- 0:00Speaker 1: No Babe Watch. All right. A massive day for U.S.-China
- 0:03Speaker 1: relations as President Trump is set to personally welcome President
- 0:06Speaker 1: Xi when he arrives in Washington tonight at the start
- 0:09Speaker 1: of the first U.S. state visit in over a decade.
- 0:12Speaker 2: But the real action begins at tomorrow's high-stakes summit. The
- 0:15Speaker 2: two leaders tackle top concerns with trade, tariffs, and an
- 0:19Speaker 2: AI all on the agenda. They don't want to bring
- 0:22Speaker 2: up Taiwan.
- 0:23Speaker 3: We do.
- 0:24Speaker 4: That pivotal summit coming after the commander-in-chief's U.N. address touting
- 0:27Speaker 4: America's strength and putting our enemies on notice.
- 0:31Speaker 1: The president also putting the Middle East in focus, revealing
- 0:34Speaker 1: the United States and Iranian officials met on the sidelines
- 0:38Speaker 1: shortly after warning he may annihilate the country if no
- 0:42Speaker 1: deal is made.
- 0:43Speaker 4: Iran's president speaks at the General Assembly later today, and
- 0:46Speaker 4: the Israeli prime minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, addresses world leaders tomorrow.
- 0:50Speaker 2: So now let's get reaction from Peter Doocy live at
- 0:53Speaker 2: the White House and Trey Yinks in Tel Aviv. Trey,
- 0:56Speaker 2: I guess let's start with you. The prime minister has left.
- 0:59Speaker 2: It's going to be a 24-hour visit in and out.
- 1:02Speaker 2: He's got an election he wants to win. But most
- 1:04Speaker 2: of all, he's going to come be greeted by some
- 1:07Speaker 2: protesters here in New York. Does he realize that?
- 1:12Speaker 3: Yeah, hey, Brian, good morning. He probably is aware of that.
- 1:14Speaker 3: Certainly the security situation for the Israeli prime minister is
- 1:17Speaker 3: very high, given the threats against Israel and his own
- 1:21Speaker 3: family in the United States previously. But for Prime Minister Netanyahu,
- 1:26Speaker 3: the focus of his remarks today are likely to be
- 1:28Speaker 3: on the situation with Iran and also the upcoming anniversary
- 1:32Speaker 3: of the October 7th terrorist attack. It will be three
- 1:34Speaker 3: years on October 7th. This gives you a sense of
- 1:38Speaker 3: how things have changed in the region over the past
- 1:40Speaker 3: three years and how they've stayed the same. Remember, it
- 1:43Speaker 3: was Israel and the United States that launched Operation Epic
- 1:46Speaker 3: Fury against the Iranian regime back in February. And it
- 1:50Speaker 3: was that 40-day bombing campaign that relied heavily on both U.S.
- 1:53Speaker 3: and Israeli intelligence to take out around 40 top Iranian
- 1:57Speaker 3: officials in the first day of the war. And so
- 2:00Speaker 3: he's likely to discuss this very issue and the possibility
- 2:03Speaker 3: of renewed conflict with Iran. We know the IDF remains
- 2:05Speaker 3: on high alert over concerns that the conflict with Iran
- 2:08Speaker 3: could expand once again and that Iran could get its proxies,
- 2:11Speaker 3: like the Houthis in Yemen or what remains of Hezbollah
- 2:14Speaker 3: in southern Lebanon, back more directly involved in this war.
- 2:18Speaker 1: Peter, part of the thing that we're going to be
- 2:21Speaker 1: watching today as the president welcomes President Xi is what
- 2:27Speaker 1: the tradeoff is going to be to get them to
- 2:30Speaker 1: stop giving information to the Iranians about our bases. And
- 2:34Speaker 1: what do you think it's going to be?
- 2:37Speaker 5: Yes, and so you look at this high-stakes meeting tomorrow
- 2:40Speaker 5: and what each side is going to ask for. President
- 2:42Speaker 5: Trump's top ask is going to be that the Chinese
- 2:46Speaker 5: stop providing intelligence to the Iranians that they are using
- 2:51Speaker 5: to target American interests, American service members, American allies. including
- 2:56Speaker 5: some attacks that may have killed American service members in combat.
- 3:00Speaker 5: Xi is going to ask for the U.S. to stop
- 3:03Speaker 5: selling weapons to Taiwan as part of a longstanding defense agreement.
- 3:08Speaker 5: Is that the tradeoff? Is Xi going to say, OK,
- 3:12Speaker 5: we'll stop giving the Iranians intel. If you stop giving
- 3:15Speaker 5: the Taiwanese weapons, maybe. The other thing, of course, is AI.
- 3:20Speaker 5: It's not in the U.S. or Chinese interest during their
- 3:23Speaker 5: race for AI supremacy for the machines to become self-aware
- 3:29Speaker 5: and destroy humanity or try to. And so they are
- 3:32Speaker 5: expected to figure out some kind of a red phone
- 3:33Speaker 5: situation if things get really out of hand. But the
- 3:37Speaker 5: primary— the most time-sensitive asks for each side have to do
- 3:41Speaker 5: with Iran and Taiwan.
- 3:43Speaker 4: Trey, what was the reaction from people there in Israel
- 3:47Speaker 4: when the president yesterday said we either do a deal
- 3:50Speaker 4: or he warned that he might annihilate Iran?
- 3:55Speaker 3: Look, the Israelis remain prepared for the possibility that the
- 3:58Speaker 3: conflict expands once again. And according to Israeli intelligence officials
- 4:02Speaker 3: that we've talked to, they have delivered this message to
- 4:04Speaker 3: the United States that their jets are ready if the
- 4:07Speaker 3: president orders a wider strike package against Iran. I do
- 4:11Speaker 3: want to just give you some breaking news here that
- 4:13Speaker 3: is crossing the wires as it relates to Iran. There
- 4:16Speaker 3: is another report of a cargo vessel in the Strait
- 4:18Speaker 3: of Hormuz that was hit with an unknown projectile likely
- 4:22Speaker 3: launched by the IRGC there along the strait. It's an
- 4:25Speaker 3: indication that as these talks are taking place in New
- 4:28Speaker 3: York and as Iran's president, Massoud Poseshkin, is preparing to
- 4:32Speaker 3: speak before the U.N. General Assembly, the IRGC is still
- 4:36Speaker 3: targeting the Strait of Hormuz. We saw similar attacks earlier
- 4:39Speaker 3: this week. And remember, there is this parallel effort by
- 4:42Speaker 3: the United States to escort vessels with crude oil on
- 4:45Speaker 3: board out of the Persian Gulf. But the Iranians are
- 4:48Speaker 3: still threatening this critical waterway.
- 4:50Speaker 2: So, there was a meeting yesterday, Peter and Trey, if
- 4:54Speaker 2: you want to weigh in, with the Gulf states and
- 4:55Speaker 2: the president. And the early reports are— and feel free to
- 4:58Speaker 2: kick it to the curb if you don't find it
- 5:00Speaker 2: to be true— the Gulf states will say to the president,
- 5:02Speaker 2: don't do the annihilation thing. I think we're worried about
- 5:06Speaker 2: getting hit in the process. Peter, do you want to start?
- 5:11Speaker 5: Yes, and that was a big surprise at the beginning
- 5:13Speaker 5: of Epic Fury when the Iranians started lashing out at
- 5:16Speaker 5: all of their neighbors that they thought they were on
- 5:20Speaker 5: friendlier terms with in the region. They don't want that
- 5:22Speaker 5: to happen, so that does seem like it's something that's realistic. And, again,
- 5:26Speaker 5: President Trump— is starting to hear from midterm candidates in Iowa,
- 5:31Speaker 5: in Ohio, in Michigan, the people in the most competitive
- 5:35Speaker 5: races for Republicans to keep the Senate, that they think
- 5:38Speaker 5: it is time to end the war in Iran, to
- 5:41Speaker 5: bring gas prices down so that they stay competitive in
- 5:44Speaker 5: these midterms. And, of course, the president has said, well,
- 5:47Speaker 5: I don't care about the midterms. This is more important,
- 5:49Speaker 5: preventing Iran from getting a nuke. But it's a factor,
- 5:53Speaker 5: and it is something that— You know, if there is
- 5:56Speaker 5: not a military option like annihilating, he's going to need
- 5:59Speaker 5: these Gulf partners that they are talking to in New
- 6:01Speaker 5: York on board with the diplomatic option.
- 6:04Speaker 1: Trey, just to cap it off to Brian's point about that,
- 6:07Speaker 1: about that reporting, to be fair— With the Gulf states,
- 6:11Speaker 1: it's not just them being hit. They're also worried about
- 6:14Speaker 1: some within their population that agree with the cause of
- 6:19Speaker 1: Iran as well. So, it's not just a matter of— their
- 6:23Speaker 1: politics in the Gulf states are quite complicated, right?
- 6:28Speaker 3: They are complicated, and the message has been quite homogenous
- 6:31Speaker 3: to the Trump administration. They are concerned about the possibility
- 6:35Speaker 3: of retaliation by Iran against their energy infrastructure if the
- 6:38Speaker 3: president ramps up strikes against Iran. And we know the
- 6:42Speaker 3: shorter-range cruise missiles or even the short-range ballistic missiles that
- 6:45Speaker 3: the Iranians still have in their arsenal would likely target U.S.
- 6:48Speaker 3: bases and even population centers in the Gulf. This meeting
- 6:52Speaker 3: yesterday on the sidelines of the U.N. General Assembly was
- 6:54Speaker 3: quite significant— And I think yesterday, two comments from General
- 6:58Speaker 3: Jack Keane, he was on our air talking about how
- 7:00Speaker 3: this is an opportunity for President Trump to explain to
- 7:03Speaker 3: these Gulf states that there is a window right now
- 7:06Speaker 3: to deal with Iran and to further weaken the regime
- 7:09Speaker 3: in Tehran. And that is part of what the campaign
- 7:11Speaker 3: is for the Trump administration, to sell this conflict to
- 7:15Speaker 3: the Gulf states and say, look, you're going to have
- 7:16Speaker 3: to take some casualties. There will be some damage. But ultimately,
- 7:19Speaker 3: this would benefit you in the long run. Now, when
- 7:22Speaker 3: we look at what's actually taking place in the region,
- 7:24Speaker 3: there is still quite a lot of escalation. The Iranians
- 7:26Speaker 3: have routinely lashed out at these Gulf countries, even during
- 7:30Speaker 3: this period of relative calm. And even their forces in Iraq,
- 7:34Speaker 3: these Iran-backed Iraqi Shia militias and, of course, the Houthis
- 7:37Speaker 3: in Yemen, have ramped up attacks on Saudi energy infrastructure,
- 7:41Speaker 3: targeting the capital of Riyadh and many of these oil
- 7:44Speaker 3: refineries in the southern part of Saudi Arabia. It's an
- 7:46Speaker 3: indication that the Iranians are still willing to not only
- 7:49Speaker 3: use their domestic missile arsenal, but also their proxy forces
- 7:53Speaker 3: across the region to threaten the international energy trade.
- 7:56Speaker 1: How they're able to rebuild is a mystery.
- 7:58Speaker 2: It's all going on underneath the ground.
- 8:00Speaker 1: Trey and Peter, great job.
