- 0:00Speaker 1: We got this email from a couple that's having a
- 0:01Speaker 1: little bit of an issue, and we didn't know how
- 0:03Speaker 1: to handle it on the air until we came up
- 0:06Speaker 1: with John Jay and Rich Love Court.
- 0:11Speaker 2: Raise your hand, take your oaths.
- 0:14Speaker 3: Listeners, volume up, eyes on the road.
- 0:18Speaker 4: It's John Jay and Rich Love Court.
- 0:25Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 0:26Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 0:26Speaker 4: It's a battle. A couple's got a problem. We're going
- 0:29Speaker 4: to help them out. Love Court.
- 0:30Speaker 3: But they agree that whatever we decide, that is how
- 0:34Speaker 3: they must live their life.
- 0:35Speaker 4: From now on.
- 0:35Speaker 3: That's a lot of pressure.
- 0:36Speaker 4: We got Brianna and Marcus. Good morning, you guys. Hey,
- 0:40Speaker 4: good morning. Hi. Welcome to Love Court.
- 0:43Speaker 3: It's John Jay and Rich with Love Court.
- 0:46Speaker 4: The case, Rich. What's the story?
- 0:48Speaker 3: Well, this is the story of Brianna and Marcus. They
- 0:50Speaker 3: live together, guys. And Marcus... He's got his boys over
- 0:54Speaker 3: every single Sunday for football. They eat her food, use
- 0:58Speaker 3: her dishes, leave beer cans everywhere, and somehow she's always
- 1:02Speaker 3: the one that's cleaning up. So Brianna created a new
- 1:05Speaker 3: house rule. Marcus owes her $ 150. Every time his friends
- 1:09Speaker 3: come over, Marcus thinks she's absolutely insane. He already pays
- 1:13Speaker 3: more of the rent and refused to pay an admission
- 1:16Speaker 3: fee to his own living room. But here's where it
- 1:20Speaker 3: gets good. The twist, Brianna doesn't just start charging Marcus.
- 1:23Speaker 3: She created a literal invoice complete with cleaning fees, emotional
- 1:28Speaker 3: distress charges, and a $ 75 surcharge because one of his
- 1:32Speaker 3: friends clogged the toilet. Get it? Totally. Now, Marcus has
- 1:36Speaker 3: revealed that he's been charging his friends $ 25, too, each
- 1:39Speaker 3: to come watch football at the house. He told them
- 1:41Speaker 3: the money was going towards food and drinks, but he's
- 1:43Speaker 3: been pocketing the money. Brianna wants to know why Marcus
- 1:47Speaker 3: is making money off her unpaid labor. This is John J.
- 1:50Speaker 3: Rich Lockhart.
- 1:51Speaker 4: I hear ye, hear ye. Love court is officially in session.
- 1:55Speaker 1: This is where couples bring their relationship drama to us. Okay, Brianna,
- 2:00Speaker 1: since you brought the case to court, what exactly is
- 2:02Speaker 1: going on?
- 2:02Speaker 4: Let's hear your version.
- 2:04Speaker 6: Okay.
- 2:04Speaker 4: Okay.
- 2:05Speaker 6: First of all, I would like the record to show
- 2:07Speaker 6: that I love and adore my boyfriend.
- 2:09Speaker 4: That's good. That's a good start.
- 2:10Speaker 5: Okay.
- 2:10Speaker 3: I'll allow it.
- 2:12Speaker 6: Thank you. But I'm one more Sunday away from walking out.
- 2:15Speaker 6: Every single Sunday, Marcus invites his little football fraternity over
- 2:19Speaker 6: to our house. I'm talking six, sometimes eight grown men.
- 2:23Speaker 6: And they eat everything.
- 2:26Speaker 4: They leave beer.
- 2:26Speaker 6: Cans in my bathroom, chicken wing bones on my coffee table.
- 2:30Speaker 6: And one time, I found a ranch cup in my shoe.
- 2:33Speaker 3: Order in the court.
- 2:36Speaker 6: And somehow, every Monday morning, I'm Cinderella with a Dyson.
- 2:40Speaker 6: I've asked him a million times to clean up after
- 2:43Speaker 6: his friends, but nothing changes. So I decided if I'm
- 2:48Speaker 6: going to be the maid, I'm going to get paid.
- 2:50Speaker 6: I started charging him $ 150 every time his friends come over.
- 2:53Speaker 6: I call it the girlfriend tax. And yes, I sent
- 2:57Speaker 6: him an actual itemized invoice with cleaning fees. You know,
- 3:02Speaker 6: there's a line for unauthorized refrigerator access and emotional distress
- 3:07Speaker 6: charges because I'm not running a charity here.
- 3:10Speaker 3: Well, you know, honestly, as a judge, I already think
- 3:13Speaker 3: he's guilty. I don't even know if the jury needs.
- 3:15Speaker 4: To hear anymore.
- 3:17Speaker 7: All right.
- 3:17Speaker 3: You need to be neutral.
- 3:19Speaker 2: If you are going to be the judge or you
- 3:22Speaker 2: are going to have people outside with pitchforks and bias.
- 3:25Speaker 3: Are you done?
- 3:26Speaker 4: Do you rest your case? Do you? Is there more?
- 3:29Speaker 6: Completely insane.
- 3:31Speaker 8: Okay.
- 3:32Speaker 6: And like, come on. He's turning our living room into
- 3:34Speaker 6: a sports bar every weekend. Somebody needs to be compensated.
- 3:37Speaker 6: And that's me.
- 3:38Speaker 1: Okay.
- 3:39Speaker 3: Okay.
- 3:40Speaker 4: Now we got Marcus's case.
- 3:42Speaker 3: The floor is yours. How do you plead, Marcus? Do
- 3:44Speaker 3: you plead guilty and just want to throw this whole
- 3:46Speaker 3: thing out? No, you want to present your case.
- 3:48Speaker 7: I'm not guilty. Objection, you're on. Nobody's leaving beer cans
- 3:52Speaker 7: in the bathroom. Okay, the ranch, that was totally an accident.
- 3:57Speaker 7: Brianna's lost her mind.
- 3:59Speaker 4: Like, it's football.
- 4:00Speaker 7: You know, like, my friends come over on Sundays to
- 4:04Speaker 7: watch the game. We eat, we hang out. And like, yeah,
- 4:07Speaker 7: she's acting like I'm running some kind of like sports
- 4:10Speaker 7: bar nightclub out of our apartment, which is just, it's
- 4:13Speaker 7: not like that. She also didn't mention, by the way,
- 4:17Speaker 7: that I pay like 65% of our rent. And so
- 4:21Speaker 7: now I have to pay like an admission fee to
- 4:27Speaker 7: sit on my own couch, you know, like, and she
- 4:30Speaker 7: said this, but she literally sent me a PDF invoice saying,
- 4:35Speaker 7: With a do-date.
- 4:37Speaker 3: Yeah, you upset her. You done pissed her off.
- 4:41Speaker 7: And it's not like my friends are free-loading. They're giving
- 4:44Speaker 7: me $ 25 each when they come over so we can
- 4:47Speaker 7: have food and drinks. And it's just ridiculous that now
- 4:52Speaker 7: I have to pay my own girlfriend $ 150 to hang
- 4:54Speaker 7: out with my friends in a house that I'm already
- 4:59Speaker 7: paying for.
- 4:59Speaker 2: OK, but just collect that 25 and hand it to
- 5:03Speaker 2: your girlfriend for just.
- 5:04Speaker 6: Even bearing with you.
- 5:05Speaker 3: OK, wait a minute, jury. It's your time to deliver.
- 5:08Speaker 3: You are not to badger the witness. Let me stay
- 5:12Speaker 3: in line. This whole court's out of order. OK, jury,
- 5:14Speaker 3: you have the case. Would you like to deliberate?
- 5:16Speaker 8: And you may ask the I do have a question
- 5:19Speaker 8: as a member of the jury. I do have a
- 5:21Speaker 8: question for you, Marcus. When you get the money from
- 5:25Speaker 8: your friends, are you actually using that to buy beer
- 5:29Speaker 8: and buy food? Because I kind of feel like Brianna
- 5:32Speaker 8: made it seem like they were eating her food that
- 5:35Speaker 8: she had bought. And that can be pretty maddening.
- 5:38Speaker 7: Yeah, I definitely get food. I've ordered pizza.
- 5:43Speaker 4: I get drinks.
- 5:44Speaker 7: I mean, yes, I do use that money for our stuff.
- 5:49Speaker 8: And how much of Brianna's food do.
- 5:50Speaker 4: They eat, though?
- 5:52Speaker 7: I'm honestly, I'm not keeping track. I'm not like.
- 5:56Speaker 3: They eat all of it. All of it.
- 6:00Speaker 6: I can't believe they're paying you.
- 6:01Speaker 4: Order in the court.
- 6:04Speaker 8: That was my question as a member of the jury.
- 6:07Speaker 3: Valid.
- 6:08Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 6:08Speaker 2: Valid question.
- 6:09Speaker 6: I make a seven layer dip every weekend.
- 6:11Speaker 2: Every weekend.
- 6:12Speaker 6: And you're making money off of me.
- 6:13Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 6:14Speaker 1: I said, did you guys, is this like new news
- 6:17Speaker 1: to you that he was charging people?
- 6:19Speaker 6: Yeah. I did not know he was making money off
- 6:21Speaker 6: of that.
- 6:21Speaker 7: This is absolutely making money.
- 6:25Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 6:25Speaker 4: So it's not like a business.
- 6:26Speaker 6: Your friend's 25 bucks. Sometimes there's 10 people over. Do
- 6:29Speaker 6: the math.
- 6:29Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 6:30Speaker 7: That's all going into the same thing. We share groceries. We,
- 6:34Speaker 7: we share everything. So it's all going into the same thing.
- 6:38Speaker 4: Like, fund of life. Gotcha.
- 6:41Speaker 3: You both have made your case. I'd like to turn
- 6:43Speaker 3: this over to the jury now.
- 6:44Speaker 4: Okay, now, are we trying to decide whether he should
- 6:46Speaker 4: have people over?
- 6:48Speaker 8: Or should he pay her?
- 6:49Speaker 5: Do they break up? What are the possible outcomes? They're
- 6:52Speaker 5: not going.
- 6:53Speaker 3: To break up. We're not ruling on whether they should
- 6:55Speaker 3: still keep the relationship.
- 6:56Speaker 8: I think we're ruling on whether or not he should
- 6:58Speaker 8: have to pay her the $ 150.
- 6:59Speaker 4: Is that correct?
- 7:00Speaker 5: Yes.
- 7:01Speaker 4: That's what I was catching. Okay.
- 7:02Speaker 3: She's charging him. with like her time of cleaning.
- 7:06Speaker 4: Yeah, there's a lot of math.
- 7:07Speaker 3: Making food and eating her, yeah.
- 7:08Speaker 4: There's a lot of math in Love Court.
- 7:11Speaker 5: Right.
- 7:11Speaker 2: It would be like, I mean, if you were to
- 7:13Speaker 2: get someone to come and professionally clean your home, that
- 7:15Speaker 2: might cost.
- 7:16Speaker 7: You $ 150.
- 7:16Speaker 3: Or DoorDash for food. Or whatever.
- 7:19Speaker 2: So in that case, you kind of are just.
- 7:22Speaker 3: Kind of paying yourself.
- 7:24Speaker 8: I kind of feel like maybe some sort of agreement
- 7:26Speaker 8: could be made to where if Brianna's not stuck cleaning
- 7:30Speaker 8: everything up, he doesn't have to pay her because he's
- 7:32Speaker 8: cleaning up the mess of his front.
- 7:34Speaker 4: He should clean up the mess.
- 7:35Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:37Speaker 1: You wouldn't charge, don't charge people to come over to
- 7:39Speaker 1: your house, but you and your boy should rotate houses.
- 7:41Speaker 4: Not always in your house.
- 7:43Speaker 8: That's a good suggestion as well.
- 7:44Speaker 1: Who's ever having the party at the house, they're getting
- 7:46Speaker 1: the pizza. And if you want to make the seven
- 7:48Speaker 1: layer dip for your buddies, that's for his friends.
- 7:50Speaker 4: That's up to you. but that's how I would do it.
- 7:53Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 7:54Speaker 4: So now we vote. Is there a different option?
- 7:56Speaker 2: I was just going to say, here's another suggestion. Marcus,
- 7:59Speaker 2: if you want to have your boys over at your house,
- 8:01Speaker 2: maybe you guys got the 100-inch screen TV or whatever,
- 8:04Speaker 2: you got to give Brianna some money so she can
- 8:06Speaker 2: go to the bar with her girlfriends and get out
- 8:08Speaker 2: the house.
- 8:08Speaker 8: But that's what she's saying. She wants him to pay her.
- 8:10Speaker 8: So you're in favor of him paying her.
- 8:12Speaker 3: I'm in favor of you paying her. Okay, sounds like
- 8:15Speaker 3: what the court... We've got a split jury here. So
- 8:18Speaker 3: it looks like I'm... He.
- 8:21Speaker 6: Needs to pay her for the stress of.
- 8:23Speaker 3: Having those gross, stinky men in her home.
- 8:25Speaker 8: I like the idea of compromising because you're going to
- 8:29Speaker 8: have to continue to do this if your relationship is
- 8:31Speaker 8: going to work. A good compromise would be that Marcus
- 8:35Speaker 8: does not have to pay Brianna unless the same behavior continues.
- 8:42Speaker 8: If new behavior such as rotating friends' houses and him
- 8:46Speaker 8: cleaning up his friends' messes happens, then he does not
- 8:49Speaker 8: get a bill. But if the same behavior does continue,
- 8:52Speaker 8: then you've got to pay.
- 8:53Speaker 3: Fair enough.
- 8:54Speaker 4: Works for me.
- 8:55Speaker 3: Fair enough. Marcus, do you understand you've got to clean
- 8:59Speaker 3: up and you've got to pay for the food when
- 9:01Speaker 3: it's at your house? If you don't, then she can
- 9:04Speaker 3: charge you $ 150.
- 9:04Speaker 4: We're halfway through football season. I understand.
- 9:08Speaker 7: We are, like, I already am pretty much paying for
- 9:11Speaker 7: the food. And it's just, like, so dumb that this is, like,
- 9:16Speaker 7: now a big deal.
- 9:17Speaker 4: But whatever.
- 9:18Speaker 3: Whatever. No, it's a big deal.
- 9:20Speaker 2: Just agree, Marcus.
- 9:21Speaker 4: Just agree.
- 9:22Speaker 3: Marcus is guilty. We rule in favor of Brianna. Brianna,
- 9:27Speaker 3: you win.
- 9:27Speaker 4: Way to go, Brianna.
- 9:28Speaker 3: Bring in the dancing lobsters.
