- 0:21Speaker 1: Hello. Welcome to Pastor's Perspective. I'm your host, Brian Perez,
- 0:27Speaker 1: and uh it's Friday. Call in. It's your last chance
- 0:30Speaker 1: this week to uh ask your questions about the Bible,
- 0:34Speaker 1: the Christian faith, just about anything that's on your mind.
- 0:36Speaker 1: 888-564-6173 is the number to call, as always. We are
- 0:42Speaker 1: here with Brian and Cheryl Broderson, and you can also
- 0:46Speaker 1: watch us live streaming on Facebook, YouTube, and Instagram. So
- 0:49Speaker 1: how are you guys doing?
- 0:52Speaker 1: Well, Brian has been very, very sick and I've been
- 0:58Speaker 1: packing boxes and so I'm a, I'm a little bit, uh,
- 1:02Speaker 1: I think we're a little tired.
- 1:04Speaker 1: Just a little, yeah, you know, it seems we're at
- 1:08Speaker 1: that place when it's tedious. Have you ever cleaned out
- 1:10Speaker 1: your closet? And, oh, if you clean out your closet,
- 1:14Speaker 1: this is it, yeah, it's spoken like a man when
- 1:17Speaker 1: you pull everything out, there's this one, there's a one.
- 1:22Speaker 1: Like part of it where, where it's worse than it's
- 1:26Speaker 1: ever been, it's just so worse and you're like, what
- 1:29Speaker 1: have I committed myself to and then you just have
- 1:32Speaker 1: to just start.
- 1:34Speaker 1: You know, working it and organizing and putting things back
- 1:39Speaker 1: and cleaning and then you put it all in order
- 1:42Speaker 1: and you're like, that was all worth it. But I'm
- 1:45Speaker 1: at that stage where it's pretty much chaos. And I'm,
- 1:51Speaker 1: you know, to try and organize chaos is, is hard.
- 1:54Speaker 1: It's not an easy thing. It's not chaos. If, if
- 1:57Speaker 1: you try to organize chaos, it's, yeah, I want God
- 1:59Speaker 1: just to look at my house and say, let there
- 2:01Speaker 1: be light, you know, just speak over it right now.
- 2:05Speaker 1: But actually we're making, we had a friend come over
- 2:07Speaker 1: and collect some books. Brian posted all the books we,
- 2:10Speaker 1: we had, we have, I think we still have close
- 2:13Speaker 1: to 1000, but we had over 1000 books that were
- 2:16Speaker 1: just trying to, um, filter. They're good books, most of them.
- 2:20Speaker 1: He
- 2:21Speaker 2: took, I think he took a couple 100 at
- 2:23Speaker 2: least,
- 2:23Speaker 1: yeah, but we still have quite a few. I mean
- 2:25Speaker 1: we've got probably, we've got probably at least 30 stacks
- 2:30Speaker 1: with about 20 books each.
- 2:33Speaker 1: Yeah, it goes all the way from our, all the
- 2:36Speaker 1: way down our hallway. We've got these stacks of books
- 2:38Speaker 1: that are, some of them 2 ft high and it's
- 2:41Speaker 1: just like, oh, there's good books though. I mean, I
- 2:43Speaker 1: have a lot of biographies and stuff. Um, people have
- 2:45Speaker 1: been asking like, oh, do you have any of these
- 2:47Speaker 1: books and that book? It's like, oh please don't ask
- 2:49Speaker 1: me that. I don't want to have to go through
- 2:51Speaker 1: and find those books, but I know they're in there.
- 2:53Speaker 1: If somebody else would be willing to come over and
- 2:55Speaker 1: organize them.
- 2:56Speaker 1: Then all blessings. Hey, Emily volunteered to come over. Maybe
- 2:59Speaker 1: I'll say, Hey, you want to come over and organize
- 3:01Speaker 1: books and have a book organizing party. Yes,
- 3:05Speaker 2: yes,
- 3:06Speaker 1: I can't believe.
- 3:07Speaker 2: I think getting rid of books is the goal, not organizing,
- 3:11Speaker 1: but I mean organizing them so you can get rid
- 3:13Speaker 1: of them. When we first, you know, moved into our
- 3:16Speaker 1: house and Brian had, you know, Brian's always had a
- 3:19Speaker 1: huge book collection, so I took them. I mean, this
- 3:22Speaker 1: is how the book collection went.
- 3:24Speaker 1: I had an office and I had 12344 bookshelves, and
- 3:30Speaker 1: they were filled. And I had a bookshelf in IKEA
- 3:33Speaker 1: one that's tall, which I'm selling, that was filled with bookshelves.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Those are mine. Then we had in our family room,
- 3:40Speaker 1: we had a wall of bookshelves and they were filled.
- 3:43Speaker 1: And then Brian has an office and he had 123.
- 3:47Speaker 1: Free-standing bookshelves, and then he had uh one that goes
- 3:51Speaker 1: all the way against the wall, all the way to
- 3:52Speaker 1: the ceiling, and that was filled with books. So that
- 3:55Speaker 1: tells you a lot about how many books we've had.
- 3:59Speaker 1: You know, it didn't seem that many when they were
- 4:01Speaker 1: in their place, but the minute we started putting them
- 4:03Speaker 1: in boxes, and
- 4:05Speaker 2: today
- 4:05Speaker 1: I multiplied,
- 4:06Speaker 2: I gave away a couple of ones that I, you know,
- 4:09Speaker 2: kind of thought, no, I need to keep these, and
- 4:10Speaker 2: I was looking at I'm like, why do I think
- 4:12Speaker 2: I need
- 4:12Speaker 1: to
- 4:12Speaker 2: keep these?
- 4:13Speaker 1: Yeah, I know if we lived another lifetime, I don't
- 4:15Speaker 1: know that we'd have time to read all these books again.
- 4:18Speaker 1: But so many of these books, um, I featured on
- 4:20Speaker 1: Women Worth Knowing, which is the podcast I do where
- 4:23Speaker 1: I feature women, um, that God has used in extraordinary ways.
- 4:27Speaker 1: So I have a lot of those books that I'm
- 4:30Speaker 1: giving away.
- 4:31Speaker 1: Because I thought, OK, these books blessed me. In fact,
- 4:33Speaker 1: I've given away, I'm giving away a lot of books
- 4:35Speaker 1: that they blessed me in the past, and I thought,
- 4:37Speaker 1: you know, it's time for them to bless somebody else.
- 4:40Speaker 1: I had another friend who came over and she collected
- 4:42Speaker 1: some biographies too, so that was fun. It's kind of
- 4:45Speaker 1: fun to have people call us and say, Can I
- 4:47Speaker 1: come over and get books? And we're like, Yes, yeah,
- 4:49Speaker 2: but we don't really want any strangers coming over.
- 4:51Speaker 1: No, that's true. So if you're a stranger, please don't call.
- 4:55Speaker 1: Now we're gonna have a sidewalk sale here at Calvary
- 4:57Speaker 1: Chapel Costa Mesa in a few weeks. Maybe we'll just,
- 5:00Speaker 1: they really, you know, yeah, what? You're kidding. You're kidding.
- 5:03Speaker 1: We're selling the sidewalk. No, we're, uh, it's, no, it's,
- 5:06Speaker 1: you know, our annual sidewalk sale that the chapel store does. And, um, yeah,
- 5:10Speaker 1: so maybe we can, you should call them and find
- 5:12Speaker 1: out if they wanna do it.
- 5:14Speaker 1: Because I called, but I didn't tell them who I was,
- 5:16Speaker 1: so they were like, no, we don't want your bucks.
- 5:18Speaker 1: They probably thought they were. I don't know what they thought,
- 5:20Speaker 1: but maybe if you call,
- 5:21Speaker 2: no, I'll, I'll talk
- 5:22Speaker 2: to, I know some people,
- 5:23Speaker 1: you know
- 5:24Speaker 2: some people's good, some of the big wigs, yeah,
- 5:27Speaker 1: I know I've met the pastor once or twice, so.
- 5:31Speaker 2: 888-564-6173 is our number and we're gonna begin with Angel
- 5:36Speaker 2: and San Bernardino listening to K-wave.
- 5:39Speaker 1: Thank
- 5:39Speaker 2: you, Angel. You're on with Brian and Cheryl Broderson.
- 5:44Speaker 2: Yeah, um, the question was, uh, in the book of
- 5:48Speaker 2: Thessalonians it talks about.
- 5:50Speaker 2: When Jesus comes, we're going to meet up.
- 5:53Speaker 2: With them in the air.
- 5:55Speaker 2: But then in the book of Revelation, it talks about
- 5:58Speaker 2: when they opened the seals, all these things that are
- 6:00Speaker 2: gonna happen is, so are we gonna experience that?
- 6:05Speaker 2: Or not?
- 6:07Speaker 2: Uh, I, I do not think so. Um, but you know,
- 6:10Speaker 2: this is one of those, um, debated, um, topics, uh,
- 6:16Speaker 2: whether Christians will, I, I think in chapter 6 when
- 6:20Speaker 2: the seals begin to be open, I think we're beginning what,
- 6:23Speaker 2: what we would commonly call the, the period of the
- 6:26Speaker 2: great tribulation, which the first half of it will.
- 6:30Speaker 2: Um, not be as intense as the second half, but, but,
- 6:34Speaker 2: you know, the second half, everything will culminate, but it nevertheless,
- 6:37Speaker 2: it will be, um, a, a difficult time. I think
- 6:41Speaker 2: the rider on the white horse in chapter 6, verse
- 6:43Speaker 2: 1 is the person we commonly call the anti-Christ. And
- 6:48Speaker 2: so I think that the church will be taken out
- 6:53Speaker 2: of the world before that and you know, Revelation 2
- 6:57Speaker 2: and 3.
- 6:58Speaker 2: You have kind of maybe sort of an overview of
- 7:01Speaker 2: the history of the church. You have 7 letters to
- 7:03Speaker 2: 7 churches, which of course there were many, many more
- 7:06Speaker 2: churches in the region and in the world at the time,
- 7:09Speaker 2: but 7 is a number that occurs in Revelation over
- 7:13Speaker 2: and over again, and I think we can legitimately say
- 7:15Speaker 2: it's a number that kind of speaks of fullness or completion.
- 7:19Speaker 2: So it's kind of a of an overview of church
- 7:22Speaker 2: history in some ways and um.
- 7:27Speaker 2: So the fourth chapter begins with the words after these things.
- 7:31Speaker 2: And so you naturally ask after what things? Well, after
- 7:34Speaker 2: the things that have been talked about, which would be
- 7:37Speaker 2: the things of the church, and then you have this, uh, experience,
- 7:41Speaker 2: you know.
- 7:42Speaker 2: Uh, voice, uh, door open in heaven, voice calling John,
- 7:47Speaker 2: come up here, and then chapter 4 and 5 and
- 7:50Speaker 1: a lot of people think of that as the rapture,
- 7:53Speaker 1: they think of what we call the rapture,
- 7:55Speaker 2: yeah. And then you have, um, you know, chapters 4
- 7:59Speaker 2: and 5, you have the, the heavenly scene, and then
- 8:01Speaker 2: in chapter 5, of course, you have the
- 8:03Speaker 2: Uh, the lamb who was slain who comes and takes
- 8:06Speaker 2: a scroll and begins to loose the seals, and then
- 8:08Speaker 2: you have chapter 6, which is the beginning of, uh,
- 8:12Speaker 2: the judgment, um, as the seals are, uh.
- 8:18Speaker 1: Loosed they're, they're loosed, you know, it's interesting too because
- 8:21Speaker 1: it's the song that is sung at that, you know,
- 8:24Speaker 1: worthy is the lamb, um, who has redeemed us from
- 8:28Speaker 1: every tribe and that to, to take the scroll and
- 8:31Speaker 1: loose the seals thereof would appear that the church is
- 8:33Speaker 1: in heaven observing, uh, the loosing of this,
- 8:37Speaker 2: because
- 8:37Speaker 2: you redeemed us from every tribe, tongue, and nation, yeah,
- 8:40Speaker 2: which is a description of the church, um, so does
- 8:44Speaker 2: that help, angel.
- 8:48Speaker 2: Yeah, I, I think it was what I was reading, uh,
- 8:51Speaker 2: I think it's after the 6th Seal where it talks about.
- 8:55Speaker 2: That even after all this thing happens, all these people
- 8:59Speaker 2: that do idolatry and witchcraft, they still want to repent,
- 9:04Speaker 2: and that led me to believe that.
- 9:07Speaker 2: It doesn't mention the believers at all, um, but, um,
- 9:12Speaker 2: we had a discussion in our men's group and
- 9:16Speaker 2: It, it doesn't specify anything about the believers, and, and
- 9:21Speaker 2: I've heard from a pastor, another pastor that that we
- 9:25Speaker 2: would be spared from that, but I, I don't see
- 9:28Speaker 2: it anywhere on the Bible that specifically says that other than, uh,
- 9:33Speaker 2: what's on the Book of Thessalonians.
- 9:35Speaker 2: Yeah, and the in the book of Revelation, you know,
- 9:38Speaker 2: you have the, like I mentioned, you have the things
- 9:40Speaker 2: of the church, chapter 1 and 2, then you have the,
- 9:42Speaker 2: you know, come up here and then you do not
- 9:44Speaker 2: have any specific reference to the church until the 19th
- 9:48Speaker 2: chapter when you have, um, the Lord returning. Um, now
- 9:52Speaker 2: some people look at, you know, those middle chapters, and
- 9:55Speaker 2: of course there's the saints and they, oh this is
- 9:57Speaker 2: the church, but I think, you know, we're gonna have, um.
- 10:01Speaker 2: A unique situation with Jewish believers who were reconciled to
- 10:06Speaker 2: God through their faith in the Messiah, and you're going
- 10:08Speaker 2: to have multitudes of people from among the nations who
- 10:11Speaker 2: are going to come to faith. So they would be
- 10:13Speaker 2: the ones that are mentioned. But you touched on something
- 10:16Speaker 2: that is a valid point, and that is unfortunately, there
- 10:21Speaker 2: is no place in scripture where you are told definitely unequivocally.
- 10:29Speaker 2: Uh, this is the time of the rapture. That's why
- 10:32Speaker 2: there's a debate among Christians as to whether that, you know,
- 10:37Speaker 2: some Christians, uh, would challenge even the idea of a rapture. Um,
- 10:42Speaker 2: and then others who believe in a rapture, they, of course, um,
- 10:46Speaker 2: battle over whether the rapture happens before the tribulation or
- 10:50Speaker 2: in the middle of the tribulation or at the end
- 10:53Speaker 2: of the tribulation, so.
- 10:55Speaker 2: So, and there is no one passage. I, I personally
- 10:59Speaker 2: think after many years of studying and thinking about it,
- 11:02Speaker 2: I personally think that the pre-tribulational view is the one
- 11:05Speaker 2: that makes the most sense, um, but there's some.
- 11:10Speaker 2: Other arguments that are obviously persuasive to some people, um,
- 11:15Speaker 2: not to me, but, you know.
- 11:17Speaker 2: They're persuasive to some really good people too.
- 11:21Speaker 1: Angel, does
- 11:21Speaker 2: this
- 11:21Speaker 1: help you?
- 11:23Speaker 2: Uh yeah, of course. Awesome. Thank you very much.
- 11:27Speaker 2: Thanks for calling in today to Pastor's Perspective at 888-564-6173.
- 11:33Speaker 2: Now here's Rudy in Baldwin Park. Hello, Rudy, you're on
- 11:36Speaker 2: with Brian and Cheryl Broderson.
- 11:39Speaker 2: Hi Brian, it's Cheryl, and I hope you feel better, Mr. Roberson. Well,
- 11:43Speaker 2: you and me so much, Rudy. I appreciate that because yeah,
- 11:47Speaker 2: then you can help your wife back. I know exactly, exactly.
- 11:52Speaker 2: I think to reach. She's a little suspicious that I'm
- 11:54Speaker 2: faking it, you know,
- 11:56Speaker 1: just a little bit.
- 11:58Speaker 2: You need any help, call me and my wife. We'll
- 11:59Speaker 2: head over there and help you out.
- 12:01Speaker 1: I love that. Thank you so much, Rudy.
- 12:04Speaker 2: OK, my question is, um, I understand when we accept
- 12:07Speaker 2: Christ that he says we're under grace, and I know
- 12:09Speaker 2: the Romans 5, Romans 6, Romans 7, and Romans 8,
- 12:13Speaker 2: it always talks about, um, we have been released from
- 12:16Speaker 2: the law serving in a new way of the spirit.
- 12:19Speaker 2: And then it says, um, we're no longer a master,
- 12:22Speaker 2: and we're not no longer under, under the law because
- 12:24Speaker 2: we're under grace now. And then, so my question is,
- 12:28Speaker 2: when I go to church sometimes I go to pastors,
- 12:30Speaker 2: they make you feel like you have to tithe, which
- 12:32Speaker 2: is the law.
- 12:34Speaker 2: And then they make you feel like if you don't,
- 12:36Speaker 2: if you don't tithe, your, your, you're, if that's the
- 12:39Speaker 2: reason why you're short of money. But then that makes
- 12:42Speaker 2: me feel like when God promised us, uh, when Jesus said,
- 12:47Speaker 2: don't worry about what you're gonna wear tomorrow. Don't worry
- 12:49Speaker 2: about what you're gonna eat.
- 12:50Speaker 2: I, I, I feed the birds of the field. They
- 12:52Speaker 2: don't toil for nothing. Ain't you worth more. So that's
- 12:55Speaker 2: God's promise that he's always gonna take care of us
- 12:57Speaker 2: no matter whether we tithe or not. So my question is,
- 13:01Speaker 2: do we have to tithe or, or, is it, cause
- 13:05Speaker 2: they make us feel guilty like we have to tithe.
- 13:09Speaker 2: What do you feel about tithing,
- 13:10Speaker 1: Rudy? Like, do you, he says he doesn't want to
- 13:13Speaker 1: feel guilty. I think
- 13:14Speaker 2: I feel
- 13:15Speaker 1: like,
- 13:15Speaker 2: I feel it's like giving you give what you can.
- 13:17Speaker 2: Like sometimes I could give more this week. Sometimes I
- 13:20Speaker 2: could give less. I feel like it's an investment in
- 13:22Speaker 2: the church and it's an investment in God, and I,
- 13:25Speaker 2: I feel like I'm an investor when I, when I
- 13:27Speaker 2: give money to my church. I'm investing in the.
- 13:29Speaker 2: Programs and stuff like that. I kind of feel and
- 13:32Speaker 2: wish that I could open their books and make sure
- 13:33Speaker 2: that the money is going to where it should be going.
- 13:36Speaker 2: Because I, I'm actually like an investor like all the
- 13:38Speaker 2: other people we're giving, we're also investing in that church,
- 13:42Speaker 2: investing in the pastor and the people that work there,
- 13:44Speaker 2: and trusting them to take care of the money and
- 13:46Speaker 2: make sure it goes to God.
- 13:47Speaker 1: So I agree with you.
- 13:50Speaker 2: I wish we could open the books and make sure,
- 13:52Speaker 2: make sure it's going to the right place, like maybe,
- 13:54Speaker 2: you know, once a year having sex or something.
- 13:57Speaker 1: Yeah, we, we actually have an open, we have like, um,
- 14:01Speaker 1: a very open, um, what would you call it, Brian.
- 14:04Speaker 1: Openness about the finances and they put a letter out
- 14:07Speaker 1: quarterly to let all the um people in the church
- 14:10Speaker 1: know exactly the budget where the money is being spent,
- 14:14Speaker 1: where it's gone so they can see it too and
- 14:16Speaker 1: feel like this we're all doing this together so I
- 14:19Speaker 1: really like that um tithing, giving a 10th is actually
- 14:24Speaker 1: definitely an Old Testament principle and the New Testament principle
- 14:27Speaker 1: is that.
- 14:28Speaker 1: You know, um, it's in Corinthians where Paul says, let
- 14:32Speaker 1: everyone set something aside every week, um, for the Lord.
- 14:36Speaker 1: And again, it's as the Lord leads, and I think
- 14:39Speaker 1: one of the best, uh, chapters on giving, you'll find
- 14:43Speaker 1: in 2 Corinthians chapter 8 and 2.
- 14:45Speaker 1: Corinthians chapter 9 and that I think is the New
- 14:49Speaker 1: Testament principle for giving that we get from our heart
- 14:52Speaker 1: that we give willingly, um and and generously and then
- 14:57Speaker 1: there's another OK and then there's another scripture, um, I
- 15:01Speaker 1: think it's in oh is it in Thessalonians that um
- 15:05Speaker 1: those who are who receive are to.
- 15:10Speaker 2: Uh,
- 15:12Speaker 1: or is it Hebrews, last chapter of Hebrews? It's the
- 15:14Speaker 2: last chapter of Hebrews, but Timothy as well. Yeah,
- 15:17Speaker 1: Timothy, yeah,
- 15:18Speaker 2: yeah. So those who are taught the word,
- 15:20Speaker 1: that's right,
- 15:20Speaker 2: let them, uh, you know, kind of get the ideas. Let, let, let,
- 15:24Speaker 2: let them give generously to those who teach.
- 15:27Speaker 2: That's Hebrews.
- 15:27Speaker 1: Now one of the things here at Calvary though, in
- 15:30Speaker 1: the early days, uh, when people were giving generously, um.
- 15:34Speaker 1: You know, the church was able with those funds to buy,
- 15:39Speaker 1: you know, um, some camps and some other things which
- 15:42Speaker 1: at that time, kind of the pre-COVID time people like
- 15:45Speaker 1: to go to retreats and camps we're finding that that's
- 15:49Speaker 1: not something that people like to do so much. They
- 15:51Speaker 1: don't like to leave home.
- 15:52Speaker 1: Like they used to and they're just not responding to
- 15:56Speaker 1: retreats like they used to but uh we found that
- 15:59Speaker 1: um that was one of the the things that the
- 16:02Speaker 1: Lord put on my dad's heart and the board's heart
- 16:04Speaker 1: to invest in and so, um, sometimes, you know, though
- 16:08Speaker 1: there might be excess money, um.
- 16:12Speaker 1: The church will pray about that. I, I know that, um,
- 16:16Speaker 1: there's the church itself here gives 110% of everything that
- 16:21Speaker 1: comes into missions. I mean, that's just something that they
- 16:23Speaker 1: do that they feel like 110% of all that's received
- 16:26Speaker 1: should go to missions, and that's their way of tithing
- 16:29Speaker 1: too and trusting the Lord. But that's something I think
- 16:32Speaker 1: again like the Lord puts it on your heart, the
- 16:34Speaker 1: Holy Spirit puts it on your heart. So I think that, uh, Rudy,
- 16:37Speaker 1: we're all on the same page, don't you, Brian?
- 16:40Speaker 2: I, I do, yeah, and I think we're with Rudy,
- 16:43Speaker 2: you know, I, I think the way you described it, Rudy,
- 16:46Speaker 2: I think that's exactly the way you should approach it. And, um,
- 16:50Speaker 2: you know, Cheryl articulated it and, you know, my, my position,
- 16:55Speaker 2: which obviously there's disagreement among church leaders over this, um.
- 17:02Speaker 2: You know, because I've, I've said for, for years that
- 17:04Speaker 2: I didn't believe that the New Testament taught tithing. Now remember,
- 17:07Speaker 2: tithe is 110, a mandatory 110. So I, I just
- 17:11Speaker 2: don't believe the New Testament teaches that. Some would argue
- 17:14Speaker 2: and say, oh, but you know, there's before the law, um,
- 17:18Speaker 2: Abraham gave 1/10 to Melchizedek and, uh, Jacob gave 110th
- 17:22Speaker 2: to the Lord. And so, OK, yeah, there's, there's, you know,
- 17:26Speaker 2: you do see some principles, but when you come to
- 17:29Speaker 2: the New Testament,
- 17:31Speaker 2: Of course, you have tithing mentioned in the um in
- 17:34Speaker 2: the Gospels, not that there's necessarily any teaching on it,
- 17:37Speaker 2: there's just references to it. But the gospels are really,
- 17:40Speaker 2: you know, still historically in the Old Testament, under the
- 17:44Speaker 2: Old Testament system until Jesus has risen from the dead
- 17:48Speaker 2: and ascended and the Holy Spirit comes and the age
- 17:51Speaker 2: of the church begins. So when you come to the church,
- 17:54Speaker 2: there is no uh teaching on
- 17:57Speaker 2: tithing in the sense that there's the 10%. But like
- 18:01Speaker 2: Cheryl said, the 2 Corinthians 8 and 9, you know,
- 18:04Speaker 2: the funny thing is if you really, if you really
- 18:06Speaker 2: want to get super technical about this, there isn't, there
- 18:10Speaker 2: really isn't any passages in the New Testament that
- 18:13Speaker 2: That speak of it even um so much in the
- 18:18Speaker 2: way we often think of it although it does uh
- 18:23Speaker 2: tell us, you know, to share in all good things
- 18:26Speaker 2: with those who teach and um just like the priest
- 18:31Speaker 2: ate from the um you know the.
- 18:35Speaker 2: Food in the tabernacle. So those who preach the gospel
- 18:38Speaker 2: or to live from the gospel. So tells us things
- 18:41Speaker 2: like that. But, um, those principles in 2 Corinthians 9,
- 18:45Speaker 2: those are what we live by, and I think they're,
- 18:48Speaker 2: they're great because, you know, and you know, for some
- 18:51Speaker 2: people 10% is like, oh gosh, that's so tough, and
- 18:54Speaker 2: for other people 10% is like.
- 18:56Speaker 2: Hey, I can give 20%. I can give
- 18:57Speaker 1: 30%. But remember the widow who gave the two mites
- 19:01Speaker 1: and alerts that she gave more than all those rich
- 19:04Speaker 1: men because she gave all that she had. So, um,
- 19:07Speaker 1: I know that I heard Tim Keller said we should
- 19:10Speaker 1: get to the point that it hurts just a little bit,
- 19:13Speaker 1: you know, that we're gonna miss it, um, so that
- 19:17Speaker 1: we're really trusting God.
- 19:18Speaker 1: Um, for that which we're giving. So, and that's another
- 19:21Speaker 1: principle you could use. Um, there are, uh, so many, um,
- 19:26Speaker 1: as the Lord leads, but I think it's again, it's
- 19:29Speaker 1: up to what the Holy Spirit lays on your heart.
- 19:31Speaker 1: I think it's a very, very,
- 19:33Speaker 2: yeah, and I think when you get into a church
- 19:36Speaker 2: situation where you've got
- 19:38Speaker 2: The leadership that's kind of harping on it and, and
- 19:41Speaker 2: it's sort of, you know, making you feel guilty. Um,
- 19:45Speaker 2: I mean, there is a place for conviction. I, I
- 19:47Speaker 2: remember when I first started giving before you and I
- 19:50Speaker 2: ever got married because I, I, at first I thought,
- 19:54Speaker 2: These guys have more money than I do. Why, why
- 19:56Speaker 2: am I gonna give that money? And then I realized, oh,
- 19:59Speaker 2: but there's something more to it than that,
- 20:01Speaker 1: you know. Wow, you should change by the time we
- 20:03Speaker 1: got married because you're like, Have you tithed? Did you tithe?
- 20:06Speaker 1: So that was very important. But you know, I know
- 20:08Speaker 1: Brian's mom went to a church, um, for a while.
- 20:11Speaker 1: It was, and they got up and told her that
- 20:14Speaker 1: she's supposed to give 90% of her paycheck.
- 20:16Speaker 1: And only 10%, but
- 20:18Speaker 2: that was just for a period of time. But nevertheless
- 20:20Speaker 2: it was a problem,
- 20:21Speaker 1: yeah, and you know that really hurt her at the end.
- 20:24Speaker 1: She felt she did it and we were not in agreement,
- 20:28Speaker 1: but she felt like that was something that she wanted
- 20:31Speaker 1: to do. So we supported her in the end even
- 20:34Speaker 1: though we were like, oh, we didn't think that was
- 20:36Speaker 1: the right thing to ask.
- 20:39Speaker 1: Rudy, thanks for your phone call today on Pastor's Perspective
- 20:41Speaker 1: at 888-564-6173. By the way, I've got a little bit
- 20:46Speaker 1: more clarification on the sidewalk sale. First of all, it
- 20:50Speaker 1: is not a sidewalk sale. We are not selling the sidewalk.
- 20:53Speaker 1: It is the Calvary Distribution warehouse sale. We're selling the warehouse. No, and, uh,
- 20:57Speaker 1: the dates are November 21st and 22nd. And, uh, if
- 21:01Speaker 1: you're listening to Kate Wave, you'll hear more information.
- 21:05Speaker 1: In the, uh, did you ask them if they want
- 21:07Speaker 1: our old books
- 21:08Speaker 2: I have not asked them, but, but
- 21:10Speaker 1: you're getting your information. Where are you getting your I,
- 21:13Speaker 2: it was from Mr. Colin,
- 21:15Speaker 1: in fact, I'll ask Mr. Collin. Yes,
- 21:17Speaker 2: so Mr. Colin, Mr. Collins,
- 21:19Speaker 1: Mr. Collins, yes, he's just calling.
- 21:22Speaker 2: OK. Here is Angelina calling from West Covina, 888-564-6173. Hello,
- 21:30Speaker 2: how can we help you?
- 21:32Speaker 2: Hi pastors, good afternoon. Sorry,
- 21:35Speaker 2: Pastor Brian, you don't feel good. I hope you get better. Oh,
- 21:37Speaker 2: thank you. That's very kind.
- 21:41Speaker 2: OK, my question or maybe advice, I don't, I don't
- 21:44Speaker 2: even know how to put it, but
- 21:46Speaker 2: Um, I recently got married and my, my husband has
- 21:50Speaker 2: a 15 year old, uh, daughter. She doesn't live with us,
- 21:54Speaker 2: but she, they do communicate through the phone or, you know, FaceTime,
- 21:59Speaker 2: and I've noticed that every time they talk, he kind
- 22:03Speaker 2: of starts getting aggressive with me.
- 22:06Speaker 1: He gets mad at me and he starts fights and
- 22:09Speaker 1: little arguments between us and um.
- 22:14Speaker 1: I kind of don't like it because I feel like
- 22:17Speaker 1: she guilt trips him a lot and so like um
- 22:21Speaker 1: feeling like, oh you guys don't want me there and
- 22:24Speaker 1: so I don't know where this mentality of this little
- 22:26Speaker 1: girl is, it's coming from,
- 22:30Speaker 2: but that's not true and then on top of that, um.
- 22:34Speaker 2: She does say she does say that, oh,
- 22:37Speaker 1: I'm the way I am because you left me and
- 22:41Speaker 1: so little things like that and then he starts fighting
- 22:44Speaker 1: with me and I don't like it. I've prayed and
- 22:47Speaker 1: I've asked God to help me, give me patience. Like
- 22:50Speaker 1: I don't want to keep fighting him because we just
- 22:52Speaker 1: got married and so, um, I don't know, pastors. I
- 22:56Speaker 1: don't know what to do. I've got a couple of suggestions.
- 22:59Speaker 1: First of all, I would start praying for her.
- 23:02Speaker 1: And that you just on your own you just pray
- 23:04Speaker 1: for her and one of the things I found um
- 23:08Speaker 1: in intercession is I pray as if I'm her like
- 23:13Speaker 1: I pray like you know, Lord, I have all these insecurities.
- 23:16Speaker 1: Does my dad really love me?
- 23:18Speaker 1: I'm so afraid now that he's remarried, maybe he won't
- 23:21Speaker 1: love me anymore, maybe he won't care, uh, maybe he
- 23:24Speaker 1: doesn't want me because he'll be so happy with her.
- 23:27Speaker 1: There's something that she's going through that is tremendous and
- 23:31Speaker 1: she's got some really deep, deep insecurities to even do
- 23:35Speaker 1: this or feel like, you know, she wants to make
- 23:37Speaker 1: sure that he still loves her, uh.
- 23:39Speaker 1: At the sacrifice of you, but that's coming from some pain,
- 23:43Speaker 1: some deep, deep pain. And I don't think she's purposely
- 23:47Speaker 1: doing it to you. She's only, you know, like all
- 23:50Speaker 1: 15 year olds, she's thinking about her needs, and she
- 23:53Speaker 1: doesn't know how to meet those needs. And so this
- 23:57Speaker 1: is kind of a negative way to do it. So
- 23:59Speaker 1: as you pray for her and as you pray.
- 24:01Speaker 1: As if you were her, you're going to get some
- 24:04Speaker 1: insights into what she's feeling. And if you would say
- 24:08Speaker 1: to your husband, like when he says that you could
- 24:11Speaker 1: say instead like be on her side with him and
- 24:14Speaker 1: say she must be hurting. What can we do to
- 24:18Speaker 1: let her know that we love her so much and
- 24:22Speaker 1: maybe suggest something positive, you know.
- 24:26Speaker 1: Um, another thing is like say to him, can we
- 24:30Speaker 1: pray together for her? Because I'm just feeling like she's
- 24:32Speaker 1: hurting right now and she doesn't even know why. And
- 24:36Speaker 1: if he begins to realize that this is her problem
- 24:40Speaker 1: because she's 15 and she's insecure, I think that you
- 24:44Speaker 1: and he can work together for her health. And I
- 24:48Speaker 1: want to say this too.
- 24:50Speaker 1: You didn't marry him. Marriage is a ministry, and when
- 24:55Speaker 1: you married him, you also married her.
- 25:00Speaker 1: And you married to be a minister to her, and
- 25:03Speaker 1: I think she needs you to be a good stepmom.
- 25:07Speaker 1: And to be a friend and to pray for her
- 25:11Speaker 1: because I don't know that there's anybody else who will
- 25:15Speaker 1: pray and feel her pain like you will as you
- 25:18Speaker 1: begin to pray and um.
- 25:21Speaker 1: I want you to know she's doing this because of
- 25:23Speaker 1: her own pain, not because you're a bad person or
- 25:26Speaker 1: you're a bad stepmom. But when he begins to turn,
- 25:31Speaker 1: say something like, I'm just feeling so much for her.
- 25:33Speaker 1: I wonder what she's feeling. Maybe we could just stop
- 25:36Speaker 1: and pray for her. And as you begin to pray
- 25:39Speaker 1: for her together and he realizes that you're not against
- 25:42Speaker 1: his daughter, you're not the enemy, you're not trying to
- 25:46Speaker 1: divide them.
- 25:47Speaker 1: But you're there also to love and to help her
- 25:51Speaker 1: because the healthier your relationship can be with her, the
- 25:54Speaker 1: healthier relationship will be with your husband. Um, so that
- 25:58Speaker 1: would be my suggestion and that's definitely a very, very
- 26:02Speaker 1: spiritual suggestion. But, um, I have found, you know, with
- 26:07Speaker 1: my own kids, it's prayer and in fact I, I
- 26:11Speaker 1: said to the Lord one time I said, Lord, if
- 26:13Speaker 1: all my kids.
- 26:15Speaker 1: If you will make them all walk with you, I
- 26:17Speaker 1: promise I'll never write a book on how to parent.
- 26:19Speaker 1: I will tell everyone it's grace and love and prayer.
- 26:24Speaker 1: And so those are, those are the things I think
- 26:27Speaker 1: with every child grace, love, and prayer, and lots of grace,
- 26:32Speaker 1: especially for a 15 year old. Lots of love. Love
- 26:35Speaker 1: covers a multitude of sins and lots and lots of prayer, um, and, uh.
- 26:41Speaker 1: There, there was a book written years ago like how
- 26:44Speaker 1: to get your kids uh to be on your side
- 26:47Speaker 1: and that's kind of the idea, like how can we
- 26:50Speaker 1: win her to Jesus? How can we, how can we
- 26:55Speaker 1: um bring healing into her hurting heart? Uh, you know,
- 26:59Speaker 1: I think that she probably does have issues with abandonment.
- 27:02Speaker 1: I think it would be hard.
- 27:03Speaker 1: If your dad left when you were little and you
- 27:05Speaker 1: felt that rejection and it might be being fed even
- 27:08Speaker 1: by her mom to some degree. And so if you're positive,
- 27:12Speaker 1: if you pray for her, if you talk to him
- 27:15Speaker 1: about praying for her and you both think of ways
- 27:18Speaker 1: to show her love, I think it could change everything.
- 27:22Speaker 1: Angelina, what do you think?
- 27:25Speaker 1: I think that's great. I really appreciate um all the advice. Um, actually,
- 27:31Speaker 1: my husband has full custody of, of her and, um, he, uh,
- 27:39Speaker 1: He, she was supposed to be out there for 3
- 27:42Speaker 1: years because he was working on himself like going through
- 27:45Speaker 1: medical school and all of that.
- 27:48Speaker 1: So she,
- 27:49Speaker 2: he's trying to bring her back and she wants to
- 27:51Speaker 2: stay
- 27:51Speaker 1: out there. Actually,
- 27:52Speaker 2: she came over about two years ago and she, I
- 27:54Speaker 2: asked her, please stay with us, and she said, no,
- 27:56Speaker 2: I want to be with my mom. Um, the mom
- 27:59Speaker 2: actually was the one that abandoned her.
- 28:01Speaker 1: Um, wow.
- 28:02Speaker 2: So wow, so it's, it's, it's a lot. It's more,
- 28:05Speaker 1: it is, you know, she's hurting, but she's hurting,
- 28:08Speaker 2: yeah, she is,
- 28:09Speaker 1: she is, and she's feeling responsible for her mom too.
- 28:12Speaker 1: I bet you she's the mom in that relationship.
- 28:16Speaker 2: Brian, got about a minute.
- 28:19Speaker 2: Um, yeah, I, I would just kind of reiterate what
- 28:22Speaker 2: Cheryl was saying. I was thinking, I was, I was
- 28:24Speaker 2: talking to somebody recently about a couple of young people
- 28:26Speaker 2: who are, you know, not sort of living up to
- 28:31Speaker 2: their potential and not really being responsible. And I, I
- 28:35Speaker 2: was talking to somebody who's, who's frustrated with them, you know,
- 28:39Speaker 2: and the tendency is to kind of just say, you know,
- 28:42Speaker 2: you lazy bums, you know, get your act together.
- 28:45Speaker 2: And, um, I said, you know, think of it differently.
- 28:49Speaker 2: Think of it as you're gonna come alongside and you're
- 28:51Speaker 2: going to be an encouragement to them, you know, because
- 28:53Speaker 2: it's not gonna do any good to tell them, you know,
- 28:55Speaker 2: they're lazy or to, or you to be combative. Um,
- 28:59Speaker 2: and I think like Cheryl was saying, I think if you,
- 29:02Speaker 2: you know, become a friend, that is, you know, you
- 29:05Speaker 2: still have parent parental authority, uh, but you're a friend,
- 29:09Speaker 2: but you're, you're a spiritual friend, a friend who's committed
- 29:12Speaker 2: to praying and things like that.
- 29:14Speaker 2: I think in situations like this, this is, this is
- 29:17Speaker 2: really the way to go.
- 29:19Speaker 1: Yeah, we want to see her saved and she's carrying
- 29:21Speaker 1: the weight of the world on her shoulders. Angelina, thanks
- 29:24Speaker 1: so much for calling in today to Pastor's Perspective. We're
- 29:26Speaker 1: gonna take a quick break and then we'll be back
- 29:28Speaker 1: with more of your questions. What would you like to
- 29:30Speaker 1: ask Brian and Cheryl Broderson today? They're gonna be here
- 29:33Speaker 1: till 4. The number to call is 888-564-6173. If you're
- 29:38Speaker 1: watching on Facebook, YouTube, or Instagram, you can call in.
- 29:41Speaker 1: The number's right there on the bottom of your screen.
- 29:43Speaker 1: You can also scan that QR code and that'll take
- 29:46Speaker 1: you to the pastor's perspective page at Kwave.com, where you
- 29:50Speaker 1: can submit your question online. We likely will not get
- 29:53Speaker 1: to that question today, but we will have it for
- 29:56Speaker 1: a future episode and then we'll send you an email
- 29:58Speaker 1: to let you know that we read it. But more
- 30:01Speaker 1: of your calls coming up on Pastor's perspective.
- 30:16Speaker 1: Hey, we're back on Pastor's Perspective.
- 30:18Speaker 2: 888-564-6173 is the number to call to speak with Brian
- 30:23Speaker 2: and Cheryl Broderson until 4 o'clock this Friday afternoon. 888-564-6173.
- 30:30Speaker 1: And here's
- 30:30Speaker 2: Matt
- 30:30Speaker 1: in
- 30:31Speaker 2: Irvine, listening on the K-Wave app. Hey, Matt, how can
- 30:34Speaker 2: we help you today?
- 30:37Speaker 2: How's it going? Thanks for taking my call. You're welcome.
- 30:41Speaker 2: And a special thanks to Cheryl and you, Brian Perez.
- 30:45Speaker 2: Last time I called in, it was in regards to.
- 30:49Speaker 2: The, uh, pre-existing text and you, Cheryl suggested an archaeological
- 30:54Speaker 2: Bible and you called the chapel store to see if
- 30:57Speaker 2: they had a copy and I went and bought it
- 30:59Speaker 2: and I liked it and went back and bought a
- 31:01Speaker 2: second copy for my dad.
- 31:03Speaker 1: Aren't they the best? I love those. I love all
- 31:06Speaker 1: the articles and um.
- 31:08Speaker 1: Everything I read my Bible, like I read all the
- 31:10Speaker 1: articles and all the little commentaries. I love that part.
- 31:13Speaker 1: I'm like, somebody took the time to put this in
- 31:16Speaker 1: and this is a lot of great information.
- 31:21Speaker 2: Yeah, it's pretty awesome. It's like candy.
- 31:23Speaker 1: Yeah, it is. I like it. It's a good candy.
- 31:26Speaker 2: I usually though, the, the, the words are too small
- 31:28Speaker 2: for me, so, uh, I usually read my own Bible
- 31:31Speaker 2: and then I, I look up the artifacts and the
- 31:33Speaker 2: things that they, they have that go along with it,
- 31:35Speaker 2: but definitely super cool. Thanks.
- 31:38Speaker 1: They do have this like a magnifying glass that's flat
- 31:43Speaker 1: that um is they have it at the chapel store
- 31:45Speaker 1: because I own one.
- 31:46Speaker 1: Um, that you can, um, just put a little bit
- 31:49Speaker 1: above the text and it makes it really easy to read.
- 31:53Speaker 1: That's for some of the little notes and, um,
- 31:57Speaker 1: I'll need it sometimes, depending on which pair of glasses
- 32:00Speaker 1: I wear. If I'm wearing my glasses that are the
- 32:02Speaker 1: most recent, uh, prescription, I'm fine. But if I'm wearing
- 32:05Speaker 1: one of my old pairs with it, it's about 23
- 32:08Speaker 1: years ago, I need that magnifying glass. So, anyway, just
- 32:13Speaker 1: Food for thought.
- 32:14Speaker 1: So what's up Matt?
- 32:15Speaker 2: What did you want to know today? I'm headed back
- 32:16Speaker 2: to the chapel
- 32:17Speaker 2: store. Yes, yes, OK, so, um.
- 32:21Speaker 2: This one's a little hard to unpack, um.
- 32:25Speaker 2: So we all talk about the, you know, the spiritual realm,
- 32:29Speaker 2: the world within a world. Chuck taught it, you've both
- 32:32Speaker 2: taught it. CS Lewis alluded to it in the screw
- 32:35Speaker 2: tape letters and even in Prince Caspian when.
- 32:39Speaker 2: You know, Lucy could see Aslin, but nobody else could, but, um.
- 32:44Speaker 2: Nowadays we have all these terms like turret syndrome, schizophrenia, um,
- 32:50Speaker 2: essentially terms that really didn't exist 2000 years ago. And.
- 32:56Speaker 2: Sometimes I question, I wonder if, if a lot of
- 32:58Speaker 2: things are.
- 33:00Speaker 2: That would be really demonic are dismissed as
- 33:05Speaker 2: Things like mental illness or schizophrenia,
- 33:09Speaker 2: um,
- 33:10Speaker 1: I think when we're talking pretty arrogant, yeah, or sociopaths
- 33:15Speaker 1: or psychopaths.
- 33:18Speaker 1: I think when you're talking about someone in general.
- 33:22Speaker 2: Like I, I see
- 33:23Speaker 1: things
- 33:24Speaker 2: like, I mean, like, you know, when you see like
- 33:26Speaker 2: one of these drag queens twerking in my kids, there's
- 33:29Speaker 2: there to me there's something seems a little more than
- 33:32Speaker 2: just mental illness, you know, when you see these, you know,
- 33:37Speaker 2: these transgender people marching in New York and.
- 33:41Speaker 2: You know, they're, they're making lewd acts and wagging their
- 33:44Speaker 2: tongues and they're chanting, we're coming for your children and stuff. They're,
- 33:49Speaker 2: to me there seems to be a little more than
- 33:51Speaker 2: just mental illness, but we don't really talk about whether
- 33:55Speaker 2: things are demonic or not. Um, I think I, I
- 34:00Speaker 2: question whether, whether things are just dismissed.
- 34:04Speaker 2: As mental illness, or do we think maybe there, maybe
- 34:09Speaker 2: there's less demonic activity than there was a few 1000
- 34:13Speaker 2: years ago? I think a lot of the things that
- 34:15Speaker 2: we see now.
- 34:17Speaker 2: I wonder if they would have been construed as demonic
- 34:20Speaker 2: back then.
- 34:21Speaker 1: Right? Well, you know, in Matthew, it talks about how
- 34:24Speaker 1: Jesus healed the tormented.
- 34:28Speaker 1: But then it also says he delivered the demonics. So
- 34:31Speaker 1: I think you've got a little bit of a difference there.
- 34:34Speaker 1: I think the tormented would be the mentally disturbed, the
- 34:38Speaker 1: mentally ill, and I think that the demonics are the demonic,
- 34:42Speaker 1: and I don't think that we, for us always that
- 34:45Speaker 1: we can tell the difference, um, but also I know
- 34:50Speaker 1: that Satan will take advantage of somebody who is, um, mentally.
- 34:56Speaker 1: Off and you know we've both, uh, we had a
- 34:59Speaker 1: wonderful uh guy, a couple in our church that were
- 35:02Speaker 1: schizophrenic and they, as long as they were on their medicine,
- 35:05Speaker 1: they were one of the sweetest, sweetest couples, but he
- 35:08Speaker 1: was inspired one day to jump off a bridge and
- 35:11Speaker 1: we knew that was a demonic inspiration, um, to him
- 35:16Speaker 1: so I think that Satan.
- 35:19Speaker 1: Uh, Satan is so merciless. He is so cruel. I,
- 35:23Speaker 1: I think we underestimate how absolutely barbaric and cruel and
- 35:28Speaker 1: destructive he is, and that he has no sympathy. In fact, there's, um,
- 35:35Speaker 1: there's a scripture in the Psalms that says the tender
- 35:37Speaker 1: mercies of the wicked are cruel.
- 35:40Speaker 1: Like the nicest they get is still so cruel. And so,
- 35:46Speaker 1: you know, to take advantage of somebody who is, is,
- 35:49Speaker 1: you know, mentally, it's the Bible talks about those who put, uh,
- 35:54Speaker 1: what do they call it, they put uh blocks in
- 35:57Speaker 1: front of the blind people because they used to like
- 35:59Speaker 1: to watch them trip and there are certain people that
- 36:02Speaker 1: are so um cruel.
- 36:05Speaker 1: And I think that is satanic and the satanic influence. Brian,
- 36:10Speaker 1: looks like you got some stuff to say.
- 36:13Speaker 2: I got some stuff to say.
- 36:15Speaker 2: Yeah, Matt, did you, um, have you ever read my
- 36:18Speaker 2: book on spiritual warfare?
- 36:22Speaker 2: I haven't, but I know, I know there's one out there.
- 36:25Speaker 2: I've heard you mention it before. Yeah, um, yeah, because
- 36:27Speaker 2: I talk about this in there, and you know, there's
- 36:31Speaker 2: like it's, it's due for a little bit of an update, but, um,
- 36:35Speaker 2: you know, I just go through a whole sort of
- 36:37Speaker 2: litany of things that are happening around us, even in
- 36:41Speaker 2: the culture that sometimes we fail to recognize that the
- 36:45Speaker 2: devil has a part in this, you know, so.
- 36:50Speaker 2: I think that um it.
- 36:53Speaker 2: You know, there, there's, there's a balance because there are
- 36:55Speaker 2: people who, um, you would see that are, um, you know,
- 37:03Speaker 2: maybe behaving really bizarrely and, uh, you would think like,
- 37:08Speaker 2: oh my gosh, they, you know, they must be demon possessed,
- 37:10Speaker 2: when in actuality, they truly are mentally ill. And the
- 37:15Speaker 2: evidence for that is that medication will bring them back
- 37:18Speaker 2: to a state of normalcy. So, if you
- 37:21Speaker 2: Or nor normalcy. So, if you, um, but, you know,
- 37:25Speaker 2: if it, if it's a truly a demonic thing, then
- 37:28Speaker 2: that medication isn't necessarily gonna do anything, uh, to help. So,
- 37:33Speaker 2: I think we have to be careful on both sides.
- 37:35Speaker 2: I think we have to be careful not to, you know,
- 37:38Speaker 2: kind of over, uh, state the case where, you know,
- 37:43Speaker 2: we just everything's demonic. But I think we also have
- 37:45Speaker 2: to be careful not to go to the other side
- 37:47Speaker 2: where we don't recognize that.
- 37:49Speaker 2: Uh, no, the the devil is at work. I mean,
- 37:51Speaker 2: I think of the stuff like lately that we've had
- 37:53Speaker 2: over the past few years, you know, you think of
- 37:55Speaker 2: the like the whole trans thing that just, you know,
- 37:59Speaker 2: became a contagion in the culture and all of these
- 38:02Speaker 2: mostly young women were all of a sudden just deciding
- 38:06Speaker 2: that they wanted to be boys or men.
- 38:10Speaker 2: And it's, you know, through the passing of time and
- 38:13Speaker 2: research that's been done, they basically concluded it was just
- 38:16Speaker 2: like a social contagion. It just took off in kind
- 38:20Speaker 2: of in the air. Well, we know that Satan is
- 38:23Speaker 2: the prince of the power of the air. And I
- 38:26Speaker 2: think when you see, um, anti-Semitism, for example, and you
- 38:30Speaker 2: see how it just has, um, you know, circled the
- 38:33Speaker 2: globe around, uh,
- 38:36Speaker 2: Uh, again and again and again, you think, well, how
- 38:39Speaker 2: is it that all of a sudden it seems like
- 38:41Speaker 2: everywhere there is this rise in anti-Semitism. Well, I think
- 38:46Speaker 2: that if you, if you fail to recognize the demonic
- 38:49Speaker 2: in that, I think you're, you're missing out on, on
- 38:52Speaker 2: a lot. So, so, but in my, anyway, in my book, um,
- 38:55Speaker 2: I have, I have a whole chapter where I kind
- 38:57Speaker 2: of deal with this. So yep,
- 38:59Speaker 2: the powers of darkness and the people of God.
- 39:02Speaker 1: By Pastor Brian Broderson. Matt,
- 39:04Speaker 2: thanks for
- 39:04Speaker 1: calling
- 39:04Speaker 2: in today
- 39:04Speaker 1: to Pastor's perspective,
- 39:06Speaker 2: and there was an article, uh, just a couple of
- 39:08Speaker 2: weeks ago that, uh,
- 39:09Speaker 1: teen girls identifying as lesbian or bisexual plummet in a
- 39:13Speaker 1: stunning
- 39:13Speaker 2: reversal, according to new data. Isn't that
- 39:16Speaker 2: amazing? Yeah, yeah.
- 39:18Speaker 2: All right, 888-564-6173. Gabriel in Santa
- 39:22Speaker 1: Fe
- 39:22Speaker 2: Springs. Hello, what's your question for Brian
- 39:24Speaker 1: and
- 39:24Speaker 2: Cheryl today?
- 39:26Speaker 2: I am conflicted. I am in a situation where
- 39:32Speaker 2: I work for a company, um.
- 39:36Speaker 2: Struggled through the last few years and it turns out
- 39:39Speaker 2: that the company owes.
- 39:41Speaker 2: A large sum of wages to us, uh, the 4 workers.
- 39:46Speaker 2: And I'm not sure what the Bible says, if anything,
- 39:49Speaker 2: about recovering owed wages. I don't want it to come
- 39:53Speaker 2: off like I'm petty or I'm trying to get a
- 39:55Speaker 2: pound of flesh or just money hungry or anything like that,
- 39:59Speaker 2: but it's not an in, you know, insignificant amount. It's
- 40:03Speaker 2: Potentially 6 figures per person.
- 40:06Speaker 2: And I want to know what does the Bible say
- 40:09Speaker 2: regarding
- 40:11Speaker 2: You know, recovering debt or, you know,
- 40:15Speaker 2: Employers owing wages, if anything.
- 40:18Speaker 1: Well, in James, it, it tells the employees that they're
- 40:21Speaker 1: supposed to pay their, their, uh, laborers, um, and that
- 40:25Speaker 1: God is upset with the, you know,
- 40:30Speaker 1: The, the masters who do not pay their employees what
- 40:33Speaker 1: they are due. And, you know, talks, so I, I
- 40:37Speaker 1: think that, you know, in the Bible when it would
- 40:40Speaker 1: talk about a slave and it, the master, really, you
- 40:44Speaker 1: don't have the kind of slavery that we had in
- 40:47Speaker 1: the United States in that instance. You're really talking about
- 40:50Speaker 1: an employer and an employee.
- 40:52Speaker 1: And over and over again Paul exhorts both the employee
- 40:56Speaker 1: to be responsible and to really do the best job,
- 40:59Speaker 1: but he also says the employers are to treat the workers, um,
- 41:05Speaker 1: and give the fair wages and realize that they're gonna
- 41:08Speaker 1: answer to God for what they're doing. So as far
- 41:11Speaker 1: as that, I think that, um, you have every right to, um.
- 41:18Speaker 1: To, uh, seek some type of recovery and compensation, especially
- 41:23Speaker 1: because you're not the only one. If you were the
- 41:25Speaker 1: only one, you could say, OK, God, I just give
- 41:27Speaker 1: you that. But, uh, the fact that you said there's, um,
- 41:31Speaker 1: a few of you that, that are owed this money, um,
- 41:36Speaker 1: I think that, um.
- 41:38Speaker 1: The first thing I would say would be to um
- 41:41Speaker 1: Proverbs 3 and 5,
- 41:44Speaker 1: 35, and 6, trust in the Lord and don't lean
- 41:47Speaker 1: on your own understanding, but really, you know, pray about
- 41:50Speaker 1: this and give this to the Lord and then I
- 41:52Speaker 1: would pray about maybe um legal counsel and maybe some
- 41:57Speaker 1: free legal counsel first, you know, just start with that and, uh,
- 42:01Speaker 1: you know, see, um, see, you know, uh what uh
- 42:06Speaker 1: they would say, uh, but I think that would be
- 42:09Speaker 1: all I can think of as far as scriptural.
- 42:13Speaker 2: So I, I've got a couple questions. Gabriel, is, uh,
- 42:18Speaker 2: are you still working there?
- 42:21Speaker 2: Um, for the moment they
- 42:24Speaker 2: They put us in a position after the founder passed
- 42:27Speaker 2: last year where we either buy the company or they're
- 42:30Speaker 2: closing it and they close, uh, the 31st of this month.
- 42:35Speaker 1: Oh my goodness, you poor thing.
- 42:37Speaker 2: This is,
- 42:37Speaker 2: this is and um.
- 42:41Speaker 2: Are, are they, are they Christians? Do they claim to
- 42:45Speaker 2: be Christians or not? I don't, I don't believe so. Yeah, right, um.
- 42:51Speaker 2: Yeah, I, I mean, like Cheryl said, I think biblically speaking,
- 42:54Speaker 2: I don't think there's any reason why you couldn't seek
- 42:59Speaker 2: the compensation that you're, that is your due, um.
- 43:05Speaker 2: I think just, um, you know, whether you'll be able
- 43:08Speaker 2: to do that, of course, is another story. So, but,
- 43:13Speaker 2: but I think to pursue that.
- 43:15Speaker 2: I, I don't think there's anything wrong with that. I mean,
- 43:18Speaker 2: unless God just really, you know, makes it clear like, hey,
- 43:22Speaker 2: I'm gonna take care of it. Don't worry about it.
- 43:25Speaker 2: Um, apart from that, I, I think pursuing, at least
- 43:29Speaker 2: finding out about what your options are, I think would be, um,
- 43:33Speaker 2: perfectly fine.
- 43:34Speaker 1: What do you think, Gabriel?
- 43:37Speaker 2: Yeah, I think, um, I mean, we did seek an
- 43:40Speaker 2: attorney and.
- 43:42Speaker 2: It went from, you know, hey, you know, is this
- 43:45Speaker 2: kind of
- 43:47Speaker 2: Legal, I guess, and they started digging into it and
- 43:50Speaker 2: it went way beyond what we ever questioned and they're
- 43:54Speaker 2: the ones that kind of came up with, uh.
- 43:57Speaker 2: A low figure they said would would only climb once
- 44:01Speaker 2: they dig deeper, but it's more or less just, you know, I,
- 44:05Speaker 2: I understand they, they saw our disclosure of what we
- 44:08Speaker 2: found as a threat.
- 44:10Speaker 2: And that was never our intent, and
- 44:13Speaker 2: Yeah, we're just conflicted about moving forward with it and
- 44:17Speaker 2: You know, we wanna ensure we all we all met
- 44:19Speaker 2: and ensure that we're not going after them for retribution
- 44:23Speaker 2: or pettiness or anything like that. It's literally just to
- 44:26Speaker 2: recover funds that we were owed that we all had to,
- 44:30Speaker 2: you know, drain savings or pull from retirements or things
- 44:34Speaker 2: to get by when it turns out.
- 44:37Speaker 2: Had the company paid us properly and had the funds
- 44:39Speaker 2: to those hardships never would have, would have been experienced.
- 44:43Speaker 2: And
- 44:43Speaker 1: you know, the company, I, I wanna say this, I
- 44:46Speaker 1: know you wanna stay on good terms with them, but
- 44:48Speaker 1: they're closing and they've been unfair and they've been manipulative
- 44:53Speaker 1: in the past.
- 44:55Speaker 1: And it sounds like they're continuing to be manipulative, and
- 44:58Speaker 1: you can't.
- 45:00Speaker 1: You know, you can't always, this is why sometimes it's
- 45:03Speaker 1: better just to handle it legally. So you don't have
- 45:06Speaker 1: to interact because it's not personal, but it's, it's righteous.
- 45:13Speaker 1: So that's what I would say.
- 45:15Speaker 1: Gabriel, thanks
- 45:16Speaker 2: for your phone
- 45:16Speaker 1: call
- 45:16Speaker 2: today here on Pastor's Perspective. Quick question from Larry and Montebello.
- 45:20Speaker 2: What's your question?
- 45:22Speaker 2: Yeah, they mentioned a Bible, uh, just like about 5-10
- 45:25Speaker 2: minutes ago, and Cheryl and, and Brian said they had one. They,
- 45:28Speaker 2: they liked it very much, and, uh, they said it
- 45:31Speaker 2: was small print. I would like to know, uh, what's
- 45:34Speaker 2: the name of that Bible cause I missed the name
- 45:35Speaker 2: of it. Do you
- 45:36Speaker 2: like small print Bibles?
- 45:37Speaker 1: Is that why you're calling
- 45:38Speaker 2: there? No, no, I, no, they mentioned it was a
- 45:41Speaker 2: small print. Oh,
- 45:42Speaker 1: we would recognize it.
- 45:43Speaker 2: You could tell me the name of that Bible.
- 45:45Speaker 1: It's, it's an archae.
- 45:46Speaker 1: Archaeological Bible. And so what we mean by archaeological is
- 45:51Speaker 1: it has these extra articles and it has pictures of
- 45:55Speaker 1: some of the discoveries that they have made in Israel
- 45:59Speaker 1: and the Middle East and even some in Italy.
- 46:03Speaker 1: That confirm uh everything that the, the Bible says about
- 46:09Speaker 1: certain times and certain places and certain people that have lived. Like,
- 46:14Speaker 1: for instance, one of them, there was a man named Erastus, uh,
- 46:17Speaker 1: who Paul talks about being a treasurer or, you know,
- 46:20Speaker 1: in Corinth. So he handled the money he had an
- 46:25Speaker 1: official position.
- 46:26Speaker 1: And people denied that Erastus ever lived or anything. And
- 46:29Speaker 1: then they found a threshold of a building in marble
- 46:33Speaker 1: and Erastus name was there with his position, um, as
- 46:39Speaker 1: treasurer of Corinth. And so there, it's just these proofs
- 46:42Speaker 1: that show you that the Bible is accurate historically, and
- 46:47Speaker 1: they're real faith builders.
- 46:48Speaker 2: So it's an archaeological study Bible,
- 46:50Speaker 1: an archaeological study
- 46:52Speaker 2: Bible, there's very.
- 46:53Speaker 2: um, versions of it like the ESV has one and
- 46:56Speaker 2: the NIV has one and NLT, so yeah, NLT. So,
- 47:00Speaker 2: but yeah, archae archaeological study Bible. Did you know the
- 47:03Speaker 2: last time I was in Corinth I went to Erastus'
- 47:06Speaker 2: um threshold?
- 47:07Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, no, I didn't. I did. That's good.
- 47:11Speaker 1: So Larry, you can call the chapel store at Calvary
- 47:14Speaker 1: Chapel Costa Mesa to see if they carry the archaeological Bible.
- 47:17Speaker 1: You can probably find it online, but, uh, uh,
- 47:20Speaker 2: they might be out since we're talking about it today.
- 47:23Speaker 2: They might have
- 47:23Speaker 2: run out. They might have a,
- 47:24Speaker 2: you know, a run on it.
- 47:26Speaker 1: Oh, we should give a free book with every Bible purchase.
- 47:29Speaker 1: Free book from the library. Uh, the number 714-540-2941. That's
- 47:35Speaker 1: for the chapel store. All right, uh, let's talk to
- 47:38Speaker 1: Lisette in Bell. Hello, Lisette. What did you want to
- 47:41Speaker 1: ask today? Hi. Hi, how are you? Doing well, thanks.
- 47:46Speaker 1: Um, I was calling because earlier I, I was on
- 47:50Speaker 1: the way, I was driving and I was listening, you know,
- 47:53Speaker 1: and someone called regarding mental illness and, um, saying if
- 47:58Speaker 1: it was diamonic and, um, the way he expressed himself
- 48:04Speaker 1: regarding mental illness, um, I don't think that he's very,
- 48:08Speaker 1: uh
- 48:09Speaker 1: Very informed because people that have a mental illness, they
- 48:14Speaker 1: don't go around twerking or, or being um in, in
- 48:18Speaker 1: certain situations like that. It's, it's actually a very um sensitive,
- 48:24Speaker 1: you know what, for a lot of people. Yeah, Lisette,
- 48:27Speaker 1: I think he was actually saying exactly what you're saying.
- 48:30Speaker 1: I think he was saying that people who are mentally
- 48:33Speaker 1: ill don't do these kind of things and therefore he
- 48:36Speaker 1: feels like someone who does this, it can't be, it's,
- 48:40Speaker 1: it's demonic because, you know, mentally ill people don't do
- 48:45Speaker 1: things like that. And I think that's exactly right. And
- 48:49Speaker 1: I think that was his point actually that this, this,
- 48:52Speaker 1: this is something that goes beyond that because this is not.
- 48:56Speaker 1: Because we understand that, you know, like I was saying,
- 48:59Speaker 1: we have this couple that were schizophrenic, they're precious, you know, wonderful,
- 49:03Speaker 1: and he just one day, uh, you know, he's, he was, um,
- 49:09Speaker 1: just tormented and it was like the enemy just was
- 49:12Speaker 1: saying to him jump off a bridge and he did
- 49:15Speaker 1: and so we're saying that the devil will just talk
- 49:19Speaker 1: to anybody, but sometimes when you're dealing with a mental illness,
- 49:23Speaker 1: you're more susceptible.
- 49:25Speaker 1: Um, to the voice of the devil, you know, and
- 49:28Speaker 1: the prodding. So I agree with you, Lisette, and I
- 49:31Speaker 1: think our caller also agreed with you that mental illness
- 49:34Speaker 1: is very real, and um, we thank God for the
- 49:41Speaker 1: medications that are available and we understand that the struggle
- 49:45Speaker 1: of those who have mental um.
- 49:49Speaker 1: Issues is so huge and we applaud them for um
- 49:56Speaker 1: their desire um to be kind and to be healthy.
- 50:03Speaker 1: Lisette, thanks for your phone call today on Pastor's Perspective.
- 50:06Speaker 1: And now here's Jay in Temecula who's watching us on YouTube.
- 50:09Speaker 1: So we'll wave hi to Jay. What's your question for us, Jay? Oh, hi, thanks. Uh,
- 50:14Speaker 1: my question is about Mark 8:24, chapter 8, verse 24,
- 50:19Speaker 1: and the reason this brought to mind because Cheryl was
- 50:21Speaker 1: talking about her glasses, and she was saying if she
- 50:24Speaker 1: uses her current pair, they work well, but if she doesn't,
- 50:27Speaker 1: she has to use magnifying glass, and wow, this verse
- 50:30Speaker 1: just popped in my head because I've always wondered about this.
- 50:33Speaker 1: So correct me if I'm wrong, this is the only
- 50:36Speaker 1: time that Jesus had to have two tries at a miracle,
- 50:39Speaker 1: a miracle. He tried it once, it didn't work right.
- 50:42Speaker 1: He did it again and it worked.
- 50:44Speaker 1: We know the man was probably not blind from birth
- 50:48Speaker 1: because he knew what trees looked like. He said, I
- 50:50Speaker 1: see men, but they look like trees. Jesus said, How
- 50:53Speaker 1: about now? And then he said, and, and then he
- 50:55Speaker 1: could see. Is that sort of like when you go
- 50:57Speaker 1: to the optometrist and they say, Is this better or
- 51:00Speaker 1: is that better? Is it one or is it 2?
- 51:02Speaker 1: You know what I'm talking about, Cheryl? I do, Jay.
- 51:05Speaker 1: I just had that recently because I had to get
- 51:07Speaker 1: my contacts upgraded.
- 51:09Speaker 1: Exactly. I don't, I think though that Jesus was giving
- 51:13Speaker 1: us a principle though that every healing is unique. And
- 51:17Speaker 1: I think he was showing us that sometimes there's a
- 51:21Speaker 1: process or there's more than one step to the healing.
- 51:25Speaker 1: And I think he wanted the man to say, I see,
- 51:29Speaker 1: but I don't see clearly. And I think there's a
- 51:32Speaker 1: spiritual component to that, that sometimes people get saved.
- 51:37Speaker 1: And they see, but because they don't press in, they'll,
- 51:40Speaker 1: they never quite see clearly. And I think that the
- 51:43Speaker 1: Lord wants us to press in and keep asking till
- 51:46Speaker 1: we see things clearly.
- 51:48Speaker 1: So that's how I, that's my take on it. But yes,
- 51:51Speaker 1: can you see it now? Can, does the A look
- 51:53Speaker 1: sharper to you? Is it clearer now? Yeah, you know,
- 51:57Speaker 2: just when you said that this verse just popped into
- 51:59Speaker 2: my head. I just, I love it.
- 52:01Speaker 1: I love it. Thank you so much, Jay. You brought
- 52:03Speaker 1: some levity. Thank you.
- 52:05Speaker 2: Did
- 52:05Speaker 1: you
- 52:05Speaker 2: want
- 52:05Speaker 1: to comment,
- 52:06Speaker 2: Brian? Did you have
- 52:06Speaker 2: any thoughts on that? Uh, no, I couldn't add a thing.
- 52:09Speaker 2: Brian
- 52:10Speaker 1: actually needs an upgrade pretty soon. It's been a while
- 52:14Speaker 1: since you've gotten your,
- 52:15Speaker 2: well.
- 52:16Speaker 1: I checked. I think it was with me.
- 52:19Speaker 2: It
- 52:19Speaker 2: was, but
- 52:20Speaker 1: I go to, but I get it regularly
- 52:22Speaker 2: when I get contacts. You don't have new glasses.
- 52:24Speaker 1: No, I don't. I have contacts, yeah,
- 52:26Speaker 2: right.
- 52:26Speaker 2: As long as I clean my glasses every week, once
- 52:29Speaker 2: a week, then I'm OK.
- 52:30Speaker 1: Seriously, sometimes I cannot see through my glasses and Brian's like,
- 52:34Speaker 1: Give me those glasses, and he'll take them and he'll
- 52:35Speaker 1: clean them. I'm like, Oh, I can see all things clearly,
- 52:38Speaker 1: kind of
- 52:38Speaker 2: like Jay was saying.
- 52:39Speaker 2: I put my glasses on and they're dirty. It drives
- 52:41Speaker 2: me absolutely out of my mind. She goes around for
- 52:44Speaker 2: days with like big blotches on them. How do you
- 52:47Speaker 2: see it? And
- 52:47Speaker 1: I'm like, Oh, that's what it is. I just thought
- 52:49Speaker 1: it was my sight, you know.
- 52:52Speaker 1: Nope, can't do the blotches either. I know what you mean.
- 52:54Speaker 1: Tony in Riverside, I think you'll be our last call
- 52:56Speaker 1: of the week. Hello.
- 52:58Speaker 2: Make it quick though cause we're running out of time.
- 53:01Speaker 2: Hi, how are you guys doing? Real quick, this is
- 53:03Speaker 2: the situation that I'm going through.
- 53:05Speaker 2: Uh, my question is, my
- 53:09Speaker 2: My son moved away from the house. He was raised
- 53:12Speaker 2: in the lower in Calvary.
- 53:14Speaker 2: He moved out with a girlfriend.
- 53:17Speaker 2: Everything was fine
- 53:19Speaker 2: They had a little girl, but some, for some reason
- 53:22Speaker 2: or another, my, her, his girlfriend, they're not even married.
- 53:25Speaker 2: His girlfriend uh
- 53:28Speaker 2: Choose not to have contact I guess with us or
- 53:31Speaker 2: with contact so we haven't seen our
- 53:33Speaker 1: granddaughter months.
- 53:36Speaker 2: In the past 4 years and then they just had
- 53:39Speaker 2: a new baby boy like 3 days ago, 1 week ago,
- 53:42Speaker 2: and we haven't seen him either so we're praying, we're fasting.
- 53:47Speaker 2: He grew up in the Lord, but she has a, she,
- 53:50Speaker 2: for some reason she has a non, no contact influencer
- 53:53Speaker 2: that he's following. I don't know if she's influencing my
- 53:56Speaker 2: sons or my son. He lives down the street from
- 53:58Speaker 2: my house. He hasn't come once in, in 4 years,
- 54:03Speaker 2: 3 years, 4 years. 00,
- 54:06Speaker 2: what would you guys say?
- 54:07Speaker 1: We have about a minute, I think just keep praying
- 54:10Speaker 1: like he's doing. I don't know that there's any other recourse,
- 54:13Speaker 1: but to really keep praying, you know, David said at
- 54:16Speaker 1: one point.
- 54:17Speaker 1: You know, morning, noon, and night, he just prayed and
- 54:20Speaker 1: he sought the Lord, and I think when things are
- 54:22Speaker 1: hard like that, press into prayer and let the pain
- 54:25Speaker 1: press you into prayer. I, I do think that it
- 54:28Speaker 1: would be great to, you know, just keep throwing out
- 54:30Speaker 1: the lifeline, you know, if there's any way to get
- 54:32Speaker 1: in touch to say we're here, we love you, we'd
- 54:36Speaker 1: love to have contact with you and just maybe just
- 54:38Speaker 1: keep throwing out the lifeline every, you know, when, when
- 54:41Speaker 1: an opportunity happens.
- 54:44Speaker 1: My friend Doctor Jim Burns wrote a book about this recently.
- 54:46Speaker 1: It's called When Your Adult Child Strays Trading Heartache for Hope.
- 54:50Speaker 1: That's a good book you might be able to find
- 54:52Speaker 1: at newlife.com. So, Tony, we're gonna be praying for you
- 54:56Speaker 1: and your family. Uh, thanks so much for calling in.
- 54:58Speaker 1: Everybody watching and listening will be praying for you as well.
- 55:01Speaker 1: But God bless you guys. Have a great weekend. We'll
- 55:04Speaker 1: you at church on Sunday, and we'll talk to you
- 55:06Speaker 1: again on Monday here on Pastor's Perspective. We're gonna archive
- 55:09Speaker 1: today's episode as a podcast on Facebook, YouTube, Apple Podcasts,
- 55:14Speaker 1: and Spotify, in case you missed any part of it
- 55:16Speaker 1: or just want to hear it again. So, talk to
- 55:19Speaker 1: you next time here on Pastor's Perspective. For Brian and
- 55:21Speaker 1: Cheryl Broderson, I'm Brian Perez. Bye-bye.
