• 1:27
Speaker 5: or so in the Canal Valley this morning. Man, what
• 1:29
Speaker 5: there was some serious lightning out there when I was
• 1:31
Speaker 5: driving in this morning. Metro News meteorologist Brian Hughes is
• 1:34
Speaker 5: going to join me later in the show, says we
• 1:37
Speaker 5: got the rain and storms continuing off and on throughout
• 1:39
Speaker 5: the day, at least till around maybe two or three
• 1:41
Speaker 5: or so this same afternoon. High winds, heavy rain at
• 1:44
Speaker 5: times of possibility should top out with the temperature on
• 1:46
Speaker 5: your thermometer around eighty six to eighty eight, but feeling
• 1:49
Speaker 5: warmer than that with a heat index. Now the rain
• 1:51
Speaker 5: is going to come to an end tonight. It's gonna
• 1:53
Speaker 5: be quite foggy overnight tonight, and for your driving tomorrow,
• 1:56
Speaker 5: low's in the mid sixties Tomorrow Thursday looking great highs
• 1:59
Speaker 5: in the upper seventies eighties. We're being back up on Friday,
• 2:02
Speaker 5: but looking like no rain. Whether the final Live on
• 2:05
Speaker 5: the Levee for this season should be in the mid eighties.
• 2:08
Speaker 5: Storms may pop up Saturday evening, but more likely on Sunday.
• 2:11
Speaker 5: You can download the Metro News television after Brian and
• 2:13
Speaker 5: his team of meteorologist and follow it along on social
• 2:16
Speaker 5: media as well. And as I said, Brian is going
• 2:17
Speaker 5: to join me later in the show. Several things in
• 2:19
Speaker 5: the news to get to. We'll get to all those later.
• 2:21
Speaker 5: Right now, I want to welcome to the show the
• 2:23
Speaker 5: chief of Police for the City of Charles's skuy Dempsey.
• 2:25
Speaker 5: Chief Dempsey, good morning, Welcome to the show.
• 2:27
Speaker 6: Good morning, Dave. How are you.
• 2:28
Speaker 5: I'm doing fine, Thank you for being here. You have
• 2:30
Speaker 5: a ceremony and it's swearing in chief coming up later
• 2:34
Speaker 5: this morning. I think it's ten o'clock this morning. What
• 2:36
Speaker 5: I think is the biggest class of officers since was
• 2:40
Speaker 5: the two thousand and five.
• 2:41
Speaker 6: That is correct, in two thousand and five, I think
• 2:43
Speaker 6: it was right around fifteen at the time, I believe.
• 2:47
Speaker 6: And in twenty twenty four we actually swore out eleven,
• 2:51
Speaker 6: which if we had outed, hey this is the largest
• 2:53
Speaker 6: class in s then one. Now we can easily say
• 2:56
Speaker 6: in the twenty twenty six this will be the largest
• 2:58
Speaker 6: class since two thousand five. And we are very proud
• 3:01
  Speaker 6: of that.
• 3:01
Speaker 5: And this is going to be swear and it's going
• 3:03
Speaker 5: to happen at ten this morning day this right, this morning,
• 3:05
Speaker 5: City Council show. I promised i'd get you out of
• 3:07
Speaker 5: here in time for that, because nothing would send a
• 3:09
Speaker 5: you know, a worse sign than the chief being late,
• 3:12
Speaker 5: you know, for his own ceremony.
• 3:13
Speaker 6: Right, that may not vode very well from mayor. Yes,
• 3:16
Speaker 6: so I appreciate that, sir.
• 3:17
Speaker 5: At at ten am this morning, that's when those will
• 3:19
Speaker 5: be those new officers will be sworning. How do you
• 3:22
Speaker 5: go about recruiting officers? What's the general protocol?
• 3:24
Speaker 6: Our best recruiting tool as our officers talking to young
• 3:29
Speaker 6: men and women out here who express an interest or
• 3:31
Speaker 6: maybe they think would make a good candidate. So word
• 3:34
Speaker 6: of mouth is by far our best recruiting tool because
• 3:37
Speaker 6: if you can hear it from the word or from
• 3:39
Speaker 6: the actual officer, Hey, this is what we can offer you.
• 3:42
Speaker 6: This is what you can do at Charleston p d
• 3:44
Speaker 6: if you want to be a police officer, it's absolutely
• 3:47
Speaker 6: the best experience you can get. And besides that, social media,
• 3:51
Speaker 6: we are very heavy on social media, Sergeant Bell's it
• 3:54
Speaker 6: does a great job spreading our message and letting people
• 3:59
Speaker 6: know when we're giving a teen and what we can
• 4:01
Speaker 6: offer them. And so were we really hit it pretty hard.
• 4:06
Speaker 6: What makes a good police officer? In your opinion, Integrity
• 4:09
Speaker 6: by all means we want someone who has integrity, We
• 4:13
Speaker 6: want someone who has compassion, and we want someone who
• 4:16
Speaker 6: is dedicated. If you can follow those three simple characteristics,
• 4:21
Speaker 6: you're going to make a good candidate.
• 4:23
Speaker 5: And you know, policing in the largest city in West Virginia,
• 4:25
Speaker 5: in the capital city a little bit different than what
• 4:27
Speaker 5: it is in individual towns. You're not as likely to
• 4:30
Speaker 5: know the people. But sometimes you have repeat offenders that
• 4:32
Speaker 5: you do know. Okay, Bill, you know you need to
• 4:34
  Speaker 5: go somewhere else.
• 4:34
Speaker 7: You have a lot of that.
• 4:35
Speaker 5: I completely understand that. But I guess this is by
• 4:38
Speaker 5: most people's standards. I mean, you know, a pretty attractive job.
• 4:42
Speaker 7: I would think it is.
• 4:44
Speaker 6: You know, when I first signed up, there were nearly
• 4:47
Speaker 6: seven hundred applicants. Of course, that was back in the
• 4:51
Speaker 6: nineteen late nineteen nineties, and it was almost like a Cadillac.
• 4:56
Speaker 6: You didn't have to sell Charleston PD, you know. But
• 4:58
Speaker 6: now with of course, times are changing. We're in a
• 5:02
Speaker 6: new different time. Young men and women are seeking different careers,
• 5:06
Speaker 6: and you know, vocational and trade those vocations are really
• 5:11
Speaker 6: up those careers. So we've got to be really strong
• 5:15
Speaker 6: in our recruiting to we're having a smaller applicant pool
• 5:19
Speaker 6: and we have to I don't want to say we
• 5:21
Speaker 6: compete against other departments, but they're looking for the same applicants.
• 5:24
Speaker 6: So it's difficult. But you know, the city of Charleston
• 5:28
Speaker 6: is unique. We were fairly busy, so our officers get
• 5:34
Speaker 6: any kind of experience you could ever think of as
• 5:36
Speaker 6: a police officer. I always kind of tut that within
• 5:39
Speaker 6: one year a Charleston Police officer will do way more
• 5:42
Speaker 6: than probably any other officer in the state of West Virginia.
• 5:45
Speaker 6: So we tut that pretty good. And with that experience
• 5:50
Speaker 6: comes building your resume. So when you retire from Charleston PD,
• 5:55
Speaker 6: we have many retirees have become a sheriff, a chief
• 5:58
Speaker 6: of police somewhere else, working with the federal system, with
• 6:02
Speaker 6: the US Attorney's office, with federal prosecutors, with FBI, atf
• 6:07
Speaker 6: you name it. So we have a pretty good record
• 6:10
Speaker 6: of When you work here, you develop that experience and
• 6:13
Speaker 6: that knowledge to move on to different things when you
• 6:16
  Speaker 6: retire from here.
• 6:17
Speaker 5: There are so many different jobs available within a police
• 6:21
Speaker 5: department too. I mean it's not all I mean they
• 6:23
Speaker 5: it all is based around that basic officer on the
• 6:26
Speaker 5: street or officer in the car, but there's so many
• 6:27
Speaker 5: other jobs within the police department, and you're asked to
• 6:30
  Speaker 5: do so much.
• 6:31
Speaker 6: You're correct, So every officer starts out being a patrol
• 6:34
Speaker 6: officer is what we call it. Every officer, every officer,
• 6:36
Speaker 6: So you start out answering number one one calls, You
• 6:39
Speaker 6: build your reputation with supervisors, you learn, you get that experience,
• 6:45
Speaker 6: and then after two years you can advance to be
• 6:47
Speaker 6: a detective, a traffic officer, an undercover officer, school resource.
• 6:51
Speaker 6: You know, as long as those openings are there, you
• 6:53
Speaker 6: can put in for it, and you know, if you
• 6:56
Speaker 6: work hard and you're dedicated to the job and have
• 6:59
  Speaker 6: a really good knowledge, then there's a good chance you're
• 7:01
Speaker 6: going to move on.
• 7:02
Speaker 5: Roughly, how many officers do you have right now?
• 7:05
Speaker 6: We're about one hundred and fifty two.
• 7:07
Speaker 5: And what do you need in your opinion two hundred
• 7:10
Speaker 5: and fifty two? No, I mean, like absolutely, what's an
• 7:13
  Speaker 5: optimal number?
• 7:15
Speaker 7: Where do you like to be?
• 7:16
Speaker 6: So right now, we're moving along pretty good with the
• 7:19
Speaker 6: numbers we have. We're a lot of for one seventy three,
• 7:21
Speaker 6: So believe me, I would love to be at one
• 7:23
Speaker 6: hundred and seventy three right now. But with us being
• 7:28
Speaker 6: slightly short, it presents a few challenges, but it's nothing
• 7:31
Speaker 6: that we can't get through. The city is completely safe.
• 7:33
Speaker 6: We cover the city no matter what emergency situation it
• 7:37
Speaker 6: is or not emergency situation, so we're well equipped. But
• 7:40
Speaker 6: having more officers allows us to spread out more officers
• 7:44
Speaker 6: in different units and that helps keep the efficiency going.
• 7:48
Speaker 6: It helps us to monitor crime better and just the
• 7:53
Speaker 6: overall approach to law enforcement makes it a little bit easier.
• 7:56
Speaker 6: So that's why our recruiting push is so hard.
• 7:58
Speaker 5: Right now, what are the requirements for a police officer?
• 8:01
Speaker 5: I mean, when somebody wants to come in they want
• 8:03
Speaker 5: to be a police officer, I mean, are you at
• 8:05
Speaker 5: liberty to say like, okay, this is a list, this
• 8:08
Speaker 5: is what you have to be able to do. I
• 8:09
Speaker 5: know you talked about integrity, but I'm talking about the
• 8:11
  Speaker 5: actual physical aspects.
• 8:13
Speaker 6: So physical aspect, of course, you have to be a
• 8:15
Speaker 6: graduate from a high school or a ged and just
• 8:20
Speaker 6: have to have an ID show up to a test.
• 8:22
Speaker 6: That's basically it. You have to pass a physical test
• 8:27
Speaker 6: right off the bat, and you have to pass a
• 8:28
Speaker 6: written test, and we have a few options available. If
• 8:32
Speaker 6: you fail that, we have a few options to kind
• 8:33
Speaker 6: of help guide you along to get you to pass.
• 8:36
Speaker 6: So it's not a one all bill. You have a
• 8:39
Speaker 6: couple of chances to come back and do a little better.
• 8:42
Speaker 6: Sometimes people just have a bad day and they can't
• 8:44
Speaker 6: do the required pushups.
• 8:45
Speaker 7: Yeah, so we're a little bit.
• 8:47
Speaker 6: Lean in with that. We like we actually help instead
• 8:50
Speaker 6: of just cast them aside. We actually want to push
• 8:52
Speaker 6: you and if that person is dedicated enough to come back,
• 8:55
Speaker 6: then that actually tells us Okay, this person may be
• 8:58
Speaker 6: a good police officer. They have a lot of drive
• 9:00
Speaker 6: and they want to be strong and we will definitely
• 9:04
  Speaker 6: want them.
• 9:04
Speaker 5: Is there an age minimum and an age maximum to
• 9:07
Speaker 5: apply to be able?
• 9:08
Speaker 6: These host eighteen years old and the maximum has changed
• 9:12
Speaker 6: a little bit. It used to be forty, but I
• 9:14
Speaker 6: think it's went up now to about forty two, I believe,
• 9:18
Speaker 6: and that deals with this the retirement system and things
• 9:21
  Speaker 6: like that.
• 9:22
Speaker 7: And that's for a first time officer, right right, Yeah.
• 9:24
Speaker 6: That is correct. Now we will hire certified officers. We
• 9:28
Speaker 6: love to hire certified officers because we don't have to
• 9:31
Speaker 6: send them off to the academy. They're road ready almost immediately.
• 9:34
Speaker 6: They still have to go through the training program that
• 9:37
Speaker 6: we have. But yes, we also have a certified hiring
• 9:42
Speaker 6: bonus for guys who have already been through that training.
• 9:45
Speaker 6: And it's fifteen thousand dollars.
• 9:48
Speaker 5: Okay, and that's for certified officer. That's a signing bonus
• 9:52
  Speaker 5: for certified officers.
• 9:52
Speaker 6: Yes, and you're a certified in the state of West
• 9:54
Speaker 6: Virginia or a state that is recognized by GIA, Yeah,
• 9:58
Speaker 6: then we can give you that on bonus and get
• 10:01
Speaker 6: you roaded ready pretty quick.
• 10:03
Speaker 5: Talking to Scott Depseygain, chief of police here in the
• 10:05
Speaker 5: city of Charleston of a Dave Allen show on five
• 10:06
Speaker 5: Edy Line brought you a part by the all New
• 10:08
Speaker 5: Generations for the Hurrican visit generations.
• 10:10
Speaker 7: Ford dot com. So how long have you been an officer?
• 10:14
  Speaker 8: Chief?
• 10:14
  Speaker 6: Twenty five years?
• 10:15
Speaker 7: Twenty five years. What have you seen change in this
• 10:17
Speaker 7: twenty four more? Where do we start?
• 10:19
Speaker 6: Where do you see? You know, policing in general is
• 10:21
Speaker 6: about the same. It's on how you talk to people.
• 10:24
Speaker 6: It's on how you treat people. I've always remembered this
• 10:27
Speaker 6: that people remember how you treat them. It's not what
• 10:31
Speaker 6: you did, It's not how you did, it's just the
• 10:34
Speaker 6: way you treated them, the way you showed compassion to
• 10:36
Speaker 6: them during a difficult time or even arresting.
• 10:39
  Speaker 1: Then.
• 10:40
Speaker 6: I've had many people that I've arrested over the years
• 10:43
Speaker 6: that still come to me today, Hey man, how you doing?
• 10:46
Speaker 6: You remember me and you treated me good?
• 10:48
Speaker 5: So in some cases it may be the best thing
• 10:50
Speaker 5: that ever happened to.
• 10:51
Speaker 6: Them, That is correct. I've had guys tell me that too,
• 10:54
Speaker 6: So yeah, that's nothing really has changed at the basic
• 10:58
Speaker 6: law enforcement. But now technology, my goodness, technology is when
• 11:01
Speaker 6: leaps and bound since I've been here, and it's it's
• 11:03
Speaker 6: hard for an old guy like me to keep up
• 11:05
Speaker 6: with self adventlaly aamlia.
• 11:08
Speaker 5: So what does the nowhere on radio right now? But
• 11:11
Speaker 5: the squad cars? I mean, what do they actually look
• 11:14
Speaker 5: like now? Because this is not this is not what
• 11:15
Speaker 5: you see in Mayberry. You know this is I mean,
• 11:17
Speaker 5: it's like basically a mini computer lab.
• 11:20
Speaker 6: Yes, yeah, there is technology all over that police car.
• 11:24
Speaker 6: You know. We have computers that the officers can can
• 11:27
Speaker 6: get instant calls from Metro Communications. They can run license plates,
• 11:33
Speaker 6: license driver's license, and we've got the camera systems and
• 11:39
Speaker 6: we've got just a lot of technology that in my day,
• 11:43
Speaker 6: it wasn't around when I when I first was hired,
• 11:46
Speaker 6: so uh, but that helps us. Those are great tools
• 11:49
Speaker 6: for law enforcement officers because you can get instant access
• 11:52
Speaker 6: and that's what's important now. A lot of young folks
• 11:55
Speaker 6: coming up now, they were raised on cell phones and technology,
• 11:57
Speaker 6: so giving them instant access for obviously legitimate law enforcement purposes,
• 12:04
Speaker 6: then that just helps them solve crime and helps them
• 12:07
Speaker 6: prevent crime. And that's what we want.
• 12:08
Speaker 5: And you've got a new recruitment video, I understand coming
• 12:11
  Speaker 5: out right.
• 12:12
Speaker 6: Absolutely, we are very excited about this. I know when
• 12:15
Speaker 6: I took over in twenty twenty three, my deputy Chief
• 12:17
Speaker 6: and Deputy Chief Web that was a goal of ours immediately.
• 12:20
Speaker 6: We wanted to get this recruiting video to attract young
• 12:24
Speaker 6: men and women. They're they're visual now, right, They see
• 12:28
Speaker 6: the phones they doom scroll all the time, and so
• 12:31
Speaker 6: to get a video out for them to kind of
• 12:33
Speaker 6: showcase our talents and what we do with the community
• 12:36
Speaker 6: and what we can offer them is vitally important. So
• 12:40
Speaker 6: we're very excited to get this.
• 12:43
Speaker 7: Video you do and unveil that Today.
• 12:44
Speaker 6: We are going to invelidate a swearing and it'll be
• 12:47
Speaker 6: on social media later on. We'll post it on social
• 12:50
Speaker 6: media for everybody to see. Obviously we're using as a
• 12:52
Speaker 6: recruiting tool. And you know, the folks that I assigned
• 12:56
Speaker 6: to that task at a great job. It was Captain
• 12:58
Speaker 6: Web and Sergeant Bell's at a terrific job getting this together.
• 13:02
Speaker 6: I'm very proud of the video and the content. I
• 13:05
Speaker 6: think people will enjoy it.
• 13:07
Speaker 5: How well, what's your relationship with the Charleston Police Department
• 13:11
Speaker 5: like with the other departments in the area. I know
• 13:12
Speaker 5: everybody's got to work together, but sometimes there can be
• 13:14
  Speaker 5: a little bit of a rivalry because you're you're you're
• 13:17
Speaker 5: all competing, you know, for the candidates. As you said,
• 13:21
Speaker 5: you were about to swear in the largest class you've
• 13:23
Speaker 5: had since two thousand and five. But I know the
• 13:25
Speaker 5: other departments are because they may be low one man
• 13:28
Speaker 5: power too. There they're looking at you guys, or they're
• 13:30
Speaker 5: looking at each other saying, hey, we might want you
• 13:34
Speaker 5: to come to this city, you may want you to
• 13:35
Speaker 5: come to this department or whatever.
• 13:37
Speaker 7: How what's your relationship like with the others?
• 13:38
Speaker 6: Well, that is you're correct and your assumption, that's exactly
• 13:41
Speaker 6: what we do now. Fortunately, I'm really good friends with
• 13:44
Speaker 6: not only just most police officers, but the chiefs and
• 13:47
Speaker 6: the sheriffs are in our area. And of course we
• 13:50
Speaker 6: joke and we joke with each other a lot. We
• 13:52
Speaker 6: kind of rise each other when it comes to things
• 13:54
Speaker 6: like this. But you know, I've been asked by several
• 13:58
Speaker 6: different chiefs, not only in this area but throughout the state,
• 14:01
Speaker 6: what is your secret? What are you doing? And of
• 14:04
Speaker 6: course I'm not going to tell him my secrets. Right.
• 14:06
Speaker 6: It's magic and in all seriousness, it's just treating people
• 14:11
Speaker 6: like you'd want to be treated, showing them what you're
• 14:14
Speaker 6: capable of, showing them what you can offer them, and
• 14:17
Speaker 6: just being nice to them. Say hey, come and see us,
• 14:19
Speaker 6: come talk to us, see what we can offer you.
• 14:21
Speaker 5: Talk about the couple of weeks ago with because you
• 14:24
Speaker 5: had Regatta going on down the street, with the America
• 14:27
Speaker 5: two fifty celebration of the Capitol and I know the
• 14:29
Speaker 5: State Police were involved in that, Sheriff's department. I mean,
• 14:31
Speaker 5: this was a cooperative effort of everybody, and as far
• 14:35
Speaker 5: as I know, everything went off without a hitch.
• 14:38
Speaker 6: Everything went as good as what we could have hoped for. Yes,
• 14:41
Speaker 6: we had, I believe, just want arrest at regatta and
• 14:45
Speaker 6: that was handled very accordingly without incident.
• 14:49
Speaker 5: Was it one of our people? Just let me tell
• 14:51
Speaker 5: me what was what? Steve Animal, Yeah, I figured it was.
• 14:54
Speaker 6: I have to admit it, you know, I didn't want
• 14:56
Speaker 6: to say it on the air, but sorry, sorry Steve.
• 14:58
Speaker 7: Yeah, it wasn't no Joe, of course, but yeah.
• 15:01
Speaker 6: Just one one incident most most honestly was just heat
• 15:05
Speaker 6: related things that we helple out with. And uh but yeah,
• 15:09
Speaker 6: we've got a great relationship with the State Police and
• 15:12
Speaker 6: the Capital PD for those situations. You have to to
• 15:16
  Speaker 6: have that amount.
• 15:17
Speaker 7: That was a big ask.
• 15:18
Speaker 5: I mean with all those people that were in Charleston,
• 15:21
Speaker 5: especially the night you had Alabama playing, you had Bobby
• 15:23
Speaker 5: Brown playing, I mean it was a and plus it
• 15:27
Speaker 5: was one hundred and eighty eight degrees outside of it
• 15:29
Speaker 5: something like that, So that was a that was a
• 15:31
Speaker 5: really big ask of all of the agencies involved.
• 15:33
Speaker 6: Right, and it went. I couldn't have asked for a
• 15:36
Speaker 6: better situation than what didn't happen. But you know, it's you.
• 15:41
Speaker 6: A lot of times we kind of joke that you
• 15:43
Speaker 6: don't pay us for what we're doing, you pay us
• 15:45
Speaker 6: for what we could be doing. And thank goodness, we
• 15:48
Speaker 6: we Some of our officers were bored, quite honestly. They
• 15:51
Speaker 6: they walked around at My goal was every time you
• 15:55
Speaker 6: take about twenty steps thirty forty yards, you're going to
• 16:00
Speaker 6: say a police officer.
• 16:01
Speaker 7: That was my pot. You saw them that weren't necessarily
• 16:03
  Speaker 7: in uniform too.
• 16:04
  Speaker 6: Right, that's correct?
• 16:05
Speaker 7: Yeah, yeah, I got to absolutely one.
• 16:07
Speaker 6: Yeah, we have a variety of operations to help keep
• 16:10
Speaker 6: everybody safe. And I go on in, I think we
• 16:12
Speaker 6: did a pretty good job before.
• 16:13
Speaker 7: We let you go.
• 16:14
Speaker 5: What's your final recruiting because I know you said that
• 16:17
Speaker 5: you're allotted for one hundred and seventy three and you're
• 16:19
Speaker 5: about to swear in at ten o'clock and we get
• 16:21
Speaker 5: you out of here, but I know you're you're swearing
• 16:23
Speaker 5: in another twelve officers at ten o'clock this morning to
• 16:26
Speaker 5: anybody that's listening right now that's thinking, well, you know,
• 16:30
Speaker 5: I might like to do this, or my son or daughter,
• 16:32
Speaker 5: granddaughter might like to consider a law enforcement what's that

Speaker 6: you know, we offer great benefits and again, just that

Speaker 10: isn't really speeding, but even a few miles over the

Speaker 10: offense could cost you one hundred dollars plus court costs,
• 20:07
Speaker 10: and you'll pay a lot more if it's your second

Speaker 5: started getting very lightheaded and shaking. I thought it was
• 21:35
Speaker 5: the heat. Turns out she hadn't eaten all day, so

Speaker 5: get the message. Metro News meteorologist Brian Hughes is here,
• 21:52
Speaker 5: Hey doing man, Well.
• 21:54
Speaker 2: Let's see here this morning, I was woking up quite
• 21:56
Speaker 2: nicely by some of the flash flow warnings which we
• 21:59
Speaker 2: knew were coming, uh, you know for parts of the region.
• 22:02
  Speaker 4: Uh.
• 22:02
Speaker 2: Of course those were in cable and out across portions
• 22:06
Speaker 2: of let's see cable Lawrence County into Ohio, Meg's Jackson,
• 22:11
Speaker 2: things of that nature. But you know, the tornado warnings,
• 22:15
Speaker 2: we're a surprise this morning. Now, the the signatures went
• 22:19
Speaker 2: off at the National Weather Service said this could be
• 22:22
Speaker 2: a tornado here. I would have personally not issued the
• 22:24
Speaker 2: tornado warning. But that's just me. But it was a
• 22:28
Speaker 2: it was a very close call. We do know there
• 22:29
Speaker 2: was a wind damage.
• 22:30
Speaker 7: It was happening, and where was this premier?
• 22:32
Speaker 2: This is primarily the majority of it was actually over
• 22:35
Speaker 2: in the Martin County side of things, Kentucky, Yeah, southern
• 22:38
Speaker 2: Lawrence into sections of Martin County and then uh then
• 22:42
Speaker 2: they continued to tornado warning from Martin all the way
• 22:44
Speaker 2: down to the Pike and then you had Wayne, portions
• 22:47
Speaker 2: of Logan, Lincoln, Mingo Counties. I mean, so that was
• 22:52
Speaker 2: that was the awakening we had this morning.
• 22:53
Speaker 5: I'll tell you one thing. There was lightning there, there
• 22:55
Speaker 5: was some lightning. I left the house a little bit
• 22:57
Speaker 5: early this morning because normally I leave around like six
• 23:00
Speaker 5: thirty or so in the morning. But I thought, well,
• 23:02
Speaker 5: with the storm coming, I'm gonna go ahead and hit
• 23:03
Speaker 5: because I don't want to be on ice sixty four. Really,
• 23:06
Speaker 5: I just don't want to be on I sixty four,
• 23:07
Speaker 5: to be honest with you, but I don't want to
• 23:08
Speaker 5: be on ice sixty four when it's coming to big storm.
• 23:10
Speaker 5: So I thought I was just couldn't leave the house early.
• 23:12
Speaker 5: And there was no rain, but man, about six six
• 23:15
Speaker 5: ten or so this morning, the entire and it was
• 23:17
Speaker 5: pitch black dark. The entire sky was lit up. I
• 23:21
Speaker 5: mean with the lightning.
• 23:22
Speaker 2: I mean it was incredible tons And I'll tell you this,
• 23:26
Speaker 2: back across parts of Ohio, the clotta ground lightning fights
• 23:29
Speaker 2: were so much more than what they even were in
• 23:31
Speaker 2: West Virginia. So you know, we had that going for us.
• 23:34
Speaker 2: Those storms are still moving south, the bulk of them are,
• 23:39
Speaker 2: but then we've also got more than it's going to
• 23:41
Speaker 2: develop this afternoon. Now, we do have some chowers and
• 23:43
Speaker 2: storms that are across We've got some of them in
• 23:45
Speaker 2: Lincoln County back into Boone County, and it is some
• 23:49
Speaker 2: of the eastern Kadan County. Very light sprinkles in northern
• 23:51
Speaker 2: Kadon County. But as we go into this afternoon, I
• 23:54
Speaker 2: think somewhere between noon and probably two three o'clock has
• 23:57
Speaker 2: storm going to see some more thunderstorms fire back up
• 24:00
Speaker 2: for the afternoon. They'll move off to the southeast, so
• 24:03
Speaker 2: they'll kick out of here, but we know they may
• 24:06
Speaker 2: even last even into four or five o'clock in some
• 24:09
Speaker 2: areas closer to the Charleston areas, so we have to
• 24:12
Speaker 2: keep our eyes on that. But those are not going
• 24:15
Speaker 2: to be anything significant. In other words, we're not looking
• 24:18
Speaker 2: at what we had all that heavy rain that we
• 24:20
Speaker 2: had this morning, But we still have to be mindful
• 24:22
Speaker 2: of what rain fell this morning where it fell. In fact,
• 24:25
Speaker 2: eastern Kanak County. That could be an easy spot to
• 24:28
Speaker 2: trigger a new flash flood warning later on today if
• 24:31
Speaker 2: we get a storm that dumps pretty good and moves
• 24:33
  Speaker 2: across that area.
• 24:34
Speaker 5: Talking to Jam with Metro News mediaorologist Brian Hugh's a
• 24:36
Speaker 5: Dave Island Show in five D line brought to you
• 24:38
Speaker 5: in part by Huston's Pizza. This month, by any regularly
• 24:41
Speaker 5: priced large eighteen inch pizza and get a two liter
• 24:43
Speaker 5: bottle of any Pepsi product for free, find your nearest
• 24:46
Speaker 5: Huston's Pizza for the livery pick up, or dine in
• 24:48
Speaker 5: at Huston'spizza dot com. So over the next couple of hours,
• 24:52
Speaker 5: you're saying that we could I mean again, when you
• 24:54
Speaker 5: see these thunderstorms that just roll in and they just
• 24:56
Speaker 5: kind of park over one area, we've got to at
• 24:58
Speaker 5: least keep that in the back of our mind that
• 25:00
Speaker 5: it could happen here in Kannawalk County.
• 25:01
Speaker 2: Right, That's what we have to look at, specifically in
• 25:03
Speaker 2: eastern Ganalon County. That's where we saw some of the
• 25:05
Speaker 2: heaviest rainfall this morning. Matter fact, we saw about an
• 25:08
Speaker 2: inch and a half across parts of eastern Ganonal County.
• 25:11
Speaker 2: We were up to the two inch two inch territory
• 25:14
Speaker 2: one and a half to two that's when we I
• 25:16
Speaker 2: was expecting in flash flow warning, but the Nash Well
• 25:20
Speaker 2: Nash Weather Service did not issue it, and rightfully so,
• 25:23
Speaker 2: because it was just below the threshold. Because we have
• 25:26
Speaker 2: thresholds that are that are on a sliding scale, depending
• 25:28
Speaker 2: on how wet the ground is, things that nature, soil,
• 25:31
Speaker 2: moisture content, all sorts of things. But generally we look
• 25:35
Speaker 2: at three hour flash flood guidance and we go, okay,
• 25:39
Speaker 2: we can handle two two and a half inches where
• 25:42
Speaker 2: of rain within this three hour time period. If it's
• 25:45
Speaker 2: more than that, well we probably have to issue at
• 25:46
  Speaker 2: flash flow warning.
• 25:47
Speaker 5: But now after this, once we get through today, we
• 25:51
Speaker 5: got some pretty nice weather days coming up.
• 25:52
  Speaker 7: Lower humidity.
• 25:53
Speaker 5: It's gonna be real comfortable, real nice, what you tell
• 25:55
Speaker 5: me Wednesday, pretty much.
• 25:57
Speaker 2: Th Friday, Right Listen, once a front moves through the afternoon,
• 26:00
Speaker 2: that win is gonna switch from the southwest to the northwest.
• 26:02
Speaker 2: It's gonna feel nice. You're gonna see that, right, feel
• 26:05
Speaker 2: the dry humidity moving in. And then as we head
• 26:07
Speaker 2: in to tomorrow, Yeah, we're gonna have some fog in
• 26:08
Speaker 2: the morning because of all the rain we've had today
• 26:10
Speaker 2: and into the sea into late this afternoon this evening,
• 26:13
Speaker 2: but we're gonna get rid of that for the afternoon.
• 26:15
Speaker 2: It's gonna be nice. Partly, we'll probably partly call these
• 26:17
Speaker 2: guys tomorrow boastly sunny as we go into Thursday, Friday,
• 26:21
Speaker 2: mostly sunny. Friday is gonna be great for the final
• 26:23
Speaker 2: live of the Levee, final one of the season. Yeah,
• 26:25
Speaker 2: so that's that's I'm disappointment but also excited because you
• 26:29
Speaker 2: know what that means is guess what school starts like that?
• 26:33
Speaker 7: Yeah? Here in a couple of weeks.
• 26:34
Speaker 2: Yeah, that's crazy. Yeah, why can we wait till Labor Day?
• 26:39
Speaker 5: Well don't We were talking about that upstairs in the
• 26:41
Speaker 5: office earlier, about when school starts, because you know, I mean,
• 26:44
Speaker 5: in our I'm older than you. But but I will
• 26:47
Speaker 5: say that when I went to school, it was always
• 26:49
Speaker 5: a day after Labor Day. Traditionally, same is always a
• 26:52
Speaker 5: day and then I think like toward my maybe my
• 26:54
Speaker 5: junior or senior year, they started starting it a little
• 26:57
Speaker 5: bit earlier, like maybe the week before I think remember
• 26:59
Speaker 5: one year we went like on a Thursdsday to get
• 27:03
Speaker 5: us to get schedules and whatnot, and then and then
• 27:06
Speaker 5: we were off on Labor Day. But traditionally it was
• 27:08
  Speaker 5: it used to.
• 27:08
Speaker 2: Be it was Monday, Yeah, the Tuesday following.
• 27:11
  Speaker 6: The old day.
• 27:11
Speaker 5: Oh man, hey, I want to ask you because you
• 27:14
Speaker 5: were up there yesterday. You went north yesterday to take
• 27:16
Speaker 5: up some of our flood supplies or donations that we
• 27:19
Speaker 5: picked up on Friday here from the greatest listeners in
• 27:23
Speaker 5: the world, and you and a couple of others drove
• 27:25
Speaker 5: up there to distribute those. I know you hadn't been
• 27:28
Speaker 5: there in person. You've been monitoring and of course on
• 27:31
Speaker 5: the computers and doing great coverage for us. What was
• 27:34
Speaker 5: it like when you were up in those areas yesterday?
• 27:36
Speaker 5: Was it what you I mean? I know you saw
• 27:38
Speaker 5: it on the computer screen, but sometimes we got to
• 27:41
Speaker 5: see it in person.
• 27:41
Speaker 7: Yeah, So what was your take on?
• 27:42
  Speaker 1: Well?
• 27:43
Speaker 2: And that's all we always trying to do. Any major
• 27:45
Speaker 2: historic type of flooding or storms that are ravaged areas
• 27:49
Speaker 2: we try and get into that area so that we
• 27:51
Speaker 2: can have a better understanding of what people were experiencing.
• 27:54
Speaker 2: Everything else. I mean when I was walking through parts
• 27:56
Speaker 2: of downtown and this was a canon. Sorry, no, we
• 28:00
Speaker 2: were in no West West. Yeah, we went to west
• 28:02
Speaker 2: and we far the furthest east that we went was
• 28:05
Speaker 2: to the Walmart at Weston because Weston is actually worse
• 28:10
Speaker 2: than Buchana. Yeah it is by a long shot. But
• 28:14
Speaker 2: for me, it was everything that I've always known about,
• 28:18
Speaker 2: you know, flash flood and historic flash flooding is there's
• 28:21
Speaker 2: lots of mud, it is contaminated, you don't want to
• 28:24
Speaker 2: breathe it in. And at the same time too, people
• 28:26
Speaker 2: are just trying to clean up. But Logan Scott, who
• 28:29
Speaker 2: went with me, who is at B one hundred easily,
• 28:32
Speaker 2: he's the music director for our radio stations here, our
• 28:35
Speaker 2: music stations, he had never been through a flood and
• 28:39
Speaker 2: he had never seen anything like it. And you know,
• 28:41
Speaker 2: to see his face, you know that that's what people
• 28:45
Speaker 2: experience to some degree. Obviously in much higher level, that's
• 28:49
Speaker 2: what some people were experiencing there just constantly, just to
• 28:52
Speaker 2: shock and all of it all. But you know, the
• 28:54
Speaker 2: one thing that they have were two grocery stores. It
• 28:57
Speaker 2: was the Shop and Save and it was Walmart, and
• 29:01
Speaker 2: they're both shut down right now. Walmart, I think will
• 29:04
Speaker 2: probably be open either. If it's not this weekend, it'll
• 29:06
Speaker 2: be next week probably.
• 29:07
Speaker 5: That's fairly good news because I mean, for what we
• 29:09
Speaker 5: were hearing in the first twenty four to forty eight
• 29:11
Speaker 5: hours is that that Walmart may not open up again.
• 29:14
  Speaker 11: Yeah.
• 29:14
Speaker 2: They and listen, they have cleaning crews in there cleaning
• 29:17
Speaker 2: all of it. I mean, like crazy when I say
• 29:19
Speaker 2: cleaning cruise. We're talking about different companies doing specialized things
• 29:23
Speaker 2: for this, that and the other, and they're just gutting
• 29:25
Speaker 2: the store. Looked at the parking lot. He was full
• 29:27
Speaker 2: of just junk from the store. Ye, And so the
• 29:31
Speaker 2: entire Walmart was sitting out there in the parking lot,
• 29:35
Speaker 2: but they were shipping it out. New stuff was coming in,
• 29:37
Speaker 2: so you know, they're getting that ready. But they also
• 29:40
Speaker 2: had I think I think Weston has a total of
• 29:42
Speaker 2: sixteen restaurants and all, but I think four of them
• 29:46
Speaker 2: are damaged, if not destroyed. Wow, think about that. Yeah,
• 29:49
  Speaker 2: that's so there's a significant economic impact that's going to
• 29:53
Speaker 2: happen on the city, in the community. What we can
• 29:55
Speaker 2: do to help, more than anything is take care of
• 29:57
Speaker 2: these folks who you know, just walk at all.
• 30:00
Speaker 5: Well, they certainly did take care of this area in
• 30:03
Speaker 5: twenty sixteen. I mean a lot of them came down
• 30:05
Speaker 5: there in Clendenna and elf and on down into Greenbrier County.
• 30:09
  Speaker 2: Rain.
• 30:09
Speaker 5: Now some of these, some of these places that were
• 30:11
Speaker 5: hard hit. So it's you know, it's all West Virginia.
• 30:14
  Speaker 1: Man.
• 30:14
  Speaker 11: Yeah.
• 30:14
Speaker 2: We were at the hot dog place in downtown right
• 30:17
Speaker 2: across from the Senior Center and it's called the Original.
• 30:20
Speaker 2: We went in there and it just so happens to
• 30:22
Speaker 2: her husband and wife who owned it. Her birthday was
• 30:25
Speaker 2: the flooding wo one week ago. Today was her birthday.
• 30:29
Speaker 2: And her father who started the business forty years ago.
• 30:33
Speaker 2: I mean they'd expanded it. It started forty years ago.
• 30:36
Speaker 2: He died back in March, and he'd talk about the
• 30:38
Speaker 2: breakdown moment before her and her husband because they also
• 30:42
Speaker 2: had their house flooded out, so they lost the entire
• 30:44
Speaker 2: business completely, I mean gut it all the way up
• 30:47
Speaker 2: to the ceiling. Wow, it's crazy.
• 30:49
  Speaker 7: Yeah.
• 30:50
Speaker 5: If you still want to help out again, you can
• 30:51
Speaker 5: go to w Metronews dot com or go to any
• 30:54
Speaker 5: of our station's websites here in the building. We've got
• 30:56
Speaker 5: a link on every one of them that you can donate.
• 30:58
Speaker 5: As I said, the folks and our Clarksburg cluster, Jack
• 31:01
Speaker 5: Murphy and the boys and the folks are out there
• 31:04
Speaker 5: today at our stations there and we'll check in with
• 31:07
Speaker 5: Jack during the two o'clock hour.
• 31:08
  Speaker 7: I Metro New's midday today.
• 31:09
Speaker 5: You see how it's going there going ten to four today,
• 31:11
Speaker 5: So you can drop off items there, is there anything?
• 31:14
Speaker 5: I mean, we've been telling the folks about the things
• 31:16
Speaker 5: that we need to drop off these collections. Of course,
• 31:19
Speaker 5: cash is always still the best cash or however internet
• 31:22
Speaker 5: based you want to talk about it.
• 31:24
Speaker 7: What did you see up.
• 31:25
Speaker 5: There yesterday, Brian that you thought as you were driving
• 31:28
Speaker 5: around to the station vehicle and you thought, Okay, this
• 31:31
Speaker 5: area really needs this right now.
• 31:33
Speaker 2: It needs food trucks, food trucks that go in and
• 31:37
Speaker 2: help take care of them because they have the Operation Barbecue, which,
• 31:41
Speaker 2: by the way, that started in Joplin, the Joplin Tornado.
• 31:44
Speaker 2: They went up there, they thought they'd served probably about
• 31:46
Speaker 2: probably about four or five thousand meals. They served eleven
• 31:50
Speaker 2: thousand and then sin since twenty eleven they've served a
• 31:53
Speaker 2: total of thirteen million meals. Wow, and it's just these
• 31:56
Speaker 2: barbecue people from the Kansas City Barbecue Association I'm sorry, society, Yeah, KCB.
• 32:03
Speaker 2: So So really, if there was a way to get
• 32:06
Speaker 2: food trucks in there could be get taken care of,
• 32:08
Speaker 2: you know, the bills could be paid. That's what they need.
• 32:10
Speaker 5: Okay, all right, Well, look we got several of them
• 32:13
Speaker 5: in the Kanaal Valley.
• 32:14
Speaker 7: Right, I mean I got a lot of them. We
• 32:16
Speaker 7: got a lot of them.
• 32:16
Speaker 5: So if you're listening, don't make us call you out
• 32:18
Speaker 5: by name, but there are several food trucks for several
• 32:21
Speaker 5: people who listen to this program that I know you
• 32:23
Speaker 5: have food trucks and if you can get up there,
• 32:25
Speaker 5: I know they would appreciate it.
• 32:27
Speaker 2: That was the one thing I saw was that there's
• 32:29
Speaker 2: just not enough food being prepped because, like I said,
• 32:32
Speaker 2: if they're in Wesson, four restaurants are left, and it's
• 32:35
Speaker 2: that that's right across from the sheets. So you have
• 32:37
Speaker 2: the Sheets technically a restaurant, but you've got the Taco Bell,
• 32:41
  Speaker 2: the McDonald's and whatever is. I think there's a Starbucks
• 32:43
Speaker 2: and I think a KFC in there. Okay, so that's
• 32:46
  Speaker 2: all they've that's all they've got. They've got to go
• 32:49
Speaker 2: up the road chang Lou. They've got to go back
• 32:51
Speaker 2: down south, you know, and all that stuff destroy too.
• 32:53
Speaker 2: So when we were going up there, we saw tons
• 32:56
Speaker 2: of mudslides, tons of on the interstate.
• 32:58
Speaker 7: That's what on the inner say on the interstate. Yeah,
• 33:01
Speaker 7: that's what happens at this point. All right.
• 33:03
Speaker 5: So if that hot dog place that you mentioned, if
• 33:05
Speaker 5: they or do you think they'll be able to open
• 33:07
  Speaker 5: back up again.
• 33:08
Speaker 2: Yeah, they're going to totally get the whole place.
• 33:10
  Speaker 7: Yeah.
• 33:11
Speaker 2: And they had one one cooper that was still working.
• 33:14
Speaker 2: They don't know how, yeah, but it was working. So
• 33:16
Speaker 2: it was kind of keeping things chilled in there.
• 33:18
Speaker 5: So when they do reopen and you go back up
• 33:22
Speaker 5: there again, are you going to continue your tradition of
• 33:25
Speaker 5: ordering mayo on your hot dog?
• 33:26
  Speaker 2: I absolutely will. But that's the thing. I want a
• 33:32
Speaker 2: hot dog from there. I want a hot dog so that,
• 33:34
Speaker 2: you know, the same thing when I went to Hurricane Michael,
• 33:36
Speaker 2: category five hurricane, I said, I'll be back. I want
• 33:38
Speaker 2: to see what it looks like, you know, when it's
• 33:40
  Speaker 2: put back together.
• 33:41
  Speaker 7: Yeah, So that's.
• 33:42
Speaker 5: All right, give me thirty seconds again on what we
• 33:44
Speaker 5: expect for the rest of the day.
• 33:45
Speaker 2: We otherwise, rest of the afternoon, we're looking at some
• 33:47
Speaker 2: showers in thunder storms bubbling up probably around noonness and
• 33:49
Speaker 2: we'll see more than we do. Have some showers that
• 33:51
Speaker 2: are out there across parts of Lincoln and Boone Counties
• 33:53
Speaker 2: right now. Just a few sprinkles in Kanagh County. Heavy,
• 33:57
Speaker 2: So the storms are down in far south of West Virginia.
• 33:59
Speaker 2: But we get to noon to three o'clock, that's where
• 34:01
Speaker 2: the storms will bubble up again one more time. They'll
• 34:03
Speaker 2: slide off to the southeast tomorrow, high and dry all
• 34:05
  Speaker 2: the way through.
• 34:06
Speaker 5: Friday, and we yeah, I guess my great weather after that.
• 34:08
Speaker 5: As you mentioned, the final live on the Levee will
• 34:10
  Speaker 5: be Friday.
• 34:11
  Speaker 12: Yeah.
• 34:11
Speaker 2: I can't wait, all right, because listen, it's the Taylor
• 34:13
  Speaker 2: Swift stuff.
• 34:14
Speaker 7: It's Taylor Swift tribute.
• 34:16
Speaker 5: Yeah, all right, Brian Hughes, much of news Metiorologist, appreciate

• 38:05
Speaker 5: I don't know. If they started that there wouldn't be
• 38:08
Speaker 5: a GOP after a very long time. Well, they can't
• 38:11
Speaker 5: necessarily kick someone out of the party now. If you
• 38:15
Speaker 5: were listening to the show yesterday, we had Tony Hodge,
• 38:18
Speaker 5: who was pretty high ranking official in the State Republican Party,
• 38:22
Speaker 5: and Tony said they have their meeting, the state has
• 38:24
Speaker 5: their state party has their meeting this Saturday in Charleston,
• 38:27
Speaker 5: and that he got enough signatures to basically disavow delegate
• 38:33
Speaker 5: for now former Delegate Elliott Pritt. So technically they really
• 38:38
Speaker 5: you can't kick someone out of a party, but they
• 38:41
Speaker 5: can basically say we don't recognize you. And that's that's
• 38:44
Speaker 5: what's going to happen at the meeting this week. Coming

• 39:15
Speaker 5: Also, another flood relief effort, as I mentioned earlier, going

Speaker 5: Radio Park Drive in Mountclair. Jack Murphy from stations up there,

• 45:32
Speaker 5: call out all sexual abuses of any kind, even Trump
• 45:35
Speaker 5: as a tankster touched on this previously. Elissa Middleton the
• 45:40
Speaker 5: person charge and the ambulance incident that killed John Lucas.
• 45:43
Speaker 5: So motions have been filed in that case that could
• 45:46
Speaker 5: move the trial out of kanawc County. Little Middleton, of course,
• 45:50
Speaker 5: indicted by a special grand jury of charges of voluntary
• 45:53
Speaker 5: manslaughter leaving the scene of an ambulance causing death and
• 45:56
Speaker 5: aggravated vehica her homicide. Of course, John Lucas died in
• 45:59
Speaker 5: that incident. Now the lawyers for list of Middleton have
• 46:02
Speaker 5: asked for a change of venue. Quote Now, given the
• 46:05
Speaker 5: widespread hostility towards the accused end quote, the attorney feels
• 46:12
Speaker 5: a fair and impartial jury could not be assembled in
• 46:16
Speaker 5: Kanawk County. Now, let me read from the actual court
• 46:21
  Speaker 5: filing here.
• 46:22
Speaker 7: If there was that.
• 46:23
Speaker 5: This is from the actual brief filed with the attorney.
• 46:26
Speaker 5: If there was ever a criminal trial in the history
• 46:30
Speaker 5: of Kanawk County that necessitated a change of venue. This
• 46:36
Speaker 5: is it end quote. And actually in the motion WHS
• 46:41
Speaker 5: Television no relation is mentioned by name. Because of their
• 46:46
Speaker 5: live stream that practically had everyone in Kanawh County watching it. Now,
• 46:50
Speaker 5: I'm my faulting them, Don't get me wrong. I'm just
• 46:52
Speaker 5: saying that's you know, they did the live streaming today.
• 46:55
Speaker 5: Of course the heavy media coverage is part of it.
• 46:58
Speaker 5: But the order also so mentions again quoting the community's
• 47:03
Speaker 5: strong demand for accountability in quote as a reason to
• 47:08
Speaker 5: move the case out of Kanak County. Of course, both
• 47:12
Speaker 5: Middleton and the other girl were fired from the ambulance service.
• 47:15
Speaker 5: The other girl wasn't charged. There are attorneys also asking
• 47:19
Speaker 5: for a delay in the trial, which is supposed to
• 47:23
Speaker 5: start on August seventeenth. Now it's going to be decided
• 47:26
Speaker 5: what's going to happen next in front of Judge Dave
• 47:28
Speaker 5: Hardy this morning at ten am. We are in the
• 47:30
Speaker 5: courtroom and have more on Aaron online later. And look,
• 47:37
Speaker 5: I get what the attorneys are trying to do here,
• 47:42
Speaker 5: and if I were an attorney in this case, I
• 47:44
Speaker 5: probably would do the same thing. I am not sure
• 47:49
Speaker 5: that a fair trial can be held in Kanak County
• 47:54
Speaker 5: and I know how the majority of people feel in
• 47:59
Speaker 5: this case. I do, but like it or not, people
• 48:04
Speaker 5: in America are entitled to a fair trial. And the
• 48:09
Speaker 5: online stuff got so bad that the actual family of
• 48:16
Speaker 5: John Lucas and their attorneys came on the air with
• 48:19
Speaker 5: us on Metro News Midday and pretty much begged people
• 48:24
Speaker 5: to stop with all the stuff on Facebook, saying, you
• 48:27
Speaker 5: are in fact hurting the case. So if this if
• 48:33
Speaker 5: this case has moved out of Kanawha County, and I'm
• 48:36
Speaker 5: not a legal scholar, I'm not going to predict whether
• 48:38
Speaker 5: it's going to be moved down to the county or not.
• 48:39
  Speaker 7: I don't know.
• 48:42
Speaker 5: A lot of that is going to be I would
• 48:45
Speaker 5: think very smart, but I would I would think a
• 48:48
Speaker 5: lot of that is going to be because of a
• 48:50
Speaker 5: lot of the online stuff. And again, a couple of
• 48:56
Speaker 5: weeks after this, we had the attorney in the case
• 49:00
Speaker 5: on the show on Metro News Midday basically come forward
• 49:03
Speaker 5: and said, look, I know what everybody, it's all coming
• 49:07
Speaker 5: from a good place, we get it, but please stop
• 49:11
Speaker 5: because you're hurting the case. And I think there is
• 49:14
Speaker 5: a real possibility that this case will not be hurt
• 49:16
Speaker 5: in Kanaan County that it will go somewhere else because
• 49:20
Speaker 5: of the you know, the intense coverage, and look, it's
• 49:23
Speaker 5: not just the online stuff, it's the media coverage and
• 49:25
Speaker 5: so on and so forth.
• 49:26
  Speaker 7: But it's media.
• 49:27
Speaker 5: We have to cover it. We can't not cover it.
• 49:30
Speaker 5: So we'll see what happens. He goes before Judge Hardy Attenney,
• 49:33
Speaker 5: and this morning Daniel Woods is in the courtroom and
• 49:36
Speaker 5: he'll have a story online wv Metronews dot com and
• 49:40
Speaker 5: on air as well. So anyway, we will just have
• 49:42
Speaker 5: to kind of wait and see what happens. Invict you

Speaker 5: Elliot Print Jack Carlson lead story this morning WV metro
• 50:09
Speaker 5: News dot Com. Delegate Print has resigned one sentenced letter
• 50:13
Speaker 5: to House Speaker Roger Hanshaw yesterday. Print was in Federal
• 50:18
Speaker 5: Court in Charleston yesterday afternoon and after being charged last
• 50:22
Speaker 5: week with seducing this fifteen year old who was a
• 50:26

• 50:28
Speaker 5: the US Magistrate Judge Dwayne Tensley, wearing the orange jumpsuit.
• 50:33
Speaker 5: His hands and feet were cuffed and Jack said that
• 50:36
Speaker 5: Print waived his detention hearing and a preliminary hearing, so
• 50:40
Speaker 5: that basically means Print will remain in custody as the
• 50:45
Speaker 5: case continues. And that statement from US Attorney for the

• 51:08
Speaker 5: Governor Morrison ONEX said, quote, good riddance to the terrible
• 51:14
Speaker 5: former West Virginia Delegate Elliot Print. He just resigned. Print
• 51:18
Speaker 5: was not only accused of terrible grimes against a child,
• 51:20
Speaker 5: but he was a former socialist who was making his
• 51:24
Speaker 5: way up the GOP leadership pathway. The GOP must always
• 51:29
Speaker 5: stand for integrity, protecting our kids, and maintaining our principles.
• 51:33
Speaker 5: Happy for this result in quote, I mean, I think
• 51:40
Speaker 5: we can all agree on the basic premise from the
• 51:43
Speaker 5: governor here. But did the governor really think that Print
• 51:47
Speaker 5: was a former socialist? Did he think that this time
• 51:49
Speaker 5: last month? Maybe he did, I don't know. He seems
• 51:53
Speaker 5: like strong wording, very very trump white new slash Democrats.
