- 1:36Speaker 1: What a great track to start the show. I mean,
- 1:38Speaker 1: do you remember watching the video where it kind of
- 1:41Speaker 1: started in retro style in the sixties in black and white,
- 1:44Speaker 1: and then there was like a spoof time shift and
- 1:47Speaker 1: it shifted to the eighties or the nineties and everyone
- 1:50Speaker 1: was sort of looking at it's color, what's going on?
- 1:52Speaker 1: It's in color? Then it switched back a few times.
- 1:55Speaker 1: Really great idea, but the BG's wrote that song and
- 1:58Speaker 1: if you listen closely, I'm sure you could hear them
- 2:01Speaker 1: on the vocals in the background there. So anyway, this
- 2:04Speaker 1: is Kevin Sports for It Daily and today we're joined
- 2:08Speaker 1: by Ashley Trinda who is the chair of the Folks
- 2:10Speaker 1: in the Netball League. Welcome to the show, Ashley. How
- 2:12Speaker 1: are you hi?
- 2:13Speaker 3: Good? Thank you?
- 2:14Speaker 1: Yeah, good good, Nice to see you. And I mean
- 2:18Speaker 1: we're going to talk about netbull But what I'm going
- 2:20Speaker 1: to do actually, and this is hot off the press.
- 2:23Speaker 1: I'm going to read out last night's results, ladies. So
- 2:27Speaker 1: if you're listening in now, you know the drill. We've
- 2:29Speaker 1: done this before. I've got Andrew Ashley to help me
- 2:33Speaker 1: out here because this is a little bit small, but
- 2:36Speaker 1: here we go, Here we go. This is the last
- 2:38Speaker 1: night's results now r NC folks. The forty five Girl
- 2:44Speaker 1: of the Match, whatever you'd like to call her, was Anellie.
- 2:46Speaker 1: They played Ashford Magic who scored thirty the Black Widow's
- 2:51Speaker 1: thirty one penny and the Jets forty seven Millie the
- 2:57Speaker 1: sting Ray's thirty. It looks like we've got two Ladies
- 3:02Speaker 1: of the Match, Molly and Emmy Emma for the Stingrays
- 3:06Speaker 1: and we've got Storm. They scored nineteen. Amelia was the
- 3:11Speaker 1: woman of the match there. Moving on to the Vipers
- 3:15Speaker 1: twenty eight, Phoebe Woodpeckers fifty nine, Ava Jaguars fifty two,
- 3:24Speaker 1: Nourice Tigers twenty seven, Natalie Ice, Sophie and Erin forty seven,
- 3:34Speaker 1: and Rough Diamonds forty two. Kelly, is that right, Kelly? Kelly? Yeah, right, okay,
- 3:40Speaker 1: so that is hot off the press. It's yet to
- 3:43Speaker 1: be edited and double checked, but there you go. There's
- 3:47Speaker 1: a little teaser for you. So I hope we've got
- 3:50Speaker 1: that right now. Then, Ashley, So that was last night's
- 3:53Speaker 1: it's good. What team do you play for a team?
- 3:55Speaker 4: I'm not playing at the moment because I'm injured unfortunately,
- 3:58Speaker 4: but my team are We're Packers Woodpeer Right.
- 4:00Speaker 1: How did they get on? I can't remember that.
- 4:02Speaker 3: We did win last night that I played very well.
- 4:04Speaker 3: Blessed them?
- 4:05Speaker 1: Oh good?
- 4:06Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 4:06Speaker 1: Do you go down there?
- 4:07Speaker 4: Yes, I'm still down there even though I'm not playing. Yeah, yeah,
- 4:09Speaker 4: there to support them in the league.
- 4:11Speaker 1: So right, So there you go. Lees the latest news.
- 4:14Speaker 1: You heard it first live on radio folks Now now
- 4:19Speaker 1: actually tell us a little bit about yourself. I mean
- 4:21Speaker 1: your local guild, you go to school locally. Did you
- 4:23Speaker 1: like sport when you was at school or did you
- 4:25Speaker 1: hate it?
- 4:25Speaker 4: And No, I was really keen on sporting school. I've
- 4:29Speaker 4: lived in Focusing my whole life. I went to Folks Academy.
- 4:32Speaker 3: I was really.
- 4:33Speaker 4: Lucky with the p department there and friends, and I
- 4:36Speaker 4: grew up swimming and life saving and water polos. Okay, yeah,
- 4:41Speaker 4: very sporty as a young child, definitely.
- 4:44Speaker 1: So I mean nowadays schools don't play netball? Do they?
- 4:48Speaker 3: Not so much? Unfortunately?
- 4:49Speaker 1: No. Now I know the lady called Sarah Green, she
- 4:52Speaker 1: works for the Sports Trust, and she goes around the
- 4:54Speaker 1: schools and and and sort of gives them taste a sessions.
- 4:58Speaker 1: And then I mean if they do, if girls do,
- 5:02Speaker 1: or young girls do take to the sport, where would
- 5:06Speaker 1: they go if they wanted to join a club? Is
- 5:08Speaker 1: there a youth section?
- 5:10Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 5:10Speaker 4: So we have got a loop youth team in Folks
- 5:13Speaker 4: and they're not directly connected to the Folks in Netball League,
- 5:16Speaker 4: but they are the Folks in Town Netball Club, which
- 5:20Speaker 4: is run by Rachel who you've obviously space. But they
- 5:24Speaker 4: are really struggling at the moment. In terms of spaces
- 5:26Speaker 4: because they are really busy and they're all volunteers and
- 5:29Speaker 4: there isn't many of them to help out. Yeah, so
- 5:32Speaker 4: there is a bit of a wait list for them.
- 5:34Speaker 4: But we are trying to get more coaches and people
- 5:36Speaker 4: into netball, so we are trying our best.
- 5:38Speaker 1: All right. Yeah, it's funny because it is a growing
- 5:40Speaker 1: sport now. Even since I've been sort of reporting on netball,
- 5:44Speaker 1: well a number of views really and even back in
- 5:47Speaker 1: the day, I don't know if you were involved, there
- 5:48Speaker 1: was a couple of games between between the men and
- 5:51Speaker 1: the ladies, and even now I think last year I
- 5:55Speaker 1: went down to see a game where it was like
- 5:57Speaker 1: half men and half ladies playing against each other in dressing.
- 6:02Speaker 3: Halloween.
- 6:02Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, raising money. So but you have expanded
- 6:07Speaker 1: and you've had to find other premises, I believe. So
- 6:11Speaker 1: we've got the two pitches at these three hills. So
- 6:14Speaker 1: where else did you go now? Because you've had a
- 6:15Speaker 1: change of venue, haven't you?
- 6:16Speaker 3: Just a few?
- 6:17Speaker 4: Yeah, Unfortunately we are now at the Fras and Academy.
- 6:20Speaker 4: We are at their indoor sports hall with our second
- 6:24Speaker 4: venue and one court.
- 6:25Speaker 1: Oh I sally, so they actually play indoors today. Yes, okay,
- 6:29Speaker 1: So is that like the second division, because you've got
- 6:32Speaker 1: two divisions, haven't you we have?
- 6:33Speaker 4: Yeah, we're thirteen teams split into the two divisions. We
- 6:36Speaker 4: at the moment are just equally split between indoors and outdoors.
- 6:39Speaker 1: Oh, I see.
- 6:41Speaker 4: We were intending on being outdoors as a whole, but
- 6:44Speaker 4: unfortunately we've had to react to certain circumstances. So we're
- 6:50Speaker 4: just doing the best of what we've got and then
- 6:51Speaker 4: we're looking to expand, hopefully somewhere outdoor for winter. If not,
- 6:56Speaker 4: we'll make plans and we'll figure out how to integrate
- 6:58Speaker 4: the indoor court.
- 7:00Speaker 1: Excellent, So it's nice to see that, you know, the
- 7:04Speaker 1: actual sport is growing. But the teams, excuse me, how
- 7:09Speaker 1: many teams have you got?
- 7:10Speaker 3: Thirteen?
- 7:10Speaker 4: Now?
- 7:10Speaker 1: Thirteen? So the sort of catchment area where do they do?
- 7:15Speaker 1: They all come from Folkston or because you've got this league,
- 7:17Speaker 1: they're coming in from elsewhere.
- 7:19Speaker 3: We have some people that do travel a little bit further.
- 7:22Speaker 4: Some of the girls in my team are deal Sandwich
- 7:24Speaker 4: Way and sort of Ashford, Canterbury, that sort of location.
- 7:29Speaker 4: I think a lot of the ladies are fairly local,
- 7:32Speaker 4: to be honest, So it's great we've got that many involved.
- 7:34Speaker 1: Yeah, good, and I understand it's probably sold out now,
- 7:38Speaker 1: but and it's very soon. You've got an Easter tournament,
- 7:41Speaker 1: haven't you.
- 7:41Speaker 4: Yes, we are fully fully booked out for that one.
- 7:43Speaker 4: We've got ten teams on Saturday looking to play play
- 7:47Speaker 4: some games.
- 7:48Speaker 1: Right, So what's the format of that is? Is it
- 7:51Speaker 1: just like one one game or or tell me?
- 7:54Speaker 4: Yeah, so it's going to be spread over the day.
- 7:56Speaker 4: I think games are between ten and three, so feel
- 8:00Speaker 4: free to come down and support and have a look. Definitely,
- 8:03Speaker 4: they will be playing ten minute games and they'll be
- 8:06Speaker 4: playing every team, so they'll have nine games in total
- 8:08Speaker 4: late today.
- 8:10Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, yeah, it's a big undertaking for them.
- 8:12Speaker 1: You've got to bring your lunch pack and everything. Okay,
- 8:16Speaker 1: So I mean locally. So you've got the two divisions,
- 8:22Speaker 1: so you've got an odd number. Actually you've got tell
- 8:24Speaker 1: us about that. How many of you've got in Division
- 8:26Speaker 1: one Division two if that's what you call them? Yeah?
- 8:28Speaker 4: Absolutely, So the Division one we've got our six teams,
- 8:30Speaker 4: Division two we've got seven, so we are slightly unevenly split,
- 8:34Speaker 4: but it's not a huge difference. So we try and
- 8:37Speaker 4: keep them as even as possible. There is a promotion
- 8:40Speaker 4: and relegation. Unfortunately for some teams over our summer periods
- 8:43Speaker 4: when we placed we have our winter and our summer leagues.
- 8:46Speaker 4: But yeah, they are all doing really well. It's been
- 8:49Speaker 4: a great start to the season.
- 8:50Speaker 1: Yeah, so you're into the summer league. How many weeks
- 8:52Speaker 1: you've been going in summer league?
- 8:53Speaker 3: This is our third week we've just played.
- 8:55Speaker 1: Yeah, and I'm just trying to think, have you been
- 8:59Speaker 1: blessed with the weather or does does it I mean
- 9:02Speaker 1: if it's raining, and does it take much the sort
- 9:04Speaker 1: of Postpona game because the weather not anymore.
- 9:07Speaker 4: We did struggle with our courts, but we had them
- 9:10Speaker 4: resurfaced a couple of years ago, so that has made
- 9:12Speaker 4: a huge impact in terms of us being able to play.
- 9:15Speaker 4: It drains really nicely, so there's no for water standing
- 9:19Speaker 4: on the courts to make it even slippery, you know,
- 9:21Speaker 4: more slippery, and then we've also have to just make
- 9:25Speaker 4: sure it's not icy and there's no lightning.
- 9:27Speaker 3: Obviously with the post speed yeah.
- 9:29Speaker 4: Yeah, safety hazard there, so that would be the only
- 9:31Speaker 4: reason we don't play.
- 9:33Speaker 3: But otherwise, come rain or shine, the girls are out there.
- 9:35Speaker 1: Right and are the the refurbished pitches at the Courts
- 9:41Speaker 1: rather at Three Hills. Are they kind of wearing will
- 9:44Speaker 1: it's been a couple of years now. I do remember
- 9:45Speaker 1: the project when you've got them done.
- 9:47Speaker 4: Yeah, they are lasting really well. We've been really lucky
- 9:50Speaker 4: with them. They're being maintained. So yeah it's good.
- 9:53Speaker 1: Oh good, right, I mean we we're going to have
- 9:56Speaker 1: a little bit of music now and got next. Oh yeah.
- 10:01Speaker 1: I picked this one out, especially because this gentleman he
- 10:04Speaker 1: had his birthday. I couldn't find out how old he was,
- 10:06Speaker 1: but on the thirtie of the March, Eric Clapton had
- 10:09Speaker 1: a birthday and he's still out there. I do believe
- 10:12Speaker 1: he's in a concert at Sandringham in Norfolk shortly, and
- 10:17Speaker 1: Missus Ferret wanted me to go, but I don't know.
- 10:21Speaker 1: I just didn't fancy it. I do love listening to
- 10:23Speaker 1: the live music. This is Eric Clapton and a song
- 10:26Speaker 1: that you don't hear very often. This is called Behind
- 10:28Speaker 1: the Mask. Eric Clapton there still going strong. We were
- 11:06Speaker 1: going to go to Sundering Him to see Eric, but
- 11:10Speaker 1: it just worked out it's too far away. It was
- 11:12Speaker 1: a long weekend away and I don't know. I kind of.
- 11:17Speaker 1: I don't know what you think out there, but people
- 11:19Speaker 1: like Paul McCartney, Rod Stewart, Elton John, you know, they
- 11:24Speaker 1: kind of still around on the scene. But I just
- 11:28Speaker 1: frightened that if I went to see Eric Clapton that
- 11:32Speaker 1: all my illusions would be spoilt, you know. I just
- 11:35Speaker 1: I don't want his voice to sound any different to
- 11:37Speaker 1: what it does on the song on the track there
- 11:39Speaker 1: that we just heard. So anyway, that's my opinion. Right,
- 11:42Speaker 1: So back to Netbull. So, actually, are you okay over there?
- 11:45Speaker 3: Yes? Good?
- 11:46Speaker 1: Thank you good good. Right, So we're settling in. I
- 11:48Speaker 1: can see it's going to be We've got loads to
- 11:51Speaker 1: get through. It's going to be a great morning. And
- 11:53Speaker 1: so let's talk about netball as a sport, a rising sport. Now,
- 11:58Speaker 1: I understand it's not the Olympics. Is that right?
- 12:01Speaker 3: It's not in the Olympics. It's a real shame.
- 12:03Speaker 4: We are in the Commonwealth though, so it is something
- 12:05Speaker 4: we are I think Australia are trying to put something
- 12:08Speaker 4: out there to get it in the Olympics. But it
- 12:11Speaker 4: would be great, but we'll settle for the Commonwealth for now.
- 12:14Speaker 1: So what country would you say is leading? I want
- 12:18Speaker 1: to say dominating, because I don't know how they stand it.
- 12:20Speaker 1: But what country is way ahead if any of all
- 12:25Speaker 1: the others?
- 12:26Speaker 3: Historically you probably would have said Australia.
- 12:28Speaker 4: But at the moment it is a real battle for
- 12:30Speaker 4: the top four and it is changing game by game,
- 12:33Speaker 4: you know, season by season for the international stuff between England,
- 12:37Speaker 4: Australia and New Zealand. South Africa is up there as well,
- 12:41Speaker 4: and even Jamaica are doing really well at the moment.
- 12:44Speaker 1: Yeah. Right, And I mean the a little bit of
- 12:47Speaker 1: research I did the people at the top end of
- 12:52Speaker 1: the netball if you like, they say that if netbell
- 12:56Speaker 1: did get into the Olympics, then the sport would grow
- 12:58Speaker 1: even further. Do you agree with that? Yeah?
- 13:00Speaker 3: Absolutely. The more exposure you can give a sport, the
- 13:02Speaker 3: bigger it's going to grow.
- 13:04Speaker 1: Yeah. Okay, So what about in England? I don't know personally.
- 13:10Speaker 1: Is there a premier league if you like?
- 13:13Speaker 3: Yeah, so it's called the Netball Super League.
- 13:16Speaker 4: Yeah, super League at two point oh, I think they've
- 13:18Speaker 4: called it because they've rebranded and the ladies now get
- 13:21Speaker 4: paid at that very top level, which is amazing to
- 13:25Speaker 4: becoming that more professional support sport, getting them the support.
- 13:28Speaker 3: They need within the teams and the time to train.
- 13:31Speaker 4: You know a lot of them had other jobs and
- 13:32Speaker 4: it's difficult to multitask at that level.
- 13:34Speaker 1: Yeah, and hem is it a big league? How many teams?
- 13:38Speaker 1: Does he get any coverage?
- 13:39Speaker 3: It's between eight and ten teams. I can't remember off
- 13:42Speaker 3: the top of my head, but they do get coverage.
- 13:44Speaker 4: Sky Sports and BBC Sports have done amazingly. They air
- 13:49Speaker 4: the sport, the streaming of the games on their apps Solute,
- 13:54Speaker 4: either on the BBC Sport on the red button or
- 13:57Speaker 4: through their app, and then YouTube sky Sports or on
- 14:01Speaker 4: Sky Sports normally on their mixed channel, but you can
- 14:04Speaker 4: watch it for free on BBC and right, that's just great.
- 14:07Speaker 1: That's excellent. So I mean, do you do your ladies
- 14:10Speaker 1: sort of have a chat about this super league and
- 14:13Speaker 1: you know they say, oh did you see that? Yeah?
- 14:16Speaker 3: Absolutely, Yeah.
- 14:16Speaker 4: There are a few amazing things that you see them
- 14:19Speaker 4: pull off, some trick shots or great intercepts and.
- 14:22Speaker 3: Stuff like that, so it is inspiring.
- 14:25Speaker 4: We do try and share them as much as we
- 14:26Speaker 4: can on the league's page to help inspire ladies who.
- 14:29Speaker 3: May have missed it.
- 14:30Speaker 1: And if I wanted to go and watch a super
- 14:33Speaker 1: League game, the nearest one, where would I go?
- 14:36Speaker 4: So the nearest one would probably be London Pulse. They
- 14:38Speaker 4: play up at the Copper Box up in Stratford in London, right,
- 14:42Speaker 4: so convenient for us on the train.
- 14:44Speaker 1: Yeah, well that's it's Stratford an hour and you're there,
- 14:47Speaker 1: aren't you?
- 14:47Speaker 3: Absopletely?
- 14:48Speaker 2: Yeah?
- 14:48Speaker 1: Brilliant? What else have we got? So we spoke about
- 14:52Speaker 1: the youngsters? And now for those of you like myself
- 14:56Speaker 1: that I don't know much about netball, a team.
- 15:01Speaker 3: So seven on the court at one time.
- 15:03Speaker 1: Seven on a quarter one time. So how many teams?
- 15:05Speaker 1: How many can you have?
- 15:07Speaker 3: You can have up.
- 15:08Speaker 4: To fourteen registered in the focused in league per team,
- 15:11Speaker 4: so you could have fourteen people turn up, but that
- 15:14Speaker 4: would be a lot.
- 15:15Speaker 3: Normally you just get one or two subs on the
- 15:17Speaker 3: side ready to rotate and take their turn.
- 15:19Speaker 1: Is it rolling subs? If someone comes off, can they
- 15:21Speaker 1: go back on again?
- 15:22Speaker 3: Yes? You can call time and you can just rotate
- 15:25Speaker 3: and change positions.
- 15:27Speaker 1: Right, And I've noticed when watching the local netball down
- 15:32Speaker 1: there that the scoring can be really quick.
- 15:35Speaker 3: Yes.
- 15:35Speaker 1: So have you got to have a dedicated scorer as well? Yeah?
- 15:39Speaker 4: Absolutely, so we have two umpires per game they split
- 15:41Speaker 4: the courts in half between them, and then there are.
- 15:43Speaker 3: Two scorers as well, two scorers, two scorers.
- 15:45Speaker 1: Yeah, right, so I could imagine I mean watching Look,
- 15:49Speaker 1: I remember watching one game down there and I thought,
- 15:52Speaker 1: I wonder if the players really know the scorer and
- 15:55Speaker 1: do they have to shout it out?
- 15:56Speaker 4: Yes, after every goal has been scored, they shout it
- 15:59Speaker 4: out so that everyone can and be aware of what
- 16:01Speaker 4: the score is. I mean, if you've got a high
- 16:02Speaker 4: scoring game, it's a goal being scored every minute. Yeah, potentially,
- 16:06Speaker 4: if not more so. It is quick, it is fast paced.
- 16:09Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 16:10Speaker 3: Don't you think you can't run with the ball so
- 16:12Speaker 3: it's slow? Absolutely not?
- 16:16Speaker 1: All right, so it's and I mean the age. They're
- 16:21Speaker 1: not the lastest one, but what's the age, you know,
- 16:24Speaker 1: the attraction the lowest to highest players? You think highest.
- 16:29Speaker 4: I don't know what our oldest players are, but we
- 16:31Speaker 4: do have the lowest accept into the league is fourteen.
- 16:35Speaker 4: So we do have some younger teams that have come
- 16:37Speaker 4: up through the Flakes and town NETBWL club.
- 16:39Speaker 3: They have joined us and are doing really well.
- 16:42Speaker 1: Oh yeah, that's good.
- 16:44Speaker 4: And a few of the teams that do the more
- 16:45Speaker 4: social back to net all teams that there are on
- 16:48Speaker 4: different nights to us.
- 16:49Speaker 3: They've joined us as well, so it's great they're coming
- 16:52Speaker 3: from us.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Oh, it's good. I mean that that is really good
- 16:54Speaker 1: because this second division law tracks sort of like the
- 16:57Speaker 1: development type of player that might want to want to
- 16:59Speaker 1: get to the game and might get transferred to a
- 17:02Speaker 1: better teammates, or they'll.
- 17:04Speaker 4: Build up and they'll go up as a team. Yeah, yeah, absolutely,
- 17:06Speaker 4: it's great.
- 17:07Speaker 1: Good good. Okay, So time for reading the music now,
- 17:10Speaker 1: and this is from you'll recognize this one from ninety five.
- 17:13Speaker 1: This is the Ren Branson I'll be there for you.
- 17:26Speaker 1: Still there you go. You recognize that. And I must
- 17:36Speaker 1: be honest, I only ever used to watch the the
- 17:39Speaker 1: opening tune and then switch over wasn't the Friends lover myself,
- 17:43Speaker 1: but it had a great, great following. So who am
- 17:46Speaker 1: I to to the knock it? Right? So we're back
- 17:49Speaker 1: in the studio with Ashley and now, Ashley, you've got
- 17:52Speaker 1: a tournament coming up at the weekend. But it's not
- 17:55Speaker 1: just a tournament. It's a bit of a fundraiser as well,
- 17:57Speaker 1: is that right?
- 17:58Speaker 4: Yeah, We're just going to do a little bit of
- 17:59Speaker 4: fun raising. It's for the netball development Trust just to
- 18:03Speaker 4: try and help them out.
- 18:04Speaker 1: Okay, So Netbull Development Trust, what does that entail? Does
- 18:09Speaker 1: that they most obviously put the word out further about netball.
- 18:13Speaker 4: Yeah, so it helps countries in Africa. They are in
- 18:17Speaker 4: five different ones are in Uganda, Kenya, India, Pakistan and Ghana.
- 18:22Speaker 4: So they're there to educate and create opportunities to help
- 18:26Speaker 4: the wider community place netball.
- 18:29Speaker 1: So is this a major project throughout the country that
- 18:33Speaker 1: you're just doing this as a one off? I mean,
- 18:35Speaker 1: but those are other fundraising things that are foundling into
- 18:38Speaker 1: the trust. Yeah.
- 18:39Speaker 3: Absolutely, they do their own fundraising.
- 18:41Speaker 4: It's something that we found when we were looking to
- 18:44Speaker 4: use the tournament to try and help someone. One of
- 18:47Speaker 4: our members actually found the Netball Development Trust and sent
- 18:50Speaker 4: it to us and said this might be a good
- 18:52Speaker 4: a good fundraiser charity to do it for. And they
- 18:56Speaker 4: do some amazing work. They've got, you know, lots of
- 18:59Speaker 4: kit and things like that ready to go over to
- 19:02Speaker 4: those countries to help them get started.
- 19:04Speaker 1: So I just assume this is for the for the
- 19:08Speaker 1: children at school or just genuinely netbile anywhere.
- 19:11Speaker 3: It's for those countries specifically.
- 19:13Speaker 4: It gives them somewhere to go to you know, relaxed,
- 19:17Speaker 4: to play, to build teams and relationships with their friends
- 19:21Speaker 4: and just have an outlet.
- 19:23Speaker 1: You're right, you know, because sometimes you know, you might
- 19:25Speaker 1: take just three heels for granted, and it's on our
- 19:29Speaker 1: doorstep and the ladies can play every Wednesday. But sometimes
- 19:36Speaker 1: I don't think about these underdeveloped countries, do you that are
- 19:40Speaker 1: desperate to do you know, use up energy and have
- 19:43Speaker 1: a sort of structure to their life. So this is
- 19:46Speaker 1: a really good, really good opportunity to and I know
- 19:50Speaker 1: you've only just told me about this, but if you
- 19:52Speaker 1: had any feedback of what they are achieving over there.
- 19:57Speaker 3: So they are.
- 19:57Speaker 4: One of the things they have is they have set
- 19:59Speaker 4: tile that they would like to achieve, so you know,
- 20:02Speaker 4: certain figures get certain things, as we see for lots
- 20:04Speaker 4: of different charities. One of the figures they've got is
- 20:08Speaker 4: seven hundred and fifty pounds which gives their volunteers time
- 20:11Speaker 4: to run a two week program in Kenya or Uganda
- 20:15Speaker 4: for six hundred children covering teenage pregnancy, education and all
- 20:20Speaker 4: their netball coaching. So it's not just netball, it is
- 20:22Speaker 4: about educating them, helping them out generally as well.
- 20:26Speaker 1: And that money It might seem a lot of money,
- 20:29Speaker 1: but seven hundred and fifty pound for a two week
- 20:31Speaker 1: holiday program for six hundred children. That really goes a
- 20:34Speaker 1: long way, doesn't it does? Yeah, brilliant. Yeah, and it's
- 20:38Speaker 1: nice that it's not just netball. It's a bit about
- 20:41Speaker 1: social skills, I suppose growing up the you know the
- 20:44Speaker 1: implications of teenage pregnancy. So it's a bit more than
- 20:48Speaker 1: just just the sending over kit, isn't it. They are
- 20:51Speaker 1: educating the children as will great. Excellent, So the tournament.
- 20:56Speaker 1: Have you looked at the weather for Saturday?
- 20:58Speaker 4: We are dry, it's not particularly warm, but we are
- 21:01Speaker 4: right perfect. The ladies playing wouldn't want it too hot anyway.
- 21:06Speaker 1: No, I think I think it was last year. I
- 21:07Speaker 1: went down there actually, and I've seen them all. I
- 21:09Speaker 1: think it was a bit like this, really a bit chilly,
- 21:12Speaker 1: but they were all huddled in with their picnics and
- 21:15Speaker 1: the hampers. Yeah, no, it was a really good fun day. Okay,
- 21:21Speaker 1: so what we're going to do now? We can switch sports.
- 21:24Speaker 1: Because it wasn't until you walk through the door that
- 21:27Speaker 1: I found out that you are a coach at Folks
- 21:30Speaker 1: and Rugby Club. Is that right?
- 21:31Speaker 3: Yes? I managed the Folks and Ladies rugby.
- 21:34Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, tee what this is a great coupe. We
- 21:37Speaker 1: could do two hours today, I'm sure of it. But
- 21:40Speaker 1: so they got promotion last year, is that right? Yes,
- 21:45Speaker 1: yes they did, and they're riding high at at the moment.
- 21:50Speaker 1: So we're about so are they in the league.
- 21:52Speaker 4: So we are second in the league at the moment,
- 21:56Speaker 4: we are again behind the team that are first. So
- 21:59Speaker 4: there are every stability that we could even go ahead
- 22:01Speaker 4: and win this.
- 22:02Speaker 3: Season, is it?
- 22:03Speaker 1: Yeah, there's the team at top of you. They've they've
- 22:05Speaker 1: finished their games, have a name.
- 22:06Speaker 3: Yes, they're all done for the season now.
- 22:08Speaker 1: Right, So how many you're I just have a look
- 22:10Speaker 1: at the list. You're four points short? Yes, so how
- 22:14Speaker 1: many points do you get for a win?
- 22:15Speaker 4: So you get four points for a win, and you
- 22:17Speaker 4: can get an extra point for scoring four or more
- 22:20Speaker 4: tries in a game or potentially five.
- 22:23Speaker 1: Right, so you could if you get a big scorer. Yes,
- 22:26Speaker 1: And the last game who's that against?
- 22:29Speaker 3: Our last game is against Beckenham.
- 22:31Speaker 1: Beckham and Beckenham are currently second from bottom. I mean
- 22:35Speaker 1: I've said this on the program before that it's a
- 22:37Speaker 1: small league. But you know it's a small sort of
- 22:42Speaker 1: catchment area, so you don't play every week. We sometimes
- 22:47Speaker 1: might be a bit of a struggle. If you're on
- 22:49Speaker 1: a sort of a winning you just want to go
- 22:51Speaker 1: out and play again the following and you haven't got
- 22:53Speaker 1: a game.
- 22:53Speaker 4: Yeah, absolutely, although I think because it is such a
- 22:56Speaker 4: full on sport, you know, with the contact and everything,
- 22:58Speaker 4: I think sometimes.
- 22:59Speaker 3: It's not it's a little break keeperat and recover.
- 23:03Speaker 1: Yeah right, And I mean it's great that the ladies
- 23:07Speaker 1: are possibly going for a second promotion, and so you've
- 23:13Speaker 1: got seven Oaks. You always have good games against seven Oaks,
- 23:17Speaker 1: don't you. Yeah.
- 23:18Speaker 4: At the top, it's always tied between us. They came
- 23:20Speaker 4: up with us last season from the league below.
- 23:23Speaker 1: So yeah, now I'm looking at the team that's in
- 23:26Speaker 1: third place at Lords would now you played them last Sunday? Yes,
- 23:31Speaker 1: And I looked at the result and it's a low scoring,
- 23:34Speaker 1: very close game, wasn't it. So was it nip and
- 23:37Speaker 1: tuck all the way or.
- 23:39Speaker 3: They were ahead the whole game?
- 23:40Speaker 4: Unfortunately, so we did have to come up from behind,
- 23:43Speaker 4: but we gave it our very best and unfortunately it
- 23:46Speaker 4: just wasn't meant to be on that Sunday.
- 23:48Speaker 3: But it was it was a close fault game.
- 23:50Speaker 1: What a difference that would have made, you know, it
- 23:52Speaker 1: would have been that would have given you forty six,
- 23:56Speaker 1: would have given you fifty points.
- 23:57Speaker 3: Then it would have taken the pressure off of the
- 23:59Speaker 3: last game.
- 24:00Speaker 4: Yeah, we've got to do deal with what we've we've gotten.
- 24:02Speaker 1: It's in your hands. Yeah, yeah, it's.
- 24:04Speaker 3: Up to the ladies out there on our last game
- 24:06Speaker 3: on that Sunday.
- 24:07Speaker 1: So what better lords with themselves they have They've only
- 24:11Speaker 1: played ten, haven't they. Yes, could they catch you?
- 24:15Speaker 3: They could? Absolutely?
- 24:16Speaker 4: They will have to win their games as well, So
- 24:19Speaker 4: pressures on them as as well as it is us.
- 24:21Speaker 1: Well, what an exciting climax of the season. Considering there's
- 24:24Speaker 1: only seven it's not. It's not like there's one team
- 24:27Speaker 1: that's streaking away ahead and sort of dominating the league.
- 24:31Speaker 1: So in that, in that aspect, i'd say every week
- 24:37Speaker 1: is a tough game, isn't it.
- 24:38Speaker 3: Yeahs No, not at all.
- 24:40Speaker 4: It's always a hard game with the lady's got to
- 24:43Speaker 4: go out there, make sure they're putting their their best
- 24:45Speaker 4: best base forward and do what they can.
- 24:47Speaker 1: All right now, ladies rugby, First of all, basic question,
- 24:53Speaker 1: is it fifteen a side? Yes?
- 24:55Speaker 4: It is right, okay, the same as the men's pretty
- 24:57Speaker 4: much time. WHI rule rise that they do exactly.
- 25:02Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 25:02Speaker 1: Yeah, and Emily and the squad, have you got a
- 25:05Speaker 1: big squad?
- 25:06Speaker 4: Yeah. So we've come a long way from you know,
- 25:08Speaker 4: two three seasons ago where we were struggling to get
- 25:10Speaker 4: a team, to last season getting promoted, and then this
- 25:14Speaker 4: season we've regularly got a team of about twenty ladies available.
- 25:19Speaker 3: We've got a few.
- 25:20Speaker 4: Out injured at the moment, so come next season hopefully
- 25:22Speaker 4: they'll be back. So yeah, we were pushing twenty five,
- 25:27Speaker 4: if not maybe even thirty. So yeah, the dream is
- 25:30Speaker 4: to get two teams.
- 25:31Speaker 1: Oh well yeah, it makes you wonder, doesn't it. It's
- 25:35Speaker 1: it's like everything else, it's great while it's going well.
- 25:39Speaker 1: I mean, folks in rugby club, the men's they had
- 25:41Speaker 1: three teams for years. Then I noticed the reserves are
- 25:44Speaker 1: the third team, were getting home walk over, you know, yeah,
- 25:48Speaker 1: and they can now they just settled on the two teams.
- 25:51Speaker 1: So it is a big ass because I mean, generally
- 25:55Speaker 1: your players I expect, you know, they could stay of
- 25:58Speaker 1: a good season, then they're off to university or jobs
- 26:01Speaker 1: or pregnancy or you know. But yeah, why not go
- 26:05Speaker 1: for it. Yeah. Now, we were chatting off here and
- 26:10Speaker 1: you surprised me actually because we were talking about the
- 26:12Speaker 1: most famous female rugby player as ever played for Folks
- 26:16Speaker 1: and Catherine Spencer, yes, former captain of England. And but
- 26:21Speaker 1: you did tell me that she's she's been playing for
- 26:24Speaker 1: you now and then she has.
- 26:25Speaker 3: Yeah, she's done a couple of games with us. We've
- 26:27Speaker 3: been really lucky.
- 26:28Speaker 4: It's great to have her on on the pitch with
- 26:30Speaker 4: the lady supporting them. We had a girls day at
- 26:34Speaker 4: the club for a game the other week. She came
- 26:37Speaker 4: along spoke to some of our young players in the
- 26:40Speaker 4: junior teams and then stayed and supported the ladies for
- 26:43Speaker 4: the match, which was lovely.
- 26:44Speaker 1: Right. Yeah, and she obviously still stays fit and keeps
- 26:49Speaker 1: her hand in.
- 26:50Speaker 3: Oh yes, most definitely.
- 26:51Speaker 2: Ye.
- 26:52Speaker 1: What does the oppositions think when when a former captain
- 26:56Speaker 1: of England is up against them?
- 26:57Speaker 3: It must be tough, most definitely.
- 27:00Speaker 1: Yeah. When the experience she had in World Cups and
- 27:03Speaker 1: unfortunately I don't think she ever won a World Cup.
- 27:05Speaker 1: It was she was so close. But yeah, it's it's amazing.
- 27:10Speaker 1: It's just like like on a Sunday morning football going
- 27:13Speaker 1: out against the captain of England.
- 27:15Speaker 4: You know, yeah, it's great she bring that experience onto
- 27:18Speaker 4: the team and really supports the lady.
- 27:20Speaker 1: Yeah, and I bet, I bet the rest of the
- 27:22Speaker 1: players do lift their gamell Catherine's yeah, yeah, they don't
- 27:25Speaker 1: want to get a rollick in a half time. No,
- 27:29Speaker 1: that is amazing, that's a great story. You've you've got
- 27:33Speaker 1: this one game left and what is the next step?
- 27:38Speaker 1: Do you know? Not yourself, but perhaps from experience, is
- 27:41Speaker 1: the next level up? Is that a big ask or
- 27:44Speaker 1: is it about the same.
- 27:45Speaker 3: It will be a jump most definitely.
- 27:47Speaker 4: But seeing how we've reacted to coming up this season
- 27:50Speaker 4: us as a as a staff with the ladies, we
- 27:53Speaker 4: fully believe in the girls.
- 27:55Speaker 1: You can do it. Yeah.
- 27:55Speaker 4: Absolutely, It'll be tough. We're not going to win every game.
- 27:58Speaker 4: We've not won every game this season. But that's what
- 28:01Speaker 4: makes sport interesting, you know, it's not it's not fun
- 28:03Speaker 4: when you win in.
- 28:04Speaker 1: Every week this table and following the results as I've
- 28:09Speaker 1: done for the last two years at least, it's always
- 28:12Speaker 1: been nip and tuck and there's no one ever run
- 28:15Speaker 1: away with the league. So you think your girls could
- 28:21Speaker 1: cope if they jump up a leap.
- 28:22Speaker 4: Yeah, I think we'd get there most definitely. It would
- 28:25Speaker 4: be tough, but the girls have risen to the occasion
- 28:28Speaker 4: this season, so I've.
- 28:29Speaker 1: Got Are there any any sort of cup games where
- 28:32Speaker 1: you or even friendlies where you've actually had to play
- 28:34Speaker 1: higher opposition.
- 28:36Speaker 4: No, we didn't do any friendlies this season. It's really
- 28:38Speaker 4: difficult with the pitches. Obviously over the summer the ground
- 28:41Speaker 4: gets harder. No one likes being tackled at the best
- 28:44Speaker 4: of time, so then to land on a on a
- 28:46Speaker 4: hard MUDs floor, it's not not the most enjoyable thing.
- 28:50Speaker 1: No, But I mean, we haven't got time to talk
- 28:52Speaker 1: about it now, but there is so much going on.
- 28:55Speaker 1: I've just noticed, and there has been traditionally in the
- 28:58Speaker 1: youth section, you know, they take them up to Harley
- 29:02Speaker 1: Quin's or the equivalent and they play little games at
- 29:05Speaker 1: halftime in front of thirty thousand people. I mean, yeah,
- 29:08Speaker 1: what is that like?
- 29:08Speaker 4: You know, it must be amazing for these children to
- 29:11Speaker 4: get that experience. Absolutely, it's incredible to play on those pitches.
- 29:14Speaker 1: Yeah. In fact, it's just reminded me there was quite
- 29:17Speaker 1: a few years ago I had the leaf Itchy and
- 29:21Speaker 1: Martin Murray in here and he brought three youngsters in
- 29:24Speaker 1: and I said to him, what's the biggest sort of
- 29:30Speaker 1: pitch you've ever played on, you know with people watching you,
- 29:32Speaker 1: thinking they might say sort of makestone or something like that,
- 29:35Speaker 1: And it turned out that that weekend they'd been up
- 29:38Speaker 1: to Harley Quins or someone who played in front of
- 29:41Speaker 1: twenty one thousand. Oh. I was absolutely really surprised. There
- 29:44Speaker 1: really was. Yeah. Yeah, So there's loads of youth support
- 29:49Speaker 1: down there, and I've had all the smiff in before
- 29:54Speaker 1: and he's told me all about the youth section and
- 29:56Speaker 1: it's just a great outlet for the kids. It really
- 29:59Speaker 1: is just to see them burning off the energy. Okay,
- 30:01Speaker 1: so we've done a bit of talking now, so let's
- 30:03Speaker 1: have another song. I think, well, this is one of
- 30:05Speaker 1: my favorites. This is from nineteen seventy four. This is
- 30:08Speaker 1: Ace and how Long? Nineteen seventy four? Ace? Hell Long?
- 30:36Speaker 1: Could admit one of my favorite tracks? Right? Well, do
- 30:39Speaker 1: you know what? We haven't had a chance to speak
- 30:40Speaker 1: about any other sport because this morning has been so
- 30:43Speaker 1: interesting speaking to Ashley. But I've got it's like forty
- 30:46Speaker 1: five seconds of rugby, local rugby, which I do want
- 30:50Speaker 1: to get in and so I just do my report
- 30:54Speaker 1: and now folks in first fifteen had a dominant victory
- 30:57Speaker 1: last Saturday, beat in Maidstone First fifteen by sixty four
- 31:00Speaker 1: points to seven and the Seconds made it a double
- 31:03Speaker 1: over Madstone Seconds, winning forty seven seventeen. The Ladies team,
- 31:08Speaker 1: as we said earlier, unfortunately lost a very close game
- 31:10Speaker 1: to Lord's with by ten points to seven, but they
- 31:13Speaker 1: still remain in second place and it's up to them
- 31:16Speaker 1: now to get those points and win that league. So
- 31:21Speaker 1: fix just coming up sees the first fifteen away to
- 31:23Speaker 1: Old Alanians which means a trip to Dullage, and the
- 31:26Speaker 1: Seconds are at home to Leave Rugby Club, who come
- 31:28Speaker 1: from Chiddingstone near Tunbridge. Both these games will be played
- 31:32Speaker 1: on Saturday, April eleventh, and the Ladies' final game is
- 31:35Speaker 1: not until Sunday the twenty sixth of April, when they're
- 31:38Speaker 1: welcome Beckenham Ladies to the Burlington Field. Now, twenty sixth
- 31:43Speaker 1: of April, that is a day that immediately I think,
- 31:46Speaker 1: do you know what's something going on that day? But
- 31:48Speaker 1: it is of course the same day as the London Marathon,
- 31:50Speaker 1: and I will be going up to watch the London Marathon,
- 31:52Speaker 1: and I will be keeping informed about a London Marathon
- 31:55Speaker 1: special show that I've got coming up, and the boxes
- 31:59Speaker 1: that have got to be ticked. I've got one, two, three,
- 32:01Speaker 1: four people that I've found that have ticked the boxes,
- 32:05Speaker 1: never ever run a marathon before their first marathon is London,
- 32:10Speaker 1: and they're running for a charity. So we're going to
- 32:12Speaker 1: have two hour special on the Thursday before the marathon
- 32:16Speaker 1: and so have a tune in and I will record
- 32:19Speaker 1: it and put it out as a podcast because these
- 32:22Speaker 1: people are virgin London marathoners and I really want to
- 32:27Speaker 1: hear their stories of are they looking forward to it?
- 32:30Speaker 1: Are they dreading it? And yes, it's going to be
- 32:33Speaker 1: such a great couple of hours. But coming back to you, Ashley,
- 32:36Speaker 1: I understand a member of your family is running the marathon.
- 32:39Speaker 3: Yeah, my mum is running it for the second time.
- 32:42Speaker 1: Is she now? Yes? Now, I've seen your mum at
- 32:46Speaker 1: races and I know your mom from a distance if
- 32:50Speaker 1: you like, But I know she's part of a team
- 32:53Speaker 1: of hockey players called the Scrambled Legs.
- 32:55Speaker 3: Yes, and a bunch of crazy friends.
- 32:57Speaker 1: There are a bunch of crazy friends that all these
- 32:59Speaker 1: crazy as it was then mountains and walking up hills
- 33:04Speaker 1: and all sorts of strange things. And they've been a
- 33:07Speaker 1: bit quiet actually just slately. They haven't had a challenge.
- 33:10Speaker 1: But so your mum's going up. Is your mum doing
- 33:13Speaker 1: this for charity?
- 33:14Speaker 4: Not this time? No, first time she did charity. This
- 33:16Speaker 4: time she's one of the lucky people that got a
- 33:19Speaker 4: ballot place.
- 33:19Speaker 1: Got a ballot place. Yeah, that is so rare, it
- 33:22Speaker 1: really is. And you know what, I was coming out
- 33:25Speaker 1: this morning and I saw your mum running. Actually, yeah,
- 33:28Speaker 1: so she's taking it seriously. So have you been up
- 33:33Speaker 1: to London Marathon.
- 33:34Speaker 3: Yeah, I went up to the first one with her.
- 33:36Speaker 4: It was a very intense day as a spectator, lots
- 33:40Speaker 4: and lots of walking, but we were lucky and got
- 33:42Speaker 4: to see her a couple of.
- 33:43Speaker 3: Times around the course. Yeah, lucky.
- 33:45Speaker 1: Indeed, where did you go on the course?
- 33:48Speaker 3: We tried.
- 33:49Speaker 4: We had a plan that that backfired because we couldn't
- 33:52Speaker 4: get across the river so we had to scramble. I'm
- 33:56Speaker 4: not entirely sure what were Yeah, we just got lucky
- 33:59Speaker 4: and yeah, as best we could do.
- 34:01Speaker 3: Yeah, yeah, what's as quick as we could?
- 34:03Speaker 1: You do need a plan actually, because I've said this
- 34:07Speaker 1: several times on air. But what we do. We go
- 34:10Speaker 1: to the cutty sock. Yeah, and we try and get
- 34:13Speaker 1: to the very front row of the cutty sock and
- 34:15Speaker 1: there's only runners on one side because you've got the
- 34:17Speaker 1: boat on the other side. So we tell the runners
- 34:19Speaker 1: to come around on the right hand side and then
- 34:22Speaker 1: you can just give them a quick high five. Yeah,
- 34:24Speaker 1: and it's about six miles. Everyone is absolutely buzzing, you know,
- 34:28Speaker 1: it's like they're floating around. It's great. So then we
- 34:31Speaker 1: go under the tunnel. There's a tunnel which brings you
- 34:33Speaker 1: out to about sixteen seventeen mile point.
- 34:36Speaker 3: Yes, I think that's where we got stuck. Classes. Did
- 34:38Speaker 3: you get across.
- 34:39Speaker 1: Oh yeah, well, I mean they have sort of marshals
- 34:41Speaker 1: on there, letting so many people across that. Yeah, it
- 34:44Speaker 1: is so congested. If you've never been to the London Marathon,
- 34:48Speaker 1: don't expect an easy ride getting across the road. Even
- 34:51Speaker 1: you could see a toilet across the road and you're
- 34:53Speaker 1: busting to go, but you can't get across it. Twenty
- 34:56Speaker 1: six point two miles is barriered off, I tell you.
- 35:00Speaker 2: So.
- 35:00Speaker 1: Then we went to the seventeen mile point and that's
- 35:03Speaker 1: when the runners were just starting to the tiredness was
- 35:06Speaker 1: just about to sit in and they did need to
- 35:09Speaker 1: see a member of family. So and then if you
- 35:13Speaker 1: want to try and get on the embankment, forget it.
- 35:15Speaker 1: You've really got absolutely no chance unless there's a big
- 35:19Speaker 1: crowd waiting for their runner to go through. The runner
- 35:21Speaker 1: goes through and they all disappear at the same time,
- 35:24Speaker 1: and then you can get in quick. So okay. So yeah,
- 35:29Speaker 1: so you're never taken up running yourself.
- 35:31Speaker 3: Not for me. I just can't get behind it. I'm
- 35:34Speaker 3: more for a team sport.
- 35:35Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, well I know I've seen your mum a
- 35:38Speaker 1: Rona and name is by the way, Rona Fry. Good morning, Rona,
- 35:41Speaker 1: Good after, Rona. And just to let you know we
- 35:44Speaker 1: did see you running this morning and we'll be looking
- 35:47Speaker 1: out for you at London at the Cutty Sark. So
- 35:52Speaker 1: your mum's a hockey player as well, isn't it. There's
- 35:54Speaker 1: a very sporty family.
- 35:56Speaker 3: Very sporty family. Yeah, we will do a little bit.
- 35:58Speaker 1: Yeah, what about your day?
- 36:00Speaker 4: Dad used to play wah polo, used to swim, not
- 36:03Speaker 4: as much anymore, busy at work unfortunately.
- 36:05Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, does he do the part run?
- 36:07Speaker 3: He does? Yeah, he is out running. He does that.
- 36:10Speaker 4: He's with mum out regularly at the weekend, silly o'clock
- 36:14Speaker 4: in the morning, out for runs.
- 36:15Speaker 2: Ye know.
- 36:16Speaker 1: To be honest again, I get to know I know
- 36:19Speaker 1: thousands of thousands of runners from a distance, but I
- 36:24Speaker 1: haven't spoken to many. But I think I know your dad. Yeah.
- 36:27Speaker 1: So well, great, great sporty day. So April to twenty sixth, Yeah,
- 36:32Speaker 1: London Marathon, So don't forget. I'll be telling you about
- 36:35Speaker 1: the two hour marathon special coming up and it's going
- 36:40Speaker 1: to be great and I love This is the favorite
- 36:42Speaker 1: time of my radio year, London Marathon time. Okay, so
- 36:47Speaker 1: it's nearly time to go. I've done holdly any sport.
- 36:51Speaker 1: I'm going to have to do a two hour show
- 36:52Speaker 1: on Saturday now to make up. But let's get back
- 36:55Speaker 1: to the to the reason initially, while you've were asked,
- 37:00Speaker 1: been here, uh And I'm so glad the way the
- 37:02Speaker 1: programmers blossomed. We started with the with the netball, and
- 37:06Speaker 1: then we went on to the rugby, and now we're
- 37:07Speaker 1: talking about the London Marathon. So taking it back to netball, right,
- 37:11Speaker 1: let's get back to a few basics. So you've got
- 37:13Speaker 1: these seven teams but I always ever chuckle about this.
- 37:18Speaker 1: But you've got a thing called a floater, haven't you.
- 37:21Speaker 4: Yes, So we've got a floaters list.
- 37:24Speaker 1: Someone should have changed the name of that. I always
- 37:26Speaker 1: say this, and it made Angie laugh and it made
- 37:28Speaker 1: Rachel laughter. So I just think of something bobbing up
- 37:31Speaker 1: and down in the Harby. Yeah.
- 37:32Speaker 4: Absolutely, I've had to explain it a few times.
- 37:35Speaker 3: Sorry.
- 37:36Speaker 1: Right, So a floater someone that can't commit the selves
- 37:39Speaker 1: to a side, is that right? Tell us about So?
- 37:41Speaker 3: Yeah, we do have our floaters list.
- 37:43Speaker 4: So these are extra players who either can't commit every
- 37:47Speaker 4: week there just isn't a space on a team for them,
- 37:49Speaker 4: but they still want to be playing netball, so they're
- 37:52Speaker 4: called upon when teams are short.
- 37:54Speaker 3: So we were short last night.
- 37:55Speaker 4: We only had six players available, so we had a
- 37:58Speaker 4: lovely lady called who came in helped us out. Who
- 38:01Speaker 4: is part of our floatest list in folks.
- 38:03Speaker 1: Right, So it does work, doesn't it? Absolutely? Yeah?
- 38:06Speaker 3: Yeah, it's great. It's really helpful.
- 38:08Speaker 1: Okay, So is there any any people that you want
- 38:11Speaker 1: to say amongst the three sports we've been talking about,
- 38:14Speaker 1: any hellos or any well done or thank you?
- 38:17Speaker 4: I think just thanking our umpires in focused in and
- 38:21Speaker 4: our committee members. You know, we did you your best
- 38:23Speaker 4: and thank them for turning out every week for our umpires,
- 38:26Speaker 4: come rain or shine. They they're essential for the sport.
- 38:30Speaker 4: And then yeah, I suppose mum for doing the London Marathon.
- 38:33Speaker 1: Yeah, well, good luck to you, Rona, and we want
- 38:37Speaker 1: to see more action when you get back from the
- 38:38Speaker 1: scrambled legs. And I mean, I know she's a great
- 38:42Speaker 1: friend of Katrina. Katrina and yeah, Katrina. One weekend she
- 38:48Speaker 1: did the park runs. You played hockey in the afternoon
- 38:51Speaker 1: and then I was comparing the folkus in ten and
- 38:54Speaker 1: she was running there. She was really really getting into
- 38:57Speaker 1: her running.
- 38:57Speaker 3: Yeah, definitely.
- 38:58Speaker 4: I think they've got some kind of walking challenge that
- 39:01Speaker 4: they're doing after the marathon.
- 39:02Speaker 3: I think there's something in the works.
- 39:04Speaker 1: Good. We're going to track and track them all down
- 39:06Speaker 1: and see if we can get all of them in
- 39:07Speaker 1: the studio. The last time I did I did it.
- 39:09Speaker 1: We couldn't get all of them. I think your mum
- 39:11Speaker 1: was missing. Actually we did an interview up the three
- 39:15Speaker 1: Heel Sports Park and that was good fun. Right, so
- 39:21Speaker 1: right back to the basics of netball. So people, it
- 39:26Speaker 1: sounds like the Netball League is pretty well established now.
- 39:30Speaker 1: But if anybody wants to be a floater, or if
- 39:32Speaker 1: anybody wants to find out about you know what times
- 39:37Speaker 1: they are? I mean because you have two games of
- 39:39Speaker 1: a Wednesday, don't you?
- 39:40Speaker 3: Yes, yeah, we.
- 39:41Speaker 4: Split over two games, one at six forty five and
- 39:44Speaker 4: then one at eight.
- 39:46Speaker 1: Right, So how can people get in touch with you
- 39:47Speaker 1: and find out I just asked you the questions.
- 39:50Speaker 3: Best place would be on our social media.
- 39:52Speaker 4: So that's either on Facebook or Instagram, and it's just
- 39:54Speaker 4: freaks in Netball League, nice and simple.
- 39:56Speaker 1: There we go. Nothing to it right, Well, actually, really
- 40:00Speaker 1: the hour up already and it's been We could have
- 40:02Speaker 1: done another hour. I'm absolutely certain of this, and so
- 40:06Speaker 1: I just want to say a big thank you for
- 40:08Speaker 1: coming in hold your tournament. Just remind us when the
- 40:11Speaker 1: tournament is. If people want to come up and watch.
- 40:13Speaker 4: Yes, so we are sassay the fourth of April at
- 40:15Speaker 4: Three Hills Sports Park.
- 40:17Speaker 3: And games will be from ten to three.
- 40:19Speaker 1: There we go. So if you want to get a
- 40:21Speaker 1: little insight into netball, perhaps you've got a youngster that
- 40:25Speaker 1: wants to find out a little bit more about the game,
- 40:27Speaker 1: then you can come along on Saturday at the Three
- 40:29Speaker 1: Hills Ashley, thank you very much for coming in. It's
- 40:32Speaker 1: been a brilliant morning, and good luck in all your rugby,
- 40:36Speaker 1: your nitbull and cheerleader for your mum at the marathon.
- 40:40Speaker 3: Thank you very much.
- 40:41Speaker 1: Okay, right, so I don't know if you've got time
- 40:44Speaker 1: for a song, but we just put this one on
- 40:45Speaker 1: and see what have us. This is a great track
- 40:47Speaker 1: from the sixties. I grew up listening to this lot.
- 40:49Speaker 1: This is a Rolling Stones and get off for my
- 40:51Speaker 1: cloud though. That's the Rolling Stones fading out there and
- 41:10Speaker 1: nineteen sixty five and they're still going. But I don't know.
- 41:14Speaker 1: Once again, I don't know if i'd like to go
- 41:16Speaker 1: and see them because it had just like shatter all
- 41:18Speaker 1: the illusions and it'd be disappointed. But I will say
- 41:22Speaker 1: that the tribute bands that are around at the moment
- 41:25Speaker 1: are really excellent, top dollar. Now. We went to see
- 41:31Speaker 1: the Illegal Eagles at Leedscliffe Hall and oh my word,
- 41:37Speaker 1: they were just just like the Originals. They really were.
- 41:40Speaker 1: It was a brilliant evening. And we went to see
- 41:44Speaker 1: an Elo tribute band as well and they were just
- 41:48Speaker 1: absolutely top class. They really were. It really sounded just
- 41:52Speaker 1: like them. In fact, I saw Elo at the two.
- 41:56Speaker 1: I was all excited about it and the tickets we
- 41:59Speaker 1: got lott of money. We're right at the top at
- 42:02Speaker 1: the back. You know, you're like miles away from the
- 42:05Speaker 1: stage and you end up watching it on the big
- 42:09Speaker 1: screen and you think, you know what, he could do
- 42:11Speaker 1: this at home, watch it on the telly. So there's
- 42:13Speaker 1: nothing like watching, you know, something really close up, hands on.
- 42:18Speaker 1: And so if you get a chance to go and
- 42:19Speaker 1: see a really top top dollar tribute band, then make
- 42:24Speaker 1: sure you do. Okay. So we're running out of time now,
- 42:27Speaker 1: and which is always a good thing. It means that
- 42:29Speaker 1: we've had loads to talk about and I'm just going
- 42:33Speaker 1: to say that, Well, that's it from me. I'll be
- 42:36Speaker 1: back on Saturday and catching up with a bit more sport.
- 42:38Speaker 1: I'll be back with AD and we've got two special
- 42:40Speaker 1: guests on the show. We've got Ruth Miles and her
- 42:43Speaker 1: friend Fran. They'll be telling us about a charity football
- 42:46Speaker 1: match coming up in memory of Ruth's husband Alex and
- 42:49Speaker 1: they'll be raising money for Pilgrim's Hospices. And I'll be
- 42:52Speaker 1: on the PA system that day looking forward to helping
- 42:55Speaker 1: out Ruth and Fran and it's just something else. This
- 43:00Speaker 1: is the second time they've done the game, and it
- 43:03Speaker 1: really really is going to be a brilliant day. So
- 43:05Speaker 1: I'll be telling you about that on Saturday.
- 43:08Speaker 4: M
