- 0:01Hey everybody, welcome to the good morning from the Chicken
- 0:04Coop podcast. My name is Kim Johnson and I am
- 0:07a mastermindset coach, creative strategist, and also happened to
- 0:10be a farmer. This is my chicken coop and I
- 0:12come out here every day to record a podcast to teach
- 0:16distinctions, possibilities, new ways of thinking, and just bring
- 0:20some joy into the world. So welcome to the coop and let's
- 0:23start your day off in a fantastic way.
- 0:27Hey everybody, good morning from the chicken coop.
- 0:30So today we're talking about what's the difference between
- 0:34giving up and just choosing to not pursue something.
- 0:39There's a massive difference my friends, Massive.
- 0:42And this was brought up to me yesterday by my irrigation guy,
- 0:44believe it or not. So we had to get irrigation just
- 0:49because it's impossible to keep up with watering everything.
- 0:53I would be out here for hours watering and it just doesn't
- 0:55work in the heat of the summer. You just need irrigation to keep
- 0:58everything healthy. So last year we had a company
- 1:02come out and we put in irrigation for the main
- 1:07vegetable garden and all the flower gardens and just ran a
- 1:12line out so that the I didn't have to have hoses everywhere
- 1:15for the chicken coop and the rabbits and everything else.
- 1:18So we ran this whole system out and the the the guy is just
- 1:23super chill. He's one of these guys that like
- 1:26when you talk to him, he's just very low key and he's like,
- 1:29yeah, that's cool. And he's just kind of got this
- 1:32really nice mellow vibe to him. So I called him because we had
- 1:38an issue with the vegetable garden.
- 1:40One it one of the ones that come up, I water it from the top.
- 1:43I don't water from drip irrigation for many reasons, But
- 1:48so it's, it's irrelevant. But there's a post that comes up
- 1:51in each corner and in each middle in the 50 by 50 square.
- 1:55And one of them was broken off while we were taking out the,
- 1:59the, the fabric to get ready to, you know, put the nutrients back
- 2:03in, put all the chicken poop back into the garden and
- 2:05everything else. So it turned out that it snapped
- 2:08off and I had to call him and have him come out.
- 2:11So I said to him, you know, I have this situation with the
- 2:14tomatoes and I can't plant them in the ground.
- 2:17He's like, wow, I've never heard of that out here.
- 2:19And he's like, yeah, people don't usually discuss that stuff
- 2:22with me. And I'm like, really?
- 2:23Because you're kind of like a knowledgeable guy would think
- 2:26that people would talk to you about.
- 2:27He goes, yeah, well, if it doesn't have to do with the
- 2:29specific subject, then they kind of don't bring it up.
- 2:31And I was like, OK, So what are your thoughts on it?
- 2:34So he and I are discussing the idea of using the the bags.
- 2:39They're like fabric pots, essentially.
- 2:43And we're going to plant them in fabric pots.
- 2:45It'll be above the ground. There'll be no way for the roots
- 2:48to get in the ground, which is where this virus comes in and
- 2:51kills the tomatoes. So we were discussing the way to
- 2:54do it. And I said, you know, I'm at the
- 2:56point now where it gets me so frustrated.
- 2:59I just want to give up. And he looks at me and I know I
- 3:02wasn't dead serious that I was going to give up.
- 3:04I was just like, I'm so frustrated.
- 3:06I just want to give up. He looks at me and he's like, no
- 3:08man, you can't give up. And I was like, oh, I'm not
- 3:10really going to give up. He says no, no, no.
- 3:12He's like, let's let's try this. And if that doesn't work, I'll
- 3:15come up with this. And if this doesn't work, I'll
- 3:17come up with this. And he started laughing.
- 3:19He's like, you're the last person that I think I would ever
- 3:22expect to give up. And I said, well, I wouldn't,
- 3:25but I was. I just get so frustrated with
- 3:27it. And he goes, no, we're not
- 3:29walking away from this. He's like, I don't, I don't
- 3:32think there's a reason to walk away from it.
- 3:33And all I think we have to do is just figure out a better way.
- 3:37And I, you didn't ask me before and now I'm, I'm willing to
- 3:40help. So I paused and I thought, isn't
- 3:43that funny? Because like he said, nobody
- 3:45asks him about stuff like that because he's just water.
- 3:48He's not plants. So you know, every, I've gone to
- 3:51every plant source that I knew around here to talk to them
- 3:53about it. And nobody has any ideas.
- 3:55And here I am thinking, OK, I'm I'm running out of ideas.
- 3:59And I talked to the water guy and he has more ideas than
- 4:02anybody else had, and he's from a completely different source.
- 4:05And then that got me thinking about how the difference is
- 4:08giving up means I still have the desire to do it.
- 4:11Of course, tomatoes are my favorite, most favorite thing in
- 4:14the world to grow. So why would I give it up just
- 4:18because I didn't have the right answer?
- 4:20And that's what was happening. So giving up in frustration and
- 4:24still wanting the outcome is very different than saying, you
- 4:28know what? I just don't, I don't want to do
- 4:30this anymore. And, and there's no frustration.
- 4:32It's just, oh, I did that. I'm done with it.
- 4:34It's kind of like we used to have an RV and we used to go out
- 4:38RV ING and then once we got the farm, I was like, OK, I don't I
- 4:42don't need to leave like I did when I had the RV.
- 4:44That was fun when I did it because I didn't necessarily
- 4:48love where I was living and I wanted to be able to.
- 4:51This is pre the farm before we had built it all out and we were
- 4:55in a rental and it was small and I didn't love that.
- 4:58I mean it was great. Don't get me wrong.
- 5:00I was very grateful for it, but I wasn't like I didn't want to
- 5:02be there all the time. I wanted to be somewhere else.
- 5:05So the RV was a solution that's A and when I was done with that
- 5:08solution, I was like, no, I'm good.
- 5:10I'm all set. I wasn't running away from it
- 5:12because I was frustrated. I was moving away from it
- 5:14because I was done with it. Do you see the difference?
- 5:17And this, I'm not even close to being done with it.
- 5:20And it's so funny how it infiltrates mindset.
- 5:22It infiltrates everything where we are with this stuff.
- 5:26And the farm just continues to show me lesson after lesson with
- 5:29this. So remember, sometimes asking
- 5:32somebody who has a completely different aspect of, of, of the
- 5:35world can really bring you some enlightened thoughts because my
- 5:41guy Josh really did it yesterday.
- 5:43So I hope you all have a blessed day and I will see you tomorrow.
- 5:47Bye.
