- 0:08Apparently, I am not a man.
- 0:11We're going to talk about that next.
- 0:25I love the chase and the hunt and
- 0:27I set the pace when I'm running.
- 0:28I always take what I want and I
- 0:30always give it one hundred.
- 0:31Don't need a bank, no I'm funded.
- 0:33Play the game like it's nothing.
- 0:34I'm always thankful for something.
- 0:36Don't take for granted, stay humble.
- 0:37Now wake up!
- 0:39It's time to look at the enemy.
- 0:41Look in the mirror if he is no
- 0:43friend to me.
- 0:44It's not working out,
- 0:45maybe it's the chemistry.
- 0:47It's time to break up.
- 0:55it's lunch time what is going on everybody
- 0:58welcome to lunch with the clydesdale we
- 1:00are back and better than ever maybe
- 1:04I'm still recovering from the surgery from
- 1:06last week.
- 1:08Bear with me as still experiencing a lot
- 1:11of drainage.
- 1:12I'm going to go as long as I
- 1:14can for the next forty five minutes and
- 1:18do what I can to hang in there.
- 1:20We did a show last night.
- 1:22I did have some repercussions from having
- 1:24to talk so much last night.
- 1:27So hopefully we can do that today without
- 1:30as much happening.
- 1:32Going solo is making it a little more
- 1:35tenuous,
- 1:36but we're going to do what we can.
- 1:38We're going to try to bring you a
- 1:39show every day this week.
- 1:42everything is going super well with the
- 1:44recovery uh just you know some lingering
- 1:47things that i have to work through um
- 1:50before i'm able to blow my nose again
- 1:54and really just kind of empty things out
- 1:56so
- 1:58I'm super stoked to be with you.
- 1:59I wanted to start off today with some
- 2:02stuff I just learned about within the last
- 2:04hour.
- 2:05It was posted to Pat Vellner's Instagram
- 2:08story.
- 2:09If you did not see this,
- 2:13here is what it is.
- 2:15I don't know if you can see this
- 2:16very well,
- 2:17but here's a story of Pat Vellner in
- 2:20a hospital room getting his chest shaved.
- 2:24And then on the next slide,
- 2:28They did a great job with his chest
- 2:31shaved like so.
- 2:33And then on the next slide,
- 2:36and of course,
- 2:37let me try to do this again.
- 2:42For some reason, there we go.
- 2:45All right.
- 2:47So I'm getting a heart ablation.
- 2:50I'm okay.
- 2:51Son of a gun.
- 2:53I'm getting a heart ablation.
- 2:55I'm okay.
- 2:56Do not panic.
- 3:01If you've been following me at all,
- 3:04a heart ablation is generally done,
- 3:06I believe, if you have AFib.
- 3:08As someone who has suffered from AFib a
- 3:09couple times in the last couple of years,
- 3:15One of the things done along the line
- 3:18to help cure it is to have a
- 3:20heart ablation.
- 3:22It's not something that should put him out
- 3:24for a lengthy period of time,
- 3:26but it does hopefully keep his heart in
- 3:29rhythm.
- 3:30But if you've never had AFib,
- 3:32it really does kind of take the wind
- 3:35out of you when you're in it.
- 3:37and um it makes working out very very
- 3:40hard um afib is not life-threatening what
- 3:44is like what becomes the danger from afib
- 3:48is a stroke um because the blood is
- 3:51not pumping at a rhythm that makes sense
- 3:54so it pulls and then it can clot
- 3:57and then once you get a blood clot
- 3:58then you are at risk for a stroke
- 4:02so um
- 4:04So yeah, I have had AFib twice.
- 4:06I've been cardioverted twice.
- 4:10And I'm here now.
- 4:11Mark Phillips had AFib once.
- 4:12Got cardioverted and was good to go.
- 4:14Hasn't returned.
- 4:15Yeah.
- 4:17I've been through this a lot.
- 4:18So it's actually something I'm pretty
- 4:20familiar with.
- 4:23Cardioversion is the first technique.
- 4:26Second is a cardioversion with medication.
- 4:31And then...
- 4:33And then there's the ablation.
- 4:34And then thank goodness we have Shanna,
- 4:37our resident MD, not AFib necessarily,
- 4:41could be other arrhythmias.
- 4:43Okay.
- 4:43Thank you for the clarification.
- 4:46But that was on his stories just within
- 4:49the last hour that that is happening with
- 4:53Pat Vellner.
- 4:54So we'll be looking out in the next
- 4:56few days to see where that goes and
- 4:59what occurs with that.
- 5:02And maybe we'll learn more as we go.
- 5:07But for someone who has been around the
- 5:08sport for a long time,
- 5:10when you see something like that,
- 5:13Of course,
- 5:13there's general concern for his health and
- 5:15well-being and our thoughts and prayers go
- 5:18out to him and his family and hope
- 5:20that everything came out just fine.
- 5:27Mark Phillips, yes,
- 5:28could be just tachycardia.
- 5:31Yeah.
- 5:33Again,
- 5:33I'm experienced with the AFib part of it.
- 5:35I don't know much else,
- 5:37but just wanted to share that as it
- 5:39came out within the last hour.
- 5:45The cowboy.
- 5:50Cowboy.
- 5:50Dude,
- 5:50I didn't realize how bad you sounded until
- 5:52I hear you now.
- 5:52You sound better.
- 5:56glad i sound better i vocally i sound
- 6:00i feel better um it's just the drainage
- 6:03still from the sinus hopefully um
- 6:07hopefully that like slows down in the next
- 6:09few days and then thursday i'm allowed to
- 6:12start blowing my nose so hopefully i can
- 6:14get that out instead of it being kind
- 6:16of in there i do like three rinses
- 6:19a day
- 6:20of my nose trying to get out as
- 6:21much as I can um but it's it
- 6:25just the more I talk the more the
- 6:28the mucus forms in the sinus cavity so
- 6:31that's why I'm like tenuous as to how
- 6:33long I can go today uh Mark says
- 6:38I kind of look better too well thank
- 6:40you thank you I had them uh pull
- 6:43the cheeks up a little bit and I'm
- 6:44just kidding
- 6:49Elite athletes at risk for AFib and
- 6:51dilated left ventricle.
- 6:54Oh, wow.
- 6:55Okay.
- 6:57Nice.
- 7:00so uh so we have that with the
- 7:03pat velner news we also had this breaking
- 7:06within the last hour and a half and
- 7:09barbell spin and andrew hiller have
- 7:11already made clips on this uh but james
- 7:14sprague announced on the savon podcast
- 7:16today that he would be doing the world
- 7:19fitness project as it would be silly of
- 7:21him to not do it since he was
- 7:23the top contract winner of last season
- 7:27um and he is actually scaling back his
- 7:29semi-final season to just one semi-final
- 7:33and then the wfp and someone that's as
- 7:36good as james has the confidence that they
- 7:38can punch their ticket at an event like
- 7:41norcal use the other time that would have
- 7:44been a semi-final to punch his ticket um
- 7:47to compete in the wfp and earn i
- 7:50believe the hundred thousand dollar
- 7:51contract he earned uh last season
- 7:56In addition to that,
- 7:58this is what he said during that time,
- 8:02and I don't know if the boys necessarily
- 8:07knew he was going to say this,
- 8:08but here it is.
- 8:10Maybe I'll go do a couple WFP events
- 8:13this year.
- 8:14You should.
- 8:14Come cover me.
- 8:15Come hang out with me.
- 8:16I'd love to do it.
- 8:16I'm the only one out of the boys
- 8:17doing it.
- 8:20So I am the only one out of
- 8:21the boys doing the WFP.
- 8:26So there you have it.
- 8:29I don't think that's been confirmed
- 8:30anywhere else.
- 8:31The other thing that is odd is if
- 8:33you watch Jenny's a dense updates this
- 8:35morning, she talked about that, um,
- 8:37announcements for signed contracts ended,
- 8:40uh, January, I believe.
- 8:43In addition to that,
- 8:45if you go to the world fitness project,
- 8:47Instagram page,
- 8:48James Sprague is not even listed as a
- 8:50signed athlete for that.
- 8:53Um,
- 8:56Um, for that,
- 8:59he's not even posted as an athlete who
- 9:01has signed yet.
- 9:03And he said he is doing it.
- 9:05Uh,
- 9:05so there's gotta be a backlog of
- 9:06information coming out of WFP, but yeah,
- 9:10We have learned that two of them are
- 9:12not doing it for three of them are
- 9:13not doing it for sure through this
- 9:15conversation and that James is putting all
- 9:17of his eggs in the NorCal basket.
- 9:21CJ, I see you say Del Mar.
- 9:22He is not doing Del Mar.
- 9:25He is spacing it out so that he
- 9:26can do WFP tour stop one in Mexico
- 9:31City and NorCal two.
- 9:33Because there's enough space between the
- 9:34two.
- 9:35And the reason I know that is Savant
- 9:38said he is streaming NorCal and that they
- 9:41would be together at that event where
- 9:43James is trying to punch his ticket.
- 9:47So keeping it real came to say I'm
- 9:57not a man can't carry dumbbells.
- 9:58Yeah,
- 9:59we're going to get into that in a
- 10:00second.
- 10:05Uh, trained all of it's a leak.
- 10:07Yeah.
- 10:10I think what we love about James is
- 10:12he's so open and transparent with us and
- 10:14tells us what's going on in his life.
- 10:17But he also, I think leaks information.
- 10:20Sometimes he's not supposed to because
- 10:23he's so open and honest and transparent.
- 10:26So it's one of those, you're like,
- 10:27you take the good with the bad and
- 10:29hopefully, hopefully it's not too bad.
- 10:41Uh, Shanna says that spin.
- 10:43Yeah.
- 10:45She has a spin says Madera,
- 10:47some pepper declined WFP for next year.
- 10:49Yeah.
- 10:50It's all based on the interview that James
- 10:52did with Savon this morning that I was
- 10:54watching live when he announced it.
- 10:57Um,
- 10:59and it didn't take long for both Hiller
- 11:01and barbell spin to then release
- 11:02information on that.
- 11:06So
- 11:13Yeah,
- 11:13I believe James said on Boys Interrupted a
- 11:14couple weeks ago that he has a wedding
- 11:17to attend the week end of Del Mar
- 11:19II.
- 11:20Yeah.
- 11:25He always drops the tea casually.
- 11:27He does.
- 11:28He does.
- 11:29He's got to be great material for you,
- 11:30Jenny.
- 11:31Great material.
- 11:38Yes, Trish, it is lunchtime.
- 11:40Lunchtime on the East Coast.
- 11:42of the united states i know people are
- 11:45gathering from other places as well so um
- 11:50the other thing i want to say about
- 11:51boys interrupted um as a as a bears
- 11:54geek fan uh tyson bajent was on last
- 11:57night and i was in heaven getting to
- 11:59listen to uh the inside knowledge he was
- 12:02dropping about um
- 12:06about the bears and their schedule and how
- 12:09they do things and how strength and
- 12:11conditioning goes, how, uh,
- 12:13what resources they have available to the
- 12:15athletes.
- 12:16Um, I,
- 12:18I can't get enough of Tyson Bajan on
- 12:20these shows because just like
- 12:22james tyson is very open and transparent
- 12:25and honest and you get to learn so
- 12:27much and uh if you are a football
- 12:31fan at all we don't get the glimpse
- 12:33into what a day in the life of
- 12:34a football player is and the fact that
- 12:39um tyson was able to give this to
- 12:41us last night just hanging out with some
- 12:44buddies uh it was really cool and i
- 12:46really really appreciated it so uh
- 12:55Andrew Sten,
- 12:55see Heppner's video teasing competition as
- 12:58a master, competing as a master.
- 13:00I didn't see it yet.
- 13:01I saw the video.
- 13:04I assume that's kind of what it was.
- 13:06Uh, but I did not, um,
- 13:09I did not dive into it.
- 13:11It's been honestly,
- 13:12Andrew has just been tough with, uh,
- 13:16the stints in my nose until yesterday,
- 13:18just concentrating without my eyes and my
- 13:21head hurting for a little bit.
- 13:23Uh,
- 13:23so I could only do like small little
- 13:25movements, small little, uh, content, um,
- 13:29consumption at, at times.
- 13:31But, uh,
- 13:32I'm hoping to catch up this week.
- 13:38Lito says it's tea time in the UK.
- 13:40There you go.
- 13:45So let's talk about being a man.
- 13:48So if you missed it yesterday,
- 13:50or maybe I don't know when it came
- 13:51out,
- 13:52but Andrew Hiller made a video about it
- 13:53last night that I was watching.
- 13:56And it was Josh Bridges talking about what
- 13:59he thinks every man should be able to
- 14:01do.
- 14:03And I just want to say,
- 14:06I think it's ridiculous.
- 14:09To put no parentheticals around this at
- 14:11all and just say every man should be
- 14:12able to do this, I think is absurd.
- 14:17And so here it is.
- 14:18I just screen froze the spot where the
- 14:22list was so we could kind of talk
- 14:24about it.
- 14:26And the man test.
- 14:29You should be able to do a seven-minute
- 14:30mile run
- 14:33back squat your body weight for ten reps,
- 14:36bench press your body weight for ten reps,
- 14:37which what he's saying there is your back
- 14:40squat and your bench press should be the
- 14:42same.
- 14:45Who the hell benches and squats the same?
- 14:50That's just absurd.
- 14:53Do be able to do ten pull-ups,
- 14:56deadlift one point five times your body
- 14:58weight for ten reps.
- 15:01take a sandbag ground to shoulder body
- 15:03weight.
- 15:05So pick up your body weight in a
- 15:06sandbag and put it to your shoulder.
- 15:11Uh,
- 15:11thirty pushups unbroken and then swim five
- 15:15hundred meters in under ten minutes.
- 15:19So I was like,
- 15:22so I was thinking about this as he's
- 15:25going through this list as like in,
- 15:29in my peak condition in my life,
- 15:34how would I fare during all of this?
- 15:38And I wouldn't, I wouldn't do well.
- 15:42I wouldn't, I just wouldn't do well.
- 15:46Now, like in my peak swimming condition,
- 15:47could I run a seven minute mile?
- 15:49I could back then.
- 15:51Could I back squat my body weight ten
- 15:53reps?
- 15:53I probably could.
- 15:54But I don't think I could bench press
- 15:56my body weight for ten reps at that
- 15:59point in time.
- 16:01Maybe, but probably not.
- 16:04I could do the ten pull-ups.
- 16:05The deadlift would have been tough for ten
- 16:08reps, maybe.
- 16:10The sandbag would never have happened.
- 16:13Um, thirty push-ups probably,
- 16:15and I could do the swim.
- 16:17But that is at my, like,
- 16:18peak when I was training five hours a
- 16:20day.
- 16:21That is not like an everyday person or
- 16:24an everyday man.
- 16:28Uh, Trish, yes,
- 16:29if you can do all this,
- 16:30it makes you a man,
- 16:31according to Josh Bridges.
- 16:33There are no parentheticals.
- 16:35Uh, there are no parameters.
- 16:36If you can do this,
- 16:37you are a man.
- 16:40Um...
- 16:43Andrew says,
- 16:43so does this mean when you hit a
- 16:44certain age, you're no longer a man?
- 16:46Or is this for a specific age range?
- 16:49Andrew, he gave no age ranges.
- 16:51It was all men.
- 16:54So at a certain age,
- 16:55if you can no longer do this,
- 16:57you are no longer a man.
- 17:01Lito says, is there a woman test too?
- 17:04I do not believe there is a woman
- 17:05test.
- 17:08This was just Josh Bridges.
- 17:13He does not give an age range.
- 17:16It's.
- 17:17Eighteen or eighty.
- 17:18You are still judged the same according to
- 17:20Josh on this man.
- 17:22This man test.
- 17:31Corey says sorry Lito men only.
- 17:32Well if Lito can do all this then
- 17:35she's a man.
- 17:36That's what it says.
- 17:39Yeah.
- 17:42John George,
- 17:44his mustache has taken over his brain.
- 17:49Eighteen to eighty blind,
- 17:51crippled or crazy.
- 17:52Yeah, all that.
- 17:54I mean, let's be honest,
- 17:56if he's doing this for content creation,
- 17:59there's been videos made about it.
- 18:00I'm sitting here talking about it now.
- 18:02Maybe he's getting what he wants out of
- 18:04this to have a discussion.
- 18:06And do I think there should be a
- 18:08test for what means fitness for a human
- 18:12being or a man or maybe some parameters?
- 18:15Yeah, I think there is some of that.
- 18:17By making it so absurd like this, though,
- 18:20it's become a content topic that we're all
- 18:22talking about.
- 18:23And so he's probably accomplished his
- 18:25goal.
- 18:28Not everything that you put out there has
- 18:30to be
- 18:32When you're creating content,
- 18:34people are trying to get likes and views
- 18:37and all of that stuff.
- 18:38It's creating that.
- 18:39It's doing all the stuff you wanted it
- 18:41to do.
- 18:47CJ says, it's not that absurd.
- 18:49The only absurdity is not putting an age
- 18:51limit on it.
- 18:52Yeah,
- 18:53and I think it's a great goal for
- 18:55if you want to be considered fit for
- 18:58the rest of your life.
- 19:00I think maybe it's a great list for
- 19:02that.
- 19:03I do think the same weight of bench
- 19:05press and squat is a little off.
- 19:07And I think that having bench press and
- 19:09push-ups, both based on body weight,
- 19:11is a little bit off.
- 19:13I think there could be some refining to
- 19:15this for sure.
- 19:16But I think it could be like a
- 19:18good discussion is if you can do all
- 19:20this, you're pretty fit.
- 19:22And that's a good thing moving forward in
- 19:25life.
- 19:26And what I wanted to talk about is,
- 19:28as I was watching Hiller go over this,
- 19:30the whole time I'm thinking is when I
- 19:32was a kid back in the eighties,
- 19:34which was what, a hundred years ago,
- 19:37my high school had what they called the
- 19:39gold shirt test.
- 19:42And basically what it was is,
- 19:44When you got to high school,
- 19:46there were ten things that they tested you
- 19:49on.
- 19:50And based on how you finished on those
- 19:52tests, you could earn a white shirt,
- 19:55a blue shirt, a red shirt,
- 19:56or a gold shirt.
- 19:58Gold meaning the best,
- 20:00white meaning that you didn't hit any of
- 20:02the top levels, blue third, red second.
- 20:09for a lot of people in my high
- 20:10school,
- 20:11that became a goal because if you earned
- 20:14a gold shirt at my high school,
- 20:16your name went up in the gym forever,
- 20:20right?
- 20:20Forever and ever go back today.
- 20:22And if you earned a gold shirt in
- 20:28And I know that my phys ed teacher
- 20:30at the time was looked at as this
- 20:33was a really cool concept and was brought
- 20:36to a lot of different conferences around
- 20:40the country to talk about this and talk
- 20:44about what it means and what it would
- 20:46do.
- 20:46And back then,
- 20:48it was like if you could – so
- 20:52pull-ups was a test.
- 20:53If you could do eight unbroken pull-ups,
- 20:57you got a blue shirt.
- 20:58If you could do fourteen unbroken
- 21:01pull-ups, you got a red shirt.
- 21:02And if you could do twenty unbroken
- 21:04pull-ups, you got a gold shirt.
- 21:07And then to earn a gold shirt,
- 21:08you had to earn the gold level of
- 21:10every single standard.
- 21:12And there were sit-ups.
- 21:13There was treading water.
- 21:14There was underwater swim.
- 21:16There was running.
- 21:20I think it was a four hundred instead
- 21:21of a mile.
- 21:25It's been eons ago,
- 21:26so I don't remember all the...
- 21:27I know rope climb was one.
- 21:29If you could climb to the top of
- 21:30the rope, you got a blue shirt.
- 21:32If you could climb to the top of
- 21:33the rope without legs,
- 21:34you got a red shirt.
- 21:36If you could go up and back down
- 21:38and then back up halfway was a gold
- 21:40shirt and rope climb.
- 21:42And the reason I remember that distinctly
- 21:43is that is the only thing I didn't
- 21:44earn a gold shirt in when I was
- 21:46in high school.
- 21:46And it prevented me from getting my name
- 21:49on the gym wall forever is I could
- 21:51not do...
- 21:52the second ascent up the rope halfway to
- 21:56get my gold shirt.
- 21:59And it was, it was,
- 22:02it was fierce competition in my school
- 22:04because you wanted to earn it.
- 22:06You got to wear that color in your
- 22:09gym class.
- 22:10Um, and it was a status symbol.
- 22:12Like I earned,
- 22:13if you earned blue or above on everything,
- 22:15you got to wear a blue shirt.
- 22:16If you earned red or above on everything,
- 22:19you got to wear a red shirt.
- 22:20And if you got gold,
- 22:22you got to wear gold shirt in the
- 22:24gym class, uh, forever.
- 22:26Um,
- 22:28And so it is,
- 22:31what I like about that is Hiller at
- 22:32the end came in with tears, um,
- 22:35in a different manner, but it really,
- 22:37before he even said that I was thinking
- 22:40this really fits with what we did in
- 22:42high school.
- 22:42And I really think they should do
- 22:44something more like that.
- 22:45And, and then it gives goals and, uh,
- 22:49measures for people to reach for,
- 22:51and you could do it as an adult.
- 22:53It doesn't have to be just a high
- 22:54school thing.
- 22:56Um,
- 22:59It's like the presidential fitness test
- 23:01they had in the seventies.
- 23:03It was very similar to that, John.
- 23:05And I think like two of the president's
- 23:06physical fitness tests actually counted
- 23:10toward your shirt level.
- 23:12But only two of the ten.
- 23:14Because like there was no underwater swim.
- 23:16There was no tread water.
- 23:18I think they made it a four hundred,
- 23:19which was just one lap of the track
- 23:22for time for that.
- 23:26So, but I think it's...
- 23:30I think it's something that like even
- 23:33CrossFit could adopt as like a goal chart
- 23:36for people.
- 23:37And maybe you sell CrossFit shirts that
- 23:40say like,
- 23:41I've reached all the levels of these
- 23:44movements at this level.
- 23:46And I get to,
- 23:46I get to purchase a CrossFit shirt in
- 23:49that color.
- 23:50Like that would be something cool for the
- 23:52community to get around.
- 23:53And then you could wear that around and
- 23:55everybody, everybody,
- 23:58in your gym would know that you were
- 24:00able to accomplish all this stuff.
- 24:06Um, uh,
- 24:11Jay Bertu has an inside track with, uh,
- 24:14Josh Burgess says it, it was told,
- 24:17I was told it should be eight to
- 24:18five by the man.
- 24:25Um,
- 24:29Trish says this is like sixtieth
- 24:30percentile crossfit requirement or maybe
- 24:33seventieth.
- 24:34Yeah, I don't disagree with that.
- 24:36I think that that is probably what it
- 24:38is.
- 24:39And I think it's something that could be
- 24:42fun to measure and a goal to achieve
- 24:45for different crossfitters.
- 24:48That's a little bit different and
- 24:50something to bring the community together.
- 24:58Um,
- 25:02Isn't that kind of the levels thing in
- 25:04the open, though, minus the shirt?
- 25:07I don't think so, Vicki,
- 25:09because it's independent movements that
- 25:11you're trying to get better at.
- 25:14I remember when I first started CrossFit,
- 25:16we had Goat Day,
- 25:17where if there was something that you...
- 25:19Like, when I first started CrossFit,
- 25:21I was over five hundred pounds.
- 25:22My run was not at a level that
- 25:25I could do workouts in a way that
- 25:28made me successful.
- 25:30So my goal was to get my mile
- 25:32time down to a level where I could
- 25:35at least complete workouts, right?
- 25:38So whenever it was GOAT day,
- 25:39I went for a run.
- 25:41right?
- 25:41Other people would work on their muscle
- 25:43ups.
- 25:44Other people would work on this or that.
- 25:46This is stripping down the movements as a
- 25:49way to like,
- 25:50if you want to be great at the
- 25:51open,
- 25:52you need to be great at these ten
- 25:53things.
- 25:55And you need to check all these boxes
- 25:57to be a bulletproof or a complete athlete.
- 26:01So it's taking it one step further.
- 26:05And maybe it's something you do in the
- 26:06fall opposite of the open to get you
- 26:10prepared and ready to then compete in the
- 26:13open.
- 26:14So you can focus on your weaknesses.
- 26:16And it would be a chart to tell
- 26:18you where you stand and where you need
- 26:21more improvement so that when the open
- 26:23comes,
- 26:23you are more prepared and better ready to
- 26:26do so.
- 26:32um uh ken walters like the shirt you
- 26:37get for the rogue a thousand pound
- 26:39challenge exactly that's exactly what was
- 26:41in my head when i thought well one
- 26:44my high school experience plus that rogue
- 26:46does it for the thousand pound challenge
- 26:49you could transfer that over to something
- 26:51like that um
- 27:06Wouldn't singling out specific movements
- 27:08as a test like that be contradictory to
- 27:10the methodology?
- 27:11I don't think so, Vicki.
- 27:12Don't we try to work on our weaknesses
- 27:14in our off time?
- 27:16Like,
- 27:16don't you after class work on something so
- 27:19you're better at it when the class comes?
- 27:26I just think that...
- 27:31We all work on our weaknesses.
- 27:33We all work on,
- 27:34because there's always something that
- 27:36comes up in a workout where like the
- 27:38class passes you by and you need to
- 27:40get better at that.
- 27:42And isn't it cool to know what those
- 27:44things are as like a separate test?
- 27:47It's all part of fitness.
- 27:49You're not going against the methodology.
- 27:51I'm not saying stop doing Metcons
- 27:52altogether.
- 27:54I'm saying periodically test yourself on
- 27:56these movements so you know where you
- 27:58stand and you know where you need to
- 28:00get better so when the Metcon comes,
- 28:03you are good enough to hang.
- 28:09Okay.
- 28:15A CrossFit, wait,
- 28:17is that a Nintendo back there?
- 28:18How'd I miss that?
- 28:19Corey is right.
- 28:20That is a Lego Nintendo that I made
- 28:25about, I don't know, maybe a year ago.
- 28:27But thank you for noticing.
- 28:33Jay Burch,
- 28:34my fastest mile was five fifty seven when
- 28:36I was fourteen at one hundred fifty
- 28:37pounds.
- 28:38I will never be a man again just
- 28:39on the seven minute mile parameter.
- 28:43Yeah, I think that, um,
- 28:48Yeah,
- 28:48I think like with a lot of work,
- 28:51maybe I could get there again.
- 28:52I think running is something that you just
- 28:54kind of have to keep doing and you
- 28:56have to commit to.
- 28:58When I was trying to lose weight,
- 29:00I would do two runs a week outside
- 29:03of the gym because running was my
- 29:05weakness.
- 29:05Every time we had to go on a
- 29:08run,
- 29:08it didn't matter how fast I could cycle
- 29:10a barbell.
- 29:11It didn't matter how many pull-ups I could
- 29:13do.
- 29:13It didn't matter my speed on wall balls.
- 29:15The minute we hit a run,
- 29:16everybody passed me.
- 29:18And if I wanted to get better,
- 29:21I had to take time outside of the
- 29:24gym to get better at running.
- 29:27And so I would do that.
- 29:29And I would commit to that.
- 29:31And I would commit to that two days
- 29:33a week.
- 29:35And maybe, just maybe, in the near future,
- 29:38once all these medical things are done,
- 29:40I can try to get back to that
- 29:42running.
- 29:43I can try to get back to it.
- 29:44Because that, again,
- 29:45is now my weakness again.
- 29:48One,
- 29:48it helps with the cardio part of it
- 29:50so I have more wind during a workout.
- 29:55And if I go on a run,
- 29:57maybe I don't lose as much time to
- 29:59everybody else out on that run.
- 30:09Uh, Vicki says, of course,
- 30:10but you're talking about generalizing a
- 30:12certain number of movements to get a
- 30:13particular shirt.
- 30:14That's all I'm saying.
- 30:15And every workout,
- 30:16shouldn't someone gauge their weaknesses?
- 30:18Sure.
- 30:19But I think this,
- 30:20but we're not all like professional
- 30:21coaches.
- 30:22We're not all, um,
- 30:24self-aware i think that if you test and
- 30:27you see where you stand on a chart
- 30:29you know and the thousand pound challenge
- 30:32is done by crossfitters around the globe
- 30:35that rogue does every year and that's
- 30:37taking three movements and testing those
- 30:40three movements bench deadlift squat can
- 30:43you do a thousand pounds
- 30:46And they have different levels of that.
- 30:47They have like, I think a seven fifty,
- 30:50a thousand, a twelve fifty,
- 30:52a fifteen hundred.
- 30:55And it's just something to break up your
- 30:57the monotony of the year.
- 30:59You don't have to just like dive into
- 31:01Metcon after Metcon after Metcon.
- 31:03We can work on the things we're bad
- 31:05at.
- 31:06Fitness is still fitness.
- 31:10Right.
- 31:13So.
- 31:15It's all working toward the same goal of
- 31:17being fit.
- 31:19There's no guardrail in CrossFit that
- 31:22says...
- 31:24You cannot work on muscle-ups for the next
- 31:27thirty days because that is against the
- 31:29methodology.
- 31:30No, you can do that.
- 31:33We have free will.
- 31:34We can work on whatever we think we
- 31:36need work on so that we are better
- 31:40and better prepared for the workout that
- 31:42comes.
- 31:44And because we worked on that,
- 31:46our overall fitness will grow.
- 31:58Um,
- 31:59at AI is venturing into something that I
- 32:00don't want it to,
- 32:01to like disintegrate into.
- 32:03And that is don't elite athletes get
- 32:05really good at movements for the white
- 32:06leader shirt.
- 32:07Yes.
- 32:08For a paycheck to same concept.
- 32:10Yes.
- 32:11I don't want to take it to like
- 32:13purely competitive, but we all,
- 32:16the reason we do CrossFit is we're,
- 32:18we're competitive in some way.
- 32:19That's what attracts you to CrossFit
- 32:22because it's timed or counted and you have
- 32:24a number at the end of what you
- 32:26do.
- 32:26That means something.
- 32:28And when you get that score,
- 32:30you want to do better.
- 32:32Whether you're competing against your
- 32:34friend, your arch rival, or yourself,
- 32:37you want to do better than you did
- 32:38the time before.
- 32:40And the way to do that is to
- 32:41get better at specific movements within
- 32:45workouts where you suffer and you lose
- 32:48pace or lose ground to whatever you're
- 32:52doing.
- 32:54And it could be anybody from Joe Average,
- 32:59Me to Vicky to anyone.
- 33:04You just want to get better.
- 33:06And every time you get better at
- 33:07something, your fitness level goes up.
- 33:10And that's okay.
- 33:15I don't want to...
- 33:16Because elite athletes have a specific
- 33:19goal in mind that they are trying to
- 33:21do.
- 33:25And...
- 33:28And they are trying to win money,
- 33:29win prize money, win games.
- 33:31They are trying to game the system to
- 33:34get through a weekend the best way
- 33:35possible.
- 33:36I'm just saying for overall general
- 33:38fitness,
- 33:39having a list of items that you could
- 33:41test and see where you stand on that
- 33:43list of fitness is not a bad idea.
- 33:49And I do think it should be tiered
- 33:50so you know this is a really bad
- 33:53weakness or it's a somewhat weakness or
- 33:56maybe it's not a weakness at all,
- 33:57and you can kind of see that through
- 33:59some graphing and charting.
- 34:05So um.
- 34:10So that's pretty much what I have to
- 34:11say about that.
- 34:12And thank you, Vicki.
- 34:15I love feedback because it gives us
- 34:17something to talk about and it makes the
- 34:19conversation better.
- 34:20So I'm not trying to argue with you.
- 34:24I want to have the discussion.
- 34:26And so I appreciate the feedback, truly.
- 34:36Do you think Bridges would have gotten bad
- 34:38heat if he did a female version of
- 34:40the test?
- 34:45I think there are some flaws to it.
- 34:48So I think that whether he did a
- 34:50female test or not,
- 34:51he would have gotten some bad feedback.
- 35:00Um, and I see the mutual love, uh,
- 35:03but maybe we don't have it numbered out,
- 35:05but fitness in a hundred words gives us
- 35:07a list.
- 35:08It gives you a list, right?
- 35:09But we don't know what the score is.
- 35:11And without a score,
- 35:12we don't know where we stand.
- 35:14And so I think you do need to
- 35:16have like levels so you understand where
- 35:22in that parameter,
- 35:24whether it be a percentile,
- 35:26whether it be just some blank times,
- 35:30whatever,
- 35:30so that we can understand where you are.
- 35:33That's all.
- 35:38Because if we're doing CrossFit and it's
- 35:40not measured, then does it really count?
- 35:48All right,
- 35:48I'm going to finish up with this because
- 35:50I've been recovering for the last couple
- 35:52of days.
- 35:52I've watched a lot of content where I
- 35:56just needed to go brain dead.
- 35:58And I've watched some shows.
- 36:05David Reed,
- 36:06I'm okay with the idea of Josh's test,
- 36:08but the randomness of his metrics is
- 36:10suspect.
- 36:11Yeah,
- 36:11I think there's just some flaws in it.
- 36:13And again,
- 36:14I think he just put it out there
- 36:17for a discussion topic and to get views
- 36:19and likes,
- 36:20and that he accomplished considerably.
- 36:25Observable, measurable, repeatable,
- 36:27no clock, no crossfit.
- 36:30So this weekend I tried to watch some
- 36:32stuff just to kind of relax and kind
- 36:34of get away from things.
- 36:36Uh, and one good thing I watched was,
- 36:40uh,
- 36:40the wrecking crew with Jason Momoa and
- 36:43Dave Batista.
- 36:45It was a good old fashioned eighties
- 36:46action movie.
- 36:48Um,
- 36:49there wasn't a lot of thinking to it
- 36:51it was just explosions car chases uh
- 36:53shootouts uh by two big muscly men and
- 36:58i enjoyed it immensely um i wouldn't say
- 37:01it's
- 37:02you know,
- 37:03going to be a Nobel Peace Prize for
- 37:05literature type of thing.
- 37:07But it was extremely entertaining in my
- 37:10opinion.
- 37:11And I really, really,
- 37:12really enjoyed it a great deal.
- 37:14And it is free on Amazon Prime right
- 37:16now.
- 37:17So if you're looking something like that
- 37:19to watch, it's a great find for you.
- 37:23I also tried to watch Begonia on Peacock.
- 37:28It is Emma Stone.
- 37:33I could not.
- 37:34I could not.
- 37:36Could not get through it.
- 37:37I made it thirty five to forty minutes
- 37:40and it never,
- 37:41ever developed into anything.
- 37:44I'm not I couldn't even finish it to
- 37:46tell you if it was good,
- 37:47bad or indifferent.
- 37:49I just could never understand the concept
- 37:52or what was trying to be achieved in
- 37:55those forty minutes.
- 37:56And the soundtrack was trying to create
- 38:00tension and it was just hurting my head.
- 38:05Um, so, uh, Lito says she liked begonia.
- 38:10Uh, so she liked it.
- 38:11I, the, honestly,
- 38:13the soundtrack hurt my head, uh,
- 38:16during the recovery.
- 38:17And so I was out.
- 38:20And it just never went anywhere in those
- 38:22first forty minutes other than they
- 38:24kidnapped a woman thinking she was an
- 38:26alien.
- 38:27And I don't even know where that leads
- 38:28to.
- 38:31So there we go.
- 38:32She said she liked the ending.
- 38:34I couldn't even get close to the ending.
- 38:38So there's that.
- 38:39I also watched the show Stick with Owen
- 38:44Wilson.
- 38:45It's about a golf pro who has a
- 38:48meltdown on a course,
- 38:50discovers a kid who is really great,
- 38:52wants to take him on the road.
- 38:54It is on Apple TV, and I really,
- 38:56really enjoyed it.
- 38:57Very heartwarming show.
- 39:01Very nice movie.
- 39:02Again, nothing.
- 39:06It's Owen Wilson playing Owen Wilson.
- 39:08And it was really, really good.
- 39:12Really enjoyed that.
- 39:13And what I'm currently watching now is
- 39:15Pluribus on Apple TV,
- 39:17which is from the creators of Breaking Bad
- 39:20and Better Call Saul.
- 39:23And it is definitely out there.
- 39:27It is a show about something has happened
- 39:32on Earth where everybody shares the same
- 39:36consciousness,
- 39:38I guess is the best way to put
- 39:39it,
- 39:39except for thirteen people who could not
- 39:42be affected.
- 39:44And the entire world is under the same
- 39:46consciousness and they just experience
- 39:50pure joy.
- 39:52It has, as we got into
- 39:58as I got past episode two,
- 40:00it keeps getting better and better and
- 40:01better.
- 40:03And so hopefully I'll finish that in the
- 40:04next day or two.
- 40:06It is really,
- 40:08it is really thought provoking.
- 40:11And,
- 40:12and I'm really excited to see where it
- 40:16goes next.
- 40:18Lito says she loves the cinematography of
- 40:19it.
- 40:21I would say it's very much like Breaking
- 40:22Bad.
- 40:23There is so many camera angles and views
- 40:27and the way the direction goes that remind
- 40:29me of how Breaking Bad's camera work
- 40:31worked.
- 40:32And so it's very similar to that.
- 40:36Um,
- 40:37and so I can't wait to finish it.
- 40:39I think I am,
- 40:41I just finished episode six yesterday and
- 40:45I think it's a ten episode thing,
- 40:47nine or ten.
- 40:48So we're getting close to the end,
- 40:51but it is so far really, really good.
- 40:53The first couple episodes are trying to
- 40:56figure it out a little bit,
- 40:58but once it like hits and you understand
- 41:00kind of the concept, um, it really,
- 41:03it really sings from that point forward.
- 41:10Now,
- 41:10a soundtrack hurting is not being a man.
- 41:13Ken, I just had sinus surgery.
- 41:16I had two stints up behind my eyes.
- 41:20I was very sensitive to a lot of
- 41:21things.
- 41:23And turn on Begonia for like ten minutes
- 41:26and tell me that music is not something
- 41:29that would give you a headache.
- 41:32It was really, really bad.
- 41:37Anytime someone says Owen Wilson playing
- 41:39Owen Wilson, I hear him saying, wow.
- 41:42Yeah, he does that a lot.
- 41:46You're dead on, Corey.
- 41:48And it's really, really good.
- 41:50Really, really good.
- 41:51Mark Maron's in it.
- 41:55It's just...
- 41:58There's a couple little surprises that may
- 42:01explain why he's in the situation he's in
- 42:04that are very heartfelt and very...
- 42:09that make you understand his plight and
- 42:12where he's going.
- 42:13And it's so good.
- 42:15I really, really enjoyed it.
- 42:17My wife did too.
- 42:18We binge watched that pretty much
- 42:20Saturday, maybe Sunday,
- 42:22one of those two days.
- 42:23Really, really good.
- 42:26So just wanted to share those things that
- 42:29have been on my mind over the weekend
- 42:31while I was recovering.
- 42:32Now I can dive back into the CrossFit
- 42:34content to talk more about stuff with you.
- 42:38But before I do that, don't forget,
- 42:40Third Sea is our sponsor.
- 42:42They're amazing people.
- 42:44Just had conversations with them today.
- 42:47Love Adam and the team at Thirdsy.
- 42:50They are incredible.
- 42:51Make sure you use code Jazzy to get
- 42:53fifteen percent off your order.
- 42:56If you need a good night's sleep and
- 42:57you need to recover, it is the ultimate,
- 43:00the ultimate tool to do that.
- 43:02Gets that collagen in your system,
- 43:04doesn't use melatonin.
- 43:06It helps you sleep,
- 43:07helps you recover and gives you everything
- 43:10you need to have a better day the
- 43:12next day.
- 43:14with that, I wanted to talk about,
- 43:18should CrossFit do an all-star game or a
- 43:20pro bowl?
- 43:22Maybe we'll talk about that tomorrow.
- 43:24Um, but leave comments on the YouTube, uh,
- 43:29about things you want to talk about or
- 43:30comments you have about things we talked
- 43:32about today.
- 43:33And maybe we'll pick those up tomorrow
- 43:36with that.
- 43:36I made it
- 43:42with the recovery.
- 43:43Hopefully,
- 43:43I don't have the adverse effects I did
- 43:47last night.
- 43:48But with that,
- 43:49I hope you guys have a great rest
- 43:50of your day.
