- 0:04Welcome everybody to Mom St. USA.
- 0:07My name is Jackie AKA Wishes Mama, and joining me on location
- 0:11at Disneyland is my Co host Kate, AKA the Disney Cicerone.
- 0:15And together we are Mom St. USA.
- 0:18Bringing you a kind of hodgepodge topic this evening.
- 0:22We've got a couple little subtopics within our show
- 0:25tonight. So we are going to talk a little
- 0:27bit about solo parenting at the parks and give maybe some advice
- 0:31for that. I'm also talking about traveling
- 0:34in uneven numbers and thrill seekers and non thrill seekers
- 0:38traveling together. So like I said little bit of
- 0:41everything tonight, but we wanted to hit some of these
- 0:43topics that our community has been asking about.
- 0:46So we wanted to make sure that we kind of just included them
- 0:49all. So Kate, how are you doing this
- 0:50evening? I'm doing really great.
- 0:52I've had a really nice trip so far at Disneyland, enjoying all
- 0:55of the Christmassy things that are there.
- 0:58It's been a very quick trip down here just to get a little bit of
- 1:01content, do a little live streaming and and have a little
- 1:03fun. So little, little bit of fun.
- 1:08But it's so of course it's fun, right?
- 1:10It's really fun to dig into those these topics because I
- 1:13feel like they are ones that people ask us about a lot.
- 1:16And so it's it's nice to be able to touch on kind of how to plan
- 1:20when it's like it's a it's a weirder situation in your party.
- 1:23So we'll plan to dig into this. Yeah, absolutely.
- 1:26And some of these I like haven't thought about because I maybe
- 1:29don't have experience doing them.
- 1:30So it's good. We love it when our community
- 1:32asks us these questions or says like hey, could you do this in a
- 1:36in a show, Like I think it'd be really helpful, you know, that's
- 1:38that's helpful to us to know what you guys are looking for as
- 1:41far as information. So we're excited to hopefully
- 1:44shed some light and bring you our advice, you know, and
- 1:47hopefully it'll help somebody out.
- 1:49Yeah. All righty.
- 1:51Well, shall we dig in with our first topic of the night, which
- 1:54would be the low parenting at the parks, which I I'm not a
- 1:58solo parent because I I am married, but I have solo
- 2:02parented at the park Bay only. Just me and my kiddo.
- 2:05So I do. That experience at least, yeah.
- 2:08And I think this could apply to lots of different situations,
- 2:11whether it be, you know, Kate, I know you've done like one-on-one
- 2:14trips with some of your kids before.
- 2:15There are so many amazing solo parents out there that have
- 2:19kids, you know, one kid, two kids, three kids, whoever, you
- 2:21know, that might want to take be taking trips to the parks.
- 2:24So we were asked this and just like I said, we want to try to
- 2:27give some information regarding kind of what we suggest as
- 2:32people who frequent the Disney parks that might help you out if
- 2:36that's your situation. So the first thing that we will
- 2:39always suggest, regardless of no matter who you are, who you're
- 2:43traveling with, what your situation is, is you.
- 2:46You've got to do your research, which will surprise no one, that
- 2:50that is the top thing on our list, but it truly is.
- 2:57So the first thing that is really important I think
- 3:00whenever you you start doing your research is deciding where
- 3:03you want to stay. And if you are solo parenting at
- 3:07the parks, there are a few more things you might want to
- 3:10consider. If.
- 3:12That are different from when you might be traveling with other
- 3:15adults in your party. The biggest thing is the
- 3:18proximity and convenient access to the parks.
- 3:22Because having to take one, even just one kid by yourself,
- 3:27multiple kids by yourself, whatever your situation may be
- 3:30thinking about, oh, do I want to try and brave the bus?
- 3:33Do I have a stroller? If I'm if I've got maybe a
- 3:36toddler with me, am I going to be on my own doing a stroller in
- 3:40the bus versus the sky liner versus the monorail versus am I
- 3:44minivan? Am I Uber?
- 3:46Am I Lyft? You know, whatever your
- 3:47situation may be, that is a huge thing to really consider.
- 3:51Yeah, because getting around is, I think that's one of the
- 3:54hardest parts, especially if you're traveling with Little
- 3:56Littles, because you sometimes you have to carry them if they
- 3:59get tired and all those kinds of things.
- 4:01So know what you're capable of, what they're capable of, and
- 4:07plan accordingly. Yeah, absolutely.
- 4:11So thinking about, you know, budget friendly versus
- 4:14convenient access to the parks is is a really big one to
- 4:18consider. Obviously at Disney World you've
- 4:21got a few more options that are more convenient access to the
- 4:24parks. Disneyland, you've got to just
- 4:27understand that unless you're really staying at a Disneyland
- 4:30hotel, but even then, most of the time you're going to be
- 4:33walking from wherever you're staying to get to the parks.
- 4:36Yeah. Now you're saying I try to do
- 4:38only one park because the transfer is tough alone.
- 4:41So like rather than doing maybe a park hopper where you're going
- 4:44park to park to park, maybe just be like we're just going to this
- 4:47one park this one day and then back.
- 4:50Not as applicable in Disneyland than Disney World.
- 4:52Disneyland is really easy to park hop, but Disney World for
- 4:57sure. It's a lot of energy and time to
- 4:59get to a particular park and back so.
- 5:02Right. And really considering the
- 5:04biggest, the biggest thing I think with that is just the
- 5:07stroller issue. If you're taking a bus, that
- 5:11stroller has to be completely collapsed.
- 5:14So you've got your stroller in one hand, the kid probably in
- 5:17the other hand, either holding their hand or holding them.
- 5:22But if you're taking them on a rail or the sky liner, you don't
- 5:26necessarily have to fold up your stroller.
- 5:28I will say the one thing about that is the sky liner, you
- 5:30cannot have double wide strollers.
- 5:32You have to do like if you've got a double stroller, if you're
- 5:34doing two kids, you've got to do like the front to back ones.
- 5:39But other than that, that's a little bit more convenient in my
- 5:42personal opinion, because you don't have to fold up the
- 5:44stroller and deal with all of that.
- 5:47Yeah, and you know when you're once your kids are older, some
- 5:51of the stuff isn't as hard to do.
- 5:54You know, Like I didn't. I think I started taking my kids
- 5:56on syllables when they were like 6 years old.
- 5:59Was the like the youngest I would go and I wouldn't probably
- 6:03go in younger than I, just for myself because I knew what I was
- 6:06capable of at the time. Yeah, you can absolutely do it.
- 6:09Just know what you're know, what you're capable of.
- 6:11But that's when I started doing with my kids because I knew that
- 6:14they could walk mostly by themselves and they can carry
- 6:16their own like small bag and then I wouldn't have to manage
- 6:19all of that. So it does get a little easier
- 6:21as they get older and you can maybe add in some more park
- 6:24hopping and stuff because they're just capable of more and
- 6:27they can carry their own stuff. Like.
- 6:30Yeah, that makes a huge difference.
- 6:33I think also something to consider.
- 6:35We talk a lot about making your priority list and you know,
- 6:38planning out what attractions you want to go on.
- 6:40But I think considering how many people you're traveling with and
- 6:44we'll talk touch more on this a little bit later when we talk
- 6:46about traveling and uneven parties.
- 6:48But do the rides see two? Do they see three?
- 6:52How many people are going to be able to fit in a sky liner with
- 6:55you or how you know like thinking about logistics like
- 6:58that too when you're traveling and when you're the sole adult
- 7:02in the situation? Other things to consider and
- 7:04like I said, we'll go through kind of a a list of two versus 3
- 7:08versus more when it comes to brides here in a little bit.
- 7:12Yeah, I have a question from Ryan, who I believe said he's
- 7:15got him with a cool uncle that would take the kids.
- 7:18I'm hearing that a lot is like uncles, aunts and grandparents,
- 7:22solo grandparents and and you know, anybody who's going solo
- 7:25with kids to the park. So that's how Ryan asked if
- 7:28taking breaks, can we come and go into the park all day?
- 7:31And absolutely you can. Both Disneyland and Disney
- 7:34World. You can come and go as much as
- 7:36you need to. The only caveat to that is maybe
- 7:40on an extremely busy day like Christmas Day, if they reach
- 7:44capacity then you can't get back in.
- 7:47That is so rare really only maybe Thanksgiving or Christmas
- 7:52or maybe New Year's Day like, but just those like New Year's
- 7:55Eve, those are probably the only ones that will probably ever hit
- 7:57capacity. So I wouldn't have to worry
- 7:59about that on a normal day. Yeah, yeah, absolutely.
- 8:03Another thing to consider when you're talking about looking at
- 8:06rides for your trip are the height requirements and how
- 8:09you're going to navigate those height requirements.
- 8:13Just as general rule of thumb, Walt Disney World, the range and
- 8:15height requirements is anywhere from 35 inches to 48 inches.
- 8:19Now, not every ride has a height requirement, but you just want
- 8:22to be be really mindful. If you've got kiddos that are
- 8:25under 35 and under 44 and under 48, you know there's multiple
- 8:30different kind of categories in there.
- 8:35If all your kids are 48 and up, then you're good to go.
- 8:39Like, you know, it's also something to consider if they're
- 8:42mentally, emotionally ready to go on those rides as well.
- 8:45Because, like, my kids started to be old enough for Tower of
- 8:47Terror at four years old, but he was not ready emotionally.
- 8:52I learned that the hard way. That was a big parenting fail.
- 8:54But he was my first. And you learn as you go.
- 8:57But yeah, those are also things to consider.
- 8:59And there just might be some things that you just don't get
- 9:02to go on on that trip if you're by yourself and you don't have
- 9:05anybody else to watch a kiddo. And that's OK.
- 9:08You'll just enjoy other things on that trip.
- 9:09So manage your own expectations for that and it's OK.
- 9:13Yeah, and I will mention Disneyland has ride height
- 9:16requirements that range anywhere from 32 to 54.
- 9:19So it was interesting as I was looking and comparing that
- 9:22Disneyland has a little bit of a wider range of height
- 9:25requirements for some of their rides.
- 9:26So again, just look at the rides that you might think that your
- 9:30kiddos want to do. If you need help with that,
- 9:32reach out to somebody who can help you.
- 9:34We are more than happy to help you with that.
- 9:36I love doing itinerary, so send me a message.
- 9:41Jackie's great at it too. It's fun, but yeah, considering
- 9:45those things and then also considering age restrictions and
- 9:50Kate was talking a little bit about this with, you know, are
- 9:53they mentally, emotionally ready?
- 9:55Even if they're tall enough, are they ready?
- 9:57But then also, are they old enough to be able to ride Disney
- 10:01World and Disneyland, Their regulations for solo riders,
- 10:06Guests under the age of 14 must be accompanied by a guest 14 or
- 10:10older to enter the theme park. So that's just getting into the
- 10:14parks. So anyone 14 and under has to be
- 10:17accompanied by someone older to board an attraction, children
- 10:21under the age of seven must be accompanied by a person age 14
- 10:26or older. Now that's Disney's rule when it
- 10:30comes to that. However, it's really interesting
- 10:37than that at that age. And I'm like.
- 10:39That's my that's my oldest. Like my oldest is 7 and I cannot
- 10:43fathom in my personal situation sending him on a ride.
- 10:52Alone, alone. I know.
- 10:54I I was thinking about it for my 8 year old, my daughter.
- 10:57And I was just like, no, like, not for a few years.
- 11:01Now my son who's 13, I'm like, Oh yeah, he could totally handle
- 11:04that. And we could move up and he, I
- 11:06could text him and it would be like, we could he's he knows how
- 11:09to handle himself. He knows what to do if there's
- 11:12an emergency. He's good.
- 11:13But I'm like, you know so it is it is Disney's rule though and
- 11:16everybody parents differently and everybody knows their kids.
- 11:18So there are that feel comfortable with that And that's
- 11:21where I'm There's no judgement. I know it just feels a little
- 11:25surprising with a parent. Yeah, yeah.
- 11:28But that also you that also plays into those conversations
- 11:31about height requirements, you know, especially if you maybe
- 11:35have a if you're solo parenting with maybe 2 kiddos and they've
- 11:38got a fairly large age gap, that's something to consider
- 11:41that maybe your older one if if they are, you know, 12/13/14,
- 11:47you might feel comfortable saying like Yep, you go ahead on
- 11:49this thrill ride, I'm going to hang back with the little
- 11:53sibling and we'll wait for you to be done.
- 11:55Right. Yeah, and like we did that with
- 11:57my son who wanted to do single Rider for Space Mountain when we
- 12:01were in Disneyland Paris, and that he wanted to go.
- 12:03Nobody else really wanted to go again because that was ends over
- 12:06there. And was like.
- 12:07You have at it, son, like we'll be over here when you're done.
- 12:10And it was great and that worked out well.
- 12:13And I also say that this works out.
- 12:15We can talk a little bit more about this later when we talk
- 12:17about seating. But it does work out too, if you
- 12:20have an an older kiddo and then a younger one.
- 12:24But they can actually sit together too because you can't
- 12:26have somebody who's under 7 sitting by themselves on the
- 12:30ride. So that also helps if you have
- 12:33an older sibling for that. Yeah, absolutely.
- 12:36And I will just mention, as we're talking about age
- 12:38restrictions, that something to know in Disneyland is that
- 12:42anyone under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or legal
- 12:45guardian between 10:00 PM and 5:00 AM in Downtown Disney.
- 12:49Disney Springs doesn't seem to have any sort of regulation on
- 12:52that that I could find on the website, which I thought was
- 12:54interesting. There probably is something and
- 12:57it just wasn't jumping out at me on the website.
- 12:59But this is no nightlife over a Disney World to tell.
- 13:02Everybody goes to bed early. It's a weird thing.
- 13:04Like, that's true. You know?
- 13:06It's like midnight when the park closed, so everybody's out late.
- 13:09But yeah, 9:00 PM get in for the night at Disney World.
- 13:14We're sleepy in Disney World. It's fine.
- 13:19Not night owls. I get it.
- 13:21Night owls go to Disneyland World.
- 13:24Yeah, oh, Daylen is saying that's a local to Anaheim curfew
- 13:28for Downtown Disney, which totally makes sense if that's
- 13:31more of like an Anaheim regulation, but just keep that
- 13:36in mind. Impact Disneyland like fireworks
- 13:39and whatnot to so that makes sense, right?
- 13:43But just really my my biggest thought about that is keep that
- 13:46in mind. If you're traveling with
- 13:47teenagers who are under 18, you can't like send them to grab
- 13:50food in Downtown Disney without accompanying them.
- 13:53So just like those types of situations, keep that in mind.
- 13:57After 10:00 PM, they may be stopped and questioned.
- 14:02I'll be sent back, yeah. Like, Nope, sorry.
- 14:08All right, so Next up we have take photos of everything, which
- 14:12is such a smart tip. I'm really glad that you put
- 14:14this in here, Jackie. That's always something that we
- 14:17always did at the beginning of the day is take a picture of our
- 14:20kids outfit for the day, what they look like so that if they
- 14:23get lost, so you can be like, here's what they look like today
- 14:28because, you know, different days, different outfits,
- 14:30different hairstyles, whatever. Like this is exactly what they
- 14:32look like. Do you want to talk a little bit
- 14:34more about that? Yeah, I just, this was something
- 14:37that I I don't even know where I learned it from, but I learned
- 14:40it on like right before we went with my son.
- 14:43And it just gave me a a little bit of Peace of Mind because
- 14:47Disney is crazy busy. There's so many people and so
- 14:51many crowds depending on where you are and when you're going.
- 14:54And if you've got kiddos especially that are really
- 14:56independent and want to walk, if they're in the stroller or you
- 14:59know, you can buckle them in, it's a little bit different.
- 15:02But if you've got kiddos that are like, Nope, they refuse and
- 15:05they just want to walk, having that photo of them could be
- 15:07super helpful. If you get separated, if you
- 15:11lose sight of them in the crowds, it happens again.
- 15:15We never judge ever, because it happens.
- 15:19But having that to show the cast members to be like this is, you
- 15:24know, this is what I'm looking for.
- 15:25This is what they look like today.
- 15:27This is what they're wearing. Super duper helpful.
- 15:30Yeah. For sure.
- 15:32And I I think making a plan, if you are separated, like that's
- 15:37something we always did when my kids were little.
- 15:39I'd always show them that like cast member name tags.
- 15:42Same. Yep.
- 15:43What you look for when you're lost, if you get separated, if
- 15:47you don't know what to do and you're scared whenever, you
- 15:49know, like go find this, like these people know what to do.
- 15:53Just look for this name tag. And so this I just printed out
- 15:57like a picture of it. And so I don't just pull it up
- 15:59on your phone now, because yeah. Well, we do it usually right
- 16:04when we walk into the parks. It's like, whatever, you know,
- 16:09after we're through the tap styles, you know, we don't stop
- 16:11in the middle of the tap styles and be like look, this is what
- 16:13it looks like, like once we're in the park a little.
- 16:16Ways. But there are usually cast
- 16:21members stationed. You know, if you're especially
- 16:23like if you're on Main Street, they're all over the place,
- 16:25especially early in the morning or wherever you are.
- 16:27We. But the first cast member that I
- 16:29see, I, you know, I usually stop and say like OK, this is what
- 16:32their name tags look like. And then it gets a little tricky
- 16:34when you go places like Galaxy's Edge, their name tags look a
- 16:38little bit different, you know. So you just got to kind of be
- 16:40aware of those types of things. But showing them like OK, if you
- 16:43see somebody with this name tag, if you need help, they are a
- 16:47safe person for you to be able to ask I think is super, super
- 16:50important. And then, yeah, with older kids,
- 16:52like set a meeting spot like you said, if you know you're sending
- 16:56your kid off to do a single rider line or what?
- 16:58Or go on something solo like, OK, when you're done, this is
- 17:01where we're going to meet, you know, if you can't find me,
- 17:03you've got your phone, I've got my phone.
- 17:05Call me. Like just having a plan for for
- 17:08meeting back up if you guys decide to go separate ways.
- 17:11Yeah, and if you're not ready to do bones with your kids, 'cause
- 17:15I as your kids get older, we also do like the Gab watch.
- 17:19We have like the watches that can text but only the people
- 17:22that you allow them to text and they don't have apps and stuff
- 17:24on them. So those are really helpful
- 17:26because they also have a location tracker on them so you
- 17:28can easily find your kids. I know that other people have
- 17:31also put air tags and stuff in their on their kids so that if
- 17:35they can locate them that way. And then Catherine also
- 17:39mentioned here they have those temp tattoos that you can put
- 17:42and then it lost contact with your phone number.
- 17:44We used those for years and I put them they wouldn't be in all
- 17:47the photos because I was like I don't want those in my family
- 17:49photos. I think like under their arm,
- 17:52really them. But they weren't easy for them
- 17:54to show somebody if they needed to, and those are really easy
- 17:58because they'll they'll stay on for pretty much the whole trip
- 18:00or at least half a bolt before you have to refresh it.
- 18:02So that's helpful. Yeah, and if you put like a
- 18:05liquid bandage over top of them, it helps them last even longer.
- 18:10So, and again, you're probably going to need a couple even for
- 18:13your trip, but they'll at least stay on for longer than a day.
- 18:17Hopefully, yeah. And then Speaking of photos,
- 18:21another thing that I suggest because I struggle with this is
- 18:24if you are driving to the parks in your own vehicle and parking
- 18:28at the parks, take photos of where you parked.
- 18:32I am notorious for having no clue, like if I'm not with my
- 18:37husband, all is lost. I am.
- 18:40I am lost. Well, like putting the alarm
- 18:42thing on and then like walking around.
- 18:45I try not to. And sometimes you got to do what
- 18:48you got to do, Kate. I literally took my daughter
- 18:53with me to the mall the other day because we were looking for
- 18:55a Christmas present for my son. And we got out of the car and my
- 18:59daughter is starting to learn letters and numbers.
- 19:01And so I I looked at her and I said, OK, you're my helper.
- 19:05What? Let's look at the row that we
- 19:07parked in. And it was like row B, entrance
- 19:09three or something like that. And I was like, you're in charge
- 19:11of helping Mommy, remember. And my kids know that I have a
- 19:14terrible memory. Like, it's just awful.
- 19:17And so we started to walk back out.
- 19:19And my daughter was like, Mommy, I remember, here's where we
- 19:21parked. I was like, thank you.
- 19:22You're so helpful. That's good.
- 19:26I love that. So you can take a picture but
- 19:29also make it a memory. Thing and don't don't rely on
- 19:32your five year old. I would not rely on my 5 year
- 19:34old when I park at Disney as much as she would probably do
- 19:37fairly well remembering she's also five so.
- 19:40You don't want to put that on your kid like they can remember,
- 19:44but like kids always tried to remember like what floor we're
- 19:46on and what room we're in. You know, like and that is
- 19:48something I also highly encourage you is to teach your
- 19:51kids. I've mentioned this before,
- 19:52teach your kids your room number because you don't know if they.
- 19:56My kid, when he was little, downed his way outside the door
- 20:00while we were sleeping because he's that kind of kid.
- 20:04And we had forgotten to throw the latch because my grandma had
- 20:08left after while we were doing bath time and we didn't even
- 20:11like our brains and register like we need to throw the safety
- 20:14latch. So he had.
- 20:15Three. He was three, and he got out of
- 20:17our hotel room. And the only way that he came
- 20:19back to us was because I taught him what room we were in.
- 20:22So always teach your kids to memorize their room number, just
- 20:25in case, Yes. Yes, super smart.
- 20:30And then also like screenshots of plans in the app.
- 20:32If you've got kiddos that have phones and you want to share,
- 20:35you know, hey, this is like, especially if you're going
- 20:39multiple places, maybe like they're going off to do this,
- 20:41you're going off to do this. OK, we got to meet at this ride
- 20:44at this time. Here's the screenshot of what
- 20:45our plans are. Those types of things, if that
- 20:47works for your family or your situation, can be really smart,
- 20:51especially if you don't have, you know a lot of the times if
- 20:53you've got two adults, you can divide and conquer.
- 20:55Won't go this way, won't go that way.
- 20:56It's not necessarily possible if you're going by yourself and
- 20:58you've got older kiddos with you, right?
- 21:01Absolutely. And then again, like I said,
- 21:04share any of these photos with your older kiddos.
- 21:06So if you've got older kiddos that are responsible enough to
- 21:08help you and you want to, you know, share with them, OK,
- 21:11here's the photos of your siblings that we took this
- 21:13morning. So that way you have them too.
- 21:14Here's a photo of where our car is in case we get separated and
- 21:17we need to meet at the car. You know, you never know.
- 21:21And I try not to be paranoid, I try to be prepared, but you
- 21:24never know what might happen. So just being prepared and
- 21:28having that all on a hand I think can be helpful and
- 21:30hopefully you never need it. Yes, for sure.
- 21:33I hope none of you ever need it, but it's always good to be safe
- 21:36and sorry. Yes, this is something.
- 21:39The next thing is something we've talked about before, but
- 21:42utilizing those family restrooms and baby care centers.
- 21:45I think those are so important when you are traveling with
- 21:48Little Littles and you're by yourself because it really can,
- 21:51Especially the baby care centers because they have sometimes
- 21:55little movies on that they could maybe watch while you're maybe
- 21:58nursing or like whatever you're doing.
- 22:00You just need a few minutes to have them in a safe space where
- 22:05you can breathe and like sit down because it you know that
- 22:08always having to be hyper vigilant about where they are
- 22:11and if they're safe. Obviously you can't just like
- 22:13let them roll and like do whatever you want, but you at
- 22:15least it's in a space. But even in a quiet space where
- 22:18you can just like, make a breath for a little bit.
- 22:21Absolutely. The the other thing that I love
- 22:23about the baby care centers is they always have the like an
- 22:27extra large bathroom that usually has a smaller potty for
- 22:31little kiddos that might need it, which can be super helpful
- 22:34if you've got a little little that is really nervous to use
- 22:37the potties that are really big and and automatic loud toilets.
- 22:45Yes, you know, if if it's possible, it may not always be
- 22:47possible for you to get to the baby care center when they need
- 22:50to go it. You know, that's just life and
- 22:52you just as a parent have to be prepared for that.
- 22:54But if you're nearby, choosing to go there to use the bathroom
- 22:58might be a better, a better place for you and like Kate
- 23:00said, much less crowded, much less hustle and bustle of the
- 23:04bathrooms. You know, there's so many people
- 23:06around. The bathrooms are in constant
- 23:07use from all sorts of people, so.
- 23:10Also a great place to go if you've forgotten supplies that
- 23:13you need, like baby wipes or diapers, or you know they have
- 23:17everything like deodorants and stuff.
- 23:18They've got all kinds of things baby cares that are so it's even
- 23:21if you don't have a baby and you need something.
- 23:24I've gotten deodorant from there before, when I might have
- 23:27forgotten. Hey, you know.
- 23:32Right, Yeah. And then family restrooms too
- 23:35that are located around the parks.
- 23:37There are restrooms that are available for if you just need
- 23:40space to go with your kid. But other even in our regular
- 23:43like women's bathroom, there's like extra large stalls and
- 23:46there's multiple of them. So you don't have to feel like,
- 23:48well, I'm taking this away from somebody who might need it for
- 23:52differently enabled people that might need it.
- 23:54They I think that they accommodate that the fact that
- 23:56some families you can't just leave your child necessarily
- 24:00outside the stall and you have to come in with you.
- 24:02I remember those days. I'm.
- 24:05Glad I am. Like, I don't know what it is.
- 24:08I'm just this is one of my things as a helicopter parent
- 24:12that I will proudly admit that I'm a helicopter parent, but I
- 24:15am still not totally comfortable with my seven and five year olds
- 24:20being alone in the bathrooms. I just there's there's just a
- 24:27lot to unpack there that I'm not going to get into.
- 24:30But so I forced them to come in with me and they don't always
- 24:34like it, but it's like you know what I, and you know I talked to
- 24:37them about I need to have my eyes on you so I know that
- 24:40you're safe. It's it's just something that
- 24:42mommy needs and something that is going to keep you extra safe.
- 24:45So we're going to just take turns and we'll turn to give you
- 24:49your privacy so you can go, and then we'll take turns and we'll
- 24:52we'll all be safe that way. Yeah, it's gotten easier as my
- 24:56kids have gotten older, especially because I have two
- 24:58girls and so usually if I'm not out, one of the other ones are
- 25:02out and they can kind of use the buddy system.
- 25:04So, and that's a lot. I think if I just had one, I
- 25:06probably would have a little bit more anxiety about it.
- 25:09But they're also, my kids are also much older now than yours,
- 25:12so it helps once they get older. And we always have the rule of
- 25:16do not leave the the bathroom without me.
- 25:18That was the one we taught, especially at Diffie because
- 25:20there's multiple exits sometimes to the bathroom, right?
- 25:23Know where they go. So that's like don't be.
- 25:27Right, and honestly, it's funny because my 5 year old she would
- 25:30probably be better about just like standing right outside, but
- 25:33my my 7 year old, newly diagnosed with ADHD kiddo, is
- 25:38probably more likely to find something interesting and wander
- 25:42off and go look at it. Not intending to leave and not
- 25:45meaning to worry my my anxious heart, but it it just is what it
- 25:51is. So he is my he is my kiddo that
- 25:53I'm like, Nope, I gotta be able to see you, right?
- 25:56No, I totally. Get that?
- 25:58Yeah, I did have a comment in here that is a good point that
- 26:00we've talked about before that using a Mickey sticker or a post
- 26:04it note or something over those toilets for your kiddos is
- 26:06always helpful and we've done that before too.
- 26:09So definitely a good. Tip I also have a comment from
- 26:14our earlier thing that we were mentioning from Chris's as if
- 26:17your child has a magic band, Disney can help find them too.
- 26:20So if they're currently wearing your pool, they can also help
- 26:24find your kiddo. So.
- 26:25I never thought about that. Thank you, Christa, for
- 26:28mentioning that. Yeah, too bad my kids won't wear
- 26:31their magic band. They're on my bag 90% of the
- 26:37time. Find your bag if you lose.
- 26:41Perfect. I mean that's important.
- 26:44You know, it's, it's good. But yes, so all of those things
- 26:49to be considered when you're, you know, looking for a safe
- 26:52place if you need to use the restroom, baby care centers,
- 26:55family restrooms, some of the places in the parks even have
- 26:58companion restrooms if you're able to utilize those.
- 27:00So different options there. This next one is one that I have
- 27:05personally had issues with. When my husband and maybe and I
- 27:07have like divided out to do things is when you go to eat
- 27:12meals. You really need to think about
- 27:14strategically how you are going to handle.
- 27:17And this is not only just Disney, this is everywhere you
- 27:20know, but how you're going to handle that.
- 27:22So first of all, mobile order. Do not stand in line with your
- 27:26kiddos because it's going to be hard for them to stand in line
- 27:30no matter how old they are, especially if it's around a meal
- 27:32time when they're super hungry. So mobile order is your best
- 27:36friend. And well, you're like trying to
- 27:38decide what everybody wants to eat.
- 27:40It's so stressful. I remember that and often times
- 27:45I again, I over plan everything. I am the person that like I
- 27:49typically have. I know where we're going to try
- 27:51to eat or I have maybe two options of where we're going to
- 27:53try to eat. And I know what my kids are
- 27:55going to order, so I just have it like ready to go in a
- 27:58spreadsheet because I'm that person and I just pull it up on
- 28:01my phone and. Then I just.
- 28:03Plug it in and then we're good to go.
- 28:04And I just like, double check with them like, hey, you want
- 28:06this, right? And they're like, yeah, if
- 28:08you're not Jackie. Yeah.
- 28:10Another thing you can do is if you're waiting in line for a
- 28:12ride, which inevitably you will at some point, that's what we
- 28:16usually do is we turn everybody while we're waiting in line and
- 28:19be like, what do you want to eat?
- 28:20Here's the option to show them the things, have them back them
- 28:23out. And we've talked a lot about
- 28:25mobile ordering in general, so I don't know if we should go too
- 28:28deep into that. But yeah, I did.
- 28:30Just using mobile order will save you.
- 28:33And some of the times, depending on the location, sometimes
- 28:37they'll give your order in like a bag or something.
- 28:39It'll make it easier to carry all the stuff out.
- 28:43And that is the major thing that is so hard is when you mobile
- 28:49order or order it all or are waiting for your order.
- 28:53You've got to think of a head about, OK, do I have a stroller
- 28:56that I have to also handle? Do I have kids that can sit at a
- 28:59table because they're old enough and they can wait for me at the
- 29:02table? All those things coordinating.
- 29:05How many trays am I going to have?
- 29:06The cast members are there to help you.
- 29:09So make sure you ask for help. Often there are cast members
- 29:13just standing kind of in that area that I'm sure will be more
- 29:17than happy to help you carry a tray to your table.
- 29:19So ask for help. Yeah, yeah.
- 29:24And if you have older kids too, they can usually help you carry
- 29:27something but will not a full trait will have food, but you
- 29:30know, maybe they can push the stroller with a younger sibling
- 29:33and stuff like that. So don't be afraid to ask your
- 29:35kids to, you know, just help out a little bit with those things
- 29:38too. So.
- 29:38Yeah, and sometimes, depending on where you're going, and this
- 29:41is hard to, you know, decipher, like, OK, this place is this
- 29:44way, this place is the other way.
- 29:45But sometimes it's easier to take your stroller in with you.
- 29:48I suppose it's easier to leave it outside.
- 29:49So like you may want to do like a scope out of the area if it's
- 29:53a new restaurant that you haven't been to before.
- 29:55Some places are are drastically one way or the other.
- 29:58In some places it's like it's your preference, but like some
- 30:01of the tables are really close together and you're not going to
- 30:03be able to push a stroller between them.
- 30:04Right. And it's just makes a huge
- 30:06hassle for everybody, I agree. Yes, so keep that in mind, but
- 30:10yes, mobile order have a plan. And and you could also do table
- 30:17service if your budget allows for it, because it might be
- 30:20easier for you in some situations where you don't have
- 30:22to carry your food to something or Jackie does a lot of
- 30:26picnicking. I know it was so that that might
- 30:29also be an option if you're on a budget, but you don't want to
- 30:33worry about hassle of airing food places.
- 30:36Or maybe you just order some small things that are easy to
- 30:38carry and then the rest of your meal is something that you
- 30:41packed for lunch. So you can do that, yeah.
- 30:44Absolutely. Lots of options.
- 30:45But just again, you just got to kind of think ahead, especially
- 30:48if you're someone who maybe isn't used to solo parenting.
- 30:52If you're someone like Kate was mentioning where she just kind
- 30:54of takes her kids, you know, solo to the park, those are kind
- 30:58of those things that you're like, oh, right.
- 30:59I don't have a person that can sit with the kids while I go get
- 31:01the food or I don't have, you know, those types of things.
- 31:04So if you're. Forget the forks or something.
- 31:06Yes. Oh my gosh, now I have a table
- 31:09full of food and these children and the forks are way over
- 31:12there. And luckily my kids are old
- 31:14enough now that I'm like, yeah, go get us some forks or I'll go
- 31:16get some words. We'll be right back.
- 31:18But when they're little, you're like, Oh no, yeah, I don't have
- 31:22any napkins. I don't know any warmer.
- 31:24And it just becomes like a huge thing they have to see.
- 31:27When you just travel solo, like, I feel like it sat down with all
- 31:30of my food. I'm like, I don't have a utensil
- 31:32and all my stuff's here and it's over there.
- 31:37So think about. Right this and I will say most
- 31:41of the quick service restaurants that I've been in at Disney have
- 31:46some sort of condiment utensil napkin dispenser somewhat with
- 31:51the eyesight. So like, yeah, you can kind of
- 31:54run back. It just really depends on where
- 31:56you're at. It happened to the day it was.
- 31:58Like. Food for lunch.
- 32:00I was like, oh, OK, gotta go get that.
- 32:04Anyway, so moving on, let's let's keep rolling here.
- 32:07Cuz I have to go have dinner soon.
- 32:08So let's Next up is. Don't over exert yourself.
- 32:15I think this is a really great tip because it's like take a
- 32:18stroller or don't. You had a little insight into
- 32:20this, Jackie. Yeah, it, you know, my kids are
- 32:23really at the age where this last trip when we just went in
- 32:26November, there were some days that we did not take our
- 32:29stroller with us and there were some days that we did.
- 32:31But like, I know physically who I am as a person.
- 32:36If I was traveling solo with both of my kids and trying to do
- 32:41a stroller, I am not strong enough to manipulate our double
- 32:45stroller with both of my kids in it through the parks.
- 32:49It's just not something I can physically handle.
- 32:52So it man, it, you know, listen, I know well, it's like my kids
- 33:00are to the age where, like, especially my oldest, he chooses
- 33:03to walk most of the time. But like, because here's the
- 33:06other thing, that me as a parent, again, this is a lot of
- 33:09my input and take it or leave it and no judgement for anyone
- 33:13who's different. But for me as a parent, if I'm
- 33:16going to be solo in the parks with both of my kids and I have
- 33:19a stroller, you're in the stroller when we're walking
- 33:21around because I can't push the stroller and have a hand on you.
- 33:25And that would right? That doesn't fly for me
- 33:28personally. It's really frustrating to have
- 33:30this tub manage the stroller and be like watching them and they
- 33:33move at a separate pace and you're like now like everybody
- 33:35in the stroller so we can get to where we need to go.
- 33:39Yes, exactly. And I just know physically I
- 33:42would not be able to handle that, especially when you think
- 33:44now the majority of the parks have fairly flat walkways, but
- 33:48there are some hills and there are, especially if you're
- 33:51thinking about like coming to and from like Magic Kingdom, if
- 33:54you're taking the monorail, it's a hike to get up to the monorail
- 33:57platform, you know, different things like that.
- 33:59Like exercise, calf workout to get them, you're up that.
- 34:05Hill. So if it were me and I was
- 34:07taking both of my kids by myself, I would have to plan
- 34:09those leg breaks accordingly. And that would go into my plan
- 34:12of if I'm doing a sit down meal if I'm alternating you know
- 34:16waiting versus Genie plus you know a little bit of that maybe
- 34:19to help if I'm doing some shows in between lots of different
- 34:23ways that you can do that or if we're taking like a full on
- 34:25resort break in the middle of the day.
- 34:27So lots of different options, but just really think about, you
- 34:32know, don't don't try to do too much because you'll just your
- 34:36your kids need you in that moment and if you have
- 34:39overexerted yourself and you have tapped out, no one's going
- 34:43to be having a good time at the at the parks, so.
- 34:47Yeah. And if stroller is not something
- 34:49that you want to do, but you know that your kiddo is maybe
- 34:52like toddler age or younger. You know, sometimes like the
- 34:56little kid like trying to the carriers, right, that you can
- 34:59carry your kiddo in like we used one that was, I don't remember
- 35:02the name of it. It's Ergo.
- 35:03I think I used the Ergo carrier. I was like what was the name of
- 35:05it? And it was transitioned from the
- 35:08front to the back. And so we can carry them on our
- 35:10back as we needed as they got a little bit older.
- 35:12And that thing saved us so many times, especially when our kids
- 35:15got tired. But they wouldn't.
- 35:17Our kids would not sleep in the stroller.
- 35:19I don't know you guys who have kids be in the stroller.
- 35:22I'm so jealous like mine. Wouldn't either?
- 35:27But they would sleep if I was carrying them, so that would
- 35:30really saved me a lot, especially when I was when I was
- 35:35by myself or a high had bike kid while my family was elsewhere.
- 35:38It was like it was really easy to be able to carry them around,
- 35:40so I would hopefully recommend that.
- 35:43Yeah, lots of lots of different options for that.
- 35:46They also have now, I've seen like ones that you put kind of
- 35:49on your hip for like older kids that they can sit on while
- 35:52you're holding them to save your arms.
- 35:54Lots of different options for that type of thing.
- 35:56So definitely something like that.
- 35:59That looks amazing. I know.
- 36:00I'm like, I'm jealous. My My kids are too big now.
- 36:07Yeah. Yeah, but.
- 36:08But also along those lines of taking a break, utilizing quiet
- 36:11spots in the park. If you need a break, you like
- 36:15things like playgrounds for the kids to burn off energy.
- 36:18There are several playgrounds across the parks depending on
- 36:22where you are and what parks you're visiting where they can
- 36:25burn off energy. I mean, just off the top of my
- 36:28head, I know of a couple that are at Epcot.
- 36:31Magic Kingdom has a couple places you could go.
- 36:34You can go to Tom Sawyer Island. There's lots of different places
- 36:37that you can go if you just want to sit and be able to see your
- 36:41kids while they burn off some extra energy.
- 36:44Yeah, and here in Disneyland they have in Toontown, there's
- 36:49like the Goofy's house has all kinds of places where they can
- 36:53run and play, and you can sit and just watch them or play with
- 36:56them, you know, depending on what you need.
- 36:59They used to have a kind of big grassy area for the play and but
- 37:01they've been using it for stroller parking recently, so
- 37:03it's a little bit less likely that they'd run around that
- 37:05area. Toontown's a great one.
- 37:08And then over in California Adventure Redwood Creek
- 37:11Challenge Trail is really great. It is.
- 37:13Depending on the age of your kids, you might have to run
- 37:16around with them because it's a really big space.
- 37:18So when my kids were really little, we had like the every
- 37:23with the slides. We just like parked it there and
- 37:25my kid would run up and go down the slide a couple times and
- 37:28then I could sit down and have a break.
- 37:31But if your kids are older and you feel comfortable, you can
- 37:34probably, they can probably run around there, but that's a good
- 37:37place to get energy out to. Even something just as simple
- 37:40as, like finding a space where it's a little bit of grass or a
- 37:43little bit of shade or whatever. And if you've got bubbles with
- 37:46you or you've got something like that, that can you know that the
- 37:49kids will run. If you've got Littles, it'll run
- 37:51around and play, you know, and be content with that for even
- 37:54just 2-3 minutes so you can catch a quick breather, drink
- 37:56some water and then be ready to go again.
- 38:00Yeah, also like the jumping fountains that I've caught is a
- 38:03really fun place too. They can kind of like try to
- 38:05catch the water and things like that.
- 38:07So yeah. And we talked about earlier
- 38:09utilizing those baby care centers.
- 38:10Like Kate said, often times they'll have a movie in there,
- 38:12they'll have little tables and chairs that the kids can sit at
- 38:16while you sit on the benches, you know, lots of different
- 38:18options for that. So just make sure that you're,
- 38:20you're taking that into consideration when you're making
- 38:22your plans and knowing kind of where you can go if you get to a
- 38:26certain point in the afternoon and you're like we need a break.
- 38:30And I would also say, I think and people who are solo parents
- 38:35all the time probably already know this, but people who maybe
- 38:39are taking us a kids solo who aren't used to doing it just,
- 38:43you know, it's it's tough because you don't have anybody
- 38:47there who you can hand your kid off to, you know.
- 38:49And so for all people who are traveling solo with kids, make
- 38:54sure you find a time to take a little mental break for
- 38:56yourself. Whether you take a break back at
- 38:58the hotel maybe and let your kid watch your favorite show or read
- 39:02a book or whatever it is that you can have a little time away
- 39:06to adults for a little bit. Because it can get very
- 39:11exhausting being always on because there's nobody else that
- 39:16is watching your kiddo. So that's my advice.
- 39:19Time for yourself. As well, yes, I think that's
- 39:22great advice. So that kind of wraps up our
- 39:25little section on solo parenting.
- 39:28Like I said, this is kind of a hodgepodge episode of a couple
- 39:30different topics. So we're going to jump now into
- 39:34some advice for if you're traveling in uneven numbers, or
- 39:39if you know that you're going to be going on certain types of
- 39:42rides and uneven numbers, we want to kind of give a little
- 39:46bit of advice. There's not a ton we can say
- 39:48other than here's some advice for specific rides.
- 39:53No. Yeah.
- 39:55Well, I mean, I have a family of five and the world was built for
- 40:00the family of four. Everything is built for a family
- 40:03of four. It is very frustrating to travel
- 40:06with a family of five to the point where I'm just like, this
- 40:09is just ridiculous. Like now Dizzy does make some
- 40:12accommodations. They have things like hotel
- 40:14rooms that hold, you know, 5 people and whatnot.
- 40:17I can't even imagine having more than five.
- 40:19So I'm God bless you if you've got more than, you know, three
- 40:23children, but. But it does make it.
- 40:27It is like a lot of Disney things, luckily are not all
- 40:30designed just for a family of four.
- 40:32So do you want to talk a little bit about?
- 40:35Yeah, so taking a few seconds to review your ride choices,
- 40:40because we talked about, you know, we always talk about
- 40:42planning and and prioritizing those ride lists and determining
- 40:45which ones you might need to plan ahead to figure out how
- 40:49your kiddos and grown-ups are going to sit.
- 40:52So there are several rides that will seat three or more across
- 40:58depending on your needs. So lots of them at Epcot 3 Cabs,
- 41:04Figment, Living With the Land, Sauron, Mission Space, and Test
- 41:07Track will all accommodate more than just two.
- 41:10When you're going on those rides at Hollywood Studios, Star
- 41:14Tours, Tower of Terror, and Alien Swirling Saucers will
- 41:17accommodate more than two, so those are all rides that you'll
- 41:20be good to go. You won't have to worry about
- 41:23what combinations you're going to use for those.
- 41:27Quite a few at Magic Kingdom. The Railroad, obviously is one
- 41:30with those bench seats. Jungle Cruise, Pirates of the
- 41:33Caribbean, Haunted Mansion. You can typically squeeze 3IN if
- 41:37you've. Got.
- 41:39If if you've got smaller kiddos, we squeezed all four of us into
- 41:44Haunted Mansion on my last trip with my daughter on my lap.
- 41:49And the cast members were like, You sure?
- 41:51We're like, yeah, we're good because we wanted to ride.
- 41:54Together, three adults is not. Unless they're nine adults.
- 41:57Three adults he's not. Because Kirk and Lev and I all
- 42:00in one, and I was like, we are in here.
- 42:04Yeah, yeah, on on my trip in May, my, my friends Becca and
- 42:09Ellie and I all squeezed into one dune buggy, and it was real
- 42:12close. You're like, hey, we are.
- 42:15Nope. So that one has kind of an
- 42:18asterisk by it, so to speak, because if you've got Littles,
- 42:22you'll probably be OK Small World, Mad Tea Party and Peter
- 42:28Pan will all fit more than just two, so it'll be good on those.
- 42:32And then an animal Kingdom dinosaur, the Safari and Kali
- 42:36River Rapids will all seat more than two.
- 42:38So this next little list is like kind of like what we said with
- 42:41Haunted Mansion. These ones you could probably
- 42:44squeeze if you need to. I would not say, you know that
- 42:49we're talking about squeezing with kids here.
- 42:52So not not talking more than two adults, but if you had to
- 42:57squeeze, you could probably squeeze more than more than two,
- 43:02probably not more than three, but you could squeeze 3 on at
- 43:06Epcot, Nemo, you could squeeze into your clamshell, you could
- 43:09squeeze 3. Magic Kingdom.
- 43:12There are several that are kind of set up to appear as two
- 43:16seaters that you could Squeeze, Magic Carpets, Big Thunder
- 43:20Mountain, Dumbo, Pooh Bear, Peter Pan, Little Mermaid, the
- 43:25Speedway, and People Mover. Yeah.
- 43:29So those are all ones that you could squeeze and then on in
- 43:33animal Kingdom Triceratops spin you could squeeze as well.
- 43:39I was trying to think about these for Disneyland.
- 43:41I know, and I couldn't find a good list for Disneyland.
- 43:44So most of them, you know, if you've got a lot of the ride
- 43:48vehicles for like the dark rides are very similar to what you see
- 43:51at Disney World for Disneyland. So most of them will see two, or
- 43:54you could squeeze three if you've got little kiddos with
- 43:57you. Yeah, like Space Mountain in
- 44:01Disney, it's two and two. So you can you'd be OK for that.
- 44:09And then I'm like trying to think of all the others, but
- 44:10they're a lot of them are similar to Magic Kingdom.
- 44:13So the things that we said here pretty much apply.
- 44:16Peter Pan's flight is seated is different.
- 44:18So you it's another one, it's only one bench seat versus
- 44:20there's two in Magic Kingdom. So that is you probably Max
- 44:24could fit three like two adults and a child probably or adult
- 44:28and two children. But yeah, I I think just in
- 44:32general thinking about what ride you're going on and how you're
- 44:37going to do that. And again, it got tricky for us
- 44:39because when it's just me and my husband and then I have one
- 44:43kiddo that was like too young to ride by themselves, but other
- 44:46two that could, you know. And so then I just had to like
- 44:49do this combination of like, OK, well, who's gonna fit with the
- 44:52one who can't ride by themselves?
- 44:54Or if you have multiple ones that can't ride by themselves,
- 44:57you gotta, you know, split that up so that it works.
- 45:00It's a lot of mental math of like, who's sitting with you,
- 45:03with you. Unfortunately, yeah.
- 45:07And it's like we mentioned earlier, anyone who is under the
- 45:10age of seven has to have someone 14 or older riding with them.
- 45:14I was like, wait, how did they? So just keep that in mind and
- 45:19thank you. Yes, I missed somehow that rise
- 45:21of the Resistance is four in a row too.
- 45:22I don't know how that got missed off my list.
- 45:24So thank you for that. But yeah, so again, you can look
- 45:29up if there's certain rides that you're like, I don't know how
- 45:31many or you haven't been on it before and you're like, I don't
- 45:34know how it works. Lots of things that you can just
- 45:37Google online or look up a point of view or you know, lots of
- 45:40ways that you can find that online.
- 45:41That was just kind of my off the top of my head list that I could
- 45:44think of when I was thinking down through all of the
- 45:47different rides at the parks, so.
- 45:50Yeah, Kayla's saying she didn't know I had kids.
- 45:54I do have three. I have a kid.
- 45:55I have three kids. I have a 13 year old, an 11 year
- 46:01old, and an 8 year old. How to think about that?
- 46:02Because she just turned. As I say, you just had
- 46:04birthdays. But they all changed.
- 46:07Yeah, so I've got three kids. So that's why we do this podcast
- 46:10of Mon St. USA to help parents and people
- 46:13who also go to the park with children have better Disney
- 46:17vacation. So yeah, Speaking of which, an
- 46:20option for that, but obviously this would be for older kids
- 46:25that are I guess technically older than 7.
- 46:29But you know, that depends on your comfort level like we
- 46:31talked about. But if you can use single rider
- 46:35and everybody's OK with not sitting together, this is really
- 46:38in critical. Don't go on single rider and
- 46:41expect to sit together, don't do it.
- 46:44That's it's very clearly single rider for a reason because
- 46:46they're just pulling you to fill a seat.
- 46:48That's so you have a plan to meet up with your kid at the
- 46:52end, Wait for me at X place. If they go ahead of you or you
- 46:56know me, maybe you go first so you could wait for them at the
- 46:59end. Whatever works best.
- 47:01But in Disney World, they have a test track, X, there's an Abra's
- 47:06Walking Roller coaster and Mother's Run.
- 47:08Here in Disneyland we have Goofy, Sky School and Credit
- 47:11Coaster, Radiator Springs Racers, Grizzly River, Run, Web,
- 47:15Slingers, Soren, Smugglers Run Mattered, Horn and Space
- 47:18Mountain all have Single Rider and they're they're great.
- 47:22If you're if you're a solo and a particle thing they're pretty
- 47:25great. But there are also things here
- 47:29in a lot of people don't know that Soren has single rider
- 47:32here. It was not labeled.
- 47:33So you have to go up and like ask for a single rider and
- 47:36they'll like put you in the right place for that.
- 47:39So, but it's kind of like a hidden Seek Rider Single.
- 47:44And then there's also the. Buddy.
- 47:45Pass for Monsters Inc that they have here and I've just recently
- 47:52heard about this, but it's like 1 because they seat.
- 47:57What is it two and two or three and three?
- 47:59Like you have to have like 2 of you and then they you pass for a
- 48:03buddy pass and then you can bypass the line to get to it.
- 48:06I I need to do a little bit more research into that you know
- 48:09exactly how to do it. Yeah.
- 48:11Recently. Interesting.
- 48:13I hadn't heard of that, so. Yeah, I would.
- 48:15If you find out more, please share with us on a future
- 48:17episode or in the Discord. There's another one for another
- 48:20ride and I can't. Remember what it is.
- 48:21If anybody does, please speak up at the chat, because I haven't
- 48:24used it myself. I've just seen other people use
- 48:26it. So yeah, and I have a question,
- 48:30do we think that Rye should have single rider?
- 48:38I don't know where they would put it.
- 48:39They would have to. Do the exit or something, which
- 48:41would be interesting because of the way the queue works.
- 48:43So I don't know right, but because you would.
- 48:47Right. Like it's not set up to do that.
- 48:49And if they put you in that, you'd have to go into the
- 48:53initial pre show. So I don't know that there's
- 48:57necessarily a need because you have so many people funneled
- 49:01through the pre shows at one time.
- 49:03I don't know that there's necessarily as much of A need
- 49:06for a single rider at RISE just because of the the multiple pre
- 49:11shows and the way that you're kind of pushed through as a
- 49:13group and you meet up with the group in front of you.
- 49:16So I feel like there's enough people that they probably can
- 49:19just very easily pull from, put single riders in.
- 49:23But I've been on Ryze a couple of times where I've been in like
- 49:25a group of three and they don't put a fourth with us.
- 49:29Yeah, yeah, I don't. Know that would be interesting.
- 49:32It would be nice to have that option.
- 49:34I think it's single rider. I'm always pros, I mean.
- 49:38Short answer, yes, we would love to have single rider options on
- 49:42multiple more attractions if it's possible, but like again,
- 49:45some of them it just doesn't make sense to some of them
- 49:48there's no space to. So it really just depends and I
- 49:53will just. Mention just from a Disney.
- 49:54History, perspective. Single rider was kind of a Walt
- 49:57Disney, like he really was an advocate for the single rider
- 50:00option to get people that capacity level up.
- 50:03But we didn't really see it come into play until the rocket rods
- 50:06came about and Rocket Rods broke down like constantly and they
- 50:10had terrible capacity because of that.
- 50:12So that to move people through there faster, that's when they
- 50:15really started pushing that single rider option.
- 50:18But ever since then, it's really been kind of just part of the
- 50:21park culture. I'm about that.
- 50:23Interesting, yeah. So who?
- 50:25Who'd have thought? That there was a.
- 50:26History and a story behind Single Rider lines and
- 50:30everything. Jackie.
- 50:32I know. OK.
- 50:36So I think that kind of wraps up just some general information
- 50:39about uneven parties. Again, you just really have to
- 50:43plan ahead, Know who wants to ride what.
- 50:45Know if you've got people that don't want to do some of the
- 50:48thrill rides, it may solve that problem for you.
- 50:51So just really talk to the people that you're traveling
- 50:54with, find out what everybody wants to do and and make your
- 50:57plans accordingly. Yeah.
- 51:00So shall we move on to our third part of this hodgepodge Friday?
- 51:05Shall we? Yes, which will be traveling
- 51:10with thrill seekers and non thrill seekers.
- 51:13Basically people who want to do 2 different things.
- 51:16What do you do in that situation?
- 51:19And this comes up a lot because you've got maybe kids that are
- 51:24too scared or too young or too short don't want to do thrill
- 51:27rides or maybe some older adults that are like I don't want to do
- 51:31a thrill ride or you have teenagers that want to go do all
- 51:34the thrill rides travelling with Elsa.
- 51:36I mean, you know, anytime you have this like mixed group, it
- 51:39becomes very complicated, very fast because people are like, I
- 51:42don't want to do that, I want to go do this.
- 51:44So what do we do, Jackie? What do we do with that
- 51:47situation so? My.
- 51:49Biggest suggestion is there are often other attractions or
- 51:53activities that can be done while you're waiting.
- 51:56Most of the time it's going to be your thrill seekers are doing
- 52:01a thrill ride and everyone else that doesn't want to do that is
- 52:03waiting. OK, So what does that look like?
- 52:06The first thing that I will always suggest is if you're
- 52:08utilizing Genie Plus, it's super easy to do.
- 52:11You can very easily select and unselect people from those
- 52:16different times. Now, it is tricky to get times
- 52:19that always coordinate with each other.
- 52:21So it really just depends on the day.
- 52:23It depends on how busy it is. It depends on what rides you're
- 52:26trying to do. Lots of different things with
- 52:27that. But it is possible to do that on
- 52:29GE Plus. So I get that question a lot
- 52:31because I do so much with the app.
- 52:34It is possible to only have two of your six do Big Thunder
- 52:39Mountain because the other four don't want to ride it.
- 52:41You can absolutely manipulate that on the app, so that's where
- 52:45I would start from. There, you just got to look.
- 52:50Around I would not include the people who are.
- 52:52Not going to go on the ride on that reservation because then
- 52:55you're just. Creating a big headache for
- 52:57yourself? Yeah, yes, because if they don't
- 53:00then tap into the lightning lane, it will mess up your
- 53:04ability to book your next one. So just don't even include them
- 53:08if they don't want to ride it. Don't even put them on there
- 53:11because it'll be much easier. And even if you don't book
- 53:14something for them in the meantime, it will still be
- 53:16easier because once those that are riding the thrill ride tap
- 53:19into that lightning lane, the people that are not on the ride
- 53:22can be booking the next one. So.
- 53:25Just don't even put them on. There.
- 53:27Open up like they don't exist. That's crazy.
- 53:31No ride for you. No for you.
- 53:36Yeah, absolutely. So I love.
- 53:40Jackie Jackie is so great. She made-up the list of because
- 53:44I've been busy at Disneyland this week.
- 53:46Obviously this list of main thrill rides at each park and a
- 53:50suggested non thrill activity to go with it.
- 53:52And then I looked over the Disneyland ones to to help her
- 53:55out a little bit. But do you want to talk about
- 53:56Magic Kingdom a little bit? Yeah.
- 53:58So again, these. Are what I would consider thrill
- 54:02rides. Different people have different
- 54:04opinions on what thrill rides are.
- 54:05Are not Don't come for me, this is rides that maybe kids would
- 54:11be. Uncomfortable or too short to go
- 54:13on? Like, let's just go with that.
- 54:15Definite, right? Yes.
- 54:18So at Magic. Kingdom Big Thunder Mountain is
- 54:221 so with Big Thunder Mountain places nearby that you can go to
- 54:29do, there is still the play space that is by what will
- 54:32future be Tiana's Bayou Adventure.
- 54:35Last I knew that play space that was from formerly Splash
- 54:38Mountain was still open. If someone who has been to the
- 54:43parks recently knows different please let us know.
- 54:45But last I knew, that little play area that they had at the
- 54:48exit of what was Splash Mountain is still open.
- 54:51So that is one place you could go.
- 54:52You could hop on the railroad. If the line is super long for
- 54:57Big Thunder and you people are planning on waiting, hop on the
- 55:01railroad and take it for a spin. That'll take up a good amount of
- 55:04time. So we're.
- 55:06Yeah, yeah, exactly. Exactly.
- 55:09And then kind of down and around the corner, you've also got the
- 55:13tiki room that is not too far away that you could go and enjoy
- 55:16the show over there for that as well, yeah.
- 55:20And. We have this.
- 55:23Do you want me? To go go for it.
- 55:27We have the seven. Dwarfs mine Train nearby.
- 55:30We also we have Little Mermaid ride as nearby as well as poo
- 55:35and then the teacups are also there.
- 55:36So those are all really easy ones.
- 55:38And if it was a really long line you could also maybe do
- 55:41Enchanted Tales with Belle. That's around the corner too, so
- 55:44if your kid wants to do that one.
- 55:45I always love that attraction, and I always forget it's there
- 55:47because it was closed, so right. Yeah.
- 55:51Oh, yeah, 7:00. Dwarfs is an easy one.
- 55:52There's so much around that you could do.
- 55:54You could even venture up into Storybook Circus and do Dumbo or
- 55:57walk through the shop or there's character.
- 55:59I mean, there's a ton to do around there.
- 56:01I just kind of picked the three that were closest.
- 56:04Yeah, sure. There's so.
- 56:05Many things to do there, yeah. And then Tron is the big.
- 56:08Thrill ride that just opened, you know, most recently it's a
- 56:12little more out of the way. So my suggestion is if you're
- 56:16going to Tron, depending on which direction you're
- 56:19approaching it from, you can approach it from like we just
- 56:22talking about Storybook Circus area.
- 56:23There's a ton to do in there. If you're approaching it from
- 56:26Tomorrowland, there's not as much on the way.
- 56:29So I would stop at either the Tomorrowland Speedway or venture
- 56:34up into the teacups. And then you're kind of in that
- 56:36area of Fantasyland again where you have a lot to do there as
- 56:39well, yeah. We I have a.
- 56:43Comment too that says Tom. Tom Sawyer Island is a great one
- 56:46also for Big Thunder Mountain that is really close to there.
- 56:48So I agree that's a that's a great one.
- 56:50And you didn't list Space Mountain, but I would the stuff
- 56:54that's by Tron also applies for that and like a people Uber is
- 56:58in that area as well and Astro Orbiter and all those kinds of
- 57:01things. So lots of things to do in that
- 57:04area makes Space and Tron pretty much the same area.
- 57:08So you didn't do the thing. Yeah, I don't know how I.
- 57:11I missed that. One sorry.
- 57:13It's cool. I was just like.
- 57:14I think space is on there too. I'm considered all a thrill
- 57:17ride. It was like the original 1.
- 57:19Great. But I have it down for
- 57:21Disneyland. I just.
- 57:22Forgot it for Disney World and I just want to put this.
- 57:25Put this out there that from the other Disney history
- 57:28perspective, the There were really no thrill rides when
- 57:33Magic Kingdom opened in 1971 because they thought they were
- 57:38planning like Disneyland was a local community.
- 57:41Like it's the ones that mostly went to the parks.
- 57:43Even though they were planning it to be a vacation destination,
- 57:46they still assumed a lot of it would be locals and they thought
- 57:49a lot of the local population of Florida was maybe on the elderly
- 57:52side. So they planned a lot more shows
- 57:55instead of thrill rides and they quickly realized that they
- 58:00needed to remedy that over the years have.
- 58:02But that's why Magic Kingdom has so many fit down shows.
- 58:06It's because of that reason. So it's great.
- 58:10Good to know. No, that's.
- 58:12Great. So let's hop over to.
- 58:15Epcot A couple thrill rides in Epcot.
- 58:19Now, I will say there are some other rides here that are dark
- 58:21rides that might have drops or might have kind of a few little
- 58:24spaces that might be considered thrilling.
- 58:27I'm not including those on this list, kind of going for the more
- 58:31big thrill rides like Kate and I mentioned.
- 58:33So at Epcot Cosmic Rewind, obviously Guardians of the
- 58:37Galaxy is a big throw right over there.
- 58:40Lots of different options there. They've got a couple play places
- 58:43in Mission Space, A play place by Connections.
- 58:46There's usually one right on that side, right outside there.
- 58:48It's usually themed to whatever festival's going on.
- 58:52If you venture kind of towards World Showcase 3, Caballeros is
- 58:55right around the the corner that you could do that as well.
- 58:57So lots of different options and lots of just sites to take in at
- 59:02Epcot. I feel like, yeah, yeah, all
- 59:05that new. Area they just put in with all
- 59:06the lights and stuff too. So they said at night time
- 59:09that's a fun yeah. And it was interesting because
- 59:12as I was. Looking this up, pretty much the
- 59:14majority of the thrill rides at Epcot are all like on the same
- 59:17side of the map. So.
- 59:20Those options, kind of. Hold true, if you're looking at
- 59:23something like mission space or Test track, Test Track is
- 59:25questionable as a thrill ride. You know, it's kind of just got
- 59:28that fast part towards the end. So give or take, if you choose
- 59:32to consider that a throw ride, same with Mission space.
- 59:35It's a throw ride for those of us and maybe you don't
- 59:36appreciate the type of attraction that that is, no.
- 59:41Mission Space Spring and if you wanted to wander a.
- 59:45Little bit further too, you could walk over to Moana journey
- 59:49of water. That would be a really great
- 59:50place to take the kids. It's just a tiny bit of a longer
- 59:53walk, but not that bad. So well, and now that that
- 59:56center space. Is open in Epcot.
- 59:58It really opens up a world of possibilities because you can go
- 1:00:01towards Spaceship Earth, you can cut straight across, and you can
- 1:00:04go towards Figment or Nemo. They're really not that far now
- 1:00:07that you can actually walk through the center.
- 1:00:11And you're not having to go out and around to get to things.
- 1:00:13It's really not that far. When you're going between those,
- 1:00:16those two areas, Yeah, I'm not gonna.
- 1:00:20I'm not gonna know what to do with myself.
- 1:00:22I know, 'cause I'm the well, so I'll be walking around just
- 1:00:27'cause I don't know how to go through anyone, right?
- 1:00:30So we. That's pretty much Epcot a
- 1:00:32nutshell, because those are the major thrill ride.
- 1:00:34Should we move on to Hollywood studios?
- 1:00:36Yes. So we've got.
- 1:00:39Smugglers run, so while you're in that area of Batu you can do
- 1:00:44some bounty hunting, which is a great one using I just uses the
- 1:00:49light app, I haven't used it in a long.
- 1:00:51Time you've it's. With your.
- 1:00:52Magic Band Plus, it has to be a Magic Band plus if you're going
- 1:00:55to do that. So not the old school ones, but
- 1:00:57the new fancy LED chargeable ones.
- 1:01:00And then yes, the Play Disney app.
- 1:01:02So those are the only two things that you need.
- 1:01:04You start, there's like a screen that you start on that will send
- 1:01:09you kind of all around and it's like a giant game of hot and
- 1:01:12cold, super fun. You can also do shopping in the.
- 1:01:16Marketplace and or you can walk out and go to Muppets and I
- 1:01:21think you could also go the other way if if aliens were
- 1:01:25aliens were soccer didn't have that vulnerable await you know
- 1:01:30you could go that way or midway I mean yet those but those do
- 1:01:33tend to have a longer weight so it depends on how long smugglers
- 1:01:38run how long the weight is there if you want to attempt one of
- 1:01:41those Yep absolutely and. I don't know why I didn't put
- 1:01:44these together on the list, but we'll talk about Rise of the
- 1:01:46Resistance quickly, since we're kind of already in that area.
- 1:01:49Same idea. They're both in that same
- 1:01:51Galaxy's Edge area. So depending on which way you
- 1:01:53want to walk, if you're walking towards the Marketplace, if
- 1:01:55you're going towards Toy Story, if you're going back towards
- 1:01:58Muppets, all of those options hold the same for if you're
- 1:02:00waiting on someone doing Rise of the Resistance, sure.
- 1:02:05And then we've got rock. And Roller Coaster as another
- 1:02:09and Tower of Terror. We'll kind of combine those two
- 1:02:11together as well because they're basically in the same area.
- 1:02:14That area is a little more secluded, not as many options if
- 1:02:17you don't want to walk too far. They do have the Lightning
- 1:02:20McQueen Racing Academy show that exists at the the far end of
- 1:02:24that, that walkway as well, which is a good one.
- 1:02:28It's super cute. Like even if you've got a little
- 1:02:30bit older kids, maybe night might not want to the Lightning
- 1:02:32McQueen animatronic, I guess you would call it is really cool.
- 1:02:35So, you know, I think it's neat. Someday.
- 1:02:40Someday add it to the list of. And then they've.
- 1:02:44Also got the Beauty and the Beast musical that is on that
- 1:02:47air in that area as well. So if you time that accurately,
- 1:02:51I think they do show times every hour from like it's usually like
- 1:02:5410:00-ish to 5:00-ish depending on the day.
- 1:02:57So check your app for times for that.
- 1:02:59But you would might be able to sit and catch that while your
- 1:03:02party goes and does both of rock'n'roll coaster and tower
- 1:03:06tear, depending on the timing, yeah.
- 1:03:10OK. So then we also have Slinky Dog
- 1:03:12Dash. And that again is like what I
- 1:03:15said, because it was right next to Rise.
- 1:03:17So it's going to be like Aliens, Swirling Saucers or Toy Story
- 1:03:19Mania, probably going to be your age or two.
- 1:03:21Or you could grab a snack at Woody's Lunchbox there and just
- 1:03:25sit down and well, if you could find a seat.
- 1:03:30So Drew Seating is not as ambitious for me to say you
- 1:03:33should sit down, but you could grab a snack there and maybe
- 1:03:37stand and eat it in the sun. In the sun.
- 1:03:43All my memories of eating there is always.
- 1:03:45Standing in the sun to eat. Yeah, it's not easy to find
- 1:03:49seats. There, that's for sure.
- 1:03:51OK, let's hop over now to Animal Kingdom.
- 1:03:56A couple different thrill rides over here.
- 1:03:59Flight of Passage is one over in the Pandora area.
- 1:04:02Really the best thing that you've got there is if you want
- 1:04:05to do Navi River Journey or I mean even just walking around in
- 1:04:09that area, they've got lots of little interactive, They've got
- 1:04:11like a little drum area that the kids can play the drums.
- 1:04:13They've got lots of socially. If it's towards evening time, if
- 1:04:17the park is open that long, it gets really pretty and lit up.
- 1:04:20There's lots to look at. So walking around or doing
- 1:04:23Knobby River Journey are your best options there, Yeah, sure.
- 1:04:26And. Then when it comes to dinosaur,
- 1:04:29which sounds like it would be a kid friendly ride, but it's
- 1:04:32really not. Nope.
- 1:04:35Lying for children? And really quite violently bumps
- 1:04:39you around, so just keep that in mind.
- 1:04:42The warnings are accurate for that.
- 1:04:45With Triceratops spin, there's also carnival games, so you can
- 1:04:48also like, look, there's a couple of animals that are
- 1:04:50there. There's also the boneyard, if
- 1:04:52it's open, that's a play space that you think will be.
- 1:04:56Yes, that's true. That's one that I always forget
- 1:04:59about because I feel like it was closed for so long, but it has
- 1:05:02been reopened. Again.
- 1:05:03So yes, I would add that to that list for sure.
- 1:05:05Bone Yard. It's like a big old.
- 1:05:07Playground with only one entrance, so that's good.
- 1:05:09If you know your kids are older, they can run around by
- 1:05:11themselves, or you can run around with them if they're
- 1:05:13littler and you need to keep an eye on them.
- 1:05:16But there's only one way in and one way out, which is always
- 1:05:18great as a parent to not have to worry about them running out.
- 1:05:22So that's helpful, absolutely. So then also Expedition Everest,
- 1:05:27another thrill ride at Animal Kingdom.
- 1:05:28A couple different options for this one, depending on where
- 1:05:32you're headed or where you're coming from.
- 1:05:34The theater for the Finding Music Finding Nemo musical is
- 1:05:37not far away from that, it's just right across the bridge, so
- 1:05:39if you've timed that correctly, that is an option.
- 1:05:42Keep in mind though, that show is like a full half hour.
- 1:05:45So if you're planning on that, maybe if it's 1/2 hour wait
- 1:05:48forever soon your party's going to wait.
- 1:05:50That would be and the timing is right that would work out.
- 1:05:53You also have kind of back the other direction, Cali River
- 1:05:57Rapids and the Maharaja Jungle Trek walking trail for animals.
- 1:06:01So a couple different options that you could utilize.
- 1:06:04If you're in that area of the park, yeah, that's a great
- 1:06:07option. Because you can kind of control
- 1:06:09your timing for that too, because you can speed up if you
- 1:06:12know that they're probably, you know, you can take your time if
- 1:06:16it might take a while. And there's also a little, a lot
- 1:06:19of little places in there to get snacks and stuff too, which is,
- 1:06:23yeah, I will say with Everest. If the line is not terribly
- 1:06:26long, my kids love sitting. If you go all the way to the end
- 1:06:31of the walkway towards the mountain, there's some benches
- 1:06:35that you can sit and watch the trains come down through the
- 1:06:37mountain on the ride. My kids love sitting there and
- 1:06:41they could probably sit there for 20 to 25 minutes and be
- 1:06:45perfectly content, yeah. It's fun thing about that.
- 1:06:49It's like you watch the one go up and you watch the one come
- 1:06:51down and it's very satisfying. I don't know why.
- 1:06:55And it's fun because, like, we've been able to.
- 1:06:57Like catch, like my husband, when he's been on, when we've
- 1:06:59been watching, we're like, oh, look, there he is.
- 1:07:02I've done that with Elliot because he's he will.
- 1:07:04I'll go on once and that's like as much as I can do and then
- 1:07:07he'll continue to go on it. And so I'll go sit there and
- 1:07:09wait for him and just wait as he goes.
- 1:07:14Great. I think that's all for Animal
- 1:07:16Kingdom. Should we hop over to
- 1:07:18Disneyland? Yes, let's talk about West
- 1:07:20Coast, so. Big Thunder Mountain, What's
- 1:07:26nearby? The Mark Twain Columbia,
- 1:07:28depending on what's running or what's going around.
- 1:07:30Right now, the Mark Twain is still under refurbishment, so
- 1:07:33it's just the Columbia, the Tiki room is not very far away.
- 1:07:36Nothing's really that far away in Disneyland, you guys know.
- 1:07:41Also, I threw in their storytelling at Royal Theatre
- 1:07:43only if it's running on that particular day and check the
- 1:07:46showtimes for that. But that show is wonderful and I
- 1:07:50think not enough people go to it.
- 1:07:51So storytelling at Royal Theatre is fun.
- 1:07:55Go there and make Kate. Happy.
- 1:07:58And then the Adventureland. Treehouse, which is now reopened
- 1:08:02Hazama it it's a really fun one that doesn't take very long to
- 1:08:07go through that one. So you might have you were able
- 1:08:10to combine two things to do that maybe you have a snack and do
- 1:08:14the Adventureland Treehouse. Then there's also the Gadget
- 1:08:18coaster, which is actually a pretty small coaster, so most
- 1:08:20kids probably would do that one. But those if if you have one
- 1:08:24that wants to and one that doesn't, there's tons of stuff
- 1:08:26to do over in Toontown, I would say that's also good for Roger
- 1:08:29Rabbit Spin. Some kids don't want to go on
- 1:08:31that one for some reason. Maybe it looks a little more
- 1:08:33intimidating, but there's character meets.
- 1:08:36There's just exploring Toontown in general with like Goofy's
- 1:08:39house and whatnot. And then there's also a runaway
- 1:08:42railway. That would be harder if you just
- 1:08:44said it's a long line so you have to budget time for that.
- 1:08:48But Gadget goes lawn too. It's only what, a 23 second ride
- 1:08:51but the OR lawn? So there goes it.
- 1:08:54Only one. That's crazy if I just.
- 1:08:57Won't wait for it anymore. Yeah, with my.
- 1:09:01I have other things too. You're like no thank you.
- 1:09:05Also. In Disneyland, we've got.
- 1:09:07The Indiana Jones adventure, which is very similar in a lot
- 1:09:09of ways to dinosaur which we just talked about in Animal
- 1:09:11Kingdom, can be fairly rough for kiddos and for non kiddos too.
- 1:09:18So some options that are nearby there, Jungle Cruise, the tree
- 1:09:23house again and pirates depending on again wait times
- 1:09:26and that, those types of things. But those are some other options
- 1:09:29that you could use for that. Some kids are super intimidated.
- 1:09:32By the two drops on Pirates, though, so keep that in mind.
- 1:09:36My kids hated hated pirates because of the drops for a long
- 1:09:40time when they're just now starting to come around.
- 1:09:43Yeah, my. My kids got re mad at Pirates
- 1:09:47when we just went to Disney World because we got wet because
- 1:09:50the Disney World one. I feel like over the last two
- 1:09:52years has gotten more like you get more wet on it than you ever
- 1:09:56used to. And I always forget to remind my
- 1:09:59kids. And my son was really.
- 1:10:03Unhappy with me, at least that you know how.
- 1:10:07When you go on Frozen and like the back of the seat is wet,
- 1:10:10Yep, you always get come off with like being wet in the back.
- 1:10:14Yeah, that's how Pirates is here.
- 1:10:16That I feel always coming off wet.
- 1:10:20And that's what happened to us at Disney.
- 1:10:22World. We sat down and my son looked at
- 1:10:24me and was like, mom, this is not OK.
- 1:10:27And I was like, oh, I'm sorry. There's literally.
- 1:10:30Nothing. You can do.
- 1:10:31You're like, man, this is our life.
- 1:10:32No, you're just wet. And when it's cold outside, it's
- 1:10:35even worse. Yeah, he was not happy with.
- 1:10:38Me and, yeah, the cannons, right, Becca?
- 1:10:39Becca said. The cannons.
- 1:10:40The cannons will get you on there, too.
- 1:10:42So it's not just the drop, it's the cannons, too.
- 1:10:46So. True.
- 1:10:47Yeah. So.
- 1:10:47Pirates, maybe? Maybe not, depending on your
- 1:10:50kids. Yeah, so then also the
- 1:10:55Matterhorn Bobsleds, you can go a lot of places you can.
- 1:10:59It's pretty much next to Fantasyland.
- 1:11:01Used to be part of Tomorrowland. Now it's part of Fantasyland.
- 1:11:03Officially, there's the Teacup story that land canal boats are
- 1:11:07the closest to that, but there's also Alice is right there.
- 1:11:11The small world is right around the corner.
- 1:11:14You can go. Autopia is not that far away
- 1:11:17either. Finding Nemo Submarines is
- 1:11:19around the corner if you want to go get claustrophobic.
- 1:11:25Lots of things to do, you know, I thought about putting.
- 1:11:30The submarine on my list. But I was like, oh, I don't know
- 1:11:32if kids would really enjoy that cuz I I I have not been to
- 1:11:35Disneyland yet. I have not done it yet.
- 1:11:38The kids I feel like mostly, really.
- 1:11:40Like that ride, it's very kid friendly.
- 1:11:42It's so they use the same technology as they do in the
- 1:11:47Nemo that's in the seas over in Epcot.
- 1:11:50They use that same technology for that ride as they did for
- 1:11:53this one. So it's very in that way, but
- 1:11:56it's like it's very fun for kids cuz they actually go under,
- 1:11:59You're in a submarine under the water like wind right up that.
- 1:12:02So most kids, I would say probably actually really like
- 1:12:05that, right. And it's parents that are like,
- 1:12:07oh, OK, so. Plan accordingly with that one
- 1:12:13in So in Disneyland. They also have Galaxy's Edge
- 1:12:16with Smugglers Run and Rise of the Resistance.
- 1:12:19Kate and I were messaging about this one.
- 1:12:20It's real far away, yes. So play.
- 1:12:24It accordingly if. You're going into Batu and you
- 1:12:28know that you've got people that don't want to ride Ryze or
- 1:12:31smugglers run. Depending on which direction
- 1:12:34you're coming from will depend on maybe what options you choose
- 1:12:39for that one. Kate, do you want to give a
- 1:12:40little insight on that for us? Yeah.
- 1:12:42So if you're coming. In from So there's three
- 1:12:45entrances to this area. So there's one that's like from
- 1:12:49Fantasyland into Frontierland. There's one that's mid
- 1:12:53Frontierland and there's one that's on the other side in
- 1:12:56Critter Country. OK, so if you're coming from
- 1:12:59Critter Country, you could backtrack you could go do the
- 1:13:02Haunted Mansion, you could go do the canoes, you could go do you
- 1:13:06could do Tom Sawyer Island. You could do the Railroad with a
- 1:13:09little farther walk for that. You can do anything on that
- 1:13:12side, right? Or you could go the other
- 1:13:14direction. You could go and go to
- 1:13:16Fantasyland and explore Casey Junior and Storybook Land, Canal
- 1:13:20boats and all the all the things like Snow White, Pinocchio, all
- 1:13:23the things like Carousel. So it really depends on where
- 1:13:25you go, but it is because it's just kind of tucked way back in
- 1:13:29the back of the park. This is why in this area of the
- 1:13:32park also kind of it like closes early and it provides the wait
- 1:13:36times drop at the end of the night because like nobody's back
- 1:13:38there at all front of the park. Yeah, fireworks and stuff.
- 1:13:42So they close. Rye's early here in Disneyland.
- 1:13:45The queue for it closes before the park closes, which is really
- 1:13:49different for Disney. So just be aware of that.
- 1:13:53But yeah, if you're in that back forty of the park, then you're
- 1:13:57going to have to walk somewhere to get to something if you're
- 1:14:01not going to just hang out in that too.
- 1:14:02So I would maybe just recommend getting a snack or the split
- 1:14:06before you go to Batu. Yep.
- 1:14:08I was going to say plan. Plan.
- 1:14:09So you don't even go into Batu like, unless you want to see it
- 1:14:12and walk around in there, obviously.
- 1:14:13But like, if you're like, Nah, I'm good, then just don't even
- 1:14:16go all the way back there. Yeah, there's some characters.
- 1:14:19And stuff that walk around, obviously that are really fun to
- 1:14:22see and Babe Yoda and all those kinds of things.
- 1:14:25So there's there's fun stuff to see there.
- 1:14:27It just is. It's not the best for having
- 1:14:30like Littles. There's no ride for Littles
- 1:14:32there, so that's awesome. Yeah.
- 1:14:35And then I think the last. One that we didn't talk about
- 1:14:38yet was Space Mountain, and really, Autopia is your best bet
- 1:14:41with that. It's the closest, but again,
- 1:14:43like Kate mentioned, there's a ton of stuff within walking
- 1:14:46distance pretty much anywhere you're at in Disneyland.
- 1:14:48It just depends on what your group wants to do, but Autopia
- 1:14:52would be your closest for Space Mountain.
- 1:14:54Yeah, Buzz Lightyear is not that.
- 1:14:56Far from there either you could go do that one, but it's again
- 1:15:00that wait can get really long. So it really depends on or
- 1:15:03what's going on. There's no people over, so you
- 1:15:05know not there about that at all.
- 1:15:08Also my. Subs.
- 1:15:10Is in that area too. It's it's narrower and or you
- 1:15:13could take a ride on the monorail because they will go,
- 1:15:15it'll go to the Disneyland hotel, but then I'll make a loop
- 1:15:18and come back so you can always do that as well.
- 1:15:21True. So see options.
- 1:15:24Should we go to California? Adventure.
- 1:15:26Yes, let's so. 1st on the list is Goofy Sky School and there
- 1:15:35are ten options depending on what you choose to do.
- 1:15:40So you can do jumping Jellyfish, The mermaid rides over there,
- 1:15:44Gold, The Golden Zephyr, Silly Symphony swings.
- 1:15:47Kate added a a pro tip for us. You can hang out.
- 1:15:51In the. Shady Paradise Gardens area.
- 1:15:54There Let's stay up. Live music.
- 1:15:56That's a nice little escape and you can also meet Coco and the
- 1:15:59Plaza de Familia. Also the Redwood Creek.
- 1:16:02Redwood Creek Challenge Trail is not that far, which we've
- 1:16:05already mentioned earlier, but that's not that far from there.
- 1:16:08Yeah, perfect. And.
- 1:16:09Then another thrill ride over in DCA Guardians of the Galaxy
- 1:16:13Mission Breakout. Again, a couple options over
- 1:16:16there. The red car Trolley.
- 1:16:18The Animation Academy is not far from there as well.
- 1:16:21If you want to go draw while you wait and turtle talk with Crush
- 1:16:24are over in that area as well, yeah.
- 1:16:28Then we have. The Incredi coaster over on that
- 1:16:32side, I love that they put it used to be in the Bugs Land
- 1:16:36area. They they rethemed it and put it
- 1:16:38over here. It's the inside out emotional
- 1:16:40whirlwind. It's kind of like sitting in the
- 1:16:42middle of a roller coaster. It's a very strange place for
- 1:16:45it. Some people don't even know it's
- 1:16:47there if they don't like walk back in that area, but that's a
- 1:16:49really fun one for Littles. Also, Jesse's Carousel, always a
- 1:16:54win for kids that like carousels and then yeah, and then
- 1:16:58everything else from Goofy's to high school.
- 1:16:59If you walk around the Bay there there's all kinds of things and
- 1:17:02if your kid likes Ferris wheels, don't go on.
- 1:17:05The swinging ones really like thrill rides, but the non
- 1:17:09swinging ones, as long as they're not afraid of heights,
- 1:17:11that's also what often they just can be really slow loading.
- 1:17:14So it might take a little bit longer to go on that one.
- 1:17:17So yeah, and then if. We venture back towards the cars
- 1:17:21area, Radiator Springs Racers again kind of on the same lines
- 1:17:25as what we said with test Track. Some people may consider that a
- 1:17:27thrill ride, some may not. Just depends on your personal
- 1:17:32opinion. But if you are someone who does
- 1:17:33not choose to ride that either Luigi's or Meters Junkyard
- 1:17:37Jamboree back in Cars would be options that you could use as
- 1:17:40well. Cars land tends to have longer
- 1:17:42waits for a lot of their attractions, so just plan
- 1:17:46accordingly. You may not be able to easily
- 1:17:48jump onto one of those other ones and wait.
- 1:17:50Just really depends on timing for sure, so.
- 1:17:55Then Grizzly River Run is the last one, which is pretty
- 1:17:58intimidating to a lot of kids cuz that's a really big drop in
- 1:18:01it and some cases don't like getting wet, which is also
- 1:18:05valid. So I would recommend the Redwood
- 1:18:08Creek Challenge Trail for that. It's right next door, right
- 1:18:11across the way. I think they designed it that
- 1:18:13way so it would be an easy play place for kids.
- 1:18:15So I I don't really have many recommendations beyond that.
- 1:18:18I think it's it's a great one and there's so many areas of it
- 1:18:22that there's stuff for Littles and stuff for bigger kids.
- 1:18:24So yeah, perfect. And I do want to.
- 1:18:28Mention that kind of wraps up the majority of our list.
- 1:18:30I think hopefully we hit everything other than when I
- 1:18:32forgot Space Mountain earlier. But if you are curious about a
- 1:18:37ride, if you're visiting for the first time to the parks, check
- 1:18:40out the app. Because if you click on the
- 1:18:42attractions on the app and you Scroll down on that particular
- 1:18:45attraction, it will tell you like what ages they suggest.
- 1:18:49It'll say kids, tweens, teens, everybody you know, like it'll
- 1:18:53give you some more input for that.
- 1:18:55It'll also tell you if they consider it, if Disney considers
- 1:18:58it a thrill ride, or if it's a dark ride or slow moving or
- 1:19:02drops. There's all sorts of information
- 1:19:04on there, so utilize that because that.
- 1:19:08Can be really really helpful. When you're planning, especially
- 1:19:11if you've never been on something before, I was.
- 1:19:14Finding new things in the app that I.
- 1:19:16Didn't know were there like and I'm like, I literally use this
- 1:19:20thing all the time, right? Like every month I'm on this
- 1:19:22thing. But you know, I really love also
- 1:19:25the Guest services tab. I think it's one that people
- 1:19:27overlook a lot, but that's where it will locate your baby care
- 1:19:30centers, your first aid stations, charging areas for
- 1:19:35like fuel rods and things like that.
- 1:19:37There's so many things that will tell you the services that are
- 1:19:41available. So that one's a really helpful
- 1:19:42one too. Yes, absolutely.
- 1:19:45So definitely use that to your advantage.
- 1:19:47Again, this was kind of a hodgepodge episode that kind of
- 1:19:51wraps up that particular section of information that we've got
- 1:19:55for you this evening. Shall we hop into our Ask the
- 1:19:58Moms for tonight? OK, so.
- 1:20:02If you. Do not know.
- 1:20:03We end every podcast episode with our Ask the Mom segment
- 1:20:07where we take a question from our Mom St. community that may
- 1:20:12or may not be related to the topics of our podcast episode
- 1:20:14and we do our best to give you guys some answers.
- 1:20:17So our Ask the Moms tonight is a a little more complicated than
- 1:20:20some of the questions that we've had recently.
- 1:20:23And the question is, does everyone in my travel party need
- 1:20:28their own login for the app? So we're just talking about the
- 1:20:31app. So let's see you know how we can
- 1:20:33help with this and can one person handle all of our
- 1:20:35reservations and booking for everyone and how does that work?
- 1:20:39Sounds like an excellent. Question for you today.
- 1:20:43Looking right up your alley. Oh my God.
- 1:20:50OK, so let's. Handle the first part of this.
- 1:20:53Does everyone in my travel party need their own login for the
- 1:20:56app? Short answer, no.
- 1:20:59But it really truly depends on your situation if you're all in
- 1:21:03the same family. For example, my immediate
- 1:21:07family, my husband, does not have his own login.
- 1:21:10He uses mine. He can do everything he needs to
- 1:21:12do. We can both do everything we
- 1:21:14need to do in the app. It will not interfere with each
- 1:21:17other if you are both in the app at the same time.
- 1:21:21So that's Section 1. So I'm like, oh, interesting,
- 1:21:27yeah, so the only thing that it would like interfere is like, it
- 1:21:30won't let you double book things.
- 1:21:32So like if you're both in there trying to get a virtual queue,
- 1:21:35whoever gets it first will get it.
- 1:21:37The other person's not going to get one.
- 1:21:38So like that's the only instance where like it interferes with
- 1:21:42itself. Kind of.
- 1:21:43But as far as anything else goes, the only other downside I
- 1:21:48could. See with that is, if you say you
- 1:21:51needed to try to make a dining reservation that overlapped with
- 1:21:54another one and you couldn't because you were already booked,
- 1:21:57you would need a separate e-mail address, a separate account to
- 1:22:00book that other one. I think that's the main reason
- 1:22:02that Elliott made his was because I needed a second
- 1:22:04account to book something that was overlapping at the time.
- 1:22:08I don't remember when, but yeah, probably that tends to be.
- 1:22:11That tends to be the reason and that's why I would say like if
- 1:22:14you on the other side, if you've got more than one family
- 1:22:19traveling together in a party, let's say you've got you know
- 1:22:22for example if I were to go with my extended family, it would be
- 1:22:25my parents, my sister and her family and then me and my
- 1:22:27family. So that would be 3 different
- 1:22:28families. I would suggest all three of
- 1:22:30them having a separate login just for instances like that.
- 1:22:33One. You're going to be able to book
- 1:22:36your you're going to need a login to be able to book your
- 1:22:38resort. If you're staying on property,
- 1:22:40you're not going to be able to. You probably could book
- 1:22:43everything through the one account, but it gets a little
- 1:22:46more complicated when you're going to like you can use your
- 1:22:49app to unlock your room and different things like that gets
- 1:22:52a little bit more complicated. And then dining reservations are
- 1:22:55the big one, because the the app will not let you book multiple
- 1:22:59dining reservations with conflicting times.
- 1:23:02So occasionally when you have bigger parties that you're
- 1:23:04traveling with, if you need to book for a party of 10, maybe
- 1:23:10you want to split it down to five and five to see if you can
- 1:23:12get reservations easier that way.
- 1:23:15And often times you can. We did like.
- 1:23:18Four and three or something. We had a really big party.
- 1:23:22Yeah, so you definitely need like Kate.
- 1:23:24Was mentioning you definitely need two accounts and two emails
- 1:23:27for that instance. So again, yes and no.
- 1:23:32So the second part of the question for asking moms was can
- 1:23:34one person handle all the reservations and booking for
- 1:23:36everyone? Again, yes and no.
- 1:23:38Kind of similar to what we just talked about.
- 1:23:40If you want one person to handle it all, then you're going to
- 1:23:43need to give them your login so they can manipulate whatever
- 1:23:46needs to be manipulated. That's what I'm really good at.
- 1:23:49That's what I often do. Is is doing I I do?
- 1:23:57Now I will. Also.
- 1:23:59Remind you that giving your login to someone needs to be
- 1:24:02someone that you trust, because there is information in there
- 1:24:05that you may or may not want someone to have access to if you
- 1:24:08don't know them. Again, if you're traveling with
- 1:24:10them, chances are good that that's fine and no issues there,
- 1:24:13but just can you control the like?
- 1:24:14Cancel your vacation. And stuff too.
- 1:24:16So you have to be very careful with anything you can do.
- 1:24:19Yeah. Yes, Kate trusts me, so.
- 1:24:24So just keep that in mind. And basically how that works is
- 1:24:28just the one thing that you really do want to make sure is
- 1:24:32that everybody is LinkedIn your party.
- 1:24:34And that is sometimes the biggest headache.
- 1:24:37And often times if I'm helping people do that, I I literally
- 1:24:40will just tell them like, I it's not that I don't trust you to do
- 1:24:43it, but just give me your login because it's way easier for me
- 1:24:46to just go in and do it because it's like 6 different steps.
- 1:24:50And Disney has recently added new steps to where you have to
- 1:24:54give individual people specific permission to view your all your
- 1:24:59reservations and your photo pass.
- 1:25:01And this that like there's so many options now, which is
- 1:25:05great. If you're someone that utilizes
- 1:25:07it a lot or has an annual pass and is linked to lots of
- 1:25:09different people, that's fine. But if you're just trying to
- 1:25:14link for your it's it's just a lot.
- 1:25:16Especially if you've got kids on multiple accounts because they
- 1:25:20don't have their own logins, you have to like go through four
- 1:25:23extra steps to add them. It's a lot.
- 1:25:25So just find someone that knows what they're doing to help you
- 1:25:30because trying to do it on your own is is a headache.
- 1:25:33And but I will also say if you don't get it done before you get
- 1:25:37to Disney, that's fine, Go to your front desk, go to your
- 1:25:40concierge. They will be able to help you do
- 1:25:42it at your front desk before you get into the parks, yeah.
- 1:25:47I will say at Disneyland it just works differently in terms of
- 1:25:50tickets and accounts and things. They're similar but not the
- 1:25:54same. So if you are going from 1 Park
- 1:25:57to the other, just know that it's going to be a little bit of
- 1:26:01a different ball game in some ways.
- 1:26:04Genie Plus works very similarly in most ways, but not all and
- 1:26:09but I think the biggest thing going park to park is I always
- 1:26:13forget to. Transfer my magic.
- 1:26:14Band the ticket out of my Magic band.
- 1:26:16I was like, I always have to unlink it and then link it to my
- 1:26:18other ticket because then I go to like, go to the park and
- 1:26:21they're like, but you don't have a ticket.
- 1:26:23I was like, wait a minute. Yeah, they do.
- 1:26:26Right. Or then it gets out of line.
- 1:26:28And. Fixes it.
- 1:26:29So yeah, so Disneyland has an extra step.
- 1:26:32In there so so just know that if you're.
- 1:26:35If you're going to Disneyland, it's a it's a slightly different
- 1:26:38than Disney World and so make sure you put that, yeah and in.
- 1:26:43Disneyland you. Really, truly only link someone
- 1:26:46by adding their ticket to your account.
- 1:26:49It's not kind of thing, yeah. It's not a friends and family.
- 1:26:53Situation, it's very different. So you literally just add their
- 1:26:57ticket and once their ticket has been added to your account then
- 1:27:00you're able to book for your party.
- 1:27:04And again, this is important for doing things like Genie Plus and
- 1:27:09you have to. Do that unless they're.
- 1:27:10Going to book there separately, which becomes a huge headache
- 1:27:13like don't do it, don't do it, don't do it, please don't do it.
- 1:27:16Moral of the story? Does everyone.
- 1:27:18Need their own login? Yes and no.
- 1:27:21Can one person handle all the reservations and booking?
- 1:27:25Yes and no. So it really just depends on
- 1:27:27your situation. Again, I will always encourage
- 1:27:30people. If you need help, please reach
- 1:27:32out. I had someone this week in
- 1:27:34Pocket Fam that was like hey, I know that you know what you're
- 1:27:36doing can you help me link with my family?
- 1:27:38And I was like yes I can. So reach out if you need help.
- 1:27:42I am more than happy Kate is more than happy if she's able to
- 1:27:44help you to link you and all that good stuff.
- 1:27:47It's it's a lot of steps If I'm. I'm not going to lie just
- 1:27:51because I I have no time to help anybody in.
- 1:27:56So I'll be like, here's Jackie's contact info, Kate.
- 1:27:59Don't ask Kate. Never mind.
- 1:28:01I take it back. She doesn't want to help you.
- 1:28:04No, I'm kidding. I'm totally kidding, I said.
- 1:28:06I can talk history, but I. Just don't.
- 1:28:08I just like, I can't. I'll be like, I don't know.
- 1:28:13Yes, and I do a lot in the app I.
- 1:28:15Help a lot of people with their their itineraries and Genie
- 1:28:18Plus. So it's like second nature to me
- 1:28:20and I have gotten fairly decent at explaining it, so yes, well.
- 1:28:27That's. Great.
- 1:28:28I think that pretty much wraps up this episode.
- 1:28:30Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:28:31So as always, thank. You to those of you who have

- 1:29:35didn't have a chance to answer. They do, like Kate said,
