Transcript
- 0:00You have arrived. Welcome to the Aspy world.
- 0:04Here's where we talk about anything and everything ASD in
- 0:07an upbeat and informative way. And now here's your man on the
- 0:11spectrum, your autism ambassador, Daniel Morgan Jones.
- 0:19So there's a new study out that says autistic people die earlier
- 0:24than non autistic people. The life expectancy for autistic
- 0:27individual, it's somewhere between 13 and 50 years old and
- 0:30that's a stagnant statistic. Guys, welcome back to the ASP
- 0:32world. My name is Dan.
- 0:33I have autism, ADHDOCD and dyslexia, and I make weekly
- 0:36videos all about this stuff. But today specifically, I'm
- 0:38doing two things. I'm answering a question which I
- 0:40put in a video yesterday. I posed a question here, seen a
- 0:43video, and today I'm going to answer that question.
- 0:44But also today I'm going to pose another question and I'm going
- 0:48to reveal more interesting information about this and how I
- 0:51can help you specifically with the videos coming out tomorrow,
- 0:55which is unlike anything I've ever done before.
- 0:56I'm just going to blow your mind now.
- 0:58Autistic individuals 80% of the time are out of work or unable
- 1:03to get work. Now this is a crazy statistic
- 1:05and I was talking about this in the last video, but in terms of
- 1:07why this happens, there are multitude of issues.
- 1:10One of the main things is that autistic individuals sometimes
- 1:14and actually a lot of the time, will lack self-confidence and
- 1:17self-awareness, self Wellness and self-confidence.
- 1:20When those things dip, you have a lack of ability to go forward
- 1:25systematically, which means if you're feeling less adequate
- 1:29than the other person, if you're feeling intimidated by the work
- 1:31you're going to present to do, then you are going to look not
- 1:36confident and you're also going to feel a lack of confidence,
- 1:38which will also spoil the job. Like if you were told to operate
- 1:41a piece of machinery. We didn't know how machinery
- 1:43worked. You'd be less confident working
- 1:45that machinery, which means that if somebody else came in and
- 1:48they were confident in using that machine, I knew about it,
- 1:50then they would be like have the upper hand to you.
- 1:53So it's all about creating confidence around the thing that
- 1:56you currently have issues with. And this is done in a multitude
- 2:00of ways. Now, specifically for work, you
- 2:03understand the machinery and the mechanics for the thing you were
- 2:05working on. You become more confident in it
- 2:07and the confident will exceed your expectations in what you
- 2:10think to be successful in that job role.
- 2:12And that is how you can do that. Now, I'm actually teaching this
- 2:15in a program and I'll speak more about that tomorrow, but
- 2:18specifically that issue is is so unbelievably easy to fix as long
- 2:24as you know what you're doing. Now, at the beginning of this
- 2:26video, I said that there's a huge statistical data piece that
- 2:29came out saying autistic individuals are going to die
- 2:32earlier. This comes from a fact that
- 2:34autistic individuals have issues with mental health issues.
- 2:38They'll have issues with communication, responsibilities
- 2:42of trying to communicate with other people, relationships,
- 2:45work, love life, children, family life, friends, circles.
- 2:49All these things will become added pressure and these things
- 2:52may topple over on top of an autistic person.
- 2:55But why are they dying early? What is the reason for this and
- 2:59is there something you can do about it?
- 3:01Now there is an in tomorrow's video, which is my last video in
- 3:05this three video sequence. I'm going to talk all about that
- 3:08and a fantastic opportunity I have for every autistic adult.
