- 0:16Speaker 1: Patriots Unfiltered, presented by Toyota.com. I don't know. Is it
- 0:22Speaker 1: a team that we know or a team that we
- 0:25Speaker 1: kind of don't know? Yeah, but, you know, they just
- 0:27Speaker 1: played Kubiak in the Super Bowl. So I would say.
- 0:30Speaker 2: I believe the Saints turned it over on four consecutive
- 0:32Speaker 2: possessions in that game. I may or not have been
- 0:34Speaker 2: paying attention.
- 0:35Speaker 1: To that one, Mike.
- 0:36Speaker 2: What are you doing with the Olympics?
- 0:40Speaker 1: What the hell was that? Fred made a quick mention
- 0:43Speaker 1: about Evan using stats possibly to erroneously pick his games.
- 0:48Speaker 1: That's why he's so bad.
- 0:49Speaker 3: I say this all the time, and I know it's
- 0:51Speaker 3: going to come off as an excuse. I don't watch
- 0:54Speaker 3: a lot of football on Sundays. What do you think?
- 0:57Speaker 1: I sit in front of a TV? No, stop. I
- 0:59Speaker 1: don't really like... I'm with you.
- 1:02Speaker 3: I understand that, Fred. I don't even look at the scores.
- 1:06Speaker 3: I will say it.
- 1:06Speaker 1: You say that with such disdain. You know, you start
- 1:10Speaker 1: to sound like Eric Scalavito. Fred said that he gets
- 1:12Speaker 1: on the bus and looks at the scores. I'm already
- 1:14Speaker 1: watching the tape when we get on the bus. This
- 1:16Speaker 1: is Patriots Unfiltered. Presented by Toyota.com. Patriots Unfiltered. All right,
- 1:22Speaker 1: welcome to Patriots Unfiltered. It is Thursday here at Gillette Stadium.
- 1:27Speaker 1: And that means Alex is here.
- 1:29Speaker 4: Hi, Alex.
- 1:30Speaker 5: How you doing?
- 1:31Speaker 6: I'm so good.
- 1:32Speaker 5: How are you? You got your red throwback pullover on.
- 1:36Speaker 7: I was hoping someone else would wear it, and we
- 1:37Speaker 7: could be twins, but.
- 1:39Speaker 1: I wore mine yesterday.
- 1:40Speaker 8: I know.
- 1:40Speaker 7: I saw that. No one else did.
- 1:43Speaker 1: Evan's here. Paul's here. Deuce is here.
- 1:45Speaker 3: I'm here.
- 1:45Speaker 1: Whoa, whoa, whoa.
- 1:46Speaker 3: We just talked right over that.
- 1:47Speaker 1: What was that? I'm going to need that again. What's that?
- 1:52Speaker 1: What's that?
- 1:54Speaker 7: My first song. Alex got a song.
- 1:56Speaker 1: It's more of a sting than a song.
- 1:59Speaker 3: It's like a drop. It's a drop.
- 2:01Speaker 7: Is that the terminology?
- 2:02Speaker 1: You are so territorial.
- 2:05Speaker 3: I think they call it a drop in the radio world.
- 2:08Speaker 1: That's great. They got Hayley Williams to do that. Thanks.
- 2:10Speaker 1: Shout out Hayley Williams. No paramour. Doing us a little stink.
- 2:14Speaker 7: They didn't even know I loved Paramore.
- 2:16Speaker 1: This sounds like her, right?
- 2:17Speaker 7: It kind of did.
- 2:18Speaker 1: All right. So we're talking Raiders. This game coming up.
- 2:21Speaker 1: We're talking status of the Patriots injuries. We're talking picks
- 2:26Speaker 1: in the last half hour of the show. So we
- 2:28Speaker 1: almost got to hurry on Thursday. So I guess that's
- 2:32Speaker 1: the topic du jour is the first participation report came
- 2:36Speaker 1: out yesterday. Yeah, it's the talk of the day. Yeah.
- 2:39Speaker 6: Ramondre.
- 2:40Speaker 1: Limited.
- 2:41Speaker 6: Limited.
- 2:42Speaker 2: I think they've got some good news in this injury report, actually.
- 2:44Speaker 2: But I agree, it's the talk of the day. The
- 2:47Speaker 2: Patriots are dealing with some injuries.
- 2:49Speaker 9: Someone will pick up what joke reference that was, too.
- 2:52Speaker 9: That was another one of Deuce's subtle movie references, which.
- 2:54Speaker 1: I don't even think you got. Say it again?
- 2:56Speaker 9: You said the soup du jour, and I said it's
- 2:58Speaker 9: the soup of the day, which is a Dumb and
- 2:59Speaker 9: Dumber reference.
- 3:00Speaker 1: Anyway, sorry, I digress.
- 3:02Speaker 9: It went right over everybody's head.
- 3:03Speaker 1: One of the more overrated comedy movies of all time
- 3:08Speaker 1: is Dumb and Dumber.
- 3:09Speaker 6: Awful.
- 3:10Speaker 9: I watched it 5,000 times freshman year of college. Probably
- 3:13Speaker 9: the detriment of my grades.
- 3:15Speaker 2: You don't like it. Flat out don't like it. Saying
- 3:18Speaker 2: it's overrated and not liking it, that's two different things.
- 3:20Speaker 3: Yeah, I agree.
- 3:20Speaker 1: Overrated is one thing. Yeah, I just didn't find it
- 3:22Speaker 1: that funny. That's the point of it, and I didn't
- 3:27Speaker 1: find it that funny.
- 3:28Speaker 9: I think the line where, I hope you're not using
- 3:29Speaker 9: the toilet, it's broken, that line to me, that got me.
- 3:33Speaker 9: He was indisposed and going to town.
- 3:35Speaker 1: Hack comedy. Is it the.
- 3:37Speaker 7: Genre in general you don't like?
- 3:39Speaker 6: What?
- 3:40Speaker 7: You just don't like the genre in general?
- 3:44Speaker 1: I like physical comedy. I do like that, but it
- 3:48Speaker 1: just wasn't clever. I didn't like something about Mary. Loved it.
- 3:52Speaker 6: Okay.
- 3:53Speaker 1: Loved that movie. Interesting. I know. I guess they got
- 3:55Speaker 1: a little more information.
- 3:57Speaker 2: I would absolutely agree that there's something about Mary is
- 3:59Speaker 2: a lot better than Dumb and Dumber.
- 4:01Speaker 1: It was a lot more successful, too, I think. Love movies.
- 4:03Speaker 9: How'd you get the Frank above the beans? Or how'd
- 4:05Speaker 9: you get the beans above the Frank?
- 4:06Speaker 1: Sorry. All right.
- 4:08Speaker 3: Anyway.
- 4:09Speaker 1: Uh, injuries.
- 4:09Speaker 3: A lot of sexual jokes lately.
- 4:11Speaker 1: Injuries. Four minutes in.
- 4:12Speaker 7: Why are you bringing this back up?
- 4:14Speaker 1: Well, I mean, Ramon Gray was.
- 4:15Speaker 6: He was embarrassed yesterday.
- 4:16Speaker 3: Yeah, he was scarred from it.
- 4:17Speaker 9: You know, Vrabel said he wasn't going to practice, and
- 4:20Speaker 9: then he was listed as limited, which, you know, I
- 4:22Speaker 9: interpreted as there's some leeway with that.
- 4:24Speaker 1: We know guys come out midway through practice and do
- 4:26Speaker 1: a little bit. So, just encouraging.
- 4:28Speaker 9: Also encouraging. We talked to Matt Collins in the locker room. So,
- 4:31Speaker 9: I don't know what's up with him.
- 4:32Speaker 10: And.
- 4:34Speaker 1: Talk about that. Yeah, I mean, yeah, we all thought
- 4:36Speaker 1: I mean, Paul, Paul's not an Achilles.
- 4:38Speaker 3: I didn't. Yeah, I was a little a little late
- 4:40Speaker 3: to the scrum because I didn't expect him to talk.
- 4:42Speaker 3: And so all of a sudden he had a group
- 4:44Speaker 3: of reporters around him. But he seemed like with Ramondre
- 4:48Speaker 3: and him. I know Matt Collins didn't practice yesterday that,
- 4:50Speaker 3: you know, knock on wood, they might have dodged bullets there.
- 4:53Speaker 3: That doesn't sound like those are like. ir stints or
- 4:56Speaker 3: anything like that with either guy so i don't know
- 4:59Speaker 3: about sunday but at least you know long term.
- 5:01Speaker 1: So i hope that the question was directly asked him
- 5:03Speaker 1: how you doing and what's what's going on here.
- 5:06Speaker 3: I didn't hear that question asked directly i'm sure it
- 5:08Speaker 3: was but i might not have gotten in there.
- 5:11Speaker 9: And we got over there late too because we were
- 5:12Speaker 9: talking to kevin byard and then he saw it kind
- 5:14Speaker 9: of going well.
- 5:15Speaker 5: The two of you should not be talking to the
- 5:17Speaker 5: same person I know.
- 5:18Speaker 3: I wasn't talking to Kevin Byer. I was talking to
- 5:19Speaker 3: somebody else. I just didn't. Usually when players are hurt
- 5:22Speaker 3: and are not going to practice, they don't talk like
- 5:24Speaker 3: last night. That's why it's really unique.
- 5:26Speaker 8: But I wonder if that was that a more of
- 5:29Speaker 8: a bill rule. And Vrabel's more.
- 5:31Speaker 1: Relaxed about it. It was a billboard.
- 5:33Speaker 3: But, like, last week we didn't talk to Gonzalez in
- 5:35Speaker 3: his normally scheduled time to talk because he wasn't going
- 5:38Speaker 3: to practice. So, I don't know. It was our bad.
- 5:43Speaker 3: We should have been more on top of it.
- 5:44Speaker 5: But from what other people tweeted, what did he say?
- 5:47Speaker 1: I didn't see anything.
- 5:48Speaker 2: No one tweeted anything specifically about him thinking he was
- 5:51Speaker 2: going to play or not going to play.
- 5:52Speaker 1: No, but did he say, hey, I'm feeling good, I'm hopeful,
- 5:55Speaker 1: or anything?
- 5:56Speaker 2: He was pretty upbeat. I was around him a little bit.
- 5:58Speaker 2: But he really wasn't, in my earshot, was not directly asked,
- 6:02Speaker 2: are you going to play? But he was sort of,
- 6:05Speaker 2: you know, he was kind of stretching out a little bit. Like,
- 6:07Speaker 2: it looked like he was working on the calf. I
- 6:09Speaker 2: would absolutely say that what Evan's original point is accurate.
- 6:13Speaker 2: I think they dodged a bullet of a serious injury.
- 6:15Speaker 2: Doesn't mean it's nothing. I think his status for Sunday
- 6:19Speaker 2: is probably... still a little bit up in the air,
- 6:21Speaker 2: but I think he has a chance to play Sunday
- 6:23Speaker 2: based on the way Vrabel spoke and the fact that
- 6:25Speaker 2: we saw him yesterday. Ramadre Stevenson, I would say the
- 6:30Speaker 2: same thing. I think it looked like it could be something,
- 6:33Speaker 2: and the fact that he's limited would tell me that
- 6:36Speaker 2: they dodged a serious injury. On the flip side, I
- 6:40Speaker 2: would say that's the good news, and that's the reason
- 6:42Speaker 2: why I said there were eight guys, I think, that
- 6:43Speaker 2: didn't practice, and a few of those guys were actually limited.
- 6:48Speaker 2: They weren't there when Evan and his his brethren were
- 6:51Speaker 2: out there charting the attendance. And then guys like Morgan
- 6:55Speaker 2: Moses and Ramondre Stevenson, they actually were limited, which is good.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Instead of missing the whole practice, those guys were only limited.
- 7:02Speaker 1: So I guess he did.
- 7:03Speaker 3: Say that he hopes that he's going to be... Matt
- 7:05Speaker 3: Collins said he hopes that he's going to be able
- 7:08Speaker 3: to play Sunday.
- 7:09Speaker 1: That's... It's encouraging, but amazing. Yeah.
- 7:15Speaker 2: The one bad thing on the injury report to me
- 7:17Speaker 2: is the fact that Christian Gonzalez.
- 7:19Speaker 1: Is still four cornerbacks.
- 7:21Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm not as worried. Carlton Davis didn't practice because
- 7:24Speaker 2: he doesn't practice on Wednesdays a lot of times. But
- 7:27Speaker 2: Christian Gonzalez didn't play last week, and he's still not
- 7:32Speaker 2: back on the practice field. That's a little concern for me.
- 7:35Speaker 2: I kind of in my mind was thinking, okay, he'll
- 7:37Speaker 2: probably be back for this week.
- 7:39Speaker 10: Yep.
- 7:39Speaker 1: I'm ready to say that.
- 7:41Speaker 3: Especially because Craig Woodson, Draymond Jones, and Christian Barmore seem
- 7:45Speaker 3: to have bounced back in like a week from these
- 7:47Speaker 3: shoulder injuries, these like stingers and stuff like that. And
- 7:52Speaker 3: Gonzalez still isn't practicing yet. So that tells me that
- 7:54Speaker 3: his is maybe lingering a little bit longer.
- 7:57Speaker 2: Hopefully he'll be out there today.
- 7:59Speaker 9: We were discussing, though, because a couple years ago we
- 8:01Speaker 9: did have a big shoulder injury. I'd have surgery for it,
- 8:03Speaker 9: but Evan and I I think that was his right shoulder.
- 8:07Speaker 9: And I think this is his left shoulder. So I,
- 8:09Speaker 9: that was a concern of mine. Is it the same shoulder?
- 8:11Speaker 9: Could it have, you know, been re-injured or I think
- 8:13Speaker 9: he had to have what, like labrum surgery.
- 8:15Speaker 11: Yeah.
- 8:16Speaker 1: You know, significant.
- 8:17Speaker 9: So hopefully it's, it's not connected to that.
- 8:20Speaker 12: Hmm.
- 8:21Speaker 6: Okay.
- 8:21Speaker 5: Well, um, does any of this change your outlook for
- 8:26Speaker 5: the game?
- 8:28Speaker 1: I mean, I think for the good or the bad,
- 8:29Speaker 1: I try not to get too wrapped up in it
- 8:30Speaker 1: right now. Let's see today. Who's out there.
- 8:32Speaker 9: Cause I think we've seen enough Wednesday practice, um, guys
- 8:36Speaker 9: that aren't out there that do end up playing. So
- 8:39Speaker 9: let's see today. But, yeah, I mean, I think the cornerbacks.
- 8:41Speaker 1: What's the spread, Paul, the early spread? Three and a half.
- 8:44Speaker 3: Patriots favored.
- 8:45Speaker 6: Yes.
- 8:45Speaker 10: Wow.
- 8:46Speaker 3: Disrespectful. I would say that.
- 8:48Speaker 1: I don't think so. I wouldn't say that's disrespectful.
- 8:50Speaker 2: I think it's a little disrespectful.
- 8:52Speaker 1: Really? To who?
- 8:53Speaker 6: Patriots.
- 8:54Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 8:54Speaker 6: Really?
- 8:54Speaker 1: You think it should be more?
- 8:55Speaker 4: Yep.
- 8:56Speaker 3: That's okay, though. It's not.
- 8:58Speaker 2: I mean, not like I think it should be 20
- 8:59Speaker 2: or anything, but maybe closer to six than three.
- 9:03Speaker 6: Agreed.
- 9:03Speaker 1: Six? Because that's eight. Right. So anyway, it.
- 9:11Speaker 2: Doesn't really impact my game because I kind of went
- 9:14Speaker 2: into the week not expecting Matt Collins to play. So
- 9:18Speaker 2: the fact that he's feeling like, well, don't rule me
- 9:21Speaker 2: out just yet. I might be able to play. It
- 9:23Speaker 2: doesn't really impact my feeling.
- 9:26Speaker 3: The skill players on offense are worth watching. This Raiders
- 9:29Speaker 3: team doesn't have very many receivers, like wide receivers, that
- 9:32Speaker 3: you're really concerned about. Trey Tucker's a nice player. Jalen
- 9:36Speaker 3: Naylor's in a concussion protocol and isn't out of it yet,
- 9:39Speaker 3: so that's trending in the wrong direction for them. Obviously,
- 9:42Speaker 3: Bowers is basically a big receiver, but you're going to
- 9:45Speaker 3: have a whole plan. for Bowers. That's not going to
- 9:47Speaker 3: just be one person's responsibility. So if they had like
- 9:51Speaker 3: a real outside receiver opposite Bowers that, that stressed you,
- 9:55Speaker 3: I'd be like, all right, this cornerback situation's a little
- 9:57Speaker 3: bit dicey, but I mean, I just don't really like
- 10:01Speaker 3: if Marcus Jones is playing and he's got Trey Tucker,
- 10:03Speaker 3: they'll have a plan for Bowers. Like, I feel like
- 10:06Speaker 3: they're in pretty good shape even without Gonzalez.
- 10:09Speaker 5: What about if Davis doesn't play?
- 10:11Speaker 3: I think Davis will play.
- 10:12Speaker 2: So if Davis and Gonzalez both don't play, that could
- 10:15Speaker 2: impact my feelings in the game. I don't think that's
- 10:18Speaker 2: going to be the case. I think it's more likely
- 10:21Speaker 2: that both do play than both don't play. That's an
- 10:23Speaker 2: old Andy Hartism.
- 10:24Speaker 1: What's more likely? Do play or don't play.
- 10:27Speaker 3: Well, it's listed as Davis' neck, which is the same
- 10:29Speaker 3: injury he missed the Pittsburgh game with. I think it's
- 10:33Speaker 3: just maintenance.
- 10:35Speaker 1: Tom Brady's shoulder. Yeah, right.
- 10:38Speaker 6: Yep.
- 10:38Speaker 2: But it's definitely been lingering. So I'm not saying it's nothing.
- 10:42Speaker 2: It's not a veteran rest day. It's whatever he's dealing with.
- 10:46Speaker 2: But I think he'll be able to play through it.
- 10:47Speaker 2: They have the other guy there talking about all the receivers.
- 10:51Speaker 2: They have the one guy that evidently you only have
- 10:53Speaker 2: to cover in the red zone. He has like five catches,
- 10:56Speaker 2: three touchdowns.
- 10:56Speaker 1: Kobe White.
- 10:58Speaker 2: He doesn't catch the ball with any volume, but he
- 11:01Speaker 2: gets touchdowns.
- 11:03Speaker 3: He's kind of a similar skill set as Matt Collins,
- 11:07Speaker 3: like a big receiver type of player that fits this
- 11:11Speaker 3: kind of offense, can block a little bit, that type
- 11:14Speaker 3: of thing. So not a big-time player. threat, though. Not
- 11:19Speaker 3: someone that.
- 11:20Speaker 2: I literally think he has five catches.
- 11:22Speaker 1: Can I ask a question?
- 11:25Speaker 9: Would it make sense, would it be feasible to line
- 11:28Speaker 9: up Gonzalez, if he was healthy, on Brock Bowers? I
- 11:32Speaker 9: looked at the Kansas City thing, it looked like they
- 11:34Speaker 9: were kind of juggling guys on him. They had a
- 11:35Speaker 9: bunch of corners on him. It was always somebody different.
- 11:38Speaker 9: Delane covered him a little bit. Across the board, it
- 11:41Speaker 9: seemed like it was by committee, which I think is
- 11:44Speaker 9: how it is.
- 11:44Speaker 1: But What's Brock Bauer's style?
- 11:46Speaker 5: Is he a guy that likes the contact early? He's
- 11:49Speaker 5: a big slot receiver. He is, but does he use
- 11:52Speaker 5: his size?
- 11:53Speaker 3: Yeah. I would say that he can get physical at
- 11:56Speaker 3: the top of the route specifically because he wants to
- 11:59Speaker 3: break into the middle of the field. That's his bread
- 12:01Speaker 3: and butter is in slants, angle routes, things like that.
- 12:05Speaker 3: So he'll bump you off at the top of the route.
- 12:08Speaker 3: So I think either way, the biggest thing about corners,
- 12:12Speaker 3: like covering tight ends with– are always what they say
- 12:15Speaker 3: is like, they almost have to slow themselves down because
- 12:17Speaker 3: they're not as fast as wide receivers. So like, it's
- 12:20Speaker 3: like a little bit of a, it's just a different
- 12:22Speaker 3: style of coverage because they're not as worried about them
- 12:25Speaker 3: running by them, but they are more worried about, you know, um,
- 12:29Speaker 3: like them being physical at the top. So I think
- 12:32Speaker 3: that that's the biggest difference. But, you know, maybe he's
- 12:37Speaker 3: a good player. I mean, he's really good.
- 12:39Speaker 9: I wonder, too, if they're going to hunt matchups with
- 12:41Speaker 9: those tight ends on Marcus Jones, too. It just seems
- 12:44Speaker 9: like every week that's a focus of the other team's
- 12:47Speaker 9: offense is when we can get Keon Coleman on him,
- 12:49Speaker 9: let's take a shot.
- 12:50Speaker 1: You know, it doesn't always work.
- 12:52Speaker 9: And I think Marcus Jones is very competitive and sticky,
- 12:54Speaker 9: but he's still 5'8. And you put the ball up
- 12:57Speaker 9: top where only the other guy can get it, Um,
- 12:59Speaker 9: you know, with these big tight ends, mayor, those guys might,
- 13:02Speaker 9: might be a mismatch.
- 13:02Speaker 1: I mean, we saw in the super bowl a little bit.
- 13:04Speaker 3: Yeah. I feel like we're every week we're talking about
- 13:07Speaker 3: personnel matching. Like this team's going to put two tight
- 13:10Speaker 3: ends on the field. How are the Patriots going to
- 13:12Speaker 3: match it? Are they going to be in big nickel?
- 13:14Speaker 3: Are they going to be in base defense? How are
- 13:16Speaker 3: they going to combat that? Now, the Raiders haven't run
- 13:18Speaker 3: the ball well. So maybe you don't need to put
- 13:21Speaker 3: true base out there because their run game hasn't been
- 13:23Speaker 3: very good. But the Patriots haven't stopped the run very well.
- 13:26Speaker 3: So it's kind of a weakness on weakness.
- 13:28Speaker 9: Like a movable force against the what?
- 13:30Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm terrible at that.
- 13:32Speaker 1: So speak of stopping the run, Christian Ellis popped up
- 13:36Speaker 1: with a chest.
- 13:37Speaker 3: He had it last week.
- 13:38Speaker 1: Do we know what that's all about?
- 13:39Speaker 2: He was on the injury report last week.
- 13:41Speaker 3: He was questionable with the chest.
- 13:42Speaker 1: So we think that's just another lingerer.
- 13:44Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 13:46Speaker 1: Hard hitter.
- 13:46Speaker 3: We saw him in the locker room with like a
- 13:48Speaker 3: wrap all up on his torso.
- 13:52Speaker 7: He just hits so hard.
- 13:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:54Speaker 3: Honestly, he might have gotten hurt like hitting somebody.
- 13:56Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 13:57Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 13:58Speaker 1: That's what he does. Okay. All right.
- 14:00Speaker 6: What else?
- 14:01Speaker 1: What else? I mean, our guy Drake, player of the week.
- 14:04Speaker 6: Drake.
- 14:05Speaker 1: Yeah, heard from him yesterday.
- 14:07Speaker 9: It sounds like he's just trying to stay the course
- 14:09Speaker 9: and not get too caught up in last week and
- 14:12Speaker 9: try to recreate some of the urgency I think they
- 14:14Speaker 9: had last week.
- 14:16Speaker 1: It's easy to get up.
- 14:16Speaker 9: From Buffalo in a road game and go into that
- 14:19Speaker 9: stadium facing Josh Allen.
- 14:20Speaker 1: Now can you reproduce that, especially with the start? The
- 14:24Speaker 1: start was just so impressive.
- 14:25Speaker 9: I think you do that this week, especially the first
- 14:28Speaker 9: and the second half, be a great way to get
- 14:30Speaker 9: things rolling, kind of put them in a hole.
- 14:32Speaker 1: I mean, they already– have trouble running the ball.
- 14:35Speaker 9: So the more I think you put this game on
- 14:36Speaker 9: Kirk Cousins, he's been pretty good, but let's see how
- 14:38Speaker 9: good he can be the more.
- 14:39Speaker 1: Pressure you pile on him.
- 14:41Speaker 5: What's Kirk Cousins' kryptonite?
- 14:44Speaker 3: Split safety coverages. So he's number one in the league
- 14:48Speaker 3: in EPA against single high safeties. So you play cover one,
- 14:52Speaker 3: cover three, single high safety because he wants to throw
- 14:56Speaker 3: in the middle of the field. He wants to throw
- 14:58Speaker 3: the in-breakers. He wants to throw slants, ins, outs, Bauer's
- 15:02Speaker 3: really good on angle routes too. When you play split safeties,
- 15:06Speaker 3: you're taking away all those things. You're taking away slant windows.
- 15:09Speaker 3: You're taking away the flats. You know, you're taking away
- 15:11Speaker 3: things that, you know, he really likes to throw. So
- 15:15Speaker 3: he's struggled because, you know, Basically, the way to beat
- 15:18Speaker 3: cover two specifically are Drake May's hole shots, which he
- 15:22Speaker 3: throws better than anybody, and splitting the deep safeties up
- 15:25Speaker 3: the middle of the field. But if you don't have
- 15:27Speaker 3: the arm talent to do that, then you can't access
- 15:29Speaker 3: those areas of the field. So the play that Naylor
- 15:33Speaker 3: got hurt on last week, he tried to split the
- 15:35Speaker 3: safeties in cover two, and the ball hung up there,
- 15:38Speaker 3: and it was a hospital ball.
- 15:39Speaker 1: Split his receiver in two.
- 15:41Speaker 3: Yeah, so those are the types of things that you
- 15:43Speaker 3: look at. The splits are really, really crazy with him
- 15:48Speaker 3: single high versus split safety coverage. First against single high,
- 15:52Speaker 3: 25th against split safety. So I would expect a lot
- 15:55Speaker 3: of cover two in this game from the Patriots.
- 15:58Speaker 1: Okay. I'll just read this email and then we'll follow
- 16:03Speaker 1: up with it. Eric in Shrewsbury, on Tuesday, Fred buried
- 16:05Speaker 1: the lead. On the segment everyone had been waiting for,
- 16:09Speaker 1: while discussing players that impressed the crew last Sunday, Fred
- 16:12Speaker 1: mentioned that an entire segment would be dedicated to a
- 16:15Speaker 1: certain best friend of his, only for fans to hear
- 16:17Speaker 1: radio silence for 48 hours. While I understand your noble
- 16:20Speaker 1: quest to be humble about how much you know wide receivers,
- 16:24Speaker 1: give the people what you want. Of course, he's talking
- 16:26Speaker 1: about Efton Chisholm. I'm managing him right now.
- 16:29Speaker 2: But we didn't talk about Efton Chisholm on Tuesday.
- 16:32Speaker 1: We waited a little bit. I held off. Let the
- 16:35Speaker 1: damn build up. I held off.
- 16:37Speaker 2: I think we talked about it a lot.
- 16:40Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 16:40Speaker 1: It's a big play. Well, I think he wanted me
- 16:41Speaker 1: to take my shirt off and run around. Oh, I
- 16:44Speaker 1: wanted that too, actually.
- 16:45Speaker 2: I think we all.
- 16:46Speaker 1: But I want to manage Efton right now. I want
- 16:50Speaker 1: to see what kind of usage he gets in this game.
- 16:53Speaker 1: I know Vrabel said that you make plays like that,
- 16:55Speaker 1: you earn more opportunities. But we'll see. We'll see what
- 16:59Speaker 1: happens and how they use him this game. Because I'll
- 17:03Speaker 1: be disappointed if he's just simply a replacement for Hollins.
- 17:10Speaker 1: I want to see him used as a little bit
- 17:13Speaker 1: of a slot. See how he does with that.
- 17:16Speaker 3: Agreed.
- 17:16Speaker 2: You don't like what he did?
- 17:18Speaker 5: I love what he did, but I want to see more.
- 17:22Speaker 3: I thought Drake May had an interesting quote about him
- 17:24Speaker 3: yesterday and said that, like, he's always in the right place, like,
- 17:28Speaker 3: in terms of, like, the concept.
- 17:30Speaker 1: Right. I was getting there.
- 17:34Speaker 2: I took this comment in an entirely different way.
- 17:36Speaker 3: So he said, like, if Efton Chisholm runs a thousand routes,
- 17:41Speaker 3: he maybe runs the wrong route once. And a thousand times.
- 17:44Speaker 3: And he was just like, that's really comforting for a
- 17:47Speaker 3: quarterback to just know that the receiver is always.
- 17:49Speaker 5: In the right place.
- 17:50Speaker 1: So does that also include not just the route itself,
- 17:52Speaker 1: but the option? Yeah.
- 17:53Speaker 3: I mean, he's saying he makes the right decision. He
- 17:56Speaker 3: makes the right decision.
- 17:57Speaker 1: So that screams slot receiver to me, right?
- 17:59Speaker 3: I mean, he is a slot receiver.
- 18:00Speaker 2: He is a slot receiver.
- 18:01Speaker 3: Yeah. He's playing on the outside for Matt Collins out
- 18:03Speaker 3: of necessity, not because that's what he is.
- 18:05Speaker 1: Okay. So good. Thank you.
- 18:06Speaker 3: So I think that that's... Where do you think he plays? Like,
- 18:12Speaker 3: when you watch training camp, where do you think he plays?
- 18:14Speaker 3: Don't be snarky.
- 18:16Speaker 1: He's a slot receiver. He's poking the bear. He's poking
- 18:18Speaker 1: the bear right now.
- 18:19Speaker 2: I mean, I just don't understand why you're so, like,
- 18:22Speaker 2: disappointed that he stepped in for Matt Collins and showed
- 18:24Speaker 2: that he could do more than just the slot.
- 18:26Speaker 1: We know he can do the slot stuff. But in
- 18:28Speaker 1: order for him now, with the starters, to be a
- 18:31Speaker 1: slot receiver, it requires some movement of some other players.
- 18:35Speaker 3: Well, one player in particular. And there's a trickle-down effect.
- 18:38Speaker 3: It's only one player.
- 18:39Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 18:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:40Speaker 2: I don't know. I think he's so different than Demar.
- 18:43Speaker 1: So you fully expect him to be lining up in
- 18:45Speaker 1: the slot this game and playing the slot receiver role?
- 18:47Speaker 2: Not if Matt Collins doesn't play. I fully expect him
- 18:50Speaker 2: to do what he did Sunday if Matt Collins doesn't play.
- 18:52Speaker 2: If Matt Collins is fine, then I think he probably
- 18:56Speaker 2: goes back to a part-time secondary role.
- 18:59Speaker 1: I would hope whether or not Hollins is healthy, he
- 19:03Speaker 1: gets his shot at slots.
- 19:05Speaker 3: I think he should. I think the clock is ticking
- 19:08Speaker 3: on Pop Douglas. I love Pop Douglas.
- 19:10Speaker 2: Six and one half does on the other.
- 19:11Speaker 1: It's not six and one half does on the other.
- 19:13Speaker 3: One receiver runs the correct routes and one receiver doesn't.
- 19:16Speaker 1: Okay.
- 19:17Speaker 3: So, so.
- 19:17Speaker 6: Okay.
- 19:18Speaker 1: I'm not going to.
- 19:19Speaker 3: Go that way. I mean, I'm just like.
- 19:21Speaker 1: One guy's an idiot.
- 19:22Speaker 2: The other guy's smart.
- 19:23Speaker 1: I didn't say that.
- 19:24Speaker 6: Here we go.
- 19:26Speaker 1: I didn't say that. I'm out. I'm out. Why would
- 19:29Speaker 1: you go there?
- 19:30Speaker 3: I didn't say that.
- 19:31Speaker 1: You kind of did. No, I didn't.
- 19:33Speaker 3: I just said that one guy... The quarterback's telling you
- 19:36Speaker 3: that one guy is consistently in the right place.
- 19:38Speaker 1: All the time.
- 19:39Speaker 2: But what is he saying about the other guy? He
- 19:41Speaker 2: wasn't asked about the other guy. You're inferring that he's
- 19:45Speaker 2: not in the right place. No, that's my opinion. I'm
- 19:48Speaker 2: not inferring.
- 19:49Speaker 1: That's what you're saying. Here's what I'm saying.
- 19:51Speaker 3: I'm saying that's my opinion on it. I'm not saying
- 19:54Speaker 3: that's Drake May's opinion.
- 19:55Speaker 1: That's what I said. That's what you were saying.
- 19:56Speaker 3: Okay, but I don't want it to come off like
- 19:58Speaker 3: I'm saying Drake May is saying that. No, you didn't
- 20:00Speaker 3: say anything.
- 20:01Speaker 2: That's my opinion. Drake ain't saying that.
- 20:03Speaker 1: Listen, for the last, I would say two, maybe even
- 20:06Speaker 1: three years, I haven't seen.
- 20:10Speaker 5: A true slot receiver position played well here.
- 20:15Speaker 2: And yet the quarterback almost won the MVP without that.
- 20:19Speaker 13: I know.
- 20:19Speaker 2: It's amazing.
- 20:20Speaker 1: I know. But I think when you play the better defenses,
- 20:23Speaker 1: it helps to have that. That guy that can get
- 20:26Speaker 1: open quickly, move the chains. Now, I think Diggs did
- 20:31Speaker 1: it to a certain.
- 20:33Speaker 3: I would say the guy you're describing last year was Diggs,
- 20:36Speaker 3: and he did it at an extremely high level.
- 20:38Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 20:40Speaker 1: When you do that, then you limit Diggs doing other things.
- 20:44Speaker 1: You know what I mean? I don't think we've had
- 20:48Speaker 1: that true guy dedicated to those routes throughout the game.
- 20:53Speaker 1: And I miss that. I miss that. That's where we differ.
- 20:57Speaker 6: I don't.
- 20:58Speaker 1: You don't miss it. I think they like production. I know.
- 21:01Speaker 1: You think they're all loose change. But I think Edelman
- 21:04Speaker 1: and I think Troy Brown and I think Walker were
- 21:06Speaker 1: good players. I think those are different players.
- 21:08Speaker 2: They really worked well with Tom Brady. That was his strength.
- 21:11Speaker 2: That's not Drake May's strength. And I think that's making
- 21:14Speaker 2: him play with a hand tied.
- 21:15Speaker 1: Behind his back. Okay. I would hope that.
- 21:18Speaker 2: I'm trying to cater my offense to my talent.
- 21:21Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 21:21Speaker 1: I'm not saying it has to be his strength. We
- 21:23Speaker 1: know his strength is its legs and his pinpoint accuracy downfield. But, man,
- 21:28Speaker 1: it's such a binky, as Dante Skarniecki would say.
- 21:33Speaker 3: I would just say that they're different. So the role
- 21:36Speaker 3: that Diggs was playing last year was more like Edelman.
- 21:40Speaker 3: The slot role is more Amendola. So I think that
- 21:43Speaker 3: there are different types of roles. I think Diggs was
- 21:46Speaker 3: doing exactly what you're describing. I think he did it
- 21:48Speaker 3: all last year. That was exactly the role he was playing.
- 21:51Speaker 3: When you're talking about guys that are truly the Z
- 21:54Speaker 3: receiver that are moving around the formation a little bit
- 21:58Speaker 3: more and being used in different ways, that's Diggs, that's Edelman.
- 22:03Speaker 3: Those guys used to do that.
- 22:04Speaker 1: A little bit of Welker.
- 22:05Speaker 3: The guys that are pure slots, which is what I
- 22:07Speaker 3: think Chisholm is, is why he gets all the Danny
- 22:10Speaker 3: Amendola comparisons. Because he's a guy that's going to play
- 22:13Speaker 3: strictly inside. So I think that there's a little bit
- 22:15Speaker 3: of a difference there in terms of stylistic.
- 22:17Speaker 1: And I know... The offense was really good last year,
- 22:20Speaker 1: but we saw what happened later in the season. And
- 22:24Speaker 1: I'll throw this out to you. Do you want your
- 22:27Speaker 1: number one receiver to be a slot receiver?
- 22:31Speaker 6: Do I?
- 22:31Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 22:32Speaker 10: No.
- 22:33Speaker 1: I agree. No. I agree.
- 22:36Speaker 2: I want him to be my third receiver.
- 22:39Speaker 1: I was looking for it. What about the rest of you?
- 22:42Speaker 2: No, I don't think that's the way to win.
- 22:44Speaker 1: I think that's weird. And I think Diggs was our
- 22:48Speaker 1: number one receiver last year.
- 22:49Speaker 3: I don't care. I think that Diggs was their number
- 22:51Speaker 3: one receiver last year, and they had one of the
- 22:52Speaker 3: best offenses in football.
- 22:53Speaker 1: Until they shut him down. Until defenses took him out.
- 22:57Speaker 3: But if he's your number one receiver and teams are
- 22:59Speaker 3: doubling him, then I put more of that on the
- 23:02Speaker 3: other guys. The other guys got to win.
- 23:03Speaker 6: Right, right.
- 23:04Speaker 5: They have to, but they're not good enough.
- 23:05Speaker 3: Okay, but you're saying that's going to be your number
- 23:09Speaker 3: one receiver is your slot guy. I don't think.
- 23:11Speaker 1: But it's harder to take out the number one receiver, right,
- 23:16Speaker 1: if someone else is your slot guy.
- 23:19Speaker 3: I don't know about that. Like, if you have a
- 23:21Speaker 3: number one receiver on the outside, like, you know, every week, like, A.J. Brown,
- 23:25Speaker 3: when he comes back, is going to see cloud coverage.
- 23:27Speaker 3: He's going to see a corner underneath him, a safety
- 23:29Speaker 3: over the top, and, like, he's going to.
- 23:31Speaker 1: See that every single week. And if they take him out,
- 23:32Speaker 1: they're going to sacrifice something else. So if you have
- 23:34Speaker 1: a competent slot receiver, you can still move the ball.
- 23:37Speaker 1: But it's just the opposite.
- 23:39Speaker 3: Like, if you have a slot receiver, that's the guy
- 23:41Speaker 3: that's getting the extra attention, then the one-on-ones are now outside.
- 23:44Speaker 9: Good.
- 23:44Speaker 1: So then A.J. Brown flourishes. See what I'm saying?
- 23:47Speaker 2: But why can't it just be the tight end catching
- 23:49Speaker 2: the ball?
- 23:50Speaker 1: Again, if you have a good tight end, if you
- 23:52Speaker 1: have a really good.
- 23:53Speaker 3: situation with if you have a name slot if you
- 23:56Speaker 3: have if you have bowers or you have a really
- 23:58Speaker 3: good tight end yes he can be he can actually
- 24:01Speaker 3: be i'm talking about hunter henry i'm talking about this
- 24:03Speaker 3: offense i think evan is exactly right they had a
- 24:06Speaker 3: really good offense last year without all the bells and
- 24:08Speaker 3: whistles that you're talking.
- 24:09Speaker 1: About i don't think this is a bell and a
- 24:10Speaker 1: whistle but.
- 24:12Speaker 2: Like this guy the one or that guy the one
- 24:15Speaker 2: or this guy the slot they had a good they
- 24:17Speaker 2: had a good offense okay like The quarterback almost won
- 24:20Speaker 2: the MVP without all of those things that are so
- 24:23Speaker 2: necessary to move the ball.
- 24:24Speaker 3: I just asked him for somebody to dictate the coverage.
- 24:27Speaker 3: I don't care if it's outside. I don't care if
- 24:29Speaker 3: it's inside. I don't care if it's a tight end.
- 24:31Speaker 3: I don't care if it's a wide receiver. Somebody needs
- 24:33Speaker 3: to dictate the coverage. Someone needs to be drawing the attention.
- 24:36Speaker 3: Someone needs to be getting the number one corners. Someone
- 24:39Speaker 3: needs to be getting safety help. Like someone somewhere. I
- 24:42Speaker 3: don't care if it's wrong. And who's that now?
- 24:44Speaker 1: A.J.
- 24:44Speaker 3: Brown when he comes back.
- 24:45Speaker 1: Who's that now?
- 24:46Speaker 6: Nobody.
- 24:47Speaker 3: Which is why they've struggled.
- 24:48Speaker 1: Right. And here's the difference.
- 24:51Speaker 2: When the quarterback plays well, you put 400 yards and
- 24:55Speaker 2: 30 points on the board. When he doesn't, you turn
- 24:57Speaker 2: it over incessantly and blame the receivers. That's basically what
- 25:01Speaker 2: we're doing here. The quarterback played well with all the
- 25:03Speaker 2: same things that he was lacking in the first three games.
- 25:06Speaker 2: Matter of fact, he was lacking even more because Matt
- 25:09Speaker 2: Collins left the game. But yet he was sharp in
- 25:12Speaker 2: this game. And they moved the ball at will. Four
- 25:15Speaker 2: long touchdown drives. Again, without that thing that is so
- 25:20Speaker 2: necessary to move the ball... They were able to do it.
- 25:24Speaker 3: Because the quarterback played better.
- 25:26Speaker 2: I'm not saying that's how you want to live forever,
- 25:28Speaker 2: but I'm saying we can talk about all this stuff.
- 25:31Speaker 2: I'm going to say the same thing I said going
- 25:32Speaker 2: into the game. If Drake May continues to play the
- 25:35Speaker 2: way he did in the first three weeks, all of
- 25:37Speaker 2: this is irrelevant. It's not going to matter.
- 25:40Speaker 3: If he plays the way he did in 25, he
- 25:43Speaker 3: should make it easier for them.
- 25:46Speaker 1: I'm trying to create an offensive machine, a well-oiled offensive machine.
- 25:50Speaker 1: I don't want to have to rely on Efton Chisholm
- 25:53Speaker 1: making a one-handed catch every game.
- 25:55Speaker 2: Fred, who has this elite player at every single position?
- 26:03Speaker 2: That's what you're trying to create.
- 26:05Speaker 1: No, I didn't say that. What they have is... Again.
- 26:07Speaker 3: No, you just said I'm trying to create a well-oiled machine.
- 26:10Speaker 1: Efficient. Efficient machine.
- 26:12Speaker 2: A well-efficient machine.
- 26:13Speaker 1: You said oils, but now you changed it to whatever.
- 26:14Speaker 1: Well-oiled efficient machine. Didn't I say that? Who has that?
- 26:18Speaker 2: Like, who has the answer at every spot?
- 26:22Speaker 5: I don't think it requires to have an answer at
- 26:25Speaker 5: every spot.
- 26:25Speaker 2: What are they lacking that you think that they don't have?
- 26:27Speaker 1: I think right now they're lacking that volume guy, that
- 26:31Speaker 1: very dependable guy.
- 26:31Speaker 3: Because he's on injured reserve.
- 26:33Speaker 1: Right. Right now they're lacking that. Hopefully. When he comes back,
- 26:37Speaker 1: let's talk again.
- 26:38Speaker 2: Okay, were they lacking it, like, Sunday?
- 26:41Speaker 1: Yeah, I think they were.
- 26:45Speaker 3: They weren't lacking at Sunday, but the point is over
- 26:48Speaker 3: a larger sample size.
- 26:50Speaker 1: I want something that's durable.
- 26:51Speaker 3: I'm going to say if the quarterback is back, it's
- 26:55Speaker 3: not going to matter.
- 26:56Speaker 2: If he's not.
- 26:57Speaker 3: then he's not as good as I thought he was,
- 26:59Speaker 3: and he's going to rely on all the things.
- 27:00Speaker 1: To be in place. Obviously, if Drake May plays like
- 27:02Speaker 1: he played in Jacksonville, I don't care who your slot
- 27:04Speaker 1: receiver is, or I don't even care if A.J.
- 27:06Speaker 6: Brown is back.
- 27:07Speaker 2: I'm not talking about the bad part. I'm talking about
- 27:09Speaker 2: I don't care what the other things are as long
- 27:11Speaker 2: as he has his head in the right place and
- 27:14Speaker 2: plays the way he did Sunday.
- 27:15Speaker 3: I think it's a chicken or the egg thing. Like,
- 27:18Speaker 3: did he play bad in the first three weeks of
- 27:20Speaker 3: the season? Absolutely, but... with receiver help with scheme, like
- 27:25Speaker 3: you can make the quarterback's job easier so that he's
- 27:27Speaker 3: not pressing and he's not throwing balls up for grabs
- 27:29Speaker 3: down the field. And he's not doing things that are
- 27:32Speaker 3: kind of outside of what he should be doing because
- 27:35Speaker 3: there are open receivers and there are things that are, and.
- 27:38Speaker 2: I will fully admit, this is a me thing. Like
- 27:40Speaker 2: he's not the guy I thought he was then.
- 27:42Speaker 3: Well, I don't think that that's necessarily true. I just, I,
- 27:45Speaker 3: why should it have to be so hard? Like, I
- 27:47Speaker 3: don't think it was that hard. I think he has
- 27:49Speaker 3: plenty to work with.
- 27:51Speaker 1: I do.
- 27:52Speaker 2: I think Romeo Dobbs is a good NFL receiver.
- 27:54Speaker 1: I don't think he's a star.
- 27:55Speaker 2: I think he's a good player. I think Matt Collins
- 27:57Speaker 2: is a good player. I think there's no reason why
- 27:59Speaker 2: they weren't more productive in the first three weeks than
- 28:02Speaker 2: they were. I think they had plenty to work with. Sorry,
- 28:06Speaker 2: I've just been sitting on this and I've got to
- 28:08Speaker 2: say it.
- 28:08Speaker 9: Last summer we heard Drake May say, what do you
- 28:10Speaker 9: like about Pop right now? And he said, he's in
- 28:12Speaker 9: the right place. He said the same thing last summer
- 28:14Speaker 9: before last year. I was trying to find the transcript
- 28:16Speaker 9: quote from it, but I'm not saying that that was...
- 28:19Speaker 9: necessarily exactly right there, but I'm just saying you've heard
- 28:22Speaker 9: these things before.
- 28:23Speaker 2: I appreciate that, but this wasn't necessarily for me about
- 28:25Speaker 2: DeMario Douglas.
- 28:26Speaker 9: No, I know, and I'm sorry to bring it back,
- 28:28Speaker 9: but I just, you know, I think you take a
- 28:30Speaker 9: grain of salt when the quarterback tells you things about
- 28:33Speaker 9: the receivers and it's maybe a projection of what he
- 28:35Speaker 9: wants and not necessarily what he wants.
- 28:36Speaker 2: That's exactly why I don't generally care what they say.
- 28:41Speaker 2: I always go by what they do.
- 28:43Speaker 1: So, and what you see. And, you know, I would
- 28:47Speaker 1: love to see That volume guy that the quarterback can
- 28:50Speaker 1: depend on in a pinch. That just gets open because
- 28:54Speaker 1: he runs the right route, makes the right decision. I
- 28:58Speaker 1: think Josh McDaniels would love to see that, too.
- 29:00Speaker 3: But I think that... Because it makes it a little...
- 29:03Speaker 3: I think it's just hurt. Like if they had A.J. Brown,
- 29:06Speaker 3: then you wouldn't be asking where's the volume receiver.
- 29:07Speaker 7: But wouldn't you love for that to be like Dobbs
- 29:08Speaker 7: right now?
- 29:09Speaker 3: And I think it was last week. I thought he
- 29:11Speaker 3: said it was.
- 29:12Speaker 8: And if they can keep building on that, I think...
- 29:15Speaker 8: we look back on this exact conversation.
- 29:17Speaker 1: And I think there's very few defenses in this league
- 29:22Speaker 1: that given only one thing to have to take away,
- 29:24Speaker 1: they can't take it away. You have to have options
- 29:27Speaker 1: for your quarterback. Yeah.
- 29:29Speaker 3: I think that it's just for some reason, and I'm
- 29:32Speaker 3: not picking on Paul, but like the, I don't understand
- 29:35Speaker 3: why the goal would be to make it harder on
- 29:39Speaker 3: the quarterback. Like, that like yes he should be able
- 29:41Speaker 3: to elevate what's around him if he's great he should
- 29:43Speaker 3: elevate but i also think that it's like i personally
- 29:47Speaker 3: think that it's the entire organization's job to make drake
- 29:51Speaker 3: may an MVP candidate every single year. That includes the coaches.
- 29:56Speaker 3: That includes Elliot Wolfe in the front office and the
- 29:58Speaker 3: moves that they make. Like their job is to supplement
- 30:02Speaker 3: having Drake May. And like that, like the harder that
- 30:07Speaker 3: you make it on the quarterback, the more you're going
- 30:09Speaker 3: to see him play like the first three weeks of
- 30:11Speaker 3: the season.
- 30:11Speaker 2: And what did you think that they did to make
- 30:12Speaker 2: it harder on the quarterback? Was it, Spending a first-round
- 30:16Speaker 2: pick to bring in A.J.
- 30:17Speaker 6: Brown?
- 30:17Speaker 1: No, I didn't say that.
- 30:18Speaker 2: Or was it spending $ 68 million to sign Romney?
- 30:19Speaker 1: I didn't say they did anything wrong.
- 30:20Speaker 3: Which one of those two things.
- 30:21Speaker 2: Was intentionally making it harder?
- 30:22Speaker 3: I didn't say they did anything wrong. I said the
- 30:24Speaker 3: circumstances led to that.
- 30:26Speaker 2: I would say that they agree with you because their
- 30:29Speaker 2: offseason was all about making life easier on Drake May.
- 30:33Speaker 3: As it should be.
- 30:33Speaker 6: I agree with that.
- 30:34Speaker 1: We all agree on that? Yes, absolutely. You've spent two
- 30:37Speaker 1: first-round picks on tackles in subsequent years. You've spent a
- 30:41Speaker 1: lot of money on receivers.
- 30:42Speaker 3: I never said they did anything wrong. They just had
- 30:44Speaker 3: such unfortunate luck. It's not their fault that A.J. Brown
- 30:47Speaker 3: got hurt.
- 30:49Speaker 2: So then why are we bringing up the goal shouldn't
- 30:52Speaker 2: be to make it harder? Who said the goal was
- 30:53Speaker 2: to make it harder?
- 30:55Speaker 1: No, no one said that.
- 30:56Speaker 3: You said that he should just be able to elevate.
- 30:58Speaker 2: I think he has enough to work with. He should
- 31:00Speaker 2: be able to elevate what's around him.
- 31:02Speaker 1: He's the star.
- 31:03Speaker 3: I agree he should be able to elevate it. I
- 31:05Speaker 3: just think that the good teams and the good offenses,
- 31:08Speaker 3: they help their quarterbacks out.
- 31:09Speaker 2: I think that's what he did last year. I think
- 31:11Speaker 2: he elevated... Certainly some of those guys. He elevated average
- 31:16Speaker 2: players around him other than Diggs, who, let's call it
- 31:19Speaker 2: what it is, was an average player based on his
- 31:22Speaker 2: career last year. He was average for him, but he
- 31:26Speaker 2: elevated Keishon Booty. He elevated Matt Collins. He elevated these
- 31:29Speaker 2: guys around him last year, and he elevated the guys
- 31:33Speaker 2: around him on Sunday.
- 31:36Speaker 1: That's what the quarterback's job is. Well, I agree with that,
- 31:40Speaker 1: but I'd love to have that guy that can help
- 31:42Speaker 1: the quarterback too. And again, I'm using Dante Skarniecki. Every
- 31:47Speaker 1: quarterback needs a binky. Well, we saw A.J. Brown for
- 31:50Speaker 1: a while in the locker room yesterday, and I think
- 31:52Speaker 1: it looks positive.
- 31:54Speaker 9: It's hard to tell with these things, but all this discussion,
- 31:57Speaker 9: let's get that guy back and see what it looks like.
- 31:59Speaker 8: That's what it is, too, because I think it's not
- 32:01Speaker 8: even just the production you miss from him. It's just
- 32:04Speaker 8: the aura of having a number. Yeah, and I hate
- 32:07Speaker 8: to say it because it's corny. It's corny to say that,
- 32:10Speaker 8: but we saw Diggs come into that locker room last
- 32:14Speaker 8: year and just His persona is so larger than life
- 32:18Speaker 8: that it just elevated everything.
- 32:19Speaker 7: And I don't think Drake would ever be that guy.
- 32:22Speaker 8: I don't know if you want your quarterback to have
- 32:24Speaker 8: that type of personality.
- 32:25Speaker 7: But from a receiver, you love that. So just having
- 32:28Speaker 7: a guy like that.
- 32:29Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, that helped.
- 32:29Speaker 7: It's just going to be so crucial.
- 32:31Speaker 1: Richard in Attleboro, listening to the discussion on slot receivers,
- 32:35Speaker 1: I want to ask why we couldn't have kept Diggs
- 32:37Speaker 1: and Gutton A.J. Brown both on the field at the
- 32:39Speaker 1: same time. Listen, whether it's Diggs or Booty– We've got
- 32:44Speaker 1: to get past that.
- 32:45Speaker 5: They're not here. They're not coming back.
- 32:47Speaker 1: Look, I'm the first one to bemoan not having booty.
- 32:51Speaker 1: I was a big booty guy. But he's not here anymore.
- 32:54Speaker 1: We've got to deal with what we've got right now.
- 32:56Speaker 1: That's what we're trying to hash out. How do we
- 32:58Speaker 1: best use the players that are on the roster today?
- 33:01Speaker 1: Because Diggs ain't coming back. Booty's not coming back. They're gone.
- 33:06Speaker 1: So we've got to move on. Stop lamenting. But still,
- 33:09Speaker 1: you'll always be a big booty guy, though, right? I'll
- 33:11Speaker 1: always like booty.
- 33:13Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 33:13Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 33:14Speaker 1: They're big on booty. Yeah. But booty's not here. It's
- 33:18Speaker 1: not coming back. So let's focus on what we got.
- 33:22Speaker 1: How do we do the best with what we have?
- 33:24Speaker 2: Save that for February when free agency's getting ready to start.
- 33:26Speaker 2: Everybody says, you think you can re-sign booty?
- 33:29Speaker 1: Okay, so then that's a different story. But right now,
- 33:32Speaker 1: there are.
- 33:33Speaker 3: A lot of people that can't move on from it.
- 33:36Speaker 2: I can't wait to get those 33 catches back.
- 33:41Speaker 5: You know, right now we've got to deal with what
- 33:42Speaker 5: we've got.
- 33:43Speaker 1: If A.J. Brown comes back and he's A.J. Brown, we're
- 33:45Speaker 1: not going to be thinking about that for a second.
- 33:48Speaker 2: Well, that's a legit concern.
- 33:50Speaker 1: Right. What version of when he comes back? What version
- 33:53Speaker 1: of it?
- 33:53Speaker 2: Because that's a tough injury for a guy to come
- 33:56Speaker 2: back from. And I think he'll come back. Obviously, he's
- 33:59Speaker 2: not going to miss the whole season. But I do
- 34:02Speaker 2: wonder what kind of explosiveness he'll have.
- 34:04Speaker 3: I wonder where the landing spot is because– He's eligible
- 34:08Speaker 3: next week against the Jets, but then you have the
- 34:10Speaker 3: short week with the Thursday night game. And I just wonder,
- 34:14Speaker 3: do you think about even holding him out even after
- 34:16Speaker 3: the Bears game? And then they have that long layoff
- 34:19Speaker 3: between the Thursday night game and the following week in Miami.
- 34:23Speaker 9: How about not the Jets, get him a little bit
- 34:27Speaker 9: of work against the Bears, and then he's got an
- 34:29Speaker 9: extended rest to recover from that.
- 34:32Speaker 1: I like it. Don't overdo it.
- 34:33Speaker 9: Hopefully you can beat the Jets without A.J.
- 34:36Speaker 6: Brown.
- 34:37Speaker 2: I would sit him those two games, and then I
- 34:39Speaker 2: think you could reasonably... But I like your plan, too.
- 34:42Speaker 2: We've talked about this.
- 34:43Speaker 7: If he's ready, you can see where he's at.
- 34:45Speaker 3: There's a longer time to go ready. I don't really
- 34:48Speaker 3: see any reason for him to have to play.
- 34:49Speaker 1: You could also make the case, don't play him until
- 34:52Speaker 1: after the Bears, because you have now a long break
- 34:55Speaker 1: for him. That's my point.
- 34:57Speaker 3: I wonder if that's where they end up. Because a
- 34:59Speaker 3: lot of the reporting right now is that he's trending, but...
- 35:04Speaker 3: they might be really cautious with when they bring him back.
- 35:08Speaker 9: Especially you win, you win this weekend, next weekend, you know,
- 35:11Speaker 9: you have some wins in the column, you know, you're
- 35:13Speaker 9: not like pressing like, Oh God, you know, you lose.
- 35:15Speaker 2: That's why the win Sunday was huge in so many
- 35:18Speaker 2: different levels.
- 35:18Speaker 1: Yeah. It gives you a little time.
- 35:20Speaker 2: That stuff is that lessens the urgency, you know, to
- 35:24Speaker 2: come and rescue your season.
- 35:25Speaker 1: Especially you look like the schedule down the stretch too tough.
- 35:27Speaker 14: Yeah.
- 35:28Speaker 7: That's good. Well, that's after that bears game, it's dolphins. Packers, Lions,
- 35:32Speaker 7: and I don't know, that little stretch is looking less.
- 35:34Speaker 3: And less intimidating.
- 35:36Speaker 7: And then the bye week and then the Chargers.
- 35:39Speaker 2: Packers, Lions, Vikings, to me, you know, I mean, I
- 35:42Speaker 2: thought the Vikings were going to be a layup.
- 35:45Speaker 1: They're undefeated.
- 35:45Speaker 3: Some of the layups have flipped, right?
- 35:48Speaker 2: This one I thought would be a layup, and now
- 35:51Speaker 2: it's just kind of a follow-up slam instead of a layup.
- 35:53Speaker 9: What is that Chargers team going to look like in December?
- 35:55Speaker 9: Are they getting guys back, starting to get healthy.
- 35:57Speaker 1: Or are they giving up?
- 35:58Speaker 2: Oh, I think they're going to be 2-8, but how
- 36:00Speaker 2: are they playing? Do they play like they did in
- 36:02Speaker 2: the fourth quarter against Seattle, or do they just mail
- 36:05Speaker 2: it in? I told you, I read off their schedule.
- 36:08Speaker 2: They have a very good shot of being like, 1-8, 0-9.
- 36:12Speaker 3: If you listen to some of the advanced metric stuff
- 36:15Speaker 3: in terms of schedule, the Patriots schedule is shaping up
- 36:18Speaker 3: to be easier and easier by the day.
- 36:20Speaker 1: Isn't that something?
- 36:21Speaker 3: So they now have the fourth easiest remaining strength of schedule.
- 36:24Speaker 5: What do I always say about schedules, Paul?
- 36:26Speaker 2: Can't judge them until after the season.
- 36:28Speaker 1: That's right.
- 36:29Speaker 3: Now, some of that is the Jets and the Dolphins, right?
- 36:31Speaker 3: You play them four times. So that's... They play the Chargers, too,
- 36:37Speaker 3: a win list.
- 36:37Speaker 10: Yes.
- 36:38Speaker 3: But when you have two teams in your division that stink,
- 36:42Speaker 3: that helps kind.
- 36:43Speaker 1: Of weight it down.
- 36:44Speaker 9: I have a different perspective now, though, having gone through
- 36:46Speaker 9: a couple four-win seasons here, how hard it is to
- 36:49Speaker 9: keep fighting in December. Going in those press conferences, listening
- 36:52Speaker 9: to those players talk about You know, Dan Roach teeing
- 36:54Speaker 9: them up with questions about, and they're just like, it's
- 36:58Speaker 9: so hard in the NFL to be like, no, you're
- 37:00Speaker 9: not having anything.
- 37:01Speaker 2: Aspirations.
- 37:02Speaker 13: Right.
- 37:02Speaker 2: Like the Jets, I think, will play hard. Because I
- 37:04Speaker 2: don't think the Jets expect.
- 37:05Speaker 6: It to be.
- 37:05Speaker 1: They know no other way.
- 37:07Speaker 2: No, but like the Jets, I think, expect it to
- 37:09Speaker 2: be a five or six win team. And that's probably
- 37:12Speaker 2: where they're going to end up. The Chargers expect it
- 37:14Speaker 2: to be like an 11 or 12 win team.
- 37:17Speaker 6: Sure.
- 37:17Speaker 2: And they're going to end up lucky to win five.
- 37:20Speaker 1: You know, the way they're going.
- 37:21Speaker 9: I mean, is Harbaugh still the coach?
- 37:22Speaker 6: Right.
- 37:23Speaker 9: Is McDaniel still the OC? Like, I almost wonder if
- 37:26Speaker 9: they might. It always seemed like a weird combination to
- 37:29Speaker 9: me of, like, Mike McDaniel and Jim Harbaugh. It just
- 37:30Speaker 9: seemed polar opposite kind of personalities. But, you know, is
- 37:34Speaker 9: there a chance maybe they get rid of McDaniel and
- 37:36Speaker 9: keep Harbaugh? Would that be on the table?
- 37:38Speaker 6: I don't know.
- 37:39Speaker 3: Or the other way around.
- 37:39Speaker 13: Or the other. Right.
- 37:41Speaker 1: I think that's where more people would go. I think
- 37:43Speaker 1: more people would go that way. But I just feel like.
- 37:46Speaker 9: Jim Harbaugh has built up a little bit more goodwill
- 37:50Speaker 9: than Mike McDaniel. Now you're seeing a lot of the
- 37:52Speaker 9: Miami people come out and say, yeah, it's great when
- 37:54Speaker 9: you've got Tyreek Hill and Tua, and it's all clicking,
- 37:57Speaker 9: but when it gets.
- 37:57Speaker 1: Hard, it's really hard for these guys.
- 37:59Speaker 2: But I do like Fred's point about the whole thing.
- 38:02Speaker 2: You can look at it now and say, well, that
- 38:03Speaker 2: one looks easy, that one looks easy.
- 38:05Speaker 1: What does it look like for the Patriots, too?
- 38:08Speaker 2: Detroit right now looks like they couldn't stop a nosebleed.
- 38:10Speaker 2: You know, we talked about this a little yesterday. If
- 38:12Speaker 2: Brian Branch comes back and they get a cornerback back,
- 38:15Speaker 2: you know, maybe that game is different. You know, right
- 38:19Speaker 2: now it looks like an easy game. They should win
- 38:20Speaker 2: that game. But I don't think it will be.
- 38:23Speaker 1: An easy game.
- 38:23Speaker 7: I think that's a good offense.
- 38:25Speaker 2: And I think very similarly about Green Bay. Like Green
- 38:29Speaker 2: Bay's offensive line is in complete shambles. They can't run
- 38:31Speaker 2: the ball at all. But that's the way it looks
- 38:33Speaker 2: right now. They'll have a month to sort of try
- 38:36Speaker 2: to figure some of these things out. Micah Parsons comes
- 38:39Speaker 2: back on defense.
- 38:40Speaker 3: Micah's not playing.
- 38:41Speaker 1: Who knows?
- 38:42Speaker 2: Maybe they're looking a little bit different. And the opposite
- 38:45Speaker 2: could be true of Minnesota. Their defense is blitzing everybody
- 38:48Speaker 2: to death. Maybe four weeks from now, teams get a
- 38:52Speaker 2: book on it, and they say, okay, if you do
- 38:53Speaker 2: this and this, you can really make them pay for
- 38:55Speaker 2: these blitzes. And all of a sudden, Minnesota isn't as
- 38:58Speaker 2: daunting as it looks right now.
- 39:00Speaker 3: That's a good point about the Packers, too.
- 39:03Speaker 2: But he kind of looked good late in that game.
- 39:06Speaker 2: Believe me, I was watching this game for different reasons.
- 39:09Speaker 2: The Minnesota game, he kind of had a thing with
- 39:11Speaker 2: Hawkinson in the fourth quarter.
- 39:12Speaker 6: Kyler. Yeah.
- 39:13Speaker 1: He's an injury waiting to happen, too, though.
- 39:15Speaker 9: And I wonder, like, is the Patriots going to break
- 39:17Speaker 9: this trend of their early season injuries?
- 39:19Speaker 1: You know, what are the Patriots going to look like?
- 39:20Speaker 1: It's great to say, oh, great, the injuries are over.
- 39:22Speaker 1: These guys are all going to come back.
- 39:24Speaker 9: The way things have been going this year, I don't
- 39:26Speaker 9: like it.
- 39:26Speaker 1: I don't like it. I forget to get my food order.
- 39:31Speaker 6: No, no, no. You got me?
- 39:32Speaker 1: He got you. Okay, thanks. Thumbs up.
- 39:34Speaker 3: Matt.
- 39:35Speaker 1: I got you, bro. Matt the man. MVP.
- 39:37Speaker 5: All right, 855-PETS.
- 39:38Speaker 1: What are those military meals?
- 39:41Speaker 2: What do they call them?
- 39:42Speaker 7: Oh, it's an acronym.
- 39:44Speaker 6: Made ready.
- 39:44Speaker 1: You got one of those for Fred? Yeah, right.
- 39:47Speaker 7: Wait, that was his secret. It's not secret Santa.
- 39:50Speaker 1: What do we do at the Christmas party? White elephant.
- 39:52Speaker 5: You got to put your mic on.
- 39:52Speaker 7: That was his gift.
- 39:54Speaker 1: White elephant. It's like 12 buttons.
- 39:57Speaker 7: The Yankee Swap.
- 39:58Speaker 1: Yeah, the Yankee Swap.
- 39:59Speaker 7: That's what he brought in for Yankee Swap.
- 40:00Speaker 1: MREs. Actually, I found a great Yankee Swap present.
- 40:03Speaker 7: For this year. I think they're actually sought after by
- 40:04Speaker 7: the video team.
- 40:06Speaker 10: No.
- 40:08Speaker 3: Whatever.
- 40:09Speaker 1: Whatever.
- 40:10Speaker 6: They're at war.
- 40:10Speaker 1: He's doing the moon landing in there.
- 40:14Speaker 3: He can show you.
- 40:15Speaker 2: More ways than you could actually converse with him.
- 40:19Speaker 5: 855-PASS-500 is the hotline. Let's go to it. Sam's in
- 40:21Speaker 5: North Carolina. What's up, Sam?
- 40:23Speaker 13: Hi. Hey, what's up, fellas?
- 40:27Speaker 1: Hey. Hey.
- 40:29Speaker 13: But back to the Evan Chisholm talk. I have to
- 40:30Speaker 13: talk about it because I ain't had a chance to
- 40:32Speaker 13: call in in a while. I continuously hear Evan talk
- 40:35Speaker 13: about how all teams play is basically zone and then
- 40:39Speaker 13: how his ability to find the zone is pretty good.
- 40:43Speaker 13: and how Pop is. And going forward, y'all said it yourself,
- 40:47Speaker 13: Pop isn't even going to be on the team next year,
- 40:49Speaker 13: but I feel like Efton Chisholm will. Why don't you
- 40:51Speaker 13: start building the chemistry now? Even when A.J. Brown comes back,
- 40:54Speaker 13: I don't see much from Kyle Williams, but I think
- 40:57Speaker 13: Efton Chisholm has earned it because anytime he's on the field,
- 41:00Speaker 13: he produces. Whether it be his backups or not, I mean,
- 41:03Speaker 13: it doesn't matter. He produces every time you see him.
- 41:06Speaker 13: Why don't you start building the chemistry now? I'll take
- 41:10Speaker 13: it off the air.
- 41:10Speaker 1: Okay. Listen, I think... Chisholm has that knack for, like
- 41:17Speaker 1: Evan said, making the right decision, running the route correctly.
- 41:20Speaker 1: Pop has another set of skills. I think Pop in
- 41:22Speaker 1: the open field... Chisholm can't do what Pop can do
- 41:25Speaker 1: in the open field. And I think... I would love
- 41:28Speaker 1: to see an ability to use them both in the
- 41:33Speaker 1: right way.
- 41:34Speaker 3: There's definitely an ability to use both.
- 41:35Speaker 1: In the right way.
- 41:36Speaker 3: Pop, every year, is one of the best separators in
- 41:39Speaker 3: the league by the metrics. He is one of the best...
- 41:42Speaker 3: getting open, especially against man coverage in the league. And, like,
- 41:47Speaker 3: his speed and his energy is needed in this offense. Like,
- 41:49Speaker 3: I'm not trying to pull the plug on top.
- 41:50Speaker 1: And we don't get to see it enough. That's the problem.
- 41:52Speaker 3: Well, because they play so much zone against them. So, like,
- 41:55Speaker 3: you know, they're playing 80% zone against Drake May because
- 41:58Speaker 3: they don't want him scrambling, even though he does anyways.
- 42:01Speaker 1: But, like, that.
- 42:02Speaker 3: that's what you're seeing a lot of, and so, like,
- 42:04Speaker 3: it's a different skill set, like you're saying. You know,
- 42:06Speaker 3: Pop is a really valuable player, you know, against man-to-man
- 42:10Speaker 3: coverage and is really one of the best receivers in
- 42:12Speaker 3: the league.
- 42:12Speaker 1: So there's no way that Pop can't succeed in a
- 42:15Speaker 1: zone by, you know, finding those holes and... Sure.
- 42:18Speaker 3: I mean, like, I... I mean, no way I know, like,
- 42:22Speaker 3: but like, it's just a skillset. It's a, it's a,
- 42:25Speaker 3: it's a knack. It's a, it's a nuance thing, you know? Yeah.
- 42:28Speaker 3: Like I, I think digs was just unbelievable at it,
- 42:31Speaker 3: but like, that's like what it looks like when it's
- 42:34Speaker 3: at its peak is the guy like digs who just
- 42:36Speaker 3: understands where the voids are and understands where to settle
- 42:39Speaker 3: down and understands the quarterback's vision and where you can
- 42:42Speaker 3: see him and where he can't see him. And, when
- 42:44Speaker 3: there's guys in between the two of them, like those
- 42:46Speaker 3: are all things that I think are, uh, are it's a,
- 42:50Speaker 3: it's a skillset. Like it's, you know, that that's not
- 42:53Speaker 3: pod strong suit. I don't know if it's Efton Chisholm's
- 42:57Speaker 3: strong suit. I was, we haven't seen him play enough,
- 43:00Speaker 3: so I don't know, but it could be. Uh, and
- 43:03Speaker 3: I think that that's something that, you know, when I
- 43:06Speaker 3: think of how do you get Efton Chisholm more opportunities, uh,
- 43:09Speaker 3: AJ Brown's coming back and Matt Collins is coming back.
- 43:11Speaker 3: He's not going to play on the outside a lot.
- 43:13Speaker 3: He's just not. So like at some point that if
- 43:15Speaker 3: you want to get him on the field more, it's
- 43:17Speaker 3: going to have to be in the slot.
- 43:18Speaker 8: Yep.
- 43:19Speaker 1: Okay. Is that Kaylee in Rhode Island? Am I reading
- 43:23Speaker 1: that right? It's a long way away.
- 43:24Speaker 6: Yep.
- 43:25Speaker 1: What's up, Kaylee?
- 43:26Speaker 3: You got it.
- 43:27Speaker 10: You usually say Kelly.
- 43:28Speaker 1: Kaylee.
- 43:30Speaker 3: That's it.
- 43:31Speaker 1: Okay. So concerning the Raiders game, I'm not so afraid
- 43:35Speaker 1: of their secondary.
- 43:36Speaker 3: I think Paul's right. I think if Drake may play
- 43:39Speaker 3: to his usual caliber, he'll get the ball out there.
- 43:43Speaker 11: I'm afraid of.
- 43:44Speaker 10: How well the Raiders are doing in takeaways.
- 43:47Speaker 14: How do we protect this football?
- 43:49Speaker 1: That's a good point because they lead the league and
- 43:51Speaker 1: we're worst or something like that.
- 43:53Speaker 3: Yep, got to protect the quarterback.
- 43:55Speaker 1: That is the key. We're going to see more Caleb
- 43:57Speaker 1: Lomo this week. Uh, not yet. I don't know.
- 44:02Speaker 9: I think Morgan Moses got a day off yesterday.
- 44:04Speaker 3: I think she's talking about like six offers.
- 44:06Speaker 1: Sure.
- 44:06Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 44:07Speaker 3: They did it. They did it last week. Quite a bit.
- 44:11Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 44:12Speaker 3: Um, maybe, I mean, I, I think that there's some
- 44:14Speaker 3: advantages and disadvantages to everything with that. Like now you
- 44:18Speaker 3: really only have four guys that can really run routes.
- 44:20Speaker 3: Like other than like a trick play, throwing it, the
- 44:23Speaker 3: low movies, not probably going to run routes. So like, that's,
- 44:26Speaker 3: you know, sort of the disadvantage to having that be
- 44:29Speaker 3: a big part of your offense. But, uh, you know,
- 44:31Speaker 3: the way the Raiders are creating takeaways is both pressure.
- 44:34Speaker 3: Like they're getting pressure on the quarterback and the quarterback.
- 44:37Speaker 3: A lot of their takeaways are strip sacks. A lot
- 44:39Speaker 3: of their takeaways are interceptions and the quarterback is under duress.
- 44:42Speaker 3: So if you're going to, that's how you create takeaways
- 44:45Speaker 3: is create chaos. So that, that's how you have to
- 44:48Speaker 3: You have to protect the quarterback.
- 44:50Speaker 9: I like the Lomus stuff just giving him this opportunity
- 44:52Speaker 9: to get his feet wet and slowly break him in.
- 44:54Speaker 9: I think in a perfect world, this is what you
- 44:56Speaker 9: get to do. Again, I think sooner than later, he's
- 44:59Speaker 9: probably going to get thrust in there. So the more
- 45:00Speaker 9: you can get him snaps now without a ton of
- 45:02Speaker 9: pressure on him, just get him up to speed.
- 45:04Speaker 1: I think it's good. All right. Thanks, Kaylee. Appreciate the call.
- 45:07Speaker 1: Todd and Garner writes in, your starting debate left out
- 45:10Speaker 1: the type of player you really want as a binky
- 45:12Speaker 1: or a drive starter. Releasing Jacoby Myers was removing an
- 45:16Speaker 1: ultimate binky that Drake could really have used right now.
- 45:19Speaker 1: We're going back to Jacoby Myers?
- 45:20Speaker 7: Well, we're talking about getting over Booty. We're still not
- 45:23Speaker 7: over Jacoby.
- 45:25Speaker 1: I agree with the general consensus that we need a
- 45:27Speaker 1: complimentary player for AJ, like Fred said, but I want
- 45:30Speaker 1: someone like Brandon LaFell. a drive starter that gets us
- 45:33Speaker 1: ahead of the sticks and opens up the playbook, including the...
- 45:37Speaker 1: I think that's Dobbs. What is wrong with Romeo Dobbs?
- 45:41Speaker 2: I hate this guy so much because he dropped a pass.
- 45:44Speaker 8: It all started before he even got here. It started
- 45:47Speaker 8: before he got here because they signed Dobbs before Brown
- 45:50Speaker 8: and people were pissed that it wasn't A.J. Brown and
- 45:52Speaker 8: this poor guy has never had a fair shot with
- 45:54Speaker 8: this fan base.
- 45:55Speaker 7: It's frustrating me so bad.
- 45:57Speaker 1: He's your Brandon LaFell and better. He's better than Brandon LaFell.
- 46:01Speaker 3: Different players. Like he's much more, in my opinion, going
- 46:04Speaker 3: to be used like Jacoby Myers once A.J. Brown comes back.
- 46:06Speaker 3: Like I think that he's going to be the guy that,
- 46:09Speaker 3: you know, is playing more inside and running those types
- 46:11Speaker 3: of routes. And I think that's what they did all
- 46:14Speaker 3: summer with the two of them. And I think by
- 46:15Speaker 3: the end of the summer, it looked really, really good
- 46:17Speaker 3: on the practice field. It just unfortunately, A.J. Brown got hurt.
- 46:20Speaker 7: Those Eagles practices.
- 46:21Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, two and a half quarters into the
- 46:23Speaker 3: opening game and A.J. Brown gets hurt and gets put
- 46:26Speaker 3: on IR. It kind of derailed everything that they had planned.
- 46:29Speaker 2: And I will put some of it on Dobbs because
- 46:31Speaker 2: he didn't play well. And for whatever reason, he didn't
- 46:33Speaker 2: really even play a lot in that game with A.J. Brown.
- 46:37Speaker 2: And I don't really know what the explanation for that was. But,
- 46:41Speaker 2: you know, he had a big drop in that game and,
- 46:44Speaker 2: you know, no catches.
- 46:45Speaker 7: And then.
- 46:46Speaker 2: Even the Pittsburgh game, I thought was a little, I mean, statistically,
- 46:50Speaker 2: he was good.
- 46:50Speaker 3: The broken plays.
- 46:51Speaker 1: He had like.
- 46:51Speaker 2: 96 yards in that game. But, you know, he made
- 46:54Speaker 2: a couple of plays, but he also left a couple
- 46:56Speaker 2: of plays on the field that I thought he could
- 46:58Speaker 2: have made, too. This game was a little bit more
- 47:01Speaker 2: consistency from Dobbs. So, yeah, part of it is, you know,
- 47:05Speaker 2: I'm not completely absolving him. He wasn't great in the
- 47:07Speaker 2: first three weeks. In this game, I thought was a
- 47:10Speaker 2: little closer to what we saw in training camp, where
- 47:12Speaker 2: him You know, contributing regularly.
- 47:15Speaker 1: Just another quick addition of Troy's takes. Troy's takes.
- 47:18Speaker 9: Troy had an outstanding, we had a conversation during the
- 47:20Speaker 9: game about Jacoby Myers and his departure. And he was
- 47:24Speaker 9: very much on Paul's side of the street in terms
- 47:26Speaker 9: of that decision to swap him out for Juju Smith-Schuster.
- 47:29Speaker 1: It was pretty interesting.
- 47:30Speaker 2: Did not have a lot of very positive things to
- 47:33Speaker 2: say about Paul. The guy they acquired before they acquired him.
- 47:36Speaker 2: Not like the guy that, you know, Juju when he
- 47:39Speaker 2: got here.
- 47:39Speaker 6: Right.
- 47:39Speaker 1: But you could see what he was before he got here.
- 47:43Speaker 2: He had a knee injury and they knew that.
- 47:45Speaker 9: I think Troy said something effective like, Jacoby Myers is
- 47:47Speaker 9: like everything that you're trying to do for guys to be.
- 47:51Speaker 6: Literally.
- 47:52Speaker 1: Plus, his dad was a big fan of the show.
- 47:54Speaker 1: We told him. Mike and I told him.
- 47:55Speaker 3: Kobe Myers has been here since 2022. But, like, don't
- 47:58Speaker 3: you feel like.
- 47:59Speaker 1: It still hurts.
- 47:59Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 48:00Speaker 8: Like, by not bringing a guy... I feel like it, like,
- 48:03Speaker 8: it curses you. Like, you find this undrafted guy, you
- 48:06Speaker 8: build him up into this super reliable player.
- 48:08Speaker 3: We just got to move on. I hear everything you're saying.
- 48:11Speaker 3: You're 100% right. But we've got to move on. No,
- 48:14Speaker 3: I'm over it.
- 48:15Speaker 7: But I think it was really bad. I'm over it.
- 48:18Speaker 1: I'm over it.
- 48:19Speaker 4: But.
- 48:20Speaker 7: It was some bad juju, I think.
- 48:22Speaker 3: You're 100% right. It was a bad move at the time,
- 48:26Speaker 3: and I've never been more wrong about it.
- 48:28Speaker 1: Me too. I was with you.
- 48:29Speaker 3: And it was a bad move at the time, and
- 48:31Speaker 3: it's still a bad move, but it was four years ago.
- 48:34Speaker 1: Don't you know that Juju Schuster got two more yards
- 48:37Speaker 1: after catch than Inez Myers? Oh, yeah. I know.
- 48:41Speaker 2: There was a million yards after the catch because all
- 48:43Speaker 2: of Juju's catches came at the line of scrimmage, and
- 48:45Speaker 2: the only way you're getting yards is after the catch.
- 48:47Speaker 6: I know.
- 48:48Speaker 3: They averaged the same per reception, but everybody fixated on
- 48:52Speaker 3: the yards after catch.
- 48:53Speaker 2: I didn't understand that.
- 48:54Speaker 5: Jake in Fort Rucker writes in. Thank you for your service.
- 48:57Speaker 1: I was listening to the postgame show this week. Listening
- 49:01Speaker 1: to the postgame show this week. Can't listen live, so
- 49:03Speaker 1: I can't express my gratitude there. So, Fred, please pass
- 49:06Speaker 1: this message on. But I wanted to say what an
- 49:08Speaker 1: honor it is to have a legend on the postgame
- 49:10Speaker 1: show who has stuck with the team over the years
- 49:12Speaker 1: and has made a huge impact on me, my family,
- 49:15Speaker 1: the Patriots, and football. So many key moments in my
- 49:18Speaker 1: fandom have had him involved. in some way. And to
- 49:21Speaker 1: see him persevere through so much, no matter how much
- 49:24Speaker 1: people overlook or hate him, is inspiring. So, Paul, thank
- 49:27Speaker 1: you for all you do and have done. You're truly
- 49:30Speaker 1: a legend. I could tell the way Fred was reading it.
- 49:33Speaker 1: By the way, that Troy guy's pretty good, too. And
- 49:37Speaker 1: good addition to the team. Where'd you find him? That's funny.
- 49:39Speaker 1: All right. Time to take a break. Food's here. Matt

- 51:46Speaker 7: Age and eligibility varies by jurisdiction. What are your impressions
- 51:50Speaker 7: of the Raiders having watched their film?
- 51:53Speaker 15: Well, I think that they certainly understand how not to
- 51:55Speaker 15: beat themselves. The defense is very opportunistic. They hunt the
- 51:58Speaker 15: football and force 10 fumbles. which is very impressive as
- 52:04Speaker 15: a team.
- 52:05Speaker 6: Disruptive.
- 52:06Speaker 15: They do a lot defensively, which says a lot to
- 52:10Speaker 15: not only their scheme and then the coaches, but the
- 52:12Speaker 15: players for being able to handle as much as they do.
- 52:16Speaker 15: The multiplicity on first and second down, the looks that
- 52:19Speaker 15: they give you on third down, great challenge.
- 52:21Speaker 6: The offense really.
- 52:25Speaker 15: Stays committed to what they want to do, which is
- 52:28Speaker 15: run the football to find their They're playmakers. They've got
- 52:33Speaker 15: a great group of big skill players. I think Kirk
- 52:37Speaker 15: has done a great job of understanding when to keep
- 52:42Speaker 15: the ball down the field and when to get it
- 52:44Speaker 15: to guys that are uncovered underneath. That's just his ability
- 52:48Speaker 15: to say it's not there. Right now, their check downs
- 52:51Speaker 15: are guys that are moving.
- 52:52Speaker 6: They're on the run.
- 52:54Speaker 15: They turn what would be a 5-yard gain into 15-yard
- 52:56Speaker 15: gains because his ability to see that quickly. It's a
- 53:03Speaker 15: great challenge. It's a new opponent, somebody that we have
- 53:06Speaker 15: to really invest a lot of time in. I just
- 53:16Speaker 15: think that with the uncertainty here, that probably won't happen.
- 53:20Speaker 6: I wouldn't anticipate that happening.
- 53:22Speaker 15: Those guys have all worked really hard to get back
- 53:24Speaker 15: and You know, it's just kind of where the situation
- 53:28Speaker 15: is with the roster and trying to, you know, figure
- 53:31Speaker 15: out what we need to do, and so.
- 53:32Speaker 6: We'll probably not start those guys practicing.
- 53:35Speaker 2: Going back to the Raiders, what do you think of
- 53:37Speaker 2: the two tight ends, Bowers and Michael Mayer?
- 53:39Speaker 6: Yeah, they can't say enough about them.
- 53:41Speaker 15: I mean, really, you know, Brock's a receiver, and I mean, like, that's,
- 53:46Speaker 15: I mean, it's impressive what he does at his size
- 53:49Speaker 15: and the speed, the route craft, being able to catch,
- 53:53Speaker 15: you know, at the catch point, but I mean, he's
- 53:56Speaker 15: like a big slot receiver.
- 53:59Speaker 6: He's got downfield speed. He runs outward breaking routes.
- 54:02Speaker 15: He runs routes like a receiver, but then also he's
- 54:05Speaker 15: got the ability to double guys up inside, and I
- 54:09Speaker 15: think that Mike has really turned into a complete tight
- 54:12Speaker 15: end in everything that I think people that looked at
- 54:16Speaker 15: him coming out of the draft envisioned, the ability to
- 54:19Speaker 15: play at the line of scrimmage, the ability to block,
- 54:21Speaker 15: but also be able.
- 54:22Speaker 6: To excel as a you know, in the past game.
- 54:29Speaker 1: So from opposite right tackle, left tackle played a little
- 54:32Speaker 1: bit more there than he did normally, at least the
- 54:34Speaker 1: prior three weeks.
- 54:35Speaker 15: Do you have to expect and anticipate sort of the
- 54:37Speaker 15: same thing with Crosby? Max will go wherever he wants
- 54:40Speaker 15: to go and he'll do whatever he wants to do.
- 54:43Speaker 15: And it's worked out really, really well from a lot
- 54:45Speaker 15: of respect for Max Crosby as a, as a person
- 54:49Speaker 15: and also as a player. So we'll have to know
- 54:52Speaker 15: where he is on every single play. They have a,
- 54:55Speaker 15: really good group of, and it's been impressive. You know,
- 54:58Speaker 15: I mean, guys have come from different places and they've
- 55:00Speaker 15: really put together a cohesive group. You know, Butler was there,
- 55:07Speaker 15: Chin was there, Max was there, you know, Koontz was there,
- 55:11Speaker 15: but then, you know, they've been able to supplement that with,
- 55:16Speaker 15: you know, the guys off the football, Dean and Walker, and,
- 55:20Speaker 15: you know, obviously continue to add guys inside.
- 55:25Speaker 6: And then also pay.
- 55:26Speaker 15: So they've really come together and gelled well together, and
- 55:31Speaker 15: we'll have to know where Max is certainly to start
- 55:33Speaker 15: every play.
- 55:34Speaker 4: What were things looking practice-wise with Mondre Stevenson and Matt Collins?
- 55:38Speaker 15: I wouldn't anticipate Mac being out there, and I wouldn't
- 55:42Speaker 15: anticipate Mondre being out there today.
- 55:44Speaker 1: One more, Mike.
- 55:45Speaker 13: One during the game.
- 55:46Speaker 1: Next week, A.J. Brown might be. That's the future, but A.J.
- 55:49Speaker 6: Brown would be eligible perhaps. He won't be out there today.
- 55:52Speaker 15: I can promise you that because he's not eligible. I
- 55:56Speaker 15: can only talk to what I know for today.
- 55:58Speaker 1: Obviously, Max Crosby headlines his pass rush, but he's a
- 56:02Speaker 1: lot of simulated pressures as well. I think nine different
- 56:04Speaker 1: players with sacks. How does the way that they rush
- 56:06Speaker 1: the passer outside of the standard stuff kind of stand out?
- 56:08Speaker 15: Well, there's the front variation and bringing guys off the ball,
- 56:13Speaker 15: whether that's the linebackers. bringing the chin out, weak safety,
- 56:18Speaker 15: bringing the nickel. You know, they do a great job
- 56:22Speaker 15: with their games. They do a great job with pressure.
- 56:24Speaker 15: So that'll certainly be, you know, whether they choose to,
- 56:27Speaker 15: like you said, bring maybe just four and simulate it
- 56:30Speaker 15: or at times when they need to or want to
- 56:33Speaker 15: bring in the blitz zero.
- 56:37Speaker 3: Is there a chance he could play this weekend?
- 56:42Speaker 15: There's a chance he can play. There's no chance that
- 56:45Speaker 15: he'll practice today.
- 56:47Speaker 16: When you're coming off an energizing win, is it your
- 56:49Speaker 16: job to keep the team grounded and bring them back
- 56:53Speaker 16: a little bit, or do you want them to sort
- 56:55Speaker 16: of maintain that energy and that momentum moving forward?
- 56:59Speaker 15: Well, I think that that's something that you want to
- 57:01Speaker 15: be able to recreate and just say we have to
- 57:03Speaker 15: take the same approach as we did last week and
- 57:05Speaker 15: understand how critical and important each week in the National
- 57:09Speaker 15: Football League is, and it's a new opponent. But our
- 57:12Speaker 15: preparation has to stay the same, our urgency, the energy level,
- 57:16Speaker 15: and I think that that can certainly carry over to
- 57:19Speaker 15: an extent, but it has to translate to practice and
- 57:23Speaker 15: it has to build throughout the week.
- 57:25Speaker 2: Along those same lines, what did you see from Drake
- 57:27Speaker 2: May today on Sunday in Buffalo that you want to
- 57:29Speaker 2: see him carry forward now against the Raiders.
- 57:31Speaker 6: And moving forward?
- 57:33Speaker 15: Good, solid quarterback play. Made great decisions. His toughness showed up.
- 57:39Speaker 15: I thought his decision-making showed up. And, you know, lead
- 57:44Speaker 15: the football team. He named AFC Offensive Player of the
- 57:48Speaker 15: Week just after that performance.
- 57:50Speaker 7: What was it like to see him kind of get
- 57:51Speaker 7: that honor?
- 57:52Speaker 2: Sure.
- 57:52Speaker 6: I mean, it's great.
- 57:53Speaker 15: I mean, it's great to see him be recognized for
- 57:56Speaker 15: his performance and helping us win. I want us to
- 58:00Speaker 15: win those awards every single week, whether that's Drake or
- 58:04Speaker 15: anybody on offense or the performances that we could have
- 58:07Speaker 15: on defense or special teams.
- 58:10Speaker 9: Mike, Monday, I think you said Ben Brown, it was
- 58:13Speaker 9: too early to tell if Ben.
- 58:14Speaker 3: Brown would stay at Cragard because it was too soon.
- 58:18Speaker 3: So now after a few days of reviewing the film,
- 58:20Speaker 3: do you think that his performance is solid enough that
- 58:23Speaker 3: you can build up some continuity there I think.
- 58:26Speaker 6: Ben will be out there.
- 58:27Speaker 15: Ben will be slated to start a right guard and
- 58:31Speaker 15: then continue to work guys in there and take a
- 58:34Speaker 15: look at everybody at practice.
- 58:37Speaker 3: We talked a lot this summer about Kyle and his development.
- 58:40Speaker 3: How would you assess where he's at right now?
- 58:42Speaker 15: I think he continues to improve. Sometimes it's hard to
- 58:49Speaker 15: hear that or believe that. You've got to be able
- 58:52Speaker 15: to see the football and To be able to get it.
- 58:56Speaker 6: He's helped us out on the kickoff returns.
- 58:58Speaker 15: And again, he's, you know, I would have liked us
- 59:00Speaker 15: to throw a better ball to him down in the
- 59:03Speaker 15: end zone, but that didn't happen. I would say that
- 59:07Speaker 15: he's committed to working and improving. understanding more than one spot,
- 59:13Speaker 15: and excited about where he's going to go.
- 59:16Speaker 1: And now, great moments in.
- 59:20Speaker 1: History. It only gets better, Deuce. It only gets better.
- 59:23Speaker 7: You're so optimistic.
- 59:24Speaker 1: I'm trying to be. Everyone else is all doom and
- 59:26Speaker 1: gloom all the time. Somebody's got to prop you up.
- 59:27Speaker 1: You just have to say the words. You don't have
- 59:28Speaker 1: to believe them. Eric said he hasn't gotten bored yet.
- 59:32Speaker 3: I haven't.
- 59:33Speaker 1: I'm never bored. Ever. There's always a million things to do.
- 59:36Speaker 3: Are you working on another book?
- 59:37Speaker 1: Here we go. No. I just don't understand how people
- 59:40Speaker 1: can be bored.
- 59:41Speaker 9: There's a million things in life to do.
- 59:43Speaker 1: You cannot be bored. You have to be one of
- 59:45Speaker 1: the most boring people on earth to be bored. Wow.
- 59:49Speaker 6: Wow.
- 59:50Speaker 1: I don't really find there being a million things to
- 59:51Speaker 1: do just in my house. Don't tell my seven-year-old because
- 59:54Speaker 1: that's all I hear. I ain't bored. Especially if you
- 59:55Speaker 1: own a house. There's never a shortage of things to
- 59:58Speaker 1: do if you own your own house. That's true. If
- 1:00:02Speaker 1: you've got the... The willingness. Or the ability. Or the ability.
- 1:00:06Speaker 2: There's 9,000 things I could fix around my house, but
- 1:00:08Speaker 2: I don't dare do any of them because they'll just
- 1:00:10Speaker 2: need to be fixed again when I'm done fixing them.
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: Are you a good man with your hands?
- 1:00:14Speaker 2: I'm sure he's the best.
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: I'm sure he's the best. Come give me a massage.
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: That's another great moment from.
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: All right, back here on Patriots Unfiltered, 855-PATS-500 is the hotline.
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: Podcasts at Patriots.com is the email address. Do we need
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: to do any? Yeah, it's time for the co-pilot question.
- 1:00:32Speaker 14: Okay.
- 1:00:32Speaker 9: Presented by Microsoft Co-Pilot, where every day is game day
- 1:00:35Speaker 9: and every decision is powered by insight and innovation. Microsoft
- 1:00:38Speaker 9: technology helps make decisions faster, insights sharper, and strategies more adaptive.
- 1:00:42Speaker 9: And today we're going for a little insight on the
- 1:00:44Speaker 9: history of the Patriots and Raiders rivalry, which... First off,
- 1:00:48Speaker 9: we've got to, of course, have a quiz for Paul. Paul,
- 1:00:50Speaker 9: two teams have met 38 times.
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: I thought it was 37.
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: 37.
- 1:00:54Speaker 2: I only remember 37 of them.
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: Okay, good. You scared me for a second. Any thought
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: on what the record is there between the two teams?
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: 38 games. Pretty close.
- 1:01:10Speaker 2: I'm going to say 18.
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: No? Keep going. 18 and 20? You're right, except backward.
- 1:01:19Speaker 13: 2018.
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: 2018 for the Patriots. No ties. No ties. No ties.
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: But I thought it was a good time, too.
- 1:01:24Speaker 2: I was trying to come up with something.
- 1:01:25Speaker 9: Of course you were right on it.
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: But you see how bad I am at math?
- 1:01:29Speaker 2: I was trying to come up with something that had, like,
- 1:01:30Speaker 2: N2 ties, and I couldn't get the math right.
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: There were no ties, but... You know, I just think
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: their history is pretty rich, especially with the Patriots.
- 1:01:38Speaker 9: They're wearing their throwbacks this week, so we've got to
- 1:01:39Speaker 9: go back to 1976.
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: Of course, the Sugar Bear-Hamilton play.
- 1:01:43Speaker 9: Huge playoff moment for the Patriots.
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: Not wearing those uniforms, though. Not wearing those uniforms. Thank you, Paul. 85, though.
- 1:01:50Speaker 1: They meet again in the playoffs, 27-20. Second of Patriots'
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: three road wins. Big win. Kind of revenge.
- 1:01:56Speaker 9: Of course, in between that, you have the Daryl Stingley
- 1:01:58Speaker 9: situation in preseason. Patriots go back there and get a win.
- 1:02:03Speaker 9: And then, of course, the Tuck rule game. So, Three
- 1:02:05Speaker 9: times these two teams have met in the playoffs. It's
- 1:02:06Speaker 9: actually kind of a rich history. I also noticed three
- 1:02:09Speaker 9: very memorable playoffs.
- 1:02:11Speaker 6: Right.
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: All three of them you remember. Paul, back when Daryl
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: Stingley got hurt, he got nailed. Do you remember if
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: there was resentment? Was it Considered a dirty hit, or
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: was it just the way football was played back then?
- 1:02:27Speaker 2: No, it was considered a dirty hit, and there was
- 1:02:29Speaker 2: resentment that boiled over into the aftermath of that 1985
- 1:02:33Speaker 2: playoff game when Pat Sullivan confronted the Raiders.
- 1:02:37Speaker 1: Matt Millen, right?
- 1:02:38Speaker 2: Yeah, Matt Millen popped the moon. Yeah, Matt Millen ended
- 1:02:42Speaker 2: up hitting him. But that was one of the things
- 1:02:46Speaker 2: that he said. This is just, you know, for all the,
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: I think he said the crap that that organization has
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: given us over the years, you know, payback.
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:02:53Speaker 2: But yeah, and I think a lot of that was
- 1:02:55Speaker 2: related to Daryl Stingley.
- 1:02:57Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:02:57Speaker 9: Also a big rivalry between Al Davis and Billy Sullivan.
- 1:02:59Speaker 9: I figured exactly what that, but they were going back
- 1:03:01Speaker 9: and forth.
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: I didn't know that.
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: I didn't know about that.
- 1:03:04Speaker 9: I did that during my 85 podcast, came across some
- 1:03:07Speaker 9: of that stuff.
- 1:03:08Speaker 5: What was their beef?
- 1:03:08Speaker 9: I got to remember exactly. I mean, it was one, shoot,
- 1:03:11Speaker 9: I'll look it up. That wasn't part of the thing
- 1:03:13Speaker 9: I just meant to mention, but.
- 1:03:15Speaker 2: You just throw it out there and I don't have
- 1:03:16Speaker 2: the details.
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: I'll have it later as soon as I can Google it.
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: But no, I just think that's... And you want to.
- 1:03:20Speaker 2: Be my assistant historian.
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: And you want to be in journalism.
- 1:03:24Speaker 7: That's, like, such a man thing, too.
- 1:03:25Speaker 8: Like, I feel like it's a joke that, like, a
- 1:03:27Speaker 8: guy will come home from hanging out with his best
- 1:03:29Speaker 8: friend and be like, oh, my best friend's getting divorced.
- 1:03:32Speaker 7: And I was like, why? Like, what happened?
- 1:03:34Speaker 6: Where is he?
- 1:03:34Speaker 7: Like, what went wrong? And, oh, I don't know.
- 1:03:36Speaker 3: We didn't talk about it.
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: We were playing golf.
- 1:03:38Speaker 7: It's like, how are you not, like, the second there's drama,
- 1:03:40Speaker 7: you're not fishing that out.
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: I need the deets.
- 1:03:42Speaker 9: I would say generally my wife has way more questions. Like,
- 1:03:45Speaker 9: we have a workman coming to the house or something,
- 1:03:47Speaker 9: and she'll be, what did you ask him?
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: I'm like, can you write these down? Because I'm just
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: going to.
- 1:03:51Speaker 2: There's little things. I can't tell you how many times
- 1:03:55Speaker 2: I'll tell him, oh, yeah, you know, this guy, you know,
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: you know, we were playing with him. And, you know,
- 1:04:00Speaker 2: like a friend, but not like a really tight friend,
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: but like a guy that you've known for years.
- 1:04:05Speaker 7: More than an acquaintance.
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: What's he do? I don't know. What's he do for
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: a living? I have no idea.
- 1:04:11Speaker 3: Is he married?
- 1:04:11Speaker 7: Does he have kids? No clue.
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: Mike in Wilmington, yesterday's show where Evan called out that
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: he doesn't watch other teams unless they're on our schedule
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: connected a huge dot for me. Evan makes a lot
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: of comments calling various OK players top guys at the position.
- 1:04:27Speaker 1: And I never understood why. For example, he very recently
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: called A.J. Barner one of the top tight ends in
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: the league. I think I can easily name 16 teams
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: who would not trade their top tight end for Barner.
- 1:04:38Speaker 1: But this makes sense if Evan doesn't watch other teams.
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: So the lesson is to not take anything Evan says seriously.
- 1:04:45Speaker 2: I believe that that is the lesson.
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: He says he's just kidding.
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: That is the lesson that I would take away. But
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: I'm going to defend Eazy-E a little bit. I think
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: he was talking about someone had said that they hadn't
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: really seen many tight ends until recently. And I think
- 1:04:58Speaker 2: Evan said, no, they've actually seen a lot of good
- 1:04:59Speaker 2: tight ends. They had Barner in the first week, Brenton
- 1:05:02Speaker 2: Strange in week three, and Friermuth in the Pittsburgh game.
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: I don't think he called those guys the best in
- 1:05:09Speaker 2: the league. But they're all good.
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: They're good, yeah.
- 1:05:12Speaker 2: Brenton Strange is a really good, solid, underrated tight end.
- 1:05:16Speaker 2: But he's not like Brock Bowers or, you know, Dalton Kincaid.
- 1:05:22Speaker 2: Those kinds of guys.
- 1:05:23Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: Real quick, let me close the loop on this. It
- 1:05:25Speaker 1: was an antitrust legal battle.
- 1:05:27Speaker 9: When Al Davis sued the NFL to move the Raiders
- 1:05:30Speaker 9: from Oakland to L.A., Billy Sullivan remained a staunch league loyalist.
- 1:05:33Speaker 9: Sullivan actively traveled to testify against Davis in court, prompting
- 1:05:37Speaker 9: Davis to threaten retaliation by testifying in shareholder lawsuits against
- 1:05:41Speaker 9: Sullivan's own family ownership. And then this is something I
- 1:05:44Speaker 9: didn't know. Ironically, Sullivan's daughter Kathleen was married to Joseph Aliotto,
- 1:05:48Speaker 9: the high-profile antitrust lawyer who successfully represented Al Davis in
- 1:05:52Speaker 9: this legal war against the NFL.
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: So, yeah, it's a deep history.
- 1:05:57Speaker 9: You know, two teams that opposite coasts, generally speaking, they
- 1:06:00Speaker 9: moved around a little bit, but there's more to this rivalry,
- 1:06:04Speaker 9: I think, than you generally would think.
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: A lot of, as we said, the three memorable playoff games.
- 1:06:09Speaker 3: What special teamer scored a touchdown in that division or
- 1:06:14Speaker 3: round game in 85?
- 1:06:15Speaker 9: Was it Mosey Tatutupu?
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: Cedric Jones?
- 1:06:19Speaker 9: Think it was jim bowman jim bowman okay i'm not
- 1:06:21Speaker 9: sure that it was.
- 1:06:22Speaker 2: Actually yeah i know they fumbled the kickoff they scored
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: a touchdown off of a kickoff return fumble i know
- 1:06:28Speaker 2: that play i thought it was jim bowman he's still
- 1:06:30Speaker 2: living off of that that's his.
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: Wow now you took it to a mean place that's
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: his that's his claim to fame whenever he is he
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: coming this weekend you know you bring up happy to
- 1:06:40Speaker 1: have you back jim bowman come on back.
- 1:06:42Speaker 5: That's like his stairway to heaven you gotta play the hits.
- 1:06:45Speaker 2: Didn't Wasn't Jim Bowman, I don't know if he still does,
- 1:06:47Speaker 2: but wasn't he involved in the uniform police?
- 1:06:51Speaker 5: Max Lane took that over. It used to be Jim Bowman.
- 1:06:54Speaker 2: Max does it now?
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: Yeah, Max Lane. That's not a good job. No.
- 1:06:58Speaker 5: Players don't like that.
- 1:06:59Speaker 2: They don't like that guy.
- 1:07:00Speaker 9: We talked about it on the pregame show with not
- 1:07:03Speaker 9: having your calves covered up and all that stuff.
- 1:07:05Speaker 2: Pregame, you can do whatever you want.
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: Yeah, so what we're talking about is there's a guy
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: assigned at every game, and it's usually an alumnus who...
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: Has to look at all the uniforms for both teams
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: and write on a clipboard who's got a uniform violation.
- 1:07:20Speaker 8: Wow.
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: So he's snitching on guys. Fun police.
- 1:07:22Speaker 7: Fashion police.
- 1:07:23Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:07:23Speaker 2: Fred, you'd be good at that because you're anti-fun.
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: I don't care about the uniform.
- 1:07:27Speaker 7: Deuce, would you like that job or not really?
- 1:07:30Speaker 1: No, no, no.
- 1:07:31Speaker 9: Because I'm more about just like what's cool and not
- 1:07:33Speaker 9: like what's.
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: Against the rules.
- 1:07:35Speaker 7: You would be pro swag.
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: I often say that.
- 1:07:37Speaker 2: Deuce is about what's cool.
- 1:07:38Speaker 1: Yeah. What's cool, you know?
- 1:07:40Speaker 3: What's cool?
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: Steven in Ireland writes in, question for today. Apologies if
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: this has been brought up. But wondering, much of the Patriots'
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: slow start, especially the quarterback play, comes back to the
- 1:07:52Speaker 1: start as playing in no preseason games. At the time,
- 1:07:55Speaker 1: Vrabel said something around the depth of the team not
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: being there. Why then did they not play in those games?
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: But four weeks in, we are dealing with injuries all
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: over the team. We look incredibly rusty and sloppy at times.
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: Do you think Vrabel will look back and think, I
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: can't not play the starters in preseason moving forward as
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: it'll put us on the back foot early in the season?
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: I don't think he would at all.
- 1:08:19Speaker 13: No.
- 1:08:19Speaker 2: I don't think that has anything to do with it.
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: How was the start to last season?
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: Same thing.
- 1:08:23Speaker 6: Same thing.
- 1:08:24Speaker 2: They played plenty in the preseason.
- 1:08:26Speaker 1: Don't see them as necessarily connected.
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: It's almost like the preseason doesn't really have a lot
- 1:08:29Speaker 2: to do with what happens in the regular season.
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: It's almost like.
- 1:08:32Speaker 9: Hopefully he feels like he has more depth and he
- 1:08:36Speaker 9: can play guys a little bit and not feel like
- 1:08:37Speaker 9: he's risking.
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: The well-being of the team.
- 1:08:38Speaker 2: I have no problem if he has the same kind
- 1:08:41Speaker 2: of approach every year. I think when you have a
- 1:08:46Speaker 2: younger team and younger guys that you're relying on, Drake
- 1:08:50Speaker 2: May is entering his first full year in 25 as
- 1:08:53Speaker 2: the starter. Will Campbell was going to start in his first.
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: Like you have all of these guys that have never
- 1:08:58Speaker 2: played yet. I understand why you want to play them
- 1:09:00Speaker 2: in the preseason. But I think generally when you have
- 1:09:03Speaker 2: teams that have been together a little bit and as
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: you start to get a little experience, I think the
- 1:09:07Speaker 2: need to play.
- 1:09:08Speaker 3: In the preseason diminishes greatly. And I think that's the
- 1:09:11Speaker 3: way most teams treat it.
- 1:09:12Speaker 5: As long as you have those joint practices.
- 1:09:14Speaker 9: Yeah, for sure. Definitely get your rookies out there, though.
- 1:09:18Speaker 2: And I'll go back with what Mike said, both in
- 1:09:21Speaker 2: press conferences and in one of the production meetings before
- 1:09:24Speaker 2: the preseason games. Because, Mike, I don't know if you know,
- 1:09:26Speaker 2: but I'm usually.
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: Involved in those. I've heard that.
- 1:09:28Speaker 9: You've told me that too many times, really.
- 1:09:31Speaker 2: But he says all the time, like, I just don't
- 1:09:34Speaker 2: see the difference between getting a guy a series. So
- 1:09:37Speaker 2: he plays six, eight plays. and not playing at all.
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: What rust have you knocked off?
- 1:09:43Speaker 1: Nothing.
- 1:09:43Speaker 2: All you're doing is putting a guy at risk, potentially
- 1:09:46Speaker 2: to take a hit that you don't want him to take.
- 1:09:48Speaker 1: Anthony writes in, he says, he's sick of the Dobbs hate.
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: I know he had a rough start, but the hate
- 1:09:53Speaker 1: seems forced, and it's pissing me off. He's had this
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: type of start every year of his NFL career. The
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: stats through three to four games is eerily similar. He
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: often finishes strong. It's a new offense for him, and
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: he's building chemistry. Drake threw to him Threw him two touchdowns,
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: and Dobbs had two fourth-down conversions with some impressive footwork
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: to remain in balance. Let the guy heat up. Get
- 1:10:17Speaker 1: over Booty and Diggs. That's kind of what we said.
- 1:10:20Speaker 1: I like that email.
- 1:10:21Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: That's why I like it. Because it agrees with me.
- 1:10:24Speaker 9: If Matt Collins couldn't go, I'll be kind of morbidly
- 1:10:27Speaker 9: fascinated just to see how they make it work and
- 1:10:30Speaker 9: what they do with those guys, and I'd love to
- 1:10:31Speaker 9: have him out there, and I think it'll be hard
- 1:10:33Speaker 9: without him, but it'd be interesting to see what they do.
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: And I like Alex's point about Dobbs when he kind
- 1:10:37Speaker 2: of arrived.
- 1:10:38Speaker 3: I think that was like, wow, that's a lot of
- 1:10:40Speaker 3: money for Dobbs.
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: And then, you know, whether A.J. Brown was coming or not. Like,
- 1:10:46Speaker 2: I do wonder, and then.
- 1:10:47Speaker 8: Go look at the comments on those posts of us, like,
- 1:10:49Speaker 8: announcing Dobbs. It's all like, this is not A.J.
- 1:10:53Speaker 7: Brown. I just think it wasn't a warm welcome.
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: He didn't get a warm reception.
- 1:10:57Speaker 7: Why would you welcome a new player like that to
- 1:11:00Speaker 7: your team?
- 1:11:00Speaker 3: I don't know.
- 1:11:01Speaker 2: And I also think in Boston, and I think this is.
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: Spoiled. People are so mean on Twitter.
- 1:11:05Speaker 2: And I do think this is something that's... I don't
- 1:11:07Speaker 2: want to say unique to Boston, but Boston is a
- 1:11:11Speaker 2: little bit different than a lot of other places. Whatever
- 1:11:14Speaker 2: you do right away is so important in Boston. When
- 1:11:18Speaker 2: you're a new guy, if he had the game that
- 1:11:21Speaker 2: he had Sunday in week one, and then he had
- 1:11:25Speaker 2: the ensuing games, in other words, just reverse them, no
- 1:11:29Speaker 2: one would be killing him. But the first thing he
- 1:11:33Speaker 2: did was a hellaciously bad drop that... It was a
- 1:11:36Speaker 2: huge play in the fourth quarter. And it's going to
- 1:11:41Speaker 2: take so much more for people to forget that. And
- 1:11:44Speaker 2: that happens in Boston sports a lot.
- 1:11:46Speaker 8: And that being in Boston and then compounded with the
- 1:11:50Speaker 8: fact that Internet dialogue has just gotten so out of control,
- 1:11:54Speaker 8: and people just say anything they want.
- 1:11:56Speaker 1: You're real. Live on the phone.
- 1:11:59Speaker 3: Keyboard warriors.
- 1:12:00Speaker 8: I was going to swear like Mike did yesterday with
- 1:12:03Speaker 8: the S word, but the S posters.
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: Kind of twice. This guy. All right. 855-PASS-500. You know
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: we had to go there eventually. Christian in L.A., what's
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: going on?
- 1:12:15Speaker 10: Hey, you guys.
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: Hey, you guys.
- 1:12:16Speaker 13: And hey, Miss Muse. Good to hear from you guys today.
- 1:12:19Speaker 13: It's Thursday. It's football day. Here we go.
- 1:12:22Speaker 14: First off, to my man Perm in D.C., man, the
- 1:12:26Speaker 14: only thing you need to teach your kid is how
- 1:12:28Speaker 14: not to wind up driving a Hyundai and working part-time
- 1:12:31Speaker 14: like you.
- 1:12:32Speaker 13: So let's move on. As far as the football stuff goes.
- 1:12:35Speaker 2: Don't condone that kind of humor.
- 1:12:37Speaker 13: As far as the football stuff goes, anybody who calls
- 1:12:39Speaker 13: me a weasel gets what they get, Paul.
- 1:12:40Speaker 6: Thank you.
- 1:12:42Speaker 13: As far as the.
- 1:12:42Speaker 14: Football stuff goes, I think you guys will agree that.
- 1:12:47Speaker 13: Efton Chisholm and Pop Douglas, like a.
- 1:12:49Speaker 14: Lot of receivers in the league, will do as good
- 1:12:52Speaker 14: as Drake may decide. The quarterback, like the two things
- 1:12:56Speaker 14: I think it takes to be a good receiver in
- 1:12:58Speaker 14: this league is obviously skills and talent. But then you
- 1:13:01Speaker 14: also need to have a quarterback who likes to go
- 1:13:03Speaker 14: into your type of receiver. So until Drake May decides
- 1:13:06Speaker 14: he likes throwing at the shorter, slotty, sort of jitterbug receivers,
- 1:13:12Speaker 14: they're not going to do that well. If he decides
- 1:13:15Speaker 14: he likes throwing towards those guys, even if the need comes.
- 1:13:18Speaker 13: Up or not, then they will. That's one thing.
- 1:13:21Speaker 2: Christian, hold on one second.
- 1:13:24Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:13:25Speaker 2: I don't ever recall a time that I agreed with
- 1:13:28Speaker 2: one of your takes more than I agreed with that.
- 1:13:31Speaker 2: I think that's the whole thing in a nutshell. I
- 1:13:35Speaker 2: don't mean that as a shot at Drake May, and
- 1:13:38Speaker 2: I don't mean as a shot at Efton Chisholm or
- 1:13:39Speaker 2: Demario Douglas. I think Christian is 1,000% right. Until he
- 1:13:44Speaker 2: decides that he wants to roll the ball to those guys.
- 1:13:47Speaker 7: Is Christian singing?
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: That's what this is all about.
- 1:13:51Speaker 2: It's Drake May's comfort level. And this is why I
- 1:13:54Speaker 2: said to, when I made that comment about, I don't
- 1:13:57Speaker 2: think he particularly likes throwing balls. Short crossing routes all day.
- 1:14:01Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 1:14:02Speaker 2: Like he wants to push the ball downfield. And I'm
- 1:14:04Speaker 2: not telling you that that he's right, but I'm just
- 1:14:06Speaker 2: telling you that's what he seems more comfortable doing. And
- 1:14:10Speaker 2: Christian is right. Like he is never like. It's funny,
- 1:14:14Speaker 2: the first three.
- 1:14:15Speaker 3: Weeks, all I saw in the film review from the
- 1:14:18Speaker 3: people that I read, you know, Greg Bedard, Ev.
- 1:14:21Speaker 2: You know, and, you know, many others, the Herald guys,
- 1:14:24Speaker 2: Andrew Kelly and Doug Kai, too. Demario Douglas is open
- 1:14:27Speaker 2: on this play. Demario Douglas is open on that play.
- 1:14:29Speaker 2: Drake missed him on this play. And then, you know,
- 1:14:32Speaker 2: Efton Chisholm comes in and makes two catches. I mean,
- 1:14:34Speaker 2: let's face it. Like, if he had, like, ten catches,
- 1:14:36Speaker 2: I'd say, oh, wow, there's a huge difference here. He
- 1:14:38Speaker 2: had two catches just like Demario Douglas did. They were
- 1:14:41Speaker 2: huge catches. I'm not comparing the two. He clearly doesn't.
- 1:14:46Speaker 2: feel the same throwing the ball to those guys as
- 1:14:48Speaker 2: he does to Matt Collins in this past game, Romeo Dobbs.
- 1:14:52Speaker 9: I mean, we joke about it, but like my brother Luke,
- 1:14:54Speaker 9: like he grew up throwing backyard football to his giant
- 1:14:57Speaker 9: ass brothers.
- 1:14:58Speaker 2: Like, you know, playing professional basketball in Europe or Asia.
- 1:15:01Speaker 2: I think he's in Japan, right? Yeah.
- 1:15:04Speaker 1: But that's as I look to next year.
- 1:15:06Speaker 9: I mean, there's some decisions they'll have to make on
- 1:15:08Speaker 9: the roster with at least Matt Collins and, and pop Douglas. And,
- 1:15:12Speaker 9: As I look into the draft, you start to realize
- 1:15:15Speaker 9: Drake has a type. It's like one of your boys
- 1:15:17Speaker 9: has got a type. We're going to hook him up
- 1:15:18Speaker 9: with somebody we know what he likes. And I think
- 1:15:20Speaker 9: he likes bigger receivers and maybe a bigger slot receiver
- 1:15:25Speaker 9: as opposed to Chisholm can come back, and if Chisholm
- 1:15:28Speaker 9: starts to pop, then he– I've said it many times.
- 1:15:30Speaker 9: I'd love to have an array of receivers that cover
- 1:15:32Speaker 9: a little quick guy, a big contested catch guy, a
- 1:15:34Speaker 9: run-after catch guy, have all those elements.
- 1:15:36Speaker 3: And let's say that Fred, who is the wide receiver whisperer–
- 1:15:41Speaker 3: I mean, we can't just overlook the amount of times
- 1:15:43Speaker 3: that he's been right on wide receivers. I mean, he
- 1:15:46Speaker 3: discovered Justin Jefferson before he was– well, actually, he was
- 1:15:50Speaker 3: one of the best players in college football. But anyway,
- 1:15:53Speaker 3: he was on Justin Jefferson before everybody else. And what
- 1:15:57Speaker 3: if Fred's right? What if Efton Chisholm is like this
- 1:16:00Speaker 3: guy who's, you know, an 80-90 catch guy waiting to happen? Like,
- 1:16:05Speaker 3: that's why I say, like, I'm not saying that Drake
- 1:16:06Speaker 3: May is right to not wanting to throw the ball
- 1:16:09Speaker 3: to those smaller guys. Because he might be losing out
- 1:16:13Speaker 3: on production that he could have.
- 1:16:15Speaker 2: But I think Christian's right. I think that this is,
- 1:16:18Speaker 2: until Drake decides these guys need to get fed... It's
- 1:16:22Speaker 2: not on the receivers.
- 1:16:24Speaker 9: And that goes to my morbid fascination where you ain't
- 1:16:26Speaker 9: going to get– if Matt Helms doesn't go, you ain't
- 1:16:28Speaker 9: got no tall guys.
- 1:16:28Speaker 1: I mean, Dobbs has got some size to him.
- 1:16:30Speaker 2: But it's kind of like what I– I made a
- 1:16:32Speaker 2: lot of the DeMario Douglas last year, like the efficiency.
- 1:16:35Speaker 2: It's not like Douglas had 30 catches on 100 targets.
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: Right. You know what I mean?
- 1:16:40Speaker 2: Then I would say, oh, that's on Douglas. Like, they're
- 1:16:43Speaker 2: just not in the same– like Kyle Williams. Kyle Williams
- 1:16:46Speaker 2: had like 10 catches and over 20 targets. Like– You know, that's.
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: Not good efficiency. Like, clearly, Kyle Williams.
- 1:16:53Speaker 3: when they target him, wasn't always where Drake may want
- 1:16:55Speaker 3: him to be.
- 1:16:56Speaker 1: Right.
- 1:16:56Speaker 2: But they're not targeting, like last year, they had an
- 1:17:00Speaker 2: incredibly high success rate when they targeted not just Diggs.
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: Which was through the roof. Crazy.
- 1:17:05Speaker 3: But Hollins, Booty, Douglas, when they targeted those guys, the
- 1:17:09Speaker 3: efficiency was really good.
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: Yeah. He finished with over 70%. Right.
- 1:17:14Speaker 9: And that efficiency with Diggs is something that, keep in mind,
- 1:17:17Speaker 9: it's not always, right, it's not always, well, if the
- 1:17:19Speaker 9: guy's under 6'2, he's not going to throw to him,
- 1:17:21Speaker 9: but You know, that's just something to keep in mind
- 1:17:23Speaker 9: as they approach the receiver position.
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: Blake in Omaha, I'll be attending my first Patriots game
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: this weekend, was wondering what the early weather forecast shows.
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: If it's rainy, I will be sure to get my
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: Fred chowder. No, legal seafood chowder. In either way, rain
- 1:17:37Speaker 1: or no rain, get it. But what do we got?
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: It does look like a chance of rain. I thought
- 1:17:41Speaker 1: there was a chance of rain. I heard the rain
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: was later in the day. Later in the day.
- 1:17:44Speaker 9: It looks like it's going to arrive not until.
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: What, 8 o'clock? Yeah.
- 1:17:48Speaker 9: Oh, good.
- 1:17:48Speaker 2: Maybe we can be home before the rain.
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: Just a gray day.
- 1:17:53Speaker 9: Not a gorgeous New England fall day, but I think
- 1:17:55Speaker 9: if you're going to be outside watching a football game.
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: Perfect fall weather for football.
- 1:17:59Speaker 2: Alex will be driving so long that the rain will
- 1:18:02Speaker 2: start and stop.
- 1:18:03Speaker 7: I might not even get rain at all out there.
- 1:18:05Speaker 8: So that's what happened for the Nor'easter.
- 1:18:08Speaker 7: We barely got any.
- 1:18:10Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: But you barely got rain?
- 1:18:12Speaker 7: Yeah, it wasn't too bad.
- 1:18:13Speaker 10: Oh, wow.
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: It rained, for sure.
- 1:18:15Speaker 5: It just depended on where you lived.
- 1:18:16Speaker 1: Did you need the Jenny, Fred? Didn't need it.
- 1:18:19Speaker 9: No.
- 1:18:19Speaker 2: But it was comforting.
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: Yeah. Just in case. Comforting to know.
- 1:18:22Speaker 7: In Rhode Island, the front yard was, like, flooded. That's right.
- 1:18:26Speaker 7: And then it got to Western Mass, and it was sunny.
- 1:18:29Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:18:31Speaker 9: You live really far away. Alex talks about her commute.
- 1:18:34Speaker 1: Like, I mean, every day she's got to fight a
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: war just to get here. Like, the Mass Pike.
- 1:18:37Speaker 7: I feel like it takes the same time. As Paul's,
- 1:18:40Speaker 7: it's just longer distance.
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: Yeah, and you probably get more traffic.
- 1:18:43Speaker 7: How many miles? High, like 85.
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: Oh, each way?
- 1:18:48Speaker 8: Yeah, man.
- 1:18:49Speaker 5: Oh, so you're doing like 170 miles a week?
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. She needs an electric pump a day. I
- 1:18:54Speaker 1: mean a day.
- 1:18:54Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: I do 120 a day.
- 1:18:55Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: I do 100.
- 1:19:00Speaker 7: But you guys deal with way worse traffic than I do.
- 1:19:02Speaker 7: I don't.
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: It probably takes me longer. You don't.
- 1:19:04Speaker 7: Not even in the summer?
- 1:19:06Speaker 5: You avoid it on Fridays.
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: Fridays are the day you can't.
- 1:19:11Speaker 6: True.
- 1:19:12Speaker 1: I just love the way you said that. I've earned it.
- 1:19:15Speaker 1: I take it.
- 1:19:16Speaker 3: You should.
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: I'm not fooling anybody.
- 1:19:19Speaker 6: You should.
- 1:19:20Speaker 9: I mean, if you live where you live, like trying
- 1:19:21Speaker 9: to get home on Friday, you're like.
- 1:19:23Speaker 1: Forget it. What am I going to do?
- 1:19:24Speaker 7: Have you noticed an uptick in traffic getting home on Thursdays?
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: A little bit, but it's never that bad. You've kind
- 1:19:30Speaker 1: of noticed that, haven't you, Paul?
- 1:19:32Speaker 7: If I had to go through the city every day,
- 1:19:34Speaker 7: I would.
- 1:19:35Speaker 2: Lose my mind.
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: I don't go through the city.
- 1:19:36Speaker 2: But Thursday is the heaviest traffic day of the week.
- 1:19:38Speaker 7: What do you take, though? That's where you take the
- 1:19:41Speaker 7: whole way up?
- 1:19:42Speaker 8: If I had to take 93 or 95 every day,
- 1:19:45Speaker 8: I would lose my mind.
- 1:19:47Speaker 2: Well, 128 is 95, technically.
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: But if you take... If you go... The Californians. If
- 1:19:53Speaker 1: you go through the city....
- 1:19:57Speaker 2: It's a little less miles, but it'll take you longer.
- 1:20:00Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:20:01Speaker 2: So it's like six or seven miles longer going around
- 1:20:05Speaker 2: the city, which is what 128 does. But it's a
- 1:20:07Speaker 2: little bit faster. But there's no two ways around it. Like,
- 1:20:11Speaker 2: there's traffic. It's going to take me an hour and
- 1:20:13Speaker 2: a half minimum.
- 1:20:15Speaker 5: Let's go to North Carolina. Eldred.
- 1:20:18Speaker 1: What's up, Eldred?
- 1:20:19Speaker 7: Eldred.
- 1:20:21Speaker 1: Eldred. Maybe he got stuck in one of those weigh stations.
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: You know those things? Yeah. Those are weird, huh? They
- 1:20:29Speaker 1: are weird.
- 1:20:30Speaker 5: Like weigh station closed. Then sometimes they're open.
- 1:20:33Speaker 1: You see all these cars, the trucks lined up and
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: they have to go in and get weighed. That's silly.
- 1:20:38Speaker 7: Weird.
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: I would be really annoyed if I was a truck driver. Oh, man,
- 1:20:42Speaker 1: it's open. Come on. Jordan's is in Tampa. What's up, Jordan? Hey, guys.
- 1:20:49Speaker 11: Thanks for taking my call. It's funny. I was thinking
- 1:20:53Speaker 11: about it over the last few weeks since the season started.
- 1:20:56Speaker 11: More of a philosophical question about young quarterbacks in the
- 1:21:00Speaker 11: league today. I'm in my early 30s, so I grew
- 1:21:02Speaker 11: up with Brady.
- 1:21:07Speaker 11: Rogers, you know, Ben Roethlisberger more of like the traditional
- 1:21:12Speaker 11: or people would call it back then you would call
- 1:21:15Speaker 11: them like a game manager, you know, other quarterbacks do
- 1:21:18Speaker 11: like Matt Ryan game managers. They had excellent skill, but
- 1:21:21Speaker 11: they really were not like you would call them like
- 1:21:23Speaker 11: the superstar of the team making crazy plays. But really
- 1:21:27Speaker 11: I feel like it started mostly with like Patrick Mahomes.
- 1:21:31Speaker 11: I mean, there's always other cases throughout history of guys
- 1:21:34Speaker 11: who could make crazy plays, but like, More in the
- 1:21:36Speaker 11: generation now, I see like Patrick Mahomes, Caleb Williams, these guys,
- 1:21:41Speaker 11: Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen. It's more of the norm now
- 1:21:44Speaker 11: to have these guys that just make plays that make
- 1:21:47Speaker 11: you scratch your head. So I'm wondering, like these young
- 1:21:49Speaker 11: guys coming into the league, if I'm seeing these established
- 1:21:52Speaker 11: veterans making these crazy plays. Do you think the guys
- 1:21:56Speaker 11: just feel like they have to kind of extend themselves?
- 1:22:00Speaker 11: You know, they have to make plays with their legs.
- 1:22:02Speaker 11: They have to have a crazy arm. And for someone
- 1:22:05Speaker 11: like Drake, who is seeing this, maybe Josh is telling them,
- 1:22:09Speaker 11: you know, stay in the system, make the right play.
- 1:22:11Speaker 11: But just the norm now is like you feel like
- 1:22:14Speaker 11: you have to be this guy that makes these insane
- 1:22:17Speaker 11: plays because that's what the new norm is. in the NFL.
- 1:22:21Speaker 11: So I was just thinking, do you think that maybe
- 1:22:23Speaker 11: contributes to Drake kind of trying to do too much
- 1:22:26Speaker 11: because that's what his generation has seen as a precedent
- 1:22:29Speaker 11: in the league.
- 1:22:29Speaker 13: Thank you guys for.
- 1:22:30Speaker 1: Taking my call. All right. Thanks, Jordan.
- 1:22:32Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: Interesting question.
- 1:22:33Speaker 2: I think it's case by case. It is an interesting thing.
- 1:22:36Speaker 2: And I don't think there's a right or wrong answer
- 1:22:37Speaker 2: to it because I think it's all, it's.
- 1:22:39Speaker 9: Hard to tell what a player is thinking about the
- 1:22:41Speaker 9: pressure on them.
- 1:22:42Speaker 2: And I would just say that like he's, he started,
- 1:22:45Speaker 2: he rattled off a handful of quarterbacks that he grew
- 1:22:47Speaker 2: up watching, you know, Brady, Rodgers, Roethlisberger. I think Rodgers
- 1:22:53Speaker 2: and Roethlisberger are a lot closer to what we're talking
- 1:22:55Speaker 2: about now when they came into the league. Now, you're
- 1:22:59Speaker 2: thinking of Rodgers, what you kind of see now, he's
- 1:23:01Speaker 2: a statue. Rodgers was wildly mobile.
- 1:23:05Speaker 1: He was always extending plays.
- 1:23:06Speaker 2: Throughout his MVP tenure. And Roethlisberger, the same.
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: Well, I have a theory.
- 1:23:11Speaker 2: Roethlisberger was a lot like Josh Allen, like younger in
- 1:23:13Speaker 2: his career.
- 1:23:14Speaker 1: I have a theory. If you're a talented quarterback, If
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: you come from a program, the less you had talent
- 1:23:21Speaker 1: around you, the more you feel you have to do
- 1:23:23Speaker 1: when you get to the league. And the quarterbacks that
- 1:23:26Speaker 1: come from the Alabamas and that have all the talent around,
- 1:23:29Speaker 1: they're more patient and more trusting of the receivers.
- 1:23:33Speaker 2: I like your theory, but I also think that's case
- 1:23:36Speaker 2: by case. Like, you get the kid, you know, you
- 1:23:39Speaker 2: get Mac Jones.
- 1:23:40Speaker 7: Mac Jones, Jalen Hurts, Tua.
- 1:23:42Speaker 2: Okay, but then you have Jalen Hurts, Tua.
- 1:23:46Speaker 2: The kid who came out.
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: Bryce Young. But don't you think Jalen Hurts is patient?
- 1:23:51Speaker 2: Jalen Hurts is a scrambling running quarterback who's almost useless
- 1:23:56Speaker 2: as a drop-back passer.
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: But I think he's accused of sometimes being too patient
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: back there and too slow.
- 1:24:04Speaker 2: But when he was at his best, he was running.
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: Oh, he runs.
- 1:24:07Speaker 2: And now he doesn't want to run anymore, and that's
- 1:24:09Speaker 2: why he's just an average run-of-the-mill quarterback now.
- 1:24:11Speaker 1: Yeah, but even Drake, North Carolina, he didn't really have
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: a lot of talent around him. He had to be
- 1:24:16Speaker 1: the guy. Um, I don't know what kind of talent
- 1:24:19Speaker 1: Josh Allen had at Wyoming, but I can't imagine it
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: was top tier, you know? Um, If you were the
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: best guy always on the field, you come into the
- 1:24:30Speaker 1: league thinking, I'm still the best guy on the field,
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: and a lot of times that's not the case.
- 1:24:36Speaker 2: I think it's case by case. Ohio State has as
- 1:24:38Speaker 2: much talent as anybody, and they've had a lot of
- 1:24:41Speaker 2: mobile quarterbacks over the years. Michigan has as much talent
- 1:24:43Speaker 2: as anybody, and they've had pocket passes.
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: To me, there's a difference between being a mobile quarterback
- 1:24:48Speaker 1: and a quarterback who's always trying to play hero ball.
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: Is that what he's saying? Like it's terrible? He said
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: that there's a pressure to do those things.
- 1:24:57Speaker 2: Well, I think there's a necessity to do those things
- 1:25:00Speaker 2: in the NFL.
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: Well, I think if you have the talent, do it.
- 1:25:02Speaker 2: Like if you're Tom Brady and you can decipher every
- 1:25:04Speaker 2: defense before it even happens, then have at it. Like
- 1:25:09Speaker 2: who's doing that in the pocket that effectively anymore?
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: Mahomes maybe.
- 1:25:13Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:25:14Speaker 4: Like.
- 1:25:14Speaker 2: You need to have the ability to beat these defenses.
- 1:25:17Speaker 2: I think you need to have some. That's why I
- 1:25:18Speaker 2: said there's no right or wrong answer. It's hard. And
- 1:25:22Speaker 2: I think it's case by case.
- 1:25:23Speaker 9: Yeah, the level of the athleticism, too, just everywhere, especially
- 1:25:26Speaker 9: at the skill positions, has raised. And now, you know,
- 1:25:28Speaker 9: just every quarterback can kind of move. I mean, there's
- 1:25:31Speaker 9: very rarely do you have guys.
- 1:25:33Speaker 2: I don't think Drake May is overly effective when he's
- 1:25:35Speaker 2: just sitting in the pocket throwing. I think he needs to, like,
- 1:25:39Speaker 2: the touchdown pass to Efton Chisholm. It's like a little...
- 1:25:42Speaker 2: On the move. It's a little roll, and that's when
- 1:25:44Speaker 2: I think his passing.
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: Is at its best.
- 1:25:45Speaker 9: Do you think, because we talked about this a little bit,
- 1:25:47Speaker 9: and I was on with Arkan last night, and I
- 1:25:49Speaker 9: kind of came.
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: To it as I was talking to him with just that.
- 1:25:51Speaker 2: You were on with Arkan last night?
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: I was, yeah, yeah.
- 1:25:53Speaker 2: Why did you not run this by me beforehand?
- 1:25:54Speaker 1: You didn't tell Paul. When you're on shows, you know.
- 1:25:57Speaker 3: Mine or otherwise, I want to know.
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: I thought you'd keep track of my schedule.
- 1:26:01Speaker 9: But, no, I thought, you know, him rushing right out
- 1:26:03Speaker 9: of the gate and just getting a big game with
- 1:26:04Speaker 9: his legs, if that kind of helped him, you know,
- 1:26:06Speaker 9: just kind of feeling.
- 1:26:07Speaker 2: That was my theory. He probably heard that on my show.
- 1:26:10Speaker 1: Travis in West Virginia, now you're answering weather forecast questions. Again,
- 1:26:14Speaker 1: there's something called the Internet.
- 1:26:16Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 1:26:16Speaker 1: That's true. But I think callers from out of the
- 1:26:20Speaker 1: area like to hear it from people who are in
- 1:26:22Speaker 1: the area.
- 1:26:23Speaker 2: I love our listeners because they're so mean to each other.
- 1:26:26Speaker 1: Well, you know, wait five minutes.
- 1:26:27Speaker 9: So you need people boots on the ground to tell
- 1:26:29Speaker 9: you what it's really going to be like.
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: Kevin in South Carolina, in regards to Christian in L.A.,
- 1:26:35Speaker 1: my Hyundai... Accent gets 50 miles per gallon. I work
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: full time and pass the savings on to me. It's
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: a chick magnet for practical women. Good luck with them.
- 1:26:47Speaker 10: L.A.
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: Gold diggers and their divorce attorneys. Give me the chicks
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: who dig coupons and make extra mortgage payments. Inherited wealth
- 1:26:56Speaker 1: made you soft. That was a clap back. That's a
- 1:27:00Speaker 1: good one.
- 1:27:02Speaker 2: I just don't like we're making fun of people for
- 1:27:04Speaker 2: their like.
- 1:27:05Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 1:27:06Speaker 2: Paul's car isn't... No, but, like, financially.
- 1:27:08Speaker 1: They're a lot in life. Right, right.
- 1:27:10Speaker 2: Yeah, like, financially, like.
- 1:27:11Speaker 1: Well, I love the.
- 1:27:12Speaker 2: So, Herm's no good because he has a.
- 1:27:14Speaker 9: Well, I love the, like, the saying where, like, the
- 1:27:16Speaker 9: person who owns their own Toyota versus, you know, you
- 1:27:19Speaker 9: might see him driving that street versus somebody who's got
- 1:27:21Speaker 9: $ 70, 000 loan on a Range Rover that, you know, they
- 1:27:25Speaker 9: can barely afford.
- 1:27:26Speaker 8: There's a great meme where it's, like, it's, like, billionaire
- 1:27:30Speaker 8: is the highest end of the scale and then the
- 1:27:32Speaker 8: lowest is, like, poverty.
- 1:27:33Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:27:34Speaker 7: And in the middle, it's, like, the middle class.
- 1:27:36Speaker 8: And then the upper luxury people that are buying, like,
- 1:27:39Speaker 8: Louis Vuitton or whatever. The baseline is, like, drives a Toyota,
- 1:27:43Speaker 8: shops at Costco and Walmart. And then the billionaire is
- 1:27:46Speaker 8: also drives a Toyota, shops at Costco and Walmart.
- 1:27:49Speaker 10: Right.
- 1:27:50Speaker 7: And then it's the people in the middle playing the
- 1:27:52Speaker 7: rat race.
- 1:27:53Speaker 9: I had, like, I drove, when I was in California,
- 1:27:55Speaker 9: I drove a Nissan Maxima for a while.
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: That was my second car. It was a good car.
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: I bought it used, but.
- 1:28:00Speaker 9: Um, you know, and I'm, my kids are going to
- 1:28:02Speaker 9: school with like Will Ferrell's kids. Cause my wife is
- 1:28:04Speaker 9: a teacher there and, and I'm, I'm pulling up and
- 1:28:07Speaker 9: I'm pulling up in my POS, my POS Maxima. And
- 1:28:11Speaker 9: one day I'm in front of the school and like,
- 1:28:13Speaker 9: I'm going to get out of the door and a
- 1:28:14Speaker 9: guy in like a Range Rover drove right. really railed
- 1:28:18Speaker 9: the whole side of my door now i was able
- 1:28:20Speaker 9: to kind of hold it in but the whole thing
- 1:28:22Speaker 9: kind of got bent back and it was like i
- 1:28:24Speaker 9: could still close the door but now it was like
- 1:28:26Speaker 9: i'm showing up at this school with like now a
- 1:28:28Speaker 9: huge did he pay for it no no it was
- 1:28:31Speaker 9: kind of my fault like i just kind of i
- 1:28:33Speaker 9: was on the street and i just kind of and
- 1:28:34Speaker 9: his car wasn't even really that damaged i don't even
- 1:28:36Speaker 9: know why my door got raked but my.
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: Door it was just it grill just plow through?
- 1:28:41Speaker 9: It took my used Nissan Maxima to a whole different
- 1:28:44Speaker 9: level of like, oh my God, I'm pulling up to
- 1:28:45Speaker 9: this school, and it's just Range Rover, Porsche.
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: Range Rover, and Deuce.
- 1:28:51Speaker 3: You can't even get out the door. You're like hopping
- 1:28:53Speaker 3: out the window like a NASCAR.
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: Like, hey, Will Ferrell, no problem. I'm just dropping my
- 1:28:57Speaker 1: kid off here.
- 1:28:59Speaker 7: Oh, God.
- 1:29:02Speaker 1: Kalem writes in. He's from Toronto. Very a serious qualm.
- 1:29:07Speaker 1: Alex using the term split the baby instead of TTN
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: thread the needle last week simply cannot be accepted. I
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: believe Evan brought the term split the baby to the table,
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: and I have to say it is even worse than
- 1:29:19Speaker 1: small C concern. Bring back TTN or in honor of
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: our leader FTN, thread the needle whenever his feel for
- 1:29:26Speaker 1: the league tells him that it's the right pick. Also,
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: Please get Evan's picks before Thursday so I can fade
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: them and pay for my next vacation. All right. That said,
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: it is time.
- 1:29:37Speaker 7: We got to hurry because I'm pulling an Evan today.
- 1:29:40Speaker 1: Oh, yeah?
- 1:29:40Speaker 7: About five minutes early. I guess that's not pulling an Evan.
- 1:29:43Speaker 7: He just misses the whole second half.
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: Okay. So we got to get to the picks.
- 1:29:48Speaker 2: All right, so it was a really good week last
- 1:29:50Speaker 2: week for everybody. It's nice to see you guys contributing.
- 1:29:54Speaker 1: Mike, 13-3. Congrats. You take the week. Big week for Mike.
- 1:29:58Speaker 2: Followed by Alex and Paul at 12-4. And Evan and
- 1:30:02Speaker 2: Fred at 11-5. So a really good week for everybody.
- 1:30:07Speaker 2: With the spread, Mike, 11-4-1. Wow, where'd that come from?
- 1:30:14Speaker 7: I might need a written statement.
- 1:30:16Speaker 6: Paul, 9-6-1.
- 1:30:18Speaker 2: Fred, 7, 8, and 1.
- 1:30:21Speaker 1: Not good. Alex, 6, 9, and 1. Nice. And Evan, 5, 10,
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: and 1.
- 1:30:27Speaker 9: He doesn't watch football.
- 1:30:28Speaker 2: I don't watch the games. So I did really like
- 1:30:32Speaker 2: that email because that's kind of what I feel. Like,
- 1:30:36Speaker 2: he tells us every week he doesn't watch the games.
- 1:30:39Speaker 3: But you go try to tell him anything about football
- 1:30:41Speaker 3: and not end up in a knock-down, drag-out argument about it.
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: He doesn't even watch the games. You're insulting him when
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: you tell him.
- 1:30:48Speaker 2: So the season standings are as follows.
- 1:30:52Speaker 3: Paul remains at top, 43-21, followed now by Alex and
- 1:30:56Speaker 3: Mike at 38-26, Fred at 36-28, and Evan, his solid 11-5,
- 1:30:58Speaker 3: got him back to 500.
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: Nice.
- 1:31:00Speaker 3: 32-32 overall. At least he's got that going for him.
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: With the spread, Paul, 36-27-1. We had a tie this week.
- 1:31:05Speaker 1: Let's see, who's second?
- 1:31:06Speaker 6: Mike, 30-33-1.
- 1:31:17Speaker 2: Fred, 28-35-1. Alex, 26-37-1.
- 1:31:23Speaker 3: And Evan, 22-41-1.
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: I don't mind not winning, but I don't like being
- 1:31:30Speaker 1: underwater against the spread.
- 1:31:33Speaker 2: I thought you were going to say, I just don't
- 1:31:35Speaker 2: like losing to Paul.
- 1:31:35Speaker 1: No, no.
- 1:31:36Speaker 5: Listen, Paul, it's in his DNA.
- 1:31:40Speaker 1: Not usually.
- 1:31:41Speaker 2: I don't usually do all that well.
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: What are you talking about? I'm off to a good start.
- 1:31:46Speaker 1: You're always up there. All right, we start today. Tonight.
- 1:31:51Speaker 6: Tonight.
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: Tampa Bay 0-4 going to Dallas, who are 2-2. Dallas
- 1:31:58Speaker 1: by 8.5. 8.5.
- 1:32:00Speaker 9: I really like that Dallas offense for sure.
- 1:32:04Speaker 2: It's still Jalen Daniels, right?
- 1:32:06Speaker 9: It is still Jalen Daniels.
- 1:32:08Speaker 3: Good guy.
- 1:32:08Speaker 1: Nice kid. I'm going to take Dallas to win.
- 1:32:10Speaker 6: And.
- 1:32:13Speaker 9: I'm just a little torn on the Thursday night, but
- 1:32:15Speaker 9: they're on the road. They got a backup quarterback. I'm
- 1:32:18Speaker 9: going to lay the points. It's a lot for a
- 1:32:20Speaker 9: Thursday night, but I'm going to do it.
- 1:32:22Speaker 7: Dallas, Dallas.
- 1:32:24Speaker 2: Mike is exactly right.
- 1:32:25Speaker 3: It's a lot of points for a Thursday night game,
- 1:32:28Speaker 3: but I am going to lay them.
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: Because of what he said, the backup quarterback.
- 1:32:32Speaker 5: Listen, I love Baker Mayfield.
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: I've said the league's better with him in it, but
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: I think he kind of bullied Tampa Bay into giving
- 1:32:41Speaker 1: him an extension. this year. I think they're regretting it.
- 1:32:46Speaker 1: They're 0-4 now. I think they wouldn't mind if they
- 1:32:50Speaker 1: don't win another game this year and they can get
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: back to the sweepstakes, eat that money, and move on.
- 1:32:57Speaker 5: I'm going to take Dallas both ways.
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: Alright, now we move to Sunday, but we also move
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: to London where Philadelphia 2-2 is playing the high-riding 3-1
- 1:33:10Speaker 1: Jacksonville Jaguars. This game is on ESPN.
- 1:33:15Speaker 2: It's not on the NFL Network?
- 1:33:17Speaker 5: Well, it says NFL Plus and ESPN. Ways to watch.
- 1:33:21Speaker 2: Oh, I guess that's the same now.
- 1:33:22Speaker 7: Same thing now, maybe. But they would still probably differentiate,
- 1:33:26Speaker 7: wouldn't they?
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: Yeah, you might be able to watch it there, too.
- 1:33:30Speaker 1: I don't know. But anyway, it says ESPN. So go
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: to ESPN. Everybody has ESPN.
- 1:33:33Speaker 7: Figure it out on your own time.
- 1:33:34Speaker 2: Jacksonville by seven.
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: Oh, boy. Now, that's a little bit disrespectful. Well, I mean, interesting.
- 1:33:40Speaker 7: What's the sequence?
- 1:33:41Speaker 8: Is there.
- 1:33:42Speaker 7: Is Saquon going to play?
- 1:33:44Speaker 1: Hamstring. Saquon's got a hamstring.
- 1:33:46Speaker 9: They just traded one of their offensive starting line. Lane
- 1:33:49Speaker 9: Johnson retired. Can I do a little quick rant? I
- 1:33:52Speaker 9: think the Jaguars are a really good team. They're off
- 1:33:54Speaker 9: to a good start. And I just think it stinks
- 1:33:56Speaker 9: they've now got to go to play a home game
- 1:33:57Speaker 9: in London. Can you allow a good team to stay
- 1:34:00Speaker 9: in their home stadium? And they would be playing something
- 1:34:02Speaker 9: like 26 of their next 30, do they?
- 1:34:03Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:34:05Speaker 2: Because they're not going to be able to play home
- 1:34:07Speaker 2: games next year. I guess they're going to be playing
- 1:34:11Speaker 2: in Orlando. Something like that.
- 1:34:13Speaker 1: It's kind of tough, man. It's just tough to climb
- 1:34:14Speaker 1: out of the basement when you're playing a lot of
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: your games internationally. But I'll take Jacksonville.
- 1:34:18Speaker 9: And that's a lot of points versus Philadelphia. But, man,
- 1:34:21Speaker 9: it's a big week for them. I'm going to lay
- 1:34:23Speaker 9: the seven.
- 1:34:25Speaker 7: I'm going to take Jacksonville. I'm going to take Philly
- 1:34:28Speaker 7: to cover.
- 1:34:30Speaker 1: It's a safe bet.
- 1:34:31Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm going to do the same thing. I can definitely.
- 1:34:35Speaker 2: see Philadelphia being in trouble with all those injuries, and
- 1:34:38Speaker 2: they're not playing well. The offense looks like a mess again,
- 1:34:40Speaker 2: and they're missing all the guys on offense. But I'm
- 1:34:44Speaker 2: going to take the points. I still believe in the Eagles' talent,
- 1:34:47Speaker 2: and that's a lot of points. Seven's a lot. So
- 1:34:50Speaker 2: I'll take Jacksonville to win the game.
- 1:34:52Speaker 1: But I'll Does it change when they're in?
- 1:34:54Speaker 2: I'll TTN on that one.
- 1:34:55Speaker 9: Is there a metric system there, Fred, in England? Do
- 1:34:57Speaker 9: they change the points? Does that affect the point spread? No.
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: This one's a little bit unprotected sex for me. I'm
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: going to go with Jacksonville both ways. It's not a
- 1:35:07Speaker 1: safe bet. It's risky.
- 1:35:08Speaker 5: You know?
- 1:35:09Speaker 1: Not safe. Half eagle, half jaguar child. I'm out there
- 1:35:13Speaker 1: with no protection.
- 1:35:15Speaker 2: That might very well be your best one.
- 1:35:17Speaker 3: It's a bit of an unprotected sex game, but.
- 1:35:21Speaker 1: It's a risky bet. Risky bet.
- 1:35:24Speaker 6: All right.
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: Now we move later in the day to 1 o'clock.
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: This is interesting. So Cincinnati is 2-2. They're playing the
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: 0-4 Dolphins. I always thought Hard Rock Stadium was in
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: something gardens. Miami Gardens. This is saying it's Opelika, Florida.
- 1:35:45Speaker 1: So I wonder if they've changed the name over there
- 1:35:48Speaker 1: in Florida.
- 1:35:48Speaker 2: Yeah, they always say Miami Gardens.
- 1:35:50Speaker 1: Sounds a little like a Native American. That is interesting, Fred.
- 1:35:53Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:35:53Speaker 1: There's a lot in there. This is on Fox.
- 1:35:56Speaker 2: Either way, Cincinnati is favored by six and a half.
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: Six and a half. All right. Well, it does seem
- 1:36:04Speaker 1: like some of the players for Miami are playing okay.
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: And I know... Cincinnati, Jamar Chase did not practice yesterday.
- 1:36:10Speaker 1: Tee Higgins is dealing with a hamstring. Both receivers are hurt.
- 1:36:12Speaker 7: They're both questionable.
- 1:36:13Speaker 2: I think it's an adductor for Tee Higgins and an
- 1:36:17Speaker 2: absolute cheap shot concussion on Jamar Chase.
- 1:36:20Speaker 9: I'm going to take Cincinnati to win, but Miami at home,
- 1:36:23Speaker 9: it's hot. I'm going to take the points. I think
- 1:36:25Speaker 9: they keep it a little close, but Joe Burrow pulls
- 1:36:27Speaker 9: it out for his boys.
- 1:36:31Speaker 7: One more time on the spread.
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: Six and a half.
- 1:36:34Speaker 7: Cincinnati, Cincinnati.
- 1:36:36Speaker 2: Three games in.
- 1:36:37Speaker 1: You say Joe Burrow pulls his boys out? Yeah, he
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: pulls it out without his boys. Is that back.
- 1:36:45Speaker 2: To that unprotected sex game?
- 1:36:48Speaker 1: No.
- 1:36:48Speaker 6: Okay.
- 1:36:49Speaker 2: I'm going to take Cincinnati both ways. I am with
- 1:36:52Speaker 2: Alex on this one.
- 1:36:54Speaker 1: Same here.
- 1:36:54Speaker 5: Cincinnati both ways. That's a safe bet.
- 1:36:58Speaker 1: All right. Now we go to Nolans, Minnesota, 4-0, meeting
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: the 1-3... Saints at the Caesars Superdome. And this game
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: can be seen on Fox.
- 1:37:14Speaker 2: This is a weird spread to me. Minnesota by one
- 1:37:18Speaker 2: and a half.
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: That's a weird spread.
- 1:37:22Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 1:37:23Speaker 1: They don't like that 4-0. It's a fraudulent 4-0. Well,
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: it kind of is. It is, right. But they got
- 1:37:28Speaker 1: a really good defense.
- 1:37:29Speaker 2: But the Saints are a legit 1-3. It's not like
- 1:37:32Speaker 2: they're a fraudulent 1-3.
- 1:37:32Speaker 1: You don't think they've played competitively?
- 1:37:34Speaker 2: They haven't played good teams.
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: The Saints?
- 1:37:36Speaker 2: And they're 1-3.
- 1:37:37Speaker 1: I know, but all right. Okay. Yeah, I'm going to
- 1:37:40Speaker 1: go mini-mini. Atlanta might be good.
- 1:37:43Speaker 7: Me too.
- 1:37:43Speaker 1: They might be good.
- 1:37:44Speaker 2: But they got blown out. It's not like they were
- 1:37:46Speaker 2: competitive with them.
- 1:37:46Speaker 13: Yeah.
- 1:37:49Speaker 1: I mean, they did beat Baltimore.
- 1:37:50Speaker 2: That's their one win. Minnie, Minnie, Alex?
- 1:37:53Speaker 3: Yes, please.
- 1:37:54Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm going to make it three. Three of us
- 1:37:56Speaker 2: would be Minnesota, Minnesota.
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: Yeah, I guess if the spread was more, I'd be
- 1:38:00Speaker 1: taking the points, but I'm going to go with Minnesota
- 1:38:03Speaker 1: both ways.
- 1:38:04Speaker 2: Yeah, I can see some Tyler Shuck turnovers with that pressure.
- 1:38:09Speaker 1: All right, Cleveland, 3-1, going to MetLife Stadium to play
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: the New Jersey Jets. The Jets are, of course, 1-3.
- 1:38:19Speaker 10: Mike.
- 1:38:20Speaker 5: And this is on CBS.
- 1:38:24Speaker 2: The Jets by one and a half.
- 1:38:27Speaker 9: Yeah, you're having a catch uh old friend of mine
- 1:38:28Speaker 9: joe caporoso has a podcast turn on the jets he's
- 1:38:31Speaker 9: a lifelong jets podcaster joe cap yeah him and uh
- 1:38:35Speaker 9: and i saw him and uh and hughes the kid
- 1:38:38Speaker 9: from pff they do the pub but they were like
- 1:38:39Speaker 9: two jets fans who were last week they were like
- 1:38:42Speaker 9: depressed they're like this felt like last year It felt
- 1:38:45Speaker 9: like hope had evaporated.
- 1:38:46Speaker 2: Did you see any of the numbers after that game?
- 1:38:48Speaker 2: They played at Chicago last week, Fred. I don't know
- 1:38:50Speaker 2: if you saw this, but Chicago had the ball for
- 1:38:51Speaker 2: like 44 minutes in the game.
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: They couldn't do nothing.
- 1:38:54Speaker 2: The Bears, I think, had like 34 first downs or
- 1:38:57Speaker 2: some crazy number.
- 1:38:59Speaker 1: They were shook. They were depressed.
- 1:39:00Speaker 9: I rely on people who have been through the Jets
- 1:39:03Speaker 9: rollercoaster and they're telling you again that it seems like
- 1:39:05Speaker 9: it's going south.
- 1:39:06Speaker 2: They finally got an interception, which broke their streak, but
- 1:39:09Speaker 2: they had three other interceptions overturned by penalty.
- 1:39:12Speaker 1: Wow. So all that What's the number here again?
- 1:39:16Speaker 2: Jets by one and a half.
- 1:39:17Speaker 9: I'm going to take the Cleveland football Browns with a
- 1:39:19Speaker 9: huff set.
- 1:39:20Speaker 13: Sorry, Paul.
- 1:39:20Speaker 7: Me too.
- 1:39:22Speaker 1: Wait a minute. Jets by one and a half? Yes. Explain.
- 1:39:26Speaker 1: Two bad teams.
- 1:39:27Speaker 2: I'm going to take the home team. I'll take the Jets.
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: I'm taking the Jets too. But one and a half.
- 1:39:35Speaker 1: I was surprised that the Jets were favored. I was
- 1:39:39Speaker 1: surprised the Jets were favored. Jets are favored by— you know what?
- 1:39:42Speaker 1: I'm going back on that. I'm taking the Browns. Yeah,
- 1:39:44Speaker 1: Cleveland's got some— I'm taking the Browns. Their defense is not—
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: I really expected there to be a spread where I
- 1:39:51Speaker 1: could take the Jets to cover. I can't do that.
- 1:39:53Speaker 2: I mean, obviously they're favored. This is kind of like
- 1:39:56Speaker 2: Christian in L.A. This is the first time that I
- 1:39:59Speaker 2: can remember being in lockstep with Fred about the picks. Like,
- 1:40:03Speaker 2: I fully intended on taking the Jets in this game
- 1:40:06Speaker 2: because I don't generally believe in bad teams when they're
- 1:40:09Speaker 2: quote-unquote supposed to win.
- 1:40:10Speaker 1: Mm-hmm.
- 1:40:11Speaker 2: And that's where Cleveland is right now. I think most
- 1:40:13Speaker 2: people in the NFL are like, three and one, they're.
- 1:40:15Speaker 1: Going to be four and one.
- 1:40:17Speaker 2: Don't pencil in wins for bad teams. And then I
- 1:40:19Speaker 2: see the spread, and I'm like, I'm not even getting
- 1:40:21Speaker 2: any points, but I think the Jets are better than Cleveland.
- 1:40:24Speaker 1: Okay. All right.
- 1:40:26Speaker 2: But they're probably the same.
- 1:40:28Speaker 1: Watson's playing pretty well.
- 1:40:30Speaker 2: Watson played well in that Thursday night game.
- 1:40:32Speaker 9: The Denzel Boston kid that I really liked last year,
- 1:40:35Speaker 9: not every tall receiver is Nikhil Harry. That's the lesson.
- 1:40:40Speaker 9: Remember last year when I liked him and we were
- 1:40:42Speaker 9: talking about him during the draft process?
- 1:40:44Speaker 1: Did Evan yell at you too?
- 1:40:46Speaker 9: No, Evan I think was a little on the fence
- 1:40:49Speaker 9: with him, but there are other people who see any
- 1:40:51Speaker 9: receiver who's that tall that, oh.
- 1:40:52Speaker 1: He's not going to be able to run, but he
- 1:40:53Speaker 1: can run.
- 1:40:54Speaker 5: All right.
- 1:40:55Speaker 1: Sunday at 1, the 2-2 Colts head to Accresure Stadium.
- 1:41:00Speaker 1: Where's that?
- 1:41:01Speaker 3: Accresure.
- 1:41:02Speaker 6: Accresure.
- 1:41:03Speaker 1: In Pittsburgh.
- 1:41:04Speaker 2: Pittsburgh by 2.5.
- 1:41:06Speaker 5: CBS.
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: CBS. Pittsburgh by 2.5.
- 1:41:09Speaker 9: That's a tough one for me. You know, what I've
- 1:41:13Speaker 9: kind of been doing this year is I kind of,
- 1:41:15Speaker 9: what team has the best player? And that tips the
- 1:41:17Speaker 9: scale for me. And I still think Jonathan Taylor. is
- 1:41:21Speaker 9: the best player here in this game. So I'm going
- 1:41:23Speaker 9: to take Indianapolis with the upset.
- 1:41:24Speaker 2: That's an NBA-like mentality. I'm going to go with the
- 1:41:28Speaker 2: best player.
- 1:41:29Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:41:30Speaker 7: I'm going to take the Colts as well.
- 1:41:34Speaker 2: I think the Colts are significantly better than Pittsburgh, but
- 1:41:37Speaker 2: I do not trust them. I don't think they've played well.
- 1:41:40Speaker 2: And Pittsburgh just finds a way to win these ugly
- 1:41:42Speaker 2: games at home, and they muck it up, and Daniel
- 1:41:44Speaker 2: Jones will probably turn it over. But I'm going to
- 1:41:46Speaker 2: lose the game anyway.
- 1:41:47Speaker 1: I'll take the Colts. Me too.
- 1:41:49Speaker 5: Colts.
- 1:41:51Speaker 1: All right, Sunday at 1. Boy.
- 1:41:55Speaker 2: Boy.
- 1:41:56Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:41:57Speaker 1: Something's got to give here. 0-4 Houston against 0-4 Tennessee. Tennessee, yeah,
- 1:42:04Speaker 1: cleaning house. See, that's a.
- 1:42:05Speaker 2: Yeah, upper management. Three executives. I'm sure that'll fix all
- 1:42:11Speaker 2: the problems. Houston by 7.5. That would be a tough
- 1:42:14Speaker 2: organization to.
- 1:42:15Speaker 1: Work for, man. Boy, imagine being an 0-4 team and
- 1:42:19Speaker 1: giving 7.5 points.
- 1:42:21Speaker 2: On the road.
- 1:42:21Speaker 1: On the road.
- 1:42:22Speaker 2: They're favored by 7.5 on the road.
- 1:42:24Speaker 1: That's nine. Holy crap.
- 1:42:26Speaker 9: Yeah, I'm definitely going to take Houston to win the game.
- 1:42:29Speaker 9: I'm tempted, though. I'm tempted to take the points at home.
- 1:42:32Speaker 9: But I'm not going to do it. I'm going to
- 1:42:33Speaker 9: take the Texans to beat them by more than 7.5.
- 1:42:36Speaker 7: Yeah, Houston-Houston. Feels like a good get-right game for them.
- 1:42:40Speaker 1: Now, remember, it's a division game.
- 1:42:41Speaker 5: Yeah, and.
- 1:42:45Speaker 2: I'm going to take Houston both ways.
- 1:42:48Speaker 7: This is kind of.
- 1:42:49Speaker 2: A last stand for the Texans. The defense has got
- 1:42:51Speaker 2: to get right. This is two weeks in a row
- 1:42:53Speaker 2: they took a lead in the last five minutes of
- 1:42:55Speaker 2: the game. Defense couldn't hold it the last two minutes
- 1:42:57Speaker 2: of the game. I just think they're better than 0-4,
- 1:43:02Speaker 2: and they've got to start to show it.
- 1:43:04Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm going to take Houston both ways. Eventually they're
- 1:43:08Speaker 1: going to have a game where they finish it and
- 1:43:11Speaker 1: play up to their potential. And I think Tennessee is
- 1:43:14Speaker 1: just awful. All right, Sunday at 1 still. It's the
- 1:43:18Speaker 1: Giants against the Commanders at Northwest Stadium. This is on Fox.
- 1:43:25Speaker 2: Washington by 3.5.
- 1:43:26Speaker 1: Giants are 3-1. They are. Commanders 1-3.
- 1:43:32Speaker 2: And the Washingtons are favored by 3.5.
- 1:43:35Speaker 9: Our esteemed producer, Don Maxson, very excited about the New
- 1:43:38Speaker 9: York football Giants. Shoot, it's still hard for me to
- 1:43:41Speaker 9: pick Jameis Winston. It looks like Jaden Daniels is going
- 1:43:44Speaker 9: to be back.
- 1:43:44Speaker 1: I don't know if Diggs is going to play, though.
- 1:43:49Speaker 1: Washington has won the past four of these games. I'm
- 1:43:51Speaker 1: going to go with Washington. I think Delec's got to run.
- 1:43:54Speaker 10: Out a little bit.
- 1:43:54Speaker 2: He doesn't do better with the amount of research he does.
- 1:43:56Speaker 1: I don't know. I just printed a thing. That's all.
- 1:43:58Speaker 1: What was the start? What was the spread, Paul?
- 1:43:59Speaker 2: Washington by three and a half.
- 1:44:00Speaker 1: Three and a half. Okay. I'll take that. And I'm
- 1:44:04Speaker 1: going to split the baby, though. I'm taking the points
- 1:44:06Speaker 1: for the G-men for a close one. Thread the needle.
- 1:44:09Speaker 1: Thread the needle.
- 1:44:09Speaker 6: Sorry.
- 1:44:11Speaker 7: I'll take Washington both ways.
- 1:44:12Speaker 13: Awesome.
- 1:44:15Speaker 2: I'm with Mike on this one. I'm going to take
- 1:44:16Speaker 2: Washington to win the game, but I will take the hook.
- 1:44:21Speaker 1: I'm feeling a rumble in the jungle. It's an intestinal
- 1:44:25Speaker 1: fortitude game. I'm going with my gut. Giants win the game.
- 1:44:29Speaker 2: It's not as good as the unprotected sense game.
- 1:44:36Speaker 1: It's a gut game. They can't all be gold. All right,
- 1:44:40Speaker 1: Sunday at 1, Chicago 3-1 at Green Bay 2-2. Chicago
- 1:44:48Speaker 1: by 1.5 at Lambeau. I've kind of done a 180
- 1:44:53Speaker 1: on the Packers.
- 1:44:53Speaker 9: I feel like the last couple years, ever since I
- 1:44:55Speaker 9: saw them in preseason, I was kind of impressed with them.
- 1:44:58Speaker 9: I liked the receivers they were drafting, and I thought
- 1:45:01Speaker 9: Joden Love was up and down, but I was given
- 1:45:02Speaker 9: the benefit of the doubt.
- 1:45:03Speaker 1: And now I feel like I've kind of turned on them.
- 1:45:06Speaker 9: Even though it's a division contest with a backup quarterback,
- 1:45:08Speaker 9: with Bajan back, I think Ben Johnson is cooking.
- 1:45:12Speaker 1: Chicago's won two of the past three. I'm going to
- 1:45:14Speaker 1: take the Chicago Bears. I'll lay the points.
- 1:45:20Speaker 7: I'll take Chicago to win Green Bay to cover.
- 1:45:25Speaker 2: One point game, huh?
- 1:45:26Speaker 1: Oh, it is. No. One and a half.
- 1:45:28Speaker 7: My sheet says two and a half.
- 1:45:30Speaker 1: One and a half.
- 1:45:31Speaker 2: Scratch that.
- 1:45:32Speaker 1: It could be a one-point game. I just wanted to
- 1:45:35Speaker 1: make sure. That would be a TTN.
- 1:45:36Speaker 5: That would be a TTN.
- 1:45:37Speaker 1: That would be.
- 1:45:38Speaker 2: A legendary pick.
- 1:45:42Speaker 7: I hate this one. Chicago, Chicago.
- 1:45:44Speaker 2: I am going to take Green Bay at home.
- 1:45:50Speaker 1: You hate them.
- 1:45:51Speaker 2: I do hate the Packers.
- 1:45:53Speaker 1: You're right.
- 1:45:53Speaker 2: A lot of things you put words in my mouth
- 1:45:56Speaker 2: a lot, Mike, but those were accurate ones. I don't
- 1:45:59Speaker 2: like the Packers, but I think that the Bears, at
- 1:46:04Speaker 2: some point, the backup quarterback has got.
- 1:46:09Speaker 1: To have an impact.
- 1:46:09Speaker 2: I think it's going to be a little bit tougher
- 1:46:11Speaker 2: for Ben Johnson to be crowing this week.
- 1:46:13Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 1:46:15Speaker 2: You the same way?
- 1:46:16Speaker 1: No. I'm going with Chicago, but I hear what you're saying.
- 1:46:19Speaker 1: I hear what you're saying.
- 1:46:21Speaker 5: All right.
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: Yeah. That's a tough one. Cause eventually I like Ben
- 1:46:25Speaker 1: Johnson down to earth.
- 1:46:26Speaker 2: I like Ben Johnson. I think he's a good coach.
- 1:46:28Speaker 2: I think sometimes he has his mind and his priorities
- 1:46:31Speaker 2: on things that just aren't important. Like all the talk
- 1:46:33Speaker 2: that he had about setting the record before the season started.
- 1:46:36Speaker 2: I just don't think that that's worth any energy. Um,
- 1:46:40Speaker 2: You know, kind of toying with the media last week
- 1:46:42Speaker 2: and starting Case Keenum because somebody reported that Bajent was
- 1:46:46Speaker 2: going to be starting before he announced it, you know,
- 1:46:48Speaker 2: for a play. Like, again, wasted time and energy that
- 1:46:51Speaker 2: doesn't help anybody.
- 1:46:52Speaker 6: Right.
- 1:46:53Speaker 2: And then immediately after the game, he's already said, we
- 1:46:55Speaker 2: know who we're playing next week because they hate the
- 1:46:56Speaker 2: Packers so much. And, again, just get your team ready
- 1:47:00Speaker 2: to go.
- 1:47:01Speaker 1: Yep.
- 1:47:01Speaker 3: Okay.
- 1:47:02Speaker 5: No, fair enough.
- 1:47:03Speaker 1: I'm playing a hunch.
- 1:47:04Speaker 6: Fair enough.
- 1:47:04Speaker 2: I think Chicago's better than Green Bay.
- 1:47:06Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:47:06Speaker 2: There's a reason why they're favored on the road with
- 1:47:08Speaker 2: a backup quarterback. People think the Bears are better than
- 1:47:10Speaker 2: the Packers.
- 1:47:10Speaker 1: I'm going to go with the Bears. All right. Now
- 1:47:13Speaker 1: we skip over the Patriots at 1 o'clock, and we
- 1:47:16Speaker 1: move to 4.05. Denver on the road, but are they
- 1:47:22Speaker 1: truly on the road? Because they're playing the Chargers, and
- 1:47:25Speaker 1: as we know, that stadium's going to be full of
- 1:47:28Speaker 1: Denver fans. So the league said, listen, we'll Just play
- 1:47:31Speaker 1: in LA. It'll be fine. Put your white jerseys on.
- 1:47:34Speaker 1: It'll be fine. It's going to be all your fans.
- 1:47:36Speaker 1: Don't worry about it. And so Denver said, okay. So
- 1:47:41Speaker 1: Denver's 2-2. We know the Chargers are 0-4. And what
- 1:47:46Speaker 1: is the spread, Paul?
- 1:47:47Speaker 2: Denver by 3.5.
- 1:47:48Speaker 1: Oh, man.
- 1:47:51Speaker 9: I'm just tempted to think that the Chargers are going
- 1:47:55Speaker 9: to at least keep it close. I'm going to take
- 1:47:56Speaker 9: Denver to win and Yeah, I'm going to take the hook.
- 1:48:00Speaker 9: I'm going to take the Chargers. They keep it close.
- 1:48:03Speaker 2: The Chargers defense has played a little bit better the
- 1:48:05Speaker 2: last couple of weeks.
- 1:48:06Speaker 3: They're out both tackles.
- 1:48:07Speaker 9: I know it's probably not a great pick, but I
- 1:48:09Speaker 9: don't know. I think at some point, Justin Herbert's going
- 1:48:11Speaker 9: to have a game.
- 1:48:12Speaker 2: And Denver's offense has not looked good really all year.
- 1:48:15Speaker 9: Weirdly, especially early on in games, it feels like then
- 1:48:18Speaker 9: all of a sudden they make some plays.
- 1:48:20Speaker 1: At the end. Is that because of Bo Nix, or
- 1:48:21Speaker 1: what are we talking about here?
- 1:48:23Speaker 2: Well, I think this is going to be the last
- 1:48:24Speaker 2: week that, is it Davis Webb?
- 1:48:26Speaker 11: Yeah, yeah.
- 1:48:27Speaker 1: Is that the play caller?
- 1:48:28Speaker 10: Yeah.
- 1:48:29Speaker 2: I think this might be his last week. I think
- 1:48:30Speaker 2: Sean Payton will be resting the play calling duties back
- 1:48:33Speaker 2: if things don't improve.
- 1:48:34Speaker 9: And I think Houston, I think Ryan's took that play calling, too.
- 1:48:37Speaker 1: I saw that. Saw that.
- 1:48:40Speaker 7: I'm going to do the same thing as Deuce.
- 1:48:44Speaker 3: Yeah, I see where you guys are going with that.
- 1:48:47Speaker 2: I'm going to lay the points anyway. I'm going to
- 1:48:49Speaker 2: take Denver to win, only because Denver just has not
- 1:48:52Speaker 2: played well. So it's not like they're looking at the Chargers, oh,
- 1:48:55Speaker 2: it's a get-right game, 0-4. No, they need to start
- 1:48:57Speaker 2: playing well, and I think they will.
- 1:49:00Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm going to go with Denver as well, both ways.
- 1:49:02Speaker 7: Chargers.
- 1:49:04Speaker 1: Chargers. Could be 0-5 after this week. That's something.
- 1:49:07Speaker 2: I'm telling you, 0-9 is very much on the table
- 1:49:10Speaker 2: for the Chargers.
- 1:49:12Speaker 1: All right, 425. It's Detroit 2-2 at the Cardinals 1-3.
- 1:49:17Speaker 2: Detroit by 5.5.
- 1:49:18Speaker 1: Oh, boy. Arizona.
- 1:49:26Speaker 9: I can't believe Jacoby Brissett is still their starting quarterback.
- 1:49:29Speaker 1: Drake's buddy, too. They said he's still there.
- 1:49:31Speaker 7: They keep in touch. Still talking.
- 1:49:32Speaker 1: Their buddy's still.
- 1:49:34Speaker 9: I'm going to take Detroit to win, but I'm a
- 1:49:38Speaker 9: little tempted here. I'm going to just lay the points.
- 1:49:40Speaker 9: I'm not going to get crazy.
- 1:49:42Speaker 7: Detroit, Detroit.
- 1:49:44Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm going to get crazy, I guess, because I'm
- 1:49:46Speaker 2: going to take Detroit to win. I believe in the offense.
- 1:49:49Speaker 2: I don't believe in the defense, and five and a
- 1:49:51Speaker 2: half is too much on the road for a defense
- 1:49:53Speaker 2: that can't stop anybody.
- 1:49:54Speaker 1: Jacoby Brissett? Anybody. They can't stop anybody. Now, I'm going
- 1:49:59Speaker 1: to go with Detroit both ways.
- 1:50:02Speaker 2: I hope you're right, because I kind of like the line.
- 1:50:04Speaker 2: and I'd like to see them, you know, show some signs.
- 1:50:06Speaker 1: I mean, they have had trouble with their defense, but.
- 1:50:10Speaker 9: You'll remember this, Paul, but I forget what playoff year
- 1:50:12Speaker 9: they lost a couple years ago where it felt like, man,
- 1:50:15Speaker 9: this team is clicking. They just got, you know, right
- 1:50:17Speaker 9: before Ben Johnson, you know, left. And you just realize, like,
- 1:50:21Speaker 9: your window... You talk about window closing. Like, that moment, like,
- 1:50:23Speaker 9: they were on top of the world and now it
- 1:50:25Speaker 9: just feels like It's been a slow decline, and they
- 1:50:28Speaker 9: have some talent to fight it off.
- 1:50:30Speaker 2: Everybody's like, oh, those guys will be healthy next year.
- 1:50:33Speaker 1: But you never know. You never know.
- 1:50:35Speaker 13: All right.
- 1:50:36Speaker 5: Sunday, 425.
- 1:50:37Speaker 1: It's the undefeated 49ers at 4-0 going to the Super
- 1:50:42Speaker 1: Bowl champ Seattle Seahawks, 3-1. Good game.
- 1:50:46Speaker 2: Good red zone focus.
- 1:50:49Speaker 1: Mike, Seattle by three. See my notes here. The away
- 1:50:52Speaker 1: team has won the past four.
- 1:50:54Speaker 9: That's kind of interesting.
- 1:50:56Speaker 1: I think. Seattle by three. Seattle by three. That's a
- 1:51:02Speaker 1: really good game. I'm a little torn on how I feel.
- 1:51:04Speaker 1: You know what I'm going to do? I'm going to
- 1:51:06Speaker 1: go with Seattle at home. And I'm going to lay
- 1:51:09Speaker 1: the points.
- 1:51:09Speaker 9: I say they knock off Brock Purdy and they get
- 1:51:11Speaker 9: it going.
- 1:51:13Speaker 7: I got to go next door. Niners.
- 1:51:15Speaker 1: Niners. Niners. On the road. We're losing Alex.
- 1:51:19Speaker 2: I will take Seattle both ways.
- 1:51:23Speaker 1: Me too. I'm going with Seattle as well. Okay. Now,
- 1:51:27Speaker 1: Sunday night at 420, this could actually be a sneaky
- 1:51:31Speaker 1: good game. It's the Baltimore Ravens against the Atlanta Falcons.
- 1:51:39Speaker 1: The game is on NBC or Peacock.
- 1:51:43Speaker 13: And?
- 1:51:44Speaker 1: Universo. But it doesn't say that. It doesn't say Universo?
- 1:51:47Speaker 1: What happened to Universo?
- 1:51:48Speaker 2: I was called out earlier in the week for not
- 1:51:51Speaker 2: saying that.
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: But it doesn't say Universo.
- 1:51:53Speaker 2: Maybe it's not on Universo anymore. Um, Atlanta by three
- 1:51:57Speaker 2: and a half, which tells me that Vegas does not
- 1:52:00Speaker 2: expect Lamar Jackson.
- 1:52:01Speaker 1: Marvelous. Snoop. Snoop's back again.
- 1:52:04Speaker 9: Uh, no, I love me some Derrick Henry, but, uh,
- 1:52:08Speaker 9: but man, B. John Robinson is just on another level
- 1:52:10Speaker 9: right now. I'm going to, I'm going to take Atlanta
- 1:52:12Speaker 9: at home. Um, and I'm going to lay the points
- 1:52:14Speaker 9: or sorry, take the points.
- 1:52:16Speaker 2: No, you're laying the points.
- 1:52:18Speaker 1: Oh, it's Atlanta by three. Atlanta by three.
- 1:52:19Speaker 3: Oh, sorry.
- 1:52:20Speaker 6: It's good. Okay. Gotcha.
- 1:52:23Speaker 2: So Alex isn't here. I'm going to take Baltimore to
- 1:52:27Speaker 2: win outright.
- 1:52:30Speaker 1: I'm surprised.
- 1:52:31Speaker 2: Short week with Atlanta has me a little concerned. Team
- 1:52:34Speaker 2: that's not quite established. Baltimore, if Lamar Jackson does not
- 1:52:38Speaker 2: play in this game, that's going to be tough because
- 1:52:41Speaker 2: their defense has not been great.
- 1:52:44Speaker 1: The Ravens' defense.
- 1:52:45Speaker 2: So I could definitely see Mike being right, but I'll
- 1:52:48Speaker 2: roll the dice with Baltimore.
- 1:52:50Speaker 1: Let's see. I'm looking at the... Injury report. Oh, yeah.
- 1:52:54Speaker 5: He did not participate yesterday, so Jackson.
- 1:52:57Speaker 1: Right. Okay. I'm going to go with Atlanta to win
- 1:53:01Speaker 1: the game. I do like B. John Robinson. Do you
- 1:53:05Speaker 1: see that touchdown run? Is he good? He's special. It
- 1:53:07Speaker 1: looks like he was out for a jog.
- 1:53:08Speaker 5: He's special.
- 1:53:09Speaker 1: He's going up the sideline like... You see these guys like.
- 1:53:13Speaker 2: I saw Burt Breer on Twitter like five seconds after
- 1:53:17Speaker 2: that touchdown. I guess him and his son were watching
- 1:53:19Speaker 2: the game, and I think his son's like 10 years old,
- 1:53:21Speaker 2: and he goes.
- 1:53:22Speaker 2: And he just put the kid's name in.
- 1:53:24Speaker 3: Colon, quote.
- 1:53:25Speaker 1: He just made that look so easy. Yeah. And it
- 1:53:28Speaker 1: was like, that's exactly right. He does. Like, out for
- 1:53:30Speaker 1: a stroll.
- 1:53:31Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:53:31Speaker 9: I mean, him and Drake and Drake London, man, they
- 1:53:34Speaker 9: got two really, really good players there.
- 1:53:35Speaker 1: All right, Monday night, 8-15 on ESPN. It's the Buffalo
- 1:53:40Speaker 1: Bills 3-1 against your Rams, Paul, at 2-2.
- 1:53:44Speaker 2: Yeah, good Monday night game.
- 1:53:45Speaker 1: Great game. The Rams by three. Rams by three.
- 1:53:49Speaker 2: Good Monday night game. Unfortunately, because it's on Monday night,
- 1:53:51Speaker 2: I probably won't see much of.
- 1:53:54Speaker 5: Rams by three at home.
- 1:53:56Speaker 9: This feels appointment television for me. Sometimes I do watch
- 1:53:59Speaker 9: the NFL, the rest of the NFL. I try to
- 1:54:01Speaker 9: just get a sense.
- 1:54:02Speaker 1: Of other teams.
- 1:54:03Speaker 2: Try to be the anti-Evan and naturally do your job.
- 1:54:05Speaker 1: I don't know how you just don't watch anything but
- 1:54:07Speaker 1: the Patriots. Sorry, Bills. I'm going to go with the Rams.
- 1:54:11Speaker 1: The Rams at home. Puka back. I think they're... they're
- 1:54:15Speaker 1: starting to play better.
- 1:54:16Speaker 9: And man, I love that Kyron Williams too, man. He's,
- 1:54:19Speaker 9: and again, like I saw some rankings of the offensive
- 1:54:21Speaker 9: line where I, I think I said the first week,
- 1:54:22Speaker 9: it was just like such a striking difference of like
- 1:54:25Speaker 9: how great these backs are.
- 1:54:26Speaker 1: But I'm like, they're not touched for five yards. Like
- 1:54:27Speaker 1: the Rams offensive line is just like pushing everybody back.
- 1:54:31Speaker 1: I think they're going to do the same to the bills.
- 1:54:33Speaker 1: Take the Rams, lay the points.
- 1:54:34Speaker 2: Yeah. I, I need to see something from the bills
- 1:54:39Speaker 2: to show me that what Sean McDermott did It's going
- 1:54:42Speaker 2: to continue to happen. And I didn't see it last week,
- 1:54:45Speaker 2: so I'm not going to pretend that I saw it.
- 1:54:47Speaker 2: I'm going to take the Rams. Until I see otherwise,
- 1:54:50Speaker 2: the Bills are not as well coached as they were
- 1:54:52Speaker 2: last year.
- 1:54:53Speaker 1: I don't have as much faith in the Rams as
- 1:54:55Speaker 1: Paul does. However, I'm always up for another Bills loss. And,
- 1:55:01Speaker 1: of course, we're in a race now as a result
- 1:55:04Speaker 1: of last week. So this is a wish game, and
- 1:55:08Speaker 1: I'm picking for the team that I wish to win.
- 1:55:12Speaker 1: And so I'm going to pick the Rams, even though
- 1:55:15Speaker 1: I think the Rams are beatable.
- 1:55:18Speaker 6: Oh, absolutely.
- 1:55:20Speaker 2: The Rams were very lucky to win last week. But
- 1:55:25Speaker 2: they're working through some stuff with their injuries, too. But
- 1:55:29Speaker 2: the Bills, I'm a big believer in your structure. And
- 1:55:34Speaker 2: I'm just telling you, I said it in the summer,
- 1:55:36Speaker 2: I get these massive Pete Carroll vibes from what's going
- 1:55:40Speaker 2: on in Buffalo.
- 1:55:40Speaker 1: Everybody's happy. Everybody's happy.
- 1:55:43Speaker 2: I don't want my football team being happy all the time.
- 1:55:46Speaker 2: I want my football team to have an edge. And
- 1:55:49Speaker 2: I think it's incumbent on the head coach to establish
- 1:55:52Speaker 2: that edge. That's what Mike Vrabel does. I think that's
- 1:55:55Speaker 2: the best thing that he does. He establishes that culture.
- 1:55:59Speaker 2: And again, I'm not telling you Joe Brady can't do it.
- 1:56:02Speaker 2: He's been a coach for four weeks. But I need
- 1:56:04Speaker 2: to see it before I'm going to just assume it's
- 1:56:06Speaker 2: going to happen. And I didn't see it last week.
- 1:56:09Speaker 2: We'll see how they respond on the road, across the country.
- 1:56:12Speaker 1: Okay. Got to hurry. Our last game, we move back
- 1:56:15Speaker 1: to 1 o'clock. The Raiders come to Gillette 3-1 against
- 1:56:20Speaker 1: the 2-2 New England Patriots. Patriots by 3.5. Is that
- 1:56:25Speaker 1: disrespectful to the Raiders?
- 1:56:26Speaker 6: 3-1?
- 1:56:28Speaker 2: Underdogs to a 2-2 team?
- 1:56:30Speaker 6: A little bit.
- 1:56:31Speaker 1: No, I think not. I think it is. It is not.
- 1:56:35Speaker 1: I think it is.
- 1:56:36Speaker 3: It's disrespectful to anybody. It's disrespectful to the Patriots.
- 1:56:39Speaker 5: See, Paul's setting it up. So if the Patriots play bad.
- 1:56:44Speaker 5: Or they lose.
- 1:56:45Speaker 1: It'll be too much.
- 1:56:46Speaker 2: I will make a promise to you right now. If
- 1:56:49Speaker 2: the Raiders come in here and beat the Patriots and
- 1:56:51Speaker 2: play really well, it's not like because Drake may turn
- 1:56:54Speaker 2: it over four times, but they just go toe-to-toe and
- 1:56:56Speaker 2: they're the better team, I will be the first one
- 1:56:58Speaker 2: to tell you. You'll come down to the postgame show
- 1:57:00Speaker 2: and I'll say, Fred, you were right, I was wrong.
- 1:57:02Speaker 2: I promise you I will do that.
- 1:57:04Speaker 1: I think the Raiders are going to come in here
- 1:57:06Speaker 1: and play spunky. I talked with Evan. I'm just interested
- 1:57:10Speaker 1: to see what they.
- 1:57:11Speaker 9: what Kubiak takes from the Super Bowl and tries to reproduce,
- 1:57:13Speaker 9: especially with the running game, tacking the edges. And if
- 1:57:17Speaker 9: they can get that going, I mean, Mike Washington hasn't
- 1:57:18Speaker 9: done much, but I think he's an explosive kind of guy.
- 1:57:21Speaker 9: And if the Patriots' run fits aren't up to point,
- 1:57:23Speaker 9: he could bust one off. But I still think New
- 1:57:26Speaker 9: England's going to hold on and pull it out at
- 1:57:28Speaker 9: the end, but I think it will be close.
- 1:57:29Speaker 1: I'm going to say New England 23-17. Yes, it's me. Yeah,
- 1:57:37Speaker 1: I obviously like the Patriots to win and cover.
- 1:57:40Speaker 2: And I agree with Mike. I don't think the Raiders
- 1:57:43Speaker 2: will come in here and just roll over for them.
- 1:57:45Speaker 2: I think that they are improved. And we talked about how,
- 1:57:49Speaker 2: I think the way Evan put it, they've raised their
- 1:57:51Speaker 2: floor with guys like Quay Walker and N'Kobe Dean. I
- 1:57:56Speaker 2: think Jeremy Chin's a good, solid veteran safety on the
- 1:57:59Speaker 2: back end. You know, Max Crosby, Malcolm. They have some players.
- 1:58:03Speaker 2: And I don't think that this will be... This isn't
- 1:58:06Speaker 2: like Cleveland, Tennessee, New Orleans last year.
- 1:58:09Speaker 1: This is a.
- 1:58:10Speaker 2: better team than those teams from last year. I just
- 1:58:12Speaker 2: don't think they're better enough to come across the country
- 1:58:16Speaker 2: and beat the Patriots when the Patriots are coming off
- 1:58:18Speaker 2: their best win. Be focused, protect the football, 27-20 Patriots.
- 1:58:24Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, it's tough to win in the NFL.
- 1:58:26Speaker 1: It really is. It's tough to win. I'm making my
- 1:58:30Speaker 1: pick with the assumption that Davis and Gonzo are playing. Okay.
- 1:58:35Speaker 1: So 31-10 Patriots. Boom.
- 1:58:39Speaker 2: I can absolutely see a scenario.
- 1:58:41Speaker 5: 31-10.
- 1:58:42Speaker 1: They just lay the lumber because I do have a
- 1:58:45Speaker 1: dog in the fight. We'll see you next Tuesday. Hey,
- 1:58:53Speaker 1: this is Deuce. Thanks for tuning into the show.
- 1:58:55Speaker 9: If you really want to help us, make sure you
- 1:58:57Speaker 9: like us wherever you get your podcasts, like Apple Podcasts
- 1:58:59Speaker 9: or Spotify. Also, make sure you follow us on the
- 1:59:01Speaker 9: New England Patriots YouTube channel to see this show and
- 1:59:04Speaker 9: everything else that we do here at the Patriots.
- 1:59:05Speaker 1: Thanks a lot.
