- 1:06Speaker 4: of us here for the entire duration of development Camp,
- 1:09Speaker 4: especially here for today.
- 1:11Speaker 3: We just love Kenny and crew.
- 1:13Speaker 4: I Mike Beton ever it fits you to dust off

- 1:21Speaker 4: is here with us.
- 1:22Speaker 3: You knocked that thing out of the park man.
- 1:24Speaker 2: That was fun, Thank you man. It was fine. Like
- 1:26Speaker 2: I've never done pa outside of the Pride Classic that
- 1:31Speaker 2: we do here every year occasional. You know, things like
- 1:36Speaker 2: it's fun to do something.
- 1:38Speaker 5: Different and to have some fun with it, and you
- 1:40Speaker 5: know it's We're playing hockey in July right like my
- 1:44Speaker 5: favorite part of the year, the Cracking right now officially
- 1:47Speaker 5: as July one turned the new league clock.
- 1:50Speaker 2: The Seattle Cracking are in first place, so why not.
- 1:52Speaker 4: Be everyone zero and zero and zero.
- 1:55Speaker 2: But the Seattle Cracking are in first place.
- 1:57Speaker 4: Exactly, so I don't care about it.
- 1:59Speaker 3: That's the most important.
- 2:00Speaker 2: I don't care about everyone else. I care that the
- 2:02Speaker 2: Seattle Cracking are in first place right now in the
- 2:05Speaker 2: National Hockey League, don't no matter what the record is,
- 2:07Speaker 2: Aron Brikkay. But no, it was fun. I really enjoyed
- 2:11Speaker 2: being able to see these guys, our prospects and in
- 2:13Speaker 2: the top players that hopefully are going to be wearing
- 2:16Speaker 2: some Cracking uniforms sooner rather than later.
- 2:19Speaker 3: They gave us a nice fun taste.
- 2:21Speaker 4: As far as hockey, which we have dearly miss. We're
- 2:23Speaker 4: about really at the halfway point of this offseason finally,
- 2:27Speaker 4: so September opening night is closer than you think, and
- 2:31Speaker 4: it just kind of feels like maybe a long time
- 2:33Speaker 4: ago now that we were getting off the plane from
- 2:35Speaker 4: Denver and the regular season is in the rear view mirror.
- 2:37Speaker 4: But we got a lot to get to. We're gonna
- 2:39Speaker 4: hear one on ones during this podcast with Chase Reid,
- 2:43Speaker 4: the man of the hour last week and maybe the
- 2:45Speaker 4: centerpiece all of a sudden now of this blossoming crack
- 2:48Speaker 4: and farm system. Additionally, Jacob Brian, great conversation with him,
- 2:52Speaker 4: and our check in with John Foresland. Our time was
- 2:55Speaker 4: cut short during our Draft show coverage and we had
- 2:58Speaker 4: a lot to get into as far as getting into
- 3:00Speaker 4: the weeds with the crack and draft free agency that
- 3:03Speaker 4: Jason robertson fallout and the implications here for the future
- 3:08Speaker 4: with free agency already underway from day one, John Forestland
- 3:12Speaker 4: joining us here in just a bit.
- 3:14Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, it's been an active summer already. There's
- 3:18Speaker 2: been a lot of cracking.
- 3:19Speaker 4: Dude.
- 3:20Speaker 3: This is chaos ball.
- 3:21Speaker 4: It is.
- 3:21Speaker 3: It's almost well.
- 3:24Speaker 2: And even you know, I look at the first couple
- 3:26Speaker 2: of days in free agency, and I obviously as a
- 3:31Speaker 2: team employee, you know, we get to travel around the
- 3:35Speaker 2: league and we're in the know about a lot of things,
- 3:38Speaker 2: and your takes and your opinions and your thoughts have
- 3:42Speaker 2: to be measured and they have to be well thought out.
- 3:45Speaker 2: I will say though, in the summertime fits he goes
- 3:48Speaker 2: full fan and I'm watching these notifications come in. I'm like,
- 3:52Speaker 2: he got what this guy got?
- 3:54Speaker 6: How?
- 3:55Speaker 4: We had plenty of those on July one, didn't We.
- 3:57Speaker 2: We traded who for who?
- 4:00Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 4:00Speaker 2: Man, it's it's been it's been a wild summer. It's
- 4:02Speaker 2: been chaos ball. But I think you know, I'll start
- 4:05Speaker 2: here in Seattle with the move that the moves that
- 4:08Speaker 2: Jason Boschel has made your number one, you know, top
- 4:12Speaker 2: priority going into this summer was getting Bobby McMahon back
- 4:16Speaker 2: under contract. You did, and I think a pretty good
- 4:19Speaker 2: cat pit.
- 4:20Speaker 6: Was it?
- 4:20Speaker 2: Six years and five? Seven five? Like, that's a pretty
- 4:23Speaker 2: good cat pit. You and I and Al and even
- 4:25Speaker 2: Ian and a few folks were talking going into the
- 4:27Speaker 2: summer that I could see that upwards of six and
- 4:30Speaker 2: a half. Do you give them seven. So I think
- 4:32Speaker 2: that was a really good deal. And the thing that
- 4:34Speaker 2: and we talked about this on the Draft Show last week,
- 4:36Speaker 2: the thing that I really liked and like about Bobby
- 4:41Speaker 2: McMahon he wants to be here. And I've always been
- 4:44Speaker 2: a big proponent of I don't care who you are.
- 4:46Speaker 2: I don't care if you're Connor McDavid, right, if you
- 4:49Speaker 2: don't want to be here, if you don't want to
- 4:51Speaker 2: be a part of this, I don't want you here.
- 4:54Speaker 2: And a guy like Bobby McMahon is a player who
- 4:56Speaker 2: wants to be here. He wants to win here, he
- 4:58Speaker 2: wants to be a part of the that foundation that
- 5:01Speaker 2: turns this organization around. So I like that move. I
- 5:05Speaker 2: love the Maki Samuskevitch move. I think when you bring
- 5:08Speaker 2: in a twenty three year old player who's got one
- 5:11Speaker 2: hundred and forty some on NHL games, he's got a
- 5:14Speaker 2: lot of upside, he has a Stanley Cup. But when
- 5:17Speaker 2: you're playing in Florida, you're behind a number of guys who,
- 5:20Speaker 2: lets his face, it aren't gonna be giving up any
- 5:22Speaker 2: ice time anytime soon. So now you bring him here
- 5:24Speaker 2: to Seattle. The staff is high on him, a lot
- 5:28Speaker 2: of the pundits and a lot of the folks that
- 5:29Speaker 2: you read, they're also very high on him as well.
- 5:32Speaker 2: So I'm very very excited about Mackey Samuskevitch and what
- 5:36Speaker 2: he's gonna bring. And then you know, I like the
- 5:38Speaker 2: Curtis Douglas signing. You bring in a lot of size,
- 5:40Speaker 2: you bring in some protection, And you and I were
- 5:44Speaker 2: even talking about this, Mike, where you know, Jacob Mallanson
- 5:48Speaker 2: plays such a physical, important third fourth line role for
- 5:54Speaker 2: this team, and there were a lot of times this
- 5:57Speaker 2: season that Jacob Malanson was called on to be the
- 6:02Speaker 2: physical presence and it can take a toll on you.
- 6:04Speaker 2: So now you bringing a guy like Curtis Douglas, who
- 6:07Speaker 2: you know, is I think going to be battling for
- 6:09Speaker 2: that eleven twelve thirteen forward spot slash your first option
- 6:15Speaker 2: out of Coachello Valley. I think he's got a lot
- 6:18Speaker 2: of potential for this roster as well. So I mean
- 6:21Speaker 2: it's been a lot of calculated I think, free agency wise,
- 6:25Speaker 2: a lot of calculated, a lot of measured moves for
- 6:29Speaker 2: Jason and his staff, And I'm on board.
- 6:31Speaker 4: Here's where I go with free agency because I love
- 6:35Speaker 4: the Brian Burke quote where there are two days during
- 6:39Speaker 4: the year where some gms can just absolutely lose their minds.
- 6:44Speaker 4: One is a trade deadline, yep. The other is free agency.
- 6:48Speaker 4: We all knew that the free agency class was paper thin.
- 6:52Speaker 4: We all knew, just based on the Jason bottlel forecast
- 6:56Speaker 4: that the Kraken weren't going to be major players on
- 7:00Speaker 4: July one. And pardon the cliche, but sometimes the best
- 7:03Speaker 4: moves that you can make are ones that you do
- 7:06Speaker 4: not make at all. And how much money did we
- 7:08Speaker 4: see go out the door for a lot of guys. Yes,
- 7:11Speaker 4: they can be useful in bottom six rolls, but how
- 7:14Speaker 4: useful would they be on this crack and roster? And
- 7:18Speaker 4: it's pretty clear we'll hear a little bit about this
- 7:19Speaker 4: here from Jason Bottrel as far as how free agency
- 7:22Speaker 4: works into this equation, how the young prospect pipeline works
- 7:27Speaker 4: into this equation. There is certainly a move that you
- 7:30Speaker 4: want to make to make yourself better, but we all
- 7:33Speaker 4: know where that glaring need is, and it is within
- 7:36Speaker 4: your top line. Beyond that, you want to find a
- 7:39Speaker 4: way to at least help Berkeley Cat and get better,
- 7:42Speaker 4: find more confidence in this lineup. Maybe Oscar Fisco Mulgard,
- 7:46Speaker 4: maybe Jacob Malansen and others, and let's just say down
- 7:50Speaker 4: the road shake O'Brien and Jase reed well.
- 7:52Speaker 2: And I think perception is reality too. If you're a GM,
- 7:55Speaker 2: and I'm not saying Jason, I'm saying if you're any
- 7:57Speaker 2: one of the thirty two gms in this league, perception
- 8:02Speaker 2: is reality, and it can be very very easy. You're
- 8:06Speaker 2: going into the summer, you didn't have the year that
- 8:08Speaker 2: you wanted. You know that you need to make moves
- 8:10Speaker 2: and upgrade the team. You want ownership off your back,
- 8:13Speaker 2: you want the fans off your back. And again, it's
- 8:15Speaker 2: not just here, it's all thirty two markets around North America.
- 8:20Speaker 2: It can be really easy to make a move just
- 8:23Speaker 2: for the sake of making a move, signing a guy
- 8:26Speaker 2: that you either really don't need or that is maybe
- 8:30Speaker 2: nice to have. However, you probably can do just as
- 8:36Speaker 2: well without spending X amount of dollars of your cap.
- 8:39Speaker 2: And I felt like, again, the moves that that Bots made,
- 8:44Speaker 2: I thought were calculated, they were measured. There. He didn't
- 8:47Speaker 2: make a move to just make a move, And I
- 8:51Speaker 2: think that's so important. And we can talk and argue
- 8:54Speaker 2: about the direction of the team and what that means
- 8:58Speaker 2: moving forward. But but I do think that you're going
- 9:03Speaker 2: to see a lot of the youth on display this season.
- 9:08Speaker 2: I think you're gonna see a lot of what we
- 9:12Speaker 2: hope think the future will be for this team. But
- 9:18Speaker 2: but again, I'm very optimistic the last couple of weeks.
- 9:23Speaker 2: You know, from from the draft up until up until today,
- 9:27Speaker 2: you know, I'm pretty optimistic about where this team's at it.
- 9:30Speaker 4: I think also within this scope also brings a question
- 9:33Speaker 4: of what do you do to make your team better
- 9:35Speaker 4: from the outset. We touched on this about a few
- 9:37Speaker 4: minutes ago, and it's obvious that there's a big top
- 9:40Speaker 4: line question here to figure out how do you attack that.
- 9:43Speaker 4: Though there was nothing in free agency with you know,
- 9:45Speaker 4: the krag and took their swing already at Jason Robertson,
- 9:48Speaker 4: but it's pretty clear that he had one motiv and
- 9:50Speaker 4: was to stay in Dallas. I think for me, again,
- 9:53Speaker 4: for now, it's unfair.
- 9:54Speaker 3: Yeah, really he's still not signed.
- 9:56Speaker 4: We saw Zacharinsky, apparently he was on the market, and
- 9:59Speaker 4: now he is off the market. My goodness, that opened
- 10:02Speaker 4: up a brand new can of worms, not just for Dallas,
- 10:04Speaker 4: but also for Columbus. I also get here to the
- 10:07Speaker 4: part where I think a lot of the conversation about
- 10:11Speaker 4: where the Kraken are has gotten the borderline unfair. Just
- 10:15Speaker 4: from the standpoint of do players want to come play here?
- 10:18Speaker 4: I think the answer is absolutely because as far as
- 10:22Speaker 4: what you offer from an organization standpoint, does the ownership
- 10:26Speaker 4: want to win? The answer is a clear cut yes.
- 10:29Speaker 4: Do you have a state of the yar practice facility
- 10:31Speaker 4: where you live, work and play and try to get better?
- 10:34Speaker 4: The answer is a clear cut yes. Is this a
- 10:37Speaker 4: desirable market to come play in? Ask the Seahawks with
- 10:40Speaker 4: their player retention? Yesa one, now two Lombardi trophies. But
- 10:44Speaker 4: the answer is a clear cut yes. But that's a hint.
- 10:47Speaker 4: What do you do to finally blow the entire doors
- 10:51Speaker 4: down on getting who you want whenever you want? The
- 10:55Speaker 4: clear cut answer is winning. So now where do you
- 10:58Speaker 4: take that next step? This is where Jason Borel said
- 11:01Speaker 4: these conversations could get deeper and deeper into the summer.
- 11:05Speaker 4: Do they swing a deal to get Alex to brink it?
- 11:07Speaker 4: How attractive would that be? I think it would be
- 11:10Speaker 4: a big ad. We'll see if he's free. I mean,
- 11:13Speaker 4: do you take other swings to see if players can
- 11:16Speaker 4: produce with you know, projections in line with like say
- 11:20Speaker 4: Mackie Samuskevitch say, I'm throwing names out there just basin reports.
- 11:24Speaker 4: Could Adam fan Tilly be an offer sheet thing? Who knows?
- 11:27Speaker 4: I mean, his game is already busted down thirty goals,
- 11:30Speaker 4: that's a matter of question. Kent Johnson, does Owen tip
- 11:33Speaker 4: it maybe fit into this. This is all part of
- 11:36Speaker 4: what's going to be very very important to figure out
- 11:38Speaker 4: who's going to fit for this top line. But so
- 11:40Speaker 4: there are plenty of options out there as of July second. Yeah, no,
- 11:43Speaker 4: there are.
- 11:44Speaker 2: And I think, you know, I go back to Jason's
- 11:46Speaker 2: comments the other day when he said that, you know,
- 11:49Speaker 2: you want to add to this team, but you don't
- 11:51Speaker 2: want to get in the way of players in their development.
- 11:54Speaker 2: And I think you can do that by adding, you know,
- 11:58Speaker 2: a bona fie top line player that that is still
- 12:01Speaker 2: the one thing that this team is looking to add.
- 12:04Speaker 2: I remember, you know, I know john was was talking
- 12:06Speaker 2: and we're gonna hear from him coming up in a second.
- 12:08Speaker 2: But a guy like Maddy Beniers, like he has firmly
- 12:10Speaker 2: solidified himself as a number two center. In this league season,
- 12:14Speaker 2: you need a one seed, which is hard to find. Right.
- 12:16Speaker 2: A lot of a lot of teams look at the
- 12:18Speaker 2: top one seas in the NHL. Most of them were
- 12:21Speaker 2: drafted after a long period of of an albatross, of
- 12:28Speaker 2: of purgatory for some teams around the league. So you
- 12:32Speaker 2: have to remember that. But I, you know the names
- 12:34Speaker 2: you mentioned, Mark Chenko to brink it, those players are
- 12:38Speaker 2: our top line guys. Yeah, they're wingers. Robertson's a winger.
- 12:42Speaker 2: Those are top line guys. But I do think if
- 12:45Speaker 2: you can bring those guys in and still get the
- 12:50Speaker 2: most out of your young player line, they drive a line.
- 12:53Speaker 2: And you know what, you and I were talking about
- 12:55Speaker 2: it too. We were having some hypotheticals, uh you know
- 12:57Speaker 2: in the summertime, and and one of my hypotheticals is
- 13:00Speaker 2: go out and get like a Patrick Kane, Right. You
- 13:02Speaker 2: know he's thirty six, thirty seven years old. Sure he's
- 13:05Speaker 2: on the back nine, the back five of his career. Right,
- 13:08Speaker 2: he's an amen corner coming around the back. But you
- 13:11Speaker 2: know he's a guy that's won. He is a skill
- 13:14Speaker 2: talented player. Berkeley Catton, Jacobrien, Maddy Beniers. They can learn
- 13:20Speaker 2: a lot from a player like that, so you know
- 13:23Speaker 2: he comes in there, he can play the Crash Davis role.
- 13:25Speaker 2: He can be the mentor that helps find the game.
- 13:28Speaker 2: And again, this is just the conversation that you and
- 13:30Speaker 2: I had, so you can still go out and get
- 13:33Speaker 2: guys who will help your team, but who will not
- 13:38Speaker 2: stunt the growth of what is presumed to be the
- 13:42Speaker 2: future of the franchise.
- 13:43Speaker 4: We're gonna get to John Forestland here in a bit.
- 13:46Speaker 4: Before that, a couple of players that we had to
- 13:48Speaker 4: catch up with here from Crack and Development Camp, first
- 13:52Speaker 4: round draft picks and potentially a big piece of the future.
- 13:55Speaker 4: Chase Reed picked this year, of course, first round, seventh overall.
- 14:00Speaker 4: Jacobrien last year pick first round at eighth overall. Beginning
- 14:05Speaker 4: with the player at center who was trying to bust
- 14:08Speaker 4: his way down now to the pro ranks. Potentially he
- 14:10Speaker 4: could play this year in Coachella Valley, Jacobrien, where does
- 14:15Speaker 4: that next step come? Here's our conversation one on one
- 14:19Speaker 4: from Kracking Community ice Plex joining us now jac O'Brien
- 14:22Speaker 4: cracking draft pick first round from this last year, but
- 14:25Speaker 4: looks like he has gotten taller, gotten bigger as well.
- 14:27Speaker 4: I'm great to see you. You made a great impression.
- 14:29Speaker 4: What were your thoughts though I'm being here for a
- 14:31Speaker 4: few days, Jake.
- 14:32Speaker 7: Yeah, obviously I was more relax this year. The World
- 14:35Speaker 7: win of last year with the draft combine and everything,
- 14:38Speaker 7: you didn't know where you were going to be at
- 14:39Speaker 7: after that draft, So I'm definitely more relaxed here and.
- 14:43Speaker 3: It's definitely less stressful for sure.
- 14:44Speaker 4: What would you have told your eighteen year old self
- 14:47Speaker 4: last year if you could go back into a time
- 14:50Speaker 4: machine and explain, this is what's going to happen, this
- 14:53Speaker 4: is how it's going to work out.
- 14:57Speaker 7: Maybe just say I was pretty stressed out leading up
- 15:00Speaker 7: the draft, even even a few weeks before it, just
- 15:02Speaker 7: because you know, there's so much talk over it and
- 15:05Speaker 7: it's hard to zone it out. So maybe just trying
- 15:08Speaker 7: to zone it out more and just take it all in.
- 15:11Speaker 3: Well, it sais you?
- 15:11Speaker 4: On course, what was a pretty productive year regardless, and
- 15:15Speaker 4: yet coming up for this next season, we'll see where
- 15:17Speaker 4: the path leads here, certainly, But how do you feel
- 15:19Speaker 4: that you grew as a player physically mentally as well
- 15:24Speaker 4: right now versus one year ago?
- 15:26Speaker 7: Yeah, I thought I got a lot better out of
- 15:28Speaker 7: other things that I lacked last year with my defensive play.
- 15:32Speaker 7: Face offs were a bit better, but they still need
- 15:33Speaker 7: to get better and just playing faster, playing quicker.
- 15:38Speaker 3: So I thought I improved this year, but there's a
- 15:40Speaker 3: there's another stuff I need to take next year. What's
- 15:42Speaker 3: the key defensively with getting better at your age?
- 15:46Speaker 7: Doing video is one thing, and then just being defensively minded.
- 15:50Speaker 7: I'm not looking for offense too much and just letting
- 15:53Speaker 7: it come.
- 15:54Speaker 4: Jacobrien joining us here again from Crank and Development Camp.
- 15:56Speaker 4: And it's often said that we can talk about guys
- 15:58Speaker 4: that you know, you love to watch and they may,
- 16:01Speaker 4: you know, change her after a year just from an
- 16:02Speaker 4: NHL scale, But uh, you know, who have you been
- 16:05Speaker 4: watching most recently as far as trying to take from
- 16:08Speaker 4: parts of their game and apply to yours also, well,
- 16:10Speaker 4: I like to I like to say why Johnson.
- 16:13Speaker 7: I like watching just how Poisy is with the park
- 16:15Speaker 7: and how skilled he is, and I was able to
- 16:17Speaker 7: put it back in the back of the that so
- 16:18Speaker 7: I think he's a really good young player in the league.
- 16:21Speaker 7: Then I like watching Nikititi kutcher Off too, just what
- 16:25Speaker 7: he thinks the game in his passing ability to He's
- 16:27Speaker 7: really fun to watch.
- 16:28Speaker 4: So Corey Murphy had a good conversation with the media
- 16:30Speaker 4: earlier just about the long term plan and then and
- 16:33Speaker 4: the philosophy that a lot of these guys will take
- 16:35Speaker 4: away as they get deeper into the summer. I think
- 16:38Speaker 4: for you check it in regularly with Corey. What have
- 16:40Speaker 4: those conversations meant to you? Also as far as your growth, Yeah.
- 16:45Speaker 2: We'll just just taking it to us up at a time.
- 16:48Speaker 7: Obviously I'm still young, so stayment, taking it one summer
- 16:52Speaker 7: out of time, getting better each day and coming into
- 16:55Speaker 7: camp bigger and stronger this year.
- 16:57Speaker 3: What does this summer mean to you?
- 17:00Speaker 7: It's it's one of the It's probably the biggest summer
- 17:02Speaker 7: my career so far because I could be taking a
- 17:05Speaker 7: step into Pearl Hockey this year, so it's obviously gonna
- 17:09Speaker 7: be the biggest jump I I've I've been a part of.
- 17:12Speaker 7: So I need a bigger, stronger, faster and get better
- 17:14Speaker 7: at everything.
- 17:15Speaker 4: So where do you want to take the biggest jump?
- 17:17Speaker 4: Is it more the physical side? You know how much
- 17:19Speaker 4: you weigh, how much more faster you are? The skill
- 17:21Speaker 4: part of it?
- 17:23Speaker 7: I said, I say, just getting stronger because that'll that'll
- 17:25Speaker 7: help my quickness. That'll me not getting pushed off the
- 17:28Speaker 7: pucks in the next level.
- 17:30Speaker 3: So I think that's the biggest.
- 17:31Speaker 8: Thing for me.
- 17:32Speaker 4: Is the more weight room tim or is it more
- 17:33Speaker 4: nutrition you think the matters the most. It's both.
- 17:38Speaker 7: Obviously I'm gonna be in the gym every day, I'm
- 17:39Speaker 7: gonna trained hard, so but if I'm not, if I
- 17:42Speaker 7: don't have good nutrition, I won't get any weight.
- 17:44Speaker 4: So it's kind of both. How much has nutrition changed
- 17:47Speaker 4: for you over this last year.
- 17:49Speaker 7: I've always been pretty good with my nutrition and the
- 17:51Speaker 7: summers and stuff, but just keeping track of my calories,
- 17:55Speaker 7: trying to get to four thousand days is a big.
- 17:57Speaker 4: Thing for me. We've heard a lot about and I'm
- 17:58Speaker 4: not gonna gloss the report that calories. I mean, that
- 18:01Speaker 4: is a lot. But for how about you guys are
- 18:02Speaker 4: burning and shirting. In me, you have to kind of
- 18:04Speaker 4: fuel the body so the body can certainly process. So
- 18:07Speaker 4: usually what's on the plate for you these days, we'll
- 18:11Speaker 4: just trying to.
- 18:11Speaker 7: Get at a good breakfast, and it sometimes tough because
- 18:13Speaker 7: I work out early in the morning.
- 18:15Speaker 3: So just how many eggs, how many eggs?
- 18:18Speaker 7: I'm not a big egg guy. I'll try to get
- 18:20Speaker 7: three in me and some hash runs bacon stuff. But
- 18:25Speaker 7: I feel like right after my workout is the biggest
- 18:27Speaker 7: time to get some protein in. I usually have two
- 18:30Speaker 7: protein shakes right after I work out, and I get
- 18:32Speaker 7: home and have a big meal, So I feel like
- 18:34Speaker 7: that's the most important meal all.
- 18:35Speaker 4: The name for me, and an alternate universe of calvaries
- 18:38Speaker 4: don't count. What's your one go to cheat meal? I
- 18:44Speaker 4: just say a burger, even though I usually eat.
- 18:47Speaker 7: Burgers because they are good with calories and stuff, but maybe,
- 18:52Speaker 7: like a wednesburger probably would be my cheat meal.
- 18:55Speaker 4: And the craziest thing is that, you know, as compared
- 18:57Speaker 4: to the other cheap meal things that you can eat pizza,
- 19:00Speaker 4: chicken tendors, I mean, and Broger's got kind of you know,
- 19:02Speaker 4: all those same things that you need to kind of
- 19:03Speaker 4: feel yourself in, like the protein part of it, to
- 19:06Speaker 4: lettuce tomato, to even cheese as well. Right, yeah, exactly,
- 19:09Speaker 4: So it's not too bad with Jcobrien. Once again, from
- 19:12Speaker 4: Cracking Development Campus, we round out to what's going ahead
- 19:14Speaker 4: of here for for this next year. Coachella Valley is
- 19:17Speaker 4: where you spend a little bit of time and maybe
- 19:19Speaker 4: you could have used a little bit more of it.
- 19:20Speaker 4: But what were four games in the postseason or how
- 19:24Speaker 4: did four games in the postseason measure up to kind
- 19:27Speaker 4: of give you a taste of what to expect at
- 19:28Speaker 4: the pro level.
- 19:29Speaker 7: Yeah, well, obviously jumping in from junior hockey, it's a
- 19:32Speaker 7: big step, especially jumping into the playoffs too, where it
- 19:36Speaker 7: takes a ram from the regular season. Yeah, it was.
- 19:38Speaker 7: It was different hockey, a lot more physical, Guys were fast,
- 19:41Speaker 7: guys were quicker, and a lot more structure. So it
- 19:45Speaker 7: was it was good to get my fee wet. I
- 19:46Speaker 7: know what to expect for next year and I feel
- 19:48Speaker 7: like that will really help me.
- 19:49Speaker 3: Do you have one specific welcome to the pro's moment?
- 19:54Speaker 7: I want to say one specific, but like in junior,
- 19:57Speaker 7: I feel like you're able to enter the zone and
- 19:58Speaker 7: kind of calmly and guys that don't pack check as much.
- 20:01Speaker 7: Everyone and in the pro level is coming back with
- 20:05Speaker 7: a full head of steam.
- 20:06Speaker 3: So I think that's the biggest.
- 20:06Speaker 4: Thing I'm certain that you've heard and a course you've
- 20:09Speaker 4: seen with what to expect once you make the NHL
- 20:12Speaker 4: level with climb and pledge arena, the facilities, addressing room,
- 20:15Speaker 4: all of that. But what was your first taste off
- 20:16Speaker 4: Coachella Valley and what they had to offer as well.
- 20:19Speaker 7: Yeah, obviously it's a really really nice place, really nice facilities.
- 20:23Speaker 7: They have a chef cooking us food there too, so
- 20:26Speaker 7: it was top notes for sure. It was also cool
- 20:28Speaker 7: planting arena's very nice.
- 20:30Speaker 3: So how often do you play golf?
- 20:32Speaker 4: I try to get out once a week or once
- 20:35Speaker 4: every two weeks.
- 20:35Speaker 3: Yeah, I'm all right, what's the strongest part of your game?
- 20:38Speaker 4: The driver? The irons are putting us my driver usually yeah,
- 20:41Speaker 4: what are you bonded like over three hundred ten?
- 20:43Speaker 7: Usually my driver, but then my wadge is all.
- 20:46Speaker 3: Right, drive for show, putt fordill right.
- 20:49Speaker 4: As you finally move into this next season, we touched on,
- 20:52Speaker 4: of course what those four games meant. But you know,
- 20:56Speaker 4: ultimately at the end of this for this next year,
- 21:00Speaker 4: where do you hope to take the biggest step as
- 21:02Speaker 4: far as what you're all about as a player one
- 21:05Speaker 4: year from now.
- 21:06Speaker 7: I think just getting more mature and being out there,
- 21:10Speaker 7: just being more defensive sound and being a good two
- 21:12Speaker 7: a centerman.
- 21:13Speaker 3: That's what I want to shy for.
- 21:14Speaker 4: Certainly, you've taken big steps here and this crowd walked
- 21:17Speaker 4: away pretty amazed at you and the rest. Finally, Chase Reid,
- 21:20Speaker 4: you saw him on ice as well from this last season.
- 21:22Speaker 4: What's the mean to have him now in this system?
- 21:24Speaker 7: Yeah, obviously he's a really great player. I played him
- 21:27Speaker 7: a few times. Obviously we don't play this so much,
- 21:29Speaker 7: but the times out of I saw him, he looked amazing.
- 21:33Speaker 4: So we're really.
- 21:34Speaker 3: Happy where we got him. And I think he's the
- 21:37Speaker 3: best tea in the job for sure.
- 21:38Speaker 4: We'll look forward to seeing that possible connection years down
- 21:40Speaker 4: the road. But Jake appreciate this, have a great summer.
- 21:42Speaker 4: Thank you, Jacobrien joining us And up next Chase Reid
- 21:46Speaker 4: seventh overall out of the OHL and by many comparisons.
- 21:50Speaker 4: You can go and google the name's high end. He's
- 21:53Speaker 4: got similar attributes and did he ever blow the doors
- 21:56Speaker 4: down with some of the plays that he made to
- 21:58Speaker 4: at least give a glimpse of what he could be
- 22:00Speaker 4: here for the Krack and and their future on their
- 22:03Speaker 4: blue line, for his next step and what he's taken
- 22:06Speaker 4: around as far as the sights and sounds here in Seattle.
- 22:08Speaker 3: Here's our chat with Chase Reid.
- 22:10Speaker 4: Joining us now from development camp is defenseman and prospect
- 22:13Speaker 4: Chase Reid as well. First off, a formal welcome on
- 22:15Speaker 4: the grounds here to Seattle and your takeaways here with
- 22:18Speaker 4: what are they?
- 22:19Speaker 9: Yeah, I mean obviously getting to step on the ice
- 22:21Speaker 9: in all the NHL gear. It's it's a dream to
- 22:22Speaker 9: be able to put on the gear and feel able
- 22:24Speaker 9: to wear that jersey out here and just play alongside
- 22:27Speaker 9: some of the best players in the world. It's a
- 22:28Speaker 9: true honor.
- 22:29Speaker 4: Are a few days in the rearview mir enough to
- 22:32Speaker 4: process and understand what that night being drafted meant to
- 22:36Speaker 4: you and what it felt like as well.
- 22:37Speaker 9: Yeah, I mean obviously being drafted here. He couldn't have
- 22:40Speaker 9: asked for a better place to come to. Everybody's been
- 22:41Speaker 9: super welcoming. It's been nothing but a great experience so far,
- 22:44Speaker 9: and I can't wait for the rest of the week
- 22:45Speaker 9: and then eventually, hopefully the rest of my career.
- 22:48Speaker 4: What was your one takeaway from that draftman, as far
- 22:50Speaker 4: as what you'll remember.
- 22:51Speaker 9: Yeah, obviously giving my mom and dad and brother a hug.
- 22:53Speaker 9: I think just being able to show, especially kids all
- 22:56Speaker 9: over the world, that no matter what life throws in
- 22:58Speaker 9: your face, it doesn't matter and you can accomplished what
- 23:00Speaker 9: you want to accomplish, and then obviously for my little brother,
- 23:03Speaker 9: he's fourteen, so showing him that anything's possible and that
- 23:06Speaker 9: it doesn't matter what happens in life, you can you
- 23:08Speaker 9: can always do what you're dreaming of.
- 23:10Speaker 4: There are plenty of qualities that make this a pretty
- 23:12Speaker 4: special place, whether it might be the environment, the fan base,
- 23:15Speaker 4: what you have as far as a practice facility in
- 23:17Speaker 4: the arena. But what did you notice so far as
- 23:20Speaker 4: far as what blew you away or what you took
- 23:22Speaker 4: away here from your first visit to Seattle?
- 23:24Speaker 9: Yeah, obviously, I mean I saw the houses in the
- 23:26Speaker 9: hills the first night driving in from the airport. That
- 23:28Speaker 9: was pretty cool. And then obviously going and seeing the
- 23:30Speaker 9: game rink last night and seeing the locker room and
- 23:33Speaker 9: just being in that environment, seeing all of the opportunities
- 23:36Speaker 9: that they have over there. I couldn't have asked for
- 23:38Speaker 9: a better place to come to.
- 23:39Speaker 4: You shared your story before when it comes to adversity
- 23:42Speaker 4: at the USHL level, going down for a bit and
- 23:45Speaker 4: making your way back up now to being a first
- 23:47Speaker 4: round NHL draft pick. But as far as your overall game,
- 23:50Speaker 4: how better do you feel as a player now versus.
- 23:52Speaker 2: One year ago?
- 23:53Speaker 9: Yeah, obviously, I think just everything came together in the
- 23:56Speaker 9: perfect way at the perfect.
- 23:57Speaker 2: Time it did.
- 23:57Speaker 9: And obviously the Greyhounds giving me the opportunity to go
- 23:59Speaker 9: play there, and Michigan State giving me the opportunity to
- 24:02Speaker 9: commit there, and them believing in me. Even when I
- 24:04Speaker 9: got sent down to the North American League. It was
- 24:06Speaker 9: I've had a pretty rough path, but I mean people
- 24:09Speaker 9: have believed in me, and I'm proving all of the
- 24:11Speaker 9: all the people wrong and proving them right for choosing me.
- 24:14Speaker 4: So we asked other players about this, as far as
- 24:16Speaker 4: guys they've seen in the OHL. I'll throw a couple
- 24:18Speaker 4: of names out to you, Jacobrien, Nathan Villeneuve, your takeaways
- 24:22Speaker 4: with them on the ice in the same leak from
- 24:24Speaker 4: this last.
- 24:24Speaker 9: Year, really obviously playing with playing against them this past season,
- 24:28Speaker 9: and then obviously getting a step on the ice with them.
- 24:30Speaker 2: They're super hard.
- 24:30Speaker 9: To play against, obviously, but being able to play alongside them,
- 24:33Speaker 9: it's gonna be it's gonna be a lot better to
- 24:35Speaker 9: be able to play alongside good players like them, and
- 24:37Speaker 9: then obviously set them up with the puck.
- 24:39Speaker 4: As well, chirping, how much do you kind of account
- 24:42Speaker 4: for that facing a guy like vill Neve.
- 24:44Speaker 9: Yeah, I mean he's a pretty funny guy all around.
- 24:46Speaker 9: So on the ice and he was in Windsor, I
- 24:48Speaker 9: definitely we didn't chirp each other too much.
- 24:50Speaker 1: I didn't.
- 24:51Speaker 2: I didn't really want to mess with them.
- 24:53Speaker 9: He seemed seemed like a pretty pretty good fighter, so
- 24:55Speaker 9: I didn't really.
- 24:56Speaker 2: Want to mess with them too much.
- 24:57Speaker 9: But I'd give it to him a little bit out
- 24:58Speaker 9: there and he'd give it back and then we'd be fined.
- 25:00Speaker 4: After The night before development camp, you took in a
- 25:03Speaker 4: Mariner's game and throughout the ceremonial first pitch. What was
- 25:06Speaker 4: your experience like and how'd your prepare?
- 25:08Speaker 3: Also to take the mound.
- 25:08Speaker 9: That night, Yeah, going up there, I was more nervous
- 25:11Speaker 9: to walk to the mound than I was to actually
- 25:12Speaker 9: throw the pitch. But it was a huge honor obviously
- 25:15Speaker 9: the Mariners giving me that chance to go out there
- 25:17Speaker 9: in the cracking as well. It was I was a
- 25:19Speaker 9: little nervous to throw it, thought I was gonna miss
- 25:21Speaker 9: the play, but threw right down the middle. And then
- 25:23Speaker 9: obviously Josh catching the ball and sending me that video
- 25:25Speaker 9: was super cool as well.
- 25:26Speaker 3: It was also a big hockey guy as well.
- 25:27Speaker 6: Too.
- 25:28Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:28Speaker 9: Yeah, he was super pumped and he just he had
- 25:30Speaker 9: nothing but good things to say.
- 25:31Speaker 3: How much baseball do you have in your background.
- 25:33Speaker 9: I played baseball a little bit growing up. I was
- 25:35Speaker 9: a catcher, and yeah, that's it's about all I got.
- 25:37Speaker 9: Wasn't the best hitter, though, so we stuck to catching.
- 25:40Speaker 4: But yet, how much did baseball kind of help you
- 25:42Speaker 4: develop your game as a hockey player.
- 25:43Speaker 9: Yeah, I mean I think it just gave me something
- 25:45Speaker 9: to do in the summertime when I wasn't playing hockey.
- 25:48Speaker 9: I go to the gym, train and then baseball practice
- 25:50Speaker 9: at night.
- 25:51Speaker 2: So it was it was super good.
- 25:52Speaker 9: And I mean eventually, at some point you got to
- 25:54Speaker 9: cut off the two sports. So I did that about
- 25:56Speaker 9: two years ago, and I mean it's done nothing.
- 25:58Speaker 7: About the best.
- 25:59Speaker 4: How beneficial for kids to grow up and play multiple sports?
- 26:02Speaker 9: Yeah, I think just being able to do anything just
- 26:05Speaker 9: away from hockey. You playing hockey all winter, all all
- 26:08Speaker 9: year round, so anytime you can get away from it,
- 26:10Speaker 9: whether that's golf, baseball, it's always good to take a
- 26:12Speaker 9: little time away from the rink and place to play
- 26:14Speaker 9: another sport or hang out with your family, just do
- 26:16Speaker 9: get your mind off hockey.
- 26:17Speaker 2: For a little bit.
- 26:18Speaker 4: Now you mentioned golf as well, what's the lowest round
- 26:20Speaker 4: out that you've ever shot on eighteen?
- 26:23Speaker 9: I think I shot seventy one, so one under where.
- 26:26Speaker 2: I mean, that's that's not great.
- 26:28Speaker 4: The middle irons felt felt pretty good that day, didn't they?
- 26:30Speaker 2: Oh yeah, they were there. They were striping them out there.
- 26:33Speaker 4: If you can name your ideal PG tour four, some
- 26:35Speaker 4: pick three guys that you want to play with. Who
- 26:37Speaker 4: are they?
- 26:38Speaker 9: Scheffler, Tiger Woods, And I'm gonna say John Ron. He's
- 26:45Speaker 9: gotta hits wall pretty far and he's won in the
- 26:46Speaker 9: US or the what are the Masters?
- 26:49Speaker 2: Yeah, so that was pretty cool.
- 26:50Speaker 9: And then obviously John Ron being on Live Tour, I
- 26:55Speaker 9: went and saw him live play at in Michigan. And
- 26:57Speaker 9: then obviously Tiger Woods went in the green jacket as well,
- 27:00Speaker 9: so multiple times. So I think it would just be
- 27:02Speaker 9: pretty cool. I mean, I don't really I wouldn't have
- 27:04Speaker 9: a chance against.
- 27:05Speaker 4: Them, but it'd be pretty cool. Routing this out here
- 27:07Speaker 4: back to the on I stuff. What do you call
- 27:09Speaker 4: a successful season this next year at Michigan State?
- 27:12Speaker 9: Yeah, I think just running out my game in every
- 27:14Speaker 9: way and making sure that Seattle knows that I'm ready
- 27:16Speaker 9: to come in the following year and be there.
- 27:17Speaker 3: Go to guy, What kind of player do you want
- 27:19Speaker 3: to be in five years?
- 27:20Speaker 9: I want to be the I mean, I want to
- 27:22Speaker 9: be the offensive guy that definitely keeps pucks out of
- 27:25Speaker 9: the back of my net as we also a two
- 27:26Speaker 9: way defenseman, loves having the puck on my stick, loves
- 27:29Speaker 9: to carry the play, and I want to be the
- 27:30Speaker 9: I want to be the guy here in Seattle and
- 27:32Speaker 9: all the fans to be behind me and my teammates
- 27:34Speaker 9: to push me each and every day.
- 27:35Speaker 4: Now, you might be closer here to pro lifestyle and
- 27:38Speaker 4: NHL lifestyle here, but to the OHL from what you
- 27:40Speaker 4: came out of has a lot of long, groling bus rides,
- 27:43Speaker 4: Like a lot of guys experience in Major Junior. The
- 27:45Speaker 4: toughest bus ride that you sat through in your OHL career,
- 27:48Speaker 4: what was it?
- 27:49Speaker 2: London was pretty far.
- 27:51Speaker 9: That was like eight and a half hours. Kitchener is
- 27:53Speaker 9: probably ten. Yeah, probably Kitchener during playoffs, I was like
- 27:59Speaker 9: ten hours long. So that was a half y ride.
- 28:02Speaker 3: But what's the one thing that you can't live with
- 28:04Speaker 3: that on a bust.
- 28:05Speaker 9: Then definitely my phone or some gummy bears. Can't I
- 28:09Speaker 9: get hungry on the bus. So either my phone, oh
- 28:12Speaker 9: definitely headphones. Yeah yeah, those are probably the three main things. Candy,
- 28:16Speaker 9: my phone and headphones.
- 28:17Speaker 4: Noise canceling. The bigger the better, right, Oh yeah, I
- 28:20Speaker 4: appreciate this, Chase. Welcome to Seattle. Appreciate you again. Thank
- 28:22Speaker 4: you all right, joining us now from the East coast.
- 28:25Speaker 4: John Forest Letting TV play by play for the Crack
- 28:27Speaker 4: and Hockey Network, also of course seen on Amazon, Prime,
- 28:30Speaker 4: T and T among things. Johnny Happy July second, Glad
- 28:35Speaker 4: to reconnect. I'm so sorry that our chat was cut
- 28:39Speaker 4: so short last time. But the draft shows, of course
- 28:41Speaker 4: flying eighty miles an hour, and we get Robert Cron
- 28:44Speaker 4: up there on the set all of a sudden. So
- 28:46Speaker 4: we're gonna make it up to you now, my friend.
- 28:48Speaker 4: But I offer you my time. I offer you a
- 28:52Speaker 4: thirty two bar and grilled sandwich down the road, and
- 28:54Speaker 4: I ask for your forgiveness. How are you well?
- 28:57Speaker 6: I'm doing great, Mic, and it's great to be back
- 29:00Speaker 6: with you. I did I did take it personally. I
- 29:02Speaker 6: thought you guys know it was absolutely awful, or you
- 29:06Speaker 6: guys are just about had it with me, or a
- 29:08Speaker 6: combination of the two.
- 29:09Speaker 4: So we'll just well, we'll just chalk it up here
- 29:12Speaker 4: to the Gremlins and the machine on this one. But
- 29:14Speaker 4: it's good. Well, well, we'll get deep here into things
- 29:17Speaker 4: and appreciate you doing this year with us wrap up
- 29:19Speaker 4: development camp, and you know, I think, to me, it's
- 29:22Speaker 4: just bonkers out teams first off, approach the trade market
- 29:26Speaker 4: and free agency July one, kicking out things on the
- 29:29Speaker 4: free agency side and for the bottom six kind of
- 29:33Speaker 4: guys out there, let's just say it was a field day.
- 29:36Speaker 4: But Johnny, to you locally, where are we at a
- 29:39Speaker 4: week later after the draft and now into free agency
- 29:43Speaker 4: with the state of this roster.
- 29:46Speaker 6: That's a great question. I wish I had an answer
- 29:49Speaker 6: for it, because I'm a little bit confused as to
- 29:52Speaker 6: what we're doing here and what the krack and are
- 29:56Speaker 6: are targeting, you know, in terms of what they want
- 29:59Speaker 6: to get done. They came out of the choote. They
- 30:01Speaker 6: took care of some business early on with Bobby McMahon,
- 30:04Speaker 6: made the trade for Maki Samuskevitch got that player signed,
- 30:09Speaker 6: which is good, but he's a burgeoning player, so the
- 30:12Speaker 6: rest is on him. He's going to have to at
- 30:15Speaker 6: least double his goal output to make good on that contract.
- 30:19Speaker 6: He should be able to based on the ice time
- 30:21Speaker 6: there will allot him and who he plays with, so
- 30:24Speaker 6: that should work out fine. And he is a very good, young,
- 30:26Speaker 6: promising player. But there's some promising involved there too that
- 30:30Speaker 6: you just have to be guarded with, you know, a
- 30:33Speaker 6: big swing at a Jason Robertson. And I think I
- 30:36Speaker 6: told you guys you know, on Friday night that I
- 30:40Speaker 6: believe that his main intention through all of this, he
- 30:43Speaker 6: being Jason Robertson, was to stay put and stay with
- 30:46Speaker 6: his team. Now it's not settled yet, but it looks
- 30:49Speaker 6: like it might end up in that direction. The KRACK
- 30:52Speaker 6: can get high marks for taking a swing at the player.
- 30:55Speaker 6: It's still kind of mystifying how that information gets out publicly,
- 30:59Speaker 6: but it did. I think it was good for the
- 31:01Speaker 6: fans to see that there was an attempt made there.
- 31:04Speaker 6: And then I thought, Okay, now that you get through that,
- 31:07Speaker 6: you know, and you're in and around the draft, maybe
- 31:09Speaker 6: something will happen on the trade front. And it didn't.
- 31:12Speaker 6: I didn't expect much on July one, although I think
- 31:15Speaker 6: there were foundational pieces around the league that can help
- 31:17Speaker 6: change the face and the makeup of the organization, and
- 31:21Speaker 6: that's what a lot of teams did. And you're right,
- 31:23Speaker 6: you know, these players were overpaid. That's always the case
- 31:26Speaker 6: in free agency, but in a summer where the cap
- 31:29Speaker 6: is elevated and a lot of teams have extra money
- 31:32Speaker 6: and mostly you know, virtually every team in the league
- 31:35Speaker 6: has the opportunity to add players based on the enhanced
- 31:39Speaker 6: cap situation. They did. So sure you could argue, you know,
- 31:43Speaker 6: to the cows come home on whether guys are overpaid
- 31:45Speaker 6: or not. I don't like those arguments because I think
- 31:48Speaker 6: that just comes by with doing business in the off
- 31:51Speaker 6: season with free agents now the crack and are in
- 31:54Speaker 6: a period where unless there's something else in terms of
- 31:58Speaker 6: a minor free agent sign or maybe there is a
- 32:01Speaker 6: big trade on the horizon, who knows. I would hope so,
- 32:04Speaker 6: because I still think they have some boxes to check.
- 32:07Speaker 6: And I understand, you know, there seems to be a
- 32:10Speaker 6: direction now towards allowing younger players and opportunity to play,
- 32:15Speaker 6: but that comes with risk, and you almost get into
- 32:18Speaker 6: that catch twenty two again, and I'm not sure, and
- 32:22Speaker 6: I'm just speaking on behalf of myself. I'm not sure
- 32:24Speaker 6: that's exactly where they want to be, although I'm confused
- 32:28Speaker 6: by the messaging because the messaging is still the aggression
- 32:32Speaker 6: that's going to be needed in terms of making moves
- 32:34Speaker 6: from the management staff, other things that were said in
- 32:38Speaker 6: and around the launch of that audit that they did
- 32:40Speaker 6: about having a dynamic summer and all these different things.
- 32:43Speaker 6: I mean, it's been a decent summer. But in terms
- 32:46Speaker 6: of where the Crack and are right now, I believe
- 32:49Speaker 6: they're in the same spot. And maybe you know, there
- 32:52Speaker 6: is an eye on developing and growing players, which I
- 32:56Speaker 6: think from day one should have been the focus, but
- 32:58Speaker 6: somehow got derailed along the way before.
- 33:01Speaker 4: We get to the development component of this. Just back
- 33:04Speaker 4: here to the Robertson thing. I mean, the new cycle
- 33:07Speaker 4: on this is a week old, and I mean has
- 33:09Speaker 4: the reality gone away about where the crack And rank
- 33:11Speaker 4: with a championship tier status?
- 33:13Speaker 1: No?
- 33:13Speaker 4: But I mean, do I think that's some of the
- 33:15Speaker 4: unfair criticism about the pros and cons of playing in
- 33:18Speaker 4: Seattle have been clarified? I mean, I think so. But Johnny,
- 33:21Speaker 4: how did you read into the situation with how it
- 33:24Speaker 4: affects perception about players wanting to come play in Seattle
- 33:29Speaker 4: and the pros and cons that come with it.
- 33:32Speaker 6: I believe that players will have absolutely no problem coming
- 33:35Speaker 6: to Seattle, and as soon as the team elevates its
- 33:40Speaker 6: status in terms of relevance and becomes a winner and
- 33:42Speaker 6: becomes a team that parenially you know, gets into the postseason.
- 33:46Speaker 6: Once that happens, no problem. Is it an issue for
- 33:49Speaker 6: other teams in the Seattle market. No, it's not going
- 33:53Speaker 6: to be an issue for hockey players. It's not going
- 33:55Speaker 6: to be a problem. Someday if the NBA comes back
- 33:58Speaker 6: to Seattle, that's not going to be a problem. What
- 34:01Speaker 6: is it to really dislike about our area? Nothing? I mean,
- 34:06Speaker 6: it's beautiful, it's exceptionally beautiful in the summertime. You deal
- 34:10Speaker 6: with what you deal with in the winter time, but
- 34:12Speaker 6: winter comes with a lot of barrels around the country,
- 34:15Speaker 6: depends on where you're at. I'm not getting in the
- 34:18Speaker 6: tax situations and the millionaire's tax and all these different things.
- 34:22Speaker 6: I think that just bogs down the situation, and it
- 34:26Speaker 6: bogs down the fans. I don't think the fans who
- 34:29Speaker 6: pay enough money to come watch it need to be
- 34:32Speaker 6: worried about how much money people are making. I don't
- 34:36Speaker 6: understand a lot of those arguments when people try to
- 34:40Speaker 6: justify contracts and this is team friendly and this is not. Listen,
- 34:44Speaker 6: every single one of us would take as much money
- 34:47Speaker 6: as possible to do whatever our jobs are. That's the
- 34:51Speaker 6: way the world operates. So these players have a short
- 34:54Speaker 6: period of time to make their money, they do, and
- 34:57Speaker 6: then they're out of the league. And basically most of
- 35:01Speaker 6: them the upper crust, which is a slim percentage. Those
- 35:04Speaker 6: players are different. Those players make obviously a lot more money,
- 35:08Speaker 6: have longer careers. But we're not talking about everybody. So
- 35:13Speaker 6: the cycle has to come the Krakens way. And I
- 35:16Speaker 6: think I told you guys also on Friday Night to
- 35:18Speaker 6: ten years that I went through with the Hurricanes, where
- 35:21Speaker 6: the team was struggling to be relevant. The team was
- 35:23Speaker 6: dealing with relocation rumors, there was an ownership change, but
- 35:27Speaker 6: basically what was happening was the team needed time to
- 35:31Speaker 6: draft and develop players. And here we are going in
- 35:34Speaker 6: a year number six of the Kraken and we're still
- 35:38Speaker 6: talking about this subject. I think the problem is things
- 35:42Speaker 6: got kind of off the rails in terms of what
- 35:45Speaker 6: the initial plan was. From the beginning, things changed, operations
- 35:52Speaker 6: went in a different direction, and then it didn't work,
- 35:55Speaker 6: and then you're scratching your head wondering why that's what
- 35:59Speaker 6: I said? Mice from all of it again, I think
- 36:02Speaker 6: Robertson is an individual that was looking at his own life,
- 36:06Speaker 6: in his own career, and he was making a huge
- 36:08Speaker 6: decision at that time. Where the Seattle Kraken a destination
- 36:13Speaker 6: number one for him? Absolutely not. Was he probably flattered
- 36:17Speaker 6: by the money, I'm sure he was. Were they going
- 36:20Speaker 6: to frontload that money and make sure that he could
- 36:23Speaker 6: have his little problem with the millionaire's tax in twenty
- 36:28Speaker 6: eight or whatever it is. Were they going to do that?
- 36:30Speaker 6: It's reported that they were. Where the Kraken going to
- 36:33Speaker 6: surrender three first round draft choices? Some say they were.
- 36:37Speaker 6: You know what, he has a right to make that choice,
- 36:40Speaker 6: and I firmly believe he and his agent were basically
- 36:43Speaker 6: making every case possible to force Dallas to move off
- 36:47Speaker 6: their offer to take it north and to keep him
- 36:50Speaker 6: with his team. And it looks like whether it's through
- 36:53Speaker 6: arbitration or if they come to a much calmer resolution soon,
- 36:59Speaker 6: you know, that's probably what's going to happen.
- 37:01Speaker 4: Meanwhile, next day, Chase Reed gets trapped at seventh over're
- 37:04Speaker 4: all we'll touch on that here in a bit, but
- 37:07Speaker 4: after July one, toward the very end of the business
- 37:10Speaker 4: day GM, Jason Botterill addressed the media here in regards
- 37:13Speaker 4: to free agency. Can you describe kind of this free
- 37:16Speaker 4: agent market and whether you're seen anyone quite like it?
- 37:19Speaker 8: Well, I think you just see it's the fact of
- 37:21Speaker 8: this escalating cap. Teams have more opportunities to sign their
- 37:24Speaker 8: own players. You know, look at we looked at some
- 37:28Speaker 8: scenarios that could help our group, but we were very
- 37:30Speaker 8: cognizant of making sure we were bringing in players that
- 37:33Speaker 8: could help our young players and not stunt their growth.
- 37:38Speaker 8: And you know, that's part of the reason why we
- 37:41Speaker 8: had a comfort level and resigning Bobby not only what
- 37:43Speaker 8: we could do on the ice, but how he interacted
- 37:45Speaker 8: with some of our younger players like a Berkeley Caton.
- 37:47Speaker 4: So that's why we had a.
- 37:48Speaker 8: Comfortable level there. I think you're just realizing in this,
- 37:52Speaker 8: you know, this sort of new landscape, the importance of
- 37:55Speaker 8: We've talked about it a lot, but the importance of
- 37:57Speaker 8: internal development.
- 37:58Speaker 4: You have to develop your.
- 37:59Speaker 8: Own play and hopefully eventually sign your own players to
- 38:02Speaker 8: have success in this league.
- 38:03Speaker 4: Jason Botterrell mentioning youth here as a part of this, Johnny,
- 38:06Speaker 4: and let'sus kind of go down through a few players,
- 38:08Speaker 4: Berkeley Catton, Jacobrien, Oscar Fister, mole Guard or other to
- 38:14Speaker 4: you who could use a big summer the most.
- 38:17Speaker 6: Again, it depends on the slot, okay, And this is
- 38:21Speaker 6: where you draw the line, and there's one side of
- 38:26Speaker 6: the line that says ready, and there's the other side
- 38:28Speaker 6: of the line that says not ready. And to speculate
- 38:32Speaker 6: about players, say, for instance, we're discussing jac O'Brien, to
- 38:37Speaker 6: speculate where he fits right now is completely unfair in
- 38:41Speaker 6: my opinion, to that player. He the only speculation should
- 38:45Speaker 6: be where he plays next year, and as a nineteen
- 38:49Speaker 6: year old, if he can play in the American League, great.
- 38:52Speaker 6: In terms of Berkeley Catton, you know, where do you
- 38:56Speaker 6: view him as a player. Obviously he should be a
- 38:59Speaker 6: top sixth player at his natural position of center at
- 39:03Speaker 6: some point based on what I saw last season going
- 39:09Speaker 6: into this offseason, I don't think there's any way you
- 39:12Speaker 6: could say that right now. You can hope that you
- 39:15Speaker 6: can hope that he's stronger. I'm not denying the player's
- 39:20Speaker 6: offensive instincts. I think they're very, very high end. Okay,
- 39:25Speaker 6: but you know, the last season, to be fair, a
- 39:29Speaker 6: lot of people were clamoring for him to get more
- 39:31Speaker 6: and more time on the power play. Sure, in March
- 39:34Speaker 6: he could have, but certainly not in November December, when
- 39:39Speaker 6: we have to remind everybody the Kraken for the Lion's
- 39:42Speaker 6: share of the regular season. We're in a playoff spot.
- 39:46Speaker 6: So how can a first year coach say to himself,
- 39:49Speaker 6: you know tomorrow, in tomorrow's game, I'm going to have
- 39:52Speaker 6: to develop Berkeley Caton. No, Tomorrow's game, you're supposed to win.
- 39:57Speaker 6: So at the NHL level, you're supposed to win. That's
- 39:59Speaker 6: all that matters. So sure he could be a one
- 40:03Speaker 6: to two centerman someday, but based on the roster as
- 40:06Speaker 6: it sits right now, Maebe, he is Shane Wright. We
- 40:10Speaker 6: don't have a real clue as to what that is
- 40:13Speaker 6: right now. We thought at this time last year, after
- 40:17Speaker 6: his nineteen goal season, we were on our way to
- 40:20Speaker 6: seeing that it didn't necessarily happen for him. So where
- 40:23Speaker 6: are we at with that? Matty Beniers basically has put
- 40:27Speaker 6: his feet firmly on the ground, in my opinion, as
- 40:29Speaker 6: a number two center in the National Hockey League on
- 40:33Speaker 6: a really good team. Okay, with this team, he's likely
- 40:36Speaker 6: your one seat. The Kraken are still looking for a
- 40:41Speaker 6: true one seat, and that's hard to find. Maybe it's o'brilliant,
- 40:46Speaker 6: maybe it's Catton, maybe it's somebody else. Maybe it's Shane Wright.
- 40:50Speaker 6: I mean, you know, those are all maybies. Chandler Stevenson
- 40:53Speaker 6: takes a lot of heat.
- 40:55Speaker 2: Why.
- 40:56Speaker 6: I have no clue. He's an excellent NHL player, He's
- 41:00Speaker 6: lean down in all different situations. He carries a lot
- 41:03Speaker 6: of water for the team. He gets very little support
- 41:07Speaker 6: or recognition for it, in my opinion, and he'll proven otherwise.
- 41:12Speaker 6: Chandler Stevenson is either one or two on this team,
- 41:15Speaker 6: you know, going in it next year. So that's great
- 41:19Speaker 6: that you want to make sure and I get what
- 41:21Speaker 6: Jason's saying. You don't want to block your player's path.
- 41:25Speaker 6: So you certainly don't want to get into a situation
- 41:27Speaker 6: with a free agent who's late twenties thirties, say a
- 41:31Speaker 6: Boon Jenner. You don't want to get into a four
- 41:33Speaker 6: or five year contract with a player like that because
- 41:36Speaker 6: there's blockage. There's already blockage at least what's ready to
- 41:40Speaker 6: go handtan for this season. You know, then you got
- 41:43Speaker 6: to get creative. I'm not sure in a two week
- 41:46Speaker 6: training camp that the teams get now you're going to
- 41:48Speaker 6: be able to get a read on where everybody's at,
- 41:51Speaker 6: so to be fair again, in real terms, I think
- 41:54Speaker 6: that's where it's going to be. Yeah, there's brightness on
- 41:58Speaker 6: the horizon in terms of their young players, there's no
- 42:00Speaker 6: question about it. But they still have to put Mike
- 42:03Speaker 6: a team on the ice that's going to be competitive
- 42:06Speaker 6: and reward the fans with an opportunity to get to
- 42:09Speaker 6: the postseason. Unless there's a completely different agenda that hasn't
- 42:13Speaker 6: been communicated to me about the direction of the team
- 42:17Speaker 6: and they're just going to try and develop players at
- 42:20Speaker 6: the NHL level. That's really really hard to do. And
- 42:24Speaker 6: unless you're talking about an upper end guy mckennith, so
- 42:28Speaker 6: to speak, you know you're not going to get there.
- 42:31Speaker 6: I mean, even when you get to Chase Reid, you
- 42:33Speaker 6: may be arguably the best defenseman in that draft, but
- 42:37Speaker 6: he needs to play at Michigan State for at least
- 42:39Speaker 6: one season and then see what it's all about.
- 42:42Speaker 4: Getting back here to development camp and Chase Reid he's
- 42:44Speaker 4: now in the system, is you know, the potential defenseman
- 42:47Speaker 4: of the future on this team. I mean, who knows
- 42:49Speaker 4: if face the franchise is there for him. But we
- 42:52Speaker 4: don't want to get carried away though on that right now,
- 42:54Speaker 4: at least as far as I'm concerned. But I mean,
- 42:56Speaker 4: by many accounts, Casey Mutrim picked in the second round,
- 42:59Speaker 4: you know, well, could be an NHL or maybe bottom
- 43:02Speaker 4: six roll. You know who can check that physical box.
- 43:05Speaker 4: Beyond that, maybe you know you got a lot a
- 43:07Speaker 4: ton of projects on your hands here.
- 43:09Speaker 3: But I mean what stood out to.
- 43:11Speaker 4: You the most with this draft class and the state
- 43:13Speaker 4: of the crack and farm system.
- 43:15Speaker 6: Well, if Chase Reid is everything has advertised and then
- 43:20Speaker 6: that alone should be enough for everybody to get excited
- 43:23Speaker 6: about in terms of the potential of that player and
- 43:26Speaker 6: what he could develop into the Krack and have not
- 43:29Speaker 6: drafted at that position, that type of player, if we're
- 43:32Speaker 6: talking about a guy that could have been like a
- 43:34Speaker 6: Drew Dowdy someday or something along those lines. I hate comparisons,
- 43:39Speaker 6: but he's right handed, He's drafted in the same vein.
- 43:44Speaker 6: He was looked at, as I said it, as one
- 43:46Speaker 6: of the best defensemen in that draft, and it looks like,
- 43:51Speaker 6: you know, he's going to have the skill set and
- 43:54Speaker 6: the personality and just listening to his confidence in his presence,
- 43:59Speaker 6: not cocky, it's just, you know, very interesting. And I'm
- 44:03Speaker 6: excited to hear some of these sound bites. And any
- 44:06Speaker 6: any guy who likes you know, honey glazed Timbits is
- 44:10Speaker 6: good with me. I mean that everybody should have a
- 44:15Speaker 6: hot coffee or a tea and a doughnut every once
- 44:18Speaker 6: in a while. It's still one of the great moments
- 44:20Speaker 6: in life in my opinion. But anyway, good for them.
- 44:23Speaker 4: Never ever turned down Timbits, I say, never never turned
- 44:26Speaker 4: out never, never.
- 44:28Speaker 6: Never, So you know what, that should be enough to
- 44:31Speaker 6: get you excited. And then you look at the draft
- 44:33Speaker 6: and it was a little bit different because there were
- 44:35Speaker 6: some players with size. They do need to get to that.
- 44:40Speaker 6: And then as you get deeper into the rounds, it's
- 44:42Speaker 6: all about numbers. You know only a few of them
- 44:44Speaker 6: are going to hit, so you want to make sure
- 44:47Speaker 6: that you're fortified at all positions. It looks like a
- 44:50Speaker 6: sound draft. That looks like from the people that watch
- 44:53Speaker 6: it prognosticate grade those drafts. They checked out pretty high
- 44:59Speaker 6: depending on who you ask. That's all good, but again,
- 45:02Speaker 6: those players have to be allowed time, right, they have
- 45:06Speaker 6: to be allowed time to get to that point. To me,
- 45:09Speaker 6: the one that takes the least amount of time, which
- 45:13Speaker 6: again were guarded heavily when you say these things, because
- 45:17Speaker 6: this is a human being and an athlete that needs
- 45:20Speaker 6: to have that time, is read. You know, maybe maybe
- 45:24Speaker 6: Chase Reid has a great freshman season and is the
- 45:29Speaker 6: next you know, Martone player that went to Philadelphia at
- 45:32Speaker 6: the end of his college season and stepped in and
- 45:35Speaker 6: made a difference. You know, macarr walked into the NHL
- 45:39Speaker 6: off the UMass campus and made a difference. You know,
- 45:42Speaker 6: that's what you hope. You know, I'm not sure. I
- 45:45Speaker 6: don't look at the draft, I don't study, I don't
- 45:47Speaker 6: know anything about these players. In my job in terms
- 45:51Speaker 6: of what I do, I always like to look at
- 45:53Speaker 6: a player first and go from there. Then watch players
- 45:56Speaker 6: in preseason games and go from there, and watch young
- 45:59Speaker 6: players in any games in the first half of the year,
- 46:01Speaker 6: and go from there second half of the year. Go
- 46:04Speaker 6: from there. You watch Martone and how he played in
- 46:06Speaker 6: the Stanley Cup playoffs. That was remarkable, That was really good.
- 46:10Speaker 6: So it can't translate, there's no question, but you just
- 46:13Speaker 6: have to be careful.
- 46:14Speaker 4: One intriguing signing on July one from the Crack Inside
- 46:18Speaker 4: Ford and enforcer Curtis Douglas to your deal, Johnny, how
- 46:22Speaker 4: do you think you're the fit here?
- 46:24Speaker 6: Well, you know, they got to him on the first
- 46:26Speaker 6: day of free agency, which probably means there were some
- 46:28Speaker 6: teams that were interested because the salary for this player
- 46:32Speaker 6: is really good for the player, you know, good for him.
- 46:35Speaker 6: One two five is a really good contract. It's a
- 46:40Speaker 6: two year contract. It's player that was waived a couple times,
- 46:44Speaker 6: a player that you know ended up in Vancouver at
- 46:46Speaker 6: the end of last year and they decided to move
- 46:48Speaker 6: on from him. Although he was popular with Vancouver. Understand
- 46:52Speaker 6: that I know covering him on other games over the
- 46:56Speaker 6: course of the year when he was with a Tampa
- 46:59Speaker 6: Bay Light. You know, John Cooper on one occasion especially
- 47:03Speaker 6: talk to us about having that option that is opponent
- 47:07Speaker 6: based on your roster. So when you get a player
- 47:10Speaker 6: that's there for toughness, a player with legitimate size, a
- 47:14Speaker 6: player that's going to push back at the other bench
- 47:16Speaker 6: with some gravitas, that's good the KRACK and have not
- 47:20Speaker 6: had that. It's going to allow Malanson if he makes
- 47:23Speaker 6: the team, to play bigger. It's going to allow him
- 47:26Speaker 6: to antagonize and do the things that he does on
- 47:29Speaker 6: the ice and hit repeatedly on the fore check, knowing
- 47:33Speaker 6: that there's some balance there if you need it against
- 47:36Speaker 6: that opponent and on other nights. If Douglas does in
- 47:39Speaker 6: fact make the team, I would imagine he's a twelve
- 47:42Speaker 6: slash thirteen forward that can come in and out of
- 47:44Speaker 6: your lineup. It's a good option. But they paid handsomely
- 47:48Speaker 6: for the player, you know, so so hopefully he's going
- 47:51Speaker 6: to make a difference and continue to work on his
- 47:53Speaker 6: skill set. At his size at six's eight six', nine you,
- 47:58Speaker 6: know you're skating is always going to be something that
- 48:01Speaker 6: has to be tuned up over the course of an
- 48:03Speaker 6: off season so that you can keep up with the.
- 48:06Speaker 6: Pace because, really you, know when you get the players
- 48:09Speaker 6: like This rempy with The rangers, McDermott you, know players
- 48:15Speaker 6: that are big and tough. Too you, know, Yeah jeff
- 48:21Speaker 6: that was a good you, Know Jeff malat was a
- 48:23Speaker 6: good signing. Too you know that that that that's that
- 48:27Speaker 6: that he's a player that can help he gets around
- 48:30Speaker 6: a little, bit you, know but if you find a
- 48:31Speaker 6: player Like, Olivier Matthew olivier who can score your ten,
- 48:35Speaker 6: goals maybe, more but let's, say tend to be, safe
- 48:39Speaker 6: get around the, ice not hurt you in the on
- 48:42Speaker 6: the road because you get you don't get last, change
- 48:45Speaker 6: not hurt you in the second period where there are long,
- 48:48Speaker 6: changes you, know because you can. Skate and he's one
- 48:52Speaker 6: of the toughest guys in the. League you pay that,
- 48:54Speaker 6: player you, know you pay him really. Handsomely So curtis
- 48:58Speaker 6: is a great. Story good for, Him it's an ideal
- 49:01Speaker 6: fit for the crack and it's certainly something that they.
- 49:03Speaker 6: Needed and Obviously i'm happy to see it because we've
- 49:07Speaker 6: talked about this mic over and over again over the.
- 49:09Speaker 6: Years you, know there's just a softness around the team
- 49:13Speaker 6: THAT i felt needed to be. Addressed you, know that
- 49:17Speaker 6: needs to be. Addressed so that, Again i'm just going
- 49:20Speaker 6: to Take malanton you, know if he's and he did
- 49:23Speaker 6: stir it up last, year but there was that point
- 49:26Speaker 6: of no return and did he want to go there
- 49:28Speaker 6: against certain, Players probably. Not but if he has a running,
- 49:32Speaker 6: mate it's a totally different. Story it'll make the crack
- 49:36Speaker 6: and play. Bigger at least that's the.
- 49:38Speaker 4: Hope you just kind of get the feeling That Lane
- 49:40Speaker 4: lambert cracked a little smile on his face once that
- 49:43Speaker 4: deal got. Done here a little side, note THE whl
- 49:47Speaker 4: is trying out a no over and back rule for
- 49:49Speaker 4: three on three in overtime this, season and that's just
- 49:52Speaker 4: for the. Preseason if the teams like, it it could
- 49:55Speaker 4: get voted in. Permanently But, johnny how would you like
- 49:58Speaker 4: to maybe see this role become a reality in THE nhl?
- 50:01Speaker 4: SOMEDAY i would love.
- 50:03Speaker 6: IT i would love. That i'm really bogged down by
- 50:07Speaker 6: what it has. Become a game of keep away and
- 50:11Speaker 6: possession first and. Foremost it was supposed to, be you,
- 50:15Speaker 6: know the best players in the world having all the
- 50:18Speaker 6: ice and just break down after breakdown and then closure
- 50:22Speaker 6: on the. Game as time has marched, on the coaches
- 50:26Speaker 6: have figured out how to play with that, situation how
- 50:29Speaker 6: to make sure you're protecting your, situation and then you
- 50:33Speaker 6: go for it and then, there's you, know a jail,
- 50:35Speaker 6: break and the next thing you, know there's another one
- 50:37Speaker 6: in the game's. Over too many of these games go
- 50:39Speaker 6: down the same. Path for, Me i'm also in favor
- 50:43Speaker 6: of somehow lengthening over time so that we can do
- 50:45Speaker 6: away with a, shootout or maybe we just need a
- 50:48Speaker 6: little bit of a. Show i'm not a fan of the.
- 50:50Speaker 6: SHOOTOUT i never, was going back to The American Hockey
- 50:54Speaker 6: league in nineteen eighty seven when they experimented with a
- 50:57Speaker 6: five player shootout AND i Thought i'd never see it,
- 51:01Speaker 6: Again and here it, is SO i like. THAT i
- 51:04Speaker 6: like that. CONCEPT i hope it, works so we'll keep
- 51:06Speaker 6: an eye on. It it makes a ton of sense
- 51:10Speaker 6: because right now some of these overtimes in the regular
- 51:13Speaker 6: season are great and the rest of them are. Not it's,
- 51:17Speaker 6: just you, know here we. Go we're rethinking, it back to,
- 51:20Speaker 6: center rethinking it back to the, goalie changing, setting doing
- 51:25Speaker 6: it again over and over. Again it becomes. Insanity.
- 51:29Speaker 4: JOHNNY i remember about roughly fifteen years, ago in my
- 51:33Speaker 4: climb up the minor, LEAGUES i called a twenty one
- 51:38Speaker 4: round shootout between The Stockton thunder and The Victoria Salmon.
- 51:42Speaker 4: Kings the home team lost one. Nothing it was also
- 51:45Speaker 4: On Teddy Bear toss, night and the first goal that
- 51:48Speaker 4: finally went into the opposing team's net was a shootout,
- 51:52Speaker 4: goal and some fans became confused thinking it was A
- 51:54Speaker 4: teddy bear toss, goal and it caused about roughly a
- 51:57Speaker 4: five minute. Delay things picked right, back but Then victoria
- 52:01Speaker 4: answered and then eventually one game in a shootout go
- 52:06Speaker 4: back for, me what do you remember as the longest
- 52:08Speaker 4: shootout game you've?
- 52:09Speaker 6: CALLED i only Think i've done a nine or ten round,
- 52:14Speaker 6: Shootout nothing close to. That what's the longest in THE?
- 52:18Speaker 6: Nhl the eighteen round one they had many years? AGO
- 52:22Speaker 6: i think it. Was i'm not one hundred percent sure
- 52:25Speaker 6: of the world Famous Merrick milite goal In Madison Square. Garden,
- 52:29Speaker 6: Okay SO i.
- 52:32Speaker 9: JUST i just think.
- 52:33Speaker 6: It it just alters the game so much from every,
- 52:38Speaker 6: standpoint even. Coaching there's a but now the coaches have
- 52:42Speaker 6: become the stars of the show because they're dictating the
- 52:44Speaker 6: matchups there and they're doing all this in the. Overtime
- 52:47Speaker 6: but then when you get to the, shootout the decisions
- 52:50Speaker 6: that are, made you can you can second guess them.
- 52:53Speaker 6: ALL i don't know how they do, it you, KNOW
- 52:56Speaker 6: i guess you can do it at practice and see who's.
- 52:58Speaker 6: Hot you could go by the, game WHICH i think
- 53:00Speaker 6: makes the most, sense and who's had a real hot
- 53:02Speaker 6: hand in the game or in and around scoring, chances
- 53:05Speaker 6: you go for. THAT i have a hard time with
- 53:07Speaker 6: these so called specialists who sit and don't play much
- 53:10Speaker 6: and then all of a sudden they're in the. Shootout,
- 53:11Speaker 6: yeah maybe that. Works and then you get to The
- 53:15Speaker 6: mason McTavish play the two nettes off back in the,
- 53:19Speaker 6: day the slow motion plays come. On it's. Unfair you.
- 53:26Speaker 6: Know it's like stick time when you have went AND
- 53:28Speaker 6: i raised a young, goalie my. Son when you took
- 53:32Speaker 6: my boy to stick time back in the, day the
- 53:35Speaker 6: kids would just waited, out waited, out waited, out waited.
- 53:37Speaker 6: On the poor goalie is just, okay you're going to,
- 53:39Speaker 6: Score go ahead and. Score you. Know it's not like.
- 53:42Speaker 6: That but it's close at the highest level when they
- 53:45Speaker 6: take a long time to get in, there even though
- 53:47Speaker 6: supposedly the puck is moving forward at all, times it
- 53:51Speaker 6: becomes a joke to. Me so and it's a valuable.
- 53:54Speaker 6: Point AND i also think we need three two one
- 53:57Speaker 6: in terms of points BECAUSE i still love. It, yes,
- 54:01Speaker 6: yeah if a coach lays out a great game plan
- 54:04Speaker 6: and for sixty minutes and they beat a team for,
- 54:06Speaker 6: nothing then why is maybe a mistake field game that
- 54:10Speaker 6: gets to overtime and then a. Shootout why is that
- 54:13Speaker 6: the same? VALUE i really don't, know because, basically when
- 54:17Speaker 6: the coaches throw out, players what are they doing? Anymore
- 54:19Speaker 6: they're not doing. Anything they're just hoping for the. Best
- 54:21Speaker 6: and the poor goalies are either heroes or. Not and
- 54:24Speaker 6: the reactions of the teams don't make any. Sense one
- 54:27Speaker 6: team's jumping around like they've already won the. Cup the
- 54:30Speaker 6: other teams going in to the room with their heads.
- 54:31Speaker 6: Down why because someone scored on a breakaway in a penalty.
- 54:35Speaker 6: Shot it's it's. RIDICULOUS i JUST i don't like. It
- 54:40Speaker 6: it just interferes with the fabric of the. Game Maybe
- 54:43Speaker 6: i'm too old school on this, one but that's HOW
- 54:46Speaker 6: i see.
- 54:46Speaker 4: It and the, LEAST i, mean, hey there's the reason
- 54:49Speaker 4: why the shootout point is devalued when it comes to.
- 54:51Speaker 4: TIEBREAKERS i, mean and, hey just look at the top
- 54:53Speaker 4: five teams and shootout win percentage last. Year they are
- 54:56Speaker 4: the world beaters named The Vancouver, Canucks Boston, Ruins Nashville,
- 55:00Speaker 4: Predators San Jose, sharks And Ottawa. Senators there you, go
- 55:05Speaker 4: there you.
- 55:05Speaker 6: Go teams that get the three on three you know
- 55:07Speaker 6: it Favors. COLORA i would Think Carolina. Colorado they all
- 55:12Speaker 6: did very well in three on three and why. Not
- 55:16Speaker 6: you know it's. Perfect it's right up the alley of
- 55:18Speaker 6: some of the, players you.
- 55:19Speaker 4: Know, YEAH i certainly, agree certainly. Agree, Well, johnny we've
- 55:22Speaker 4: kept you long enough. Here we'll see how the rest
- 55:24Speaker 4: of this summer plays. Out but it'll be a fun
- 55:26Speaker 4: one to keep our eyes. On and then the eighty
- 55:28Speaker 4: four game bonanza and we'll try to make up that meal,
- 55:31Speaker 4: sometime my. Friend but thank, you appreciate, You, Hey, mike.
- 55:33Speaker 6: Thanks for having me enjoy the, summer and we'll see you,
- 55:37Speaker 6: soon but not too, soon.
- 55:38Speaker 4: All, right appreciate You John foresland joining us, Here, mike
- 55:41Speaker 4: and never a back to wrap it, up we again
- 55:43Speaker 4: Thank John foresland for joining. Us, Also Chase, Reid jacobrien
- 55:47Speaker 4: each one on one here with. Us what do we
- 55:50Speaker 4: look at The krack and farm system as a present
- 55:54Speaker 4: day and maybe even the potential right? Now BECAUSE i
- 55:57Speaker 4: Mean jacobrien LIKELY i think we heard from.
- 56:00Speaker 3: Him The American Hockey league is going to be in the.
- 56:03Speaker 4: Cards there's that rule opening up where he can play
- 56:06Speaker 4: now at age, Nineteen Chase reid is a very very curious.
- 56:11Speaker 4: Tale AND i think from what we, saw and you
- 56:13Speaker 4: take this here for what it is, worth it is development,
- 56:15Speaker 4: camps so you don't want to split the. Atom but
- 56:18Speaker 4: we saw some qualities in a defenseman like we have
- 56:22Speaker 4: never seen before around these.
- 56:23Speaker 2: Parts, yeah AND i think that that Qualification mikey is super.
- 56:27Speaker 2: Key right development, camp you're going up against your. Peers
- 56:30Speaker 2: you're going up against players who are in a very
- 56:33Speaker 2: similar situation to. You they're in IN, taa they're in,
- 56:36Speaker 2: junior they're playing around the, World so you need to
- 56:40Speaker 2: temper that expectation a little. Bit that, said and the
- 56:44Speaker 2: drills THAT i saw him in and then in The Stucky,
- 56:47Speaker 2: cup the game from, TODAY i, mean he was hands
- 56:53Speaker 2: down the best player and for my money on the,
- 56:58Speaker 2: ICE i think all Through Rock camp he was the best.
- 57:01Speaker 2: Player today he really showed that he's going to go
- 57:04Speaker 2: To Michigan. State we talked about this on The Draft
- 57:07Speaker 2: show On. FRIDAY i don't know how they do things
- 57:09Speaker 2: At Michigan, state but at least WHEN i was At
- 57:11Speaker 2: Bowling Green State, university the football program trained or the
- 57:15Speaker 2: hockey team trained with the football. Team it's the same.
- 57:18Speaker 2: TRAINERS a lot of the same. Weights you're going to
- 57:21Speaker 2: a big ten, School Michigan, state with a lot of,
- 57:24Speaker 2: money money to. Burn he's going to get a big boy,
- 57:29Speaker 2: education whether that be in the weight, room whether that
- 57:32Speaker 2: be on. Campus Adam nightingale runs a phenomenal program In East.
- 57:37Speaker 4: LANSING i love Hearing Jason bottles saying, that you, know
- 57:40Speaker 4: it paints him to say as A michigan guy that
- 57:42Speaker 4: another program Like Michigan state is doing so, well.
- 57:45Speaker 2: But he goes as A. WOLVERINE i can't draft A,
- 57:48Speaker 2: spartan but it was a no. Brainer Land In DuPont's
- 57:51Speaker 2: going To. Michigan and it's a catch twenty two because
- 57:54Speaker 2: you hope The kraken aren't in a position to draft
- 57:57Speaker 2: the Land In DuPont because they had a good. Season
- 58:00Speaker 2: they made the playoffs and are going on a. Run
- 58:03Speaker 2: but you know he might have an opportunity to draft
- 58:05Speaker 2: The michigan man next next. Summer we'll. See but first things.
- 58:08Speaker 2: First eighty four games ahead of, Us but, NO i
- 58:11Speaker 2: think this week you saw a number of players WHO
- 58:14Speaker 2: i think you were looking for updates on right obviously
- 58:17Speaker 2: A Chase. REID i Thought jacobrien did some things well for.
- 58:21Speaker 2: Me he's got to pick up a little bit more.
- 58:23Speaker 2: WEIGHT i mean he. WAS i heard that he picked
- 58:25Speaker 2: up about fifteen pounds coming into this. Year loved his.
- 58:29Speaker 2: Confidence last, year you AND i and now we talked
- 58:32Speaker 2: a little bit, about you, know him having a deer
- 58:35Speaker 2: in the headlights. Vibe but this YEAR i saw the
- 58:38Speaker 2: confidence from. HIM i think he's going to Do wonders
- 58:41Speaker 2: down With laxtall and his staff In Coachella Valley Blake.
- 58:45Speaker 2: FIDDLER i thought he looked really good. Defensively he's also
- 58:49Speaker 2: going To, denver and he's also going To denver next.
- 58:52Speaker 2: Season so after a couple of years in THE, Whl
- 58:54Speaker 2: fiddler going TO ncaa against bigger, competition stronger. COMPETITION a
- 58:59Speaker 2: lot of, folks you, know when you talk about THE,
- 59:01Speaker 2: whl THE chl and THE. Ncaa i've worked in the
- 59:05Speaker 2: in college hockey and THE. Ushl you're going up against
- 59:10Speaker 2: bigger and stronger. Players AND i think you, know WHEN
- 59:12Speaker 2: i was working in THE, ushl we would Tell, paris
- 59:15Speaker 2: if your kid Is, crosby if you're a McKinnon at the,
- 59:19Speaker 2: time Will, vetchkin if you're that type of, player then,
- 59:22Speaker 2: yes go to THE, ohl go to THE. Chl but
- 59:25Speaker 2: if you think you need some more, seasoning if you
- 59:27Speaker 2: think that you were a player that can benefit from
- 59:31Speaker 2: from extra competition THE, ushl then ultimately the college route
- 59:35Speaker 2: is the way for. You in, college you're going up
- 59:37Speaker 2: against a lot of twenty one two three year, olds,
- 59:41Speaker 2: bigger stronger. Competition you play forty some odd games a.
- 59:45Speaker 2: Year you're playing every weekend back to, Backs friday And.
- 59:48Speaker 2: Saturday and then you've got two hours of practice time every,
- 59:51Speaker 2: day a lot of, film a lot of, practice a
- 59:53Speaker 2: lot of time on the. Ice so you're gonna be
- 59:55Speaker 2: able to get a lot of, education both literally in
- 59:59Speaker 2: the class and on the. Ice SO i think that's
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: gonna benefit him as. Well but it was it was
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: a good. YEAR i thought of development camp and there
- 1:00:07Speaker 2: were a handful of GUYS i thought stood out to
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: me in a positive.
- 1:00:09Speaker 4: Way, also we should mention as well to more of
- 1:00:12Speaker 4: these conversations by the way podcasts via The iHeartRadio app
- 1:00:15Speaker 4: because we only had so much. Time but you can
- 1:00:16Speaker 4: also catch out more chats here With Blake fiddler his
- 1:00:20Speaker 4: plans on what's next with him and also At denver
- 1:00:22Speaker 4: Also Nathan villnev what a great yeah and he got
- 1:00:25Speaker 4: a taste also of His welcome to the pros moment
- 1:00:29Speaker 4: about a couple of years. Ago but for a player
- 1:00:32Speaker 4: that came up playing THE chl route loaded, schedule yet
- 1:00:36Speaker 4: fearless is definitely a part of his. Brand he is
- 1:00:40Speaker 4: going to be a fun one to watch as. Well
- 1:00:42Speaker 4: Also Casey mutrin a part of that conversation that will
- 1:00:44Speaker 4: also have.
- 1:00:45Speaker 2: Uploaded, yeah With, VILLNEV i mean we've been, talking you
- 1:00:49Speaker 2: know since year, One, right The kraken need sort of.
- 1:00:52Speaker 2: Sandpaper they need some more, toughness they need some more.
- 1:00:55Speaker 2: Grit milanson added something to this team THAT i don't
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: think we have in the first few. Years, now you
- 1:01:02Speaker 2: go out and Get Curtis douglas six foot, nine six
- 1:01:05Speaker 2: foot seven whatever he is and is gonna be able
- 1:01:09Speaker 2: to be a force out. There but Also Nathan. Villeneuve
- 1:01:13Speaker 2: he has shown that he's not afraid to drop the.
- 1:01:16Speaker 2: Gloves he's not afraid to hit and stand. Up AND
- 1:01:20Speaker 2: i think the players in THE, nhl and we heard
- 1:01:23Speaker 2: From Johnny he's been around the block a lot of
- 1:01:25Speaker 2: times in this. League he has seen it all the
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: players that know how to harness that physicality and that
- 1:01:33Speaker 2: grit and that toughness and use their powers for, good you,
- 1:01:37Speaker 2: know not just run around out there trying to hit
- 1:01:39Speaker 2: everything that. Moves you Saw Matt remke did that a
- 1:01:41Speaker 2: little bit with The. Rangers took him a little bit
- 1:01:44Speaker 2: to actually, learn you, know how to be IN nhl
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: or if you can harness that and play the right,
- 1:01:52Speaker 2: way you're in for a successful. Career SO i Think,
- 1:01:55Speaker 2: VILLENEUVE i Think douglas, Obviously, malatsim we've seen you now
- 1:01:58Speaker 2: have got three players on your team slash in your
- 1:02:01Speaker 2: system that can bring some of that grit and sand
- 1:02:04Speaker 2: paper that has been missing from this organization since the.
- 1:02:07Speaker 4: Beginning one THING i appreciate with the voices that we
- 1:02:11Speaker 4: have in this broadcast team is the broad landscape of
- 1:02:15Speaker 4: places we've come from to be able to add to.
- 1:02:17Speaker 4: Perspective of, course You, everett the college. RANKS i had
- 1:02:21Speaker 4: to dip in the water for you, know six YEARS
- 1:02:22Speaker 4: whl as. Well SO i, think in other, words there
- 1:02:26Speaker 4: really is no wrong way to choose your path to
- 1:02:31Speaker 4: an eventual place in THE. Nhl, WELL i think we
- 1:02:34Speaker 4: are seeing right now is a change with how some
- 1:02:38Speaker 4: of the bigger stars and potential megastars maybe approach that.
- 1:02:43Speaker 4: PATH i Think gavin McKenna one, Example land AND duponmp
- 1:02:47Speaker 4: by many, accounts will go first. Overall he also CHOSE
- 1:02:51Speaker 4: whl then THE ncaa for at least one. Season so
- 1:02:56Speaker 4: this is becoming a, trend, FOLKS i, mean like it or.
- 1:02:59Speaker 4: Not SO i kind of go back to your perspective
- 1:03:02Speaker 4: when we talk about guys in the weight. Room every team,
- 1:03:05Speaker 4: practices you, know doesn't matter what, league doesn't matter what
- 1:03:09Speaker 4: PATH i saw A whl you, play you, know roughly
- 1:03:12Speaker 4: about seventy. Games they've gone, up they've gone, down but
- 1:03:15Speaker 4: on those off days you still are. Practicing, however what
- 1:03:19Speaker 4: difference does it make with the added practice time you're
- 1:03:22Speaker 4: getting with a lesser schedule on THE ncaa.
- 1:03:25Speaker 2: Side you know WHAT i, think it's it's less tax
- 1:03:28Speaker 2: on your, body it's less stress on your. Body it's
- 1:03:31Speaker 2: more time to work on skills and develop. Skills, again
- 1:03:35Speaker 2: this is back WHEN i was in, college but we
- 1:03:38Speaker 2: would practice every day from twelve to. Four you'd have
- 1:03:41Speaker 2: two hours of on. Ice you do some drills and
- 1:03:44Speaker 2: then you hit the film, room right and then you
- 1:03:46Speaker 2: come back on the, ice you're in the weight, room
- 1:03:48Speaker 2: things like. That you take your game, plan just like
- 1:03:51Speaker 2: in college. Football you're working all. Week this week we've Got.
- 1:03:54Speaker 2: Michigan next, week you've Got Fair, estate whatever the case may.
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: Be you're game planning for those, teams but you're also
- 1:04:00Speaker 2: learning as. Well when we when The, kraken we're playing
- 1:04:03Speaker 2: The Arizona coyotes down on campus AND temp on the
- 1:04:07Speaker 2: campus OF. Asu we had a practice day in Which
- 1:04:11Speaker 2: Arizona state was also, practicing AND i sat down AND
- 1:04:14Speaker 2: i talked to a couple of their staff members who
- 1:04:16Speaker 2: were there AND. Asu they gave me the rundown of their.
- 1:04:20Speaker 2: Practice on the. Ice every day ten to, noon they
- 1:04:24Speaker 2: take a, break do some film noon to, two twelve
- 1:04:27Speaker 2: thirty to, two you're back on the ice to work
- 1:04:29Speaker 2: on some. Things you go onto the, weekend you, play
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: you come back weight room. Day it's just a lot
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: of education because they understand that when you're at that,
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: level you're not going to be ready for THE. Nhl
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: very few players are ready for THE nhl at eighteen
- 1:04:44Speaker 2: nineteen years. Old you need a couple of. Years you
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: need some more. Seasoning AND i think with especially this
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: NEW NC doublea landscape that we're, in players can now
- 1:04:52Speaker 2: go from junior hockey to THE NC. Doublea you're now
- 1:04:55Speaker 2: going to get guys who are going to get THE
- 1:04:56Speaker 2: nhl schedule at seventeen eighteen years. Old they're then gonna
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: go to A big ten. Program they're gonna go to
- 1:05:02Speaker 2: A Hockey east program that puts millions of dollars into
- 1:05:07Speaker 2: their athletic. Department. RIGHT i don't know what the what
- 1:05:09Speaker 2: THE whl salaries, are but when you have a team
- 1:05:13Speaker 2: Like Michigan state whose football budget alone is upwards of
- 1:05:18Speaker 2: forty million, DOLLARS i don't know a lot OF whl
- 1:05:21Speaker 2: teams with an operating bud then all, exactly but it's
- 1:05:25Speaker 2: also the booster, world, right how many boosters in the
- 1:05:28Speaker 2: dub are are given teams, ten, twelve fifteen to twenty million.
- 1:05:32Speaker 2: Dollars it happens in, college, Right so you're gonna be
- 1:05:35Speaker 2: able to get that. Opportunity and also for me as a,
- 1:05:39Speaker 2: Fan i've worked at college, Hockey i've worked in THE.
- 1:05:41Speaker 2: Ushl it is so exciting for the prospect of a
- 1:05:47Speaker 2: player coming out of college having won A Memorial, cup
- 1:05:53Speaker 2: having won A Chl player of The, year having won
- 1:05:57Speaker 2: an ed Chen Out, cup having won Ana, championship and
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: A Hoby. Baker you could have a guy when literally
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: every Major Amateur Hockey, award AND i would imagine by
- 1:06:11Speaker 2: the time that they get to that, point they would
- 1:06:13Speaker 2: have been in THE nhl. Already but you never, know,
- 1:06:15Speaker 2: Right AND i think that some of these, guys especially
- 1:06:19Speaker 2: from south of the, border some of The american players
- 1:06:21Speaker 2: who are in THE, WHL a lot of folks grew
- 1:06:25Speaker 2: up DREAMING i want to play For North, DAKOTA i
- 1:06:27Speaker 2: want to play For. MICHIGAN i want to play For. Minnesota,
- 1:06:29Speaker 2: HOWEVER i can't do. BOTH WHL OHL chl allowed me
- 1:06:35Speaker 2: at the time a quicker path to get to THE.
- 1:06:38Speaker 2: Nhl now that's not the case so much. So now
- 1:06:42Speaker 2: you could have a kid who dreams to play At,
- 1:06:45Speaker 2: denver they dream to play At Ohio, state or no
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: one dreams to play At Ohio. State maybe they dream
- 1:06:50Speaker 2: to play At, Michigan Michigan, State. Minnesota NOW i can do,
- 1:06:53Speaker 2: both AND i really enjoy this new world that we're
- 1:06:58Speaker 2: going into now with With Amateur High before we.
- 1:07:01Speaker 4: Wrap this podcast up With define the remainder of the,
- 1:07:04Speaker 4: offseason something that we touched on With johnny as, well
- 1:07:07Speaker 4: but has SOME whl ties and maybe SOME nhl ties
- 1:07:10Speaker 4: down the. Road three on three in OVERTIME whl will
- 1:07:15Speaker 4: try the no over and back rule for. Preseason they'll
- 1:07:19Speaker 4: vote on this at the end of preseason to see
- 1:07:21Speaker 4: if they want to install this rule. Permanently how would
- 1:07:25Speaker 4: you like to see this in play for THE nhl
- 1:07:27Speaker 4: down the?
- 1:07:27Speaker 2: Road, Yeah, so what THE whl are doing is once
- 1:07:30Speaker 2: you in the, preseason THE whl, preseason once you bring
- 1:07:34Speaker 2: the puck over the offensive blue, line once you're in
- 1:07:37Speaker 2: the offensive, zone you cannot bring it out on your
- 1:07:41Speaker 2: own and reload and regroup and then go back. IN
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: i feel like the blue line that might be a
- 1:07:47Speaker 2: little bit too. Tight i'm okay with the red. Line
- 1:07:49Speaker 2: maybe you can bring it out to the offensive half
- 1:07:52Speaker 2: of the neutrul zone and then you go. Over But
- 1:07:55Speaker 2: i'm excited to see how this. WORKS i personally am and.
- 1:08:00Speaker 2: MORE i don't want to say concerned. Over i'm over the.
- 1:08:04Speaker 2: SHOOTOUT i would love.
- 1:08:05Speaker 3: To See you're the same thing From.
- 1:08:07Speaker 2: Johnny, YEAH i would love to see a three on,
- 1:08:10Speaker 2: three seven minute overtime and then you know, what maybe
- 1:08:14Speaker 2: you end in, ties or maybe you do a three
- 1:08:16Speaker 2: points for a, win two points for an overtime, win
- 1:08:20Speaker 2: one point for a shootout or. NOT i don't know
- 1:08:23Speaker 2: how you do. It but it's just, Like i'm over the.
- 1:08:24Speaker 2: SHOOTOUT i know the W c H a a few
- 1:08:27Speaker 2: years ago they experimented with seven minutes of four On,
- 1:08:34Speaker 2: yeah seven minutes of four on, four if it's still,
- 1:08:37Speaker 2: tied five minutes of free on, three and then if
- 1:08:40Speaker 2: it's still, tied the. SHOOTOUT i think that's too much.
- 1:08:42Speaker 2: HOCKEY i would just get rid of the. Shootout But
- 1:08:44Speaker 2: i'm excited to see how this. Works but, YEAH i,
- 1:08:46Speaker 2: MEAN i think you're at a five minute, overtime which
- 1:08:49Speaker 2: already sometimes teams are just playing for the. Point anyway
- 1:08:51Speaker 2: they got the, POINT i just just, play, oh play keep.
- 1:08:55Speaker 2: AWAY i think this this will end some games, quicker
- 1:08:58Speaker 2: Which i'm. All i'm all.
- 1:08:59Speaker 4: For and here's the one. Thing when three on three
- 1:09:01Speaker 4: overtime was brought, in it was brought in to open
- 1:09:05Speaker 4: up the game as free flowing as it, gets chaos,
- 1:09:09Speaker 4: ball trading chance for. Chance all of a, sudden coaches
- 1:09:12Speaker 4: wizened up on this and they wanted to usher in
- 1:09:16Speaker 4: more of a game that was control. Based now we're
- 1:09:19Speaker 4: seeing this basically grind to a halt when you're carrying
- 1:09:22Speaker 4: the puck out of your own zone and hanging on to.
- 1:09:25Speaker 4: IT i go back here to the. Shootout, also this
- 1:09:27Speaker 4: happened in THE nhl back in Five toho six for one,
- 1:09:31Speaker 4: reason the league came out of a long year. Lockout
- 1:09:34Speaker 4: they were hurting for. Fans they had basically chased away
- 1:09:37Speaker 4: fans for a long long, time and they had to
- 1:09:40Speaker 4: find a way to revolutionize the. Game ties were used
- 1:09:44Speaker 4: at that point unless the. Playoffs of, course sudden death
- 1:09:46Speaker 4: overtime was, involved but the shootout was minor league. Based
- 1:09:50Speaker 4: long before, That john touched on. This we've seen you,
- 1:09:53Speaker 4: know a plenty in THE ecechl as. Well but now
- 1:09:57Speaker 4: it becomes a question of where are we twenty years.
- 1:10:00Speaker 4: Later how valuable is the.
- 1:10:02Speaker 2: Shootout i've had it with the, SHOOTOUT i, think you,
- 1:10:05Speaker 2: know And i'll use the crackt as an. Example historically
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: this team has not been great the, shootout. Right it's
- 1:10:11Speaker 2: not something you can. Practice you can practice, it but
- 1:10:15Speaker 2: you can't practice it. Right SO i think the shootout
- 1:10:19Speaker 2: served its. PURPOSE i think it's run its. Course, AGAIN
- 1:10:22Speaker 2: i would rather extend over time by a couple of
- 1:10:25Speaker 2: minutes and then you just end in a. Tie AND
- 1:10:27Speaker 2: i know everyone loves the three two one point, system you,
- 1:10:31Speaker 2: know but the, potential, right But i've run. It i've.
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: Run i'm over the. SHOOTOUT i think the three on
- 1:10:38Speaker 2: three overtime is stilled. EXCITING i think that still serves a,
- 1:10:41Speaker 2: purpose but if done the right, way AND i like
- 1:10:44Speaker 2: what THE whl is trying to do, AGAIN i would probably,
- 1:10:48Speaker 2: say once you cross the red, line you got to
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: stay in the in your, half in that half of the.
- 1:10:54Speaker 2: ICE i just feel like the blue line might be
- 1:10:56Speaker 2: a bit, tight but, hey maybe it opens things. Up but,
- 1:10:59Speaker 2: YEAH i would LIKED i would like to see the
- 1:11:02Speaker 2: shootout be reserved for penalty. Shots you, KNOW i hate
- 1:11:07Speaker 2: it in The World cup in soccer where you're deciding,
- 1:11:10Speaker 2: Games you're deciding stuff on penalty. Kicks you know you
- 1:11:13Speaker 2: can't have.
- 1:11:13Speaker 3: That all, Right so we are now pass the. Draft,
- 1:11:15Speaker 3: yeah we are now Past july.
- 1:11:17Speaker 4: ONE a lot of the national insiders are basically sitting
- 1:11:20Speaker 4: right back at the cottage seeing what. Happens and yet
- 1:11:23Speaker 4: the crack and half said they could still be carrying
- 1:11:26Speaker 4: these trade talks here.
- 1:11:27Speaker 3: Into this next.
- 1:11:28Speaker 4: MONTH i think when you take a look at the
- 1:11:31Speaker 4: state of the, roster their cap space and what they
- 1:11:34Speaker 4: have to add just based on what they need the
- 1:11:37Speaker 4: most to sit back and do. Nothing wasn't in, action
- 1:11:42Speaker 4: but it was more of a calculated use of brains of.
- 1:11:46Speaker 4: Smarts you don't want to overthink this with trying to
- 1:11:49Speaker 4: add talent that maybe could not a help you in
- 1:11:53Speaker 4: the short, term but also be block some of the
- 1:11:55Speaker 4: younger kids coming up right. Now and we heard this as,
- 1:11:58Speaker 4: Well but yet trade talks could still be out, there
- 1:12:01Speaker 4: so defind the remainder of The kraken off.
- 1:12:03Speaker 3: Season let's.
- 1:12:04Speaker 2: Go, YEAH i would like to see another trade. MADE
- 1:12:07Speaker 2: i would say an impactful. Trade. AGAIN i wouldn't make
- 1:12:10Speaker 2: a move or sign a guy just to make a
- 1:12:13Speaker 2: move or sign a. Guy it's gotta make. Sense but
- 1:12:15Speaker 2: when you talk about trying to turn over this, team
- 1:12:17Speaker 2: we've Seen jamie alexiak now sign In, Vancouver Jaden schwartz
- 1:12:21Speaker 2: now In, colorado two of the og members of this.
- 1:12:25Speaker 2: Team congratulations on the. Contracts thanks for your, service but
- 1:12:29Speaker 2: it's time to move. On AND i think as you
- 1:12:32Speaker 2: look to the, future you want to turn over the,
- 1:12:35Speaker 2: roster you want an eye toward. DEVELOPMENT i still think
- 1:12:39Speaker 2: that there are a couple of trade candidates on this.
- 1:12:42Speaker 2: ROSTER i Think jason and the rest of the staff
- 1:12:45Speaker 2: are looking toward the. Future they're trying to evaluate and
- 1:12:49Speaker 2: determine who's going to be on this team past The march,
- 1:12:53Speaker 2: deadline who's going to be on this team starting Next
- 1:12:56Speaker 2: september going into year, seven and then you work the.
- 1:12:59Speaker 2: Problem who do we see in our? Plan and then
- 1:13:01Speaker 2: you work the problem from there. BACKWARDS i would like
- 1:13:03Speaker 2: to see The kraken still explore that trade. Market we've
- 1:13:08Speaker 2: seen That, jason between Our Timmy paneren And Jason, robertson
- 1:13:13Speaker 2: he's gonna spend the. Money he's open to spend the.
- 1:13:15Speaker 2: Money i'm With, john, though how in the world that got?
- 1:13:18Speaker 2: OUT i, mean that is baffling to. Me but you,
- 1:13:21Speaker 2: KNOW i think to, me and we talked about this
- 1:13:23Speaker 2: in The Draft show On. Friday aggressive, offseason prolific offseason
- 1:13:28Speaker 2: isn't just about the end. Result it's about the action
- 1:13:32Speaker 2: you've gone and you've. Showed i'm willing to give you
- 1:13:35Speaker 2: first round. Picks i'm willing to trade. Players that's. Aggressive
- 1:13:39Speaker 2: it takes two to ten go. Right it's Not jason's
- 1:13:41Speaker 2: fault That dallas And robertson, said, no, right that's not his.
- 1:13:46Speaker 2: Fault it's Not Jason boshull's fault that our Temmy panaren
- 1:13:51Speaker 2: only wanted to go to la that was the only
- 1:13:53Speaker 2: team on this. List but somehow people want to Call
- 1:13:56Speaker 2: seattle a terrible, place a place that no one wants
- 1:13:58Speaker 2: to go to. Purgatory that's not the case at. All
- 1:14:02Speaker 2: people want to come. Here this is a beautiful. Place
- 1:14:04Speaker 2: anyone who's been here will tell you the same. Thing
- 1:14:06Speaker 2: Todd leichlwicke even said as much when he was running
- 1:14:09Speaker 2: the seat of The seahawks a handful of years. Ago
- 1:14:11Speaker 2: they could not pay enough to get people to come To.
- 1:14:14Speaker 2: Seattle now this is AN nfl. Destination it takes some,
- 1:14:17Speaker 2: time a Couple lombardi's, Help but don't give me this
- 1:14:20Speaker 2: nonsense About seattle not being a desirable place to. PLAY
- 1:14:23Speaker 2: i would like to see some more moves. Made as
- 1:14:26Speaker 2: of as it stands right, now there are still some
- 1:14:30Speaker 2: holes in the, roster Like john, said some boxes that
- 1:14:33Speaker 2: have to be. Checked BUT i don't think you've gotten
- 1:14:37Speaker 2: worse from last, season RIGHT i think going into the,
- 1:14:41Speaker 2: year this is still potentially an eighty to eighty five point,
- 1:14:47Speaker 2: team which is gonna have you in playoff contention for
- 1:14:50Speaker 2: sixty five, games which is where you were Right so
- 1:14:54Speaker 2: that's WHAT i think that's WHERE i think this team
- 1:14:56Speaker 2: is right. Now i'd love to see them make another.
- 1:14:58Speaker 2: Move you mentioned to Brink, it you Mentioned. Warrenski he's
- 1:15:01Speaker 2: off the table. Now probably Those Matt, barzel you, know
- 1:15:05Speaker 2: bring him back to THE, pnw Former Seattle. THUNDERBIRD i
- 1:15:08Speaker 2: think there are some names out there that are of.
- 1:15:11Speaker 2: Interest AND i, think Like jason said at the end
- 1:15:13Speaker 2: of the, Day jason And Jason bochrel, said at the
- 1:15:15Speaker 2: end of the, day you want to make moves that
- 1:15:17Speaker 2: are going to help this, team but aren't gonna get
- 1:15:19Speaker 2: in the way and block the progression in the path
- 1:15:23Speaker 2: of the young players and the young talent that you
- 1:15:24Speaker 2: have in the. SYSTEM i think you can still do
- 1:15:26Speaker 2: that while helping your team.
- 1:15:27Speaker 4: Out ten years, Ago vegas did not. Exist The Florida
- 1:15:31Speaker 4: panthers where persona non grata in the free agency. Game
- 1:15:35Speaker 4: look where they, At look where they are.
- 1:15:37Speaker 3: Now what do they have in?
- 1:15:38Speaker 4: Common it's about the winning thing and just look at
- 1:15:41Speaker 4: what happens here once you start building up years upon
- 1:15:44Speaker 4: years of. Winning we're talking about the NHL's version of
- 1:15:47Speaker 4: The Seattle. Seahawks well WHAT i, thought but.
- 1:15:49Speaker 2: But also it's the no, taxes it's the sun, right
- 1:15:52Speaker 2: It's sonny all the.
- 1:15:53Speaker 4: Time and the Tgerous yeah they.
- 1:15:56Speaker 2: Don't they don't pay taxes and and it's Always. Sonny
- 1:15:59Speaker 2: that's why they want.
- 1:16:00Speaker 3: To go with people get on an airplane.
- 1:16:01Speaker 2: Plan no one cares about an airplane, sonny AND i
- 1:16:05Speaker 2: don't pay.
- 1:16:06Speaker 4: Toxes i'm CERTAIN fifa had no qualms about coming out
- 1:16:09Speaker 4: here for The World.
- 1:16:09Speaker 2: Cup, oh by the, way real, quick THE i know
- 1:16:13Speaker 2: this is a hockey, show, ye the people That seattle

- 1:16:24Speaker 4: also oh my.
- 1:16:25Speaker 3: Good that's so much.
- 1:16:26Speaker 2: FUN i am seed the JUNETEENTH fifa celebration BEFORE us
- 1:16:31Speaker 2: And australia back on the. NINETEENTH i, mean the job

- 1:16:43Speaker 2: Seen they only See seattle through the lens of the
- 1:16:47Speaker 2: news and. Whatever everyone thinks that this is the worst
- 1:16:51Speaker 2: place to be In. America you come here and there
- 1:16:54Speaker 2: is a lot Of, oh y'all didn't tell me it
- 1:16:57Speaker 2: was like. This there is so many people who have
- 1:17:00Speaker 2: been pleasantly, surprised and we're just sitting here, like, hey,
- 1:17:04Speaker 2: COME i, mean this is a world class. City this
- 1:17:08Speaker 2: is an amazing city and The World cup has shown.
- 1:17:11Speaker 2: THAT i think a lot of folks have seen. That
- 1:17:13Speaker 2: SO i just want to say congratulations and thank you
- 1:17:16Speaker 2: to everybody who was in charge putting on This World.
- 1:17:19Speaker 2: CUP i don't know how many folks are going to
- 1:17:21Speaker 2: listen to this, podcast but it needs to be. Said

- 1:17:25Speaker 2: go and then hopefully when the twenty thirty One Women's
- 1:17:29Speaker 2: World cup is back in The, States seattle's a showing
- 1:17:32Speaker 2: for some.
- 1:17:32Speaker 3: Games let's wrap this up here with the grand.
- 1:17:34Speaker 4: Finale by the, way we don't know what's gonna happen
- 1:17:36Speaker 4: with The ellie tolvenenas of this podcast, year But Jaden
- 1:17:39Speaker 4: sports after The Colorado, Avalanche Jamie alexiakov to The Vancouver,
- 1:17:43Speaker 4: canucks and two of THE og. Mainstays as we, say
- 1:17:47Speaker 4: a part of The kraken expansion team from the expansion.
- 1:17:51Speaker 4: Process five years in one place tells you a lot
- 1:17:54Speaker 4: about their commitment and their heart and soul here to
- 1:17:57Speaker 4: the broadcast or to this process and the.
- 1:17:59Speaker 2: Broadcast they were great the.
- 1:18:00Speaker 4: Broadcast and that's my one takeaway with both of. Them
- 1:18:03Speaker 4: professionalism and an open door each and every time you
- 1:18:08Speaker 4: walked into that dressing. Room and they'll forever be linked
- 1:18:11Speaker 4: with the first great moment in cracking history back in
- 1:18:14Speaker 4: that twenty twenty three playoff.
- 1:18:15Speaker 2: Run, Yeah schwartz Always Jayden schwartz always greeted you with a,
- 1:18:18Speaker 2: smile the. Chirp you, Know i'll never forget him getting
- 1:18:21Speaker 2: on the plane and he goes what's up by that
- 1:18:24Speaker 2: was his, first you know. Thing he was such a
