- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Should you watch Evil Dead Burn?
- 0:02SPEAKER_00: I'll grab the nearest chainsaw and cut to the chase.
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: Do I definitely recommend this movie?
- 0:09SPEAKER_00: No.
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: Do I kinda recommend the latest in the Evil Dead franchise?
- 0:15SPEAKER_00: Yes.
- 0:16SPEAKER_00: First problem with these new Evil Dead movies is the obvious one.
- 0:20SPEAKER_00: You can't have Ash.
- 0:22SPEAKER_00: Well, if you won't have Ash, then you have to do something different.
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: You couldn't ever recast Ash Williams.
- 0:29SPEAKER_00: Bruce Campbell is too beloved.
- 0:32SPEAKER_00: There would be riots.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: I think even if there was like a Bruce Campbell-approved person, I don't think it would ever be accepted.
- 0:39SPEAKER_00: So I will say these movies, starting with that first sort of remake, did the smart thing and decided to just kind of focus on just the straight-up horror elements, like the very first The Evil Dead movie back in like 1981, where it was less Ash focused and just more creepy stuff happening.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: Well, that was fine for then, but for now, with Evil Dead, Evil Dead Rise, Evil Dead Burn, like this latest one, all of these movies, the biggest problem is okay, so you're not gonna have an Ash character, that's fine, but you still have to have some type of likable character, someone we can root for.
- 1:21SPEAKER_00: And in Evil Dead Burn specifically, I really didn't like any of the people in the movie.
- 1:28SPEAKER_00: And there were some logic gaps here where there were a lot of moments in scenes where frightening stuff is happening, terrible demons and the dead being evil and all of that.
- 1:40SPEAKER_00: Well, the characters were just standing petrified, frozen in fear, which is a natural enough response, but it kind of happens a few times, and after a while, it's like realistically, if we're applying any realism to these movies, which these movies seem to be trying to do a little bit.
- 2:00SPEAKER_00: Well, I know if it were me, I'd be freaking out.
- 2:04SPEAKER_00: Fingers crossed, we will one day revisit the medieval dead concept, like with Army of Darkness, but then again, maybe it's best just to leave that alone.
- 2:14SPEAKER_00: Now, here is my most pretentious take of all time.
- 2:17SPEAKER_00: Modern horror looks too clean, and I don't know what else they're supposed to do.
- 2:23SPEAKER_00: We just live in an era where the visual and the audio quality is just going to be simply better than what it was back years ago, like in the 80s when the Evil Dead movies were first coming up.
- 2:36SPEAKER_00: And even if there's like a grungification filter or effect applied to these movies, there's something kind of false about that because, well, it's recreating something that is simply not.
- 2:48SPEAKER_00: However, I will say I would take that because it's simply more fun.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: I mean, there's a reason people do it, but I think most of that is a response to how modern horror is just too weirdly bland.
- 3:00SPEAKER_00: Evil Dead Burn was okay.
- 3:03SPEAKER_00: Can't even say I hated it, it was just kind of a there, take it or leave it kind of movie.
- 3:09SPEAKER_00: It didn't really burn anything, it was lukewarm, if anything.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: So I kinda sorta recommend it.
- 3:17SPEAKER_00: I can't say I definitely deaf wreck it, but I do have the solution to make Evil Dead burn better.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: Let me know what you think.
