- 0:17As veterans, we begin new lives when we leave our military
- 0:22service. What is faith?
- 0:24How do we incorporate faith in service and after what resources
- 0:29are available? Who do we talk with about faith?
- 0:34These are some of the many questions that one may ponder in
- 0:38searching for answers to the meaning of life.
- 0:41Join The Revivalists and let's search for some answers
- 0:44together. Luke 923 Then he said to them,
- 0:49All, Whoever wants to be my disciple must deny themselves,
- 0:53and take up their cross daily, and follow me.
- 1:17Here we go. I don't know what that was.
- 1:21Today is August 3rd, the year of our Lord 2026.
- 1:25We are live both here in person, in my Home, Office, studio,
- 1:31whatever you want to call this. Had some lunch.
- 1:36We, we, we. Good to go.
- 1:37Come on. Can I cook?
- 1:38Yeah, you can. Hey, I'm telling you, man, that
- 1:42that squash spaghetti was outstanding.
- 1:48Yeah, spaghetti squash. I don't.
- 1:50I try not to do. It was the IT was delicious,
- 1:52the. Pasta stuff, you know, clogged
- 1:55up. Yeah.
- 1:57I love spaghetti squash. I discovered it several years
- 2:00ago. Delicious.
- 2:02Yeah, I I like spaghetti. Squash.
- 2:05It's just to let you guys know who don't believe we actually
- 2:07have a show. I think it was some morph meta
- 2:10images. We're we're right here.
- 2:11Meta can't do this Meta. Meta didn't go to Brooke Hay.
- 2:18So it's hot outside. Sorry I'm I'm fixing my makeup
- 2:23on camera right there. Very hot.
- 2:26It's hot outside. I've been working inside today
- 2:30because I spent those two days outside working on the RV and
- 2:35for those of you who follow me on the from pain to purpose show
- 2:39and you know, man, this, the heat for two days was enough and
- 2:46today I'm like, OK, I'm working inside today.
- 2:48So I've been cleaning up closets.
- 2:51You know, purging, purging stuff.
- 2:53You. Guys knew what I have to take
- 2:55back to to Carrollton in some areas, man, she's been hard at
- 3:01work. It sheds her too hard and hard
- 3:04and. Work.
- 3:05Come on. Here we go.
- 3:08Is that better? That's getting better.
- 3:10There we. Go now.
- 3:14I don't feel like my half of my face is cut off trying to figure
- 3:18this out. Is that better?
- 3:21It's getting there. All right.
- 3:23Sorry about that, folks. A little on air, you know?
- 3:28Yeah, well, I'm not used to having somebody else sit right
- 3:31here to do the show. Hey, I was invited.
- 3:35I'm just. We had some business.
- 3:38We had we had some business to do.
- 3:40Business. We had some business.
- 3:43I don't know. How have you been doing, Daryl?
- 3:45I'm good. You know what?
- 3:46So over the weekend we had a memorial for sister Isabella
- 3:52Gonzalez, who passed away over in Jordan.
- 3:55Wonderful. There wasn't a dry out in the
- 3:58house on on on Saturday nor Sunday.
- 4:01We did the program at Prestonwood Baptist Church in
- 4:05Plano, Carrollton and we did the memorial service at the DFW on
- 4:10Sunday morning. So it was a It was a wonderful
- 4:13opportunity to fellowship with friends and families and
- 4:17different civic and service organizations.
- 4:19But more importantly, it was an opportunity for people who had
- 4:22never been to a memorial service with the IT was very moving do.
- 4:26You think memorial or the fact that it's a military memorial
- 4:30service, is that part of? It so so most people in in that
- 4:35venue, they've never seen a memorial nor have they seen a
- 4:38memorial military service, military service.
- 4:40So it was a, a combination of both the people who spoke,
- 4:44particularly Saturday evening, we had all sorts of state
- 4:48senators, congressional leaders who came and spoke.
- 4:53The president sent a, a special letter to the family.
- 4:57And I must also note to everyone that President Trump, they, they
- 5:03think about him, He has never lied about assisting veterans in
- 5:08their families. He's always been #1 on it.
- 5:11So he said, whatever this family needs, they shall have.
- 5:16From what I understand, Justin, watching my social media that,
- 5:20you know, there was a lot of outpouring of love for her, for
- 5:26her family. Yeah, very young.
- 5:29And, you know, I think so many of us started our military
- 5:34service very young. And so you know when you've got
- 5:38young teenagers, I mean, let's face it, she was a teenager,
- 5:42still had so much to. Look forward.
- 5:45To in future, but you think about what it has done to bring
- 5:52community together. Is it right in a whole different
- 5:59way? I mean, I think in in the
- 6:03context of what you and I have seen with the veteran space,
- 6:07with veteran service organizations that they came
- 6:11together at that event 'cause you were American Legion.
- 6:16I mean, you're a member of BFW as well, but right, but that
- 6:22both BMW was there, American Legion was there, other veteran
- 6:26service organizations were there.
- 6:28So that's it's a critical to have something like that where
- 6:33politics got put aside and it was about serving the family,
- 6:39not being divided. Absolutely.
- 6:41In in the American Legion, the BMW, the Knights of Columbus,
- 6:46the DAV, the Ambitz, the motorcycle riders and and all
- 6:53the other organizations that may have failed to mention that I
- 6:56don't need any dishonor or disrespect.
- 6:58They were out in force. There was nearly well there was
- 7:02standing room on for the event. So we were certainly thankful
- 7:07for us not only to to have some sit, but to be honored.
- 7:11And the the color of the evening day on Sunday was her favorite
- 7:16colors. Sister Gonzalez's favorite
- 7:18colors were purple and black. So I did my portion to
- 7:22represent, you know, purple is the color of royalty.
- 7:25So, you know, as a king sitting next to a queen, but as a king,
- 7:30you know, I, I wear as much purple as possible.
- 7:33I do have AI have a rock in the Brookhaven today.
- 7:36But it was a nice opportunity for us to exhibit our patriotism
- 7:42and our love, care and compassion for the family.
- 7:45Family needs as much mourning and honor respect as as can be
- 7:50deemed appropriate because it is a a critical and an essential
- 7:54time for them to come together as a family.
- 7:56And when they're ready to speak, they will.
- 8:00Cameras were everywhere, of course, and there are people who
- 8:02had nothing to do with the family or the the aspect of what
- 8:06occurred. You know, they want to be on
- 8:07camera because of the opportunity to be on television.
- 8:10We know differently. So let us all take the time not
- 8:14only remember this family, but today.
- 8:17If you have not done it in days going forward, please call
- 8:21someone, please text someone. Please e-mail someone if their
- 8:26e-mail address, the alternate e-mail address, the alternate
- 8:30alternate e-mail address to let them know that you love and care
- 8:33even if they have made themselves an enemy to you.
- 8:36Say hello because we never know when.
- 8:39You're right. Well, you know, I know that even
- 8:42for my own personal life experiences between car wrecks
- 8:48and just living, like you just can't ever tell when you know
- 8:53when your time is. I got to turn the span off, but
- 8:56it's drying my eyes out. Sorry folks, I don't like to
- 8:59reach over like. That.
- 9:02Well, it is warm in here, but the air is blowing right in my
- 9:06eyes and it's drying my eyes out.
- 9:09So. It's dry.
- 9:09I'm bleeding you're why isn't she blinking so much Dad, I
- 9:15can't keep my eyes high graded. It's hey, that's part of you
- 9:21got. Tea over there.
- 9:23I brought my tea in. Go get your tea.
- 9:29Why don't you? If you would please go ahead and
- 9:32lead us into prayer. And then the Father, Son and the
- 9:35Holy Spirit, Lord, we thank you in the name of Christ Jesus, in
- 9:39the presence of the Holy Spirit for another wonderful day of
- 9:41life, strength, more importantly, the aspect of
- 9:46serving you. So Lord, as we go into this
- 9:48program speaking about Jacob's family and the impact that Jacob
- 9:57had on his family, but the moral injury that's associated within
- 10:01his work, we just ask the Lord to be with us God and protect us
- 10:05and give us the words, O Lord, not only the scriptural words,
- 10:08but the words, O Lord, you want us to present to your people.
- 10:11We love you Lord, because you first loved us.
- 10:13It's a wonderful name that is Christ Jesus and the presence of
- 10:16the Holy Spirit that your daughter, son, strength and
- 10:19servants. We say Amen, Amen and Amen,
- 10:22Father, son, Holy Spirit, Amen. This is what I actually look
- 10:26like, in case y'all didn't forgot OK.
- 10:29Hey, you know, Daryl, part of I think the thing that I that I've
- 10:37been reflecting on with this whole story with with these
- 10:43generations, right? But now that we've reached this
- 10:48end of life for Jacob slash Israel and and we're discussing
- 10:56in chapter 49 here in Genesis these blessings that he gave his
- 11:02sons. And, you know, I think we talked
- 11:06a lot last week about the moral injury that Jacob had an
- 11:15experience because of all of this, you know, these years that
- 11:18he missed his son's life. But then, you know, getting this
- 11:24last, I think it was 12 or so years that I'm just kind of
- 11:28going off the top of my memory that, you know, he had 12
- 11:31blessed years with his son but missed all of these great
- 11:35formative years from the time his brother sold him off and,
- 11:40you know, sold Joseph off into slavery.
- 11:43And then and then the sweeping mechanism that Joseph came back
- 11:48into their lives. But this impact, this gets into
- 11:52this diabolical to some degree. You know this.
- 11:59We're both parents and we have kids, but we've also been
- 12:05children ourselves, right? I'm still, my father is still
- 12:08alive. I think your family, your.
- 12:12Parents are all gone, but. But there's still those family
- 12:16dynamics, right? We've had experiences with
- 12:19family members that we must say, with our mothers, right.
- 12:25So while this is not quite so much because it's the father
- 12:29side, because Rachel had passed away early and Joseph and, you
- 12:35know, and Benjamin especially did not get the mothering.
- 12:39They would have been mothered by the concubines that were in, you
- 12:47know, Yeah, the ice in Joseph's in his family for lack of better
- 12:54work family. And it's probably we're getting
- 12:57some some downright disgusting advice.
- 13:03Ike Schooling. Ike Schooling.
- 13:05Yeah, Ike Schooling. So no wonder they were way
- 13:07right. Tipsy topsy topsy turd.
- 13:10But but there's this whole, you know, dynamic when you know, you
- 13:16have these he, he. So let's look at it from from
- 13:21Joseph's perspective. In many ways, he has gone
- 13:27through life without his father too.
- 13:31Not just not having his mother because Rachel passed away, but
- 13:36his brothers took away his father as well.
- 13:40So he grew up in a father's, you know. 13 years gone.
- 13:46Yeah. And and yet he still had this
- 13:51resilience to get through what he has gone through the forced,
- 13:57you know, labor to work for the prison.
- 14:01Was he not the you know what that the the original guy that
- 14:06where his wife turned on. Yeah, Yeah, that, you know, she
- 14:13turned him and and he ended up going to prison.
- 14:16So he went down this trail of some very bad situations and was
- 14:22fatherless. You.
- 14:23See, like every time something went up, warm it it.
- 14:27It went down right, Right. But he but he grew up without
- 14:31his father. And I think in some ways we
- 14:34think about military life and how many that the military is
- 14:42apparent, right? The military is apparent.
- 14:44But you think about a lot of the kids who grew up without their
- 14:50fathers being present deployed. And so in some ways we could
- 14:55even think about Joe Joseph was deployed.
- 15:00He was deployed to this foreign land doing all these foreign
- 15:05things. So he grew up without, you know,
- 15:09the guidance and and he didn't suck at it.
- 15:13He didn't inhale deeply about the about about the direction
- 15:20God impacted his life, absent apparent, being present but
- 15:28forgotten. In in the aspect of what you
- 15:32just said, when Zelika, that's her extra biblical name that's
- 15:38been found in extra biblical sources.
- 15:41Zelika's part of his wife tried to seduce Joseph relentless
- 15:45every single day she. Thought he was the pool.
- 15:48Boy, she was, she was. Hey, it says Joseph was handsome
- 15:52and well built and the leaker wanted some of that.
- 15:55So. Yeah, that's what it.
- 15:57Says so. So what we understand is this.
- 16:04Joseph spoke out and said basically, how could I sin
- 16:11against God with you? He's telling her you're already
- 16:16married. Have someone, which indicates to
- 16:19me also that this wasn't Zelika's first attempt in any of
- 16:24this. And Potiphar knew he Potter was
- 16:27an older man, right? And he was just married for the
- 16:30sake of being married because, you know, he was an older guy
- 16:32gone that. Was that was the cultural
- 16:36society what it was? That's what it was, gave her
- 16:37name, gave her status and such. So we understand it.
- 16:41But the person who suffered through this, but God allowed
- 16:45with Joseph. Joseph spent, if you are not
- 16:47aware of this, he spent thirteen years in prison for something he
- 16:53didn't do. When he met with the cupbearer
- 16:56and the Baker and explained the dreams to them, they forgot
- 17:01about him because he asked them when you see Pharaoh, would you
- 17:04tell him I'm in here for something I didn't do?
- 17:07I, I don't deserve to be here. They forgot all about him.
- 17:10Until Pharaoh had a dream, nobody could interpret it.
- 17:15They all knew what that meant. Because if you can't interpret
- 17:18the King's dream, you're going to get executed.
- 17:20You know what the You know what the cup Barrett did?
- 17:23He went to Pharaoh's a dude God. Somebody but the.
- 17:30Baker already. Baker was already.
- 17:32Gone. And he explained that the
- 17:34federal, he said he gave, he told us what was going to happen
- 17:37to both of us. And Federals did not hesitate,
- 17:40sent for him, right? They went down to the printer,
- 17:44got Joseph, cleaned him up, shaved him, brought him before
- 17:47Federal and now we know he. Got promoted that day.
- 17:50That not the next day, not that night, same day.
- 17:54And and he gave him the ring. Gave him the singing ring and he
- 17:57got him away. Yeah, and all the best clothes
- 18:04and everything. He was Egyptian after that
- 18:08Egyptian leather. He was that guy.
- 18:12So it's, I, you know, it's funny thinking about that moral injury
- 18:21side of things because that's really what happened.
- 18:24And I think a lot of our military veterans especially
- 18:28and, and to even some degree their families, because they got
- 18:34deployed and a lot of these, you know, a lot of veterans, they
- 18:39grew up. I grew up in, I mean, I mean,
- 18:41not that I didn't still have my parents, but I went in when I
- 18:45was 19. And the military did to some
- 18:49degree very much shape the way I am right now.
- 18:54I mean, the Army motto said be all you can be.
- 18:58And I don't think I've ever stopped being I all I can be.
- 19:00I mean, you look at my life, it kind of it kind of looks like
- 19:04that, you know, that my life, my life just works out that way.
- 19:11So I don't know. Is there is there any impact
- 19:17that you've seen in your life or maybe the military did that for
- 19:23you? It it happened on a day that I
- 19:28was standing watch. So in the Navy you stand
- 19:30watches. So on your on your day that you
- 19:34stand watch, you stand 4 hour watches.
- 19:40So on this particular watch there was a senior chief, he was
- 19:43an EA. He says, hey partly can I ask
- 19:48you a question? Say yes Sir.
- 19:51He said why are you in debt? So debt was the the division
- 19:55that tied up the ship. We did underway replenishments,
- 19:58we got mail. We all this stuff right?
- 19:59Without us, nothing happened. You don't get tied to the ship,
- 20:03you don't go on liberty or anything, right.
- 20:05So he says he asked me a question.
- 20:08I said I had nothing but disdain.
- 20:11What face? I dropped my head.
- 20:14He said, what's wrong? I said I I didn't do good on the
- 20:16ASVAB. He says what's what?
- 20:20What happened? I said.
- 20:22Well, the recruiters came in one day saying all you got to do is
- 20:25take the exam, you can go home. I'm trying to go home, man.
- 20:28And so in my I didn't go retake the Advair, he says, So what was
- 20:34your AFQTI said 35. I said, man, yeah, I can help
- 20:38you with that. Was it math?
- 20:39Probably. And so this man took the time
- 20:44with me. He was there nine months until
- 20:47he went to his next duty station.
- 20:49He took the time for me with 0 + 0 all the way to Boolean
- 20:55algebra, geometry and trig walk me through every aspect of the
- 21:01of the ASVAB. He was the father for me that my
- 21:06parents, my stepfather or my biological father was not
- 21:09because they didn't know any of this math so or know my mother.
- 21:13So when I was able to transfer to the USS Missouri some years
- 21:19later, I determined I was going to go take the ASVAB, got up,
- 21:24took the ASVAB with the point where I need me.
- 21:27Took the ASVAB at 5:30 in the morning and I could do anything
- 21:31in the Navy outside of intelligence because you needed
- 21:34a 1 something to do. I got an, I got an 85.
- 21:37And so I can do anything I basically wanted to be able to
- 21:40do. Here's the point I'm making,
- 21:41everybody. You never know the time or the
- 21:45day that God has an appointment for you to be at.
- 21:49See, your team Stark was my divine appointment that day.
- 21:53Now then, the guy who was getting us, hey, man, let me get
- 21:56it too close. But at the same time, he cared
- 21:59enough because he wanted to see me out of this position to do
- 22:03something else. God wants you to be out of your
- 22:07position to do something else. But you can't be out of position
- 22:10serving him. You can't be your own God.
- 22:13You have to be a godly, have a godly mentality to serve God.
- 22:17And even I talked about this earlier, because when you're
- 22:20your own God, you have nothing but turmoil in your life and you
- 22:24wonder why these things are happening to me because you
- 22:26don't recognize the true God well.
- 22:29It's like being on the merry go round and thinking that, hey,
- 22:32I'm on the roller coaster of life.
- 22:33No, you're on the merry go round thinking something's going to
- 22:36change, but you're just, you're just doing circles.
- 22:39And is that? Working for you?
- 22:41No, it's not working. For all of us who can attest to
- 22:44that, you'll know that that's true.
- 22:46It's not working and it won't work.
- 22:49So I wanted to kind of go in and look at some of the other, you
- 22:54know, sense we talked about the blessings that I think we've
- 22:58gotten through Judah last week and was going to start with
- 23:04Zebulon, who is supposed to he lives.
- 23:07He said you will live by the seashore become a haven of ships
- 23:12and his border will extend his side on.
- 23:14I mean, you think about the interpretation of that you're
- 23:17going to you're going to live in a pretty decent place.
- 23:20You're not doing. That.
- 23:22There, right. There's blessings there.
- 23:24Blessings. I mean, you got some, you got
- 23:27some geography and and you got ships.
- 23:31Sound like Darrell at the lake house.
- 23:35And haven for ships means, Hey, you're going to make some money
- 23:38too. You you're going to be doing
- 23:41right. You're going to be doing good.
- 23:43Is the car is a raw boned donkey.
- 23:46Now let's look at raw bone meant.
- 23:50Let me go back to what it said or strong.
- 23:54So never. I've never heard that phrase
- 23:56before. We have no it means what to us?
- 24:02I don't know. I mean, he says you're going to
- 24:04be a strong donkey lying down between two saddlebags and
- 24:10saddlebags means or campfires. That's a new phrase that I
- 24:13haven't heard before. When he sees how good in his
- 24:16resting place and how pleasant is his land, he will bend his
- 24:19shoulder the burden and submit to forced labor.
- 24:23I mean, I kind of read that man, you're strong and you're going
- 24:26to work hard. You're.
- 24:26Going to work hard. In fact, he's going to work hard
- 24:29in the Jacob. I mean that that to me does not
- 24:34bode well about what his daddy dearest thought about him.
- 24:40Because so he was caught. Up in mischief too.
- 24:42Huh. Yeah, I mean that's.
- 24:46Why? I read and that you've got up.
- 24:47In mischief too, you've got up, there are consequences.
- 24:49Consequences. That's what I read is there's
- 24:52some consequences for the things that you've done and you're
- 24:55going to have to, you're just going to have to toil.
- 24:58And how does Jacob know all of this?
- 25:00He was an observant father. Well, of course, yeah.
- 25:03He knew his. He knew these boys.
- 25:06I mean, they were all living together with him.
- 25:10He saw them even when they had this opportunity for a restart
- 25:15in Egypt. And apparently, none of that
- 25:18changed. Moving did not change their
- 25:21behavior great opportunity for do over just like for a lot of
- 25:25military families. I think every time you PCs, so
- 25:28they PCs from where they were to Egypt and nothing changed.
- 25:35Nothing changed, you know, except for Judah did have a
- 25:39change. He had to come to Jesus in.
- 25:41The aftermath of the other things.
- 25:43Right. He and his father.
- 25:45Yeah, he had. He had a, you know,
- 25:48reconciliation with God that, you know, he was going to do
- 25:51better. When we get to.
- 25:53Dan will provide justice for his people, one of the tribes of
- 25:57Israel. Dan will be a serpent by the
- 25:59roadside, a Viper along the path that bites the horse's heels so
- 26:04that it's riders, so that it's riders tumble backwards.
- 26:08That does not sound good. He said Dan here means he
- 26:13provides justice. That's the name Dan.
- 26:18His name means that he will provide justice.
- 26:22Not that he's going to provide justice what the name means, but
- 26:25that's what the name means. But he's man to be treated like
- 26:29or be told you're like a serpent along the road.
- 26:32You're going to be snapping at whoever you can snap at.
- 26:37That doesn't sound too bad. No, that's not a.
- 26:40Compliment. There's no justice there.
- 26:41That is not a compliment at all. Jacob knew his sons.
- 26:49But then he says, I look for your deliverance, O Lord, you
- 26:52know, to me, I'm reading that. And I thought, he's like, take
- 26:59me from this, right? He's ready.
- 27:04I mean, it's there's got to be something different than what
- 27:09he's been around. And he knows that this, these
- 27:13boys that he raised were not what he would have done.
- 27:19You know, I mean, I think if he knew he'd be had a choice and it
- 27:22was Rachel, it would have been him, Rachel, Joseph and
- 27:26Benjamin. But he got, you know, stuck with
- 27:30Leah and all the ice, the concubines, because that's how
- 27:35society was. He wasn't invested with them.
- 27:39And I think his parenting reflected as well.
- 27:44We can chuckle because even I really have.
- 27:47We shuffled about, Jacob and Leah and Bill, Bill high and
- 27:52Rachel like on the sidelines, like watch watches, all
- 27:55uncovered, right? But I don't think Jacob, outside
- 28:01of having a righteous, holy choice, he didn't have a choice
- 28:04because he had no idea what Laban was going to do to him,
- 28:06right? So he, his line, right was what
- 28:12his line was. It was not the line God wanted.
- 28:17What he got was what he got that was righteous and holy in terms
- 28:22of Scripture was Benjamin and Joseph and a little bit of Judah
- 28:28and a little bit of the gentleman we we spoke of
- 28:31earlier. I was about Zebulon.
- 28:33So when, when, when Jacob goes down the line talking about his
- 28:39sons, he knows them, but he also knows that each of them is a
- 28:44part of him of the mischief that he did growing up as well.
- 28:49That's why he he knows them because he knows him.
- 28:52But he more importantly, he knows who God is.
- 28:55And God is speaking. This isn't Jacob just talking.
- 28:58This is God speaking to outline the outcome of these children.
- 29:03Well, he knows that his time has come.
- 29:05But it was, I had this this thought in my head that came up
- 29:09when you were speaking. And, and it was what he had
- 29:14learned along the way was to go along is to get along or get
- 29:19along is to go along, right? I mean, how many people you got
- 29:23to think about it, no matter which organization you're in,
- 29:27whether it's the military could be a veteran service
- 29:30organization. And there's this inclination.
- 29:34Well, to go along is to get along.
- 29:36How many people roll into perpetuating what everybody else
- 29:43is doing instead of saying, no, that's not right?
- 29:48And I'm, I'm going to refrain from that.
- 29:52I mean, there's lots of temptation out there to not be
- 29:56strong. And that in itself is a moral
- 30:00injury, right? And how do we as revivalists
- 30:06start bringing people back to the right path and say, listen,
- 30:11you don't have to go along to get along.
- 30:14You know, one of the things sterile that I think is very
- 30:19common in our culture is the amount of alcohol, you know, at,
- 30:25at, at the different. Here, wine spirits.
- 30:29Yeah, I mean, that's what is, that is what you know, Those
- 30:34posts are a bar. Water.
- 30:36Hole, and it it is, it's not really feeding the soul.
- 30:41And and we know we ain't making this up.
- 30:44We we know, yeah. There are very few posts that I
- 30:48know that are really about serving the people and they are
- 30:54a bar in and of itself, and that's really.
- 30:57But the bottom line is making a profit.
- 30:58Yeah, and I get it. You know, I get it.
- 31:02I'm not saying that you shouldn't drink, but it's not
- 31:08the answer. And I think people are looking
- 31:11into the bottle as if it's the answer.
- 31:14When she's saying this and she got an addictions counselor,
- 31:17right? Yeah, but.
- 31:20I I hear. You but people.
- 31:22But people need to recognize that, right?
- 31:25And how? Do we help?
- 31:26Them you got to recognize it first, yes.
- 31:29Are you looking at your post? What is its mission?
- 31:33Is, is the post mission to provide services that are
- 31:37helping people or is it about that you know, the liquid, the
- 31:44the liquid answer. And you know what we as revivals
- 31:49are trying to say? Listen, I was telling you about
- 31:52this spiel, right? I went, I've gone on the summit
- 31:56and I'm giving this spiel about the radio show.
- 31:59And we are a veteran ministry geared towards helping with the
- 32:07crisis of moral injury into healing and recovery, putting
- 32:11God as the true north on the moral compass.
- 32:16And when we have God as the true nor, then we can actually start
- 32:22finding our way again, You know, and I think that that's where we
- 32:27look at this, you know, these verses.
- 32:31And I think in some ways, Joseph or sorry Jacob had had maybe
- 32:40wandered away from recognizing where things were, you know,
- 32:45where he where his heart was. He got so him, you know, I want
- 32:51to say stuck in his mourning for Rachel and for losing Joseph out
- 32:58of his life, that he lost some of that that true north side of
- 33:03things. He lost way on his moral compass
- 33:06and and this reconciliation with Joseph has helped him to find
- 33:14his path back and recognize wow, now I'm really seeing my kids
- 33:21for who they are, that they are the acts that they have been
- 33:25lost from God. But I'm not lost.
- 33:29I mean, this is to me when I'm reading that I look for your
- 33:32deliverance, O Lord, that he's having this aha moment and he's
- 33:39not lost of where his heart and soul is 'cause it's like
- 33:44something I was telling you about a while ago about the soul
- 33:47repair. That's really what I mean.
- 33:53I think soul repair is something that I heard when they were
- 33:57originally talking about moral injury from Richmond College
- 34:04here in Fort Worth, the TCU. So it was they, they, they had
- 34:13presented that moral injury was really about soul.
- 34:20It's, it's an injury to your soul.
- 34:22We keep saying moral injury, but they were really referring to it
- 34:28as a your soul is injured, right?
- 34:32And I think as I've read this and gotten to know both Joseph
- 34:37and Jacob through, you know, through these chapters that
- 34:42there was some soul injury with what had happened.
- 34:46Joseph was able to rise above and not get into the I mean he
- 34:53because he could have been very worldly and want revenge on his
- 34:59brothers. He's going to proceed.
- 35:00And he, he would have been justified in doing so, right?
- 35:05Right. But not by God.
- 35:07And he didn't, you know, he has given them the best opportunity
- 35:11ever. And, and, you know, there is a
- 35:14certain justice that he received.
- 35:16See, my, my getting his position wasn't so bad after all, was it?
- 35:21You know, but he doesn't have to say that, but he knows that.
- 35:25But he didn't have to. He's not boasting about it.
- 35:30And you know, I think Jacob, even though he has missed his
- 35:35son all of these years, recognizes that that original
- 35:41dream that he was told by his son Joseph, right?
- 35:48And he was like, wow, wow. You know, that's a lot to.
- 35:53That's a lot even. God could have made him #1 but
- 35:59it wouldn't have for us today. It wouldn't flow with the actual
- 36:03narrative of who Joseph was, who he is, and who he's become.
- 36:09So #2 is not shabby at all. You know?
- 36:12You know, actually, many organizations, you'd rather be
- 36:14the number 2 than the number one.
- 36:18We talked about it today, you know, because God has a plan for
- 36:21you. The God.
- 36:22God's plan is this. If you walk through this door,
- 36:26you're going to get everything you think you're going to get,
- 36:29but I'm trying to shield you from something because there's
- 36:31something better I'm going to something greater I'm going to
- 36:34have for you. We have to listen to what the
- 36:37Lord our God wants. Joseph's in prison, 13 years.
- 36:41He's still walking with God. He's still doing everything he's
- 36:45supposed to do with more in that prison.
- 36:47In fact, the Bible tells us the sacred Scriptures that I love to
- 36:51say is that the, the, the head jailer had him doing it.
- 36:57Joseph was running the prison basically, right?
- 37:01And so he wasn't just chained to some cell and he, he was
- 37:04actually moving about doing things.
- 37:06That's how he was able to speak with the Baker and the cupbearer
- 37:11because if he was just chained to a cell, that actually God
- 37:14would have made it happen. But realistically, God needed
- 37:16this timeline to, to develop and be exposed to us.
- 37:20It is realistic, plausible, it's amenable, all those things to
- 37:25make sure that we get the message of hope, faith and love
- 37:28here and all that occurred with Joseph in the Lord thy God.
- 37:34Absolutely, absolutely getting into Gad, he said.
- 37:39He will be attacked by van der Braiders.
- 37:42He will, but he will attack them at their heels.
- 37:46I mean, to me, I read that. Yep, you're you're just, you're
- 37:51bad and you're going to get attacked.
- 37:56But God. But God, but you're going to be
- 37:58able to attack back. I mean, he's going to, you know,
- 38:01you, you get what you. You do, you sow what?
- 38:04You read That's right. That's what that's what I read
- 38:07out of that one. Careful what you dish out
- 38:10because it will come back. Amen.
- 38:12Asher's food will be rich. He will provide delicacies, spit
- 38:16for king. So by the way, my future son in
- 38:21law's son is Asher. That's his name.
- 38:26So when I read this, you know when I read this and saw about
- 38:30the name. Asher, you forgot.
- 38:32You forgot all about Joseph. Now I know you know.
- 38:37She never got all about Jacob Benjamin, and Joseph is Asher
- 38:42now. He will provide delicacies fit
- 38:52for a king. So funny thing about Asher
- 38:54though, he is a picky eater and yeah, he's not going to eat it
- 38:58if it's not right for his and. Now he has Grandma Ma who's
- 39:03going to always tell him he's going to always have Nana.
- 39:08Shame with how great Asher is because she going to take in the
- 39:10scripture. I understand him more that you
- 39:18know. Names do mean.
- 39:19Names do mean something. You know, that was kind of neat
- 39:22to read that. Just the personal reflection on
- 39:24the side of things. Now, Naphtali is a doe set free
- 39:28that bears beautiful farms. That means that, you know that
- 39:33to me. He's going to get around and
- 39:35he's going to have lots of girls.
- 39:36Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. I don't think that one you know
- 39:43needs further explanation. When Josiah became king at 13,
- 39:47it was nice to be king. But but Joseph is a fruitful
- 39:52vine, a fruitful vine near a spring whose branches climb over
- 39:56a wall with bitterness. Archers attack him, They shot at
- 40:00him with hostility, but his bow remains steady.
- 40:04His strong arms stayed limber because of the hand of the
- 40:08Mighty One of Jacob. Because of the shepherd, the
- 40:11rock of Israel, because of your Father's God who helps you,
- 40:15because of the Almighty who blesses you with blessings of
- 40:18the heavens above, blessings of the deep that lies below,
- 40:22blessings of the breast and womb.
- 40:24Your Father's blessings are greater than the blessings of
- 40:28the ancient mountains, then the bounty of the age-old hills.
- 40:32Let all of these rest on the head of Joseph, on the brow of
- 40:37the Prince, among his brothers. I mean to me that just the
- 40:41volume of what Jacob spoke about Joseph says a lot.
- 40:49And he didn't have a tribe. He would just grab his his
- 40:53tribe, Joseph his he was grafted in because Ephraim and.
- 41:01But none of those other tribes would have existed without
- 41:04Joseph. Without Joseph doing what he was
- 41:08supposed to. Do.
- 41:10Right. I mean, I just was like, man.
- 41:14The family would have killed all of.
- 41:15Them exactly. We wouldn't even have.
- 41:18We wouldn't be. Having.
- 41:19We'd be talking about Joseph. We wouldn't, yeah.
- 41:22I mean, OK, we would have barely one chap, you know, one book
- 41:27almost. 3 pages. Almost one book.
- 41:30You know, this is most of Genesis.
- 41:33You know, we would only have up to here for now if it hadn't
- 41:37been for Joseph. Yeah.
- 41:40And Pharaoh still had to say yes.
- 41:43Right there was still dependent, but but that lets you know
- 41:46something about Pharaoh had some faith in what Joseph was doing
- 41:51that trust was there. That means that his, he, he, he
- 41:57knew that Joseph was responsible, he was accountable.
- 42:01He, the credibility was there. You know his character.
- 42:06His character rose above. Everything else, his character,
- 42:10I mean, there's everything else that we have been seeing.
- 42:13I mean, I haven't really, you know, you look at people and,
- 42:18you know, even in the context and we're not saying that Joseph
- 42:21probably didn't have some bad days, that he probably.
- 42:24Human and mortal. Right.
- 42:27But he didn't. He didn't sink to the brothers
- 42:30levels. These days, it's not.
- 42:34Written the scripture said it'll tell you be evil, it'll it'll
- 42:37put it in there. Yeah, none of none of that was
- 42:40there. I mean, even when Jacob spoke
- 42:44just now about Joseph was his character was nearly flawless.
- 42:53Nearly. I mean, we're not saying he
- 42:56didn't have a bad moment here or there.
- 42:58And the reason why he's not the reason why it's not perfect,
- 43:03it's because he is human. Immortal, right?
- 43:06Right. He was not Jesus.
- 43:07He was not he was not not close even today.
- 43:10And we talk about when we go down and we get to the the
- 43:14southern Kingdom and the northern Kingdom, we'll see who
- 43:16the godly kings and the non godly kings were.
- 43:19There were only a few. And we take, we take us being
- 43:23revivalists from 4, ASA, Hezekiah, Josiah and
- 43:30Jehoshaphat, they were The Revivalists in the Southern
- 43:33Kingdom. In fact, they had a revival,
- 43:36we'll get to it when they had a revival where the northern and
- 43:39southern Kingdom came because they were still family members
- 43:42throughout, right? And some came to the southern
- 43:45Kingdom with the revival and state and others, they went back
- 43:48to reverting back with what they're doing.
- 43:50So there's always hope when we choose God first, when we choose
- 43:55not to be our own God, we see the benefits of serving him.
- 44:00No, you're not going to have spectacular days on you're going
- 44:03to have some subpar days. You're going to take one for the
- 44:05team a lot. But at the same time, we know
- 44:08God is the he's the coach, he's the owner.
- 44:12He's more than Jerry Jones could ever be.
- 44:15He he, we know that when we, even I, it's proven when we pray
- 44:20to the Lord our God in earnest, we're bless you because he, he,
- 44:25he shows us things that we're supposed to see and demonstrates
- 44:29other things that we're supposed to know.
- 44:31So if we fail, we fail because we fail, not because he failed
- 44:35us. Right, right.
- 44:38Absolutely. And Joseph had that same mantra.
- 44:41So The funny thing when you read, you know, like going into
- 44:44Benjamin. Benjamin is a ravenous wolf.
- 44:48In the morning he devours the parade.
- 44:51In the evening, he divides the plunder.
- 44:54So to me, you know, there's that.
- 44:57I think, you know, this is where he's he's analyzed each of his
- 45:01kids and found a different animal.
- 45:05Maybe you know, this is where that personality thing which
- 45:08which animal? Are you a warrior though?
- 45:10Even you got to go in and sack and plunder, right?
- 45:14But and then it says he. But then he goes and divides.
- 45:18So he he, he's not afraid to get out there and be the wolf that
- 45:23he needs, because what he's not going to be selfish, he's going
- 45:27to share with everybody else. I mean, that's a pretty comp,
- 45:31you know, pretty big compliment. But but it was like, you know,
- 45:33as I was reading this and looked at the different animals and
- 45:37mentions, you know, you, you have that office, you know, you
- 45:43know, where you're having a meeting and you know, the
- 45:46icebreaker. If you were an animal, what
- 45:49animal would you be? I mean, is this where they
- 45:51really get the, you know, we're both, you know, doctorate level
- 45:57students? Is this where some, you know,
- 46:01mental psychiatrist or whatever, you know, decided where they
- 46:06mentioned it here in Genesis, Maybe we should do a mental
- 46:09study and see which animal do people recognize themselves as?
- 46:14And you know, if they identify, what does that mean about them?
- 46:20And and and just so I need to note this for the record going
- 46:23forward, I identify as a Jaguar. OK, what is that supposed to
- 46:31mean? I have No Fear.
- 46:33I have No Fear that you will know about.
- 46:35Oh, OK, OK. But then we get into, you know,
- 46:40oh, so before I moved into the death of Jacob, we don't have a
- 46:43whole lot of time left. So, you know, you think about
- 46:50the description in both Benjamin's and Joseph's, you
- 46:56know, character things. I think that's where a lot of
- 47:00military veterans are going to find themselves in.
- 47:04And I say that because they they are not afraid to serve, knowing
- 47:13that they are serving other people, not of themselves And I.
- 47:17And I, I'm not trying to make everybody out into a hero, but
- 47:23the character of what these, you know, these two sons, I think
- 47:32falls in line with a lot of military veterans.
- 47:36And, and if we're trying to look at the moral injury, healing and
- 47:39recovery side of things, the reason why we have done what we
- 47:44have done, we, we have done it not in and of for ourselves, but
- 47:49for the greater good. I don't know.
- 47:52How do you take that? Does you just say understand
- 47:55what I'm saying? When we elected to enlist, what
- 48:00was explained to us, we even took the harder we did.
- 48:05Those of us who are sitting here right now, we took it to heart.
- 48:08We understood the risks. You know, Sister Isabella
- 48:12Gonzalez, she understood the risk.
- 48:14We don't know when, where or how and we went forward.
- 48:18It's the same thing in life. It's a life partner with your
- 48:21husband, your wife, your children.
- 48:23We understand the UPS, the downs, the indifferences.
- 48:27We understand the risks involved in things.
- 48:30So, but we understand that there's no risk in serving God,
- 48:33right? That's what we really
- 48:36understand. There's no risk in serving him.
- 48:38Why? Because he doesn't make us serve
- 48:42him anywhere else. You, there's, there's a
- 48:43commitment. You, you.
- 48:44We volunteered to be voluntold by being in the military, but we
- 48:49know that it's not God. God is in the midst of all of
- 48:53that. But the Lord our God doesn't
- 48:55make us do anything. We have a choice to serve him or
- 48:59not. Joseph had a choice to serve him
- 49:02or not, and he made the right choice in the right decision.
- 49:06No matter the hardships, follow him and it bears out in the
- 49:09scripture. And I think it's the choice of
- 49:13how he chose to rise above the circumstances, not being stuck
- 49:18in the circumstances. And I think it's the biggest
- 49:21thing if you're looking at how do we move that needle, Darrell,
- 49:26on the DSM 5 from moral injury. I mean, this is the biggest
- 49:30thing I keep seeing. A lot of, you know, great
- 49:34professionals talk about moral injury, but they don't move.
- 49:39They don't talk about the healing in the recovery side.
- 49:43Well, that's why I said the spiel that I said is, is we're
- 49:47putting God as the true nor back in the moral compass.
- 49:52And that's how we start moving the needle on the moral healing
- 49:56and recovery. So, I mean, you know, we hear
- 50:01people talk about, well, I I'm a whatever abuse victim, OK, how
- 50:08about being the victor? I mean, that's this is meant to
- 50:12help move that needle on being a moral in the go from moral
- 50:19healing injury into healing into recovery.
- 50:23So your moral victor over whatever trauma that you have
- 50:29succumbed to, you are recovering from it.
- 50:35There is a character on television, his name is Victor
- 50:38Newman. His name was something else,
- 50:41right? And he ran away from an
- 50:43orphanage and he changed his name to Victor Newman.
- 50:47He was victorious being a new man.
- 50:51So that's him. That's his story.
- 50:54He's sticking to it. We all can become victorious new
- 50:58people if we choose to. Joseph chose to be a victorious
- 51:03new person not because of his promotion from Pharaoh.
- 51:06He lived that life out. It bore out.
- 51:08For we can witness it. And we too can be Josephs.
- 51:13We too can be Deborahs. We too can be Edos.
- 51:16We too can be Solomon's. Before he committed the the
- 51:20sins, but he repented. We too can be David before,
- 51:24yeah, you know, during and after he repeat because the Bible
- 51:27tells us he was a man after God's own heart.
- 51:29So we took and beat these people if we decide to do that
- 51:35properly. Did I ever tell you the story
- 51:37about I had AI met a guy I was no, I'm not a guy.
- 51:43He was an older man, but I was into doing some multi level
- 51:51marketing stuff and and so I'm meting to giving the products.
- 51:57He paid for it and he said what is your greatest power?
- 52:02I was like, what do you mean? What's my greatest power?
- 52:06You know, stood there, where are the in the gravel parking lot
- 52:09because Justin is well, you know, it's not out of the
- 52:12country. And I said, you know, I think
- 52:17prayer is my greatest power, the power of prayer.
- 52:20He goes, you know, that's that's a good answer, pretty good
- 52:23answer. I'm not going to, you know, I'm
- 52:25not going to take that away from you, But but he says that's not
- 52:31the right answer. And I was like, and he goes,
- 52:36it's the power to choose. It's not, it's not, you know,
- 52:42selecting an option. It is actually choosing the
- 52:46power to choose. He goes because your power of
- 52:51prayer meant that you had to choose to pray it.
- 52:56The power of choice comes before everything else that you do.
- 53:02And when he said that, I was like, oh.
- 53:09Both are correct answers, but it is the power to choose because
- 53:13we can choose otherwise. Yeah, but when we choose to
- 53:17pray, often it's because it's the calamity, it's the following
- 53:21us, and we want God to get us out of the triple.
- 53:23Jump Yeah, yeah, anyways. This is true.
- 53:27It is. And I'm certain that Joseph felt
- 53:30as though that he was going to stay in that Pitbull jaw forever
- 53:33and, and God showed him that No sign.
- 53:37All right, we got to we got to jump into the death of Jacob.
- 53:41So he said. Then he gave me these
- 53:43instructions. I'm out to be gathered to my
- 53:45people very much. So We I'm not going to read all
- 53:48of that, but you want me to read?
- 53:49OK, bury me with my father's in The Cave in the field of Ephron
- 53:53the Hittite, The Cave in the field of Mac Macphila near Mamre
- 53:59and and Canaan, which Abraham bought as a burial place from
- 54:04Ephron the Hittite along with the field.
- 54:06There Abraham with his wife Sarah were buried.
- 54:10There Isaac and his wife Rebecca were buried, and there I buried
- 54:14Leah. The field and The Cave in it
- 54:16were bought from the Hittites. When Jacob had finished giving
- 54:20instructions to his sons, he drew his feet up into the bed,
- 54:24breathed his last, and was gathered to his people.
- 54:27This was all this happened in one session.
- 54:30He knew he was. He knew these were his, his last
- 54:35words, the blessings that he gave.
- 54:38And here's my final instructions about how to bury you.
- 54:43Don't bury me in Egypt, bury me in Canaan, right?
- 54:45Indicate, indicate I don't want you to spend any more money.
- 54:49That's right. I want you to make this journey
- 54:52for me. I mean, that's, you know.
- 54:55He was precise. He was precise.
- 54:57That was very thought out. Very, I want to say historical
- 55:05too, right? Because I think he wanted
- 55:08everybody to remember where you came from.
- 55:12And don't forget everybody, Jacob was in the line of all the
- 55:19others who came before him, but particularly Abraham, Isaac and
- 55:23his father Jacob, right, Jacob to to his twelve sons.
- 55:27So let us not forget the lineage here.
- 55:30The lineage is going to come back in Exodus.
- 55:35He's going to come back in Numbers and Leviticus and
- 55:39Deuteronomy. It's, it's, it's, it's going to
- 55:41be all of that because everything is is listed that you
- 55:45don't lose sight on where we come from.
- 55:48Yes, we were perhaps grafted in, but I'll tell you this, being
- 55:52grafted in is better, not being in at all.
- 55:57Well, you know, I think to have this kind of, I mean, how many
- 56:05people have you ever put together what your plan is,
- 56:08where you're going to be buried, what's going to happen to you
- 56:11with you? I have.
- 56:12It's probably going to change. Well, somebody might change it
- 56:15for instead of them buried in my cremate.
- 56:17No, no. I mean, I, I have a binder down
- 56:23here where I started some of that and I'm like, you got
- 56:26bullet. Points.
- 56:27No, I got the book and I never, you know, you kind of think it's
- 56:31not going to happen to me. We have to do it y'all, because
- 56:34we don't know. We don't know Wayne, but I mean.
- 56:38Your children of mine are going to be in the hey.
- 56:41Did she leave us? Something I know they're going
- 56:44to. I'm with the house.
- 56:45I'm with the house, you know. There'll be a war, there'll be a
- 56:48war. Well, so we made it through
- 56:53chapter 49 and next week we'll we'll do 50 and that will finish
- 57:00us up with with with Genesis. But I think we had talked about
- 57:06doing another maybe S or episode or two to just kind of unpack
- 57:14the highlights and what we've learned from Genesis.
- 57:17So we're not going to try, you know, we're not going to try to
- 57:20just immediately. We're not hurting.
- 57:22We're. I'm going to jump into Exodus
- 57:26right away, OK? We're going to finish these
- 57:30thoughts about what the lessons from Genesis.
- 57:34I think there's a lot to learn and so much, Darrell, I think is
- 57:39that we have, I mean, we've both agreed that we as humanity have
- 57:44not changed very much even since the beginning of Genesis Zero.
- 57:49I mean, let's be real. But it gets back to the choices,
- 57:54our will. And, you know, there's always
- 57:58room to do better. There's always room to remember
- 58:01where we started and say, all right, today's a new day.
- 58:06Evil's going to be in heaven with the Lord our God.
- 58:09Asking this particular question. Father, is there anything else I
- 58:13could have done better? Whether he has an answer or not,
- 58:18you know what I'd say, girl, you're here.
- 58:20That's all we need to know. You're you're here.
- 58:24All the Q&A is over. You're here.
- 58:26You're here. Right.
- 58:27Hey, so just remember to put out my application for being a St.
- 58:30right St. Eva.
- 58:35See, we we try to incorporate humor here because I'm telling
- 58:39you it's going to be somebody in heaven asking a question you.
- 58:43Want me to read I'll? Pre fill it out to you.
- 58:45Pre fill it out, It's going to be it's going to be.
- 58:47Stapled to her scroll of questions.
- 58:53Oh man. So Yep, Chapter 50 next week,
- 58:58folks. Thank you for joining us.
- 59:00I mean, I will do a clothing phrase.

- 59:45some revival in your own spiritual walk and that you are
- 59:51finding some warm healing and recovery in the discussions
- 59:56around. In your name we pray, Father.
