This is kind of a passion project for us and something that we are really excited about, and it excites us even more that you're looking forward to listening every week and watching. If you're on YouTube, In-Person: see the video of the episode. Chad: you can see the video of In-Person: In today's episode, we are going to be talking about our love story. I have shared with many of y'all over on social media that Chad and I were middle school sweethearts, and so we get questions about that all the time. And you want more details, you want to know, like, how'd you meet? What was the proposal like? And just the backstory. We also got married really young. We were 20. So I feel like this is the perfect opportunity to dive a little Chad: So I feel like this is the perfect opportunity to dive a little In-Person: bit deeper and just share that story with y'all. There is a good bit of humor mixed into this. Our story is really fun but also kind of funny. And so I'm really excited to share more about that today. But before we dive straight in, we want to do our little porch talk segment. Chad: bit deeper and just share that story with y'all. There is a good bit of humor mixed into this. Our story is really fun, but also kind of funny. And so I'm really excited to share more about that today. But before we dive straight in, we want to do little Porsche Talk segment. In-Person: And this is where we share one good thing from the week something that really encouraged us or that we're super grateful for. from this week or just something that really made our heart happy and then also something that maybe challenged us or an area of growth in this past week. So Chad, what was kind of your bright spot of this past week? Chad: so many of of my bright spots, things that just bring me joy and like the day to day, week to week revolve around our kids. So I know last week was and and this one will be another one just with our kids. but specifically with our oldest, it was so much fun. We had a special event for school this week and they do they spend kind of part of their their semester, not semester, but this their unit that they're working on. Everything kind of builds up to kind of a a in project. for all of the kids. And so our oldest, he he him and his friends, a couple friends, they built a boat out of cardboard and duct tape and they did like this boat regatta. And so they they you know kind of built many miniature versions of it to kind of test it and then built the full size boat and you know three boys three middle school boys piled into this boat and they had to race and paddle across a pool at the YMCA which was hilarious and and the yeah they were in In-Person: Hilarious and it was so fun. We were Chad: lanes In-Person: in lanes for you know the like the swimmer lane, so they kept in that lane, had to go down to to one end and then turn around and come back. Chad: for the the swimmer lane so they kept in that lane had to go down to to one end and then turn around and come back. and that was so much fun to me. just being there to celebrate him and his friends and his classmates, the hard work they put in over this unit and then seeing it all come together the science and and math that they learned behind those to then build these boats out of cardboard and duct tape that floated every single one of them. I was very proud every single one of them their boats floated the entire time. You only had one group that ended up In-Person: Was so much fun to me, just being there to celebrate him and his friends and his classmates, the hard work they put in over this unit, and then seeing it all come together, the science and and math that they learned behind those, to then build these boats out of cardboard and duct tape that floated. Every single one of them, I was very proud of every single one of them. Their boats floated the entire time. You only had one group that ended up in Chad: In the water, and they chose to bail out. So no one's boat, I you know, I thought for sure someone was gonna have like a In-Person: the water, yeah, and they chose to bail out. So no one's boat, I thought for sure someone was gonna have a Chad: leak and they didn't get duct tape, you know, everywhere they needed to, and so it'd get the cardboard wet and it would disintegrate with three kids inside these these you know cardboard boats, but not a single one actually had that happen, and again, only one crew kind of flipped their boat on purpose. but that was so much fun. That was definitely my bright spot this week. just having the ability to to go and and celebrate that with them and all their hard work and just see them have. so much fun with it and encourage each other and root for each other was just so much fun. It was so much fun and just yeah, so sweet to see the school that the kids are at is just it's one of a kind. It's such an encouraging environment and even, you know, when kids were in last place, you know, their classmates were just cheering for them and really excited for all the hard work that In-Person: Yeah, so sweet to see the school that the kids are at is just it's one of a kind. It's such an encouraging environment and even, you know, when kids were in last place, you know, their classmates were just cheering for them and really excited for them and just celebrating all the hard work that got them to this point and it was really sweet. I loved it. It was sweet. And the the the way that they dressed of the teams were hilarious, the team names that they have. Chad: Got them to this point and it was really sweet. I loved it. It was sweet. And also the the the way that they dress, some of the teams were hilarious. The team names that they had, they got to name their team, they got to do their boat and however they wanted to, so design it and then colors and all the stuff we so they could choose the like duct tape colors they wanted and so they got to build some really fun boats. but we had like some minions and and they dressed up like minions. We had what was it the the two two unicorns or something, right? And In-Person: They got to name their team, they got to do their boat and however they wanted to, so design it and then colors and all this stuff. We so they could choose the duct tape colors they wanted and so they got to build some really fun boats. but we had some minions and and they dressed up minions. We had what was it the the tutu unicorns or something, right? Yeah. Chad: and just some kids just with some really funny outfits or costumes doing this which was all In-Person: Some kids just with some really funny outfits or costumes doing this, which was all Chad: the sweeter. It was super fun. It was great. What about you? What was your kind of bright spot this week? Honestly it was this weekend. Okay. We went an antique market and it was a blast. It was so much fun. In-Person: Yeah, it was great. What about you? What was your kind of bright spot this week? Honestly, it was this weekend. We went to an antique market and it was a blast. It was so much fun. Probably more fun for me than all of y'all, but it was such a sweet day. It was actually really overcast. It did rain on us just a little bit, but just so that like small town feel of everyone gathering at the farm, all the pumpkins are out. Mums are out. There's a bluegrass band playing and barbecue cooking and it just was the epitome of like a fall day and it was so cozy. We found so many great antiques. this we are recording this in real time so by the time you listen to this my YouTube video will be out if you are interested in seeing that. I filmed while we were there. I filmed my haul Chad: There's a bluegrass band playing and barbecue cooking and it just was the epitome of like a fall day and it was so cozy. We found so many great antiques. this we are recording this in real time, so by the time you listen to this, my YouTube video will be out if you are interested in seeing that. I filmed while we were there, I filmed my haul. In-Person: and it was just a great time but I was gathering pieces to continue our gallery wall up our staircase. So we did a project a couple months back with a gallery wall that went up the staircase but our staircase is really open and so it goes up to the second level and so we still have some square footage to cover there and I found some really great pieces. So just the whole feel of the weekend being together as a family. The kids wanted to go to bathroom Chad: some square footage to cover there and I found some really great pieces. So just the whole feel of the weekend together as a family. The kids wanted to In-Person: Pro so random on the way home and we were like, Let's do it, why not? And I think just the spontaneity of that day, just calling it a family day, was really sweet and I don't know, my heart just needed that. hundred percent I'm with you. Yeah. What what do you think? So, like you said, you enjoy the antiques the most. What do you think was my favorite part of that day? The barbecue for sure. No question. No, it was definitely the yeah. Chad: go to Bath Pro so random on the way home and we were like, let's do it. Why not? And I think just the spontaneity of that day, just calling it a family day was really sweet and I don't know, my heart just needed that. Yeah, no, a hundred percent. I'm with you on that. What what do you think? So like you said, you enjoyed the antiques the most What do you think was my favorite part of that day? The barbecue for sure. One hundred percent the barbecue, you got it. yeah, no, it was definitely the barbecue. yeah, anytime there's there's barbecue, I'm down. So I'll I'll go antiquing and to whatever as long as barbecue's involved. So that worked out well. Okay, what was something that kinda challenged you this week? In-Person: there's barbecue I'm down so I'll whatever as long as barbecue's involved. So it'll work out well. Okay, what was something that kind of challenged you this week? Chad: This week I feel like Just work, just everything we had going on. It was it was a busy week for for all of the reasons, with with house and home and and my my full time job and then also stink things for the kids school and everything like that. It was a busy week, some good stuff, some you know, really good momentum for for my market and my team. some really good things going on. but it was challenging, it was hard. We had to push through. and I'm proud of of what we accomplished this week. But but yeah, it was just you know, it's a different In-Person: But yeah, it was just Chad: Difficult week. We had a lot going on and I I'm tired. I have not recovered yet this this weekend here. but but yeah, no it was it was a good week, but it was challenging, it pushed us, In-Person: difficult week. We had a lot going on and i I'm tired. I hear you on that. I hear you on that. but but yeah, was it was a good week, but it was challenging, it pushed us. Chad: and grew us and that that was the important piece is that you know, I think my team and myself are are better for for having this week. So how about you? What challenged you this week? In-Person: Something that challenged me this week is feeling like I hit a setback with my shoulder recovery. So if you are new around here, I just had my third shoulder surgery back in May since 2020. And this one was a lot more intense. It was an open procedure. I have stability issues and hypermobility, and it's just kind of more of like a unique case. And so the recovery has not been quite as cookie-cutter as the last couple. of surgeries and so that was a little bit of a bummer but it was also like I had a choice. I can sit in this and be kinda like discouraged or I can remember how far I've come Chad: surgeries and so that was a little bit of a bummer but it was also like I had a choice. I can sit in this and be kinda like discouraged or I can remember how far I've come. In-Person: and I decided to do that. I decided to remember that, you know, even just two months ago there were so many things that I couldn't do that I can do now. And so I think for me it challenged me and it helped me kind of reframe Chad: And I decided to do that. I decided to remember that, you know, even just two months ago, there were so many things that I couldn't do that I can do now. And so I think for me it challenged me and it helped me kind of reframe In-Person: just like my mental, load. how am I choosing to handle this? And moving forward, like I just decided I'm gonna be even more regimented with my exercises at Chad: just like my mental, you know, load. Like how am I choosing to handle this? And moving forward, like it just decided I'm gonna be even more regimented with my exercises out. In-Person: home and the things I need to do to really get better. So I feel like I'm in a good headspace now, but for a couple of days there I wasn't feeling too great. Chad: And the things I need to do to really get better. So I feel like I'm in a good headspace now, but for a couple of days there I wasn't feeling too great. Yeah. How Yeah, I know that that was that was really hard for you and and it's been a it's been a long recovery and you know it it it's not just a physical thing but it's it's a mental and emotional thing as well. And so I know that that that was hard for you this week and but I'm proud of you for you know, again, choosing choosing to kind of take it all in stride and reframe and being thankful for the progress you made so far. So good job. Love you. In-Person: Alright, let's get into the meat of today's episode. No. No, not that. Not that kind of meat. Sorry. Not that kind of meat. Not now. Maybe for dinner. Okay, so today we're gonna talk about how Chad: Right, let's get into the meat of today's episode. Barbecue? No. not that kind of meat. Okay. Not now. Maybe for dinner. That's right. Okay, talk about how In-Person: we met and really the heart behind our relationship. As I mentioned in the intro, we have been together longer than we have not. We started dating when we were in eighth grade. I was thirteen and Chad was fourteen. So was at the end of our eighth grade year. We actually grew up going to the same school K through twelve. We were I think in the same kindergarten class. We have yearbook photos that we like will show the kids sometimes, which is so fun. And we were also on the same T ball team. His dad was actually our coach, which is so funny looking back because I have zero memory of this, but the yearbook and our parents remember and so that's really sweet. But we really didn't start talking and Chad: We actually grew up going to the same school K through twelve. We were I think in the same kindergarten class. I think so, yeah. We have yearbook photos that we like will show the kids sometimes, which is so fun. And we were also on the same T ball team. His dad was actually our coach, which is so funny looking back because I have zero memory of this, but the yearbook and our parents remember and so that's really sweet. But we really didn't start talking and In-Person: And like becoming friends until eighth grade. Would you like to share why that was? Yeah. So like Scott said, I mean it it's a small school, small public school and I think our graduated class was around a hundred people. Yeah. so like everyone knew everyone. Chad: And becoming friends until eighth grade. Would you like to share why that was? Yeah. So Sky said, it's a small school, small public school, and I think our graduating class was around a hundred people. so everyone knew everyone, but you and I ran in very different circles. so so Sky was very introverted, very reserved. and I at the time was the complete opposite. as I've grown older, I've become become more and more introverted and and just I wanna be just with you guys, and and that sort of thing. And so but when I was younger I was very much an extrovert. clowns I say In-Person: be just with you guys, and and that sort of thing. And so, but when I was younger, I was very much an extrovert. The class clown, some would say. The class clown, yes. there was a time when I was funny. I was like, you are no you're so very funny. But no, so yeah, we ran very different circles. and we didn't really even have like a any friend group crossover. because th your friends were also pretty like Chad: The class clown. Yes. there was a time when I was funny. I I lost that years ago. but but no. So yeah, we ran in very different circles. and we didn't really even have like a like any friend group crossover, 'cause the your friends were also pretty like introverted, quiet, that kind of thing. And you guys kinda had your your group. and I had my main group, all of which were rambunctious. but I I also associated with with pretty much everyone else too. but yeah, we just didn't really ever like Yeah. mesh, and then as we as we got older and and again eighth grade, we actually had a mutual friend. Someone moved to our school, who is new, maybe seventh grade, eighth grade. and and so she had moved into the school district and we both kind of befriended her. and because of that we started kind of talking. and so Okay. So back back in our day, actually everyone listening is is probably close to our age or older anyway, but but I work with some younger kids. I have to tell them how In-Person: Was new, maybe seventh grade, eighth grade, and and so she had moved into the school district, and we both befriended her. and because of that, we started talking. and so you have to share this stuff. So, back back in our day, actually, everyone listening is probably close to our age or older anyway, but but I work with some younger kids, I have to tell them how Chad: things used to be. But back in our day, you would have like three-way calls, right? Like you would call on a landline In-Person: things used to be. but back in our day, you would have like three-way calls, right? Like you would call on a land. Chad: and call to talk to a friend at their parents' house. And so you would call and ask for them and then you would hope that like no one else hopped on the phone and picked up a landline while you were talking. Yeah, your mom. Or like would need to use the internet and like have to kick you off, right? Back when we had dial up. But but anyway, so yeah, so we I would we would talk like three ways a friend group and and get on phone calls. And then this friend would be like In-Person: to talk to a friend at their parents' house and so you would call and ask for them and then you would hope for no one else hopped on the phone and picked up a landline while you were talking or would need to use the internet and have to kick you off, right? Back when we had a dial up. but but anyway, so yeah, so we I would we would talk like three ways, like a friend group and and get on phone calls, and then this friend would be like, I gotta go and we're like Chad: I gotta go and we're like, hey, we're gonna stay on and chat. and so you and I would just stay on and talk and so so yeah, we started talking and then when we would do friend things we would get together, and because of this friend and like have have things, you know, that we would do together. and so yeah, I I I I guess that's it. we am I missing was just saying that she this mutual friend really liked Chad and so In-Person: And we're gonna stay on and chat. and so you and I would just stay on and talk and so so yeah, we started talking and then when we would do friend things we would get together, and because of this friend and have have things, that we would do together. and so yeah, I I I I guess that's it. we am I missing anything? Well, I was just going to say that she this mutual friend really liked Chad and so that was a little tricky because Chad: was a little tricky because In-Person: She she I don't know that she was really fond of the idea of us becoming friends, but that's how it happened. Chad: she she I don't know that she was really fond of the but that's how it In-Person: Yeah. Chad: Yeah. So we became friends pretty quickly, you know, because of this mutual friend. But for me, it was I I knew instantly that I did not just want to be friends with you. I knew, you know, not only that I wanted to to date you, but I was like, this is the woman that I'm going to marry. Like I fell in love with you. and you know, and there's so many reasons. I knew from from very early on when we started talking, I I mean first of all, her eyes, guys, I fell in love with her eyes In-Person: talking, I first of all her eyes guys. I fell in love with her eyes was the Chad: the most beautiful eyes, you stare into them. but I I I knew that she was like such a I I learned, I should say, through these conversations and seeing her with her friends, with her family. In-Person: She's beautiful eyes, you stare into them. but I I I knew that she was like such a I I learned, say, through these conversations and seeing her with her friends, with her family. Chad: I knew that she was like fiercely loyal and that she loved like very deeply. and for me even in eighth grade, which again I was a class clown. I was also kind of a you know like a dumb kid. but I knew what I wanted long term. and I wanted I wanted a wife and I wanted a family. and I knew that she would be just the most amazing wife, the most amazing mother, and that was really important to me. and so, you know, I saw how she how she loved, I saw how loyal she was, and I saw just so much in her that I was like that done. There's there's no one else that's ever gonna, you know, match Sky. And so so yeah, I knew very quickly and so then I'm like, Well I gotta lock this down. So I ask you out, why don't you share that story? I know we we we did touch on it last week, but but give us the the background on on how, you know, I I decided to to pop that question. In-Person: Well, I'm just sitting over here blushing because it's not every day that you like revisit your love story and why you fell in love with somebody and that was all very sweet. I love you. but yes, so as Chad mentioned, I was like the introvert of all introverts. I was really happy with my small group of friends, and I was the type of student that did exactly what the teacher wanted me to do, and I Chad: Yes, so as Chad mentioned, I was like the introvert of all introverts. I was really happy with my small group of friends and I was the type of student that did exactly what the teacher wanted me to do and I In-Person: was not about to test the boundaries, whether that was at school or really at home. just like me. Yeah, exactly. Just like you. So Chad: was not about to test the boundaries, whether that was at school or really at home. Yeah, so just like me. Yeah, exactly, just like you. We couldn't have been more polar opposite in that kind of a situation. As far as like our values and things like that, those were pretty well lined up. But In-Person: we couldn't have been more polar opposite in that kind of a situation. As far as like our values and things like that, those were pretty well lined up. But so he I guess had the great idea that we're gonna make Skye as uncomfortable as she possibly can be and call her to the office, which has never happened in my childhood life. And so Yeah, yeah. Just another day. So I went to the office and I was like, What have I done? Chad: So he I guess had the great idea that we're gonna make Sky as uncomfortable as she possibly can be and call her to the office, which has never happened in my childhood life. It was like a weekly thing for me. So another day. Just another day. So I went to the office and I was like, What have I done? In-Person: I thought I was in trouble. I had no idea. And I get to the office and there's a vase filled with colored, like dyed carnations, like bright purple and orange and blue and a smiley face balloon and then a card. And the card on the inside said, Sky, I love you. Will you be my girlfriend? And I said yes. And here we are. Chad: get to the office and there's a vase filled with colored dyed bright purple and orange and blue and a smiley face balloon and then a and the card on the inside says Skye I love you, will you And I said yes. That's right. That's right. And the rest is history. Yeah. In-Person: Yeah. Here we are. Chad: That's that's right. Here we are. In-Person: But no, it's really sweet to look back on that because it I feel like in a way encapsulates both of our personalities a little bit and like you wanted to pull me out of my comfort zone a little bit. And that's kind of what you've done our whole marriage. Yeah. But it's a good thing. Yes, exactly. The balance. Yeah. Yes. Which Chad: do. Yeah, that's right. And you pull me back from the edge. Which is also what you've done. Yeah. Absolutely. Yeah. Yes. Which I In-Person: I love so much. but I have have to share about our first kiss because this story is so funny. Well I guess actually you need to share a little bit from your perspective from before it happened and leading up to it and then I can kind of share the moment. Yeah so you know every eighth grade boy just dreams of this moment, his first kiss with the just the most beautiful woman in the world. And so I had it pictured. I had this like, you know, in my mind I had Chad: This story is so funny. Well I guess actually you need to share a little bit from your perspective from before it happened and leading up to it and then I can share the moment. Yeah, so every eighth grade boy just dreams of this moment, his first kiss with the just the most beautiful woman in the world. And so I had it pictured. I had this like, you know, in my mind I had this like Fabio blonde hair. In-Person: no, I Chad: Just I was gonna take her n I was muscular, I was jacked at the time, obviously, and I dip her and kiss her. I my what do you mean background? I guess that that You had wanted to a few different kinds of correct yeah and it just didn't work out and it didn't pan out how we hoped. The opportunity wasn't quite there like you wanted it to be, if did ask them. In-Person: You had wanted to a few different times, I think, and it just didn't work out. it didn't pan out how you'd hoped. The opportunity wasn't quite there like you wanted it to be, if I'm remembering correctly. But you did ask somebody Chad: Mm-hmm. If kiss me. In-Person: if you could kiss me before you kissed me. I did have of respect for you and for your parents. I believe I Chad: I did out of respect for you and for your parents. I believe I asked your mom and said, you know, hey, I I really love your daughter and I would like to kiss her and is that okay? And I think she hesitantly said yes. I'm not I don't really remember. In-Person: I think she hesitantly said yes. I know, I'm actually shocked if she said yes. We need to get her on the phone. Yeah. I I I mean I wouldn't have done it without the permission. but but yeah, no, I'm pretty sure that that she said yes. and I think she knew at that time we had been, you know, s kind of seen. Yeah, we probably Chad: Yeah. She said yes. That's right. We need to ask her. I I I wouldn't have done it without the permission. but but yeah, no, I'm pretty sure that that she said yes. and I think she knew at that time we had been, you know, s kind of seeing each other a little bit. In-Person: weren't quite eighth grade, maybe end of summer, so just about freshman in high school. and so yeah, I think she kind of saw how we Chad: Yeah, yeah. and so yeah, I I think she kind of saw how we you know, she saw what we saw, at the time. But but at any rate, yeah, so I I had asked your mom and then the way that I remember it and my my memory gets fuzzier year by year, but the way that I remember it is that we had a a fire, like a bombfire, which was kind of my favorite thing, not yours. but frequently. Yeah school. It was In-Person: my favorite thing, not yours. but Well we did that frequently i throughout middle school and high school. It was kind of our thing. Chad: Mm-hmm. In-Person: but yeah I'm not a huge bonfire person. I think the like smoke and everything gives me a headache. But Chad: But In-Person: I loved that time together because we have great memories sitting out by the fire. absolutely yeah and when I say it wasn't your favorite thing, I think more because of like you said, the smell, your eyes always had eyes contacts. I have very dry dry eye Chad: Mm-hmm. Yeah. absolutely. Yeah. And when I say it wasn't your favorite thing, I think more because of like you said, the smell. Your eyes, you've always had eye issues. You used to have contacts. you did contacts for the longest time and you had dry eyes. And so you I don't think you loved it because of that. And then also your hair getting the bonfire smell out versus like my hair. Yeah, pretty easily. Pretty easy, yeah. and so it makes more work for you. But but at any rate, yeah, so so we had a bonfire, we had friends over, and we're just sitting out the In-Person: dry eyes and so you I don't think you loved it because of that and then also your hair getting the bonfire smell out or something like you have to go home and take a shower immediately. Yeah. so it makes more work for you. But but at any rate, yeah, so so we had a bonfire, we had friends over just sitting the fire and again a good opportunity for us to to kind of talk and bond and get to know Chad: fire and again a good opportunity for us to to talk and bond and get to know one another and I I don't think I could work up the nerve, if I recall correctly, like you were there all night for like a couple hours. We had this bonfire, we'd friends over, and I couldn't work up the nerve to do it. At one point we even like s like went slightly away from the fire and we're sitting on like my parents like swing that like a porch swing type of thing out in the backyard. And we were sitting there. I think In-Person: Yes. Yes. I remember that. Yes. we're water. Actually I think that's where you told me that you asked my mom if it was okay. Chad: It's that's possible. In-Person: Yes. Here's what I remember. So next thing like next thing I know, maybe we were sitting there and then Chad: But then I didn't kiss you there because here's what I remember. So next thing like next thing I know, maybe we were sitting there and then our mutual friend's mom came to pick you guys up. And maybe maybe she interrupted it. I was working my way there. So sh Okay. So she came to pick you guys up. And I was like, goodness, they're about to leave. I was planning on kissing this girl tonight. Like, I've gotta get a kiss. And as you guys were getting in the car, I opened the door for you to get in the In-Person: Exactly. Yes. Maybe she interrupted it. I was working my way there. Yes, that's exactly what happened. She came to pick you guys up and I was like, goodness, they're about to leave. I was planning on kissing this girl tonight. Like, I've gotta get a kiss. And as you guys were getting in the car, I opened the door for you to get in the car. Chad: car. of our friend's mom's vehicle and I I think you got in and then I like leaned in and kissed you in the passenger side i if if that sounds right. that's how I remember it and that was our first kiss. Maybe not. In-Person: kiss you in the passenger side if it if that sounds right. I don't remember being fully in the car. I remember the door being open and I think you just kind of like put your arm around me and kiss me really quick and then we're like, bye and I was like dying inside, like in the best way. Chad: Yeah. In-Person: I got home and it was like late, probably nine or ten, I don't know. And I got home I immediately 'cause you know landlines, I ran into my mom's Chad: That's right. In-Person: bathroom which had a landline because I wanted to be like discreet and quiet. I didn't want to go like in the kitchen where everyone could hear me. And so I ran in her bathroom and I immediately called my cousin and I was like, my goodness, I just had my first kiss and we left this detail out that's so important. I sorry, the other way around, you were my first boyfriend, my first kiss, all of it. So it was like a big deal. Whereas Chad, you know, Chad: because I wanted to be like discreet and quiet. I didn't want to go like in the kitchen where of course hear me. And so I ran her bathroom and I immediately called my cousin and I was like, my goodness, I just had my first kiss and we left this detail out. It's so important. I sorry, the other way around, you were my first boyfriend. That's true. My first kiss. All of it. So it was like a big deal. Whereas Chad, you know In-Person: had had a few other Chad: I'd had a few other girlfriends at the time. But but at the time. No no, not at the sorry. Like before the time. but but again, none In-Person: Yeah. Not at the time. Not at the time. Sorry. Not at the time. Before the time. But again, none of them stacked. Chad: of stacked up, you know? In-Person: you're So yeah, I feel like that was when we knew that we knew before that that it was serious, but I think that it definitely kind of like locked it in, okay, because for me, if I was going to kiss a boy, I was gonna marry that boy. Like in my heart, I again like with the loyalty maybe it is, like I just was like, That's it, I'm done. And so really all through high school Chad: Mm-hmm. And so really through high school In-Person: We talked about marriage all the time. Our eyes were set on that goal and we knew that when we graduated high school that it was gonna be, you know, engagement before too long. That was something that we were planning for and we were really excited about and all of our family and all of our friends Chad: we talked about marriage all the time. Our eyes were set on that goal and we knew that when we graduated high school that it was gonna be, you know, engagement before too long. That was something that we were planning for and we were really excited about and all of our family all of our friends In-Person: knew. Chad: New. So that brings us to the proposal we talked about. We knew coming out of high school that that that was something we both had intentions of. so let's, I guess why don't you share knew, but together that it was coming. Because when I tell you that we did everything together, Chad and I both. In-Person: So this is something that we kind of knew, obviously you knew, but together that it was coming because when I tell you that we did everything together, Chad and I both went through high school, we worked in the evenings after school, and if we had any spare moment or free time, we were pretty much together. And if we weren't together, we were on the phone with each other. I mean, we just were one Chad: And if we had any spare moment or free time, we were pretty much together. Yeah. And if we weren't together, we were on the phone with each other. we just were wanting In-Person: Wanting to spend as much quality time together as we could. Chad: to spend as much quality time together as we We knew coming out of high school that a proposal was imminent. And so we took steps to make that happen. It was not a surprise necessarily that it happened, but the timing I had to work out, right? So first we we decided to go get your ring, which you actually designed, which was a lot of fun that process. you know, it it's not necessarily every day that that you buy a wedding ring. and so that was fun that you got to design that one and you know, styles change, all that sort of stuff. I bought it when I was like nineteen, so it's also pretty Pretty small and cheap. so we have upgraded it since then. but but still we got to design that ring together. It was, special made. So they had to create it and then I had to pick it up like weeks later. But but we did that process. And then from there, I asked your parents blessing and I tried to be kind of sneaky about that. I think I did it one day when you were at work, and I I went over In-Person: I think I did it one day when you were at work and I I went over Chad: before you were gonna get home and and talked with your parents and got their blessing to to ask you to marry me. And then from there I had to kind of determine, okay, what In-Person: get home and and talk with your parents and got their blessing to to ask you to marry me and then from there I had to kinda determine okay w what are n like what what does the actual proposal look like and so being nineteen at the time and you know not flush with cash I'm like how am I gonna do like a special proposal that that she will remember for the rest of her life that isn't like me getting down on money in McDonalds or something. You did much Chad: what are n what what does the actual proposal look like? And so, being nineteen at the time, and not flush with cash, I'm like, how am I gonna do like a special proposal that that she will remember for the rest of her life, that isn't like me getting down on one knee in McDonalds or something. so In-Person: better Chad: I did much better than that. Thank you. So so I planned it out. So I have some family that lives in Indianapolis area. and we always loved going to Indy to to do things with them and spend time with them when we were in like high school. that was really special to us. And so one of the things that that I thought of was like, what if we did indie? so I was talking with my aunt that lived there, like, hey, I'm thinking about this, give me some good ideas, and working with her on like restaurants and all that. And so basically we formulated this plan, right? so I'm like, hey, we're gonna go spend some time in Indy this weekend. So you and I are gonna drive down and I told them I told you, I'm sorry, that we were going to meet them out for dinner downtown Indianapolis. so we We we have to pause here. Do you remember what we did? In-Person: you know, drive down, and I told them I told you, I'm sorry, that we were going to meet them out for dinner downtown Indianapolis. so we go downtown. Wait, we have to pause here. Do you remember what we did on the ride there? Do you remember the stop we made? I don't Chad: Don't not the top of my head, no. So Chad's aunt, even still to this day, and her daughters are like the cutest, most fashionable girls ever. They always come dressed in like they're just so stylish and I am not In-Person: So Chad's aunt, even still to this day, and her daughters are like the cutest, most fashionable girls ever. They always come dressed in like they're just so stylish. And I am not. Fashion isn't my thing. And I was so stressed about my shoes that day. We stopped to get me boots. I made him stop on the way because I just was not feeling my outfit and I was. Chad: Fashion isn't my thing and I was so stressed about my shoes that day. Did we stop and get you boots? We stopped to get me boots. Yes, I do remember that now. I made him stop on the way because I just was not feeling my outfit and I was like, We're going to a nice restaurant. In-Person: we're going to a nice restaurant because he said, you know, just dress nice, like nothing over the top or anything like that. Just wear something like you know that's nice. And I was like, is this nice? I don't know if this is nice. This is like my personality. And so I was so stressed about the shoes that I was wearing and we made a pit stop to get some new boots. It was in October, actually it was October twenty third, the day that you proposed and so you can resume the story. Chad: Because he said, just dress nice, nothing over top or like that. Just wear something like, you know, that's nice. And I was like, Is this nice? I don't know if this is nice is like my personality. And so I was so stressed about the shoes that I was wearing and we made a pit stop to get some new boots. I think you're right, yeah. It was in October, it was October twenty third, the day that you proposed. And so you can resume the story. Okay. Yeah, that's funny, I completely forgot about that, but you're right. So we yeah, because I had led you on like, hey, we're gonna go meet them for dinner at like I guess a nest r an excuse me, a nice restaurant downtown. so basically I had talked with my aunt said, give me some ideas. And so we ended up going to a restaurant that I'm not sure if it's even there anymore. I believe it's called the Ocean Air. and basically it nice restaurant where they print their menus each day for whatever's fresh, all the different I guess fresh, whatever they have been. I mean it's on the coast, but but anyway. In-Person: But Yeah, very nice restaurant. Nice restaurant. Yeah on there I printed don't remember even what it said. We still have the menus somewhere, but but basically I you could print something on the menu. So I said said something about, you know, love you and and I don't actually on the menu the proposal because I I knew that right yeah, the proposal wasn't on the menu, but it was Chad: Nice restaurant and on there I printed and I don't remember even what it said. We still have the menus somewhere but but basically I you could print something on the menu. So I said said something about, you know, I love you and and I don't think it was actually on the menu the proposal 'cause I I did it after the fact, right? Yeah. Okay. In-Person: that was the moment when we got to the restaurant and your family wasn't there and they greeted us with the menus. So we got to the Chad: And your family wasn't there. Yes. And they greeted us with the menus. So we got In-Person: door and they had these elaborate menus in their hand and I was like I have never been to a restaurant this nice in my Chad: to the door and they had these elaborate menus in their hand and I was like, I have never been to Russia. In-Person: life and it said at the top something like Sky I love you so much or something like that and I was like Okay Chad: It said at the top something like Sky, I love you so much or something like that. And I was like, Okay In-Person: this may be it so I thought you were gonna do it at the restaurant but you didn't. I didn't yeah so so of course it didn't say it on there. Yeah my thinking. yeah so we we had a r we had the meal. like you said, my family wasn't there Chad: may be it. So I thought you were gonna do it at the restaurant. Mm-hmm. That's right. I didn't. Yeah. So so of course it didn't say it on there. Goodness, what am I thinking? yeah, so we we had a r we had the meal. like you said, my family wasn't there. It was a bait and switch. so I I I said that they were gonna meet us there, they didn't. so from there we we had a nice meal and then again, you know, mustering every dollar I could as a nineteen year old, I wanted to do something special. So we got a horse and buggy ride, In-Person: It was a bait and switch. so I I I said that they were gonna meet us there, they didn't. so from there we we had a nice meal and then again, you know, mustering every dollar I could as a nineteen year old, I wanted to do something special, so we got a horse and buggy You knew that was something that I had always wanted to do. Something you always wanted to do. So we did a a horse and buggy ride around Chad: was something that always wanted to do that something you had always wanted to do. So we did a a horse and buggy ride around downtown Indianapolis and it was late October and it was unusually cold for late October. I remember that we got in the horse and buggy. My nose was like running. It was we were shivering. Yes. It was freezing, but it was so magical at the same time. The city was all lit up and it was it was just beautiful. But I knew okay, it's coming because not only was it In-Person: And it was late October and it was unusually cold for late October. I remember that we got divorced in buddy and my nose was like running. We were shivering. It was freezing, but it was so magical at the same time. The city was all lit up and it was it was just beautiful. But I knew like, okay, it's coming because not only was it cold and we were shivering because it was cold, but you had like the nervous shivers, you know, where it's like can't like control Chad: nervous shippers. probably yeah. You can't In-Person: it you're like just so shivery and it was so sweet and I wanted to do everything to just be like it's okay calm down there's no need to be stressed. I'm gonna say yes but I also didn't want to like spoil I wanted you to have like your moment and like let it be that special time, you know? I mean it was. Yeah it was so we did that ride and again freezing cold. I had them pull over so Chad: control it. You're just so shivery and it was so sweet and I wanted to do everything to just be like it's okay, calm down. There's no need to be stressed. I'm gonna say yes. But I also didn't want to like spoil. I wanted you to have like your moment and let it be that special time, you know? It was Yeah, no it was. So so we did that ride and again, freezing cold. I had them pull over So I didn't do it in the the buggy, horse In-Person: I did do it in in the the buggy where Chad: and buggy. I had them pull over, and there's a a war memorial downtown Indianapolis. It's all lit up and it's it's beautiful. And we'd been down there for like MS walks before. And anyway, so we we walked up the steps of this war memorial that's like lit up at night and it was it was super cold, so there weren't a lot of people around. It was like just you and I on this giant, you know, monument. And so at that point, you know, on this monument, I got down on one knee and asked you to marry me. and She said yes, thankfully. bring ring to prove it. but but yeah, so that so that's where it happened. And then we actually got back on the buggy and and finished the ride. I guess maybe back to the the restaurant possibly. but but yeah, so then we finished that and then we went to to my family's house. In-Person: So that so that's where it happened and then we actually got back on the buggy and and finished the ride, I guess maybe back to the the restaurant possibly. but but yeah, so then we finished that and then we went to to my family's house. That day I still think back and I just have the absolute best memories of. A proposal doesn't need to be elaborate. You could have asked me in my pajamas in your parents' basement and I would have said yes and been ecstatic and been so happy. But this was, I think, for us just like a really cool moment because like you said, we did go to Indy. We traveled there quite often. We lived in Illinois, so it was like two and a half hour drive and we would go And visit his aunts and uncle and cousins quite frequently, every couple of months, maybe. And that was just like our special thing that we did together. And we would go explore downtown and we would go see that war war memorial building and just all the little memories, so it felt like a part of our story, and then added on like doing a new experience together, going to that restaurant was like so fun and cool, not something we do on the ordinary day. And then on top of that the horse and buggy ride, which you knew how much I wanted to do. I'd mention that every time we went downtown and it was just sweet. It was like, he is like paying attention to the little details and things like that. So it was such a special special day and I loved it so much. So we were engaged for let's see we got engaged October, end of October, and Chad: to do. I mentioned that every time we went downtown. And it was just sweet. It was like, he is like paying attention to the little details and things like that. So it was such a special special day. And it was so much. So we were engaged for let's see, we got engaged October end of October Yep. And that In-Person: And then we got married a year and a half later in June. And that was the best day ever. It was amazing. I don't know that our guests would say the same thing though. it was a hundred and four degrees. I think without the heat index, it's probably felt like it was way hotter. It was an outdoor wedding in Illinois, so it was super hot, super humid. It was at the beginning of June, so we thought we were like safe. We thought, okay, maybe eighties, you know, not too bad. It was absolutely miserable for everyone else. I don't know about you, but for me, I was not hot for one second that whole day. I think that it's something Chad: way hotter. It was an outdoor wedding in Illinois, so it was super hot, super humid. It was at the beginning of June, so we thought we were safe. We thought okay maybe eighties, not too bad. It was absolutely miserable for everyone else. I don't know about you, but for me, I was not hot for one second that whole day. I think that it's something In-Person: About the adrenaline or I don't know what, but I was on cloud Chad: about the adrenaline or I don't know what, but I was on cloud In-Person: nine all day long, and our poor wedding guests, despite the fans and us being like, You can take off your suit jackets, like just get comfortable, you know, they were hot and we have family members that still talk about our wedding and that's what they remember. It was the hottest day ever. Our cake melted, our wedding cake. Chad: Yeah. And our poor wedding despite the fans and us being like, You can take off your suit jacket. Just get comfortable, They were hot and we have family members that still talk about our wedding and that's what they remember. yeah, one hundred percent. It was the hottest day ever. Our cake melted, our wedding In-Person: and fell over. Chad: cake literally melted and In-Person: The person in the company that made our cake brought it, you know, after the the actual ceremony and all the things to set it up 'cause it was so hot out. So they set it out kind of sh shortly before we were going to cut it. even even so, with the fan on it and all the different things, like just trying to keep it cool outside there and like this open venue that we had in the summer. Chad: The person, the company that made our cake brought it, after the the actual ceremony and all the things to set it up because it was so hot out. So they set it out sh shortly before we were going to cut it. And even even so, with a fan on it and all the different things, like just trying to keep it cool outside there and like this open venue that we had in the summer, it melted and the fondant, you know, literally kind of sloped and and took our cake down and the cake literally fell. Yeah. In-Person: It melted in the pond know literally sloped and and took our cake down. Yes, we have pictures. It's so great. Yes. And honestly, people were like, Are you stressed out about the cake? Are you worried? I'm like, No, I just married the love of my life. I could care less about the cake or really any other little detail like that. Chad: If you just married the love of my life, I could care less about the cake. Or any other little detail. Yeah. Not to mention, the reality is you didn't hardly eat anything anyway. I was thinking about but we we In-Person: That's true. I know. I was thinking about our guests, but we we had plenty of options. The cake w the cake was still edible. Yeah. Chad: Yeah, yeah. Yeah yeah, people eat. melty cake. But yeah. In-Person: But it did melt. It was a melty cake. But yeah, that was wild. But it truly was the best day. We got married at a vineyard in a smaller town, rolling hills, just absolutely gorgeous. And we got to see a lot of our family that we don't see often that came from out of town. And I just have some of the sweetest memories. I had an uncle totally cut it up on the dance floor. Shout out Uncle Brian. We've got them Chad: Just And we got to see a lot of our family that we don't see often. They came from out of town. I just have some of the sweetest memories. I had an uncle totally cut it up on the dance floor. Yes. Shout out In-Person: Best videos. It's so great. But Chad: Uncle Brian. What's up? Uncle Brian can bust a move. Yes. In-Person: truly the best day. And then because we didn't eat, what did we do on the way home? So well I ate. Let me be clear guys. Okay. I l I love my wife and I love the family and get to say hey to everyone. They would come up to the table, you know, see her at that that head table there. and was really great about like talking to everyone. Chad: Truly the best day and then because we didn't eat, what did we do on the way home? So well, I ate. Let me be clear, guys. I l I love my wife and I love the family getting to say hey to everyone. They would come up to the table, as you were at that that head table there. and Sky was really great about like talking to everyone. I was like, I'm I'm gonna eat real quick. so I'd like eat and talk at the same time. but but no, so you didn't eat really, you didn't eat any of the like you know, the the food that was there, the cake. I don't remember you really eating anything. In-Person: But but no, so you didn't any of the like you know, the the food that was there, the cake. I don't remember you really eating anything. I think I remember eating green beans. I don't know why. Like did we have green beans? I think we did. That's the Chad: May maybe you had some green beans? I th I think so. We had some, yeah, something like that. In-Person: only memory I have of food other than the cake at the wedding. Yep. So you didn't eat. So we're driving home after after the wedding and Chad: Yep. So you didn't eat. So we're driving home after after the wedding and on the way, again, we're out in the middle of nowhere, so like you have to wait 'til you get closer to town, if you will. And you're like, I'm so hungry. I need to eat something, eat eat something. It's late, you know, it's after a wedding. Yeah. Something like that. And so like the only thing that was open kind of on our trek, that you could eat, In-Person: We're out in the middle of nowhere, so like you have to wait to get closer to town, if you will, and you're like, I am so hungry, I need to eat something, need to eat something. It's late, you know. It was like eleven or something, eleven thirty. Something like that. And so like the only thing that was open kind of on our track that you could eat. Chad: was Dairy Queen. So we stopped and got you, I think, a chicken sandwich. Do they even have those anymore? In-Person: was Dairy Queen. So we stopped and got you, I think, a chicken sandwich, do they even have those anymore? I don't know, honestly. And you're saying that you can eat, most people don't know, but I've I Chad: I don't know that they do, but I'm saying that you can eat most people don't know, but I In-Person: have a lot of like allergy, food, dairy food sensitivities. Yeah, lots of restrictions. and I could eat that. It did upset my stomach, but, you know, you gotta eat. Yeah, absolutely. And so I think Chad: Food dairy food sensitivities and things you yeah, exactly. Yep. and I could eat that. my stomach, but you know gotta eat. Yeah, absolutely. And so I think I again I don't even know if they still do chicken sandwiches, but at the time I think we got you a grilled chicken sandwich at Dairy Queen. and that was like your wedding night meal. so I do remember that. That's right, that's right. Remember it to this day. Yeah, yeah. And then we came home and In-Person: Again, I even know if they still do chicken sandwiches, but at the time I think we got you real chicken sandwiches, and that was like your wedding night meal. Yeah. It was great. I do remember. It's all for the memories, you know. That's right. It really is. Yeah, yeah. And then we came home and when we came home, we found Chad: We found In-Person: that my grandma and an aunt and a few cousins had teepeed our house. Which we didn't know at at the that it was them, right? Yeah. Coming home from a wedding. Chad: Yes. Which we didn't know a at the time that it was them, right? So we're coming home from a wedding, not expecting it to be be them. It was a house that we bought a couple months prior to us getting married. and I I moved in and and pa did some painting and all this stuff. and then we got married and you came home for the first night to live in this house and we pull in in this and it's a new town that like again new house, new town that we hadn't lived in before. and we get home and there's there's toilet paper all over our trees, all over our house, and we're like, What in the world? And yeah, so then we found out after In-Person: Not expecting it to be be them. It was a house that we bought a couple months prior to us getting married. Yeah. and I I moved in and and did some painting and all this stuff. and then we got married and you came home for the first night to live in the first night and we pull in in this and it's a new town that again, new house, new town that we hadn't lived in before. and we get home and there's there's toilet paper all over our trees, all over our house. And we're like, what in the world? And yeah, so then we found out after the Chad: the fact In-Person: Two days later, I think. It wasn't even next day. We found out I think it was the next day. I think I think it was the next day. But we found out that it was your grandma and your aunt and cousins that made that happen before I don't know, before the wedding, after the way they have a very funny sense of humor. Yes, so we got to and then I think it rained that night. So the next morning I was out there cleaning up wet toilet paper because we're like new neighbors and I don't want to Chad: Days later, I think. It wasn't even next day. We found out we found out that it was your grandma and your aunt and cousins that somehow made that happen before I don't know, before the wedding, after the wedding, I'm not sure. Yes. So we got to and then I think it rained that night. And so the next morning I was out there cleaning up wet toilet paper because we're like new neighbors and I don't want to look like In-Person: PSA don't recommend. Don't do that. But it was fun. Memories. Memories. It made it honestly, we just laughed. Like it was it was so funny. It really was. Chad: Yes, yeah. But no that that was fun. Memories. Like it was it was so funny. It really was. But yeah, that that honestly In-Person: So we thought we would do just a couple of quick fun questions to round out the episode sharing about our relationship from meeting each other and dating in middle school to engagement and then getting married. So I'd love to hear from you, Chad. One embarrassing story from when we were dating. Chad: I have so many. Of you? No. of of me. Okay. Okay, fair enough. In-Person: no, of me. It could be anything. It could be anything. Chad: so one of my favorite stories to this to this day, and my dad loves to tell it still as well, but one of my favorite stories w we mentioned earlier the mutual friend that we had that moved into town, and one time, again this would would have been eighth grade probably, freshman year, I had friends over and it was it was the middle of summer and one of the rare occasions where you and In-Person: it was the middle of summer and and one of the rare occasions where you and I weren't together and Chad: I In-Person: I was hanging out with someone else. and so I had friends over and we were it was super hot out and so I think we s decided to do a water balloon fight or something. and so we we blew up all these water balloons and started this water balloon fight and while we were going you and this friend pulled up and Chad: weren't together and I was hanging out with someone else. and so I had friends over, and we were it was super hot out, and so I think we decided to do like a water balloon fight or something. and so we we blew up all of these water balloons and started this water balloon fight, and while we were going, you and this friend pulled up with her mom, and they and she dropped you guys off. And so we started chasing In-Person: her mom and they and she dropped you guys off and so we started chasing Chad: you guys and like throwing water balloons at you and just kind of having fun, and you came up and you were like trying to grab a water balloon out of the bucket and I tried to chase you off and I had the hose at the time. And so I started running after you as fast as I could with the hose in hand, just chasing you, trying to spray you, trying to spray you and like the stream wasn't quite getting to you. And so I just kept running, running and not paying any attention to how long. that hose was or wasn't and I'm running full speed with this hose and all of a sudden I'm going but the hose runs out of room and the the hose is just completely taut and I holding on this thing tight run and squeezing this handle to to spray you and I go just straight up In-Person: going but the hose runs out of room and the the hose is just completely taut and I hold on to this thing tight, run, squeeze in this handle to to spray you and I go just straight up and boom, land right on my back, and Chad: And boom, land right on my back. and my dad was outside. He had just gotten home from work and he was watching and he laughed so hard and gave me the the you know biggest grin, like you knucklehead. and yeah. He loves to tell that story. What, twenty years later. Yeah. But I still remember like I literally can In-Person: so hard and gave me the the biggest grin like you knucklehead he loves to tell that story to this day, what, twenty years later But I still remember like I literally can Chad: remember that feeling of running out of hose and like I I don't know the physics behind it, but like I went In-Person: I don't know the physics behind it, but like I went in the air and straight down on my back. and it you know, I mean being that age it didn't hurt terribly. Now I'm Chad: in the air and straight down on my back. and it, being that age, it didn't hurt terribly. Now I'm sure I couldn't move for a week or something. But it was the funniest thing and everyone just had the best laugh over it. at my expense of course, which is is, you know, generally the case. So no, it was so much fun. And yeah, that that definitely is is a story that to this day gets shared. an embarrassing Chad story. So absolutely In-Person: was the funniest thing and just had the best laugh over it, at my expense of course, which is is, you know, generally the case. So no, it was so much fun and yeah, that that definitely is is a story that to this day gets shared, an embarrassing Chad story. So Absolutely. Chad: I so since we're reminiscing and going over our our early years, and we talked about the differences between you and I, I think everyone would like to know who is the better student? In-Person: Obviously you. That's right. I recorded this. Well, I would Chad: That's that's right. I recorded this. Well, I would say In-Person: say that I was the one who was studying. I did my homework. I got pretty good grades and I like really cared. and you didn't study, but you still got pretty good grades for the most part, I would say. So you were a good student as far as like academics go, or maybe I should say just like ability. You're you're smart. But as far as being a class pet or like listening well to your teacher and being a good student in that sense of the word, Chad: But you still got pretty good grades for the most part, I would say. So you were a good student as far as like academics go, or maybe I should say just like ability. You're you're smart. But as far as being a class pet or like listening well to your teacher and being a good student in that sense of the word, In-Person: you fell a little short. I Chad: You fell a In-Person: fell lot short. Chad: I f I fell a lot short on that. Yes, I I will admit that. Yeah, you were far more disciplined and I'm gonna study, I'm gonna do my homework, all of that, and I was far more like In-Person: Yes, I I will admit that. Yeah, you were far more disciplined and I'm gonna study, I'm gonna do my homework, all of that and I was far more like Chad: I'm not gonna use that. and so I you're right. I I tested well. I didn't get the best grades. You still got better grades overall than I did, but mostly because I just didn't do a lot of my homework and I just didn't turn it in. but test wise, we generally were pretty close or I would even sometimes, you know, beat you on tests. Yeah. In-Person: and so I you're right. I I tested well. I didn't get the best grades. You still got better grades overall than I did, but mostly because I just didn't do a lot of my homework and didn't turn it in. but test wise, we generally were pretty close or I wouldn't sometimes you know in math absolutely beat me. Yeah. Even though I studied for hours. Yeah, and I just was like I I was pretty good about just absorbing material by sitting in class, and then I didn't do anything with it until the test. so that was kind of my Chad: Yeah, and I just was like I I was pretty good about just absorbing material by sitting in class and then I didn't do anything with it until the test. and so that was kind of my approach to school. my kids, I don't recommend that. If you ever see this video, you give a hundred percent, you listen to your teacher, you do all of your homework and that yes, please. In-Person: My approach to school. my kids, I don't recommend that. If you ever see this video, you give a hundred percent to your teacher, you do all of your homework and that yes, please. Chad: it's funny In-Person: it's funny seeing as our kids are getting older to the ages of having tests and things like that, the learning styles and we're seeing A lot of Chad. Yes, we are seeing more of Chad. A mi a mix, but but yeah, yeah. You know, it's okay. It is what it is. Chad: Yes, we are seeing more of me than you. Unfortunately. Yeah. You know, it's okay. It is what it is. Okay. Do you remember what we danced to at the wedding? Like our I think so. Don't be mad if I don't. no, I think that the first song that we danced to, and I don't know the name of it, maybe, but it wasn't it that train song? Marry Me by Train. Yeah, so that was the first song we danced to. And then I'll I'll ask a question back and then just on while we're on this topic, because this is also so Marry Me, which every time I hear it I still think back to our wedding. and then another song that makes me think back to kind of us and dancing, which we're not dancers. That's just neither Their bus can dance to save our lives, guys. but we forced ourselves to every once in while. And another song that we danced to that's a memorable moment that sticks in my mind, is actually I'm not gonna say it. There's there's a song. do you know what I'm talking about? Okay. So there's a song that we danced to. Give us give us just the the you know, little snippet about that, what the build up to that and what that song is. I want to see if you can name it. So this is like one of my favorite memories of us taking In-Person: is actually I'm not gonna say it. There's there's a song. do you know what I'm talking about? Okay. So there's a song that we danced to. Give us give us just the the, you know, little snippet that, what the up to that and what that song is. I don't see if you can name it. So this is like one of my favorite memories of us dating. It was so sweet. We were actually at like a homecoming dance Chad: It was so sweet. We were actually at like a homecoming dance. In-Person: at school and Chad and I when we when he says that we dance Chad: that In-Person: together, it's like a slow dance. We There is no nothing. We do not cut it up. We are not Uncle Brian. Chad: we dance together it's like a slow dance. We there's no nothing. That's the only dance we know how to do. That's right, yeah. In-Person: We yeah, we just don't move like that. I wish wish we did a little bit. But we were at the dance and we knew we weren't gonna stay long just because it just wasn't our scene. Like we would rather just be hanging out together, watching a movie or just talking or whatever. So we left early and Chad was really sweet. My parents live on kind of like a longer Chad: stay long just because it just wasn't our scene. we would rather be hanging out together, watching a movie or just talking or whatever. So we left early and Chad was really sweet. My parents live on kind of like a long In-Person: country road, not like smack dab in the middle of a subdivision. Or anything like that, not in a neighborhood, kind of on the outskirts. And so it was kind of late at night, and he pulled to the side of the road and he put on this song, which is one of our favorites, and we started slow dancing on the side of the road. Trust me, it was safe. It was like truly like one car goes down that road. And it was called either Hear You Me or Angels. Hear You Me. Okay. Chad: And it was called either Hear You Me or Angels. Hear You Me, yep. Hear You Me? In-Person: I know who it is, but I cannot remember. Jay, it starts with a J. She's getting there. Chad: Bye. I know who it is, but I cannot remember. Jay, it's after the chat. She's getting it. In-Person: John no. I don't know. Who was it? Jimmy Eatworld. Jimmy Eat World, yes. Jimmy Eatworld, yeah. It the it was probably the only like slow song. And it's kind of a really it's kind of a really sad song, actually. Yeah, but Chad: Jimmy Eatworld. So Hear You Me from Jimmy Eat World, yeah. It was the it was probably the only slow song that I had on my sad song actu It it is. The lyrics are, yeah. But probably the only slow song I had on my like I guess iPod or iPhone or whatever we had at the time before Spotify. you know. So song that we really loved and it In-Person: Yeah. so but it was it was just a song that we really loved and it was really sweet. We just stood there and danced and it was just a moment for the two of us to share and that that's one of my favorite memories. Yeah, absolutely mine too. Remember it's this day I certainly pulled off on the side of the road, had the the headlights on and opened up the car doors so we could hear the music, you know, music and yeah, it was a very special, special dance I'll never forget. Chad: Really sweet. We just stood there and danced and it was just a moment for the two of us to share and that that's one of my favorite memories. Yeah, absolutely. Mine too. Remember it's this day, yeah. Pulled off on the side of the road, had the the headlights on and opened up the car doors so we could hear the music, and cranked up the music and yeah, it was a very special, special dance I'll never forget. In-Person: Yeah. Speaking of dances, I feel like we have to address this. What was the worst outfit both of us wore? Looking back, what was the the outfit that you just look at and you're like, what in the world were we thinking for a school dance? Okay, here's the thing, guys. I'm gonna tell you right now, I told you how much I love this. Chad: Okay, here's the thing, guys. I'm gonna tell you right now. I told you how much I love this woman. And I told you that, I was over the moon, very young, and right away for her, knew that I was gonna marry her. I am not a guy that wears pink. Okay, let me just preface this. I'm not a guy that wears pink. I wasn't in high school. I'm not to this day. I just, hey, if pink's your thing and you're a guy that wears it, good for you. do you. it's just never been my thing. And so I loved her so much that somehow she convinced me. to we did a white and pink prom you know coordinating outfit so she had this like bubblegum pink dress, big old poofy dress with like a a a pink umbrella. So if you guys have been to and seen the most recent Mario movie, it most recent, maybe it was two. I think it was most recent. Anyway, I think you're right. In-Person: coordinating outfit. So she had this bubblegum pink dress, big old poofy with a a a pink So if you guys have been to and seen the most recent Mario movie, it most recent? It was two I think it was most recent. Anyway. Quite literally Princess Peach. She was Princess Peach with with brunette hair instead of blonde hair. Like that was exactly what she looked like for this this prom. and I, being the absolutely loving boyfriend Chad: She was Princess Peach with with brunette hair inside of blonde hair. that was exactly what she looked like for this this prom. and I, being the absolutely loving boyfriend In-Person: Than I was, went along with it. and I had a white suit with a pink tie, a pink pocket square, and was there anything else in this anything? I don't think so. Yeah. It was a look. Chad: that I was, went along with it. and I had a white suit with a pink tie, a pink pocket square. And was there anything else? Am I missing anything? I don't think so. No. It was a look. In-Person: He also had a a car that accessorized really nicely. It was a white, cute little car, and he had rose petals, faux rose petals, in the back seat of the car and it was just so sweet. This man will do just about anything for me and that was a testament to it. And I look back every single day and I'm like, What in the world was I thinking? But it it's one for the memory books, that's for sure. Chad: So sweet. This man will do just about anything for me and that was a testament to it. And I look back every single day and I'm like, What in the world was I thinking? But it it's one for the memory books, that's for sure. Yep, absolutely. And I had those faux rose petals in that car until the day I sold it, I think. There was one that got shoved back. I had it along like the top by the rear view or the the back wind window and one like got In-Person: And I had those faux rose petals in that car until the day I sold it. I think there was one that got shoved back. I had it along where you earlier window. And one got all the way back in there, tucked in, and I couldn't Chad: All the way back in there, tucked in, and I couldn't get it out. I think that was there until the day I sold it. So probably six, eight years later. Yeah. at least, yeah, yeah. Yeah. That is so funny. That's funny. my goodness. In-Person: get it out. I think that was there until the day I sold it. Which was probably like six, eight years later. After that. Yeah. That is so funny. my goodness. Well, friends, thank you so much for tuning in to episode two of Dwell Well with House and Home. This has been so fun getting to kind of reminisce about our love story. It's not something we do every day. So I've loved sharing it with you and I hope that you guys have loved getting to know just a little bit more about us and our story. Next week we're shifting gears a little bit. We're going to be talking more about kind of some homemaking things. We're gonna be sharing an honest look at what it's like having a family of five, three young kids constantly moving through the house and pets and how do we keep things tidy and organized and just sharing some rhythms that we've really fallen into and that seem to be working well for us. And then maybe some pain points where we could possibly see some growth or improvement. But I think it's gonna be a great episode and I hope you'll stick around for it.
