- 0:47Thank you. Now here are the hosts of the
- 0:50United We Scan podcast. Welcome back everybody.
- 0:53Episode 91, What's in the news? Well, as we all know, our new
- 1:00evaluations came out yesterday. I know a lot of people were
- 1:05panicked early on. There's some been a little bit
- 1:07of a delay before they finally showed up in the system.
- 1:10And the big one, there appears to be a glitch for those of you
- 1:15that have high option and you're low option or what was
- 1:20available. So hopefully that gets
- 1:23rectified. It's James and I tonight as of
- 1:27right now. Bill may be joining us later.
- 1:29He had his retirement dinner with his family and whatnot
- 1:34tonight, so he's running a little behind.
- 1:36If he pops in, great. If not, James and I are going to
- 1:39be covering a whole lot of. Information.
- 1:44Yes, I will be reading a lot tonight just to forewarn you
- 1:47guys, but this is all about, you know, your 4241 ASMS and any
- 1:54disputes and whatnots. So on that note, James, how was
- 1:58your week this week? Well, it was pretty much
- 2:02political fever in the mail today or this whole week.
- 2:07It's amazing how many Flyers we get for somebody who says they
- 2:12don't trust the Postal Service to deliver on time.
- 2:15But yeah, it was a lot of lot of political Flyers, which really
- 2:21helped my DPS count, I'll tell you that much.
- 2:24But overall, pretty much a standard week for me as it
- 2:29stands, had a retirement party or my postmaster who is done as
- 2:34of next Friday or this coming Friday.
- 2:37So we wish her well and I hope that the next person is just as
- 2:42much of a Unicorn as she was when it comes to dealing with
- 2:44carriers. And if not, I'll bury them in
- 2:47paperwork. But we were getting rains from
- 2:54the hurricane up here, very light, but still rains from the
- 2:58hurricane, tropical storm, whatever you wish to call it, by
- 3:02the time they were getting up here.
- 3:05But my, my hearts and my thoughts and prayers and goes
- 3:10out to everybody that's been affected by this.
- 3:12I know there is here an utter devastation across this country
- 3:17and I know a lot of people lost their lives out there.
- 3:20And so I, I, my heart goes out to all those people.
- 3:25I know several of my friends that are storm facers were down
- 3:30there in that a few of them were not being able to be contacted
- 3:34for several days and a couple of them still have not been
- 3:37contacted yet. We're hoping and crossing our
- 3:39fingers that they eventually are able to get contact, but I
- 3:43really, this is going to be months before anything's really
- 3:49close to being semi normal in some of those areas.
- 3:53So I really, I really feel for them this weekend, you know, I
- 3:58just hung around the house doing stuff and staying out of the
- 4:02rain. But it's pretty good.
- 4:05How about you, Kristen? Oh, if it wasn't for political
- 4:08mail I wouldn't have had much mail at all this week.
- 4:13I feel you James. I do on that one.
- 4:15Especially in the DPS. Yeah, it was a week normal for
- 4:19the most part. Monday sucked, Tuesday was next
- 4:24to nothing. Wednesday and Thursday were
- 4:28flats have been pretty heavy, which was usually it's odd in
- 4:31the middle of the month to be heavy.
- 4:32Usually get them at the beginning of the month but they
- 4:35seem to be coming in the middle of the month now so.
- 4:39But other than that it wasn't a bad week.
- 4:41Got my K day yesterday so it was nice and Ruby and the other half
- 4:45we took off and went down to Soaring Eagle Casino and went to
- 4:49a concert last night. And yeah, Ruby's first time away
- 4:53from the Little 1 and so she was in between bands Facetiming with
- 4:58her friend who was babysitting. But other than that it not a bad
- 5:03week. So it's just how it is.
- 5:07So you were off yesterday, so you didn't get your evaluation
- 5:12stuff? But I did find out that I stayed
- 5:15the same 40K, so I'm happy with that.
- 5:17I would be happier if it went up, just like everybody else
- 5:20would be happy if it went up for most people.
- 5:23But yeah, I I will get mine on Monday.
- 5:26I was off as well yesterday, but I popped into the office
- 5:30yesterday afternoon on my way past it.
- 5:32I'm heading out of town and shared I had everything printed
- 5:36out in an envelopes sealed in envelopes at everybody's cases
- 5:40that weren't there. So I popped in and grabbed it
- 5:42and Yep I stayed the same too. Still a 46 Ki lost 2 minutes and
- 5:48I went from 5458 to 5456 so not too bad there.
- 5:54And I'm pretty sure where some of that came from only because I
- 5:57was making corrections primarily for my collection compartments
- 6:02because when they initially did the mapping the first time
- 6:05around on that route, I was not the facilitator for that route
- 6:09with the now retired carrier. Our supervisor at the time did
- 6:14it and they had put all the hardships as collection
- 6:18compartments. And I finally fixed that in
- 6:21between these last two mini mail surveys.
- 6:23So that took me down from like 14 collection compartments down
- 6:29to 8. So, you know, there was a little
- 6:31bit of a loss there. I haven't compared the two
- 6:34sheets yet to see if there was anything else, but I'm not going
- 6:37to worry about two minutes, honestly.
- 6:40So yeah, I stayed the same at A46K.
- 6:43But those of you who have discrepancies, we're going to
- 6:47kind of start off with what you can dispute.
- 6:53Let me pull that up. I got everything in hard copy so
- 6:56it's easier for me to read. So if you hear paper shuffling
- 6:59around again, I apologize now. So the Rural Route Evaluation
- 7:03Dispute Process, the US Postal Service and the National Rural
- 7:08Letter Carriers Association have agreed to alternate to an
- 7:12alternate dispute resolution process in an effort to resolve
- 7:16disputes outside the formal grievance procedure following
- 7:19the implementation of rule route evaluations.
- 7:23Effective October 5th, 2024, the Rule Route Evaluation Dispute
- 7:28Process, or RREDP, as we all love those acronyms, will be
- 7:34used to address disputes where the assigned rule carrier has
- 7:38identified potential errors in the time credits provided on the
- 7:42PS Form 4241 A. This process will be used to
- 7:47resolve disputes related to the subjects below without the
- 7:51filing of grievances. The parties agree that carriers
- 7:55may dispute the following an entry of 0 or a questionable
- 8:01number in any data field on the PS Form 4241 A that would
- 8:06otherwise expect to have a time credit.
- 8:09An obvious error in any of the following data fields on the PS
- 8:14Form 4241A and those data fields would be route length, regular
- 8:20centralized or total boxes, daily dismounts, daily dismount,
- 8:25distance, collection compartments, traffic control
- 8:30points or TCP daily activities, miscellaneous time,
- 8:37miscellaneous time, sorry guys, and office walk distances.
- 8:41The Postal Service in the NRLCA will designate representatives
- 8:46at the district and area levels to review and adjudicate the
- 8:49disputes filed using this procedure.
- 8:52These representatives will work in teams of two and will consult
- 8:55with local operations personnel to include the District Delivery
- 8:58Support Specialist as necessary to review and discuss the
- 9:03dispute and further develop the supporting documentation to
- 9:06initiate a dispute. The assigned carrier and local
- 9:10management representative will complete Evaluation Dispute Form
- 9:151. While completing the form, the
- 9:18parties at the local level shall discuss the data field or fields
- 9:22in dispute and should they agree that an appropriate credit has
- 9:26not been provided, they will annotate the the form
- 9:29accordingly. Upon completion, the form with
- 9:33all relevant documents will be forward to the Manager, Labor
- 9:37Relations at the District and the NRLCA District
- 9:41Representative. This form must be submitted no
- 9:44later than Friday, October 18th, 2024.
- 9:50The Designated Representative at the district level will annotate
- 9:53the dispute on the Roll Route Evaluation Dispute Log and
- 9:57assign a District Control number.
- 9:59Before meeting with the NRLCA District Representative,
- 10:03District teams will thoroughly review all relevant factors that
- 10:07affect the credit provided in the PS Form 4241 a Data Field in
- 10:13Dispute, including any notations of agreements made by the local
- 10:17parties. The team will either agree to a
- 10:20resolution, agree to excuse me, agree no action will be taken,
- 10:26or will impass the dispute and complete the top portion of the
- 10:30Evaluation Dispute Form 2, providing an explanation for the
- 10:37final decision within 30 days of receipt at the district level.
- 10:42If the parties are not able to reach an agreement at the
- 10:45district level, Evaluation Dispute Form 1, Evaluation
- 10:50Dispute Form 2 and all supporting documentation will be
- 10:54forwarded to the Area Director, Labor Relations or their
- 10:58designee and the NRLCA Designated Representative.
- 11:03The Area Team will jointly complete a review of the file.
- 11:07The Area Team will either agree to a resolution, agree no action
- 11:11will be taken, or will impasse the dispute and complete the
- 11:15bottom portion of the Evaluation Dispute Form 2.
- 11:19If the dispute remains unresolved after the Area
- 11:23review, each team member will provide a written recommendation
- 11:27for resolution to accompany the file.
- 11:31A company of the file, Excuse me.
- 11:33A copy of the file will be forwarded to the Director,
- 11:38Contract Administration, NRLCA and the NRLCA Director, Labor
- 11:43Relations or their designees within 21 calendar days of
- 11:49receipt at the Area level. The headquarters team will
- 11:53jointly review the file and either agree to a resolution,
- 11:57agree no action will be taken or will impasse the dispute.
- 12:01The team's decision will be in writing and provided to the
- 12:05RREDP team at the area level for further dissemination.
- 12:11The parties agreed that if impasse is reached, the dispute
- 12:14will be referred to as Step 4 as an interpretive issue.
- 12:18The parties agreed to reassess the dispute process prior to the
- 12:21next rule Route evaluation effective date to determine if
- 12:25any changes would be made will be made to these procedures and
- 12:29to update the timelines for submission.
- 12:31So that is the newest. Summary So in summary, route
- 12:36length, CBU, regular, total boxes, dismounts, collections,
- 12:42TCPS, activities, miscellaneous, time and distances are the
- 12:47things you can dispute. There are timelines they can
- 12:50follow, but sometimes they extend by mutual agreement.
- 12:54And I am going to double check my my box totals compared to my
- 13:00final when I did my last mapping before I left for national is at
- 13:06690. Does seem low so I am going to
- 13:10double check those tomorrow to make sure that my LTM print out
- 13:16is correct with that 'cause that seems lower than what I actually
- 13:19had. Yeah.
- 13:21And just make sure make sure you have paperwork to back up your
- 13:26numbers. Yes, I will go over that here as
- 13:30well. The dispute process issues and
- 13:34documentation, all disputes must include a 4241, a 4241 M and the
- 13:40LTM data page. There is some more information
- 13:44in that, but I see Bill has joined us.
- 13:47Yes, I have. How are you, Bill?
- 13:51Well, you know, there's nothing worse than waiting for, you
- 13:55know, your disputes to get back from the management.
- 13:59There is waiting for a table at a restaurant on Sunday night.
- 14:04Oh my God, this, this place, Maggiano's.
- 14:08I sure because he knows about it and it is packed all the time.
- 14:12The food is wonderful. It's abundant.
- 14:15The service was just slow because of the amount of people
- 14:18in there. And my wife was sick.
- 14:21So, you know, I had to pick up the bill, my retirement and
- 14:25birthday party. I'm not sure how that works, but
- 14:28you know, anyway, I get to see the grandkids and all my sons
- 14:31and they're women. And you know, it was just nice,
- 14:35you know, to have the whole family there.
- 14:37And like I said, the food is excellent.
- 14:38So they they make a shrimp scampi and they use the, the
- 14:43smaller shrimp that which have the good flavor or not chewy or
- 14:47anything. Oh my God.
- 14:48And then the Creme Boulet. It's a kill for.
- 14:55It really is. I love a good Creme brulee.
- 14:59You know it it, you know, basically you know, 2-2 hours
- 15:02and 15 minutes dinner and it's like God, but you know, that's
- 15:07OK. It's you know, all's good.
- 15:10Everybody's home safe and everybody got their fill.
- 15:13So that's it. That's the important thing.
- 15:15How's everybody doing? We're doing good.
- 15:18How was your final week? Oh God, are you kidding me?
- 15:23They tried to kill me my last two days Thursday and Friday,
- 15:27double hampers of parcels, a political mail at the kazoo.
- 15:32The if you saw my Facebook page where I put my adopted son up
- 15:36there, He, he, he came over to me Friday with about four inches
- 15:41of political mail at 10:30. And I said, put it in the mist,
- 15:45Rose. He starts walking away.
- 15:46I said, where you going? I'm going to put it in the mist,
- 15:48Rose. I said, you wait until I leave.
- 15:50Then you put it in the mist, Rose.
- 15:51I said, 'cause I don't have to kill you the 1st last day I'm
- 15:54here, you know, he started laughing and then and he, oh,
- 15:57you're serious, aren't you? My customers, I love them.
- 16:04I, I, I almost feel like I'm abandoning family.
- 16:07There's, there's eight or nine families I'll stay in contact
- 16:10with, especially a couple of the older couples.
- 16:13And I, I just, I, I feel like I'm abandoning my family.
- 16:18I really do. It's they're, they're not going
- 16:21to get anybody like me and I'm going to notice.
- 16:23They wrote in cards to me, you know, that that you know, you're
- 16:26a character lady posted on a local next door Facebook page
- 16:32and, you know, saying that how wonderful I was and all that.
- 16:35And I told her I was going to sue her for defaming my
- 16:38character. She said, but you're a
- 16:41sweetheart. And I said, no, no, I'm an angry
- 16:43man. I'm an angry, you know, you
- 16:44know, she just, you know, she goes, no, you're not because I
- 16:48know that you're just like my husband.
- 16:49I said, yeah, don't have that soft side.
- 16:52And then I'm going to miss them. I'm going to miss the kids and
- 16:55dogs. And, you know, that's it.
- 16:58I'm, I'm, I'm not going to miss anything else about the post
- 17:01office, Dan. Well, didn't you know, I'm not
- 17:03going to miss the money because, you know, that has no bearing on
- 17:05my decision. But I'm going to miss my
- 17:09customers because they were like a second family to me.
- 17:11Completely understand that. Yeah, I, I, I, I even got a
- 17:15little teary eyed on one customer.
- 17:17I mean, you know, I've gone through, you know, her
- 17:21grandchildren getting married and births and losing her
- 17:24husband and everything and and she's just a fry 93 year old
- 17:29running around doing her yard work all the time.
- 17:31And she just you get over here and you give me a hug like you
- 17:34mean it. And yeah, that that really, you
- 17:39know, it touches your heart, really does.
- 17:42And tomorrow morning I don't have to get up.
- 17:46It's like strangest feeling. It really is.
- 17:49One can only imagine. I came in on the, on the ESN
- 17:55there with your description there.
- 17:57And, and you know, like James said, you know, make sure you
- 18:00get the paperwork because let me tell you.
- 18:05But when I explained to people about the dispute process and
- 18:08that each dispute has to be processed individually and
- 18:12they're like, well, if I have 9 disputes, I said you have 9
- 18:14dispute forms. Oh, that's not worth your time
- 18:17and effort. Remember, that's your money.
- 18:20They better make. Time and effort to file those
- 18:24disputes. Which was what I was just going
- 18:26to go over here real quick with the disputes.
- 18:31This other page that says the Rural Route Evaluation dispute
- 18:34process will be used to address disputes where the assigned
- 18:37carrier has identified potential errors.
- 18:41Local management. The carrier should discuss and
- 18:43work together to submit the necessary documentation needed
- 18:47to resolve the issue. Listed on the following pages
- 18:50are some common issues being disputed.
- 18:53We're not going to go completely over those at the moment, but
- 18:55I'm going to finish reading this and the recommended
- 18:58documentation needed at the very minimum that should accompany
- 19:01the dispute. Please remember that each item
- 19:04being disputed should be on its own dispute form along with the
- 19:08necessary documentation. The dispute and the
- 19:12documentation will be sent to the Manager of Labor Relations
- 19:15at the district level by the Postmaster and to the NRLCA
- 19:19District Representative. Only clear, legible copies
- 19:22should be provided to both parties.
- 19:25Pictures are unacceptable. Hard copy is requested.
- 19:29So when I did my disputes last time, I had 9 disputes on mine.
- 19:35And I'm going to tell everybody listening to this, when you
- 19:39dispute something, most likely they're going to say no action
- 19:45needed. Don't get discouraged by that.
- 19:49Always dispute what you believe is wrong because the only way to
- 19:54actually get this corrected is to have a paper trail of the
- 19:58mistakes. And if they continue to have the
- 20:01same mistakes over and over and over, somebody eventually is
- 20:04going to pay attention to that. Also, I would recommend that
- 20:08when you get the paperwork back to saying no action required,
- 20:12you need to talk with your representative as to how they
- 20:14made that determination. I'm currently in a situation
- 20:18where I have an active grievance for seven days of the time and
- 20:23management wants to contend that they're untimely.
- 20:27Well, there is no expiration date to the time.
- 20:31There is no allotment of the time until you present it to
- 20:34management. And with my office, we've gone
- 20:38through 1234 postmasters and three supervisors who never
- 20:44processed my Z time. My local steward, who is new, is
- 20:50unsure about it. And he's, he's trying to, you
- 20:53know, resolve my situation for under $2000, which seems to be
- 20:58the, the top limit that they'll do it locally.
- 21:00And, you know, if he does it for $1900, fine, I can't, you know,
- 21:04that that's, you know, close enough.
- 21:05I'm not worried about it. But if he comes back with, you
- 21:08know, like an offer of three days, well, then we're pushing
- 21:10it to Step 2. And then I'm going after the Dr.
- 21:14to a, you know, in regards to their approach to the whole
- 21:17situation because I'm not leaving this in the hands of
- 21:20people who are, let me say, distant from the situation.
- 21:25So, you know, make sure when you get your, you know, disputes
- 21:29back and there is, you know, no action required, talk to those
- 21:33people on on our side of the paperwork in regards to how they
- 21:37came to that arrangement. Question just came up real
- 21:39quick. Is every key term considered a
- 21:41central unit? Yes.
- 21:43So if you have 3 units together, three different key turns and
- 21:49the proper way that they should be in the DPM is each key turn
- 21:54box should be under the group mailbox grouping together, even
- 22:00though they may all be under one stop, but each grouping, each
- 22:05key turn, every box that is in that key turn should be grouped
- 22:09together under the box grouping. So we did upload if you guys are
- 22:15on our discord, I did upload the 4241 a CHEAT SHEET and as well
- 22:22as the dispute process stuff under manuals.
- 22:27I'll get them in the Facebook group eventually later on, but
- 22:30the probably today or tomorrow, we'll see.
- 22:34How did everybody get their eval eval back or not?
- 22:37Because I know our office didn't get them out.
- 22:39I got mine. I stopped in and picked it up.
- 22:42Yeah, I stayed the same. Lost 2 minutes.
- 22:44Mine was mine was printed. I was told I was a 40K for my
- 22:49postmaster but I didn't go in and get mine.
- 22:51I'll I'll get it on Monday. Yeah, I'm I'm interested just to
- 22:54see where my route and yes, Nope, it's still my route.
- 22:58It'll be my route until I die. It went up with the all the walk
- 23:03distances that we have inside the building and out to our
- 23:05vehicles, especially since the quarter mile parking lot walk
- 23:10has been contested by management since they moved the spots.
- 23:14Our local steward wants to argue.
- 23:16Well, it was during, you know, during the MMS, you know, study
- 23:22itself that they turned around and had the opportunity to
- 23:26change our distances, waited until after the mini mail survey
- 23:31changed the parking lot distances when they moved our
- 23:33vehicles. And he's arguing, well, you
- 23:35should have done that before because you had until what was
- 23:38it, the 6th September 6, you get that done.
- 23:42Yes. And so if not, they're going to,
- 23:46you know, they're going to grieve that too.
- 23:48Can't win unless you grieve it. Exactly.
- 23:50Yeah, and you know, you, if you bitch about it and don't do
- 23:53anything about it, it's on you too.
- 23:55Yeah, keep saying that. You know, people.
- 23:57People have to learn to step up. Definitely, I'm going to be
- 24:00double checking my info tomorrow.
- 24:02Like I said, I just popped in and grabbed it while I was
- 24:05there, but I will be actually going over it this week just to
- 24:11double check and make sure my numbers are correct.
- 24:13Speaking of numbers being correct, we are hearing from a
- 24:18lot of people that went through the rural route optimization as
- 24:22well as route cuts that their routes are now over inflated
- 24:29using the last 12 months data on their route because it's
- 24:33including all the information from the route before it was
- 24:38cut. So those individuals need to be
- 24:40aware that their routes are overvalued for what they have in
- 24:46the most part for some people. Some people are actually still
- 24:49overburdened even after route cuts, but some of them will most
- 24:54likely drop in the next two surveys.
- 24:57So just be aware of that coming. Yeah, as it is a 52 week rolling
- 25:02average. So yeah, those that have been
- 25:05adjusted, optimized however, especially those that have been
- 25:08cut and even new routes that have been formed from the cuts
- 25:14or added on to you may be over evaluated or even under
- 25:20evaluated in some instances. But you know, give it another
- 25:25too many mail survey cycles and it should even out to where it
- 25:28should be supposed to. And I would definitely and and
- 25:32that was something that I know that has been said in the past
- 25:37by union representation that it very well if you were cut from a
- 25:4348 to a 43, you very well could go back up under this first mini
- 25:48mail survey because it is using that previous data.
- 25:52Which is amazing to think that we have such quote UN quote
- 25:56accurate systems that supposedly they can tell us the exact value
- 26:00of each mailbox we deliver to, but yet when they cut her out
- 26:05and move those boxes around, the values don't move with the box.
- 26:08Exactly. Well.
- 26:09I'll I'll tell you what was concerning me over the last
- 26:11couple days and seeing information that people are
- 26:15posting up there that they can't compare their flats on their end
- 26:22of run report in regards to what's, you know, coming from
- 26:25the plant. The 19%, yeah, they're talking
- 26:29anywhere from, you know, a couple days to a couple weeks
- 26:32out. So, you know, the transparency
- 26:35issue is there again, how do you justify the numbers that they're
- 26:38utilizing. We are where, where can we prove
- 26:42that these numbers are accurate in any, any sense of the of the
- 26:46word of accuracy because of the fact that can't match them up
- 26:49with what you're kidding. I mean, one, one person that I
- 26:52am me that turned around and said, I for four weeks, I've
- 26:56counted my RAW, I've counted my bundles.
- 26:59You know, if you add to 19%, it doesn't work out.
- 27:02If you leave 19% off, it doesn't work out.
- 27:06How do I know I'm getting what I'm entitled to?
- 27:08And unfortunately, you don't. Yeah, that is the biggest issue,
- 27:12I believe with that as well, which and especially with the
- 27:15flats and the bundles that could affect your coverage factor #1
- 27:21because your percentage. Because as we all know, these
- 27:25GPS bread crumbs aren't always accurate when it comes to that.
- 27:29And if you don't have mail that's showing up in the
- 27:31informed visibility, IE bundled flats, raw mail and you're
- 27:37stopping at this box and that's all they had was raw mail or a
- 27:42bundled flat, then it's not always showing.
- 27:46I mean, my coverage percentage was only 71% for my regular
- 27:49boxes and 46% for my CB US. And and don't forget your raw
- 27:54flats too. I mean, especially for the CB
- 27:57us. And they sit there and say,
- 27:58well, if your first one's, you know, doesn't get any mail
- 28:01through the informed visibility or through DPS, then yeah,
- 28:05you're not getting credit. Whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa, whoa.
- 28:08That does not cover every aspect mail we received for that, you
- 28:13know, a particular address. And you, you just can't turn
- 28:17around and say, oh, this is more accurate than the old system.
- 28:21Well, this was created to to pay us for what we actually do.
- 28:25And yet management is hammering us to get the cost down to cut
- 28:30down your distances, that cut down your throat, you know, your
- 28:33casing time and everything else. I mean, it just, it's another
- 28:38money grab. And then they threw this, this
- 28:40the third money grab in there with the the optimization
- 28:43program. I was like, Oh my God, how much
- 28:46more do you need to take out of our paycheck?
- 28:49Yes. I'll say our.
- 28:49Paycheck because I still consider myself a rural carrier.
- 28:53It's it's amazing to me to think that all these managers are
- 28:57fighting to cut these routes and yet I heard from another carrier
- 29:01who has an aux route in their office that is almost to an
- 29:05underburdened route, almost underneath 40H and they won't
- 29:11put the aux route on their route because they'll lose a
- 29:14supervisor. They're more concerned about
- 29:16saving management's job than rural carrier routes.
- 29:20Drinks of that. You know, I talked about it
- 29:22before, we went from one in 20 supervisors, one supervisor per
- 29:2720 carriers, one manager per 20 carriers to one in seven, you
- 29:31know, since 1997, too many chief company.
- 29:36Exactly and transparency completely lacking across the
- 29:41board and we need information. We are in the information age.
- 29:47People are listening to those podcasts for information because
- 29:51they're not getting information from the sources.
- 29:53And we need that transparency. We need these numbers.
- 29:57We need a system telling us the values that are coming through
- 30:01our route every single day now some printed out sheet of paper.
- 30:05We need an app or a computer program or something we can
- 30:09actually access to look at to see what our values are because
- 30:13otherwise we're sitting here in the dark.
- 30:16We do the dispute process, get the no action needed, and then
- 30:21we're wondering, were we wrong on that or did they just say no
- 30:24action needed because they didn't want to actually pay us
- 30:26more money? You know, I'm finding more.
- 30:28Go ahead, go ahead. I was going to say I'm finding
- 30:32go. Ahead.
- 30:37I, I, you know, as I'm kind of perusing through stuff and I'm
- 30:40finding more Rex stuff, information that I know many
- 30:47people have not read and it is important to get on there and
- 30:52read it. One that I just came across and
- 30:55it's a USPS job aid and it's the RREX maintenance and it is
- 31:03several pages long, 13 pages long.
- 31:06I'm not going to read all 13 pages, but I'm going to read the
- 31:10first page here. This is the first page of the
- 31:13job aid, and this is important for everybody.
- 31:17The overview Rex maintenance is the ongoing process of updating,
- 31:23recertifying across AM, SDPM, and LTM.
- 31:27After first Rex mapping is complete, carriers should make
- 31:31updates based on any qualifying changes to the route to ensure
- 31:36that Rex properly credits and compensates the carrier for the
- 31:41route activity performed. Once effective, the job aid will
- 31:45provide an overview of steps on how to complete Rex maintenance,
- 31:50Qualifying route changes. Route changes that require
- 31:53completing routes Rex maintenance include not an
- 31:57exhaustive list. Adding, removing delivery
- 32:00locations to and from the route. Activating, inactivating
- 32:05seasonal delivery of specific addresses.
- 32:08Changes to the line of travel. Changes to the route longer than
- 32:1230 days. Addition or subtraction of
- 32:15dismounts to the route. Changes of vehicle type POV to
- 32:20government owned vehicle. Changes to inner unit service
- 32:23points. Additions or changes to traffic
- 32:27control points. Addition and removal of a detour
- 32:31without a change in delivery sequence.
- 32:34Some route changes require Rex maintenance updates across both
- 32:37DPDPM and LTM. Others require Rex maintenance
- 32:42updates in only LTM. The situations above that are
- 32:45marked with an asterisk next to them are those that require
- 32:48updates in only LTM, which is your traffic control points and
- 32:52your additional removal of detour without a without a
- 32:55change in delivery sequence. Check for required Rex
- 32:58maintenance at the new LTM homepage.
- 33:01Check whether DPMAMS alignment issue alert is present.
- 33:05If present, this means that at least 20 or more active
- 33:08addresses are out of sync between the most recently
- 33:11submitted DPM edit book and the latest AMS edit book sent to
- 33:15LTM, which requires Rex maintenance to resolve.
- 33:19Resequenced addresses do not count towards the 20 bucks
- 33:23threshold. Click on the alert to review a
- 33:25side by side comparison of the DPM Edit book in the AMS Edit
- 33:29book at the DPM AMS Edit Book Alignment Details page.
- 33:34This table will indicate whether an address was unchanged, added,
- 33:37inactivated, deleted, or assigned a different order
- 33:41resequenced in AMS when compared to DPM.
- 33:45This table also reflects details on complex parent child routes
- 33:50such as the source route of an address.
- 33:54So that is just the first page. I'm not going to read all 13
- 33:58pages. It goes into detail.
- 34:00I will make this one available to our Discord under manuals.
- 34:04But yeah, guys, I mean, definitely you're a Juice Paying
- 34:07member. Get on that website, go on the
- 34:10main page, click on the the Rex resources and the Rex training,
- 34:15both of those tabs. And that's where you're going to
- 34:19find a lot of good information, especially those that are
- 34:26struggling with your routes and have lost a lot of hours and
- 34:33want to do all that stuff. I mean, there's even the latest
- 34:36MDDTR release from July and some of that updates that stuff.
- 34:43That is all available to you. And it's all right on the main
- 34:47page under the tabs, you'll see the welcome tab, the members
- 34:51resources. Then you have Rex Resources and
- 34:54Rex Training in a year and a half into this.
- 34:57Come on, especially for newer carriers as well.
- 35:00It is there available to to see all of this and a lot of it.
- 35:06The the CHEAT SHEET was updated. The 4241 a CHEAT SHEET was
- 35:12updated on April 1st. The delivery point manager user
- 35:16guide was updated November of 23.
- 35:19You know, it's good does have the dates of when it was
- 35:22updated. The MDD activity scan Quick
- 35:25guide was updated May 31st of this year.
- 35:28We will be going over that in a future episode as well.
- 35:33We'll update on that. But you know the the 2024 mini
- 35:38mail survey resource page was updated August 8th.
- 35:41You know they they are keeping this updated.
- 35:44So definitely get on there and get that information.
- 35:48It's it's right there. It's available.
- 35:51And not only are are are people supposed to be on top of this
- 35:54every month, Kristen, but if if I hear one more person, I'm not
- 36:00going to mention Don Matson my name tell you that, you know,
- 36:03the decrease in in mail volume, AKA the DPS, which is not worth
- 36:08anything on a per minute basis. You need to be on these numbers
- 36:12for your flat. You know, whatever's coming in
- 36:15on these reports because of the fact that money on those flats,
- 36:18whether they're bundled flats or what, whether it's political
- 36:21mail, whether it's a local newspaper dropping things off.
- 36:25Those are the numbers that are that going to affect you greater
- 36:29than the DPS. Cause the DPS values are so low.
- 36:32You could have, you know, two trades of DPS and drop down to
- 36:36one or three trades, drop down to 1 and it wouldn't really
- 36:40marginally affect your pay because the values are so
- 36:45little. But the flats and the parcels,
- 36:48the scans, the stops he turns, the parcel lockers, the
- 36:52deliveries to the door, all those things add up.
- 36:57Yes they do. I'm so surprised to still see
- 37:00where people are dropping two and three hours after the 4th,
- 37:04you know, mini mail survey and I'm not understanding why, you
- 37:08know, there's such a dramatic drop because technically you
- 37:11could have one tray of DPS and it wouldn't affect your your
- 37:14route by hours. Well then you know, and under
- 37:17the 4241 CHEAT SHEET I which I suggest y'all go look at because
- 37:23it does tell you where your information from the A can be
- 37:26found on the M. The M is the breakdown and then
- 37:30under that CHEAT SHEET, it also has the breakdown for the M and
- 37:35where it's found on the A. I'm just going to give an
- 37:37example since I have both of mine right here with me,
- 37:41especially when it comes to package delivery.
- 37:43I want to give you guys. And this is where your your
- 37:46mapping comes into key point and where you're mapping your park
- 37:50point and your delivery point for to the door.
- 37:55And when you look at your 4241 M, it's going to say, let me
- 38:02find it under your parcels, it's going to say you're out of route
- 38:07drive. That's your mail stop to your
- 38:11parking point. And then underneath that is your
- 38:14out of route walk, which is your parking point to your delivery
- 38:18location, to your door pinpoint. I mean, when I look at mine and
- 38:22my 12 month average activity frequency, my out of route drive
- 38:27says 9168.86, my auto route walk says 2455.62.
- 38:36I mean I can look at that because my parcels on my 4241 A
- 38:40says 495 point O 8 minutes. So those are the values you
- 38:46really that really add up and that's my street volume time.
- 38:51My office time for parcels is 258 point O 7 minutes.
- 38:55I mean that, that that's how those correlate that street
- 38:58volume time with your parcels and you're verifying your mail.
- 39:02And you know, like I said, those that CHEAT SHEET, I mean,
- 39:06obviously it's kind of hard unless I was able to do a
- 39:09PowerPoint or a point presentation to record it.
- 39:13But those Cheat Sheets are available on the website.
- 39:17I just made them available for those of you that are on
- 39:19Discord. But that will tell you how your
- 39:224241 M correlates to your 4241 A totals.
- 39:27And that's why the mapping is so important on making sure that
- 39:32your your your mail stop your your mail delivery point.
- 39:36Your mailbox point is correct, as well as your park point and
- 39:41your delivery point, your to the door point, because those could
- 39:45those can make a big difference as well.
- 39:47As you know, your your load time is an average over the the exact
- 39:53time, the straight time. And then it's an average for
- 39:56your load time and your end of shift time is an average of the
- 40:01straight time of your end of shift time.
- 40:04Now think about how those can affect it.
- 40:06But your end of shift duties, I mean, that's taking emptying
- 40:10moment. You shut that truck off, you hit
- 40:12return to DU that starts your end of shift time.
- 40:16That's empty. That's unloading the truck at
- 40:18the end of when you get back. That's putting everything away.
- 40:22That's your case, maintenance. That's your your.
- 40:25Your your edit book. If you have holds going up for
- 40:30the next day, that's when I do mine.
- 40:32If I have a hold that I have the card for the next day, I'm doing
- 40:35those when I get back and putting those up under my end of
- 40:38shift. That's your mapping.
- 40:41Your mapping is supposed to be done end of shift to be built
- 40:45into your evaluation. I know there's a lot of offices
- 40:51out there who have done it during 8127 time in the morning
- 40:55or or. Under loading time.
- 40:58Under loading time, Technically it's supposed to be end of
- 41:02shift, but I mean if you're doing it under loading at least
- 41:07you're getting the time towards the evaluation.
- 41:09However, the 8127 time is not going to do anything for you for
- 41:12your evaluation and your if your office is not mapping like
- 41:17they're supposed to be doing every month, you need to contact
- 41:21your Dr. File a grievance if that's what it takes, file
- 41:26multiple grievances if it's still not getting done after the
- 41:29first one's processed, and if management's still having an
- 41:33issue, contact your Dr. and see if there is a mapping
- 41:36facilitator available to come to your office to help you get that
- 41:40assistance. Here's a Here's a comment that
- 41:43lot of officers told to go on PM casing as well, no.
- 41:47Contact. Your local representative that
- 41:50that's not the agreement. No PM casing stops your end of
- 41:55shift duties. You're end of shift time.
- 41:58You're still on the clock our. National Magazine put out the
- 42:02article. Mapping is the most important
- 42:05part of the mini mail survey. It's right there for everybody
- 42:08to read in black and white, and it explains that it's
- 42:12management's responsibility to get it done every month.
- 42:16Yes, it is important. Your driving is the biggest
- 42:23factor in your evaluation. That mapping determines your
- 42:29driving. On your evaluation, you're not
- 42:32taking care of the driving portion of your evaluation.
- 42:35You're practically cutting your route in half in evaluation.
- 42:39Yeah, those park points and to the door points are huge as well
- 42:44as making sure, yes, your, your mappings, your your, your mail
- 42:48stops those, those are big that that is, I mean that DPM and LTM
- 42:53are huge when it comes to your evaluations.
- 42:56I. Can my time question?
- 42:59Go ahead since. I don't have a BOV, are are they
- 43:03still doing line of sight travel from a mailbox to a resident?
- 43:08No. No.
- 43:11They're not. No.
- 43:12They're using. You're using the mapping, and
- 43:14it's actually the measurements between those boxes on the
- 43:17mapping that determine the drive speed between the boxes.
- 43:22So if your box is further from the box before it, then it
- 43:27should be. You could be putting yourself
- 43:29into a different speed matrix bracket, a different level on
- 43:33the speed matrix that you're missing, and the distance is.
- 43:38You're missing the point, James. James, If I have a box on the
- 43:42street and I'm delivering it to a house and it's a quarter mile
- 43:46away, but the line of sight is an eighth of a mile.
- 43:50No, there, there is no line of sight.
- 43:52It's up to 1/2 mile regardless. OK, so.
- 43:56Because like I said, I don't have APOV so.
- 43:59Yeah, we have the. Realize whether or not they're
- 44:01getting the mileage on that. No, they're not getting as it as
- 44:06it comes to mileage still any deliveries with POV.
- 44:10Your your your mileage. Your EMA calculation mileage is
- 44:14the driving of the route. Any time going down driveways to
- 44:19deliver packages is still not included in your mileage for the
- 44:23POV and. That's not right.
- 44:26Oh, and I agree. Hold on, it's not included in
- 44:29the mileage for the POV, but it is included in your route
- 44:34evaluation for out of route miles, Yes.
- 44:37So you do get some compensation on that where before we never
- 44:41got compensation for. That yeah, the outer route drive
- 44:43is where it falls under. But the outer route drive and
- 44:46then the outer route walk also gets on there too so you get
- 44:49time for walking to the door. Straight line for bulls but
- 44:53still. Cause mapping doesn't discern
- 44:55roads obviously. We found that out with our Rd.
- 44:58when it was putting it through people's backyards.
- 45:01We're across Creek Center and there's no bridge.
- 45:04Yeah. Oh, hold it.
- 45:05If you're in North Carolina, there's no roads anymore.
- 45:09Them four people. Oh my God.
- 45:11Too soon, too soon, too soon. I'll.
- 45:13Tell you, I'll tell you what I no, I'm, I'm serious.
- 45:17I I just I my heart goes out to them people.
- 45:20I I can't believe that road is gone.
- 45:22Is it route? 40 I can't believe yeah, I
- 45:25thousands are gone. Five 40s gone.
- 45:27Yep there's actually I saw just saw a picture of a road that got
- 45:32washed away just from the water running down the ditch.
- 45:36The entire 2 lanes wide gone cause of the ditch.
- 45:40It wasn't even a stream or a river, it's just the runoff from
- 45:43the road washed the road away. It's just.
- 45:47I have a friend of a friend of a friend in North Carolina.
- 45:53They were in their house when the mudslide hit.
- 45:57They were able to escape safely along with their pets, so they
- 46:03are safe, but they were in their house.
- 46:06And the picture that I saw is just absolutely devastating.
- 46:10You see this little peek through the mud, a car up against a tree
- 46:14and just imagine that they survived that and were able to
- 46:18get out with their animals is just, it's a blessing.
- 46:22So yes, my, my heart goes out to everybody that eastern
- 46:25Tennessee, western North Carolina that have been
- 46:27absolutely devastated. It's just, yeah.
- 46:32And, and the worst part is those two parts of the country never
- 46:36really saw it coming in that direction.
- 46:39They they were not ready for this.
- 46:41And it just the amount of rain that came down so fast that that
- 46:45caused the flash flooding and the mud slides and just is it,
- 46:51it's, it's heart wrenching. And not to mention failures of
- 46:55dam dams too. And even even if even if the dam
- 47:00is still standing, if the water eroded the sides of the dam and
- 47:05got around it that way, it's still considered a dam failure
- 47:07because the water is lower behind the dam than it the dam
- 47:11would hold held back. But Even so, with the amount of
- 47:13water they got with it overtopping the dam, it wouldn't
- 47:16have mattered. So it's just these people were
- 47:20completely unprepared for any of this because they've never
- 47:25considered anything like this ever happening in their area.
- 47:29I mean, they've had plans for stuff like that in their
- 47:32emergency operations center and stuff, but it's never been
- 47:35something like, oh, we get almost 2, two feet of rain in a
- 47:40single day. They never planned for that.
- 47:43It does nothing Your. Emergency operation center gets
- 47:46washed away either yeah, I. Mean through old.
- 47:48Towns just disappeared. That's that's heartbreaking.
- 47:53Or like Florida, where they got rid of getting grants for the
- 47:56emergency operation center. Yeah, yeah.
- 47:59Yeah, there really is no way to actually plan for that.
- 48:02I mean just. You can do worst case scenarios
- 48:05and emergency operations, but until it's actually truly
- 48:09happening, you can't fully prepare for the extent of it.
- 48:13You can plan for a lot of it and plan resources and things like
- 48:18that. Like I will tell you the lineman
- 48:21from up here left two days before the storm even was a
- 48:26hurricane. They were already heading down
- 48:28that way. So there's a lot of resources
- 48:31from our area from out West, from way up in Maine, all down
- 48:35in that area trying to help get this country put back together
- 48:38and at least operational so they can clean up.
- 48:42But it's going to take a long time and it could be even years
- 48:47before everything is back to full normal.
- 48:50Oh hell yeah. Oh, at least, at least it's.
- 48:55Prayers, their prayers are with them and you know, if, if you
- 48:59can, you contribute to perf so that you know, help some of the
- 49:02carriers out, you know. Goodwill.
- 49:05Red Cross, whatever, do whatever you can.
- 49:09Especially for the RCA. Yeah, yeah.
- 49:13Yeah, there's there's. Directed in that fashion, but.
- 49:16Yeah. But I can tell you that our RCA
- 49:19especially are the ones that are hit hardest by this stuff.
- 49:23There's provisions for emergencies for career
- 49:26employees, but I'm not totally versed on the ones for non
- 49:30career. But I will tell you this, out of
- 49:33everything, our rural carriers and our city carriers are the
- 49:38backbone of normalcy after these things happen.
- 49:41So once they allow us to get back to to normal work, we're
- 49:46going to be the stewards of comfort in a time of crisis by
- 49:51showing them that the Postal Service is there and it's a
- 49:56normal thing they can see. Donations to PERF can be done
- 50:01online at postalrelief.com or you can send in a check made pay
- 50:07payable to Postal Employees Relief Fund and that address is
- 50:13Postal Employees Relief Fund, PO Box 41220, Fredericksburg, VA
- 50:24two, 2404-1220 by contributing to PER for the combined Federal
- 50:31Campaign, CFC designate number 10268.
- 50:37I will post that information on both the page, the group and the
- 50:42Discord in a little bit. And the postal, the, the PERF,
- 50:46the Postal Employees Relief Fund.
- 50:48So National Disaster strike, postal employees are welcome
- 50:52sites delivering vital supplies and mail, but who takes care of
- 50:54them? Postal employees, Postal Service
- 50:57employees who are victims of national disasters, fellow
- 50:59postal employees. So I will set up and I think
- 51:05that, yeah, there is a link for that as well.
- 51:08I'll put that up there for everybody.
- 51:11And if there are any carriers out there in the affected areas
- 51:14that are listening to this and want to tell their story of what
- 51:19happened, how, how your management handled it and things
- 51:22like that, feel free to reach out to us.
- 51:25We'd love to tell your story, even.
- 51:28If it's even if you don't want to come on and talk, we
- 51:31understand. Send us an e-mail united.
- 51:34We scan podcast@gmail.com. Go ahead, send us an e-mail.
- 51:38We will be happy to read that. We'll keep you.
- 51:42You know, if you don't want your name and location out there,
- 51:44that's fine. We don't have to do that.
- 51:46But you know, definitely if you want to share that, we will be
- 51:50happy to read any emails that receive or if you want to come
- 51:55on and talk, if you're available to come on and talk, you're more
- 51:59than welcome. Just reach out to us and same
- 52:01e-mail address and we'll set something up with you and you
- 52:05can do it from your phone if you want to.
- 52:08I'll figure out a way I think I can hook up my phone to the
- 52:11sound box. I'll have to play with that a
- 52:14little bit. So even if somebody could call,
- 52:18reach out and I'll let you know for sure if I can get that
- 52:22working or not. And I maybe it will just hook up
- 52:24the phone and do it as a phone conversation as well.
- 52:28Or message they paid, message us on social media.
- 52:34We're all available to reach out to if you want to tell your
- 52:36story to us or anything that's going on concerning what
- 52:43management's doing after the storm too, because it's
- 52:47important for your stories to be heard.
- 52:49And even if, if, if there's essentials, if you have a place
- 52:53that something could be sent to. I know, you know, newborn
- 52:57clothes, we're, I mean, if there's something like that
- 53:00that's needed, that people have extras of stuff, clothing or
- 53:04anything that's been lost, you know, let us know.
- 53:07We will put something together to get stuff, addresses or
- 53:10something in PO Box. We'll, we'll help one way or
- 53:15another. We'll pull our resources.
- 53:17We'll, we all take care of each other.
- 53:18We all know that, you know, we'll figure it out.
- 53:21I mean, look at what has been done with in Florida in the past
- 53:25with hurricanes in getting people necessities.
- 53:28I mean, we reach out to everybody in the country.
- 53:30So if there's something you need that needs to be replaced, that
- 53:34can be done. We will help facilitate that.
- 53:38Not a problem, I thought it was great there was.
- 53:41A store down there, a large like most farm feeds type store and
- 53:48they, they were, they have a large parking lot and they were
- 53:51offering people, you know, places to park their RV's or
- 53:55their cars or whatever they needed to.
- 53:57They were offering them showers. They were offering food,
- 53:59everything they had clothing being donated and everything
- 54:02that's, you know, everything that's going to be free if you
- 54:05need to just, you know, give them a call.
- 54:08They they had charging stations set up all over the parking lot
- 54:12for people. It's, you know, it's nothing
- 54:14like a natural disaster. Bring out the best of people and
- 54:17the worst. But you know, the thing of it is
- 54:20that the best of people rises to the top.
- 54:22And, you know, that's one, one thing about this country is that
- 54:27we come to each other's aid. Amen to that.
- 54:30Absolutely. All right.
- 54:31Guys, do we have anything else we want to go over this evening?
- 54:35I got stuff for next week, so we're good on that.
- 54:37OK. Oh, suspense.
- 54:43Got to keep people in. Suspense to listen to the next
- 54:45episode. Right, right, right.
- 54:47You know, they went a little. Crazy when they went a little
- 54:50crazy. When we weren't on for a.
- 54:51Couple weeks, so yeah. Well, hopefully we won't have to
- 54:57do any midweek episodes or anything like that.
- 55:00So hopefully it'll be hopefully it'll be a good week this week
- 55:04and we can just do our standard episodes.
- 55:08If not, we'll be in midweek. If so, you know you never.
- 55:14Know you know, it could be anything.
- 55:17You never know. We'll do what we can when we
- 55:22can, that's for sure. That's why you always take each
- 55:25day as it. Comes because you never know
- 55:26what tomorrow brings. Absolutely.
- 55:30And somebody says to me, I. Remember to tell everybody that
- 55:33you love, that you love them because tomorrow's not promised
- 55:36to anybody. Yeah.
- 55:38Ain't nothing like hugging your grown ass sons on your
- 55:41retirement birthday party and telling them that you love them,
- 55:44you know? Yeah, one of.
- 55:47Those things that you know you don't.
- 55:49Know, like I had, I had a customer, 93 years old, him and
- 55:55his wife were in the kitchen Monday and they're preparing
- 55:58dinner and he heard a thud. He turns around and she's on the
- 56:01floor and passed away. It's just, you know, one day
- 56:05they're there, one day they're not.
- 56:06And you know, don't take every any any day for granted.
- 56:10Absolutely no, you can't take any day.
- 56:12For granted. That's right, Mr. Johnson, if
- 56:14you don't feel safe. Turn around.
- 56:16Yep, your safety is the. Number one priority for
- 56:19everybody. Yep.
- 56:21And once you hit that street? Safety is your call as a carrier
- 56:25and that's what that Form 1767 is for.
- 56:28When you get back to the office, don't ever, don't ever risk.
- 56:32Your life for a piece of paper or an Amazon package?
- 56:36Not worth it because they'll replace the Amazon package but
- 56:39your family can't replace you. And remember if.
- 56:42Something doesn't feel right. If you're uncomfortable for half
- 56:47a second about something, that's when you make the decision to
- 56:50turn around because that is the moment where you know you're
- 56:54either going to make a critical mistake or you're going to make
- 56:56the right decision. I could tell you some stuff from
- 56:59my life that let me tell you, it just takes a moment to turn
- 57:05wrong. Turn left instead of turn right
- 57:08and you don't know what you're stepping into.
- 57:10So if the hairs on the back of your neck or if your gut starts,
- 57:14you know, boiling over, you get a little queasy, that's when you
- 57:18need to make that U-turn and go back, yes.
- 57:23And that includes delivering to a house if something feels off
- 57:27as you're headed into the house, stop.
- 57:29Don't go up that driveway. Leave a notice.
- 57:32Yeah, you reminded me of something.
- 57:35We did have a letter carrier, Scott in Wisconsin for
- 57:42delivering the person's political candidates
- 57:46opposition's advertisement. Oh my God, yes.
- 57:51And this is that time of year where people's opinions get very
- 57:59opinionated and that person is going to go away for life and
- 58:08the carrier survive. Just so you guys are clear,
- 58:11carrier survive. But that's a risk we take every
- 58:14single day out here. And we cannot wait for them to
- 58:17pass this bill. Protect our letter, protect our
- 58:20letter Carriers Act because stuff like this has to stop.
- 58:24These are just people running for a position.
- 58:27They aren't life and death. They aren't the end of the
- 58:29world. They're just people and we're
- 58:32just doing the jobs. Delivering what's?
- 58:34Addressed to the. Address no matter what position
- 58:38you are. Running for No matter what you
- 58:40are doing in this situation, you are still just a person.
- 58:44You can have your opinions, but you should not use violence to
- 58:49push your opinions. No matter no matter what you
- 58:52think about the other people, it's just not right.
- 58:56You shouldn't be. I just I'm.
- 58:59I'm a I'm beside myself that somebody would take a 10 cent
- 59:04Mailer and use that as an excuse to try to take somebody's life
- 59:10and all we were and all they were doing.
- 59:12Was doing their job of delivering the mail, what they
- 59:14were paid to do and the person. Paid for that flyer to go to
- 59:17that person's house. Whoever the the agency was, that
- 59:21paid for. It this is a scenario where that
- 59:25person, instead of pulling a trigger, should have just took
- 59:29it and threw it away, Yeah, you know, it's not the carrier.
- 59:33'S it's not the. Carrier's fault and
- 59:36unfortunately you know it it it is sad.
- 59:39Thankfully they survived, but they will forever be changed.
- 59:42They might not ever come back to work because.
- 59:45Of it because I can tell you the fear, the fear of going back to
- 59:51that route specifically in that office, even that office maybe,
- 59:56but that route specifically will most likely cause them post
- 1:00:00traumatic stress and they may never work the route again.
- 1:00:05And if they're the ones assigned to that route and management
- 1:00:07says, well, we can't take you off that route because that's
- 1:00:09what you're assigned and there's no other option that person will
- 1:00:13have to because of PTSD. We'll have to take disability
- 1:00:17retirement due to PTSD. And that was up what I was going
- 1:00:20to point out to you. James, I mean, there are so many
- 1:00:23situations where your carriers have been attacked by dogs and
- 1:00:27mawed and can't go back onto the route that they served.
- 1:00:31You know, they can't go back to a route period, because they go
- 1:00:35to a new route. They don't know the dogs on that
- 1:00:38route and they don't know how they're going to react.
- 1:00:40Or, you know, in the situation that we had where a carrier
- 1:00:44struck and killed a small child and he, he lost it.
- 1:00:50He, he just, he, he mentally lost it and could not get back
- 1:00:55in the vehicle. I went back in the same way.
- 1:00:58You know, he actually, you know, chased up his.
- 1:01:00Route one day after, you know, being off probably two or three
- 1:01:04weeks and all aced up his vehicle, pulled it down and went
- 1:01:08down to the, you know, to the truck, opened it up and realized
- 1:01:12if he went out there, he was going to go on on the route
- 1:01:14where he killed it and he just lost it right there in the
- 1:01:16parking lot. I mean, I, I'll tell you what,
- 1:01:19you know, I might be angry, Bill, but there, there's no way
- 1:01:23I, I could go back out there if I ever killed a child.
- 1:01:26No, no, I couldn't. You know, I, I don't know how
- 1:01:29you, you know, live with, you know yourself, let alone try to
- 1:01:32go back to your job after that, even if it wasn't your fault.
- 1:01:36Yeah, and it wasn't. It wasn't.
- 1:01:39It wasn't, it's their fault and you know, but you can't bring
- 1:01:43that child back. And whether it's your fault or
- 1:01:45not. And you, you know, you've owned
- 1:01:48that responsibility even though it wasn't yours.
- 1:01:52And God, God, you know, help you if it ever happens because you
- 1:01:56know, an old fart like me, OK, he deserves to die.
- 1:02:00But but you know a four year old child.
- 1:02:02No, I can say that I. I, I I.
- 1:02:06Qualify as an old fart now since I'm retired, don't worry.
- 1:02:11Don't worry that your Walker. 'S in the mail, but it's got to
- 1:02:14go through Palmetto that that's oh, thanks a lot I.
- 1:02:18Won't see it for five years, so I have at least five years to
- 1:02:21live waiting. For my Walker, sorry I had to
- 1:02:26finish. This on a little bit.
- 1:02:27More positive note because but so I just got an update on the
- 1:02:34rain volume that was dumped over the United States approximately
- 1:02:39during this hurricane. 40 trillion gallons of water.
- 1:02:44To give you an idea of what it would be, it would fill
- 1:02:47approximately 60 million Olympic size swimming pools.
- 1:02:53If you were to put the water in a football field size area it
- 1:02:57would be 1800 feet deep. 40 trillion gallon could supply
- 1:03:04over 1.3 billion people with water for a year.
- 1:03:10The state of Texas would be covered in three feet of water
- 1:03:14and it could fill Lake MI more than 18 times.
- 1:03:20That's how much water was dumped by this system.
- 1:03:23Wow, that's a lot of water. In in a very short amount of
- 1:03:26time, yes. Yeah.
- 1:03:28Yes. And and technically.
- 1:03:31Considering the area, it was in a very small area.
- 1:03:35I mean, you're considering the state of Texas, 3 feet of water
- 1:03:39and some areas recorded 2 feet of rainwater at least.
- 1:03:42Yeah, that's amazing. That just came across my news
- 1:03:47feed. Mother Nature is a bitch.
- 1:03:50And that was all. That was one. 100.
- 1:03:55Percent Gulf of Mexico water water that evaporated out of the
- 1:04:00Gulf of Mexico that means the Gulf of Mexico is. 6 feet
- 1:04:04shallower. Well, you got the Atlantic Ocean
- 1:04:07feeding into. It for the ocean added to that
- 1:04:09so you're probably looking at about a foot lower yeah, yeah,
- 1:04:14but yeah, that's. A.
- 1:04:15Lot of water, and now it's all making its way back to the
- 1:04:18Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf of Mexico from the mountains.
- 1:04:22All right, guys, time to wind this down.
- 1:04:24Tonight sounds like a plan. Go for it.
- 1:04:27James Hell. Pay attention.
- 1:04:29To your numbers. Pay attention to what management
- 1:04:32is doing. Do your mapping.
- 1:04:35We keep pushing this, so does our union national office keeps
- 1:04:41pushing. Do your mapping.
- 1:04:43It's the most important part of your evaluation.
- 1:04:47Aside from the numbers of mail that you get in packages and
- 1:04:52stuff. Mapping is the most important
- 1:04:55thing that you can control. You control where the mailbox is
- 1:05:01placed, you control where the park point is, the door
- 1:05:05delivery, and sometimes the mail stop if it's a dismount
- 1:05:09location. But mapping is integral to your
- 1:05:13evaluation and it's part of your end of shift duties.
- 1:05:17Very management and paperwork. If they will not let you map, it
- 1:05:24doesn't matter if you have no changes to your route
- 1:05:27whatsoever. You need to do your mapping.
- 1:05:31Because like I found and grieved in my office that the system is
- 1:05:37changing houses vacant when I get pars labels so I grieved it.
- 1:05:43Pay attention to your mapping. It's not just your vacant, it's
- 1:05:46also active. It'll turn boxes active.
- 1:05:50If you get a first class letter for the address, even if the
- 1:05:53house is vacant and you're sending it back to to the
- 1:05:57sender, you're returning it to the sender.
- 1:05:59It's marking it active. That'll affect your coverage
- 1:06:03factor because if you're only getting that one piece for the
- 1:06:07year, your coverage factor is going to go down.
- 1:06:10So you got to pay attention to all your addresses in your
- 1:06:14mapping. Make sure you're delivering to
- 1:06:16the door every day because it will move your door delivery
- 1:06:20location. I found this out as well myself.
- 1:06:23It's moved my door delivery location, especially if I
- 1:06:27sometimes put it at the covered porch or at the garage depending
- 1:06:31on whichever the customer wants me to do.
- 1:06:33It'll change that location if you do it.
- 1:06:35Scan it further up the driveway or up the sidewalk a little bit
- 1:06:39from the front door. Pay attention to your mapping.
- 1:06:43Pay attention to your traffic points because if you are not
- 1:06:47delivering to a location for a while, it may cut off that
- 1:06:51section. So if you have a road that you
- 1:06:53don't go down and say the winter time, it may cut it off.
- 1:06:56Pay attention to it. Mapping is very important.
- 1:06:59Your numbers are in. Management should have gotten
- 1:07:02them to you Saturday. They didn't.
- 1:07:04They need to get them to you Monday.
- 1:07:06If they do not have them Monday when you ask, file a grievance.
- 1:07:10They should have been printed Saturday and they're going to
- 1:07:13argue, oh, it wasn't available in the morning.
- 1:07:15It was available after 11:00 AM for everybody.
- 1:07:19They rolled out two offices slowly between 8:00 and 11:00 to
- 1:07:23try and not overburden the system.
- 1:07:25So should have been there. Be safe out there.
- 1:07:29Everybody. Stand together, stand united.
- 1:07:32Because when we stand together, we show management we're all in
- 1:07:36this together. Bill.
- 1:07:37Well, I'd like to say I'm retired.
- 1:07:39And don't give a shit and have nothing to contribute.
- 1:07:42But that's not how I am. I'm still involved.
- 1:07:46I'll, I'll still be helping my local office and other areas
- 1:07:53around the area, even though I'm not a steward.
- 1:07:56But the fact of the matter is they can't do nothing to me.
- 1:07:59So screw them because that's one of the things I do.
- 1:08:03I help people and I will continue to, as long as I'm
- 1:08:07involved in union and I'll be involved with our local union,
- 1:08:10our state union and maybe even the convention next year.
- 1:08:13I don't know. I yeah, I haven't decided yet,
- 1:08:15but we'll be involved with this podcast and my people and my
- 1:08:20customers, everybody listening because of the fact that, you
- 1:08:24know, might be an asshole, but I'm a caring asshole and I'm the
- 1:08:29best asshole I can be, you know, for the carrier's sake, because
- 1:08:33that's, you know, they're, you're, you're all the people
- 1:08:35that I care about. And, you know, it's touched me
- 1:08:38over the years, all the condolences and congratulations.
- 1:08:42And you know, I like I said, I feel like I've abandoned my
- 1:08:45customers thing, you know, to some unknown entity that's not
- 1:08:49going to serve them like me and they won't because there's only
- 1:08:53one bill made. So remember, you know, you are
- 1:08:56the most important delivery of the day home safely to your
- 1:08:59loved one. And you know, just you know,
- 1:09:03send a prayer to out to all our brothers and sisters in the
- 1:09:07states have been affected by this hurricane.
- 1:09:09They're going to need it, especially like James said, the
- 1:09:12RC as thank you guys. It's.
- 1:09:15Been it's been a week and definitely my heart goes out to
- 1:09:19everybody affected by the hurricane.
- 1:09:22Touching on what James was saying with watching your boxes
- 1:09:25and stuff. When you turn your edit books in
- 1:09:27each month you can request new edit sheets, and when you get
- 1:09:32new edit sheets, compare them with your active boxes and your
- 1:09:36inactive boxes to your prior edit sheets.
- 1:09:40Before you replace them in the book, take a look at them and
- 1:09:43see if something's been deactivated that shouldn't have
- 1:09:46been. Definitely look in it.
- 1:09:49You know, double check when you get new edit sheets, double
- 1:09:51check them against the old ones to make sure that they are
- 1:09:54correct. Because that's going to be the
- 1:09:56first time we, I had a route in my office that had four of them
- 1:09:58that were as inactive. He never inactivated those ever.
- 1:10:03And I said, did you check your edit sheets?
- 1:10:04And he's like, no, I haven't. Is it double check them, get new
- 1:10:08edit sheets and double check them.
- 1:10:10So definitely pay attention to that as well.
- 1:10:12End of shift duties, guys, do it on end of shift duties.
