Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: On the show today, Russell Wilson officially announced his retirement
- 0:03Speaker 1: from the NFL after fourteenth season, of course, the first
- 0:06Speaker 1: ten with the Seahawks. We will talk about his true
- 0:09Speaker 1: legacy and what it is in Seattle. What he talked
- 0:12Speaker 1: about in is goodbye video he posted online yesterday. Derek
- 0:16Speaker 1: Hall I mentioned he knows what he took less to
- 0:18Speaker 1: resign now than waiting and entering free agency. You'll hear
- 0:22Speaker 1: from him why he did that. I asked Derek Hall
- 0:24Speaker 1: yesterday about that, and you'll hear his answer. What the
- 0:27Speaker 1: lead running back situation is in these first practices for
- 0:29Speaker 1: the Seahawks post Kenneth Walker, of course he's now with
- 0:32Speaker 1: the Kensee Chiefs. We'll talk about what the starting cornerback
- 0:35Speaker 1: situation is with Witherspoon standing out watching practices until he
- 0:39Speaker 1: gets a new contract, and where I see the right
- 0:42Speaker 1: guard situation so far. What I saw yesterday eleven o'clock.
- 0:46Speaker 1: Keith Macpherson, former WFN radio host in New York, now
- 0:50Speaker 1: the host of the Mike Chech streaming sports show out
- 0:52Speaker 1: of New York City. We'll hear from Keith. We talked
- 0:55Speaker 1: to him last week. We're and talked to him again
- 0:57Speaker 1: about the NBA Finals, about the Knicks winning Game one
- 0:59Speaker 1: at all eleven o'clock, eleven thirty year texts four nine
- 1:02Speaker 1: four or five to one on the Beacon Plumbing hotline,
- 1:05Speaker 1: excuse me me, Tacoma Dodge text line. Keith the fishon
- 1:08Speaker 1: will be on THEEP Plumbing hotline or he back her
- 1:11Speaker 1: text at eleven thirty as we do every day on
- 1:14Speaker 1: the show. And Chris, I'm assuming you saw Russell Wilson's
- 1:17Speaker 1: goodbye video yesterday.
- 1:20Speaker 2: Absolutely, man, I did. I'm actually very happy that he
- 1:24Speaker 2: finally he retired. It was it was time. I thought
- 1:28Speaker 2: we I think maybe two years ago we kind of
- 1:30Speaker 2: mentioned that, man, it might be time for him to
- 1:33Speaker 2: hang it up. But I was pretty big on last year.
- 1:36Speaker 2: I thought was going to be his last season in
- 1:37Speaker 2: the NFL. He played, and it probably didn't go well,
- 1:41Speaker 2: not probably didn't go the way he wanted it to.
- 1:43Speaker 2: But I'm glad to see that he is getting opportunities
- 1:46Speaker 2: elsewhere and he sees that and he's willing to take
- 1:49Speaker 2: a step back and say, you know what, I've played
- 1:51Speaker 2: football for a long time. I played really good football
- 1:54Speaker 2: at my pointing career, especially in Seattle, and I'm Okay,
- 1:57Speaker 2: I'm at peace with moving on and try something else out.
- 2:01Speaker 1: It was a very Russell Wilson production one, not a
- 2:04Speaker 1: very slick video and music and edited and yeah, and
- 2:09Speaker 1: that's what he is and has been. He said in
- 2:12Speaker 1: his video that he's looking forward to maintaining his passion
- 2:15Speaker 1: for the sport by working for CBS Television. He confirmed
- 2:17Speaker 1: he's joining the network's game day pregame show, The NFL Today.
- 2:22Speaker 1: James Brown, Nate Burlson, former Seahawks nemesis, and the Super
- 2:26Speaker 1: Bowl Hall of Fame coach Bill Cowers also on that show.
- 2:30Speaker 1: It was three minutes and fifteen seconds. He posted on
- 2:32Speaker 1: his Twitter x account at Danger Russ Wilson if you
- 2:35Speaker 1: haven't seen it, he thanked football, thank him for its
- 2:39Speaker 1: lessons he gave him. He thanked his all his former
- 2:42Speaker 1: coaches he's specifically by name. Thanked Pete Carroll for drafting
- 2:45Speaker 1: him in twenty twelve out of Wisconsin, making him the
- 2:48Speaker 1: Seahawks starter from game one of Wilson's rookie season here
- 2:51Speaker 1: in Seattle. Of course, Wilson rewarded Carroll's faith by leading
- 2:55Speaker 1: the Seahawks to consecutive Super Bowls in his second and
- 2:58Speaker 1: third seasons two third tween of fourteen. Wilson won Seattle's
- 3:02Speaker 1: first NFL championship at the end of that twenty thirteen season,
- 3:06Speaker 1: when he and the Seahawks dominated Peyton Manning and the
- 3:08Speaker 1: record setting Broncos in Super Bowl forty eight. To Caro,
- 3:13Speaker 1: Wilson on his video said, quote to Coach Carroll, thanks
- 3:16Speaker 1: for taking a chance on a young five eleven black
- 3:18Speaker 1: kid from Richmond, Virginia that was told he was too
- 3:21Speaker 1: small to ever make it in the NFL. He thanked
- 3:26Speaker 1: his teammates. He said he had the privilege of sharing
- 3:28Speaker 1: the locker room with This is what Russell Wilson had
- 3:31Speaker 1: to say. Thank you.
- 3:32Speaker 3: He was fast to Coach Carroll, thanks for taking a
- 3:36Speaker 3: chance on young five to eleven black kid or Richard,
- 3:39Speaker 3: Virginia that was told he was too small to ever
- 3:42Speaker 3: make it in the NFL. We knew what winning was like.
- 3:48Speaker 3: N To every teammate I had the privilege of sharing
- 3:50Speaker 3: the locker room, Thank you for the sacrifice, the brotherhood,
- 3:54Speaker 3: the memories. None of this is possible without you. To
- 3:58Speaker 3: every fan who supported me the highs and the lows,
- 4:00Speaker 3: your belief, your energy, and your passion meant more than
- 4:03Speaker 3: you'll ever know to Seattle. You raised me not just
- 4:08Speaker 3: all the wins and crazy low games, but also the
- 4:11Speaker 3: forever memories. After he won the Super.
- 4:13Speaker 1: Bowl, your fee Hall super Bowl forty eight champion. Then,
- 4:20Speaker 1: first of all, that sounded like, hey, Seattle, we got
- 4:23Speaker 1: a deal under the bed sheets, didn't it. The tone
- 4:25Speaker 1: of his voice was very familiar in an understated toad.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Then Wilson got to what his true legacy is here
- 4:32Speaker 1: in Seattle. It goes far beyond football to those who
- 4:36Speaker 1: really don't know or care about the sport and what
- 4:38Speaker 1: Wilson did for the Seahawks, this is what he said.
- 4:40Speaker 3: Next, the kids at Seattle Children's Hospital. You gave me
- 4:44Speaker 3: hope and belief that I'm better tomorrow, and hopefully I
- 4:49Speaker 3: did the same for you.
- 4:50Speaker 1: This is actually happening. This is awesome, This is awesome.
- 4:55Speaker 1: That was one of the patients that he visited Seattle
- 4:57Speaker 1: Children's and he went into I mean the depth of
- 5:01Speaker 1: Seattle children, the heaviest, the sickest of the sick. My
- 5:05Speaker 1: wife works at Seattle Children's and she saw firsthand what
- 5:08Speaker 1: Russell Wilson did over ten years there. Of all he
- 5:11Speaker 1: accomplished over ten wonders say you know, he started week
- 5:15Speaker 1: one of his rookie year over they had just signed
- 5:17Speaker 1: Matt Flynn to a Big Bucks free agent contractor veteran
- 5:20Speaker 1: from Green Bay. Wilson beat him out starting week one
- 5:23Speaker 1: in twenty twelve as a rookie, getting to and winning
- 5:26Speaker 1: a Super Bowl in a second season, getting back there
- 5:28Speaker 1: with one yard before his faded interception to Malcolm Butler
- 5:32Speaker 1: in Super Bowl forty nine from winning another one in
- 5:34Speaker 1: his third season. Nine of his ten Pro Bowl selections
- 5:37Speaker 1: while he was a Seahawk through all of that. It's
- 5:41Speaker 1: what he did at Seattle Children's. It's really his true
- 5:43Speaker 1: legacy because it goes so far beyond football and touches
- 5:45Speaker 1: so many more people than football fans or football players.
- 5:50Speaker 1: In the spring, I remember this story. My wife saw it,
- 5:54Speaker 1: and I always remember this. He ended up retelling the
- 5:56Speaker 1: story later because in the spring of twenty twelve, I
- 6:00Speaker 1: said just drafted him in the third round out of Wisconsin.
- 6:03Speaker 1: Wilson showed up at Seattle Children's. He had the idea
- 6:07Speaker 1: that he wanted to get back and go to the
- 6:09Speaker 1: children's hospital. His mother had been a nurse a long
- 6:12Speaker 1: time in the medical profession. He showed up, He went
- 6:15Speaker 1: to the front desk, the visitor's desk at Seattle Children's
- 6:17Speaker 1: there in Lowellhurst, just north of the University of Washington.
- 6:20Speaker 1: He said, Hi, I'm Russell Wilson, and the guard looked
- 6:23Speaker 1: at him and said, who are you? Never heard of
- 6:26Speaker 1: you before? He was like five days after getting drafted
- 6:29Speaker 1: in the third round, this little five eleven quarterback from Wisconsin,
- 6:32Speaker 1: and guard like, I don't know any idea who you are.
- 6:35Speaker 1: From that point that first Tuesday in twenty twelve, in
- 6:38Speaker 1: the spring of twenty twelve, just after he got drafted,
- 6:40Speaker 1: he was out here for rookie Minicamp from that point
- 6:43Speaker 1: ten years forward, every Tuesday in season, after Monday night
- 6:49Speaker 1: games in Washington, d C. Tuesday morning at Seattle Children's
- 6:53Speaker 1: every Tuesday for ten years in season out of season.
- 6:56Speaker 1: When he was here, he was at Seattle children. He
- 6:59Speaker 1: was there so much that the staff, the families, and
- 7:03Speaker 1: in the patients inside the hospital had Blue Tuesdays at
- 7:08Speaker 1: Seattle children They still do to this day, have Blue
- 7:10Speaker 1: Tuesdays wearing Russell Wilson gear and Seahawks gear. Playoff, of course,
- 7:16Speaker 1: the Blue Fridays here across the Pacific Northwest, supporting the Seahawks.
- 7:22Speaker 1: He went not just into the front room where they
- 7:24Speaker 1: have meet and greets and photo ops. He went into
- 7:27Speaker 1: the burn units, the cancer units of Seattle children, the
- 7:30Speaker 1: infectious disease units. He would mop up and wear hazmat
- 7:33Speaker 1: suits and the cape and the shield and the mask
- 7:38Speaker 1: and a headtop to go into these rooms. And yeah
- 7:42Speaker 1: he posted on social media, and yeah he had cameras
- 7:45Speaker 1: taking it, But so what he was there The people
- 7:48Speaker 1: that were criticizing him weren't. And I can tell you
- 7:51Speaker 1: firsthand from seeing it, watching it when I go pick
- 7:54Speaker 1: up my wife inside Children's what a huge impact that
- 7:58Speaker 1: had on the community. It gave those kids home, and
- 8:00Speaker 1: not every one of them survived. That's the nature of
- 8:03Speaker 1: Seattle childrens in such critical cases there and Wilson would
- 8:07Speaker 1: go and a week or two later, some of those
- 8:10Speaker 1: kids passed away, many others didn't, and many others survived
- 8:14Speaker 1: and beat cancer. And he has tons of stories of
- 8:18Speaker 1: families that he touched, and the families have tons of
- 8:20Speaker 1: stories to this day, Chris having Russell Wilson come in
- 8:24Speaker 1: and give their kids something to look forward to and
- 8:26Speaker 1: wearing his gear and getting fired up. And I know
- 8:31Speaker 1: it's easy to knock Wilson, of course, was how he
- 8:34Speaker 1: orchestrated his way out of Seattle, how he engineered his
- 8:39Speaker 1: trade and wanted his legacy to be just so. But
- 8:42Speaker 1: I can tell you there are still people inside Seattle children,
- 8:46Speaker 1: There are people who are parents of kids. There are
- 8:49Speaker 1: kids themselves who are no longer kids, and young adults
- 8:52Speaker 1: who will never forget what Russell Wilson did inside that
- 8:56Speaker 1: community for ten years. And that's his true legacy to me,
- 9:00Speaker 1: that it goes so far beyond football. He did what
- 9:03Speaker 1: athletes can rarely do. He's a player of a sport
- 9:08Speaker 1: who transcended the sport and helped a community help people
- 9:13Speaker 1: that had nothing to do with football. The kids and
- 9:16Speaker 1: their families inside Seattle too. They didn't care whether the
- 9:18Speaker 1: Seahawks won the day before or two days before. On
- 9:20Speaker 1: a Sunday. They were worried about whether their kid was
- 9:23Speaker 1: going to live, and whether they were going to get
- 9:25Speaker 1: out of the hospital, and why are they in here
- 9:27Speaker 1: for Christmas? That's what they cared about. And those people
- 9:30Speaker 1: love Russell Wilson to this day. A couple of years ago,
- 9:34Speaker 1: Wilson had been through his second season with Denver. He
- 9:38Speaker 1: was during the summer coming out to Seattle for a
- 9:40Speaker 1: charity event and he stopped buying announced the Seattle Children's
- 9:45Speaker 1: It was on a Friday, and nobody knew he was coming,
- 9:48Speaker 1: and he stopped in and the place went wild. It
- 9:53Speaker 1: was like the Beatles were walking. I mean, it was
- 9:56Speaker 1: the impact, just that snapshot of the impacts that he
- 9:59Speaker 1: had in that community. To me, that's his Seattle legacy.
- 10:05Speaker 1: I've written that at the News Tribune, I've talked about it.
- 10:08Speaker 1: That's his true legacy, transcending the sport he played. He's
- 10:12Speaker 1: the best quarterback the Seahawks have ever had, and I
- 10:15Speaker 1: will say he's one of the best athletes Seattle has
- 10:18Speaker 1: ever had, both on the field and for what he
- 10:20Speaker 1: impacted the Pacific Northwestern and community off of it. It's
- 10:25Speaker 1: hill Goodwin was one of the greatest athletes, one of
- 10:28Speaker 1: the greatest athletes, one of the greatest people to ever
- 10:30Speaker 1: play in or be in Seattle. Yeah, how he left
- 10:32Speaker 1: was messy. What happened makes his legacy complicated and messy
- 10:36Speaker 1: for many, but not for me and not for those
- 10:39Speaker 1: I still see wearing a Seahawks jersey number three inside
- 10:41Speaker 1: Seattle Children's Hospital. The Hall of Fame is a different question, Chris,
- 10:47Speaker 1: I mean, I think he might be one yard shore
- 10:50Speaker 1: to getting in well play.
- 10:52Speaker 2: I don't think he's getting in. It's I'm not mad
- 10:55Speaker 2: at someone that does put him in there. But you
- 10:59Speaker 2: go down the list. I think you and the mayor
- 11:01Speaker 2: talked about it a few days ago. You go down
- 11:03Speaker 2: the list of the quarterbacks that are in that have
- 11:08Speaker 2: multiple Super Bowl rings and might not have an All Pro. Well,
- 11:11Speaker 2: Russell Wilson has one super Bowl ring and no All Pro,
- 11:14Speaker 2: no first team All pros. That is so I think
- 11:17Speaker 2: that's where I draw the line. How many All Pros
- 11:20Speaker 2: did you have? Because even someone like Marshawn Lynch, he
- 11:22Speaker 2: was the best running back in the league at one
- 11:25Speaker 2: point in his career and he was also viewed as
- 11:28Speaker 2: maybe a top three guy, Russell Wilson never got that opportunity.
- 11:31Speaker 1: Unfortunately.
- 11:32Speaker 2: It's tough because he had Aaron Rodgers, Patrick Mahomes. There
- 11:34Speaker 2: was a lot of good quarterbacks, but he was never
- 11:38Speaker 2: the number one or number two quarterback in the league
- 11:40Speaker 2: at his point, at his peak, he might have been
- 11:43Speaker 2: number three, and that's why he was AP the second team.
- 11:46Speaker 2: But I think Hall of Fame worthy. You got to
- 11:48Speaker 2: be all AP one at least once or twice. And
- 11:52Speaker 2: that's where I say, you know, he's a really good player,
- 11:55Speaker 2: but Hall of Fame probably not and he might get in.
- 11:58Speaker 2: He could still get in. I could be one hundred
- 12:00Speaker 2: percent wrong, but I just don't think he is. I
- 12:03Speaker 2: just know he's a really good player, and really good
- 12:05Speaker 2: player sometimes don't make it. And that's okay. It won't
- 12:08Speaker 2: be the end of the world if Russ doesn't make
- 12:10Speaker 2: it in. But yeah, it's gonna be crazy to see
- 12:14Speaker 2: how this all plays out looking back at his career,
- 12:18Speaker 2: and yeah, he definitely has a shot.
- 12:20Speaker 1: But will he make it? That's the big question. What
- 12:22Speaker 1: do you think? Well? Four nine, four to five one,
- 12:25Speaker 1: I'll ask him that to come a Dotch text line
- 12:26Speaker 1: two questions. One is in your mind Russell Wilson a
- 12:29Speaker 1: Hall of Famer the Pro Football Hall of Fame? And two,
- 12:32Speaker 1: in your mind, what is Russell Wilson's legacy here in Seattle,
- 12:37Speaker 1: in the Pacific Northwest? And then the NFL. We'll read
- 12:39Speaker 1: back your text At eleven thirty, Chris says, a, I
- 12:43Speaker 1: think he's really close. There's a really fine line between
- 12:46Speaker 1: winning two Super Bowls and one as a quarterback, as
- 12:49Speaker 1: a delineator to getting in to the Hall of Fame.
- 12:52Speaker 1: Trent do for won of Super Bowl Forriends, it's another quarterback.
- 12:55Speaker 2: How about this, I'll reward it. I'll say first ballot. No, no,
- 13:00Speaker 2: could he definitely get in?
- 13:01Speaker 1: Likely?
- 13:02Speaker 2: Sure? Would him missing it be a surprise probably maybe
- 13:07Speaker 2: a little bit, But it's very close. As you mentioned
- 13:10Speaker 2: as you were talking about how close it was, like
- 13:12Speaker 2: if you win the second Super Bowl, there's probably no question.
- 13:15Speaker 1: So look at the player the quarterbacks who won one
- 13:18Speaker 1: Super Bowl who were in the Hall of Fame. Joe Namath,
- 13:21Speaker 1: Len Dawson. Much of de Lan Dawson's career there were
- 13:24Speaker 1: no Super Bowls. There were the AFL and the NFL
- 13:26Speaker 1: didn't play each other championships. Johnny Unitas, same thing. Most
- 13:30Speaker 1: of Johnny Unitas's career was without the Super Bowl before
- 13:34Speaker 1: nineteen sixty seven and Super Bowl one. Brett Favre was
- 13:39Speaker 1: an NFL MVP multiple times used Chris's point about never
- 13:44Speaker 1: Russell Wilson never being an MVP. Kurt Warner same thing.
- 13:47Speaker 1: One super Bowl with the Rams, lost another with Arizona,
- 13:52Speaker 1: but he was an All Pro, a first team All Pro,
- 13:54Speaker 1: and Russell Wilson was not the one Chris that I
- 13:57Speaker 1: think Russell Wilson compares favor two. Who is in the
- 14:01Speaker 1: Hall of Fame is ken Stabler. Stabler won won Super
- 14:05Speaker 1: Bowl with the Oakland Raiders in the nineteen seventies. He
- 14:07Speaker 1: went to a second one. Ken Stable he is in
- 14:10Speaker 1: the Hall of Fame. Stabler is he won ninety six
- 14:13Speaker 1: games over his careers. Wilson ran won one hundred and
- 14:17Speaker 1: twenty one. Stabler played ten years. It's a very similar
- 14:20Speaker 1: career arc Stabler played ten years. His best ten years
- 14:23Speaker 1: his first ten years with the Oakland Raiders, then he
- 14:25Speaker 1: played three years with the Saints in two forgotten years
- 14:28Speaker 1: with the Houston Oilers to end his season. Of course,
- 14:31Speaker 1: Wilson played the ten years with Seattle, then two with Denver,
- 14:33Speaker 1: one with the Steelers, and the last year with the Giants.
- 14:37Speaker 1: Stabler had one hundred and ninety four touchdown passes against
- 14:40Speaker 1: two hundred and twenty two interceptions. Wilson three hundred and
- 14:44Speaker 1: fifty three touchdowns and only one hundred and fourteen interception.
- 14:48Speaker 1: I know it's a different year of a game. They
- 14:49Speaker 1: throw a lot more, but he made fewer mistakes, game
- 14:53Speaker 1: changing turnovers almost half as many as Stabler did Stabler's
- 14:58Speaker 1: career passing percentage fifty nine point eight Russell Wilson's sixty
- 15:03Speaker 1: four point six. Stabler has one Super Bowl championship in
- 15:07Speaker 1: a second Super Bowl game that the Raiders lost, Wilson
- 15:11Speaker 1: saying one super Bowl championship a second appearance that he
- 15:14Speaker 1: came within one yard of winning. Again. They do comps
- 15:18Speaker 1: the fifty people who vote on Hall of Fame candidacy
- 15:22Speaker 1: and voting to get in or out. They do comps
- 15:25Speaker 1: of guys who are already in. They try to adjust
- 15:28Speaker 1: it for era. But to me, Russell Wilson favors compares
- 15:32Speaker 1: favorably to Ken Stabler, who is already in the Hall
- 15:35Speaker 1: of Fame. But it's close, and it could be a
- 15:38Speaker 1: thing where he ended up someday, twenty years down the road,
- 15:41Speaker 1: getting in on a senior committee vote as a senior
- 15:43Speaker 1: Era a legacy selection into the Hall of Fame. But
- 15:48Speaker 1: I'm with you because I don't think he's a first
- 15:49Speaker 1: ballot Hall of Famer because he didn't win that second
- 15:51Speaker 1: Super Bowl. But man, his legacy here is to me
- 15:57Speaker 1: as one of the best ever in Seattle for what
- 15:59Speaker 1: he did on and off the field. Four nine four
- 16:02Speaker 1: or five one on the Tacoma Dodge. Text line, is
- 16:04Speaker 1: Russell Wilson to you a Hall of Famer and what
- 16:07Speaker 1: is his legacy? To you a Seahawks fan, somebody who
- 16:10Speaker 1: lives in the Pacific Northwest or is from here or
- 16:13Speaker 1: just listening because you love Seattle sports. We'll read back
- 16:16Speaker 1: your text at eleven thirty Russell Wilson retiring to join
- 16:20Speaker 1: CBS Television after fourteen years in the NFL yesterday up
- 16:25Speaker 1: next the current day Seahawks. I was out here yesterday
- 16:28Speaker 1: watching practice. After it, I asked Derek Hall why he
- 16:31Speaker 1: resigned now when he knew the market could have gotten
- 16:33Speaker 1: him more money in the spring, when free and seeing
- 16:36Speaker 1: his rookie contract was ending. You'll hear Derek Hall's answer.
- 16:39Speaker 1: I'll talk about what I saw on the field yesterday,
- 16:41Speaker 1: including who the starting running back is post Kenneth Walker.
- 16:44Speaker 1: At eleven o'clock o'clock, we'll talk to Keith McPherson from
- 16:47Speaker 1: New York about the Knicks in the NBA Finals. All
- 16:49Speaker 1: that's coming up from the Virginia Mason Athletic Center. On
- 16:52Speaker 1: ninety three point three KJRFM. Welcome back to the Greg
- 17:01Speaker 1: bellt Show with Christopher Kidd. I've here from the Virginia
- 17:04Speaker 1: Mason Athletic Center, Seahawks Headquarters. Yes, I'm gonna answer a
- 17:09Speaker 1: couple questions on the to coma tout's text line four nine,
- 17:12Speaker 1: four to five one from the four to five one
- 17:13Speaker 1: and the two oho six. Note, I am not on
- 17:15Speaker 1: YouTube today. I don't have the remote camera hooked up
- 17:18Speaker 1: to YouTube, so we're doing it radio audio only. I'll
- 17:22Speaker 1: be back in the studio tomorrow, I think. What's tomorrow, Friday. Yeah,
- 17:26Speaker 1: I'm losing tracking back on YouTube tomorrow. Same with Ian.
- 17:30Speaker 1: His show from twelve until three out here with me
- 17:33Speaker 1: at Seahawks Headquarters won't be on YouTube. We'll get the
- 17:37Speaker 1: remote camera going and do the YouTube thing for those
- 17:39Speaker 1: of you who like to watch it on YouTube. Yesterday
- 17:42Speaker 1: out here at Seahawks, Derek Hall took the practice field
- 17:46Speaker 1: a couple hours after signing his new three year, forty
- 17:49Speaker 1: two million dollar contract extension, and his teammates they were
- 17:52Speaker 1: rasing him from the start he walked on the field,
- 17:55Speaker 1: giving him a hard time. Julian Love and Devin Witherspoon
- 17:59Speaker 1: were yelling from about four yards away about why Hall
- 18:01Speaker 1: wasn't stretching in the same cadence as the rest of
- 18:04Speaker 1: his teammates, and Hall turned around saying I've already stretched
- 18:07Speaker 1: and I already did that, and oh, you're too good
- 18:10Speaker 1: for us now and new big shot, and it went
- 18:13Speaker 1: on the whole practice. Witherspoon I mentioned who wasn't scrimmaging,
- 18:17Speaker 1: was cat calling him from behind the defensive huddle. After
- 18:21Speaker 1: practice he was given Hall a hard time. It went
- 18:25Speaker 1: that way through the whole practice. Jull In Love, the safety,
- 18:30Speaker 1: said that he's the loudest seahawk that they have. He
- 18:33Speaker 1: said he's even louder than Devin Witherspoon. Love said, quote,
- 18:37Speaker 1: there's nobody who talks more crap except he didn't say
- 18:40Speaker 1: crap or gets more crap, except he didn't say crap
- 18:44Speaker 1: talked to at than Derek Hall. He said he's louder
- 18:47Speaker 1: than Witherspoon in that regard. Love also called him our
- 18:50Speaker 1: most violent player, and that's why McDonald loves him. We
- 18:54Speaker 1: talked yesterday about Derek Hall setting the edge against the run,
- 18:58Speaker 1: still able to pressure quarterbacks, still able to drop into coverage,
- 19:02Speaker 1: an all around better fit for McDonald's schemes than Boy Mafey.
- 19:06Speaker 1: And that's why Mafey signed and they let him sign
- 19:09Speaker 1: and go in free agency. In his rookie contract expire
- 19:14Speaker 1: this spring, Mafey signs a twenty million dollar a year
- 19:17Speaker 1: contract with Cincinnati. The Seahawks chose Hall because he's a
- 19:21Speaker 1: better player, He's two years younger, and he's cheaper. He's
- 19:25Speaker 1: still only twenty five years old. Still, what they believe
- 19:28Speaker 1: is entering his prime and that's why they gave him
- 19:30Speaker 1: a twenty one million dollar guaranteed deal. Forty two million
- 19:33Speaker 1: dollars over three years. That's fourteen million a year. That's
- 19:37Speaker 1: sportswriter math I can figure that out. That's six million
- 19:40Speaker 1: a year less than Mafey got. So he knew, he
- 19:45Speaker 1: absolutely knew that he could get more by waiting and
- 19:49Speaker 1: entering free agency. He saw in firsthand what the market was,
- 19:52Speaker 1: a player that was not as valued in his own defense,
- 19:55Speaker 1: making six million more than he signed for. So I
- 19:58Speaker 1: asked Derek Hall after practice yesterday, why didn't you wait
- 20:02Speaker 1: and why'd you sign down?
- 20:03Speaker 4: This is what he said, Yeah, man, uh, this place
- 20:10Speaker 4: is really special to me and uh for me, man,
- 20:12Speaker 4: I really love the game in football. Obviously, the money enhances,
- 20:15Speaker 4: you know, our job and what we do, but man,
- 20:17Speaker 4: it's it's really about the love of the game. And
- 20:19Speaker 4: then you know, knowing I'm getting myself into when I'll
- 20:21Speaker 4: come to work every day. You know, obviously, uh, you
- 20:23Speaker 4: know this is a pristine organization, man, John, Mike and
- 20:27Speaker 4: all those guys men that do a great job of
- 20:28Speaker 4: letting us be ourselves truly come out of compete, and
- 20:30Speaker 4: I know We're gonna win a lot of games and
- 20:31Speaker 4: a lot of championships here. So you know, I'm willing
- 20:34Speaker 4: to sacrifice whatever everybody else thought. I would be willing
- 20:37Speaker 4: to make you know able to be here and be
- 20:39Speaker 4: with this team.
- 20:41Speaker 1: Then I asked him, Chris, I don't know if you
- 20:43Speaker 1: have the clip. I had sent it to you too,
- 20:44Speaker 1: But I asked him, so you value culture over money?
- 20:49Speaker 1: And he said, for sure, me personally, I do. That's
- 20:53Speaker 1: not everybody, he said, but I do. He decided he
- 20:57Speaker 1: wanted to know when he came to work every day
- 20:59Speaker 1: what the environmental would be like. He wanted people who
- 21:02Speaker 1: loved him and brought him up. He wanted a chance
- 21:05Speaker 1: to win Super Bowls. He chose that over money. That's
- 21:08Speaker 1: rare in today's sports, because I mean, he's twenty five,
- 21:13Speaker 1: He's got a chance for his first free agent contract,
- 21:15Speaker 1: in the NFL. And we talk about this a lot.
- 21:19Speaker 1: Football players begin in high school doing two a days
- 21:22Speaker 1: coaches drills, six am weight trainings through college for the
- 21:26Speaker 1: second NFL contract, that's the generational Wealth contract. And he
- 21:32Speaker 1: decided not to go into free agency and to sign
- 21:34Speaker 1: resigning and said, no, No, fourteen million dollars a year. He's
- 21:38Speaker 1: not hurting. And he understands that he's from Gulfport, Mississippi,
- 21:41Speaker 1: and he was born into something he can't imagine. He
- 21:45Speaker 1: is becoming his life and he cherishes that, and he
- 21:48Speaker 1: said he's blessed for that. But the fact is, twenty
- 21:51Speaker 1: five year old NFL players get as much as they
- 21:54Speaker 1: can when they can, because nothing in this league is
- 21:56Speaker 1: guaranteed beyond the year you're in injuries, non guaranteed contract.
- 22:01Speaker 1: It can end in a second. And so when you
- 22:03Speaker 1: have this earning opportunity, most players and agents will tell
- 22:07Speaker 1: most players to maximize it because you may never get
- 22:09Speaker 1: another chance at this. Hall said, ah, I'm not going
- 22:12Speaker 1: to max my value here. I'm going to take what
- 22:14Speaker 1: I love and what I know best, and I'm going
- 22:17Speaker 1: to sign for less than I could have gotten in
- 22:19Speaker 1: the free agent market. Next spring, when he signed yesterday
- 22:23Speaker 1: here at Seahawk Headquarters, right upstairs from where I'm talking
- 22:26Speaker 1: to you right now. His mother was right next to him.
- 22:29Speaker 1: Stacy Gooden Crandall had Derek Hollwins on March nineteenth, two
- 22:33Speaker 1: thousand and one, in Gulfport, Mississippi, and Derek was born
- 22:38Speaker 1: very prematurely, twenty three and a half weeks. I had
- 22:41Speaker 1: my twins were born at thirty one weeks. That scared
- 22:44Speaker 1: the hell out of me and my wife. I can't
- 22:46Speaker 1: even imagine having babies born at twenty three weeks. He
- 22:50Speaker 1: was born twenty three weeks. He was born weigh in
- 22:53Speaker 1: two pounds nine ounces, and after birth. As most babies,
- 22:57Speaker 1: those as parents know, the baby's weight drops immediately after birth.
- 23:01Speaker 1: After birth, Derek Hall weighed at one point one pound
- 23:04Speaker 1: thirteen ounces. His mom told John Boyle the Seahawks website
- 23:09Speaker 1: during her son's rookie mini camp the first month in
- 23:12Speaker 1: the NFL and May twenty twenty three, Stacy good and
- 23:17Speaker 1: Crandall said, quote, it was a scary, scary time me
- 23:21Speaker 1: being a twenty six year old single mother. I didn't
- 23:23Speaker 1: know what to expect, what to think, and the doctors
- 23:25Speaker 1: was saying that if he lived through the night. He'd
- 23:27Speaker 1: be a vegetable. He had a grave three brain bleat.
- 23:31Speaker 1: He had to be resuscitated. He didn't have a heartbeat,
- 23:35Speaker 1: he was on life support. There were so many wet IFFs,
- 23:38Speaker 1: so it was a scary time. Derek Hollins's mom said
- 23:40Speaker 1: of Derek's birth, it really was. And Wednesday, his mother
- 23:44Speaker 1: was at hallside from signing that second and coveted NFL
- 23:48Speaker 1: contract with the Generational Wealth for forty two million dollars.
- 23:53Speaker 1: This is what Derek Hall said about having his mom
- 23:54Speaker 1: and his sister and his agents with him when he
- 23:56Speaker 1: signed a deal yesterday. Mom and my sister flew in
- 23:59Speaker 1: last night.
- 24:00Speaker 4: They got here about midnight last night, turned around left
- 24:02Speaker 4: and back this morning. So obviously that's something that's pretty
- 24:05Speaker 4: special obviously for my mom and my family. It is
- 24:08Speaker 4: excusing me, man, just my mom continued to be my mom,
- 24:11Speaker 4: you know, showing up doing the things that she does,
- 24:13Speaker 4: flying in overnight to be able to fly back out
- 24:15Speaker 4: and go to work tomorrow morning.
- 24:16Speaker 1: It's special. Pretty cool as a parent. It's pretty cool
- 24:21Speaker 1: to hear that Sudn appreciate his mother, And I mean
- 24:25Speaker 1: they make fame, the fortune, their super Bowl champion. He
- 24:27Speaker 1: had two sacks and a forced fumble in the Super
- 24:29Speaker 1: Bowl just a couple months ago, and there's Derek Hall
- 24:33Speaker 1: thanking his mom for coming where he's come from one
- 24:36Speaker 1: pound thirteen ounces born at twenty three and a half
- 24:39Speaker 1: weeks into a forty two million dollar outside linebacker in
- 24:43Speaker 1: the NFL. A lot of people don't know Derek Hall's story.
- 24:47Speaker 1: A lot of people do, but it became well known
- 24:50Speaker 1: around the Super Bowl time, and it was pretty cool,
- 24:52Speaker 1: a pretty cool full sircer moment to have his mother
- 24:56Speaker 1: there with him yesterday and Chris, this is what what
- 24:58Speaker 1: to me? I remember we talk about sports, the sports,
- 25:00Speaker 1: about sports and the games, or about the people. This
- 25:03Speaker 1: is the people. This is who Derek Hall is. It's
- 25:06Speaker 1: really cool. Yeah, they make a lot of money, but
- 25:08Speaker 1: it's cool when full circle moments and they can share
- 25:11Speaker 1: with family and then it's it's pretty cool to witness that.
- 25:15Speaker 2: Yeah, it shows how human they actually are at the
- 25:19Speaker 2: end of the day, and they happen to do something
- 25:22Speaker 2: really well at an elite level and they get paid
- 25:24Speaker 2: a lot of money to do that. That's kind of
- 25:26Speaker 2: the separation between an athlete and a person that works
- 25:31Speaker 2: a regular job or is in business. Or whatever the
- 25:36Speaker 2: case may be. So sometimes you need that ability to
- 25:40Speaker 2: humanize them and say, oh, do you know what, they
- 25:41Speaker 2: just happen to play a sport, or they happen to
- 25:43Speaker 2: just own something, a big bank or something. So it's
- 25:47Speaker 2: really cool that when you're personalized the store, personalize the story,
- 25:50Speaker 2: you can see the true person within them, outside of
- 25:53Speaker 2: them for sixty minutes on the field, dominating or playing
- 25:56Speaker 2: a game. You know you did that with Russell Wilson.
- 25:59Speaker 2: His trail to work is amazing. He's just a really
- 26:02Speaker 2: cool person on that side of the fence. And obviously
- 26:05Speaker 2: people are gonna tease him about his different personalities because
- 26:08Speaker 2: he does have a few, and as you mentioned in
- 26:10Speaker 2: his retirement video, he had his other voice that he's used.
- 26:15Speaker 1: So at the end of the day, you look at.
- 26:17Speaker 2: Russell Wilson and what he did off the field as
- 26:20Speaker 2: far more than we did on the field. Yeah, it
- 26:22Speaker 2: was great that he brought Seattle a championship, but his
- 26:25Speaker 2: legacy and impact will stretch further beyond that Super Bowl
- 26:28Speaker 2: just because of what he meant to so many families
- 26:32Speaker 2: and youth that looked up to him, whether he was
- 26:34Speaker 2: on the field or not. They saw Russell wasn't as
- 26:36Speaker 2: someone that cared, came and spent time with them at
- 26:38Speaker 2: their worst and was able to provide some light. And
- 26:42Speaker 2: you look at Derek call just showing love to his mom,
- 26:45Speaker 2: taking time out of her day to fly up and
- 26:47Speaker 2: support her child on his biggest step in the in
- 26:51Speaker 2: his NFL career. I think that's huge and that that's
- 26:54Speaker 2: good for him and his family. As you mentioned, generational wealth,
- 26:57Speaker 2: now it's time to use that and give back to
- 27:00Speaker 2: his community and help others that could use a hand.
- 27:03Speaker 1: Mike McDonald called football wise, He calls him our type
- 27:06Speaker 1: of guy. He said that he's a great person, a
- 27:09Speaker 1: great teammate. He operates exactly how we want players to operate.
- 27:13Speaker 1: He called him a great player. He thinks they can
- 27:17Speaker 1: have an even better future with Derek Hall. Refine his
- 27:21Speaker 1: pass rush a little bit, give him more opportunities in
- 27:24Speaker 1: space on the edge. He just McDonald thought Mafey fit better,
- 27:31Speaker 1: chiefly because he stops the run and by the way,
- 27:35Speaker 1: he's two years younger, but he just felt he was
- 27:37Speaker 1: an all around, three down outside linebacker in the mold
- 27:40Speaker 1: that he needs in this defense. That's why they paid him.
- 27:45Speaker 1: We mentioned the seventeen percent pressure rate that he had
- 27:48Speaker 1: last season and a relatively few number of sacks. Hall
- 27:51Speaker 1: yesterday said that's what he wants to improve on in
- 27:53Speaker 1: twenty twenty six is getting to the quarterback, bringing him
- 27:55Speaker 1: to the ground. But Mike McDonald doesn't care about that.
- 27:59Speaker 1: He's he talked about today and his coaches show. I
- 28:02Speaker 1: don't even know how many sacks he had last year,
- 28:05Speaker 1: and I don't care. I do care how he plays
- 28:09Speaker 1: the style the violence that Julian Love talked about. Says
- 28:15Speaker 1: that my job is to go through your phase and
- 28:17Speaker 1: get to the quarterback and get to the ball carrier.
- 28:21Speaker 1: And that's the mentality that Mike McDonald wants and demands
- 28:24Speaker 1: on the edge, and he thought that Derek Hall gave
- 28:27Speaker 1: that in spades to him and his defense, far more
- 28:30Speaker 1: than boy Mafey. So Mafay goes and Derek Hall stays.
- 28:34Speaker 1: Four nine, four to five one. You're thinking of Derek Hall,
- 28:38Speaker 1: having heard why he's re signed or less than he
- 28:40Speaker 1: probably could have made in the open market, and your
- 28:43Speaker 1: opinion on the choice the Seahawks made it outside linebacker
- 28:46Speaker 1: in the future to go with a twenty five year
- 28:48Speaker 1: old Haull over the twenty seven year old boy Mafe
- 28:51Speaker 1: Hall under contract through the twenty twenty nine season. It's
- 28:55Speaker 1: essentially a four year, forty four million dollar deal if
- 28:58Speaker 1: you count the last year of his deal a rookie deal.
- 29:00Speaker 1: That's this season up next. What I saw in the
- 29:04Speaker 1: field yesterday at OTA practices, what I saw Devin Witherspoon
- 29:07Speaker 1: not doing who I saw the number one running back
- 29:09Speaker 1: was maybe not who you think on the field post
- 29:12Speaker 1: Kenneth Walker, but they're doing at right guard who didn't
- 29:15Speaker 1: practice All that's coming up eleven o'clock. Keith Macpherson from
- 29:18Speaker 1: New York on the NBA Finals in the next winning
- 29:21Speaker 1: game one that's coming up on ninety three point three
- 29:23Speaker 1: kjr FM. Welcome back to the Greg Belt Show with
- 29:29Speaker 1: Christopher Kidd'm live from the Virginia Mason Athletic Center, Seahawks
- 29:32Speaker 1: headquarters for organized team activities practices this week. Another one
- 29:36Speaker 1: today open to the media. If you miss start talking
- 29:39Speaker 1: about Russell Wilson. What is his legacy in Seattle's true
- 29:42Speaker 1: legacy goes wave me on football into lives at Seattle
- 29:47Speaker 1: Children's Hospital. What is his Hall of Fame credentials? Do
- 29:50Speaker 1: you think that discussion will be on the iHeartRadio app
- 29:53Speaker 1: nine through three KGr or our website nine through three
- 29:56Speaker 1: KGr dot com. You read my story that's up right
- 29:58Speaker 1: now at the News Tribune dot com about Russell Wilson's
- 30:01Speaker 1: goodbye to the NFL and his true legacy here in
- 30:04Speaker 1: the Pacific Northwest. Fifty two years ago today, Seattle was
- 30:09Speaker 1: granted an NFL franchise. June fourth, nineteen seventy four, Commissioner
- 30:13Speaker 1: Pete Roselle announced that the city of Seattle is going
- 30:16Speaker 1: to join the NFL in nineteen seventy six, along with
- 30:20Speaker 1: the team from Tampa Saint Petersburg, and that the new
- 30:24Speaker 1: Seattle team would play in the King County Multi Purpose
- 30:27Speaker 1: Dome Stadium. That was the official name for the Kingdome
- 30:31Speaker 1: the King County Multipurpose Dome Stadium, and in June seventeen,
- 30:36Speaker 1: nineteen seventy five, the name Seahawks became the NFL team
- 30:40Speaker 1: for Seattle as a result of a fan vote that
- 30:42Speaker 1: had over twenty thousand submissions here locally, Chris, do you
- 30:46Speaker 1: know what the other four finalists for consideration for the
- 30:48Speaker 1: Seahawks name was back in nineteen seventy five.
- 30:51Speaker 2: I just give me the answers any guesses.
- 30:54Speaker 1: Nope, one of whom one of them still exists today.
- 30:58Speaker 1: One of the finalists for the Seahawks name as an
- 31:01Speaker 1: expansion franchise as chosen by fan vote in nineteen seventy five.
- 31:05Speaker 1: One of the finalists the Mariners. Yeah, I wouldn't have
- 31:09Speaker 1: guessed that major League baseball team. Two years later, the Evergreens,
- 31:14Speaker 1: the Seattle Olympics, and the Seattle Sakeys. Those are the
- 31:19Speaker 1: four finalists that runners up to the Seahawks becoming the
- 31:24Speaker 1: Seahawks instead of the Olympics or the Evergreens that we
- 31:28Speaker 1: could be talking about instead. So those could be Seattle
- 31:32Speaker 1: Evergreens were on the field yesterday for OTA practices. What
- 31:35Speaker 1: did I see? Well? I mentioned Witherspoon doing drills early
- 31:39Speaker 1: in practice, stretching and with his defensive backs and cornerbacks.
- 31:42Speaker 1: But then once scrimmaging happened, not scrimmaging, and that's he's
- 31:46Speaker 1: waiting for his contract. Doesn't want to risk injury. His
- 31:48Speaker 1: agent says, stay off the field. Of course Seaaks are
- 31:50Speaker 1: fine with that. It's June. They don't need their three
- 31:52Speaker 1: time Pro Bowl cornerback practice and in June and T
- 31:56Speaker 1: shirt shorts and helmet, so the cornerback the starters where
- 32:00Speaker 1: Josh Joe and Jeremiah Pritchett, who we talked about, is
- 32:03Speaker 1: going to get a long look from the coaching staff
- 32:05Speaker 1: in training camp to potentially be the new third cornerback
- 32:08Speaker 1: that Rieke Woolan was. He's going to get a really
- 32:12Speaker 1: long look starting in training camp. But right now he's
- 32:14Speaker 1: getting a starting role with Witherspoon out what I see
- 32:17Speaker 1: at right guard yesterday. Anthony Bradford still the starter. Bo Stevens,
- 32:20Speaker 1: the All American, the fifth round pick from Iowa, was
- 32:24Speaker 1: on the right side, but he was third string. Bradford
- 32:27Speaker 1: had ice on his knee, missed the last couple of
- 32:29Speaker 1: scrimmage periods yesterday, and it was Christian Haynes, remember him,
- 32:33Speaker 1: not Stevens, who stepped in when Bradford wasn't the starting
- 32:36Speaker 1: right guard yesterday? In practice? Who was the starting running
- 32:40Speaker 1: back now that Kenneth Walker is a Kansas City chief
- 32:44Speaker 1: George Hallane was the starting running back yesterday, not first
- 32:47Speaker 1: round pick rookie Generitan Price. Halani was the first guy
- 32:53Speaker 1: on the first team with Sam Darnold from most of
- 32:55Speaker 1: the practice. At the very end, Price alternated in but
- 32:58Speaker 1: mostly Price worked with Drew Locke in the second team offense.
- 33:02Speaker 1: So far, well, I don't expect that to stay the
- 33:04Speaker 1: same through training. Can't. But it is a reminder that
- 33:06Speaker 1: George Lawanne's in this mix. Kennedy McIntosh did not practice.
- 33:10Speaker 1: Zach Sharbonnair of course did not practice. He's still only
- 33:13Speaker 1: five months out from his knee injury. And Manuel Wilson
- 33:18Speaker 1: was on the field, was in there, but was not
- 33:20Speaker 1: with the ones. The free agent from Green Bay it
- 33:22Speaker 1: was George Hallane and then very late in practice Jedirean Price.
- 33:27Speaker 1: The other guys who didn't I didn't see practice. Tory
- 33:29Speaker 1: Horton was in the weight room. Elijah Royo, the second
- 33:32Speaker 1: year titant, Bryce Cable to the second year offensive linemen
- 33:34Speaker 1: were in the weight room weight training. Of course, Horton
- 33:36Speaker 1: coming off the big shin injury, Arroyo in Cable who
- 33:39Speaker 1: had practice last week in OTA's, but they weren't on
- 33:41Speaker 1: the field yesterday. A. J. Barner was on a side
- 33:43Speaker 1: field with a trainer after his two offseason surgeries. Fellow
- 33:47Speaker 1: tight and Eric Salbert, the veteran Josh Jones, the backup tackle,
- 33:51Speaker 1: also didn't practice and McIntosh. McIntosh is now eleven months
- 33:56Speaker 1: out from his ACL tear. We'll see if he's on
- 33:59Speaker 1: the field for the started training camp out. I think
- 34:01Speaker 1: he's a puplist candidate. Of course, players are on the
- 34:03Speaker 1: pupp list to begin training camp are eligible to be
- 34:05Speaker 1: on the pup list for roster flexibility to begin the
- 34:08Speaker 1: regular season. If you're not on the pupp list to
- 34:10Speaker 1: begin training camp, you can't be on the pup list
- 34:12Speaker 1: to begin the season. By and large, that's kind of
- 34:15Speaker 1: the rules. Are some exceptions to that. Mike McDonald wasn't
- 34:18Speaker 1: real thrilled yesterday during practice at the tempo and the execution.
- 34:21Speaker 1: At one point he yelled, particularly at his offensive line
- 34:25Speaker 1: execution and tempo. He screamed at him he didn't want
- 34:30Speaker 1: them going full go. He's not testing them physically right now.
- 34:34Speaker 1: He's trying to test them mentally and get them through
- 34:36Speaker 1: the playbook and the early part of the installs. Most
- 34:39Speaker 1: of all, he wants to keep guys off the ground
- 34:41Speaker 1: from getting injured. And there were some dudes that were
- 34:44Speaker 1: going to ground for passes and blocks and he wanted
- 34:48Speaker 1: none of that. And he's stopped practice at one point
- 34:50Speaker 1: and angrily barked at him for that. It's a really
- 34:53Speaker 1: fine line for coaches at this time of year. They're
- 34:55Speaker 1: really not trying to push these guys physically and unnecessarily
- 34:59Speaker 1: risk them to end when you're in June, still three
- 35:02Speaker 1: months before the season begins. But Sam Darnold course still
- 35:09Speaker 1: entrenched in doing his thing as the starting quarterback, accurately
- 35:13Speaker 1: throwing passes. Jalen Milroe still looking very athletic, still getting
- 35:17Speaker 1: out on the run. New offensive coordinator Brian Flurry doing
- 35:21Speaker 1: a lot with Glinn Kubiak did and special run package
- 35:24Speaker 1: plays for Milrow and his athleticism. We'll see how much
- 35:28Speaker 1: more Milroe plays if he does play more than the
- 35:31Speaker 1: three snaps in three games he got into October last
- 35:34Speaker 1: season and then they just shelved him for the rest
- 35:37Speaker 1: of the season. But that's what I saw yesterday. Yes
- 35:39Speaker 1: it's June, I get it, But I'm just giving you
- 35:41Speaker 1: a sketch of where it looks like the defense is
- 35:43Speaker 1: returning whole. They were all on the field with the
- 35:48Speaker 1: exception of Witherspoon, which is a really good sign when
- 35:50Speaker 1: it's a voluntary mini camp for OTAs for a defending
- 35:55Speaker 1: Super Bowl champion. Up nex, Let's go to the NBA Finals.
- 35:58Speaker 1: The Knicks won last night Game one in San Antonio.
- 36:00Speaker 1: Keith macpherson has covered in Knicks for years. Former wfan
- 36:03Speaker 1: host now hosts the mic Drop streaming sports show online.
- 36:08Speaker 1: He'll join us from New York City. Keith McPherson next
