- 0:09If you were just starting out in prayer, how do you start?
- 0:13You start from a contrite or remorseful heart, and you start
- 0:17with repentance and a request for the Holy Spirit or ruah ha
- 0:21kodesh. That is what salvation requires.
- 0:27Let's start with the Salvation prayer from bridemovement.com.
- 0:33In order to be saved, we must not only believe that Jesus
- 0:37died, but that he was resurrected on the third day.
- 0:41The victory wasn't in the death, but in the resurrection of Jesus
- 0:45Christ when He arose, having all power in heaven and on earth.
- 0:51He later ascended to heaven and sat down at the right hand of
- 0:55the Father, where he remains to this day, continually making
- 0:59intercession for us. This is the God that I serve.
- 1:05This is the God of love. This is the gospel of Jesus
- 1:09Christ. The Bible says that if we
- 1:12confess the Lord Jesus Christ with our mouth and believe that
- 1:16God has raised Him from the dead in our heart, we will be saved.
- 1:20If you believe this testimony of Jesus Christ in your heart, then
- 1:23you can confess this prayer with your mouth and you will be
- 1:27saved. Jesus, I come before you and
- 1:31acknowledge that I am a Sinner. I repent, I call upon your name,
- 1:38and I ask you to cleanse me with your blood.
- 1:41Forgive me of my sins. I invite you into my heart,
- 1:46Jesus Christ. I believe that you were born a
- 1:49virgin, died, and were resurrected on the third day
- 1:52that I might have eternal life. I open my life to you and I ask
- 1:59you to come in and be my Lord and Savior.
- 2:03Thank you for saving me. In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
- 2:11Let us take the Sermon on the Mount and the Lord's Prayer in
- 2:15Matthew 6. This prayer is a template given
- 2:18to us on how we should pray. Jesus starts by saying in this
- 2:22manner, Pray our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
- 2:27your Kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in
- 2:31heaven. If you've been paying attention,
- 2:35you'll hear the points laid out for you previously in this
- 2:38video. First of all, we address God as
- 2:41Father, our Father in heaven. That makes all the difference.
- 2:46We are not praying to a remote or unknown deity or some
- 2:50impersonal force. We are praying to a person who
- 2:55has made himself our Father through Jesus Christ.
- 2:58The next phrase, hallowed be your name, expresses an attitude
- 3:03of reverence, of worship. After we have acknowledged God
- 3:06as Father, we need to adopt an attitude of reverence.
- 3:11Next we come to the two petitions, Your Kingdom come,
- 3:16and then your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.
- 3:21Notice that we do not begin by praying for what we need.
- 3:26That follows. Give us this day Our Daily
- 3:29Bread, and forgive us our trespasses.
- 3:32But that is not where we start. We start with God's purposes.
- 3:37What is important to God? When done genuinely, it sheds
- 3:42our natural conceit and reveals our humility.
- 3:46Now we need to have a little clarity about the way the
- 3:50Kingdom is established. Paul defined the Kingdom and its
- 3:55essential nature. The Kingdom of God is not eating
- 3:58and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy
- 4:02Spirit. Righteousness comes first.
- 4:06Without true righteousness, there will never be true peace.
- 4:11The world today talks a great deal about peace.
- 4:15Many sections of the church are praying for peace.
- 4:18That is a good prayer. But bear in mind that without
- 4:22righteousness, peace will never come.
- 4:25God says twice through the prophet Isaiah that there is no
- 4:29peace for the wicked. The Kingdom can come invisibly,
- 4:34both in the individual hearts of believers and in fellowship of
- 4:38the true church. But that is not the ultimate.
- 4:42The ultimate is the visible establishment of God's Kingdom.
- 4:46And just as the invisible Kingdom requires a king, so does
- 4:51the visible Kingdom. Only when the king himself has
- 4:54returned visibly and in person can the true Kingdom of God be
- 4:59established on earth. Then Jesus said this in his
- 5:03prayer. Your will be done on earth as it
- 5:07is in heaven. I beseech you therefore,
- 5:10brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a
- 5:14living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your
- 5:20reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this
- 5:24world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you
- 5:29may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of
- 5:33God. For I say, through the grace
- 5:37given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of
- 5:41himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think
- 5:44soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith.
- 5:51For as we have many members in one body, but all the members do
- 5:55not have the same function, so we being many, our one body in
- 6:01Christ, and individually members of one another, having then
- 6:05gifts, deferring according to the grace that is given to us,
- 6:09let us use them. If prophecy, let us prophecy in
- 6:13proportion to our faith or ministry, let us use it in our
- 6:16ministry. He who teaches in teaching, he
- 6:20who exhorts in exhortation, He who gives with liberality, He
- 6:25who leads with diligence, He who shows mercy with cheerfulness,
- 6:30this is what God's will be done means.
- 6:34This does not mean everything is perfect on earth, but it means
- 6:38that in any given situation, God's purpose and solution can
- 6:42be perfectly worked out. Do you believe that?
- 6:44You see, you will pray differently if you convince
- 6:48yourself that it's true. Once you have successfully and
- 6:51righteously begun your prayer, you may enter into the next
- 6:54stage where you ask for bread and forgiveness of sin, as you
- 6:58have forgiven others who've sinned against you.
- 7:02Then for strength against temptation of the flesh.
- 7:05Because God is the Kingdom and the power and deserves all the
- 7:09glory for all time.
