- 0:11Hello friends, it's Sean here and it is Friday the 21st of
- 0:17March. Well done, you have made it to
- 0:20the end of another week. Ah, that is such good news.
- 0:23And today we don't just get to read any old chapter, we get to
- 0:27read some proverbs. We get to hear the wisdom of the
- 0:31everlasting God speaking directly into today.
- 0:36Don't know about you, but man, these proverbs, they are so
- 0:39chock a block full of goodness that it is really hard when we
- 0:43just whizz through them. And even though I try to read
- 0:46them slowly, there's so much in them and they're gone before we
- 0:49even start, it feels like. And I was chatting with one of
- 0:52my sons and he said, Dad, you've got to read them twice.
- 0:56So how about I'm going to try that today, friends.
- 0:58I am going to read the six proverbs through twice.
- 1:03And I'm going to leave a little questionnaire, a little quiz,
- 1:06not quiz survey, whatever you want to call it in the show
- 1:09notes. If you're listening in Spotify,
- 1:11you can go in and you could just say, yeah, no, this is good.
- 1:14Read it twice or no, no, no, once is enough.
- 1:16You can let me know what you think and I will.
- 1:19I will respond to popular consensus.
- 1:21And that will be what we do from here on in.
- 1:24But today we're going to read them twice because, would you
- 1:27believe it, they are 6 bangers. So all that said, let's dive
- 1:32straight in, shall we friends? Let's read together Proverbs 11
- 1:37verses 7:00 to 12:00. When the wicked die, their hopes
- 1:50die with them, for they rely on their own feeble strength.
- 1:57The godly are rescued from trouble, and it falls on the
- 2:01wicked instead. With their words.
- 2:06The godless destroy their friends, but knowledge will
- 2:10rescue the righteous. The whole city celebrates when
- 2:15the godly succeed. They shout for joy when the
- 2:19wicked die. Upright citizens are good for a
- 2:24city and make it prosper. But the talk of the wicked tears
- 2:29it apart. It is foolish to belittle 1's
- 2:34neighbour. A sensible person keeps quiet.
- 2:41And again, reading verses 7:00 to 12:00, When the wicked die,
- 2:47their hopes die with them, for they rely on their own feeble
- 2:51strength. The godly are rescued from
- 2:56trouble, and it falls on the wicked instead.
- 3:01With their words, the godless destroy their friends, but
- 3:05knowledge will rescue the righteous.
- 3:10The whole city celebrates when the godly succeed.
- 3:13They shout for joy when the wicked die.
- 3:18Upright citizens are good for a city and make it prosper, But
- 3:23the talk of the wicked tears it apart.
- 3:28It is foolish to be little one's neighbour.
- 3:31A sensible person keeps quiet. Lord, thank you for your wisdom.
- 3:48You are not a God in an ivory tower who speaks in languages
- 3:51that we don't even get, but you speak right to us in a way that
- 3:56we understand. And all the wisdom here just
- 3:59speaks into our lives. And Lord, you speak of upright
- 4:04citizens being so good for the communities in which they live,
- 4:09but that the talk of the wicked tears it apart.
- 4:13Oh, we have indeed seen that in our lives and in our
- 4:16communities. Lord, I pray that you would
- 4:19shape us to be the sorts of citizens, the sorts of people,
- 4:24the sorts of community members that would be good for our
- 4:27communities. And that through our diligence,
- 4:31our care, and us bringing in Your Kingdom, upholding those
- 4:37without a voice, speaking with kindness and patience, and
- 4:41putting the needs of others before our own.
- 4:44That as we do this as grapes around us would prosper and that
- 4:50we would not be those who speak wickedly to tear our communities
- 4:56apart. But Lord, as those people do
- 5:00that as the evil one has his way and breaks our communities down.
- 5:05Lord, may it be the the kind presence of your people that
- 5:10continues to hold them together. Because we want people to be
- 5:16whole. You want your children to be
- 5:18whole. And so we just continue to offer
- 5:22ourselves to you as your instruments of wholeness in our
- 5:26world as we live day to day, but particularly today.
- 5:30Give us your way, your will, your heart, and your words as we
- 5:34go about being a part of the communities in which we are.
- 5:38We love you and we want to be your people, representing you
- 5:42and your ways. We pray this all in your name,
- 5:45Jesus, Amen.
