- 0:00Second Peter chapter 3. Let us pray.
- 0:06Our Father, our King, our Lord and our boss, our everything.
- 0:09Father, we love you. We love you with every ounce of
- 0:12our being. We love you, Father, so much.
- 0:17Speak to us today. Speak to us loudly and boldly
- 0:20and mightily. Speak to us in that still small
- 0:23voice. God, stir within us something
- 0:26that has never been realized in our lives.
- 0:30God, let us see you correctly and rightly.
- 0:33God, we want to see you in all of your glory.
- 0:37Let the train of your robe fill this temple.
- 0:40God, as we look upon you, Lord, I pray that we will see you in
- 0:47all of your fullness, see you in your glory, and we honor you.
- 0:52King Jesus, you are our everything.
- 0:55You are our very being. You're the breath in our lungs.
- 0:59You are closer than the skin on our body.
- 1:02You are greater than anything that we have ever even thought
- 1:06about. You're greater than our
- 1:08intellect. You're greater than our finite
- 1:11minds. You're greater than any thing
- 1:14that we have ever placed our eyes or mind upon.
- 1:18So we fix our entire self upon You.
- 1:23We fix our entire being upon you, God.
- 1:27We want to know you. We want to be known by You.
- 1:30We want to serve You. We want to go out and do the
- 1:34things that you have called us to.
- 1:36We want, Father, to please You. We want you, God, more than we
- 1:41want another day, more than we want our very life, more than we
- 1:47want pleasures, more than we want anything that this world
- 1:52has to offer. God, seek us, search us.
- 1:58God, purge us from anything that is not of you and from you, God.
- 2:04I pray that our entire lives will be lived towards you.
- 2:08God yielded towards you, pulsating towards the light.
- 2:14God, I pray that we can walk in the light.
- 2:17I pray that we can have the fellowship with you.
- 2:20I pray God that you'll be near to us.
- 2:22I pray that we will be one with you.
- 2:25God, I pray that you'll help us to abide.
- 2:28Help us to love our neighbors, Lord as ourselves.
- 2:31God, I pray that you'll supernaturally fill us today.
- 2:36Cleanse this temple, Father. Pull out any dross and
- 2:40impurities. Pull out any cancer, God.
- 2:43Pull out any disease, God. I pray that you'll pull out any
- 2:47sin. Lord, I pray that we will not be
- 2:52those who say one thing and do another.
- 2:55God, I pray against hypocrisy and duplicity.
- 2:58Lord, I pray that we will be authentic.
- 3:02Father, I pray that we'll genuinely love you and love
- 3:06people. God, I pray that we'll not be
- 3:09those who are in it for money or power.
- 3:14God, I pray that we will not be those who are teaching false
- 3:20this. Lord, give us sound doctrine,
- 3:22sound theology. Father, I pray in the name of
- 3:25Jesus that you'll help us. Lord, help us to be those
- 3:28difference makers. Help us to be those peacemakers.
- 3:31Help us to be the ministers of reconciliation.
- 3:35God, help us to be light in this Dark World, to be salt in this
- 3:39bland world. For you are worthy to be praised
- 3:42and honored and glorified in the highest.
- 3:45God, I pray that our prayers will be incensed unto your holy
- 3:51nostrils. God, stir us up with zeal today
- 3:54for your house consume us. God, eat us up with your
- 3:58holiness, Father, for we are yours and we are your lay down
- 4:02lovers and we serve you, King Jesus, and we love you.
- 4:06God Almighty Holy Spirit, fill us today.
- 4:09Maranatha, come, come, Lord, come.
- 4:13The Spirit and the bride says, come, we worship you in spirit
- 4:16and truth. I decrease as you increase.
- 4:19King Jesus, it's all about you, the same yesterday, today, and
- 4:23forever. You are holy, you are worthy,
- 4:26you are honorable, and it's in your holy and precious name that
- 4:30I pray. Amen.
- 4:32Well, let's start in verse one. This second epistle, beloved, I
- 4:43now write unto you in both, which I stir up your pure minds
- 4:49by way of remembrance. So Peter here wants to stir us
- 4:54up into remembrance of what Jesus Christ has said to him and
- 5:00what he wants us to know. These are God's words breathed
- 5:04upon these pages, alive and active, and they're reading you
- 5:08as you try to read them, friends.
- 5:10And he wants to stir us up to this purity of minds and then
- 5:14put us in remembrance of what is to come.
- 5:17We have come to a holy mount today.
- 5:21We have come to some eschatology, these prophecies
- 5:26that have yet to come into fruition, but they were written
- 5:29for us, for us to know what we should expect and be looking for
- 5:35friends. These are not just words on a
- 5:37page to feel good, to help us get through this life.
- 5:41These are God's words and He wants us to know that they are
- 5:44reliable and trustworthy and true.
- 5:47And just as if all the other prophecies that came true in
- 5:53Jesus day and that we're fulfilled, the prophecies that
- 5:56we're about to read of will come true and be fulfilled to the
- 6:03exact degree to the last letter. These words are for us to know
- 6:10what will not might, but what will happen in the last days.
- 6:16And it has been the last days since Jesus Christ left this
- 6:20earth. So how much more is it the last
- 6:23days today, verse 2 that you might that you may be mindful of
- 6:31the words which were spoken before the holy prophets and of
- 6:37the commandment of us, the apostles of the Lord and Savior.
- 6:41So the Old Testament and the New Testament confirm each other.
- 6:46They are not at odds with each other.
- 6:50You need to know that from Genesis to Malachi everything
- 6:58pointed to Jesus Christ and then from Acts all the way to
- 7:05Revelation everything points back to Jesus Christ.
- 7:10The Gospels are the hinge point of the entire Bible and all of
- 7:14it confirms each other. There is a scarlet thread that
- 7:18is interwoven from Genesis to Revelation, and His name is
- 7:23Jesus Christ. And Peter actually got to see
- 7:27him and meet Him and be with Him, and walk with Him and dine
- 7:30with Him, and Sup with Him in the flesh.
- 7:33And one day we will too, if we continue on in the faith.
- 7:39Verse 3. Knowing this first, that there
- 7:43shall come in the last days scoffers walking after their own
- 7:48lusts. He gives us why these scoffers
- 7:53are here and why they exist. The scoffers exist because they
- 8:02have chosen the lusts of this earth.
- 8:08They're not really waiting. They're not really eager.
- 8:14They don't really want Jesus Christ to return because they
- 8:20love this world. They love the lust of this
- 8:23world. They love the mammon, they love
- 8:28the pleasure and the pleasantries.
- 8:30They love the things of this world, friends, and they're not
- 8:34eager for the return of our Lord Jesus Christ.
- 8:37They don't look up and see their redemption drawing near, even
- 8:41though it is they refuse to see it.
- 8:44They think that it just goes on and on and on as it always has,
- 8:48because deep down they don't really look forward to His
- 8:52coming for and saying where is the promise of his coming for?
- 9:01Since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were
- 9:07from the beginning of the creation.
- 9:11So this is the error, friends. They think that things just keep
- 9:15on going as they always have. They don't actually live in
- 9:18light of eternity. They're not actually thinking
- 9:21that today could be the day that He returns.
- 9:24They don't think that this is the generation that could see
- 9:27the return of our Lord Jesus Christ.
- 9:30They don't live on purpose. They don't live meaningful
- 9:33lives. They're floating and drifting
- 9:35through life. They're making it all about the
- 9:37things that it's not. They are making it about
- 9:40retirement, 4O1K. They're making it about their
- 9:44bank account, their multiple houses.
- 9:46They're making it about all of the events and all of the
- 9:51festivals. They're making it about the
- 9:54things that Jesus told us not to.
- 9:58If we truly believed that today could be the day that He comes
- 10:03back, how would we live our lives?
- 10:06What would we say? Who would we call and make
- 10:09things right with? Who would we tell about the Lord
- 10:13Jesus Christ and what He's done in our lives?
- 10:16And whatever the answers to those things are, that's how we
- 10:19live our lives for the rest of our lives.
- 10:21For however many days you have left on this earth. 5 For this
- 10:32they willingly are ignorant of that.
- 10:37By the word of God, the heavens were of old, and the earth
- 10:41standing out of the water and in the water.
- 10:46So you need to understand what he's saying here.
- 10:48In Noah's day it had never rained on this earth, and only
- 10:53the springs had come up out of the earth to water the
- 10:57vegetation. And here Noah had to step out in
- 11:01faith and there were many scoffers and mockers and those
- 11:05who took light of it all and thought that Noah was a madman.
- 11:09And there will be many who say the same about a blood bought
- 11:13born again believer who loves Jesus Christ more than they love
- 11:17their own life. And here he's saying that we
- 11:23should not air as they did in the days before Noah. 6 Where?
- 11:29By the world that then was being overflowed with water perished.
- 11:37That's what happened, friends, when Noah, his three sons and
- 11:43their wives all got into the ark and the animals came in pairs
- 11:49and God shut the door, it started to rain.
- 11:54And for 40 days and for 40 nights, the entire globe was
- 11:58deluged in water and drowned, Every single person and all the
- 12:05animals that were not on that ark.
- 12:08But the ark floated, this massive box floated.
- 12:14No rudder, no sail, only God holding it up above the waters
- 12:21as all the world was drowned. Friends 7 But the heavens and
- 12:31the earth, which are now by the same word, are kept in store,
- 12:40reserved unto fire, against the day of judgment and perdition of
- 12:47ungodly men. So there's coming a second
- 12:50judgment upon the earth, this judgment of fire, this
- 12:53destruction by fire. And perhaps this is volcanic
- 12:59eruptions. Perhaps this is atomic bombs.
- 13:03Perhaps this is fire and brimstone.
- 13:07Perhaps this is however God designs it for the entire globe,
- 13:14every square inch of the entire world, to be purged and
- 13:19purified. And if you study the magma after
- 13:24a volcanic eruption, it is the most fertile soil on planet
- 13:29earth and life springs up from it.
- 13:32We need to know that Jesus said the heaven and earth shall pass
- 13:36away, but not one of his words. And behold, he makes all things
- 13:43new. All of the toxic sludge, all of
- 13:49the pollution, the ozone layer in it, all that we are fighting,
- 13:54this Green Deal that we all are striving towards, only God can
- 13:59bring about and perform. He told us multiple places in
- 14:03His Word that the earth will wear out like a piece of
- 14:07clothing, friends. And it is.
- 14:10And He will renew it and He will bring it back brand new.
- 14:16A new heaven and a new earth. Friends 8 But beloved, be not
- 14:26ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord. 1000
- 14:32years and 1000 years is 1 day. So time is irrelevant to God.
- 14:37He lives outside of time. He created time for us to live
- 14:42within friends, but He himself is not bound by time.
- 14:47And this is the one aspect that we struggle with the most when
- 14:51it comes to understanding God and when it comes to
- 14:54understanding His plans is everything in our lives is based
- 14:59off of time. We want to know the beginning,
- 15:02we want to know the end, we want to know all of what is contained
- 15:06in the middle, and we don't understand how God is outside of
- 15:09time. He is the Alpha, He is the
- 15:11Omega. He is the beginning, He is the
- 15:14end, He is all of it, all wrapped up into Himself.
- 15:19He is the starting point and the ending point.
- 15:23He is eternal and we are not. We can be immortal, but we do
- 15:32not understand the eternal aspect of God.
- 15:38And here we're going to find out why God seems to be slow and
- 15:44slack it His second coming. But what if He would have came
- 15:48before you ever gave your life to Him?
- 15:50What a tragedy that would have been.
- 15:55But beloved, verse 9, the Lord is not slack concerning His
- 16:02promise, as some men count slackness, but his
- 16:07long-suffering to us were not willing that any should perish,
- 16:13but that all should come to repentance.
- 16:15He's giving us more time to repent, to make it right to come
- 16:26to Him to be saved. Friends, He doesn't want you to
- 16:30be eternally separated from Him, and that is why he's dragging
- 16:38his feet. And it's been the end time, it's
- 16:41been the last days since Jesus ascended to the right hand of
- 16:46God. 10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the
- 16:55night, in the which the heavens shall pass away with the great
- 17:01noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, and the
- 17:07earth also, and the works that are in it shall be burned up.
- 17:13So you need to understand there is a second destruction that is
- 17:18reserved for fire, and the fire is going to purge and purify all
- 17:26of the impurities of this globe. And we ourselves, the righteous,
- 17:32will be judged at the Bema seat, where we will suffer loss for
- 17:38anything that we did that was for self or for vanity.
- 17:44But we press towards receiving rewards from him that are
- 17:52imperishable. The crown of life.
- 17:55Friends 11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved,
- 18:04what manner of persons ought you to be in all holy conversation
- 18:09and godliness, if you think about it all, And what is the
- 18:12meaning to it all? If you think about what's the
- 18:15end of it all? How different should our lives
- 18:20look than what they do? When we're making it all about
- 18:24self and about a career, we're making it about building our own
- 18:29Kingdom on this earth, and we want a nice, cushy, comfortable
- 18:32life here. And we like the idea of not
- 18:37going to hell and being in heaven.
- 18:41But if we truly understood what the plan of God is, and it will
- 18:47not be thwarted, then we should live sold out lives to Him,
- 18:53willing to go anywhere, willing to say whatever He wants us to
- 18:59say, willing to lay down our own lives for Him, if we truly
- 19:04understood what was at stake. 12 Looking for and hasting unto the
- 19:13coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on
- 19:17fire, shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with
- 19:22fervent heat. He's telling us over and over
- 19:26and over again that there is the second destruction by fire, and
- 19:31He's telling us to look up and see that our redemption is
- 19:35drawing near. We can see the leaves on the fig
- 19:38tree, and we can know that summer is near.
- 19:41We know that He's coming like a thief in the night, and that no
- 19:46one knows that day or the hour except for God Almighty.
- 19:50And Jesus stands ready to judge. 13 Nevertheless, we, according
- 19:57to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth wherein
- 20:02dwells righteousness. This is New Jerusalem coming
- 20:06down to a purified, pure world that has been made new.
- 20:13And sitting upon the earth, and for us to be with Him forever
- 20:18and ever, where only righteousness dwells, and there
- 20:22is no evil. Friends, there is no person
- 20:27there that should not be there. 14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing
- 20:34that you look for such things, be diligent that you may be
- 20:39found of Him in peace, without spot and blameless.
- 20:48That is what we're called to, friends.
- 20:51He wants us to live peaceably. He wants us to be blameless.
- 20:57He wants us, friends, to not live in sin.
- 21:01He wants fellowship with us, 15 and to count that the
- 21:08long-suffering of our Lord is salvation, even as our beloved
- 21:14brother Paul also, according to the wisdom given unto him, has
- 21:20written to you. So all of the church doctrine
- 21:23was entrusted to Paul. And Peter here gives him a nod
- 21:28of reverence and a nod of respect.
- 21:33And he's actually showing you that the words of the apostle
- 21:38Paul are God breathed, God inspired, what a beautiful
- 21:46brotherhood we serve. And he's saying that this
- 21:51long-suffering of God equals our salvation. 16 As also in all his
- 22:02epistles, speaking in them of these things in which are some
- 22:06things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned
- 22:11and unstable, wrestle, as they do also the other Scriptures,
- 22:18unto their own destruction. This is a picture of somebody
- 22:22who just loves to be contentious, somebody who just
- 22:26loves to stir the pot, somebody who just loves to call every
- 22:30little thing that you say into question.
- 22:33And they want to question all of your little doctrines that you
- 22:37try to go out and teach. And they want to try to make you
- 22:41into a fool, and they want to try to pick you apart.
- 22:45And it is not from God, friends. This brotherhood that we have
- 22:51love covers a multitude of sins, friends.
- 22:54And there is sins, friends, that people commit knowingly.
- 23:01And then there are sins that they commit unknowingly,
- 23:05friends. And it is not profitable for us
- 23:10to try to pick people apart and try to hang on their every word,
- 23:16and to make them out to be fools.
- 23:18That is not from God. And it is to their own
- 23:21destruction, these people who love to be divisive. 17 You
- 23:30therefore, beloved, seeing you know these things before,
- 23:35beware, bless you also being LED away with the error of the
- 23:44wicked, fall from your own steadfastness.
- 23:50Be wise, be warned, beware. Friends, He put these words in
- 23:56here on purpose. We cannot gloss over them or
- 24:00pretend that they're not there, or just willingly be ignorant of
- 24:05them and not actually meditate upon them and ask God what do
- 24:10they mean? And ask the Holy Spirit to help
- 24:12us to understand the words that are written in His eternal book.
- 24:21We'll end on 18. But grow in grace and in the
- 24:29knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
- 24:34To Him be glory both now and forever.
- 24:38Amen. That's the calling, friends.
- 24:41That's the mandate, friends, to grow, to mature, to continue in
- 24:47the grace and the knowledge of Jesus Christ.
- 24:51We don't just enter in to the saving knowledge of the Lord
- 24:56Jesus Christ and stay baby Christians, for the rest of our
- 24:59life. And there are many who were
- 25:01there, and they'll enter into heaven as they escaped out of a
- 25:05fire. But for those of us who put our
- 25:09nose to the grinder, who refuse to live lukewarm lives, there's
- 25:18a crown that's awaiting for you. And Jesus Christ is worthy of
- 25:23all your attention and adoration and affection.
- 25:28And then we don't get to just live however we want to live.
- 25:39Count the cost. I hope you've been blessed by
- 25:42this amazing chapter in God's Word.
- 25:45I know I sure have. Praying for you.
- 25:49Love you. We'll see you back here
- 25:51tomorrow. God bless you.
