Speaker A: Welcome to unsigned 518's Weekend Spotlight for the weekend of March 14, 2025. Got a great episode coming up for you. Got music from AB the autocrat, featuring a slew of local MCs. Also going to check in with a new segment. Our friends Patrick and Christian of our band show will be joining us weekly. So we're going to get the first segment of that. And I have a demo only version of the Sugar Hole doing a traditional Irish jig that you're gonna hear right here, only here. And that's all coming up. But without further ado, let's get started.

Speaker A: Up first, this Saturday at Empire Underground, we have 38 special with so many local MCs and hip hop luminaries from the 518 that it's. It's almost too much for me to even read off. But luckily for me, you know, A.B. the autocrat and Exquisite made a promo that tells everybody that's going to be at this show. So what I am going to do is I'm going to use that promo that they made to kind of blend into, I guess what you'd call like a mega mix of some of the MCs that you're going to see. So it'll, it'll blend into some songs. And all the music is from AB, the autocrat. But there's MCs in there. I have Mr. Pigs, Exquisite, Shist, JB, aka Dirty Moses and Timbo King will all be featured in the songs that I'm going to play. And they will also all be playing at Empire Underground for like the fucking biggest hip hop show of the year. So don't let me tell you about it. We're going to turn it over to AB the Autocrat and Exquisite and have them tell you what's going on this Saturday at Empire Underground.
• 2:10

  Speaker E: Dirty.

Speaker C: Hey yo, hey yo, hey yo. I rise with the sun. Another chance at greatness. My clock still ticking. I ain't worried about lateness. Since I work for myself. So my ground means patience. Still in my prime, let's face it so my time ain't wasted. Early bird in the dirt. Where the worms and the roots are. 10 toes to the pavement once I put my boots on. Guided out the mud. Sweat and tears mixed with blood. Childhood fears gave em up. Now it's time to live it up. Get into the bag. Papa's got a brand new, now I'm acting brand new. You're looking like a dead fool. Doing the same things we did when we was youngsters. When we was dumber. Feed that hunger. Smart people grow up, say hold up. The wise ones mature and get older. Others fall by the wayside. Never escape the lies of the tunnel. Their vision was muddled. And dreams the birds can only lead to trouble. Come on. Oh, I gotta get up.
• 4:34
  Speaker D: Early.

  Speaker D: Early.

Speaker C: So I gotta get up.
• 4:47
  Speaker A: Early.
• 4:50
Speaker C: We're striving for black excellence. Black opulence, yeah, that's what my only two options is. I can't accept nothing less. Or a lower vibration may lead to stagnation. I'm trying to lead a nation. I'm trying to meet the basics. Food, clothing and shelter. Teach a man to fish. Teach man to soak. Teach man to build. That's keeping it real. That's how you help us. That's the foundation. Proper planning prevents poor performance. Lord help us. We are not worthy. We haven't laid the groundwork. That's not how this works. You know how the story goes. When a rose grows from the concrete, an iron sharpens. Iron and alike minds meat. You stand on your conviction. When you meet opposition, the results equal the work that you put in. We gotta reach the children. We gotta feed the baby. So we gotta get up, get up. So I gotta get up.

• 13:18
Speaker A: Rap Clinic. Rap Clinic. All right, so back there we heard AB the Autocrat, Albany Manor. That was way too long. And then starting it off was AB with jb, AKA Dirty Moses. That one was called Get Up Early. But all the MCs that you just heard in that mega mix, I guess you could call it, will be performing, uh, this Saturday at Empire Underground. So get out there and support local hip hop. And so right now, what we're going to do is check in with my friends Patrick and Christian at our band show. And if you're not familiar with our band show, you should definitely go check them out. They've done a lot of stuff with bands up here. They're down near Poughkeepsie, but they've done stuff with Eerie Shortwave Radio Band and the Sugar Hold. A lot of bands have got the snorts have gone down there, but they offer something very unique and super cool. And it's done, you know, with. With no cost to the artists. It's basically, once you're on there, they. They treat you like a rock star. They. They give you a video performance and audio. They do Several mixes so that everything sounds great, it looks fantastic. And they do it all at no charge to the band, which is insane. So a week or so ago, they reached out and. And said, hey, you know, we should link up and do something, and hell yes, we should. So they're gonna be submitting to this show every week, and I'm gonna be submitting some stuff to the our band shows that run monthly. And what it's gonna look like, who knows, you know? But this is the music biz, so it. We kind of just shoot. Shoot from the hip. But anyway, they're really great guys. I'm really happy to be doing stuff with them, and I'm excited to see what they bring and the bands that they bring. But right now, I guess I'm gonna just turn it over to Christian and Patrick at our band show. So over to you guys.
• 15:41
Speaker G: Thank you, Andy, and welcome in to our band show. I'm Christian Ivanko.
• 15:45
Speaker H: And I'm Patrick W. Huber. Our band show is a Hudson Valley concert series that invites musicians of all genres to broadcast with us on YouTube.
• 15:53
Speaker G: We've hosted artists from Albany all the way down to New York City.
• 15:57
Speaker H: Our most recent episode is no different. And from the heart of the Hudson Valley, we featured the John Newhall Band.
• 16:03
Speaker G: They're really starting to pick up steam in the Dutchess county and Ulster area. And during our interview with them, we got a really cool snippet of how John took his solo act to a full band.
• 16:14
Speaker I: Pretty recently. This. At, like. At like this point last year, I kind of really got serious. I said, okay, I'm gonna do the TikTok, I'm gonna do the releases. I'm gonna do all the reels and things and really get serious about trying to make this happen. And it was solo for a while. I was very solo until I got a show booked at Bethel Woods. So Bethel woods is cool if you don't know where it is. It's like a major concert venue. And we were gonna be like an opening almost kind of thing for John Fogarty. And when I got off the phone with the guy, it was just me at that point. And he said, hey, by the way, you need a band, you have a band, right? And I kind of lied. I didn't know these guys really yet.
• 16:55
  Speaker A: I said.
• 16:55
Speaker I: I said, of course I do. Of course. So then phone stop. Phone calls kind of started going out immediately.
• 17:01
Speaker H: Bethel woods is an amazing place for a band to have their first gig, right, Chris?
• 17:05
Speaker G: To me, it's the holy ground. I go there every summer I love that place and it's really cool to see them bringing some local music to the big stage. And that's exactly what we are here to support. So without further ado, we'd like to introduce a song from John Newhall. This one is Starting Families from our band show.
• 17:53
Speaker B: Sunrise a fire in your eyes wipe your feet Next thing you know you find out you spend another night touching the telephone the right plan you're placing all your energy in things that break bones the next stop you know you never stop saying you never know but you know I know it sounded like what's the use of star candy? He speak his heart they hear the song and R and starting families.
• 18:44
  Speaker E: If.
• 18:44
Speaker B: The only time worth living is while you're young and young broken miracle until your life is done It's a wake up what's up one more meal kind of day until the next one come what's the use of starting family? You speak his hope they here as one and what's the use in starting families if the only time what did it while you're young in young broke America.
• 20:16
  Speaker A: Sa.
• 20:42
Speaker B: You gave you give right.
• 20:45
  Speaker D: Back.
• 20:49
Speaker B: And what's the point of making miracles if all you know is hate for how you act? Where's the voice that sees what can be.
• 21:12
  Speaker E: Whole?
• 21:12
Speaker B: They hear the sound families.
• 21:24
  Speaker E: If the.
• 21:25
Speaker B: Only time worth it is while we are young broke America.
• 21:50
Speaker H: What a great song and a really deep perspective from a young, dynamic group of good guys.
• 21:55
Speaker G: Yeah, for sure. And that's just one of several songs that they played on the show and they were all fantastic, but one that really spoke to us, which is why we chose it for this weekend. Spotlight. You can find songs like that and the rest of our back catalog on our YouTube channel at our bandshow. We even posted a cool article about them on our website, so visit ourbandshow.com.
• 22:15
Speaker H: And our next episode on March 22nd will be no different. We welcome in an indie surf jazz band from New Jersey Inlet to the.
• 22:23
Speaker G: Studio Inlet are a really cool band. They feature a blaring horn section. They have an awesome core foundation of bass drum and rhythmic surf inspired jazzy rock and it's really a cool combination of tunes that I'm very excited to have.
• 22:37
Speaker H: For more detail, keep an eye on the our band show social media accounts or the website or just keep listening to this fantastic podcast helmed by a very fashionable host.
• 22:48
Speaker G: He sure is and he's a great guy on top of that. And we're very thankful to be a part of the Weeknd spotlight. Andy back to you.
• 22:56
Speaker A: Thank you, Christian. That is Christian Ivanko and Patrick Huber of our band show. And you can check them out on YouTube. They've got a full, full list of local and regional bands that put on stellar performances. It's really great. And, you know, reach out to them and who knows, maybe you could be in there too. All right. Also coming up on Saturday is Shortwave Radio Band playing along with the Sugar hold at Unihog's St. Patty's Day celebration. There's the parade in Hoosick Falls and then the party at Unihog where Sugar hold will start the show and then Shortwave Radio Band will end so that the, you know, Sugar Hole can get their, their partying in, in early and we'll, we'll do, do a trade. But I believe everything starts at one as far as like the parade or whatnot. But get to Unihog early because it's probably going to be wild. It's supposed to be really nice out, and that's just gonna make for a killer St. Patty's Day. I, I, I'm not sure if I'm gonna reveal my St. Patty's Day outfit before the day of, but let's just say it's, it's over the top. And for me, anyway, it's over the top, but, you know, got to get out there and check it out or maybe just check out the pictures after. But being that the Sugar hold are good buddies of mine, Mikey had sent me over a demo. They're doing Rattlin Bog. And he was like, here's the demo. It's just the kind of the demo to help the guys, you know, prepare for the song. It's not intended to be released anywhere or anything like that, but I asked if I could play it, and he said I could as long as I qualify that this is just a demo and not a professional recording. But they are going to play it live at Unihog this Saturday, which is just another reason to get out there and support Unihog. So this Saturday, 1:00, St. Patty's Day celebration, my band, Shortwave Radio Band, will be playing. Our homies, the Sugar hold will be playing. And Unihog is just a place of wonderful, wonderful vibes, fantastic people, and it's gonna be a party. So right now check out this demo version of Ratlin Bog from the Sugar hold, and then come see them live this Saturday at, you know.

Speaker A: That is the sugar hole, the rattling bog here on unsigned 518's weekend spotlight. And make sure to catch them this Saturday after The Hoosik Falls St. Patrick's Day Parade at Unihog, where they will be playing along with shortwave RA Radio Band. So that is it for me. I do feel sort of bad for having it be kind of a truncated episode. I was really struggling this week with all of the things that I have going on in my life and I, I honestly was like, I don't even know how I'm ever, ever going to possibly squeeze in time to record a. A episode of Weekend Spotlight this week just because I have so much stuff going on. But I, I found time and kind of a. A shortened way. But I, I hope it wasn't too noticeable and I, I hope you enjoyed it. I thought the mega mix of hip hop was rad, but Anyway, enjoy your St. Patty's Day weekend. Be super safe. This will be, it'll be my first no alcohol St. Patty's Day in, let's say, just a really long time. So it'll, it'll be interesting. But I'm really looking forward to it. So I hope everybody el forward to it. Everybody stays safe. Happy St. Patty's Day. And I'm Andy Scullen. This is unsigned 518's Weekend Spotlight. I'll see you on the road.
