Transcript
- 0:02Speaker 1: Look at you guys.
- 0:04Speaker 2: Wow, would each of you like to tell us what
- 0:07Speaker 2: you're wearing today? A Jyears is pretty timely. We're gonna
- 0:11Speaker 2: talk about him later in the show since he's coming back.
- 0:14Speaker 2: And would you say that Adley Rutchman was the biggest
- 0:18Speaker 2: trade headline acquisition. We don't know what it's going to
- 0:19Speaker 2: look like after the fact, but the biggest name that moved.
- 0:24Speaker 3: I mean school Oh sorry, biggest biggest position player name
- 0:29Speaker 3: for sure. I mean obviously he's supposed to catch today
- 0:32Speaker 3: in Toronto for the Red Sox. So it feels like
- 0:35Speaker 3: this made sense to wear today.
- 0:37Speaker 1: Mm hmm, it does fout.
- 0:38Speaker 2: Territory shop dot com has that shirt and Kratz, what
- 0:41Speaker 2: do you have for us?
- 0:42Speaker 4: It felt like it made sense to wear the Adley shirt.
- 0:45Speaker 4: But you know what, Bryce had a little day off.
- 0:48Speaker 4: You know, there's there's other news that has to happen
- 0:51Speaker 4: to and you know what, maybe Adley knows the four
- 0:55Speaker 4: out rule.
- 0:56Speaker 1: Yep, it's a fun Bryce animated shirt. Very nice.
- 0:59Speaker 2: On the topic of the Orioles, we had Dan Duquette
- 1:02Speaker 2: on Monday's show, former Orioles general manager, wanted to defend
- 1:07Speaker 2: himself and I thought it was a good segment.
- 1:10Speaker 1: We have a reply to the reply.
- 1:13Speaker 2: Jacob Calvin Meyer put out the article and wanted to
- 1:17Speaker 2: make it known that the article was not about Dan Duquette.
- 1:19Speaker 2: It was just a one liner in there. So he
- 1:22Speaker 2: replied to the tweet from foul Territory that said, quote,
- 1:27Speaker 2: it really wasn't a mess because the team had a
- 1:29Speaker 2: lot of good players that they could use for a foundation.
- 1:31Speaker 2: This was Dan Duquette on our show, pushing back against
- 1:34Speaker 2: the narrative that they left the team in disarray. Also
- 1:37Speaker 2: just me commenting for a second, it's been eight years.
- 1:40Speaker 2: You can't use that blame. But let's go to Jacob
- 1:42Speaker 2: Calvin Meyer here. He said, I'd like to thank Dan
- 1:45Speaker 2: Duquette for being a loyal reader of the Baltimore Sun
- 1:47Speaker 2: and for the new nickname. J C. Meyer has a
- 1:49Speaker 2: nice ring to it. I agree the article he's upset
- 1:52Speaker 2: about wasn't about him, but Duquette's tenure in Baltimore was
- 1:56Speaker 2: a success and he should be remembered fondly by fans.
- 2:00Speaker 2: I thought that was an appropriate reply, AJ to be like, dude,
- 2:03Speaker 2: not going after you. I did put one thing in there,
- 2:06Speaker 2: and Duqutt had a.
- 2:08Speaker 1: Reply to it.
- 2:10Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I thought they. I mean, listen, Dukett
- 2:13Speaker 3: defended himself and he should have. He felt like people
- 2:16Speaker 3: were attacking him and he wanted to give his side
- 2:19Speaker 3: of the story. I have no problem with what he said.
- 2:21Speaker 3: And then he came on our show and kind of
- 2:23Speaker 3: elaborated on what he meant by what he said. So
- 2:26Speaker 3: and then Jacob Calvin said it wasn't meant to be
- 2:29Speaker 3: about him, but how could it not be about him
- 2:32Speaker 3: if he was the GM before Mike Elias got there.
- 2:34Speaker 3: So that's why I mean, this was handled appropriately by
- 2:38Speaker 3: all sides. And now we hopefully the Orioles can move
- 2:41Speaker 3: on and try to get a playoff spot.
- 2:44Speaker 1: M hm, right, they're in the mix. Okay, let's try
- 2:49Speaker 1: to do something.
- 2:51Speaker 4: One more thing hold on before we go to this.
- 2:53Speaker 3: And by the way, and as much as Duquet yesterday
- 2:56Speaker 3: said what he needed to say, Dan duqutt and always
- 2:58Speaker 3: get Dan and Jim because we have there's too many
- 3:00Speaker 3: do cats in baseball, I get them confused, right, Jim Dan?
- 3:05Speaker 3: Tiger fans are attacking me on Twitter. If you haven't
- 3:08Speaker 3: seen my Twitter, they think that I hate the Tigers.
- 3:10Speaker 3: I do not hate the Tigers. Okay, sorry, I should
- 3:13Speaker 3: not have singled out the Tigers and what I meant
- 3:15Speaker 3: by that as any team. It just happened to be
- 3:16Speaker 3: the Tigers who we showed. And I like the Tigers.
- 3:19Speaker 3: I love Aj Hinch, I love Scott Harris. I think
- 3:21Speaker 3: they're also what they do okay, so let me just
- 3:23Speaker 3: say that. But I also think that it's not a
- 3:26Speaker 3: good president for baseball for any team that sells to
- 3:28Speaker 3: go make the playoffs. I hope the Tigers do it.
- 3:31Speaker 3: I hope their players play their asses off. I hope
- 3:33Speaker 3: they kick ass. Do I think they're going to catch
- 3:35Speaker 3: the White Sox. No, that's what everyone says. Oh you're
- 3:38Speaker 3: scared of them catching the White Sox. Absolutely not. But
- 3:41Speaker 3: here's the thing. I think it is a bad precedent,
- 3:44Speaker 3: or maybe it's a good president if they make the
- 3:46Speaker 3: playoffs after selling everyone, because it shows that a quote
- 3:49Speaker 3: lower market team can do things. And again, as we've
- 3:53Speaker 3: learned through different people, just making the playoffs is enough,
- 3:56Speaker 3: not actually trying to win the World Series.
- 3:58Speaker 4: Just make the playoffs.
- 3:59Speaker 3: All the fan bases are happy, no matter how many
- 4:02Speaker 3: times so Tiger fans. It was not a personal attack
- 4:05Speaker 3: on you. It was just the example because of these
- 4:08Speaker 3: teams that are listed here. The Tigers were the team
- 4:11Speaker 3: that sold the most of the Rangers, the Twins, the Guardians.
- 4:14Speaker 4: I mean, we can get into.
- 4:15Speaker 3: The Blue Jays and Orioles, but we really think they're
- 4:16Speaker 3: gonna get there, no, right, So they're the ones that
- 4:19Speaker 3: are the closest. So they're the ones that I use
- 4:21Speaker 3: in this example. So Tiger fans and players and coaches
- 4:24Speaker 3: and front office and managers and everything. Pause, I am
- 4:27Speaker 3: so sorry that I singled your team out.
- 4:31Speaker 1: Wow, that was heartfelt. Can I add to that?
- 4:34Speaker 2: So you know how some are obsessed with run differential
- 4:38Speaker 2: and then I hate it to the highest degree. Do
- 4:41Speaker 2: you know where the Tigers are at with run differential?
- 4:43Speaker 2: And it was that a healthy number at the trade
- 4:44Speaker 2: deadline too, plus eighty seven plus eighty seven run differential.
- 4:49Speaker 2: Expected record for that run differential would be sixty eight
- 4:52Speaker 2: and fifty. They are fifty eight and sixty. Everybody else
- 4:56Speaker 2: they're kind of in the same range with is nicely
- 4:59Speaker 2: into the next negatives, right, Rangers, Twins, Guardians, Orioles, Mariners,
- 5:04Speaker 2: blue Jays, they all have negative run differential, and then
- 5:06Speaker 2: the Tigers are worlds ahead in run differential. AJ, I'm
- 5:10Speaker 2: not saying they shouldn't have traded Terrek Skouble. But if
- 5:13Speaker 2: we're going by a stat that many are obsessed with,
- 5:17Speaker 2: they should be sixty eight and fifty. So they should
- 5:19Speaker 2: look at the rest of the season like, damn, we're
- 5:20Speaker 2: one of the best teams in baseball? Why did we sell?
- 5:26Speaker 2: You can't say anything because he already said his piece.
- 5:29Speaker 4: He's already made peace. He's already made peace. People love
- 5:33Speaker 4: aj he killed you as a White Sox, but love
- 5:36Speaker 4: him now as a bipartisan analyst for Fox one. I don't.
- 5:45Speaker 3: I mean, listen, here's the thing. I mean, run differential great.
- 5:47Speaker 3: That means they win a lot of blowouts, but they
- 5:49Speaker 3: lose a lot of close games. It usually means you
- 5:50Speaker 3: don't have a very good bullpen. So I mean, we
- 5:53Speaker 3: talked about it yesterday. I mean, I don't know what
- 5:57Speaker 3: else I can say. I'm sorry that I singled out
- 5:59Speaker 3: Tiger fans. They made a run in twenty four after
- 6:02Speaker 3: they got rid of Flaarherty and Chafin and Canaan and
- 6:05Speaker 3: they got to the postseason. But the thing that got
- 6:08Speaker 3: me was they think they're a better team now without
- 6:11Speaker 3: Schooble and Casey Mice on their team than they were before.
- 6:14Speaker 3: I'm sorry, you're not a better team. Okay, you might
- 6:17Speaker 3: still make the postseason. That'd be awesome, But do you
- 6:20Speaker 3: think you have a better chance if you have schoobl
- 6:22Speaker 3: and Casey Mice and your team to win a World Series?
- 6:24Speaker 3: Because as a player, the ultimate goal, and I can
- 6:28Speaker 3: only speak as a player, I've never worked in the
- 6:29Speaker 3: front office. I've never was a manager, I've never been
- 6:32Speaker 3: a coach. I've just only been a player. Okay, so
- 6:34Speaker 3: you can hold that against me. But the ultimate goal
- 6:38Speaker 3: every year that I went to spring training and tried
- 6:40Speaker 3: to play baseball was not to make the playoffs, because
- 6:43Speaker 3: the playoffs are cool, yes, but it was to win
- 6:46Speaker 3: the World Series. And so if Tiger fans legitimately think
- 6:49Speaker 3: they're a better team if they make the postseason without
- 6:52Speaker 3: school Ble and without Mice, and they think they have
- 6:54Speaker 3: a better shot to win the World Series, and you
- 6:56Speaker 3: know what, let's go Tigers.
- 6:58Speaker 1: Yeah, that's where you lose me.
- 7:00Speaker 2: I've gotten into some arguments like that where people start
- 7:03Speaker 2: crapping on some of the top players in baseball. I
- 7:06Speaker 2: did plenty of that last week, where people told me
- 7:08Speaker 2: that terror scoopl was not good and you know what
- 7:11Speaker 2: last night, he was just Okay, we'll get to that.
- 7:13Speaker 2: Let's start with counting charge about a one, A, two, A, three,
- 7:21Speaker 2: A four, four outs in a baseball game, Red Sox,
- 7:25Speaker 2: Blue Jays. I don't even know if I'm the guy
- 7:28Speaker 2: to start to describe this. Besides the fact that AJ
- 7:31Speaker 2: we had the wrong number of outs placed on the scoreboard,
- 7:35Speaker 2: which is run by Major League Baseball. It's not like
- 7:37Speaker 2: a team thing trying to rig this system. This happened
- 7:40Speaker 2: in Toronto. John Schneider was flipping out because the Orioles, sorry,
- 7:43Speaker 2: the Red Sox ended up getting a run out of
- 7:45Speaker 2: this despite neither of their base runners knowing how many outs.
- 7:49Speaker 2: So Saddan rafaela pop up turns into an RBI even
- 7:54Speaker 2: though we thought the inning was over because the screen
- 7:57Speaker 2: said two outs, there was only one out. So your
- 8:00Speaker 2: thoughts on how all of this resulted and the fifteen
- 8:04Speaker 2: minute delay during that game while they chatted with New
- 8:07Speaker 2: York City and the command center about.
- 8:09Speaker 4: It, here's going first, merecrats you.
- 8:14Speaker 3: Okay, First of all, I did not know this rule,
- 8:17Speaker 3: So I'm glad this happened because now I know this
- 8:19Speaker 3: rule and anyone maybe there's somebody maybe Crofts knew this rule,
- 8:22Speaker 3: but I've never heard of this rule, and so I
- 8:24Speaker 3: would have not known what was happening on the field.
- 8:28Speaker 3: And I don't think a lot of the players coaches.
- 8:29Speaker 3: I mean, I guess somebody knew the rule, and umpire
- 8:32Speaker 3: Chad Tracy maybe knew the rule. But the scoreboard had
- 8:36Speaker 3: two outs, Okay, now there had only been there had
- 8:38Speaker 3: been one out and two base runners.
- 8:40Speaker 4: No one had scored. It hadn't been that long of
- 8:42Speaker 4: an ending.
- 8:42Speaker 3: How does every person on the field umpires play. I
- 8:45Speaker 3: guess the umpires knew the rule, players, base runners, coaches
- 8:50Speaker 3: not know there was only one out at this point.
- 8:53Speaker 3: That's the part that I don't understand, even if it
- 8:55Speaker 3: says to us. I know, when I was catching, there's
- 8:56Speaker 3: many times I'd look up and say to the umpire
- 8:58Speaker 3: behind me, how many els are there? Because I only
- 9:00Speaker 3: got one out? But it says two outs on the scoreboard,
- 9:03Speaker 3: where are we at here? And you'd stop it and
- 9:05Speaker 3: they go and they'd say, okay, we only have one out,
- 9:07Speaker 3: and you're like okay, and then they'd hand up their
- 9:08Speaker 3: hand and go one out, or they get on the
- 9:10Speaker 3: microphone and I will say this about Chris Guccioni, who
- 9:12Speaker 3: was the umpire last night. He did an outstanding job
- 9:15Speaker 3: of explaining what was actually happening. Multiple times he got
- 9:18Speaker 3: on the microphone, which I wish we had more of.
- 9:20Speaker 3: So guccu did an awesome job as an umpire and
- 9:23Speaker 3: as somebody explaining because I was watching this live and
- 9:25Speaker 3: I had to rewind it and say, Okay, can I
- 9:27Speaker 3: see this again because I don't know what's going on.
- 9:29Speaker 3: The Other part of this is John Schneider came out
- 9:32Speaker 3: and said, oh, well, not everyone was off the field,
- 9:34Speaker 3: but if they showed the behind the home plate, they
- 9:36Speaker 3: all got off the field and nobody realized it until
- 9:39Speaker 3: it was too late, and then it was too late
- 9:41Speaker 3: for them to appeal, so the run counted even though
- 9:43Speaker 3: he didn't tag up. I didn't know this rule. It's
- 9:46Speaker 3: cool to see it happened and play out because you
- 9:49Speaker 3: learned something, But how do you not know how many
- 9:52Speaker 3: outs are? I mean, we all forget at a time,
- 9:54Speaker 3: but everybody on the field to forget that was pretty epic.
- 9:57Speaker 2: I know this is a busy time of year for
- 9:59Speaker 2: many of you, including AJ. When you're home, you need
- 10:02Speaker 2: everything to get done fast with quality.

- 10:54Speaker 2: Foul fifty off Factor Meals dot Com. See website for
- 10:57Speaker 2: more details.
- 10:58Speaker 4: Yeah, they're just leaning on the scoreboard which said two outs.
- 11:01Speaker 4: Even the pitcher and catcher, base runners, everybody, third base coach,
- 11:05Speaker 4: even Eppie was a third and he was just you know,
- 11:07Speaker 4: he was taking the helmet. He was like, good, waituh,
- 11:10Speaker 4: what I did know this rule. And the only reason
- 11:14Speaker 4: I can prove that I know this rule was because
- 11:17Speaker 4: on MLB dot Com, AJ texted our thread and it
- 11:20Speaker 4: said new rule alert in the Red Sox game. So
- 11:25Speaker 4: I went to the Red Sox game and the only
- 11:27Speaker 4: video they had was the video of the flyball because
- 11:31Speaker 4: they were still in like deliberation or whatever the flyball
- 11:34Speaker 4: and seeing the runners run and they threw the ball
- 11:37Speaker 4: to first and that's when the video cut off. No commentary, nothing,
- 11:42Speaker 4: And I told my sons were there and I go,
- 11:44Speaker 4: I bet this is a four out rule and they
- 11:47Speaker 4: were like, what, There's no way there's such a thing.
- 11:50Speaker 4: So I love the fact that I knew this role.
- 11:53Speaker 4: I love the fact that I had no idea when
- 11:56Speaker 4: the play is actually dead though, because did everybody crossed
- 12:00Speaker 4: the line? Does that make the play? What if the
- 12:04Speaker 4: center fielder was still was still on the other side
- 12:08Speaker 4: of the line. Could he have taken the ball that
- 12:11Speaker 4: was rolled to the mound and gone and stepped on first?
- 12:15Speaker 4: Was he or gone and stepped on third? Was he
- 12:18Speaker 4: the only eligible player? I don't know, but I did
- 12:20Speaker 4: know the role. So it made me sleep really well
- 12:23Speaker 4: at night.
- 12:25Speaker 1: Wow, you're the rules expert.
- 12:26Speaker 4: Then I mean, I just knew this one. I knew it.
- 12:29Speaker 4: I've gotten others wrong. I knew it because it's a
- 12:32Speaker 4: timing play, and it's if you know the minutia of
- 12:35Speaker 4: the rule, like the very like timing plays are different
- 12:39Speaker 4: than automatic or they're not called non time, and I
- 12:43Speaker 4: forget exactly what they're even called. And so it just
- 12:46Speaker 4: it matters like when did the when was the out recorded?
- 12:49Speaker 4: Did they did they touch home plate before that? Like
- 12:52Speaker 4: those types of things. And I knew it fell in
- 12:54Speaker 4: whether I read it in the rule book or I
- 12:56Speaker 4: read it as an example, like would there ever be
- 13:00Speaker 4: four outs in an inning? And I remember reading it
- 13:02Speaker 4: and saying, that's crazy. How would that ever come up? There?
- 13:07Speaker 4: It is big league.
- 13:08Speaker 2: Games, And for any frustration that Blue Jays fans had,
- 13:12Speaker 2: it quickly went away. They won the game. The Red
- 13:15Speaker 2: Sox got a run, but that was the only run.
- 13:16Speaker 2: They lost two to one. Let's get John Schneider, blue
- 13:19Speaker 2: Jays manager, post game.
- 13:22Speaker 5: Before the out is recorded at first, the run counts. Now,
- 13:24Speaker 5: if we had just thrown a ball a third instead
- 13:26Speaker 5: of first, obviously different story. To my knowledge, Boston did
- 13:31Speaker 5: not challenge the time play. The inning was deemed to
- 13:35Speaker 5: be over. Charlie Ramos waved off the run, so everyone
- 13:40Speaker 5: assumed that that was that right, so we can appeal
- 13:44Speaker 5: that if if we stayed on the field to appeal
- 13:48Speaker 5: to third and then challenge the play where he didn't
- 13:51Speaker 5: tag up and that would have negated the run, and
- 13:54Speaker 5: no one was given that opportunity to do so based
- 13:57Speaker 5: on reaction from the four umpire players And yeah, it
- 14:03Speaker 5: was it was confusing first time for me, but I
- 14:06Speaker 5: think the rule is the rule, and it was just
- 14:11Speaker 5: tough because they didn't challenge the play initially. It happened
- 14:14Speaker 5: in the middle of an England Morne's coming into warm
- 14:16Speaker 5: up and I think players just react. Players and coaches
- 14:20Speaker 5: and managers react to what is being said to them.
- 14:23Speaker 4: Right.
- 14:23Speaker 5: So, after consulting with MLB, they told me that all
- 14:27Speaker 5: of my players were across the third base line before
- 14:31Speaker 5: before Charlie waved off the run, which I disagree with.
- 14:37Speaker 5: I don't know if that is that fast after he
- 14:39Speaker 5: got the ball at first, so we weren't given an
- 14:43Speaker 5: opportunity to appeal to third and going forward, when that
- 14:48Speaker 5: play happens again in the next one hundred years, if
- 14:51Speaker 5: it's us, we will record these meat out at third.
- 14:57Speaker 1: Sorry, everyone needs to stay on the field longer.
- 14:59Speaker 3: Now, everyone needs an how many outs are? At least
- 15:02Speaker 3: one person on the field needs an how many outser
- 15:05Speaker 3: I mean, and I'll say this, for most players, they
- 15:08Speaker 3: would have thought, and I guarantee you. I mean Kratz
- 15:10Speaker 3: is just apparently the only guy on earth that knows
- 15:12Speaker 3: this rules by the umpires, But every guy would have
- 15:16Speaker 3: thought the inning was over as soon as they got
- 15:18Speaker 3: the third out of third. They wouldn't even have worried
- 15:20Speaker 3: about going to third base because or at first, Sorry,
- 15:23Speaker 3: when they got the third out at first, everyone on
- 15:25Speaker 3: the field, I guarantee you ran off the field. Even
- 15:27Speaker 3: the umpire threw the ball to the mound and it
- 15:29Speaker 3: was on the mound. So as a player, you think, oh,
- 15:32Speaker 3: we got the third out, that run doesn't count because
- 15:34Speaker 3: he didn't tag up either, not thinking in your mind,
- 15:37Speaker 3: oh man, I gotta we gotta throw it to third.
- 15:39Speaker 3: So it's hard to blame anybody in this situation. It's
- 15:42Speaker 3: a once in a million years play that happened, and
- 15:46Speaker 3: everybody on the field screwed it up. Just a weird play.
- 15:50Speaker 3: There's no blame to go around. It was just to
- 15:52Speaker 3: screw up by the whole baseball.
- 15:53Speaker 4: Game, but by a day. On that play. Let's say
- 15:57Speaker 4: let's say the runner of third, was it see at third?
- 16:01Speaker 4: Anthony Siegler. I'm not sure who was, but anyway, he
- 16:04Speaker 4: was at third. If he had tagged up and scored,
- 16:08Speaker 4: you at catcher would have been doing what as that
- 16:10Speaker 4: ball is getting thrown in to Vlat at first, what
- 16:13Speaker 4: would you have been doing? No, because it wouldn't.
- 16:15Speaker 3: It would have changed the whole the whole rule of
- 16:17Speaker 3: the play because if he's out at first, it's a force.
- 16:21Speaker 3: So I'm just like, throw it to first because he's
- 16:23Speaker 3: out in the run, doesn't score.
- 16:25Speaker 4: No, But I'm saying, so it's a it's a fly
- 16:27Speaker 4: ball to center, just like it was. He's throwing it
- 16:30Speaker 4: to first and you're seeing, you're seeing the runner from
- 16:33Speaker 4: third coming home. What are you doing? Are you just like, hey, good,
- 16:36Speaker 4: you got him out at first, or are you looking
- 16:38Speaker 4: and being like no, no, no, he didn't score before
- 16:42Speaker 4: he does that out of the force. It's a force.
- 16:44Speaker 4: It doesn't happen. It's not a force. It's not a force.
- 16:47Speaker 4: It's he has to tag up or he's out. The runner.
- 16:51Speaker 4: I'm saying the runner at third tags up. If the
- 16:54Speaker 4: case was the runner a third tags up, the runner
- 16:57Speaker 4: at first did not tag up. If they lobb it
- 17:00Speaker 4: in to first and that runner at third tagged up
- 17:03Speaker 4: and he scores beforehand, you would be you would be like, oh, yeah,
- 17:08Speaker 4: that run scored if he If that ball is thrown
- 17:10Speaker 4: to first and it beats the runner back to or
- 17:12Speaker 4: it beats the runner that's going home, there that's a
- 17:16Speaker 4: timing play, you know what I'm talking about? Like, are
- 17:18Speaker 4: you sure that's right? Because I think that's still considered
- 17:20Speaker 4: a force now a hundred percent. It's the exact same
- 17:23Speaker 4: as like a runner on second who dogs it going
- 17:27Speaker 4: home and some of the batter runners the runners forced
- 17:31Speaker 4: at first. It's a timing play. Any sac fly is
- 17:35Speaker 4: a timing play.
- 17:38Speaker 3: Okay, I mean yeah, I would have I would have
- 17:41Speaker 3: still thought that since the runner at first is out,
- 17:43Speaker 3: doesn't matter when they guy on third scores, So okay
- 17:46Speaker 3: either way, Yeah, I mean, I I mean, I thought
- 17:50Speaker 3: I knew most of the rules, but apparently I don't
- 17:52Speaker 3: know these couple rules. But I always thought, if you
- 17:54Speaker 3: get the guy out at second or first, it doesn't
- 17:57Speaker 3: matter what the other guy does, because that guy still
- 17:59Speaker 3: has to tag up and out before the run scores.
- 18:02Speaker 4: No, not that. That's why it's considered one of the
- 18:07Speaker 4: timing plays.
- 18:07Speaker 2: Yeah know how many outs? AJ said he never knew.
- 18:15Speaker 2: He never didn't know how many outs. I think you
- 18:16Speaker 2: said the same thing. So we just had brain fart
- 18:19Speaker 2: city for twenty minutes, I guess because it was a
- 18:23Speaker 2: fifteen minute delay here to figure all of that out.
- 18:26Speaker 2: One footnote on that game too, Jameson Tyne pitched well,
- 18:29Speaker 2: it was a tight game, low scoring. Exited for him,
- 18:32Speaker 2: discomfort another Blue Jays arm unfortunately going down. We'll see
- 18:35Speaker 2: what the word is on him. I just want to
- 18:38Speaker 2: make sure we keep giving love to the Rays. They've
- 18:40Speaker 2: won seven in a row.
- 18:41Speaker 4: AJ.
- 18:41Speaker 2: They were down what six to two in the eighth inning,
- 18:43Speaker 2: and then they just poured it on in that inning,
- 18:46Speaker 2: ended up winning ten to six over the listless A's.
- 18:51Speaker 2: Maybe that's not the right word. I don't even know
- 18:52Speaker 2: what it means, but bad A's it is.
- 18:55Speaker 4: Were terrible.
- 18:56Speaker 3: I thought they would have actually have a shot at
- 18:58Speaker 3: playing for a UH playoff spot this year, and they
- 19:02Speaker 3: got off to usually they were really bad in the
- 19:04Speaker 3: beginning of the year, and they played really well in
- 19:06Speaker 3: the second half of the year. This year, they're just
- 19:07Speaker 3: they were pretty good in the beginning. They remember they
- 19:09Speaker 3: were in first place out in about June, and now
- 19:12Speaker 3: they just are awful. So yeah, I don't know what's
- 19:15Speaker 3: wrong with the age. I feel bad for marcottsee, but
- 19:17Speaker 3: you know they got rid of their GM though, so
- 19:20Speaker 3: that was that was cool.
- 19:21Speaker 4: I mean it looks like this is this is sponsored
- 19:23Speaker 4: by Keith and I think last year of the race
- 19:26Speaker 4: might have been affected by the heat a little bit
- 19:28Speaker 4: more little hydration that they might have needed. Like maybe
- 19:31Speaker 4: they weren't as bad as what they played because they
- 19:33Speaker 4: always had to be outside in that Florida heat.
- 19:37Speaker 1: Quints. But who's counting.
- 19:40Speaker 2: Liam Hicks has been awesome in a week of ball
- 19:44Speaker 2: for the race.
- 19:45Speaker 1: I think that's going to be a help having a
- 19:47Speaker 1: great year at the play.
- 19:48Speaker 3: Having a great year. If you haven't google his numbers
- 19:50Speaker 3: googles and his RBI totals off the charts. I mean,
- 19:53Speaker 3: he's he can hit, he's played a little first for him,
- 19:56Speaker 3: he can catch a little bit of DH's for him.
- 19:57Speaker 3: I mean he adds to Camonaro, Ronda and the rest
- 20:01Speaker 3: of that crew at the top of their order, which
- 20:03Speaker 3: they get a little more production from the bottom of
- 20:05Speaker 3: their order. They got some guys that need to step
- 20:07Speaker 3: up a little bit. But the Raiser are a good
- 20:09Speaker 3: team because they can pitch and they always figure out
- 20:11Speaker 3: a bullpen.
- 20:12Speaker 4: Is YONDI leading the league and hitting. I meant to
- 20:15Speaker 4: look it up before you get.
- 20:16Speaker 1: It up, he was, you have a phone, look it up.
- 20:21Speaker 1: Junior Camenara is thirty four homers. By the way.
- 20:24Speaker 2: Continuing on the Schoogle conversation for a moment here, Aldon
- 20:27Speaker 2: Gonzalez on the five innings that he went three runs
- 20:30Speaker 2: ninety five pitches, he said command was sorely lacking. This
- 20:33Speaker 2: is Alton Gonzales with the tweet of the sixteen Royals
- 20:35Speaker 2: hitters that Schoogle put in two strike counts, two singles,
- 20:38Speaker 2: two box, one hit by pitch, one home run, six strikeouts,
- 20:42Speaker 2: four batted ball outs. I mean, I don't know the
- 20:44Speaker 2: exact percentage of how much he's converting into outs or
- 20:47Speaker 2: strikeouts on two strikes, but it's definitely better than what
- 20:50Speaker 2: he put together last night.
- 20:51Speaker 1: So the two strike command wasn't what you would usually
- 20:53Speaker 1: see aj from Terrek Scoople.
- 20:57Speaker 3: I mean it was they still won the game, right,
- 20:59Speaker 3: So that's at the end of the day, that's kind
- 21:01Speaker 3: of what it's all about. Yeah, he hasn't been great,
- 21:05Speaker 3: he hasn't been perfect, but I mean he's switching a
- 21:07Speaker 3: new team. He switched teams for the first time in
- 21:09Speaker 3: his career. It's gonna take him a little bit. I'm
- 21:12Speaker 3: sure he was a little bit nervous early in that game. Uh,
- 21:15Speaker 3: probably a little bit hyped up to start in front
- 21:17Speaker 3: of his new home crowd. So I'm not making excuses
- 21:19Speaker 3: for Troch schoobl It's just one of those nights. He's
- 21:23Speaker 3: pitching against the Royals a lot and they still won
- 21:25Speaker 3: the game, So we'll see how it goes down the stretch.
- 21:29Speaker 4: I mean, it's crazy. He has made a lot of starts.
- 21:31Speaker 4: In those starts since twenty twenty, his team is five
- 21:35Speaker 4: and nine. Now, I guess the Tigers weren't always great
- 21:38Speaker 4: during that time, but five and nine he's got almost
- 21:41Speaker 4: a four era. I'm sure Schoobles. While he's not afraid
- 21:44Speaker 4: of any team, I'm sure he's like, come on, let's go,
- 21:48Speaker 4: let's get into the division he's stole. This is the
- 21:50Speaker 4: first time he's been to LA as a home player,
- 21:52Speaker 4: so he's slowly fitting into this. They don't really care
- 21:56Speaker 4: what he is. In the regular season.
- 22:01Speaker 2: Science experiment for the one minute, we have to tell
- 22:03Speaker 2: you about why we love Quint's electrolytes, including watermelon salt,
- 22:06Speaker 2: raspberry salt, and I'm holding a citrus salt, just opened
- 22:10Speaker 2: it and to pour some powder into my water.
- 22:12Speaker 1: Shake it up and AJ, why do you love it?
- 22:14Speaker 3: I love Quints because after a long night out, a
- 22:16Speaker 3: long day at the gym, a long walk in this
- 22:18Speaker 3: Florida humidity, it tastes great and it gives me all
- 22:21Speaker 3: the electrolytes I need. Why sugar free, Stevia free, keto
- 22:26Speaker 3: approve and taste sweet because of that delicious fermented rice.
- 22:32Speaker 2: It does taste really good. I'm drinking it right now
- 22:35Speaker 2: while we talking about it. It's also made in the USA,

- 23:01Speaker 2: season long if you want to play. It's like a
- 23:03Speaker 2: little game inside bet MGM's app where you can score
- 23:05Speaker 2: bonuses and tokens, like a fifty dollars bonus bet, depending
- 23:08Speaker 2: on if you get yourself. A hit could be a homer,
- 23:11Speaker 2: triple double single. Just don't get out. If you get out, well,
- 23:13Speaker 2: you can try again tomorrow. Gambling problem or concern called
- 23:16Speaker 2: one eight hundred gambler? Hey, what happened here? So the
- 23:26Speaker 2: Mets are on fire? It doesn't matter, They're way too
- 23:28Speaker 2: far out of it, but they did win a game.
- 23:30Speaker 2: Could I sena closed it out? Things are getting wild?
- 23:33Speaker 2: But the game was decided in the first inning. There
- 23:36Speaker 2: was a missed challenge. I could say it on two
- 23:40Speaker 2: fronts here. AJ one is originally I'm watching this play
- 23:44Speaker 2: out on social media in real time, which is the
- 23:46Speaker 2: healthy way to do it, of course, right, So originally
- 23:49Speaker 2: people are like, hey, Sean Murphy missed that right that
- 23:53Speaker 2: should have been turned into a potential strike them out,
- 23:55Speaker 2: throw them out. Then it's like, wait, hold on, Sean
- 23:57Speaker 2: Murphy's worried about the runner that's on Brycell and then
- 24:01Speaker 2: someone pops up on the screen, Bryce Elder actually calling
- 24:04Speaker 2: for a challenge pretty quickly.
- 24:06Speaker 1: And in this case, I think the umpire just missed it.
- 24:10Speaker 2: So ump misses it, it ends up turning into an
- 24:12Speaker 2: inning that continues and eventually nets the met's five runs.
- 24:18Speaker 3: Yeah, this is one of the problems we need to
- 24:21Speaker 3: We talked about this a little bit yesterday with the
- 24:23Speaker 3: Chris Sale rule. Need to have a little grace period.
- 24:26Speaker 3: If Bryce Older, I mean, he just threw a pitch,
- 24:30Speaker 3: He's getting out of the way of a throw from
- 24:31Speaker 3: his catcher, the catcher comes up, throws it down there,
- 24:34Speaker 3: He's not going to immediately tap his head, right. Bryce
- 24:37Speaker 3: Older clearly tapped his head at some point, Like the
- 24:40Speaker 3: umpires need to get together and say, you know what, Okay,
- 24:43Speaker 3: let's give it a little bit of gray speriod because
- 24:45Speaker 3: a lot of things are happening here and they didn't
- 24:47Speaker 3: do that. That's where people, I think get angry and
- 24:50Speaker 3: frustrated is if we just use common sense and yes,
- 24:53Speaker 3: I know there's a rule and you have to say
- 24:54Speaker 3: this rule or that rule and I'm not saying give
- 24:57Speaker 3: him a minute, but if it happens in the middle
- 24:59Speaker 3: of all this boom boom, this is one of the
- 25:01Speaker 3: biggest arguments I have against robot umps. And people say, oh,
- 25:04Speaker 3: robot MPs. And we've seen this happen this year already.
- 25:07Speaker 3: A guy thinks he's walked, right, but they challenge it
- 25:11Speaker 3: and it's actually strike three and the catcher throws it
- 25:13Speaker 3: down there and the guy's tagged out and he's called out. Right,
- 25:17Speaker 3: if it's a robot ump, we have to wait that
- 25:19Speaker 3: split second the catcher comes up. Let's say he throws
- 25:21Speaker 3: it into center field and the guy is you know,
- 25:25Speaker 3: it's not a walk, and then the guy gets to
- 25:27Speaker 3: go to third right, whereas the catcher if he knew
- 25:28Speaker 3: how many times scratch is a catcher? Did you hear
- 25:31Speaker 3: ball four? And you just ate it real quick, right,
- 25:33Speaker 3: You're like, oh, I don't need to throw this ball.
- 25:35Speaker 3: So because i'd always ask the umpire on three two, hey,
- 25:38Speaker 3: give me a really quick call here, so I know, like,
- 25:41Speaker 3: please give me the quickest call so I don't throw
- 25:43Speaker 3: this ball away and if he's going but yeah, it's
- 25:47Speaker 3: just common sense, like human decency, common sense, whatever, you
- 25:50Speaker 3: want to call it umpires, just think about it for
- 25:53Speaker 3: a second, get together and say, you know what, he
- 25:56Speaker 3: did tap his head in a timely fashion. There was
- 25:58Speaker 3: a lot happening. Can we go back and look at it.
- 26:00Speaker 3: But everyone has to say, oh, no, we didn't see it.
- 26:02Speaker 3: We didn't see it.
- 26:03Speaker 4: Someone saw it.
- 26:05Speaker 2: Yeah, it's going to be a problem in the playoffs
- 26:07Speaker 2: if that's the case and someone's like, oops, I missed it,
- 26:09Speaker 2: and it results in that like that was the game.
- 26:11Speaker 2: The game was decided in the first inning of that
- 26:13Speaker 2: matchup and creed. Some people online were like, well, Elder
- 26:16Speaker 2: has to like show it more. No he doesn't. He
- 26:19Speaker 2: went like this period that means challenge.
- 26:23Speaker 1: Here it is. We're watching, this is we get to
- 26:25Speaker 1: see it.
- 26:25Speaker 4: This is the pitch delivered.
- 26:27Speaker 2: I haven't even counted to one and he already tapped
- 26:29Speaker 2: his head. What else do you want him to do?
- 26:32Speaker 4: And that's a I mean, that's a good Like, this
- 26:34Speaker 4: is a perfect video. If you're not you got to
- 26:36Speaker 4: go back. If you're listening, you gotta go back and
- 26:38Speaker 4: watch the video because if you have to do it
- 26:40Speaker 4: sooner than that, you're cooked. But also at the end
- 26:43Speaker 4: of the video, watch the third first base umpire. I
- 26:46Speaker 4: think it's Adam Hamari is looking at the throw. In
- 26:49Speaker 4: a second, I think they're going to start talking to
- 26:52Speaker 4: umpires about, you know what you if you're not involved
- 26:56Speaker 4: in the play, Because the first base umpire has no
- 26:58Speaker 4: bearing on the runner stealing other than maybe some type
- 27:02Speaker 4: of obstruction interference of any kind, which never happens on
- 27:06Speaker 4: stolen bases. Maybe that's where they're gonna have to say,
- 27:09Speaker 4: you have to be watching that, like they have to
- 27:11Speaker 4: make the adjustment here because the umpire can't see it.
- 27:14Speaker 4: Sean Murphy's like six or five, he's standing up and
- 27:17Speaker 4: throwing down the second he's also making the call. It's
- 27:21Speaker 4: so hard for anybody to see that. So I get
- 27:24Speaker 4: that the human error is there, but like AJ said,
- 27:28Speaker 4: we need you to use some common sense too.
- 27:31Speaker 1: Mm hmm yeah.
- 27:32Speaker 2: Even I guess Bryce Elder postgame was saying I need
- 27:35Speaker 2: to be more demonstrative or something along those lines.
- 27:37Speaker 1: I guess.
- 27:38Speaker 2: But like now we're gonna have, you know, then then
- 27:40Speaker 2: guys are gonna be doing too much, and then the
- 27:42Speaker 2: umps are gonna get pissed off.
- 27:43Speaker 1: You're overdoing it, right, then.
- 27:45Speaker 3: You're gonna have Jeffery yawn out there jumping around and
- 27:48Speaker 3: doing splits like on strike threes.
- 27:50Speaker 4: So I mean, let's be careful what you wish for.
- 27:53Speaker 4: A kid did that. A kid did that in my
- 27:55Speaker 4: son's travel game the other day. I don't think the
- 27:58Speaker 4: kid ever pitched. Oh he got a strike out and
- 28:00Speaker 4: he did you know, he did the Jeffrey Young. I
- 28:02Speaker 4: don't think the kid ever pitched, and he was getting waffled,
- 28:04Speaker 4: so I think everybody laughed about it.
- 28:06Speaker 2: But fun well for the Mats. Yeah, Coode Sanga picked
- 28:12Speaker 2: up the save. Devin Williams on the ail By the way,
- 28:14Speaker 2: mensar irrelevant, So I'm not spending much time there. I
- 28:16Speaker 2: do want to just sneak in some He.
- 28:18Speaker 3: Did throw his ball into the stanza, which was always
- 28:20Speaker 3: pretty pretty funny.
- 28:21Speaker 1: That was funny. Is he supposed to keep it for him?
- 28:24Speaker 1: His first save, the first save?
- 28:26Speaker 4: Yeah, you'd want that. Why would you not want that?
- 28:27Speaker 4: That's kind of cool. I got a big league save.
- 28:30Speaker 3: It's like a big league hit, big league win, big
- 28:32Speaker 3: league strike got I got my first pick.
- 28:33Speaker 4: You ever did that? Did you ever do that? Age?
- 28:35Speaker 4: Accidentally throw a ball away? That was like somebody's record
- 28:40Speaker 4: of some kind or something. No, but my dog.
- 28:42Speaker 3: Did he Jason Schmid's thousand strikeout ball or a hundred
- 28:45Speaker 3: win ball or something one time?
- 28:49Speaker 4: Oh, I don't have it.
- 28:50Speaker 3: There, Uh, but I did see one Yaribay. We turned
- 28:53Speaker 3: to triple play one time Minnesota and he threw the
- 28:55Speaker 3: ball in the stands. So we had to get it back.
- 28:56Speaker 3: So that was awkward. We had to ask the guy
- 28:58Speaker 3: for BACKA one didn't realize what he had just done.
- 29:01Speaker 3: So like Kwan, cool, but we need that ball back.
- 29:04Speaker 3: So we all had to go out there and you know,
- 29:06Speaker 3: I'll give you a bat or whatever for and got
- 29:08Speaker 3: was nice about it.
- 29:09Speaker 4: But it happened. It's happened.
- 29:13Speaker 1: That's good.
- 29:15Speaker 2: Some quick injury notes on the braves because there's a
- 29:18Speaker 2: lot to look at here. We can just rack these
- 29:21Speaker 2: few in a row and then we'll get the comment
- 29:23Speaker 2: on the back end from it. So first off for
- 29:28Speaker 2: and this is all pitching related. Walt White said he
- 29:31Speaker 2: can't count on Strider or Hurst and Waldrup pitching again
- 29:35Speaker 2: this year, but both well at least started throwing program
- 29:37Speaker 2: this week, and Mark Bowman from MLB said this at
- 29:41Speaker 2: least encouraging regarding the possibility of them being available next season.
- 29:45Speaker 2: Waldrip got multiple opinions regarding his elbow of the past
- 29:47Speaker 2: few weeks. A recent opinion led to the decision for
- 29:50Speaker 2: him to begin throwing this week. Stephen Colbert, a R Dude,
- 29:55Speaker 2: also replied to that and said Spencer Schwellenbach is still
- 29:59Speaker 2: not facing hitters, is pretty much ending that dream of
- 30:02Speaker 2: any sort of contribution in twenty six not impossible, increasingly unlikely.
- 30:05Speaker 2: All I shifted to Robert Suarez, who's been out almost
- 30:08Speaker 2: eight weeks now and apparently is still sore. And then
- 30:10Speaker 2: there was one more update this morning that involved Strider
- 30:15Speaker 2: and let's see who the other one was, and Waldrop
- 30:18Speaker 2: that they will begin throwing programs this week. As we've
- 30:21Speaker 2: seen with Schwellenbach, doesn't mean they're nearing a return, it's
- 30:23Speaker 2: at least encouraging that this next step is not surgery.
- 30:26Speaker 2: So these are some names that could be pretty big contributors.
- 30:29Speaker 2: And then the Braves have been fine and they're humming
- 30:30Speaker 2: along right now. Ever since Akunya came back, they're really
- 30:33Speaker 2: humming along, putting together wins, but just talking about some
- 30:37Speaker 2: potential returns for them. We might do a segment later
- 30:40Speaker 2: this week on guys that could come back for teams
- 30:42Speaker 2: and how it could impact them. Of course, Aaron Judge
- 30:45Speaker 2: is an easy one, but these are some pretty good
- 30:46Speaker 2: names AJA that suddenly not suddenly, but might not be
- 30:50Speaker 2: a part of the mix for the rest of the year.
- 30:52Speaker 3: I mean, have they been counting on them though? I
- 30:54Speaker 3: mean the Braves. I don't think the Braves have been
- 30:56Speaker 3: really counting on them. They knew this internally. Now they're
- 30:58Speaker 3: just saying it publicly. They know where they know where
- 31:01Speaker 3: everyone stands internally. I mean, trust me, as players, you're
- 31:03Speaker 3: always like, hey, you see somebody if they show up
- 31:06Speaker 3: at the park, like hey, when you're coming back, you're
- 31:08Speaker 3: coming back.
- 31:08Speaker 4: There's a lot of hey, you're not coming back this year, Okay, cool,
- 31:12Speaker 4: see you next year.
- 31:12Speaker 3: Seeing spring training, I mean, in my wrong crowds, it's
- 31:14Speaker 3: like people, if you're not part of the team. This
- 31:17Speaker 3: is why people say being on the injured list sucks
- 31:19Speaker 3: so bad, especially when you're on it for so long,
- 31:22Speaker 3: because if you're not part of the team, and this
- 31:24Speaker 3: sounds really bad, you're not treated like part of the team.
- 31:27Speaker 3: You're just not because there's guys that are grinding it.
- 31:29Speaker 3: Yes you're nice to the person, you say hi to them,
- 31:32Speaker 3: but you're not really part of the team because guys
- 31:34Speaker 3: are like, oh, well, he's hurt, so why am I
- 31:36Speaker 3: going to waste my time? And I hate to say that,
- 31:38Speaker 3: but that's just the way it is.
- 31:40Speaker 4: You're in the grind. You're in the grind every day
- 31:42Speaker 4: playing like these guys are coming in, they're trying to
- 31:45Speaker 4: stay out of the training room. If they're in the
- 31:48Speaker 4: city that you're in. They don't go on road trips. Yeah,
- 31:51Speaker 4: they've they've moved on. Would they love to have Strider back,
- 31:54Speaker 4: would they love to have Swell and Bob back Walldrip? Yes,
- 31:58Speaker 4: But I think the Braves are in a Their new
- 32:01Speaker 4: reality is they're going to lean on Chris Sale and
- 32:05Speaker 4: they're ridiculously I think there's still number one bullpen in
- 32:09Speaker 4: the game. And the reality is, I think they can
- 32:11Speaker 4: cruise to they cruise to their division. It's a matter
- 32:14Speaker 4: of how close can they get to having that second
- 32:19Speaker 4: that that buy in the first round, because I think
- 32:22Speaker 4: the rest of the National League East just doesn't really
- 32:25Speaker 4: care that much and a team like this that is
- 32:27Speaker 4: an older lineup needs their breaks.
- 32:31Speaker 2: Hey, quick minute or two on the patres. They picked
- 32:34Speaker 2: up a big win over Milwaukee yesterday. Also, Mike Petrello tweeted,
- 32:38Speaker 2: one day we'll get the full story of why Fernando
- 32:40Speaker 2: Tatis Junior closed up his stands so much the first
- 32:42Speaker 2: two months of the year before opening it back up.
- 32:44Speaker 2: And since June one, his numbers are so much better.
- 32:47Speaker 2: There's so much more pop. There's really kind of less
- 32:51Speaker 2: to all fields and more pull power from him. Not
- 32:54Speaker 2: to mention, Jackson merl is on fire in the second
- 32:56Speaker 2: half of the season and had the bake home run
- 32:57Speaker 2: op Logan Henderson in the seventh inning. That is the
- 33:00Speaker 2: difference maker in that one. Mason Miller picked up his
- 33:02Speaker 2: thirtieth save. So there's a lot.
- 33:04Speaker 1: Going on here, but mostly good things for the Padres.
- 33:06Speaker 3: Aj yeah, but but but Logan Henderson is the best
- 33:11Speaker 3: pitcher of all time and they're so happy they kept
- 33:13Speaker 3: him instead of getting to school, So sorry bur fans,
- 33:17Speaker 3: but yeah, the Padres are playing great. The Padres are
- 33:20Speaker 3: not in the postseason right now, though, which is amazing.
- 33:22Speaker 3: They're one game behind the Diamondbacks and the Phillies, so
- 33:25Speaker 3: there's still work to be done. But if listen, if
- 33:27Speaker 3: Tatis hits, Merril hits, Machado hits, they're gonna be pretty good.
- 33:32Speaker 4: Because I do like their pitching.
- 33:34Speaker 3: But the fact that Fernando Tatis still I think he
- 33:37Speaker 3: only has six home runs, even though that's the last
- 33:39Speaker 3: thirty games. They've all come in the last thirty games,
- 33:42Speaker 3: it's still pretty eleven eleven Sorry, okay, sorry, but he's
- 33:46Speaker 3: still He was supposed to be a thirty to forty
- 33:49Speaker 3: homer guy. That's what they paid him. Like, so whatever
- 33:51Speaker 3: he changed, stick with this, Fernando. Just my advice, stick
- 33:54Speaker 3: with whatever you're doing now. Don't go back to the
- 33:56Speaker 3: other way. And every time he hits a homer, I
- 33:59Speaker 3: get it. I get a message or two or twenty
- 34:02Speaker 3: on Twitter called the spade a spade just saying like
- 34:07Speaker 3: Tatis is getting hot, Like all right, yep.
- 34:11Speaker 1: Well you know the rules all right.
- 34:15Speaker 2: Time for a little seakeek look ahead to what's going
- 34:17Speaker 2: on tonight and in the future. I have one rule
- 34:20Speaker 2: for you guys. You can each pick a game, but
- 34:21Speaker 2: you cannot pick the Adlie Ritchman return. Why because we're
- 34:24Speaker 2: about to talk about it in the next segment, So
- 34:26Speaker 2: you have to hold that one. And also, yeah, people
- 34:29Speaker 2: know they know at this point we've already mentioned it.
- 34:32Speaker 2: Anything else you want to throw out there, I have
- 34:33Speaker 2: one in mind.
- 34:36Speaker 4: I mean Tiger's Guardians.
- 34:40Speaker 1: That's a good one.
- 34:41Speaker 3: It's important playoff game, you know, I mean Drew Anderson, Tanner, Biby,
- 34:45Speaker 3: it's a big game for telling me if they're going
- 34:47Speaker 3: to stay in this race and if someone needs to
- 34:49Speaker 3: win this series or sweep it.
- 34:52Speaker 4: Yankee Seattle, Yankee Seattle. The Yankees have a chance to,
- 34:57Speaker 4: in my opinion, eliminate the Mariners from playoff contention. They
- 35:01Speaker 4: may be eliminated. I mean, there are three there are
- 35:04Speaker 4: three plays. Let's put it this way. If you get
- 35:07Speaker 4: swept in this series, if you're the Yankees and you
- 35:09Speaker 4: get swept, or you sweep them and then come scept
- 35:12Speaker 4: come October, the season's coming down to Okay, now the
- 35:17Speaker 4: first round you're gonna play. Second round, you're gonna play
- 35:19Speaker 4: the Mariners. And you're like, in August, we could have
- 35:21Speaker 4: put them down, we could have swept them in a
- 35:23Speaker 4: three game series. I'm just saying there's a chance.
- 35:27Speaker 1: Yeah, they're still standings.
- 35:29Speaker 4: Four out, four out right now.
- 35:31Speaker 1: The Blue Jays are ahead of the Mariners.
- 35:35Speaker 4: A lot of teams are ahead of the Mariners. That's
- 35:38Speaker 4: what I mean. This is this is big. Yankees gotta
- 35:41Speaker 4: face Woo that the Mariners have to go into Yankee
- 35:44Speaker 4: Stadium like that's it's a bigger series.
- 35:47Speaker 3: And who's pitching on the road. Don't worry, don't worry
- 35:52Speaker 3: Yankee fans. Who's pitching on the road. Sorry, check the numbers.
- 35:55Speaker 3: I ain't kidding. Check who's numbers. He cannot pitch on
- 35:58Speaker 3: the road. He can't pitch on the road.
- 36:01Speaker 2: I've got one more on our way out here. Paul
- 36:03Speaker 2: Skeen's pitching tonight for Pittsburgh. I kind of feel like
- 36:06Speaker 2: they're on life support. Like on a Paul Skeen's day
- 36:08Speaker 2: against Miami.
- 36:09Speaker 1: You got to win.
- 36:10Speaker 2: Pirates have to put something together here National League and
- 36:13Speaker 2: as easy and you know Pittsburgh's been playing may lately.
- 36:17Speaker 1: Time to pick it up.
- 36:18Speaker 2: Okay, code for you see geek if you want to
- 36:20Speaker 2: catch a game tonight or later on this week. Some
- 36:22Speaker 2: good rivalry matchups this weekend too. Territory one zero ten

- 36:28Speaker 2: sea Geek. Make sure you click the link in the

- 36:34Speaker 2: can use it later. And yes, Adley Riuchmand debut is
- 36:37Speaker 2: one that you might want to check out. We're about
- 36:39Speaker 2: to talk about it with some spicy quotes from Craig
- 36:42Speaker 2: Breslow coming up.
- 36:43Speaker 4: That's what he said, That's what he said. That's what
- 36:47Speaker 4: he said.
- 36:47Speaker 1: That's what he said.
- 36:52Speaker 2: Hey, Adley Ruchman is going to be a thing for
- 36:56Speaker 2: the Red Sox in Toronto against the Blue Jays, making
- 36:58Speaker 2: his debut tonight. For Craig Breslo, I'll take a little
- 37:02Speaker 2: piece of this and then we'll talk and I'll give
- 37:03Speaker 2: you more of the quote coming up. But he said
- 37:06Speaker 2: that roster mix sounds pretty bleep and sustainable to me
- 37:10Speaker 2: doing an interview, a little back and forth about trading
- 37:13Speaker 2: for him and the amount of players that he had
- 37:15Speaker 2: to give up to me aj And you know, Craig,
- 37:18Speaker 2: you played with him, right, I have that right, Okay.
- 37:22Speaker 2: I think that he has evolved very quickly over the
- 37:26Speaker 2: course of this season. I think that he was getting
- 37:29Speaker 2: labeled as too mechanical, and remember there were stories coming
- 37:34Speaker 2: out that he wanted to connect more within the organization
- 37:37Speaker 2: with players, etc.
- 37:38Speaker 1: And I'm seeing it through quotes. I'm not in Boston
- 37:41Speaker 1: every day.
- 37:42Speaker 2: They certainly won't give me access up there, but I
- 37:44Speaker 2: can see it through his quotes, the way he's talking
- 37:47Speaker 2: more like a human and more like a gunslinger. I
- 37:49Speaker 2: think is connecting with fans up there, and he's putting
- 37:52Speaker 2: his money where his mouth is with an acquisition like this.
- 37:57Speaker 4: I agree.
- 37:58Speaker 3: I think he's like basically saying screen and this is
- 38:00Speaker 3: how I'm running the team. And I changed my mind.
- 38:02Speaker 3: We're going for it because they got hot, and good
- 38:04Speaker 3: for him. You have the ability to do this as
- 38:06Speaker 3: a general manager. I like Craig. I love playing with Craig.
- 38:10Speaker 3: I played against Craig for a long time. Then I
- 38:11Speaker 3: got to play with him with the Red Sox, so
- 38:14Speaker 3: I really enjoyed him. And again, here's the thing. People
- 38:19Speaker 3: that are saying, oh, well, they paid too much for
- 38:21Speaker 3: him depends on who you ask. Because we asked Jim
- 38:23Speaker 3: Boden about this trade. He didn't really love the players
- 38:27Speaker 3: they gave up, so it's internal. It's internal evaluations, like
- 38:31Speaker 3: Jim said, and internally evaluated. They thought Aliy Rutchman was
- 38:34Speaker 3: more valuable than the players they gave up, so they're
- 38:36Speaker 3: going for it. So good for you, Craig for standing
- 38:38Speaker 3: up for yourself, and we'll see what happens.
- 38:41Speaker 2: I have the longer quote too, before Kratz times in,
- 38:45Speaker 2: so he explained this is Breslo explaining to Alex Spear
- 38:49Speaker 2: why he didn't see the Rutchman deal as a compromise
- 38:52Speaker 2: when it came to building a sustainable long term plan.
- 38:55Speaker 2: So this is where I'll reiterate what I said before,
- 38:58Speaker 2: but theny of you more. He said that right makes sense,
- 39:00Speaker 2: pretty bleep and sustainable to me. It's one thing to
- 39:03Speaker 2: make a trade like this and say it's this year
- 39:05Speaker 2: or bust. It's another catcher is in need we had
- 39:08Speaker 2: If we didn't solve that need right now, we're going
- 39:11Speaker 2: to have that need in the offseason, or we're going
- 39:13Speaker 2: to have that need at the next trade deadline. This
- 39:15Speaker 2: is an opportunity for us to improve the team while
- 39:17Speaker 2: also having this position player, corps, starting rotation, and bullpen
- 39:21Speaker 2: that is going to be around for a while. So
- 39:24Speaker 2: that's the full quote Kratz to talk about how this
- 39:27Speaker 2: isn't just a rental. This is a guy who will
- 39:29Speaker 2: be with the team next year and guess what, if
- 39:30Speaker 2: they like him, they'll be able to re sign him
- 39:32Speaker 2: to or well, I don't want to say that for sure,
- 39:34Speaker 2: he's close to free agency, but if they like him enough,
- 39:36Speaker 2: they can try to push some money his way to
- 39:38Speaker 2: see if he wants to be there long term.
- 39:41Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean that's what's been said about Adlie Rushmand
- 39:44Speaker 4: for his entire career. Franchise type of cornerstone catcher. You know,
- 39:49Speaker 4: the Orioles didn't think so they got rid of him.
- 39:51Speaker 4: And if he used the F bomb, then Boston fans
- 39:55Speaker 4: will definitely be excited about it, because I think some
- 39:58Speaker 4: places in Boston the F bomb's not even really an
- 40:00Speaker 4: explicit explicit word. But I think his I think his
- 40:07Speaker 4: comment or his quote is exactly correct, sustainable. Like you
- 40:13Speaker 4: just you traded for a corner piece of your field,
- 40:16Speaker 4: whether you think he's going to be the best player,
- 40:19Speaker 4: one of the top five players, whatever. You have a
- 40:21Speaker 4: starting catcher now that you trust to do all the
- 40:25Speaker 4: things that you want your catcher to do, and you're
- 40:28Speaker 4: there for two years. That's not a rental, that's not
- 40:31Speaker 4: a we'll see if it works out for the last
- 40:33Speaker 4: two months of the year. Like this is a young team.
- 40:36Speaker 4: We've said it's a young team. They've been doing all
- 40:38Speaker 4: this without Roman Anthony, without their best pitcher, and they
- 40:43Speaker 4: still believe that this window is going to be open
- 40:46Speaker 4: probably past Adlie Rutchman, but you know what, you don't
- 40:50Speaker 4: have an opportunity again. Adlie Rutchman every day a significant
- 40:54Speaker 4: contributor to Al East playoff teams with the Orioles. So
- 40:59Speaker 4: he made the move, and I think it has nothing
- 41:01Speaker 4: to do with sustainability.
- 41:02Speaker 1: M nothing to do with sustainability. I mean he's going
- 41:06Speaker 1: to be part of the team next year too.
- 41:08Speaker 4: No, no sustainability in the sense that it ruins the
- 41:11Speaker 4: because the question was is this gonna hurt their sustainability?
- 41:15Speaker 4: Like are they gonna be able? This is the exact
- 41:17Speaker 4: same team. It bols It makes their team better for
- 41:20Speaker 4: next year. So if you're like, well, three four years
- 41:23Speaker 4: down the road, this might really hurt you. Three four
- 41:26Speaker 4: years down the road. Three four weeks ago, Craig Resler
- 41:30Speaker 4: wasn't gonna have a job next year. M Like, why
- 41:34Speaker 4: is he? Why would he think three four years down
- 41:36Speaker 4: the road, you're gonna try to win this year with
- 41:39Speaker 4: this move, You're gonna try to win next year with
- 41:41Speaker 4: this move. From there, they don't win. He knows the
- 41:44Speaker 4: lifespan of a GM in Boston, it ain't lasting that
- 41:48Speaker 4: much longer. So to me, if I'm the GM. I'm
- 41:51Speaker 4: getting some dudes out of there, and I'm getting a star,
- 41:53Speaker 4: an all star, a three time All Star in Natalie Rutchman,
- 41:57Speaker 4: and to fill a need that we have.
- 41:59Speaker 1: Yep, good call.
- 42:01Speaker 2: Hey, We're gonna run a little clip in a moment
- 42:04Speaker 2: of the former manager of the Red Sox. But before
- 42:06Speaker 2: we do that, one more shout out to the shirt
- 42:08Speaker 2: while we're here, because we have one there. It is
- 42:12Speaker 2: AJ modeling for us, Adley Ritchman Well Signature Action. That's
- 42:17Speaker 2: some of our player license gear at foul Territory.
- 42:20Speaker 1: Shop dot com. ADLEI with the socks.
- 42:25Speaker 2: Okay, let's get to Alex kra Do you know Alex
- 42:27Speaker 2: Cora was on the Ft Network last night on Dirt
- 42:30Speaker 2: from the Dugout. We'll run a little clip, but you
- 42:33Speaker 2: can listen to the entire conversation at some point at
- 42:36Speaker 2: your convenience on Dirt from the Dugout YouTube or podcast platform.
- 42:41Speaker 6: I gotta be very honest. I'm always honest, but this
- 42:46Speaker 6: is something that you know, probably people are gonna say, Ah,
- 42:52Speaker 6: he's playing the corporate card.
- 42:53Speaker 4: But now.
- 42:56Speaker 6: That city, that city, the one I managed, Boston. Yeah,
- 43:02Speaker 6: challenge me every single freaking day, every day, every day
- 43:07Speaker 6: from day one, in that press conference in November, I
- 43:12Speaker 6: want to say seventh of twenty seventeen, all the way
- 43:16Speaker 6: till April twenty fifth in Baltimore this year, just the
- 43:21Speaker 6: expectations and the I mean, shoot, you feel that you
- 43:32Speaker 6: have to win one hundred and sixty two games in
- 43:34Speaker 6: Boston and they push you to be great. And when
- 43:39Speaker 6: you have bad days, you remember that you're in Famiway
- 43:42Speaker 6: Park and you're playing in Boston, and you cannot you know,
- 43:47Speaker 6: mope around.
- 43:47Speaker 4: You have to show up.
- 43:49Speaker 6: And do it over and over and over again the
- 43:52Speaker 6: right way as a manager. As a manager, you know,
- 43:56Speaker 6: I don't know what the future holds. You know, I'm
- 43:58Speaker 6: in a good place right now. But from from that
- 44:01Speaker 6: day when I signed that contrail the way to the
- 44:04Speaker 6: decision one may you know that fan base challenged me.
- 44:08Speaker 6: Man is NonStop is actually very intense, and honestly, I
- 44:15Speaker 6: can feel now kind of like, oh okay, this is
- 44:20Speaker 6: kind of like looking.
- 44:24Speaker 2: Well, yeah, and then talking about he looks different right now,
- 44:27Speaker 2: he looks a little less stressed, but yeah, he was
- 44:30Speaker 2: feeling it. The Red Sox weren't a bad spot. They
- 44:32Speaker 2: weren't a bad spot after he left. But then eventually
- 44:34Speaker 2: they are now in a very good spot. So I
- 44:36Speaker 2: think Alex is going to return next year. We'll talk
- 44:38Speaker 2: to him, probably at some point in the offseason, AJ
- 44:41Speaker 2: but I think he'll be back managing another team next year.
- 44:45Speaker 3: I don't know if it'll be next year, but he'll
- 44:47Speaker 3: definitely be he should manage again. I think he's a
- 44:49Speaker 3: really good manager. He's a great guy to interview. He's
- 44:51Speaker 3: a great guy to talk to. He's honest with you
- 44:54Speaker 3: listen to him. I have a special place in my
- 44:56Speaker 3: heart for the Cora family. Joey Korra was a part
- 44:59Speaker 3: of I play with him for seven years as his
- 45:02Speaker 3: brother as a coach. He was on our two thousand
- 45:04Speaker 3: and five World Series team. And I tell you this,
- 45:07Speaker 3: if any time I reach out to either Joey or Alex,
- 45:10Speaker 3: they will get right back to me.
- 45:11Speaker 4: They will text me right back. They are not afraid
- 45:13Speaker 4: to pick up the phone.
- 45:14Speaker 3: Joey and Alex will text me during the postseason if
- 45:16Speaker 3: they see some on a team.
- 45:18Speaker 4: They are just awesome. So I wish to them nothing
- 45:20Speaker 4: but the best.
- 45:21Speaker 3: Joey recently fired by the Tigers, obviously, Alex let go
- 45:24Speaker 3: by the Red Sox earlier this year. I mean, I
- 45:27Speaker 3: love these guys. I think they're great baseball minds, they're
- 45:30Speaker 3: great baseball people, and I want them to do the
- 45:34Speaker 3: best they can and succeed in life. But Joey and
- 45:36Speaker 3: Alex are both awesome.
- 45:40Speaker 2: Yeah, And you can catch the entire interview, including Alex
- 45:44Speaker 2: talking a little bit about his future, on Dirt from
- 45:46Speaker 2: the Dugout. Recent guests include David Ross, Eric Cosmer, Our Guy,
- 45:51Speaker 2: Buck Show, Walter, Tim Kirkchin was on a recent episode,
- 45:54Speaker 2: Jeff Nelson, Chris Burke, Raj Davis. There's DeRosa who was
- 45:58Speaker 2: on one of the first episodes Dirt from the Dugout,
- 46:01Speaker 2: Karl Rabbits justin Musil. You can catch it on YouTube
- 46:04Speaker 2: and wherever you get your pods. All Right, last topic
- 46:09Speaker 2: here in this one, Tony Botello going through it, the
- 46:14Speaker 2: whole giant organization, Kratz going through it.
- 46:17Speaker 1: So there was a back and forth.
- 46:19Speaker 2: Where he was being asked about usage of Blake Tidwell
- 46:22Speaker 2: in a game. Right, this is super detailed in terms
- 46:25Speaker 2: of going into one moment in a game for a
- 46:27Speaker 2: team whose games really don't matter in terms of the
- 46:31Speaker 2: playoff race at this point. But here's the response from
- 46:34Speaker 2: a spirited Vitello.
- 46:37Speaker 4: Take Tidwell out at that point it seemed like a
- 46:40Speaker 4: good learning point for him to work his way out
- 46:43Speaker 4: of trouble, and yeah, well why take him out?
- 46:46Speaker 1: Then?
- 46:46Speaker 7: Well, I mean, I think it's two things. Learning point
- 46:49Speaker 7: We need a lot of them. I mean, there are
- 46:50Speaker 7: several from this game, three out of the last four games,
- 46:54Speaker 7: really the sloppy game in the last series as well,
- 46:58Speaker 7: but really tight ball games. There's a whole basket full
- 47:04Speaker 7: learning points that everybody behind me and me need to
- 47:07Speaker 7: learn from and move forward. And at the same time,
- 47:11Speaker 7: we're kind of out of room for learning points. I
- 47:14Speaker 7: realized we're at a point in the year where we're
- 47:16Speaker 7: trying to give some guys some looks, if that's a
- 47:19Speaker 7: fair way to say it, but we're trying to win
- 47:22Speaker 7: ball games.
- 47:24Speaker 4: So at that.
- 47:24Speaker 7: Point he kind of emptied the tank against Altuve was
- 47:27Speaker 7: a pretty good battle.
- 47:28Speaker 4: I have seen that.
- 47:29Speaker 7: I haven't seen as much baseball as well, or Wash
- 47:31Speaker 7: or some of the other guys, but seen that many
- 47:34Speaker 7: of times where you empty the tank, you know, and
- 47:37Speaker 7: kind of a standoff there and the next guy get you.
- 47:43Speaker 2: We're not gonna spend a ton of time talking about
- 47:44Speaker 2: the Giants. The next month and a half, but thoughts
- 47:47Speaker 2: on how to manage this the rest of the way
- 47:50Speaker 2: for also a first year manager.
- 47:51Speaker 1: Crat it's tough.
- 47:54Speaker 4: It's tough because he came from a place where it
- 47:56Speaker 4: was nothing about nothing but winning, and I think that
- 47:59Speaker 4: was expectation when he came here. This is probably one
- 48:02Speaker 4: of the reasons that it's tough for some college coaches
- 48:06Speaker 4: to come into a situation. How much development has he
- 48:09Speaker 4: really worked with, Like it's he doesn't have like a
- 48:12Speaker 4: minor league managing career, coaching career where he's like, yeah,
- 48:16Speaker 4: you know, I get it, that was how we develop,
- 48:19Speaker 4: And so I think I think what he said is right.
- 48:22Speaker 4: We always talk about, yeah, it's about winning ball games
- 48:25Speaker 4: in the big leagues, but I would have a hard
- 48:27Speaker 4: time believing that the forty nine and seventy Giants are
- 48:32Speaker 4: in a spot where it's about winning ball games. It's
- 48:34Speaker 4: about developing players, and tid Well is a young player
- 48:38Speaker 4: in this game for the Giants. If they want to
- 48:41Speaker 4: know what he's got, maybe you push them a little
- 48:43Speaker 4: bit farther. I don't disagree with him along at bat,
- 48:47Speaker 4: but you got to push them. You've got to push
- 48:49Speaker 4: them sometimes and ultimately who are we to say, oh,
- 48:51Speaker 4: he should have pushed him here, but don't push them there.
- 48:54Speaker 4: Why did you do that when you know it's you're
- 48:57Speaker 4: gonna be nitpicked all the time. And by ten gets it.
- 49:01Speaker 4: He talks a lot, so he's going to he's gonna
- 49:04Speaker 4: be nip The things that he says is going to
- 49:07Speaker 4: be critique because he says a lot of things.
- 49:10Speaker 2: And you're right, he hasn't managed many games where it
- 49:12Speaker 2: doesn't matter, and he's going to do that at the
- 49:15Speaker 2: big league level. I mean, he managed a really good
- 49:18Speaker 2: Tennessee program. I doubt aj. I mean, you follow college
- 49:21Speaker 2: better than we do. I doubt he was managing many
- 49:22Speaker 2: games where it was like, yeah, this doesn't mean anything.
- 49:25Speaker 1: We're so far out of it.
- 49:27Speaker 4: That never happened.
- 49:28Speaker 3: Probably, I mean, every game in college matters because you
- 49:30Speaker 3: can always sneak into the tournament or figure out a
- 49:32Speaker 3: way to stay alive.
- 49:33Speaker 4: So here, here's the thing. This is where.
- 49:37Speaker 3: Buster Posey, Ron Washington, Ron Wotis, whoever else he has
- 49:41Speaker 3: in his corner needs They all need to sit down
- 49:44Speaker 3: as an organization say all right, we have forty games left.
- 49:47Speaker 3: I don't even know how many with forty to fifty
- 49:49Speaker 3: games left. This is what we need to find out
- 49:52Speaker 3: if one through twenty six of these players in twenty eight,
- 49:54Speaker 3: when he gets to September, and we need to find
- 49:56Speaker 3: out if this guy can do this, if this guy
- 49:59Speaker 3: can do this, and this guy can do this right.
- 50:02Speaker 3: And I know it's always about winning games, I understand that,
- 50:05Speaker 3: but when you're not going to make the playoffs and
- 50:07Speaker 3: you're not going to be any good this year, it's
- 50:10Speaker 3: about figuring out what you have for next year. There
- 50:13Speaker 3: is no transfer portal, there is no nil where you
- 50:16Speaker 3: can go get new Juco players. You got the players
- 50:18Speaker 3: you got, and you have to be able to get
- 50:21Speaker 3: them better. And that's not a knock on Tony Vitelo.
- 50:23Speaker 3: He's just never done this. So this needs to be
- 50:25Speaker 3: an organizational philosophy where they all sit down and say, hey,
- 50:30Speaker 3: this guy needs to figure out this. This guy needs
- 50:32Speaker 3: to figure out this. They need to have a developmental
- 50:34Speaker 3: strategy as an organization, and probably the front office needs
- 50:39Speaker 3: to tell Tony you're not gonna lose your job if
- 50:42Speaker 3: you lose these games here at the end of the
- 50:44Speaker 3: season or else he's going to continue to be like, oh, sorry, nope,
- 50:48Speaker 3: we have got a good adding we're going to go
- 50:50Speaker 3: to the next guy.
- 50:50Speaker 4: He doesn't want to lose his job. He wants to
- 50:52Speaker 4: be a big league manager.
- 50:55Speaker 2: Let's talk fathletics, shall we. They have apparel for every season.
- 51:00Speaker 2: We're wearing it as we talk about it. It's soft,
- 51:02Speaker 2: it's comfortable. I wear it on the show sometimes on FT.
- 51:05Speaker 2: What else do you love about it?
- 51:06Speaker 1: Krats?
- 51:07Speaker 4: Well, I have it on right now, and I'm all
- 51:09Speaker 4: about quality. But you know what, you know how good
- 51:13Speaker 4: your clothes are when you're a parent and your kids
- 51:16Speaker 4: keep stealing all of it. My daughter stole the sweatshirt,
- 51:19Speaker 4: my son sole one of my t shirts. So it's
- 51:22Speaker 4: got to be nice looking.
- 51:23Speaker 2: And if it gets a little bit chillier, then it's
- 51:26Speaker 2: layering season and they've got layers for the fall. Shop
- 51:30Speaker 2: now at fabletics dot com slash foul to get seventy
- 51:33Speaker 2: to eighty percent off everything when you sign up as
- 51:36Speaker 2: a new VIP. Take a quick style quiz and be
- 51:38Speaker 2: sure to select foul when prompted to unlock this offer.
- 51:43Speaker 2: This is a limited time offer, so do not wait again.
- 51:46Speaker 2: That's fabletics dot Com slash foul for seventy to eighty
- 51:51Speaker 2: percent off everything as a new vip hey Nathan Evaldi
- 51:57Speaker 2: on the il right posterior elbow inflammation. Remember a j
- 52:01Speaker 2: he was one of the guys that was mentioned, like
- 52:03Speaker 2: do the Rangers trade Abaldi or de Gram or even
- 52:06Speaker 2: Corey Seeger. They'd have to get permission, and they either
- 52:10Speaker 2: didn't get permission from guys or obviously didn't get far
- 52:14Speaker 2: enough to even have that conversation. But for the purposes
- 52:18Speaker 2: of Texas, I mean, they're right in the thick of this.
- 52:20Speaker 1: Ebaldi would be nice. So hopefully he gets well soon.
- 52:24Speaker 3: Yeah, they hold a wildcard, don't they Right now as
- 52:26Speaker 3: we speak, don't they hold the third wildcard? So yeah,
- 52:29Speaker 3: I mean they're they're counting on him and de Gram
- 52:31Speaker 3: and Mackenzie Gore a pitch better, uh, to win some
- 52:34Speaker 3: games for him and to get him into the postseason
- 52:36Speaker 3: if you have to, If you can go with Valdi,
- 52:38Speaker 3: de Groam, Mackenzie Gore, it's not a bad way to start.
- 52:42Speaker 3: They just got to figure out away score some runs.
- 52:43Speaker 3: But yeah, this is a big blow to the Rangers.
- 52:45Speaker 3: But gosh, skip Schumacher in the way the Rangers have
- 52:47Speaker 3: handled things with all the injuries and all the things
- 52:50Speaker 3: they've had happened and they're still right here.
- 52:52Speaker 4: It's a good sign, but they need a Valdi back
- 52:55Speaker 4: sooner rather than later. When just when you thought you
- 52:58Speaker 4: knew who was gonna win the wildcard, Ivaldi goes down.
- 53:01Speaker 4: You're like, okay, you know that's that's how the America
- 53:07Speaker 4: League is right now.
- 53:09Speaker 1: Right, It's tough.
- 53:12Speaker 2: But if you're Texas, I mean, it sounds ridiculous to
- 53:18Speaker 2: say the sage at least you didn't sell.
- 53:20Speaker 1: You kind of just tried.
- 53:23Speaker 4: They tried to sell, right, But yeah, Atlanta said.
- 53:29Speaker 3: I think they knew deep down he wouldn't go. I
- 53:31Speaker 3: think they knew that he was going to say no.
- 53:34Speaker 3: There's time.
- 53:34Speaker 4: Listen.
- 53:35Speaker 3: It's like when I had ten five rights with the
- 53:36Speaker 3: White Sox, if they would have come to me, they
- 53:39Speaker 3: will know I would have said no. So there are
- 53:41Speaker 3: times where teams go to guys and they know more
- 53:45Speaker 3: than likely they're going to say no. Not saying it's
- 53:47Speaker 3: one hundred percent, but it was more than likely that
- 53:49Speaker 3: Jacob deGrom he's comfortable in Texas.
- 53:51Speaker 4: He likes his comfort level. He's earned that right.
- 53:54Speaker 3: I mean, I'm sorry, but they had a feeling like
- 53:56Speaker 3: they kind of knew that he wasn't to say yes.
- 53:58Speaker 4: You feel like it's a pr type of thing, then
- 54:00Speaker 4: that's why it's a pr Of course it is because
- 54:02Speaker 4: they can say, oh, well, we tried to get rid
- 54:04Speaker 4: of him, but he wanted to stay, right.
- 54:06Speaker 3: I mean they why does it need to be Why
- 54:08Speaker 3: does it need to be out there? That they even
- 54:10Speaker 3: tried to move Jacob to Grom It shouldn't even be
- 54:12Speaker 3: out there. If they asked him weeks ago and he
- 54:15Speaker 3: said no, then why does it doesn't even need to
- 54:17Speaker 3: be out there? There is no full no trade clause.
- 54:21Speaker 3: Guess what when I was ten five, I had full
- 54:23Speaker 3: no trade clause. White Sox couldn't trade me. They would
- 54:25Speaker 3: add to release me. That's the right you earned as
- 54:28Speaker 3: a player.
- 54:30Speaker 2: Hey, the Angels just fired pitching coach Mike Maddox, assistant
- 54:34Speaker 2: pitching coach Darryl Scott, and bullpen coach Dom Chety. Sources
- 54:38Speaker 2: telling Jeff Passon Maddox joined the team this past offseason
- 54:41Speaker 2: and he was working on I'll add my commentary here.
- 54:44Speaker 2: A classic Angels one year contract. Angels pitchers with about
- 54:47Speaker 2: a four and a half the ra the most walks
- 54:49Speaker 2: in baseball, ajay. The one year contract crew always works well.
- 54:55Speaker 3: Here here's my hands on my heads. First of all,
- 54:57Speaker 3: I know two of these Two of these three I
- 54:58Speaker 3: played for Mike Maddocks. He was a pitching coach in Texas.
- 55:02Speaker 3: He's awesome, he knows his stuff. He's as prepared as
- 55:04Speaker 3: any pitching coach I've ever been around. He's awesome, so
- 55:08Speaker 3: to blame him, especially almost in September, is ludicrous to me.
- 55:12Speaker 3: And I know Dom Chidi very well. I've known Dom
- 55:14Speaker 3: Chidi for since I was in high school. So he's
- 55:16Speaker 3: also another guy that's been around. He's played, been with
- 55:18Speaker 3: multiple organizations as a bullpen coach. He knows his stuff.
- 55:22Speaker 3: Doesn't make sense why they're doing this. The only reason
- 55:24Speaker 3: it makes sense is because they're the angels and no
- 55:27Speaker 3: one knows what the heck they're doing. But doesn't really
- 55:29Speaker 3: matter at this point. I mean, you would think you'd
- 55:31Speaker 3: want a guy like Mike Maddocks and Dom Chiedti that
- 55:33Speaker 3: have been around the game with some of these young
- 55:35Speaker 3: pitchers to try to help them develop them. But again,
- 55:38Speaker 3: what do we know on the show.
- 55:39Speaker 4: Nothing? Yeah, some people on Twitter, I'll tell you exactly
- 55:42Speaker 4: what it is. How much money were they making time
- 55:44Speaker 4: to get rid of them? They didn't they didn't perform magic,
- 55:48Speaker 4: so they him. They still have to pay him. So
- 55:53Speaker 4: what's the point then, I just said that I don't know.
- 55:57Speaker 4: I don't know.
- 55:57Speaker 2: Point is that there's almost and figure out a way.
- 56:01Speaker 2: Yes for half season contracts. Arti Morino is going to
- 56:05Speaker 2: look into that. Can we do half season we have
- 56:08Speaker 2: convinced people to take one years.
- 56:10Speaker 1: Can we figure out.
- 56:11Speaker 2: Half year deals? Can we do a monthly with our
- 56:13Speaker 2: next manager? Right now it's still Zooki. But the whole
- 56:19Speaker 2: you know, everybody just watching their back kind of thing.
- 56:21Speaker 2: It's just it's a bad look. I know a lot
- 56:23Speaker 2: of assistant coaches and all that are often on one
- 56:26Speaker 2: year contracts, not all of them, but many of them are,
- 56:28Speaker 2: so I get that. But the point is they're just
- 56:31Speaker 2: doing things differently, and it's one of those situations where
- 56:33Speaker 2: they're like, why are you doing things differently from everyone else?
- 56:36Speaker 2: And maybe John Mozaylock is about to clean that up
- 56:39Speaker 2: if he's there long term. We'll see what happens.
- 56:41Speaker 1: I do know that Arti Morino is aware of.
- 56:44Speaker 2: A lockout coming up and doesn't want people in the
- 56:46Speaker 2: books during that time period, so he will get to
- 56:49Speaker 2: work there as well. Fun fun times, but yeah, we'll see.
- 56:55Speaker 2: I mean, at least they picked up some prospects at
- 56:57Speaker 2: the deadline. They don't usually do that.
- 57:00Speaker 4: That's rare. They'll be in the big league soon because
- 57:03Speaker 4: artis like, we ain't letting anybody sit in the minor leagues.
- 57:06Speaker 4: You hit a few dangers and you're going up to
- 57:08Speaker 4: the show.
- 57:19Speaker 1: Let's slap.
- 57:20Speaker 2: I thought this was hilarious from Jake McCarthy, who's having
- 57:22Speaker 2: a really good season and that includes really good road
- 57:25Speaker 2: numbers for the Rockies. He won National League Player of
- 57:28Speaker 2: the Week his first time doing it, and aj his
- 57:33Speaker 2: quote to Bob Nightingale was, I didn't even know they
- 57:37Speaker 2: had that award. How many guys do you think know
- 57:40Speaker 2: and not know what's the percentage splits on the Player
- 57:43Speaker 2: of the Week award?
- 57:45Speaker 3: I think most players know they have one because they've
- 57:47Speaker 3: usually been on a team where the guy has won one,
- 57:50Speaker 3: I mean, and then they have to go on and
- 57:52Speaker 3: do interviews about it and people talk about it and
- 57:54Speaker 3: usually means you're really hot. So yeah, I'm surprised he
- 57:57Speaker 3: said this, But I mean most people know there's a
- 58:00Speaker 3: Player of the Week and a Player of the Month,
- 58:01Speaker 3: and every pitcher of the week and a Picture of
- 58:03Speaker 3: the Month and all that stuff. So I was a
- 58:05Speaker 3: little surprised that he said that, but hey, you know,
- 58:08Speaker 3: I also didn't know there was a four out role.
- 58:10Speaker 3: So there's a lot of things we can learn. You
- 58:11Speaker 3: can learn something new every day.
- 58:12Speaker 4: Kid.
- 58:14Speaker 2: You focused on the team too, not individual accomplishments, not
- 58:17Speaker 2: weekly individual accomplishments.
- 58:19Speaker 4: He's having a good year. If you haven't seen it,
- 58:21Speaker 4: he is.
- 58:21Speaker 2: He is former diamondback. And we do have to say
- 58:24Speaker 2: that about Paul Seawald. Potentially he was designated for as Simon.
- 58:27Speaker 2: He was racking up saves earlier this year.
- 58:31Speaker 4: He was, but it's kind of gone the other way
- 58:34Speaker 4: for him, so you know, I get they had to
- 58:38Speaker 4: make that role. Hey, did you have your Player of
- 58:40Speaker 4: the week trophies? Player of the month trophies? They give
- 58:43Speaker 4: you a watch. I'm sure I have its surprise Dash
- 58:45Speaker 4: Towanna stay somewhere. They give you a watch. He used
- 58:47Speaker 4: to give you a watch. I think I won two
- 58:48Speaker 4: of them.
- 58:49Speaker 3: So they give you a watch like a Tornio.
- 58:53Speaker 4: I don't know how to say it. Tornio Torneo watch
