Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: The Force will be with you always.
- 0:18Speaker 2: Hello and welcome back to another episode of Star Wars Alliance.
- 0:26Speaker 2: My connection is so much better than it was last time.
- 0:31Speaker 2: And of course I am here with Katie. Katie, how
- 0:35Speaker 2: you doing this week?
- 0:37Speaker 3: Is chaos.
- 0:40Speaker 2: Ie, We have a sick baby.
- 0:45Speaker 3: We lasted six weeks without her getting like sick sick. Oh.
- 0:52Speaker 3: I think that's a new record for us since she's
- 0:54Speaker 3: been in daycare at least, so hence my background being chaos.
- 0:59Speaker 3: I have her in the afternoons because Matt and I
- 1:02Speaker 3: both work from home, so like we're still trying to
- 1:04Speaker 3: work and everything. But I was too lazy to clean, so.
- 1:12Speaker 2: I totally get it. It's it's the one thing I
- 1:15Speaker 2: don't miss about Amberlin. Going to daycare was like every
- 1:20Speaker 2: other week was like a new thing. Yeah, but yeah,
- 1:25Speaker 2: totally understand. Guys, we are this close for everybody on YouTube.
- 1:31Speaker 2: You can see my fingers this close from not only
- 1:36Speaker 2: and or Season two, but Star Wars celebration as well.
- 1:41Speaker 2: I've already seen Adrian taking really peaceful and awesome walks
- 1:47Speaker 2: around Japan. I'm super jealous he is there. Of course,
- 1:52Speaker 2: he's already told us he's gonna give us the inside
- 1:54Speaker 2: scoops if anything, if anything pops up, we'll know about it,
- 1:59Speaker 2: hopefully before anybody else. But we also have a small
- 2:05Speaker 2: announcement in regards to and or season two. Guys, we
- 2:11Speaker 2: have been stressing out over this whole three episode drop.
- 2:17Speaker 2: Every single week we've.
- 2:19Speaker 3: Had, ya know what, We're here for fun, We're not
- 2:22Speaker 3: here for stress.
- 2:24Speaker 2: Yeah, no, Like I so, I I feel like I
- 2:27Speaker 2: threw out the perfect gift when uh, when Chris dropped
- 2:34Speaker 2: the video of Tony Gilory Gilory, I I I thank
- 2:40Speaker 2: you for thinking about us. By the way, even if
- 2:43Speaker 2: it was miniscule. He even said, like so somebody asked
- 2:48Speaker 2: him about the three episode drops. He's like, oh, you know,
- 2:51Speaker 2: it's it's great. It's like a movie every single week.
- 2:53Speaker 2: You know, still doing the whole spiel on how you
- 2:56Speaker 2: pitch a show or a movie, you know, his job,
- 2:59Speaker 2: which I totally understand. But then he immediately said, I
- 3:04Speaker 2: do feel bad for the podcasters though they are really part.
- 3:08Speaker 2: They are really big part of the medium in the
- 3:10Speaker 2: conversation nowadays, consuming that much at so little time, I
- 3:16Speaker 2: know it's gonna be very frustrating and it's gonna be
- 3:18Speaker 2: a lot. So instead of me and Katie killing ourselves
- 3:24Speaker 2: trying to consume these three episodes in a very very
- 3:28Speaker 2: short amount of time.
- 3:29Speaker 3: Y'all, because I watched Just a Daredevil for the first
- 3:32Speaker 3: time live yesterday and I have thoughts I may see
- 3:37Speaker 3: if Travis will let me do a patron since that's
- 3:39Speaker 3: how I got my start here is Daredevil. Oh but
- 3:45Speaker 3: I was and am still exhausted, and I was like,
- 3:49Speaker 3: I don't know how I'm going to do three episodes,
- 3:52Speaker 3: and then Joe reminds me, hey, just reschedule.
- 3:58Speaker 2: Yes, So Katie and I talked about it, with how
- 4:03Speaker 2: hectic our schedules are on a normal basis. Coincidentally, the
- 4:09Speaker 2: month of and Or is actually kind of chaotic for us,
- 4:14Speaker 2: just to you know, just coincidentally as well. So, guys,
- 4:18Speaker 2: instead of having our live episodes on Wednesdays, we are
- 4:26Speaker 2: now going to have our live episodes on Saturday. We're
- 4:32Speaker 2: gonna have our live episodes Saturday. The review for and
- 4:36Speaker 2: Or will be dropping on Sunday. But I believe Katie,
- 4:40Speaker 2: we have already discussed there will be normal episodes coming
- 4:45Speaker 2: out on.
- 4:46Speaker 3: The relatively speaking, relatively speaking, so like next week. So
- 4:52Speaker 3: for example, so on Thursday, now on April twenty fourth,
- 4:59Speaker 3: and instead of and OR episodes one through three review,
- 5:05Speaker 3: what you will instead get is our Star Wars celebration
- 5:09Speaker 3: rundown and then you will also be getting our Way
- 5:13Speaker 3: Secret review episode, which we are recording on Friday, so
- 5:19Speaker 3: that's what you can expect next week. So then on
- 5:22Speaker 3: the twenty seventh, you will get episodes one through three
- 5:27Speaker 3: of season two of and Or from us. So then
- 5:31Speaker 3: May first, there would not be a regular episode because
- 5:36Speaker 3: unfortunately we can't time these things right. But then like
- 5:40Speaker 3: May eighth or I'm sorry, so May fourth, you would
- 5:43Speaker 3: get and OR episodes four through six review, So no
- 5:49Speaker 3: episode on May first, episode May fourth, conveniently Star Wars Day,
- 5:57Speaker 3: May eighth you will get Tay of the Underworld review
- 6:02Speaker 3: because that comes out on what May four, So May eighth,
- 6:09Speaker 3: that is what you will get. May sixth is the
- 6:13Speaker 3: release of Way Secrets, so that our review will also
- 6:16Speaker 3: kind of be again promoted there. But May six is
- 6:20Speaker 3: also a Valued Vale release, so instead of that review
- 6:24Speaker 3: dropping on or, that review is going to drop May fifteenth,
- 6:31Speaker 3: so that you can still get a review there. And
- 6:35Speaker 3: I believe that takes us to the end because it's
- 6:37Speaker 3: the twenty second the twenty ninth, the sixth, So you
- 6:42Speaker 3: get regulars regularly scheduled Star Wars Alliance on three out
- 6:47Speaker 3: of the four weeks for and or the only one.
- 6:50Speaker 3: You will not get a Thursday episode of Star Wars
- 6:53Speaker 3: Alliance or will be being first. Does that makes sense?
- 6:58Speaker 2: Guys?
- 6:58Speaker 3: I know you can't talk back to me, but.
- 7:02Speaker 2: It also I just want to confirm. Also because again
- 7:08Speaker 2: this brain dump, I look at every other day and
- 7:11Speaker 2: I feel like the dates changed without knowing or maybe
- 7:18Speaker 2: And that's the thing, it's my brain playing tricks on
- 7:21Speaker 2: me the first time I look at it. What time
- 7:26Speaker 2: are we recording or what day are we recording way Seeker?
- 7:31Speaker 2: Because I am we are recording it Friday, yes, okay.
- 7:36Speaker 3: Because it's supposed to come out on or the embargo
- 7:40Speaker 3: for way Seekers the twenty first.
- 7:43Speaker 2: But see that's where I got it confused. I thought
- 7:47Speaker 2: we were doing our celebration and Wayseeker reviews at the
- 7:53Speaker 2: same time and then dropping it. No literally, yeah, yeah, yeah, okay, okay, okay.
- 8:01Speaker 2: So uh hey, by the way, I'm a little behind
- 8:04Speaker 2: on Wayseeker. Now I was ahead and now oh wait
- 8:08Speaker 2: I might still be ahead. What chapter are you on?
- 8:11Speaker 3: I'm on chapter thirteen.
- 8:14Speaker 2: Yes, okay, I can still finish before you. Okay, we're good,
- 8:17Speaker 2: We're good. We're good. Yeah, a little bit inside baseball there, guys.
- 8:24Speaker 2: But I think that is it for scheduling news now. Yes,
- 8:30Speaker 2: there has been some things going out there.
- 8:32Speaker 3: So sorry the scheduling news. So Saturdays at eight pm
- 8:39Speaker 3: Eustern Standard time is when we will be live for
- 8:42Speaker 3: our and or reviews. And I know it'll put us
- 8:46Speaker 3: behind the ball a little bit, guys, but you know what, sanity.
- 8:49Speaker 3: We're here for fun and sanity.
- 8:52Speaker 2: Yes, this is now every and even you guys. You
- 8:57Speaker 2: now don't have to try and kill yourselves yourself and
- 9:02Speaker 2: watch all three episodes by the next day to listen
- 9:06Speaker 2: to our review. Now you can take your time watching
- 9:10Speaker 2: one episode a day until Saturday, and you can join
- 9:15Speaker 2: us live and discuss each episode. It's gonna be very fun,
- 9:20Speaker 2: all right.
- 9:21Speaker 3: So hopefully to join us for news. It looks like
- 9:25Speaker 3: Ryan has Ryan, because if you're here on YouTube, the
- 9:29Speaker 3: title says featuring minock Manner. Ryan has been dealing with
- 9:34Speaker 3: technical issues, so we weren't sure if he was going
- 9:38Speaker 3: to be able to make it in here, but he's
- 9:40Speaker 3: joining for the main part of our show, as well
- 9:43Speaker 3: as like the news and stuff and Clay's final journey
- 9:48Speaker 3: with through on treason. Yeah, it's very curious to hear
- 9:52Speaker 3: your thoughts on this. By the way, Ryan should be
- 9:55Speaker 3: headed in shortly, he says.
- 9:57Speaker 2: Awesome, awesome, Oh here he is.
- 10:01Speaker 3: He says, he got audio. I should probably add him
- 10:05Speaker 3: to the stage. That's important. Hello, Ryan, can you hear us?
- 10:09Speaker 4: All right, y'all, we're gonna hit our first ad break
- 10:12Speaker 4: and we will be right back in three two one.
- 10:17Speaker 5: Yes, I can hear you. It's a little fuzzy on
- 10:20Speaker 5: my end, so I'm very sorry about that. Thank you
- 10:22Speaker 5: for your patience and everything very good.
- 10:25Speaker 3: We just finished talking about our and or schedule, because
- 10:28Speaker 3: three episodes is a lot to try and do in
- 10:32Speaker 3: twenty four hours. Oh so, Ryan, welcome to the show.
- 10:36Speaker 3: And know it's been a hot minute, but I'm so
- 10:39Speaker 3: glad you were able to join us.
- 10:42Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm really thankful that you just said reach out
- 10:45Speaker 5: and I'm super excited about being here today. So it
- 10:49Speaker 5: was a pleasure to be here. So thank you very much.
- 10:52Speaker 2: Yeah, awesome.
- 10:54Speaker 3: All right, So we are about to dive into news, guys.
- 10:58Speaker 3: So the news that we have today is we are
- 11:05Speaker 3: talking about Star Wars Zero Company, and then the legacy
- 11:11Speaker 3: character news that Tony Gilroy has revealed. Those are like
- 11:14Speaker 3: our two kind of main news points. But Clay Ryan,
- 11:18Speaker 3: I need you to explain to me. Would zero turn
- 11:22Speaker 3: or strategy game? I don't understand what this means basically.
- 11:28Speaker 2: So, uh, of course we had we had heard about this,
- 11:33Speaker 2: there being a possibility of a new game, a new
- 11:36Speaker 2: uh turn based tactical game. We had heard this was
- 11:40Speaker 2: going to be announced soon. Uh So that is no surprise.
- 11:43Speaker 2: The surprise is what the title is. Uh, Star Wars
- 11:48Speaker 2: Zero Company. I think looks very very interesting. If you
- 11:54Speaker 2: want to know more about this game, there are leaks
- 11:59Speaker 2: of the actual footage. You'll probably see more of it
- 12:02Speaker 2: at celebration anyway, so I think we will actually get
- 12:05Speaker 2: to see some footage, but there are some leaks out
- 12:09Speaker 2: there already. This is in the same vein as recently.
- 12:15Speaker 2: If anybody has played Marvel's Midnight Suns, it is a
- 12:22Speaker 2: turn based game as well. That one is really weird
- 12:26Speaker 2: because it's a turn base as well as a card game,
- 12:29Speaker 2: so it kind of does like this weird integration of
- 12:32Speaker 2: both types of systems, whereas this one from the leaks
- 12:37Speaker 2: that I have seen. It just looks like it's turn base.
- 12:41Speaker 2: It's very tactical. I think these can be fun. It
- 12:48Speaker 2: really just depends on your type of genre. Do you
- 12:51Speaker 2: want something that's fast paced button mashing, you know, kind
- 12:54Speaker 2: of beat them up type of game, whereas with these
- 12:58Speaker 2: type of games, it makes you think you get to
- 13:01Speaker 2: sit there for a little bit decide what your next
- 13:03Speaker 2: move is gonna be. It is like a big chess
- 13:07Speaker 2: game sometimes, and as I'm getting older, I really do
- 13:12Speaker 2: appreciate these types of games.
- 13:15Speaker 3: So how does that work in a video game style?
- 13:18Speaker 3: I'm sorry this is probably the lack of video game village,
- 13:22Speaker 3: but I'm like, I don't understand what is what is
- 13:27Speaker 3: turn based?
- 13:28Speaker 5: I guess I feel like, did you ever play the
- 13:32Speaker 5: Mass Effect series?
- 13:35Speaker 3: No? Okay, my big video game experience ryan is Mario
- 13:41Speaker 3: Kart and Lego Star Wars.
- 13:44Speaker 5: Great choices though, great choices based. I think I kinda
- 13:51Speaker 5: there's a game, so the Mass Effect games, it's kind
- 13:54Speaker 5: of like a mixture where it's the RPG of everything,
- 13:59Speaker 5: but you're in combat and you kind of have like
- 14:01Speaker 5: time to select who your attack game and like you know,
- 14:05Speaker 5: who gets to go, and like if the other team
- 14:07Speaker 5: go and everything. So Okay, yeah, it's not really my
- 14:14Speaker 5: style or my type of game, but I'm curious to
- 14:17Speaker 5: see gameplay for sure.
- 14:20Speaker 2: Yeah, Katie, I would recommend, like I said, in the
- 14:25Speaker 2: most recent titles that have come out within the last
- 14:29Speaker 2: like five years or so, I would look up gameplay
- 14:33Speaker 2: footage of Marvel's Midnight Suns and it sounds s U
- 14:38Speaker 2: N S.
- 14:40Speaker 3: I know the video game title because we've talked about
- 14:42Speaker 3: it than the g UA chat.
- 14:44Speaker 2: Yeah, it is. There are there's your team on one
- 14:51Speaker 2: side and the enemy team on the other. Depending on
- 14:56Speaker 2: the type of character that you have h their play
- 15:01Speaker 2: set determines how they can move and how they can attack,
- 15:06Speaker 2: how far they can attack, and everything else. This will
- 15:10Speaker 2: help you strategize and build your team when going into
- 15:16Speaker 2: certain levels of the game. There's many different types of
- 15:22Speaker 2: games like this. If you look into the genre of tactics,
- 15:28Speaker 2: there's Final Fantasy Tactics, there's uh oh, there's a game
- 15:33Speaker 2: like called I think it's called Valkyrie Chronicles Tactics a
- 15:39Speaker 2: lot of those games and it is based off of
- 15:42Speaker 2: like per unit square movement type of thing, just like
- 15:47Speaker 2: a chess game or a checkers game, and the same
- 15:52Speaker 2: thing is done in midnight sense from what the photos
- 15:56Speaker 2: I have seen here, there is that kind of move
- 16:00Speaker 2: I believe. And then when seeing the attacks, you kind
- 16:04Speaker 2: of are able to preview the radius of attacks, whether
- 16:10Speaker 2: that be with blasters, lightsabers, grenades, whatever. This game is
- 16:16Speaker 2: going to allow us to use. It's it'll be very interesting.
- 16:21Speaker 2: It might be your cup of tea. These games are
- 16:25Speaker 2: not like a hey, let's sit down for like a
- 16:29Speaker 2: quick fifteen to twenty minutes, go through a level and
- 16:32Speaker 2: then get out of it. It is going to be
- 16:34Speaker 2: something because it's tactical. It makes you think it may
- 16:40Speaker 2: be something that you have to block off like maybe
- 16:43Speaker 2: an hour for it and be like, Okay, you know,
- 16:46Speaker 2: I'm going to do this one level. Let's see how
- 16:49Speaker 2: quickly I can move through it. But how successful am
- 16:51Speaker 2: I going to be at that? You know type of thing? Yeah? So,
- 16:56Speaker 2: I uh, and it's usual. It usually wasn't my type
- 17:00Speaker 2: of game. I am very much the type of person
- 17:02Speaker 2: that used to be like the beat him up, the story,
- 17:05Speaker 2: the heavy story, really beautiful graphics type of games. Recently, though,
- 17:11Speaker 2: like I said, I have enjoyed more of the like cozy,
- 17:17Speaker 2: sit down and think type games. So I think this
- 17:21Speaker 2: one's gonna be a lot of fun.
- 17:23Speaker 3: Yeah, it's definitely interesting. I am disappointed with some of
- 17:28Speaker 3: the reactions to this game because a lot of people
- 17:31Speaker 3: are just going, like, based on the poster that we got,
- 17:35Speaker 3: which features looks like an foreign a member of plocoon species,
- 17:39Speaker 3: a couple of clones, a droid, and then a male
- 17:43Speaker 3: scoundrel looking character kind of looks like and Or On.
- 17:46Speaker 2: Yeah, that's what I thought it was at first too.
- 17:49Speaker 3: And I'll like, some people have been like, oh, yay, no,
- 17:53Speaker 3: like girl Boss character in this game, like, come on,
- 17:58Speaker 3: that's dumb. So oh yeah, interested to see gameplay footage.
- 18:04Speaker 3: I guess well, we'll see how goes.
- 18:07Speaker 2: The other bit of news.
- 18:09Speaker 3: We have to really talk about is so uh obviously
- 18:13Speaker 3: and Or is in its round of press, and I'm
- 18:15Speaker 3: interested to hear your take on this. Ryan so Tony
- 18:19Speaker 3: Gilroy has confirmed that there is a Star Wars legacy
- 18:23Speaker 3: character in season two that has actually been recast. So
- 18:28Speaker 3: we know we're going to Yavin, we know we're right
- 18:31Speaker 3: before Rogue one and a New Hope, So there is
- 18:35Speaker 3: a lot of potential for this legacy character, for who
- 18:40Speaker 3: this legacy character could be because you've got Bail or Ghana,
- 18:44Speaker 3: you have several generals and everything, and Star Wars has
- 18:49Speaker 3: recast people. Genevieve O'Reilly took over the Mond Mothball role
- 18:53Speaker 3: in the prequels and now into Rogue one, and and
- 18:56Speaker 3: or Jimmy Smitz has stuck around. But then like, there's
- 19:01Speaker 3: just other places where Star Wars has chosen mused Deep
- 19:04Speaker 3: fix I e Luke Skawalker, Tarkan Lea. So how do
- 19:12Speaker 3: you guys feel about the recast here? Obviously I think
- 19:14Speaker 3: most of us are in favor of this, but who
- 19:18Speaker 3: do you think this character could be?
- 19:22Speaker 5: Uh, I'm curious if it's I want it to be
- 19:26Speaker 5: Bail organic because I just want to see more of
- 19:28Speaker 5: him interacting with the rebellion. Obviously, I'd love Jimmy Smith's
- 19:33Speaker 5: to be there. He's just the role. But otherwise I
- 19:38Speaker 5: feel like it's probably gonna be like General Dodonna or
- 19:41Speaker 5: whatever I think his name is. I feel it might
- 19:43Speaker 5: not be as big as Bail, but I'm definitely cool
- 19:48Speaker 5: with any recasting, you know, whatever helps him get the
- 19:51Speaker 5: character in the show, get some part of the world,
- 19:54Speaker 5: even if it means they don't look the same. Yeah,
- 19:56Speaker 5: I don't need a digital face over it.
- 19:59Speaker 3: Yeah, it's actually if it is a minor character, not
- 20:03Speaker 3: like to say that like Bail's a minor character, but like,
- 20:08Speaker 3: do we like Wolf Laren, Like we didn't need like
- 20:12Speaker 3: an exact replica for what he looks like kind of thing,
- 20:15Speaker 3: so versus like Anakin Skywalker. Yeah, you want to get
- 20:19Speaker 3: a little closer Luke.
- 20:20Speaker 2: Yeah, And that was that's what I was saying before
- 20:23Speaker 2: we actually went live, is like, and I don't want
- 20:26Speaker 2: to sound insensitive, I said, as long as they're not
- 20:30Speaker 2: an important character, quote unquote, And it sucks that we've
- 20:38Speaker 2: kind of gotten to this point, but like, I feel
- 20:41Speaker 2: like the fans have really determined what important is. So
- 20:48Speaker 2: I guess we really won't know if it's a good
- 20:51Speaker 2: choice until we either see the backlash or the lack
- 20:57Speaker 2: thereof of this recap, because I could very much see
- 21:04Speaker 2: the timeline of seeing the recast and the majority of
- 21:10Speaker 2: people being like, wait, who was that supposed to be again,
- 21:16Speaker 2: and them not necessarily knowing that first cast mate. Which
- 21:19Speaker 2: doesn't mean that it's not important to the story of
- 21:22Speaker 2: Star Wars, but it's not a revolving character, you know, right.
- 21:29Speaker 3: Like my point with Jimmy is. Jimmy was recently in
- 21:33Speaker 3: Obi Wan, so I'd like to see him kind of
- 21:36Speaker 3: stick around because recently Bail Organa has been Jimmy Smiths,
- 21:41Speaker 3: so I would want to see that continuity there. And
- 21:45Speaker 3: I feel like Jimmy has should have known at this
- 21:50Speaker 3: point that he needs to be in and or season two.
- 21:53Speaker 3: But again, scheduling, we've had strikes, we've had COVID like,
- 21:58Speaker 3: scheduling just sometimes doesn't work out. So at the end
- 22:01Speaker 3: of the day, if he doesn't make it in and
- 22:03Speaker 3: they recast, I will be okay with it, even though
- 22:07Speaker 3: like it is, he's the face, like he's iconic.
- 22:11Speaker 2: Jeez, yeah, I agree with that.
- 22:14Speaker 4: Yeah, Yeah, we're gonna go into our second ad break
- 22:20Speaker 4: and we'll be right back.
- 22:22Speaker 2: Well, I think that we could very easily just skim
- 22:26Speaker 2: through it. But the entire thing today was that Mikey Madison,
- 22:34Speaker 2: currently most well known from Oh Shoot Wellnora Anora was
- 22:42Speaker 2: the most recent movie, was being eyed to start in
- 22:46Speaker 2: Sean Levy Star Wars film alongside Ryan gosm and then
- 22:51Speaker 2: literally what like an hour ago, I think we got
- 22:56Speaker 2: an actual update to this saying that Madison actually turned
- 23:02Speaker 2: down the role and The reason why I still wanted
- 23:06Speaker 2: to bring this up was this kind of gives us
- 23:09Speaker 2: a little sneak peek into what quote unquote type of
- 23:14Speaker 2: character or actress they are really looking for to start
- 23:20Speaker 2: alongside Ryan Gosling. I had told the Guchat that the
- 23:26Speaker 2: only thing I know about Honora is that it was
- 23:31Speaker 2: a very controversial movie. Apparently it's not something that I
- 23:35Speaker 2: have seen. But as far as her acting ability and
- 23:44Speaker 2: things like that, I don't have any prior experience to
- 23:48Speaker 2: any of Mikey Madison's filmography. So as far as I
- 23:54Speaker 2: can see that, I could literally see the type of
- 23:57Speaker 2: actress and be like, Okay, they're trying to look for
- 23:59Speaker 2: this type of character.
- 24:02Speaker 5: But yeah, that's a good point. I feel like if
- 24:06Speaker 5: they're trying to go for that big of a name
- 24:08Speaker 5: to go alongside of him, like even if she passes,
- 24:11Speaker 5: I feel like whoever they could consider next might be similar,
- 24:16Speaker 5: you know, like up and coming or you know, kind
- 24:20Speaker 5: of like the hot after actress to get so mm hmm.
- 24:26Speaker 3: Yeah, it'll be interesting to see because the only thing
- 24:29Speaker 3: I would know her from is Once upon a Time
- 24:33Speaker 3: in Hollywood, which.
- 24:35Speaker 2: I oh, okay, yeah, one movie.
- 24:41Speaker 3: Yeah, I didn't like, and I wouldn't be able to
- 24:44Speaker 3: tell you who she played because I also didn't like,
- 24:46Speaker 3: Once upon a time in.
- 24:47Speaker 5: Hollywood, she was the.
- 24:51Speaker 2: Girl that Brad Pitt threw the can of beans at.
- 24:55Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, I remember that moment. I can't put a
- 24:59Speaker 3: face to it, obviously have her face in front of me,
- 25:02Speaker 3: but it's like, I don't.
- 25:04Speaker 2: Know, and I'm pretty sure she ran into the pool
- 25:07Speaker 2: and got flamethrower. I think that was her.
- 25:10Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, yep, that's more familiar slap thrower. Yeah, you know, yeah,
- 25:18Speaker 3: it'll be interesting to see. I feel like they would
- 25:24Speaker 3: like a more prominent, younger gen Z name involved, just
- 25:30Speaker 3: to try and get.
- 25:31Speaker 2: Sidney Sweeney boom ah, dude.
- 25:33Speaker 3: I don't know if Sidney would even say, like consider it,
- 25:37Speaker 3: like Mikey may have considered it.
- 25:39Speaker 2: Well, because here's here's the thing. There are rumors that
- 25:43Speaker 2: Sidney Sweeney is going to start in a live action
- 25:48Speaker 2: Gundam movie, which is uh, yeah, I don't know if
- 25:55Speaker 2: you know what Gundaman. It is a anime huge mex
- 26:01Speaker 2: think of Pacific Rim, but the robots fight each other.
- 26:05Speaker 2: There's militaries that use Gundoms for like space battles and
- 26:14Speaker 2: all sorts of stuff. Yeah, but there's rumors of Sydney
- 26:18Speaker 2: being attached to that film in some capacity, and I'm like, hey,
- 26:22Speaker 2: if she could be in a Gundam movie, she can
- 26:25Speaker 2: very much be in a Star Wars movie.
- 26:28Speaker 3: Yeah I could. Yeah, that's very true, very true. All right,
- 26:36Speaker 3: So shall we delve into our main topic tonight? Boys?
- 26:41Speaker 2: I think so all right, y'all.
- 26:43Speaker 3: So I came up with this after seeing The Way Seekers.
- 26:47Speaker 3: Clay was so proud of me for coming up with
- 26:49Speaker 3: an original podcast. I feel it is not like original
- 26:53Speaker 3: but like non review or news topic based one. So
- 27:00Speaker 3: The Way Seekers did a lightsaber bracket in honor of
- 27:06Speaker 3: March Madness, So the inspiration comes from here. But I
- 27:10Speaker 3: figured we could have a high Republic character battle bracket.
- 27:18Speaker 3: So Clay has marked us up a very nice diagram
- 27:21Speaker 3: right here, bracket. Yeah, he did so good, and he's
- 27:28Speaker 3: got all the concept art down. Pat like, very impressed that, like,
- 27:37Speaker 3: you got all this done. But I am taking from
- 27:41Speaker 3: the character encyclopedia, which is does not have all of
- 27:43Speaker 3: the characters, but has most of the characters, and this
- 27:47Speaker 3: is what I used to kind of build my list.
- 27:51Speaker 3: But our job here today, guys, is This is gonna
- 27:55Speaker 3: be a two parter where Star Wars Alliance is gonna
- 27:59Speaker 3: go versus Minock Manner and we're gonna have a moderator
- 28:04Speaker 3: come in for a second battle or for the second
- 28:07Speaker 3: part of the episode where we actually go through the
- 28:09Speaker 3: bracket and come up with a winner for our High
- 28:14Speaker 3: Republic character like MVP. Basically, so the rules of the
- 28:22Speaker 3: game is, each team gets eight characters, and this episode
- 28:28Speaker 3: we're just drafting. Chris was not able to join us
- 28:31Speaker 3: for this one, but hopefully he will be able to
- 28:32Speaker 3: join us on the second part of this series. But
- 28:39Speaker 3: each team, Siria, I am not talking to you, sorry,
- 28:46Speaker 3: but each team gets eight characters, and basically after this
- 28:51Speaker 3: is just we're drafting our sides of the bracket, and
- 28:56Speaker 3: then we'll be able to go through and babeled basically
- 29:00Speaker 3: rank each of our teams and uh, then we'll kind
- 29:05Speaker 3: of do the matchups as everything goes kind of thing,
- 29:13Speaker 3: and yeah, that's kind of the theme. The moderator in
- 29:19Speaker 3: the next episode will basically decide who wins each battle,
- 29:23Speaker 3: those characters will move on. Everybody knows what a bracket is,
- 29:26Speaker 3: even if you don't like basketball, like I don't, I
- 29:32Speaker 3: don't know. I thought this was a cool idea and
- 29:35Speaker 3: it's thanks Ryan, but it's been done on Twitter like
- 29:40Speaker 3: people do, like the polls and everything kind of thing,
- 29:43Speaker 3: so definitely not like a true original idea, but I'm
- 29:49Speaker 3: excited to kind of see how this goes. So we
- 29:52Speaker 3: each brought twelve characters, so this is gonna take a second,
- 29:59Speaker 3: but we're based going to bring up a random number
- 30:02Speaker 3: or random coin flip to decide who goes first, because
- 30:07Speaker 3: we cannot have the same characters on each team.
- 30:12Speaker 2: So this is true.
- 30:14Speaker 3: Yes, we have a list of twenty four characters. Ryan,
- 30:18Speaker 3: do you have yours like in a way you could
- 30:21Speaker 3: send it to us so Clay can like present it.
- 30:25Speaker 5: Oh yeah, sure I will be able to do that.
- 30:29Speaker 2: Let's here, And.
- 30:36Speaker 3: I asked you if you had yours written down, and
- 30:38Speaker 3: I realized I don't have mine rand down. So all right, Clay,
- 30:46Speaker 3: you have six and I have six?
- 30:48Speaker 2: Okay, almost, so please.
- 30:55Speaker 3: Hold's gonna Clay's gonna edit this very nicely in podcast format.
- 31:00Speaker 3: But if you're here on YouTube, here's the.
- 31:02Speaker 4: Magic and we're about to jump into our third ad.
- 31:07Speaker 2: Y'all.
- 31:08Speaker 4: We promise we'll be right back.
- 31:09Speaker 3: We promise okay, So Claire, can you pull up a
- 31:16Speaker 3: coin flip ran We're gonna let you pick which one
- 31:19Speaker 3: which side of the coin you want, since you're the guest,
- 31:24Speaker 3: all right, I'm gonna go with.
- 31:27Speaker 2: Heads, all right, So random coin flip it is here
- 31:33Speaker 2: we go tail ever fails, all right, Clay.
- 31:48Speaker 3: Do you have your giant list or do you want
- 31:50Speaker 3: me to present the list? Uh?
- 31:57Speaker 2: Which list?
- 31:59Speaker 4: Like?
- 31:59Speaker 3: Basically so we can cross the names off as we pick.
- 32:03Speaker 3: Oh so, uh, how are you however way you want
- 32:08Speaker 3: to do this? You're you're the magic graphic person, so.
- 32:12Speaker 2: I can actually write it all down here and I
- 32:17Speaker 2: will write down who has who, But that is also
- 32:21Speaker 2: why I've made the graphics, so that way we can
- 32:24Speaker 2: do it one by one each time.
- 32:27Speaker 3: Yes, all right, so Clay, you pick first.
- 32:34Speaker 2: Okay, I'm going to pick, and he's already up here.
- 32:45Speaker 2: My boy wreathed silas.
- 32:49Speaker 5: Very nice, very nice.
- 32:51Speaker 2: He has been a little bit of a cornerstone of
- 32:55Speaker 2: my like love for the High Republic, and I think
- 33:02Speaker 2: my love for him grew exponentially even on this last book,
- 33:08Speaker 2: for sure, So I think he's good to have on
- 33:11Speaker 2: our team.
- 33:15Speaker 5: Not jealous whatsoever.
- 33:18Speaker 3: We all three had him on our list. Okay, guys, yes,
- 33:22Speaker 3: we all wanted him.
- 33:23Speaker 2: Yes, okay, so then we have Wreath and then minock
- 33:31Speaker 2: manor let's go ahead and have them ready. Okay, so
- 33:38Speaker 2: Katie no right, gets Picnics.
- 33:41Speaker 3: We're on the same team.
- 33:42Speaker 2: Oh that's right, that's right. Yeah. I was gonna have
- 33:45Speaker 2: you do the corn flip. But yeah, I guess that.
- 33:47Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I just figured we'd go down the list. Lake.
- 33:50Speaker 5: Yeah, okay, I'm gonna go with Keeve Trevis Kieve.
- 33:59Speaker 2: All right, man, do I have keiv here? Hold on?
- 34:02Speaker 2: Hold on?
- 34:03Speaker 5: Speaking of Cornerstone, definitely, her story to the comics has
- 34:07Speaker 5: been my like biggest focus. I feel like, so absolutely
- 34:13Speaker 5: there she is.
- 34:16Speaker 2: We'll go Keiev. Oh well, hold on, wrong spin it.
- 34:22Speaker 5: Waiting to see how she gets lost?
- 34:25Speaker 3: Yep, for sure, I'm presenting your screen.
- 34:28Speaker 5: I hope that's okay.
- 34:29Speaker 2: O Clay, Yay, you're fine. I thought I clicked it.
- 34:33Speaker 3: I'm sorry, Okay, you had to hit like share but
- 34:37Speaker 3: not present. All right. So I'm gonna pick the one
- 34:43Speaker 3: that I put on the list. I'm gonna pick the
- 34:45Speaker 3: Leveler because I think this is kind of like the nameless,
- 34:51Speaker 3: kind of like in general, but I feel like the
- 34:53Speaker 3: Leveler is like kind of the key character, especially after
- 34:57Speaker 3: what we got in Aedge of Balance Premonition, which Clay,
- 35:04Speaker 3: you still haven't read.
- 35:05Speaker 2: Right, Uh no, but I ordered it today, So.
- 35:11Speaker 5: Ryan, have you ready yet the Premonition one? Yeah, I
- 35:16Speaker 5: am actually in the middle of reading it today.
- 35:18Speaker 3: So okay, Sorry that was a big spoiler. I'm sorry.
- 35:22Speaker 3: I told Clay kind of that already. But yes, I'm
- 35:25Speaker 3: picking the Leveler as our next member.
- 35:32Speaker 5: I really liked that idea because, yeah, I think they've
- 35:35Speaker 5: been misunderstood, so it'll be interesting see how this all
- 35:40Speaker 5: wraps up.
- 35:41Speaker 3: Mm hmmm.
- 35:43Speaker 2: Let's see here. Let me grab that character here and
- 35:55Speaker 2: then have him right there. All right, now, is it
- 36:05Speaker 2: my turn or no? I guess it would be Ryan's
- 36:09Speaker 2: turn again?
- 36:10Speaker 6: Yeah, okay, yeah, I'm gonna have to go with Solandra showhow.
- 36:29Speaker 5: My shield?
- 36:31Speaker 3: Yes, were you so happy that Brief got her shield?
- 36:38Speaker 3: We were ecstatic?
- 36:40Speaker 5: Yeah. I feel like if anyone who deserved it fit
- 36:44Speaker 5: the bill.
- 36:46Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I thought that was really really cool, Ruper
- 36:50Speaker 2: would have.
- 36:51Speaker 5: Proved as well. Yep.
- 36:53Speaker 2: M hmm.
- 36:55Speaker 5: Now I just need to see it show up, you know,
- 36:59Speaker 5: someone else it you know, like Ray picks it up.
- 37:01Speaker 5: You know, I need to see it come back a lot.
- 37:03Speaker 2: I really hope, I like, I genuinely hope that we
- 37:09Speaker 2: don't just leave these really cool moments of the High
- 37:14Speaker 2: Republic just to kind of just die off. I really
- 37:16Speaker 2: hope that Lucasfilm decides to throw in some easter eggs
- 37:23Speaker 2: with this next hopefully trilogy of movies. Yep, all right,
- 37:30Speaker 2: so I guess it would be my turn now.
- 37:33Speaker 3: Yep.
- 37:34Speaker 2: I'm gonna go ahead and choose my boy. See now,
- 37:48Speaker 2: mm hmm. You know what it started. It started it
- 37:57Speaker 2: all with him, and I think we need him. It's
- 38:02Speaker 2: gonna be Loaden, great Storm. I feel like Loaden definitely needed.
- 38:14Speaker 2: And I actually just realize that I am not presenting
- 38:18Speaker 2: the correct page because nothing was moving there we go.
- 38:25Speaker 3: Yeah, so, Clay, I hate to bring it to you.
- 38:29Speaker 3: Loaden is not on your list that you sent shot.
- 38:33Speaker 2: Did I not put him some gun? Okay? Okay? Sorry,
- 38:37Speaker 2: Well in that case, I can't get him. What I
- 38:40Speaker 2: will do is choose my other one then, the one
- 38:45Speaker 2: that I was intentionally gonna do until I changed my
- 38:47Speaker 2: last second to try to get grey Storm. I'm gonna
- 38:50Speaker 2: get Porter Ingle Portal. Portal. Porter has been a really
- 38:58Speaker 2: cool addition to the High Republic from Charles Saul. But
- 39:04Speaker 2: I think I I have like really started to love
- 39:08Speaker 2: him even more throughout this, Like, and people can argue
- 39:14Speaker 2: and say that it's not a vengeful hunt, but the
- 39:22Speaker 2: way that Porter is is hunting down this Nihill general basically,
- 39:30Speaker 2: I absolutely love it. Like it's it's it's it's something
- 39:33Speaker 2: that we're probably not supposed to love. But the way
- 39:37Speaker 2: that he just is not stopping, I think is really
- 39:42Speaker 2: really fun and really cool. It's an aspect of the
- 39:45Speaker 2: Jedi that we haven't really seen. So I I really
- 39:50Speaker 2: enjoyed his story so far.
- 39:52Speaker 5: No, Yeah, I'm curious when we're gonna get that broken blade.
- 39:59Speaker 2: I know.
- 40:01Speaker 3: I think Charles had said he had had more discussions
- 40:05Speaker 3: about it, but at this point, I'm like, Okay, so
- 40:10Speaker 3: this is not his story is not ending. There's no
- 40:14Speaker 3: way it's ending in Charles Jedi. Wow.
- 40:20Speaker 5: Yeah, I like that idea. You know that they've been
- 40:22Speaker 5: slowly kind of teasing lately. It's just we're ending this
- 40:25Speaker 5: current part of the High Republic, and this is the
- 40:28Speaker 5: end of this part of it. So promising.
- 40:34Speaker 3: Yeah, for sure. All right, Ryan, pick number three.
- 40:46Speaker 5: Gonna go with Marta Rowe on this one.
- 40:49Speaker 4: Nice and this should be our final ad break, So
- 40:55Speaker 4: y'all thanks for bearing with us.
- 40:56Speaker 3: We appreciate y'all. We'll be right back.
- 41:00Speaker 5: I think I would love to see so much more
- 41:02Speaker 5: of her transition from you know, the Path of Vengeance
- 41:09Speaker 5: to how she was in the short story yeah, oh
- 41:15Speaker 5: my gosh, to claw and.
- 41:19Speaker 2: That I forget the name of.
- 41:21Speaker 5: Herd story there, but that was just such an eye
- 41:23Speaker 5: opening story about the Everini and artist. That's just exciting stuff.
- 41:30Speaker 3: Getting more about the Everini would be important, I think,
- 41:36Speaker 3: especially to just expand on the legacy of the Higher
- 41:39Speaker 3: Republic that we've gotten so far. So for my next pick,
- 41:47Speaker 3: I'm gonna go with ty York And I know she
- 41:49Speaker 3: wasn't on my list, but she was on my next six.
- 41:55Speaker 3: I just think she's a super special character. I know
- 41:58Speaker 3: she's not like su for present in the main line story,
- 42:03Speaker 3: but I just love her characters so much and seeing
- 42:06Speaker 3: her grow over the comics from Cavin, Scott and Rachel.
- 42:14Speaker 3: I can't remember her last day, but the artwork, especially
- 42:16Speaker 3: in the last one Scott stop, Yes, thank you, fantastic
- 42:21Speaker 3: stuff and I can't wait to see more in Trials.
- 42:25Speaker 3: Of the Jedi.
- 42:31Speaker 2: Rying your next up again?
- 42:34Speaker 5: Okay, yeah, t I might have been my next pick,
- 42:37Speaker 5: so that was a good choice. I don't feel like
- 42:41Speaker 5: I've done a lot of Phase two already. Let's see,
- 42:48Speaker 5: I'm gonna have to go with well, it kind of
- 42:52Speaker 5: works out. Looks like she's next Lula Talisola.
- 42:58Speaker 2: Nice.
- 43:00Speaker 3: We do love Lula.
- 43:03Speaker 5: It's been I I felt like pretty well, you know,
- 43:07Speaker 5: in between Phase one and three.
- 43:11Speaker 3: Mm hmm. Yeah, I'm behind on the Higher Republic Adventures
- 43:18Speaker 3: because I just wait for the Trades to come out.
- 43:20Speaker 3: But I can't wait for like the next part of
- 43:22Speaker 3: the story because like the next like three volumes are
- 43:24Speaker 3: coming out so close together.
- 43:26Speaker 5: Oh okay, because it's.
- 43:32Speaker 3: Oh gosh, I have I have the release dates on
- 43:33Speaker 3: my brain, dumb for him right here. Okay, so.
- 43:40Speaker 5: Wait where do it go?
- 43:42Speaker 3: Crash Though comes out the twenty ninth, Echos of Fear
- 43:46Speaker 3: comes out the twenty second jeez. So then I'm excited
- 43:52Speaker 3: for Echoes of Fear, especially because I feel like I
- 43:55Speaker 3: missed something within the Light. And then Volume three for
- 44:01Speaker 3: Higher Republic Adventures doesn't come out actually until the end
- 44:04Speaker 3: of May. But yeah, I'm excited. Basically, I feel.
- 44:13Speaker 5: Like, uh, I don't know. Having read Echoes of Fear
- 44:17Speaker 5: and then Into the Light, they did a pretty good
- 44:21Speaker 5: job of not giving too many specifics that happened there,
- 44:24Speaker 5: so it's like you almost didn't need it. Okay, it
- 44:28Speaker 5: is still helpful, mm hmm, all right.
- 44:34Speaker 3: Oh, by the way, guys, the end of the Light
- 44:36Speaker 3: audiobook did actually drop yesterday, so if you were laiting
- 44:40Speaker 3: on that, it is out in the wild.
- 44:42Speaker 5: Oh it did.
- 44:43Speaker 2: Okay, yes, because that was how.
- 44:47Speaker 3: It was putting on breading it the second time after
- 44:50Speaker 3: I got Echoes of Fear read.
- 44:52Speaker 2: So I guess it's my turn now. You know, we
- 45:04Speaker 2: had the entire fandom rallying around this character, even though
- 45:11Speaker 2: I feel like there wasn't much talk of him before
- 45:15Speaker 2: it actually happened. I'm going with the boy Buryoga.
- 45:22Speaker 3: I'm not surprised Buryoga.
- 45:25Speaker 2: Has been such a interesting character now that he's really
- 45:31Speaker 2: getting like the Limelight, like I said, and like even
- 45:37Speaker 2: Katie had said it at one point early on in
- 45:39Speaker 2: our reviews of The High Republic that before the Fall
- 45:44Speaker 2: of Starlight Beacon Bury was more of like the child's
- 45:50Speaker 2: like Spotlight character, like the like the Toddler books type
- 45:54Speaker 2: of Spotlight character. And then like as soon as he
- 45:59Speaker 2: basically said sacrifice himself at the Fall of Starlight Beacon
- 46:04Speaker 2: Lucas film, and and like everybody in the High Republic,
- 46:09Speaker 2: you know, was just like, hey, he's upgraded to adults.
- 46:13Speaker 2: Let's just completely turn his character around. And I and
- 46:19Speaker 2: I really love how much of an impath he is.
- 46:22Speaker 2: And for somebody who you literally can't understand him unless
- 46:30Speaker 2: you know of course uh tree loook, it's I think
- 46:35Speaker 2: it's so cool that we are getting so much from him,
- 46:42Speaker 2: Like even like the moments where he got like for
- 46:46Speaker 2: like a split second he got the the communicator or
- 46:51Speaker 2: whatever the translator and like was yelling at people and
- 46:54Speaker 2: then like they kind of just like got done with
- 46:57Speaker 2: it or whatever. He's like, you know, forget this. But yeah,
- 47:00Speaker 2: I've absolutely fallen in love with Burriago.
- 47:10Speaker 5: Yeah. I really liked how much the Hikh into the
- 47:15Speaker 5: Light there was and wish there's more Burry in there.
- 47:20Speaker 5: But yeah, I think he's gonna be more trials, you know,
- 47:23Speaker 5: where he's really gonna be.
- 47:25Speaker 7: Yeah, right, I think this is your fifth pick now, Yeah, I'm.
- 47:40Speaker 5: Gonna have to m gonna go with geodeh.
- 47:49Speaker 3: That was my next pick. I was gonna steal him.
- 47:55Speaker 2: And I don't know why. He is actually one of
- 47:57Speaker 2: the only characters I forgot to upload a picture of
- 48:00Speaker 2: person he grab him.
- 48:03Speaker 5: Yes, I feel like it's real quick and uh.
- 48:12Speaker 2: Now, I have a friend recently who just got done
- 48:17Speaker 2: with uh with phase one of the High Republic. He's
- 48:22Speaker 2: just now starting phase two and he was very confused
- 48:28Speaker 2: when Geode was first introduced, and I was like, dude,
- 48:33Speaker 2: trust me, Like, once you get to like midway through
- 48:38Speaker 2: the Falling Star, you're gonna absolutely love how much of
- 48:44Speaker 2: a boss Geode is. And again no no spoilers four
- 48:53Speaker 2: into the Light, but Geode is very much a highlight
- 48:58Speaker 2: of that novel as well.
- 49:00Speaker 3: Yes, absolutely, yeah, all right, So for my next pick,
- 49:09Speaker 3: I'm gonna go with Sad Elegant, the star of the
- 49:15Speaker 3: High Republic Adventures uh for phase two. I just loved
- 49:21Speaker 3: her growth. There is a character, and seeing where she's
- 49:24Speaker 3: at phase one and phase three, I thought that was
- 49:27Speaker 3: a really cool way to continue to tie in important
- 49:35Speaker 3: like important characters over the over the different timespans.
- 49:42Speaker 4: So h yeah, and this should be our final ad break.
- 49:47Speaker 4: So y'all, thanks for bearing with us. We appreciate y'all.
- 49:50Speaker 4: We'll be right back.
- 49:52Speaker 2: Right your next book. Oh sorry, yeah, go ahead.
- 49:55Speaker 5: No, I was just gonna say I love the way
- 49:56Speaker 5: that her journey, you know, it's definitely a lot of
- 49:58Speaker 5: fans found, uh, you know, allow themselves and her journey
- 50:03Speaker 5: and that that phase, which is pretty cool to see.
- 50:07Speaker 5: I like how the old Daniel Alter has been been
- 50:11Speaker 5: doing that in all of his stories.
- 50:12Speaker 2: So yeah, yeah, I really love the almost complete one
- 50:18Speaker 2: eighty of her character when you see her as an
- 50:21Speaker 2: adult compared to a much younger individual. Yeah, I really
- 50:25Speaker 2: do like that.
- 50:29Speaker 5: For my next pick, I'm going to go with Aslin rel.
- 50:35Speaker 2: Okay, So I chose to put as in rel from
- 50:41Speaker 2: phase two in this draft, but do you want but
- 50:49Speaker 2: do you want as Lin from like phase three?
- 50:57Speaker 5: It's kind of more where he came into, like where
- 51:00Speaker 5: it really fell for him. But and the Crazy's journey
- 51:04Speaker 5: has been on. I mean, either one won't work.
- 51:09Speaker 2: Debate, I guess. So, I guess it would really depend
- 51:13Speaker 2: on how you debate that character. I really love how
- 51:21Speaker 2: and and even me and Katie said this in a
- 51:23Speaker 2: most recent review. Asen was literally introduced in the Path
- 51:29Speaker 2: of Deceit on the very first chapter and the last
- 51:34Speaker 2: two pages of that book, like, you don't see anything
- 51:39Speaker 2: from him in phase two all that much, and then
- 51:44Speaker 2: you get hit with this giant bomb the next time
- 51:48Speaker 2: you see him, and he has completely transformed into this
- 51:54Speaker 2: hellscape of a character.
- 51:56Speaker 3: Did you ever read precedent?
- 52:00Speaker 2: Yes? Any balance, I think I have it.
- 52:07Speaker 3: We're gonna have to figure that out, because it's important
- 52:09Speaker 3: to read that before premonition.
- 52:13Speaker 2: I'm pretty sure I have it. Okay.
- 52:17Speaker 3: I think I've asked you this question five times and
- 52:19Speaker 3: you can be a different answer every time. So anyways, sorry.
- 52:28Speaker 2: Oh you know what? How about this? How about this?
- 52:32Speaker 2: It has yet to be seen in the actual novel
- 52:36Speaker 2: or in the comics, but I'll give you Asen's new
- 52:39Speaker 2: look ooh the art all right, all right, that'll be interesting. Yes,
- 52:51Speaker 2: all right, So my next pick, oh okay, okay, okay.
- 53:00Speaker 2: I really cared for this character a little more than
- 53:04Speaker 2: I thought I ever would, and I'm really kind of
- 53:14Speaker 2: upset with how it ended for this character in Phase two.
- 53:21Speaker 2: I'm gonna be choosing Yanna row Of out of all
- 53:30Speaker 2: of the heartbreak stories that we've seen in Phase two,
- 53:38Speaker 2: I think Yanna's was just horrifying from somebody who became
- 53:44Speaker 2: so confident to somebody who was completely lost and didn't
- 53:51Speaker 2: know what the hell was going on. Was actually really
- 53:56Speaker 2: freaking terrifying to see, so like, I gosh, I almost
- 54:06Speaker 2: feel like going back to those to that trilogy just
- 54:10Speaker 2: to see his story again, but like seeing her relationship
- 54:18Speaker 2: completely dissolve into nothing and then like, uh oh, what
- 54:23Speaker 2: was his name? Her her girlfriend's father, who was like
- 54:28Speaker 2: the second and the second like the was it the
- 54:35Speaker 2: Commissioner or some sort of like tight it was like
- 54:38Speaker 2: some sort of title like that, but he was like
- 54:43Speaker 2: worth or was it the herald o Harold Harold yeah,
- 54:49Speaker 2: the herald yeah, like and and like her kind of
- 54:54Speaker 2: like telling him everything and like he was trying to
- 54:58Speaker 2: like start to be on the Vince and stuff. Like
- 55:01Speaker 2: everything literally crashed down, and I feel like Yanna was
- 55:06Speaker 2: kind of unfortunately just placed in the center of it
- 55:09Speaker 2: when she didn't really need to be. And and I
- 55:16Speaker 2: in a weird way loved her for that. It is
- 55:18Speaker 2: just like somebody who I could lash onto that wasn't
- 55:22Speaker 2: completely just lost in the chaos, but kind of was.
- 55:25Speaker 2: At the same time.
- 55:32Speaker 5: You already got a very good argument there, Okay, so
- 55:41Speaker 5: I gotta pick next.
- 55:43Speaker 3: Yep, you got pick seven.
- 55:48Speaker 5: I'm gonna go for Avon Starros nice, very nice. I
- 56:00Speaker 5: something about her just from was a test of courage
- 56:04Speaker 5: the first just from day one, it's just been so
- 56:07Speaker 5: interesting to me because I know it's all about the
- 56:09Speaker 5: Jedi for the era, but I really wanted to see
- 56:12Speaker 5: more normal citizens and her story and what she's been
- 56:17Speaker 5: doing with crystals and just her brain has just been
- 56:20Speaker 5: investing her mom. Her and her mom for sure are
- 56:23Speaker 5: also quite the story.
- 56:26Speaker 3: Oh yeah, I love that mother daughter relationship. That's like
- 56:30Speaker 3: because I always felt like I had that with my mom,
- 56:32Speaker 3: and I've only recently started to like build up that
- 56:34Speaker 3: relationship back up to like a good level where we're
- 56:39Speaker 3: like on the same page and stuff. So I definitely
- 56:43Speaker 3: really relate to her story. There very good character from
- 56:47Speaker 3: Justina and the development from all the other authors involved, obviously,
- 56:52Speaker 3: because like we say, like, oh, these characters belong to
- 56:55Speaker 3: their creator obviously, but still all these authors in the
- 56:58Speaker 3: initiative have developed up everybody along the way, all right.
- 57:04Speaker 3: For pick eight of the Star Wars Lions Team final pick,
- 57:08Speaker 3: I am going up, uh for the hero of Hetzel herself.
- 57:15Speaker 3: I know this may seem cliche, but I believe Avar
- 57:19Speaker 3: has been on an incredible journey. Pride comes before a fall,
- 57:25Speaker 3: you know, and I really enjoy how she found herself
- 57:31Speaker 3: from Falling Star to Shadows of Starlight. I think Charles
- 57:33Speaker 3: Hold did an incredible job there, and I can't wait
- 57:38Speaker 3: to see how it all leans in trials, like, oh
- 57:41Speaker 3: my gosh, it's coming, It's coming, y'all.
- 57:48Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm really glad. How you know she was you know,
- 57:51Speaker 5: no really point of view phase one and now she's
- 57:55Speaker 5: been such so well used now that she has been character.
- 58:02Speaker 2: Very much so. But right, I think this is your last.
- 58:09Speaker 5: Pick guy with the Boy of Chaos, you know. I
- 58:15Speaker 5: feel like probably a controversial pick is Axel gray Lard.
- 58:22Speaker 2: Yes, he I I really wanted to have him on
- 58:28Speaker 2: my list, but I was like, I don't know, Like, well,
- 58:33Speaker 2: I think it came down to either having Axel or Yanna,
- 58:36Speaker 2: and I felt more so inclined to get Yana than
- 58:39Speaker 2: I did Axel.
- 58:40Speaker 5: Makes sense, Yeah, yeah, I think I technically put together
- 58:43Speaker 5: like twenty four characters, and then I bought with myself
- 58:46Speaker 5: for like twenty minutes to figure out who is the
- 58:48Speaker 5: final twelve. So yeah, and then Chris helps, and then.
- 58:55Speaker 2: I do want to give ourselves a pat on the
- 58:59Speaker 2: back for not every single one of us grabbing just Jedi.
- 59:06Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 59:08Speaker 2: I feel like that's a very simple thing to do.
- 59:12Speaker 2: But for us to pick characters that are also, of course,
- 59:15Speaker 2: the quote unquote civilians of these stories, I think really
- 59:21Speaker 2: attest to how great the storytelling is for each of
- 59:25Speaker 2: these characters.
- 59:26Speaker 3: Absolutely like, well done, Team Higher Public. Yes, Ryan's device
- 59:36Speaker 3: says not connected. Uh oh, they will need to connect
- 59:40Speaker 3: to their mic slash camp before you can add them
- 59:42Speaker 3: to the stream. Right, your microphone died. I don't know
- 59:47Speaker 3: if you could hear us.
- 59:50Speaker 2: I think you might need to let him know that
- 59:52Speaker 2: in the.
- 59:54Speaker 3: He says he can hear us in the private jet.
- 59:57Speaker 2: Oh that's funny. Well, it might be the best time
- 1:00:05Speaker 2: for his mic to go off. I'm not entirely sure
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: Ran if you were going to join us for the
- 1:00:13Speaker 2: throng treason conversation. But before we jump into that, I
- 1:00:20Speaker 2: just want to say that this is it. We have
- 1:00:24Speaker 2: our bracket. I will clean this up. This was mainly
- 1:00:30Speaker 2: just to have an actual visual for you guys here
- 1:00:33Speaker 2: on YouTube. I will clean this up, make it look
- 1:00:37Speaker 2: a little bit nicer once we actually have our debate.
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: But I will go ahead and name everybody that the
- 1:00:50Speaker 2: each team currently has.
- 1:00:52Speaker 3: It looks like he got connected back.
- 1:00:54Speaker 2: Okay, there we go.
- 1:00:57Speaker 5: Can you hear me?
- 1:00:58Speaker 2: Okay, we can't.
- 1:01:03Speaker 3: Gotta love technical difficulties, y'all. Technology it's a blast.
- 1:01:07Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:01:08Speaker 5: I think I will probably step up just because of
- 1:01:10Speaker 5: the tough technical difficulties.
- 1:01:12Speaker 2: I don't know how, you know.
- 1:01:13Speaker 5: I don't want to keep everyone waiting for me to
- 1:01:16Speaker 5: randomly unmute myself again, so.
- 1:01:20Speaker 3: No worries. Ryan, tell us where they can find you
- 1:01:24Speaker 3: on all the places.
- 1:01:25Speaker 5: So on Instagram, it's going to be Mick Manner. On
- 1:01:31Speaker 5: Blue Sky it's minock Manner. I don't really use Twitter
- 1:01:35Speaker 5: anymore otherwise, just Minckmann dot com.
- 1:01:39Speaker 3: Yes, and y'all, I love Ryan's reviews. He does an
- 1:01:42Speaker 3: incredible job. Chris does an incredible job as well with
- 1:01:46Speaker 3: all the reviews. Guys, that is the place to go
- 1:01:49Speaker 3: find written Star Wars reviews. So, Ryan, thank you so
- 1:01:54Speaker 3: much for joining us, and we'll figure out when part
- 1:01:57Speaker 3: two is happening.
- 1:01:59Speaker 5: Yeah time, and yes, I can't wait. Thank you again
- 1:02:03Speaker 5: for letting me be part of this. I'm super stoked
- 1:02:06Speaker 5: are you writing notes? You two are the real geniuses
- 1:02:11Speaker 5: with the verbal words, and so I'm gonna have a
- 1:02:14Speaker 5: lot of tougher time and I can't wait.
- 1:02:18Speaker 3: Look forward, we'll have a script as well, don't worry.
- 1:02:21Speaker 3: So all right, I have a good night, Ryan.
- 1:02:25Speaker 5: All right, thank you guys too.
- 1:02:27Speaker 4: And this should be our final ad break. So y'all
- 1:02:31Speaker 4: thanks for bearing with us. We appreciate y'all. We'll be
- 1:02:33Speaker 4: right back.
- 1:02:36Speaker 2: With that being said, I can exit out of all
- 1:02:41Speaker 2: of this and make my computer run a little bit smoother.
- 1:02:46Speaker 3: How hot is it in your bedroom right now?
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: Uh? Way too damn hot? Well, because, for one, I
- 1:02:56Speaker 2: usually write before we start recording, I go over here
- 1:02:59Speaker 2: and turn on on the AC unit. I totally forgot
- 1:03:02Speaker 2: to do that today. So it's actually kind of humid
- 1:03:06Speaker 2: in here right now. But I'll be totally fine. So, guys,
- 1:03:12Speaker 2: if you are unaware, of course, Katie has talked me
- 1:03:19Speaker 2: into Oh, by the way, before I even go on
- 1:03:23Speaker 2: to this conversation, let me actually see if I can
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: bring this up. Oh, I can, because I actually put
- 1:03:32Speaker 2: it in our Star Wars Alliance chat. Haitie. I have
- 1:03:40Speaker 2: not even asked you have you met this man before
- 1:03:45Speaker 2: at all? As somebody who has read his books. Oh,
- 1:03:52Speaker 2: prior to me, No, I have not. For some reason,
- 1:03:59Speaker 2: I didn't know this and like, so when you and
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: Taylor were both like, I'm so jealous, I'm like, you've
- 1:04:06Speaker 2: done this before, but I totally forgot you just ordered
- 1:04:10Speaker 2: the book sign.
- 1:04:11Speaker 3: Yeah, so his local bookstore, because Clay has still not
- 1:04:16Speaker 3: presented this photo.
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: Guys.
- 1:04:17Speaker 3: He has a photo getting his paperback through on Books
- 1:04:23Speaker 3: sirened by the woman only Timothy's on himself, which I'm
- 1:04:28Speaker 3: so jealous about. But he has a local bookstore. I
- 1:04:32Speaker 3: believe it's Winter River Books. I know it's Winter or something,
- 1:04:39Speaker 3: but I'm looking it up for you guys right now.
- 1:04:41Speaker 3: But that is where I have ordered my signed books
- 1:04:46Speaker 3: from him. Is that bookstore, which is his local bookstore.
- 1:04:50Speaker 3: He goes in and signs decently regularly.
- 1:04:54Speaker 5: You used to.
- 1:04:57Speaker 3: Have to yes, Winter, I actually had it right wait,
- 1:05:00Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, Winter River Books. But uh, I got
- 1:05:06Speaker 3: my last book signed by him right before he started
- 1:05:12Speaker 3: asking for money because he's getting up there in age
- 1:05:16Speaker 3: and uh, he like, people just can't sign like they
- 1:05:20Speaker 3: used to, guys. So yeah, I'm very jealous Clay. Clay
- 1:05:26Speaker 3: had to step away for a second, but he got
- 1:05:28Speaker 3: to meet him at C two E two and get
- 1:05:31Speaker 3: all of his books signed, which is epic. I hope
- 1:05:35Speaker 3: you told him mar Jade is awesome.
- 1:05:39Speaker 2: I well, the reason why I wanted to bring this
- 1:05:41Speaker 2: story up. I literally told him so so so, guys,
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: I don't for anybody who doesn't know, my second story
- 1:05:59Speaker 2: with the introduction of Legends was Air to the Empire.
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: The first story I ever read in Legends was the
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: Bane Trilogy. The second was Air to the Empire, the
- 1:06:13Speaker 2: first throng story. And I told him this, and I said,
- 1:06:20Speaker 2: Timothy's on, I love your writing. And this was told
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: to me by somebody referring to Katie that the Air
- 1:06:32Speaker 2: to the Empire trilogy was written in the perspective of
- 1:06:36Speaker 2: the rebels. Oh did you tell him this? And I
- 1:06:40Speaker 2: told him I hated Thron reading that story. And I
- 1:06:49Speaker 2: told him I did not like Thron being twenty billion
- 1:06:57Speaker 2: steps ahead of everybody. And he kind of just looked
- 1:07:00Speaker 2: at me, and I said, but this trilogy right here
- 1:07:05Speaker 2: that I finished and literally less than a month, all
- 1:07:10Speaker 2: three books. I told him, I have a new found
- 1:07:16Speaker 2: love for Thron. I didn't tell him. I didn't tell
- 1:07:20Speaker 2: him that. I feel like it almost sickens me that
- 1:07:22Speaker 2: I have this new found love for Thron, But I
- 1:07:27Speaker 2: did tell him. I did tell him that story, and
- 1:07:31Speaker 2: he went on to tell me like, oh, it's because
- 1:07:35Speaker 2: of how he thinks of his people first, but he's
- 1:07:39Speaker 2: very cunning and so in that perspective, he's able to
- 1:07:42Speaker 2: work for both the Empire and the Justscendency without stepping
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: on any toes. Well not really, that's what he said.
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: So like I, I thought this was a really cool moment. Yeah,
- 1:07:58Speaker 2: that is the only thing that I didn't absolutely love
- 1:08:02Speaker 2: is I knew Timothy's on was going to be at
- 1:08:04Speaker 2: this convention, so I brought my copy of Thron Alliance
- 1:08:11Speaker 2: this very what what what you're the book person? What
- 1:08:15Speaker 2: kind of print is this?
- 1:08:17Speaker 3: Is that the one I did? I send you that one?
- 1:08:21Speaker 2: I bought this one.
- 1:08:22Speaker 3: Okay, this is that is the airport version. So it's
- 1:08:29Speaker 3: like in between the trade paperback in the mass market paperback.
- 1:08:33Speaker 3: So it's got the height of a trade paperback, but
- 1:08:36Speaker 3: it's not depth wise the same.
- 1:08:38Speaker 2: Yes, So so I brought this to him to sign.
- 1:08:43Speaker 2: Right next to him, right out of view of this picture,
- 1:08:46Speaker 2: he has a rack of books where he had these
- 1:08:52Speaker 2: two books.
- 1:08:55Speaker 8: And then he had this copy again, so he was
- 1:09:01Speaker 8: missing the trade of Alliance.
- 1:09:06Speaker 2: I would have bought all three again. I would have
- 1:09:10Speaker 2: bought Alliance again. I would have gotten a second copy
- 1:09:12Speaker 2: because I actually love Alliance that much to own two
- 1:09:15Speaker 2: copies of this book.
- 1:09:17Speaker 3: So I don't think Alliances is out in trade yet.
- 1:09:21Speaker 2: Really.
- 1:09:23Speaker 3: Yeah, so they're waiting for everything to kind of go
- 1:09:25Speaker 3: out of print before reprinting them in trade.
- 1:09:29Speaker 2: Oh I don't like that at all. I don't. I
- 1:09:31Speaker 2: don't like that at all.
- 1:09:32Speaker 3: Because because they moved up to the size because they
- 1:09:37Speaker 3: wanted people to have like the same depth to like
- 1:09:39Speaker 3: legends books and stuff.
- 1:09:41Speaker 2: Uh huh.
- 1:09:42Speaker 3: But then they kind of just when COVID hit okay,
- 1:09:44Speaker 3: like we need to kind of move to one form
- 1:09:47Speaker 3: of publication for these books. We don't need five different
- 1:09:51Speaker 3: copies of the same book. So then they moved to trades. Okay,
- 1:09:57Speaker 3: why this page ripped out your autograph page?
- 1:10:05Speaker 2: No, not the autograph page, literally the page before it did. Though.
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: Oh no, this was not a really good bounded book,
- 1:10:14Speaker 2: but I will still keep it. It's fine, it's autographed,
- 1:10:18Speaker 2: it's treason. It's my least favorite of the three. But yeah,
- 1:10:25Speaker 2: let's go ahead and jump into this mini review of
- 1:10:30Speaker 2: Star Wars Thron Treason of course, written by Timothy s On.
- 1:10:39Speaker 3: How did you feel? So this takes place when Thron
- 1:10:41Speaker 3: leaves in the middle of season four?
- 1:10:45Speaker 2: Yes? How I feel is this gives me go no
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: goddamn answers between where we see him at the end
- 1:10:59Speaker 2: of season four of Clone Wars or sorry Rebels, and
- 1:11:07Speaker 2: then where we see him again in Ahska. There is
- 1:11:11Speaker 2: no answers here. Now I understand, but that's not where
- 1:11:15Speaker 2: this book takes place. It's correct, No, no, so, but that's
- 1:11:25Speaker 2: the thing. There's no, there's no there's not an inkling
- 1:11:27Speaker 2: of breadcrumbs either. That's my problem. Okay, Now I understand,
- 1:11:35Speaker 2: and you can correct me if I'm wrong, which I
- 1:11:37Speaker 2: probably am. The other trilogy.
- 1:11:44Speaker 3: Thrown Ascendency is what you're talking about.
- 1:11:46Speaker 2: Right, Yes? Is that a sequel to this?
- 1:11:54Speaker 3: It's a prequel. Is a preel in the prequel trilogy?
- 1:11:59Speaker 2: Okay, see, then I have even more problems.
- 1:12:02Speaker 3: Okay, give you context of where that takes place. So
- 1:12:06Speaker 3: treason or not treason alliances happens in the first book
- 1:12:13Speaker 3: of the Ascendency trilogy.
- 1:12:15Speaker 2: Okay, okay, okay, So reason for people who don't know
- 1:12:22Speaker 2: where in the timeline this lays start us aka, the
- 1:12:29Speaker 2: Death Star is still being constructed. Okay, so this is
- 1:12:38Speaker 2: still very early, like I would almost say like prior
- 1:12:47Speaker 2: to and or maybe just maybe like beginning of Like No,
- 1:12:57Speaker 2: this takes.
- 1:12:58Speaker 3: Place in season four of Rebels, which is zero.
- 1:13:01Speaker 2: Bb Why is it zero? Okay? So okay, yeah, okay,
- 1:13:08Speaker 2: so yeah, so this so okay.
- 1:13:12Speaker 3: So Wikipedia has this, so it says chronologically through on
- 1:13:18Speaker 3: Treeson is set between the Star Wars Rebels episodes Rebel
- 1:13:21Speaker 3: Assault and Family Reunion and Farewell. Rebel Assault is the
- 1:13:29Speaker 3: ninth episode of season four of Rebels. Family Reunion is
- 1:13:36Speaker 3: the fifteenth and final episode of Star Wars Rebels.
- 1:13:40Speaker 2: Okay, so I still like this trilogy as a trilogy.
- 1:13:54Speaker 2: I think it does a very good job at doing
- 1:13:58Speaker 2: what it's supposed to do, which is tell you this
- 1:14:04Speaker 2: story of Thron's journey in the Empire. But where I
- 1:14:18Speaker 2: think it lacks is his journey through the Empire. And
- 1:14:26Speaker 2: the only reason why I say that is because I
- 1:14:30Speaker 2: feel like there was like five to ten years between
- 1:14:37Speaker 2: Alliance and Treason. It just feels like there's so much
- 1:14:45Speaker 2: missing between those two books.
- 1:14:47Speaker 3: Because you got it all in season three of Rebels.
- 1:14:52Speaker 2: I don't like it. No, I get it. I get
- 1:14:57Speaker 2: it again. This is the same issue, and you're preached
- 1:15:03Speaker 2: to the choir heir because I understand this all too well.
- 1:15:07Speaker 2: This is the same problem that literally every connected universe
- 1:15:14Speaker 2: in every single form of media has. You look at comics,
- 1:15:20Speaker 2: you look at any comic book story. The main event
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: stories come up, and they're like, oh, you know Sally
- 1:15:30Speaker 2: from this story blah blah blah blah blah, and you're like,
- 1:15:33Speaker 2: who the hell is Sally. You're like, oh, yeah, you
- 1:15:36Speaker 2: know that tie in of that one series that was
- 1:15:40Speaker 2: like only a mini series of this one character that
- 1:15:45Speaker 2: you never thought about. Yeah, that mini series. This is
- 1:15:50Speaker 2: the exact same problem. Okay, because most people who are
- 1:15:54Speaker 2: reading these books, I'm gonna go ahead and say this
- 1:15:58Speaker 2: generalization and I might be wrong, but it's not so
- 1:16:03Speaker 2: wrong for every other generalization of the same type of thing.
- 1:16:07Speaker 2: And what I'm gonna say is, the people who read
- 1:16:12Speaker 2: this trilogy do not read and watch in order. They're
- 1:16:20Speaker 2: not going to say, hey, I want to read this trilogy,
- 1:16:23Speaker 2: but in between this trilogy, I have to go watch Rebels.
- 1:16:30Speaker 2: They're not going to do that. They're going to read
- 1:16:33Speaker 2: Throng throng Alliances and then thro on Treason and this.
- 1:16:39Speaker 4: Should be our final ad break. So y'all, thanks for
- 1:16:43Speaker 4: bearing with us. We appreciate y'all. We'll be right back.
- 1:16:47Speaker 3: So I will adjust what I had said.
- 1:16:50Speaker 5: By the way, Uh.
- 1:16:52Speaker 3: This, so Treason takes place after episode nine of season four. Yeah,
- 1:17:00Speaker 3: so that's what you're getting. So Alliances takes place after
- 1:17:05Speaker 3: the present timeline of Alliances takes place after season three
- 1:17:10Speaker 3: of Rebels. Then then you have the first part of
- 1:17:14Speaker 3: season four of Rebels, and then you have Treason and
- 1:17:16Speaker 3: then So I think the thought process with this release
- 1:17:23Speaker 3: is that a lot of people still had Rebels in
- 1:17:29Speaker 3: their head because Alliances came out in twenty eighteen. Season
- 1:17:33Speaker 3: three of Rebels came out in twenty sixteen, so a
- 1:17:39Speaker 3: lot of people just had it in their head because
- 1:17:42Speaker 3: Rebels had just recently come out, or as you're reading
- 1:17:44Speaker 3: it now, and Rebels isn't like really in your head.
- 1:17:49Speaker 3: I'm not saying you're wrong. I'm just saying this.
- 1:17:51Speaker 2: Is seven years after the book was released.
- 1:17:58Speaker 3: So no, not saying you're wrong, just presenting where it
- 1:18:05Speaker 3: came up kind of in publishing.
- 1:18:07Speaker 2: No, I get it, I get it. I totally get.
- 1:18:09Speaker 3: It, because so if so Rebels season three came out
- 1:18:17Speaker 3: it started in twenty sixteen October first, twenty sixteen, and
- 1:18:23Speaker 3: it ended March twenty fifth, twenty seventeen, so that this
- 1:18:27Speaker 3: is about a year ish later. And Season four of
- 1:18:31Speaker 3: Rebels came out March October sixteenth, twenty seventeen, so the
- 1:18:38Speaker 3: treasons like two years after this, and I think people
- 1:18:42Speaker 3: were just kind of looking for like a Okay, hey,
- 1:18:45Speaker 3: where are we at in this break?
- 1:18:48Speaker 2: Okay? So also another problem that I have with the
- 1:18:54Speaker 2: trilogy because there is still no resul by the end
- 1:19:02Speaker 2: of this book. Throng Treason, the Grolics, Am I missing
- 1:19:08Speaker 2: something here? Yeah? Sorry? The Risks, the Risks, am I
- 1:19:14Speaker 2: missing something here?
- 1:19:15Speaker 3: And you're you're not missing anything.
- 1:19:19Speaker 2: Like you're they they're oh, the Risks are a huge
- 1:19:25Speaker 2: problem for the Empire. They are a huge threat for
- 1:19:27Speaker 2: the Empire. And then you you see all of these
- 1:19:31Speaker 2: moments again, it's these moments that you're supposed to see
- 1:19:35Speaker 2: in these novels. That's not the part that I'm upset about.
- 1:19:39Speaker 2: But Thron even speaks with like his closest parts of
- 1:19:45Speaker 2: his team is like, oh, I thought twenty billion steps
- 1:19:49Speaker 2: ahead and we're gonna do this and do this, and
- 1:19:51Speaker 2: do this and do this. Oh and they're actually uh
- 1:19:56Speaker 2: uh gonna you know, plan for this because they don't
- 1:20:00Speaker 2: want to be you know, this big of a problem.
- 1:20:03Speaker 2: But you know, they're actually waiting to see what our
- 1:20:06Speaker 2: next step is. But I'm actually twenty steps ahead of them.
- 1:20:09Speaker 2: And no, no, no, like like you know, okay, Thron
- 1:20:12Speaker 2: is trying to weed them out to attack because they
- 1:20:18Speaker 2: are a problem not only for the Empire, but again
- 1:20:21Speaker 2: his number one reason for living is to protect the
- 1:20:26Speaker 2: Chist and nothing comes of it. Literally, I feel like
- 1:20:34Speaker 2: I had never heard of this threat anywhere else and
- 1:20:36Speaker 2: anything Star Wars. It's introduced in Thron. Sorry no, sorry,
- 1:20:44Speaker 2: it's introduced in an alliance because it's it happens along
- 1:20:50Speaker 2: with Darth Vader and Anakin yep, and then nothing.
- 1:21:00Speaker 3: Well, And this is the problem with Star Wars, right,
- 1:21:03Speaker 3: is like most of the time you need a villain
- 1:21:06Speaker 3: in Star Wars, and unless you want an interplanetary conflict
- 1:21:10Speaker 3: like what you get with Classic this, then you need
- 1:21:13Speaker 3: some giant threat involved. And so in some cases that's
- 1:21:19Speaker 3: the Empire. In this case, Zohn was able to kind
- 1:21:23Speaker 3: of write this outside of the parameters of what's going
- 1:21:27Speaker 3: on and is able to just kind of intertwine what
- 1:21:31Speaker 3: intertwined a conflict. The risks come up more in the
- 1:21:34Speaker 3: Ascendency trilogy, and you'll find out and I don't really
- 1:21:39Speaker 3: consider as a spoiler, but you'll find out the risks
- 1:21:43Speaker 3: is why thron was sent to go to the Empire
- 1:21:46Speaker 3: because he found Anakin in Alliances and in that in
- 1:21:54Speaker 3: the past sections of Alliances, and so he found Anakin
- 1:21:57Speaker 3: there and he they hear that, oh the Republic has
- 1:22:02Speaker 3: turned into the Empire. So then thron Is send out
- 1:22:06Speaker 3: under guise of expulsion from the just as tendency for
- 1:22:09Speaker 3: breaking rules and is like, okay, see if they will
- 1:22:13Speaker 3: become a good partner for us. Yeah, And so that's
- 1:22:17Speaker 3: kind of what's intertwined here. But you like, when this
- 1:22:22Speaker 3: book came out, people were like, Okay, what happens next
- 1:22:25Speaker 3: to Vanto, what happens next to Ronan?
- 1:22:28Speaker 2: Like, well, you know, and that is unexceptible, unexceptible, and
- 1:22:41Speaker 2: the reason being, you put me through all of this
- 1:22:48Speaker 2: for Eli's story, Okay, all of this. Van Too was
- 1:22:56Speaker 2: a character that I immediately immediately gravitated towards because he
- 1:23:05Speaker 2: was just like bro I don't even go here. I was,
- 1:23:10Speaker 2: this isn't even my job. This dude accidentally successfully failed upward,
- 1:23:20Speaker 2: like like he could have succeeded on his own. But
- 1:23:25Speaker 2: Thron was like, nah, dude, this is where you don't
- 1:23:29Speaker 2: want to be, and I'm gonna make sure you're the
- 1:23:31Speaker 2: best at it. And he it's like, what, like, I
- 1:23:35Speaker 2: didn't sign up for this, and so yeah, you gravitate
- 1:23:39Speaker 2: towards him through his whole story, and then Thrones like, hey,
- 1:23:45Speaker 2: I got another mission you don't want to do and
- 1:23:47Speaker 2: throws him into a completely different quote unquote empire of course,
- 1:23:53Speaker 2: the Chess ascendency, and like he's basically now a deserter
- 1:24:00Speaker 2: working for this entirely different entity, learning a whole new language,
- 1:24:09Speaker 2: basically becoming a second throng, by the way, very slowly,
- 1:24:14Speaker 2: and like and you're telling me, oh, by the way,
- 1:24:18Speaker 2: you never learn what happens to him after this book,
- 1:24:21Speaker 2: Like fuck, and you cannot tell me that.
- 1:24:27Speaker 3: So and I think the problem lies in the fact
- 1:24:33Speaker 3: that this ran into Okay Rebels season four, Thron goes
- 1:24:38Speaker 3: bye bye. I don't think And this could have been
- 1:24:41Speaker 3: a question that you asked Zon had I known you
- 1:24:43Speaker 3: were going to meet him. I don't think Zon wants
- 1:24:47Speaker 3: to write Star Wars without having Thron or one of
- 1:24:52Speaker 3: his other characters involved. I think he's written one Star
- 1:24:55Speaker 3: Wars book in its entirety that doesn't have Thron yep girls.
- 1:25:02Speaker 3: Every other book that he's written four Star Wars has
- 1:25:04Speaker 3: either had marge Ad or has had Thrown, or has
- 1:25:07Speaker 3: had both. So it's kind of like, eh, which is
- 1:25:14Speaker 3: I think why you get the Ascendency trilogy to give
- 1:25:17Speaker 3: you more background on the risks and the chests and everything,
- 1:25:22Speaker 3: because Lucas Holme basically probably said to him, no, you
- 1:25:26Speaker 3: can't write a sequel because we don't know what happens
- 1:25:30Speaker 3: to Thron yet, and Dave Filoni wants to use him
- 1:25:33Speaker 3: in Asoka.
- 1:25:37Speaker 2: Bullshit, That's what I.
- 1:25:39Speaker 3: Just say, the logical reason.
- 1:25:42Speaker 2: And then and then, as much as I hated the
- 1:25:47Speaker 2: asshole rowin mm hmm, at the very end of this book,
- 1:25:55Speaker 2: like this dude is a sleezebag the entire story, the
- 1:26:01Speaker 2: entire story. He is a brown noser for critic man,
- 1:26:05Speaker 2: he is just a Oh I follow the impact. I
- 1:26:10Speaker 2: ain't finally the impact. I ain't finally impact. Starting at started, started, started,
- 1:26:15Speaker 2: I wanted to smack the shit out of this dude.
- 1:26:18Speaker 2: And then at the very end, when he finally gets
- 1:26:22Speaker 2: the guts to do something actually good, Thrown goes, hey,
- 1:26:31Speaker 2: I really appreciate your work. By the way, you're a
- 1:26:36Speaker 2: dead man, and he's like, what, yeah, you don't understand,
- 1:26:43Speaker 2: like Vader is gonna be watching your back, and after
- 1:26:48Speaker 2: the ship you pulled today, you really think you're gonna
- 1:26:52Speaker 2: survive under Vader. And he's like, all right, yeah, you
- 1:26:57Speaker 2: got me. And so like a boss, he's like, hey,
- 1:27:01Speaker 2: you called one of my best friends a trader. I'm
- 1:27:04Speaker 2: gonna make you a trader, go work for for my people,
- 1:27:10Speaker 2: and now you can tell me. I don't get to
- 1:27:13Speaker 2: know what happens, but ro now, granted I could, I
- 1:27:17Speaker 2: could almost guarantee you I can make that educated guess.
- 1:27:22Speaker 2: Right now, they transfer him into the other ship. That
- 1:27:29Speaker 2: airlock closes, blast to the head. I don't think he
- 1:27:33Speaker 2: makes it into light speed. I genuinely don't because of
- 1:27:42Speaker 2: uh uh uh oh what was her name? What was
- 1:27:45Speaker 2: her name?
- 1:27:46Speaker 3: Alani?
- 1:27:48Speaker 2: Yeah? Orlani? No way, like, because she was even like
- 1:27:52Speaker 2: are you serious, Like you're gonna make me watch after
- 1:27:56Speaker 2: this dude, and you think he's gonna help me I
- 1:28:00Speaker 2: don't think so, Like I I genuinely think he didn't
- 1:28:04Speaker 2: even make it to hyperspace.
- 1:28:08Speaker 3: But even if he did, he realized.
- 1:28:12Speaker 2: Being yeah, like this whole again, Brown knows her for
- 1:28:18Speaker 2: the freaking empire. He's only here, like and he I
- 1:28:23Speaker 2: love how he thinks that he is like playing forty
- 1:28:28Speaker 2: chess while Ron is like eating the pieces or something,
- 1:28:32Speaker 2: because this dude's like, oh, but I know how intellectual
- 1:28:36Speaker 2: Thron is, but he doesn't know how intellectual that I
- 1:28:38Speaker 2: can be. So he probably doesn't know that I know
- 1:28:42Speaker 2: that he knows that I know that he knows, So
- 1:28:44Speaker 2: I'm gonna act like I don't know that he knows
- 1:28:46Speaker 2: that he knows that I don't know. Like he tries,
- 1:28:48Speaker 2: he tries to do all of these things. At the
- 1:28:50Speaker 2: very end of the book, he's like, but this is
- 1:28:53Speaker 2: the real plan and then like the book ends, and
- 1:28:56Speaker 2: I'm just like d like, and I don't get to
- 1:29:00Speaker 2: know what happens after that. That's a bullshit, And that
- 1:29:06Speaker 2: is why that is why this is the weakest book
- 1:29:11Speaker 2: out of the trilogy.
- 1:29:13Speaker 3: It's totally fair, and I think it falls victim to
- 1:29:17Speaker 3: it can't tell you what happened next because Lucasfon once
- 1:29:22Speaker 3: he's thrown Theoretically, theoretically, could John decide to write a
- 1:29:32Speaker 3: novel about Aurlani and Vanto and Ronan? Yes, yes he could.
- 1:29:39Speaker 3: I just don't know if he would. Would you read
- 1:29:42Speaker 3: that book if it did in fact come out?
- 1:29:47Speaker 4: And this should be our final ad break, So y'all,
- 1:29:52Speaker 4: thanks for bearing with us.
- 1:29:53Speaker 3: We appreciate y'all. We'll be right back.
- 1:29:57Speaker 2: After reading this. On there is and And I told this.
- 1:30:05Speaker 2: I told this to Zahn and I've said it to
- 1:30:07Speaker 2: you before, Like we're there to be somebody who has
- 1:30:15Speaker 2: me rooting for the Empire through my entire life. I
- 1:30:21Speaker 2: was told never to root for the Empire. Well, like,
- 1:30:28Speaker 2: that's just good storytelling, Like because because there's a complete difference. Okay,
- 1:30:35Speaker 2: you look at something like uh oh, shoot, what was
- 1:30:40Speaker 2: the story with Palpatine Invader. It's ah, lords of the Sith.
- 1:30:46Speaker 2: You look at Lords of the Sith. I'm not rooting
- 1:30:53Speaker 2: for Palpatine Invader m h in that story because there's
- 1:31:00Speaker 2: still an entirely different part of that story that's the
- 1:31:06Speaker 2: literal birth of the rebellion. Yeah, Like it's a badass story.
- 1:31:12Speaker 2: You get to see Palpatine actually be badass. Outside of
- 1:31:16Speaker 2: Revenge of the Sith, Darth Vader is a fucking menace
- 1:31:20Speaker 2: in that book. It's terrifying and cool. But I never
- 1:31:25Speaker 2: once was rooting for the Empire. This this has me
- 1:31:33Speaker 2: literally rooting for the empire mm hmm, making your protagonist somebody.
- 1:31:41Speaker 2: And that's the really fun and tricky thing about it,
- 1:31:45Speaker 2: is like, yeah, you're rooting for the Empire, but like,
- 1:31:49Speaker 2: deep down inside, you're actually just rooting for the just
- 1:31:52Speaker 2: ascendency and you don't know it, like that's really what
- 1:31:55Speaker 2: it is.
- 1:31:56Speaker 3: It's but you don't don't.
- 1:31:59Speaker 2: You don't earn that until later on in the story.
- 1:32:03Speaker 2: And it's still written in such a way because even
- 1:32:07Speaker 2: you look at the last conversation in this book is
- 1:32:10Speaker 2: between Palpatine and Throng, and Thron's like do you think
- 1:32:16Speaker 2: I'm Like it's Palpatine telling Thron like do you think
- 1:32:20Speaker 2: I'm stupid? Like I know exactly what you're doing, what
- 1:32:26Speaker 2: like what is stopping me from making the decision right
- 1:32:29Speaker 2: now that your decisions are going to backfire on me
- 1:32:34Speaker 2: and you're the threat to the Empire And Thron is
- 1:32:40Speaker 2: just cold face like dude, I got you, Like, yeah,
- 1:32:46Speaker 2: I am looking out for my people. But I have
- 1:32:51Speaker 2: told you again and again and again, I swore myself
- 1:32:57Speaker 2: to the Empire, so therefore I will protect you and
- 1:33:01Speaker 2: the Empire. And it just works out like it. It's
- 1:33:08Speaker 2: almost silly. You could almost say that it's quote unquote
- 1:33:11Speaker 2: bad writing because Thron has the exact same excuse every
- 1:33:15Speaker 2: single time he talks to Palpatine or Invader. But the
- 1:33:19Speaker 2: repetitiveness shows his consistency, which makes him a good character
- 1:33:29Speaker 2: in this trilogy. Mm hmm, which is why I read
- 1:33:35Speaker 2: this trilogy and then look back at Ahsoka and I'm like,
- 1:33:38Speaker 2: what happened? How do you screw up? They slaughtered my boy?
- 1:33:49Speaker 9: Like like like, oh, Nicholson is such a good voice
- 1:33:56Speaker 9: for Thron, but they could have done something like also
- 1:34:01Speaker 9: just prosthetic wise, like okay, we're not talking about that,
- 1:34:04Speaker 9: but like he just does.
- 1:34:05Speaker 3: He doesn't look like Thrown, he doesn't act like Thron.
- 1:34:08Speaker 3: He's got the voice, and that's like it.
- 1:34:10Speaker 2: And now I can tell you this right now, let's say,
- 1:34:16Speaker 2: you know, they pull a complete one eighty and now
- 1:34:21Speaker 2: that they're actually in our known galaxy that we've known
- 1:34:26Speaker 2: since the very beginning of Star Wars, and then Thron's like,
- 1:34:30Speaker 2: oh yeah, by the way, I was just saying all
- 1:34:32Speaker 2: this so that way I can get here. Let me
- 1:34:35Speaker 2: go calm up, my my family, And then the chess
- 1:34:38Speaker 2: syndacy all comes up and like starts doing shit. Then
- 1:34:43Speaker 2: then you you got me like okay, cool, like we're
- 1:34:46Speaker 2: we're heading in the right direction. Cool you you, I'm
- 1:34:50Speaker 2: for you, are forgiven for your past sins. Let's keep
- 1:34:54Speaker 2: on this road. But if they don't do anything like that,
- 1:34:57Speaker 2: and they keep going on this weird thing of thron
- 1:34:59Speaker 2: of all people wanting to be the ruler of the galaxy,
- 1:35:05Speaker 2: it makes no sense.
- 1:35:06Speaker 3: No, he doesn't want to be a ruler.
- 1:35:10Speaker 10: And I highly doubt that they are going to bring
- 1:35:16Speaker 10: in the Chiss into whether it's a Soca season two or.
- 1:35:23Speaker 3: Like the Air of the Empire movie. I just don't
- 1:35:25Speaker 3: think it's gonna happened.
- 1:35:27Speaker 2: But yeah, yeah, it's a shame. But guys, it is
- 1:35:34Speaker 2: getting late. That is it for our review. If you
- 1:35:40Speaker 2: are not listening to this on a random high Republic
- 1:35:44Speaker 2: draft episode, that means that you are listening to all
- 1:35:48Speaker 2: three reviews all at once. And this was in the
- 1:35:54Speaker 2: matter of two and a half months that we talked
- 1:35:57Speaker 2: about all three of these books really really fun to
