  [SPEAKER_00]: We've talked about this once before in January, but there's been some updates to the cap numbers from over the cap.com.

  [SPEAKER_00]: and I've gotten a little bit deeper into the free agent pool and different things I think the jag was should be doing heading into this 2025 off season, which I say 2025, 2026, March 9th, less than a month away, the start of the legal tampering period, so you need to have all your ducks and a row for players you want to keep prior to that.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think if you want to keep those guys, because I think that we'll have a big market, you know, Buster Brown, Travis CTN, Devon Lloyd, if you're trying to keep those guys, I think you need to have, have those deals pretty much locked up by that point.

  [SPEAKER_00]: There are a few moves that we're doing here that will greatly help that cap health and that cap situation for 2026 while also not really hindering you too much moving forward as the cap continues to rise pretty significantly every single year.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I do think teams should be accounting for that.

  [SPEAKER_00]: One of the reasons some teams got in a little bit of trouble

  [SPEAKER_00]: around the, you know, 2021, 2021, 2021, two season with CAP situations, is because nobody accounted for basically the pandemic and COVID happening.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And obviously, if that type of situation happens, that can impact things, moving forward.

  [SPEAKER_00]: But I don't think you should bank on that right there if you're an NFL team.

  [SPEAKER_00]: If you're trying to be as competitive as you could possibly be in 2026, you need to be accounting for and planning on the cap rising and using that projected expanded cap year over year to your advantage.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Teams got in trouble because the cap actually didn't rise.

  [SPEAKER_00]: After the COVID year and it took a little bit to get back going, but now it's incredibly strong year over year that NFL is performing extremely well, and so you're seeing the cap rising.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Now all that said, Jaguar 11 million dollars in the red, we talked about this before, but you're restructuring Trevor Lawrence, you're cutting his cap hit and half and you're doing the same thing with Josh Hinesown.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Two guys, Trevor Lawrence really entering the prime of his career.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Josh Heinz Allen firmly in the prime of his career.

  [SPEAKER_00]: No signs of slowing down for Josh Heinz Allen.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So both of these guys, you're cutting their cap hits in half basically.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And they're both right around $12 million after you cut them in half.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, Trevor Lawrence is cap number is 24 million.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So you get both of those guys down to write about 12 million.

  [SPEAKER_00]: You restructure their contract.

  [SPEAKER_00]: You offer them a big signing bonus that can be pro-rated over the link of the contract.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And you also add some minimal void years onto the end of that contract as well.

  [SPEAKER_00]: you know further alleviate the cap and again you're planning on this cap situation rising year over year significantly if you're not planning on that I don't think you're taking full advantage of the rules of the NFL salary cap right so I think that you've got to do that and extending not extending but restructuring two of your top stars two of the most important positions in the sport it just makes sense when you're in this type

  [SPEAKER_00]: I've seen some people throw out 25 million a year.

  [SPEAKER_00]: You know, I think with with some guys getting 40 million plus, I don't know how you get 25, but maybe you could, whether it's 25, 30 million a year, whatever it may be over like four years, you cut his number down his cap number because it's about 15 million right now, 15.2 million.

  [SPEAKER_00]: You save seven and a half million dollars in cap space.

  [SPEAKER_00]: You've cleared up basically $30 million in cap space by restructuring, Trevor Lawrence, restructuring, Josh Hines Allen, extending, Trayvon Walker.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think Trayvon Walker's a star.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think you didn't see that as much this year because of the injuries he was battling through.

  [SPEAKER_00]: having him and Josh Hines Allen together and having those two guys now being able to line up next to each other.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So yeah, I wanna keep Josh, excuse me, Treba and Walker around for as long as possible and still a very young player.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I'm also extending Devon Hamilton for two more years at about $10 million a year that can cut his capit down from about 12 million to about four million.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I don't think he's somebody who you want to keep on the roster when you could potentially add through the draft of player that I believe in stronger than Chuma Doga.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I don't know exactly, but they won't impact the 2026 cap in any way negatively And then you're also gonna place the 50 year option on Anton Harris and all the sudden that 2022 draft Looking pretty damn good and Or is that 20?

  [SPEAKER_00]: I do think there's corners in the draft and in free agency that could be cheaper than Buster.

  [SPEAKER_00]: But to me, the way this organization operates, Buster Brown was one of those players that as soon as Anthony Campanylei got here.

  [SPEAKER_00]: They wanted him in the starting lineup and they were right about him.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And now, because he was a late-round pick, because he has a scheme specific player.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think you can probably keep them around longer at a reasonable value as compared to other, you know, the way he executes in this Jaguar zone-based defense, I think you could argue his best value is to a team like the Jaguars, where as, and to a team like the Jaguars, he could be worth $15 million a year, but I think you get him less than that because he is extremely specific.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So I'm putting it at $10 million a year for Buster Brown.

  [SPEAKER_00]: The way the Jaguar is right, these contracts if you haven't been paying attention.

  [SPEAKER_00]: You're somewhere in the ballpark of 40% of your average annual value, which is $10 million here for Buster Brown, is gonna be your year one cap it.

  [SPEAKER_00]: The rest of that year one cap hit gets pro-rated over the length of the contract.

  [SPEAKER_00]: and as well, like I've said, I just think he's so valuable.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And even compared, like Kenneth Walker, just wants to roll MVP, right?

  [SPEAKER_00]: He can do all the things to generate explosive runs for you to grind it out as well.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Really was very good in pass protection for the Jaguars this year.

  [SPEAKER_00]: explosive runner, really good to see where out of the back field, bring Travis UT and back it.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Whatever the lowest number you can, but I'm putting that 12.5 million a year.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think Travis UT and is a more complete player than James Cook.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Yes, I know James Cook just won the rushing title, but I think Travis UT and has that within him as well.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So he's about $5 million, 206 cap hit your at $24 million in cap space.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And then you get to a couple big veterans that I want to bring in.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And that's John Franklin Myers who we've talked about a lot, put him at $12 million a year, about $4.5 million, $20.25 cap hit, you're at 19.5 million in cap space.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think the Jaguars have a potential strength heading into 2026 with their defensive front, which Josh Heinz Allen, Traybaum Walker, returning air, Graham said returning to Von Hamilton, BJ Green and Danny Strigos stepping up, right?

  [SPEAKER_00]: But John Franklin Myers is one of these dudes.

  [SPEAKER_00]: that can be a ask-kicker, game-recker, versatile player, move around the defensive front basically from like five to three tech and everywhere in between, and just help you be a nastier defense, help you rush the passer, he's a good run defender as well, so you've got all those things in your back pocket with him.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And we've talked about so much, you look at these teams that are playing

  [SPEAKER_00]: the defensive fronts are unbelievable.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So, John Franklin Myers just makes too much sense in my opinion, in the priming of his career.

  [SPEAKER_00]: He talked about a bunch of tight ends yesterday that could make sense for the Jaguars.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Liam Cohen used him extremely well in 2024 when he was the bucks offensive coordinator and he had another good season this year, Kate Autton did.

  [SPEAKER_00]: He's a guy that when you talk about having a Britain strange and a Kate Autton, you're 12 first and all, you're 13 first and all, it just got upgraded in a big

  [SPEAKER_00]: This is a pretty big move here but nine million dollars a year over two or three years, twenty twenty five cap it about four million so you're sitting at about 15 and a half million and you have money to go into the draft and bring in your draft guys and you don't have a first round pick right now which saves you some some

  [SPEAKER_00]: But you bring back guys like Dennis Gardeck on a minimum deal, maybe smooth, maybe Tim Patrick, I think probably Matt Dickerson, none of these things are really impacting the cap all that much.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And I think you also bring back exclusive rights for Agent Christian Braswell, which all you have to do to keep an exclusive rights for Agent is offer them a $1 million or not $1 million, but a

  [SPEAKER_00]: So if they want Christian Brasswell, he will be back and I think they should they develop them well in this system.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think when he was called into action, outside of like one mistake against the chargers, he played really well.

  [SPEAKER_00]: It's a deep free agent class for a linebacker, but it's also an extremely deep draft.

  [SPEAKER_00]: They're both really a lot more in that hybrid edge slash sham roll that Dennis Gardeck played last year.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think that we're also gonna be trying to target an edge for sure at some point in the draft, a past rush or on the edge, because then you talk about having

  [SPEAKER_00]: Again, Josh Hind Island, Trayvon Walker, Eric Gromsted, John Franklin Myers, Devon Hamilton, Danny Strigo, BJ Green, and another edge who probably should be able to earn a spot ahead of Strigo and Green, but they're going to make it difficult because they're tough hardworking players.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Definitely always looking at offensive line for the long term.

  [SPEAKER_00]: A lot of people like to trade him, yes, is his cap number two high for a backup, yes.

  [SPEAKER_00]: But I just don't think anybody else is gonna be wanting to take on that cap number.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And I think for the Jag wars, even though he does cost more than you'd like, he does provide value for the 2026 campaign.

  [SPEAKER_00]: As a key backup, who can play guard or tackle and do it at a fairly high level for a backup, you know.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I know if you're comparing him to starters, you're like, eh, but if you're comparing him to backups around the league, that's a great spot to be in.

  [SPEAKER_00]: Um, so yeah, you're also looking in my opinion at YVC R4 or 5.

  [SPEAKER_00]: always want to have depth that wide receiver.

  [SPEAKER_00]: You could also add a corner at some point.

  [SPEAKER_00]: We haven't talked about Travis Hunter.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I think he's going to be a key to unlocking the Jaguars in 2026 and we'll talk about that more in a later show maybe later today.

  [SPEAKER_00]: But one of the things about Travis Hunter that I didn't really think about prior to him being added to the Jaguars so that it's to think very much about him being drafted by the Jaguars prior to that actually happening.

  [SPEAKER_00]: The fact that he plays wide receiver in corner, I think you just want to have a one more good depth piece at both of those places that both of those positions.

  [SPEAKER_00]: So, you know, the jacks have a great receiving core, including Travis Hunter, but Jacobie Myers, Parker Washington, Brian Thomas Jr., he threw a Britain string in and K-Dotton in there as well as guys that can impact the passing game and Travis Eugene in Beijing and Lincoln Allen too.

  [SPEAKER_00]: But if you're in a game where Hunter is playing more corner, you want to have a fourth receiver who you can rely on a lot.

  [SPEAKER_00]: I just think you want to set yourself up in a lot of different ways.

  [SPEAKER_00]: And at corner, again, if Travis Hunter is playing more, why do receiver in a specific game?

  [SPEAKER_00]: uh he brought back buster brown you have jarring and jones but you may be want and obviously Jordan Lewis can play nickel he's coming off an injury but I think you may be in Christian Brassel but you might want one more guy that you feel really good about so that's kind of where I'm at with the Travis Hunter situation we'll talk about it more later on.
