- 1:23We do the show from the Parmar Storage studio, and it's not a Parmar
- 1:26store near you now, there will be soon, including their newest location.
- 1:30It's in Bell Valley, Ohio. That's just off I seventy seven, just
- 1:33off the Belle Valley X about thirty miles north or so of Marietta, Ohio.
- 1:37So if you happen to be in that area, just stop in and
- 1:40remember if there's not a Parmar store near you now, there will be soon.
- 1:42Coming up a little bit later on the show, we're going to introduce
- 1:45you to the new prosecuted Attorney and Putnam County Chris Rains. She's been around
- 1:49for a while. It's not an old joke because she's younger than I am,
- 1:53but she is going to join us a little bit later on to talk
- 1:55about her new role there, plus a new face at the Charleston Area Alliance
- 1:59too. It's Aaron Noon. That name probably is somewhat familiar to you if
- 2:02you watch TV news in the area. Aaron is going to join in studio
- 2:06with Nicole Christian from the Alliance a little bit later on to talk about some
- 2:08things that they have going on. Of course, the big story news wise
- 2:12is the ongoing situation with the flooding. Now we have a flash flood watch.
- 2:16It's that's been issued for this area. We're still trying to clean up
- 2:21from some rain over the weekend. But more importantly, there's something like sixty
- 2:24eight inches of rain that fell over certain areas of eastern Kanah County yesterday morning.
- 2:30We want to bring in Kannak County Comission President Kik Carper. Mister Commissioner,
- 2:32Good morning, how are you having me on? I want to emphasize
- 2:38something I want to talk about today before I talk about yesterday. Yes,
- 2:44sir, we are under a life flood watch. Now, there's a big
- 2:49difference between a warning and a watch. Yesterday was a warning and it was
- 2:53about as accurate as it could get. So we're underall watch. We've probably
- 2:58got about a sixty percent chance of some impact with rain. It's going to
- 3:02depend upon two things. Number one will be slow moving like yesterday. I
- 3:08want to come and sit on the watersheds. If it does, then we
- 3:13will have some type of a problem in the areas they've were already affected.
- 3:16If it misses the areas that were affected, goes on the other side of
- 3:20the river, or doesn't hang around very long, then we could get lucky.
- 3:25Now let me say this, thank God above that we didn't have any
- 3:30loss of life yesterday. We came close. Yeah, And I mean anytime
- 3:37you see a weather event like that, and I just certain you've been around
- 3:39Kanau County for some time. You've seen floods and high water issues. But
- 3:44to have that much rain that we had in that amount of time over park,
- 3:50basically over one area, that's almost unheard of. It is pretty much
- 3:54unheard of. A good example of that was the clenden And flood of seven
- 3:59years ago. It does happen, and when it happens, it can have
- 4:02devastating consequences. Dave, you're from southern West Virginia, Logan County. We
- 4:09just can't handle rain like that. But in my career, and I often
- 4:14when I have about fifty years experience. I've never seen nine inches of rain.
- 4:18Yeah, it was incredible. I mean again, it's just part training
- 4:24as they called it, basically just parked over one area. Let's move to
- 4:27today. So where are we now in the recovery project. Well, this
- 4:30morning at about seven thirty, Knauk County officials met with the BEAUAD that's volunteers
- 4:36of Active Disasters, met with our state counterparts and cannot think State of West
- 4:43Virginia Governor Justice enough. He had his people there one time and ready to
- 4:46work with us, also federal officials. So what's the plan. Well,
- 4:51as we sit here right now, we have some people that are still in
- 4:56very serious situation. I'll give you an example, the Midland Drive area,
- 5:01which is which is the access to Fields Creek and Winterford Holler. That road
- 5:08is just wiped out. So this morning I directed staff to begin the process
- 5:13as determining, you know what resources can the state give us. Will make
- 5:17a specific request, but we've got to do something in that area. And
- 5:21it's just emblematical of certain areas throughout the eastern part of the county. Now,
- 5:27what did we do yesterday? First of all, unlike other people,
- 5:30we used our siren system. I still can't quite get over why you would
- 5:34have a perfectly good outdoor warning system and not set at all when we certainly
- 5:40blew ours off. We used the cable interrupt we used all of our tools
- 5:46trying to get the word out as quickly as we had. Now, we
- 5:50had very little pre notice of this, practically none. I'm not blaming the
- 5:56Weather Service. I'm not blaming anyone. It was an odd weather pattern according
- 6:00to the National Weather Service, so once we were made aware of it,
- 6:03we began reacting. Before we heard from the Weather Service, we did an
- 6:10unusual thing. We declared a county emergency. I've never ordered that before that
- 6:14quick in an emergency, and we did it before anyone else. I mean,
- 6:17you could see the handwriting on the wall. When a National Weather Service
- 6:21talks about loss of life, it's a warning, not a watch. It's
- 6:27flash flood. Flash flood warning by itself is about as high as you can
- 6:32get. Flight floods mean just what it means that people are subject to losing
- 6:39their property and losing their life. So it was a serious event, and
- 6:43we took it serious. And I cannot thank our volunteer of firefighters. I
- 6:48cannot thank the City of Charleston, the mayor a good one. Thank you
- 6:53for allowing your firefighters to help. We had South Charleston, we had Fayette
- 6:57County. We had every single fire depart in Cable County. We had them
- 7:01all, had about twenty plus water rescues. We could have had a hundred
- 7:05water rescues. Now let me tell you why we didn't have a hundred.
- 7:10We have learned over the years and with a steady hand of C. W.
- 7:14Sigmund in Chief David Armstrong and our other crew is out there. We
- 7:18don't just go around and get someone out for convenience. A water rescue is
- 7:25treacherous. It can result in injury or loss of life by itself. So
- 7:30if you're above ground, above the water, you're not in imminent danger.
- 7:34We tend not to just let people out for convenience. We do it only
- 7:39as a necessity. When I say we, I'm not taking credit for what
- 7:43the volunteer fire folks do and our fire departments. They are the ones that
- 7:46risk our lives to save us. Again, we're talking with the Cana County
- 7:50Commission President KNT. Carper here on five eighty Live another governor yesterday issued and
- 7:56you kind of referenced it. There can't that state of emergency which will open
- 8:00the disaster recovery and the process of getting funds in here is that right?
- 8:03Absolutely? Governor Justice acted swiftly. He initiated a state of emergency in about
- 8:11six counties, can all included. Now what happens now, Well, we'll
- 8:16be doing what we call a windshield survey. We believe right now we've got
- 8:22at least one hundred homes significantly damaged, not destroyed, but significantly damaged.
- 8:28But let me tell you about this business. When people refer to that as
- 8:31nuisance flooding. If your house is full of mud up to your ankles and
- 8:35your air conditioner doesn't work when it's eighty five degrees, your heat pump is
- 8:41ruined, and you don't have a couple of thirteen, fourteen, fifteen thousand
- 8:46dollars sitting around to pay for it, that's big trouble for the average West
- 8:50Virginia. And we're going to try to get a disaster declaration. Frankly,
- 8:56I was disgusted with the federal government the last time they did not give a
- 9:00disaster decoration in the eastern part of the county. But we will go into
- 9:05this with our eyes wide open and try again. Commissioner H. Kent Carper.
- 9:09I'm joined here in the studio by Jeff Jenkins from the newsroom. Jeff
- 9:13was one of the ones that was out there early yesterday morning, six six
- 9:18thirty or so. And I was talking Jeff to Commissioner Carper and he said
- 9:22this, and I'm sure you'll back him up. We've never really seen anything
- 9:24like this in one specific area. Jeff, Well, we just keep having
- 9:30these. You know. That's a commissioner that's uh, that's kind of the
- 9:33thought that I keep thinking of. I mean, last year, it was
- 9:37it was small communities along along the creeks in eastern Kanak County. Uh,
- 9:43basically different communities. You know, you had Campbell's Creek and us this Creek,
- 9:48and I know Kelly's Creek did get some stuff yesterday, but it was
- 9:50it was it was more Witcher Creek and I was up Winford and Slaughter's Creek
- 9:56and Little Creek and these places, and just I know, it was like
- 10:00ten inches in less than forty eight hours, and it was just I mean,
- 10:03there was I thought, Commissioner from what I saw, and I know
- 10:05last year is bad, but I just thought. I just I think there
- 10:09appears to me that this yesterday was more damaging than last year's. It is
- 10:18more damaging, except when you lost your heat pump and your house is full
- 10:22of mud from last year, you're pretty damaged. Sure. I just,
- 10:26I just reject nuisance flooding. It's more than a nuisance. It's basically I
- 10:31mean, just when you look a flood victim in the face, and that's
- 10:35something that I have to do a lot of. And they're telling you about
- 10:39they've lost all of their positions, and Governor Justice speaks about this on a
- 10:45routine basis. They've lost their family photos, they've lost positions, things that
- 10:50are irreplaceable. They're a victim. And I just I don't know what to
- 10:56say other than at this time what we will now work with Boa, We
- 11:00will work Commissioner a Slango. Commissioner Wheeler is committed to do what we can
- 11:05for the eastern part of the county. Again, this was a serious event
- 11:11and we're not out of the woods yet. I mean, we've got the
- 11:15creeks are full, the ground is absolutely saturated. And if we have five
- 11:20six inches two three inches and it sits for a long period of time,
- 11:24we can have a reoccurrence. So we are in a state of emergency in
- 11:30Kanall County declared by Governor Justice. We're taking this about it serious and we
- 11:33know how to take it. Our people work last night till dark and even
- 11:39past that. Nine one one is on full alert, Our emergency services are
- 11:43on full alert, and we are prepared to do what is necessary to protect
- 11:46the citizens of our county. Mister Carber, I got a text here and
- 11:50I want to read this see if maybe it's something that you're aware of.
- 11:54You can put some information out there about this if you have it. The
- 11:56texts my wife's niece and nephew and their families at the bottom of Winterfred Hollowed
- 12:01lost both their houses and cars yesterday. They their spouses and children lost everything
- 12:05but their lives, thank God. And they were just waiting for the school
- 12:07bus when the flash flood started. Is there any way to improve stormwater runoff
- 12:11out of these hollows? And Texture goes on to say, my parents are
- 12:15cut off further up there because the flood took out their road. Cooper hollow
- 12:18Who do people contact to get help? Today? We contact us? Who
- 12:22else are they going to talk to? We will coordinate with Department A Transportation.
- 12:28We're doing that around the clock. But you know, the idea that
- 12:33there's some magic and I hate to say this when someone's a flood victim,
- 12:37but there's some magic solution that somehow you can just put a storm calvert in.
- 12:41I mean, this was an incredible millions of gallons of water on top
- 12:48of these mountains. Some of these mountains have had a terrible problems in the
- 12:54past with runoffs, the cause of mining activity and whatever. So you've got
- 13:00all of that. But you know, God made West Virginia beautiful state,
- 13:03but we're not good at handling a rain. And this was unprecedented. This
- 13:09is like a thousand year deals. What they're saying, thousand year flood.
- 13:13Yes, and problem with a thousand year flood. You know what a problem
- 13:16a thousand year flood is? What's that they don't wait another thousand years to
- 13:20have another. We got a five hundred year flood, they said last year.
- 13:22So I think we're I think we've had enough. Commissioner Carber, I
- 13:26appreciate you take a time out your schedule and go ahead. Let me say
- 13:31this, Yes, sir, we are. We are organizing cleaning supplies it's
- 13:33an all kind of commission will pay for that. We're not going to wait
- 13:37for FEMA. We're not going to wait for anybody else. We're in contact
- 13:41with the Governor's office. I spoke twice yesterday with the Chief Abraham, the
- 13:46governor chief of staff. We are doing everything we know to do to help
- 13:50those people. We're aware of their flight, we know their trapped. I
- 13:54was on the phone this morning with a chief segment. We are going to
- 13:56do whatever we can do to help the mister Carpet. It's a good way
- 14:01to leave it. I appreciate you taking time with the schedule beating this morning.
- 14:05Thank you, sir, H Jeff, be safe, all right,
- 14:07thank you, thank you, Commissioner. I appreciate it. Come on,
- 14:09KANDIC Commission President Ken Carpert Jeff, as I said, U, and I
- 14:13know you're real busy. We'll let you go after this, but wow,
- 14:16I mean I started hearing your reports yesterday as I was driving in and you
- 14:20came back in and you went back out there. I think one of the
- 14:22videos that that you did that I saw that was most riveting was emergency crews
- 14:28pushing some an elderly lady. I guess through the mud in a wheelchair.
- 14:33Yeah, yeah, so they had to do. They organized. There was
- 14:35about five teams there and they just did basically they were doing search and rescue
- 14:41right for people that couldn't get out. And after the water had gone down,
- 14:45so there were still you know, I walked end up walking in there
- 14:52and winter for just because the road was still closed after a few hours,
- 14:54and so walked in there and I was just basically at the very out a
- 15:00quarter of a mile up at the very first little community there, I think
- 15:03it's called Haven Drive, And you know, talked to some flood victims there
- 15:07and just people that lived there all their lives, and they just don't understand.
- 15:11They're having a difficult time understanding. They said it's rained before one one
- 15:15young guy said, you know it's rained. Uh you know official readings and
- 15:20some part of that area, uh you know, over maybe more towards Slaughter's
- 15:26Creek. But also it did impact Winterford. They had like three point seven
- 15:31inches on Saturday night, right, okay, which a lot of areas didn't
- 15:33get right exactly exactly. And then yesterday they had about six inches six point
- 15:39three inches in three hours, so that's ten inches of rain in less than
- 15:43forty eight hours. And so it was I mean, the creek came up,
- 15:46the creek got out of its banks, a little field creek there,
- 15:50but it was the runoff. It was the runoff. And now you know
- 15:56you run off at the turnpikes right up there, you know, running it
- 15:58was and off the turnpike. Even yesterday afternoon, I went back, came
- 16:02back to Charleston. I'm part of the turnpike, and it was still running
- 16:04off the turnpike. I never seen anything like that. I mean I wasn't
- 16:08driving on like you were, but I saw the pictures. I just I
- 16:11had never seen anything like that. So, you know, no loss of
- 16:14life. Very thankful that it came at like six o'clock in the morning instead
- 16:18of two o'clock in the morning, you know, when that's people are in
- 16:22bed. Yeah, typically you have problems with with the exception of the June
- 16:26twenty sixteen flood, when it was just it was in the you know,
- 16:30evening, afternoon evening, and there was a lot of deaths associated with episode.
- 16:33You know, no deaths here, but but yeah, there's property damage.
- 16:38Just it'll just and the commissioner touched on that. See if it meets
- 16:41the threshold. You know, last year, the county did not get did
- 16:45not meet the threshold for federal disaster assistance because under FEMAL rules, they weren't
- 16:51allowed they weren't allowed to count the damage to roads because those those roads get
- 16:57federal fundings. So FEMA would not let them count that, even though the
- 17:00roads were damaged on Campbell's Creek. So then there's just weren't enough homes on
- 17:04Campbell's Creek and other places in kind of get the declaration. Fat County got
- 17:10the declaration, they got public declaration, and got the infrastructure declaration because of
- 17:15the infrastructure damages in Fat County last year in the Smither's area, counton Hollow.
- 17:21So we'll see, we'll see what the numbers are. But they the
- 17:25numbers are at least around a hundred, it appears, with some significant damage
- 17:30into homes. And there's so many people, so many groups that are out
- 17:33doing things trying to you know, he talked about what the County Commission is
- 17:36doing. I also I was made aware and this is just one of many
- 17:40that I think. It's the City Hall in Chesapeake is taking donations of mops
- 17:45and buckets. This in fact, it's cleaning supplies, non perishable food,
- 17:48and I think that's going to be going on and we'll be telling you all
- 17:52about those two out that. Jeff, I appreciate you taking time to be
- 17:53here morning. And he did mention and you mentioned Cooper Hollow which is off
- 17:57of Winterford and so there, and I've sent seen some photos of there,
- 18:03and yeah, the road is basically totally gone there. I mean it's just
- 18:07a little road and it was pretty much eaten away, washed out. But
- 18:11most of those homes are kind of on a hillside, so I don't know
- 18:14how much the damage the homes got. I think some obviously in the basements
- 18:15and things, but but you can't it's hard to get there, Jeff,
- 18:19I appreciate it. Okay, thanks a lot, Jeff Jenkins. And again
- 18:22we'll have continuing coverage because we're not completely out of the woods yet. There
- 18:25is a flash slood watching effect, as Commissier Carper alluded to, and we'll

- 21:06attorney in Putnham County. It's Chris Raine. She joins us. Now,
- 21:08Chris, good morning, How are you? Good morning? How are you
- 21:11Dave? I am doing fine. Apologize for running a little bit behind this
- 21:15morning with Commissioner Carper and Jeff Jenkins. We've got to get that information out
- 21:18there. And I know I speak from all of us, all of us
- 21:21like yourself, that are residents of Putnam County. Our thoughts and prayers go
- 21:23with all those folks in eastern Kanah County this morning. Absolutely. So let's
- 21:30talk about disappointment. How did disappointment to be a prosecuting attorney of Putnam County
- 21:34come about? What's the whole process for that, and how and why were
- 21:37you picked? Well, So, I've been in Putnam County and I've worked
- 21:41for the Prosecutor's office for over fifteen years. I am at Putnam County native.
- 21:48I grew up here. I went to Marshall University. I went to
- 21:52law school out of the state for a while and started out in a large
- 21:56prosecutor's office in Akron, Ohio. But then in two thousand six I moved
- 22:00back home and did a short grant funded position with the US Attorney's Office.
- 22:07And then in two thousand and eight, Mark Sorsa gave me an opportunity to
- 22:11work in my home county and it's been the best thing that ever happened to
- 22:15me. So Mark has been appointed or was appointed by the governor to be
- 22:22the Secretary of Homeland Security, and that was something that he could not pass
- 22:27up. So I had already filed pre candidacy paperwork to run in twenty twenty
- 22:33four, so the County Commission gave me the opportunity to send in a resume
- 22:40and the interview interview process happened a couple of weeks ago, and I was
- 22:44honored to be selected. It's nine thirty. We're talking with Chris Rains again,
- 22:48who is a new prosecuted attorney in Budnham County. Give us what you
- 22:52hope to bring to the office. So my passion for child victims is the
- 23:00utmost passion for me in this office. I have worked and tried to specialize
- 23:08in the last few years. I took a lot of training and I've done
- 23:12some training with the National District Attorneys Association in helping child victims, also teach
- 23:21and help with Child First, which is a statewide organization that trains forensic interviewing
- 23:29for child abuse. So that's where my vision has turned in the last few
- 23:33years. But obviously opioids and drugs are a huge problem, not in justin
- 23:41Putnam County, but in every county. So it's going to be a delicate
- 23:45balance between trying to help these people survive their addiction and recover, and also
- 23:52to protect people and their property. A lot of times we see people come
- 23:57in where they are victims of their own children, stealing from them, pawning
- 24:04things, you know, taking things just to survive their addictions. And so
- 24:10obviously we want to help these people, but we also wanted to protect things
- 24:14that people work hard for. And there's really nothing more sad than that.
- 24:18And Chris and I think we've all seen it sometimes with it even within our
- 24:22own families, when we've seen, as you said, somebody's stealing from from
- 24:25grandma and it's not just taking their the pills out of the medicine cabin as
- 24:29it was maybe twenty years ago. There's a whole lot more to it and
- 24:32what we're seeing now, and I know you see it on a daily basis.
- 24:34This drugs scourge that we've got Chris and West Virginia is really unlike anything
- 24:40we've ever seen, because we've all you know, drugs are an issue,
- 24:42and we all realize that, I don't want to state the obvious here,
- 24:45but when you start talking about thinnel and things like that, this is a
- 24:48totally totally different ball game than drugs and years past talk about that. I
- 24:53mean, and not only is it a more powerful opiu than than just what
- 25:00we're even even in heroin, which we thought that that was the worst,
- 25:04But fentnyl is deliberately being placed in and mixed in with heroin, with mess
- 25:12with even with marijuana these days, just to get people hooked. And for
- 25:21addicts who are already opiate dependent, it gives them a more intensified high.
- 25:26I think a lot of people wonder why would why would drug dealers mix in,
- 25:30you know, a deadly substance into their drugs wouldn't kill their their customers,
- 25:37But actually, people who are opiate dependent, it gives them a stronger
- 25:41high. It's it's more addictable. But it's also more dangerous for law enforcement
- 25:48in investigating these crimes, because just a mere spec of fentinyl can be dangerous
- 25:55and deadly for law enforcement who are investigating. So that's what the real issue
- 26:00is, protecting our law enforcement while also trying to get these people to help
- 26:06they need. Well, Chris, I've known you for a long time,
- 26:08and I'll tell you what, in my humble opinion, they could not depict
- 26:11a better person for the job. I think that's praise coming from you and
- 26:17appreciate the endorsement. Well, I think you'll do a great job. Best
- 26:19of lue to you, and anytime we need just give us a call.

- 31:03are you doing great? Then go We'll start with you. And who's this
- 31:07when you brought in here with you? Member of the team. Absolutely,
- 31:11Aaron Nunn. She's our communications and events coordinator and we're excited to have her
- 31:17on board. And if the name Aaron noun sounds familiar to you, it
- 31:19should. She's got an arrest record very now, I'm kidding, I'm a
- 31:25kidding. She was a television journalist with WWK TV thirteam before joining the Alliance
- 31:30team. Now where you originally? I'm originally from like northeastern Pennsylvania, so
- 31:36like Scranton area, kind of near Philly and Hershey, yeah, that deal,
- 31:40Sonny, When you mentioned Scranton. How many Michael Scott jokes do you
- 31:42hear? Oh my gosh, that's the first thing. Everybody always says.
- 31:45It's crazy. So so what exactly a you're gonna be doing for the team.
- 31:49So I am the communications and events coordinator like Nicole had mentioned, and
- 31:53I'm just going to be basically running a lot of our press releases, social
- 31:57media, organizing a lot of events, and just helping the alliance run things
- 32:01smoothly over there. I'm really excited. We have a great team over there,
- 32:05so really happy to be on board. They do a lot of great
- 32:07things whether there. Nicole, you did good now here into the team,
- 32:09so you're already great team. It's like adding another all star, you know,
- 32:14to the team over there. And I know I can in on serious
- 32:15note, I know I can speak for you guys when I say our thoughts
- 32:19and prayers this morning are with the people in eastern Kandala County following yesterday's flooding.
- 32:23You know, it just happens so fast, and I think that's what
- 32:29happens with a lot of these natural disasters. Yeah. I mean, just
- 32:34again, not a weather guy, but I am kind of a weather geek,
- 32:37and when you put that much rain over one area for that amount of
- 32:40time, I mean just absolutely insane. You guys got some big events coming
- 32:45up, so we've got a lot of happening, Dave, a lot of
- 32:49things we're excited about. You know, programming for us is not only about
- 32:54providing value to our members or presenting interesting topics and events. It's also an
- 33:00opportunity for us to nurture innovation, foster community engagement, and really to further
- 33:06economic growth for our community. And so coming up here in the next few
- 33:12weeks, we have some great up next Charlie West that's our Young Professionals program,
- 33:16but some great professional development West. Yes, it's our Young Professionals group.
- 33:24Uh. And we we've also have a couple of elevations professional women's events
- 33:32coming up to our our network lunches and and those. You know, all
- 33:37of these programs, they're they're really designed. Everything that the Alliance does is
- 33:44to further our mission to create, you know, as far as creating a
- 33:47more prosperous Kanaw Valley and Kanawa County. So these programs help to make that
- 33:54happen. I want to talk about the Young Professionals because we hear it.
- 33:59I mean, we just came off the big event, which one we'll talk
- 34:00about a little bit in Valley Park last week. But one of the one
- 34:04of the things that you've heard for several several years. Is West Virginia's inability
- 34:08to keep to get our young people either to want to a move here from
- 34:14other areas such as what both of you did to move here, but also
- 34:19getting our home grown folks here in the Canal Valley to all over West Virginia
- 34:22for that matter, to want to stay here. And these events like this
- 34:27when you can kind of, as we used to say in the church growing
- 34:29up, fellowship one with the other, and you know, and that's a
- 34:31big part of it, guess it is a huge part of it. It's
- 34:37also making sure that our young professionals are young people know first of all,
- 34:42that they have opportunities and jobs available to them, which there are in abundance
- 34:47here, and that they're able to engage in their own communities, become active
- 34:54participants in and active members. And through the up Next Charlie West Pro program,
- 35:00we can help provide those opportunities to them, connect them with other leaders
- 35:07in the community, and you know, help them enjoy their own community.
- 35:12We have great assets here. You know, I've lived here two years now
- 35:16and I still haven't had a chance to experience everything that that there is available
- 35:22because there's so much Yeah, Yeah, indeed there is let's talk about this
- 35:25the elevations with the with the women's group talking about them. So you know,
- 35:30communities that have a lot of strong women leaders are thriving communities. And
- 35:39we're not short and strong women leaders here in the Canal Valley either either,
- 35:46And so these luncheons are are really about having an opportunity to showcase those uh,
- 35:54those women who are doing an incredible job of being leaders in our community
- 36:00and also to help you know, nurture and cultivate that among other female other
- 36:09women professionals here in the Knaw Valley, right, I mean, and that's
- 36:15so important again we talk about with the women, and we talk about with
- 36:19the with the young people. Is getting people together. Because I've been I've
- 36:22lived in different places and there are events that you go to and you look
- 36:25around and you think, well, there's nobody here like me. And and
- 36:29I don't say they're young because I'm not young anymore. But there was no
- 36:31time, Aaron, that I was young and I would go in to some
- 36:36of these different chamber events are different areas, not in this area, and
- 36:37I would walk in I think I'm the youngest person here. Yeah, there's
- 36:40there's nobody here and those those leaders of tomorrow have to come from somewhere,
- 36:46and you know, and when you started, when they're in their twenties,
- 36:50and it kind of puts forth, not to sound too much like a cliche,
- 36:53but it kind of puts forth, you know, that service over self
- 36:57that they talk about other rotaries being on that thing, you know, service
- 36:59over on that sort of thing. Absolutely. Yeah, And I think with
- 37:02up next Charlie West and a bunch of these other programs that we're doing,
- 37:07we're trying to change the narrative of West Virginia and just get people to stay
- 37:10here. And when you, like you mentioned can see a familiar face or
- 37:15somebody that looks like you at these various events, it kind of inspires you
- 37:19and lets you know that you could be a part of your community and you
- 37:22could be just as involved as some of our prominent leaders here in West Virginia.
- 37:27So exciting. I want to talk about this event we had last week
- 37:30and you kind of referenced it there in Valley Park. I was there last
- 37:32week. It was called the State of the Valley and it was a collaborative
- 37:36event with the with the Putnam County Chamber. You guys with the Charleston Area
- 37:39Alliance and also the Huntington Area Chamber as well. Sold out room at eleven
- 37:45thirty on a what day was on a Wednesday? Last week? I was
- 37:49there. I mean to get that many people in Valley Park holds about six
- 37:52seven hundred people. To get that many people in one place in the middle
- 37:55of the day on a Wednesday, sold out luncheon for some great speakers and
- 38:00and some great information. That was a That was a pretty darn good event.
- 38:05Well thanks, I'm glad you were able to join us. We were
- 38:07very, very pleased with the outcome. And you know, we when we
- 38:14went into it, Tricia, Ashley and I were putting it together and planning
- 38:17it, and we all thought, you know, this is a great event.
- 38:22It is so much more. You know, when we talk about economic
- 38:27growth and economic development, borders or there are no you know, borders.
- 38:32People don't see county lines or city boundaries. It is this whole region and
- 38:40the collaboration that we were able to demonstrate by planning the event was then I
- 38:47felt like really uh was demonstrated and came out through the panelist, you know,
- 38:54between the county commissioners and the mayors so much talk about out more opportunities
- 39:01to collaborate and working together. And for those that may have missed it,
- 39:06you had the Charleston's mayor, Amy Goodwin, had Huntington's mayor Steve Williams.
- 39:10You had Putnam County one of the three Putnam County commissioners, Andy Skidmore,
- 39:15and you also had Kelly Sabonia who's a CAVL County commissioner. And of course
- 39:19you had Ashley from the Chamber, and we had Trish from Huntington, and
- 39:23you folks were there too, and Tony Stroud, my good buddy, did
- 39:27a great job of kind of facilitating, serving as a moderator, a lot
- 39:30of a lot of good information there. Where can people learn more about any
- 39:34of the events we talked about with the Charleston Ay Alliance. Somebody you said,
- 39:37we had somebody over here this handling some of the social media stuff.
- 39:39Now any of these events we're talking about were can you learn more? The
- 39:43easiest thing to do is always go to our website at Charleston Area Alliance dot
- 39:47org. But check out our social media also. We have a weekly electronic
- 39:53newsletter we send out, but or just call our office three zero four three
- 39:59fours zero four two five three. One thing I'll mention two day. You
- 40:04know that the joint event that we had with Putnam County and Huntington last week,
- 40:13we actually had one in June where we brought all the young professional organizations
- 40:17together and it was called meet Up sixty four. Must have been why I
- 40:21wasn't invited because it was professionals. That's why. Well, I just say
- 40:25we're laying the groundwork to do more things together, and I think there's a
- 40:31lot of great stuff happening here. You know, you mentioned Mayor Gobin was
- 40:36our panelists last week. She was one of our speakers in the last several
- 40:40years. With the Elevations luncheon and our speakers coming up, we have Secretary
- 40:46Ruby in October, we have Justice Hailey Bunn just in a couple of weeks
- 40:52here in September, and those are going to be great programs. So they
- 40:57anybody can register online. They can. I'm just shure online for the upcoming
- 41:01professional development programs we have for up next Charlie West. This week we have
- 41:07won on professional Etiquette with Emily Love and in a few weeks we have a
- 41:15program about Marketing Savvy with Joe Justice, all that information, all the registration
- 41:22online. We have Facebook events so and and we have our first Tuesday that'll
- 41:28be coming up actually next Tuesday, Yeah, right off DT Prime. So
- 41:32we're looking forward to that. Lots of exciting stuff going on the alliance.
- 41:37I've got a text for you, Aaron, from a mutual friend of ours.

- 46:54and everything. But the next time, maybe I should have Greg Thomas basing
- 47:00off against Mike Pushkin. Now I'm not so sure either would agree to it.
- 47:04To be honest with you, and and hear me out on this one,
- 47:06guys, because I know what they're probably both listening to the show they
- 47:08normally are. Maybe they would agree to it. I don't know. I
- 47:12think it would be hard for either one of them to kind of keep their
- 47:15cool when challenged. With all due respect to Michael Ari Pushkin and I don't
- 47:21know what Greg's middle name is, With all due respect to them, they're
- 47:24both kind of hot heads, and I mean that they're just passionate. So
- 47:30there's probably in their line of work, probably not anything wrong with that,
- 47:31but I don't know that I would necessarily be able to maintain order there.
- 47:37So for those who didn't get text in yesterday, I am going to read
- 47:39some of the texts that are left over from yesterday. This is what Weekly
- 47:42I think calls a leftover file? Is that right? Is that what he
- 47:44calls it? To Texas? So, Dave, when you say something about
- 47:46the racial attack in Jacksonville that killed three black people, I don't know what
- 47:52you can say. It was a tragedy, racist suck. I mean,
- 47:58it was a tragedy. I mean, I don't I don't know what else
- 48:00I can I can I can say about that. Okay, I guess I
- 48:06did a better job entering text Shaester day than I thought I did. Okay,
- 48:08Texas Day, that storm was one hundred percent of manipulated by cloud seating.
- 48:14According to a texture, uh Tex says, the Chamber better be doing
- 48:21ideological tests for people it's recruiting. The West Virginia GOP and all of the
- 48:24Republican politicians have made clear they only want right wing reactionary freaks. Those only
- 48:31need apply and to live, work and play in West Virginia. According to
- 48:37a texture, texture says, how about Gret Thomas versus Mike Plan. Yeah,
- 48:43Plants, I have a plan on the show, and I need to
- 48:45Michael Plant, if you're listening to the show, get with me. I
- 48:47need to get you on the show. Mike Plan's a good dude and a
- 48:52little bit more, you know than what pushkin is so forper Delegate and Special
- 48:59Assistant to the Governor Larry Pack announcing yesterday on talk line with Dave Wilson,
- 49:02who continues to substitute those for hoppy, then he Larry Pack, not Dave,
- 49:08will be running for state treasurer next year. Now. The seat is
- 49:15currently held by Riley Moore, who will not be seeking re election. Out
- 49:21didn't instead and run for Congress. Larry Pack made that announcement on the show
- 49:25yesterday. I've been rumored for some time and a little kind of teasers were
- 49:30out there about it. But you know, Larry Pack was in the House
- 49:32and a very very successful business person. I think he sold off most of
- 49:37his business interests and then he went to work after his time in the House,
- 49:39actually ended up leaving the House to go to work for the governor as
- 49:45a special assistant when now he is going to be running for State treasurer.
- 49:49So we're going to talk to Larry Pack. So I said, he was
- 49:51on Dave Wilsons Show yesterday. He's actually gonna be on the show tomorrow to
- 49:55talk about why he is running for State treasure Also on the show tomorrow,
- 50:00Secretary of State and Google to Our Canada, Mac Warner will be here as
- 50:05well Tim Brady from the Charleston Convention and Visitors Bureau on some big events going
- 50:09on in the city. Former Chapmanville police officer Mark is deadly story posted wv
- 50:15Metro and Who's dot Com about him pled not guilty in court yesterday to the
- 50:17disappearance of police dog Chase, and I saw something somebody posted somebody posted a
- 50:24comment over the weekend on one of the stories that one of our news team
- 50:29had put up about this, and they said, all this over a dog,
- 50:32and it just made me want to literally throw my phone or my device
- 50:37like across the room. It's not just a dog, it's a police officer.
- 50:42So yeah, it's a big damn deal over this dog. It is
- 50:45because he's a police officer. Thanks says, Yeah, keep insulting conservatives Democrats,
- 50:52that will guarantee you more supported, more votes. I mean, you
- 50:54see how well that has worked so far. I think that was probably aimed
- 50:59at push. I think all right, gotta go. Thank you so much
- 51:04to Nicole Christian and Aaron New from Charleston Are Alliance for being on the show
- 51:07today. Also Canon County Commission President Kent Carper Jeff Jenkins on the show today
- 51:14as well, and our new prosecuted attorney Chris Rains and Putnam County Dale Cooper,
