- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn Italian with Fexingo. I am Lucas. Luna: And I am Luna. It is good to be here with you again. Lucas: It really is. We just finished our winter cabin series and our river walk. Luna: Yes. Walking along the river was so relaxing. Lucas: It was. But today we are going somewhere else entirely. Luna: Where are we going? Is it still winter? Lucas: It is very much winter. But we are not in the cabin anymore. Luna: Oh. Are we at the beach? Lucas: No. We are at a lake. A big, quiet lake in the mountains. Luna: A lake. Okay. I love lakes. They feel different from the sea. Lucas: They do. The water is usually stiller. And quieter. Luna: So what do we say about the water when it is not moving? Lucas: We use a beautiful phrase. Listen closely. Lucas: L'acqua è calma. Luna: L'acqua è calma. Lucas: Exactly. L'acqua means the water. È means is. Calma means calm. Luna: So the water is calm. Like glass. Lucas: Like glass. Let's say it again together. Lucas: L'acqua è calma. Luna: L'acqua è calma. Lucas: Perfect. Now look down at our feet. What do we see? Luna: I see mud. It is muddy here. Lucas: Right. In Italian, we have a specific word for that. Lucas: La riva è fangosa. Luna: La riva è fangosa. Lucas: Good. La riva is the bank or the shore. Fangosa means muddy. Luna: La riva è fangosa. Okay. My boots are getting dirty. Lucas: Be careful. Let's step back onto the stone path. Luna: Okay. Wow. Look at this place. It is huge. Lucas: It is. How do we say the lake is big? Lucas: Il lago è grande. Luna: Il lago è grande. Lucas: Excellent. Il lago is the lake. Grande is big. Luna: Il lago è grande. It really is. It goes on forever. Lucas: It does. So let us put these three phrases together. Lucas: L'acqua è calma. La riva è fangosa. Il lago è grande. Luna: L'acqua è calma. La riva è fangosa. Il lago è grande. Lucas: You are doing great. Now close your eyes for a second. Luna: Closing them. What do I hear? Lucas: Listen. Can you hear anything? Luna: No birds. No cars. Just... nothing. Lucas: Exactly. It is very peaceful. We can describe this feeling. Lucas: Che silenzio c'è. Luna: Che silenzio c'è. Lucas: Yes. Che means what or how. Silenzio is silence. C'è means there is. Luna: So it means how quiet it is. Or what silence there is. Lucas: Exactly. It expresses amazement at the quiet. Luna: Che silenzio c'è. I love that phrase. Lucas: It is a wonderful phrase to use when you need a break. Luna: Let me try saying all five phrases now. Luna: L'acqua è calma. La riva è fangosa. Il lago è grande. Guardo il lago. Che silenzio c'è. Lucas: Wait. You added a new one. Where did that come from? Luna: I saw it on my list. Guardo il lago. Lucas: Ah. Yes. That is a great addition. Guardo means I watch or I look at. Luna: So I am looking at the lake. Lucas: Precisely. It connects the viewer to the scene. Luna: Guardo il lago. Okay. I am ready to review them all. Lucas: Let's go slow. One by one. Lucas: The water is calm. Luna: L'acqua è calma. Lucas: The shore is muddy. Luna: La riva è fangosa. Lucas: The lake is big. Luna: Il lago è grande. Lucas: I look at the lake. Luna: Guardo il lago. Lucas: What silence there is. Luna: Che silenzio c'è. Lucas: That was perfect. You have mastered this small cluster. Luna: I feel like I am actually there. Standing by the water. Lucas: That is the goal. To make the language feel real. Luna: It feels very real. Especially with the mud and the cold air. Lucas: It does. Speaking of real, we should take a quick moment. Luna: Sure. What is on your mind? Lucas: If Fexingo has been helping you make actual progress with this language... Luna: Yeah. It really helps to have these clear steps. Lucas: We deliberately don't run ads on these episodes. Luna: That is nice. It keeps the focus on learning. Lucas: If you want to support that choice, the link is buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. Luna: Thanks for supporting the show if you can. It means a lot. Lucas: Back to the lake. Do you want to sit for a minute? Luna: Yes. But not on the mud. On the dry stones. Lucas: Smart move. Sit down. Take a breath. Luna: Okay. I am sitting. Looking out at the water. Lucas: What do you say now? Luna: Guardo il lago. L'acqua è calma. Lucas: And the silence? Luna: Che silenzio c'è. It is perfect. Lucas: It is. We can repeat this scene as many times as you like. Luna: Can we say il lago è grande one more time? Lucas: Of course. Il lago è grande. Luna: Il lago è grande. Lucas: You are getting the rhythm down nicely. Luna: I feel confident with these words now. Lucas: That is because you repeated them. Repetition is key. Luna: I will practice them while I walk home later. Lucas: That is a great idea. Find a quiet spot and say them aloud. Luna: I will. Thanks for teaching me these, Lucas. Lucas: My pleasure, Luna. And my pleasure to teach you. Luna: See you next time. Bye for now. Lucas: Bye. Keep practicing those phrases.
