Latest / The Richard Sherman Podcast / NFL Week 4 REACTION: 49ers stay undefeated, Seahawks bounce back, Chiefs-Raiders & Bills-Patriots
Transcript
- 0:05Speaker 1: Welcome to the Richard Sherman podcast and what another great
- 0:08Speaker 1: day of football in week four. A lot of long
- 0:12Speaker 1: field goals, long field goal attempts, some big plays, some upsets,
- 0:17Speaker 1: just great all around football. Mitchell, how you feeling?
- 0:23Speaker 2: Richard, I'm feeling good for you because the Seattle Seahawks
- 0:27Speaker 2: get back on track after a disappointing week out east
- 0:32Speaker 2: against the Washington Commanders. Take care of business today against
- 0:35Speaker 2: the Chargers. Then you go a little further south, the
- 0:37Speaker 2: San Francisco 49ers in a big matchup against the Denver Broncos. Richard,
- 0:42Speaker 2: defensive battle in that first half. Your boy, your MVP,
- 0:46Speaker 2: Brock Purdy, gets it done again. Big game. Let's start
- 0:50Speaker 2: right there. San Francisco hosting the Denver Broncos. A matchup
- 0:54Speaker 2: that I think went under the radar because these are
- 0:57Speaker 2: two teams we could see in February, Richard. They both
- 1:00Speaker 2: have great defenses. It was a shame to see Patrick
- 1:03Speaker 2: Sertan go out there in the second half. But Richard,
- 1:07Speaker 2: I'm curious to see when are the 49ers going to lose, man?
- 1:11Speaker 2: I mean, is it next week against Seattle? The matchup
- 1:14Speaker 2: everyone in America has been waiting for. This team, 4-0.
- 1:18Speaker 2: off to a recklessly hot start. Your thoughts, my friend?
- 1:21Speaker 1: Well, Mitchell, I don't know. Those are questions I don't
- 1:23Speaker 1: like to ask because I don't want the answer to them. Mitchell,
- 1:26Speaker 1: right now, they are going to ride the train. And
- 1:28Speaker 1: despite all the injuries and losing Kyle Hughes' check today,
- 1:32Speaker 1: I mean, it looked like a hyperextension. You hope that
- 1:36Speaker 1: it didn't get his meniscus or anything like that. But
- 1:39Speaker 1: Brock Purdy continues to play well. Wasn't a perfect game today.
- 1:43Speaker 1: He was relatively efficient, 19-30, 2-18, two touchdowns, no interceptions.
- 1:48Speaker 1: He did some things with his legs, kept himself out
- 1:50Speaker 1: of trouble. But again, the huge story here is the
- 1:53Speaker 1: offensive line, who still has yet to give up a sack. Again,
- 1:57Speaker 1: came into the season, I was questioning, along with quite
- 2:02Speaker 1: a bit of the 49ers faithful, why this hasn't been addressed,
- 2:05Speaker 1: why this offensive line, especially the interior, has not been
- 2:08Speaker 1: addressed through the draft or free agency. There were people
- 2:11Speaker 1: available that we thought could help this team, but they
- 2:16Speaker 1: didn't address it. I guess they addressed it in some ways,
- 2:19Speaker 1: but overall, they went with the unit that they've gone with,
- 2:23Speaker 1: at least four of the five, and it's worked out
- 2:25Speaker 1: incredibly well. They have protected Brock Purdy, and when Brock
- 2:28Speaker 1: Purdy has been pressured, he's gotten the ball off, he's
- 2:31Speaker 1: gotten out of harm's way, or he's just made a play.
- 2:34Speaker 1: In this game, it was everybody. Christian McCaffrey, 15 carries
- 2:37Speaker 1: for 52 yards and a touchdown. Got 18 yards through
- 2:41Speaker 1: the air on three catches. Deebo Samuels got a touchdown
- 2:44Speaker 1: through the air and had some really cool runs on
- 2:46Speaker 1: the ground. Mike Evans tough through a rib injury. Had
- 2:49Speaker 1: some cool plays. I thought he was going to get
- 2:51Speaker 1: in the end zone early in the game on a
- 2:54Speaker 1: corner route it looked like, but got tripped up by
- 2:57Speaker 1: a friend of the program, Talanoa Hufanga, the former All-Pro
- 3:02Speaker 1: 49er safety who is now with the Denver Broncos and
- 3:04Speaker 1: having a fantastic season. Eddie Pinero, one of two on
- 3:08Speaker 1: the field goals, three of three in extra points. Kalon Black,
- 3:11Speaker 1: only six carries for 13 yards. Again, that ground game.
- 3:16Speaker 1: This is a great defense, so I'm not going to
- 3:18Speaker 1: take anything away from them, but we watched what Kenneth
- 3:22Speaker 1: Walker did to this defense early in the season and
- 3:25Speaker 1: how he dominated and destroyed this defense, so they can
- 3:28Speaker 1: be run on. Now, as the season progresses, teams, they
- 3:32Speaker 1: game plan, they get in better shape, they figure things out,
- 3:35Speaker 1: so Um, there's, there's something to be said there, but
- 3:38Speaker 1: I think the San Francisco 49ers defense, this was a
- 3:41Speaker 1: defensive battle early in the game. Denver was winning three
- 3:44Speaker 1: to nothing. And then the San Francisco 49ers tied up
- 3:47Speaker 1: to three to three. And then we get going, we
- 3:49Speaker 1: get going and we start to figure out who this
- 3:51Speaker 1: team is. Uh, they finally get a touchdown to Debo Samuel.
- 3:56Speaker 1: And then the touchdown to George Kittle, the touchdown to
- 3:58Speaker 1: George Kittle was such a cool play. at the perfect time.
- 4:02Speaker 1: They ran a double A-gap blitz, single man-to-man, everybody's man
- 4:06Speaker 1: across the board, nobody in the middle of the field.
- 4:09Speaker 1: Kittle catches the ball, accelerates, and you talk about a
- 4:11Speaker 1: guy coming off a major injury last season, and he looked,
- 4:16Speaker 1: I mean, he looked very limber right there, Mitchell. He
- 4:18Speaker 1: looked very, very, very nimble. Jack be nimble, Jack be quick,
- 4:23Speaker 1: and he was out of there. 56-yard touchdown. This team
- 4:28Speaker 1: is going to be incredibly difficult to beat late in
- 4:32Speaker 1: the season if they can find a way, just find
- 4:34Speaker 1: a way to get relatively healthy. I mean, they're putting–
- 4:38Speaker 1: I saw Cooks get some reps out there. They're putting
- 4:41Speaker 1: anybody in there regardless because they know, hey, as long
- 4:45Speaker 1: as you know your assignment, we can get it done.
- 4:47Speaker 1: And I hear all these fan bases complaining, man, our
- 4:49Speaker 1: receivers are hurt. That's why our quarterback isn't playing well.
- 4:52Speaker 1: All our receivers are hurt. It's one quarterback who's not
- 4:54Speaker 1: complaining about his receivers being hurt. He's lost– One, two,
- 4:59Speaker 1: three receivers already this season. They're on to receiver five, six,
- 5:03Speaker 1: maybe even seven at this point. And this offense just
- 5:06Speaker 1: continues to be productive. 24 points in this game against
- 5:09Speaker 1: a defense that can play at a really high level. Obviously,
- 5:13Speaker 1: Denver has some questions to answer. Davis Webb. Davis Webb,
- 5:17Speaker 1: the new play caller for the Denver Broncos. Sean Payton
- 5:19Speaker 1: gave the play calling duties over to him. And the
- 5:23Speaker 1: results have been a mixed bag. In this game, you see...
- 5:27Speaker 1: Bo Nix struggled. 42 attempts, only 214 yards, one touchdown,
- 5:31Speaker 1: 80.9 passer rating. J.K. Dobbins, 11 carries for 40 yards.
- 5:38Speaker 2: R.J.
- 5:38Speaker 1: Harvey, he looked like he did more than this. He
- 5:40Speaker 1: had 10 receptions for 68 yards on the ground, but
- 5:44Speaker 1: he only had seven carries for 25 yards. Again, this defense,
- 5:47Speaker 1: they didn't get a sack. But again, they played aggressively.
- 5:51Speaker 1: They played fast. They put pressure on them. They made
- 5:53Speaker 1: them uncomfortable. They played tight coverage in the back end.
- 5:56Speaker 1: They tackled well for the most part. Obviously, it's not
- 5:59Speaker 1: a perfect game. They have yet to play a perfect game.
- 6:01Speaker 1: There are very few perfect games out there. But in
- 6:04Speaker 1: terms of what you expected from the San Francisco 49ers
- 6:07Speaker 1: defense and the question marks that you had and I
- 6:09Speaker 1: had and everybody had for them coming into this season,
- 6:12Speaker 1: They have exceeded expectations, and Raheem Morris deserves a ton
- 6:16Speaker 1: of credit for what he's been able to get out
- 6:17Speaker 1: of this group, and they're only going to get healthier.
- 6:20Speaker 1: They're only going to get guys back. Think about when
- 6:21Speaker 1: they get Nicholas John Bosa back, when Mikael Williams, I mean,
- 6:26Speaker 1: Mikael comes back. He's going to be a big part
- 6:28Speaker 1: of this. And as they continue to get healthier, and again,
- 6:32Speaker 1: there are guys out there, the Buccaneers are now 0-4.
- 6:36Speaker 1: So Vida Vail, Vida Vail's from down the street, Mitchell.
- 6:39Speaker 1: He was born six miles away. from the stadium, from
- 6:43Speaker 1: Levi's Stadium. So if I'm John Lynch, I'm calling Tampa
- 6:47Speaker 1: Bay Buccaneers and saying, hey, he was disgruntled before. You
- 6:51Speaker 1: guys weren't sellers. You're 0-4 right now. Are you sellers
- 6:54Speaker 1: or not? What is the price? And if the price
- 6:57Speaker 1: isn't above a third rounder, then I think you got
- 7:01Speaker 1: to make that move. Even if it's just a one-season rental,
- 7:04Speaker 1: I think you got to make that move and try
- 7:06Speaker 1: to get this team better, especially against a run. I mean,
- 7:09Speaker 1: it only strengthens your team. He's one of the best.
- 7:11Speaker 1: defensive tackles in the National Football League, but the Denver Broncos, man,
- 7:15Speaker 1: I feel terrible for this defense. They lost Patrick Sertan.
- 7:18Speaker 1: They lost Riley Moss. They're two starting corners in the
- 7:21Speaker 1: same game. I think Riley Moss had a rib injury.
- 7:23Speaker 1: Patrick Sertan had a non-contact, maybe calf, but you know
- 7:27Speaker 1: those calves, man. They sneak into that Achilles area, so
- 7:30Speaker 1: you keep your fingers crossed that it's not anything more
- 7:33Speaker 1: serious or it doesn't lead to anything more serious, but
- 7:36Speaker 1: They've got to find some explosiveness on offense, and they've
- 7:39Speaker 1: got to find a way to stop waiting until the
- 7:41Speaker 1: fourth quarter to wake up. This team, and Sean Payton
- 7:44Speaker 1: has said that on multiple occasions, they shouldn't have to
- 7:46Speaker 1: wait until the fourth quarter to learn how to play
- 7:49Speaker 1: football and to be explosive and to get yards and
- 7:51Speaker 1: to score points. I think that's true. Against good teams,
- 7:56Speaker 1: and the San Francisco 49ers are a really good team.
- 7:58Speaker 1: They're number one in our power rankings. They're number one
- 7:59Speaker 1: in my power rankings. Mitchell, your Buffalo Bills, I think
- 8:02Speaker 1: you had. Just went down to the New England Patriots today.
- 8:06Speaker 2: Yeah, you're right about that. You're right about that. Richard,
- 8:10Speaker 2: I'll say this too about the Broncos. You know, they got,
- 8:13Speaker 2: from a name standpoint, a good wide receiving core. Cortland
- 8:16Speaker 2: Sutton paired next to Jalen Waddell. 41 combined yards today
- 8:20Speaker 2: from that duo. It's unacceptable. It's not like Bo Nix
- 8:23Speaker 2: does not have weapons. He does. What he's doing with
- 8:26Speaker 2: those weapons is that question. Denver 2-2 to start the season.
- 8:31Speaker 2: Below expectations here. But I tell you what, Richard, the 49ers,
- 8:34Speaker 2: what they did today to me proved they're going to
- 8:38Speaker 2: be a force in the NFC. Anyone with questions, and
- 8:41Speaker 2: I was one of those coming into the season, you know,
- 8:43Speaker 2: that they beat the Rams. Yeah, that built an excuse
- 8:46Speaker 2: from the Rams. Oh, we had to travel the day before. Well,
- 8:49Speaker 2: you chose to travel the day before. Oh, we didn't
- 8:51Speaker 2: have Aaron Donald. You know, the DN was out, right? So...
- 8:59Speaker 2: You look at that, and then they play the Dolphins
- 9:01Speaker 2: and then ultimately struggle against Arizona. Now you're welcoming one
- 9:04Speaker 2: of the top five teams in the AFC to your home,
- 9:07Speaker 2: and you take care of business by 10 points. Richard,
- 9:10Speaker 2: San Francisco and this 49ers team is going to be
- 9:13Speaker 2: number one in my power ranks this week. I will
- 9:15Speaker 2: join forces with you, my friend. They have convinced me
- 9:18Speaker 2: as such. Let's talk about another team in this NFC West,
- 9:24Speaker 2: this vaunted NFC West, the Seattle Seahawks, Richard. They suffer
- 9:29Speaker 2: a loss against the Commanders, against Marcus Mariota and the Commanders.
- 9:34Speaker 2: A lot of people starting to wonder, hey, us included,
- 9:37Speaker 2: what's going on with their running game? You see Kenneth
- 9:40Speaker 2: Walker running wild in Kansas City, and you just think, hey,
- 9:43Speaker 2: what if? What if we would have paid K-9 instead
- 9:45Speaker 2: of Rashid Shahid? Well, Richard, they might have found their man.
- 9:49Speaker 2: Emmanuel Wilson totes the rock 21 times for 81 yards
- 9:54Speaker 2: and a touchdown, has three receptions for 39 and another.
- 9:58Speaker 2: Did they find their guy? today, Richard, in Emmanuel Wilson
- 10:01Speaker 2: at running back?
- 10:02Speaker 1: They definitely found something. They found some success, and that's
- 10:05Speaker 1: what you're looking for. And they found some success. And
- 10:09Speaker 1: mix it up. Put Rasheed Shaheed back there and found
- 10:11Speaker 1: some success. And I think that's going to be the case.
- 10:14Speaker 1: It's going to be by a committee. They're going to
- 10:15Speaker 1: have to keep trying things, experimenting until they find what works.
- 10:18Speaker 1: Charbonnet practiced this week, and that's a big deal going
- 10:22Speaker 1: forward for this team. That's a guy they feel like
- 10:24Speaker 1: they can lean on, a guy they have high expectations from.
- 10:27Speaker 1: So if he can come in and continue that and
- 10:30Speaker 1: them also know they have a guy like Emmanuel Wilson
- 10:34Speaker 1: in the fold that could come and kind of spell
- 10:37Speaker 1: Charbonnet until he gets fully acclimated into the football season.
- 10:42Speaker 1: But yeah, this is, this was a much better showing.
- 10:44Speaker 1: They averaged 4.2, a carry 33 carries for 138 yards
- 10:48Speaker 1: and two touchdowns. One from Rashid Shaheed on that 28
- 10:51Speaker 1: yard scamper, uh, where he looked incredibly explosive. It looks
- 10:55Speaker 1: like a punt return where he weaved his way to
- 10:57Speaker 1: the end zone. This team looked fantastic. And early on
- 11:00Speaker 1: in this game, this game started off back and forth.
- 11:04Speaker 1: And I know that the LA charger fans, Hey guys, Hey,
- 11:08Speaker 1: Probably need to stay off my pod. Like, I'm not
- 11:10Speaker 1: the guy. I'm not the guy. Ball knower here.
- 11:12Speaker 2: Ball knower.
- 11:13Speaker 1: So not the guy to talk about. We've been talking
- 11:15Speaker 1: about this Justin Herbert thing for a number of years,
- 11:18Speaker 1: and it's always somebody else's fault. It's always the scheme
- 11:21Speaker 1: or the offensive coordinator. It was Greg Roman. Now it's
- 11:23Speaker 1: Mike McDaniels taking the bullets. And it's always somebody else,
- 11:27Speaker 1: and it's never Justin Herbert. And I understand that. There
- 11:30Speaker 1: are other people that made mistakes in this game. The
- 11:32Speaker 1: offensive line has struggled. The defense has had its struggles.
- 11:35Speaker 1: But some of these interceptions– This is first play of
- 11:37Speaker 1: the game. First play of the game. He throws it
- 11:39Speaker 1: to the other team. Mitchell, it wasn't pressure on his face.
- 11:41Speaker 1: It wasn't him taking a ton of hits. It was
- 11:43Speaker 1: a mistake. And when you make mistakes like that, you
- 11:45Speaker 1: make it hard for people to defend you. And you
- 11:48Speaker 1: make it hard for people to justify what the future
- 11:51Speaker 1: is going to look like in LA. And I know
- 11:53Speaker 1: this is a mixed bag. You can have whatever opinion
- 11:56Speaker 1: you want for the LA Chargers, what they should do.
- 11:58Speaker 1: But I don't think you get rid of Mike McDaniel
- 12:00Speaker 1: this quickly. People remember... He was part of the offensive
- 12:03Speaker 1: staff that took Jimmy G to a Super Bowl. Jimmy
- 12:06Speaker 1: G went to a Super Bowl with Mike McDaniel. The
- 12:08Speaker 1: offense works. He made Tua Tungabailoa look like a very
- 12:12Speaker 1: competent quarterback, helped him earn a $ 50 million per year contract.
- 12:18Speaker 1: Let me be, hold on one second, because I want
- 12:21Speaker 1: to get this number right. I want to get this
- 12:23Speaker 1: number right. I want to tell you what he did. Because, Mitchell,
- 12:31Speaker 1: I get tired of these conversations where people say what
- 12:34Speaker 1: they want to say and say what they need to say.
- 12:37Speaker 1: In 2023, Mitchell, Tuatunga-Vailoa, 4,600 yards, 29 touchdowns, 14 interceptions.
- 12:44Speaker 1: That was probably his best year. The next year, he
- 12:46Speaker 1: had 19 touchdowns, 7 interceptions, 2,800 yards, but he only
- 12:49Speaker 1: played 11 games. In 2025, he only played 14 games,
- 12:50Speaker 1: didn't have a great season, 20 touchdowns, 15 interceptions, 2,600 yards. But...
- 13:00Speaker 1: When you tell, when I've heard this constant rhetoric from
- 13:05Speaker 1: Chargers and from people who really can appreciate, man, give
- 13:08Speaker 1: Justin Herbert an offensive coordinator like Kyle Shanahan. Give him
- 13:12Speaker 1: somebody like Sean McVay. Well, they just did that, but
- 13:15Speaker 1: I don't think they understood what this offense entails and
- 13:18Speaker 1: what it takes to play quarterback in this offense, and
- 13:20Speaker 1: it's not that easy. And it's been cool because I
- 13:23Speaker 1: got to watch Kyler Murray, and I wondered how Kyler
- 13:25Speaker 1: Murray would do in Kevin O'Connell's offense because there are
- 13:29Speaker 1: similarities there. and he has to throw it in really
- 13:32Speaker 1: tight windows, and you've got to trust it, and you've
- 13:33Speaker 1: got to throw it to openings, and you've got to
- 13:36Speaker 1: layer it over guys, and he's not the tallest quarterback
- 13:38Speaker 1: in the world. And obviously, there's a learning curve there,
- 13:41Speaker 1: but you can see Kyler Murray in this last game
- 13:43Speaker 1: against the Dolphins, and I know people are going to say, oh,
- 13:45Speaker 1: it's the Dolphins. You can see him layering throws. You
- 13:48Speaker 1: can see him throwing the spots on the field, trusting
- 13:50Speaker 1: the read, trusting that the defense, trusting that, hey, this
- 13:53Speaker 1: is the play that was called. This is the expectation.
- 13:55Speaker 1: This is where I'm supposed to put the ball. My
- 13:57Speaker 1: guy's going to be there, and that's what it takes
- 13:59Speaker 1: to run this offense. Now, Justin Herbert, again, had some
- 14:02Speaker 1: phenomenal moments in this game. There was a fourth and
- 14:05Speaker 1: seven near the end of the game where he threw
- 14:07Speaker 1: it to QJ, and it looked great. It was a
- 14:12Speaker 1: great big arm throw. Like, my God, spectacular play, but
- 14:16Speaker 1: they were already down in the game, and he had
- 14:17Speaker 1: already thrown two interceptions and had a really tough game.
- 14:22Speaker 1: And he got beat up in this game. He made
- 14:24Speaker 1: bad decisions. He held the ball longer than he needed to. So,
- 14:27Speaker 1: You wonder what they're going to do. Is it time
- 14:28Speaker 1: for him to have a new scenery, or do you
- 14:30Speaker 1: get rid of Jim Harbaugh? Like, what do you do there?
- 14:32Speaker 1: But on the other side, the Seattle Seahawks look fantastic.
- 14:36Speaker 1: They needed to bounce back after that game, that commander's game.
- 14:39Speaker 1: They needed to play well. Sam Darnold started this game
- 14:42Speaker 1: not much better than Justin Herbert. He threw an interception.
- 14:46Speaker 1: I think they said it's the first time in history
- 14:48Speaker 1: that both quarterbacks threw an interception to start the game.
- 14:52Speaker 1: But he got it together. He figured it out. He
- 14:54Speaker 1: started to find his rhythm. 13 for 22, only 168
- 14:57Speaker 1: yards and two touchdowns. But, again, he got it done.
- 15:01Speaker 1: He got the ball to Jackson Smith and Jigba. He
- 15:03Speaker 1: got the ball where it needed to be on the field.
- 15:04Speaker 1: They didn't have a whole lot of success, but he
- 15:06Speaker 1: didn't put the ball in harm's way. This was one
- 15:08Speaker 1: of those games that you just needed to get out
- 15:10Speaker 1: of there with a win. You just need to keep
- 15:11Speaker 1: getting your legs under you, keep the crowd into it,
- 15:14Speaker 1: keep doing your things until you were able to get
- 15:17Speaker 1: out of there with a win, and that's what he did.
- 15:19Speaker 1: Like you said, Emmanuel Wilson had a great game. The
- 15:21Speaker 1: defense was what really– Broke this game open. Multiple interceptions
- 15:29Speaker 1: in this game. And obviously having Julian Love back was great.
- 15:32Speaker 1: But Drake Thomas with the first interception of the game
- 15:35Speaker 1: on a great play. They just played good football at
- 15:38Speaker 1: the end of the day. They just played good football.
- 15:40Speaker 1: Uchenna Nwosu made the strip sack at the end of
- 15:44Speaker 1: the game to end it. He's a former Charger. That
- 15:46Speaker 1: was a cool moment for him. But there's so much
- 15:48Speaker 1: depth on his defensive line. It hasn't gone... like they
- 15:52Speaker 1: wanted in every game. But I think this is, again,
- 15:55Speaker 1: death by a thousand cuts. This team is going to
- 15:57Speaker 1: keep chopping wood. This team is going to keep showing up.
- 15:59Speaker 1: This team is going to keep progressing, and it's going
- 16:01Speaker 1: to come together. You're going to look up at the
- 16:03Speaker 1: end of the season, and they're going to either be
- 16:05Speaker 1: the one or two seed, and everything is going to
- 16:06Speaker 1: go through them. And that's the way it's going to
- 16:09Speaker 1: be them in San Francisco. That's why I'm looking forward
- 16:11Speaker 1: to that game next week between Seattle and San Francisco. Mitchell,
- 16:15Speaker 1: we knew when the season started this was going to
- 16:17Speaker 1: be a huge game, and nothing's changed.
- 16:21Speaker 2: This one's it, Richard. I want to get back to
- 16:24Speaker 2: this Justin Herbert conversation, though, because you brought up Jim Harbaugh.
- 16:27Speaker 2: It dawned on me, Jim Harbaugh has been viewed as
- 16:30Speaker 2: this QB whisperer ever since the Colin Kaepernick days with
- 16:34Speaker 2: the 49ers. And I don't know how much of his
- 16:38Speaker 2: credit is truly deserved. I mean, Colin Kaepernick, obviously, out
- 16:43Speaker 2: of Nevada, under Jim Harbaugh, rose to stardom, great quarterback.
- 16:47Speaker 2: But since then, I mean, what are we talking about here, man? Yeah,
- 16:51Speaker 2: you go to U of M. We saw what happened
- 16:53Speaker 2: with J.J. McCarthy. Looks like a failed experiment in the NFL.
- 16:56Speaker 2: Now we go to the L.A. Chargers. And under Brandon Staley,
- 17:00Speaker 2: I think it's fair to say Justin Herbert looked like
- 17:03Speaker 2: a star on the rise in this league. Statistically, he
- 17:06Speaker 2: was airing the ball over the field. He elevated a
- 17:09Speaker 2: lot of the receivers around him. But for some Quinton Johnston,
- 17:13Speaker 2: dropped big passes downfield. his stats could have been a
- 17:16Speaker 2: lot higher than what they are. That being said, when
- 17:19Speaker 2: you look at Jim Harbaugh and his introduction into this team, Richard,
- 17:23Speaker 2: I've seen nothing but regression. I don't know if he's
- 17:26Speaker 2: gun-shy or what, but when you look at the tape
- 17:29Speaker 2: from Justin Herbert from two years ago versus last year
- 17:32Speaker 2: and now this year, it's almost like you see a different,
- 17:35Speaker 2: more reluctant quarterback behind center. And I wonder how much
- 17:38Speaker 2: it has to do with Jim Harbaugh, the one that
- 17:41Speaker 2: is pulling the strings behind the scenes today. Richard, you
- 17:43Speaker 2: played under Jim Harbaugh. What are your thoughts here? Do
- 17:46Speaker 2: you think it's a coaching issue with Herbert?
- 17:49Speaker 1: It could be, but at the end of the day,
- 17:51Speaker 1: coaches coach, players play, and cheerleaders cheer. At the end
- 17:54Speaker 1: of the day, you're out on the field, you make
- 17:55Speaker 1: the decisions, you pull the trigger or don't pull the trigger,
- 17:58Speaker 1: you throw these passes, you make those decisions, and if
- 18:02Speaker 1: you're saying the plays aren't good enough, the tape will
- 18:05Speaker 1: say that. But if you're throwing into double and triple coverage,
- 18:09Speaker 1: if you're throwing the ball too low straight to linebackers,
- 18:12Speaker 1: it's hard to put that on the coaches. You throw
- 18:14Speaker 1: interception to Drake Thomas' first play of the game where
- 18:17Speaker 1: the receivers, it looks like six, seven yards behind the linebacker.
- 18:22Speaker 1: It's hard to defend that. It's hard to put that
- 18:23Speaker 1: on Jim Harbaugh. So I don't know how much of
- 18:26Speaker 1: it's on Jim Harbaugh. Obviously, there's been some regression, but
- 18:30Speaker 1: I don't know what else, what do you think is
- 18:32Speaker 1: the right decision in this situation, Mitchell? Do you fire
- 18:34Speaker 1: Jim Harbaugh and Mike McDaniel and say, oh man, it's
- 18:37Speaker 1: not Justin Herbert, fire them and bring somebody else in.
- 18:40Speaker 1: But then when it doesn't work again, when you keep
- 18:42Speaker 1: doing the same thing and you keep getting the same results,
- 18:46Speaker 1: when do you start to stop avoiding pointing the finger
- 18:50Speaker 1: somewhere and just say, hey, maybe he is great. Maybe
- 18:54Speaker 1: he is an incredible top five talent in the National
- 18:57Speaker 1: Football League. And maybe it cannot work out here. Maybe
- 19:01Speaker 1: that's the truth of the matter. Maybe it cannot work
- 19:04Speaker 1: in L.A. for some reason. And you need to build
- 19:07Speaker 1: around somebody else. You need to build the team a
- 19:09Speaker 1: different way because you have tried for seven years. And
- 19:13Speaker 1: they are looking 0-5 right in the face. What are
- 19:17Speaker 1: you going to do? What are you going to do?
- 19:18Speaker 1: Your next game is the Denver Broncos coming off a
- 19:20Speaker 1: tough loss. Motivated team.
- 19:26Speaker 2: This season they need a factory reset on it because
- 19:29Speaker 2: this could not be going any worse for the chargers
- 19:31Speaker 2: i mean the houston texans and the la chargers stories
- 19:35Speaker 2: of the nfl for the reason you don't want to
- 19:37Speaker 2: be in them and that's just horrendous starts uh these
- 19:40Speaker 2: are two teams that a lot of folks were picking
- 19:43Speaker 2: as dark horses to make the super bowl so you
- 19:46Speaker 2: look at it in the afc and i just got
- 19:49Speaker 2: to believe justin Herbert. If you opened him up on
- 19:52Speaker 2: the open market, I would venture to guess two-thirds of
- 19:55Speaker 2: the league would have their hand in the air. They
- 19:56Speaker 2: want him as their starting quarterback. I think it's a
- 19:59Speaker 2: schematic issue with them in L.A., and hopefully this plays
- 20:04Speaker 2: out because I think he's a tremendous talent. Richard, let's
- 20:07Speaker 2: talk about the Kansas City Chiefs. in the Las Vegas Raiders.
- 20:11Speaker 2: This game came down to the wire in Vegas, and
- 20:15Speaker 2: you know what? If anything, it's a bummer the Raiders
- 20:18Speaker 2: lost because they put up a heck of a fight,
- 20:20Speaker 2: and it certainly looked like they could have won that game.
- 20:23Speaker 2: If anything, this proves the Las Vegas Raiders are for real.
- 20:28Speaker 2: They are a different team this year under Clint Kubiak,
- 20:31Speaker 2: and you see the talent surrounding Kirk Cousins. I mean,
- 20:36Speaker 2: These guys that have had relative unknown careers, the Cody
- 20:39Speaker 2: Whites of the world, coupled with the superstars of Brock
- 20:42Speaker 2: Bowers and the rising star in Ashton Gentry. This Raiders
- 20:46Speaker 2: team has all the weapons there, and then you look
- 20:48Speaker 2: at the free agent additions they did defensively. They're a
- 20:51Speaker 2: different team this year, but credit to the Kansas City Chiefs.
- 20:55Speaker 2: This is a team coming into the season with a
- 20:58Speaker 2: lot of questions around the health of Patrick Mahomes, and
- 21:01Speaker 2: I think he's put that story to bed thus far.
- 21:03Speaker 2: And then again, Kenneth Walker III, Richard. I'm going to
- 21:07Speaker 2: hammer this every single week. 177 yards on the ground. Unbelievable.
- 21:14Speaker 1: 177 yards on the ground. Three total touchdowns in the game.
- 21:18Speaker 1: Just an impact player. Mitchell, there was a point in
- 21:21Speaker 1: this game where he scored a touchdown. The Raiders fumbled
- 21:24Speaker 1: and he scored another touchdown. I think only 20 or
- 21:27Speaker 1: so seconds that went off the actual game clock. I mean,
- 21:30Speaker 1: two touchdowns in 20 seconds. Mitchell, the guy was unbelievable today.
- 21:34Speaker 1: And Patrick Mahomes was good, and Taequann Thornton was good,
- 21:38Speaker 1: and he suffered a lower extremity injury, and you hope
- 21:41Speaker 1: that he's okay and it's nothing major. But if you
- 21:44Speaker 1: look at this team, if you look at Patrick Mahomes
- 21:47Speaker 1: in this game, it's not up to the standard that
- 21:49Speaker 1: we hold Patrick Mahomes to. But the reason they're still
- 21:52Speaker 1: able to win against a Raiders team that just kept fighting,
- 21:56Speaker 1: just kept fighting. Again, Kirk Cousins with Clint Kubiak. Seems
- 22:01Speaker 1: like a match made in heaven. He continues to be productive.
- 22:04Speaker 1: He was 31 of 52, 52 pass attempts, 365 yards,
- 22:09Speaker 1: two touchdowns, was not sacked once. Under pressure, under duress,
- 22:13Speaker 1: a lot, but not sacked one time. Ashton Gentry, 15
- 22:16Speaker 1: for 58, but he was finding a way to get
- 22:18Speaker 1: his big time tight end, Brock Bowers involved, Michael Mayer involved.
- 22:23Speaker 1: Both guys had over 80 yards receiving. Obviously, Bowers had
- 22:27Speaker 1: the touchdown, but for the Chiefs, they need to find
- 22:33Speaker 1: who's going to be the most consistent. And I thought
- 22:35Speaker 1: that Taequann Thornton was starting to figure it out. They
- 22:38Speaker 1: attacked my guy, Hezekiah Masses. What are you starting to
- 22:41Speaker 1: understand in this league is, hey, if you say you
- 22:44Speaker 1: can get the football and you're aggressive, they'll take your
- 22:48Speaker 1: aggression and use it against you. And they attacked him
- 22:50Speaker 1: at times in this game. He did not back down.
- 22:52Speaker 1: He continued to fight. He continued to scrap. He continued
- 22:55Speaker 1: to battle. I thought that Max Crosby continued to battle.
- 22:58Speaker 1: It was fun to see him, but I'm sure he's disappointed.
- 23:01Speaker 1: and the defense giving up 30 points in this game. Obviously,
- 23:04Speaker 1: that fumble was critical in this game. The team was
- 23:07Speaker 1: in good position until that fumble, but Kenneth Walker is
- 23:13Speaker 1: the MVP of this team right now, MVP of the
- 23:15Speaker 1: Kansas City Chiefs, and probably number two in the MVP
- 23:18Speaker 1: race of the National Football League with how he's playing.
- 23:20Speaker 1: They do not win these games without him. They are
- 23:23Speaker 1: not 4-0 without Kenneth Walker III, and I think... I think...
- 23:29Speaker 1: They understand that. I think Andy Reid understands that. I
- 23:32Speaker 1: think Patrick Mahomes understands that. And it takes so much
- 23:34Speaker 1: pressure off Patrick Mahomes and him having to be such
- 23:38Speaker 1: a magician, such a superstar, so superhuman every single week. Hey,
- 23:43Speaker 1: if he's just good enough, you got a guy back
- 23:47Speaker 1: there that can make it happen. And if you're great
- 23:50Speaker 1: and the Patrick Mahomes that everybody remembers that's won multiple
- 23:53Speaker 1: MVPs and Super Bowl MVPs, then this team is close
- 23:56Speaker 1: to unbeatable. But This takes so much pressure off of
- 24:01Speaker 1: him that it allows him to play more free, in
- 24:05Speaker 1: my opinion. And on the other side, the Las Vegas Raiders,
- 24:08Speaker 1: give them a ton of credit. This team, this is
- 24:11Speaker 1: the team that picked number one in the draft last season,
- 24:13Speaker 1: and they're coming out. They could easily be 4-0. A
- 24:16Speaker 1: few more bounces their way, and they win this game.
- 24:19Speaker 1: They showed that they belong in this conversation. They belong
- 24:23Speaker 1: with the Kansas City Chiefs and the Buffalo Bills and
- 24:25Speaker 1: teams like that. They're a good team. Um, and they
- 24:29Speaker 1: should not be overlooked in any way that it's unfortunate
- 24:31Speaker 1: result in this game. They did not win it, but
- 24:34Speaker 1: they showed that they can play. They can go toe
- 24:36Speaker 1: to toe with the Kansas city chiefs or anybody else
- 24:38Speaker 1: for that matter. Um, their defense, again, some plays that
- 24:42Speaker 1: you want to have back. That's what happens on defense.
- 24:44Speaker 1: You learn, you live and you learn, you're playing some
- 24:46Speaker 1: young guys, but they were putting a lot of pressure
- 24:48Speaker 1: on Patrick Mahomes, uh, in this offense throughout this game.
- 24:51Speaker 1: They sacked him twice. Um, And I think Raiders fans
- 24:55Speaker 1: are really excited and they should be excited for the future.
- 24:58Speaker 1: They got a good coach in Clint Kubiak. You always
- 25:01Speaker 1: wonder how these coordinators, how it translates to being a
- 25:04Speaker 1: head coach. And I think so far so good for him.
- 25:08Speaker 1: I'm looking forward to seeing how they continue this season.
- 25:11Speaker 1: They got a game against the New England Patriots. I mean,
- 25:13Speaker 1: this game, this season is so like topsy-turvy. I don't
- 25:17Speaker 1: know how to call that game. I'm not even going
- 25:18Speaker 1: to think about it right now.
- 25:19Speaker 2: It's wild, and the Raiders are a team that's tough
- 25:22Speaker 2: not to root for. I mean, they've been through a
- 25:24Speaker 2: lot recently. They're in a cool city in Las Vegas,
- 25:26Speaker 2: and they've got a bunch of rising stars on their team.
- 25:29Speaker 2: I mean, Brock Bowers, the way he's playing right now,
- 25:32Speaker 2: and Kirk Cousins, again, Michigan State Spartan. Cody White, I
- 25:36Speaker 2: love to see it in the Raiders. Maybe I'm standing
- 25:39Speaker 2: alone on that island, Richard. Maybe it's the Michigan State
- 25:42Speaker 2: and me talking, but I like the Raiders.
- 25:44Speaker 1: I need to tell you about this new prediction market
- 25:47Speaker 1: called Polymarket. It's the best new way to trade in sports.
- 25:52Speaker 2: In the past, if you wanted action on the game,
- 25:55Speaker 2: you put some money in. And if your team was
- 25:57Speaker 2: doing well and you wanted to cash out, they'd lock
- 26:01Speaker 2: the trade or take a huge fee.
- 26:04Speaker 1: But Polymarket is a prediction market. It's a stock exchange
- 26:08Speaker 1: for sports, buying in and selling out on your terms.
- 26:12Speaker 2: Richard, I've tried them all, and Polymarket is simply the
- 26:15Speaker 2: best prediction market. It's better than DraftKings. It's better than FanDuel, Calshi,
- 26:20Speaker 2: you name it.
- 26:21Speaker 1: And they're so confident that you will never go back
- 26:24Speaker 1: to the other guys that they're giving you a free
- 26:28Speaker 1: $ 25 on your first trade when you deposit just $ 10.
- 26:31Speaker 2: And now they've launched a new feature. It's called Squads,
- 26:35Speaker 2: a group chat where you can see what everyone is
- 26:38Speaker 2: trading on.
- 26:39Speaker 1: So download the Polymarket app today and use the promo
- 26:42Speaker 1: code Sherman when you sign up. That's S-H-E-R-M-A-N to get
- 26:49Speaker 1: $ 25 free after you deposit just $ 10. My top three
- 26:54Speaker 1: rules for the football season, know your team, know the schedule,
- 26:57Speaker 1: and don't overpay to watch the games.

- 27:49Speaker 2: that works for you. All right, Richard, this segment is
- 27:53Speaker 2: brought to you by Sling TV, and it's called Rule Breakers.
- 27:57Speaker 2: Who is a cornerback in the past? who you would
- 28:00Speaker 2: call a rule breaker. And I'm not talking about you.
- 28:03Speaker 2: I'm not talking about the six foot three, you know, guy,
- 28:06Speaker 2: the wide receiver convert, you know, way too tall to
- 28:09Speaker 2: play the position that jammed the wide receiver at the
- 28:12Speaker 2: line of scrimmage. I'm talking about someone other than you.
- 28:15Speaker 2: Who is the rule breaker that you looked up to
- 28:17Speaker 2: as a cornerback in the league?
- 28:19Speaker 1: Well, you got to go with a guy like Champ Bailey,
- 28:21Speaker 1: a guy who played great coverage, just an incredible athlete,
- 28:25Speaker 1: played both sides in college at Georgia. A guy that
- 28:29Speaker 1: can make plays, In the air, over 50 interceptions in
- 28:33Speaker 1: his career. PBUs, ran the routes for receivers. Just an
- 28:37Speaker 1: incredibly athletic, but also incredibly cerebral player. He's a Hall
- 28:43Speaker 1: of Famer. Everybody knows who Champ Bailey is. One of
- 28:45Speaker 1: the best corners to ever play in the National Football League.
- 28:48Speaker 1: And a guy that's definitely a rule breaker.
- 28:51Speaker 2: Check out Sling's Day Pass subscription and get instant access
- 28:55Speaker 2: to 24 hours of live TV starting at just $ 4. 99.
- 29:00Speaker 2: Drop who you think is the best rule breaker in
- 29:03Speaker 2: this one in the comments and watch the game on Sling.
- 29:08Speaker 2: And we saw a wild one in Philly. I know, Richard,
- 29:12Speaker 2: the NFC West fan base all wanted to see Philly
- 29:15Speaker 2: come out on top in this one. Philly led 20-10
- 29:18Speaker 2: at half, looked like they were in control. And then
- 29:21Speaker 2: Matthew Stafford leaned on Ole Reliable, Puka Nakua. Richard, what
- 29:26Speaker 2: happened in this game? How did Philly blow it?
- 29:29Speaker 1: Philly blew it the same way they almost always blow it.
- 29:32Speaker 1: They've had games this season where they struggled offensively, especially
- 29:36Speaker 1: in the third quarter. In the second half, they're one
- 29:38Speaker 1: of the worst second half offenses in the National Football League.
- 29:41Speaker 1: And Jalen Hurts struggled mightily in this game. He only
- 29:44Speaker 1: had 88 yards passing, or 93 yards passing on 27 attempts.
- 29:51Speaker 1: That's abysmal. Obviously, they lost Saquon Barkley early in the
- 29:56Speaker 1: game to a hamstring injury, but they went And I
- 30:02Speaker 1: want to get this right, Mitchell, because this was a struggle.
- 30:04Speaker 1: They went 0-for-12 on third down. 0-for-12. That's the story
- 30:09Speaker 1: of the game. Their defense battled against a really good
- 30:12Speaker 1: Rams offense. Matthew Stafford, you know, wasn't as sharp as
- 30:15Speaker 1: he usually is. Missed some throws, threw two interceptions, won
- 30:18Speaker 1: the Cooper-Dejean. There was some questionable officiating. There was a
- 30:26Speaker 1: pass interference call on Trent McDuffie late. in the second half,
- 30:30Speaker 1: right before the half, that allowed Philly to set up
- 30:33Speaker 1: their second score to Cooper, and the first score to Cooper,
- 30:38Speaker 1: I thought was going to get intercepted. Quentin Lake was
- 30:41Speaker 1: right there, but he was backing up into the end zone.
- 30:45Speaker 1: I mean, it's probably going to be one of the
- 30:47Speaker 1: highlights of this week. The pass tips off his hands,
- 30:51Speaker 1: into Cooper's hands, highlight touchdown. The second pass was much easier.
- 30:56Speaker 1: Cooper was wide open in the end zone, touchdown there,
- 30:58Speaker 1: but I'm not sure they should have even been there
- 31:01Speaker 1: because of the penalty call. McDuffie was kind of phantom.
- 31:04Speaker 1: McDuffie's hand kind of got caught in the jersey or something,
- 31:09Speaker 1: in Dontavian Wicks' jersey. As they were running, they're both
- 31:13Speaker 1: looking for the ball. I thought it was a no call,
- 31:14Speaker 1: but they gave it to Philly, and that's what allowed
- 31:17Speaker 1: them to have the 10-point first half lead. In the
- 31:20Speaker 1: second half, they did not score a point. They did
- 31:22Speaker 1: not score one point. And, I mean, the Rams battled
- 31:27Speaker 1: after missing– A 40-yard field goal in the first half.
- 31:30Speaker 1: You know, they were trying to battle. They were finding
- 31:32Speaker 1: their rhythm in the fourth quarter. When they need to
- 31:35Speaker 1: have it, Puka Nakua showed up in a big way.
- 31:37Speaker 1: Kyron Williams showed up in a big way. Stafford on
- 31:40Speaker 1: the last drive. He's the guy you want with the
- 31:41Speaker 1: ball in his hands and playmakers all around the field.
- 31:44Speaker 1: Stafford pushed the ball down the field. Had a 32-yard
- 31:48Speaker 1: deep shot to Puka Nakua earlier in the quarter. But he...
- 31:52Speaker 1: He's the reason they were able to win this game.
- 31:54Speaker 1: When they needed to have it, he was really good.
- 31:56Speaker 1: He ended the game 32 of 51 for 316, but
- 31:59Speaker 1: no touchdown passes. Puka Nakua, 9 for 125, but Kyron Williams,
- 32:05Speaker 1: his 16 carries for 80 yards, just a constant force,
- 32:08Speaker 1: 10 catches for 66 yards. He continued to kind of
- 32:12Speaker 1: steady the ship throughout the game and keep hope alive
- 32:15Speaker 1: for them, and I just, I really, if you're Philadelphia,
- 32:19Speaker 1: I don't have really great answers for you. You know,
- 32:21Speaker 1: your quarterback didn't play well. Your superstar running back is injured.
- 32:26Speaker 1: Your defense battled, kept you in the game, but your
- 32:28Speaker 1: superstar corner, Quinion Mitchell, is out now with an injury.
- 32:32Speaker 1: Cooper Dejean went out throughout the game. He kind of
- 32:35Speaker 1: got banged up in this game. And if you're watching
- 32:38Speaker 1: this offense, you really, I mean, outside of the quarterback,
- 32:40Speaker 1: and I know Philadelphia fans don't want to hear that.
- 32:42Speaker 1: You don't want to hear negative criticism to the quarterback,
- 32:44Speaker 1: but he did not play well. And It's not all
- 32:48Speaker 1: Jalen Hurts' fault, but after so many offensive coordinators, after
- 32:54Speaker 1: so many changes offensively, and trying to continue to find
- 33:00Speaker 1: a way to tailor this offense to Jalen Hurts, I
- 33:02Speaker 1: know he's won a Super Bowl. I know he's gone
- 33:04Speaker 1: to another Super Bowl. He has had playoff success. He
- 33:07Speaker 1: is a great player, but we have to admit he
- 33:09Speaker 1: is struggling right now. He is struggling, and for whatever
- 33:12Speaker 1: the case may be, for whatever reasons, Maybe you say
- 33:16Speaker 1: he doesn't have the playmaking on the outside. Maybe he
- 33:18Speaker 1: doesn't have a great enough run game. Maybe the offensive
- 33:20Speaker 1: line isn't playing well. This was one of his worst games.
- 33:23Speaker 1: This is one of his worst games. He was unproductive.
- 33:26Speaker 1: He just looked like he didn't have any answers. Looked
- 33:29Speaker 1: skittish in the pocket. I thought Philly was still going
- 33:33Speaker 1: to find a way to win this game because of
- 33:34Speaker 1: the way their defense was playing. But I mean, after
- 33:38Speaker 1: a while, a defense wears down. A defense wears down,
- 33:40Speaker 1: and a quarterback like Matthew Stafford is going to find
- 33:42Speaker 1: a way, and he did. They won this game. I
- 33:44Speaker 1: had the Rams winning this game before the game started.
- 33:48Speaker 1: I didn't know it would be in this fashion, Mitchell.
- 33:50Speaker 2: Richard, it's wild to see. I mean, the Philadelphia Eagles,
- 33:53Speaker 2: they're 2-2 on the season, but they could easily be 0-4.
- 33:56Speaker 2: I mean, they struggled against Washington in the opener. They
- 33:59Speaker 2: narrowly escaped the Tennessee Titans team that's been abysmal all season.
- 34:04Speaker 2: And then they got absolutely boat raced by the Chicago Bears.
- 34:06Speaker 2: And then this game, up 20-10 at the half, up
- 34:09Speaker 2: 20-10 at the end of the third quarter. Sean McVay
- 34:13Speaker 2: huddles his offense on the sideline and has what looks
- 34:16Speaker 2: like a pretty impactful conversation with them. Richard, what do
- 34:19Speaker 2: you think McVay was telling his offense in that moment,
- 34:22Speaker 2: seeing their struggles leading up to that point?
- 34:26Speaker 1: We only need one drive. We need one drive. This
- 34:29Speaker 1: is a drive we have to have. It doesn't matter
- 34:32Speaker 1: how the rest of the game went. We need this one.
- 34:34Speaker 1: We need to be great right now. And I'm sure
- 34:36Speaker 1: some version of that is what he told his offense.
- 34:39Speaker 1: And I'm sure Matthew Stafford kept his offense calm and said, hey,
- 34:42Speaker 1: we're in control right now. We can win this game.
- 34:44Speaker 1: We just, hey, just trust me. Keep me safe. Keep
- 34:47Speaker 1: me protected. Receivers catch the football. Kyron run it well.
- 34:50Speaker 1: And let's get out of here with a win. And
- 34:52Speaker 1: that's why you saw him ecstatic, jumping for joy on
- 34:54Speaker 1: the sideline. Because it's great when your team battles all day.
- 34:57Speaker 1: They're down the whole game. And then they respond the
- 35:01Speaker 1: last drive of the fourth quarter. You come away with
- 35:04Speaker 1: a win. And you're looking one and three in the
- 35:07Speaker 1: eye before then. You're looking one and three in the face.
- 35:11Speaker 1: With the trip to, with the trip, with the game
- 35:14Speaker 1: against the Buffalo Bills coming up in the next week. So,
- 35:17Speaker 1: I mean, get one and three. With Buffalo on the schedule,
- 35:21Speaker 1: that's not where you want to be. And so I'm
- 35:22Speaker 1: sure Sean McVay is incredibly ecstatic this week. They got
- 35:27Speaker 1: a chance to go into this game with some momentum,
- 35:30Speaker 1: with some confidence, a great last drive. Puka Nakua worked
- 35:34Speaker 1: himself back into the lineup. Matthew Stafford gained some confidence
- 35:38Speaker 1: and momentum on that last drive, and I think they
- 35:41Speaker 1: feel really good.
- 35:41Speaker 2: And as for Philly, they travel to Jacksonville, a team
- 35:44Speaker 2: that's red hot as well. They could be off to
- 35:46Speaker 2: a 2-3 start here, Richard. That's something to keep our
- 35:48Speaker 2: eyes on. I didn't see Philly struggling this much. I
- 35:51Speaker 2: expected them to struggle without A.J. Brown, but this much,
- 35:55Speaker 2: this is a bit of a surprise this early in
- 35:56Speaker 2: the season. Let's take it to another thriller. The Houston Texans,
- 36:01Speaker 2: in desperate need of a win after starting 0-3 on
- 36:03Speaker 2: the season, got off to a really hot start against
- 36:06Speaker 2: the Dallas Cowboys. Nico Collins was involved early. They jumped
- 36:09Speaker 2: out to a 16-6 lead. We're getting crafty offensively, and
- 36:13Speaker 2: it looked like the C.J. Stroud of old. And then
- 36:16Speaker 2: this vaunted defense that we've been hailing all offseason Struggles.
- 36:20Speaker 2: Kamari Lassiter with two big holding penalties. And C.D.
- 36:24Speaker 1: Lamb.
- 36:24Speaker 2: I mean, you want to talk about a day. This
- 36:27Speaker 2: is the definition of a day. 17 receptions for 100
- 36:30Speaker 2: and however many yards. 189 yards, Richard, and a touchdown.
- 36:35Speaker 2: I mean, when Dallas gets these weapons involved, this offense
- 36:39Speaker 2: can become very tough to stop. How did the Cowboys
- 36:42Speaker 2: come out with a win this game, trailing early in
- 36:44Speaker 2: this one, Richard?
- 36:47Speaker 1: This was a dogfight. They struggled. Both teams kind of
- 36:51Speaker 1: struggled a little bit offensively in the first half, but
- 36:53Speaker 1: the second half they figured it out. Dallas comes out
- 36:55Speaker 1: in the second half, scores on their first possession. Javante Williams,
- 37:00Speaker 1: 19 carries for only 62 yards, but three touchdowns on
- 37:03Speaker 1: the day. He was critical in the red zone. He
- 37:06Speaker 1: was a guy making sure that they left the red
- 37:08Speaker 1: zone with seven points each and every time. Brandon Aubrey.
- 37:14Speaker 1: I won't even say he struggled. They attempted two 60-plus
- 37:17Speaker 1: yard field goals, one 65-yarder that he missed and another
- 37:20Speaker 1: 62-yarder that got tipped at the line of scrimmage. He
- 37:23Speaker 1: made a 50-yarder. I don't know what's going on in
- 37:26Speaker 1: the NFL anymore. I mean, 60-yarders used to be, I mean,
- 37:29Speaker 1: not even thought of. For a team to attempt two
- 37:31Speaker 1: of them in the same game is just, I mean,
- 37:34Speaker 1: it's blowing my mind right now. And there were multiple 60-yarders,
- 37:37Speaker 1: 60-plus yarders attempted in other games and made. I think
- 37:41Speaker 1: there was a 64-yarder in the Baltimore game. There was
- 37:45Speaker 1: a 60-yarder in the Arizona game. It's just the game
- 37:48Speaker 1: is changing, obviously. But you got to give a lot
- 37:50Speaker 1: of credit to C.D. Lamb and Dak Prescott for just
- 37:54Speaker 1: staying the course. When taking what the defense could give them,
- 37:58Speaker 1: obviously this Houston Texans defense isn't playing as well as
- 38:02Speaker 1: they've played in previous years. And Kamari Lassiter, and I knew,
- 38:07Speaker 1: I can't say I knew because you can't predict anything
- 38:09Speaker 1: in the National Football League. But I was concerned that
- 38:13Speaker 1: after that play in Buffalo, when he got that, when
- 38:18Speaker 1: he dropped that interception, Mitchell, it's been downhill since then.
- 38:21Speaker 1: He dropped the interception that could have sealed the game
- 38:24Speaker 1: and beat the Buffalo Bills. I mean, theoretically, there was
- 38:27Speaker 1: still time left on the clock, but that would have
- 38:29Speaker 1: been a critical play. And then gave up the touchdown
- 38:32Speaker 1: the next play, Mitchell, it's a downward spiral, and It
- 38:37Speaker 1: looks like the Dallas Cowboys studied that tape. They attacked
- 38:39Speaker 1: him early and often in the red zone, in the
- 38:42Speaker 1: end zone, multiple penalties on third down. You know, the
- 38:46Speaker 1: defense gets stops. They're in the right position. He gets
- 38:49Speaker 1: a holding call on two third downs from inside the five.
- 38:55Speaker 1: That's tough to recover from. He battled his butt off,
- 38:57Speaker 1: gave up a long pass to to George Pickens on
- 39:03Speaker 1: a post route where he probably should have just came
- 39:05Speaker 1: over and batted. It looked like he tried to make
- 39:07Speaker 1: the catch, ended up catching George Pickens. C.D. Lamb kind
- 39:11Speaker 1: of attacked him throughout the day, whether it was short
- 39:13Speaker 1: or long passes. And I think sometimes that gets your confidence,
- 39:19Speaker 1: and that was a big part of that. I mean,
- 39:21Speaker 1: not that C.D. Lamb didn't attack everybody, and their whole
- 39:25Speaker 1: secondary kind of had a rough day. um the defense
- 39:29Speaker 1: you know will anderson and daniel hunter they got some
- 39:32Speaker 1: pressure they had some sacks in the game they had
- 39:34Speaker 1: three sacks on the day uh total but again it's
- 39:37Speaker 1: just not looking the way it did before and they're
- 39:40Speaker 1: owing for to start the season they've been in just
- 39:42Speaker 1: about all of these games but almost isn't good enough
- 39:46Speaker 1: in this national football league And they started the season
- 39:48Speaker 1: last year 0-3. They start this season 0-4. You're putting
- 39:52Speaker 1: yourself in a hole that, I mean, it takes a
- 39:54Speaker 1: miracle to dig yourself out of. And thankfully, they were
- 39:57Speaker 1: able to do it last year. I'm not sure they're
- 39:59Speaker 1: going to be able to repeat that. C.J. Shroud actually
- 40:02Speaker 1: played a really good game. I don't think this one
- 40:05Speaker 1: is on C.J. Shroud. I think Nico Collins is starting
- 40:07Speaker 1: to look like his old self. You know, he spread
- 40:11Speaker 1: the ball around. They were explosive offensively. David Montgomery. There
- 40:16Speaker 1: was a play, third and 14, late in this game
- 40:19Speaker 1: when Houston went up and took the lead 30-27 where
- 40:27Speaker 1: I thought that was the game. I thought Houston had
- 40:30Speaker 1: won that game. A hook and ladder. The same one
- 40:32Speaker 1: Kyle Shanahan and San Francisco 49ers ran earlier this last week.
- 40:38Speaker 1: On third and 14, critical play. Tight end catches it,
- 40:44Speaker 1: pitches it to David Montgomery. He gets the first down.
- 40:46Speaker 1: They score on the next play. I thought that sealed
- 40:48Speaker 1: the game. Honestly, I'm sure everybody on that sideline felt like, hey,
- 40:52Speaker 1: that won them the game. But Dak Prescott drove these
- 40:55Speaker 1: boys down the field, connected with CeeDee Lamb in the
- 40:58Speaker 1: end zone for his first touchdown of the game. 17
- 41:01Speaker 1: catches on 21 targets. It's just incredible. You got to
- 41:04Speaker 1: give them a lot of credit. Dallas Cowboys. Have Tampa
- 41:08Speaker 1: Bay Buccaneers next. I think that's a game they can win.
- 41:10Speaker 1: They're playing an undrafted rookie quarterback. It doesn't look like
- 41:13Speaker 1: Baker Mayfield will be back anytime soon. The Houston Texans
- 41:17Speaker 1: play the Tennessee Titans, who actually battled against the Baltimore Ravens.
- 41:22Speaker 1: They lost that game 24-18, but they put up a fight.
- 41:26Speaker 1: And the Houston Texans 0-4. I mean, you can only
- 41:30Speaker 1: go up from here, but wow.
- 41:31Speaker 2: Wow.
- 41:36Speaker 1: Wow, just wow.
- 41:38Speaker 2: Is this the biggest shocker for you of the season
- 41:40Speaker 2: thus far, this 0-4 start by Houston?
- 41:44Speaker 1: Yes, this is the biggest shock by far. And I
- 41:48Speaker 1: think we were worried that maybe C.J. Stroud had lost
- 41:51Speaker 1: his magic. Maybe he wouldn't come back the same after
- 41:54Speaker 1: he struggled in that playoff game against the New England Patriots.
- 41:56Speaker 1: He threw those four interceptions. He looked just discombobulated. We wondered, hey,
- 42:01Speaker 1: how would he respond this season? I think he's responded well.
- 42:04Speaker 1: we kind of assumed and presumed that this defense would
- 42:07Speaker 1: show up in the way that they've always shown up.
- 42:09Speaker 1: They had the same all pros. Derek Stingley, Kamari Lassiter,
- 42:14Speaker 1: Kalen Bullock. Like, they have the guys. They added Reed Blankenship.
- 42:18Speaker 1: You thought, hey man, this is a team that could
- 42:21Speaker 1: be one of the best defenses in the National Football
- 42:23Speaker 1: League once again. And if their offense, Nico Collins and
- 42:26Speaker 1: his playmakers play like they did, David Montgomery, their run game,
- 42:30Speaker 1: kind of wake up. They could be one of the
- 42:32Speaker 1: top teams in the AFC, but Looking at 0-4, I mean,
- 42:37Speaker 1: I can't imagine there's anything but tremendous disappointment and concern.
- 42:41Speaker 1: And you've got to look at the defensive side for
- 42:45Speaker 1: a lot of those struggles. Obviously, the offense hasn't been perfect.
- 42:47Speaker 1: They've had their games where they struggled, but this wasn't
- 42:49Speaker 1: one of them.
- 42:50Speaker 2: Let's go to Buffalo, Richard. The Red Hot Buffalo Bills
- 42:53Speaker 2: are hosting the sputtering New England Patriots. It looked like
- 42:58Speaker 2: they had a bit of a Super Bowl hangover to
- 43:00Speaker 2: start this season. Enter week four, this team was eyeing
- 43:06Speaker 2: one and three to start the season. They pull off
- 43:08Speaker 2: a big win, and I'm going to call it an
- 43:10Speaker 2: upset because it is one. A big win on the
- 43:13Speaker 2: road against division rival the Buffalo Bills. Drake May got
- 43:17Speaker 2: them started early, but again, the turnovers are a big
- 43:20Speaker 2: deal here. Throwing an interception, losing a fumble. But Drake
- 43:24Speaker 2: May ultimately rose to the occasion and got Romeo Dobbs
- 43:28Speaker 2: involved for two touchdowns. How impressed are you with New
- 43:31Speaker 2: England's ability to rally and overcome this tough 1-2 start
- 43:35Speaker 2: and take care of business on the road in Buffalo today?
- 43:38Speaker 1: This game, I expected Drake May to play better. You
- 43:41Speaker 1: hoped that Drake May would turn it around, but you
- 43:43Speaker 1: definitely didn't expect him to go in and beat Buffalo
- 43:47Speaker 1: in the way that they did. They held Josh Allen
- 43:50Speaker 1: in check majority of this game. I don't know what's
- 43:54Speaker 1: going on with Josh Allen. It just doesn't seem he's
- 43:56Speaker 1: more hesitant to take off and run. He's not running
- 44:00Speaker 1: as often as he would before. He only carried the
- 44:02Speaker 1: ball five times for four yards in this game. And
- 44:05Speaker 1: it just seems like even when there's a lane there
- 44:08Speaker 1: and you expect Josh Allen to run, he's not taking off.
- 44:11Speaker 1: And I don't know if there's injury. I don't know
- 44:13Speaker 1: if there's been a conversation with Joe Brady about just
- 44:16Speaker 1: taking care of your body and just getting through the season.
- 44:19Speaker 1: But you can clearly see it when he's out there.
- 44:23Speaker 1: Plays where you would expect Josh Allen to say, hey,
- 44:26Speaker 1: Pull it down and run. He's trying to get the
- 44:28Speaker 1: ball out, whether it's complete or not. James Cook had
- 44:31Speaker 1: a solid game. Only 12 carries in this game, which
- 44:34Speaker 1: was kind of concerning because he was having success on
- 44:36Speaker 1: the ground. 75 yards, one touchdown. But Drake May. Drake
- 44:41Speaker 1: May started this game and fumbled the ball. The pocket
- 44:45Speaker 1: collapsed around him. And you start to think, ah, another
- 44:48Speaker 1: bad Drake May game. Like, the saga continues. They're going
- 44:54Speaker 1: to keep beating him up about this. Then... The Patriots defense,
- 44:58Speaker 1: they're battling. They take the ball from Buffalo near the
- 45:03Speaker 1: end of the half. And you're like, okay, Drake May
- 45:05Speaker 1: got a chance to get some momentum, drive down the field,
- 45:08Speaker 1: maybe get some points before the half. Then he throws
- 45:10Speaker 1: it to Romeo Dobbs, off his hands, into the air.
- 45:15Speaker 1: Buffalo picks it off, and they get the field goal
- 45:17Speaker 1: before half. And that was a microcosm of how this
- 45:21Speaker 1: game would go. Back and forth and back and forth
- 45:24Speaker 1: and back and forth the whole game, Mitchell. The finish
- 45:26Speaker 1: was wild. Buffalo took a 26-21 lead on Josh Allen's
- 45:32Speaker 1: 34-yard strike to Keion Coleman in the back of the
- 45:34Speaker 1: end zone. And you thought, hey, that's it. Buffalo's closed
- 45:39Speaker 1: the door. They're going to go for two. Kind of
- 45:42Speaker 1: solidify this. They missed the two-point conversion. And then you're like, okay,
- 45:47Speaker 1: New England has a chance. But can Drake May, with
- 45:50Speaker 1: how he's played all season, really drive this team down
- 45:52Speaker 1: the field and get a touchdown? And Drake May did it.
- 45:57Speaker 1: He played well this whole game, even with the turnovers.
- 46:00Speaker 1: He played well. He took the yards that were there
- 46:03Speaker 1: with his legs. He was accurate with a lot of
- 46:06Speaker 1: his passes through the air. He had two turnovers in
- 46:11Speaker 1: the game, but you would argue the interception could have
- 46:14Speaker 1: been a complete pass. Romeo Dobbs made up for his
- 46:19Speaker 1: dropped pass that led to an interception with a touchdown
- 46:22Speaker 1: in the game, but They were 3-for-3 in the red zone,
- 46:26Speaker 1: and that's the reason they won this game. Drake May,
- 46:28Speaker 1: when they needed to have it, when they had to
- 46:29Speaker 1: have it, made enough plays and got them down the
- 46:32Speaker 1: field and scored. And scored a touchdown and got the
- 46:35Speaker 1: two-point conversion. And again, in a play where he could
- 46:37Speaker 1: have used his legs, things were kind of chaotic on
- 46:40Speaker 1: that play on the two-point conversion. Turned around, hit the
- 46:43Speaker 1: running back in the flats for the two-point conversion. There
- 46:47Speaker 1: were so many plays and so many little things he
- 46:51Speaker 1: did throughout the game that were so impressive. where you're like, okay,
- 46:55Speaker 1: that's the guy who was second in the MVP voting
- 46:57Speaker 1: last year. That's the guy who was an All-Pro last year.
- 47:00Speaker 1: And maybe New England can find some solace and some
- 47:04Speaker 1: peace in that maybe he just had a rough start.
- 47:06Speaker 1: Maybe he just had a rough start to the season.
- 47:08Speaker 1: And he is the guy that they think he is.
- 47:10Speaker 2: Let's go back to Buffalo here real quick, Richard. The
- 47:14Speaker 2: first two weeks of the season, they just looked absolutely dominant,
- 47:18Speaker 2: especially offensively. And then these last two weeks, they look beatable.
- 47:22Speaker 2: And obviously they got beat this week, but they should
- 47:25Speaker 2: have lost last week as well. The Chargers turned them
- 47:28Speaker 2: over five times and really blew the game that they
- 47:31Speaker 2: easily could have won. With all that being said, what
- 47:34Speaker 2: do you think has changed over these last two weeks
- 47:36Speaker 2: to affect them offensively? Because they just don't look like
- 47:40Speaker 2: the same team.
- 47:43Speaker 1: I don't know. I think it has to do with
- 47:46Speaker 1: Josh Allen not using his legs as often. I think
- 47:49Speaker 1: without that threat, and the defenses are starting to see
- 47:51Speaker 1: it on tape, they have to be seeing what I'm seeing,
- 47:54Speaker 1: that he will not take off. That takes away a
- 47:56Speaker 1: lot of your stress of what Josh Allen can do.
- 47:59Speaker 1: If you can leave guys in the coverage, you can
- 48:01Speaker 1: play man-to-man coverage because you're not expecting Josh Allen to
- 48:04Speaker 1: take off with the football. That changes the way you
- 48:08Speaker 1: play him. That changes the way you guard this team.
- 48:12Speaker 1: And I obviously have said this in the past, I
- 48:15Speaker 1: don't think their defense is good enough. I think that's
- 48:18Speaker 1: going to be the thing That takes this team down.
- 48:20Speaker 1: I think that's going to be their Achilles heel. Their
- 48:22Speaker 1: defense is not good enough to win a Super Bowl
- 48:25Speaker 1: as they're currently constructed. And I think that's what happened
- 48:28Speaker 1: late in the game. Their corners are getting attacked no
- 48:30Speaker 1: matter who it is. Obviously, they're without Benford. But even
- 48:33Speaker 1: when Benford was playing, they were attacking him. So it's
- 48:36Speaker 1: not like, hey, they got these world beaters on the
- 48:40Speaker 1: outside that can get it done. And that's what ends
- 48:43Speaker 1: up being the difference in these games. when Josh Allen
- 48:47Speaker 1: can't just take over, when Josh Allen can't just save
- 48:50Speaker 1: the day. And he had the ball with almost two
- 48:54Speaker 1: minutes to go and a chance to win the game.
- 48:56Speaker 1: He threw an interception. You know, you got to also
- 48:59Speaker 1: acknowledge that. Josh Allen had a chance to win, but
- 49:02Speaker 1: it can't just keep being, hey, let's just survive, survive, survive,
- 49:06Speaker 1: give Josh the ball with two minutes to go and
- 49:09Speaker 1: expect him to win the game. Like, it has to
- 49:10Speaker 1: be a team effort. It has to be a complete effort.
- 49:13Speaker 1: And with the defense, they're going to have to carry
- 49:14Speaker 1: their weight and they're going to have to I talked
- 49:17Speaker 1: about this when we had their game in Buffalo, like
- 49:20Speaker 1: they have to get that last stop. They have to
- 49:22Speaker 1: give them at least one stop. And when he needed
- 49:25Speaker 1: them to get a stop, when he needed them to
- 49:27Speaker 1: stop Drake May in this offense to win the game,
- 49:29Speaker 1: when he gave them a lead, they couldn't get it done.
- 49:32Speaker 1: And that is the story of the game.
- 49:33Speaker 2: Sure.
- 49:34Speaker 1: Josh Allen could have had a chance to win it.
- 49:35Speaker 1: He could have drove down the field and, and, and,
- 49:38Speaker 1: Hero balled another win for the Buffalo Bills, but that's
- 49:43Speaker 1: not a sustainable way to win football games. That's not
- 49:46Speaker 1: a sustainable way to win a Super Bowl. You got
- 49:50Speaker 1: to have balance. You got to have both sides clicking,
- 49:52Speaker 1: and when a defense can't get a stop when you
- 49:54Speaker 1: need it, it's going to be hard.
- 49:57Speaker 2: Let's go on to Cincinnati. Boy, was I wrong. And
- 50:01Speaker 2: I apologize, man. I had this team earmarked as a
- 50:04Speaker 2: surprise story of the season. And after starting 2-0, Cincinnati
- 50:08Speaker 2: looked to be proving me right. But since then, they've
- 50:10Speaker 2: been 0-2, even things out to 500. And the Jacksonville
- 50:14Speaker 2: Jaguars continue to scorch onwards. This team looks like a
- 50:18Speaker 2: team that could absolutely contend in the AFC. They go
- 50:21Speaker 2: on the road, take care of business against the Bengals, 22-17.
- 50:25Speaker 2: All of that with Joe Burrow. Richard, if I were
- 50:28Speaker 2: to tell you that Joe Burrow would have 287 passing
- 50:32Speaker 2: yards in the second half, and they lose this game.
- 50:36Speaker 2: I mean, it's wild to me that this team that was,
- 50:41Speaker 2: we said it all leading up to the season, their
- 50:45Speaker 2: defense has to improve. Their defense has to improve. Well,
- 50:47Speaker 2: here they are. Their defense did improve. It only gave
- 50:50Speaker 2: up 22 points to a Jaguars team that's been pretty
- 50:53Speaker 2: hot offensively, and yet Joe Burrow, and this Bengals offense
- 50:57Speaker 2: cannot get things done. We saw Jamar Chase go out
- 51:00Speaker 2: with the injury, but T. Higgins is still there. Richard,
- 51:04Speaker 2: how does this happen with Cincinnati? How did they have
- 51:07Speaker 2: this good of a statistical offensive game but only put
- 51:10Speaker 2: up 17 points?
- 51:13Speaker 1: Mitchell, they went two for four in the red zone.
- 51:17Speaker 1: That's an issue, but they lost Jamar Chase early in
- 51:19Speaker 1: this game to a concussion. and on a play where
- 51:22Speaker 1: they pulled his face mask, you thought, oh man, they're
- 51:25Speaker 1: going to get a first down, and then he took
- 51:27Speaker 1: a major hit, hit his head against the ground, and
- 51:30Speaker 1: that was a big change. Obviously, Jamar Chase is the
- 51:34Speaker 1: biggest part of their offense. T. Higgins still had some success.
- 51:37Speaker 1: He had 11 for 157, no touchdowns, but the two
- 51:42Speaker 1: turnovers that he had, this Jacksonville Jaguars defense is really
- 51:47Speaker 1: good at taking the football away. They're incredibly opportunistic, and
- 51:51Speaker 1: they were in this game. Jordan Lewis had one on
- 51:56Speaker 1: a tip Joe Burrow pass. It looked like somebody hit
- 51:59Speaker 1: his arm while he was throwing it, and Jordan Lewis
- 52:02Speaker 1: was in the right place at the right time. Our guy, Oluokun.
- 52:05Speaker 1: Oluokun always shows up, Mitchell. You're going to keep hearing
- 52:08Speaker 1: his name because he's the linchpin in this defense. He's
- 52:11Speaker 1: the guy that takes it over when they need to play,
- 52:14Speaker 1: when they need to turn over, when they need a sack.
- 52:17Speaker 1: But that front line, our guy, Eric Armstead, Friend of
- 52:21Speaker 1: the program, Mitchell. Friend of the program. Had a sack
- 52:24Speaker 1: in this game. I thought he had a sack and
- 52:27Speaker 1: a half, but it looked like they didn't give him
- 52:30Speaker 1: the other piece of that sack. But their defensive line
- 52:35Speaker 1: was putting pressure on Joe Burrow, but Joe Burrow was
- 52:37Speaker 1: incredibly productive. But you got to finish. You got to finish, Mitchell.
- 52:40Speaker 1: Some of those were empty yards. This game really didn't
- 52:44Speaker 1: have to be as close as it was. The Jacksonville
- 52:46Speaker 1: Jaguars were beating themselves in this game. Ten penalties missing.
- 52:50Speaker 1: in the first half. Two touchdowns called back. Two touchdowns
- 52:54Speaker 1: called back in this game. Tootin had a, I want
- 52:59Speaker 1: to say, 30, 40-yard run that was called back on
- 53:02Speaker 1: a Cam Little holding call that, I mean, it was obvious.
- 53:06Speaker 1: It was obvious. It was a real penalty. I can't
- 53:08Speaker 1: say they're getting cheated or these are bad calls, but
- 53:11Speaker 1: it was just undisciplined. This game didn't have to be
- 53:13Speaker 1: as close as it was, and obviously once Jamar Chase
- 53:16Speaker 1: went out, the Jacksonville Jaguars offense actually played solid besides
- 53:21Speaker 1: the penalties, besides the penalties, with those penalties, those are
- 53:25Speaker 1: the things that held them back from really breaking this
- 53:28Speaker 1: game open. Trevor Lawrence played really well. Brenton Strange came
- 53:31Speaker 1: through in clutch moments. He fumbled a ball. He fumbled
- 53:35Speaker 1: a ball trying to hurdle somebody, Mitchell. It's going to
- 53:36Speaker 1: be a highlight play of what not to do in
- 53:38Speaker 1: the National Football League. The ball pops out. I think
- 53:42Speaker 1: it was Jacoby Myers punches it out of bounds because
- 53:45Speaker 1: it was bouncing around. It looks like the Cincinnati Bengals
- 53:48Speaker 1: were about to have a huge play to turn this
- 53:51Speaker 1: game around, but he was able to punch it out.
- 53:53Speaker 1: A really smart play by him. But you got to
- 53:55Speaker 1: give this team credit. They're finding ways to win. Their
- 54:00Speaker 1: big-time players are showing up in big-time moments. I like
- 54:03Speaker 1: the way Travis Hunter played in this game. I don't
- 54:08Speaker 1: know who said he would be an all-pro DB in
- 54:10Speaker 1: the National Football League, Mitchell. I don't know who said it.
- 54:12Speaker 1: I don't know who said, just let him play DB.
- 54:14Speaker 1: because he has all the skills, he has all the measurables,
- 54:18Speaker 1: everything you need to be a really great DB in
- 54:20Speaker 1: the National Football League. And this game, he was tight
- 54:24Speaker 1: in coverage. I mean, he laid big hits on people.
- 54:27Speaker 1: They called a hitch, Mitchell, and I just saw him
- 54:29Speaker 1: drop his shoulder, and I was like, okay, he's been
- 54:31Speaker 1: in the weight room. He must have added five to
- 54:33Speaker 1: ten pounds, because he was very light in the ass
- 54:36Speaker 1: when he came out of Colorado, Mitchell. And so you
- 54:38Speaker 1: could see the difference in his play style, and obviously
- 54:41Speaker 1: their receiver room is packed. It's packed. You got Jacoby Myers.
- 54:45Speaker 1: You got Brian Thomas, who had a better game today.
- 54:47Speaker 1: You got Parker Washington. You got Brendan Strange. So there's
- 54:51Speaker 1: only one football. So I love that they're finally starting
- 54:54Speaker 1: to allow him to feel comfortable on defense. He's adding
- 54:58Speaker 1: his own element to that, especially against a receiving core
- 55:01Speaker 1: like the one they just faced. I really feel good
- 55:05Speaker 1: about the Jacksonville Jaguars, Mitchell. They're playing good football. Liam
- 55:08Speaker 1: Cohen has them going in the right direction. If they
- 55:10Speaker 1: can clean up those penalties, they're usually not As sloppy
- 55:13Speaker 1: as they were today, they're going to be tough to
- 55:16Speaker 1: deal with.
- 55:17Speaker 2: No question about it. They look like a team that
- 55:19Speaker 2: could represent the AFC in the Super Bowl. I truly
- 55:23Speaker 2: mean that. Just how they've been playing as a team. Richard,
- 55:26Speaker 2: you were highly critical about this team last year, the
- 55:30Speaker 2: year before that. You've been critical about Trevor Lawrence since
- 55:33Speaker 2: he's struggled in this league. And he hasn't lived up
- 55:35Speaker 2: to the first overall pick billing that he was. What
- 55:40Speaker 2: has changed ever since Liam Cohen was introduced as head coach?
- 55:44Speaker 2: Because it looks like the Jacksonville Jaguars has taken on
- 55:47Speaker 2: a new identity as a team. What has changed ever
- 55:50Speaker 2: since Liam Cohen stepped foot in that door as a
- 55:52Speaker 2: head coach for the Jacksonville Jaguars?
- 55:56Speaker 1: I don't think he's playing faster than his feet anymore.
- 55:59Speaker 1: I think there are answers built into the plays. I
- 56:02Speaker 1: don't think they're dependent on him just having a super
- 56:06Speaker 1: arm or making superstar plays all the time. Sometimes... They're
- 56:09Speaker 1: giving him layups, like, hey, just make the layups. And
- 56:12Speaker 1: when we need you to be pinpointed and we need
- 56:15Speaker 1: you to have all this arm talent and do these
- 56:17Speaker 1: spectacular things, you can, but that's not the way we're
- 56:20Speaker 1: going to decide this offense. We're not going to depend
- 56:22Speaker 1: on you making incredible throws and making out-of-this-world plays for
- 56:27Speaker 1: our offense to be productive. They gave him a run game.
- 56:30Speaker 1: They gave him a run game, a run game that
- 56:32Speaker 1: he can depend on. You can turn around and hand
- 56:33Speaker 1: it off, and he's been better. He's been better with
- 56:36Speaker 1: his decision-making. He's not forcing the ball down the field.
- 56:39Speaker 1: It doesn't seem like he feels a lot of pressure
- 56:41Speaker 1: on his shoulders. They're protecting him really well. That's what
- 56:45Speaker 1: it's coming down to. They put playmakers around him. I mean,
- 56:48Speaker 1: Parker Washington has developed into one of the best receivers
- 56:50Speaker 1: in the league. They gave Jacoby Myers a big deal
- 56:53Speaker 1: because of what he was doing last year, and he
- 56:55Speaker 1: still finds a way to make plays. Brian Thomas was
- 56:58Speaker 1: the guy. He was their number one guy a few
- 57:00Speaker 1: seasons ago. He's starting to find his stride again. Brendan
- 57:03Speaker 1: Strange is a good tight end, a good pass catcher
- 57:06Speaker 1: who can create mismatches with these linebackers. And when you
- 57:09Speaker 1: have all these mismatches, and Liam Cohen is designing plays where, hey,
- 57:14Speaker 1: there are answers in these plays. Trevor, you don't have to,
- 57:18Speaker 1: it's not going to be, hey, throw it up, and
- 57:20Speaker 1: this guy has to make a spectacular play, and you
- 57:22Speaker 1: have to thread it through a tight window all the time.
- 57:26Speaker 1: I'm going to make it so, hey, within the play,
- 57:28Speaker 1: there's going to be a guy open. I'm designing openings
- 57:30Speaker 1: in this offense because I know what they're playing, and
- 57:33Speaker 1: I'm a good play caller. And I think that that
- 57:35Speaker 1: marriage is starting to show some fruits. A solid wardrobe
- 57:39Speaker 1: really comes down to a few pieces that actually work
- 57:42Speaker 1: and hold up. That's why I've been rocking with Quince lately.
- 57:46Speaker 2: Same, Richard. You must be reading my mind. Quince is

- 58:31Speaker 2: Let's take it to the fourth quarter here on the
- 58:34Speaker 2: Richard Sherman Podcast. Richard, some games today. that I don't
- 58:37Speaker 2: know how many people are going to care about. But
- 58:39Speaker 2: let's start overseas. The Indianapolis Colts took down the Washington
- 58:43Speaker 2: Commanders with ease, 30-13. Daniel Jones, a relatively low-key stat
- 58:49Speaker 2: line with 143 passing yards. But Jonathan Taylor continues to
- 58:53Speaker 2: be the bell cow of this team, 95 rushing yards
- 58:55Speaker 2: and two touchdowns. Are the Indianapolis Colts back? After starting 0-2,
- 59:00Speaker 2: they're 2-0 in the last two weeks. Do you consider
- 59:03Speaker 2: them contenders for the playoffs this year, Richard?
- 59:07Speaker 1: I'm still not sure right now, Mitchell. Obviously, this Commander's
- 59:11Speaker 1: team was without their top two quarterbacks, so that has
- 59:14Speaker 1: a tremendous impact on this game. But you've got to understand,
- 59:19Speaker 1: Jonathan Taylor playing like this is a big deal. I
- 59:21Speaker 1: don't know if Daniel Jones is quite the Indiana Jones
- 59:25Speaker 1: that he was last season before the injury. Maybe he'll
- 59:27Speaker 1: get there eventually. Only 143 yards passing and one interception
- 59:32Speaker 1: on the game today. Not using his legs in a
- 59:34Speaker 1: way he did last season. So, again, that leaves me concerned.
- 59:38Speaker 1: But their defense, they had a takeaway in this game.
- 59:41Speaker 1: Two sacks in the game. Again, this is a commander's
- 59:44Speaker 1: team that's without their top two quarterbacks. Jaden Daniels was out.
- 59:48Speaker 1: And then you lose Mariota early in this game. I'm
- 59:51Speaker 1: not sure I'm ready to give them that quite yet.
- 59:54Speaker 1: But who knows? If they beat the Pittsburgh Steelers next week,
- 59:58Speaker 1: We'll start to have that conversation.
- 1:00:01Speaker 2: Fair enough. They just don't look the part right now.
- 1:00:04Speaker 2: I don't know, but Washington trotting out Athens Calacamanas and
- 1:00:09Speaker 2: throwing 186 on you. There's still questions out there for
- 1:00:12Speaker 2: the Indianapolis Colts, but hopefully after going 2-0 in the
- 1:00:15Speaker 2: last two games, they can get back to their winning ways.
- 1:00:19Speaker 2: This Green Bay Packers team, you saw firsthand in Thursday
- 1:00:22Speaker 2: Night Football, get absolutely destroyed by the Atlanta Falcons. They
- 1:00:26Speaker 2: take on the Tampa Bay Buccaneers this week in Tampa,
- 1:00:29Speaker 2: which sounds like a very challenging game until you realize
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: you're lining up against Jalen Daniels, the undrafted free agent
- 1:00:35Speaker 2: rookie out of Kansas. And this game was competitive. I
- 1:00:41Speaker 2: know we kind of sounded the alarm on Green Bay
- 1:00:43Speaker 2: after Thursday Night Football, but Does this win do anything
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: in your eyes to ease your concern about this team?
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: Well, I don't know if it eases my concern, but
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: you got to give their offensive line a lot of credit.
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: They got beat up really bad against the Atlanta Falcons,
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: and some of the things they put on tape were concerning,
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: and then you look in this game, and they gave
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: up no sacks. Jordan Love was kept relatively clean, and
- 1:01:09Speaker 1: he was effective when he was kept clean. He was
- 1:01:12Speaker 1: able to You know, pass the ball around the yard.
- 1:01:14Speaker 1: He was 22 of 30, 197, two touchdowns. But I
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: think that's the biggest point of focus for me is
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: that offensive line. They picked up a few guys out
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: of free agency. They picked up Lakin Tomlinson, a former
- 1:01:31Speaker 1: teammate of mine. I think he started in this game.
- 1:01:34Speaker 1: And a couple other guys, Mekhi Becton, just about everybody
- 1:01:38Speaker 1: who's ever– who's ever started meaningful games in the National
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: Football League, who was a free agent and played offensive line,
- 1:01:44Speaker 1: they picked up. And it made a difference. It made
- 1:01:46Speaker 1: a difference. Obviously, this Tampa Bay team is 0-4. They
- 1:01:49Speaker 1: were 0-3 coming into this game. They've struggled mightily. They're
- 1:01:52Speaker 1: starting an undrafted rookie, Jalen Daniels, not to be confused
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: with Jaden Daniels. And he struggled. He struggled, as you
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: would expect an undrafted rookie to start unless you're Brock Purdy. And...
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: I think they got a lot of questions to answer.
- 1:02:07Speaker 2: It wasn't undrafted, Richard. Brock Purdy was Mr. Irrelevant, my friend. Mitchell.
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: Mitchell. You got it. I get it. I get what
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: you're saying.
- 1:02:23Speaker 2: Continue. Continue.
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: We'll correct this. Brock Purdy was not undrafted. He was Mr. Irrelevant.
- 1:02:30Speaker 1: Just a hair off. Just a... You know, but.
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: This team is struggling. They're spiraling right now, and the
- 1:02:39Speaker 1: Tampa Bay Buccaneers have no real answers. Baker Mayfield doesn't
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: look like he's going to be available for the next
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: three to four weeks, potentially. He can't grip the football
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: right now. They're not scoring a lot of points. They
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: had some hope at the end of the game. They
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: brought the game to within three, but if you're them,
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: I just don't know where you find offense. I just
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: don't know where you find offense. The Packers, they found
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: some hope. Their defense is really got after it. There
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: was some concern. Obviously, you lose Edrin Cooper in this
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: game to what appeared to be an Achilles injury, a
- 1:03:16Speaker 1: guy who was having a very dominant game before that point.
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: I hate to hear that. There's so many injuries today,
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: so many injuries throughout the league right now, and major players.
- 1:03:28Speaker 1: So you really hope that he's– that it's not an Achilles.
- 1:03:33Speaker 1: You hope that it's not an Achilles injury. and that
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: Green Bay's defense continues to play well. But this Packers team,
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: I mean, it's still leaving a lot to be desired.
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: They won the football game, but they didn't really give
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: you a ton of confidence in any other capacity. They
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: scored 17 points. They gave up 14 to a Buccaneers
- 1:03:56Speaker 1: team that wasn't expected to do much. They got a
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: tough game against the Chicago Bears, but The Chicago Bears are,
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: is Caleb going to be back or not? That's going
- 1:04:05Speaker 1: to be a big conversation. But if their offensive line
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: plays like they did today, they'll be in a better position.
- 1:04:13Speaker 2: This team, the biggest thing that stood out for me
- 1:04:17Speaker 2: about this team is the running back situation. Caleb Johnson
- 1:04:21Speaker 2: and Marshawn Lloyd, despite the win, it's just unimpressive. Neither
- 1:04:25Speaker 2: one of them can be considered secure with the football
- 1:04:28Speaker 2: in their hands. Both fumbled today. I'm looking at, What
- 1:04:32Speaker 2: can they do? Is there a free agent out there
- 1:04:34Speaker 2: that they can plug and play that are better than
- 1:04:36Speaker 2: one of these two guys? Because that seems to be
- 1:04:37Speaker 2: what's really holding them back without Josh Jacobs there. Let's
- 1:04:41Speaker 2: take it on, and we'll stick in the NFC North here.
- 1:04:44Speaker 2: The Vikings, 4-0, take care of the Dolphins. Obviously, we
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: talked about it leading into this game. This is the
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: Brian Flores revenge game. There might be no other team
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: in the NFL that's talked about least than the Minnesota Vikings,
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: and this team is 4-0. Richard, you didn't even bother
- 1:05:00Speaker 2: to bring them up for your top five of the
- 1:05:02Speaker 2: power rankings last week when they were 3-0. Does this
- 1:05:06Speaker 2: win and improving to 4-0 do anything for you in
- 1:05:09Speaker 2: terms of bumping them up and putting them in the
- 1:05:11Speaker 2: top five of your power ranks?
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: Not really. And it's because they struggled with the team
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: with no wins. And, you know, there were some positives
- 1:05:20Speaker 1: you could take from it. Kyler Murray found some rhythm.
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: You know, he looked comfortable. And Kevin O'Connell's offense threw
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: the ball on time. Aaron Jones ran the ball well.
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: Their defense continued to take the football away and create sacks.
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: Miami's defense got their first four sacks of the season
- 1:05:36Speaker 1: this game, but that's, again, why there's a level of concern.
- 1:05:39Speaker 2: We'll talk about the Baltimore Ravens taking care of the
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: Tennessee Titans. No surprise there, but the Ravens got closer
- 1:05:47Speaker 2: at the end than a lot had thought if you
- 1:05:49Speaker 2: didn't watch this game. 24-18, Lamar Jackson goes out with
- 1:05:54Speaker 2: the injury. The offense sputters down late. Zay Flowers returns
- 1:05:58Speaker 2: from the hamstring injury. Eight receptions, 118 yards. He's the
- 1:06:01Speaker 2: storyline of this game. Certainly elevates that team offensively. Is
- 1:06:07Speaker 2: this season going to be any different for the Baltimore Ravens,
- 1:06:09Speaker 2: improving to 3-1? With what you've seen through four games,
- 1:06:13Speaker 2: do you view them as true contenders in the AFC?
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: Um... I think the NFC can go either way. I
- 1:06:22Speaker 1: like the way Lamar Jackson played in this game. He
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: had a couple drives where he was incredibly efficient. He
- 1:06:27Speaker 1: looked elite through the air, just looked in total command,
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: 144.2 passer rating. Then Snoop Huntley came in the game
- 1:06:35Speaker 1: in the second half because Lamar had an ankle injury,
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: it looked like, in the first half. And I don't
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: know if they were just being really safe with him
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: because they had such a big lead or if there's
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: something more serious going on. You hope it's nothing more serious.
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: They got a game against Atlanta. This team could potentially
- 1:06:50Speaker 1: be 4-1. Derrick Henry, 23 carries for 73 yards. Again,
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: still is doing it at a very high level deep
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: into his career. The Tennessee Titans still searching for answers.
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: Cam Ward, 24-31, 222 yards, one touchdown, one interception. A
- 1:07:06Speaker 1: better game for him. Carnell Tate's best game of the season,
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: nine receptions for 145 yards. But again, only two sacks
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: on the game. This team is still searching for their
- 1:07:19Speaker 1: first win. They looked better in this game, but that's
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: not enough.
- 1:07:25Speaker 2: And then finally, the New York Giants improved a 3-1
- 1:07:29Speaker 2: on the season with a win over the Cardinals, 36-24.
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: 3-1.
- 1:07:34Speaker 2: It's an impressive start for the New York Giants. It's
- 1:07:36Speaker 2: a very shame that Jackson Dart is out for this season.
- 1:07:40Speaker 2: Given the circumstances in New York, with Jameis Winston under
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: the helm, what is the ceiling for the New York
- 1:07:48Speaker 2: Giants this season?
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: I don't know. I don't know what to expect from
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: the New York Giants.
- 1:07:54Speaker 2: It's a good question, Richard. I've been thinking about it
- 1:07:56Speaker 2: all day, man. I was excited to hear your answer.
- 1:08:00Speaker 1: Yeah, their ceiling can be the basement or it can
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: be the penthouse, Mitchell. I don't know. It depends on
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: which day and which Jameis you get. If Jameis plays
- 1:08:08Speaker 1: like this, he was 18 of 29 for 250, three touchdowns.
- 1:08:11Speaker 1: But those two interceptions, Mitchell, that's the Jameis experience. that
- 1:08:15Speaker 1: you're going to get– he was sacked four times, but
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: he found a way to win. He found a way
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: to make enough plays at the end. Obviously, the New
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: York Jets defense, Deontay Banks with a pick six of
- 1:08:25Speaker 1: Jacoby Brissett near the goal line was the obvious difference
- 1:08:30Speaker 1: maker in this game. They played really well in the
- 1:08:32Speaker 1: red zone. Their defense had three interceptions, three takeaways on
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: the day and two sacks, but you just really never
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: know what you're going to get from this team. And
- 1:08:42Speaker 1: that could be a good or bad thing. They play
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: the Washington Commanders, and again, they're banged up right now
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: playing their third string quarterback. They could find a way
- 1:08:49Speaker 1: to be 4-1, which is, if you're a Giants fan,
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: is more than what you expected coming into this season.
- 1:08:55Speaker 2: And now, Richard, we got a new segment here sponsored
- 1:08:58Speaker 2: by DiGiorno. It's time. for.
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: Wait, wait, Mitchell, Mitchell, Mitchell. Marvin Harrison Jr. should be
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: traded to the Eagles. That's my hot take of the day.
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: I think the Eagles should trade for Marvin Harrison Jr.
- 1:09:08Speaker 2: There.
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: Devontae Smith has a hamstring injury. They don't have a
- 1:09:12Speaker 1: ton of depth at the receiver position. Dontavian Wicks has
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: been a really good addition to this team. But I
- 1:09:18Speaker 1: think Marvin Harrison Jr. needs a new start. He needs
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: a fresh setting. He needs a new team. And I
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: think they should go out. That's the kind of the
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: move that Howie makes. And I think they should. It's
- 1:09:31Speaker 1: a good call. I mean, Marvin Harrison Jr.
- 1:09:33Speaker 2: Has turned into the third option in Arizona behind Trey
- 1:09:36Speaker 2: McBride and Michael Wilson, Stanford Cardinal, go tree. He's emerged
- 1:09:41Speaker 2: and obviously they paid him coming into the season. They
- 1:09:44Speaker 2: like him, and for a team that is always going
- 1:09:47Speaker 2: to be airing out the ball, playing from behind in
- 1:09:50Speaker 2: most games, you would expect Marvin Harrison to at least
- 1:09:53Speaker 2: have some garbage time stats. He's got none of them.
- 1:09:56Speaker 2: We saw a nice over-the-shoulder fade, corner of the end
- 1:09:59Speaker 2: zone for a 12-yard touchdown, and that was it. It's
- 1:10:02Speaker 2: not enough. A change of scenery is necessary, and I
- 1:10:05Speaker 2: like your call. The Eagles, not a bad one. Richard,
- 1:10:09Speaker 2: it's time. It's time for Fresh from the Oven Takes,
- 1:10:13Speaker 2: brought to you by DiGiorno. Just like pizza fresh out
- 1:10:16Speaker 2: of the oven, these takes, they're hot, fresh, and ready
- 1:10:20Speaker 2: for Monday night. Let's break down the matchup. Richard, we
- 1:10:24Speaker 2: got the Atlanta Falcons at the New Orleans Saints. And
- 1:10:27Speaker 2: these are two teams, a lot of question marks. New
- 1:10:30Speaker 2: Orleans looked good despite being 1-2. Atlanta looked terrible. Then
- 1:10:35Speaker 2: Michael Penix came back and delivered greatness for them last
- 1:10:38Speaker 2: Thursday against the Green Bay Packers. What is your hottest
- 1:10:42Speaker 2: take about this Monday night matchup between the Falcons and Saints?
- 1:10:48Speaker 1: My hottest take? That's a good question. The Falcons will
- 1:10:54Speaker 1: have three sacks on the game. I got Xavier Watts
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: with an interception. I think the Atlanta Falcons win this
- 1:11:00Speaker 1: game because... I watched them against the Green Bay Packers,
- 1:11:04Speaker 1: but with my luck, they play the opposite of the
- 1:11:07Speaker 1: way they played against the Green Bay Packers, and the
- 1:11:09Speaker 1: Saints win by 21. This is one of those games. Teams,
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: they've been a mixed bag on both sides of the football,
- 1:11:16Speaker 1: both teams. Which Tyler Shaw are you going to get?
- 1:11:21Speaker 1: Which Michael Penix are you going to get? Those are
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: the questions they've got to answer.
- 1:11:25Speaker 2: There's a lot of big names in this game. Bijan Robinson,
- 1:11:28Speaker 2: Drake London. I mean, Kyle Pitts. We go on the
- 1:11:31Speaker 2: other side of the fence. You got Alvin Kamara reemerging
- 1:11:34Speaker 2: as a starting quarterback or starting running back for the saints.
- 1:11:37Speaker 2: And then Chris Alavi, who's been hotter than the skillet
- 1:11:39Speaker 2: to start the season, which player will be the deciding
- 1:11:42Speaker 2: factor in this game?
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: It's going to be Bijan Robinson in one way or another.
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: If he, if he has a great game, I think
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: Atlanta wins. If they find a way to stop Bijan Robinson,
- 1:11:52Speaker 1: you stop Atlanta, you win the game. Um, It's as
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: simple as that. If you can't stop Bajon, you have
- 1:11:58Speaker 1: no chance of stopping this team. They got big time
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: receivers on the outside. If you go all out to
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: stop him, you better be able to cover those guys.
- 1:12:07Speaker 1: And they're not going to allow you to go all
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: out to stop him. So there should be lanes. And
- 1:12:11Speaker 1: if there's lanes, even if there's not lanes, he finds
- 1:12:14Speaker 1: a way to create. He's going to be the biggest
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: factor in this game.
- 1:12:18Speaker 2: Richard, both teams are 1-2. This is the NFC South
- 1:12:23Speaker 2: that we make fun of on a weekly basis, but
- 1:12:25Speaker 2: it's still an intriguing matchup for Monday Night Football. The
- 1:12:28Speaker 2: winner of this game is going to take the lead
- 1:12:30Speaker 2: for the division, so there's a lot at stake here.
- 1:12:33Speaker 2: What is the biggest storyline coming into this game?
- 1:12:38Speaker 1: There's not a lot of storylines, if I'm being honest.
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: Both teams are 1-2. They can get to 500. The
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: storyline is the NFC South you know, could potentially be
- 1:12:49Speaker 1: 500 at this point. You know, it's one of those games.
- 1:12:53Speaker 1: I got the Atlanta Falcons winning this game. You know,
- 1:12:56Speaker 1: maybe if they can go on a run, we can
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: start having more of an in-depth conversation about what this
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: team can do later on.
- 1:13:02Speaker 2: Well, those were fresh from the oven takes brought to
- 1:13:04Speaker 2: you by DiGiorno. Make Monday night pizza night with fresh
- 1:13:09Speaker 2: from the oven taste. It's not delivery. It's DiGiorno.
- 1:13:14Speaker 1: Monday night delivers the final statement of the football week.
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: You've spent all weekend reacting to big plays and big
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: decisions and now there's one more matchup to break down.
- 1:13:24Speaker 1: It's the kind of night you plan around. So dinner
- 1:13:26Speaker 1: should elevate it, not pull you away from it. And
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: DiGiorno pizza lets you enjoy restaurant quality taste fresh from
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: your own oven. While you settle in and watch how
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: the defense disguises coverage, how the offense adjusts, and Who
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: makes the play when everybody knows the pressure is coming?
- 1:13:46Speaker 1: Stay locked in to the moments everyone will react afterwards to.
- 1:13:50Speaker 1: The fourth down call, the coverage bust, the turnover that
- 1:13:54Speaker 1: changes everything. Monday night is too good to treat like
- 1:13:58Speaker 1: an ordinary weeknight. So don't just make do, make DiGiorno.
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: It's not delivery, baby. It's DiGiorno.
- 1:14:07Speaker 2: Richard, we saw a bit of a wild scene, something
- 1:14:10Speaker 2: we don't see a whole lot of. It's going viral
- 1:14:12Speaker 2: right now on X, Instagram, whatever social media site you
- 1:14:15Speaker 2: want to go on these days. And it's Trey McBride
- 1:14:18Speaker 2: in an exchange with an official and the official saying
- 1:14:21Speaker 2: F you to Trey McBride. I got to believe, you know,
- 1:14:26Speaker 2: as a player, you do not take to that very kindly.
- 1:14:31Speaker 2: How does this happen? What are your thoughts about officials
- 1:14:34Speaker 2: talking back to players in this manner?
- 1:14:38Speaker 1: Well, it happens all the time. Maybe this is one
- 1:14:41Speaker 1: of the few times it gets caught on camera and
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: fans get an insight to how the dynamic works sometimes.
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: But these referees are human beings and they get overly
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: emotional and get overly caught up too. You saw it
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: in the Minnesota Vikings game. One of the defenders was
- 1:14:57Speaker 1: kind of thrown into a referee. The referee gets up,
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: gets all in his face, starts pointing and yelling at him.
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: And these are highly charged games. These are high adrenaline games.
- 1:15:06Speaker 1: you know, individuals playing in these football games and you
- 1:15:09Speaker 1: got to try to keep your cool as a player
- 1:15:11Speaker 1: while these referees aren't always keeping their cool. And they
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: have a lot of power and they have a lot
- 1:15:17Speaker 1: of power on the outcome of these games. So I'm
- 1:15:20Speaker 1: sure the league will reprimand the ref in some way,
- 1:15:25Speaker 1: but it's just a snapshot into the dynamics of a
- 1:15:30Speaker 1: football game. You know, you wonder, how these guys do,
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: and you're like, oh, man, these guys are pretty calm
- 1:15:35Speaker 1: and reserved, and they're not. They're not always reserved. And
- 1:15:37Speaker 1: sometimes you get into it and you wonder why a
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: player's gotten so frustrated throughout the game and why he's
- 1:15:41Speaker 1: going off, and it's because sometimes there's been numerous conversations
- 1:15:45Speaker 1: with this ref and there's a level of disrespect happening
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: that you can't respond to because you'll be penalized. And
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: this is just one of those examples where a player's
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: getting cursed out and what are you going to do?
- 1:15:55Speaker 1: You just got to turn around and walk back and
- 1:15:58Speaker 1: hope that something's done about it. Not every time is
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: it caught on camera like this.
- 1:16:02Speaker 2: Have you ever had exchanges with refs in your days?
- 1:16:04Speaker 2: What was the worst thing a refs ever said to you?
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: I've had many exchanges with refs and, and you know, it's,
- 1:16:12Speaker 1: it's just, it's charged in a moment. I can't remember
- 1:16:14Speaker 1: everything that said, or, you know, I'm not going to
- 1:16:16Speaker 1: try to try to relitigate things from the past, but again,
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: it's charged up. They don't always agree with the things
- 1:16:22Speaker 1: you're doing. And sometimes the, the, the refs are offensive
- 1:16:25Speaker 1: centric usually. And obviously in this, this clip, it's Trey McBride,
- 1:16:30Speaker 1: a tight end who was frustrated, but, A lot of
- 1:16:32Speaker 1: times they're almost frustrated with DBs to the point where
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: they're like, hey, get the F off of them. You know, stop, stop,
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: stop doing this. Like they're with the offense. And you're like, hey,
- 1:16:41Speaker 1: I'm playing in this game too. You're supposed to be
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: an objective party. And so you get kind of frustrated
- 1:16:46Speaker 1: with that. But you got to deal with it. That's
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: part of the game.
- 1:16:49Speaker 2: Well, Richard, it's a pleasure sitting down with you every weekend, man.
- 1:16:52Speaker 2: As Sunday nights, these are the best nights. It's football season.
