- 1:47[SPEAKER_04]: What's that great?
- 1:47[SPEAKER_04]: Go over it.
- 1:48[SPEAKER_04]: He had a promise for it.
- 1:50[SPEAKER_04]: When I was a little kid, if we got to come to Klum to Lincoln once a year, it was a big deal.
- 1:55[SPEAKER_04]: I'm the little boy.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_04]: So I had to drag with my mom and she'd take up to the, she was the seamstress.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_04]: So we'd go to whatever floor where you'd buy, where she'd buy stuff.
- 2:04[SPEAKER_04]: But make us shirts, which we never like to have shirts made by Mom if that's what it was.
- 2:09[SPEAKER_04]: Your mom was a seamstress, really, in Columbus.
- 2:13[SPEAKER_04]: If she did it on the farm, didn't home, she made all her own dresses and.
- 2:16[SPEAKER_04]: No kidding with a, with a little with a little sewing machine.
- 2:20[SPEAKER_04]: With a rather rather incredible.
- 2:22[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, how people can get a pattern.
- 2:26[SPEAKER_02]: I remember that they came in those little like an envelope.
- 2:28[SPEAKER_02]: Have they get these patterns out there like out of like tissue paper, right?
- 2:31[SPEAKER_02]: And they could make, they could make.
- 2:33[SPEAKER_03]: Address from that and I'm like how do you do this all any time I ran into a sewing machine I just stare at it How does this work to do that how do you do this?
- 2:44[SPEAKER_03]: I'm surprised you ever saw one in your life You're so young, you know, yeah, don't don't you come on cover 60 yeah, wow the governors in here and thanks for being so kind to the people including my ex wife out there Yes, well, Rick's a You're telling a guy that your ex wife came and said
- 3:04[SPEAKER_02]: Well, I'd put the person in another chance.
- 3:05[SPEAKER_02]: We've asked everyone who sits in that chair, Mr.
- 3:08[SPEAKER_02]: Governor.
- 3:09[SPEAKER_03]: They're thinking about getting back together.
- 3:11[SPEAKER_03]: Really not.
- 3:12[SPEAKER_02]: They're thinking about getting together.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_02]: Didn't give any advice on what you would do with that.
- 3:16[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, it's all right.
- 3:18[SPEAKER_02]: It's all right.
- 3:19[SPEAKER_02]: It's all right.
- 3:20[SPEAKER_02]: I'm not very good.
- 3:21[SPEAKER_04]: The governor is coming in on you.
- 3:22[SPEAKER_04]: I'm your married.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_04]: I'm speechless.
- 3:24[SPEAKER_04]: I'm speechless.
- 3:26[SPEAKER_03]: You don't want to weigh in on this one.
- 3:28[SPEAKER_04]: It's not a Coastal Browse boy.
- 3:30[SPEAKER_04]: It's a Coastal Browse boy.
- 3:31[SPEAKER_03]: Hell anything in here.
- 3:37[SPEAKER_03]: Thank you, Governor.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_03]: Thank you for stopping that one.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_04]: Happy birthday.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_04]: Happy birthday.
- 3:45[SPEAKER_02]: Well, just tell us so you're you told me briefly out there about what you're doing this weekend.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, tell us about what the this celebration Yeah, you know, I will tell you there's number one this weekend.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_04]: It is really, really important to 250th anniversary of the greatest nation history of civilization
- 4:04[SPEAKER_04]: We, our team has been busy working this year in the celebration of it and one piece of it is putting together a Nebraska pavilion in the mall in Washington DC with the most every other state and so their celebrations were going out to Suzanne there going out tomorrow so we'll be there at Friday evening we'll be on the mall most of Saturday and then we'll be at the
- 4:28[SPEAKER_04]: the pond on festivities, that'll be taking place.
- 4:33[SPEAKER_04]: Governor Bergen, when he was governor of North Dakota, and befriended me, Doug Bergen was just a great human being.
- 4:39[SPEAKER_04]: I saw where he had to present in North Dakota yesterday with the Thomas Jefferson Library that was open there.
- 4:47[SPEAKER_04]: celebrating that but he's sector of interior now and I hear that the greatest place in Washington D's DC on 4th of July is the rooftop of the sector of interior building.
- 4:59[SPEAKER_04]: So that's where we'll be for part of the night.
- 5:01[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, how about that?
- 5:03[SPEAKER_04]: Doug told me make sure you bring headsets some kind of air protection.
- 5:07[SPEAKER_04]: He said, I'm not worried about you, but Suzanne needs to have it so because it's really loud there.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_04]: But it's so that'll be fun and we'll be on a festivity on the pond, we'll just the pond is cleaner and out or whatever the do the story, it's been a big story so that's going to get that thing cleaned up a little bit.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_04]: But it's awesome and I do think hopefully everybody that's listening, you know, let's let's put all this other stuff away.
- 5:30[SPEAKER_04]: Let's be appreciative of
- 5:33[SPEAKER_04]: the time we can live today and celebrate who we are for 250 years.
- 5:38[SPEAKER_04]: Our country is not perfect, but it's the best one in the history of civilization.
- 5:42[SPEAKER_04]: We should be able to do that for a day.
- 5:43[SPEAKER_04]: We can do that for a day.
- 5:44[SPEAKER_04]: We can do that for a day.
- 5:45[SPEAKER_04]: We can do it for a day.
- 5:46[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe try two days.
- 5:47[SPEAKER_04]: Maybe it could become three.
- 5:48[SPEAKER_04]: It could become three.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_02]: Also, it could work.
- 5:49[SPEAKER_02]: They become a big deal.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_02]: All of a sudden, they hey, that'd be kind of cool.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_01]: Nope.
- 5:55[SPEAKER_01]: We're seeing people.
- 5:56[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, the soccer team is still alive in the world of cops.
- 5:59[SPEAKER_01]: So there's that people are coming together for that as well.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_01]: I think he paused the last night they played July 6 in Seattle against in against Belgium.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_01]: So we're seeing some patriotism with the soccer team.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_01]: Good help.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_04]: And you know, and it's the great thing about living in Nebraska and about sports is it brings us all together no matter what and we love coming together no matter what we're playing to.
- 6:24[SPEAKER_04]: chair to be behind the team.
- 6:26[SPEAKER_04]: And those are the things that are incredible about sports.
- 6:29[SPEAKER_04]: It's incredible about our communities and the state and the rowskins, incredible about the state and the rowskin are universities.
- 6:35[SPEAKER_03]: I don't want to be divisive here, but there is a critical question we have to ask about Columbus.
- 6:39[SPEAKER_03]: Godfather's good enough.
- 6:40[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, yeah.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_03]: Yes.
- 6:41[SPEAKER_03]: Keep this in.
- 6:42[SPEAKER_03]: Okay.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_03]: So don't.
- 6:43[SPEAKER_03]: Don't.
- 6:44[SPEAKER_03]: He's the on the question how you ask it not because he'll try to lead you He voted.
- 6:49[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, hey, this is going to be a really good.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, so Godfather's you know where that is He's a wide-eyed doctor.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_03]: I had a How would would you say that dairy queen is across the street from Godfather's?
- 7:03[SPEAKER_03]: Relatively That's a win.
- 7:05[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, that's a win.
- 7:07[SPEAKER_02]: Thank you.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_02]: That's what I said.
- 7:09[SPEAKER_02]: No, we just say.
- 7:10[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, we say yes
- 7:14[SPEAKER_02]: It got grossed.
- 7:15[SPEAKER_02]: The governor said, but we're almost at the cross of the city.
- 7:18[SPEAKER_02]: Yes.
- 7:20[SPEAKER_02]: Can you open up the city?
- 7:21[SPEAKER_02]: I see it.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_04]: Columbus.
- 7:27[SPEAKER_04]: He is Columbus.
- 7:28[SPEAKER_04]: Well, see a bills pinner, you know, and I'm gonna roll you kind of get it, right?
- 7:32[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, no, that's not a cross.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_04]: Some big cities.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_04]: Take it on the government.
- 7:38[SPEAKER_03]: It's a hundred yards down the road.
- 7:40[SPEAKER_03]: It is out.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_04]: Well, I don't sweat it is for each of us, right?
- 7:44[SPEAKER_04]: It's true.
- 7:45[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, I don't know.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_04]: Down the street in regards, whatever it is.
- 7:47[SPEAKER_04]: Did you go to that godfather's?
- 7:49[SPEAKER_04]: Well, you know, it's really incredible.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_04]: Godfather's was one in Columbus, Nebraska would have been the second or third franchise that Willie would have started if you get Willie on, he'd tell you in Larry Smith.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_04]: And Larry's past now, but a great guy.
- 8:04[SPEAKER_04]: And you know, it's still, it was started in 1974.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_03]: I wonder when that building in Columbus went up.
- 8:09[SPEAKER_03]: You think it was shortly after that?
- 8:12[SPEAKER_02]: Was it always in that location?
- 8:13[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, always in the location.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_04]: I don't, you know, I just think in that.
- 8:17[SPEAKER_02]: building was a bar before that, but it might have been, but anyway, that's a long time.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_04]: I'm not, yeah, it's, and still tremendous brand, tremendous business, people run it.
- 8:27[SPEAKER_04]: forever.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_04]: Great people.
- 8:29[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, that's a great God father.
- 8:30[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_02]: And when you guess, if it's the old school one, too, that's what's nice about it.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_02]: It's the old school.
- 8:35[SPEAKER_02]: And that's nice enough that the governor knows it.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, he works.
- 8:37[SPEAKER_02]: That's just a cross.
- 8:38[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_02]: It's a bad day.
- 8:40[SPEAKER_02]: Oh, man.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_01]: Birthday.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_01]: You get.
- 8:41[SPEAKER_01]: That's okay.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 8:42[SPEAKER_01]: It's okay.
- 8:43[SPEAKER_04]: But I appreciate your honesty.
- 8:44[SPEAKER_04]: But I'm 10 years younger than SIP just for that.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_04]: How could that be?
- 8:49[SPEAKER_04]: I don't know how that will be.
- 8:50[SPEAKER_04]: But that's what I am.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_04]: I'm 50.
- 8:51[SPEAKER_04]: I'm not.
- 8:52[SPEAKER_04]: I'm not a 70, because yeah, what's up in the crowd?
- 8:55[SPEAKER_02]: Impossible.
- 8:57[SPEAKER_02]: Now, do you get excited now when time on the fourths over now?
- 9:00[SPEAKER_02]: Things kind of turn towards football.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_02]: Is that something that's, does that still I'm sorry?
- 9:04[SPEAKER_04]: I'm excited for it before the fourth.
- 9:06[SPEAKER_02]: Fourth, yeah.
- 9:07[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah, it's just tremendous time of the year.
- 9:10[SPEAKER_04]: I look forward to reading.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_04]: We just finished up.
- 9:14[SPEAKER_04]: I had a great experience.
- 9:15[SPEAKER_04]: So we have
- 9:16[SPEAKER_04]: Young kids, college kids work in intern in our office and we had Danny Kaylin.
- 9:23[SPEAKER_04]: Oh, wow, I do want a extraordinary young man, Danny just has leadership skills.
- 9:29[SPEAKER_04]: He has, you know, he just has the it factor when he meets people and interacts.
- 9:34[SPEAKER_04]: So he was, we gave him all the hard calls when people came to call them and said, they were unhappy.
- 9:40[SPEAKER_04]: We still can't get it over to Dan, he'll be with them.
- 9:42[SPEAKER_04]: But he's a great young man, great young person, and so he's really excited about their team.
- 9:49[SPEAKER_04]: He's really excited about the kind of people that they have on their team, and he'll be great leader on this team.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_04]: He's disarming, he's disarming, and that he's easy to talk to.
- 10:01[SPEAKER_04]: He's just a natural.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_04]: He can engage with anybody anywhere any time.
- 10:07[SPEAKER_04]: He treats everybody the same.
- 10:09[SPEAKER_04]: He's a really impressive young man.
- 10:11[SPEAKER_02]: So in phone calls come in, they're not always super positive telling you how great things are going there.
- 10:15[SPEAKER_02]: Sometimes there'll be someone that has a situation.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_02]: There's a couple percent that come in.
- 10:20[SPEAKER_04]: You never know that.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_04]: You know, and it is important.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_04]: It's important that people can call in and their voice can be heard and they're listening to.
- 10:27[SPEAKER_04]: And it's important.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_04]: And it's okay because God forbid if we all agreed on everything.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 10:34[SPEAKER_04]: God forbid if we did.
- 10:36[SPEAKER_04]: Because, you know, here's the cool part that has come to me in this role in celebrating our 250th anniversary of freedom.
- 10:46[SPEAKER_04]: We are the basis and the nightest of any idea, any idea, any one of us has, we can do something with it.
- 10:54[SPEAKER_04]: only in America can that happen.
- 10:56[SPEAKER_04]: And it's incredible when you think of all the certainty is that come about and get, get, get, get legs under them and they fly.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_04]: It's pretty really good.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_02]: Come on, get through it, get stool.
- 11:08[SPEAKER_02]: It's just something like that.
- 11:11[SPEAKER_03]: God forbid that we'd agree on everything.
- 11:14[SPEAKER_03]: That's a good one.
- 11:15[SPEAKER_04]: I appreciate that.
- 11:16[SPEAKER_04]: It's important that that's why who we are because we can debate.
- 11:20[SPEAKER_04]: We can, we can make ourselves better by, uh, uh,
- 11:25[SPEAKER_03]: They're been two good quotes on this show today.
- 11:28[SPEAKER_03]: Intermittent donors, you know, God forbid that we agree on every day.
- 11:33[SPEAKER_04]: Thank you.
- 11:34[SPEAKER_04]: You're becoming full of softly.
- 11:35[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_04]: He's out there.
- 11:37[SPEAKER_02]: Mark Manning called in and he talked about intermittent fasting and then.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_01]: and simple to spend a minute and don't it's there every half of our mark or know about you know in a minute and fasting that's it's like that yeah I got to think of it it you know you got to be pretty proud of this state right now because of the you know the athletics we talked about basketball run this week 16 the course baseball had a great year host and regional softball to the
- 12:03[SPEAKER_01]: College World Series and we just had Mark Manning and also if finished third and Nationalism among other great years for was brought to you before.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, you was.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, it's got, I mean, the sports have all done very well.
- 12:13[SPEAKER_01]: This year's got to make you very proud.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_01]: I would think of the state in that regard.
- 12:16[SPEAKER_04]: Well, it's, you know, it's just fun for all of us, right?
- 12:18[SPEAKER_04]: And I don't know.
- 12:19[SPEAKER_04]: Forget, don't forget, ladies volleyball.
- 12:22[SPEAKER_04]: Absolutely incredible.
- 12:23[SPEAKER_04]: And, you know, and, um,
- 12:25[SPEAKER_04]: So it's, it's, it's, it's great stuff.
- 12:27[SPEAKER_04]: We can, we can do a non-side volleyball match in another ninety-two thousand people would show us.
- 12:33[SPEAKER_04]: Probably, it's just, it's just who we are in Nebraska and it, like I say, we love to cheer on our sports and, it's, it's been a great year and we,
- 12:42[SPEAKER_04]: have a lot of great kids coming back so there's no reason why we won't have a lot to cheer about in twenty six twenty seven.
- 12:48[SPEAKER_03]: What was your second best sport?
- 12:50[SPEAKER_03]: Ooh.
- 12:51[SPEAKER_04]: Great question.
- 12:52[SPEAKER_04]: I love basketball.
- 12:53[SPEAKER_03]: You were a hooper?
- 12:54[SPEAKER_04]: I was a hooper.
- 12:55[SPEAKER_04]: Did you play for Orr?
- 12:57[SPEAKER_04]: I played for a guy named Dennis Garrity.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 13:01[SPEAKER_04]: He came to Columbus like to be my senior year.
- 13:04[SPEAKER_04]: Right.
- 13:04[SPEAKER_04]: He came from New York City and his claim to flame.
- 13:08[SPEAKER_04]: He was a third team on New York City
- 13:12[SPEAKER_02]: Well, that's a pretty good play in a you game is mean that I got the ball into Lou Yeah, yeah, that's a not one.
- 13:21[SPEAKER_04]: You know, so when I played basketball There was not a shot.
- 13:25[SPEAKER_04]: I did not like
- 13:27[SPEAKER_04]: I bet you were a scrappy defender.
- 13:30[SPEAKER_04]: I could do that, but I'd love to shoot.
- 13:32[SPEAKER_04]: Yeah.
- 13:32[UNKNOWN]: Yeah.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_03]: I don't like that scrappy defender tag.
- 13:35[SPEAKER_03]: Easy means you can't do this.
- 13:36[SPEAKER_03]: Easy means you can't do this.
- 13:38[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 13:38[SPEAKER_04]: Scrappy hard.
- 13:39[SPEAKER_04]: No, she got a stiff one.
- 13:41[SPEAKER_04]: Well, also.
- 13:43[SPEAKER_04]: You know, a guy that, in my time here, first trip that I traveled to was LSU in 1976, and a guy, you know, you get on the bus, and when you're a sophomore, then, and make the trip you sit where you're told you be quiet, and I sat, I was by myself up in the front, who sat next to him, and he was Joe Soprano.
- 14:04[SPEAKER_04]: really and he's just set he was such an awesome guy and he talked to me the whole way to from the airport in New Orleans to Baton Rouge and we became friends I would go over and watch practice with him once in a while and yeah he was he was a great guy when Suzanne I were living in Manhattan getting my doctorate and
- 14:25[SPEAKER_04]: in Nebraska come down the case state.
- 14:26[SPEAKER_04]: I'd go see him and then he was real sick at the end.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_04]: I saw him probably a month before he passed, but you know, another great legend that has been a part of Nebraska making and who it is and, you know, Joe Supriano was a really special guy and he had some great basketball teams.
- 14:44[SPEAKER_04]: He was the coach when the fabulous Fred
- 14:51[SPEAKER_04]: the top set uh... michigan in the old policy and they were number one what's that governor that's pretty good so you've been so you attended games in the call scene yes that's what you go watch games in the what was that like that was spent at so uh... in nineteen so we didn't the vani senator didn't come to my third year in college so the first two years we watch games in the call bob grab
- 15:19[SPEAKER_04]: I mean, crowd could shoot from the third row, you know, he was unbelievable.
