- Micaiah: Welcome back, everybody. I'm fighting through it just for you guys, the listeners, the fans, not feeling the best. Barely got a voice. But I am backing better than ever. I am alongside my main man, Roberto Conqueso. I am your host today, Captain Boring. This is mostly college football. Thank you, everyone, for being here. aka Rain Man will be here, we think, at some point in time. He said start without him, he's building a couch. I don't know what that means. I don't know why he can't break from building a couch, but y you know what? At this point we stopped questioning him. he also better show up because he didn't put his picks in and he didn't put the games you don't want to watch in, because he was gonna do that during the episode, I guess. I don't know. It's so good to be here. Robert, how you doing, bud? Roberto Con Queso: Hey, we're doing pretty good, we're feeling better. Can't ask for much more. Micaiah: who's not feeling good right now is Mike Loxley and Dave Aranda. Roberto Con Queso: Amen. Micaiah: So firing season is upon us. I'm gonna my voice might be nothing by the time we are done, but I'm doing this for you guys, the fans, to bring you just a fantastic episode. Mike Floxley, head coach of Maryland, he got the out. he was there for eight years. Dave Aranda took over Baylor in 2020. And so he's been there six years. He got the out. Three coaches have now been fired. Dave Dorian. From NC State, Mike Loxley and Dave Aranda. Robert, why don't we start in Maryland? Everyone says that because of the talent that is there in the DC area, right? In that area. Everyone covets the Maryland job. Everyone wants and says, hey, put me there. Loxley said the same thing that put me there. I can get all the talent in. And he's he's done a good job bringing talent in, but it hasn't translated to wins. what do you think went wrong? He he said he's done being a head coach, maybe just a coordinator from here on out. what do you assess of the Maryland situation both now and in the future? Roberto Con Queso: well, you can you can boast up how good the recruiting and football talent is down in the DC area, but it's nothing compared to the talent they are gonna get from the Texas, California, Florida kind of pipelines. So yeah, you might be able to get those kids, but you need other kids to really fill in like there is no offensive lineman that is better than a Midwestern cornraised Corn fed farm boy. Micaiah: Yeah. Roberto Con Queso: that's that's an offensive lineman. I just don't think Maryland's like a luxurious job either. I mean, the number of times that me and or you have been to Maryland Stadium, it's not it's nothing great. And it's kind of in a crappy part of town. Like it it's not great. Like there's nothing drawing it. to and when crappy, I don't mean crime ridden. there's just nothing it's a big town, but there's nothing there. College Park doesn't sound like it should have a lot more than what it does. Micaiah: Right. No, I I completely agree. And for I I I keep hearing what I told you, right? I'm just regurgitating what I've heard on many a podcast, many and many is that the talent's there, the talent there. People want to go there because the talent. Like either Loxley did a terrible job of keeping talent in house. The talent is not anywhere good nowhere as good as southern or midwest talent, as you said. Or someone's taking all of the talent. And maybe it's a con a little combination of each. But for the fact that Maryland is so coveted and there's so much talent there, Maryland should be better once in a while, you would think, right? Roberto Con Queso: you you would assume that, yeah. if if there is any job opening that ever pops up that's in competition with Maryland, if you go and s Penn State opened up or Maryland, where are you going? Micaiah: Probably Penn State, hundred percent. Yeah. Roberto Con Queso: Penn State. at this point, even if it's probably Purdue in Maryland, you're probably gonna take Purdue's position too, just because you're I think you're in a better position. And you're all and also in Indiana. Now you're fighting with Indiana, obviously, for recruits there. But Maryland is literally just Maryland and smaller schools. And then you have to fight Penn State for some northern tier. Simeon Schlicher: mean at this point it's you and I think it's a position too. Just because you're you I think you're in a better position. And you're all and also in Indiana. Now you're fighting with that. Maryland is literally just Maryland. And then you have to fight ten things to be more than Micaiah: Purdue. Roberto Con Queso: And then Virginia Tech and Virginia for some Southern like more southern, but Simeon Schlicher: JMU. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah, okay. Let's let's Yeah. All right. Yeah. When Simeon Schlicher: Hey, I don't wanna hear it, Robert. Mackay's gonna owe me five dollars at the end of the season. Roberto Con Queso: w when they get to an actual conference that plays football, we'll get there. Simeon Schlicher: But with the talent level that Maryland is pr give getting right now, they're competing with JMU. Roberto Con Queso: JMU's competing with Marilyn, is what you should say. Simeon Schlicher: Whatever, bro. I don't care. Micaiah: welcome Simeon to the podcast, by the way. He he he's here. Simeon Schlicher: Hi. Micaiah: He f he finally did make it. you have some stuff to fill out, by the way, before we get to your to your section. Okay. Simeon Schlicher: I I I'm aware. I'm aware. Micaiah: All right. Simeon, Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Micaiah: we are talking out the the we were talking about the Maryland job, the buyout. He's he's owed t almost ten million. Simeon Schlicher: able to put I was able to put context together there, yeah, for sure. Micaiah: Okay, great. How'd your couch go? Simeon Schlicher: Great. My wife decided right as I got done from work she wanted to move it what is that, ninety degrees, forty five degrees. Roberto Con Queso: So you wanted to turn it. Simeon Schlicher: She wanted to turn it. Micaiah: And so why'd you have to build it? Simeon Schlicher: Because The Chase lounge was on the left side and for how it needed to be oriented it needed to move to the right side, which required it's an IKEA couch, which required taking apart like five bolts and flipping around arms and so on and so forth. My son has decided it is fun to climb up onto our bay window and bang against the window and I don't wanna, you know, have to buy a new one of those windows. So Micaiah: Sure, sure. Right. Right. Roberto Con Queso: But just by a new kid. Micaiah: Okay. Simeon Schlicher: That is an option. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Simeon Schlicher: I've been trying, wife said no. Who knows? Roberto Con Queso: This one's defective. I want a different one. Micaiah: And this one I want a refund. I want to refund. So Mike Loxley's getting $10 million buyout. Simeon Schlicher: Yeah. Micaiah: Dave Aranda's getting 12. And between the two schools, I would much rather, Robert, to your point, take the Baylor job over the Maryland job. Roberto Con Queso: my god, yeah, and go down to Waco. yeah, there's there's tornadoes, but Yeah, the recruiting field Micaiah: Yeah. Now w and Simeon Schlicher: Way easier to recruit in Texas than it is in Maryland. Yeah. Roberto Con Queso: is way better. Micaiah: It it's bigger. Now you do have, I would say, a little more competition, but I would say it it's a bigger distribution of better talent i there in Texas. Baylor, I'm so you're also in an easier conference is Baylor in the Big Twelve compared to the Big Ten, right? Now, whether or not you're gonna get money into the program, I would have to I don't know how much NIL is available at either school, but I would have to imagine. that it's roughly the same and how far your dollar will go in your conference to be able to compete is much bigger in the Big 12 than it is in the Big Ten, if that makes sense. RG3 said he would absolutely throw his hat in the ring. That would just no, we're we're we're we're not doing that. What do you assess of the baylor job? Roberto Con Queso: It's I think a it's a hard job because you are fighting with Texas, Texas Tech, AM, Simeon Schlicher: It's I think a it's a hard job because you are fighting with sex assessments. Roberto Con Queso: TCU. You're kind of fighting with everyone for recruits. But I think also BYU has an unfortunate like stigmatism to it. And I think that all goes back to like the R. Brial scenario that kind of Micaiah: Yeah, right. Roberto Con Queso: happened. That I mean, don't know if people still think that's a thing or whatever, but I think it's just a an overall harder draw just because A, you're not fighting with essentially the rest of the big dogs in the SEC like Texas, Texas A and Oklahoma. But you are fighting at least with BYU. So it's like you're it's not not many five stars are gonna go to Waco, Texas, but definitely some threes, the occasional four, some hometown boys. Micaiah: It it's always felt to me like a sleeping giant. Maybe because of what Art Bryals was able to do, right? Art like Baylor was at the top of the sport at one point in time. Baylor even won the Big 12 dating back to 2020, right? So the success has been there within the last 15 years. but it's gonna be one of those things where you're gonna have to get Someone in there and get the fan base excited because Dave Aranda, he's just a ball coach, right? He even said as much in many interviews where he doesn't really like going out and go doing the rah-rah whole booster thing and getting money in the door. He just wants to go out, get his team ready, and call plays. So I I do feel like Baylor is a sleeping giant, especially in the big 12. If they get someone in there who can be a rah rah and can raise that money and can get and ha but is also a good game planner, man, I I think that that is Simeon Schlicher: If they get someone in there who can deal that and raise that money and get and happy, but it's also a good thing. Micaiah: a prime job in today's college football. Simeon Schlicher: I think that's probably why they might hire RG three, because they're stupid enough to not know they need both. So they gone they went from a coach and now they're gonna go to a sales guy. RG three can come in, and I agree with you that I don't think it's a smart play for them, right? from a coaching perspective. Who knows? Maybe he'll prove us wrong. We're we're fifty fifty on calling coaches at this point. but like he can come in and sell the school Which is what you have to do in or in order to sell Texas schools. Is he can also sell the Heisman Trophy. He can sell the fact that he had good seasons if it wasn't for his knees exploding. who knows what other coaches he could bring in? That would be cool. it's Micaiah: But Simeon Schlicher: the same thing with Phillip Rivers being tied to NC State. There could be something Micaiah: The the NC's Simeon Schlicher: there. Micaiah: the NC state jump. But the difference is In in my opinion. The difference between Baylor and NC State is NC State is one in the ACC and then two hasn't been relevant in in the last decade, right? Roberto Con Queso: Well I think the Simeon Schlicher: They they they were here when they would play upset, if anything. that was their role. Roberto Con Queso: I think that the perfect position for RG3 is the same position that Andrew Luck is in. Micaiah: A GM. Roberto Con Queso: A GM. Let him be a general manager because he has that connection with the with the players, but he also has a connection outside where he he's been to the NFL. He knows he knows the hoops that the kids are the guy the gentlemen are gonna have to jump through and everything. But then hire a coach that is just a straight up ball player. a straight up ball coach that, a Aranda is a s you said, he he just wants to do the X's and O's, which is fine. But then you have RG three as your GM who is out there traveling with and trying to get kids in and given the rah rah. Micaiah: I I Simeon, also a salesman, right, doesn't work as a head ball coach because we've seen it in that own conference right now with Dion Sanders. Like it it's not gonna now as a GM, Simeon Schlicher: a hundred percent. It Micaiah: Robert, now you got as long as you got a business acumen to you and a business mind, absolutely. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Simeon Schlicher: Yeah, but everything, pendulum swing, right? Like that's the annoying part when it comes to ownership in the NFL or in this case athletic directors as directors is we get Sharon Moore and then we get Kyle Whittingham. We get Rich Rodriguez and then we get Brady Hoke, which was really kind of the same idea, but like you get you get the safe option, then you get the not safe option. And I'm not calling, you know or the more edgy option, I guess is what I should say. R RG three has been around the game. He's stuck around the game and commentating and all that sort of thing. But at the same idea, he has no pro like Phillip Rivers has a track record with high school coaching. Freaking Greg Olson has a track record with with with coaching. Roger Robert Griffin hasn't been coaching. Teddy Bridgewater has been coaching. These are people who have a track record and you wanna bring along somebody, possibly bring on somebody who has no track record. That doesn't tend to go great for you. No offense to Jan, you had a track record, but who knows? Micaiah: So one so one thing that all of these schools, NC State with Dave Dorian, Maryland and now Baylor, all of what all these schools now have is a jump on every other school. Now, I think that they will be very hesitant to go after a coach that is currently coaching and maybe makes a run for the playoff, right? With every with all that with the Lane Kiffen mess that happened last year, I'm not sure that any school want these types of schools don't want that publicity. Roberto Con Queso: If you're Baylor, why not bring RG3 as your GM, but then just bring Brian Kelly as your head coach. And run Brian Kelly as listen, you are X's and O's. That's all I that's all we need you for. because he should still he's still getting money from LSU, yeah? So it's not like Micaiah: Yeah, I would have to imagine, yeah. Roberto Con Queso: he's gonna need a ton of money. Micaiah: The the other the other thing is if you now I don't know if you would do this. Kental Bryles has had many a good offense throughout the year, and he was the offensive coordinator there under his dad, but I don't know if you want to go back to the old Bryals tree. Simeon Schlicher: The other the other thing is I don't know if we would do this. I don't know if they would go back to the They're Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Simeon Schlicher: firing them now so they can start talking to agents. They're not firing them now so they can talk to coaches. Right now there's let's say probably fifteen agents out there making calls to th these three schools. That's what they're doing. That's why they fired them, so they can start having the conversation like you said, so they can get ahead, not to actually start talk to the people. Did we discuss who actually won the Jimbo Fisher Fired by Week Six Award? Micaiah: I believe it would be Dave Dorian, would it not? Yeah. Simeon Schlicher: It was Dave Dorian, right? No. No, it was Maryland's coach. He was fired first. Dave Dorian was Micaiah: Mazzy. Simeon Schlicher: fi yeah, yeah, Maryland's coach was fired in the middle of the week, right? Micaiah: Yeah. Simeon Schlicher: Yeah. Micaiah: Okay. Roberto Con Queso: Got me, but all I know is he was he was canned. Micaiah: R Robert, how how intrigued our teams gonna be in Brian Kelly? That's a great question. Roberto Con Queso: obvio I think Micaiah: How intrigued would you be if you were running one of these programs in Brian Kelly? Roberto Con Queso: I I would still be intrigued with Brian Kelly just because he is a seasoned and proven coach. Yeah, he didn't have a great outing at LSU, Simeon Schlicher: Thing at LSU. Roberto Con Queso: but I don't think LSU just was built for the Brian Kelly that they got. Because at Notre Dame, Notre Dame was super competitive for I don't know how many years. But also it's not like they really the whole schedule thing, non conference thing. That's the whole aspect of it. You really wanted to get into it. But I w like he's probably better than most that are out there right now, or at least that are going to be out there. And he's you can at least have confidence knowing, okay, I at least have somewhat of a decent coach. You just Simeon Schlicher: You just Micaiah: You you Roberto Con Queso: have to take things away. I would I would take Brian Kelly over Mike Norvell. Simeon Schlicher: have to like take things away. Like I would I would take Brian Kelly over so it if if those two were my two watching Kelly. Micaiah: Yeah, that's fair. Roberto Con Queso: so if the if those two were my two options, I would go Brian Kelly, but then I would limit what power he has by getting a general manager and saying, My general manager is going to be the one working with you, and that's how we're gonna get this thing going. So you only worry about getting me wins on the field as a team, we'll worry about getting players and money and everything else. Micaiah: he was very successful. He had a n national title game appearance at Notre Dame. He had multiple playoff ex like appearances at Notre Dame as well. Right now, Marcus Freeman is doing just about as well as he did there. So it it he's not a bad option either. another, not head coach that got fired, but offensive coordinator. This feels like an just sc- 100% a scapegoat to me. Oregon fires their offensive coordinator, Drew May Ringer. they fired him two days ago. So, what would that be? They fired him Sunday after a 21 to 10 loss to Illinois, in which they did not score. They scored the first 10 and then didn't score the rest of the game after that. This is this just feels like a scapegoat situation to me. That you don't have your quarterback, Dante Moore. Simeon Schlicher: And then after a twenty one to ten months you did not score. You score the first ten and then wouldn't score the rest of the year after that. This is actually this person who always write a statement system. Micaiah: And then the Dylan Rayola was great and then he regressed immediately and they don't like the offensive line isn't there and the running backs aren't there and Simeon Schlicher: Like watching the line isn't there, and the running backs aren't there and Micaiah: I'm not sure what happened, but it does it not feel like a scapegoat situation to you to fire the offensive coordinator? Roberto Con Queso: Yeah, but that's that's where you start. You always get rid of either your offensive or your defensive coordinator. And then when things still don't get better, then it's we find whatever excuse next, and then eventually we get fired ourselves. But I think what we're honestly seeing is Dan Lanning is not a developmental coach. He is a plug-and-play coach. And when the plug-and-play players are not performing well. The team's not going well. Almost the same as Mel Tucker. Shep way call back to Michigan State. Micaiah: Right, right. He hasn't been there that long for the message to be stale though. I know that the defense has a whole bunch of returning starters, so maybe that's I mean, and the defense has been playing better than it was the first month of the season. They've been playing better, but I I feel like the offense is hard to evaluate because there was nothing wrong with the offense through the first month of the season. It was all defense and now it's flipped, but Dante Moore is out. So it Simeon Schlicher: So it I to your point, it just feels like show that it's really hard to replace good coordination. Well, Star is doing a heck of a job at some point, right? As in Sitlisop the S and C. He's moving a lot harder to replace than. Micaiah: To your point, it just feels like Dan Lanning's trying to be like, well, I gotta do something. Phil Knight wants me to do something, so I'm gonna fire my offensive coordinator, even though maybe that's not the answer. This also goes to show that it's really hard to replace good coordinators. Will Stein is doing a heck of a job at Kentucky, right? Has him sitting atop the SEC. He's proving a lot harder to replace than I think people thought he would. Roberto Con Queso: And I and I think also what is kind of being lost in the entire conversation is this is the worst season Oregon's had since like twenty twenty. Like Oregon's been historically very good. W whether what players they had or what they didn't have, they've always been pretty good. And this is feeding more into one bad year, all right, coach has to go. He doesn't know what he's doing. Which is the boat that as a Michigan fan we're in right now, where it's up, not having a good year, coach has to go. Sharone had an okay year, second year, bad, Sharon's gotta go. Good lord, Harbaugh had like a couple okay seasons and it was like Harbaugh's gotta go because he couldn't beat Ohio State. Micaiah: Yeah. Roberto Con Queso: Like the time the as long as you are competitive and winning, the stinging doesn't matter with how like if you only get like two or three losses, but if you win the rest of them, it's like, okay, we can build off of that unless you're Penn State, and then they're you do it for so long and then you want to get rid of your coach. But when you win three and then it's just very poor losses in offensive ability after that, now it's we need we need big change. We need to change everything. And I think that's offensive coordinator first. Wouldn't surprise me if the defensive coordinator if they lose a northwestern, a de defensive coordinator's gonna go. Micaiah: Yeah. I thank you hold on some man, you're on mute because you're echoing. I think that you you've kind of brought brought up the Michigan situation, right? Roberto Con Queso: Right. Micaiah: Does so I'll just roll right into that. Does Jason Beck deserve to be fired? He deserves to wear wet socks for the rest of his life. Because the performance on Saturday was atrocious. The outside the outside runs have just not been working all year, and yet he continues to run them. He did not have one positive outside the tackle run all game. And this Rhino formation, where they put like the six offensive linemen in, right? And they put in kind of at tight end or whatever, in overtime, where the Simeon Schlicher: Where they could like a six offensive line in the name right and the coming back tight end or whatever. In overtime where the Micaiah: Whatever play was called was actually going to work. It was a toss play that was blown up for negative five yards. It just it he never even got out of his stance. the the defensive tack, the defensive end just swum right by him and he never got out of his stance. It's not working with Jason Beck. And I'm Simeon Schlicher: whatever players call is actually going to look, it was a cross play that would blow up to negative five large. It just it couldn't really be that out of it. It's not working on and I'm Micaiah: angry because Kyle Winningham is like, yep, well, we're we know what the problem is. We're solving it. Really? Are you? Because I would have pulled my headset down on Saturday and said, Jason, if you run one more outside zone, I'm firing you at halftime. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. The hard thing with Michigan is it's all their first season with Michigan. If this was year two or year three and we're still having the same problems, yeah. I w it's then it's like we gotta change something right now. I mean, we're midway through the season. We have a Rutgers team like that, God, we should just mollywap Rutgers and Michigan State, Oregon. Like If the next three weeks the offense is just still awful and is not producing, then it's yeah, we something needs to change. Like something somewhere needs to change. Because the defense has been fine. The defense Micaiah: Wow, the defense has been outstanding. Roberto Con Queso: the only problem with the defense is they're on the field too long, obviously. But like we just the fact we can't sustain drives and you know like Jordan Marshall He's only ran for 300 and some yards, but he's averaging four yards to carry. So it's like it's not bad because if he runs the ball three times, it's a first down on average. You know what I mean? So it I think the string of plays that generally are called we'll do one good play, two bad plays, punt the ball, one bad play, one good play, one bad bay, punt the ball. Like it we just need to get better at. sustaining the drives, putting together drives, and actually even if we go the entire length of the field, make it to the two yard line and then punt it from our from the opponent's two yard line out of the stadium, at least our defense got a rest. Micaiah: Yeah. Jay Hill can be defensive coordinator ever as of right now, as long as he wants. He's calling fantastic. I'm loving the defense. It's very multiple. the it's all offense quarterback wise for me. I don't know how you feel. Tommy Carr is a true freshman, he played like a true freshman on Saturday. He's a better thrower of the football and understands pocket mechanics way better than Bryce does. He kept more plays a alive. if Bryce Underwood was the quarterback that final drive, he was not going to we wouldn't have scored at all, right? We wouldn't have gotten down Roberto Con Queso: Simeon. Micaiah: there to to tie the game. I think he left because he's changing his mic or something. he was able to step up in the pocket and, you know, na navigate things Bryce Underwood can't do. But at this point with Jason Beck calling the place, they're they're both gonna turn the ball over. Bryce because he's a turnover machine. Tommy because he's a true freshman. I'm okay if either one starts because as long as he's running outside zones, it's just it's neg gonna be negative five yards every time. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Yeah. I and that's the 'cause in the beginning of the season I said I would like to see them run more outside because Micaiah: Yeah. Roberto Con Queso: all we were doing was running up the middle and it wasn't working. So now we're back to okay, now we're gonna run everything outside and that's not working, but when we run it up the middle, it kinda works. And it's like let's let's find the happy medium and just Maybe running up the middle this one, outside that one, maybe a jet sweep, then we throw the ball. Whatever. Just get the ball in the end zone for some points, please. Micaiah: We have not scored a touchdown that hasn't started with a defensive takeaway in three games. So I just want everyone to realize that. if Jason Beck deserves wet socks, Robert, so does Lincoln Riley after that performance on Saturday. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah, I just want to make sure everyone on record knows that Robert picked Wisconsin to win. Yes, Micaiah: One of your two wins. Great job, Bud. Roberto Con Queso: one of my two. Hey, how many did you have? Exactly. Micaiah: Hey, I had one. It's not about me though. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah, it's again, you're going from one week running a stellar offense, everything's clicking looking great, and then the next week you're on the road against Wisconsin and you can't even get past the fifty. Like I I don't know if 'cause it's not like Myava is a bad quarterback. I just don't understand. Micaiah: Negative seventeen rushing yards, that'll do it. That'll do it. Roberto Con Queso: yeah, okay, you if if they're almost having the opposite effect where okay, so we're we're running the ball negatively, let's throw the ball because they can. And they're not and they're not, but they should. Micaiah: They throw the ball, but they're not, but they should. Jaden Maiava was 31 of 50, so they did try to throw the ball 50 times for 258, one touchdown, and two interceptions. Their leading r rusher was sh Sean Alston for seven carries, 28 yards. Jaden Maiava was sacked five times for negative 57 yards, hence the negative 17 rushing yards. But the fact that you, your leading rusher, King Miller, Ran the ball 11 times for eight yards, averaged 0.7 yards per carry. That's embarrassing. Wisconsin's good. They're clearly a good quality Big Ten team. They're not negative 17 rushing yards good. So the folks in LA, I don't now does Link is Lincoln Riley like does he be does he go to USC and be like, I'll save you the firing. I got the Baylor job. They're not gonna buy me out at all. You're not gonna have to pay me. You're not gonna have to fire me, but I'm gonna go to Baylor and and do the Baylor job because he kind of belongs in the Big 12. His offense belongs in the Big 12. Roberto Con Queso: I would have to it I don't know, because I feel like the the assumption I feel like always was with Lincoln Riley the next step was gonna be the NFL, right? Like it was going Micaiah: Yeah. Roberto Con Queso: to be something in the NFL because of the success with Caleb Williams and then the downfall of Caleb Williams and now the ups and downs of this season, it's kinda like I mean, he could go to Baylor, but Would he be able to out recruit there against Texas and A and Micaiah: Yeah, I think for quarterback talent, absolutely. he's proven that that he his quarterbacks and the type of offense he he runs showcases their talents, no matter who the quarterback is. So, and and look at Texas. You got Sark, okay, maybe a few years ago, not anymore. Texas Tech, absolutely not. They're not a quarterback program. TCU, Sonny Dykes, okay, fine, but you're not going to the playoff year in, year out, and you're not in high level contention. Who who else is in that area, right? Texas A and Okay, come on, your defensive program now. Roberto Con Queso: Right, but so we're looking at Lincoln Ray and saying, Okay, you're producing quarterbacks, but that's it. You're not winning anything. He hasn't won a conference title in Micaiah: Since he was at Oklahoma, right? Roberto Con Queso: Since he's at Oklahoma, so he's never won a Big Ten title. Hit his quarterbacks, sure, they've won the Heisman, but they've never won a playoff game. So Micaiah: That's not true. Baker Baker won a in the in college. Yeah, yeah, yeah. Roberto Con Queso: It inc yeah. So it's like, sure, you can you can bring in all the Julian Stane, Arch Mannings you want, but if you're not bringing anything else to the table This this is what you get losing to Wisconsin by 17. Throwing the ball 50 times, which is a lot. And I thought I from the score, you wouldn't think that they would have thrown a lot that's why I didn't think they were throwing the ball a lot because they only scored seven points. And you're playing Wisconsin, who was a run stuffer, essentially, kind of school, and you only throw for two fifty-eight, one touchdown, and two interceptions. so is it a wide receiver problem? Is it an offensive line problem? Is it your running backs are that bad or is your offensive coordinator bad? Micaiah: Well he's the one who calls the plays, right? He's Roberto Con Queso: So then it's to then Lincoln. Lincoln is essentially a worse version of Ryan Day calling plays. Micaiah: As of right now. Yeah. go listen to my recap episode that dropped on Sunday, everyone. It's the episode right before this. So everyone go take a listen to that. But the big twelve SEC are wide open based on Saturday's results. And if you want more about that, go go listen to that. But so Robert, what I want you to do, and Simeon, you can chime in here if you have a mic. Great. Simeon Schlicher: I do. Micaiah: What I want you guys to do is I want you guys to pick. Who the conference champion is gonna be. We are now headed into week week nine. Games are on Halloween this weekend. So last five weeks here of the season coming up. But these conferences are wide open. So I want you to pick who the conference champions are gonna be for the ACC. We'll start there. We'll give you an easy one. Simeon Schlicher: you can't hit me with that. Miami Roberto Con Queso: I'm gonna call the upset and go SMU. Micaiah: Okay, so you're gonna go SMU. SMU Wake Force play each other in a few weeks, by the way. So winner of that game probably gets they're both four and one Simeon Schlicher: Do we know why Wake Forest got good all of a sudden? Micaiah: because they have Jake Dicker as their head coach, who coached at Washington State. Simeon Schlicher: Thanks. Micaiah: You're welcome. Big Twelve, who you got there? Roberto Con Queso: Ugh, I'm gonna I'm Simeon Schlicher: Yeah, I'm with Robert. Micaiah: See. Roberto Con Queso: gonna I'm gonna go with a dark horse. I'm gonna go Arizona. Micaiah: Okay, big game this weekend against the Red Raiders. We'll get into that. It's not a bad pick. Simeon Schlicher: I'm I'm gonna go Utah. I don't know what the rest of their schedule looks like, but that's who I'm gonna go with. Micaiah: Okay, I do believe that you told me why you still have to play in the holy war. The big Simeon Schlicher: They play Cincinnati next week, th this week, they play BYU the week after and Arizona the week after that. And then they have a shootout in in Salt Lake against West Virginia scheduled for the last. Micaiah: Big Ten Conference. UCLA currently leads that. Simeon Schlicher: Not gonna stay that way. I think this is Micaiah: We I keep saying that. Simeon Schlicher: I I think well, i I think this is gonna end a lot like the big the ACC, where it's gonna be two or three teams that are like who's gonna get in based off of an upset or technicality. It's Ohio State and who. Robert Ohio State and who is gonna be in the conference championship game. Roberto Con Queso: I mean this is gonna shock everyone. I'm gonna go Northwestern because like Micaiah: Yeah, I Yeah, I don't hate it. Simeon Schlicher: I don't hate it. Roberto Con Queso: I mean, solely off of Indiana looked awful against Michigan. Simeon Schlicher: Yeah. Micaiah: And Ohio State. Roberto Con Queso: Well, yeah, yeah, they lost to Ohio State. But they looked worse against Michigan. And Simeon Schlicher: So Northwestern has Oregon this week, Iowa, Ohio State, Minnesota, Illinois. That's their hard part of their schedule. Roberto Con Queso: What I think what will get interesting is Northwestern Ohio State. Northwestern beats Ohio State. This Big Ten is gonna be pretty crazy Simeon Schlicher: Wide open. Yeah. Roberto Con Queso: because Wisconsin can very well win out and only have one loss. Simeon Schlicher: UCLA is in the easy part of their schedule. Nevada, Minnesota, Illinois, Michigan, USC. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah, so we we could end up with a scenario where we have either Wisconsin versus UCLA as the Big Ten championship, Wisconsin versus Northwestern or Northwestern versus UCLA. Think about that. Simeon Schlicher: Yeah, that's crazy. Roberto Con Queso: that could be Simeon Schlicher: I want northwestern UCLA so badly right now. Micaiah: That that would be That's the thing, right? Roberto Con Queso: I don't know if I would watch that. I don't know. Simeon Schlicher: Okay, Robert, the other game Micaiah: I w I wouldn't Simeon Schlicher: is the ACC championship game. You're watching UCLA Northwestern or you're watching Miami SMU? Micaiah: Miami SMU. Roberto Con Queso: Miami SMU will probably be a more higher scoring. Micaiah: I don't know. Chip Kelly's gotten the Wildcat scoring a bunch of points there. Simeon Schlicher: The way this is going, are you watching Roberto Con Queso: Yeah, but Simeon Schlicher: Cincinnati and Baylor in the Big Twelve or Roberto Con Queso: No, no, that one I would I would skip that one. Micaiah: Listen, there with how this season has been, any of these teams in the Big Ten, in the top half, whatever, that only have one currently Big Ten loss can suffer two or more losses like that, right? Two yeah, go ahead. Roberto Con Queso: Well we can put o it's pretty safe to say you can put Ohio State on upset alert this weekend. But saying's Micaiah: Yeah. Roberto Con Queso: out for Lord knows how long. it Micaiah: Right. You if you see UCLA still gotta go to Michigan in that defense, right? Roberto Con Queso: Yep. Well yeah, but it's Michigan's offense. Let's Micaiah: Well, I but UCLA's playing with a running game and a backup quarterback. They're basically playing the just a better version of what Michigan's doing right now. Roberto Con Queso: All they gotta do is score thirteen. Micaiah: Well, that's true. who Kirk Sinetti said that when it was six six nothing, he thought the game was over. And he w he was almost right. And Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Micaiah: if the Michigan kicker could could kick. But what I'm saying is, like, even Iowa, who has two losses, right, they theoretically aren't out of it. Theoretically, they now tiebreakers coming into it, but they are just like no one with two losses. I I think the cutoff is Michigan at one Michigan, Washington, Rucker, the bottom with three or more losses. But anyone with two conference losses in the Big Ten, you're you're theoretically still there and can make a run if you get some help in front of you. all right. So you picked Northwestern and Ohio State. Simeon, you picked who? Simeon Schlicher: give me Ohio State. Micaiah: Okay, you you picked Ohio State. And then let's go to the SEC. Roberto Con Queso: She wants champion or the game? Micaiah: Either. I'll take either. Roberto Con Queso: I'm still gonna go Bama, Georgia. Simeon Schlicher: Who does Kentucky have left? That's the question. Tennessee, Micaiah: I think Georgia's gonna Simeon Schlicher: Florida, Missouri, Louisville. They're probably gonna drop one of those games. Possibly two. Possibly none. I think it's a 50-25-25 between those. Who does Georgia have left? Roberto Con Queso: Well, Kentucky only has to win three because Louisville's not a conference game. Simeon Schlicher: Right. And Georgia has Florida, Ole Miss, Missouri, South Carolina. give me give give me Kentucky, Georgia. Micaiah: I th I still think Lane Kiffin's gotta Simeon Schlicher: And give me Georgia. Micaiah: r I th I still think LSU's gotta run in LS next week. Simeon Schlicher: They play Alabama this week, Makkay, if you lose or next week if they lose that game. Micaiah: I no, I think that they beat Bama, they beat Texas, and they beat Tennessee. They have a better o they they have a better structure offense than ever Simeon Schlicher: Wild. Alabama's schedule is LSU Vanderbilt Chattanooga Auburn. With the Auburn game being the question mark and well and the LSU. Micaiah: LSU I w as long as Sam now Sam Levitz turned the ball over the most out of all the quarterbacks. Simeon Schlicher: See? Who's been the most consistent in the SEC? The answer, unfortunately, has been Kentucky. Micaiah: I think it's Georgia. Simeon Schlicher: It's Georgia and Kentucky, right? So there's your game. It's a very easy answer. And then you pick the better team, which until Will Stein proves us wrong is Georgia. Micaiah: All right, fair enough. I I I would say Georgia L L S U right now. but that's just me. All right. We can Simeon Schlicher: Of course you would. I'll I'll book your f I'll book your flight to Baton Rouge and get you s upset on knee pads. Calm down. Micaiah: All right, all right. You you you do that. I'm not his type. I don't do hot yoga and I'm not nineteen years old. Simeon Schlicher: Come on. Micaiah: embarrassment of the week. Who is Robert? You're you wanna go first? Okay. Simeon Schlicher: before we get that, can I just say the fun fact that I've been holding in for like 20 minutes? Micaiah: Yeah, sure. Roberto Con Queso: Let's hear it. Simeon Schlicher: Oregon's new OC, interim OC, has been around. Okay. He was their assistant QB coach. He was Wyom last stop was at Wyoming for offense coordinator and QB. Here's the fun fact. He played college football for a little school called Northern Oregon. Iowa from nineteen eighty nine to nineteen ninety two. I'm guessing Robert is able to give me why that's a fun fact. Roberto Con Queso: checked out and checked back in. I'm sorry. I heard Northern Iowa and then Simeon Schlicher: You're so mean. You're so mean. Okay, so Northern Iowa in the early nineties. Quarterback. Who do you think Roberto Con Queso: Okay. Quarterback. Simeon Schlicher: of? This is the funnest fact of all NFL fun facts. Micaiah: Northern Iowa? I don't know. Simeon Schlicher: Kirk Warner. This was a this the the Roberto Con Queso: Okay. Kurt Warner. Simeon Schlicher: new offensive coordinator was either Kirk Warner was one of his backups, they it weirded, or he was Kirk Warner's backup for a season. He played college football with Kirk Warner. I thought that was a fun Kirk Warner. Sorry, that's on me. Micaiah: Kurt Warner. Okay. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah, Kurt. It's That's I thought you were saying Kirk and I'm like What? Kurt. Simeon Schlicher: Kurt. Micaiah: Who who yeah, okay. Simeon Schlicher: Kurt. Micaiah: All right, well Simeon, with your fun fact now out of the way, who's your embarrassment Simeon Schlicher: Thanks. Micaiah: of the week? Simeon Schlicher: no no no. Robert has the first embarrassment of the week. I have to think of what my embarrassment of the week is. Micaiah: Okay, fine. I have one as well, but go ahead, Robert. Roberto Con Queso: I'm I am going to sit here and say big twelve officiating. Simeon Schlicher: Yeah. Micaiah: Okay, that's the type of segment I want explain. Roberto Con Queso: We are we are essentially back to back weeks where Big Twelve officiating has been atrocious. We whether it was last week with BYU Notre Dame, where should the pass interference, no pass interference, what have you, one second, no seconds, whatever. You come to this week, BYU UCF. The the last five minutes no well, not even. It was the last forty five seconds were just a shit show. And the overtimes were I'm like, what is going on? We have flags being thrown for things that really aren't penalties or things that should be penalties that are and it it I'm just flabbergassing on how bad officiating has been this year. Micaiah: Time was taken off the clock that shouldn't have been taken off the clock. as well as well in Roberto Con Queso: Yeah, it I don't Micaiah: that game, yeah. Roberto Con Queso: and I'm me and you talked about it and you brought up the best like solution is you make it a standardized officiating. Like each conference does not get their own officiating. You have officiates of the NCAA Simeon Schlicher: N C double Roberto Con Queso: and that is who goes to these games. Like the PIAA does not have well, this coach is from Millersburg, so he's gonna only do Millersburg games. This coach is from Lancaster, so he's only going to do Lancaster games. No, they go all over the place because they're part of the PIAA as a whole. So Simeon Schlicher: I think they are assigned to conference. So I think that was a really bad example, but your point is proven. They're pe Roberto Con Queso: Was it I thought the I thought they kinda did everything though. Micaiah: No Simeon Schlicher: No, they're mostly tied to they're mostly tied to a conference. So like if you live in Micaiah: Well that Simeon Schlicher: like central PA, you're gonna be tied to like I think it's called the mid the mid mid conference, so like Harrisburg area. Micaiah: But that's fine. Who's there? They have a governing body over them, right? It's not the conference that is over them. R Robert, Simeon Schlicher: Right. And all of these refs are N C double A certified. Roberto Con Queso: Bad example turned good, baby. Bad example turned good. Micaiah: Robert, right. Task failed successfully. Roberto Con Queso: That's what we talk about right there. Simeon Schlicher: Task failed successfully. Micaiah: I my embarrassment of the week, I'm I'm gonna take the low-hanging fruit, Jason, back. Easy. When you haven't when you haven't scored a A touchdown that off of a d that wasn't off a defensive turnover in three games, when you're scoring 33% less points than the than last year with a guy who was sleeping with his assistant all year. When you have two quarterbacks, one uber talented, the other one appears to be just as talented, just they look lost. You're not doing anything to help either one of them. Your running game is atrocious, and that's one thing Michigan for the last 10 years has been really good at is running downhill. And then you try to run vertically. And every time you run vertically, it goes for negative yardage. What are you doing? You have zero adaptability. And that is why he's my embarrassment of the week. His adaptability is negative, is negative whatever. Like if I through five weeks at the at through September, if outside zones were not working, I would cross them all off my play, my play call. And I've never called plays, but I know for a fact that if they weren't working through the first month of the season, they're not gonna magically turn on and work. Jason Beck, you're Captain Boring's embarrassment of the week. Simon, you got someone? I can give you one if you want. Simeon Schlicher: I I feel like it should be me, but honestly, I am actually gonna Micaiah: You can be your own embarrassment. Simeon Schlicher: I'm gonna be my own embarrassment because my games of the week were cr just i I went from one hundred to zero last week. I don't even remember what they were, but I remember looking back and being like, dude, none of these games panned out. Micaiah: in in your pick you got the most pick right though. Simeon Schlicher: In the toilet bowl. Yes. The thing I should be proud of. Micaiah: Well, no, both. In both. Both the toilet bowl and the other one, you got the most picks right. Simeon Schlicher: Am I f I'm not even five hundred yet? So why are we talking Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Simeon Schlicher: about this? The only thing I am owed this week is an apology because this is week number two that I've been here. But we've already covered that, so I won't hold you to it. Cause you're gonna hit the sound Micaiah: Okay. All right. Simeon Schlicher: bite and then that's gonna hurt my feelings and then Yeah, no, don't hit the s don't hit the sound bite, okay? Micaiah: I I was looking for the soundbite, but I can never find it. Okay. All right. Let's fast forward and look at the game and at some games upcoming this week, which I think, again, with how the season's been going, I think we are in line for another wild wacky weekend. We had seven ranked teams go down last week, and I think a good handful of more teams can go down this week. One ranked team is a ranked on ranked violence. Arizona taking on Texas Tech. Tech coming off of a loss against Cincinnati, in which Cincinnati ran for seven yards a pop. Arizona brings into the game a passing offense that ranks ninth nationally and a scoring offense that ranks 21st nationally. Texas Tech is back home. Arizona has a mediocre defense, but a top 30 defense all in. But Texas Tech's offense is not nearly as good rushing as it was last year, only rushing for about 190 yards per game. Way better than Michigan, but that's neither here nor there. But they're 69th in passing. They're really hurting in that area. And they're only 26th in scoring. And their passing defense is 126th in the country. So the one thing Arizona is really good at, Texas Tech is really bad at defensively. how are you guys seeing this one play out? Simeon Schlicher: I don't know, Texas Tech is not him this year, which surprised me. But then again, they I I Micaiah: I've been saying that for five weeks now, but yeah. Simeon Schlicher: I know, but to me it's just like meh the vibe is they I I think they got thrown off a lot by the Brandon Soresby thing. Like I think they bet a lot, and then when that didn't happen and there was probably distractions in the locker room, how could there not be? Like, to me, I'm not even I'm writing the season off for Texas Tech. So go to a better analytical answer from Robert. Roberto Con Queso: it's not gonna be much very much more analytic. But i Arizona is kinda they're they're the hot team right now. You got tech you Tech Tech's coming off of a pretty disappointing loss. You should win those games. You lose, y you lost to Cincinnati. come on. It's not even the best team in Ohio. what are you doing? I think Arizona's just gonna stay hot. I mean FITDA is still throwing the ball like it means business. It they could run the ball better, but that's pretty much what Texas Tech's strength is, is running the ball more effectively. But I just don't see I don't see Texas Texas Tech's offense outperforming Arizona's. Micaiah: I would I would agree with you. All right, we're gonna go east of where that game's being taken place to the city of Jacksonville for the world's largest outdoor cocktail party. I understand the city of Jacksonville no longer wants the game called that for one reason or another, but I'm going to call it this because it's amazing. Florida number seventeen, Florida Gators taking on Georgia Bulldogs. So again, another ranked team is going to go down on Saturday. So we are now at least up to two. Simeon Schlicher: Pause. Micaiah: Yep. Simeon Schlicher: I regret to inform you this game is being held in Atlanta. Micaiah: Well, now I'm sad. Simeon Schlicher: I am too. Micaiah: All right. So maybe maybe now we can call it the world's largest outdoor c but it's not even outside. All right. Well, that nickname's done and gone. So anyway, Florida, Georgia, the rivalry. Georgia off of a bye week, coming off of the upset of when Albert upset them. Three turnovers in that game, very unlike Georgia. Their defense is being phenomenal. They are top 15 in almost every single category on defense. Their offense is solid, top 30 in every single category on offense. The Florida offense, top half in the country in every, and then their defense is where they lack. Also, Florida is 120th in defense in defensive third down percentage, allowing opponents to convert 43% of the time. That plays right into Georgia hands because they're seventh offensively in converting third downs. Florida is also 126th in FPS, averaging 75 penalty yards a game. Georgia's 51st. So Florida's being very undisciplined. Simeon, go back to your Florida theory here. people might say, hey, this is ripe for a pick with an upset. I'm gonna say that this is just ripe for a Georgia blowout. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Micaiah: George's mad and everything everything's playing in their hand. You see anything differently, Rock? Roberto Con Queso: No, this this should be an absolute route. Georgia should their defense should stand up strong. I don't are they gonna be playing mad? Maybe. But Florida's offense and defense are just so wishy washy and temperamental that they there's nothing consistent about Florida except for their inconsistency. So I I'm at Georgia at least by three touchdowns. Micaiah: Also, who's gonna start a quarterback for Florida? Is it gonna be Aaron Philo or is it gonna be that true freshman as well? Can they get Jaden Baugh going right in one of those games? Simeon, did you wanna touch on this or may I go on? Simeon Schlicher: I'm trying to figure out why it's being why it's temporarily moved from Jacksonville. Because it is temporarily moved from Jacksonville. Micaiah: Wonderful. When you find that out, interrupt Roberto Con Queso: No. Micaiah: me. We're gonna go Simeon Schlicher: Okay. Micaiah: to the American, to the two teams right behind UTSA. And that would be the Army Black Knights in the American taking on the Memphis Tigers. Both one's Army's four and one, Memphis is three and one. They both have two losses overall on the season. Yes, Sammy, you font figured out. Simeon Schlicher: Okay. I guess I didn't know this Everbank Stadium where Jac in Jacksonville is being having major renovations done. so it's leaving for two years. They are keeping the neutral site, and I put that in quote in question marks because we all know that Mercedes Mercedes Benz Stadium is just Georgia's second home stadium. So that it's taking going there this year and it's going to Raymond James in Tampa next year, and then it will be back. for twenty twenty eight with a contract through twenty thirty one at the latest. Micaiah: All right. Thank you for the fun fact. Simeon Schlicher: You're welcome. Micaiah: Memphis's offense, five hundred and nine yards a game. I would just like to see Michigan get to half of that, if I'm being totally honest. I'm so jealous of all these teams that can score and score and score. Memphis's defense, though, is hot garbage. 93rd in the country in yards per game, 66th in scoring, 103rd in rushing, 64th in passing. Army's offense, you ignore the passing stats because those are just irrelevant. They're first in the nation in rushing, 345 yards per game. They're 32nd in scoring. They've got a solid middle of the road based on rank defense. 54th in the country allowing points per game with 22.1. Army is also the sixth least penalized team, averaging just 35 penalty yards on the game. And Army, here's the big stat of the game, though. Army is 128th in defensive third down percentage, allowing opponents to convert 50% of the time, just about. Memphis is 49th on offense, so it's kind of like the Georgia-Florida game. triple option versus the modern passing attack. Robert, how are you seeing this play out? Roberto Con Queso: I'm envisioning a lower scoring game just because Army's they're gonna Army is going to take the air out of the ball. How do you beat a team that passes a lot? You keep the ball on the ground, kill the clock, a good old American drive, take two quarters to get the entire field. I still envision Memphis winning this game because Army's not built to play from behind. And all it's gonna take is for them to get a a small ten point lead and our army's gotta change some things pretty fast. but yeah, it's g it's it should be a normal Academy style game. Micaiah: our army the the fact that our everyone knows that the triple option is coming, but army can still put up as many rushing and points as what they do will always astound me. And maybe it's because teams just don't see it. The final game of the day that we will be previewing is number two Ohio State going on the road without Julian Sain the rest of the year. Backup quarterback. They do have the best player in the country in Jeremiah Smith, one of the best wide receiver talents ever. Paying Pains me to say, but it is a hundred percent true. So the offensive stats for Ohio State mean almost nothing in this game. The one that means the most is they're 73rd in rushing yards. They're gonna have to lean on their running backs. USC's defense is 34th 34th in the country allowing rushing yards with 115. That offensive line, Brian Day's gonna challenge that offensive line and require them to be leaned on for this game. And USC, they're gonna have to find a way to run the ball. They're 106th in the country. I'm sure the negative negative 17 rushing yard performance against Wisconsin doesn't help that. But they're not going to be able to go out there and just throw the ball. That defensive line and front seven for Ohio State is just going to wreak havoc on Jaden Maiava if they can't find a way to run the ball. So I I really do think in this game Who establishes the more consistent ground game is gonna win this game? Do you see this going anything differently or do you see another key to the game other than that? Roberto Con Queso: the big key is gonna be the quarterback play for Ohio State. In my opinion. we saw him play a little bit at the end of the Indiana game. It wasn't pretty. It wasn't great. Is that the Micaiah: He did what he needed to do, yeah. Roberto Con Queso: is it kind of the trend that he's that you Ohio State's gonna be kind of stuck in is like not great quarterback play, but kind of 50 50 quarterback play because you know if that's how it's going to be, you really need that offensive line to hold up and you need that ground game to be thousand times better than what it's been. And for USC, you just got to play a complete game. Figure it out. You get you get you essentially have endless amounts of cash. It's LA. And you're telling me. That you can't run the ball at all. Micaiah: You went on a rant but the last week, but for the team that they're facing. So you've Roberto Con Queso: Yeah, Micaiah: you've done this same rant now twice. Roberto Con Queso: I just it I don't understand. and for the the fact that they're six and two is like like the USC is six and two is the more impressive part because it just means that they've been able to be as bad as they are on their worst days and still win the games. Which can you do that against Ohio State? I don't know. The defense is their Ohio State's defense is fairly well, fairly good. They're not great like they've been in recent years, but they're still very good. Offensively, they took a hit without having saying now. Or can they get the ball to, Jeremiah? Is it gonna have to be a different type of it's not maybe it might not be as many deep balls. Maybe he's gonna start, the hitch and goes, the slants, comeback routes. Is that what this is gonna turn into? And is Bo Jackson gonna have a set of legs to run? Like it's It's two teams that we got a lot of questions on now that we didn't have we didn't have as many questions for Ohio State, but now without saying, now we got a lot. Micaiah: Yeah. Roberto Con Queso: Cause how how do they move forward? Micaiah: how the spread is Ohio State by six and a half. I have no idea with the backup quarterback. They are coming off of a bye. This is also East Going West playing a night game in the Big Ten. Historically, that has not panned out for well for the road team. So, can USC create more chaos? We shall find out. All right. It is everyone's favorite time of the podcast when Captain Boring stops talking and Robert gets to talk. We will get Robert CFP lineup. That has changed a lot in the last two weeks. Roberto Con Queso: Boy has it ever. All right, number one should be no shock, still Miami. Number two, Ohio State. Again, should be no shock. number three, Georgia. Number four Notre Dame. Number five, Utah. Micaiah: Having them youth. Roberto Con Queso: six Indiana. I'm moving Indiana back because it you cannot play the way you did. Micaiah: You actually moved them up. They were seven last week. Roberto Con Queso: Okay. Well I went off of how they have them actually ranked in the they have at five or whatever. No, you're good. You're Micaiah: In the AP. That that that's fine. I'm sorry to interrupt. Continue your thoughts. Roberto Con Queso: good. two, four, six number seven is UCLA. Yeah, I know. Number eight. Micaiah: yeah. Roberto Con Queso: Go ahead. is a BYU. Nine is Kentucky. Ten is Texas Tech. Eleven is Bama, and the only reason Texas Tech is ahead of Bama is because Bama is the first two loss team. Micaiah: Okay. Roberto Con Queso: And Texas Tech only has one loss. So I'm so that's how I'm f filtering that at least. And then tw Micaiah: That's I'm fine with this. Roberto Con Queso: and then twelve is Boise State. Micaiah: My biggest argument is UCLA, but my biggest argument it no longer applies. They've now had multiple weeks and the Wisconsin win at home looks a lot better with based on what they keep doing and they keep winning, right? So they're doing it with backup quarterback. It just feels like I'm waiting for UCLA to lose and and be like, okay, they're the same owned UCLA. I'm not sure that I'm getting it. So I have to rephrase my mind. I don't hate any of this. I really don't. I I think that this is pretty good. are mostly what are you laughing at? Simeon Schlicher: You'll find out. Keep going. Micaiah: Our mostly college football fantasy team. Did we get a win? So we're one and seven. Roberto Con Queso: No, we had a lot of people on buys. We actually got we we got hammered. Simeon Schlicher: RIP. Micaiah: Okay. Simeon Schlicher: Hey, listen, I got cut from the family league, family guillotine league, okay? And I will let it know for everyone missing me, 'cause I know everyone's missing me for the podcast. We are in the semi finals of the Spooky Nook Sports Co ed volleyball recreation level league. So just to let everyone know. Yeah. Micaiah: So what's gonna be your excuse to miss the podcast after volleyball's done? Simeon Schlicher: Absolute most likely nothing. You see how I Roberto Con Queso: I have to go fabricate a whole house. Simeon Schlicher: caught you see how I caught myself? Micaiah: Yeah. Yeah. Sometimes I feel like calling your wife and being like, Can your husband do the podcast? And Simeon Schlicher: That would be hilarious. Be like, can you cut my hair and can you do the podcast, please? Micaiah: everyone, we do have a new name for the funny names list. This is the punter for LSU. His name is Hudson Cox. K A Roberto Con Queso: Classic. Micaiah: K pronounce cock. Simeon Schlicher: I'm guessing if I had to guess he's from Australia. Micaiah: He is good job. Yes. Simeon Schlicher: Yeah. Yeah. Micaiah: Most punters. Roberto Con Queso: Was it the Hudson or was it the Cox? Simeon Schlicher: It was definitely the cock. Roberto Con Queso: Okay. Simeon Schlicher: Yeah. Big giveaway. Yeah. Micaiah: Robert, highest ticket, lowest ticket. Roberto Con Queso: Lowest ticket. Surprisingly, SMU Syracuse, four bucks. Micaiah: Is that at Syracuse? Okay. Simeon Schlicher: So Yeah, at Syracuse in the Dome. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Simeon Schlicher: SMU's Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Simeon Schlicher: favored by ten and ca half. Makaiah, before we go to largest ticket, would you rather see that game twelve Micaiah: Mm-hmm. Simeon Schlicher: PM ESP ESPN two in this is just live. Would you rather see that game live or would you rather see a six dollar game Illinois at Maryland? Micaiah: probably SMU just 'cause they they're the better team, better quarterback. Roberto Con Queso: In Maryland, I hate that stadium. Simeon Schlicher: Ha ha ha. Roberto Con Queso: It's in such a terrible location. Micaiah: Wait, who is playing Maryland? Simeon Schlicher: Illinois. Micaiah: Illinois. And Illinois's not great either, man. Ugh. Simeon Schlicher: It is not a great location. One of these years we'll go on a stadium tour. We'll do the podcast live. Micaiah: highest ticket. Simeon Schlicher: highest ticket. Roberto Con Queso: highest ticket should be no surprise, but Florida, Georgia at two hundred and nineteen dollars. Micaiah: That's not near nearly as high as I thought it would be. Simeon Schlicher: Mickayah same question one hundred four this is a different Auburn at Olmiss Micaiah: Okay. Simeon Schlicher: or where is it down here one three Washington at Nebraska Micaiah: Mm. I I again I I would take Trinidad. I'll take Trinidad Chambliss. However, I do want to see a game in Lincoln. Simeon Schlicher: Yeah, that would be that would be Micaiah: That would be that's that's one of the Colosseums in college football to go to Memorial Stadium. Simeon Schlicher: yeah. Yeah. Micaiah: Absolutely. All right. Simeon, I guess I owe you an apology. your games up until last week have that the games that they, whoever they are, don't want you to watch, have actually been pretty good games. And we have given you a lot of crap for that and you have deserved it. And we've given you a lot of crap for double booking yourself and you still deserve that. And I'm not apologizing for that. But I will apologize Simeon Schlicher: Yeah. Micaiah: to you for making fun of this this segment because it has actually been half decent. So congratulations. Simeon Schlicher: Yeah, I'm realizing that as we get later in the season it's a lot harder to find har good games. Micaiah: Yeah, isn't it? Simeon Schlicher: I am Well played. Well played. All right. A little Micaiah: Just give us your give us your games and let's get out of here. Simeon Schlicher: a little Tuesday night action or whatever frickin' day of the week. I was right. So watch it tonight at eight PM on no, seven PM on the CBS Sports Network. Delaware, Western Kentucky. Delaware hung sixty one points on whoever the F they played, Missouri State, I think, last week. It's gonna be a good game. Their favorite Western Kentucky's favorite by one and a half. as Robert says, Pred U versus Pred U. that's Purdue versus Penn State. He just took out the the D and the E and Roberto Con Queso: Well that's because someone misspelled Purdue first and it was pred U E and I like, Well I'll just correct it and just put a space in between so it's Pred U. Simeon Schlicher: So, Purdue, who's on a roll. I just I think this is a game that Penn State plays down and then Purdue makes interesting. And then Micaiah: What do you mean Pensei plays down? They they can't get any lower. Roberto Con Queso: All they can do is play up. Simeon Schlicher: They're not Rutgers in Maryland. Micaiah: I I don't know about that. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Simeon Schlicher: All right. and then Miami versus Unk. I I I that game probably is gonna suck. It's probably gonna be Miami by like seventy five, but I had to pick one and that was the one that was left. Micaiah: I don't hate that last game. I think Bill Belichick I think Bill Belichick's Simeon Schlicher: Yeah. A defense. Yeah. Micaiah: got a little something for Miami. Simeon Schlicher: He can call a defense against Tyreek Hill. I think he can call a defense against the young Tyreek Hill. Micaiah: In Malachi Tony. All right. Simeon, I need to save my voice. You do the read. Simeon Schlicher: okay. Everyone knows that college sports fans best friend is a comfy couch. It's the games of the week brought to you by Kindred Couches. They got a huge selection of sectionals and anything that you may want. sectionals, I don't know what you call them. Things with L shaped couches. Just a lot of different things. Lamps. They're growing. Movement stuff they're bringing in. Anyway. Use promo code JT was short. This is the important part. Use promo code JT was short either in person or online to get $150 off, $1,500 or more excluded taxes and excludes taxes and delivery. Terms and conditions apply, shop and store at KindredCouches dot com. Again, use promo code JT was short for a hundred dollars off any order over fifteen hundred dollars. Roberto Con Queso: I I just have to ask, are you watching a nuclear explosion right now? Micaiah: It does look like that, yeah. Yeah. Simeon Schlicher: Why I'm so bright. Roberto Con Queso: You are insanely bright. Simeon Schlicher: I have I have I'm trying to look good, okay? There you go. That's a little bit better. Not as washed out. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. I was like, wow. Simeon Schlicher: Listen, no one watches. We're all ugly. There no one's watching this podcast. Roberto Con Queso: That's true. Simeon Schlicher: They're all listening to it. Makaiah, I can go here. these are the games of the week. I'm assuming you want to start with these over over the toilet bowl. Okay. Micaiah: Yes, that is correct. Simeon Schlicher: All right. Robert is still in the league how lead. However, Makaiah is keeping up. Micaiah: Robert, you have to now keep track of your own picks in the document. Simeon Schlicher: Yeah. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah, why have you keep checking out the mini now? Simeon Schlicher: He Makaiah is thirty and twenty nine. Robert is thirty seven and twenty two, and I am still in the basement at twenty six and thirty three. First game up tonight at eight PM. It's the late game tonight. It's Sam Houston. wait, no, that's not the late game. It's it's Sam Houston in Missouri. State. It is the late game tonight. I Micaiah: Nope, that's the toy that's the t that's the toilet bowl button. Simeon Schlicher: wrong one. Arizona Texas Tech. That ways makes way more sense. That makes way more sense, dude. Robert, who you got? Roberto Con Queso: I am rolling with Arizona. Simeon Schlicher: Yeah, gimme Texas Tech, Micaiah. Micaiah: I'm also gonna roll with Arizona. Better pat passing game against a terrible pass defense. Simeon Schlicher: I'll probably be wrong. L w world's largest outdoor cocktail party with the correction. Very important. This game is a home game for Georgia in Atlanta. Robert, who you got? Roberto Con Queso: I'm gonna roll with the doll, so I'm going Joja. Micaiah: I'm also gonna roll with the dogs and I would roll with the dogs to cover. Simeon Schlicher: Yeah, I think that's a fair statement. Florida's shaky at best. Minnesota, Indiana. Minnesota with the upset in a rivalry game against Iowa. 13 10. Huge big ten game because it was twenty three points total. Give me the under on what whatever it is on no. On this game, yeah, actually give me the under on this game. Give me I think I think Kirk makes an adjustment. Dimmi Indiana. Roberto Con Queso: yeah, I'm just gonna roll with Indiana. Minnesota's I just don't think has an answer for anything. Micaiah: I don't know if Indiana has an answer offensively either. Minnesota's defense is a lot worse than Michigan's and Ohio State's, but I give me Indiana at home because they're at home, but I expect Simeon Schlicher: Mm. Micaiah: this to be a twenty to thirteen game as well. Simeon Schlicher: Yeah. Low scoring game. Micaiah: Robert. Simeon Schlicher: w what are you laughing at? Micaiah: Just what he wrote in the in the doc continue. Simeon Schlicher: okay. Utah, Cincinnati, Cincinnati coming off an upset of who was it last week? Micaiah: Taxes tax. Thank you for listening. Simeon Schlicher: Nice. Yeah. I was doing research when you you guys were having that conversation. Listen, if Robert can't Kurt Horner can't listen to me, I cannot listen to you sometimes, okay? If we're gonna go all to ADHD, whatever. Utah, Cincinnati, Robert, who you got? Roberto Con Queso: it's it's gonna be a full Utah, full Utah kind of day. Simeon Schlicher: Yeah. False soaking it in. Micaiah: I I disagree. I think Utah coming off of a big win. They're due for a loss at some point in time. Nipper to different place and Cincinnati can run the ball really, really well. Gimme Cincinnati to pull the upset and just open the big twelve up even more than it's already open. Simeon Schlicher: give me Utah as well. I just I they got good stuff going on. I'm just gonna go with the sure thing for right now. Ohio State USC Micaiah, correct me. You said this game East Coast going west coast, west coast going east coast. Micaiah: We're east coast going west coast. Yep. Simeon Schlicher: So so we're going to the Los Angeles Memorial Stadium. Robert, who you got? Roberto Con Queso: I'm going to I'm gonna I'm gonna go with the upset. I'm gonna go USC. I think it'll be close. Yeah, I'm just gonna go with them until Ohio State proves me wrong. So Micaiah: Did did you type your a pick in before or after my pick? Simeon Schlicher: Me or Robert? Roberto Con Queso: I Micaiah: Robert. Roberto Con Queso: can't I I'm not low enough to see your picks. Micaiah: Okay, great. I'm I'm with you, Robert. I actually think better quarterback at they play better at home. Give me the upset. I just Ohio State's prime for the taking. I'm it might take them a few weeks to figure out this whole backup quarterback situation. Give me the upset. Simeon Schlicher: Yeah, they got a few of them and it's still question mark regarding them. Give me OSU, I think they'll figure it out. We're hoping for the best here. Army Memphis. I'm assuming this is gonna be a very slow game, Robert. Who you got? Roberto Con Queso: J I'm gonna go with Memphis. I think the air raid is just gonna keep Army kind of at bay and make them have to get out of their comfort zone. but I do think that Army does slow the game down tremendously. Micaiah: I I I'm in agreement with all of your points, Robert. I I think this game is close. It's a one possession game at the end of the day because Army has just taken the air out of the ball and slowed the whole thing down, but give me Memphis in that very good passing attack to to get it done at home. Simeon Schlicher: Ryan Ryan Silverfield is looking like the worst hire for of of this past class. So good on Charlie Huff for doing what he has. with this keeping like keeping what Ryan had going. I'm changing my answer from what's in the dock. I am also gonna go Memphis. Texas State, Boise State, Makaiah, I'm I'm Micaiah: Big game in the pack twelve. Simeon Schlicher: so is obviously Is this the only competition Boise's gonna have basically all year? Micaiah: they play Oregon State later and those that will be for the top spot. Yeah. Simeon Schlicher: Okay. Which, mind you, for later their wide receiver re signed with them for twenty twenty seven. So they have that stud for another year. Roberto Con Queso: I hate that that's a thing. Simeon Schlicher: I know, right? Robert, who you got in this game though, against Texas State, Boise State? Roberto Con Queso: I'm gonna keep rolling with Mad Max and Boise State. Simeon Schlicher: It's hard not to. Mackay, you picking not Boise State? Micaiah: Yeah, no, I'm gonna complete the sweep and go with Boise State. Simeon Schlicher: I spelled their name wrong, but that's okay. All right, to everyone's new favorite, thank you. to everyone's new favorite segment, only because I am winning right now with a score with an eight point lead. With a two point lead over everybody. Robert, that's not where that goes. Put it in the right spot or don't do the homework at all. Roberto Con Queso: my god, this guy shows up for two times in a row and he starts doing this shit. Simeon Schlicher: All right. Now the actual toilet bowl. Now again, because I don't know it's the toilet bowl, we have to pick the loser of the game, which is important for whatever reason. Tonight's game is Sam Houston versus Missouri State Roberts. Roberto Con Queso: Missouri State? Simeon Schlicher: It's gonna be the loser. Roberto Con Queso: Yep. Simeon Schlicher: Gimme gimme Sam Houston to be the loser. Makayah. Micaiah: I'm also gonna go with Sam Houston. Simeon, you also have to go first because you're winning. Yes, you're winning the toilet bowl currently, so Simeon Schlicher: is that how that works? Okay, I didn't know that's how we were working. Okay, Tulane, Charlotte. Love this. Tulane's only getting minus ten against Charlotte, which goes to show you how bad Tulane is this year. So I'm picking the loser and it's gonna be Charlotte. Micaiah: I am also gonna pick Charlotte, even though I can never spell it, but give me Charlotte to lose this game. Roberto Con Queso: I also took Charlotte because I to be honest with you to honestly, I ain't got a clue about these teams. So I that's why that's why I'm just picking Micaiah: That's the point. Yeah. Yeah, that's ki that's the point. Roberto Con Queso: So I'm picking Simeon Schlicher: Cal had a fun game. I think they were in it for three quarters of whoever they played. When I checked the score, I went, hey, look, Cal's actually holding on. They were playing SMU. It was the first quarter. That's what it was. And then I looked down at the score and went, SMU won. Okay. So Cal, NC State. NC State just fired their coach. There's always a bounce back game when you fire a coach. So give me Cal. Micaiah: I will take NC State because they fired their coach and Cal they they have the better quarterback I'm gonna say. So give me N C State to lose this game. Roberto Con Queso: I took Cal. Cal's gonna lose. Simeon Schlicher: Now is is this game a toilet bowl because Rutgers is in it? 'Cause I thought the Micaiah: No it Simeon Schlicher: rule was too low level in their conference teams. Micaiah: You ha yeah, well that's that's what this is. Roberto Con Queso: Well, they both are. Simeon Schlicher: Right, but doesn't Michigan have two conference wins? Micaiah: You have to Nope. They have one. Simeon Schlicher: okay. Well there you go. Then this is perfect. Michigan Rutgers. Micaiah: You have to have a l either losing record or losing conference record, both teams. Simeon Schlicher: Got it. Okay. Thank you for clarifying that. Give me Rutgers to utterly sh sh crap the bed. Micaiah: if not now, then win Jason Beck. Ruckers is like a hundred and twenty second nationally on defense in total in in total defense. If not now, then win. Figure Simeon Schlicher: They're trash. Yeah. Yeah. Micaiah: this out. you get Ruckers, then you get Michigan State, and then you get and then you get your big games at the end of the year. Figure this out now, or just pack your bags and go back to Utah. Give me Rutgers to lose the game in a big way. Roberto Con Queso: I took Rutgers as well. I did that team's just bad. Bad, bad, bad. Simeon Schlicher: I don't actually I don't know. Clearly it's at the bottom. KSU's at the bottom. I know Colorado probably doesn't have a single conference win if I had to guess. I really don't want to pick against Eon, but also if not now then win. So gimme Colorado to lose the game. Micaiah: also I'm I'm yes, give me Colorado. I think just Kansas State is the better team. Roberto Con Queso: I also took Colorado. Good job, guys. that means that Kansas State is about to get blown out. Simeon Schlicher: Yeah. Sweet. Micaiah: Yeah. Simeon Schlicher: It's a good day when you see Temple because not only is their school trash, but so is their football program. Get your own stadium. Like for real. Have some sort of identity that isn't just that place that you can only go to school but can't walk outside of the the campus or you'll get shot or stabbed or whatever. give me Temple to lose this game. Micaiah: give me East Carolina just to be different. Simeon Schlicher: That's fair. Roberto Con Queso: I took temple. Simeon Schlicher: Kansas TCU sucks that TCU's on this list. I had them, I think they were one one of my games last week. Give me Kansas. I don't know what happened to their Micaiah: Give me Kansas as well. Simeon Schlicher: that program. Roberto Con Queso: I took Kansas and Simeon Schlicher: Colorado State, Utah State. I don't even know. This is Mountain Westball, isn't it? Gimme Colorado State. Micaiah: Give me Colorado State as well. I'm not sure that they have a defensive coordinator. Roberto Con Queso: Yeah. Micaiah: That's the only story I know. Simeon Schlicher: Well, someone's calling the place. Roberto Con Queso: It's I don't know. But I took Colorado State mainly because they they could not stop water coming into a boat. Micaiah: Simeon, this final game, Southern Miss UL Monroe, may be the toilet bowl of all toilet bowls. I think Simeon Schlicher: Yeah. tell me why. Micaiah: that it is one win apiece, UL Monroe against Southern Miss. well, each team has one win apiece. These teams are so bad. This is for the ultimate toilet bowl. and I will go. Simeon Schlicher: See you say that, but there's still a third of the season left. Micaiah: g give me Southern Miss to lose this game. Simeon Schlicher: Same. Roberto Con Queso: I took you L Munroe. Simeon Schlicher: Just to be different for fun. Roberto Con Queso: I there wasn't so much to be different. I just put them on there 'cause I was like, you know what? What are they? The Warhawks. They got cool helmets sometimes. Simeon Schlicher: I think they're the Golden Eagles. Micaiah: Sure, sure. Roberto Con Queso: Whatever they are. Yeah. Simeon Schlicher: you're talking about UNL Monroe? Who knows? We're getting out of here. Makkay is dying. He's turning up the music a little bit so you guys can hear it. Nun no one makes it to this far anyway, so I don't even know why I'm talking right now. I love you all. I will see you next week for the final. Micaiah: Wash your hands, you filthy animals. Bye bye. Simeon Schlicher: Volleyball final.
