Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Actually, we were just thinking about this story with Adela.
- 0:03Speaker 1: Something sort of cool happened. She was turned down for
- 0:07Speaker 1: a gig that ended up being probably the greatest thing
- 0:10Speaker 1: that ever happened to her. Tanya did a deep dive.
- 0:12Speaker 1: What's the real story behind her?
- 0:14Speaker 2: So it was a Netflix show called Popstar Academy Cat's Eye,
- 0:17Speaker 2: and it followed a bunch of girls competing for a
- 0:19Speaker 2: spot in this new global girl group, which ended up becoming...
- 0:22Speaker 2: cat's eye Grammy nominated. But one of the girls on
- 0:25Speaker 2: the show was a singer and dancer from Slovakia named Adela.
- 0:29Speaker 2: She didn't make the cut. Okay. Now, usually these reality shows,
- 0:33Speaker 2: if you don't make it, you never hear from them again,
- 0:35Speaker 2: but not Adela. So she just put out her first album.
- 0:38Speaker 2: It's called Prima. It debuted at number one on two
- 0:41Speaker 2: billboard charts. But basically the story about Adela is she
- 0:45Speaker 2: took rejection and turned it into redirection. And so I
- 0:48Speaker 2: was wondering if there was any point in your life
- 0:50Speaker 2: that you didn't get a job or you didn't get
- 0:52Speaker 2: the relationship or you didn't get a spot on the
- 0:54Speaker 2: team that ended up being better for you.
- 0:56Speaker 3: Yes.
- 0:57Speaker 1: It was, I was a teenager and I was lucky
- 0:59Speaker 1: enough to host a show for like a kid's game
- 1:02Speaker 1: show on ESPN 19 or something. And they wanted to
- 1:06Speaker 1: do this deal that was so unfair for the next season.
- 1:09Speaker 1: And I said no to it. And the person on
- 1:12Speaker 1: the other end said, you'll never work again in TV.
- 1:15Speaker 1: You don't take this deal. Oh my gosh. And I
- 1:17Speaker 1: got flabbergasted. fire my belly from that really upset me.
- 1:20Speaker 1: I was, I was crying as a kid, you know?
- 1:22Speaker 1: And I thought, how can people be that mean, terrifying?
- 1:26Speaker 1: And then it just aggravated, irritated me enough to drive me,
- 1:29Speaker 1: I think. So it happens, but good honor. And I
- 1:31Speaker 1: love the music.
