- 0:06Speaker 1: Good.
- 0:08Speaker 2: Good is that's right? Great? Good afternoon everybody. How are
- 0:15Speaker 2: we good to see you all. I have a few
- 0:18Speaker 2: announcements off the top today. On April fourteenth, President Trump
- 0:22Speaker 2: will welcome President Bucelli of El Salvador for an official
- 0:25Speaker 2: working visit here at the White House. They will discuss
- 0:28Speaker 2: Al Salvador's partnership on using their supermax prison for Trende
- 0:32Speaker 2: Aragua and MS thirteen gang members, and how El Salvador's
- 0:35Speaker 2: cooperation with the United States has become a model for
- 0:38Speaker 2: others to work with this administration. On April seventeenth, President
- 0:43Speaker 2: Trump will welcome Prime Minister Georgia Maloney of Italy for
- 0:46Speaker 2: an official working visit at the White House as well.
- 0:49Speaker 2: The President's thoughts also remain with the families and communities
- 0:53Speaker 2: experiencing devastating loss from the severe storms and flooding affected
- 0:57Speaker 2: several states across the central US. President Trump approved emergency
- 1:02Speaker 2: declarations for Arkansas, Kentucky, and Tennessee, allowing FEMA to provide
- 1:07Speaker 2: federal assistance like equipment in resources to support state and
- 1:11Speaker 2: local emergency response officials who are leading this response on
- 1:14Speaker 2: the ground. Last night, the Supreme Court delivered a massive
- 1:18Speaker 2: legal victory to the Trump administration and allowed us to
- 1:21Speaker 2: continue removing foreign terrorists invaders under the Alien Enemies Act.
- 1:26Speaker 2: This was a SmackDown to a rogue, left wing, low
- 1:29Speaker 2: level district court judge who have relentlessly tried to stop
- 1:34Speaker 2: President Trump from using his core constitutional powers as head
- 1:37Speaker 2: of the executive branch and as commander in chief. The
- 1:41Speaker 2: highest court in the land made it clear that the
- 1:43Speaker 2: President of the United States has the power to protect
- 1:46Speaker 2: our homeland and forcibly remove foreign terrorists who pose a
- 1:50Speaker 2: grave threat to families and communities. Thank you to the
- 1:54Speaker 2: Supreme Court for upholding the rule of law and protecting
- 1:57Speaker 2: the Constitution. Our message to the monster trend de Aragua
- 2:01Speaker 2: and MS thirteen terrorists still hiding illegally inside our country
- 2:04Speaker 2: is clear to port yourself now or you will be
- 2:08Speaker 2: locked up and sent back to your home country. On
- 2:11Speaker 2: another matter, the historic Liberation Day announcement last week by
- 2:14Speaker 2: President Trump made it very clear that the era of
- 2:18Speaker 2: economic American economic surrender is over. President Trump is no
- 2:23Speaker 2: longer going to allow American workers and companies to be
- 2:27Speaker 2: ripped off at the hands of foolish trade practices that
- 2:30Speaker 2: shipped away millions of high paying jobs and hollowed out
- 2:33Speaker 2: communities across the country. It's America First all the way,
- 2:38Speaker 2: and despite fear mongering by the media, the world is
- 2:41Speaker 2: clearly responding to President Trump's approach. Just yesterday, President Trump
- 2:46Speaker 2: held a bilateral meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netnahu
- 2:49Speaker 2: here at the White House. The Prime Minister pledged to
- 2:52Speaker 2: immediately eliminate America's trade deficit with Israel and remove their
- 2:56Speaker 2: trade barriers. Israel's proactive approach should serve as a model
- 3:00Speaker 2: for the rest of the world. Also yesterday, the President
- 3:04Speaker 2: spoke with Japan's Prime Minister, who wants to negotiate as well.
- 3:08Speaker 2: The President also spoke the acting President of South Korea
- 3:11Speaker 2: this morning. He has task Secretary Besson and US Trade
- 3:15Speaker 2: Representative Jamison Greer to lead these talks. In total, since
- 3:18Speaker 2: the Liberation Day announcement, nearly seventy countries have already reached
- 3:22Speaker 2: out to the President to begin a negotiation. Countries are
- 3:26Speaker 2: falling over themselves to reform their unfair trade practices and
- 3:29Speaker 2: free open their markets to our country. Why Because these
- 3:33Speaker 2: countries greatly respect President Trump in the sheer power of
- 3:37Speaker 2: the American market, these countries realize they've gotten filthy rich
- 3:42Speaker 2: over the past few decades by imposing substantial tariffs on
- 3:45Speaker 2: American made products and ridiculous non monetary barriers to block
- 3:50Speaker 2: out American industry. The jig is up. Past American presidents
- 3:54Speaker 2: sat by and let this happen, but President Trump stood
- 3:57Speaker 2: up for our country and he is saying no more.
- 4:00Speaker 2: The President's message has been simple and consistent from the
- 4:03Speaker 2: beginning to countries around the world. Bring us your best
- 4:06Speaker 2: offers and he will listen. Deals will only be made
- 4:09Speaker 2: if they benefit American workers and address our nation's crippling
- 4:13Speaker 2: trade deficits. America does not need other countries as much
- 4:17Speaker 2: as other countries need us, and President Trump knows this.
- 4:20Speaker 2: He's going to use the leverage of our markets in
- 4:23Speaker 2: our country to the advantage of the people he was
- 4:26Speaker 2: sworn in to represent. On the other hand, countries like
- 4:29Speaker 2: China who have chosen to retaliate and try to double
- 4:32Speaker 2: down on their mistreatment of American workers are making a mistake.
- 4:36Speaker 2: President Trump has a spine of steel, and he will
- 4:38Speaker 2: not break, and America will not break under his leadership.
- 4:42Speaker 2: He is guided by a firm belief that America must
- 4:45Speaker 2: be able to produce essential goods for our own people
- 4:47Speaker 2: and export them to the rest of the world. A
- 4:50Speaker 2: strong America cannot be solely dependent on foreign countries for
- 4:54Speaker 2: our food, medicines, and critical minerals, and America must always
- 4:58Speaker 2: maintain a robust defense supply chain. Reprioritizing and strengthening our
- 5:03Speaker 2: manufacturing industry are essential national and economic security issues of
- 5:08Speaker 2: the utmost importance to President Trump. By focusing on supercharging
- 5:12Speaker 2: the on shoring of American manufacturing, the President is already
- 5:15Speaker 2: delivering on his promise to usher in an economic golden
- 5:18Speaker 2: age for our country. Just look at Friday's jobs report,
- 5:22Speaker 2: which smashed expectations. For the second straight month. The American
- 5:27Speaker 2: economy added two hundred and twenty eight thousand jobs, nearly
- 5:30Speaker 2: one hundred thousand more jobs and economists predicted, in the
- 5:33Speaker 2: fourth highest month for private payroll growth in the past
- 5:36Speaker 2: two years. There was also a sharp increase in transportation, construction,
- 5:41Speaker 2: and warehousing employment. And in just eleven weeks, President Trump
- 5:45Speaker 2: has secured more than one point five trillion dollars in
- 5:48Speaker 2: private sector investment. This is a half trillion dollars more
- 5:51Speaker 2: than Joe Biden secured in his entire term. This record
- 5:55Speaker 2: breaking private sector investment will create roughly three hundred and
- 5:58Speaker 2: fifty thousand American jobs. Counting, if you add up all
- 6:02Speaker 2: of the investment pledges from foreign governments, President Trump has
- 6:05Speaker 2: secured an incredible five trillion in total investments already. In
- 6:10Speaker 2: the months ahead, president Trump's pro growth economic agenda will
- 6:13Speaker 2: be fully realized. The largest deregulatory effort in American history
- 6:17Speaker 2: is underway. Unnecessary, burdensome, costly red tape is being eliminated
- 6:22Speaker 2: by this entire federal government every day, driving down costs
- 6:26Speaker 2: in massively boosting small businesses. So far, President Trump's deregulation
- 6:31Speaker 2: effort has already saved Americans more than one hundred and
- 6:33Speaker 2: eighty billion dollars, equivalent to twenty one hundred per family
- 6:37Speaker 2: of four. The President's Drill Baby, Drill energy agenda, which
- 6:41Speaker 2: he will discuss later this evening in the East Room,
- 6:44Speaker 2: is capitalizing on the abundance of natural resources under our
- 6:47Speaker 2: feet to generate more affordable electricity, cheap gas, and quality
- 6:51Speaker 2: new jobs. All of this will combine to end the
- 6:55Speaker 2: Biden imposed cost of living crisis that's absolutely crushed American families.
- 7:00Speaker 2: Under President Trump, the American energy industry will lead the
- 7:03Speaker 2: globe over the next century, delivering lower prices and significantly
- 7:07Speaker 2: strengthening our country's economic position. At the President's direction, Republicans
- 7:12Speaker 2: in Congress are working quickly to pass one big, beautiful bill,
- 7:15Speaker 2: which will also include the largest tax cut in American history.
- 7:20Speaker 2: As President Trump has said, the House must pass this
- 7:23Speaker 2: budget resolution quickly. Here in our new media seat today,
- 7:27Speaker 2: we have Jasmine Wright, the White House Reporter for Notice.
- 7:30Speaker 2: Notice is a nonprofit and nonpartisan news site which launched
- 7:33Speaker 2: in early twenty twenty four. They've gained millions of readers
- 7:36Speaker 2: across the country since newsroom's goal is both to inform
- 7:39Speaker 2: readers and train the next generation of politics and policy journalists.
- 7:43Speaker 2: They also partner with state newsrooms and to give local
- 7:47Speaker 2: communities more knowledge of what their representatives are doing in Washington, DC.
- 7:50Speaker 2: With that, please kick us off, Jasmine, Thanks so much, Caroline.
- 7:53Speaker 2: A couple questions for you, the first one being can
- 7:56Speaker 2: you explain the White House's evolution from this is not
- 8:00Speaker 2: negotiation on tariffs too. Countries should pitch us and start
- 8:03Speaker 2: negotiations for sure, As the President said yesterday, Jasmine, both
- 8:07Speaker 2: things can be true at the same time, and it
- 8:09Speaker 2: is a non negotiable position that the United States has
- 8:12Speaker 2: faced a national security and economic crisis because of the
- 8:15Speaker 2: unfair trade practices by countries around the world. As for
- 8:19Speaker 2: the President, I have maintained this position. The entire administration
- 8:22Speaker 2: has always said that President Trump is willing to pick
- 8:25Speaker 2: up the phone and talk. And the President met with
- 8:27Speaker 2: his trade team this morning and he directed them to
- 8:30Speaker 2: have tailor made trade deals with each and every country
- 8:34Speaker 2: that calls up this administration to strike a deal and listen.
- 8:38Speaker 2: And each and every one of these trade deals should
- 8:40Speaker 2: be tailored and unique based on that country's markets, based
- 8:44Speaker 2: on that country's exports, the imports here in the United
- 8:47Speaker 2: States of America, what makes the most sense for the
- 8:50Speaker 2: American worker and for our industry. The President is focused
- 8:53Speaker 2: on putting America first. So was the evolution not factored
- 8:58Speaker 2: in or determined by of the tumult in the stock market?
- 9:02Speaker 2: Was that not a part of the consideration to start
- 9:04Speaker 2: making these negotiations and deal with again, I would reject
- 9:06Speaker 2: that there was an evolution. On day one, we had
- 9:09Speaker 2: said that the President will always pick up the phone
- 9:11Speaker 2: for other nations and other companies that call this administration.
- 9:14Speaker 2: The President always has a listening ear and it's a
- 9:17Speaker 2: non negotiable fact that America has faced a national security
- 9:21Speaker 2: and economic crisis for many decades, and President Trump is
- 9:25Speaker 2: just the first to address this. My last question, how
- 9:27Speaker 2: negotiations change. How much revenue the White House is planning
- 9:31Speaker 2: to make from the tariffs, Well, that has yet to
- 9:33Speaker 2: be seen. But as the President said, the reciprocal tariffs,
- 9:37Speaker 2: which will continue to go in effect as these deals
- 9:39Speaker 2: are negotiated and ongoing, will generate trillions of dollars in
- 9:43Speaker 2: revenue to the United States. And this is twofold. The
- 9:45Speaker 2: President wants to onshore jobs here to the United States
- 9:48Speaker 2: of America. He wants to boost our manufacturing industry. He
- 9:52Speaker 2: also wants to tackle these crippling deficits with almost every
- 9:55Speaker 2: single country around the world. Jackie, thanks Caroline.
- 9:58Speaker 3: The Treasury Secretary, Scott Besstt warned that some of these
- 10:01Speaker 3: negotiations might take up to months, that we could be
- 10:04Speaker 3: doing this through April maye into June, and then you
- 10:08Speaker 3: had Kevin Hassett say it's going to take a lot
- 10:09Speaker 3: for the President to put his signature on the lines.
- 10:12Speaker 3: So he wants to make sure there's a good deal
- 10:13Speaker 3: for America. Is the President operating on any sort of
- 10:17Speaker 3: a timeline or deadline where he wants this completed bike.
- 10:20Speaker 2: Well, we always move at Trump speed here at the
- 10:23Speaker 2: White House, which is incredibly fast. I know you all
- 10:26Speaker 2: know that from covering this White House day to day.
- 10:28Speaker 2: The President likes to get things done. But he's very
- 10:30Speaker 2: much focused on ensuring that these deals are good for
- 10:33Speaker 2: the American worker, they are good for American manufacturing, and
- 10:36Speaker 2: again that they tackle these crippling deficits with these countries.
- 10:40Speaker 2: All options are on the table for each country, but again,
- 10:43Speaker 2: these are going to be tailor made deals. They are
- 10:46Speaker 2: not going to be off the rack deals, as the
- 10:48Speaker 2: President has called it. And he has directed his entire
- 10:51Speaker 2: trade team to be part of this effort. So that
- 10:53Speaker 2: includes Secretary Besson and our National Economic Director Kevin Hassett.
- 10:57Speaker 2: It also includes Secretary Lutnik, Peter Tomorrow, the entire trade team,
- 11:01Speaker 2: Jamison Greer who was on the hill today. Everybody who
- 11:04Speaker 2: was involved in this incredible, fair reciprocal trade agenda will
- 11:08Speaker 2: continue to be involved in negotiating these deals.
- 11:10Speaker 3: So yesterday Goldman Sachs put out a research note. It
- 11:14Speaker 3: put the odds of a recession at forty five percent
- 11:17Speaker 3: within the next twelve months, up from thirty five percent.
- 11:20Speaker 3: But Peter Navarro guaranteed last night no recession. Does the
- 11:24Speaker 3: President agree with him on that? I know the President
- 11:26Speaker 3: in the past has been leary of making definitive statements
- 11:30Speaker 3: on that.
- 11:30Speaker 2: I can speak for the President and I can speak
- 11:32Speaker 2: for the optimism that he sees in our economy every day. Again,
- 11:36Speaker 2: when you talk about the massive deregulatory efforts that are
- 11:38Speaker 2: happening across the board, when you talk about how oil
- 11:41Speaker 2: prices are down, gas prices are down, egg prices are down.
- 11:45Speaker 2: We're cutting costs for the American worker, for the American consumer.
- 11:49Speaker 2: We also see trillions of dollars of investments pouring into
- 11:52Speaker 2: this country every day. And we're working hard now on
- 11:54Speaker 2: the tariff side of the President's economic agenda. But don't
- 11:58Speaker 2: forget the next side of this is tax cuts, and
- 12:00Speaker 2: we're counting on Capitol Hill to get those done, the
- 12:02Speaker 2: largest tax cuts in history.
- 12:04Speaker 3: Does that mean that without that those tax cuts coming through,
- 12:08Speaker 3: that the likelihood of a recession is rare.
- 12:11Speaker 2: That's not what I said. I'm just saying, be mindful
- 12:13Speaker 2: of the whole of government economic approach that this administration
- 12:16Speaker 2: is taking. Every day, Sure, go ahead, Thank.
- 12:20Speaker 4: You, Caroline.
- 12:22Speaker 5: You just said that one of the reasons these tariffs
- 12:25Speaker 5: are going into effect is that some countries have been
- 12:27Speaker 5: ripping out the United States. But some of the tariff's
- 12:30Speaker 5: target countries like Madagascar, Bangladesh, it's very high levels of property.
- 12:34Speaker 5: So can you explain how the president wants to correct
- 12:37Speaker 5: the deficits with those countries? Is their plan, for example,
- 12:41Speaker 5: to unsure the textile industry that these countries are known
- 12:45Speaker 5: because and you know, just like can you be specific
- 12:48Speaker 5: about those low income sure?
- 12:50Speaker 2: Well, first of all, the reciprocal tariff rates that were
- 12:52Speaker 2: implemented by country. We're focused on the monetary tariff that
- 12:57Speaker 2: those countries have imposed on the United States, but also
- 12:59Speaker 2: the not monetary tariff barriers and the regulations, if you will,
- 13:03Speaker 2: that have been put into effect over the years making
- 13:05Speaker 2: it harder for America to export to these countries. These
- 13:09Speaker 2: were very carefully crafted numbers. There was also a ten
- 13:12Speaker 2: percent baseline tariff across the board as well, as you know,
- 13:15Speaker 2: moving forward, the President will talk to any country that
- 13:18Speaker 2: picks up the phone to call, and I can tell
- 13:20Speaker 2: you the phones have been ringing off the hook wanting
- 13:23Speaker 2: to talk to this administration, this President and his trade
- 13:26Speaker 2: team to try to strike a deal. And it's because
- 13:28Speaker 2: the world knows that they need the United States of America,
- 13:31Speaker 2: they need our markets, they need our consumer The President
- 13:34Speaker 2: has a lot of leverage on his side because he
- 13:36Speaker 2: has the best economy and the best country in the
- 13:38Speaker 2: world that he leads, and he knows that. And it's
- 13:40Speaker 2: about daying time we finally have a president who uses
- 13:42Speaker 2: that economic leverage to benefit American workers. And that's what
- 13:46Speaker 2: the President is trying to do. Maggie, Caroline, Thanks.
- 13:50Speaker 6: Does the President endorse something that Howard let me said
- 13:52Speaker 6: Intellivision this weekend, which was the army of millions and
- 13:55Speaker 6: millions of human beings screwing in little screws to make iPhones,
- 13:58Speaker 6: That that kind of thing is going to be to
- 14:00Speaker 6: the US. Is that how the President visions manufacturing shifting
- 14:03Speaker 6: and if so, how long would that take?
- 14:05Speaker 2: Roughly, the President wants to increase manufacturing jobs here in
- 14:08Speaker 2: the United States of America, but he's also looking at
- 14:10Speaker 2: advanced technologies. He's also looking at AI and emerging fields
- 14:14Speaker 2: that are growing around the world that the United States
- 14:17Speaker 2: needs to be a leader in as well. So there's
- 14:18Speaker 2: an array of diverse jobs, more traditional manufacturing jobs as
- 14:22Speaker 2: you discussed, but also jobs in advanced technologies. The President
- 14:26Speaker 2: is looking at all of those. He wants them to
- 14:28Speaker 2: come back home with iPhones specifically.
- 14:30Speaker 6: Is that something that he thinks is the kind of
- 14:32Speaker 6: technology that can move to the US.
- 14:33Speaker 2: Absolutely, he believes we have the labor, we have the workforce,
- 14:36Speaker 2: we have the resources to do it. And as you know,
- 14:39Speaker 2: Apple has invested five hundred billion dollars here in the
- 14:42Speaker 2: United States. So if Apple didn't think the United States
- 14:44Speaker 2: could do it, they probably wouldn't have put up that
- 14:46Speaker 2: big chunk of change. Elena, Oh my god.
- 14:49Speaker 7: It's clear the president has gone the world's attention with
- 14:51Speaker 7: these tariffs. Is there is he considering at all potentially
- 14:56Speaker 7: holding off on imposing some of them before the deadline
- 14:59Speaker 7: or meet later, you know, reversing them because he's having
- 15:03Speaker 7: these negotiations and having these good talks with other leaders.
- 15:06Speaker 2: The President was asked and answer this yesterday. He said
- 15:08Speaker 2: he's not considering an extension or delay. I spoke to
- 15:12Speaker 2: him before this briefing. That was not his mindset. He
- 15:14Speaker 2: expects that these tariffs are going to go into effect.
- 15:17Speaker 2: And you said something very important Elena, in your question
- 15:20Speaker 2: you said the president has captivated the attention of the world.
- 15:23Speaker 2: Absolutely he has, and it's about time we have a
- 15:25Speaker 2: president in the Oval Office who is putting the world
- 15:28Speaker 2: on notice and is putting the American people first, and
- 15:31Speaker 2: again is using the leverage of the United States to
- 15:34Speaker 2: negotiate good trade.
- 15:35Speaker 7: I just a quick follow up, there's been some public
- 15:38Speaker 7: sparring between Elon Musk and the President's trade advisor, Peter
- 15:41Speaker 7: Navarro on some of these tariffs. Must actually refer to
- 15:44Speaker 7: Novara today as being quote dumber than a sack of bricks.
- 15:48Speaker 7: Are you what ur is the administration, the President all
- 15:50Speaker 7: concerned that this is maybe impacting the public's understanding of
- 15:54Speaker 7: these tariffs, it might be messing with the message on it.
- 15:56Speaker 2: No, look, these are obviously two individuals who have very
- 15:59Speaker 2: different for reviews on trade and on tariff's. Boys will
- 16:03Speaker 2: be boys, and we will let their public sparring continue.
- 16:07Speaker 2: And you guys should all be very grateful that we
- 16:09Speaker 2: have the most transparent administration in history. And I think
- 16:12Speaker 2: it also speaks to the President's willingness to hear from
- 16:15Speaker 2: all sides that he has people at the highest levels
- 16:18Speaker 2: of this government in this White House, who have very
- 16:20Speaker 2: diverse opinions on very diverse issues. But the President takes
- 16:24Speaker 2: all opinions in mind and then he makes the best
- 16:26Speaker 2: decision based on the best interests of the American public.
- 16:29Speaker 1: Deanna, thanks Caroline on Truth Social today, Trump was talking
- 16:34Speaker 1: about one stop shopping talks with foreign leaders, you know,
- 16:38Speaker 1: bringing leaders to the US, to Washington and talking to
- 16:41Speaker 1: them about tariffs, but also other topics.
- 16:45Speaker 2: So is that part of.
- 16:46Speaker 1: His strategy to bring the leaders to Washington and trying
- 16:51Speaker 1: to get deals, you know, outside of tariffs on foreign
- 16:54Speaker 1: policy issues as well.
- 16:56Speaker 2: I think the President again is going to have a custom,
- 16:59Speaker 2: tailor made up approach to each and every country. And
- 17:01Speaker 2: if that means discussions of foreign aid, of our military
- 17:05Speaker 2: presence in these countries, how those troops are paid for
- 17:07Speaker 2: come to the table, that could be part of the
- 17:10Speaker 2: negotiation in these economic negotiations. But it's the President's economic
- 17:14Speaker 2: team who will be leading these. These are tariff and
- 17:16Speaker 2: trade negotiations, and yes, they will be one stop shopping
- 17:20Speaker 2: for each and every country. They will be as the
- 17:22Speaker 2: President said, again, tailor made, not off the rack, to
- 17:25Speaker 2: each and every country based on America's needs. Think is
- 17:29Speaker 2: a good Tarra from Linda elsb On.
- 17:31Speaker 8: So President Trump is designeded trenday Aragua as a foreign
- 17:34Speaker 8: terrorist organization and deported its members while also moving to
- 17:38Speaker 8: restrict Venezuela's oil exports. Is the administration preparing additional military
- 17:43Speaker 8: or economic actions against Venezuela and the Maduro regime? And
- 17:46Speaker 8: my second question is about Supreme Court Justice Ammykomi barrt
- 17:50Speaker 8: Is the administration have a comment on her decision to
- 17:53Speaker 8: go with the liberals and go actually with the trende Araguas.
- 17:56Speaker 8: This is the same justice that actually cided against January
- 17:59Speaker 8: sixth hostage last year. So is the administration of a
- 18:02Speaker 8: common Are they disappointed in Supreme Court Justice Amy Coomy
- 18:05Speaker 8: Barrett to your.
- 18:06Speaker 2: First question, I don't have any actions to read out.
- 18:08Speaker 2: In terms of Venezuela. The President has imposed secondary tariffs
- 18:11Speaker 2: on the Maduro regime in on Venezuela in the form
- 18:16Speaker 2: of oil, which is obviously going to have a crippling
- 18:18Speaker 2: effect on the Maduro regime. And that's the intended effect
- 18:21Speaker 2: of this administration. As for the justice you mentioned, as
- 18:24Speaker 2: for the Supreme Court, we've made our feelings very clear.
- 18:28Speaker 2: We believe this was a massive victory certainly we wish
- 18:30Speaker 2: this was a nine and nothing decision because we firmly
- 18:33Speaker 2: believed that the President was well within his constitutional authority,
- 18:36Speaker 2: and the Supreme Court made that very clear last night
- 18:39Speaker 2: and they put Judge Boseburg in his place. We called
- 18:41Speaker 2: on the Supreme Court to reign in these judges who
- 18:44Speaker 2: are acting as judicial activists, not real arbiters of the
- 18:47Speaker 2: truth in the law, and that's exactly what we saw
- 18:49Speaker 2: the Supreme Court to yesterday, Christian.
- 18:52Speaker 9: Thanks Carolyne.
- 18:53Speaker 10: Now that the President's reciprocal tariffs are here going into
- 18:57Speaker 10: effect tomorrow, what's the status of the ear When will
- 19:01Speaker 10: they actually start collecting revenue? And will that be nested
- 19:05Speaker 10: under CBP or somewhere else.
- 19:07Speaker 2: Entirely, it is something Secretary Lutnik has taken up, so
- 19:10Speaker 2: I defer you to the Department of Commerce. But it's
- 19:12Speaker 2: something that he and the President believe quite strongly in
- 19:15Speaker 2: and it's something it's a promise that they intend to
- 19:17Speaker 2: keep to the mayor career.
- 19:18Speaker 10: Real quickly, can you explain why the President opt to
- 19:21Speaker 10: send Secretary Hexith to the dignified transfer last week instead
- 19:26Speaker 10: of attending himself.
- 19:28Speaker 2: Sure the Secretary Hegseth was there to represent the administration.
- 19:32Speaker 2: The President has expressed his condolences to these families, as
- 19:35Speaker 2: have I from this podium. Shelby, thank you.
- 19:37Speaker 11: The President's trade representative this morning told senators that the
- 19:41Speaker 11: President does not intend on carving out exemptions for products
- 19:44Speaker 11: and companies when it comes to tariffs, but would the
- 19:47Speaker 11: administration consider changing that stance should bankruptcies begin among US
- 19:52Speaker 11: companies who are dependent on China trade.
- 19:54Speaker 2: I won't get ahead of the President on any exemptions
- 19:56Speaker 2: or his decision on that. I will leave that to him.
- 19:58Speaker 2: But again, we're looking at this country by country and
- 20:01Speaker 2: based on the needs of the American people and the
- 20:03Speaker 2: American workforce.
- 20:05Speaker 11: Or can you walk us through how this specific terror
- 20:07Speaker 11: plan was decided on and which advisor came up with it.
- 20:11Speaker 2: The reciprocal tariff plan, It was a plan that was
- 20:14Speaker 2: discussed by the President's entire trade team over the course
- 20:17Speaker 2: of many, many meetings, and the President ultimately decided on
- 20:21Speaker 2: which way to go. A few proposals were given to
- 20:23Speaker 2: the President, there was debate and discussion, and the President
- 20:27Speaker 2: made his decision. And as you've seen very publicly, the
- 20:29Speaker 2: entire trade team is on board with this plan and
- 20:31Speaker 2: the negotiations that will ensue because of it.
- 20:33Speaker 10: Sure on a ran and given what's going to be
- 20:37Speaker 10: happening on Saturday, what exactly is the current administration doing
- 20:40Speaker 10: to stop Iran's funding of terrorist.
- 20:42Speaker 2: Aggression worldwide that the previous administration wasn't doing well. First
- 20:47Speaker 2: of all, when it comes to Saturday, I won't get
- 20:49Speaker 2: ahead of the president. He has said there will be
- 20:51Speaker 2: direct talks with Iran on Saturday. I won't further any
- 20:55Speaker 2: details from this podium for obvious reason, security reasons, and
- 20:59Speaker 2: will provide an update as we always have. However, when
- 21:03Speaker 2: it comes to Iran, the President has reimposed crippling sanctions
- 21:06Speaker 2: on the Iranian regime and he's made it very clear
- 21:08Speaker 2: to Iran they have a choice to make. You can
- 21:10Speaker 2: strike a deal with the President, you can negotiate, or
- 21:13Speaker 2: there will be hell to pay. And as the President
- 21:15Speaker 2: said yesterday, if they don't choose to move forward with
- 21:17Speaker 2: diplomacy in a deal, which is the direction we do
- 21:20Speaker 2: see them headed in, there will be grave consequences. Today
- 21:23Speaker 2: to the backro, thank.
- 21:24Speaker 12: You Carolin on the President's threat yesterday on social media
- 21:27Speaker 12: to increase tariffs against China by an additional fifty percent
- 21:30Speaker 12: in response to their retaliation. Has he signed anything in
- 21:34Speaker 12: terms of an executive order, any documentation around that. Will
- 21:37Speaker 12: that additional fifty percent go into effect tomorrow?
- 21:40Speaker 2: They will be going into a fact dot twelve one
- 21:42Speaker 2: am tonight, so effectively tomorrow. Yes, work on that today,
- 21:47Speaker 2: of course, as always to the gentleman in front of you,
- 21:49Speaker 2: because that's who I originally called them. Go ahead.
- 21:52Speaker 4: Over the weekend, President Trump said that he would be
- 21:54Speaker 4: willing to have US citizens deported to Al salvo Or
- 21:57Speaker 4: with the cooperation of President Would that work legally and
- 22:01Speaker 4: how many people would potentially be available for that operation?
- 22:06Speaker 2: So the President has discussed this idea quite a few
- 22:08Speaker 2: times publicly. He's also discussed it privately. You're referring to
- 22:12Speaker 2: the President's idea for American citizens to potentially be deported.
- 22:18Speaker 2: These would be heinous, violent criminals who have broken our
- 22:21Speaker 2: nation's laws repeatedly, and these are violent repeat offenders in
- 22:26Speaker 2: American streets. The President has said, if it's legal right,
- 22:30Speaker 2: if there is a legal pathway to do that, he's
- 22:32Speaker 2: not sure. We are not sure if there is. It's
- 22:34Speaker 2: an idea that he has simply floated and has discussed
- 22:37Speaker 2: very publicly, as in the effort of transparency. Reagan, Thank you, Erlan.
- 22:41Speaker 13: There's been more reporting coming out now about President Biden's
- 22:44Speaker 13: declineal in the White House. Is the White House considering
- 22:47Speaker 13: releasing the audio bidence interview with Special Council I've heard
- 22:51Speaker 13: in the public, which the former president had previously blocked.
- 22:55Speaker 2: I don't have an update on that, but I can
- 22:57Speaker 2: certainly check. I think the American people would be quite
- 23:00Speaker 2: interested to hear that tape, but I'll double check on
- 23:02Speaker 2: those days of it, Michael.
- 23:04Speaker 14: Thank you, Carolyn. On Saturday, during meetings with Iran, President
- 23:10Speaker 14: Trump says high level officials will be meeting directly with
- 23:14Speaker 14: Iranian officials. We're hearing some pushback from Iran now saying
- 23:17Speaker 14: those talks will be indirect. Can you clarify they will.
- 23:20Speaker 2: Be direct talks on Saturday? And I won't get ahead
- 23:22Speaker 2: of the president on any further details, Jennifer, Yeah, two
- 23:26Speaker 2: things on the Israel tariffs. Can you give us an
- 23:28Speaker 2: update on the discussion on relaxing those tariffs? And then
- 23:31Speaker 2: I had another question about the dog team after that.
- 23:34Speaker 2: That discussion is ongoing. I don't have any definitive, definitive
- 23:38Speaker 2: details to iron out for you here.
- 23:39Speaker 6: And then The President on Thursday told us that there
- 23:42Speaker 6: was an incredible discovery that the dose team had made,
- 23:45Speaker 6: called it horrible and incredible.
- 23:47Speaker 2: Can you reveal that yet, give us details on what
- 23:49Speaker 2: it was about. There has been a discovery. I hate
- 23:52Speaker 2: to leave you hanging on a cliff, but I don't
- 23:54Speaker 2: want to get ahead of the president on that. But
- 23:56Speaker 2: I can't confer there has been a discovery. It's just
- 23:58Speaker 2: not quite yet ready for release.
- 24:00Speaker 1: Y go ahead.
- 24:02Speaker 2: I was calling on the young lady behind you. I'll
- 24:05Speaker 2: come to you after ed not discriminating here meeting today
- 24:09Speaker 2: with House Republicans. Can you say who is in that meeting?
- 24:12Speaker 3: And his message to Republicans that are skeptical of the
- 24:14Speaker 3: Senate cast budget framework.
- 24:16Speaker 2: Sure, the President will be meeting with Republican lawmakers today
- 24:20Speaker 2: here at the White House to talk to them about
- 24:22Speaker 2: the framework that the Senate passed. The President was very
- 24:25Speaker 2: quick to put out a statement about his support for
- 24:27Speaker 2: the reconciliation package that the Senate passed, and he is
- 24:31Speaker 2: counting on House Republicans to pass it. The Republicans received
- 24:35Speaker 2: an overwhelming mandate from the American public to govern. We
- 24:38Speaker 2: have an extraordinary opportunity. There are key promises that the
- 24:42Speaker 2: American that the President made to the American people in
- 24:44Speaker 2: this bill, tax cuts, securing the border, deregulation, unleashing the
- 24:50Speaker 2: might of American energy. These are good things for the
- 24:52Speaker 2: American people. The President wants to see this get done,
- 24:55Speaker 2: and that's why he's engaging with lawmakers today. Follow up
- 24:58Speaker 2: on tariffs, Kevin Hasset said today that administration is prioritizing
- 25:01Speaker 2: talks with Japan and South Korea other trading partners. Are
- 25:04Speaker 2: the other countries on that list that you guys can
- 25:07Speaker 2: name publicly that you're having serious discussions with. Sure, as
- 25:11Speaker 2: you have heard from various administration officials, myself included, there
- 25:15Speaker 2: have been nearly seventy countries that have reached out to
- 25:17Speaker 2: the administration last time I checked. But again I hear
- 25:20Speaker 2: the phones are ringing off the hook. There are foreign
- 25:22Speaker 2: leaders who want to fly to Washington tonight and get
- 25:24Speaker 2: on a plane to negotiate with this country. Which shows
- 25:28Speaker 2: you the leverage that the President is using. That shows
- 25:30Speaker 2: you the rest of the world needs the United States
- 25:32Speaker 2: of America to do business with Israel. Obviously, yesterday you
- 25:36Speaker 2: heard a public statement from Prime Minister get at Yahoo.
- 25:39Speaker 2: The President has detailed his calls with the leaders of
- 25:41Speaker 2: Japan in South Korea. We are going to prioritize our
- 25:45Speaker 2: allies and our partners around the world first when it
- 25:48Speaker 2: comes to these negotiations, and the Trade team will be
- 25:51Speaker 2: divvying them up again to make tailor made trade deals
- 25:53Speaker 2: around the world. I promise, yes, thank you.
- 25:57Speaker 5: You mentioned the seventy countries or so. I'm curious, though,
- 26:00Speaker 5: under what conditions at this point would President Trump talked
- 26:03Speaker 5: to President she about tariffs.
- 26:05Speaker 2: Look, I've just spoke to the President about this, and
- 26:07Speaker 2: he believes that China wants to make a deal with
- 26:09Speaker 2: the United States. He believes China has to make a
- 26:11Speaker 2: deal with the United States. It was a mistake for
- 26:14Speaker 2: China to retaliate. The President. When America is punched, he
- 26:18Speaker 2: punches back harder. That's why there will be one hundred
- 26:21Speaker 2: and four percent tariff's going into effect on China tonight
- 26:25Speaker 2: at midnight. But the President believes that she and China
- 26:28Speaker 2: want to make a deal. They just don't know how
- 26:29Speaker 2: to get that started. And the President also wanted me
- 26:32Speaker 2: to tell all of you that if China reaches out
- 26:34Speaker 2: to make a deal, he'll be incredibly gracious. But he's
- 26:36Speaker 2: going to do what's best for the American people.
- 26:38Speaker 4: China has to call first.
- 26:39Speaker 2: The Chinese want to make a deal, they just don't
- 26:42Speaker 2: know how to do it. But the President will be
- 26:44Speaker 2: implementing these one hundred and four percent tariffs on China tonight.
- 26:47Speaker 10: Sure what conditions might he considered lowering tariffs on China.
- 26:51Speaker 2: At this point, it would be imprudent of me to
- 26:53Speaker 2: tell you those conditions here from the podium.
- 26:55Speaker 1: Sure, game, Thanks Caroline.
- 26:58Speaker 15: With regards to the Supreme Court rolling on the Alien
- 27:01Speaker 15: Enemies Act, you're right, it was a win for the administration.
- 27:04Speaker 15: But the justices also said that deportees are entitled to
- 27:07Speaker 15: due process. Does the administration agree with that?
- 27:10Speaker 2: That's not quite true, Gabe. They said that they are
- 27:12Speaker 2: entitled to a habeas petition, and we are going to
- 27:16Speaker 2: continue to comply with the law. And we are wholly
- 27:19Speaker 2: confident that every single person that has been deported under
- 27:22Speaker 2: the Alien Enemies Act, every person that will continue to
- 27:24Speaker 2: be deported under the Alien Enemies Act, qualifies for that deportation.
- 27:30Speaker 15: NBC News is reporting that the administration is considering drawn
- 27:34Speaker 15: strikes on drug cartels in Mexico. We're citing several officials
- 27:39Speaker 15: this morning. Mexico's president was asked about that and she
- 27:42Speaker 15: said that we reject any of those actions.
- 27:44Speaker 2: Your response, I saw that reporting. I don't want to
- 27:47Speaker 2: confirm it from this podium. I don't want to comment
- 27:49Speaker 2: on it because I'm not sure, but I would defer
- 27:51Speaker 2: you to the National Security Council.
- 27:53Speaker 15: So you haven't confirmed a report. But with Mexico's president
- 27:57Speaker 15: saying that she rejects any of that, what would your response,
- 28:00Speaker 15: B How is the relationship then between Mexico's president and
- 28:04Speaker 15: the White House right now over targeting drug cartels?
- 28:07Speaker 2: Well, first of all, the relationship between President Shinebaum and
- 28:10Speaker 2: President Trump is quite good, and I think both world
- 28:13Speaker 2: leaders would tell you that the President has been engaged
- 28:16Speaker 2: directly with President shine bamb on a number of different topics,
- 28:19Speaker 2: particularly when it comes to clamping down on the Mexican
- 28:22Speaker 2: drug cartels, on clamping down on illegal immigration, human trafficking,
- 28:26Speaker 2: drug trafficking through our southern border. She's taken significant steps
- 28:29Speaker 2: towards doing that. But as for that specific report, again,
- 28:32Speaker 2: I'm not going to comment.
- 28:33Speaker 9: Caroline two questions on trade, First, as a part of
- 28:38Speaker 9: these negotiations, is it possible for countries to lower their
- 28:42Speaker 9: tariffs below that ten percent bare minimum that's been said.
- 28:46Speaker 2: Again, I'll leave that to the President to make those determinations,
- 28:48Speaker 2: but I can tell you that ten percent universal baseline
- 28:51Speaker 2: will go into effect as these negotiations are ongoing.
- 28:53Speaker 1: Got it?
- 28:54Speaker 9: And then what is your thinking just as far as
- 28:57Speaker 9: low labor cost countries, Like if you've got a country
- 29:00Speaker 9: Vietnam that wants to negotiate, but obviously they have some
- 29:03Speaker 9: advantages in terms of trade, in terms of the people
- 29:06Speaker 9: that are not paid as much as American citizens, what
- 29:09Speaker 9: is kind of the thinking can they still achieve a
- 29:11Speaker 9: good kind of trade outcome with the United States.
- 29:14Speaker 2: Well, again, you're right to point out that different countries
- 29:17Speaker 2: have different labor markets, they have different skills, if you will,
- 29:20Speaker 2: different resources, and the President is going to take all
- 29:23Speaker 2: of that into account. His team will take all of
- 29:25Speaker 2: that into account when they're negotiating these deals. I do
- 29:28Speaker 2: just want to point out one thing that the president.
- 29:31Speaker 2: Everybody in Washington, whether they want to admit it or not,
- 29:34Speaker 2: knows that this president is right when it comes to
- 29:37Speaker 2: tariffs and when it comes to trade. In fact, Democrats
- 29:40Speaker 2: have long said that the United States of America has
- 29:43Speaker 2: been ripped off by the countries around the world. They
- 29:46Speaker 2: just don't want to admit it now because it's President
- 29:48Speaker 2: Trump who is saying that. In June of nineteen ninety six,
- 29:50Speaker 2: Nancy Pelosi spoke on the House floor. She urged her
- 29:54Speaker 2: colleagues at the time to fight against the status quote
- 29:56Speaker 2: trade policies that had contributed to America's trade deficit with
- 30:00Speaker 2: In fact, Nancy Pelosi said, how far does China have
- 30:03Speaker 2: to go? How much more repression, how big a trade deficit?
- 30:06Speaker 2: How many jobs have to be lost for the American workers?
- 30:09Speaker 2: How much dangerous proliferation has to exist before members of
- 30:12Speaker 2: this House of Representatives will say I will not endorse
- 30:15Speaker 2: the status quo. Those are the words of Nancy Pelosi
- 30:18Speaker 2: in nineteen ninety six. While President Trump is finally answering
- 30:22Speaker 2: her call twenty seven years later, Nancy Pelosi can thank
- 30:26Speaker 2: President Trump today for the one hundred and four percent
- 30:28Speaker 2: retaliatory tariff that will be going into effect on China.
- 30:31Speaker 2: In two thousand and seven, Chuck Schumer spoke of our
- 30:34Speaker 2: nation's crippling trade deficits, saying, these are the kinds of
- 30:37Speaker 2: records the American people don't want us to be breaking.
- 30:39Speaker 2: The administration needs to move beyond words, take action now
- 30:43Speaker 2: to reverse a trend that threatens our prospects for future
- 30:45Speaker 2: economic growth. And Chuck Schumer said that in two thousand
- 30:49Speaker 2: and seven. Finally, in twenty twenty five, President Trump is
- 30:53Speaker 2: taking action. Recently defeated Democrat Chared Brown said on deficits
- 30:57Speaker 2: in twenty and twelve that our deficit, but then at
- 31:00Speaker 2: China had reached an all time high and it was
- 31:03Speaker 2: on pace to recede last year's record. The trade deficit
- 31:06Speaker 2: had cost American workers millions of jobs at the time.
- 31:10Speaker 2: These are the words of Democrats years ago. It is
- 31:13Speaker 2: about time America finally has a president who is taking
- 31:16Speaker 2: action to restore those millions of jobs back to the
- 31:19Speaker 2: United States of America, to boost our manufacturing industry. He's
- 31:23Speaker 2: doing what's right for the American people. It will take
- 31:25Speaker 2: a lot of labor, it will take a lot of effort.
- 31:27Speaker 2: That's exactly what the American people elected this president to do.
- 31:30Speaker 2: He will be talking about our energy agenda at three
- 31:33Speaker 2: o'clock today over in the easter. As you all know,
- 31:35Speaker 2: he will be signing a bill to unleash the might
- 31:39Speaker 2: of our beautiful clean coal industry. In this country, which
- 31:43Speaker 2: is a reliable energy source. Also for AI. There's a
- 31:46Speaker 2: great story in Bloomberg today actually about the executive order
- 31:49Speaker 2: that we'll be signed later. So we'll see you all there.
- 31:51Speaker 2: I'll let the President speak more. We'll see you later.
- 31:53Speaker 2: Thanks guys.
- 31:54Speaker 10: You
