- 0:00Speaker 1: Here with Gino, We're just when we asked her.
- 0:02Speaker 2: That was totally an amazing individual play by her, and
- 0:07Speaker 2: I had nothing to do with it. And I'm not
- 0:09Speaker 2: happy that I'm not on the record books as having
- 0:12Speaker 2: drawn that up. Just for the rate I want to fix.
- 0:13Speaker 2: I want to put that on the record.
- 0:16Speaker 1: Just for the radio folks at home. We were talking
- 0:17Speaker 1: about the Broncos Patriots, how the weather change in the
- 0:20Speaker 1: second half, and Gino brought up the leaky roof in
- 0:23Speaker 1: the One Big East tournament against Wreckers, and then the
- 0:25Speaker 1: next night was the famous bird at the Buzzer game,
- 0:28Speaker 1: So that's the reference there.
- 0:30Speaker 3: She turned out.
- 0:30Speaker 1: Okay, there's a lot of great players of that game.
- 0:33Speaker 2: Didn't she didn't she make a shot at halftime, Yes,
- 0:36Speaker 2: in that same way.
- 0:37Speaker 3: Like half the buzz Yeah.
- 0:40Speaker 2: So it was birded at the Buzzers that she made
- 0:42Speaker 2: the first one and then she made another one.
- 0:44Speaker 3: Right.
- 0:44Speaker 1: That turned into a book too. Jeff Goldberg, former a
- 0:46Speaker 1: Beat writer, turned that into a book.
- 0:48Speaker 3: Uh, tenn.
- 0:49Speaker 2: There was nothing in there about me setting up that play.
- 0:53Speaker 3: And where did you set that up?
- 0:54Speaker 1: Where you got early.
- 0:55Speaker 2: In the season, I said, listen, he went shooting a
- 0:57Speaker 2: free throw and we need a bucket and exactly how
- 1:01Speaker 2: it happens when set a screen for Sue's who came
- 1:03Speaker 2: off got the ball, went down and made it and
- 1:06Speaker 2: I was like yes, and you know, like anything else?
- 1:10Speaker 2: Which year you know behind every man is a great woman?
- 1:14Speaker 2: Well taking all the credit?
- 1:15Speaker 3: There you go, there you go.
- 1:18Speaker 2: My wife doesn't do that to me, yere fortune and
- 1:22Speaker 2: one mine doesn't either.
- 1:24Speaker 3: Yeah. See, so we're too lucky.
- 1:25Speaker 2: Guys. Which year is She's sitting right up there, that's
- 1:28Speaker 2: what I'm supposed.
- 1:29Speaker 1: To say, Well, she's the boss missus an we love
- 1:30Speaker 1: missus A. Two thousand was the year you guys went
- 1:33Speaker 1: to Europe and I forget where because I know we did.
- 1:38Speaker 3: I know Joe did the games. We actually went and
- 1:40Speaker 3: did a couple of the games.
- 1:41Speaker 1: But all the back door cuts that you had against
- 1:44Speaker 1: Tennessee in the championship game that year in Philly, I
- 1:47Speaker 1: think was a product of that, wasn't it?
- 1:49Speaker 3: Like going to Europe and working on that stuff, that was.
- 1:52Speaker 2: A big part of it. We had lost in in
- 2:01Speaker 2: nineteen ninety nine. It was really really really bad because
- 2:06Speaker 2: we had some injuries. You know, Sue got hurt and
- 2:08Speaker 2: we didn't have we didn't have good guard play.
- 2:11Speaker 3: Yeah, I Alway State Beach, Cincina.
- 2:13Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah. The two people that shoot the ball every
- 2:17Speaker 2: time they touch it, it's Atlanta and Shay were bringing
- 2:21Speaker 2: the ball up the floor for us. Who do you
- 2:23Speaker 2: think they were going to pass it to nobody? So
- 2:27Speaker 2: we our guard play was all screwed up. So when
- 2:30Speaker 2: we went over to Italy, I remember we were on
- 2:33Speaker 2: an outdoor court, blacktop, and we only had one basket
- 2:39Speaker 2: because there was a kid at another basket. It was
- 2:42Speaker 2: just shooting baskets, and so we only had half court
- 2:45Speaker 2: and it had to be one hundred degrees in Italy
- 2:49Speaker 2: in August on that blacktop, and I made them stay
- 2:53Speaker 2: there for like an hour, and they were dying, and
- 2:55Speaker 2: we did the same thing over and over and over
- 2:58Speaker 2: and over and over again. And you know, it felt
- 3:02Speaker 2: like when when these rookies were were doing training camp
- 3:09Speaker 2: with the Packers and and it got dark and one
- 3:13Speaker 2: of the rookies they asked Jack Kramer. He said, man,
- 3:16Speaker 2: I'm tired. He said, when are we going to stop?
- 3:20Speaker 2: And Jack Kramer pointed to the Lombardi and said when
- 3:23Speaker 2: he's tired. And I think they were dying. And I
- 3:27Speaker 2: just sit there and do it again, do it again,
- 3:31Speaker 2: do it again, do it again.
- 3:32Speaker 3: Sounds like Herb Brooks. Do the Herbies, just do it again?
- 3:35Speaker 2: And and then we we played Tennessee in the National
- 3:39Speaker 2: Championship game, and they could they could run that offense
- 3:43Speaker 2: with their eyes closed, and it was laying up, lay up,
- 3:45Speaker 2: play up, play up. Play.
- 3:46Speaker 3: Absolutely smoked them that late. Absolutely.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 3:49Speaker 1: Well, this Tennessee team is coming off at fourteen and
- 3:53Speaker 1: four coming off probably they're poorest performance of the season
- 3:57Speaker 1: against Mississippi State last night. They shot just thirty one.
- 4:01Speaker 1: Lot of laps missed that game. Both teams missed a
- 4:03Speaker 1: tunn of labs. But one thing they do well and
- 4:07Speaker 1: answer your question, yes.
- 4:09Speaker 2: Like when you go to work and you constantly screw
- 4:13Speaker 2: something up, doesn't your boss call you in and go listen,
- 4:17Speaker 2: I'm giving you fair warning. If this keeps up, we're
- 4:20Speaker 2: gonna have to find a replacement. So, if you're a
- 4:24Speaker 2: semi professional basketball player playing college basketball today and you
- 4:29Speaker 2: can't make a layup on a regular basis, shouldn't there
- 4:32Speaker 2: be some sort of consequences there? Yes, But shouldn't I
- 4:37Speaker 2: have the ability to call her in the office and
- 4:40Speaker 2: go over like a quarterly report and demote them or something,
- 4:46Speaker 2: or change departments, like put them on the volleyball team
- 4:51Speaker 2: or something.
- 4:52Speaker 1: Yeah, I watched the second half of that game last night.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Some were contested, but some were just ugh ugly. But
- 4:58Speaker 1: one thing Tennessee does, and they've done it well for years,
- 5:02Speaker 1: they get after it the glass.
- 5:04Speaker 2: Yeah yeah, yeah, they play. They play a style of
- 5:08Speaker 2: play that is a risk reward. The risk is the
- 5:15Speaker 2: reward is unbelievable.
- 5:17Speaker 3: They do that. They force a lot of turnovers, and
- 5:19Speaker 3: the risk.
- 5:19Speaker 2: Is they're gonna get there. They're not gonna be able
- 5:23Speaker 2: to win long term. So you have to manage that
- 5:29Speaker 2: as as a team. You have to all the risks
- 5:32Speaker 2: that they take defensively, you have to make them. You
- 5:37Speaker 2: have to make them pay for that. If all the
- 5:39Speaker 2: risks they take they came up, they come up aces,
- 5:44Speaker 2: then you're in for a long night. Like last year.
- 5:47Speaker 2: Last year, we we should have won. If you look
- 5:51Speaker 2: at the statue, thank you, excuse me, I got the one.
- 5:54Speaker 2: I got the one the varsity gets. Now it brought
- 5:56Speaker 2: me to JV one last time.
- 6:00Speaker 1: See he didn't even he didn't even need it talking
- 6:02Speaker 1: to no.
- 6:05Speaker 3: Early.
- 6:06Speaker 2: When you look at the statue from last year's game.
- 6:09Speaker 2: We won in every category except we got out rebounded.
- 6:15Speaker 2: But what really hurt us was defensively, we couldn't keep
- 6:19Speaker 2: them out of the lane and get into the basket,
- 6:22Speaker 2: so we had They had more turnovers than us. We
- 6:26Speaker 2: made more threes than them, We shot more free throws
- 6:29Speaker 2: than them. You know, we have more assists than them.
- 6:32Speaker 2: Blah blah blah blah blah. But it comes down to
- 6:38Speaker 2: when you need some rebounds, you got to get them.
- 6:40Speaker 2: And that's what worries me going in Sunday. Sarah Williams,
- 6:44Speaker 2: I hope she's fine. You know, Blanca helps us a
- 6:50Speaker 2: little bit in that area. So you know, Sarah, Jenna,
- 6:56Speaker 2: Sarah Strong and our guards are going to have to
- 6:59Speaker 2: really really do a ach ab rebounding the ball. Yeah,
- 7:01Speaker 2: that's what it's going to come down to.
- 7:03Speaker 3: And if you make some shots, it takes all the pressure.
- 7:04Speaker 2: Yeah, and then you've got to make You've got to
- 7:06Speaker 2: make shots, you know, I mean they shot I think
- 7:10Speaker 2: they averaged thirty to three point attempts per game, Yes,
- 7:15Speaker 2: thirty two is it thirty two, thirty one, thirty one? Yeah,
- 7:18Speaker 2: my coaches would be impressed.
- 7:20Speaker 1: And I know there's stats nine of thirty one nine
- 7:22Speaker 1: rige per game.
- 7:23Speaker 2: Okay, nine for thirty one? What are we nine for what?
- 7:27Speaker 3: Let's see.
- 7:28Speaker 1: Now, you've taken almost almost as many. They've taken five
- 7:31Speaker 1: sixty four in eighteen games. You've taken five thirty seven
- 7:37Speaker 1: and twenty two so less way. We've taken way less
- 7:40Speaker 1: than that, and you're making percent. You're made more. They've
- 7:43Speaker 1: made one ninety one sixty nine. You've made two eleven.
- 7:46Speaker 1: So that's average about ten a game.
- 7:48Speaker 2: So we've made we've taken less, made more.
- 7:52Speaker 3: That's the efficiency part.
- 7:53Speaker 2: So if we can do that on Sunday, then we're
- 7:55Speaker 2: going to win the game. Playing it simple.
- 7:58Speaker 1: Some of their threes, do they forst those threes up?
- 8:01Speaker 1: Are they like good looks? Because I know one thing
- 8:03Speaker 1: that you've always done defensively, you force teams into taken
- 8:06Speaker 1: bad shots. When you do that, you're in good shape.
- 8:08Speaker 2: You know, I don't listen when you play like that,
- 8:14Speaker 2: there are no bad threes in their mind because that's
- 8:17Speaker 2: what they're trying to do.
- 8:18Speaker 3: That kind of like the Paul used to do.
- 8:20Speaker 2: Yeah, kind of like what the Paul used to do.
- 8:24Speaker 2: They they feel like because they're such a good rebounding team,
- 8:29Speaker 2: they can afford to take some of those shots, right
- 8:32Speaker 2: because they feel like, listen, if you shoot thirty percent
- 8:35Speaker 2: from the floor and then you get the rebound and
- 8:39Speaker 2: then make that layup, now you're not shooting thirty percent
- 8:42Speaker 2: from the floor on that possession, you're shooting fifty percent. Yeah,
- 8:47Speaker 2: so that's why they you know, they can afford to
- 8:50Speaker 2: take We are not that kind of rebounding team, so
- 8:53Speaker 2: we can't afford to take shots like that. So high
- 8:56Speaker 2: percent shots, make more of them, don't turn the ball
- 9:00Speaker 2: over and rebound the ball.
- 9:05Speaker 1: Right there you go, There you go, as simple as
- 9:06Speaker 1: that from Geno. All right, we'll take a break. Morel
- 9:08Speaker 1: of Geno in a minute here Onlearfield.
- 9:09Speaker 3: Stay with us,
