- 0:42Speaker 2: Welcome to another episode of Mental Health Matters. I've got
- 0:47Speaker 2: doctor Chrudy Simmons on with us today. We've been doing
- 0:51Speaker 2: a various series on different topics. Last time was porn
- 0:55Speaker 2: and we talked about behaviors you've talked about with sidal thoughts,
- 1:01Speaker 2: and I just wanted to get in a little bit
- 1:04Speaker 2: into Welcome to see doctor Trudy.
- 1:07Speaker 3: Good to see pastor Chuck. Thanks for having me.
- 1:10Speaker 2: Yeah. We even did one show from a Starbucks. In
- 1:12Speaker 2: the background, you were traveling with your husband at one
- 1:15Speaker 2: of the stores. And I appreciate your availability to go
- 1:19Speaker 2: live and you have a laptop and good Wi Fi.
- 1:21Speaker 2: We can go live anywhere. That's right. That's right.
- 1:24Speaker 3: Technology is amazing as long as we know how to
- 1:26Speaker 3: work it, which that stretched me that day. I was like,
- 1:28Speaker 3: I don't even know how to go live from So
- 1:31Speaker 3: it worked out and I was very thankful.
- 1:34Speaker 2: And I've got a lot of things streaming behind me,
- 1:36Speaker 2: and I'm noticing my show open is like struggling to
- 1:38Speaker 2: get through my show open. So I got some tech
- 1:41Speaker 2: issues to work out, but I wanted to jump into
- 1:45Speaker 2: a little bit about you today. This is like our
- 1:48Speaker 2: fifth time we decided to start doing this one on
- 1:50Speaker 2: ones and then next week we'll we have Nick Rick
- 1:55Speaker 2: Corvedo and his nephew Cody that have a counseling accounseling
- 2:00Speaker 2: practice here in Farmington. I know you're a coach, You're
- 2:04Speaker 2: a minister, a therapist, most of all a daughter of
- 2:07Speaker 2: the Most High God. Amen to that. That's your identity
- 2:11Speaker 2: in these roles. Your focus is helping all who come
- 2:14Speaker 2: into your life receive, acquire, and move into their purpose.
- 2:21Speaker 2: So I've read lots of books where I know companies
- 2:25Speaker 2: have a mission statement, but there's some coaches that will
- 2:29Speaker 2: encourage individuals to think what would be your mission statement?
- 2:32Speaker 2: Your life, your purpose? You thought through all that, obviously
- 2:38Speaker 2: your published that that's on your website.
- 2:40Speaker 3: So purpose is something that has always been in my
- 2:46Speaker 3: heart to help people find because otherwise we're lost. But
- 2:50Speaker 3: scripture even says without a vision, my people perish. And
- 2:53Speaker 3: so people want to know why they're here. That's a
- 2:56Speaker 3: that's a huge topic. People go through seasons in their lives.
- 3:01Speaker 3: So I'm like, hey, why am I here? What am
- 3:02Speaker 3: I supposed to be doing? You know, we don't feel
- 3:05Speaker 3: fulfilled enough, or we don't feel challenged enough, and so
- 3:08Speaker 3: people feel lost, pastor Chuck, And it's happening more and
- 3:13Speaker 3: more with the busyness of life. We are busy, and
- 3:16Speaker 3: we are doing so many things that are we doing
- 3:18Speaker 3: what God really called us and gifted us to do?
- 3:21Speaker 3: And if we're not, it's going to leave us at
- 3:23Speaker 3: the end of the day empty and drained.
- 3:26Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure. And even the phrase came up on
- 3:31Speaker 2: our last show. I just did a national Coalition of
- 3:34Speaker 2: Ministries to Men's show with a guy named David Maddox
- 3:37Speaker 2: who was a teacher speaker for the Coalition of Ministries
- 3:41Speaker 2: of Men, and he had a book called ten Minutes
- 3:44Speaker 2: that Transform Intentional with your kids to get scripture in them.
- 3:49Speaker 2: And it's our role as a mom or dad or
- 3:51Speaker 2: even a grandparent to make sure that we're you know,
- 3:55Speaker 2: getting scripture in the mind. And that's kind of the
- 3:58Speaker 2: tagline for mental health matters, renew your mind, renew your life.
- 4:02Speaker 2: So even before we went life, before we went live,
- 4:04Speaker 2: you're like, we want to talk about taking every thought
- 4:06Speaker 2: captive to the obedience of Christ. So our thought life
- 4:09Speaker 2: is crazy. There's even billboards as I'm driving fantasy and
- 4:14Speaker 2: it shows the girl and it's an adult stop and
- 4:17Speaker 2: fantasy life. And you know, God's been convicting me over
- 4:21Speaker 2: previous fantasies in my thought life. And I'm like, I'm
- 4:23Speaker 2: a minister now, twenty five years in and it's not
- 4:26Speaker 2: okay to be fantasizing about things that are not godly right,
- 4:31Speaker 2: and you know, so, I mean there's a whole there's
- 4:33Speaker 2: a whole lot there, and so our thought life matters.
- 4:37Speaker 2: And again this is where our purpose will either be
- 4:40Speaker 2: attacked or solidified, right.
- 4:43Speaker 3: Absolutely, And back to getting your mind, you know, getting
- 4:46Speaker 3: that the word into our children. It's so important. My
- 4:50Speaker 3: my daughter right now, I have a twenty year old
- 4:52Speaker 3: and then I have a ten year old and my
- 4:53Speaker 3: little girl's like, Mom, when i'm your age, we're not
- 4:56Speaker 3: even going to be living in reality. We're going to
- 4:58Speaker 3: be living in a virtual world. And I was like,
- 5:01Speaker 3: that's why you need to be grounded right now. And
- 5:03Speaker 3: it's got word. You need to know what his word
- 5:05Speaker 3: says because there's a difference between truth and lie, and
- 5:09Speaker 3: as believers, we have to learn how to decipher what's
- 5:13Speaker 3: real what's not real. Even if you look on social media,
- 5:16Speaker 3: pastor Chuck, you know, you can put photos on there
- 5:18Speaker 3: and they're not real. I created something the other day.
- 5:21Speaker 3: I was just playing with Ai and I was like,
- 5:25Speaker 3: oh my goodness, it looks so real. So being grounded
- 5:28Speaker 3: and rooted in God's word will help us when we
- 5:31Speaker 3: need to, you know, need that discernment. But and that
- 5:34Speaker 3: does go to taking your thoughts captive, renewing your mind
- 5:38Speaker 3: on God's word. I tell my clients a lot when
- 5:41Speaker 3: they're struggling, I'm like, Okay, you got to take your
- 5:43Speaker 3: thought captive. But not only that, You've got to challenge
- 5:46Speaker 3: that thought. Does that thought line up with the word
- 5:48Speaker 3: of God? That does that thought say what God's word says?
- 5:52Speaker 3: So then you capture it, you challenge it, and then
- 5:56Speaker 3: you change it. If the thought is not lining up
- 5:58Speaker 3: with God's word. If it's not at a fine then
- 6:03Speaker 3: we need to start changing those thoughts.
- 6:06Speaker 2: Yeah, every thought captive. You know what do you remember
- 6:10Speaker 2: the Bible verse area for that one is?
- 6:14Speaker 3: Is it Ephesians?
- 6:17Speaker 2: Yeah? Okay, hold on, So the good thing about Bible
- 6:24Speaker 2: gateways you can actually do a search take every thought.
- 6:30Speaker 2: Let's see, there you go. I was thinking because this
- 6:37Speaker 2: is also there's another key verse that's kind of associated
- 6:41Speaker 2: with it. Let's let's look at it real quickly, make
- 6:43Speaker 2: a big screen. It says, there's our mental health matters,
- 6:47Speaker 2: renew your mind, reknew your life. That's based on Romans
- 6:50Speaker 2: twelve one. Don't be conformed to the world, but be
- 6:53Speaker 2: transformed by the renewing of your mind. That's kind of
- 6:55Speaker 2: a subtitle for our show. But Second Corinthians, Chapter ten,
- 7:00Speaker 2: verse five, casting down arguments and every high thing that
- 7:06Speaker 2: exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought
- 7:11Speaker 2: into captivity to the obedience of Christ. So we live
- 7:18Speaker 2: in a world where a lot of people are feelings
- 7:22Speaker 2: I don't feel like going to work today, and they
- 7:23Speaker 2: just didn't go. I need a me day, right right,
- 7:26Speaker 2: you know, I mean, who's not tired getting out of bed?
- 7:28Speaker 2: And you know, we got things to do and place
- 7:32Speaker 2: to go. And you know, if we just operated on
- 7:34Speaker 2: feelings alone, we're in trouble.
- 7:36Speaker 3: Right. Our feelings lie to us, you know, our feelings
- 7:40Speaker 3: will lie to us, our emotions will lie to us.
- 7:43Speaker 3: And there's a saying that says, it's so crazy. It's
- 7:45Speaker 3: okay to have feelings, it's okay to have emotions, just
- 7:48Speaker 3: don't let those emotions and feelings have you. Right. God
- 7:51Speaker 3: gave us our emotions. He gave us that ability to
- 7:54Speaker 3: feel is long as it's not controlling us down a
- 7:59Speaker 3: negative path. And a lot of times, you know, people
- 8:01Speaker 3: come into my office because they have let their feelings
- 8:04Speaker 3: and emotions lead them down to a negative path.
- 8:08Speaker 2: Yeah, I'd also say adultery started with they fell out
- 8:12Speaker 2: of love and fell in love with someone Else's the
- 8:15Speaker 2: reason why God made it a commandment. Don't commit adultery
- 8:18Speaker 2: because you're going to feel like doing it.
- 8:20Speaker 3: Now.
- 8:20Speaker 2: I would just say this, even like last couple of weeks,
- 8:22Speaker 2: I've been thinking temptation, every temptation known the man, and
- 8:26Speaker 2: I think that's also in this area of scripture. We're
- 8:28Speaker 2: going to expound upon that there's no temptation uncommon demand.
- 8:33Speaker 2: But with every temptation. God makes a way of escape, right,
- 8:37Speaker 2: you know, you can run from it. You don't have
- 8:40Speaker 2: to do this. You know, there's a choice, right, you know.
- 8:44Speaker 2: And that's where we decide whether we're going to give
- 8:46Speaker 2: into the temptation or we're going to be obedient. Absolutely
- 8:49Speaker 2: the enemy, you know, he'll dangle some things in front
- 8:51Speaker 2: or even the flesh itself, the devil and his buddies.
- 8:55Speaker 2: We don't even need their help sometimes with some of
- 8:57Speaker 2: the things that we desire. Yeah, yeah, so he said.
- 9:03Speaker 2: James says, you know, don't when anyone's being tempted, don't
- 9:06Speaker 2: say I'm being tempted by God, because God doesn't tempt anyone,
- 9:10Speaker 2: and he himself is not tempted. But temptations arise when
- 9:14Speaker 2: our own evil desires are conceived at births sin and
- 9:18Speaker 2: then if sin fully grown, leads to death, right, death
- 9:22Speaker 2: of that marriage, to death of yourself. Even overdoses, I
- 9:26Speaker 2: feel like getting high, I'm going to try something and
- 9:29Speaker 2: had ventanyl and it didn't know. One hundred and ten
- 9:31Speaker 2: thousand people overdose from drugs this last year. I'm almost
- 9:35Speaker 2: sure ninety nine point nine percent of them thought they
- 9:38Speaker 2: were just partying. They wanted to do you know they
- 9:40Speaker 2: didn't think that was a fatal dose.
- 9:42Speaker 3: Absolutely. One of my sons, one of his very best friends, died.
- 9:47Speaker 3: I think it was two years ago from an overdose
- 9:50Speaker 3: and the same thing. You know, he just talked to Jonathan,
- 9:53Speaker 3: I'll see you tomorrow. Well, you know, we'll talk, and
- 9:56Speaker 3: there was no tomorrow for him because he gave in
- 9:59Speaker 3: to And I think it's the familiar, right, It's it's
- 10:03Speaker 3: the familiar. This is what my bodies use you, this
- 10:05Speaker 3: is what I do. And that's where you have to
- 10:08Speaker 3: again take those thoughts captive, and what may be familiar
- 10:12Speaker 3: may not be the right thing, and so learning how
- 10:14Speaker 3: to say no and walk the other way. It's like,
- 10:19Speaker 3: you know, it's like, let's do a three sixty, but
- 10:21Speaker 3: instead of a three sixty, you kind of need to
- 10:23Speaker 3: do a one eighty because a three sixty turns you
- 10:25Speaker 3: around and you're right back to where you started from.
- 10:27Speaker 3: So instead do a one eighty and turn and flee
- 10:30Speaker 3: and go the other way.
- 10:32Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure. And just to expound the Popti verse,
- 10:40Speaker 2: it's always good to read a little bit before and after,
- 10:42Speaker 2: keeping it in context, because I heard a preacher and say,
- 10:45Speaker 2: if you take the text out of the word context.
- 10:48Speaker 2: You left with con. So we don't want to be
- 10:52Speaker 2: con But the weapons of our warfare are not carnal,
- 10:55Speaker 2: but mighty in God, for pulling down strongholds, casting down
- 10:59Speaker 2: argue and every high thing that exalts itself against the
- 11:02Speaker 2: knowledge of God. And that's the atheist, and that's the
- 11:06Speaker 2: even agnostics. They've fallen into a place where somebody gave
- 11:11Speaker 2: them an argument that God doesn't exist. Satan's tried it
- 11:14Speaker 2: with Eve. Did God really say you can't eat from
- 11:17Speaker 2: this tree? Just causing her to doubt every knowledge against God,
- 11:22Speaker 2: bringing every thought captive to the obedience of Christ, being
- 11:25Speaker 2: ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled.
- 11:30Speaker 2: Wait a minute, the Bible talked about punishment. I mean,
- 11:36Speaker 2: this isn't a lo God is love and do whatever
- 11:38Speaker 2: you want kind of God. I mean he's requiring obedience. Yeah, yeah,
- 11:43Speaker 2: and there's a punishment if you disobey.
- 11:45Speaker 3: Well, think about as a parent, right, we still love
- 11:48Speaker 3: our children when we have to punish them or you know,
- 11:51Speaker 3: put them in time out or take their electronics, but
- 11:54Speaker 3: we still love them. There's consequences to be in disobedient
- 11:57Speaker 3: and we hope that there's you know, I think Lord
- 12:00Speaker 3: corrects us in love and he doesn't turn his face
- 12:03Speaker 3: from us. But and that is as as we do
- 12:06Speaker 3: as parents. You know, you've you crossed the line. So
- 12:09Speaker 3: therefore there's a punishment. Doesn't mean I don't love you,
- 12:12Speaker 3: doesn't mean we're not gonna connect again. It just means
- 12:16Speaker 3: that you're in time out for you know, five minutes,
- 12:20Speaker 3: ten minutes. For me, I used to get punished all
- 12:22Speaker 3: the time, pastor truck for my grades. And I would
- 12:24Speaker 3: be in my room for semesters at times.
- 12:29Speaker 2: For all semesters.
- 12:31Speaker 3: Yeah, because my grades were so bad. My parents were like,
- 12:33Speaker 3: if you can't study, you have to stay in your room,
- 12:35Speaker 3: no TV, no makeup, no hair, you know, styling. You
- 12:40Speaker 3: can come down and eat breakfast, lunch, and dinner and
- 12:42Speaker 3: then you go right back up to your room. They
- 12:43Speaker 3: thought I would study more.
- 12:46Speaker 2: Yeah exactly, and uh it worked right. Look at you
- 12:53Speaker 2: now you're a doctor, and uh you know back to purpose.
- 12:56Speaker 2: You knew what your purpose was, and sometimes parents may
- 12:59Speaker 2: i mean know the purpose for their children. Everybody has
- 13:01Speaker 2: a calling. And yeah, I'm proud of you and you've
- 13:11Speaker 2: got an amazing ministry and glad we're partners, and it's
- 13:13Speaker 2: been rolling along the bottom. By the way, The Christian
- 13:16Speaker 2: View the shows you have a panel of folks that
- 13:19Speaker 2: talk about topics because God has a view. The Christian
- 13:23Speaker 2: View seven thirty pm Eastern every night on Overcomers TV.
- 13:28Speaker 2: You've been airing on our channel since it went live
- 13:31Speaker 2: in twenty nineteen, so we've been live for six years,
- 13:35Speaker 2: and you've been a faithful producer covering these tough topics
- 13:39Speaker 2: and bringing other people in and the word of God.
- 13:43Speaker 2: And again, as we read through it, words like that punishment,
- 13:48Speaker 2: disobedience to God, our creator, God, our father, like you
- 13:53Speaker 2: said as to a good parent. That's super important. It
- 13:56Speaker 2: also reminds me of Hebrews twelve. Kind of go there
- 14:00Speaker 2: real quick and know you're good with just tracking with me.
- 14:03Speaker 2: I'm like, add all over the place.
- 14:05Speaker 3: That's okay, me too, So I'm good with it.
- 14:08Speaker 2: Yeah. So Hebrews twelve talks about this. He goes, therefore,
- 14:14Speaker 2: since we're surrounded by such a great clyd witnesses, he
- 14:17Speaker 2: just mentioned a whole lot of Old Testament saints that
- 14:20Speaker 2: are in the presence of God, and that's who we
- 14:22Speaker 2: believe he was talking about. Let us lay aside every
- 14:25Speaker 2: weight and sin which so easily ensnares us. And let
- 14:29Speaker 2: us run the race with endurance, the race that is
- 14:31Speaker 2: set before us, looking under Jesus, the author and the
- 14:35Speaker 2: finisher of our faith. William Portante, as they say in Spanish,
- 14:39Speaker 2: who for the joy set before him, endured the cross,
- 14:42Speaker 2: despising the shame he sat down at the right hand
- 14:45Speaker 2: of the throne of God. So there's a lot right there,
- 14:48Speaker 2: but unpack that for us.
- 14:52Speaker 3: Yeah, the first thing that I love is that we
- 14:55Speaker 3: are the joy that was set before him, where it
- 14:57Speaker 3: says who for the joy that was set before him?
- 15:00Speaker 3: We are the joy in my mind that was set
- 15:03Speaker 3: before him, that gay, you know that? So he endured
- 15:06Speaker 3: the cross for us, And then I love let us
- 15:08Speaker 3: run with endurance the race that was set before us.
- 15:11Speaker 3: We all have a race to run. And I and
- 15:13Speaker 3: I'm an avid runner. And I was like, life is
- 15:17Speaker 3: not a sprint pastor truck. It is a marathon and
- 15:20Speaker 3: is an endurance race. And if you think about running,
- 15:25Speaker 3: when you run, if you look to the right or
- 15:27Speaker 3: to the left, if you're in a race, it slows
- 15:29Speaker 3: you down. If I look to see where my opponent is,
- 15:32Speaker 3: you know, are who I'm racing against is where they
- 15:34Speaker 3: are and it slows me down. And so that's how
- 15:37Speaker 3: it is. In kind of our faith as well. There
- 15:40Speaker 3: should be no competition in the Body of Christ. We
- 15:43Speaker 3: should all be running our own race, looking to Him,
- 15:48Speaker 3: the author and finisher of our faith, to get us
- 15:50Speaker 3: to where we need to be. Now, we can link
- 15:52Speaker 3: arms with each other and we can be side by side,
- 15:55Speaker 3: but there should be no competition because we all have
- 15:58Speaker 3: our own purpose, our own race to run that really
- 16:01Speaker 3: no one else can do as well as we can,
- 16:04Speaker 3: because he's called to that certain race.
- 16:06Speaker 2: That's good. I just added a QR code next to
- 16:09Speaker 2: you there, and that'll bring him right to toudysimmons dot com.
- 16:13Speaker 2: That's your website, toutysimmons dot com. There's even a little
- 16:16Speaker 2: button there. Make your appointment now and live your best life,
- 16:21Speaker 2: you know. And that's really what we're trying to talk about,
- 16:23Speaker 2: is is mental health matters finding your purpose and celebrate
- 16:28Speaker 2: recovery and other twelve step groups. Is a thing called
- 16:31Speaker 2: stinking thinking. And you know, you talked about running that race,
- 16:35Speaker 2: and there's times where your body's yelling, quit, stop, I
- 16:38Speaker 2: need water. You're like, no, We're pushing through this you're
- 16:42Speaker 2: telling your body what you will do, what you know,
- 16:45Speaker 2: what you're gonna eat, what you're not gonna eat. I mean,
- 16:47Speaker 2: this is I heard it. One said, you're six inches
- 16:51Speaker 2: between your ear to ear. That's your real estate. It is.
- 16:54Speaker 3: Our mind is so so powerful, and they say that
- 16:57Speaker 3: we only really use forty percent of it. We don't
- 17:00Speaker 3: use the fullness that God has given us in our
- 17:03Speaker 3: mind and in our brains. We shut down. And people,
- 17:06Speaker 3: if they would tap into their full potential for what
- 17:10Speaker 3: God has called them to do, it would be amazing.
- 17:14Speaker 3: People would be so excited, they would have the biggest
- 17:18Speaker 3: and best adventures in their life if they would tap
- 17:20Speaker 3: into the fullness of really what God has placed inside
- 17:24Speaker 3: of them. But I think about racing, and I'm doing
- 17:27Speaker 3: another one hundred mile run for my dad because you know,
- 17:30Speaker 3: he passed away a year and a half ago. And
- 17:33Speaker 3: I always say, if my mind can conceive it, then
- 17:36Speaker 3: my body can achieve it. So when I think about
- 17:38Speaker 3: running one hundred miles and twenty four hours, I mean,
- 17:41Speaker 3: I think about one step at a time, But I'm
- 17:43Speaker 3: already thinking in my mind that I've already crossed my
- 17:45Speaker 3: finish line. Because if I can get my mind to
- 17:48Speaker 3: conceive it. My body's going to achieve it. I'm not
- 17:50Speaker 3: going to quit because I know where the finish line is.
- 17:52Speaker 3: And so often we talk ourselves out of victory, we
- 17:57Speaker 3: talk ourselves out of success, and we talk ourselves out
- 18:01Speaker 3: of healthy relationships because we've been trained to be so
- 18:05Speaker 3: negative and so defeated.
- 18:08Speaker 2: Yeah, amen, that's good. And again it's a mental thing.
- 18:12Speaker 2: And I know we didn't plan on really going there
- 18:16Speaker 2: deep on that the punishment part, but we got to
- 18:19Speaker 2: keep reading the scriptures because this is the encouraging part.
- 18:24Speaker 2: The whole Letter of Hebrews is amazing. It kind of
- 18:29Speaker 2: really puts a lot of things into perspective. But verse
- 18:32Speaker 2: three goes on to say, for consider him who endured
- 18:37Speaker 2: such hostility. He's talking about Jesus. Considered Jesus, who endured
- 18:42Speaker 2: such hostility from sinners against himself, unless you become weary
- 18:47Speaker 2: and discouraged in your souls. Again, this is a mental
- 18:51Speaker 2: health thing right here, and people to become weary and discouraged.
- 18:56Speaker 2: And he goes on to say, you have not yet
- 18:58Speaker 2: resisted to bloodshed striving against sin. We give in way
- 19:03Speaker 2: too quick. Nobody's gotten a beaten because they didn't sin,
- 19:05Speaker 2: and you have forgotten the exhortation which speaks to you
- 19:08Speaker 2: as sons, My son, you talked about your identity as
- 19:12Speaker 2: a daughter of the Most High. Do not despise the
- 19:15Speaker 2: chastening of the Lord, nor be discouraged when you are
- 19:18Speaker 2: rebuked by him. For whom the Lord loves, he chastens.
- 19:22Speaker 2: He scourges every son whom he receives. And he goes
- 19:25Speaker 2: on to say, if you endure chastening, God deals with
- 19:27Speaker 2: you as sons. For what son is there whom a
- 19:30Speaker 2: father did not chasten. But you are without chastening, you
- 19:33Speaker 2: will become partakers, and you are illimitgit not sons. Furthermore,
- 19:37Speaker 2: we have human fathers who corrected us. We paid them respect,
- 19:40Speaker 2: how much not much more? Be readily in subjection to
- 19:43Speaker 2: the father of spirits and live. So he's kind of
- 19:46Speaker 2: reasoning with people that some people are going through what
- 19:49Speaker 2: they're going through because they've been disobedient to God. They're
- 19:51Speaker 2: running from God. They did not cast every argument down
- 19:55Speaker 2: against the knowledge of God, and these strongholds and they're
- 19:58Speaker 2: all bound up because they're relationship. You're just not right
- 20:01Speaker 2: with God. So first and foremost are mental health matters.
- 20:05Speaker 2: You need to know that you're a son and daughter
- 20:06Speaker 2: of Jesus. Settle that issue right now, receive Christ his grace,
- 20:11Speaker 2: his forgiveness, and then start from there. That's foundational to
- 20:16Speaker 2: our mental health. And then you know, if we're going
- 20:19Speaker 2: through some tough stuff, we got to ask, hey, is
- 20:21Speaker 2: this no fault in my own or is this really
- 20:23Speaker 2: God's discipline in my life? Because a lot of people
- 20:25Speaker 2: don't want to think that God, you know, and again
- 20:28Speaker 2: with love is like, hey, even your dad, your parents
- 20:32Speaker 2: had to discipline you. He goes on to say that
- 20:34Speaker 2: the fruit of discipline is righteousness and peace. So I
- 20:37Speaker 2: know it's so many sermon there. You take it from there.
- 20:40Speaker 3: No, I love it. I love it, and I love
- 20:43Speaker 3: the fact that it does say for whom he loves,
- 20:45Speaker 3: he disciplines because if we can think about that through
- 20:50Speaker 3: the eyes of love, I think we would think about
- 20:52Speaker 3: the discipline differently. But then also the identity to know
- 20:57Speaker 3: who you truly are past our truck, because if we
- 20:59Speaker 3: don't know who we truly are, if we don't know
- 21:02Speaker 3: that we are sons and daughters of the King, we're
- 21:04Speaker 3: going to act differently, We're going to walk differently, We're
- 21:07Speaker 3: going to sin differently because we don't really know who
- 21:09Speaker 3: we are. And when you think about purpose or mental health,
- 21:14Speaker 3: that's a core essence is you have to know where
- 21:18Speaker 3: your identity lies, because if your identity lies in the world,
- 21:21Speaker 3: there's a saying that says, if we live by people's praise,
- 21:24Speaker 3: then we're going to die by their criticism, and so
- 21:27Speaker 3: we are. If we're just hanging out for for a
- 21:30Speaker 3: pat on the back, for a high five from other people,
- 21:35Speaker 3: then that's not going to last because people are fickle people.
- 21:40Speaker 2: Pleasing is exhausting. Trying to pa it's very exhausting, it is.
- 21:44Speaker 3: It's draining, and you can't walk in your full identity
- 21:48Speaker 3: if you and your purpose, if you are trying to
- 21:51Speaker 3: please everybody and anyone, you just can't. I tried it
- 21:55Speaker 3: for years. It's exhausting.
- 21:58Speaker 2: And so what's funny because it's like worrying about what
- 22:01Speaker 2: other people think. I mean, that's their mental health. All
- 22:05Speaker 2: work come on my own and most.
- 22:07Speaker 3: Of the time those people aren't even thinking about us.
- 22:10Speaker 3: They may be to some degree, but you know, we've
- 22:13Speaker 3: got to have we have to be single minded to Okay,
- 22:17Speaker 3: we've got an audience of one and that's who we've
- 22:21Speaker 3: got to stay connected to and then everything else kind
- 22:23Speaker 3: of trickles from that. But I spent way too many
- 22:26Speaker 3: years people pleasing and wanting people to like me so
- 22:30Speaker 3: badly that I didn't even really know who I was.
- 22:34Speaker 3: And I had to do a lot of soul searching,
- 22:36Speaker 3: a lot of laying things down and just getting before
- 22:41Speaker 3: the Lord. You know, who am I? What did you
- 22:43Speaker 3: create me? What did you create me to be and
- 22:45Speaker 3: to do? First, it's the daughter of a king, you know,
- 22:48Speaker 3: receiving his love. I think is so hard for people
- 22:51Speaker 3: to receive unconditional love from a father. You know, it's
- 22:57Speaker 3: because we're not really at this side of heaven.
- 23:01Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, it is. I mean it's unconditional love. But
- 23:06Speaker 2: the blessings are very conditional, just like your parents. I mean,
- 23:09Speaker 2: they love you because you're you know, you're theirs. But
- 23:13Speaker 2: going to the movies on Friday night is conditional based
- 23:17Speaker 2: on your behavior this week, you know, being in time
- 23:19Speaker 2: out or the blessings all through scripture. If you do this,
- 23:23Speaker 2: then I'll do that. So God's requiring you to do
- 23:26Speaker 2: your part and be obedient. That's why again back to
- 23:29Speaker 2: the commandments, their commandments, because there will be will will
- 23:33Speaker 2: be tempted to commit adultery, will be tempted to lie,
- 23:36Speaker 2: It will even be tempted to murder somebody innocent blood.
- 23:39Speaker 2: There's a difference from killing. It's not thous will not kill.
- 23:42Speaker 2: It's actually translated thus not murder, which is innocent blood.
- 23:46Speaker 2: Ecclesiastes three says there actually is a time to kill
- 23:49Speaker 2: and a time to heal, a time for war, a
- 23:51Speaker 2: time for peace. So a lot of people have a
- 23:53Speaker 2: hard time wrestling with all that too, with their mental
- 23:56Speaker 2: health matters. But somebody breaks into your house and they're
- 23:59Speaker 2: threatening a house, jack you and hurt your family. Is
- 24:03Speaker 2: so so almost expected to protect your life and protect
- 24:07Speaker 2: your family's life and do it. You need to take
- 24:09Speaker 2: yourself to protect yourself from that evil person, is right
- 24:14Speaker 2: if you feel you know. So that's a whole other topic.
- 24:16Speaker 2: But these are things that we need to think about
- 24:19Speaker 2: and process and purpose what you are. And that's what
- 24:22Speaker 2: we call doctrine and Christianity. There's a lot in scripture
- 24:26Speaker 2: we can hear the heart of God and how he
- 24:28Speaker 2: feels about various topics and issues. And that's why you
- 24:30Speaker 2: have to show the Christian view. God sees everything and
- 24:34Speaker 2: he has an opinion on everything right, and we sometimes
- 24:38Speaker 2: think we're smarter than God. Do you want to talk
- 24:40Speaker 2: about that?
- 24:42Speaker 3: No, we are not smarter than God.
- 24:45Speaker 2: There that's the fool in his heart that says there
- 24:49Speaker 2: is no God. I don't need a God.
- 24:51Speaker 3: Yeah, we fool ourselves and we if we think we
- 24:54Speaker 3: are ever smarter than God. He knows the beginning from
- 24:56Speaker 3: the end. Nothing catches him by surprise, and I think
- 25:00Speaker 3: get just you know, some people say, well, I just
- 25:02Speaker 3: don't understand God. I just don't. And I'm like, I
- 25:06Speaker 3: don't think we're called to understand him because most of
- 25:09Speaker 3: the time we won't understand him this side of heaven.
- 25:11Speaker 3: But we're called to be obedient and we're called to
- 25:15Speaker 3: trust him.
- 25:16Speaker 2: You know.
- 25:16Speaker 3: It's like blind faith, but it's you know, we have
- 25:19Speaker 3: to learn. Like the footprints in the sand, right, you're
- 25:22Speaker 3: walking along, but there are two sets of footprints. Is
- 25:25Speaker 3: because he's carrying us if we if we let him,
- 25:28Speaker 3: you know, he will come in and take care of us.
- 25:33Speaker 2: Yeah. Amen, Well you're amazing, and I'm glad we're doing
- 25:37Speaker 2: these shows talking about these things, letting other people listen
- 25:40Speaker 2: in check out Judy Simmons dot com. She has a
- 25:43Speaker 2: podcast on Spotify, Google Podcasts, Apple Podcasts, as well as
- 25:47Speaker 2: the television show The Christian View. It's on our platform
- 25:51Speaker 2: many others as well. In Atlanta, Hotlanta. It's getting there.
- 25:55Speaker 2: We're spring is in the air, and you know, super
- 25:59Speaker 2: excited that we're able to have platforms like just to
- 26:02Speaker 2: talk about stuff. Some of our partners, Covenant Eyes, if
- 26:06Speaker 2: people are having a hard time with things that they're
- 26:08Speaker 2: looking at, which will also affect what you're thinking and
- 26:11Speaker 2: what you're the pride of life, the lust of the flesh,
- 26:14Speaker 2: the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life,
- 26:17Speaker 2: or the three root issues that everything kind of all
- 26:20Speaker 2: these sinful behaviors stem from. And those are the three
- 26:24Speaker 2: temptations that actually Jesus dealt with after forty days, forty nights,
- 26:27Speaker 2: not eating that drink and being tempted by the devil
- 26:30Speaker 2: in the wilderness, led by the Holy Spirit to do that,
- 26:33Speaker 2: by the way, God led him into the wilderness to
- 26:35Speaker 2: be tempted, and he had to come back for all
- 26:37Speaker 2: three of those temptations. And it was all about being
- 26:40Speaker 2: obedient to God, worshiping God alone. Don't tempt the Lord
- 26:44Speaker 2: your God. Right. It is written. It is written so
- 26:47Speaker 2: final thoughts before we close in prayer.
- 26:49Speaker 3: You know, I just think, remember that God is faithful
- 26:53Speaker 3: and that he does have grace for us, pastor Chuck.
- 26:58Speaker 3: And when we mess up, remember to fall forward and
- 27:01Speaker 3: not backwards, because as we fall forward, we learn and
- 27:04Speaker 3: we grow and we get stronger. But make sure you
- 27:07Speaker 3: keep in an audience of one because as we fall forward,
- 27:09Speaker 3: you want to be looking at his face for grace.
- 27:13Speaker 2: Yeah, that's amazing, looking in his face for grace. Amazing.
- 27:17Speaker 2: Lead us in prayer. Ladies.
- 27:18Speaker 3: First, all right, Father God, I just thank you that
- 27:21Speaker 3: you are King of kings and Lord of lords. You
- 27:22Speaker 3: are the great I am. I thank you that your
- 27:24Speaker 3: word never returns. For Lord, I pray for everyone listening
- 27:27Speaker 3: today that they will feel your presence, your love, your peace,
- 27:30Speaker 3: and your grace, and yes they will take every thought
- 27:32Speaker 3: captive to the obedience of Christ in Jesus' name. Amen.
- 27:36Speaker 2: And to thank you Lord for time with Trudy. Thank
- 27:38Speaker 2: you for your word and the scriptures that we get
- 27:40Speaker 2: to go through. And how we don't script these shows.
- 27:42Speaker 2: We just feel led by the Holy Spirit to talk
- 27:44Speaker 2: about these principles, bringing your word and we know that
- 27:47Speaker 2: You're working in and through the words that are in
- 27:50Speaker 2: the air because you love everyone so much right where
- 27:52Speaker 2: they're at, and you're trying to lead them to be
- 27:54Speaker 2: closer to you and to be more like you. Maybe
- 27:56Speaker 2: submit surrender to every area of our life to your lordship.
- 28:00Speaker 2: Thinking about that verse in Luke when he said, why
- 28:02Speaker 2: do you call me lord Lord? Yet you don't do
- 28:04Speaker 2: what I tell you to do? So I pray God
- 28:07Speaker 2: that we would become more obedient Christians in every area
- 28:10Speaker 2: of our lives to bring you glory. Also be used
- 28:12Speaker 2: to you to bring in a harvest of those who
- 28:15Speaker 2: have not yet met you, to bring them into the kingdom,
- 28:17Speaker 2: to introduce them to a living Jesus who died and
- 28:20Speaker 2: rose again, who wants a relationship with them. So use us, Lord,
- 28:23Speaker 2: and use all this in Jesus name for your glory.
