- 0:06Speaker 1: Well, this is a very interesting subject for this movie. Yes, absolutely.
- 0:12Speaker 1: I clearly remember when this show was about. Yep, people
- 0:15Speaker 1: of a certain age, like we are, will remember this.
- 0:18Speaker 1: Back in the early noughties, this show, To Catch a Predator,
- 0:21Speaker 1: it was one of the most iconic shows. Like Cops,
- 0:25Speaker 1: remember that? Yeah. That sort of reality TV show. that
- 0:28Speaker 1: was just kind of coming into existence back then. It
- 0:32Speaker 1: was hosted by journalist Chris Hansen, who was an Emmy-winning
- 0:36Speaker 1: American journalist. And look, was he a bit full of himself? Yeah,
- 0:39Speaker 1: I think he probably was. Quite a bit. Quite a
- 0:41Speaker 1: bit full of himself. And so he had this concept
- 0:44Speaker 1: of basically luring potential predators into a house filled with
- 0:50Speaker 1: hidden cameras by using an adult actor pretending to be
- 0:54Speaker 1: a child. So this is pretty icky stuff. He was
- 0:56Speaker 1: after pedophiles. Exactly. And so the actors would message with
- 1:01Speaker 1: these potential predators. They would lure them into the house.
- 1:05Speaker 1: And the actor playing the kid would then make some
- 1:07Speaker 1: excuse to leave the room. And then in would walk
- 1:10Speaker 1: Chris Hansen with a camera crew to confront the predator
- 1:14Speaker 1: and basically say, oh, well, you're here for a big night.
- 1:17Speaker 1: What are your intentions? It was a current affair on steroids. Exactly.
- 1:21Speaker 1: It's so cringeworthy. But you think probably ahead of its time.
- 1:25Speaker 1: You think of... you know, all of the, I guess,
- 1:28Speaker 1: focus on the Epstein files these days, a show like
- 1:30Speaker 1: this on the internet, YouTube would just be viral content
- 1:34Speaker 1: every single week. And so this movie starring Robert Pattinson, Primetime,
- 1:39Speaker 1: is basically about how this show came about, how it
- 1:43Speaker 1: exploded in popularity, some of the things that were going
- 1:46Speaker 1: on behind the scenes in Chris Hansen's life, because he
- 1:49Speaker 1: had a pretty troubled home life with some stuff going on,
- 1:52Speaker 1: some extracurricular things that he was doing behind his wife's back.
- 1:55Speaker 1: While at the same time trying to be, you know,
- 1:57Speaker 1: I'm the most virtuous, righteous person in America catching these
- 2:01Speaker 1: people for doing the wrong thing. And Robert Pattinson is so...
- 2:04Speaker 1: So often the case, isn't it? Oh, well, that's it, right? Like,
- 2:08Speaker 1: maybe trying a bit too hard to be such a
- 2:11Speaker 1: good guy. But Robert Pattinson is incredible. He is quickly
- 2:15Speaker 1: becoming one of the most interesting actors of his generation.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Like you mentioned, you mentioned Batman, but like you go
- 2:20Speaker 1: back to when he was in Twilight and you know,
- 2:22Speaker 1: he's just a classic kind of, you know, heartthrob. Yeah. But,
- 2:25Speaker 1: but no, he's like, he's done a movie like Mickey 17.
- 2:28Speaker 1: He's the Batman. He's in the drama earlier this year
- 2:31Speaker 1: and with primetime. And then he's in June as well.
- 2:34Speaker 1: So he's in three incredible movies this year. Yeah. Um,
- 2:37Speaker 1: he's going to get Oscar buzz for sure for this. Um,
- 2:40Speaker 1: He is just, you'd actually forget you're watching Robert Pattinson.
- 2:43Speaker 1: He is so good as Chris Hansen. You've got Merritt
- 2:46Speaker 1: Weaver as well. She's one of my favorite actors. She
- 2:49Speaker 1: is his producer. I love Merritt Weaver. And she is like,
- 2:52Speaker 1: she has to deal with his diva moments, with his
- 2:54Speaker 1: weirdness because Chris Hansen is a bit weird. Oh yeah.
- 2:58Speaker 1: And so he's just so idiosyncratic, I think is the
- 3:01Speaker 1: best way to describe it. And so this, this poor
- 3:03Speaker 1: producer has to deal with all of that. But it's
- 3:05Speaker 1: not like she's an amazing person herself because she's pretty
- 3:08Speaker 1: unscrupulous and about how she wants the show to be
- 3:11Speaker 1: a success. And it's a great flashback to the time
- 3:14Speaker 1: because they were putting To Catch a Predator up against Lost,
- 3:18Speaker 1: and it was beating Lost. That's how popular this show was.
- 3:21Speaker 1: And then it ended. I won't give anything away, but
- 3:24Speaker 1: the show came to an abrupt end after an extremely
- 3:27Speaker 1: controversial moment on air when they were trying to catch
- 3:31Speaker 1: a particular predator who was a high-ranking American district attorney. Yes,
- 3:37Speaker 1: a DA. Yeah, a DA. That's a dangerous catch. Exactly.
- 3:42Speaker 1: And the interesting little addition to this film is it's
- 3:45Speaker 1: directed by Lance Oppenheim. So a lot of people maybe
- 3:47Speaker 1: have heard the buzz around a film called You Can
- 3:50Speaker 1: See Everything, the Elizabeth Holmes. So Lance Oppenheim is a
- 3:54Speaker 1: co-director of You Can See Everything. And he got his
- 3:57Speaker 1: mate Nathan Fielder, who is the one getting all the
- 4:00Speaker 1: buzz for the Elizabeth Holmes movie, to kind of watch primetime.
- 4:04Speaker 1: give some suggestions of edits, sprinkle his little magic dust
- 4:07Speaker 1: on it. So there's a lot that's really great about
- 4:09Speaker 1: this film. All right. A bit artsy-fartsy. You did mention
- 4:12Speaker 1: Oscar buzz. The chance he might hear some of this music. Well,
- 4:16Speaker 1: how many Dateline Divas with a clipboard are you giving it?
- 4:19Speaker 1: I'm going to give it four. Yeah, good. I really
- 4:22Speaker 1: enjoyed this film. It's a cracker. I'm glad because I
- 4:24Speaker 1: think he looks amazing in it. And it is such
- 4:27Speaker 1: an incredible story. Yep. Amazing piece of history. Yep.
