- 0:00well as we did last week uh you weren't here for that Dan unfortunately and you
- 0:03haven't heard the episode yet but um as I explained one of the biggest
- 0:07complaints we've had not complaints but just suggestions was uh we introduce
- 0:11ourselves because particularly foreign listeners not familiar with the
- 0:15Australian accent um get us confused sometimes they think we all sound the
- 0:19same yeah so um well that is blatant racial discrimination I agree uh but since
- 0:26that's what we specialize in we should probably accommodate them yeah okay that's fair
- 0:30so my name is Matt I'm Luke and I'm Johnny [ __ ]
- 0:37Pig all right don't ever try to make me do something seriously it's just not
- 0:41going to happen that's I think you'll find that even more amusing when you
- 0:44listen to last week's episode
- 0:46yeah oh okay A bit of reverse
- 0:52foreshadowing fair enough welcome to multiple
- 0:58nerdgasm your destination for all things
- 1:03nerdy all right so it's good to have you back with us actually thank you good to
- 1:07be back we miss we missed you I think I was on a jungle island on the day that
- 1:12you recorded which is why I couldn't be part of it yeah that would have been
- 1:16nice pretty good excuse really look um it wasn't nice I'll be honest I've been
- 1:20to this island five times in the last two weeks it's um it's called Pula ubben
- 1:25it is a nice Island but it's very hot and very humid and and it's just a
- 1:29jungle um and when you arrive on the island you have to get there by boat as
- 1:33you do with most islands really um it really does look like Jurassic Park and
- 1:39not only that but while I was there I saw the largest lizard I've ever seen
- 1:44and I don't just mean a big lizard I'm talking like 2 m long lizard like a
- 1:49kimono dragon I thought I thought it was a
- 1:51crocodile uh and um is it was it was small Croc sized and it was just it
- 1:58crossed my path and um I just about wet myself so
- 2:04wow so maybe I was in Jurassic Park maybe I was we can only hope yeah so sorry I
- 2:11couldn't be here but I was in Jurassic Park it sounds like you're in the new
- 2:14Jurassic Park though where they've got all the Kinks worked out not the old one
- 2:17where it just all goes to [ __ ] you mean the new one where the Velociraptors
- 2:20actually help you and run alongside your bike yeah I I think this is going to be
- 2:24a boring film to be honest like they've got everything figured out the park open
- 2:29it's just businesses usual I don't know why they bothered making it to be honest
- 2:31I mean make the actual Park if it's all working now yeah why not I'll go and see
- 2:36the park but I don't want to watch a movie about nothing going wrong at
- 2:39Jurassic Park that's right I don't know well I guess we'll it remains to be seen
- 2:44maybe maybe something interesting will happen well the movie itself remains to
- 2:46be seen exactly so when's that out is
- 2:50that out September uh it's pretty soon I think I don't know July you're you're
- 2:56just throwing out months now no it's June July because Lego Jurassic Park
- 3:00comes out soon oh really yep Lego Jurassic Park comes out next month so it
- 3:05must be June it comes out okay I'm going to play the [ __ ] out
- 3:09of that speaking of Wonders of science we have discussed this before but I I
- 3:14just saw this article today and it's a it's a newer article it's from the 22nd
- 3:19um and it's about this guy this uh Italian surgeon who wants to do a head
- 3:25transplant yeah uh I don't know why they keep calling it that it's not a head
- 3:28transplant you can't transplant a head it's a body transplant so you're splitting hairs
- 3:34there Matt well half and half isn't it no it's not because you are your
- 3:41head right yeah I see I I see your distinction
- 3:46yeah so that that's the issue I take with the wording but this one is
- 3:50interesting in that um though should really call this an everything but a head
- 3:55transplant that's right exactly exactly so there's a few things about this
- 4:00article that um that caught my attention yeah um one is that they they somewhat
- 4:05more than than previously as far as I'm aware they describe uh kind of how the
- 4:10operation will go and that is um the operation will last about 2 days
- 4:17mhm first the patient's head will be cooled down and then
- 4:21removed it will then be attached to another body the spinal cords of patient
- 4:26and donor will be cut and the head will be moved across to be fused used
- 4:30together muscles and blood supply would then be attached and the patient would
- 4:33be left in a coma for about a month to prevent movement during this time the
- 4:38spine will be stimulated with electrodes to strengthen nerve connections
- 4:43so they're going to kill the person mhm and then move move his head yes to a
- 4:50different body well I mean is there a way to remove a head without killing
- 4:57someone that's not the part of this that surpris me is what I'm saying well this
- 5:02the thing that surprises me the most about it is in order to that're saying
- 5:05the head gets cooled down right so they're saying okay we're going to
- 5:07freeze the head I guess to freeze just cool down they need to basically slow
- 5:12down the blood supply well they need to stop they need
- 5:16to stop brain damage from occurring I assume which is the issue here now if
- 5:20they're able to do that successfully and Transplant this head I'll use their
- 5:26terminology for the sake of it mhm surely this translate to other areas for
- 5:32example if I have an
- 5:34illness um where you know uh say I'm
- 5:39dying of exactly then you could just pop my head on another body surely once this
- 5:43is perfected so um this is pretty interesting if he can do it I I
- 5:49mean really the most terrifying thing is going to be waking up with a different
- 5:55body attached to you yeah I mean the the president of the American Association of
- 5:59neurological surgeons has offered this quote um I would not wish this on anyone
- 6:06I would not allow anyone to do this to me this is a fate worse than death
- 6:12y um so that's a respected member of the scientific community's opinion here um
- 6:18and even even the surgeon himself has has claimed that this will be quote
- 6:24unimaginable consequences I think he meant it in a good way but I'm just not
- 6:29sure I mean at best we got Frankenstein
- 6:32[ __ ] here and at worst I don't know what well the the person that they've
- 6:39got who's volunteered for his surgery um I don't think he sees it as a fate worth
- 6:43and death I think he sees this as his last chance yeah cuz he's dying anyway
- 6:47so he figures I might as well but I mean look if I'm going to die anyway I might
- 6:51as well not become a Frankenstein and I want that to be heard by everyone
- 6:55listening all right that I might as well does not count here people have
- 6:59pychological issues having much less than their whole body transplanted like
- 7:04you get a new arm some people there've been cases where people have had to have
- 7:09their arm removed again and said I don't want it I don't want that arm I'd rather
- 7:12have no arm because it's there there's some psychological [ __ ] that goes along
- 7:16with it and I mean just waking up with a different body like I said it's not a
- 7:21head transplant it's a body transplant and the other thing that bugs me the
- 7:24most about this article is the final paragraph I'm going to read it out to
- 7:27you and this is this is the surgeon talking he also said people are worried
- 7:31the procedure will be confined to the rich one of the reasons behind the
- 7:35critics is that many wealthy people will want a new head as they will be the only
- 7:40ones who could afford the surgery right they can't have a new head this is the
- 7:45surgeon speaking the other thing that he says that's along that here we go we're
- 7:51one step closer to extem life indefinitely because I'll be able to
- 7:54give a new body to an 80-year-old that they could live with for another 40
- 7:57years yeah but the head will be 120 that's right it doesn't work like that
- 8:04that's right so the as soon as the brain begins to well I mean we don't really
- 8:08know what's going to happen I guess the person has Alzheimer we do
- 8:12know what will happen nothing because this is not possible there is so many
- 8:18millions of little [ __ ] nerve endings that would need to be connected up to
- 8:21the exact right nerve it will not work but just the fact that the surgeon
- 8:26himself can't grasp the concept that you can't just put a new head on somebody
- 8:31you are your head like that's where your brain is if you get a new head that
- 8:35means somebody else just has your body like I don't understand how the guy
- 8:40doing the surgery does understand the concept unless unless he thinks that I
- 8:46mean maybe maybe Consciousness doesn't reside in the head maybe I'm wrong but
- 8:51[ __ ] that's going to be confusing no the one thing I don't understand is they've
- 8:55got the guy who's volunteered to have his head transplanted where's the body
- 8:59coming from well uh I don't think they've said but I no and cuz I've read
- 9:04about this a bit before and they never talk about where this body's coming from
- 9:08I think I read an article that said it was coming from people that filled out
- 9:12the form but didn't pay the money for the Mars one uh
- 9:19oh yeah Kickstarter I mean someone who's died in an accident perhaps where the
- 9:24body is still viable I don't know yeah he's going to get one from somewhere
- 9:30it's just ah this is just really strange and I don't see how it can work and I
- 9:34especially don't based on the fact that the surgeon doesn't seem to understand
- 9:38how the human body works so I think if I want any quality
- 9:42in a surgeon that's it though isn't it understanding of how the human body
- 9:46works I it maybe we know too much and that's why we've never done it so I have
- 9:52heard of stories of this being successfully done before with monkeys
- 9:56yeah yeah live for a day or two I'll you it couldn't control the body no yeah I
- 10:03don't think successfully is the right word for that they managed to stop it dying straight
- 10:09away yeah they attempted it and they managed to keep a freak alive for a
- 10:13whole day yeah and if monkeys could speak English it would be yelling kill
- 10:18me kill me now that's the other thing right if if you're able to drop
- 10:22someone's head off put it on a new body and then using um how does he how do he
- 10:28how does it get word oh the spine will be stimulated with electrodes to strengthen nerve
- 10:32connections right well why not try that on a paraplegic first cuz apparently
- 10:36that's a [ __ ] miracle you're able to perform now yeah and like slowing down
- 10:40the bluff all of that it's like yeah maybe you should work on each of these
- 10:42individual things first that individually could have quite an impact
- 10:46on medical science right and then work on your sci-fi stuff
- 10:50later no all in all in why not [ __ ] head transplant I this is going to bring
- 10:56all sorts of uh crazy moral dilemas though too isn't it I mean what if I
- 11:03want my head put on a person's
- 11:07body you know what if I want to run fast and have an enormous [ __ ] you know until
- 11:12I'm like [ __ ] it head transplant black body what if you wake what if you what
- 11:17if you're really racist and you wake up and they've done that and you're like
- 11:21it's been a mistake yeah and they're like well nothing we can do now no and
- 11:26I'll be like well you're wrong because I've seen you do it once do it again yeah
- 11:31again could a man's head be put on a woman's body and then would he have to
- 11:36take a 30% pay cut or you just come back after 30 days
- 11:41and you're like look it's within the warranty period I'm just not really not
- 11:43happy with this one can I exchange it for something else something a bit muser
- 11:49perhaps down here yeah this is yeah this is weird yeah could be like
- 11:56listen listen I need the new body but I'm quite attached to my old penis
- 11:59could I keep the dick could you do a dick transplant onto the body and then a
- 12:03head transplant onto the body look uh I'm I'm I'm I'm happy to be getting a
- 12:07new body but I don't want my wife [ __ ] some other guy so we going to
- 12:10have to get my dick on this body will he be able to feel it the guy whose head
- 12:14used to belong this [Laughter]
- 12:20[ __ ] well we have two years to wait we do we do and speaking of uh of
- 12:26Consciousness and uh and things like that they kind of bring
- 12:29around to something I wanted to talk about which is a
- 12:33film that I asked you both to watch by the name of chappie yeah and I did okay
- 12:39all right fact I finished it about half an hour ago you
- 12:44think did you think Luke I didn't mind it but I think they skipped major parts
- 12:50of the story to probably to cut it down okay CU there some bits I'm just going
- 12:55how did they jump from that to that okay and what did you think Dan
- 13:01how much time have we got I just we've got plenty of time I am baffled by Blum
- 13:07cam I'm absolutely [ __ ] baffled by him because he is such a such an amazing
- 13:13thinker and he conceptualizes these wonderful things but he just can't write
- 13:18and direct to save his [ __ ] life like this movie was I mean for starters I I
- 13:24don't know how he pitched this um to Executives other than maybe saying have
- 13:28you ever watched that C3PO from Star Wars was in
- 13:33Robocop like I tell you actually I do know a sort of how the pitch went um and
- 13:40it was something like here's the story yeah it's like RoboCop um blah blah AI
- 13:45events you know puts it into the body of this this um robot and they went oh that
- 13:49sounds really good that's really good and he's like right okay cool and now um
- 13:52one other thing we need to cover uh guys come on in um please meet ninja and
- 13:56Yolandi yeah who will be playing themselves but also their band exists in the
- 14:02universe cuz that's the only music they listen to and their C covers are on the
- 14:06wall it's [ __ ] baffling they're even wearing their own t-shirts in some I
- 14:11know y he addressed that somewhat he said and I think this is his explanation
- 14:16is that in in his head the movie actually takes place in a world where
- 14:20they were the band at one point M um and they're so
- 14:24narcissistic that like because they are just they're just their characters
- 14:28because I mean Ian I believe ninja and Yolandi are they're characters in that
- 14:34band like they're not that's not they're not real people they're they're they're
- 14:38people portraying those and they're very very rich people
- 14:43portraying those [ __ ] squalled people that's right and so they're basically
- 14:48playing they are their characters from D
- 14:51the in the film yeah so I don't know I I
- 14:56I really liked it the film I I can see what people didn't like about it and
- 15:01they're they're right like it's very flawed but I really liked it I really
- 15:07enjoyed it I do have one question though is s weer Now typ
- 15:11cast in every single movie I've seen her in lately she's playing this executive
- 15:16that's sort of single-minded she's playing the same character now um um
- 15:21Cabin in the Woods um even Paul she
- 15:24played the same character it's true yeah but not only that that character was
- 15:29basically also just the character from blong Camp's previous film there just
- 15:34always got to be this power hungry woman it's just it's like that Blom Camp comes
- 15:39up with great ideas and then just the dialogue in this movie was like the [ __ ]
- 15:45I was writing in high school that I'm now embarrassed to read like there's no
- 15:50subtext in his films it's just every character just says what they're
- 15:53thinking all the time and right from the start too and there's this really weird scene
- 15:59where the [ __ ] Dev Patel character says to
- 16:05to chappie I don't want you to do this I don't want you to do that and I don't
- 16:08want you to do that but most importantly I don't want you to listen to people
- 16:11when they tell you you can't do stuff it's like what is somebody reading this
- 16:17script back with a red pen like it really reeks of a first draft
- 16:23there are that many plot holes and there's just so much good in this movie
- 16:29which made made me so angry that I wasn't enjoying it because if a movie is
- 16:34just [ __ ] that's fine I can watch and enjoy a [ __ ] movie but a movie that is
- 16:38striving to be something better but that tries in some ways and then just doesn't
- 16:42try in other ways just it's the worse for me I can't stand it anyway let's me
- 16:48how where did you stop at what point did you stop oh I stopped we're going to
- 16:51talk about spoilers I guess so maybe it's fine look quite honestly here's
- 16:54here's my day this morning I went to watch chappie and I realized I had
- 16:58downed so I started watching another movie that had downloaded called Only
- 17:02Lovers Left Alive the Vampire movie and I turned that off so that I could watch
- 17:07chappie and after this after this I'm going to watch the the second half of
- 17:12Only Lovers Left Alive put it that way so you can spoil chappy all you want
- 17:15because quite honestly I I don't know if I'm going to watch the end at what point
- 17:18did you stop happen they're teaching him to use nunchucks did you see where did you see
- 17:24what the the car theft stuff and all that I thought those were the funniest bits
- 17:29no no no no no when he they teach they
- 17:32teach cuz you know that he his maker okay so for listeners who don't know the
- 17:38film is about uh it's set in South Africa all of his films all of Neil Blum
- 17:43Camp's films are set in South Africa and it's in the near future and there's a
- 17:47robot police force called they're called Scouts and they uh kind of take over the
- 17:53dangerous job of of [ __ ] upholding the law in in South Africa because
- 17:57there's all these gangs and stuff uh and then the guy who invented the the
- 18:02scouts comes up with an AI uh and he wants to put it in one of the robots to
- 18:05test it out but so going says no we don't want that we want these robots
- 18:09because the police are giving us a lot of money for these robots we don't want
- 18:12something perfect and smart we want more of these robots please so we can have
- 18:15more money and so he steals the body of
- 18:18one of the robots uh puts the AI in it he steals the body of the robot because
- 18:24their security is so LAX you a can steal a robot B when they realize you have
- 18:29stolen it they ring you and say can you please return that by the end of the day
- 18:33or I'll have to tell your supervisor I like there's a few things like that that
- 18:38I know that it sounds silly but it was kind of made me laugh and I I didn't you
- 18:42know like at least they addressed it like for example he's clearly shown like
- 18:46they make a point of showing him on video camera like security camera
- 18:51stealing the robot and and at times bringing him back and like sneaking in
- 18:55and out and just no one gives a [ __ ] like they make it pretty clear that that
- 18:59this is a this is a real company where no one gives a [ __ ] like he's he's
- 19:04clearly captured on video camera stealing equipment stealing [ __ ]
- 19:09Robots coming back at one point shot and like sneaking the robot in and stuff
- 19:15like that like all sorts of silly stuff like that I don't know I felt like it
- 19:18had its tongue in its cheek a lot about that kind of stuff and um and so yeah he
- 19:24puts the AI on the robot but then he he gets kidnapped well he and the robot get
- 19:27kidnapped by uh by diw um and they want to make the
- 19:34robot into a gangster robot so that they can um get enough money to pay back the
- 19:39big drug dealer that they owe money to and then uh the advertising made it seem
- 19:44like it was going to be kind of an existential thing about you know life of
- 19:47robots and you know whether an AI is a human that kind of stuff but it's mostly
- 19:52about ninja and Yolandi trying to make a gangster robot like that's mostly what
- 19:56it's about and yeah the bit that I thought was the funniest is because his
- 20:01his maker the I can't remember his name character's name now de character um he
- 20:08tells him you can't hurt people and you're know you're know allow to use
- 20:12guns you're not allow to kill people and you're not allowed to commit crimes and
- 20:15so ninja tells him that people keep stealing his cars and so he needs him to
- 20:21help get him back and teaches him to carjack people and so it's this just
- 20:26this hilarious sequence where he's like like ripping people out of cars and like
- 20:31you shouldn't steal at them and like stealing their cars it's very funny I
- 20:35liked it and then later on they teach him that um cuz he's not allowed to hurt
- 20:39people they he's not all to shoot people but he doesn't know what a knife is and
- 20:43so they teach him that knives make people go sleepy time and um have him
- 20:48stab the security guards uh guarding this armored vehicle and he yelling you
- 20:54go to sleep now and like stabbing them I know it just made me laugh see like it
- 21:01it's all very charming and this idea of this kind of powerful robot with the
- 21:04mind of a child who's still learning and all it's it's a beautiful metaphor you
- 21:07know and it's and there's so much and the visuals of this movie are so great
- 21:11as well like it's shot immaculately and this robot is just amazing yeah the the
- 21:17CG is like but then you've got clawless you've
- 21:21got Hugh Jackman right yeah his character was hilarious and I I couldn't
- 21:28work out like why is an Australian actor doing a fake Australian
- 21:33accent yeah and say and saying things like um oh he's dumber than he's D
- 21:39dumber than a dunny rat and I was like I know you Jackman doesn't talk
- 21:45like that and I know he knows Australians don't talk like that I know
- 21:49but his character was so ridiculous like like pulling that gun in the office and
- 21:52they go n it's just a prank his character was the same character from um
- 21:56RoboCop yeah exactly exactly and it's another example of where clearly this is
- 22:02not a world where people care about that kind of stuff cuz yeah he pulls a gun on
- 22:05him and then later on I don't know did you see the scene where you know he's
- 22:08built that big the it's basically Ed 209 209 he's built Ed 209 the Moose so he's
- 22:13built his his answer to the crime problem was this giant robot with
- 22:17[ __ ] rocket launchers and it's got giant shears for cutting people in half
- 22:22which one thing I didn't understand even when he's trying to sell it to the
- 22:25police they're going we don't need this that was one of my favorite scen I did like
- 22:29for Army he is well over the top it's got service missiles it's got uh
- 22:35bazooka what do we want that for and this is here to stop Petty crimes right
- 22:40yeah we've got uh some bank robberies and he's like yep surface to a
- 22:45missiles I don't know I I thought he was pretty F and then you didn't you
- 22:49wouldn't have seen the end but he goes [ __ ] psycho at the end sure he does
- 22:52I'm sure he does no it's not that I didn't like it I don't want to come
- 22:56across like I don't like it it's just there's so much to like and so much that
- 23:00I just literally don't get like I just feel like I'm not in on a joke or
- 23:06something it's definitely not a you know it does ask some interesting questions
- 23:12but it doesn't answer them yeah and that's fine but it was I felt the same
- 23:15watching this as I felt watching Avatar where I'm like all of the components to
- 23:20an amazing movie are here why isn't this making an amazing
- 23:24movie yeah cuz the other thing I mean there's stuff in this that would
- 23:28normally pissed me off in a film but I don't know why for some reason I didn't
- 23:30mind it in this like for example you wouldn't have seen this either I don't
- 23:33think but later on chappie figures out how to transfer Consciousness right
- 23:39that's what I was about to bring up cuz that part that part annoys me cuz that
- 23:42made no sense how he just I can do this now he he gets there's a the Moose the
- 23:48big the big robot hu Jackman's robot is controlled via that interface where he
- 23:53puts the helmet on and he controls it with his mind right so it's it's a
- 23:56neural interface and so chappie takes takes one of those interface things the
- 24:00helmets and he hooks it up to a bunch of PlayStation fours and um and write
- 24:06software that can save State basically your Consciousness so it can take a
- 24:13imprint of your Consciousness your you know yeah basically and save it onto a
- 24:17USB stick right and while he's doing all this he still thinks that stabbing
- 24:21people just sends him to sleep yeah and
- 24:24so later on he um he transfers his Consciousness into a new body when he's
- 24:30about to to his batter is about to go flat but not only that the same device
- 24:36Works to transfer humans and so that there's two cases where that happens and
- 24:42uh normally that would piss me off because that just doesn't make any sense
- 24:45like and first of all I should be clear about that transfers human consciousness
- 24:50into one of the robots right which yeah so I mean if it
- 24:57doesn't make any sense so if you if you wanted if you wanted hard sci-fi this is
- 25:00not it no well even at one what at the start of the movie they sort of point
- 25:04out he's only got 5 days worth of power and they made a point of at the start
- 25:08and then never mention that again oh they did they they mentioned that his
- 25:11battery's fused in and he can't change yeah but they never really there was no
- 25:15real oh my God he's going to die right until the end when yeah when he just did
- 25:20yeah I I assumed that was going to be a big part of it was it they've got a a
- 25:23time limit on it did that just not into it no okay no no no I mean I like you
- 25:28recharge battery your phone oh no no he he can't recharge the battery no no but is
- 25:33a in when he transfers to new robot like it's no oh yeah yeah yeah right his his
- 25:39body robot yeah his body is conveniently broken in a way that means that he will
- 25:45die and therefore yeah is it makes it like Blade Runner sure yeah but the one
- 25:52thing I didn't quite understand at the end cuz Yolanda gets shot yeah but he's
- 25:56already made a backup of her yeah and so they're going to bring her back to life
- 26:00with this backup but that's not her yeah every other conscious transfer they did
- 26:06it was instantaneous that body dies that went there see that's another
- 26:10interesting thing and we're not I mean we're not going to solve that that's a
- 26:13existential problem where it's like the teleportation thing in
- 26:17um in the prestige where if you are just
- 26:22a copy well you're not the same person but you wouldn't know that you weren't
- 26:26the same person and so like so long as you're the one that survives
- 26:30it doesn't matter well it's like you know a teleporter Works in theory by
- 26:36pulling your body to pieces and then reassembling it on the other end out of
- 26:39the same types of pieces and then hopefully that's still you but it might
- 26:43not be for all we know the person that was you is dead now and if they ever
- 26:47actually invent a teleportation device it will instantaneously disprove all
- 26:53religion sure instantly and with no argument with no argument with
- 26:58whatsoever like if if you can if you can rebuild a human exactly the same and
- 27:03they still have the thoughts of feelings emotions then than they used to with new
- 27:07particles then that just means there is no such thing as a soul yeah I mean look
- 27:13we know that already but yeah cuz another question along those lines is if
- 27:18you're say you live out a day right yeah and then you have an accident where you
- 27:24lose the memory of that day and so as far as you're awake you wake up the next
- 27:29day um and you don't remember the day that happened before at alled so you
- 27:33didn't you didn't learn any lessons but your body you still experien that are you the same
- 27:38person well there's also an interesting thing like when you look at a photo of
- 27:42yourself um so if I look at a photo of myself from Sydney for example that
- 27:48picture that I took with Terry smallo just before I left yep um is that me
- 27:53because that person has never been to Singapore and I live in Singapore
- 27:58sure so that that can't be the same person as I am and the other thing is
- 28:04too actually uh you know like we're talking transferring Consciousness from
- 28:07one body to another um you know we saying people have said oh you can't do
- 28:12that and I I would question whether that's feasible but I mean we once a day
- 28:18most of us uh are not conscious for for many hours like you go
- 28:24to sleep like I mean what the [ __ ] what happens then like well not only that but
- 28:29every 5 years your cells completely replace themselves oh yeah so you don't
- 28:35have any cell in your body except uh Luke and I do because we have tattoos um
- 28:41but they don't replicate but every every other cell in your body was not there 5
- 28:47years ago yeah right so anyway chappie uh n out of 10 it doesn't really delve
- 28:52into any of that stuff but it does touch on it and it and in discussions about it
- 28:56online uh cuz I I don't know found it I liked it and I wanted to see what other
- 28:59people thought of it because I know that it didn't get good reviews but I really
- 29:02enjoyed it and I I I mean I can see why people didn't and I I do agree it's got
- 29:06some weird [ __ ] in it it's not um I don't know as well thought out as
- 29:13it could have been yeah that's all it is it's not the weird [ __ ] me it just it
- 29:17just needed to be more thought out as you said and bl C baffles me because
- 29:23District 9 is amazing and District 9 is all those things it's a
- 29:31he pige himself as this guy that robots AFA movies fine if that's your Niche and
- 29:37you want it to be that then that's fine because that's really cool but he's
- 29:41proven himself to be a onetick wonder and a onetick pony all all at the same
- 29:45time and it's so weird like when you
- 29:49develop a niche and then you can't even stay on track within your own Niche
- 29:54that's just I don't know it's worrying well we'll see how he does with
- 29:59the the new alien because that's happening now apparently so look I'll
- 30:02watch the end of it I'll watch the end maybe maybe once I've seen some funny
- 30:07car ceiling stuff I'll I'll change my
- 30:09tune all right um the other thing uh apparently I don't know whether this is
- 30:15true or not because again I don't know how much is how much of anything is true
- 30:18with these people I mean Ninja and Yolandi um the rumors that
- 30:23onet uh Ninja in particular caused a lot of problems and uh one of the actors
- 30:29this is true because I've seen an interview with him um you the guy who
- 30:32played hippo the guy they owe the money to yeah yeah uh he hates him hates ninja
- 30:38and says that he'll he'll never work with him again and uh and that when
- 30:41somebody like that wants to come and tell him how to do his job uh he just
- 30:44doesn't have time for him um wow and there was also there was an article
- 30:48written that said that the that they um they were just trying to tell all the
- 30:52actors how to how to act and and they were um they were saying that they were
- 30:56vegans and they wouldn't eat any of food they wouldn't eat with any of the other
- 30:59cast but then they would go into town and just go like get fish and chips or
- 31:03something and uh and then so everyone B apparently everyone had the shits with
- 31:07them but then uh I read another interview with Neil Blom Camp who said
- 31:11that that they got along fine and he he he was it's his idea to bring them into
- 31:16the film and you know their friends his wife and him have dinner with them all
- 31:21the time uh and then there was an interview with Ninja that said no that's
- 31:24a lot of crap people just kind of L on to the fact that our characters are are
- 31:31like that they think they like to to play that up and say that we're like
- 31:35that but you know we get along with everybody and I don't know I just don't
- 31:40know I find them interesting I maybe that's another reason that I like the
- 31:42film is because I just find them interesting yeah I find them interesting
- 31:45too I mean I have all their albums and I've they work with a lot of great
- 31:48directors on their music videos and stuff and I I find I do find them interesting I
- 31:54just it it wasn't even that they were bad
- 31:58they they were perfectly good they were good as anybody else they like they were
- 32:02as good as sigoni Weaver's terrible performance do you know what I mean like
- 32:07sure that's just the thing it's like it's like a complex Story dumbed down to
- 32:13the point where this reads like a kids movie which would be fine except that
- 32:17the characters constantly say [ __ ] in both English and Africans do you know
- 32:23what I mean and it's like yeah who is this for sure Matt tell me it's a
- 32:30parody and then I'll you know what I mean like tell me that I'm supposed to
- 32:34be thinking like this I think yeah I think it's supposed to be more like
- 32:37RoboCop than maybe people thought you know like cuz RoboCop has a lot of these
- 32:44same problems except it's quite obviously like well RoboCop's a satire
- 32:49in itself that's what I mean so I think maybe this was intended to be more like
- 32:53that than than than we realize or people yeah than maybe even it it really you
- 33:00know makes it apparent that it is yeah like I don't know I think it should if
- 33:04it was going down that way it should have actually gone for it not yeah
- 33:08you're probably right I mean looking back on it the more I think about it the
- 33:12like I it's the silly bits and the and the fun and the the high Jinks that I
- 33:17remember about it fondly like thinking about it again like I I would watch it
- 33:21again I really enjoyed it and but it's not like I said it's not a hard science
- 33:25fiction film and it's not the thought-provoking stuff in it that I
- 33:30enjoyed it's the goofy sure um characters and the action and the and
- 33:36you know the funny the funny stuff you know yeah yeah but if they set it up to
- 33:40be like yeah but that's what I mean if they set that up I could have just went
- 33:45back and relaxed and watched it instead of kind of making me think at the start
- 33:49that this was going to be something that it wasn't yeah you probably probably
- 33:54right I'll watch the end yeah watch even just for hug Jackman going crazy and Mur
- 34:00people the action sequence is pretty good I think well I mean if the one
- 34:03thing that Blum does well it's action sequences yeah there's some good stuff
- 34:07there so so I assume Jackman's in the [ __ ] Mech at the end is he yeah well
- 34:12this is the weird thing he's not in the mech he controls the mech right yeah
- 34:16also it's a bit funny too because she goes because stuff he he sabotages the
- 34:21Scouts and then things start going haywire and then he goes bursts in the
- 34:25office and he's like [ __ ] let me let me let me use the moose let me get the
- 34:28Moose out this is what I've been waiting for this is this is the this is the
- 34:30Moose moment mhm and so she's like fine use the Moose to take down that robot
- 34:36chappie and he goes right and then just tries to [ __ ] murder everybody
- 34:42yeah it's great I do like his mullet it's ridiculous I do like they've
- 34:48gone how do we portray this guy like an absolute fuckt without having to say
- 34:53anything I know he's got a mullet we'll give him a mullet I'm sorry I think
- 34:57that's another thing that should have committed to a bit more should be more
- 35:01of a mullet more mullets more mullet you've got to have a mullet get a real
- 35:05one well I suppose y's got quite a mullet going on yeah she
- 35:11does well new Blum Camp you're our geek of the week
- 35:17yeah of the [Music]
- 35:22week hello did that cut out or did I cut out did did you guys even hear that
- 35:26where is Matt dead I think Matt went away oh Matt hang on
- 35:31hang on you're week every
- 35:35week of the
- 35:39week oh can you hear me too little too late Matt we've moved on yeah can you
- 35:46hear me yeah we can [ __ ] hear you now we can oh what the [ __ ] happened I don't
- 35:50know but when you finally did kick back in it was kind of at the same point that
- 35:54you left halfway through the geek of the weak jingle which makes Mak me think
- 35:58that you actually lost some time buddy maybe I
- 36:03did was that weird for you too Luke it was
- 36:08cuz cuz it was like no no no stop doing it stop doing it it's freaking me out I
- 36:14needed to play through through then you disappeared for about 30 seconds and
- 36:18then it came back and finished oh it was like oh
- 36:23man Matt look at your iPhone what does
- 36:26the time say what do the exact time 1011
- 36:30uh no that's what I've got as well so speaking of Science Fiction um MH mhm
- 36:37there's another a big film coming out at the end of the year by the name of Star
- 36:41Wars episode 7 never Force awakens no not aware of that no all right well
- 36:47that's fair enough but um Little Indie movie is it yeah yeah you never heard of
- 36:52the Star Wars prequels the Star Wars no I haven't heard of that no okay well
- 36:56that's awkward because uh I remember I don't know if you recall I did interview one of the
- 37:03stars of the prequels uh sometime ago oh um JJ Binks that's him that's him yeah
- 37:09yeah um well I managed to secure another exclusive interview oh oh yeah um this
- 37:15time with uh with an actor by the name of Anakin Skywalker
- 37:19oh yeah he he is Anakin meod actor it's a conceit for the for the purpose of
- 37:25this interview so it's kind of like Yol ninja exactly right exactly yeah so it's
- 37:30it's Anakin Skywalker playing himself yeah exactly in the Star Wars
- 37:35movies so yeah exactly uh and he agreed
- 37:38to do an interview um so uh it's pretty exciting it didn't quite go as planned
- 37:45um but I mean it's probably worth worth playing anyway because um well you'll
- 37:51see why yeah we'll be the judge um all right here we go Mr Skywalker thanks for joining me
- 37:57you're shorter than I expected well I'm
- 38:01sitting down why I was going to
- 38:06interview you for the podcast I
- 38:09understand okay okay um please take a
- 38:13seat yes thanks again for agreeing to be on the show um could you tell us a
- 38:18little bit about your experience working on the Star Wars prequels don't ask me to do
- 38:22that it's like that is it got some stories you could tell us no
- 38:28right you you really just don't want to
- 38:32talk about it why are you asking this of me well it's the reason I asked you to
- 38:38come on the show you said you said you'd be willing to come on and discuss the
- 38:41Star Wars films and you said so sorry what do you don't don't drink that don't
- 38:48worry no really that's Terry's moonshine and I'm not sure it's for human
- 38:52consumption just intoxicated yeah I'm sure it is you all right well you've
- 38:58drunk the whole bottle that's just great he's going to [ __ ] kill me I want
- 39:01more you can't have more why because it's not mine it's Terry's and he's a
- 39:06[ __ ] psycho you can't have anymore it's unfair what how old are you what
- 39:12did you say you're acting like a spoiled teenager I've given up trying to argue
- 39:16with you get get out of the cupboard there isn't any more of it in there liar
- 39:20well I didn't know it was there like I said it's not mine if you're suffering
- 39:24as much as I am please tell me what well I mean this isn't the best
- 39:29interview I've ever done but it's not fair what are you doing don't worry
- 39:33don't pour that on what you're covered in it what are you what the [ __ ] are you
- 39:37doing the Jedi turned against me don't you turn against me why did you say that
- 39:42like it's a question what are you going to put no put the lighter down don't
- 39:47don't do that I will be the most powerful Jedi ever what the [ __ ] you're
- 39:51a [ __ ] psycho put the lighter down Jesus Christ he's on fire you
- 39:54underestimate my power [ __ ] Maniac [ __ ] I need to I need to call the fire
- 39:59brigade I hate you yeah hello yeah fire
- 40:04department what yeah sure yeah I I'll hold yeah I'll
- 40:13hold and that was uh was Anakin Skywalker oh Matt you've excelled
- 40:17yourself star of the Star Wars freels so
- 40:22um in his final interview oh man I wonder if he's going
- 40:28to the same Heaven that that dwarf that I interviewed that set himself a light
- 40:32went to could be could be I like to think they're together
- 40:38now speaking of that um we had someone
- 40:42send in
- 40:45uh send a little picture as part of our
- 40:50capture mystical creature competition what Darcy sent us in a picture of a a
- 40:56little guy who was is uh looking for some pets yeah out in the wild oh yeah I
- 41:02remember that thanks Darcy yeah man good
- 41:07show we need more we need more of them um that was a good catch it was a good
- 41:12catch in fact that's the second pet store [ __ ] sighting that we've had on
- 41:16this show the other one yeah was a staff member of a pet shop so now we've seen
- 41:23both sides of it dwarves buying pets dwarves selling pets
- 41:28pets but we haven't seen a dwarf pet
- 41:31yet as in a dwarf that is the pet of
- 41:35someone like a dwarf rabbit so listeners get on to that get on to that yeah if
- 41:42you do happen to see uh a dwarf or any other mystical creature like a for you
- 41:47know like Mr tumus out out you know may he's at the Vivid Festival in Sydney um
- 41:53it's getting specific and you yeah well why not capture a picture of him send uh
- 41:58send it in podcast at multipl nerdgasm tocom M nerdgasm on Twitter multiple
- 42:03nerdgasm on Facebook uh we're on Google Plus somewhere um [ __ ] 4 on Snapchat
- 42:10send uh pictures of dicks I believe you've gotten some dick pics Luke thanks
- 42:14Behemoth I was going to say a listener told me that they sent you some dick
- 42:19pics got a couple of dick pics from Behemoth now Behemoth I mean that sounds
- 42:23like a big dick
- 42:28but I want the opposite I want dwarf dicks sent to my Snapchat okay so all
- 42:34right what is your Snapchat I don't know it's probably just my name isn't it let
- 42:37me see why does everyone know what they are I don't even think I have you on
- 42:42step chat Well mine's just the same as what it is on everything everyone like
- 42:46mine's not hard to find listeners in fact if you can guess what mine is send
- 42:49me a snap uh you'll win a prize I don't know what it is yet but um but do it and
- 42:54then we'll we'll figure it out
- 42:59all right I think I just won a prize as soon as that comes
- 43:04through all right awesome it was this easiest prize I've ever had to [Laughter]
- 43:10win no not as easy as Luke who entered our big head mode competition the other
- 43:16week even though that was the first literally the first entry was from Luke
- 43:21oh really so and I was right you got the you got the question right Luke you did
- 43:26yeah you other people L family got the question right I
- 43:29noticed yeah that's true I wonder how they got the answer it's all I didn't
- 43:33tell anyone no I just like that we've got listeners and speaking of listeners
- 43:37um this week it was uh Comic Con in London and um Simon The Unofficial fifth
- 43:44member of our podcast oh yeah yeah uh was there representing a multim orgasm in his I
- 43:50summon hoodie yeah so uh thanks Simon
- 43:54shout out to you and speaking of I summon uh those of you who backed us on
- 44:00the kickstarter you'll already have seen it uh will have sent the link out and
- 44:03the rest of you you get to see it soon I think you get to see it in a week
- 44:09of listening to this episode if you listen to it on the day it gets released
- 44:12that's right otherwise maybe it's already out but anyway we we did it it's
- 44:16it's ready and uh you'll have it soon and uh just briefly if if you want to
- 44:21support the show U we don't have another Kickstarter at the moment but if if you
- 44:24like the podcast and you'd like to hear us do more segments and more funny
- 44:27things like interview more Star Wars characters or other silly [ __ ] like that
- 44:32uh you can back us on patreon um you can offer to to backers for you know a
- 44:37couple of bucks an episode or something like that you can set a maximum amount
- 44:40every month and uh and help support the show and we pledged on there we'll do
- 44:45we'll do more segments and and more things I need to fix that up actually
- 44:48maybe fix up the reward tiers a bit uh so I'll try and get that done by the
- 44:51time this goes out and uh and come on everybody let's all band together and uh
- 44:56and make us rich I want to give you guys I want to give stuff out again but I
- 45:00want I don't want to I want to get some money back for it
- 45:03first more prizes more prizes but you want the listeners to pay for it well
- 45:10it's expensive to send [ __ ] all right yeah I know it is it
- 45:14is well speaking of Kickstarter there were a couple of big kickstarters lately
- 45:21and it's it kind of revealed something about Kickstarter in particular indie
- 45:25games on Kickstarter that I thought was interesting um there was an article on
- 45:29polygon about it um I don't know if you guys recall we talked about this Peter
- 45:33mullu a bit yeah um about how he uh when they put their game on Kickstarter they
- 45:40they low balled it because they wanted to just make sure they get some money
- 45:45and then they'd figure it out later even though it's not even remotely enough
- 45:47money to make a game right and apparently that's happening a lot uh one
- 45:52example is there's a new game blood stain which is uh made by the people in
- 45:57made Castlevania the original 2D
- 45:59Castlevania um and they asked for uh I
- 46:05think what $500,000 originally um however in their
- 46:11defense they were pretty transparent about it he said um they have got
- 46:16Publishers ready to give him the the other $7 million or whatever it takes to
- 46:21actually make the game but he had to prove that there was a market for it
- 46:25okay okay well the kickstarter the $500,000 for the kickstarter was was
- 46:30supposed to do that except on the kickstarter there's kind of a breakdown
- 46:34of where the money is going to go and all this kind of stuff and what some of
- 46:37these Indies are saying is when they do [ __ ] like this in accurate yeah yeah
- 46:42because basically what they're doing is they're saying we can make this big AAA title for
- 46:47$500,000 and so when these Indies come on and they want to make a smaller game
- 46:51and they need you need I mean you need money to make a game let's be realistic
- 46:54people I don't know what the I don't even I don't see what the problem is
- 46:57people want you know $10 $20,000 to make an indie game and people are questioning
- 47:02them on where the money's going because they think that this game got made for
- 47:06$500,000 it didn't it cost them it's going to cost like 7 or8 million to make
- 47:10that game yeah and the $500,000 on
- 47:14Kickstarter is just to get publisher
- 47:18interest so when when an indie T an indie gets on there and says they need
- 47:24you know1 $200,000 to make a game don't question then that's how much it costs
- 47:28like think about how much you get paid right a year and then think about how
- 47:33long it takes to make a game like a year to two years or whatever and then do the
- 47:38maths and yeah and whatever it whatever you get paid times two plus more money
- 47:44because you have to pay for other stuff that's how much it gain
- 47:48costs yeah like I I don't see why's so difficult about yeah that's fair I know
- 47:52because i' I've actually backed a few games on Kickstarter and I have a look
- 47:56at it and yeah it might look like they're asking for a lot but I know
- 47:59they're not no because it's when you think about it it's a big chunk of time
- 48:05and and it costs money like yeah it's not it's money that they need money to
- 48:11live off that's right they need to draw a salary so they can pay their rent buy
- 48:17food and everything they also need to buy equipment they might need to get
- 48:20other people to help work on it and hire them like it's yeah I don't know what
- 48:24people are thinking well here's the thing kick start is just supposed to be
- 48:28like a platform for pre-sales right so it's not supposed to be this kind of
- 48:33weird magical illusive thing it's supposed to be we're going to make this
- 48:37game if you all buy it now before we've made it then we'll have the money to make
- 48:42it but that's that's not always the nuts and bolts of it especially if you've got
- 48:48a studio who's going oh I'm going to give you $7 million well it's not
- 48:52necessarily pre-sale either because you you on Kickstarter in theory you should
- 48:57be paying more than it would cost you to buy the game because you're also funding
- 49:00the development of the game not just the um you're not just buying the game like
- 49:04for example I mean we learned a lot with um with I summon right by the time we
- 49:09got the money from Kickstarter they took the fees out by the time we fulfilled
- 49:12all the backer Rewards well there wasn't any money left there was literally no
- 49:16money left yeah and and if it wasn't for the fact that we already had had you and
- 49:21the skills and and the various other skills that we had we had the ability to
- 49:24make it um anyway but we were able to make it better and we were able to have
- 49:29some cool um you know merch for the for the backers and stuff but it wasn't like
- 49:33we got pizza yeah yeah we didn't go out and just spend 500 bucks on on no we
- 49:38didn't you know a Lamborghini yeah we didn't even spend 500 bucks on [ __ ]
- 49:43video equipment we no that's right we spent 500 bucks on having a
- 49:48Kickstarter yeah we spent 500 bucks on getting everybody the [ __ ] that they
- 49:53asked for in the kickstarter because we were a bit naive about it it costs money
- 49:56to organ all that [ __ ] yeah like and so I don't know like there's this Indie
- 50:02developer and they said they worked out how much it would cost them to make the
- 50:05game fulltime and they're like there's no way people are going to give us that
- 50:10on Kickstarter they're just going to give a [ __ ] about it so what they said
- 50:13was if we were to do this in our spare time how much money would we need to buy
- 50:17the licenses and the art assets and all that kind of stuff uh about 10 grand all
- 50:22so they made a Kickstarter for 12 Grand because Kickstarter takes a percentage
- 50:26Yeah and then still people were like what do you want so much money for hey
- 50:32but here's the thing [ __ ] off don't what why I just don't understand why you
- 50:36would even criticize if this is not something you want to put money into
- 50:39don't do it you know what I mean like nobody criticizes the stock market in
- 50:44this way like nobody goes why would you buy shares in oil like you just wouldn't do
- 50:50it you know I just don't understand the
- 50:54criticism at all the
- 50:59is it's video games in particular it seems like it's something about Gamers
- 51:03that just like to [ __ ] win I think the the big companies doing this stuff
- 51:08where they they lowball it so that they get attention and then they move it onto
- 51:13a publisher to get the real money I I think Kickstarter needs to do something
- 51:16about it because it is clearly it's causing a problem where people
- 51:22undervalue like the what it the game like how how much it cost to make a game
- 51:27like if if we were going we we've talked about making a multiple nerdgasm video
- 51:31game right and if if if we were going to quit our jobs and work on that like I
- 51:37reckon it could take 6 months to a year right and we could make something y y
- 51:43right not for $10,000 no no like if I said we got 10
- 51:47grand guys quit your jobs you'd be like [ __ ] off that's right look and here's
- 51:51the thing if you pay 30 50 80 bucks for a game
- 51:57right in the store all you care about is whether you enjoy the game or not you
- 52:02never once ask or have any way of finding out what that game cost as soon
- 52:07as you know what it cost to make then suddenly your expectations are skewed by
- 52:13that number you know and and I think that that is that is
- 52:18damaging yeah yeah totally I mean I've got this weird thing happening right now
- 52:23it's the same thing with my film we made a feature film for less than 20 Grand
- 52:27which is a lot lot of money out of your pocket but it's not much money when
- 52:30you're speaking about a fidget film and we have half the people giving us the
- 52:34advice of oh my God you need to tell everybody that this cost so little so
- 52:38that they like take that into consideration when they watch it so that
- 52:43they'll be more impressed by it we have half the people telling us no no no you
- 52:46need to tell people you spend a million dollars on this so that they believe you
- 52:50cuz that's what it normally costs to make this so that when they buy it off
- 52:53you that's what they give you yeah right yeah yeah like [ __ ] knowing the back
- 52:59end of everything it just creates these weird conundrums and I think Kickstarter
- 53:04is just bringing that all out with games especially like who cares if car if a
- 53:10game cost half a million bucks did you like the game that's right who [ __ ]
- 53:16cares that's the problem is that you're making you're you're getting these
- 53:20people who who want to who get want their fingers in the business like I I
- 53:24mean nerds on the internet clearly are
- 53:28how do we say fickle and uh yeah and
- 53:32like they like to medal in things and so when you give them access to your game
- 53:39like at the front end like then they're going to they're going to be a pain in
- 53:44the ass potentially yeah you know yeah like it's kickstarters created this
- 53:49environment where yeah exactly people think they know what something costs but
- 53:53they don't really because again like people were complaining oh why do you
- 53:57need more than $200 to pay someone to make music for the game and then for me
- 54:01that's like particularly insulting it's like [ __ ] AAA title you want like
- 54:07hours and hours of Music 200 bucks [ __ ] off yeah like
- 54:12yeah and I get out of bed for people got to eat yeah like you like
- 54:18think about how much you make at your job and then times that by however many
- 54:23people it takes to make the game and how long it took yeah
- 54:26it's not it's not that and add a bit more because you have to buy other stuff
- 54:30LIC licing distribution advertising it's [ __ ] epic that's what I mean I don't
- 54:36see how comp I don't see how it's so complicated you know what it's not if
- 54:39you're one of those people shut up and you know what stop listening to my
- 54:43podcast because it makes me uncomfortable even thinking that you
- 54:45know me well here's one thing I don't say people get upset about how much
- 54:49they're asking for it doesn't matter how much they're asking for what their goal
- 54:53is you look at the level you're prepared to give and what is that worth it for
- 54:57what I'm getting yeah yeah that's it i' I've backed a few games and I've gone
- 55:02$10 yep I think that game is worth $10 I will back that I've seen another that
- 55:06was 20 I've gone don't think that game's worth it I kept my money yeah yeah
- 55:11whether they make their goal is nothing to do with what you should be giving
- 55:15yeah right yeah look moving on from
- 55:19irritating stuff about games Matt I know you're dying to talk about The Witcher
- 55:253 I I am but uh mostly I only
- 55:29have more irritating things to mention because uh Witch of Three is out save
- 55:35get corrupted no no but uh Witch of three came out and I haven't had much
- 55:41time to play and it turns out that's probably a blessing at this point
- 55:45because it's buggy as hell there there are a number of bugs in particular uh I
- 55:50I know people Simon the um who we mentioned earlier he he was playing it
- 55:54and he mentioned there was a bug where was mid conversation with with an NPC in
- 55:58the game and died so and you know what there's a few
- 56:03bugs that's life and apparently there's a there's a
- 56:08really bad Xbox One bug so listeners if you're playing it on Xbox One Bear this
- 56:11in mind they might have patched it by the time you hear this hopefully they
- 56:14have because it's pretty bad um uh if you are playing the game and you turn
- 56:20off your Xbox one you've probably noticed that games kind of Save State in
- 56:25memory when you turn the Xbox off so if you turn the game the Xbox back on and
- 56:28go to immediately start playing again it just instantly comes back on and you
- 56:31keep playing it's pretty cool MH mhm yeah except time yeah except in this
- 56:36case apparently in in Witcher 3 there's a bug where uh once it recovers in that
- 56:41state um it loses the ability to save games but it won't tell you that unless
- 56:47you manually try and save the game so for example uh you could turn your Xbox
- 56:52back on the game loads up and you go oh Beauty uh keep playing for for 7 hours
- 56:58uh oh better save the game oh it says it can't save right now for some reason
- 57:03that's peculiar uh keep trying no no good uh well no doubt it auto saved uh
- 57:09no it didn't ah so so you need to either turn off the instant on on your Xbox or
- 57:15actually shut down the game correctly yeah which do you know how to do that
- 57:19Matt uh how to shut the game down correctly I mean you can you can do a
- 57:23hard power off on the Xbox no it does actually you can actually just shut it
- 57:27down oh like with the little uh menu button when you go back to the menu
- 57:31button it takes you back to the home screen yeah if you then hit like the
- 57:34start button on it yeah you can actually go quick game type thing okay and that
- 57:38that solves the issue as well yes cuz you've actually shut down the game okay
- 57:43well yeah I think it's probably something to do with the way that it the
- 57:47game opens a session with the operating system to save games or something
- 57:50hopefully they'll patch it pretty quickly it's a pretty serious bug you
- 57:54know people people are losing their [ __ ] about
- 57:58it so I've only played about H maybe an hour of the game uh and it's saved so
- 58:04that's good um but another thing people are talking about in relation to Witcher
- 58:103 is the um apparent Graphics uh
- 58:15downgrade that it's received since the original footage was shown yeah um and
- 58:22this has happened a couple of times like it happened with watch dogs as well
- 58:26where the game came out and everyone went well that doesn't look like the
- 58:29trailers yeah and uh and I thought just before it came out they came out and
- 58:34said this is actually going to be better than what seeing in trailers no wait
- 58:40which Witcher yeah apparently see evidently they already scaled it back on
- 58:45the trailers that's what I heard they said uh they did comment on this there
- 58:50was there's a lot of stuff a lot of people winging about it and there's a
- 58:53lot of blogs posting about it and stuff and uh we need to go into it too much
- 58:57but CD Project Read said as a result of
- 59:02optimization but just before release they came to an agreement on what was
- 59:07the best tradeoff for the consoles the Xbox and the PS4 oh we're talking about console not
- 59:14PC no no we're talking about both okay cuz people's complaint mostly is that
- 59:18the PC version maxed out looks no better
- 59:22than the PS4 version right so so people are upset because the PC version in
- 59:28theory should be able to look better and what they said was they were optimizing
- 59:33everything they got it to a point where it looked looked and played uh best you
- 59:38know like ratio wise versus looks versus playability on the consoles and stuff
- 59:42they locked everything down and then it got released and what they're going to
- 59:45do now is um they're going to release some performance updates uh soon
- 59:51apparently there's a fix in in for approval on XBox and and PS4 that should
- 59:55improve a few things and also the PC users will be able to edit the any files
- 59:59and increase you know the the view distance and all that kind of stuff and
- 1:00:03make it look uh you know as fancy as they want but they're going to have to trade off the
- 1:00:09potential you know issues it might cause like bugs and stuff like that so it's
- 1:00:14just a yeah it's a case of again people getting all pissy about something it
- 1:00:19doesn't matter the game is [ __ ] amazing like what do you [ __ ] who cares
- 1:00:22how far into the distance you can see you know like yeah does it really matter
- 1:00:28that much the companies out aren't out there to screw you over they're trying
- 1:00:31to give you the best game they can in particular CD project red are like I
- 1:00:35mean to my knowledge the best for for you know keeping people happy and that
- 1:00:40kind of stuff and like I said soon as they heard this was a problem they
- 1:00:43released a statement saying no no no we'll fix it we'll fix it sorry about
- 1:00:45that the H in fact um as for why they didn't warn Gamers that the game's
- 1:00:51launch their Graphics would be inferior to those in trailers city project reads
- 1:00:55Maran wiski said frankly we didn't think anyone to give a
- 1:01:01[ __ ] look that constantly happens though however however feedback on the matter
- 1:01:06has been touching and we'll do our best to make it up to you but if you didn't
- 1:01:10play it and you're trolling think twice please
- 1:01:14yeah but yeah the [ __ ] game's great who cares if the [ __ ] you can't see a
- 1:01:20city in the distance from the same point on the hill that you could see in the
- 1:01:24trailer like what the [ __ ] is wrong with you just play the game
- 1:01:28no all right I'll play the game when I can see that [ __ ]
- 1:01:32City no that company has screwed me over and I take that as a personal front they
- 1:01:37need to correct it they need to apologize to me personally then maybe
- 1:01:40I'll play this shitty game that's fair well I could talk briefly about
- 1:01:46this book I don't know it's going to go for too long tell us about your little book
- 1:01:50Maddie well I read I don't know are you familiar with the band Behemoth mhm yeah
- 1:01:54you got sent pictures of their dicks right yeah that's true now Behemoth is a
- 1:02:01uh is a black metal band ah like like Dam we going to play some
- 1:02:06metal is that what you mean uh no not not quite what I meant um they're from
- 1:02:11Poland um and they are black metal in the you know the the kind of uh burning
- 1:02:16churches and um oh yeah and I'm familiar with killing priests kind of black metal
- 1:02:21rather than the um you know that kind of
- 1:02:27thing yeah exactly and um Adam Dari is the lead singer for Behemoth he's also
- 1:02:33uh quite a big celebrity in Poland because he's on The Voice the Polish
- 1:02:37version of The Voice right which he coed a bit of [ __ ] for being the singer of of
- 1:02:43Behemoth and doing that um he he has released a book it's actually a series
- 1:02:48of interviews with him um called confessions of no no someone else
- 1:02:53interviewing it and to be fair uh they do ask some good questions and and when
- 1:02:57he cops out they they go no no and they they call him on it yeah it's pretty
- 1:03:02good uh it's called Confessions of a heretic um he's known for having some
- 1:03:07extreme views on things I and uh like the the forward in the book is written
- 1:03:13by Randy blle from Lamb of God uh another an American Metal band and he
- 1:03:18makes the point of saying that Adam is uh is very opinionated and quite uh
- 1:03:23quite extreme in his views and that he feels that maybe he's a bit more extreme
- 1:03:27than Randy is um but I found it was
- 1:03:31mostly to do with religion ah and uh I
- 1:03:35tended to agree with him sure so yeah uh
- 1:03:39I think I think maybe um it's just that
- 1:03:44if you're religious yeah okay maybe you would think his views are extreme um for
- 1:03:49example thinks you're an idiot well he just he he just thinks
- 1:03:53it's it's hurt harmful and and and silly to um to to you know to to worry about
- 1:04:00that stuff basically yeah and uh yeah but uh it's a it's a pretty cool book uh
- 1:04:06you don't necessarily have to to like their music I'm not a huge fan of
- 1:04:10Behemoth I do I appreciate what they do but it's not it's not quite what I'm
- 1:04:14into I do like metal but um you know it's not normally what I would listen to
- 1:04:19but he in particular he's very intelligent and um and I think uh if
- 1:04:26your I guess you know I would say most of I mean most of us are atheists on
- 1:04:30this show are we not uh yeah or or or agnostic perhaps yeah yeah I think yeah
- 1:04:37well I'm a born again but um I'm a Jedi
- 1:04:41yeah right so I guess maybe it's just um maybe it's just Americans and and
- 1:04:46Europeans where you know where Christianity is very heavily embedded
- 1:04:50and only that I just found it very interesting I realized recently that
- 1:04:54Americans aren't even aware that most other countries are secular
- 1:05:00like Americans seem to just assume that every country has like a Christian
- 1:05:06government like they do right okay whereas well it's really
- 1:05:12just them you know yeah well in the book he mentions that he was they were on a
- 1:05:18tour in the US and at a big Festival in in a forest somewhere and the band that
- 1:05:23played before them was a Christian band and the the singer from the band handed
- 1:05:28their stage manager a Bible and said can you give this to Adam for me as a joke
- 1:05:33and so the stage manager said oh I think this uh this was left for you and Adam
- 1:05:39was like well that's [ __ ] inappropriate like it's just silly yeah
- 1:05:43so uh he got up on stage he was a bit annoyed and he uh he said how many of
- 1:05:49you think this is the word of your God and then being in America a lot of
- 1:05:55people said what we do um and so he started ripping Pages out of it and
- 1:06:00throwing to the crowd and said well I'm sorry to tell you that uh I think it's a
- 1:06:03load of horse [ __ ] and uh yeah they uh obviously the crowd
- 1:06:09was quite divided on that uh and so they integrated that into their performance
- 1:06:14and when he went back to Poland and and around Europe um he started doing the
- 1:06:18same thing because it got a reaction that's what he wanted he wanted people
- 1:06:21to question things and talk about things um he it's not about just you know being
- 1:06:24a [ __ ] to Christians it's about making people think like you know God
- 1:06:29didn't strike me down like think about that yeah uh except however in Poland
- 1:06:34apparently uh blasphemy is illegal and uh months and months
- 1:06:40afterwards he he actually twice uh on separate occasions had to go to court to
- 1:06:45defend himself um however luckily he was able to argue that it was Art sure and
- 1:06:51he was he was not attempting to provoke people he was attempting to to um kind
- 1:06:57of make people think like he wasn't just being a [ __ ] wit yeah so um yeah I don't
- 1:07:02know I just found that the book is very interesting he's very intelligent uh and
- 1:07:06also uh one of the key points in the book um that he talks about is he he had
- 1:07:10leukemia um which he he battled and came through and it's just kind of about
- 1:07:16how no but it's just about because a lot of people particularly over there said
- 1:07:21to him you know how what's it like com going through that and not believing in
- 1:07:27God and so he talks about that quite a bit which I thought I found that interesting as
- 1:07:31well so only God what here was cancer yeah no no no
- 1:07:38just I'm trying to see the I mean well I mean if you're maybe going to die yeah
- 1:07:44uh he didn't have a safety net well I'll I'll stop you there we're all going to
- 1:07:48die yeah yeah and I think but maybe not
- 1:07:53I mean not as I mean d day I'm not constantly wondering if today's going to
- 1:07:58be the day you know what I mean like oh well I
- 1:08:02mean how's it feel to not be
- 1:08:07depressed what I mean is he he could potentially have gone any day based on
- 1:08:14the fact that he was very ill and receiving treatments that could have
- 1:08:17killed him fair enough so I'll say this though and I just did um I just did a
- 1:08:22job for an Islamic TV station as as the
- 1:08:25people on this panel well know uh and as
- 1:08:29a gift to me on his final day the client presented me with a beautiful ornate
- 1:08:36Gold Leaf leatherbound
- 1:08:39Karan really yes which he wrote in the cover of and thanked me for my
- 1:08:46contribution oh that's nice wow um and the gesture was nice but I feel very
- 1:08:51uncomfortable with it on my desk at work and it's at work because I don't want it
- 1:08:55in my house house and um and somebody at work said um why
- 1:09:00don't you tear it up or you know set it on fire and and and as as certain I am
- 1:09:07that there is no God I'm not certain enough to [ __ ] burn a
- 1:09:14Quran and so my atheism was tested on that day let me tell
- 1:09:19you well here's the thing it's no matter what you think of it I'm sure from what
- 1:09:25you've described it's quite a lovely book oh it's beautiful it's absolutely
- 1:09:29beautiful yeah so why why destroy it no exactly right who cares I just want to
- 1:09:34know why they went to like destroy just throw it away give
- 1:09:39it away just burn it it that's what you
- 1:09:42do to books Luke you burn them all right hav you read Farenheit 451 it's too
- 1:09:49dangerous you know what I didn't read it and you know why I burnt it before I could read
- 1:09:54it is it in English um it's both it's in English and
- 1:10:00Arabic side by side interesting yeah that's pretty cool yeah see that's
- 1:10:05that's a weird thing see stuff like that I think a book like that would be would
- 1:10:09be very interesting and I think quite beautiful but on the other hand uh I do
- 1:10:14think that stuff like that contains ideas that are hurtful yeah and uh so
- 1:10:20yeah I'm talking about that stuff like for example churches uh particularly old
- 1:10:24ones are quite beautiful but also they kind of represent
- 1:10:28something I don't agree with so yeah you I agree with you Matt I'd go further but
- 1:10:33this is really not the platform let's take this over to multiple religion
- 1:10:37gm.com I don't know this is the funniest uh funniest last five minutes of the
- 1:10:42podcast ever I'm sorry guys all right well has anyone been playing any games
- 1:10:48I've just been playing more s five that's all I've been doing I'm just into
- 1:10:52Telltale Games which ones oh you are cannot get enough of them now I've
- 1:10:58finished um I'm up to date on Tales of Borderlands so I actually went out and
- 1:11:02the Wolf Among Us ah yeah yeah I want to play that and so I've just started
- 1:11:06playing that one and that one I am enjoying wait wait is that is that the
- 1:11:09Fable one yeah yeah yeah I do want to play that cuz I did love the Fable
- 1:11:14Comics see I I had trouble with that game on my iPad I couldn't couldn't get
- 1:11:18into it uh well I'm uh Xbox cuz you know achievements yeah cuz you're a [ __ ]
- 1:11:24yeah yep 59 in Australia now oh I am yeah impressive very impressive really
- 1:11:30getting up there cool so how many how what is the r
- 1:11:36what is the the difference I guess between you and the top oh between me
- 1:11:41and the top it's uh just in Australia I don't care about the world I'm about
- 1:11:453,000 in the world or something right um
- 1:11:48I'll just check now my
- 1:11:52leaderboard um so the top in Australia is something like 800,000 or
- 1:11:59something yeah 8 243,000 and yeah I'm
- 1:12:04232,000 Los right so you're not going to catch up too easily I'm not going to
- 1:12:11catch up to that but I will get to the top 50 probably within the next month or
- 1:12:15two guys with girlfriends can't make numbers like that nope no it is a bit of
- 1:12:22a struggle now yeah yeah yeah I'm not keeping up as well as I used to yeah
- 1:12:27well maybe you need to prioritize Luke yeah and maybe she needs to understand
- 1:12:32that you need your [ __ ] game time yeah she said she was going to start
- 1:12:37listening to the podcast and this this will be the first one I know it it's all
- 1:12:42hey Hannah how you going am I allowed to say her name yeah I think that's okay
- 1:12:48good I she you mean on the podcast or would Luke have a problem with you just
- 1:12:53saying name that was one of the creepiest things you've ever said it's
