Speaker 1: Hey guys, and welcome back to another week of dirty Rush.
0:15
Speaker 1: We already went through the rush process with you guys,
0:18
Speaker 1: but now we're going to get into what life is
0:21
Speaker 1: like after the rush process. We're going to dive into
0:25
Speaker 1: what it's like to be a pledge in a sorority.
0:29
Speaker 1: And here we have Ava with us. She is going
0:32
Speaker 1: to tell us her pledge story.
0:35
Speaker 2: Hi.
0:36
Speaker 3: So I went to a small school in Connecticut, a
0:40
Speaker 3: small private school, and our rush was very similar to
0:44
Speaker 3: everything you guys spoke about before. You know, you saw
0:46
Speaker 3: the different sororities. The rush for us was the easy part.
0:51
Speaker 3: We basically like went into different rooms, you met the girls,
0:54
Speaker 3: you know, you got to know them, you had conversations,
0:57
Speaker 3: and then you got a bid. So the sorority that
1:00
Speaker 3: I got a bid for was a was a Jewish sorority,
1:04
Speaker 3: And the easy part was the rushing, and once you
1:09
Speaker 3: got a bid, it was crazy. So some of the things,
1:13
Speaker 3: like instantly there were I think there were like eight
1:15
Speaker 3: or nine of us.
1:16
Speaker 1: Oh, so, very your pledge class was very.
1:19
Speaker 3: Small, really really small.
1:21
Speaker 1: Do you mind, like you don't have to, of course,
1:23
Speaker 1: but do you mind disclosing maybe what sorority you were
1:26
Speaker 1: in or yeah, sure, I was in eight by oh okay,
1:30
Speaker 1: I mean very very well known sorority.
1:32
Speaker 3: Though very well known sorority, a really great sorority, you know.
1:37
Speaker 3: But I think our school did things a little bit differently,
1:40
Speaker 3: maybe because it was smaller. This was also back in
1:45
Speaker 3: two thous like early two.
1:47
Speaker 1: Thousands, okay, got it.
1:49
Speaker 3: Yeah, So we kind of pledge like a fraternity. We
1:53
Speaker 3: were hazed from day one. So the second you got
1:56
Speaker 3: your bid and you accepted, you had to get apack
2:00
Speaker 3: and in your backpack you had to carry a brick
2:03
Speaker 3: the entire time, which was sounds like, oh, that's kind
2:07
Speaker 3: of strange, but that was nothing. You had to carry
2:09
Speaker 3: a brick. You had to carry like a ziplock with
2:13
Speaker 3: anything that one of the sisters could want you had
2:15
Speaker 3: to have in that ziplock at all times, so that
2:19
Speaker 3: could be like cigarettes, hair fings, chapstick whatever.
2:23
Speaker 1: You were like their assistant.
2:25
Speaker 3: We we were definitely like their assistant.
2:28
Speaker 1: I want to say you were like there, but I
2:30
Speaker 1: don't know if that's a lot.
2:33
Speaker 3: We were fully there, Like we had to at the
2:37
Speaker 3: drop of a hat if we got a phone call
2:39
Speaker 3: or a text from them, we had to leave whatever
2:42
Speaker 3: we were doing to either. There were so many things like.
2:45
Speaker 1: If they yeah, that is kind of crazy because that
2:49
Speaker 1: does give fraternity it's their eternity. Yeah, because even my
2:54
Speaker 1: freshman year of college, it was me and my roommate
2:58
Speaker 1: and her boyfriend at the time was rushing and he
3:01
Speaker 1: would receive phone calls at like four am, one am
3:05
Speaker 1: because he would sleep over in the dorms all the time.
3:07
Speaker 1: And that gives very frat like rather than sorority life
3:12
Speaker 1: because that didn't happen to me and we rushed at
3:15
Speaker 1: the same time.
3:16
Speaker 3: And like, once you hear everything that I'm going to say,
3:19
Speaker 3: the fraternities had its ten times worse. So like we
3:23
Speaker 3: had it bad, but the fraternities had it way worse.
3:27
Speaker 1: Wow.
3:28
Speaker 3: Yeah, so okay. So some of the things we had
3:30
Speaker 3: to do for them at the drop of a hat
3:32
Speaker 3: was park their cars on campus, pick them up from
3:35
Speaker 3: the bars at any time of the night, clean their rooms.
3:41
Speaker 3: We had to so our campus like the some of
3:46
Speaker 3: the dorms were like apartments, so they would say I
3:50
Speaker 3: want cheetos right now, and you would have to steal
3:53
Speaker 3: from other people's dorm rooms. Like you'd have to go
3:56
Speaker 3: in and out, running in and out of people's dormoms
3:58
Speaker 3: and steal whatever food they wanted. Yeah, it was.
4:01
Speaker 1: Crazy and like oh my god. So it's not like
4:04
Speaker 1: you enter the store.
4:07
Speaker 3: That your room could have been the store. It was
4:09
Speaker 3: like I want chocolate chip cookies, go find them, like
4:12
Speaker 3: I want them, you have to be back here in
4:14
Speaker 3: three minutes. So yeah, I mean that was you know,
4:18
Speaker 3: we had to but like I said, we had to
4:20
Speaker 3: drive around, clean their apartments, do their homework and papers. Wow,
4:25
Speaker 3: And again that was the easy stuff.
4:27
Speaker 1: How long was your pledging process?
4:30
Speaker 3: It was around six weeks, so it was a while.
4:34
Speaker 3: And during that time you had to be there. You
4:37
Speaker 3: could not be anywhere else. So like as it got
4:40
Speaker 3: worse as it went on. We went into Hell Week,
4:42
Speaker 3: which was like the last week of pledging. Even before
4:45
Speaker 3: at Hell Week, actually, one of the things that we
4:46
Speaker 3: had to do was like they would say sizzle like bacons.
4:50
Speaker 3: You would have to drop to the floor and sizzle,
4:53
Speaker 3: and then they'd say flip over and you'd have to
4:55
Speaker 3: Like it's just like.
4:56
Speaker 1: Embarrassing, you know, and yeah, I mean, what are you
4:59
Speaker 1: like so on the ground?
5:01
Speaker 3: Yes, And like they would have fraternities come in and
5:03
Speaker 3: they would tell you to sizzle like bacon.
5:05
Speaker 1: And it was just like demeaning, you know, yeah, of course,
5:07
Speaker 1: I mean especially when the Frock guys come in. It's
5:10
Speaker 1: like probably guys that you were like, you know, interested
5:13
Speaker 1: in or thought we're cute, and then they're watching you
5:15
Speaker 1: like squeal on the ground.
5:16
Speaker 3: That's embarrassing, and like they would you had to they
5:19
Speaker 3: would like test you. So you had to know like
5:22
Speaker 3: the Greek alphabet. You had to know the Greek alphabet,
5:25
Speaker 3: and they would light a match and pull it upside
5:27
Speaker 3: down and if you would have to say the Greek
5:30
Speaker 3: alphabet correctly before it burned them, and then if it
5:33
Speaker 3: burned them, then like all hell broke loose. You were
5:36
Speaker 3: yelled at. There were punishments, like physical punishments like push ups,
5:40
Speaker 3: jumping jacks. You would have to sit against the wall
5:43
Speaker 3: like real, were.
5:44
Speaker 1: You in boot camp?
5:46
Speaker 3: Like what I know exactly, it was like we were
5:49
Speaker 3: in boot camp. So then as we so are, we
5:53
Speaker 3: didn't have houses. We had basements. So the baitin of
5:58
Speaker 3: the dorms had our room, any thigh rooms, that's like
6:01
Speaker 3: our house.
6:02
Speaker 1: Interesting, so like it so that the school could so
6:06
Speaker 1: like Panhell could like monitor it in a way.
6:09
Speaker 3: Not at all because there was no monitoring, okay, just
6:12
Speaker 3: because we were such a small school and there were
6:14
Speaker 3: no houses, so they just gave each of us a room.
6:17
Speaker 1: That's interesting because I know a lot of like other
6:20
Speaker 1: like because I don't I don't know what's if you
6:21
Speaker 1: don't mind, I mean, I if you don't mind sharing,
6:24
Speaker 1: it totally up to you. But I know the other
6:26
Speaker 1: smaller schools in Connecticut, like Fairfield or Sacred Heart. Actually
6:30
Speaker 1: I don't even think Fairfield had Greek life, if I'm
6:32
Speaker 1: not wrong, But Sacred Heart they had like rocks, rocks
6:38
Speaker 1: like represented their sorority, but I don't think they had
6:42
Speaker 1: anywhere to go.
6:44
Speaker 3: Yeah, we had like a dingy, old dusty basement room.
6:49
Speaker 1: That's crazy.
6:49
Speaker 3: It's like old car.
6:51
Speaker 1: You had like chapter and stuff in there.
6:54
Speaker 3: Exactly, we had Chapter in there. But so what happened
6:56
Speaker 3: was during hell week, they took away all of our
6:59
Speaker 3: keys to dorm rooms. We weren't allowed to shower or
7:03
Speaker 3: go to our dorm rooms, and so we would have
7:06
Speaker 3: to sleep in the chapter room in the base a
7:08
Speaker 3: week for a week. But they told us you're not
7:11
Speaker 3: allowed to sleep and they're like, we have cameras, you
7:13
Speaker 3: can't go in the back room. So for a week.
7:16
Speaker 3: We and you weren't allowed to sit on the couches
7:18
Speaker 3: when you were pledging, so we would have to lay
7:20
Speaker 3: on the floor and like use our backpacks as pillows.
7:24
Speaker 3: And so that was the one time in my life
7:27
Speaker 3: where we survived on adderall. We all took adderall.
7:31
Speaker 1: I could only imagine.
7:33
Speaker 3: So remember, if you don't have a dorm room, you
7:35
Speaker 3: don't have a shower, so you were not allowed to shower.
7:39
Speaker 3: And what they would do is they would come in
7:41
Speaker 3: and they would put like all different condiments in our hair,
7:44
Speaker 3: like catch up mayow mustard, like disgusting smelly stuff.
7:49
Speaker 1: Well and I've heard about this within like fraternities, but
7:53
Speaker 1: I've never heard this with sororities before ever.
7:57
Speaker 3: Yeah, so we would have to walk around, like I
7:59
Speaker 3: washed my hair in a public bathroom, like in a
8:03
Speaker 3: same one time, just to like try the smell, like
8:06
Speaker 3: I can still smell it. Imagine like mayo mustard ca
8:10
Speaker 3: up in your hair.
8:11
Speaker 1: No, that's mortifying. And then going to class. I wouldn't
8:14
Speaker 1: even show up.
8:15
Speaker 2: A class like that.
8:17
Speaker 3: Yeah, and not sleeping that on top of not sleeping, of.
8:19
Speaker 1: Course, how are you even focusing everyone's looking at you
8:22
Speaker 1: throughout campus? Probably thinking you smell. But like because your
8:26
Speaker 1: campus was a smaller school, did they knew that, Like
8:30
Speaker 1: they knew that this was happening to you.
8:32
Speaker 3: I knew, like this is what happens when you go
8:36
Speaker 3: through the process, and like it was like a medal
8:38
Speaker 3: of honor.
8:40
Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, I would have I would have given
8:42
Speaker 1: you a medal of honor. This is like reminding me
8:45
Speaker 1: of Special Forces.
8:46
Speaker 3: Which I love. By the way, I'm watching it, Oh
8:49
Speaker 3: so thank you. But yeah, I mean it there were
8:53
Speaker 3: many times where like we the six of us, would
8:56
Speaker 3: just say, like that's it, We're done.
8:58
Speaker 1: What were you allowed to draw?
9:01
Speaker 3: I mean yeah, if you'd remember it was such a
9:03
Speaker 3: small school, you dropped out, that was it for you,
9:05
Speaker 3: Like there was no coming back.
9:07
Speaker 1: Yeah, everyone would have known.
9:08
Speaker 3: Yeah, and like those five girls like they were my
9:11
Speaker 3: best friends, Like those were my people.
9:14
Speaker 1: I mean after going through that, you're like trauma bonded.
9:17
Speaker 3: No, for sure, Like I mean the things like if
9:20
Speaker 3: we wanted to drink water, we have to like miaw
9:23
Speaker 3: and drink from like a dirty water bowl on the ground,
9:26
Speaker 3: like really disgusting thing.
9:28
Speaker 1: That's crazy. Yeah, but did things turn around after this?
9:33
Speaker 1: Like so after they basically just treated you, like horribly
9:38
Speaker 1: and completely basically at the end of the day, they
9:41
Speaker 1: were basically trying to make you feel like a shell
9:44
Speaker 1: of a person, like make you feel like nothing.
9:46
Speaker 3: But you had to feel like you went through it
9:49
Speaker 3: and you deserved after everything, like you deserve to be
9:52
Speaker 3: there because they all went through it, so they so
9:56
Speaker 3: if you didn't go through it, you didn't deserve to
9:58
Speaker 3: be with these people.
10:00
Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, the worst I've ever heard was sitting
10:04
Speaker 1: on a washer or dryer naked. But who knows if
10:07
Speaker 1: that's even true. I mean maybe because the things that
10:11
Speaker 1: you're telling me right now, I actually can't even fathom
10:14
Speaker 1: that this happened to you.
10:16
Speaker 3: They took one of my clutchesters one night and we
10:19
Speaker 3: had to go on a scavenger hunt to find her,
10:21
Speaker 3: and she was wasted, crying, like they got her beyond wasted.
10:27
Speaker 1: That's so scary because that happened at the school that
10:32
Speaker 1: I went to, and the pledge ended up dead. So
10:38
Speaker 1: you know, it's like that stuff gets very crazy because
10:43
Speaker 1: that's when you know sororities and fraternities I think, get
10:47
Speaker 1: a little out of hand and like never know when
10:50
Speaker 1: enough is enough. And then at the end and then
10:53
Speaker 1: ultimately take it too far. Maybe they don't mean to,
10:57
Speaker 1: but like then it's like they look at it as
10:59
Speaker 1: a game and it's pure entertainment until it's not.
11:02
Speaker 3: Well, that's what it was. For the sisters. It was
11:05
Speaker 3: like funny for them to watch us go through it,
11:08
Speaker 3: even though they had gone through it before and felt
11:10
Speaker 3: the same way as us.
11:11
Speaker 1: Yeah, well, it was almost like he he he, this
11:14
Speaker 1: is my enjoyment because I went through this, and now
11:16
Speaker 1: you're going to suffer like I did.
11:19
Speaker 3: After my pledge class. It wasn't the same, like they
11:23
Speaker 3: No one was hates that hard anymore. Like our year
11:27
Speaker 3: was like kind of the last year that it happened.
11:30
Speaker 3: It just got like less and less because they did,
11:33
Speaker 3: you know, people started catching on and they were getting
11:35
Speaker 3: in trouble for it, so then the schools found out.
11:38
Speaker 3: Yeah yeah, but like it was, it was rough. You know,
11:41
Speaker 3: these are things that I really had to like spend
11:44
Speaker 3: some time and think about because once you go through it,
11:46
Speaker 3: you like wipe it from your brain.
11:48
Speaker 1: Oh for sure.
11:50
Speaker 3: And also like once we were in I wanted nothing
11:53
Speaker 3: to do with these girls.
11:55
Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, it's like, screw you.
11:58
Speaker 3: I ended up not really taking part in anything. Oh, God,
12:02
Speaker 3: It's just like, what's wrong with these people that they
12:04
Speaker 3: could treat us like that and then they think we're
12:06
Speaker 3: their friends, you know, Like it was just I only
12:09
Speaker 3: I right now, I only one of my pleasuresters is
12:12
Speaker 3: still one of my very close friends. But otherwise I
12:14
Speaker 3: don't really speak to anybody from my sorority.
12:17
Speaker 1: So you went through the whole process and then ended
12:21
Speaker 1: up really not even being an active member in your
12:24
Speaker 1: sorority exactly. I mean I understand it though. You were
12:28
Speaker 1: probably just so turned off by like the whole thing.
12:31
Speaker 3: They were mean girls, Like they were just mean girls.
12:34
Speaker 3: You know, we were their entertainment, and then it's like,
12:38
Speaker 3: you know, you get like mind fucked, and then you're
12:42
Speaker 3: expected to just go to parties with them, and that's
12:46
Speaker 3: not how I operate. So I was just kind of like,
12:49
Speaker 3: these are not my people.
12:51
Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I mean I totally get that. And then
12:53
Speaker 1: for the following year, you were so were you affiliated
12:57
Speaker 1: with your sorority? All four years, I.
13:00
Speaker 3: Was affiliated, but I didn't really go to anything. But
13:03
Speaker 3: like I said, it was a small school, so you
13:06
Speaker 3: kind of have a choice.
13:07
Speaker 1: Yeah. So then when it came to rush the next year,
13:11
Speaker 1: did you you obviously had to participate in the Russian
13:14
Speaker 1: pledging process because you were in the sorority.
13:17
Speaker 3: Well, at some point I did end up being a
13:19
Speaker 3: sistant pledge mom, okay, but doing it very different.
13:23
Speaker 1: So you kind of were like, I am turning this
13:26
Speaker 1: leaf and I am not doing what they did to
13:28
Speaker 1: me to these new.
13:29
Speaker 3: Girls exactly how effort. They did kick me out halfway
13:33
Speaker 3: because I didn't go to one of their events. So
13:36
Speaker 3: I started out as the assistant pledge moment, and then
13:38
Speaker 3: they took it away from me, got it, Yeah, which
13:41
Speaker 3: was fine.
13:43
Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, at least you were trying to make
13:46
Speaker 1: a difference.
13:47
Speaker 3: I just don't, like, I have a daughter, and I
13:51
Speaker 3: just can't imagine knowing that she was going through something
13:54
Speaker 3: like this. No one like you lose all self respect
13:58
Speaker 3: and for what really, for what though?
14:01
Speaker 1: You know, I mean at the end of the day,
14:02
Speaker 1: and even when I was at school, yes, sorority life
14:07
Speaker 1: was so fun and you get to meet so many people.
14:10
Speaker 1: But once you do that, I don't know, it comes
14:15
Speaker 1: to a point where you don't know if this is
14:19
Speaker 1: even worth it anymore, because you have your people.
14:24
Speaker 3: Already, right, I had my people, my pledge shisters, the
14:27
Speaker 3: six of us were super close and that was really
14:30
Speaker 3: all I needed after that.
14:32
Speaker 1: Well, Eva, I'm so sorry that happened to you. That's
14:35
Speaker 1: like the most horrible pledge story I've ever heard from
14:39
Speaker 1: a sorority in my life.
14:40
Speaker 3: Listen to your stories on here and I'm like, wow,
14:43
Speaker 3: that's such a nice experience.
14:45
Speaker 1: Like you're like, that's light work. This is nothing compared
14:49
Speaker 1: to what I went through.
14:51
Speaker 2: Ever.
14:51
Speaker 3: I had a cousin who was in a sorority at
14:53
Speaker 3: USC and it was like we got letters from our
14:55
Speaker 3: sisters and gifts from our bigs and this and.
14:58
Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I mean, and we didn't experience any of
15:02
Speaker 1: that at Rutgers. I mean, the most haze worthy thing
15:08
Speaker 1: we experienced was Big Little Night when like our bigs
15:12
Speaker 1: were supposed to get us like really drunk, but it
15:16
Speaker 1: wasn't in a malicious way. It was like, Okay, if
15:19
Speaker 1: you got too drunk, your big would take care of you.
15:22
Speaker 1: Like it wasn't to make you feel less than yourself
15:27
Speaker 1: or it was purely to have a fun night. So
15:31
Speaker 1: that's a lot.
15:33
Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean the night that we got in it
15:36
Speaker 3: was like do I go back and sleep and wash
15:39
Speaker 3: my hair, or like do I go out with everyone
15:42
Speaker 3: and party, and like you were exhausted. You know you
15:45
Speaker 3: were exhausted. You were gross your hair, I mean your
15:48
Speaker 3: hair takes Imagine a week of like Mayo mustard stuff
15:51
Speaker 3: in your hair. It's like so much time to recover
15:54
Speaker 3: from that.
15:55
Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I mean you probably also just felt so
15:58
Speaker 1: mentally drained. It was a week of not sleeping, constantly
16:02
Speaker 1: taking adderall to keep your to keep you awake, and
16:06
Speaker 1: just constant torture. You are so mentally exhausted by the
16:10
Speaker 1: time that was over. I would have wanted to shower
16:12
Speaker 1: and lay in my bed and not move for a week.
16:14
Speaker 1: So I give you a lot of credit.
16:17
Speaker 3: That's use dishwashers so on your hair, like that's what
16:20
Speaker 3: they said. They're like, go get like dawn soap, And that's.
16:23
Speaker 1: How because it would have been that hard to get
16:25
Speaker 1: out without like normal yeah, just.
16:27
Speaker 3: Like growths and not something I would ever sign up
16:31
Speaker 3: for again, that's for sure.
16:33
Speaker 1: Oh my god. Well, Ava, thank you so much for
16:35
Speaker 1: telling your story and coming on too Dirty Rush. I
16:39
Speaker 1: am happy that you found your happiness after pledging and
16:43
Speaker 1: that that was not going to define you. So kudos
16:47
Speaker 1: to you.
16:48
Speaker 3: Thanks for having me, and I'm happy listening to everyone's
16:51
Speaker 3: fun stories on here. So you guys are doing a
16:53
Speaker 3: great job.
16:53
Speaker 1: I think you're taking it home. I don't know.
17:07
Speaker 4: If you are Team Jeremiah, you probably need some help
17:11
Speaker 4: in the love department. Listen to I Do Part two
17:14
Speaker 4: to help correct your choices in men. Listen to I
17:18
Speaker 4: Do Part two on the iHeartRadio app, Apple podcast, or
17:21
Speaker 4: wherever you get your podcasts.
17:27
Speaker 1: Hi Paige, and welcome to Dirty Rush. I am so
17:31
Speaker 1: excited to hear your pledge story.
17:33
Speaker 2: I'm excited to tell you about them white fun. Oh
17:37
Speaker 2: them's there's a multitude. Yeah. Okay, I was a new
17:43
Speaker 2: member at and this was about a year ago. Because
17:47
Speaker 2: we're doing big little stuff right now, and I'm getting
17:49
Speaker 2: super reminiscent about all of it.
17:51
Speaker 1: Oh wow, Okay, so you're a sophomore.
17:54
Speaker 2: Yes, I'm a sophomore. Awesome and my big So if
18:00
Speaker 2: you don't know a lot about big little stuff, it's
18:03
Speaker 2: very like, oh, you're like getting introduced to the sorority.
18:06
Speaker 2: And in my case, it was like my third week
18:08
Speaker 2: of college, like I just had gotten there.
18:11
Speaker 1: Oh I know. And then you're going on like speed
18:13
Speaker 1: dating with all these girls and having this crazy experience
18:18
Speaker 1: and trying to act like you're going to find your
18:20
Speaker 1: best friend in a minute.
18:21
Speaker 2: Exactly the best idealized version of yourself. But anyways, a
18:27
Speaker 2: lot of the bigs, it's this whole kind of mantra
18:31
Speaker 2: of like showering their littles with like gifts and like lots.
18:35
Speaker 1: Of love and like older peril and anything like that.
18:38
Speaker 2: My big had a little bit of a spin on
18:41
Speaker 2: her how she was embracing me into her community, and
18:46
Speaker 2: it came in the form of like a bunch of
18:48
Speaker 2: masks the nights leading up to like our big little reveal.
18:53
Speaker 2: I have a list of them so that I didn't
18:55
Speaker 2: forget any She was friends with a lot of the
19:00
Speaker 2: in various like rats and sororities, which once again, I'm
19:04
Speaker 2: like freshly eighteen at a brand new school of like
19:07
Speaker 2: forty thousand people, and I was like, this is a lot.
19:11
Speaker 1: Yeah, of course, and especially if she knew everyone, she
19:15
Speaker 1: could easily like I know, in that moment, you were
19:18
Speaker 1: probably like, Okay, this girl can ruin my life if
19:21
Speaker 1: I don't do what she wants me to do, or
19:23
Speaker 1: ruin my social life. Like I totally get it, but
19:26
Speaker 1: I went.
19:27
Speaker 2: My first one was reading a limerick to the Fiji
19:30
Speaker 2: president reading a what a limerick with a type of
19:34
Speaker 2: poem at all?
19:36
Speaker 1: I was like, what is that?
19:37
Speaker 2: It was hilarious. It was like nine pm. She's like,
19:40
Speaker 2: you have fifteen minutes to write this and perform this
19:42
Speaker 2: for him outside of his house. I didn't know who
19:44
Speaker 2: he was. I didn't know where this rat was or
19:46
Speaker 2: like how I was getting in contact with him, But
19:50
Speaker 2: thanks to Instagram dms made it all work. And then
19:54
Speaker 2: along those lines, there's also performing a happy Birthday ballad
20:00
Speaker 2: to the pie Fi president, which I had gotten dropped
20:04
Speaker 2: from pi Fi the first day rush. So that was
20:06
Speaker 2: a little nice to the heart.
20:08
Speaker 1: Oh my god. But wait, so she made you like
20:12
Speaker 1: go around to other sororities too and do this?
20:15
Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, this was a whole Greek event. It was.
20:19
Speaker 2: It was great, though.
20:20
Speaker 1: I feel like that's a little strange though, because why
20:24
Speaker 1: would she want to like advertise that she's torturing her
20:28
Speaker 1: little to other sororities. Does that make sense?
20:32
Speaker 2: Fair? That's a fair I guess. I never really looked
20:35
Speaker 2: at it like that they were all in this network
20:39
Speaker 2: of like they were all probably doing similar things to.
20:42
Speaker 1: Their little like they were all doing it so all
20:45
Speaker 1: like the presidents or the people who were like higher
20:47
Speaker 1: up in the sorority were doing it, Yes.
20:51
Speaker 2: And I think it's just like the same way they
20:54
Speaker 2: were kind of they had big little when they were
20:57
Speaker 2: a little as well.
20:58
Speaker 1: So did the rest of your pledge class get treated
21:01
Speaker 1: like this? Yeah?
21:03
Speaker 2: This is just like.
21:04
Speaker 1: That's what I'm saying, Like this it's a little weird.
21:07
Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah it was. Oh, I guess this is how
21:11
Speaker 2: like frat hazing kind of perpetuates too. It's like a
21:16
Speaker 2: it's a weird form of endearment a little bit. And
21:19
Speaker 2: also I had a lot of fun doing the tasks.
21:21
Speaker 1: Not to Okay, I mean listen, if you enjoyed it
21:25
Speaker 1: and you're not saying that this is something that like
21:27
Speaker 1: affected you or like made you feel upset, then go
21:31
Speaker 1: for it. Okay, all right, what were some of the
21:34
Speaker 1: other ones? I'm interested because you're I think I feel
21:37
Speaker 1: like you're looking at this as a form of entertainment.
21:40
Speaker 2: It it was for me, so I feel like.
21:42
Speaker 1: You're a confident person.
21:45
Speaker 2: I just was kind of like, oh, I live on
21:47
Speaker 2: a floating rock, Like I'm not.
21:49
Speaker 1: I'm not that deep good mentality.
21:53
Speaker 2: I'm like pretty close with the girl that I performed
21:55
Speaker 2: to the birthday ballad for now it's like a it's
21:58
Speaker 2: a running like. Also, it wasn't her birthday, it was
22:02
Speaker 2: like just the random day of the week. The other
22:06
Speaker 2: ones these were kind of low stakes. There was a
22:09
Speaker 2: lot of texting in our flare, which is like like
22:13
Speaker 2: a sorority like messenger.
22:16
Speaker 1: Yeah, like a group may almost.
22:18
Speaker 2: Yeah exactly, asking for but itch ointment and just following
22:25
Speaker 2: up with like something going on, like don't ask. Yeah.
22:29
Speaker 2: There was some snapchats like swipe up for a tvh
22:33
Speaker 2: like like just embarrassing stuff to put on like your sociiyeah.
22:39
Speaker 2: One of one of the highlights was I petitioned for
22:43
Speaker 2: animal rights in front of this like fountain on campus.
22:50
Speaker 2: But yeah, that was actually pretty fun because I dressed
22:52
Speaker 2: as a I dressed in a gorilla suits and no
22:54
Speaker 2: one would recognize me. And also, okay, yeah, channel lot
23:00
Speaker 2: of free time, let me tell you to come up
23:02
Speaker 2: with these things.
23:03
Speaker 1: I mean, yeah, she was definitely brainstorming a lot. But
23:06
Speaker 1: I mean, Padre, I give you a lot of credit.
23:08
Speaker 1: I mean, your confidence is through the roof because anyone else,
23:12
Speaker 1: I mean, I don't know, I feel like any other
23:14
Speaker 1: girl would not be okay with this. It would be
23:18
Speaker 1: absolutely mortified to do any of these things. So I
23:21
Speaker 1: mean kudos to you because it takes I think a
23:24
Speaker 1: girl with high confidence and a girl with a high
23:27
Speaker 1: I don't give a attitude or what people say or
23:29
Speaker 1: think about me to do any of these things.
23:32
Speaker 2: Yeah, I was. I don't know if I if I
23:35
Speaker 2: should say, like what school I'm at, but I'm at Berkeley.
23:38
Speaker 2: There's a lot of there's weirder shit going on out there,
23:44
Speaker 2: petitions or rights, like I would say, like maybe like
23:47
Speaker 2: six people like did a double take, like not it
23:50
Speaker 2: was kind of like a normal day. It was a
23:52
Speaker 2: normal day in Berkeley.
23:53
Speaker 1: They're like, Okay, there's somebody else chanting about something that
23:57
Speaker 1: they believe in today. Okay.
24:00
Speaker 2: Really helped with the embarrassment factor, and like there it
24:03
Speaker 2: could be it would be a lot weirder somewhere else.
24:07
Speaker 1: That's so funny.
24:09
Speaker 2: Wrote more book reports for these pledge tasks or like
24:13
Speaker 2: pledged tasks. Then I have my entire career pat school
24:17
Speaker 2: so far about children's books that she left me in
24:23
Speaker 2: my like room decor situation. And then I also wrote
24:27
Speaker 2: a book report about it was like a self help
24:29
Speaker 2: book about klepto being a kleptomaniac. Kleptomaniac, that's a whole
24:35
Speaker 2: nother can of worms. My roommates and I were like
24:38
Speaker 2: running around frats stealing things, which was probably not great either.
24:42
Speaker 1: Oh my god, and this is all this is all
24:44
Speaker 1: set up from your sorority.
24:47
Speaker 2: No that the stealing was on her own CORNERO.
24:49
Speaker 1: Oh, like you just wrote a book report about being
24:51
Speaker 1: a kleptomaniac.
24:53
Speaker 2: A self help book. She knew. I was like, I
24:57
Speaker 2: didn't know she was, and she was like, yeah, my
24:59
Speaker 2: little is like cle I'm gonna give her this book.
25:01
Speaker 1: Oh no, I really hope the ceiling phase is over. Yeah, yeah, okay.
25:10
Speaker 2: Cool incident and then we retired.
25:13
Speaker 1: We were like, yeah, you got like you got like
25:16
Speaker 1: a nice high from it. It made you like it
25:19
Speaker 1: was exciting.
25:20
Speaker 2: Yeah, there was like dead Okay, I don't know because
25:25
Speaker 2: my big was saying, you might want to talk about
25:27
Speaker 2: this separately. But there was like a whole composite like
25:32
Speaker 2: hostage situation, Like we had this composite from a frat,
25:36
Speaker 2: like held hostage from the frat for months, and our
25:39
Speaker 2: next door neighbor was a pledge in the frat and
25:42
Speaker 2: like six months after we stole it. He broke into
25:44
Speaker 2: our room to take it back, and there's there was like.
25:47
Speaker 5: It was one night, and then the composite went back
25:50
Speaker 5: to the frat, and then we went back into the
25:52
Speaker 5: frat and stole it, and they like chased us down
25:54
Speaker 5: the street and then so we sent one of our
25:56
Speaker 5: other neighbors in to like distract them, and then skill
25:59
Speaker 5: the fence and got the composite back.
26:02
Speaker 1: It was Yeah, God, the.
26:04
Speaker 2: Kleptomaniac book was probably important for us to read.
26:09
Speaker 1: Yeah, okay, I could see that. Well. I mean, aside
26:14
Speaker 1: from all of that, I'm happy, I'm happy you have
26:17
Speaker 1: self reflected on being a kleptomaniac. I'm also happy that
26:22
Speaker 1: your big gave you what was it, a self.
26:27
Speaker 2: It was a self help book.
26:28
Speaker 1: Okay, wait, why did you need self help for being
26:31
Speaker 1: a kleptomaniac? Yeah, got it. Okay, So the cleptomaniac thing
26:35
Speaker 1: that is solved. But other than that, like the fact
26:40
Speaker 1: that you embraced doing all of these tasks for yourself
26:46
Speaker 1: is saying a wild, wild amount about your character. You're
26:51
Speaker 1: very confident, You're clearly very funny and just kind of
26:56
Speaker 1: live in the moment. So I mean embrace it, because
26:59
Speaker 1: I don't like a lot of girls in your situation
27:02
Speaker 1: would have taken it as well as you did.
27:04
Speaker 2: So are you saying you wouldn't petition for animal rides?
27:08
Speaker 1: Maybe not? No, wait that's bad because I love animals.
27:12
Speaker 1: But I just I would definitely be embarrassed on campus
27:16
Speaker 1: while doing it.
27:18
Speaker 2: Fair fair, fair, fair.
27:19
Speaker 1: Yeah.
27:21
Speaker 2: It was yeah, definitely a learning experience, but it was fun.
27:26
Speaker 1: So when your big was actually revealed to oh wait,
27:29
Speaker 1: you didn't know who your big was the entire time
27:31
Speaker 1: that she was making you do this, Oh my god.
27:35
Speaker 1: So the but then, so this was during like your
27:38
Speaker 1: speed dating process, because then how did she like lock
27:42
Speaker 1: you in? You know what I mean?
27:44
Speaker 2: You speed date and then you like the little will
27:47
Speaker 2: rank who they want, and the big will also rank
27:50
Speaker 2: who they want. And then if it's like it's like
27:53
Speaker 2: some weird system, if it's like a perfect one to
27:54
Speaker 2: one match, you end up with like.
27:56
Speaker 1: Yeah, no, of course I know that whole system. But
27:59
Speaker 1: then how did she get you to do these things
28:05
Speaker 1: before knowing who she was?
28:08
Speaker 2: She knew that I was her little, I wasn't sure
28:12
Speaker 2: who was my big, Like I had a feeling it
28:14
Speaker 2: was this person. And after the task started growing, and
28:17
Speaker 2: I knew it was her because like, this is so
28:20
Speaker 2: on brand for her.
28:21
Speaker 1: So you didn't have big Little reveal.
28:24
Speaker 2: This was just the lead up to big little reveal.
28:28
Speaker 1: Wait, I really am not understanding how she pulled this off. Then,
28:31
Speaker 1: so was everybody else's potential big doing this to their
28:35
Speaker 1: potential little?
28:36
Speaker 2: No, she was texting through an anonymous.
28:40
Speaker 1: Phone number saying like I'm gonna be your big do
28:43
Speaker 1: this stuff. Yeah, oh my god, Okay, that's funny. And
28:48
Speaker 1: so then how did you feel when your big was
28:51
Speaker 1: revealed to you?
28:52
Speaker 2: A sense of like, oh yeah, it was right?
28:55
Speaker 1: Was it like a sense of relief or like I'm
28:57
Speaker 1: happy about this?
29:00
Speaker 2: Like I was never mad about it in the first place.
29:02
Speaker 2: I thought it was hilarious, but it was like, yeah,
29:05
Speaker 2: this makes so much sense. Like I had a feeling
29:08
Speaker 2: it was who my big was, and then when it
29:11
Speaker 2: was revealed, I'm like, yeah, like of course it was you,
29:14
Speaker 2: Like only you would do this like clown stuff.
29:18
Speaker 1: Fun Our reveal was at the end, but we like
29:22
Speaker 1: this is why I was like confused because we speed
29:24
Speaker 1: dated like basically all the way up until like the reveal,
29:29
Speaker 1: and then like before the reveal, you like kind of
29:32
Speaker 1: knew who your big was because if you were like
29:35
Speaker 1: vibing with her, like you know, and kind of like
29:38
Speaker 1: solidifying it between like the two of you, even though
29:41
Speaker 1: you weren't supposed to do that, but like you kind
29:43
Speaker 1: of were like, Okay, you're my big, Okay you're my little.
29:46
Speaker 1: But it wasn't ever like a secret or like nobody
29:49
Speaker 1: could have like played a game on you before the reveal.
29:53
Speaker 2: Yeah, it's like you have the speed dating closes like
29:57
Speaker 2: probably a week before big Little, and then you have
30:01
Speaker 2: that week to like do baskets and do decorading and
30:04
Speaker 2: leave flowers.
30:05
Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, no, of course I was, but that same
30:09
Speaker 1: thing with us, But if you vibed with like your
30:11
Speaker 1: potential big, like you kind of like had a feeling like, Okay,
30:15
Speaker 1: this girl's gonna be my big or this girl is
30:17
Speaker 1: gonna be my little and hope that like you obviously
30:20
Speaker 1: both choose each other as you're one, two and three
30:23
Speaker 1: option obviously, but how your big was able to prank
30:30
Speaker 1: you and like tell you to do all these things
30:34
Speaker 1: before the reveal of the week leading up to it,
30:37
Speaker 1: like we never had that. Yeah, and I don't even know,
30:41
Speaker 1: like I feel like if that was happening to me.
30:43
Speaker 1: I was like, I'm being pranked. Like I'm gonna go
30:46
Speaker 1: ask someone in my sorority if this is fucking normal,
30:49
Speaker 1: because it doesn't seem normal.
30:53
Speaker 6: Yeah.
30:53
Speaker 2: There's a lot of like secret societies and like secret
30:58
Speaker 2: like club stuff too throughout Berkeley Greek life because it
31:02
Speaker 2: is such like an old school and it's very it
31:04
Speaker 2: was very traditional in the beginning, so it was kind
31:08
Speaker 2: of a sense of like not necessarily that everyone was
31:13
Speaker 2: doing the same stuff that I was doing, but like, oh,
31:16
Speaker 2: this is definitely a sorority thing, and it's definitely real.
31:20
Speaker 2: It's not like some random person texting me. But yeah,
31:27
Speaker 2: I also just knew that you would do something like that.
31:29
Speaker 2: She's a clown.
31:31
Speaker 1: Well that's hilarious. But Page, thank you so much for
31:35
Speaker 1: coming on to Dirty Rush and explaining your story. You're
31:38
Speaker 1: definitely a trooper. Let me tell you that. Hi Kensi,
31:55
Speaker 1: and welcome to Dirty Rush. I can't wait to hear
31:57
Speaker 1: your blood story.
31:59
Speaker 7: Thank you so much to be here.
32:01
Speaker 1: Let's hear it.
32:03
Speaker 8: Okay, So I feel like this one's pretty generic, pretty basic,
32:06
Speaker 8: but I go to a school in the South and
32:09
Speaker 8: SEC school, so Rush there is obviously way more intense
32:13
Speaker 8: than other regular you know, college and basically everyone rushes
32:19
Speaker 8: when they're eighteen, super new, super fresh. And I get
32:23
Speaker 8: into a sorority that I heard that was a little
32:26
Speaker 8: bit on the crazier side, which I didn't mind.
32:29
Speaker 1: At all, like kind of the party sorority.
32:31
Speaker 8: Yeah, and so I was excited because you know, I
32:34
Speaker 8: liked doing that in high school, and I was excited
32:37
Speaker 8: to continue it in college, but with a little bit
32:39
Speaker 8: more older.
32:40
Speaker 7: And more mature things going on around me.
32:42
Speaker 8: And you know, the night of mid day, like the
32:46
Speaker 8: Earth the night of midnight, and basically they have us
32:52
Speaker 8: together and then we get separated into pairs. And so
32:54
Speaker 8: I was with this random girl I've never even met before,
32:57
Speaker 8: and we get assigned to this one girl in the
33:01
Speaker 8: PC above us.
33:02
Speaker 7: And basically their job is.
33:06
Speaker 8: For us to get as drunk as they can get
33:07
Speaker 8: us and then to let us go into the frats.
33:10
Speaker 7: And so I was honestly down for and it sounded fun.
33:14
Speaker 7: We all met up. We met up in this basement
33:16
Speaker 7: that I had no idea existed on campus.
33:19
Speaker 8: And there's probably about like one hundred and hundred fifty
33:22
Speaker 8: girls in there, all chanting and yelling songs and drinking
33:26
Speaker 8: a lot in a lot of beatboxes, because that's what
33:29
Speaker 8: was sponsoring us secretly. But yeah, that was my first
33:33
Speaker 8: time having a beatbox at eighteen. I never really drank that.
33:36
Speaker 8: I don't think any of the other girls did either.
33:39
Speaker 7: I don't even remember that night to this day. I
33:41
Speaker 7: really try to picture and think back.
33:44
Speaker 8: I'm a senior now and that was about three years ago,
33:47
Speaker 8: but that was probably one of the first times I
33:50
Speaker 8: blacked out. And I don't know how I got home,
33:53
Speaker 8: but I know that they did have to take a
33:54
Speaker 8: picture of us when we were in our bed.
33:56
Speaker 1: Okay, so at least they kind of monitored you. They
33:58
Speaker 1: kind of wanted to like see where you were and
34:01
Speaker 1: not just really let you out and not put any
34:05
Speaker 1: like not keep any tabs on you.
34:07
Speaker 7: Yeah, not keep too many tabs on this.
34:09
Speaker 8: They basically just released us out into the wild for
34:11
Speaker 8: us to go introduce ourselves to the frat boys. Because
34:14
Speaker 8: every single frat through that night, so there's probably about
34:17
Speaker 8: twelve ten frats here, so we had to go to
34:20
Speaker 8: all of them.
34:21
Speaker 7: So it was crazy. That was the tap, That was
34:24
Speaker 7: the whole pot, that was the whole point of it.
34:26
Speaker 1: Yes, each one, Yes, I'm sure half of your half
34:30
Speaker 1: your punchcast didn't even make it to half of them.
34:32
Speaker 7: Yeah, I only went to three and then I ended
34:35
Speaker 7: up in bed.
34:36
Speaker 8: It was it was a surreal experience and it's funny
34:38
Speaker 8: to think about to try to picture what happened, but
34:41
Speaker 8: I really can't.
34:41
Speaker 1: So I feel like that kind of reminds me of
34:43
Speaker 1: my big, little, big little night. Like your bigs are
34:48
Speaker 1: getting you super drunk as the little and then you
34:51
Speaker 1: go to the frats, but your big is looking out
34:54
Speaker 1: for you the whole time, like making sure that you're
34:56
Speaker 1: getting into bed safely, that nothing happens to you. But
35:00
Speaker 1: you said you didn't really remember the night, but there
35:04
Speaker 1: were You said you went to three frats, So was
35:08
Speaker 1: there somebody at least monitoring you to make sure that
35:10
Speaker 1: you were okay and like kind of tell you what happened.
35:13
Speaker 8: So when I initially got in, I had friends that
35:18
Speaker 8: were going to ut prior, so I let them know
35:21
Speaker 8: where I was going to be that night. So I
35:24
Speaker 8: wasn't with the people that I had met in my sorority.
35:26
Speaker 8: I was with my hometown friends at these frats, and
35:30
Speaker 8: they were basically kind of the ones monitoring me.
35:32
Speaker 1: And then so your hometown friends were looking out for you. Yeah, yeah,
35:37
Speaker 1: that makes a lot more sense.
35:39
Speaker 8: Yeah, but I somehow got in contact with the person
35:41
Speaker 8: I was assigned to because that was their job, and
35:44
Speaker 8: like if they couldn't get you know, the new PC
35:48
Speaker 8: to their designated you know, places that they lived at,
35:50
Speaker 8: they would get in trouble. But yeah, we somehow found
35:53
Speaker 8: the girl that was supposed to be watching me and
35:56
Speaker 8: it ended up being fine.
35:58
Speaker 1: Wow, well I'm out of here, okay. Honestly, blessed to
36:01
Speaker 1: your hometown friends. Hometown friends are always the real ones
36:03
Speaker 1: that like make sure that you're really okay. I blessed
36:07
Speaker 1: to them, and I'm happy that you got home safe. Yes,
36:11
Speaker 1: but I feel like that's like weird that they would
36:14
Speaker 1: have Like, but they probably did that, honestly, so that
36:17
Speaker 1: you guys could have embarrassed yourselves in front of the frats,
36:19
Speaker 1: like being so drunk like that for the first time.
36:23
Speaker 1: But I'm surprised there wasn't a little more monitoring, just
36:26
Speaker 1: like because if like if they if something God forbid
36:29
Speaker 1: actually happened to one no, no, yeah, it would have
36:31
Speaker 1: been screwed.
36:32
Speaker 8: Yeah, there definitely needs to be a better system set
36:34
Speaker 8: up with it.
36:35
Speaker 7: But I mean, you know, it worked, a had a
36:37
Speaker 7: good time, and then at.
36:39
Speaker 2: The end of the day, no one got in trouble,
36:40
Speaker 2: so that's what mattered.
36:41
Speaker 1: Yeah, no, for real and blessed to your hometown friends.
36:45
Speaker 1: But Kenzie, thanks so much for telling us your story.
36:48
Speaker 7: Of course, thank you so much for having me.
37:03
Speaker 1: Okay, hey, Michelle and Grease, we have a big little
37:06
Speaker 1: duo here with us on Dirty Rush and they are
37:09
Speaker 1: going to be telling us their pledge story. Yeah, Hi,
37:14
Speaker 1: thanks for having Usoe Michelle or who's the big, who's
37:17
Speaker 1: the little?
37:18
Speaker 7: Michelle is the big?
37:19
Speaker 6: Yes, yeah, so yeah, she picked me up my freshman
37:22
Speaker 6: year and we've been best friends ever since.
37:26
Speaker 1: Oh I love that.
37:27
Speaker 9: It was a quick transition when you know, you know
37:30
Speaker 9: sometimes yes, you know you know which actually backsire. Michelle
37:35
Speaker 9: hired on us and that's part of the story.
37:37
Speaker 2: M hm.
37:38
Speaker 6: And so yeah, when you get your bid right, and
37:41
Speaker 6: I remember talking to Michelle all during rush and stuff,
37:43
Speaker 6: and then on mid day your match with like a
37:46
Speaker 6: bid day buddy, and so they kind of take you
37:48
Speaker 6: to the whole like post mid day event and like
37:51
Speaker 6: whatever the sorority had planned. And so we actually went
37:54
Speaker 6: rollerblading was our bid day event, which was just like
37:57
Speaker 6: really bonding to say the least, right, and then yeah,
38:02
Speaker 6: we ended up going to like all the bid day
38:04
Speaker 6: parties that weekend and like going to everything together. And
38:07
Speaker 6: then so we kind of knew probably from like that
38:10
Speaker 6: weekend that we were going to be big and little
38:13
Speaker 6: and then shelf, you want to take it over.
38:14
Speaker 1: And so this is kind of like your speed dating
38:16
Speaker 1: getting to know each other.
38:18
Speaker 5: Right.
38:18
Speaker 9: So, Okay, the way our sorority does it, which is
38:21
Speaker 9: probably similar across the board at our school, is you
38:24
Speaker 9: get a bid day buddy for the actual bid day,
38:27
Speaker 9: but then once that weekend passes, you're paired with a
38:32
Speaker 9: new member as an older member.
38:35
Speaker 1: Oh yes, okay, this is actually I think similar to
38:38
Speaker 1: how I did it. Okay, I forgot the whole bid
38:41
Speaker 1: day boddy thing.
38:42
Speaker 9: Yes, And so they make it a big thing that
38:47
Speaker 9: like there is no favoritism.
38:49
Speaker 7: It's honestly great.
38:50
Speaker 9: Like I look back on it as one of the
38:52
Speaker 9: most fun times of college. I was so spoiled. I
38:55
Speaker 9: was being taken out to dinner.
38:57
Speaker 1: Oh yeah, and especially as a freshman, you're like, okay,
39:00
Speaker 1: I get a free meal, and if you know, and
39:03
Speaker 1: especially if a lot of older sisters wanted to go
39:07
Speaker 1: on dates with you. There would be times where you're like,
39:10
Speaker 1: you had your breakfast, lunch, and dinner paid for. It
39:12
Speaker 1: was amazing.
39:14
Speaker 9: And then the way like we do it too is
39:16
Speaker 9: ubers are paid for to parties, like you don't leave
39:19
Speaker 9: without your We call it a beta. Everyone has a
39:24
Speaker 9: different name. But it is like princess treatment to the max,
39:28
Speaker 9: which is such a funny like contrast from the way
39:32
Speaker 9: that fraternities do it, because oh yeah, they're over here
39:36
Speaker 9: getting like haste and we're getting spoiled.
39:38
Speaker 5: M hmm.
39:39
Speaker 6: I think I see the most money my entire college
39:42
Speaker 6: experience that like four weeks of whatever that big little
39:45
Speaker 6: process was.
39:46
Speaker 9: So it is like painful, but anyways, you get to select.
39:50
Speaker 9: It's like mutual selection every time. So you get to
39:53
Speaker 9: select who you want to be prepaired with from the
39:58
Speaker 9: beginning of the week, and then the younger member also pairs,
40:01
Speaker 9: and then we have someone that like facilitates that pairing
40:04
Speaker 9: and that's.
40:04
Speaker 7: Who you're matched with each week.
40:06
Speaker 9: And so, like Grace said, I knew that we were
40:11
Speaker 9: probably gonna end up together in the end, so I
40:13
Speaker 9: actually took the approach of like I'm going to pick
40:16
Speaker 9: other new members in my sorority to get to know
40:18
Speaker 9: everybody else, because I'm only going to be hanging out
40:21
Speaker 9: with Grace for like the majority of the time after
40:24
Speaker 9: this small period is over, and so I'm like over
40:26
Speaker 9: here selecting other girls. I actually tricked her and told
40:30
Speaker 9: her that I didn't pick her up as my little,
40:35
Speaker 9: which is another story. But after the reveal, this was
40:40
Speaker 9: a few weeks after, and I get called into our
40:44
Speaker 9: sororities MCC, which is like standards, Yeah, and I was
40:50
Speaker 9: so confused. I hadn't done anything wrong to my knowledge,
40:55
Speaker 9: and I guess someone was like out to get me
40:57
Speaker 9: and said that I was favoring Grace and like claimed
41:01
Speaker 9: her so that nobody else in the chapter could have
41:05
Speaker 9: her as her little. And I did post a picture
41:08
Speaker 9: with her on mid day. Wait, that's normal, It's like
41:12
Speaker 9: is that not allowed?
41:13
Speaker 1: No, That's so normal though, because also during rush process,
41:16
Speaker 1: if you vibe with somebody and then obviously they come
41:19
Speaker 1: into your sorority, you're like yay, like I have my
41:23
Speaker 1: potential new member that I wanted in my sorority now.
41:26
Speaker 9: Right, And even the girls in Standards were like laughing.
41:30
Speaker 9: But the way we do it is you have to
41:31
Speaker 9: address anything any type of plane that is sent in.
41:35
Speaker 1: So it was all just.
41:36
Speaker 9: Kind of ridiculous. But it's such a funny testament to
41:40
Speaker 9: like the rules of sorority. Like everything is about these
41:44
Speaker 9: strict rules that we have to follow, and it is
41:47
Speaker 9: just not real life.
41:48
Speaker 1: No, it's like this book that we have to follow.
41:51
Speaker 1: And then when you get into the real world after
41:54
Speaker 1: college and realize that none of this crap matters, it's funny, right,
42:00
Speaker 1: I mean, even when you're like five minutes until I mean,
42:02
Speaker 1: I would say after your freshman year, you know that
42:07
Speaker 1: none of this really matters. But it's just kind of
42:10
Speaker 1: like a part of Greek life and a part of
42:12
Speaker 1: the traditions and kind of how things work.
42:16
Speaker 9: No, it totally is. There's also like a lot of
42:19
Speaker 9: tension during that time. I feel like, because every new
42:22
Speaker 9: member that just like went through recruitment is like now
42:26
Speaker 9: comparing like, oh, well, this sorority does this to their
42:29
Speaker 9: new members, or this person does this.
42:32
Speaker 1: But there's a.
42:33
Speaker 9: Sorority at our school that we tend to have tensions with.
42:38
Speaker 9: But we had a brat party probably at our school
42:43
Speaker 9: that hosts the most things, is the most lively, was
42:47
Speaker 9: our favorite to go to always, and it was pretty
42:50
Speaker 9: much just us in this other sorority, and I'm there,
42:54
Speaker 9: I'm having a great time with Grace. We leave, everything's fine.
42:58
Speaker 9: I'm sitting on the couch after with my guy friends
43:01
Speaker 9: and they're like, look at this video. It's so funny.
43:04
Speaker 9: They proceed to show me a video of one of
43:07
Speaker 9: them peeing on the composite of this other sorority. They
43:13
Speaker 9: grabbed the frame, put it in the toilet, and peede
43:15
Speaker 9: on it. The next morning, I waked up to a
43:21
Speaker 9: paragraph in our group chat with this other sorority, because
43:24
Speaker 9: we're all pretty close with each other.
43:25
Speaker 1: Thinking that, like, you guys set this up.
43:28
Speaker 9: Yes, so one of my guy friends actually blamed the
43:31
Speaker 9: entire thing on us, and I just remember thinking, like,
43:36
Speaker 9: right as things were starting to get good, like we
43:38
Speaker 9: were all getting along, so well, this happens.
43:42
Speaker 1: But honestly, the frats probably did it on purpose. Michelle
43:45
Speaker 1: and Grace, thank you guys so much for coming on
43:47
Speaker 1: to Dirty Rash and telling me your crazy cirrity life
43:50
Speaker 1: stories and your pledge stories. But I'm happy that you
43:53
Speaker 1: guys came out on top and found your way to
43:56
Speaker 1: each other. Yeah, but thanks for going on Dirty Rush
44:02
Speaker 1: a bye bye. Thanks so much, to all the girls
44:06
Speaker 1: for sharing their crazy Pledge stories from all ages, sororities,
44:10
Speaker 1: and colleges. We love hearing your stories, so keep them coming.
