- 0:00Speaker 1: All start Toyota presents Off the Bench with Jacob Hester
- 0:03Speaker 1: and Matt Flynn.
- 0:04Speaker 2: Okay, here we go.
- 0:06Speaker 1: Well the plays get broken down and science gets denied.
- 0:09Speaker 3: I got to come off the bench.
- 0:10Speaker 1: Hour two of Off the Bench Live from the Mercedes
- 0:13Speaker 1: Bend so Baton Rouge Studio starts now.
- 0:24Speaker 4: All right, welcome back in hour number two. Here on
- 0:26Speaker 4: a Monday edition Off Off the Bench, Taylor Sharps sitting
- 0:30Speaker 4: in the host chair for Jacob Hester and Matt Flynn.
- 0:33Speaker 4: Both of them will be back tomorrow. I got a
- 0:36Speaker 4: text from MOSCOWO on Saturday saying, hey, can you host
- 0:39Speaker 4: now TV on Monday?
- 0:40Speaker 5: Jake's out. I was like okay. I was like, well,
- 0:44Speaker 5: I was like, I'm good to do it.
- 0:45Speaker 4: What about Matt. He's like, Matt's at the beach, apparently
- 0:47Speaker 4: laundering you that. I didn't know that, but I'm like, hey, man,
- 0:49Speaker 4: shout out, take a beach trip after as he's the
- 0:51Speaker 4: media days. I'm all about it. More power to them.
- 0:54Speaker 4: But they are apparently both back tomorrow. Jake had he
- 0:57Speaker 4: told us he had something to do with the NFL
- 0:58Speaker 4: flag football thing that's going on right now. I think
- 1:01Speaker 4: he's actually probably there right now because he said it
- 1:03Speaker 4: doesn't start till about nine thirty, so he's probably there
- 1:07Speaker 4: as we speak. Okay, look, we were we were sec
- 1:10Speaker 4: football heavy in hour number one. Then we close out
- 1:13Speaker 4: the hour wrapping up at UFC three eighteen, which was
- 1:15Speaker 4: just an electric event out there in New Orleans this weekend.
- 1:19Speaker 4: Coming up this hour Schamarsh Stewart for the Cincinnati Bengals.
- 1:25Speaker 4: Like normally we wouldn't talk a lot of Bengals on
- 1:27Speaker 4: the show, but you do have Joe Burrow, you have
- 1:29Speaker 4: Jamar Chase.
- 1:30Speaker 5: It's somewhat LSU related.
- 1:32Speaker 4: He did not report to camp on Saturday with the
- 1:34Speaker 4: rest of the rookies and he has he is still unsigned,
- 1:37Speaker 4: and neither side seems to be budging one bit. We'll
- 1:40Speaker 4: talk about that a little bit coming up of Ross
- 1:42Speaker 4: Jackson's going to join us at eight thirty preview some
- 1:45Speaker 4: Saints training camp.
- 1:47Speaker 5: We had Nick on Friday.
- 1:48Speaker 4: We wanted to have Ross today, get a little bit
- 1:49Speaker 4: different perspective, and then hour number three, Devin Snow's gonna
- 1:53Speaker 4: jump on. He was also out there at UFC three eighteen.
- 1:55Speaker 4: I'll get his thoughts on that, and then we'll close
- 1:58Speaker 4: it out like we do every day with the bench
- 2:00Speaker 4: right now, though I wanted to move it up a
- 2:03Speaker 4: little bit. It is eight o'clock, it is Monday. It
- 2:05Speaker 4: is now time for weekend winners.
- 2:09Speaker 2: That's how win it has done. That's right. We can't
- 2:12Speaker 2: have anyone freak out out there.
- 2:13Speaker 5: Okay, he's got a k bark. Apologer got too far.
- 2:18Speaker 5: I'm by winning. I went here and I win there.
- 2:21Speaker 3: Now, what are you doing what it takes to win
- 2:25Speaker 3: a championship?
- 2:26Speaker 2: Wow?
- 2:26Speaker 5: Winning?
- 2:28Speaker 6: Well, then I guess there's only one thing left to do.
- 2:32Speaker 5: What's that.
- 2:34Speaker 6: Win the whole thing?
- 2:37Speaker 4: All right, weekend winners every Monday around this time, we
- 2:42Speaker 4: will let our own Alandra Villarriale go first a Landra
- 2:46Speaker 4: winner or loser.
- 2:47Speaker 7: Where we got So I'll start with the weekend loser.
- 2:50Speaker 5: You love, you love the weekend loser, and I respect it.
- 2:52Speaker 5: I respect it the weekend loser.
- 2:55Speaker 2: I think Matt said the other day, like I don't
- 2:57Speaker 2: feel like we do losers enough, and I'm like, I
- 2:59Speaker 2: do the.
- 3:00Speaker 5: You seek them out right, I do them.
- 3:02Speaker 7: At least every week I have a loser.
- 3:05Speaker 2: But you know, sometimes you just gotta I feel like
- 3:08Speaker 2: we need to bring back shame a little more, and
- 3:11Speaker 2: sometimes you just need to be you just need to
- 3:13Speaker 2: call people out for being a loser.
- 3:15Speaker 7: And this week the weekend loser to me is Kelsey Plump.
- 3:19Speaker 5: Why do you hate women? Alunda?
- 3:20Speaker 2: So I hate I certainly hate women so much. I'm
- 3:25Speaker 2: a known woman hater, but I actually think Kelsey Plump
- 3:30Speaker 2: is the one that hates women.
- 3:31Speaker 7: Because so, if.
- 3:34Speaker 2: You missed it, the w NBA all war shirts that
- 3:39Speaker 2: said pay us with you osh I saw, which is
- 3:42Speaker 2: a whole different other beast and of itself, and I
- 3:45Speaker 2: don't know enough to talk about that. I do know
- 3:49Speaker 2: that the w NBA operates at a loss, so I'm
- 3:52Speaker 2: not really sure who owes who, but I'm also not
- 3:57Speaker 2: like an economic person. But anyways, Kelsey Plum. Back to
- 4:01Speaker 2: Kelsey Plum, there was a postgame press conference or just
- 4:05Speaker 2: a press conference where she was talking about it, and
- 4:07Speaker 2: for some reason she felt the.
- 4:09Speaker 7: Need to call out Kitlyn Clark.
- 4:12Speaker 2: So they were talking about the shirts and how they
- 4:15Speaker 2: all had a meeting beforehand to kind of like express
- 4:20Speaker 2: solidarity or whatever, and she was like, not to tattle tell,
- 4:25Speaker 2: but zero members of Team Clark were very present for that.
- 4:29Speaker 7: And I feel like I've.
- 4:30Speaker 2: Seen so many different instances and where Kelsey Plum is
- 4:35Speaker 2: kind of crapping on Caitlyn Clark. And that is so
- 4:38Speaker 2: insane to me, because if there's any reason why the
- 4:41Speaker 2: WNBA owes you anything, or if there's any reason why
- 4:46Speaker 2: people even kind of pay attention to the WNBA now,
- 4:49Speaker 2: not to say that some people didn't before, but like
- 4:53Speaker 2: a lot more people pay attention to the WNBA, and
- 4:56Speaker 2: the WNBA is a topic of conversation because.
- 4:58Speaker 7: Of Kitlyn Clark.
- 5:00Speaker 2: Soh for you to like call her out like that
- 5:02Speaker 2: and call her out all the time, it just screams
- 5:05Speaker 2: hater and it also screams just like I don't even
- 5:09Speaker 2: I don't.
- 5:09Speaker 7: Know, but it's just not.
- 5:12Speaker 2: It's not a good look for Kelsey Plum for her
- 5:15Speaker 2: to always, for some reason have a comment about Caitlin Clark,
- 5:19Speaker 2: which is the only reason why the WNBA is even
- 5:22Speaker 2: remotely relevant.
- 5:23Speaker 4: Now, I appreciate you for bringing this up, like it
- 5:26Speaker 4: ain't just Kelsey Plumb either, like it seems like so
- 5:29Speaker 4: many people out there hate on Caitlin Clark, Like jealousy
- 5:33Speaker 4: is a bad look for you people, because.
- 5:35Speaker 5: That's what this is.
- 5:37Speaker 4: If you want the w if you want to be
- 5:39Speaker 4: paid what you owed, guess who's going to bring in
- 5:41Speaker 4: that revenue. Guess who's bringing in more eyeballs than anybody
- 5:44Speaker 4: else in this sport. It's Kaitlyn Clark. You don't have
- 5:47Speaker 4: to like her, but get on board with what she's doing.
- 5:50Speaker 4: She is a tantalizing, polarizing figure. She is coming in
- 5:54Speaker 4: and bringing eyeballs to the sport like never before. Like
- 5:57Speaker 4: they ESPN put out a ratings the other day and
- 6:00Speaker 4: I don't remember the numbers. I don't even know where
- 6:02Speaker 4: you're gonna find the chart, but like the numbers had
- 6:04Speaker 4: spiked incredibly high after Kaitlin Clark got into the WNBA.
- 6:08Speaker 5: It's continued this year.
- 6:10Speaker 4: Like, yeah, if you truly want to advance the sport
- 6:13Speaker 4: of the WNBA, then you should get behind Caitlyn Clark
- 6:16Speaker 4: full force and just go ahead and make her the
- 6:17Speaker 4: face of the league. Like I don't really understand all
- 6:20Speaker 4: this jealousy, Like people are saying, oh, well, you know
- 6:22Speaker 4: you got to.
- 6:23Speaker 5: Earn your keep, Like okay, what have you done? That's fine,
- 6:25Speaker 5: you want to do. You want a.
- 6:26Speaker 4: WNBA championship with the aces, that's fine. I can respect that,
- 6:30Speaker 4: but like, get on board because you can't wear a
- 6:33Speaker 4: shirt that says pay us what you owe as we
- 6:34Speaker 4: deserve more, and the girl that brings in more eyeballs
- 6:37Speaker 4: than anybody else crap on in the media. You can't
- 6:39Speaker 4: do both pick one side of the fence and stay
- 6:41Speaker 4: on it, Paul with your.
- 6:42Speaker 7: Yeah, well hold on. Sorry. The other thing that like
- 6:45Speaker 7: kind of bothers me about this too, is that, like.
- 6:49Speaker 2: You know, at the same time, men do crap on
- 6:53Speaker 2: the WNBA all the time, and it's very easy to
- 6:56Speaker 2: make fun of women in sports, Like it really is,
- 6:59Speaker 2: Like I think we can all admit, yeah, like men
- 7:02Speaker 2: will also hate on the WNBA and from right exactly
- 7:07Speaker 2: that and also like the one thing that they'll say
- 7:09Speaker 2: a lot that I see is that like, oh, well,
- 7:11Speaker 2: women are their own worst enemy.
- 7:12Speaker 7: Or whatever, and they're just like proving them right.
- 7:15Speaker 2: So it just it's a bad look for Kelsey Plumb,
- 7:18Speaker 2: it's a bad look for the WNBA. And like she
- 7:21Speaker 2: really it was just a very unnecessary comment. There is
- 7:25Speaker 2: no reason to make it.
- 7:26Speaker 4: Nobody asked her who had more attendance team clerk or
- 7:29Speaker 4: team call here, Like nobody nobody asked that.
- 7:31Speaker 5: Like she threw that out there.
- 7:32Speaker 4: And like to your point, like she kind of his
- 7:35Speaker 4: WNBA's worst enemy at this point because support us. I'm
- 7:39Speaker 4: not gonna support my fellow athletes, but we want you
- 7:41Speaker 4: to support it. So it's just it's kind of a yeah,
- 7:44Speaker 4: kind of contradictory there, Paul O'Neill, Well, we.
- 7:48Speaker 5: Got we got a winner. We gotta lose where we go.
- 7:50Speaker 8: I'm gonna go a week in winner. This is gonna
- 7:52Speaker 8: go to former MLB pitcher Anthony Ianson.
- 7:55Speaker 7: Let's okay.
- 7:56Speaker 8: He was drafted in the third round, eighty seventh overall
- 7:59Speaker 8: by Muso's Boston Red Sox. Yeah, but he signed his
- 8:06Speaker 8: pro deal. He signed for one point seven to five million.
- 8:09Speaker 8: Hell yeah, his slot value for eighty seven overall was
- 8:13Speaker 8: nine hundred seven thousand, so he did sign overslot. He
- 8:17Speaker 8: was ranked third in the NCAA with in wins with
- 8:20Speaker 8: twelve and in k's with one hundred and fifty two.
- 8:23Speaker 8: So yeah, shout out to Anthony Ions and shine that
- 8:25Speaker 8: pro contract.
- 8:27Speaker 7: Let's go love to see it.
- 8:29Speaker 4: Yeah, shout out to Anthony Ions and left the heartfelt
- 8:31Speaker 4: letter t l issume like that's just class act all
- 8:35Speaker 4: the way around.
- 8:36Speaker 5: We knew that, like you you had heard any interview.
- 8:38Speaker 4: With him throughout the season, Like you you knew how
- 8:42Speaker 4: classy of a guy. Anthony Iinson is like, congratulations to him,
- 8:45Speaker 4: a guy that for whatever reason was under the radar,
- 8:47Speaker 4: like if Kate Anderson is not on LSU's team, like
- 8:50Speaker 4: Anthony Iinson is probably first second team All American like
- 8:55Speaker 4: somewhere in there just underlooked because he wasn't your Friday guy.
- 8:58Speaker 4: But like I always made the point throughout the season,
- 9:00Speaker 4: like to me, it's one A, one B like LSU
- 9:02Speaker 4: has two aces at this point Friday Saturday. Yeah, I
- 9:05Speaker 4: don't care, like they can both get it done. But
- 9:07Speaker 4: shout out to Anthony Iinson. My first weekend winner is
- 9:12Speaker 4: going to be Scotty Scheffler. So I had to come
- 9:15Speaker 4: to take it or leave it with Beck on Thursday
- 9:17Speaker 4: because Hunt had to roll. They had an early flight
- 9:19Speaker 4: to get back to bed Rouge, and he said, Taylor's
- 9:23Speaker 4: gonna watch any of the Open, take it or leave it.
- 9:26Speaker 5: I left it. Well, turns out I was wrong.
- 9:28Speaker 4: I said down and watch the entire final round yesterday
- 9:31Speaker 4: because I wanted to see Scotty Scheffler.
- 9:33Speaker 5: And Scotty Scheffler dominated.
- 9:34Speaker 4: He finished seventeen under par throughout the whole four day tournament.
- 9:38Speaker 4: He wins the Open it is his fourth major championship.
- 9:42Speaker 4: He's won the Masters twice, he won the PGA Championship,
- 9:45Speaker 4: now he has the Open.
- 9:47Speaker 5: Look.
- 9:47Speaker 4: I like a good sports fun fact and I saw
- 9:50Speaker 4: this yesterday. It was a graphic making the rounds. Everyone's
- 9:53Speaker 4: going to compare Scotty Scheffer to Tiger Woods, right, wrong
- 9:56Speaker 4: or indifferent? If I'm Scotty, I love the comparison. I
- 9:58Speaker 4: know a lot of people say, oh, why do we
- 10:00Speaker 4: I have to compare a guy to guy Tiger Woods
- 10:02Speaker 4: between his first major win and his fourth major win.
- 10:06Speaker 5: So one to four. It was a total of ninety
- 10:09Speaker 5: seven days.
- 10:10Speaker 4: Yesterday mark the one ninety seven day for Scotty Scheffer
- 10:14Speaker 4: between his first Master and his fourth. The comparisons are
- 10:17Speaker 4: going to stay there. Scotti Schefler the most dominant player
- 10:20Speaker 4: in the sport. And like it's weird, you know he
- 10:22Speaker 4: he's a guy that doesn't show a ton of emotion. However,
- 10:25Speaker 4: I loved the emotion he showed yesterday after winning the Open,
- 10:28Speaker 4: he threw his hat up in the air. His little
- 10:30Speaker 4: boy came and ran out with him. He paraded him
- 10:32Speaker 4: around the eighteenth Green holding up the trophy, like we
- 10:36Speaker 4: need more of that. But Scotti Scheffer's almost a boring
- 10:39Speaker 4: golfer because he makes it look so easy, Like you
- 10:41Speaker 4: expect this from Scotty Scheffer, Like he hit it into
- 10:43Speaker 4: the Ralph yesterday. I'm watching and everybody on TV he's like, huh,
- 10:47Speaker 4: there's actually nothing the better of a shot for Scotty
- 10:49Speaker 4: like anybody else. Yeah, and then what does Scotty do?
- 10:51Speaker 4: He hits the ball up with his six iron about
- 10:54Speaker 4: fifteen feet from the hole, Like that's just what Scotty
- 10:56Speaker 4: Scheffler does. Even when he gets in the jam, he
- 10:59Speaker 4: knows how to get out of it. He is playing
- 11:02Speaker 4: at a level we haven't seen in a long time.
- 11:04Speaker 4: Weekend Winter, Scottie Scheffer or anybody else got anything.
- 11:08Speaker 2: I mean, I know we talked about it last hour,
- 11:10Speaker 2: but Dustin Poorier, even though he lost that fight, has
- 11:14Speaker 2: to be a weekend winner just based off of like
- 11:17Speaker 2: his send off, it was incredible. So shout out Dustin,
- 11:21Speaker 2: Shout out UFC three eighteen, Shout out to the UFC. Like,
- 11:24Speaker 2: I know, it's a very niche sport and not a
- 11:26Speaker 2: lot of people like it. I didn't really realize that
- 11:28Speaker 2: until this weekend because, like y'all know that, I've always
- 11:31Speaker 2: really really enjoyed it. But UFC is freaking fun and amazing.
- 11:38Speaker 5: It's so weird.
- 11:38Speaker 4: Like I agree with you on given Dustin Poie a
- 11:42Speaker 4: weekend winner, but like, yeah, you always have to give
- 11:44Speaker 4: one to Halloween as well, not because of the fight win,
- 11:46Speaker 4: but because going into it like this was all about Dustin.
- 11:49Speaker 5: Poitier is respectful retirement tour.
- 11:52Speaker 4: He was so respectful, but also like so many people
- 11:54Speaker 4: were like, oh, Dustin's gonna win this fight, like it's
- 11:56Speaker 4: it's set in stone, like this is his like he
- 11:58Speaker 4: was Halloway goes in wins, doesn't brag about it. I
- 12:01Speaker 4: mentioned earlier, like chatting with chatting with Poorier after the fight,
- 12:05Speaker 4: Like as much as you wanted that big fight win
- 12:08Speaker 4: to be about you, he still made the moment about
- 12:10Speaker 4: Dustin Pourrier. Like weekend winner for me has to be
- 12:14Speaker 4: mister Max Holloway.
- 12:15Speaker 5: Paul, I want to.
- 12:16Speaker 4: Ask you this, This has nothing to do with Weekend Winner,
- 12:19Speaker 4: but you mentioned the Boston Red Sox, and this is
- 12:21Speaker 4: something I've thought about a lot. So many people say
- 12:26Speaker 4: the New York Yankees have so many Bandwagon fans, so
- 12:29Speaker 4: I can't be a bandwagon fan. However, I think I
- 12:32Speaker 4: know more Red Sox fans than any other fan base
- 12:36Speaker 4: in the Major League, and the reason is, oh, well,
- 12:39Speaker 4: they're not the New York Yankees. So like so many
- 12:42Speaker 4: people are jumping on the Red Sox bandwagon because they
- 12:44Speaker 4: don't want to be the Yankees. But like, I know,
- 12:47Speaker 4: more just random Red Sox fans than anything I can.
- 12:50Speaker 8: See that I think. I think I personally still still
- 12:55Speaker 8: no more Yankee fans.
- 12:57Speaker 5: Yeah, I think I only know two Yankees fans. They
- 12:59Speaker 5: both were Andre and Moscono. If that's it is he,
- 13:04Speaker 5: I don't know, your brother. Shout out to mister O'Neal.
- 13:08Speaker 7: No, no shout out.
- 13:10Speaker 4: But it's just weird, Like, I just I see that
- 13:12Speaker 4: a lot, Like people like the Yankees have so many
- 13:14Speaker 4: bandwagon fans. I'm like, but aren't you kind of doing
- 13:16Speaker 4: the same thing just despite the Yankees? Yeah, I just
- 13:18Speaker 4: I just I see that a lot. Everybody I went
- 13:20Speaker 4: to high school with, we're like, why are you.
- 13:23Speaker 5: A Yankees fan?
- 13:24Speaker 4: Well, I mean they're the they're the I mean, why
- 13:25Speaker 4: are you Red Sox fan? Well, they're they're the Yankees'
- 13:27Speaker 4: biggest rye. Okay, So didn't you kind of just do
- 13:30Speaker 4: the same thing that.
- 13:31Speaker 5: You cas just something I've always thought about. I'm not
- 13:34Speaker 5: not accusing anybody of anything.
- 13:35Speaker 4: Just something i've noticed from afar. Okay, one more weekend
- 13:40Speaker 4: winner from me com Canipple of the NBA. They're there
- 13:47Speaker 4: in the summer league. He took the Hornets to their
- 13:50Speaker 4: first Summer League title, and uh, he's been dominant. He
- 13:54Speaker 4: got drafted fourth overall, and there were a lot of
- 13:56Speaker 4: people right after the NBA draft that were like, that
- 13:58Speaker 4: is way too high for Kankinill. He's more of an eight, nine,
- 14:01Speaker 4: ten draft pick. You dropped them at four overall. He
- 14:04Speaker 4: has looked like a stud so far. I understand that
- 14:06Speaker 4: it's summer league, the competition is gonna be better, But
- 14:09Speaker 4: right now that investment by the Charlotte Hornet certainly seems
- 14:12Speaker 4: to be paying off. Conkinable looks like a stud.
- 14:16Speaker 7: All right.
- 14:16Speaker 4: If Nobes someybody else have a weekn winner losing, all right,
- 14:19Speaker 4: well we're gonna take a time out and we get back.
- 14:22Speaker 4: Schamar Stewart Cincinnati Bengals. They were in a contract.
- 14:25Speaker 1: Hold.
- 14:26Speaker 5: We'll break that down next. He're on off the bench.
- 14:30Speaker 3: Off the bench, it's not go when the old intro
- 14:35Speaker 3: net is spinning and you're like, oh, we got to
- 14:37Speaker 3: get that world clock going.
- 14:39Speaker 5: We switched to the phone that we got to work in.

- 16:00Speaker 4: mentioned Tyler Shock was the last remaining second round pick
- 16:04Speaker 4: that wanted guaranteed money to get that guaranteed contract at
- 16:07Speaker 4: forty overall.
- 16:08Speaker 5: He got it. He's going to.
- 16:09Speaker 4: Report to training camp. Everything fine and dandy on the
- 16:12Speaker 4: Black and Gold front. Well, one first round pick is
- 16:16Speaker 4: still unsigned, and that is Cincinnati Bengals rookie defensive lineman
- 16:20Speaker 4: Shamar Stewart.
- 16:21Speaker 5: He's unsigned. All the Bengals rookies.
- 16:24Speaker 4: Reported to training camp on Saturday, Chamar Stewart was not
- 16:28Speaker 4: in that number due to an ongoing dispute.
- 16:32Speaker 5: So what it is is.
- 16:33Speaker 4: It's a contract dispute, but it's not over money. So
- 16:37Speaker 4: the rookie wage Scial was implemented in twenty eleven. Stuart's
- 16:41Speaker 4: fully guaranteed contract would be four years, worth a round
- 16:45Speaker 4: eighteen point nine million and about a ten point four
- 16:49Speaker 4: million dollars signing bonus.
- 16:50Speaker 5: Like that's that's set in stone.
- 16:51Speaker 4: That's not really something you negotiate a ton of one
- 16:54Speaker 4: way or the other. Now you could turn something into
- 16:56Speaker 4: your signing bonus, have more upfront on the back end,
- 16:58Speaker 4: But as far as like number, that's pretty much set
- 17:01Speaker 4: in stone. The disagreement is over language in Stuart's contract.
- 17:06Speaker 4: So what it would do is trigger the voiding of
- 17:08Speaker 4: his salary guarantees with a breach or a default in
- 17:11Speaker 4: the contract on the part of Stuart. It says the
- 17:14Speaker 4: Bengals want to tighten up the language to remove any
- 17:16Speaker 4: ambiguity over whether all remaining guarantees in the contract void
- 17:20Speaker 4: with a default.
- 17:22Speaker 5: Now you can kind of see both sides of this.
- 17:25Speaker 4: Stuart's camp wants similar language to what Amarius memes the
- 17:29Speaker 4: first round tackle that the Bengals took last year. What
- 17:32Speaker 4: was in his deal. He was actually selected one spot
- 17:35Speaker 4: after Stuart Stewart selected seventeen this year. Mems selected eighteen
- 17:40Speaker 4: a year ago. Now, there's not a ton of detail
- 17:42Speaker 4: on like what the defaults or what the contract breaches
- 17:47Speaker 4: would be on Stuart's part to consider voiding all the
- 17:51Speaker 4: guaranteed money. Look, you can look at it from both sides.
- 17:59Speaker 4: Let's pick on Stuart.
- 18:00Speaker 5: First and then we'll pick on the bingles.
- 18:02Speaker 4: If you're Stuart and you aren't planning on breaching anything,
- 18:06Speaker 4: not a ton to worry about with the language.
- 18:08Speaker 5: Now, I get it.
- 18:08Speaker 4: You want your contract a certain way, you feel you
- 18:10Speaker 4: have earned it. I can respect that to me, not
- 18:13Speaker 4: just Stuart on the part of the Cincinnati Bengals. So
- 18:15Speaker 4: this is an ego issue for both sides. If you're Stuart,
- 18:18Speaker 4: you're like, hey, I want what everybody else got. Why
- 18:20Speaker 4: are you singling me out? If you're the Bengals, it's hey,
- 18:23Speaker 4: we're paying you close to eighteen million dollars on your
- 18:25Speaker 4: rookie contract.
- 18:26Speaker 5: You take what we give you.
- 18:27Speaker 4: I can see both sides, but it's not about money.
- 18:31Speaker 5: Can both sides just get over it?
- 18:34Speaker 4: You find some sort of common ground, Like reports now
- 18:36Speaker 4: are that the Bengals are not budging and Jamar Stewart's
- 18:38Speaker 4: not budget and there is a certain date in twenty
- 18:43Speaker 4: twenty five that if you're not signed, it's sometime in December,
- 18:47Speaker 4: you could like potentially apply for some sort of waiver
- 18:49Speaker 4: and like re enter the twenty twenty six NFL draft,
- 18:52Speaker 4: So like that's possibly an option.
- 18:54Speaker 5: I personally don't think he gets there. There's a reason
- 18:56Speaker 5: we haven't seen that.
- 18:58Speaker 4: And then you know, there was a report last week
- 19:00Speaker 4: saying Shamar Stewart he's practicing with Texas A and m like,
- 19:03Speaker 4: is he is he going to try to sue the NCAAA,
- 19:05Speaker 4: And I mean, we know that if you sue the NCAAA,
- 19:07Speaker 4: now you're going to win. Judges hate the NCAAA, and
- 19:11Speaker 4: they were like, oh, if you sue the NCAAA, you
- 19:13Speaker 4: could potentially go back get your final year of eligibility back. Well,
- 19:16Speaker 4: Mike Yelko came out last week and kind of squashed
- 19:18Speaker 4: that notion. He was like, look, he's at our team facility,
- 19:21Speaker 4: using our facility to work out in the offseason. He's
- 19:24Speaker 4: not practicing with the team, he's not doing conditioning with
- 19:27Speaker 4: the team. He's doing his own stuff at our facility. Shocker,
- 19:30Speaker 4: Shamar Stewart's not going back to school. I thought that
- 19:33Speaker 4: was kind of a load of crap when we first
- 19:34Speaker 4: heard it. To me, though, Bingles Stewart, this says a
- 19:39Speaker 4: lot about both sides. The Bengals are terrible at contract negotiations.
- 19:43Speaker 4: For example, Demetrius Knight, a fourth round picked this year
- 19:46Speaker 4: for the Bengals, also still unsigned. You have yet to
- 19:50Speaker 4: resign Trey Hendrickson to a long term extension. He wants
- 19:53Speaker 4: the money. He thinks he's a you've done next to
- 19:55Speaker 4: nothing to get that contract done. And also maybe they
- 20:01Speaker 4: believe there's a reason to be extra cautious with Stuart,
- 20:04Speaker 4: which kind of says a lot about him as well.
- 20:07Speaker 4: Like Chamar Stewart, in my opinion, was a bad pick anyways.
- 20:12Speaker 4: You drafted a guy eighteenth overall based purely on potential.
- 20:16Speaker 4: It wasn't based on hon Field production. In his three
- 20:19Speaker 4: year career at Texas A and m Shamar Stewart sixty
- 20:22Speaker 4: five tackles, twelve tackles were lost, four and a half sacks.
- 20:25Speaker 4: He had four and a half sacks in three years
- 20:27Speaker 4: and went seventeenth overall. Now I get it he's a
- 20:29Speaker 4: little bit more of a run stuffer, but I mean
- 20:31Speaker 4: the production just really wasn't.
- 20:33Speaker 5: It wasn't what she wanted it to be.
- 20:36Speaker 4: Not a guy playing big time college football who's going
- 20:38Speaker 4: to get drafted in the first round. Stuart will sign
- 20:43Speaker 4: at some point because I don't think he has a
- 20:45Speaker 4: choice again. He can sit out and try again next year.
- 20:48Speaker 4: I don't think he does that. I don't know if
- 20:52Speaker 4: the Bengals fold Like I would like to say they
- 20:54Speaker 4: come to some sort of common ground, But again, the
- 20:56Speaker 4: Bengals are so bad at contract discussions and to gociations
- 21:00Speaker 4: that I don't know if the Cincinnati Bengals are gonna
- 21:02Speaker 4: budge on this. Reports are right now that they're not.
- 21:05Speaker 4: But how many time do you see reports this is
- 21:08Speaker 4: this team's hard number. They're not giving a player of
- 21:09Speaker 4: pennymore and then like two days later they give them
- 21:12Speaker 4: like a record breaking contract. That happens all the time.
- 21:16Speaker 4: My advice for the Bengals, though, like, work on this
- 21:19Speaker 4: when you can. You gotta worry about Trey Hendrickson. Two,
- 21:24Speaker 4: you gotta re sign this guy. Trey Hendrickson was the
- 21:28Speaker 4: NFL sack leader this year twenty twenty four seventeen and
- 21:31Speaker 4: a half sacks. Oh you want to know what he
- 21:34Speaker 4: did in twenty twenty three, also seventeen and a half sacks.
- 21:40Speaker 4: Since he's been in Cincinnati fourteen eight, seventeen and a half,
- 21:43Speaker 4: seventeen and a half.
- 21:44Speaker 5: That's many sacks he's had per season.
- 21:46Speaker 4: So one season with less than double digits, then he's
- 21:48Speaker 4: had fourteen seventeen and a half twice. The guy's is
- 21:51Speaker 4: stud he is a top five pass rusher in this league.
- 21:54Speaker 5: Pay it.
- 21:56Speaker 4: You just saw TJ. Watt get a huge number. Miles
- 21:58Speaker 4: Garrett got a big number. Like all of these guys
- 22:01Speaker 4: are signing big time contracts. Don't let Tree Henderson walk
- 22:05Speaker 4: out the door. You've already moved on from a number
- 22:08Speaker 4: of defensive guys.
- 22:09Speaker 5: You should not.
- 22:11Speaker 4: You had one of the worst defenses in the NFL.
- 22:13Speaker 4: Like according to prof Football Reference, your defense was ring
- 22:16Speaker 4: twenty fifth in the NFL last year out of thirty
- 22:18Speaker 4: two teams. Case you're wondering that ain't good. Like how
- 22:26Speaker 4: much money did the Bengals have left? Like that's a question.
- 22:28Speaker 4: A lot of people ask, what's your fault for signing
- 22:29Speaker 4: T Higgins? Like, I love T Higgins. I think he's
- 22:32Speaker 4: agree receiver. Sending him to a deal that big was
- 22:34Speaker 4: a bad move in my opinion.
- 22:36Speaker 5: I get that.
- 22:37Speaker 4: Your starting quarterback comes out, and when Joe Burrow says, hey,
- 22:39Speaker 4: you have to resign T Higgins, the team feels like
- 22:41Speaker 4: they need to. However, like I get it, Joe wants
- 22:45Speaker 4: the weapons to play with on offense. You got to
- 22:47Speaker 4: show up that defense. Offense wasn't your problem. My year ago,
- 22:50Speaker 4: Burrow put up huge numbers. Jamar Chase is if not
- 22:54Speaker 4: the best, then no less than the second best wide
- 22:55Speaker 4: receiver in the NFL. Your running game is solid, it's
- 23:00Speaker 4: fine with Chase Brown and Zach Moss. Your offensive line's
- 23:04Speaker 4: actually getting a little bit better. That's not saying much,
- 23:06Speaker 4: but it's getting better. You have to shore up the
- 23:09Speaker 4: defense because there were a lot of times last year
- 23:12Speaker 4: the Bengals had put up thirty five, thirty eight points
- 23:15Speaker 4: and looking for one stop on defense to potentially win
- 23:17Speaker 4: a game, and they couldn't get it, and that's why
- 23:19Speaker 4: they've missed the playoffs two years in a row. You
- 23:22Speaker 4: can't have that happen. You have to re sign Trey Hendrickson.
- 23:25Speaker 4: You ultimately got to get Stuart done as well. But
- 23:30Speaker 4: I want to blame Stuart. I want to be the
- 23:32Speaker 4: guy to be like, he's getting eighteen million dollars guarantee.
- 23:35Speaker 4: You just signed the contract to move on if you're
- 23:37Speaker 4: not worried about breaching the contract and the language shouldn't matter.
- 23:39Speaker 4: But at the same time, the Cincinnati Bengals have a
- 23:42Speaker 4: terrible track record when it comes to contract negotiations. Stuart's unsigned,
- 23:48Speaker 4: Dimitri's Knights, unsigned, Trey Hendrickson's unsigned, not only as Trey
- 23:51Speaker 4: Hendrickson unsigned. Like all reports come out there, like you
- 23:53Speaker 4: offered him a deal a long time ago, and like
- 23:55Speaker 4: you refuse to negotiate, Like you're the Bengals. It's not
- 23:59Speaker 4: like you're the Kansas ay Chiefs and people are going
- 24:01Speaker 4: there to win a Super Bowl. You need all the
- 24:02Speaker 4: help you can get. You're not one of the premier
- 24:04Speaker 4: franchises in the NFL. You're not a destination spot right now.
- 24:08Speaker 4: You're lucky you got Joe Burrow and Jamar Chase. They're
- 24:11Speaker 4: keeping you about as relevant as you can be. Get
- 24:13Speaker 4: it together, Bengals, Get it together, Shimar Stewart, Get this done.
- 24:17Speaker 4: Like you're you're the final first round camp hold out. Like,
- 24:20Speaker 4: get it done. It's better for both sides if you
- 24:22Speaker 4: get this done. Put your egos inside for a minute.
- 24:25Speaker 4: Get the contract done.
- 24:26Speaker 9: All right.
- 24:26Speaker 4: Look, we're going to take a quick time out. We
- 24:28Speaker 4: get back. We're talking about NFL next. We're going back
- 24:30Speaker 4: to the New Orleans Saints. I got Ross Jackson have
- 24:33Speaker 4: locked on Saints and louisianasports dot Net. He's gonna hop
- 24:36Speaker 4: on whether it's get a little training camp preview. That's
- 24:38Speaker 4: coming up next. You're on off the bench.
- 24:41Speaker 9: Off the bench, you go there, Matthew, heybuddy, all right,
- 24:44Speaker 9: well we are going to let's see get Gordon. All right,
- 24:48Speaker 9: go go to get Gordon dot com. Everywhere in Louisiana.
- 24:53Speaker 9: You can call whatever your area code is. Eight eight
- 24:55Speaker 9: eight eight eight eight eight. Look, injuries happen, accidents happen,
- 24:58Speaker 9: whether it's on the road, whether you're at work, whether
- 25:01Speaker 9: it's whatever it is. Call somebody that's gonna fight for you,
- 25:04Speaker 9: and that is Get Gordon. That is this whole entire
- 25:07Speaker 9: team dedicated to helping you get what you deserve. Call
- 25:11Speaker 9: him today anywhere in Louisiana. Like I said, eight eight
- 25:14Speaker 9: eight eight eight eight eight, get Gordon dot com.
- 25:18Speaker 5: Go to get Gordon dot com.
- 25:19Speaker 3: That is a website Gordon Mckerney injury attorneys. Like Matt said,
- 25:21Speaker 3: it is your area code in Louisiana. Fall about eight
- 25:24Speaker 3: eight eighty eight eighty eight, Get Gordon and get it done.
- 25:30Speaker 1: From players to legends, Hester and Flynn breakdown LSU football
- 25:34Speaker 1: like only champions can.
- 25:44Speaker 4: All right, welcome back in out number two. Here on
- 25:46Speaker 4: a Monday edition of Off the Bench. We're about halfway
- 25:49Speaker 4: through our Monday show. We have hit a ton of
- 25:52Speaker 4: topics so far. In just a few minutes, we're gonna
- 25:54Speaker 4: go out to the Ralse Jackson. He's running a little
- 25:56Speaker 4: bit behind. Just got the text from him, so we'll
- 25:59Speaker 4: catch up with him in about two minutes. But look
- 26:02Speaker 4: Saints training camp coming up. On Wednesday, reopened the show
- 26:06Speaker 4: talking about Tyler Shuck. He got the fully guaranteed contract
- 26:09Speaker 4: that a lot of these guys drafted high in the
- 26:11Speaker 4: second round wanted. It'll be interesting to see the quarterback
- 26:14Speaker 4: bat like, okay, hand up. All things equal, I would
- 26:19Speaker 4: prefer the coaching staff go with Tyler Shuck. He's a
- 26:23Speaker 4: guy that has the potential. They drafted him for a reason.
- 26:27Speaker 4: But look the two guys that normally sit here. They've
- 26:29Speaker 4: hyped up Spencer Rattler a lot in the coming weeks.
- 26:32Speaker 4: Like my take on Spencer Rattler, he was thrown into
- 26:35Speaker 4: a really bad situation last year. It was a makeshift
- 26:39Speaker 4: offensive line. You had no weapons or receiver. Everything was
- 26:44Speaker 4: kind of all over the place. But at the same time,
- 26:49Speaker 4: I think there were plays that Spencer Rattler made. I'm like,
- 26:52Speaker 4: you can't make that through, And I get it. You're
- 26:54Speaker 4: trying to make a play. You're trying to show what
- 26:55Speaker 4: you can do as a rookie. But what I saw
- 26:58Speaker 4: from Spencer Rattler was Oklahoma Spencer Rattler, which got him bitched.
- 27:04Speaker 4: Now again, he was a rookie, he was thrown into
- 27:06Speaker 4: the fire. He probably didn't expect to play much at
- 27:08Speaker 4: all last season as a rookie. But look, it kind
- 27:14Speaker 4: of is what it is at this point. I obviously
- 27:17Speaker 4: want whoever to win this job earned it. That's why
- 27:20Speaker 4: I was talking at the beginning of the show, like
- 27:22Speaker 4: it's important to have shocked just because like, sure, Spencer
- 27:25Speaker 4: Utler may want to be in a great quarterback, but
- 27:26Speaker 4: you don't want to give somebody the starting quarterback job
- 27:29Speaker 4: by default because the other guy wasn't there. You want
- 27:31Speaker 4: these guys battling and scratching and clawing for every single
- 27:34Speaker 4: thing and ultimately let the best man win the job.
- 27:38Speaker 4: Like that's where we're at right now with Saints training camp.
- 27:41Speaker 4: Like quarterback battle's gonna dominate the headlines. There's a lot
- 27:45Speaker 4: of other spots you gotta worry about as well, Like
- 27:47Speaker 4: get everybody in the building ready to go for training camp.
- 27:51Speaker 4: Speaking of training camp, we're gonna go out to the
- 27:53Speaker 4: phone lines right now, our guy Ross Jackson but locked
- 27:55Speaker 4: on Saints and writes for our website Louisianasports dot Net.
- 27:58Speaker 5: Ross, how are you this.
- 27:59Speaker 6: Morning, hey man?
- 28:00Speaker 3: Doing great, doing great?
- 28:01Speaker 6: Thanks much for having me, Thanks for your patience.
- 28:03Speaker 4: Yeah, absolutely, thanks for kind of shifting things around. I
- 28:05Speaker 4: know it's a busy morning for you, because well it's
- 28:09Speaker 4: a busy week for the New Orleans Saints.
- 28:10Speaker 5: Hrel's training camp coming up.
- 28:12Speaker 4: Look, I was just talking before you hopped on Tyler
- 28:15Speaker 4: Shuck now on board the contract situation in the past.
- 28:19Speaker 4: How do you see this quarterback battle shaken out, You
- 28:22Speaker 4: got Rattler, you got Shuck all training camp Loan.
- 28:25Speaker 6: Yeah, look, I think that it's going to be a
- 28:27Speaker 6: very good quarterback battle. I think both these quarterbacks performed
- 28:30Speaker 6: well throughout OTAs in mini caamp, with since Ratler maybe
- 28:33Speaker 6: having the slight edge as a guy that came in
- 28:34Speaker 6: with a little bit more experience, more rhythm to his game,
- 28:37Speaker 6: all those other things. Right, He's seen the NFL game
- 28:39Speaker 6: in the NFL speed already for a few games, and
- 28:42Speaker 6: so I think all of that kind of goes in
- 28:44Speaker 6: the credit of Spencer Rattler. But look, I think Ultimately,
- 28:48Speaker 6: this is a little bit of a little bit more
- 28:50Speaker 6: of an uphill battle for Spencer Rattler than it is
- 28:53Speaker 6: anything else because of the investment in Tyler Shock and Ahny.
- 28:56Speaker 6: We talked about the contract, right, like, the guaranteed contract
- 28:59Speaker 6: is really a conversation of like eight percent. He was
- 29:02Speaker 6: either going to get one hundred percent guaranteed deal or
- 29:03Speaker 6: he's going to get like a ninety something percent guaranteed deal.
- 29:06Speaker 6: And so it's not that huge of a difference in
- 29:08Speaker 6: terms of what happened versus what could have happened otherwise
- 29:11Speaker 6: when it comes to that contract. But I do think
- 29:13Speaker 6: that like being drafted number forty overall, being the highest
- 29:16Speaker 6: quarterback draft pick in New Orleans in the NFL draft proper,
- 29:20Speaker 6: not including the supplemental draft since nineteen seventy one, and
- 29:22Speaker 6: if you do include the UMETL draft, okay, then since
- 29:24Speaker 6: the nineteen eighties, and he's you know, kind of being
- 29:28Speaker 6: called Kellen Moore's guy. It sounds like he was kind
- 29:31Speaker 6: of Kellen Moore that identified that this was the quarterback
- 29:34Speaker 6: that he liked. And so I think, like, with all
- 29:35Speaker 6: that in mind, in this idea of kind of turning
- 29:39Speaker 6: the page and shifting to the new regime and shifting
- 29:41Speaker 6: to kind of the new era of New Orleans. I'm
- 29:44Speaker 6: it's going to be hard to kind of outplay that
- 29:48Speaker 6: idea of making that full shift, and so I think
- 29:51Speaker 6: it's a tough battle for both these guys because they
- 29:54Speaker 6: both have to prove it. And I think that whoever
- 29:56Speaker 6: ends about their Week one undoubtedly earned the opportunity to
- 29:59Speaker 6: be out there week one. But it wouldn't be surprised
- 30:01Speaker 6: if throughout the twenty twenty five season we end up
- 30:03Speaker 6: seeing both of these quarterbacks for some amount of time.
- 30:07Speaker 5: Rossa.
- 30:07Speaker 4: All the talk obviously is going to be around the
- 30:09Speaker 4: quarterback battle because it's the position with the most eye
- 30:12Speaker 4: balls on a ride. But as far as the guys
- 30:14Speaker 4: protecting them, the Saints offensive line, we know what it's
- 30:17Speaker 4: been in the last couple of years. It's it's been
- 30:19Speaker 4: pretty makeshift. But you dropped Calvin Banks in the first round.
- 30:22Speaker 4: You you're trying to improve that maybe going into training camp.
- 30:26Speaker 4: What is your level of optimism for this group?
- 30:29Speaker 6: Yeah, Look, it's funny. I think that the offensive line
- 30:32Speaker 6: is both the source of optimism and anxiety for a
- 30:35Speaker 6: lot of day right, you know, it kind of kind
- 30:37Speaker 6: of bridges the gap between both of those things because
- 30:41Speaker 6: of what's happened in the past, and in particular, you
- 30:44Speaker 6: know the injuries and kind of drop off from the
- 30:47Speaker 6: starter unit to the backup unit. And look, there's a
- 30:50Speaker 6: reason why players are starters and there's a reason why
- 30:52Speaker 6: players are backup. There's always going to be some level
- 30:54Speaker 6: drop off. But when you got to the point last year,
- 30:56Speaker 6: I'm sure you were signing guys on Tuesday to play
- 30:58Speaker 6: on Sunday. It was a little tough, right, And so
- 31:02Speaker 6: I think that Fort New Orleans really this one, like
- 31:04Speaker 6: the sign of optimism around all of it is that
- 31:08Speaker 6: I thinks have kind of reshuffled things around, but are
- 31:11Speaker 6: still returning four of their five starters from last year,
- 31:14Speaker 6: even though two were going to be starting in different places.
- 31:17Speaker 6: It feels like there's still a level of continuity there.
- 31:20Speaker 6: They get a top ten tackle selection, that was the
- 31:24Speaker 6: Outland Trophy winner, that was the Lombardi Award winner, that
- 31:27Speaker 6: was a consensus Ald American and Kelsen Banks Junior. Like,
- 31:30Speaker 6: there's good talent and a lot of investment there, first
- 31:32Speaker 6: or second round picks all the way across the offensive line.
- 31:35Speaker 6: But I think that the real source of optimism for
- 31:37Speaker 6: this offensive line are the veteran depth pieces that were
- 31:41Speaker 6: added this offseason, Dylan Raident's Will Clapp junior Will Clap
- 31:44Speaker 6: coming back. I think that both of those guys give
- 31:47Speaker 6: you a better kind of emergency turn two should you
- 31:52Speaker 6: need to. If there be any injury on the offensive line,
- 31:55Speaker 6: then where the Saints were last year, they could continue
- 31:57Speaker 6: to build that up. Layel Collins was on this very
- 32:00Speaker 6: station talk about how he's had conversations with Kellen Moore
- 32:02Speaker 6: and so we'll see what happens there. But I think
- 32:05Speaker 6: that really the big thing is the amount of investment
- 32:08Speaker 6: that was in there. And this was a team that
- 32:09Speaker 6: is showing again that it would rather build from the
- 32:11Speaker 6: inside out. But I feel like they were really successful
- 32:13Speaker 6: at doing this offseason.
- 32:15Speaker 4: Ross one more on the offensive side of the ball
- 32:17Speaker 4: before we switch to defense. R Elsea Jackson locked on Saints.
- 32:20Speaker 4: What he's saying a sports a dot net joining us
- 32:22Speaker 4: right now. Look as far as the receiver position, like
- 32:25Speaker 4: your frontline guys, like you know, everybody's like, oh you
- 32:27Speaker 4: need more help. Like these guys may not be elite,
- 32:29Speaker 4: but you know what they are, like a lave Shaheed Cooks.
- 32:32Speaker 4: If they can stay healthy, like, they'll be fine. I
- 32:34Speaker 4: want to know like the depth behind them, Like is
- 32:36Speaker 4: there a guy that you think maybe steps up behind
- 32:38Speaker 4: those three?
- 32:40Speaker 6: Yeah, I'm really curious about Cedric Wilson Junior. This year,
- 32:43Speaker 6: the last time that he was in a Kellen Moore
- 32:46Speaker 6: offense was his best season, over six hundred receiving yards
- 32:49Speaker 6: during that time. Took a lot of his snaps from
- 32:50Speaker 6: the slot, which I think could help elevate the speed
- 32:53Speaker 6: of guys like Chris olave Rashi Jhaheid and Brandon Cook's
- 32:56Speaker 6: getting to work a little bit more on the outside,
- 32:58Speaker 6: so I'm sure they'll also take snaps in the slot.
- 33:00Speaker 6: You got a little bit of an interchangeable, versatile room here,
- 33:03Speaker 6: but I think Cedric Wilson Junior would be somebody that
- 33:06Speaker 6: could contribute there pretty well. Good blocker as well, kind
- 33:08Speaker 6: of helps you expand your offensive line when he's in
- 33:10Speaker 6: the slot. I think Donovan Peoples shown this is another
- 33:14Speaker 6: one that I would absolutely watch, and he's been away
- 33:16Speaker 6: from the game, but he was super impressive during OTA's
- 33:19Speaker 6: mini camp. All that and again, a really really solid
- 33:22Speaker 6: blocker can contribute in the run game. I think the
- 33:24Speaker 6: run game is going to carry is going to be
- 33:26Speaker 6: the big focus on this offense because I don't think
- 33:28Speaker 6: you're going to put that much pressure on either one
- 33:30Speaker 6: of these quarterbacks to go out there and you be
- 33:33Speaker 6: the big focus of the offense. I think the run
- 33:35Speaker 6: game is going to be a big part of that,
- 33:36Speaker 6: and so I think you're looking at who can contribute
- 33:39Speaker 6: in that area of the game. I think bub Memes
- 33:40Speaker 6: kind of blends the kind of bridges the gap between
- 33:43Speaker 6: the guys that can be physical but that also have
- 33:45Speaker 6: top end speed like Chris Alavey, reci To Heat and
- 33:48Speaker 6: Brandon Cooks, and so I think those six guys make
- 33:50Speaker 6: a lot of sense to me. But players like Mason
- 33:52Speaker 6: Tipton and Dante Pettis also make a lot of sense.
- 33:55Speaker 6: Kevin Austin Junior was in this offense.
- 33:57Speaker 7: They've got a couple of.
- 33:57Speaker 6: Undrafted free agent guys as well, so they have a
- 33:59Speaker 6: lot of ops and to look at at the position.
- 34:02Speaker 6: But I think when you have your top three guys
- 34:05Speaker 6: being those speed threat guys, those deep threat guys, I
- 34:08Speaker 6: think finding the other filling out the room with the
- 34:10Speaker 6: other physical players I think makes a lot of sense.
- 34:14Speaker 3: Well.
- 34:14Speaker 5: Shifting over to the defensive side of the ball. Real quick.
- 34:17Speaker 4: Obviously, you know, the cornerback position is one that everybody's watching.
- 34:22Speaker 4: There's a lot of uncertainty there. And then you you've
- 34:25Speaker 4: heard all all season long, like the name of Sante
- 34:27Speaker 4: Samuel Junior keeps popping up, like is there any sort
- 34:30Speaker 4: of update on him? And if the Saints can't land him,
- 34:32Speaker 4: what does that room look like without it?
- 34:34Speaker 6: Yeah, I don't necessarily have an update on him, and
- 34:37Speaker 6: we haven't really heard any things about him, but we
- 34:39Speaker 6: do know that, you know, there are a lot of
- 34:41Speaker 6: teams that are interested that at least have shown some
- 34:43Speaker 6: interest and everything, and the you know, Miami Dolphins feel
- 34:47Speaker 6: like a pretty natural spot after having traded away Jalen Ramsey,
- 34:50Speaker 6: even though a Sante Samuel Junior's dad, a Sante Sanuel Senior,
- 34:54Speaker 6: kind of you know, laid in about, you know, the
- 34:56Speaker 6: Dolphins organization and everything like that. So we'll see where
- 34:59Speaker 6: things go. But I think even if they don't land
- 35:02Speaker 6: a Sante Daniel Junior, that the Saints are in a
- 35:04Speaker 6: pretty good place when it comes to their cornerback room.
- 35:06Speaker 6: It's just a little unproven, right. It's a lot of
- 35:08Speaker 6: young players, and so I think you'd be looking at
- 35:10Speaker 6: Kulaid mcintry and Alonte Taylor as your locks. They're probably
- 35:14Speaker 6: you're starting to on the outside when they're in base sets,
- 35:17Speaker 6: so when there's only two cornerbacks on the field, but
- 35:20Speaker 6: then when they shift to those nickel sets where you
- 35:22Speaker 6: get a third corner on the field, then I think
- 35:24Speaker 6: Alonta Taylor moves into the slot. And then the conversation
- 35:27Speaker 6: becomes between Quincy Riley, who was drafted this year out
- 35:30Speaker 6: of Louisville, who's got that ballwalking, turnover production type of resume,
- 35:34Speaker 6: and then Isaac Gadam, who was outstanding with New Orleans
- 35:37Speaker 6: the last and then he was here in twenty twenty three.
- 35:39Speaker 6: That the conversation comes becomes between those two guys, but
- 35:42Speaker 6: who plays opposite Kulaid mcintry on the outside. And then
- 35:45Speaker 6: I think Rico Payton is the guy to keep an
- 35:46Speaker 6: eye out on because he makes the roster somebody that
- 35:49Speaker 6: has both a really strong, you know history already with
- 35:53Speaker 6: New Orleans both in defensive production during his preseason last year,
- 35:57Speaker 6: but also is one of your top gunners on spec
- 36:00Speaker 6: teams as a punt gunner, and that's an important metric
- 36:02Speaker 6: or important you know spot to fill opposite J. T. Gray,
- 36:05Speaker 6: and so I think maybe those five guys, and honestly,
- 36:08Speaker 6: I think if you sign a Sante Sine junior, then
- 36:10Speaker 6: you just end up keeping six corners in that way,
- 36:12Speaker 6: because I don't think as Sante Segni Junior necessarily leaps
- 36:14Speaker 6: any of those five guys in terms of they're the
- 36:17Speaker 6: way that they contribute, but I think could be additive
- 36:19Speaker 6: to them and certainly would be a good, you know,
- 36:21Speaker 6: depth piece to have behind Alante Taylor in that star role,
- 36:25Speaker 6: which is going to kind of elevate his kind of
- 36:27Speaker 6: disruptive game style play style on the inside when he's
- 36:31Speaker 6: in the slot under Brandon Staley and Sante sem Juni
- 36:33Speaker 6: has played that position before, so I think that's probably
- 36:35Speaker 6: where he would most immediately fit in, though of course
- 36:37Speaker 6: he could if signed, earn a much larger role than
- 36:40Speaker 6: that as well.
- 36:42Speaker 4: Ross Obviously, you know, we started this interview talking Tyler
- 36:46Speaker 4: Shock Spencer Rattler, So as far as rookies go, like, yes,
- 36:49Speaker 4: Shuck's going to have the spotlight on him, but outside
- 36:52Speaker 4: of Tyler Shock, maybe like another rookie the Saints brought in,
- 36:55Speaker 4: and it could be a draft it could be an
- 36:56Speaker 4: undrafted guy like is there a rookie you're keeping an
- 36:59Speaker 4: eye on.
- 37:00Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean Kelvin Banks Junior should should be brought
- 37:03Speaker 6: up in this conversation. For certain, He's a rookie starter
- 37:06Speaker 6: at left tackle, which depending upon who you ask, is
- 37:08Speaker 6: the second most important position in football, as the blind
- 37:11Speaker 6: side protector for either of these quarterbacks unless one hundred
- 37:14Speaker 6: Deckers is playing, then all of a sudden, you know,
- 37:16Speaker 6: it becomes the outisite side is the left handed guy,
- 37:18Speaker 6: but under the under the circumstances of who's the most
- 37:21Speaker 6: likely to be the starting quarterback for Neil Orleans, Yeah,
- 37:23Speaker 6: I think Kelvin Banks Junior is the guy that kind
- 37:25Speaker 6: of gets the focal point outside of Tyler Shuck. I
- 37:30Speaker 6: think the other guy to keep an eye out on, though,
- 37:31Speaker 6: that's going to be really interesting, is Danny Stutsman, linebacker
- 37:35Speaker 6: coming out of Oklahoma, one of the best rated linebackers
- 37:37Speaker 6: in this year's draft bass off ball linebackers in this
- 37:39Speaker 6: year's raft class, and comes in and is able to
- 37:44Speaker 6: maybe earn that kind of third linebacker role, although I
- 37:47Speaker 6: think the fi suol is going to be really hard
- 37:48Speaker 6: to push out of that area. But then what happens
- 37:51Speaker 6: if he hits the field at some point because of
- 37:54Speaker 6: you know, injury or somebody's got to tie a shoe
- 37:56Speaker 6: or something like that. How hard is it going to
- 37:58Speaker 6: be to keep him off the field. He's a great leader,
- 38:01Speaker 6: very vocal guy, very active and athletic player, confrons of
- 38:05Speaker 6: so Al America and all these other pieces. Like, I
- 38:07Speaker 6: think he's probably one of those one of the most
- 38:11Speaker 6: interesting additional players to watch that maybe won't step into
- 38:15Speaker 6: a starting role week one because there's only gonna be
- 38:17Speaker 6: two off ball linebacker spots of this defense to start,
- 38:20Speaker 6: but throughout the season, I think the spotlight will just
- 38:23Speaker 6: grow brighter and brighter on him as a potential future
- 38:27Speaker 6: piece to this you know, starting linebacker room.
- 38:29Speaker 4: Before you, Jenna here, let me ask you about one
- 38:31Speaker 4: more rookie. I'm glad you brought up Danny Stutzman, Like
- 38:33Speaker 4: he's a guy that I'm certainly keeping my eye on. Look,
- 38:37Speaker 4: you bring in Justin Reid in the offseason. You already
- 38:39Speaker 4: have Tyron there, you already have Jordan Holden there. But
- 38:41Speaker 4: like I keep hearing so much about Jonah Sanker and
- 38:44Speaker 4: his potential, Like, what do you what do you like
- 38:45Speaker 4: about Sanker? You think he has a legitimate role on
- 38:48Speaker 4: this team this season.
- 38:50Speaker 6: Yeah, I think he could because of the fact that
- 38:52Speaker 6: he can play in so many different areas and that
- 38:54Speaker 6: you can deploy him in so many different ways. He
- 38:56Speaker 6: can play in the slot, he can play deep, he
- 38:58Speaker 6: can play down in the box, he can the middle
- 39:00Speaker 6: of the field. There's so many different things that you
- 39:02Speaker 6: can do with him, So he becomes this really interesting
- 39:05Speaker 6: kind of, you know, defensive chess piece in a way.
- 39:08Speaker 6: I don't want to compare him to tast them hill,
- 39:10Speaker 6: but like there's such an urge to do that because
- 39:13Speaker 6: you could just kind of move him around and use
- 39:15Speaker 6: him in three or four different places. But I think
- 39:17Speaker 6: that because of that, where he becomes most helpful and
- 39:19Speaker 6: where he kind of earns his role probably from the
- 39:21Speaker 6: beginning is dime packages. Being able to get him out
- 39:24Speaker 6: on the field when you need six Dyv's defensive back,
- 39:27Speaker 6: and of course when there is an injury, and so
- 39:30Speaker 6: the opportunity to be able to kind of plug and
- 39:32Speaker 6: play him anywhere, I think is what makes him so valuable.
- 39:36Speaker 6: And then he'll grow into probably a more focus role
- 39:39Speaker 6: after that. But I think he was such a smart
- 39:41Speaker 6: investment by this New Orleans Saints defense this New Orleans
- 39:44Speaker 6: Saints team, just knowing their history and knowing that, like
- 39:47Speaker 6: there's players at those positions that might not be on
- 39:49Speaker 6: the roster next year, and so you get a guy
- 39:51Speaker 6: that can plug into a bunch of different places. I
- 39:53Speaker 6: think there's real value there.
- 39:54Speaker 4: We're also Jackson locked on saying you can catch the
- 39:57Speaker 4: stuff there. Also read his articles at Louisiana Sports dot

- 42:40Speaker 5: But I'm here with you.

- 42:46Speaker 4: for Ralter Jackson's time Locked on Saints louisinosports dot Net
- 42:52Speaker 4: just hopped on with us break down all things New
- 42:54Speaker 4: Orleans Saints training camp. I was gonna hit something regarding
- 42:58Speaker 4: Ella's shoe here. I want to spend a little bit
- 43:01Speaker 4: more time on it, so we're gonna push that to
- 43:03Speaker 4: probably nine thirty. Also, I saw a comment in the
- 43:07Speaker 4: YouTube chat when me and Ross were talking about Tyler Shock,
- 43:11Speaker 4: and I knew it was coming because it happens every
- 43:14Speaker 4: time you talk about Tyler Shock's success his last year
- 43:17Speaker 4: in college. Well, it's easy for Tyler Shock to have
- 43:21Speaker 4: success in college. He's twenty five years old playing against
- 43:24Speaker 4: nineteen and twenty year olds. That is just such a
- 43:28Speaker 4: bad argument. First off, you're a grown man when you
- 43:31Speaker 4: are twenty years old. Being twenty five playing against twenty
- 43:34Speaker 4: year olds is a lot different than being eighteen nineteen
- 43:36Speaker 4: in high school playing against fourteen year olds. Let's get
- 43:38Speaker 4: that out of the way right now. Like we pick
- 43:42Speaker 4: and choose so much about who we're going to throw
- 43:45Speaker 4: that out there, Like, okay, you remember back in twenty
- 43:48Speaker 4: twenty three, Jaden Daniels Bownix, they were battling for the
- 43:51Speaker 4: Heisman all year long. Michael pennocks in there as well,
- 43:54Speaker 4: what did you hear? Oh, Man, bo Nicks is old,
- 43:57Speaker 4: he's been in college forever, Like, of course he's gonna
- 43:59Speaker 4: be good.
- 43:59Speaker 5: How can you get him the Heisman trophy?
- 44:01Speaker 6: Man?
- 44:01Speaker 4: Michael Pennock has been in college forever. How can you
- 44:03Speaker 4: give him a Heisman trophy? Like I love Jaydon Daniels.
- 44:06Speaker 4: I'm as big of an LSU fans as I am,
- 44:08Speaker 4: but like I can also kind of see the hypocrisy
- 44:11Speaker 4: go on that. Like just checked, Bonicks is eight months
- 44:14Speaker 4: older than Jayden Daniels. They're essentially the same age. Michael
- 44:18Speaker 4: Pinnock's same age as.
- 44:19Speaker 5: Both of them.
- 44:19Speaker 4: Like nobody said it about Jayden. You're gonna bring it
- 44:22Speaker 4: up about Tyler Shuck Bownicks and all that. Like that's
- 44:25Speaker 4: that's where you lose me, because I don't think it matters.
- 44:28Speaker 4: Like most of the quarterbacks in college have success their
- 44:30Speaker 4: fifth year Dylan Gabriel just let Oklahoma of Organs of
- 44:34Speaker 4: the number one ranking and the number one seed in
- 44:36Speaker 4: the College Football Playoff. He was a fifth year guy.
- 44:39Speaker 4: Joe Burrow came here, he broke all kinds of records.
- 44:41Speaker 4: He was a fifth year guy. Jayden was a fifth
- 44:43Speaker 4: year guy. His Heisman season. I just mentioned Bonicks, Michael Penix.
- 44:46Speaker 4: They were first round picks, like they were fifty year guys.
- 44:49Speaker 4: Like it doesn't matter, Like I get it. You can
- 44:50Speaker 4: go look and be like, Tyler Schuck had seven years
- 44:52Speaker 4: of college football, eh, I mean he played thirty games
- 44:55Speaker 4: in eighteen. I mean he was hurt and you can say, oh,
- 44:58Speaker 4: he had one really good year. Maybe we we really
- 45:00Speaker 4: don't know. The only other extended action we saw from
- 45:03Speaker 4: Tyler Schuck was twenty twenty when he was at at
- 45:06Speaker 4: Oregon his second year in school. Fifteen hundred yards, thirteen touchdowns,
- 45:10Speaker 4: six interceptions. After that he played and that was seven games.
- 45:14Speaker 4: He played four games, got injured, six touchdowns, three picks,
- 45:17Speaker 4: seven games, got injured, four games again, got injured.
- 45:20Speaker 5: We really don't know. So all this talk about oh.
- 45:23Speaker 4: Well Pinix, I mean, Tyler Schuck's twenty five years old,
- 45:26Speaker 4: of course he's gonna be Good's to say he wasn't
- 45:27Speaker 4: gonna be good. Everything else like sixty two twenty three touchdown,
- 45:30Speaker 4: six picks, that's a fishing, but like, take the h
- 45:33Speaker 4: thing out of it.
- 45:33Speaker 5: First, he's a quarterback. It doesn't really matter how old
- 45:35Speaker 5: he is.
