- 0:10Speaker 1: Welcome to Girls Gone Hallmark, a Hallmark review podcast. I'm
- 0:13Speaker 1: Megan and I'm a longtime Hallmark fan. I'm Wendy. I'm
- 0:15Speaker 1: a former homwerk cater. Today we have something a little
- 0:18Speaker 1: bit different. Recently, we asked for your help for your
- 0:22Speaker 1: feedback in our first ever listener survey, and considering we
- 0:26Speaker 1: have been doing this podcast for over five years, it
- 0:30Speaker 1: was perhaps a little bit overdue, but y'all showed up
- 0:33Speaker 1: in a really impressive way. Every time we would get it,
- 0:36Speaker 1: I was like, oh my gosh, Oh my gosh, it's
- 0:38Speaker 1: very exciting to say the reviews roll in. Yeah, exciting
- 0:43Speaker 1: is not how we're described you a little bit nervous.
- 0:46Speaker 1: It did make me nervous, but there was a lot
- 0:49Speaker 1: of great constructive feedback. Yes, that I think if you
- 0:53Speaker 1: are a regular listener you have already seen implemented. There
- 0:57Speaker 1: was also some other things that made me hurt my
- 1:00Speaker 1: feelings a little bit. Yes, I will say the vast
- 1:03Speaker 1: majority of people were very complimentary, had very nice things
- 1:07Speaker 1: to say. Overall, it was very positive, but a lot
- 1:10Speaker 1: of you did have constructive ideas and look, I took
- 1:13Speaker 1: everything personally. It's just in my nature. But at the
- 1:16Speaker 1: end of the day. Some of these things we are
- 1:18Speaker 1: able to look at and say, like that's actually a
- 1:20Speaker 1: third point, like what can we do about that? And
- 1:21Speaker 1: some of it won't be changing. Yeah, don't worry. We're
- 1:24Speaker 1: not going to put anybody on blast here for like, no,
- 1:26Speaker 1: it was all anonymous. It was all anonymous. Couldn't put
- 1:29Speaker 1: you on blast if I tried. Have you seen recently,
- 1:32Speaker 1: like people on Instagram and TikTok who have like big
- 1:35Speaker 1: social platforms who get nasty dms, like they'll screenshot it
- 1:41Speaker 1: now and like put it out and be like this
- 1:44Speaker 1: with the person who sent it. Yes, oh yes, don't worry, guys,
- 1:49Speaker 1: we're not doing play stupid games, win stupid prizes. I
- 1:51Speaker 1: guess yeah, I guess so. Right. So in this episode,
- 1:55Speaker 1: rather than reading all the lovely comments you left about
- 1:59Speaker 1: how much you like, how are your favorite Hallmark podcasts,
- 2:01Speaker 1: how you like sitting and chatting at the kitchen table
- 2:03Speaker 1: with you ladies, which we loved all of that, and
- 2:06Speaker 1: I took all that to heart. I might honestly print
- 2:09Speaker 1: a couple of those up and put it in our
- 2:10Speaker 1: new office. I was, I was like, is she get
- 2:13Speaker 1: a needle point something not needle point it, but like,
- 2:16Speaker 1: you know, maybe make a nice quote in a frame. Yeah,
- 2:19Speaker 1: for our new office space. Yeah, it's the equivalent of
- 2:22Speaker 1: like the motivational posters hang in there, look employee of
- 2:27Speaker 1: the month man. Right, When you work for yourself, you
- 2:29Speaker 1: got to make your own motivation. Agree, But we are
- 2:32Speaker 1: going to address some of the some of the criticism,
- 2:35Speaker 1: some of the feedback that you had because we have thoughts.
- 2:39Speaker 1: We have thoughts. I mean, I think it's fair to
- 2:41Speaker 1: say we hear what a lot of you are saying.
- 2:46Speaker 1: There are some things we might change, and there are
- 2:47Speaker 1: some things we're just not going to, Like we can't
- 2:51Speaker 1: have those changes or we just simply don't want to. Yes,
- 2:53Speaker 1: at the end of the day, we want to make
- 2:55Speaker 1: a product that you guys are interested in. Yeah, but
- 2:58Speaker 1: still but stay true to who we aw and so
- 3:01Speaker 1: the changes that we can make that make it a
- 3:04Speaker 1: more pleasant listening experience and having that outside feedback is helpful.
- 3:08Speaker 1: So let's start with I thought you were gonna say,
- 3:10Speaker 1: take a break, y'a all ready for some ads. Don't worry,
- 3:15Speaker 1: we're gonna talk about it. The first thing a lot
- 3:18Speaker 1: of you had talked about was not a lot Actually
- 3:20Speaker 1: about fifteen percent of people mentioned the News and Notes segment.
- 3:25Speaker 1: Not everybody loves it. Some people do love it, some
- 3:28Speaker 1: people are like, I love learning more about it. Not
- 3:30Speaker 1: everybody loves it. This is what's funny because if you
- 3:36Speaker 1: have been a long time listener, when we first started
- 3:39Speaker 1: this podcast, we didn't do news and notes like that.
- 3:43Speaker 1: We didn't we didn't get any information. We would pull
- 3:47Speaker 1: like this is a fun fact, and we called it
- 3:49Speaker 1: news and Notes. But it was nothing like here's the writer,
- 3:52Speaker 1: here's the director, here's the actors, here's what the benn.
- 3:54Speaker 1: We'd be like, Oh, Tyler Hines said blah blah blah
- 3:56Speaker 1: about working on this movie exactly. But five years ago
- 3:59Speaker 1: we got DM I remember who it was from, who said,
- 4:03Speaker 1: you guys are not doing enough right And then that's
- 4:07Speaker 1: where News and Notes was born. We said, okay, challenge accepted. Yeah,
- 4:13Speaker 1: I mean I think it has gotten longer and longer.
- 4:16Speaker 1: That segment has gotten longer and longer over time. It's
- 4:19Speaker 1: hard to know who where do we draw the line at, Yes,
- 4:23Speaker 1: your two big stars in the movie and then everybody
- 4:26Speaker 1: else is not important. No, I don't I don't want
- 4:30Speaker 1: to do that. We had somebody a producer on a series,
- 4:37Speaker 1: send us a DM and say thank you so much
- 4:39Speaker 1: for including these other people who don't get mentioned, right,
- 4:42Speaker 1: and so that makes me feel good when we're covering
- 4:46Speaker 1: not everybody, but a majority of the people who have
- 4:49Speaker 1: worked worked on a movie or a series. But you,
- 4:53Speaker 1: y'all don't like that. Not everybody loves it, so we
- 4:56Speaker 1: did not. You may have noticed this change recently, we didn't.
- 5:00Speaker 1: News and notes. It still exists, but we're not running
- 5:03Speaker 1: down every actor. We're shortening it and adding additional information
- 5:06Speaker 1: to the website. So we're still running down the key points,
- 5:10Speaker 1: giving you a bit of a frame of reference, but
- 5:12Speaker 1: there's more information in the show notes at girlscone Hallmark
- 5:16Speaker 1: dot com for you to peruse on your own time,
- 5:19Speaker 1: should you be so interested. So we compromised a little bit,
- 5:24Speaker 1: just a couple little bits of feedback. One person said, tonally,
- 5:27Speaker 1: I think it's a weird way to start a recap.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Then you go to a commercial, then the recap begins.
- 5:33Speaker 1: It's a little odd. Another person said, I find the
- 5:36Speaker 1: list of acting and directing credits far too long and boring.
- 5:38Speaker 1: I'trather just get straight to the first impressions so heard. Yeah,
- 5:43Speaker 1: I'd be curious if you've listened in the last we've
- 5:46Speaker 1: been doing a month about a month now, If you
- 5:50Speaker 1: are enjoying the shorter segment of news and notes, I
- 5:56Speaker 1: gotta tell you, it hurts a little bit for me. I
- 5:58Speaker 1: hear you. I know that we were so proud of it,
- 6:01Speaker 1: the work that we did there. Yeah, and truly, I
- 6:03Speaker 1: love seeing the crossover, the connections of like, who's work
- 6:08Speaker 1: together before, who's done what before? Oh, I'm interested in
- 6:12Speaker 1: maybe watching that now because I saw that they worked
- 6:14Speaker 1: in this. I like that. But I'm a geek, so well,
- 6:18Speaker 1: me too. I like information like that. And what's interesting
- 6:21Speaker 1: is we got some people who were like, nobody else
- 6:23Speaker 1: does this. I love that you do it, and people
- 6:25Speaker 1: who are like nobody else does this? Why are you
- 6:27Speaker 1: doing it? Yeah? Exactly, so exactly. Are you ready for
- 6:30Speaker 1: the next hot topic? I am. It's ads. It's money
- 6:34Speaker 1: all Nobody wants to talk about money, but everyone wants
- 6:36Speaker 1: to make money. Nobody's mad when you walk into the
- 6:39Speaker 1: gap and they expect to pay for your jeans. We
- 6:42Speaker 1: would like to make money. We like to get paid
- 6:44Speaker 1: for the things that we do. This podcast is completely
- 6:47Speaker 1: free to you, and I know ads are annoying, I
- 6:49Speaker 1: get it. I don't. I'm post commercial. I don't watch
- 6:51Speaker 1: television with commercials, but I do tap tap tap through
- 6:55Speaker 1: many ads on the podcast I listen to, and that
- 6:58Speaker 1: is unfortunately going to be your fate too. How Ever,
- 7:03Speaker 1: we heard you on the volume. Hopefully you have noticed
- 7:06Speaker 1: a difference. Hopefully Howie Mandel is not screaming at you.
- 7:10Speaker 1: We did two big things when we reach out to
- 7:12Speaker 1: our host. We asked for the level at which the
- 7:14Speaker 1: ads are normalized, and we're doing the same with our
- 7:17Speaker 1: podcast audio. So there should not be a big change
- 7:21Speaker 1: in the more or recent episodes. If you've noticed that, great,
- 7:26Speaker 1: If you haven't. If there's still a big change, let
- 7:28Speaker 1: us know specifically what episode I'd be curious. I am
- 7:31Speaker 1: not an audio engineer. I will admit that everything I
- 7:34Speaker 1: know I learned from the internet. Google is my friend.
- 7:37Speaker 1: But we are an or do we make enough money
- 7:39Speaker 1: to pay an audio engineer? Actually, and we are an
- 7:42Speaker 1: independently produced podcast. We're doing it all on our own.
- 7:44Speaker 1: I've learned how to edit and do all of this
- 7:47Speaker 1: on my own from the Internet, from trial and error,
- 7:49Speaker 1: and so, which is how the vast But nobody's going
- 7:52Speaker 1: to college for podcast production at least nobody my age.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Yeah maybe now maybe now yea audio production sure, but
- 8:00Speaker 1: we have made a move to address that. We've also
- 8:04Speaker 1: moved the ad placement later in the episode, so it's
- 8:09Speaker 1: not right after first impression. Yeah. Sometimes it's hard for
- 8:12Speaker 1: us to remember because we've done it so many years
- 8:14Speaker 1: where actually we haven't done it so many we how
- 8:18Speaker 1: long have we been running ads? Two years? A year
- 8:20Speaker 1: and a half. Okay, so you know, you get familiar
- 8:23Speaker 1: with the format. When we're recording this. It feels like
- 8:26Speaker 1: natural to break in certain spots. So if you ever
- 8:30Speaker 1: notice that, we'll be like, oh, let's take a break,
- 8:33Speaker 1: or you know, it's because we're just not in rhythm yet. Yes.
- 8:38Speaker 1: The other thing we did is a lot of people
- 8:40Speaker 1: talked about the gambling ads. I did look at the
- 8:42Speaker 1: back end. Gambling ads accounted for less than two percent
- 8:46Speaker 1: of all ads, but a lot of people said they
- 8:49Speaker 1: were getting a ton of them, and I had noticed
- 8:50Speaker 1: them too. We turned off the gambling ads. There are
- 8:54Speaker 1: some sensitive ad categories that we can automatically turn off.
- 8:56Speaker 1: We reach out to our host, had them turn off
- 8:58Speaker 1: the gambling ads. We're still getting them. That's an advertiser issue.
- 9:02Speaker 1: They're categorizing them as something else, perhaps entertainment or something else.
- 9:07Speaker 1: Maybe they're categorizing it as sports and not gambling specifically.
- 9:12Speaker 1: So that's kind of a case by case. But we're
- 9:14Speaker 1: trying to make it a more pleasant listening experience, So
- 9:16Speaker 1: we want to monetize, we want to do it in
- 9:18Speaker 1: a way that's not miserable for the listener exactly. And
- 9:23Speaker 1: we do put the vast majority of our ads at
- 9:25Speaker 1: the end of our episode. Yes, can I read what
- 9:28Speaker 1: a listener said? And sure, sometimes an episode shows at
- 9:31Speaker 1: twenty five minutes, but the last six to eight minutes
- 9:33Speaker 1: are all ads. The actual content feels shorter than it seems.
- 9:39Speaker 1: I think there's two things here. Most of our episodes,
- 9:42Speaker 1: if it's a regular, typical Hallmark movie review, it's sometimes
- 9:48Speaker 1: somewhere lands between twenty to thirty minutes. Twenty to thirty minutes,
- 9:54Speaker 1: that's how long it takes us. We never generally shoot
- 9:58Speaker 1: for that time. It just is organically what happens. Yes,
- 10:02Speaker 1: the bulk of our ads do tack on at the
- 10:06Speaker 1: end of the episode. Guys, you don't have to listen
- 10:08Speaker 1: to those ads. Turn the episode off then if you
- 10:11Speaker 1: want to tap through them. So the next episode runs great,
- 10:15Speaker 1: do that too, but we find that to be the
- 10:18Speaker 1: least intrusive way to run ads on our show that
- 10:23Speaker 1: aren't heavy upfront or heavy in the middle. All good points. Also,
- 10:30Speaker 1: some of you mentioned like I would prefer host red ads.
- 10:32Speaker 1: We would to know we would too. Those are really
- 10:35Speaker 1: hard to get. That's a whole separate animal. The dynamic
- 10:38Speaker 1: ad insertion, which is what we have. We drop ad
- 10:42Speaker 1: slots and those are filled on the back end of
- 10:44Speaker 1: our host host red ads. It's a whole different production animal.
- 10:49Speaker 1: Once again, we are a independently produced podcast. So if
- 10:54Speaker 1: you know someone wants to take on pro bono pitching
- 10:56Speaker 1: work for us, Hello at girls, go on Hollmark dot com.
- 10:58Speaker 1: Hit us up. Yeah, love that I need. I need
- 11:02Speaker 1: an extra twelve hours in my day. Not enough time.
- 11:05Speaker 1: There were two similar segments when she will think thought
- 11:09Speaker 1: we were a little too soft, too soft in our ratings,
- 11:12Speaker 1: in our ratings and in our wishes segments. Sometimes oh okay,
- 11:17Speaker 1: so some Here are some quotes. I wish the final
- 11:20Speaker 1: movie scores were a little more honest. The Ali Sweeney
- 11:22Speaker 1: Ranch movie was just bad, but you gave it a
- 11:25Speaker 1: three that didn't match your feedback. It's okay to give
- 11:27Speaker 1: ones and twos. Occasionally I get concerned with the finding
- 11:30Speaker 1: mister Christmas Episodes, that you're too afraid of hurting people's
- 11:33Speaker 1: feelings to give critique this one. It's a good podcast
- 11:37Speaker 1: that could be great with a little more courage. And finally,
- 11:42Speaker 1: if everything is always so positive, it seems boring. Please
- 11:44Speaker 1: keep pointing out things that you don't like. Where do
- 11:46Speaker 1: you want to start? I think this is a hard
- 11:48Speaker 1: line to walk. I want to critique a performance and
- 11:53Speaker 1: not an actor. I want to acknowledge. When Benjamin Yers
- 11:57Speaker 1: made a video for us about voting for his movie
- 12:01Speaker 1: in the Countdown to Christmas Bracket, he was like, no
- 12:03Speaker 1: one sets out to make a bad movie. We all
- 12:04Speaker 1: show up to work every day and want to make
- 12:06Speaker 1: a great movie. I think about no one sets out
- 12:09Speaker 1: to make a bad movie constantly, because nobody shows up
- 12:13Speaker 1: to work thinking I'm gonna make this two star movie, right,
- 12:17Speaker 1: that might earn back what it cost to make it.
- 12:20Speaker 1: Uh huh. So I don't want to hurt anybody's feelings,
- 12:24Speaker 1: But like you said, there's no value in a positive
- 12:28Speaker 1: review if we don't always have the opposite feeling, and
- 12:31Speaker 1: I think we do have that take sometimes. I feel
- 12:35Speaker 1: like I have that take often. I mean, we have
- 12:38Speaker 1: given a one star rating to movie. Absolutely, We've given
- 12:42Speaker 1: lots of two star ratings to movies. I agree with you,
- 12:47Speaker 1: it's a fine line. I think when we first started out,
- 12:52Speaker 1: it was easy for me Wendy to kind of shit
- 12:55Speaker 1: on these movies, and we had gotten some feedback from
- 13:00Speaker 1: not people in the industry, but like listeners who were like,
- 13:05Speaker 1: you're not taking into account, like these are people's livelihoods
- 13:10Speaker 1: these and I that has stuck with me for a
- 13:13Speaker 1: really long time, like, I don't want to be this person.
- 13:17Speaker 1: I don't want to be that stereotypical reviewer who thinks
- 13:24Speaker 1: that everything is bad. That's not a fun place to
- 13:28Speaker 1: operate from. That's why I'm a former Homewark hater. Like
- 13:31Speaker 1: I did think these movies were bad, but over the
- 13:34Speaker 1: years have really come to appreciate the work that goes
- 13:40Speaker 1: into it, and there are a lot of good things
- 13:43Speaker 1: about these movies, and we rate them as their own genre.
- 13:47Speaker 1: Movies are their own genre of movies. We're not comparing
- 13:50Speaker 1: them to theatrical releases. They're not operating on the same scale.
- 13:54Speaker 1: And you guys, I'm not Roger Eber either like I
- 13:57Speaker 1: didn't I know Jack Shi t about out what makes
- 14:01Speaker 1: a good movie other than just being a entertainment consumer.
- 14:04Speaker 1: One comment came in and said they've gotten too popular
- 14:08Speaker 1: and because we're on the radar of Hallmark now we've
- 14:12Speaker 1: pulled back our critiques. I think that's untrue. That has
- 14:15Speaker 1: not happened. I'm aware of the real people behind these projects,
- 14:19Speaker 1: and sometimes I do temper my critique in that regard.
- 14:22Speaker 1: I will admit, because I am a human. I'm not
- 14:24Speaker 1: one hundred percent objective all the time. And it is
- 14:27Speaker 1: something that I've been trying to think about. Is my
- 14:29Speaker 1: critique genuine because I never set out to give a
- 14:32Speaker 1: disingenuous critique. That's not my point, like, oh, I'm going
- 14:35Speaker 1: to pad this, but sometimes it happens it we're people,
- 14:41Speaker 1: But it isn't because I don't want Hallmark to be
- 14:43Speaker 1: mad at me. No, because the reality is, while we
- 14:47Speaker 1: have gotten to know people at Hallmark, while we have
- 14:50Speaker 1: access to screeners and sometimes access to talent because of
- 14:53Speaker 1: the people at Hallmark, we've gotten some cool opportunities. Because
- 14:56Speaker 1: of Hallmark. The podcast exists with or without their participation,
- 15:00Speaker 1: and we're certainly not financially beholden to them. Yeah. No
- 15:04Speaker 1: one at Hallmark is telling us like, oh, no, you
- 15:07Speaker 1: need to be nicer and never once, nor do Meghan
- 15:11Speaker 1: and I operate in that way, like, oh, we want
- 15:13Speaker 1: Hallmark to see us, so we're going to play nice
- 15:16Speaker 1: and be nicer and write these movies. That's not how
- 15:19Speaker 1: we operate either. No, but we're also not the podcast
- 15:22Speaker 1: that's going to show up with the intention of being
- 15:25Speaker 1: the Hallmark hater. That's not our goal, right, Like I
- 15:28Speaker 1: come at this wanting to like the movie. Sometimes I don't,
- 15:32Speaker 1: and I think we're pretty honest when it doesn't work
- 15:34Speaker 1: for us. Yeah, for sure. Can we address the Finding
- 15:38Speaker 1: Mister Christmas comment? Yeah, okay, so the comment you read,
- 15:42Speaker 1: I get concerned with the Finding Mister Christmas episodes that
- 15:46Speaker 1: you're too afraid of hurting people's feelings to give critique.
- 15:50Speaker 1: Season two was interesting for us because we got an
- 15:54Speaker 1: incredible opportunity early on to be part of their reunion episode. Yeah,
- 16:03Speaker 1: we knew who won m we met these people. But
- 16:09Speaker 1: you guys, if you've ever read my recaps on the
- 16:12Speaker 1: on our website, we said Gabriel not a great actor,
- 16:16Speaker 1: cool guy, the nicest person you will ever meet one
- 16:19Speaker 1: of the nicest, Like I liked him as a person,
- 16:21Speaker 1: not a great actor, and Gabriel knew. Gabriel made a
- 16:25Speaker 1: self deprecating comment at the reunion, like he was like, Oh,
- 16:28Speaker 1: were you so surprised to say that I didn't win.
- 16:30Speaker 1: I thought it was gonna be hard for me to
- 16:31Speaker 1: talk about the show and knowing who the winner was.
- 16:32Speaker 1: It wasn't really that hard to just live in the
- 16:34Speaker 1: moment of the episodes and react. What was different is
- 16:38Speaker 1: because we had met them, I had a very different
- 16:41Speaker 1: perspective than I would have just watching them on television. Same.
- 16:45Speaker 1: I knew Gabriel was a cool guy. I knew Davy
- 16:49Speaker 1: will walk up to you and look you in the
- 16:50Speaker 1: eye and have this super genuine moment with you. I
- 16:54Speaker 1: knew that, what's mister golden retriever energy? Right, Like, we
- 16:59Speaker 1: had a moment with those guys where we got to
- 17:01Speaker 1: know them. It was on set, it was in a
- 17:03Speaker 1: press relationship. I don't for any minute think that we
- 17:06Speaker 1: are friends with them. But like Jake, who's in one episode,
- 17:10Speaker 1: we got to talk to him and we had like
- 17:13Speaker 1: a moment. I'm like, oh, I know them a little
- 17:15Speaker 1: bit more, and so yeah, we did like them. Yeah,
- 17:19Speaker 1: if you're coming for Robbie, Wendy will tell you. We
- 17:23Speaker 1: saw the first two screeners before we went to the set,
- 17:26Speaker 1: and you said, who do you like? And I said,
- 17:29Speaker 1: Robbie's my favorite? Was he my favorite? From day one?
- 17:32Speaker 1: He was? Now, I know not everybody loved Robbie. Okay, fine,
- 17:36Speaker 1: we had different opinions. I didn't think we were too generous.
- 17:39Speaker 1: I think a lot of people don't like the reality
- 17:42Speaker 1: genre that Hallmark has taken on. Yeah, and so I
- 17:47Speaker 1: think maybe a lot of people might want us to
- 17:51Speaker 1: hate on that. Oh, but you and I are fans
- 17:56Speaker 1: of the reality genre, especially this reality competition genre. I
- 18:01Speaker 1: love Finding Mister Christmas. I'm pissed that it's not coming back.
- 18:04Speaker 1: Me too, but I would never Yes, I can be
- 18:08Speaker 1: been nice to rust In, y'all. Mecca didn't like rust
- 18:12Speaker 1: In that at all. Guys, not as a person. I
- 18:15Speaker 1: didn't dislike them as a person. But we're fans of
- 18:18Speaker 1: the genre, and I think we were fans of the show,
- 18:21Speaker 1: and so that's why we were excited. And then you know,
- 18:23Speaker 1: there's this human element and we got to meet some
- 18:25Speaker 1: of these people, so like, yes, do we get kind
- 18:28Speaker 1: of swayed a little bit. Yeah, because we're people. Because
- 18:32Speaker 1: we're humans, you know, that's interesting. We are fans of
- 18:34Speaker 1: the genre. I also think people wanted us to be
- 18:36Speaker 1: more critical of the acting. We're critical of where they are.
- 18:41Speaker 1: These people are not established Hallmark actors yet they're at
- 18:45Speaker 1: the beginning. I could talk all day about finding mister Christmas.
- 18:47Speaker 1: Let's move on. Okay, let's move on. People don't like
- 18:58Speaker 1: it when we do housekeeping. I don't like the plugging
- 19:01Speaker 1: of the Facebook group every episode. Maybe limit it to
- 19:03Speaker 1: one episode per week. Whenever you bring it up, I
- 19:05Speaker 1: tune out. I've tried to change up, like the promos
- 19:09Speaker 1: we do up top. Yeah, that, unfortunately is another one
- 19:11Speaker 1: of the costs of doing business things I try and
- 19:13Speaker 1: rush through it pretty quickly. Yeah, Like, we got a
- 19:15Speaker 1: lot of stuff going on outside of the podcast. I
- 19:17Speaker 1: just want people to know, like, hey, I mean, if
- 19:20Speaker 1: Facebook's not for you, it's not for you. It's fine.
- 19:22Speaker 1: Facebook's not for me. Yeah, but I have a group
- 19:25Speaker 1: over there, and thankfully now it kind of just operates
- 19:28Speaker 1: on its own, like you and I don't need to
- 19:29Speaker 1: be in there kind of like managing it. But if
- 19:32Speaker 1: it's not for you, like this is we have to promote,
- 19:35Speaker 1: we have to promote. Are the most people are not
- 19:37Speaker 1: going to find us? And then what's the point of
- 19:39Speaker 1: doing this show? And some people are like, hey, I'm
- 19:42Speaker 1: brand new to the show and they haven't heard us
- 19:44Speaker 1: say at five hundred and sixty two other times exactly,
- 19:47Speaker 1: so I did hear you. I do try and change
- 19:50Speaker 1: those up, but unfortunately, and I try and just make
- 19:52Speaker 1: it like a quick hey, this is what we got
- 19:54Speaker 1: going on. Check us out. Yeah, one of my favorite podcasts.
- 19:58Speaker 1: I'm not going to mention it here, but one of
- 19:59Speaker 1: my favorite podc Like they always start at the top
- 20:01Speaker 1: of the episode of like they want to know they
- 20:03Speaker 1: read a comment, a review, Yeah, a review. I just
- 20:07Speaker 1: tap tap through it because I don't mean too. I
- 20:08Speaker 1: don't I don't care. Yeah, same, I don't care. I
- 20:11Speaker 1: like reading our I like reading our reviews on our podcast. Yeah,
- 20:15Speaker 1: and I think the person who writes it in is
- 20:17Speaker 1: probably excited to hear their review too, But maybe everybody
- 20:20Speaker 1: else other than that doesn't. That's okay. You can be
- 20:23Speaker 1: like Megan and Wendy and just tap tap tap tap. Yeah.
- 20:26Speaker 1: This is an interesting ones, some people said when asked
- 20:29Speaker 1: about the first impressions segment that we could go a
- 20:31Speaker 1: little deeper. First impressions sometimes seem to lean more toward
- 20:34Speaker 1: Quippi humor than relevant insights. I think that's an exact
- 20:38Speaker 1: reflection of what we want that segment to be. Yeah,
- 20:40Speaker 1: I'm not changing anything about it. It's two. It's my
- 20:43Speaker 1: favorite thing to come up with every episode. We dig
- 20:47Speaker 1: into our insights in the additional likes and wishes segment
- 20:51Speaker 1: of the episode. So, yes, I would say, first impression
- 20:56Speaker 1: is not a this is what I thought about this
- 20:58Speaker 1: movie people laugh. Yes, that's supposed to be It's supposed
- 21:02Speaker 1: to be funny. It's supposed to be like a one
- 21:04Speaker 1: sentence summary of where I'm coming from. This is what
- 21:08Speaker 1: you might expect from my detailed likes and wishes. Yeah,
- 21:12Speaker 1: it's supposed to give you a hint like did I
- 21:14Speaker 1: like it? Did? Did they notice the funny thing I noticed? Yeah? Exactly. Overall,
- 21:20Speaker 1: first impressions in case somebody's wondering on a scale of
- 21:22Speaker 1: one to five, scored four point three. So most people
- 21:25Speaker 1: like it. But if you don't, but I think it's
- 21:28Speaker 1: fair to be, like, we'll keep listening past the first impression.
- 21:31Speaker 1: You're going to hear a more detailed recap review opinion
- 21:38Speaker 1: in our likes and wishes segments. Yeah, if it's not
- 21:41Speaker 1: getting there for you, I'm I'm I'm curious what's not
- 21:46Speaker 1: getting there for you? So email us at low at
- 21:48Speaker 1: Girls Coming. When we go through likes and wishes, are
- 21:50Speaker 1: you still missing something some people had? We have gotten
- 21:53Speaker 1: feedback in the past. People have said this, you're not
- 21:55Speaker 1: recapping the movie. That's true. We don't recap the movies.
- 21:59Speaker 1: We do this and then we talk about the movie.
- 22:02Speaker 1: And I think that's very true of a lot of
- 22:05Speaker 1: movie reviews. They're not doing a full We're not doing
- 22:08Speaker 1: a full recap. That is just is not what we do.
- 22:10Speaker 1: We've tried with The Way Home. It's so hard. Sorry,
- 22:14Speaker 1: it's so yeah to do a minute by minute recap. Hi.
- 22:18Speaker 1: I think most people have seen the movie. They just
- 22:19Speaker 1: want to talk about it. Yeah. Yeah, we talked a little.
- 22:22Speaker 1: We asked you what you thought about non Hallmark content
- 22:25Speaker 1: on the main feed. Most people are fine with it.
- 22:28Speaker 1: Some people said, don't do it. Stick with Hallmark. We
- 22:32Speaker 1: will probably continue to branch out a little bit. Hallmark
- 22:34Speaker 1: is always going to be our bread and butter over
- 22:36Speaker 1: here on Girls Gone, Hallmark that's what we built this
- 22:38Speaker 1: brand on. But a lot of people got really into
- 22:42Speaker 1: the PBS stuff, and my advice to you would be
- 22:44Speaker 1: just to skip those episodes. And we're not doing it
- 22:46Speaker 1: at the expense of Hallmark content. No, we're still covering
- 22:49Speaker 1: Hallmark movies. We're still covering all the Hallmark series. These
- 22:52Speaker 1: were Hallmark adjacent ish and so I get it if
- 22:57Speaker 1: you don't want to watch new stuff. I don't always
- 22:59Speaker 1: want to watch new stuff either. I don't always want
- 23:02Speaker 1: to watch Hallmark. Oh, some people said I would push
- 23:06Speaker 1: this stuff, that stuff to Patreon. Let's be frank, it's
- 23:10Speaker 1: not going to Let's talk about Patreon for a minute.
- 23:12Speaker 1: That's not going to work. It's just not going to work.
- 23:15Speaker 1: Patreon is a weird little animal. We have tried to
- 23:20Speaker 1: get Girls Gone Hallmark listeners over to Patreon with the
- 23:24Speaker 1: exclusive Hallmark content over there. It is when our podcast
- 23:28Speaker 1: was much smaller, we tried to have Hallmark content over
- 23:31Speaker 1: there and it wasn't the biggest hit. People have suggested
- 23:35Speaker 1: doing ad free episodes over there. I'm not super opposed
- 23:38Speaker 1: to it. I'm not opposed to it at all. My
- 23:40Speaker 1: only opposition is I wanted to make financial sense in
- 23:44Speaker 1: terms of the time it takes. It doesn't take that
- 23:47Speaker 1: much time, but it is an additional thing to add
- 23:49Speaker 1: to the plate to publish those episodes over on Patreon,
- 23:52Speaker 1: and I would want it to be a big enough
- 23:53Speaker 1: audience to make that make financial sense to be quie Frank,
- 23:55Speaker 1: I'm not doing it for two or three people. Our
- 23:57Speaker 1: Patreon is not Hallmark focused because because most of our
- 24:00Speaker 1: Patreon listeners aren't here for the Hallmark content. This is
- 24:05Speaker 1: just the thing we go back and forth on. We
- 24:06Speaker 1: have a couple different niches, and we have found that
- 24:11Speaker 1: most Hallmark listeners aren't interested in paying, at least for
- 24:15Speaker 1: us for additional content. Right. There is so much Hallmark
- 24:18Speaker 1: content out there, and the Hallmark audience of listeners is
- 24:23Speaker 1: relatively small in terms of overall listenership that it's hard
- 24:29Speaker 1: to convert that into it paid listenership. Right, But if
- 24:33Speaker 1: you look at it from the angle of oh, let's
- 24:36Speaker 1: add this PBS show that may have the same audience
- 24:41Speaker 1: as a regular Hallmark viewer, that makes sense to put
- 24:46Speaker 1: that review in our feed because we are trying to
- 24:50Speaker 1: grow listenership. Yeah, oh, I don't want Hallmark, but I
- 24:54Speaker 1: listened to this. Oh I like the kind of money Crystal,
- 24:57Speaker 1: I'm gonna listen to these episodes. Oh, I like Megan
- 24:59Speaker 1: and Wendy. I'll listen to that other Hallmark stuff, right Exactly.
- 25:02Speaker 1: That's kind of the trajectory there that we're hoping for. Oh,
- 25:06Speaker 1: we're gonna review this Lifetime movie because Sarah Drew is
- 25:09Speaker 1: in it. You know, we're just trying to do related
- 25:15Speaker 1: content that might quite frankly draw on some new viewers.
- 25:18Speaker 1: Exactly listeners exactly. Oh do you want to talk about politics?
- 25:26Speaker 1: Some of our listeners said, quote, don't be political. Quote.
- 25:31Speaker 1: I prefer the show stayed focused without venturing into political territory.
- 25:35Speaker 1: It pulls me out of the escape this vibe and
- 25:38Speaker 1: finally leave Great American Family bashing behind the Patreon wall. Okay,
- 25:46Speaker 1: first of all, we don't actually talk about politics here
- 25:50Speaker 1: on this podcast. Come on over to Padren. No, we don't.
- 25:53Speaker 1: It's not even I mean, it's we talk about life.
- 25:56Speaker 1: There's a whiff of it. Yeah, yeah, but it's certainly
- 25:58Speaker 1: not a political podcast. But I'm never going to say
- 26:01Speaker 1: that we're not political, because life is political. We don't
- 26:04Speaker 1: talk about politics. We talk about yes and diversity and
- 26:09Speaker 1: celebrating when we get LGBTQ storylines and talking about cultural appropriation.
- 26:17Speaker 1: And I understand that for some things those are political,
- 26:20Speaker 1: but for us, we would not be being true to
- 26:23Speaker 1: ourselves if we ignored those elements of these movies. And
- 26:27Speaker 1: I understand that that means we are not the podcast
- 26:29Speaker 1: for everybody. Yeah, and that's okay, and that is okay.
- 26:33Speaker 1: Let's talk interviews. Okay, interviews, guys. I'm like sweating. Someone
- 26:39Speaker 1: in the Facebook group recently was like, hey, can you
- 26:41Speaker 1: interview this person? Here's our thoughts. I okay. I always
- 26:47Speaker 1: think we should interview more people. Yeah, I think that
- 26:53Speaker 1: listeners will want to hear interviews. Quite frankly, those episodes
- 26:57Speaker 1: don't do that well for us. That's not true. There
- 27:00Speaker 1: are some that don't do well. Yeah. I mean if
- 27:05Speaker 1: we had Tyler Hines on, I yes, I think that
- 27:07Speaker 1: episode would do well. But if we had a writer on, yeah,
- 27:13Speaker 1: those don't do it. A Lahas interviews always rank really well. Yeah,
- 27:18Speaker 1: the interviews are weird, Okay. I love talking to the
- 27:23Speaker 1: people that we've interviewed, writer, director, it's an actor, designer,
- 27:28Speaker 1: interested so much fun. I go into them so nervous.
- 27:32Speaker 1: I have major imposter syndrome. Every single time. It's really
- 27:35Speaker 1: an US thing. I'd love to talk to these people.
- 27:37Speaker 1: I'd love to produce more of these interviews. It's really
- 27:40Speaker 1: just a logistics thing. Honestly, it's a nerves nervous thing
- 27:44Speaker 1: for me. Sure me too. I mean, if you guys know,
- 27:46Speaker 1: Megan's so good at interviews, like she she handles all
- 27:50Speaker 1: the questions, She does all of it. Because I sit
- 27:52Speaker 1: there and like slowly melt inside. I just really I
- 27:58Speaker 1: get in my own head and I think I have
- 28:00Speaker 1: anything interesting to say in this interview, Like is there
- 28:04Speaker 1: any These actors, especially when they're promoting something, are doing
- 28:07Speaker 1: a ton of interviews. They're being asked the same questions
- 28:09Speaker 1: over and over again, and I really think, do I
- 28:11Speaker 1: have anything interesting to say? Am I contributing to this
- 28:13Speaker 1: conversation at all? Like? Is this any different from an
- 28:16Speaker 1: interview anywhere else? Sometimes yes, we have fun conversations, and
- 28:21Speaker 1: sometimes not that we don't have fun conversations. The interview
- 28:24Speaker 1: ease always show up and deliver. But yeah, we get
- 28:28Speaker 1: in our head about it. Yeah, I really get in
- 28:30Speaker 1: my head about it, you know that. Yeah, I feel
- 28:33Speaker 1: like I just sit there and observe. Well, And Hallmark
- 28:36Speaker 1: has been pushing these press junkets lately, and the feedback
- 28:40Speaker 1: on our end has not quite frankly been super positive
- 28:43Speaker 1: from the listeners, as say, notice how Megan is always
- 28:45Speaker 1: on the press junk kits. I'm not there and Wendy
- 28:47Speaker 1: won't do them. Sometimes they're like, I haven't done the
- 28:51Speaker 1: last several because scheduling. Yes, they've tried to make talent
- 28:56Speaker 1: available for those. Honestly, the feedback from the listeners they
- 28:59Speaker 1: don't love the press chunk of I get it. They're
- 29:01Speaker 1: not intimate. They're not intimate, and we would all rather
- 29:06Speaker 1: have a one on one situation as well, even with
- 29:08Speaker 1: a shorter timeframe. So that's just something that we're continuing
- 29:11Speaker 1: to work out on the back end. More interviews, less interviews.
- 29:14Speaker 1: Some people said, I'm not crazy about interviews. I'd rather
- 29:18Speaker 1: hear Mangan and Wendy with each other. And we're here
- 29:19Speaker 1: for you, and you should subscribe to our patreon. I
- 29:24Speaker 1: don't know if you're not on. If you are on
- 29:27Speaker 1: our patreon and you did not listen to this week's
- 29:29Speaker 1: approved episode, which dropped on Monday, y'all we get a
- 29:32Speaker 1: straight up fire on that episode. Something so stupid too.
- 29:40Speaker 1: I was editing, I was laughing. I was like, did
- 29:42Speaker 1: you have to like rein it in to like have
- 29:44Speaker 1: a normal conversation or were you just over it when
- 29:46Speaker 1: it was done? Were you mad through the rest of
- 29:47Speaker 1: the recording. No, I just was like, let's just move on.
- 29:54Speaker 1: I'm not going to harbor like ill feelings over something
- 29:57Speaker 1: stupid like that. Butter, can't we talk about our next comment?
- 30:04Speaker 1: Somebody had mentioned they said, Hey, I don't have money
- 30:07Speaker 1: for a monthly patron, but I'd pay for a once
- 30:09Speaker 1: a year annual meetup. Oh uh huh, And to this
- 30:13Speaker 1: I go, that is so sweet. But also, nobody's coming
- 30:16Speaker 1: to meet us. Nobody's pain. Nobody nobody's pain, and the
- 30:23Speaker 1: number of people are not paining. The issue is the
- 30:26Speaker 1: world is wide. If y'all lived, if all of our
- 30:30Speaker 1: highly engaged listeners lived within a sixty mile radius, then yes,
- 30:35Speaker 1: I think we could get a small intimate group who
- 30:38Speaker 1: would come to an event. But this is a big
- 30:40Speaker 1: leave someone to pay for a ticket and travel to
- 30:42Speaker 1: an event. Are people going to get on the plane
- 30:44Speaker 1: for us? They're just not. No, they're not. I would
- 30:46Speaker 1: love that. That's my dream of dreams is to do
- 30:50Speaker 1: a live podcast tour to multiple cities. That is my dream.
- 30:54Speaker 1: It's you guys can read the room like, that's not
- 30:59Speaker 1: happening if we're not on iHeartRadio or but we would be,
- 31:04Speaker 1: we would be. We're not an exclusive on Spotify. Like
- 31:08Speaker 1: we have a very nice listenership, yes, but yes we're
- 31:12Speaker 1: not armchair expert. Yeah, we have a highly engaged and
- 31:17Speaker 1: lovely listenership that we are very happy to have. But no,
- 31:21Speaker 1: we are not armchair expert. We're not SmartLess. We're not
- 31:23Speaker 1: going to have our own channel on Serious XM. Although, man,
- 31:26Speaker 1: would I love it if we could have a feature
- 31:29Speaker 1: on Hallmark's XM channel during the holidays. Yeah, that would
- 31:33Speaker 1: be great, but it's not happening. Okay, So you just
- 31:36Speaker 1: heard the behind the scenes of our thought process on
- 31:38Speaker 1: these survey results that came in. Once again, we truly
- 31:41Speaker 1: do appreciate everyone who took the time to fill out
- 31:44Speaker 1: the surveys, to type in your answers, to give us
- 31:46Speaker 1: your feedback. We're taking it all to heart. Some of
- 31:48Speaker 1: it we're taking to heart a little bit too much.
- 31:51Speaker 1: But ultimately, we want to make this a podcast that
- 31:53Speaker 1: we're proud of, and we want to make it a
- 31:54Speaker 1: podcast that you enjoy listening to. So hopefully you enjoyed
- 31:59Speaker 1: this rundown of the recent listener feedback, and perhaps if
- 32:03Speaker 1: this episode dropped in your feed and you're like, I
- 32:05Speaker 1: don't want to listen to that, that you just skipped
- 32:06Speaker 1: right through it. We'll be back tomorrow with more listener
- 32:09Speaker 1: feedback with our The Way Home Listener Mailbag episode. Goodbye, y'all. Bye,
- 32:27Speaker 1: all right friends, Before we go, just a quick heads up,
- 32:29Speaker 1: you're about to hear some ads. These little gems help
- 32:32Speaker 1: us keep the show running and the Hallmark love flowing.
- 32:35Speaker 1: So do with that info what you will, Grab a snack,
- 32:38Speaker 1: hit the skip button, or maybe just maybe listen in
- 32:41Speaker 1: and discover your new favorite product. Bye
