27And he's like, oh, yeah, I remember you.
- 38:28You were in the psych program. You had that one thesis.
- 38:31And she was like, yeah, I didn't quite finish it.
- 38:34It was on completion anxiety. And then when he leaves, she's
- 38:39like, is he hitting on me? Should I go and get his number?
- 38:41And she goes, Sweetie, you're very pretty, but.
- 38:44He's just being nice. This is so fucking me.
- 38:47No, he was flirting with. Her he like he straight up was
- 38:50like if you if your mom is not here right now, we will have sex
- 38:53right now if. You're yeah, he was like.
- 38:54He was actually sane. He was.
- 38:56He was. Fully ready to go in porno mode.
- 38:58Yeah, he was. And I think Nikka was ready for
- 39:01that too, honestly. I mean, we see in cold to Chucky
- 39:04she's she's down to clown. I don't remember that.
- 39:08Oh you, you will. I'm going to, I'm going to see
- 39:11some clown action. It's a, by the way, a comically
- 39:17large package as usual for this franchise.
- 39:19Yes, yes, it's and it's even larger than it needs to be
- 39:22because it's just a box, a bunch of packing peanuts and then
- 39:25chuckies inside of it. It's.
- 39:27For the mom, it's for Sarah and she is disgusted by it so she
- 39:31just throws it. In the trash, just the right
- 39:33reaction. And he goes like, well, maybe we
- 39:34can give it to Alice and she's like, no.
- 39:37And then she's like, hey, do you want to watch Real Housewives
- 39:39and eat tuna melts later? And he goes like so that night
- 39:45we hear screaming and it wakes sneak up and she goes to
- 39:48investigate and when she gets downstairs she just finds a
- 39:50puddle of blood and her mom is dead.
- 39:53Yep. We cut to opening credits, like
- 39:56kind of floating around Chucky and his mouth is really weird.
- 40:00Everything about him is weird in this movie.
- 40:02I'm just saying the mouth also is pretty weird.
- 40:06Like it's like he's got that that the Tor in his mouth like
- 40:08me, the extra bone. Dude, let me see.
- 40:12Yep. Except his like farther forward,
- 40:15it's connected to the teeth. Yeah, it is very strange.
- 40:17Yeah, yeah, guys, I have an extra bone in my mouth.
- 40:19It's not an extra tooth. It's like literally extra bone
- 40:22on the the hard palate. It's it's weird.
- 40:26Just watch this movie and watch Chucky's mouth.
- 40:28You'll get. It it, it makes it really hard
- 40:30to get X-rays and they always forget until after.
- 40:32And she goes, oh, that probably hurt because of your tore.
- 40:35Right. And I was like, yeah, please put
- 40:37a note in my chart to use the child bite wings.
- 40:42OK, That's never about my mouth. Yeah, so Barbara and priest
- 40:48Frank arrive. Father Frank.
- 40:52Yeah, I I wrote him as Priest Frank.
- 40:53Because I That's weird. I thought it was.
- 40:56I thought it was fun. Did you?
- 40:57I had a great time writing that. Priest Frank.
- 41:01Highlight of the night for me. Wow.
- 41:04I thought we had a lot of other fun watching different movies
- 41:07and playing games and whatnot. That just tells you how much fun
- 41:10I had for Nick. So yeah, they are comforting
- 41:15Nick at first. They're being very nice and
- 41:17supportive. The husband, Ian and daughter
- 41:20Alice come in as well. Yeah, they've all brought their
- 41:23bags. They're all planning on staying.
- 41:25And also Jill, who is the nanny for Alice for whatever reason,
- 41:29is there too. And Nika's just upset.
- 41:32She said that she thought mom was doing fine.
- 41:34She'd been taking her meds. So we're getting a hint that,
- 41:36like, she's got, you know, maybe some mental health struggles
- 41:39that she's been battling. You know, she is offering, like,
- 41:42some church services. And she's like, well, you know,
- 41:45mom and I left the church a while ago.
- 41:47And he's like, you're always welcome back in the church.
- 41:50Barb says that we must pray for her to be forgiven.
- 41:55Sarah that is. And she was like, go to hell.
- 41:58That's so fucking weird, yeah. Oh it's it's completely
- 42:01believable. I've heard some shitty stuff at
- 42:03churches during funerals. Yeah, for sure.
- 42:05Yeah. It's just Barbara.
- 42:08She's just everything about her is just not nice.
- 42:12Yeah. So mean.
- 42:13Yeah. And then she's like, well, I
- 42:15don't really need to be. I really don't need that
- 42:19judgement. And he's Father Priest Frank.
- 42:22Is that what is Priest Frank? Frank.
- 42:24Priest Frank. He says that the church doesn't
- 42:26judge, but pities. And she's like, cool, that's
- 42:29worse. You see how that's worse, right?
- 42:34Yeah, So Alice wants to go to the bathroom.
- 42:36Yeah. So Ian takes her up there.
- 42:38She goes in there and while she's on the toilet she notices
- 42:42that the the the curtain from the shower is.
- 42:46Making some the layout of this bathroom, it's just so much
- 42:50wasted space. It's so weird.
- 42:52Can you imagine how cold it must be in the winter like?
- 42:56I can feel how cold that place would be.
- 42:58Although I get, like, having that space was probably good for
- 43:01Nika, like to be able to maneuver around.
- 43:02She's got, like, her shower chair in there.
- 43:05Yeah. And I appreciate we see
- 43:06different wheelchairs throughout the house.
- 43:08Like she's got one downstairs and one upstairs.
- 43:11She's got her shower one at one point.
- 43:13There will be in the attic and there's a much smaller chair and
- 43:15you can tell that's from when she was younger.
- 43:17Yeah, that's a really nice attention to detail and the set
- 43:20decoration. Yeah, for sure.
- 43:22Yeah. So Alice decides to go
- 43:24investigate the sound, and then she pulls back the curtain and
- 43:26Chucky's there. Yeah, and he reaches out for her
- 43:30and she screams at first, but then when she opens the door,
- 43:32she's really happy. She's like, look, I found him.
- 43:34Barb is telling Nika that she wants to sell the house.
- 43:36It was left to both of them. She's like, you know, with your
- 43:40half of the money, you'll have your living expenses covered for
- 43:43the rest of your life. And you can go to this assisted
- 43:45living center that's so much closer to our house.
- 43:48Nika's like, this is my home. How could you even think of
- 43:51suggesting like you haven't even been here?
- 43:54This is where I live. Yeah, she's like, you don't know
- 43:56what my level of independence is.
- 43:58Like, I may be an agoraphobe, but I'm independent.
- 44:02Yeah. I can take care of myself.
- 44:05So they get into like a whole little spat with that right
- 44:08there. And then Barb says something
- 44:10about like, well, first Barb is upset that Alice has the doll,
- 44:14and she's like, you have too many dolls already, but
- 44:16everybody else is like, let her keep that doll.
- 44:18And then Barbara was fine, well, I guess I better cook dinner for
- 44:21everyone. And he goes like, no, this is my
- 44:23house, I'm hosting you all. I'm going to go make dinner.
- 44:26And Barb's like, really? You're going to make dinner for
- 44:27six people? And Alice goes to seven.
- 44:30Yeah, yeah. And then she's like, Oh yeah, I
- 44:33need a little help. And then she recruits help from
- 44:35Alice and Truckee. Yes, and they they go and they
- 44:38cook together and it's actually really cute.
- 44:39And if you think about it, it's kind of perfect because the way
- 44:43like their island is set up to accommodate her in the chair.
- 44:47It's also like the perfect height for Alice to be able to
- 44:50assist. Yeah, that's true.
- 44:51Yeah. Also Truckee.
- 44:52He's really, really, really watching them dice them veggies.
- 44:54Yeah, yeah, Big on tomatoes, that one.
- 45:00And so they go. And as they're setting up the
- 45:02table, like they put out nice candles and plates and
- 45:05everything, and we see a little plastic can reach up with some
- 45:09rat poison and pour it at random into one of the bowls and it
- 45:12blends in with the cheese. So we don't know.
- 45:15We don't know whose it is. This is a good bit of tension,
- 45:17right? Yeah.
- 45:18Because the following scene, they're all just.
- 45:20Well, she invites the priest over for dinner to stay, too.
- 45:24And then he kind of feels like he has to say.
- 45:26Yeah. Yes, because he's a priest.
- 45:28Yeah, it wouldn't be good for him to say.
- 45:31Wouldn't be priestly of him to say.
- 45:32Yeah, or, or frankly. Frankly, it wouldn't be priestly
- 45:35of him to say. So they're all talking, they're
- 45:38appreciative about the veggie chili, except for Barb.
- 45:40I was like, can you pass the, she says.
- 45:43Can you pass the salt to *** The salt is closer to Barb.
- 45:46It's a double bitch. I love it.
- 45:47Everybody's like, Oh my God, that's amazing.
- 45:49And then everybody's like, I can't even tell this is
- 45:51vegetarian. And then it's dead silent for a
- 45:53few seconds. She's like, can I have the salt,
- 45:56please? So me.
- 45:59Then they start talking about the good guy doll craze of the
- 46:0180s and all of this other like Cabbage Patch Kids and all those
- 46:06other toys that were super popular back then.
- 46:10I think they remember the chaos from the Chucky dolls too, yeah.
- 46:13Wasn't there like some controversy with them or
- 46:15something? And.
- 46:17Then I have beef with Don Mancini because I did not need
- 46:21up close shots of all of these people.
- 46:23Oh my. God yes, fuck that shit, I hated
- 46:27that. Don, you and me are throwing
- 46:29down. Dude don't do not.
- 46:31It's fucking ADR shit ASMR. I don't know, like the the fucking
- 46:36lip smacking. No, I too many mouth sounds.
- 46:40It was I and like I get it. Like, because we're, we know
- 46:43somebody's eating the poison in that moment.
- 46:45Yeah, also, what are you doing? You chomping on that fucking
- 46:47soup? You want piece of my fucking
- 46:49soup bro? The motherfuckers are chomping
- 46:52on soup. It's chili, to be fair, which
- 46:54is. You don't chomp on chili either,
- 46:55but I mean. You have to choose some of it.
- 46:59Some of it, but these motherfuckers are chomping.
- 47:01They made a point of it. He's like be as annoying with
- 47:05your lip smacks as possible. Alice says that her food tastes
- 47:10weird. If Barb goes it's not that bad,
- 47:13just finish it. It's a little bad, but not that
- 47:16bad. Yeah, She's like, I think we may
- 47:17have put too much oregano in it. And then all of a sudden we cut
- 47:21over to Father Frank, priest man, and he starts sweating.
- 47:26Father Frank, priest man. Yeah, he's just gonna continue
- 47:30to change. Every time I mention him, he
- 47:32starts to sweat and then he's like, Oh dear God, I've got to
- 47:35go. I've got a prior arrangement and
- 47:38they're like, father that's not very fatherly.
- 47:39And he's like, I'm so sorry. Forgive me.
- 47:42Yes, please. Forgive me.
- 47:43It would have been funny if we just had like, farces.
- 47:46He's like running away. That's too juvenile.
- 47:50Or is it? I don't know, Don could maybe
- 47:52make that work. I mean he made EU sex thing
- 47:54where that's. True, he's like, but they don't
- 47:55want that. They didn't want that and see
- 47:57the Chucky. Then we cut 2 cops at a crash
- 47:59scene and they're saying that the driver lost control and the
- 48:03one cop is like he's probably drunk as a skunk and the other
- 48:07cop was like, no, he stopped drinking.
- 48:08The first one's like yeah sure that's what he says.
- 48:11And the second one's like, he was my sponsor, which I feel
- 48:15like that goes against the a A rules like you're not supposed
- 48:19to. Say that, does it make a
- 48:21difference if this guy is like dying right here?
- 48:24I still think it's not cool. Like right in front of him he's
- 48:27like, yeah, this guy was totally my sponsor.
- 48:29And he's like, oh what the fuck. Yeah.
- 48:31And they see him. He's over at the car and he's
- 48:34like, trapped in it, and he's bleeding a lot.
- 48:36And then they told the firefighter, like, you got to
- 48:37get him out. And he goes, that's not my call
- 48:39to make. Like his head waiting for the
- 48:42paramedics. His neck is sandwiched in
- 48:44between two pieces of the car. He Yeah.
- 48:48That's definitely one of those that like even if if his Kappa
- 48:51wasn't dictated, you still want to wait for the EMT's to get
- 48:54there because it could be like an internal capitation
- 48:57decapitation where like it's like basically the spine
- 49:01suffering. Yeah, it's a thing.
- 49:04It's it's a real. Thing.
- 49:08Like an internal person in the. World an internal decapitation
- 49:13just sounds like you got your feelings hurt really, really
- 49:18badly. Like you're maybe told that you
- 49:21need to be more likable and more pretty for a role in a movie or
- 49:24something. OK, anyway, his head falls.
- 49:30Off. Yeah.
- 49:31They move the pieces of the vehicle and it just rolls off.
- 49:34This is a pretty brutal death, yeah.
- 49:36So they're watching home videos of the family before Nikka was
- 49:39born. They're not like a picnic.
- 49:41And Sarah's super, super pregnant.
- 49:43Their dad's there. Barbie was a chubby little kid.
- 49:49Yeah, yeah. And we also see young Charles
- 49:53Lee Ray in the background, and Barb says that that's probably
- 49:58one of their neighbors from Chicago.
- 50:00Yeah, they didn't really know, just somebody that was like a
- 50:02friend of the family or something.
- 50:03Yeah, so while all this has been happening, Chucky has gone
- 50:07missing. And Alice is like he's hiding.
- 50:11So Jill goes to help look for him and Nico looks at the
- 50:15package label and she decides she's going to go call the post
- 50:20office to try and figure out where it was sent from.
- 50:22But the storm has knocked out the phone lines because the
- 50:24landline is also not working. Alice tells Jill that Chucky is
- 50:29in hiding and that also he's running around and Jill is so
- 50:34fucking over this. Like she's like, I can't deal
- 50:37with this right now. So she's looking through this
- 50:40whole house. She's looked under every piece
- 50:44of furniture, through all of their luggage, in the shower,
- 50:47and she's in the kitchen and Barb pops up and it feels like
- 50:49Barb is about to scream at her, 'cause that's what Barb does.
- 50:53But instead they. Start making out.
- 50:56Spider keys. Go to town.
- 50:58On each other? Yeah.
- 51:00In a completely open room where anybody could find them.
- 51:02Yeah, I'm surprised nobody they did.
- 51:04Yeah. So back in the living room,
- 51:06Chucky appeared back on the couch next to Ian.
- 51:08Yeah, Who was falling asleep watching the home movies?
- 51:11Yeah. And they pick up the doll and
- 51:14like, they're like, ha, these things are so weird.
- 51:16And then like, they like, what things do you say?
- 51:19And then he says wife is short, ha ha.
- 51:23Ha. And he tells Nikka that he
- 51:26really misses Alice. He got fired from his job and
- 51:29he's been working as a barista and he's been working a lot of
- 51:31hours to, you know, try and make ends meet.
- 51:35And so when he's not working, he's exhausted and.
- 51:37He found out how much they paid you 400 a week.
- 51:41He's like, I don't make that much a week so.
- 51:44Yeah, yeah. And he's paying part of that.
- 51:47Yeah. So that fucking sucks.
- 51:49Yeah, so Alice or Nikka decides to bring Chucky upstairs, but
- 51:54while she's in the elevator, the power goes out.
- 51:56And this is kind of a tense moment.
- 51:59So she's, like, hitting the, like, emergency signal to try
- 52:02and get somebody's attention. Barb, here's it in the kitchen.
- 52:06She's, like, I told you, she's helpless.
- 52:08Like, I can't. Like, what am I supposed to do
- 52:10with her? And she was like, you know, I
- 52:12was thinking we could get by without the money.
- 52:14Like, we don't need to sell this house.
- 52:16This is her home. Yeah.
- 52:18That endeared me to Jill. Yeah, she's seen.
- 52:21Well, she was good there, but she's bad in so many other ways.
- 52:25She's bad in a lot of other ways, but the.
- 52:27Home wrecking type of way. Yeah.
- 52:30So yeah, the power right before it comes on, she turns Chucky
- 52:34around real quick. And then Chucky, just like does
- 52:36like a psychotic cackle. Yeah.
- 52:41Very unsettling. As he does that, the power
- 52:43shoots back on and then the elevator goes up to the top 4.
- 52:45And when they get up there, she gives Chucky to Alice or yeah,
- 52:49to Alice. And he does like an exorcist
- 52:51head turn. And house is like, I didn't know
- 52:52you could do that. Yeah.
- 52:54So this is where Barbara's like or, or Nigga's like, OK, don't
- 52:57worry, I'll go in there and read the bedtime story to Alice like
- 53:01I was going to. And Barbara's like, no, really,
- 53:04you don't have to do that. You've overexerted yourself
- 53:07today. You really need to go and rest.
- 53:09And she's like, the doctor said that your heart problem could
- 53:13come back if anything stresses you out.
- 53:15And you're already under a lot of stress.
- 53:17And this feels like the first genuine moment where she seems
- 53:19like she might be partially caring about some of this is
- 53:22just a power trip, but I do see some of the like.
- 53:26I think she's using logic to mask her not so kind intentions.
- 53:34Yeah. It's like really trying to
- 53:36manipulate her type of thing. And then Alice points out that
- 53:40Nika has a cut on her leg and it's a pretty decent cut, but
- 53:43like a stab. Yeah.
- 53:44Yeah, she didn't feel it. Yeah, and it's bleeding.
- 53:48So she's like, oh, you must have done that while you were working
- 53:50on the food in the kitchen, which.
- 53:52How does that track? Yeah, it's a fresh cut.
- 53:54How does that track blood dripping down the way it would?
- 53:56Have coagulated at some point. Yeah.
- 53:59So Alice tells Barb everything that Chucky said to her.
- 54:03Like, life's a bitch, then you die.
- 54:07And of course, Barb, in the grand tradition of these movies,
- 54:11doesn't believe her. Nika calls to get manages to get
- 54:16the phone to go through, and she calls to figure out where the
- 54:19package came from and the line's breaking out.
- 54:21But it sounded like they said evidence depository.
- 54:25Then we get to Alice under the sheet as it's storming and
- 54:29Chucky's face is just a nightmare.
- 54:31It's. Yeah, this is my sleep for
- 54:33Alice's demon. Yeah, so, she said last night.
- 54:37It's terrifying. It's awful and he and Alice is
- 54:42like Tracky, I'm scared. And he goes.
- 54:43You should be fucking scared. Effing scared.
- 54:47Effing scared. You should be effing scared.
- 54:49I would love to just see that cut of this.
- 54:52I know. Yeah.
- 54:54So Nikki goes to check on Alice and she sees them in the bed and
- 54:58it just looks like they're asleep.
- 54:59Yeah. And Jill walks up and they chat
- 55:02a little bit and you know, they're talking about how happy
- 55:05Chucky made her and Jill was like, anything that can make her
- 55:07that happy is fine by me. Like, she's been so sad lately
- 55:10and that makes Sneaker really sad.
- 55:12Yeah, poor kid. So Jill goes to bed in the same
- 55:17room as Jill or not as Alice. Jill goes to bed in the same
- 55:21room as herself. Yeah, that makes sense.
- 55:22I I got it. I'm with you.
- 55:24Yeah, and then she sets up a little like Internet call with
- 55:29Barbara. Is in bed next to you and the
- 55:32whole thing just makes zero sense.
- 55:34It's like they're begging to be caught.
- 55:35They really are. Yeah, yeah.
- 55:37It's it's so fucking weird. So they're doing like a little
- 55:40striptease thing with each other, and Barb notices that
- 55:44Chucky is moving in the background.
- 55:46I love this because she tries to, like, signal to her because
- 55:48she thinks it's Alice. Yeah.
- 55:50And she's, like trying to signal to her.
- 55:51And she's like, pointing and Jill, like, doesn't know what's
- 55:55going on, but she assumes it's more of a sexy thing.
- 55:58And she's like, yeah, he points back.
- 56:00Yeah, and she's like, not figuring it out.
- 56:04Meanwhile, you see Chucky's walking around the room.
- 56:06He's got a bucket next to her that's full of water from the
- 56:09leak and. Her outlet is on the floor
- 56:14because it's an older house and he knocks over the bucket right
- 56:17as she looks over and sees him and she is electrocuted.
- 56:20And this is pretty gruesome because like we see the burn
- 56:22marks up her body, like in her eye and everything.
- 56:26Yeah, and then it kills the power in the house.
- 56:28Yeah, before that happens, while all of this is going on, Nika is
- 56:32downstairs searching up like Chucky doll evidence on Internet
- 56:38search. Search.
- 56:41We see chips, we see chips. And I love this because when the
- 56:45power starts surging, when he kicks over the bucket like the
- 56:47lights are flickering, nobody in the house wonders what's.
- 56:50Going on, not even her, she's like, oh, this is normal.
- 56:53Maybe that is normal in this house.
- 56:54I don't know. She's like, she's like that
- 56:57house in the beginning of hot frosty.
- 56:59She's. Just lazy, yeah.
- 57:01She's just like, yeah, this is how this shit works.
- 57:02Just shit don't work. Yeah, sometimes do work.
- 57:05I don't know. It's in the.
- 57:06The people that fix this are dead.
- 57:09Yeah, that's just what it is. So Barb and Ian start arguing
- 57:16about Jill because she Barb gets up and she says she's going to
- 57:18go check on Alice. And he goes Alice or Jill.
- 57:23And she's like, what do you mean?
- 57:25And he's like, I know about the two of you and I'm going to make
- 57:28sure that I get to keep my daughter.
- 57:30And she goes, you can't prove anything, he goes.
- 57:31Unless, you know, I show them the evidence from the nanny Cam
- 57:34inside the doll. Yeah, and she gets mad defensive
- 57:39to the point where she starts attacking him.
- 57:40She's like you fucking. What's she call him again?
- 57:44Latte serving loser. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 57:49She just storms out. And but he puts in earplugs and
- 57:53he just. Goes like just whatever, don't
- 57:54give a fuck. Yeah, You know what?
- 57:56Yeah. She looks for Alice and then
- 57:58says she finds the Chucky doll. Nika calls for Barb and tries to
- 58:02explain. She was like, hey, you need to
- 58:05stay away from the doll. There's something in it.
- 58:06She goes, you know, and she was like, wait, well, yeah, now I
- 58:09do. And she's like, how long have
- 58:11you known? She goes, that doesn't matter.
- 58:13Like I'm trying to explain, like you need to just you need to get
- 58:16Alice and we need to get rid of the doll.
- 58:19Yeah, she's like, I can't believe my own sister would be
- 58:21out against me. Like, really, Barb, you don't
- 58:23think your own sister would maybe hate you with the way that
- 58:26she's been behaving, even though that's not even what's happening
- 58:28right now? Not family.
- 58:30Yeah. OK.
- 58:31Vin Diesel also, while that's been happening, there was a shot
- 58:35of the cop just driving and then he got a radio thing saying,
- 58:38yeah, they say that he was coming from, I don't know their
- 58:43last name, but Nika. The Pierces.
- 58:45The Pierces, Yeah. And so maybe go over there and
- 58:48ask them to see if they know anything about what could have
- 58:50caused us. Yes, because the power is out
- 58:54again, the lift isn't working, so Nika climbs up the stairs and
- 58:57again, this is another shot where they have to like be very
- 59:00careful about how they do it because it's almost impossible
- 59:03for a, an able bodied person to not, yeah, use their legs
- 59:08despite, you know, consciously trying not.
- 59:11To I you pointing that out during See No Evil 2 made me
- 59:15aware of it this time around, so I was really.
- 59:17Paying attention. To that this time, yeah.
- 59:21OK. Yeah, we didn't talk about that
- 59:22on the show. No.
- 59:23OK, Yeah. That was the thing that
- 59:25happened. Yeah, it's over.
- 59:28All right. So she makes up to the top.
- 59:30Barb is looking for Alice in the attic, and she finds Chucky and
- 59:34she finds there's. A really cool shot where she
- 59:37picks him up and she feels something in his chest and it's
- 59:39a knife. Yeah.
- 59:40And the way they do the reflection where it's like half
- 59:43like the middle part of her face is like overlaid on the middle
- 59:46part of his from the reflection in the.
- 59:48Yeah. That was a good job, Don.
- 59:50That was an amazing shot. That was a good job.
- 59:52Makes up for the mouths, almost. Almost, almost makes up for the
- 59:56mouth. Yeah, it was very cool.
- 59:58So that's when Barb notices that Chucky's face is kind of weird.
- 1:00:03He's a little moisturizer. Yeah, he.
- 1:00:06Needs he needs the hydrate. Yeah, it's weird because all of
- 1:00:09the time it's look normal, but suddenly now it's like, oh,
- 1:00:12there's like caked up shit on here.
- 1:00:13Yeah. So she starts to peel it off.
- 1:00:15She she does what I call a full House of wax.
- 1:00:19Yeah, Oh my God, this was exactly like House of Wax.
- 1:00:21He is doing J pad dirty. Yeah, except it would have been
- 1:00:25interesting if like this is hurting Chucky.
- 1:00:27But no, he's just he's, he's not having an.
- 1:00:30Expression. Somebody to have this moment.
- 1:00:32That's true. He did it because I was like, I
- 1:00:34just want to like, I want people to be shocked.
- 1:00:36Yes, Yeah. And it's got all of the scars
- 1:00:39and everything under there. I'm glad that they brought that
- 1:00:41look back. I see.
- 1:00:43I had always forgotten that they bring that back in this movie.
- 1:00:45I would have forgotten if Shudder hadn't made that the.
- 1:00:48Fucking yeah. Yeah, it's it was right there,
- 1:00:52Yeah. Which, shame on you, Shudder.
- 1:00:54I know it's an 11 year old movie, but some people may not
- 1:00:57have seen that. That's A twist.
- 1:00:59Yeah, and honestly, it's one that I forgot about.
- 1:01:02Yeah, so. I had forgot about.
- 1:01:04I would have. Spent so much in the movie being
- 1:01:05like why is his head so weird and then this would have been
- 1:01:08this would have blown my mind. Yeah, this entire time we've
- 1:01:11been covering this franchise, I've been saying Ride of Truckee
- 1:01:13and see the Truckee. I love the design of Truckee and
- 1:01:15that. Yeah, I forgot.
- 1:01:17Even though I it's still kind of a weaker version of it this time
- 1:01:20around, it doesn't look like as good as it's a.
- 1:01:23Little less juicy. It's just, it's just something
- 1:01:27off about it. I don't know what it is.
- 1:01:31Yeah, it's weird to point my finger on.
- 1:01:34So yeah, we now have Chucky in his full scarred up glory and.
- 1:01:39He says you've got your mother's eyes too close together, and
- 1:01:44then he pops one of them out and sends it.
- 1:01:46Nika gets to the bottom of the attic stairs and we get a
- 1:01:49changeling moment. Yeah, except it's the eyeball.
- 1:01:53Just bounces. Down, yeah.
- 1:01:55And then you see him just slowly start to walk down the stairs.
- 1:01:59Well, he knocks Barb down first. Oh, yes, he does.
- 1:02:01Yeah, Coffin Flop and then Chucky approaches Nika manages
- 1:02:07to get to a chair and she is looking around for Alice, but
- 1:02:10instead she finds Jill's body. Wakes up Ian who goes looking
- 1:02:15around as well. He when he finds Jill's Barbie.
- 1:02:21Barb. Yeah, he finds Barb and Jill, so
- 1:02:24he carries Nika downstairs, wheels her to the garage, and
- 1:02:27then he was like, I'm going to go back and look for Alice.
- 1:02:30And he locks her in the garage, which is really unfortunate
- 1:02:33because Chucky's in the garage. So he starts the car and
- 1:02:36basically he's trying to kill her with carbon monoxide
- 1:02:38poisoning. Yeah, he can't.
- 1:02:40Drive a lot. Midsummer or hot tub Time
- 1:02:44machine? Yeah, pick your flavor of
- 1:02:47poisoning. He's he's stationary.
- 1:02:49He doesn't have Glen or Glenda here with.
- 1:02:50Them to do this and Nika grabs a hatchet, swings it at the
- 1:02:56window, tries to hit Chucky, but he jumps over to the passenger
- 1:02:59side of his best friend's ride, trying to holler at her and
- 1:03:02instead he swallows the keys. And that's when Ian comes in.
- 1:03:07Doesn't believe her about the doll and thinks that maybe she
- 1:03:13did something with Alice. And this, in the moment, has
- 1:03:16like, piqued her stress. And she's like, you need to give
- 1:03:19me the shot. You need to give me the shot.
- 1:03:22And he doesn't do it. And she passes out.
- 1:03:25So he goes to check the camera that he planted on the doll.
- 1:03:29As she is taped up, she comes too.
- 1:03:30Yeah, she's taped up to her chair.
- 1:03:33And then he's like, we're going to figure out where Alice is by
- 1:03:36watching this video. And we just see various moments
- 1:03:40throughout the night from check POV.
- 1:03:42But you know what, I think that that was interesting that they
- 1:03:44like made the Chucky vision like a whole other thing, whereas
- 1:03:48actually like the camera the entire time.
- 1:03:50Yeah. And I kind of appreciate that
- 1:03:53because our Chucky vision was a little bit grander than normal.
- 1:03:56Yeah, it was, yeah. A little bit more cinematic.
- 1:03:59Yeah, for sure. So like we see him just, I was
- 1:04:03confused at first until you really cleared it up for me, but
- 1:04:06I thought that he was just full on okay with this dog getting up
- 1:04:09and running around the house. And then you pointed out, no, he
- 1:04:11thinks that it's just Alice carrying him around.
- 1:04:14Everywhere until he sees Alice in the closet and the camera is
- 1:04:19like facing it and then we hear Chucky's voice telling him to.
- 1:04:22Stay hit. And she's like, do I really have
- 1:04:24to hide here? And he's like shut the fuck up,
- 1:04:26shut the F up. Excuse me?
- 1:04:28And as this is happening, we said shoot live footage and
- 1:04:32Chucky wanders in and he's right behind Nika, pushes her to knock
- 1:04:37Ian down and then he takes the hatchet, kills him, runs at
- 1:04:43Nika, hits her leg but her but the IT gets stuck in the bone
- 1:04:48and of course she doesn't feel this.
- 1:04:50I need to give some credit to that Ian kill.
- 1:04:52He fucking chops his chin off. His jaw is just gone.
- 1:04:57Resting now. Yeah, he kind of does a resting
- 1:04:59now. It's a really, they actually had
- 1:05:01good effects right there. I was very impressed.
- 1:05:04She manages to get the hatchet out of her leg and then she lobs
- 1:05:08his head off so she is tying a tourniquet to her leg and in the
- 1:05:14background we see Chucky reassembling himself.
- 1:05:15He. Goes for Michael Myers.
- 1:05:17And then he pushes Nika over the banister.
- 1:05:21And then he comes downstairs and reveals he's an old friend of
- 1:05:24the family. He saw how happy they were and
- 1:05:29decided fuck that, killed the dad and kidnapped the mom.
- 1:05:33And he kept bringing her, like, dozens of daisies, which is why
- 1:05:36she kept painting the daisies. And he's like, all right, I'm
- 1:05:42gonna go pick up Barbie so we can have some family time.
- 1:05:45And Sarah's like trying to stall him because she has found a way
- 1:05:50to contact the police, basically.
- 1:05:52Yeah, she's like tied up, down. There, Yeah.
- 1:05:53And she was like, no, stay with me.
- 1:05:55I I want you to myself. And he's like, well, that's
- 1:05:58pretty fucking selfish of you. Yeah, for real.
- 1:06:02Yeah, so he he hears the cops outside and he's like, Oh my
- 1:06:07God, did you fucking set me up? And then he stabs her belly.
- 1:06:11And then this is when he ran to the toy store.
- 1:06:13But yeah, the stabbing of the belly is what paralyzed Nika.
- 1:06:16Yep. He mentions the other families
- 1:06:18that he's seen throughout the years.
- 1:06:20He's like, but you know, had to come back to the Pierces.
- 1:06:24And she's like, did you kill Andy then?
- 1:06:26And he's like, in a way I. Killed his childhood, is what he
- 1:06:31says. And she's like, completion
- 1:06:34anxiety. He's like, I'm gonna kill you
- 1:06:37slow. And she's like, yeah, 25 years
- 1:06:39in the making, slowest murder ever.
- 1:06:41I love their banter here in this moment when she has decided,
- 1:06:44fuck it, I'm done. Yeah, she manages to get over to
- 1:06:49the lift gate, but the power goes out, so she's holding the
- 1:06:52doors closed and he's like stabbing at her.
- 1:06:55And then she finally, like she gets a hold of the knife.
- 1:06:57Just grabs it, grabs the blade by the hand and Yanks it out.
- 1:07:01Opens up the door and she's like come on, let's do this, Copper
- 1:07:04eyes, you're screaming. Comes in and sees a bloody Nika
- 1:07:10in the lift with a bloody knife and he looks up and he sees
- 1:07:13Barb's body. Uh oh, this won't be good.
- 1:07:17And we immediately learn this is not good.
- 1:07:20As we hear the judge saying, the defendant has been declared
- 1:07:23legally incompetent to stand trial and has been remanded to a
- 1:07:26facility for the criminally insane.
- 1:07:28That right there, I think, is the recurring thing of this
- 1:07:32series, that he's reusing the idea of the mom from the first
- 1:07:35one. Yeah.
- 1:07:36Which was what was supposed to happen with her, or what did
- 1:07:38happen didn't. It Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 1:07:40That's why Andy was in foster care.
- 1:07:42Yeah, exactly. Military school.
- 1:07:45And she's like, talking shit to him while he's on the the
- 1:07:48evidence table. Yeah.
- 1:07:49I'm still alive. Yeah.
- 1:07:51So then we cut to cop taking the evidence bag.
- 1:07:56The evidence bag was Truckee to the car.
- 1:07:58And he calls to tell Tiffany he's on the way, that she better
- 1:08:02have his money, and he's killed by Tiffany in the backseat with
- 1:08:05her nail file. And she says they never learn.
- 1:08:09And then it ends and then no. And then it inserts another
- 1:08:13ending right here. She's at U sex and so she wants
- 1:08:18to send this overnight high priority and they're like, do
- 1:08:22you need package insurance? And she's like no.
- 1:08:26And she was like, do you have any live animals in there?
- 1:08:29And she's like just put other and then it.
- 1:08:34Comes back. The package has been overnighted
- 1:08:36to Alice's grandma's house. Alison arrives home from school
- 1:08:40and she finds Chucky in the kitchen.
- 1:08:43And she says, where's my grandma?
- 1:08:44And he goes, she's in the cellar just chilling.
- 1:08:48Now we're going to play a game called Hide the Soul.
- 1:08:53And then he seems to successfully perform the chant
- 1:08:57because it just pans over throughout the rest of the house
- 1:09:00while he's doing it. And then the grandma's body pops
- 1:09:02up in a bag on your head and she screams.
- 1:09:05And then it ends and. Then we get credits and then
- 1:09:09Andy. Yes, he gets a package.
- 1:09:13He opens it up and it is Chucky, but by the time Chucky's
- 1:09:18out-of-the-box he looks over to Andy and Andy's already got a
- 1:09:21shotgun pointed right at him and blows him.
- 1:09:24Yep. Boom.
- 1:09:24Indeed he does. Yeah, And then it ends.
- 1:09:28Then it ends for real that time. Until the next time.
- 1:09:32Until the next time, all right, man.
- 1:09:35I love this movie, even with the silly multiple endings.
- 1:09:38We just made that fun for ourselves.
- 1:09:41We did, but I mean for like a straight up viewing experience.
- 1:09:43I hate it. It really does shift the tone
- 1:09:46and the pacing dramatically. If you in the movie that many
- 1:09:49times in a row, it kind of agitates me.
- 1:09:51I'm like, just fucking do it. Just commit to one of these
- 1:09:54please. I think it would have been more
- 1:09:55fun to do this at the beginning of Cult of Chucky.
- 1:09:58I agree. Because then we could have had
- 1:10:00that opening that feels very similar to like we just end with
- 1:10:03the trial, right? And then we have an opening that
- 1:10:05feels similar to the beginning bride of Chucky with Tiffany
- 1:10:09attacking the cop. See I think it would have been
- 1:10:12cool to have like the post credit scene be Tiffany getting
- 1:10:15the cop and then mailing off the package.
- 1:10:17OK, it opens up the next movie with the arriving at Andy's
- 1:10:20place. OK.
- 1:10:23That's how I would do it at least.
- 1:10:25Yeah. So I guess that would be our
- 1:10:27change. Yeah, that mean for sure.
- 1:10:29That's, I mean that and then I y'all probably couldn't help it,
- 1:10:34but that Chucky design just was not for me.
- 1:10:37It was just not good, man. I know you're better than this,
- 1:10:41Tony Gardner. Tony, come on, Anthony.
- 1:10:44Anthony. I'm still going to give it an 8
- 1:10:47though. OK, yeah, I'll keep mine at it.
- 1:10:54It's still a really good child's.
- 1:10:55It is like Chucky movie. It's solid.
- 1:10:57I it's I know see the Chucky. I know you love it.
- 1:11:02I know it's everybody's sweet favorite.
- 1:11:05It's at the bottom for me, but it's still a good one.
- 1:11:08Like we've established, I still enjoy it, but this is a bump up
- 1:11:11to where I like the series. Yeah.
- 1:11:14I like the camp. This movie, this one has a
- 1:11:16little bit of camp to it, too. Yeah, just a tad.
- 1:11:19Snitch, A snitch. We get more campy.
- 1:11:22Wait. I think we strike that better
- 1:11:23balance once we hit the TV show. I definitely think that the TV
- 1:11:27show has a good balance of horror and campiness, but I also
- 1:11:34think that even Cult of Chucky gets a little bit of a balance
- 1:11:38of that. It's been so long since we've
- 1:11:40seen that one that I kind of forget.
- 1:11:41I forgot about the clown action that goes on in that.
- 1:11:43So if there's some clowning going on, there's just probably
- 1:11:46some camp. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:11:48By clowning, I mean fucking right.
- 1:11:54OK, Talia. OK, she was sleepy.
- 1:12:00She was. She had to go out at 20 minutes
- 1:12:01and 34 seconds. I think that she prefers the
- 1:12:08campier movies. I we've already established that
- 1:12:12she's terrified of Chucky, so I don't think she liked the
- 1:12:15scarier version of him. Do you think that this version,
- 1:12:18the way he looked, was more terrifying or less terrifying
- 1:12:21more? Really.
- 1:12:22Yes, OK. So I think Tally is going to
- 1:12:26give this a 2 out of 10. Two out of 10.
- 1:12:28Not thinner, not thinner. Yeah, she just hates the good
- 1:12:32guy dolls. She hates Chucky, really does.
- 1:12:34It's. So funny.
- 1:12:36Who is Zoe's ultimate warrior? She was very into this movie.
- 1:12:40She was. She woke up four of.
- 1:12:42This she woke up four of this movie.
- 1:12:43She kept insisting that we give her lap space.
- 1:12:46She poor thing, she has learned about laps and she's getting
- 1:12:50bolder about laps. But she doesn't understand that
- 1:12:52when laps are occupied that that means they're occupied.
- 1:12:56So it should she like will just kind of stand on us and just
- 1:12:58like tap us. Yeah, move your stuff.
- 1:13:01I'm doing lap right now. Yeah, she's so.
- 1:13:05She's an interesting little cat sometimes, but for her ultimate
- 1:13:10warrior, that's tough. What did?
- 1:13:18Who would it be? She's been kind of mean lately.
- 1:13:23I think she would maybe see Barbara.
- 1:13:26She has, she's been kind of a bully.
- 1:13:28She really has to her sisters to.
- 1:13:30Her sisters, she's just picking fights for no God damn reason.
- 1:13:34She gets in the entire space in the middle of the night and just
- 1:13:36like, slaps her sometimes. Like Zoe.
- 1:13:38What the We're not. Playing right now and also not
- 1:13:40everyone wants to play like that.
- 1:13:41OK, yeah, so is Barb. I'll say it to your face too.
- 1:13:48Yeah, you're being a total Barb. We're gonna start saying that
- 1:13:50too. Are you?
- 1:13:51Not the good Mashed potato Barb. No, her barb's scalloped
- 1:13:56potatoes are fucked. OK.
- 1:14:03Who did you relate? To good question.
- 1:14:07I I don't know, man, this is it's an interesting group of
- 1:14:14people here. I'd be like that cop would be
- 1:14:16like this guy was totally wasted if he is gonna wreck like this.
- 1:14:21And The thing is there was no other cars involved.
- 1:14:24He just. Fucked there was one other car.
- 1:14:26Oh, he killed another person? Yeah.
- 1:14:28Oh, fuck, I didn't realize that. Damn.
- 1:14:30Yeah, I would definitely say that that was a drunk person.
- 1:14:35I think I relate to Sarah because I who like to do art and
- 1:14:45watch trashy reality. TV with comically large
- 1:14:49utensils. Comically large utensils.
- 1:14:52This is true. This is accurate.
- 1:14:55OK, we got an interesting group right there.
- 1:14:58Yes, we do. We don't do sequels.
- 1:15:01No, no for these no So tagline. Tagline Well, the bar is on the
- 1:15:07floor, so. Yes, that is true.
- 1:15:10Yeah, Lee Ray gets some leeway. What leeway did he get?
- 1:15:18Some. No.
- 1:15:29Death delivered directly to your front door.
- 1:15:36That's. Not bad.
- 1:15:36That's not bad. Deliveries these days are
- 1:15:40killer. He's the total package.
- 1:15:46Totally killer package. Why was mine not good enough as
- 1:15:51it was? You owed it.
- 1:15:53Was good. I was trying to punch up, did I
- 1:15:57not? Do I belong on the board that
- 1:16:00did the original? Package is a phrase the killer.
- 1:16:03Package is not. OK, total effing package.
- 1:16:09It's. Not like there we go.
- 1:16:13He's the total effing package. We're doing it.
- 1:16:16OK. Great, I like how you did the
- 1:16:21Mario power block punch up. I mean, that's the punch up.
- 1:16:27OK, reviews. Reviews all right.
- 1:16:31Reviews. Reviews.
- 1:16:33Reviews OK so obviously you went negative because I knew that we
- 1:16:41both enjoyed this movie yeah it's going to be the case with
- 1:16:43pretty much all of these yeah Chucky movies, y'all so.
- 1:16:46Y'all y'all, y'all all. Right y'all, simmer down.
- 1:16:51Shoot my knee. Shit the fuck up.
- 1:16:56I'm sorry, it's a coffee. OK, the rest of the night's
- 1:17:08gonna be really weird. Yes, it is all right.
- 1:17:12Why not? It's in terrible.
- 1:17:14Well, enjoy the original Chucky films.
- 1:17:16I found this one to be in poor taste.
- 1:17:18The whole thing is just terrible.
- 1:17:20Firstly, it does not tie into any of the original films at
- 1:17:24all. It's just like they are just
- 1:17:25trying to remake the films. Did you watch the ending?
- 1:17:28Yeah. Who's saying that's not true
- 1:17:31too? Many endings.
- 1:17:32They actually saw their first ending like done.
- 1:17:35No, because that would have been the first ending.
- 1:17:38The first ending would have been Nika leading the court.
- 1:17:40Yeah, like Dun Dun Dun Dun. Just like Get Me Out of here.
- 1:17:45I hate this movie. Didn't even.
- 1:17:46Like they saw a gentle fade to blind and they were like clearly
- 1:17:49that's the end of the movie. Secondly, the doll doesn't even
- 1:17:53look anything like Chucky, as you can see from the film's
- 1:17:56posters. And thirdly, Chucky never looked
- 1:17:59cute. This film has made Chucky look
- 1:18:02cute. What Hot Jake?
- 1:18:06Hot Jake. In the original films, he never
- 1:18:09looked cute. He looked a bit odd, but not
- 1:18:11cute. I gave this A1 star rating and
- 1:18:13that was being generous. I found this particular version
- 1:18:16of Chucky to be absolutely dreadful.
- 1:18:19Even the bride of Chucky, which people count as the worst of the
- 1:18:21franchise? What the fuck was better than
- 1:18:24this film? At least The Bride of Chucky
- 1:18:27actually fit into the story along with The Seed of Chucky.
- 1:18:30Fair enough. That one was a bit weird.
- 1:18:32Even Child's Plays, even Child's Play were better films than this
- 1:18:36even though they got a bit far fetched.
- 1:18:38I mean, there are only so many times your soul can die before
- 1:18:42it actually just poof you are now permanently dead.
- 1:18:44Are you ranting now? Kindly, respectfully, it was
- 1:18:47this review written by AI. This is 2014, so probably not
- 1:18:52okay. This was just a dreadful film.
- 1:18:55My partner and I never even watched the end of it.
- 1:18:58See, you didn't even see the end of it.
- 1:19:00You can't. You can't.
- 1:19:02Where did you leave off? That's how bad it is.
- 1:19:06The least they could have done with this film is made a tie in
- 1:19:09somehow. You should have watched the end
- 1:19:11of it or still had Chucky looking like Chucky.
- 1:19:15I just absolutely hated. This person definitely tuned out
- 1:19:18before the face. Peel before that.
- 1:19:20They definitely did, Yeah. I just absolutely hated this
- 1:19:23film. I don't think they should even
- 1:19:25attempt to make another. I want this read like the
- 1:19:29dramatic reading of. That's kind of what I was.
- 1:19:30Doing at the end of that you may may touch your hand for stupid
- 1:19:34reasons. Yeah, boy.
- 1:19:38So yeah, you know, I'm glad that I chose that one.
- 1:19:41I kind of read the first part of it thinking that they watched.
- 1:19:43Yeah, no, this guy has measured takes.
- 1:19:45He definitely watched the whole movie.
- 1:19:47And we'll explain. Why he thinks it's?
- 1:19:49Not good, no. This is some of the weirdest
- 1:19:52fucking takes I've heard, but you know what?
- 1:19:53I respect it. I don't respect not finishing
- 1:19:57the movie though. I.
- 1:19:57Don't respect it. I don't think you should be
- 1:19:59allowed to write a review for a movie you didn't finish.
- 1:20:02That is so fair. Oh my God, that's so funny, man.
- 1:20:05Like and you can't make complaints like it has no tie
- 1:20:07in. If you didn't finish it, how do
- 1:20:09you know it doesn't have tie in? Yeah, how do you know that
- 1:20:15fucker? Sorry, it's the coffee.
- 1:20:18Yeah, it's the coffee. I'm sorry, everybody.
- 1:20:21Maybe this person had the coffee when they were.
- 1:20:23Watching this movie, by the way, we are drinking peppermint
- 1:20:27mocha. So if you don't wanna be
- 1:20:30aggressive like us, or if you do, yeah.
- 1:20:33That's a secret, Yeah. OK, so that was that review.
- 1:20:37So let's go over to just some listener reviews.
- 1:20:41By the way, these are all going to be from Facebook, Instagram,
- 1:20:44Threads and Blue Sky now. Yeah, rarely.
- 1:20:47We don't get many on Facebook. I think we maybe had one or two.
- 1:20:50Yeah, but we do have some people on Facebook.
- 1:20:52So just cuz we've had a couple of people ask where the best
- 1:20:55place to give reviews now since we're not really on.
- 1:20:58Twitter anymore? I haven't checked Twitter in
- 1:21:00days so it's been forever. I check it when I get Adm on
- 1:21:04there. OK, and that's really the only
- 1:21:07time I check it. There was one thing on there
- 1:21:09that I didn't see the other day. Joe sent us a message about one
- 1:21:15of the actors, some actor from a movie, the guy from the
- 1:21:18Strangers Pray at night that plays the backhat dude.
- 1:21:21Yeah, Damien, whatever. He was like, OK, ask him about
- 1:21:24Boisky. He's like, is it pronounced
- 1:21:25Blusky? And then Joe's like, Boisky's
- 1:21:27catching on. Yes.
- 1:21:30So yeah, if we, if you all wanna call it, you know, we're trying
- 1:21:33to call it its correct name. That way people know exactly
- 1:21:35where to go. Yeah, to find this right now.
- 1:21:37I'll go back to being gently teasing it once you know.
- 1:21:41Once it's established for us here for a little bit, yes.
- 1:21:44So OK, over on Instagram, we have Cubesafes.
- 1:21:47Who says I enjoyed the twist in this one.
- 1:21:49The kills are great. Great refresh to the series.
- 1:21:52Yeah, Yeah, I the twist was good.
- 1:21:54I do. I mean, even though it was
- 1:21:55ruined for us again this time, I still enjoy the fact that it was
- 1:22:00there. The killers were pretty
- 1:22:02inventive. I mean, this movie, like, it's a
- 1:22:05great return to form. Yeah, I really appreciated.
- 1:22:08Doing that, and I like the continuity of Tiffany's words
- 1:22:11ringing in his head like he can't just rely on the knife all
- 1:22:14the time. Marvin Stewart said that's true.
- 1:22:16He like, barely uses a knife in this movie.
- 1:22:18Yeah. Then we have Michael E Howard
- 1:22:21who says because Curse of Chucky is a top notch return to form
- 1:22:24this next chapter. Curse Cole and TV show is
- 1:22:27definitely a darker side of the franchise.
- 1:22:29Fiona Duriff joining the franchise is a perfect and it's
- 1:22:33perfect and the twists are great.
- 1:22:35The post credits scene is awesome.
- 1:22:36Now 10 for me. All right.
- 1:22:38Cool. Yeah, I I do agree that Fiona
- 1:22:42Durif is a great addition to the series.
- 1:22:44She, she absolutely is. She's she's great.
- 1:22:47Yeah, and like the following movies and show, she does a
- 1:22:50great job, like a great performance.
- 1:22:53But yeah, I I really like the direction the series takes from
- 1:22:56this point on. And I will just say now, I don't
- 1:23:00think we're going to cover the show, the TV show on our show
- 1:23:04just because that's a massive undertaking to cover in the same
- 1:23:10way that we cover. It's multiple movies, they're
- 1:23:13like 40 minute episodes, so it'd be tough.
- 1:23:15To do it'd be really tough. Like we had, you know, even when
- 1:23:18we covered Scream Queens for the Patreon, both the reality show
- 1:23:22and the Ryan Murphy show, like those were incredibly condensed.
- 1:23:25And yeah, it to get all of the nuance and stuff from the
- 1:23:30storyline. We just we do not have the
- 1:23:31capacity to make that happen. Yeah, never say never in the.
- 1:23:35Current state, yeah. But you know, as of right now,
- 1:23:38that's kind of. If we're ever to a point where
- 1:23:39this is our full time jobs, yeah, we'll come back and
- 1:23:41revisit it. But that's not where we're at
- 1:23:43realistically right now. So OK, and we do have a Blue sky
- 1:23:47review. Yay.
- 1:23:49Or zombie or blue sky. What's up buddy?
- 1:23:52So he says. I really like this movie.
- 1:23:55It was a change from the over the top wacky Chucky but still
- 1:23:58really good. Like a return to the first, but
- 1:24:00felt even darker. I mean, I think I feel like that
- 1:24:04was their goal was to take it darker because even the first
- 1:24:06few films were kind of silly at times.
- 1:24:08And then this one, like, oh, you don't want funny anymore.
- 1:24:11OK here. We're going to make it really
- 1:24:13dark now. Yeah.
- 1:24:14And they really lean hard into that, which I really appreciate.
- 1:24:17Yeah. It's cool that the series can go
- 1:24:20so many different places but still be good at its core.
- 1:24:23Yeah, I agree. All right, so that right there
- 1:24:27doesn't, that's our Curse of Chucky episode.
- 1:24:30Yeah. So next week, next, and get
- 1:24:35ready, y'all, we're gonna be having y'all bubbies over for
- 1:24:38dinner. Yeah, we're gonna be doing
- 1:24:40Thanksgiving. Man, I can't believe next week
- 1:24:42is Thanksgiving. I know.
- 1:24:44Isn't it crazy like I it's only streaming one place right now
- 1:24:47it's on Netflix. Yeah, OK.
- 1:24:51And you have to have the non ad tier to watch it.
- 1:24:55So yeah, that's not great for us right now.
- 1:24:59Nope. I'm gonna buy it.
- 1:25:01I got I'm. I'm just gonna fucking buy.
- 1:25:02It anyway. Yeah, I was gonna buy it to
- 1:25:05begin with. It's just like I've been waiting
- 1:25:06for it. And you know what?
- 1:25:07I'm just gonna fucking do it now because it's time.
- 1:25:10Yeah. So, you know, you can do the
- 1:25:12same if you want to watch it with us, or you can watch it on
- 1:25:15your upgrade to Netflix if you're fancy.
- 1:25:18Yeah. Or you can just rent it wherever
- 1:25:20that is, too. So, you know, watch it.
- 1:25:21It's a good movie. It's it's fun.
- 1:25:23We're, you know, holiday theme. Yeah, take the Thanksgiving
- 1:25:27horror movies when you can get them cuz there's not a lot of
- 1:25:29them. Absolutely.
