• 2:20
Speaker 3: Michael Geruge, who is Republican running for State Senate in
• 2:23
Speaker 3: District seventeen. How are you, my friend, Welcome to the show.
• 2:25
Speaker 4: Good. How are you, Dave. I'm impressed you got all
• 2:27
Speaker 4: that out in one breath.
• 2:28
Speaker 3: Well, you know, I've been doing it for a long time.
• 2:30
Speaker 3: I hear you so so, Uh give us the bio,
• 2:34
Speaker 3: Give us your basic bio.
• 2:35
Speaker 5: Michael Jerush, You know, I'm just a you know, average
• 2:38
Speaker 5: guy business owner. You know, we've had a wonderful business
• 2:41
Speaker 5: in South Charleston. We've been there, gosh, going on eleven years.
• 2:45
Speaker 5: You know, we went through lots of hard times, went
• 2:48
Speaker 5: through COVID, came out the other side stronger, better and.
• 2:53
Speaker 3: To mention the business, if you don't care, I mean.
• 2:55
Speaker 4: Yeah, this is the Olive Tree Cafe.
• 2:56
Speaker 3: Okay, okay, sure we'll know that. Okay, go ahead.
• 2:58
Speaker 5: Yeah, we've been there about eleven years, and you know,
• 3:01
Speaker 5: really excited about trying to get into this race and
• 3:03
Speaker 5: give back. You know, as a I think sometimes a
• 3:07
Speaker 5: ground and pound on the ground guy like me is
• 3:09
  Speaker 5: what's needed. You know, I've owned a business, I've written
• 3:13
Speaker 5: a lot of paychecks. I know what it's like to
• 3:14
Speaker 5: make it run, and we're going to try and do that.
• 3:17
Speaker 5: I want to try and roll my sleeves up and
• 3:19
Speaker 5: give back and work for West Virginia.
• 3:21
Speaker 3: Now, this is District seventeen. Explain the district to us.
• 3:24
Speaker 3: What area it is?
• 3:26
Speaker 5: Well, it's good, you know most of Knall County, you
• 3:28
Speaker 5: know St Albans, South Hills, Cisonville, Kanah City. You know,
• 3:32
  Speaker 5: it's it's a big district. There's two seats up. I'm
• 3:36
Speaker 5: running for Eric Nelson's unexpired.
• 3:39
Speaker 3: Okay, yeah, okay. So with all that having been said,
• 3:45
Speaker 3: you have a very successful business. Why would you want
• 3:48
Speaker 3: to go into the Senate.
• 3:50
  Speaker 1: You know, I.
• 3:50
Speaker 5: Always wanted to get into state politics. It's something that
• 3:54
Speaker 5: I always wanted to do, and I always said, you know,
• 3:58
Speaker 5: I'm going to do it later when I'm older, you know, tomorrow,
• 4:02
Speaker 5: you know, But we had we had a pretty rough summer.
• 4:04
Speaker 5: We lost a lot of family members, including my mother,
• 4:08
Speaker 5: and it was one after the other after the other.
• 4:10
Speaker 5: And if it's one thing that I took away from that,
• 4:13
Speaker 5: I learned is that we're not guaranteed our tomorrows. If
• 4:18
Speaker 5: you want to do some good, if you want to
• 4:20
Speaker 5: you know, if you want to go into it and
• 4:22
Speaker 5: get into it and try to give back to the state,
• 4:24
Speaker 5: today's all you have.
• 4:26
Speaker 4: So we decided to give it a shot.
• 4:28
Speaker 5: Had a lot of encouragement, you know, several folks down
• 4:31
Speaker 5: to the state state House encouraged me to make the run.
• 4:34
  Speaker 4: And that's what we're doing.
• 4:37
Speaker 3: So with that having been said to you, again, you're
• 4:39
Speaker 3: a very successful businessman. What sorts of things have you
• 4:44
Speaker 3: learned as a business owner that you think will translate
• 4:47
Speaker 3: well if you're elected to the state Senate.
• 4:49
Speaker 4: You know, that's the thing.
• 4:52
Speaker 5: A lot of the folks in the State House, God
• 4:54
Speaker 5: bless them, they're great people. Not all of them have had,
• 4:57
Speaker 5: you know, businesses, have run businesses. I think a business
• 5:01
Speaker 5: owner standpoint is what's needed in the state House.
• 5:05
Speaker 4: If you come up with an idea.
• 5:06
Speaker 5: If you come up with a law, you spend money
• 5:08
Speaker 5: on it, and it's our money. It's their money too,
• 5:11
Speaker 5: they pay taxes, but it's my money and your money,
• 5:13
Speaker 5: you know. And if it doesn't work, guess what, they
• 5:16
Speaker 5: come up with another one. And if that doesn't work,
• 5:18
Speaker 5: they come up with another one. In a small business,
• 5:21
Speaker 5: if you come up with an idea and it works
• 5:23
Speaker 5: for you, great. If it doesn't work for you, maybe
• 5:25
Speaker 5: you can come up with another one, and then maybe
• 5:28
Speaker 5: you're out of business.
• 5:30
Speaker 4: So there are those penalties.
• 5:32
Speaker 5: There is that desperation that need to make your dollars count,
• 5:37
Speaker 5: and I think that that's what's important right now.
• 5:40
Speaker 3: Talking to Michael Jerush again, who is a candidate for
• 5:43
Speaker 3: State Senate District seventeen. A Dave Allen Show on five

• 5:51
Speaker 3: Community of Technical College. Your career starts here. Talk about
• 5:54
Speaker 3: your district as far as the biggest needs that you
• 5:56
Speaker 3: see for your district.
• 5:58
Speaker 5: You know, the biggest needs I see not just for
• 6:00
Speaker 5: district but for the state is you know, what we
• 6:03
Speaker 5: need to be laser focused on jobs.
• 6:06
Speaker 4: And building the economy. I mean that solves all problems.
• 6:09
Speaker 5: The Senate in years past had done a great job
• 6:13
Speaker 5: up until like twenty four.
• 6:14
Speaker 4: They did a fantastic job.
• 6:16
Speaker 5: You had great companies coming in like New Core, you know,
• 6:19
Speaker 5: bringing in millions of dollars of investment, hundreds of jobs.
• 6:23
Speaker 5: I mean, in twenty twenty four a loon more than
• 6:25
Speaker 5: thirteen thousand, five hundred small businesses open. Now, how does
• 6:29
Speaker 5: that translate to jobs. It's a big deal. And you know,
• 6:33
Speaker 5: West Virginia is poised to do something great. I mean,
• 6:37
Speaker 5: we have we have the workforce, we do. We it's
• 6:41
Speaker 5: a beautiful state, we have the natural resources. Cost of
• 6:45
Speaker 5: living everywhere right now is tough, but we're in you know,
• 6:48
Speaker 5: ours is a little bit better than in surrounding states.
• 6:50
Speaker 5: I would say, So we have what we need. We
• 6:55
Speaker 5: just need to bring those jobs to West Virginia. And
• 6:57
Speaker 5: that's important. You know, I have three right now in
• 7:00
Speaker 5: college and one is getting ready to go to dental school,
• 7:04
Speaker 5: one is looking at law schools, one's in his first
• 7:07
Speaker 5: year over at WVU, and of course I have a
• 7:10
Speaker 5: young daughter. But I want them to have something to
• 7:12
Speaker 5: come back to. You know, we need to make sure
• 7:15
Speaker 5: that we don't lose that talent because that biggest natural
• 7:18
Speaker 5: resource that we have in West Virginia is our people
• 7:21
Speaker 5: and we've been hemorrhaging that for years. So we need
• 7:24
Speaker 5: to bring them back. We need to bring them, give
• 7:26
Speaker 5: them reasons to come back to West Virginia. And that's
• 7:29
Speaker 5: what I'm all about.
• 7:30
Speaker 3: And that's interesting. There was actually gonna be my next
• 7:32
Speaker 3: question to you, Michael, is that how do we impart
• 7:36
Speaker 3: upon those young people like you mentioned your kids, you
• 7:38
Speaker 3: know that are that are looking at at their careers.
• 7:41
Speaker 3: How do you tell them that West Virginia is the
• 7:45
Speaker 3: place that they need to be or how do we
• 7:46
  Speaker 3: recruit other people?
• 7:48
Speaker 4: I mean, we talk is cheap.
• 7:49
Speaker 5: You can tell them all you want, but you need
• 7:50
Speaker 5: to show, okay, and that we need to show them.
• 7:52
Speaker 5: So you know, we need to give those incentives to
• 7:55
Speaker 5: those you know, to those companies to come to West Virginia.
• 7:58
Speaker 5: Like I said, we have the natural resource is we
• 8:00
Speaker 5: need to give them those those financial whether it's financial incentives,
• 8:04
Speaker 5: and you know, we need to get them here. And
• 8:06
Speaker 5: once they're here, are we will have you know, our
• 8:09
Speaker 5: children will know that they'll see what they have to
• 8:12
Speaker 5: come back to and that's what's important.
• 8:14
Speaker 3: And we have you mentioned workforce participation. That has been
• 8:17
Speaker 3: a very very big sticking point for all of West
• 8:21
Speaker 3: Virginia for some time. We just simply don't have enough
• 8:23
Speaker 3: people that are of working age, that are able to work,
• 8:27
Speaker 3: that that are working. How do we fix that?
• 8:29
Speaker 4: Well, we need to.
• 8:30
Speaker 5: We need to, like we said, you know several times,
• 8:33
Speaker 5: we need to give people to come reasons to come
• 8:35
Speaker 5: to West Virginia, but we need to be focused on
• 8:38
Speaker 5: education as well. We need to make sure that our
• 8:41
Speaker 5: children are prepared and whether it's.
• 8:43
Speaker 4: For college or whether it's for.
• 8:45
Speaker 5: Our trade, we need to give them those options and uh,
• 8:49
Speaker 5: you know, make sure that they're prepared to go out
• 8:50
Speaker 5: into the workforce and build our workforce.
• 8:53
Speaker 3: Which campaign strategy look like? I mean you're on the
• 8:56
Speaker 3: radio today, but I mean you doing door to door,
• 8:59
Speaker 3: You willing to participate in some candidates forums if those happen,
• 9:03
  Speaker 3: what do you.
• 9:03
Speaker 4: Absolutely you know? I am going to be me? I
• 9:06
Speaker 4: mean that's the thing.
• 9:08
Speaker 5: I want to hold that seat and I don't necessarily have,
• 9:12
Speaker 5: you know, any desire to be any further than that seat.
• 9:15
  Speaker 4: You know, I don't need a job. I've got a job.
• 9:18
Speaker 5: I work twelve fourteen hour days, but I want to
• 9:22
Speaker 5: give back to West Virginia. My strategy is to let
• 9:25
Speaker 5: people see what it is that we do, how hard
• 9:27
Speaker 5: that we work, and we want to roll our sleeves
• 9:30
Speaker 5: up and do that same thing for West Virginia. The
• 9:33
Speaker 5: same things that we did for our business, we want
• 9:35
Speaker 5: to do for West Virginia. My strategy is to just
• 9:38
Speaker 5: introduce myself, present myself, and tell the truth about what
• 9:42
Speaker 5: needs to be done to move West Virginia forward.
• 9:45
Speaker 3: Where can people learn more about your campaign? To get
• 9:47
Speaker 3: a website, social media and each other.
• 9:49
Speaker 5: Sure, a website is Mike for wv dot com. And
• 9:53
Speaker 5: of course we have Facebook, we have we have it all,
• 9:58
Speaker 5: you know. Michael Jerrouge for West Virginia Senate is our Facebook,
• 10:02
Speaker 5: and or they can go to our website and it'll
• 10:04
Speaker 5: take them everywhere they need to go.
• 10:06
Speaker 3: Final thirty, as I do with every candidate, Michael, why
• 10:08
Speaker 3: why should someone vote for you for State Senate District seventeen.
• 10:11
Speaker 5: You know, I'm just your average guy. You know, people
• 10:14
Speaker 5: ask me questions about DC. You know, I'm not worried
• 10:18
Speaker 5: about the White House. I'm worried about your house. I'm
• 10:20
Speaker 5: worried about my house. I'm worried about the State House.
• 10:24
Speaker 5: You know, I have built my small business. I have
• 10:26
Speaker 5: a family. We're here in West Virginia. My children are
• 10:29
Speaker 5: going to school in West Virginia. They'll be coming back
• 10:32
Speaker 5: to work in West Virginia. We need to focus on
• 10:35
Speaker 5: we need to be laser focused on building our economy
• 10:39
Speaker 5: and you know, bringing jobs to West Virginia. That's what
• 10:43
  Speaker 5: we're all about. That's what we're going for and that's
• 10:46
Speaker 5: what we want to do.
• 10:47
Speaker 3: Mike Jeruche, State Senator to candidate District seventeen. Appreciate you
• 10:51
Speaker 3: being here, Good luck with the campaign. I'll talk.

  Speaker 3: heard today?
• 14:07
Speaker 10: Glenville State Day? Down in the gallery. I'm actually upstairs.
• 14:10
Speaker 10: We just had to step out of Judiciary Committee meeting.
• 14:13
Speaker 10: Uh so I can do this interview with you, actually so,
• 14:16
Speaker 10: but we're you know, we're down in the home stretch.
• 14:18
Speaker 10: I think they just informed of Dads this morning that
• 14:21
Speaker 10: any of our bills had to be into bill drafting
• 14:25
Speaker 10: by Thursday morning. So we're getting to that point where
• 14:28
Speaker 10: any bills were going to be submitted. You have to
• 14:31
Speaker 10: be in and starting in the process. So you know,
• 14:34
Speaker 10: sixty a session, he goes quick, and the longer it goes,
• 14:37
Speaker 10: the more fast and furious that it gets during the day.
• 14:40
Speaker 3: And you've been there for a couple of terms. Now
• 14:43
Speaker 3: does it get any easier? Is it pretty much the
• 14:46
Speaker 3: same every year? I mean, you're kind of you're one
• 14:48
Speaker 3: of the veterans there now, I.
• 14:49
Speaker 10: Guess right some why you know, it's interesting this is
• 14:52
Speaker 10: my third term succession, and I'd say two thirds of
• 14:57
Speaker 10: the body of the House of Elegants turned over at
• 15:01
Speaker 10: least since I've been here, you know, with these two
• 15:03
Speaker 10: year terms, and you know, it's a part time gig
• 15:06
Speaker 10: for most anybody that's in here. And so you know,
• 15:10
Speaker 10: I think life pulls at people in different directions and ways,
• 15:13
Speaker 10: and and so you see you do see a lot
• 15:15
Speaker 10: of turnover and change. But you know, obviously I think
• 15:18
Speaker 10: that's what's the four or fithers I guess had in mind,
• 15:20
Speaker 10: it's the citizens legislature, and so it really kind of
• 15:24
Speaker 10: represents that. And so I don't know if it gets
• 15:26
Speaker 10: easier or not. Certainly in the days. I think the
• 15:30
Speaker 10: longer you're here in the more experience you learn more
• 15:32
Speaker 10: how the system works, and you certainly start to take
• 15:35
Speaker 10: on more responsibilities. But as you do that, and then
• 15:38
Speaker 10: things get more complicated too, because you're you're handling more.
• 15:42
Speaker 3: Yeah, we're talking with deligate Dana Ferrell. Now you've been
• 15:46
Speaker 3: on the show and other places talking about this from
• 15:48
Speaker 3: time to time, and it has to do with transfer rules,
• 15:51
Speaker 3: and you you know, we are an educator by trade,
• 15:54
Speaker 3: so you know a little bit of something about this. Also,
• 15:56
Speaker 3: you've been involved in high school sports for a long
• 15:58
Speaker 3: long time. Give us a little background rule. I wanted
• 16:03
Speaker 3: to kind of take this from the very beginning to
• 16:05
Speaker 3: catch everybody up what were the previous transfer rules. And
• 16:09
Speaker 3: then we started having discussions some of the dome a
• 16:11
Speaker 3: couple of years ago, and I know, as I said,
• 16:14
Speaker 3: you've been a part of that and there were meetings
• 16:16
Speaker 3: and there were discussions about it yesterday. Take us from
• 16:19
Speaker 3: where we were to where we are now to where
• 16:22
  Speaker 3: we're going.
• 16:23
Speaker 10: Well, I can certainly do that. And let me say
• 16:26
Speaker 10: real quick though, you know that if anybody asked wondering,
• 16:29
Speaker 10: you know, why are we dealing with high school sports
• 16:31
Speaker 10: and wordin state legislature and they are more important things
• 16:34
Speaker 10: to be dealing with, well, the answer to that is, yes,
• 16:37
Speaker 10: there are. There's you know, a lot more. I think
• 16:39
Speaker 10: we certainly argue that a lot more important things that
• 16:40
Speaker 10: we deal with up here on a daily basis. But
• 16:43
Speaker 10: two things I think you know, we can walk at
• 16:45
Speaker 10: you gums they as those saying goes at the same time,
• 16:49
Speaker 10: and this is something that's highly important, you know, and
• 16:52
Speaker 10: I know you're immedia, so you know where the people's
• 16:54
Speaker 10: interests are. And I get tons and tons of emails.
• 16:59
Speaker 10: Feby gets up on the street about this one particular
• 17:01
Speaker 10: issue because people, I think in a state like West
• 17:04
Speaker 10: Virginuary were made up of small towns, and those towns
• 17:07
Speaker 10: connect with their high schools, and those high schools identify
• 17:09
Speaker 10: with that small town people you know, are connected to
• 17:12
Speaker 10: the issue. So it's important to them, and so it
• 17:14
Speaker 10: becomes important to us. And I'll also say that one
• 17:18
Speaker 10: of my recent research ventures that it took is to
• 17:22
Speaker 10: see what the annual economic impact of sports facilities are
• 17:26
Speaker 10: in their community and typically across the United States, the
• 17:29
Speaker 10: average high school sports complex and includes your football fields, baseball, softball, gymnasium.
• 17:35
Speaker 10: Sports complex generates about five million dollars to that regional
• 17:40
Speaker 10: economy annually. So when we talk about economic development impacts
• 17:45
Speaker 10: and things like that, sports are big, big business, a
• 17:48
Speaker 10: big part of it. So, now that being said, let's
• 17:50
Speaker 10: get back to while where we are. Up until I
• 17:55
Speaker 10: think twenty twenty one, we operated if a student athlete
• 17:59
Speaker 10: weren't to transfer, they had to do that coming out
• 18:03
Speaker 10: of middle school or eighth grade. If they wanted to
• 18:06
Speaker 10: make a change from their homeschool, they can make the
• 18:09
Speaker 10: change without penalty if they did it anytime after where
• 18:11
Speaker 10: they had to set out for sixty five days and
• 18:15
Speaker 10: you know if they did it going into their appliconius years.
• 18:19
Speaker 10: And in twenty twenty one that changed. And I will
• 18:23
Speaker 10: say the bill that changed that I actually tried to
• 18:26
Speaker 10: run two or three years before that and felled each
• 18:28
Speaker 10: year over here in the House of Deligate, they will
• 18:30
Speaker 10: always generate out of the Senate side come over here.
• 18:33
Speaker 10: And it felt and as I mentioned yesterday one of
• 18:36
Speaker 10: the TV interviews, you know, everybody has their reasons why
• 18:39
Speaker 10: they run piece of legislation up here. I'm sure the
• 18:43
Speaker 10: senator at the time that the introduced that bill wanted
• 18:46
Speaker 10: it had valid reasons for them why they wanted it.
• 18:50
Speaker 10: But you know, always sometimes what somebody wants and the
• 18:54
Speaker 10: implications of it. Sometimes I always say up here, what
• 18:57
Speaker 10: the concept is great, that the application can sometimes really
• 19:01
Speaker 10: come off the rails. And I think that you know,
• 19:03
Speaker 10: there was concerned with this bill here once. Once it
• 19:06
Speaker 10: was applied, we started saying the disparities among schools has
• 19:10
Speaker 10: and have not slopsided scores, the recruiting that takes place,
• 19:16
Speaker 10: and there wasn't And I think more than anything, David,
• 19:18
Speaker 10: to me, this is an ethics deal. You know, what
• 19:21
Speaker 10: what values are we going to try to instill into
• 19:24
Speaker 10: our young people? Are you know, are you going to
• 19:26
Speaker 10: be about something bigger than yourself, your team, you know,
• 19:30
Speaker 10: be put your teammates, your school, and your community ahead
• 19:32
Speaker 10: of yourself or is it all about you? And uh
• 19:36
Speaker 10: and and there's nothing wrong with teaching young people to
• 19:40
Speaker 10: try to better themselves and improve themselves.
• 19:43
  Speaker 4: Uh.
• 19:43
Speaker 10: We have we have private sports, we have travel ball
• 19:46
Speaker 10: and things like that that you know where that takes place.
• 19:48
Speaker 10: But scholastic sports I think were never meant to be
• 19:52
Speaker 10: a part of the focus is all about self. It's
• 19:55
Speaker 10: more about something bigger than yourself. And you know, this
• 19:58
Speaker 10: is a one hundred year old We're more institution high schools,
• 20:02
Speaker 10: classic sports that have served the state in a really
• 20:06
Speaker 10: country well across that time period. And then all of
• 20:10
Speaker 10: a sudden we see this meddling again. It isn't just
• 20:13
Speaker 10: a West Virginia problem. It's it's happening across all states,
• 20:17
Speaker 10: and West Virginia is caught up in it. And so
• 20:19
Speaker 10: we're just trying to mitigate at least my Bill tries
• 20:22
Speaker 10: to mitigate it. Say, Okay, you know, we're we understand
• 20:24
Speaker 10: and we're gonna have to accept the fact we live
• 20:26
Speaker 10: in a world with nil and transfer portals, and that's
• 20:29
Speaker 10: how can we manage this to to make it work
• 20:34
Speaker 10: the best it can For there's never going to be
• 20:36
Speaker 10: a perfect situation, but how can we make it work
• 20:38
Speaker 10: better than what we have right now?
• 20:40
Speaker 3: What were the discussions like and where are we today?
• 20:42
Speaker 3: As I said, we have a story posted about a
• 20:44
Speaker 3: WV metronews dot com and there have been some discussions
• 20:49
Speaker 3: back and forth. I mean, you know, just which is
• 20:51
Speaker 3: what bills. That's what's supposed to happens while you're there,
• 20:53
Speaker 3: right But where are we right now on this Tuesday morning.
• 20:57
Speaker 10: Okay, there're actually three separate bill or two others besides mine.
• 21:02
Speaker 10: They're in in process up here at Capital to address
• 21:07
Speaker 10: the transfer portal, and two of those totally repill it.
• 21:12
Speaker 10: The two of them are totally repill it, the one
• 21:13
Speaker 10: that's coming out of the Senate, another one here in
• 21:15
Speaker 10: the House. They'll gearhard out of Merciall County sponsoring that,
• 21:19
Speaker 10: and it just would take us completely back to where
• 21:21
Speaker 10: we were and before twenty twenty. My bill actually is
• 21:26
Speaker 10: a little bit of a compromise, and it allows the
• 21:29
Speaker 10: student athlete to transfer out as they go as before
• 21:32
Speaker 10: into their ninth grade year, and it also allows them
• 21:36
Speaker 10: to transfer going into their sophomore year, but cause they're
• 21:39
Speaker 10: still an underclassman, they haven't hit that junior senior year
• 21:43
Speaker 10: yet when things become more predominant and you start stacking
• 21:47
Speaker 10: all star teams together and that kind of thing. So
• 21:49
  Speaker 10: I think it's a little bit of a compromise. It
• 21:50
Speaker 10: does allow them that trial year, their freshman year to
• 21:53
Speaker 10: get into a program. Hey, you know what, I don't
• 21:55
Speaker 10: think I like it here. I don't see an avenue
• 21:58
Speaker 10: for me. They have their driver's license by the time
• 22:01
Speaker 10: their air sophomore years, so if they need to get
• 22:03
Speaker 10: to and from it, you know, solve some logistics issues
• 22:06
Speaker 10: and you know, it allows them to be able to
• 22:09
Speaker 10: do that safely. It also allows them to reinstates the
• 22:13
Speaker 10: ability for them to transfer back to their homeschool if
• 22:16
Speaker 10: they get you know, make that transfer and to get there,
• 22:18
Speaker 10: they're not happy, and you know what, I want to
• 22:19
Speaker 10: be back with my friends, my home hometown. Then they
• 22:22
Speaker 10: can do that all the way up and untill they're
• 22:24
Speaker 10: going into their senior year. And so you know, I
• 22:27
Speaker 10: see it as a sort of a repeal bill. It's
• 22:31
  Speaker 10: a trench a reform bill. It's what I what I
• 22:35
Speaker 10: call it. I think to me, it's the most uh understanding,
• 22:40
Speaker 10: and I think gives a little bit to each side.
• 22:43
Speaker 10: Kind of build that's up there. The other two and
• 22:45
Speaker 10: less say not, you know, we tried this, it doesn't work.
• 22:47
Speaker 10: We're going back to what we had. And uh so
• 22:50
Speaker 10: I think you're going to see something. Uh my bill
• 22:53
Speaker 10: actually had its hearing stage yesterday and House Education and
• 22:57
Speaker 10: uh it is moving on to pass these and Mark up. Okay,
• 23:01
Speaker 10: we'll be voted on, hopefully lady this week to be
• 23:04
Speaker 10: voted out of House Education Committee, and then sit down
• 23:08
Speaker 10: to the four for four for passes there, and then
• 23:11
Speaker 10: of course, once if it can pass out of there,
• 23:13
Speaker 10: then moves over to the Senate, starts the process all
• 23:16
  Speaker 10: over again.
• 23:18
Speaker 3: Okay, Delia, I know you you're heart up against time
• 23:20
Speaker 3: because you've got an interview that you have to get to,
• 23:22
Speaker 3: another interview not as important as mine, But that's okay, kay,
• 23:25
Speaker 3: I'm kidding about that. What would you say, just quickly,
• 23:28
Speaker 3: give me a minuteor two. What would you say to
• 23:29
Speaker 3: people that are listening right now that say, look, I
• 23:31
Speaker 3: pay taxes, My kids should be able to go wherever
• 23:34
Speaker 3: they want to go to play high school sports or
• 23:37
Speaker 3: whatever the case may be. And maybe, and you and
• 23:38
Speaker 3: I've had this discussion before, maybe a kid is looking
• 23:41
Speaker 3: and the only way I'm going to be able to
• 23:42
Speaker 3: go to college is if I play on a team
• 23:45
Speaker 3: that is well known, a larger school, maybe more more
• 23:48
Speaker 3: talent around it. What would you say to those folks?
• 23:50
Speaker 10: Okay, we're two parts of your question points there, and
• 23:53
Speaker 10: I think the first thing and probably most important, Hey, look,
• 23:56
Speaker 10: it's my child you know, it's my tax dollars that
• 23:58
Speaker 10: you know, I should be able to go and do
• 24:00
  Speaker 10: what I want. And individually, I think anybody that's that's
• 24:03
Speaker 10: made a transfer, I don't want to sit here and
• 24:06
Speaker 10: judge them or fault them individually, because individually, I think
• 24:10
Speaker 10: anybody can make a good cases to why they're making
• 24:12
Speaker 10: that move. But collectively is where what we have to
• 24:16
Speaker 10: deal with here. You know, we're not just dealing with
• 24:18
Speaker 10: one case. We're dealing with hundreds and really gets into
• 24:21
Speaker 10: the thousands sometimes across this classic here and sglectively it
• 24:25
Speaker 10: creates a landscape that is puts us into unbalanced situations,
• 24:30
Speaker 10: chaos and such. And so that's the thing there. We
• 24:34
Speaker 10: can't just look at it individually. And let's say this
• 24:36
Speaker 10: that the appeal process, it's there for a reason. If
• 24:39
Speaker 10: you have a particular case where your kid needs to
• 24:41
Speaker 10: be or something's going on, they're being mistreated or what
• 24:44
Speaker 10: have you, and you want to make that move, there's
• 24:46
Speaker 10: an appeals process that even before the current mall was
• 24:49
Speaker 10: put into place or transfers ad to, ninety percent of
• 24:52
Speaker 10: those appeals were granted by the SSAC. We know that
• 24:54
Speaker 10: for a fact. So it isn't like here they're saying, no,
• 24:57
Speaker 10: you can't do this, can't do this. You know that
• 24:59
Speaker 10: there's no way out for that. And then you know,
• 25:02
Speaker 10: I think as we move forward, I think we're going
• 25:06
Speaker 10: to I think we're going to see more opportunities happen
• 25:09
Speaker 10: uh across the board that you let me go back
• 25:14
Speaker 10: to where you said too when the uh uh, I'm
• 25:17
Speaker 10: doing this so my kid can be seen. That's what's
• 25:20
Speaker 10: going That's what travel ball is for. UH. It's pretty
• 25:23
Speaker 10: well known now that that's where the coaches show up
• 25:26
Speaker 10: to do their recruiting and such. They're going to because
• 25:29
Speaker 10: you can see a bunch of high level, uh skilled
• 25:32
Speaker 10: kids at one place instead of traveling that the back
• 25:35
Speaker 10: end as such and such, especially in state like West Virginia.
• 25:38
Speaker 10: Now that being said, before there was internet, before there
• 25:42
  Speaker 10: was travel ball.
• 25:43
  Speaker 11: UH.
• 25:43
Speaker 10: Kurt Warner was playing at tiny Pineville High School and
• 25:48
Speaker 10: then Pastor area of the state and Penn State found
• 25:53
Speaker 10: him and ended up in the NFL. So you know,
• 25:55
Speaker 10: I need to say now that's just if you're good,
• 25:58
Speaker 10: they're going to find you. And and like I said,
• 26:01
Speaker 10: if you still don't believe that, and you know, get
• 26:03
Speaker 10: on a travel team and play that's what they're there for, all.
• 26:06
  Speaker 3: Right, Delegate, I know you're on a tight schedule. I

• 30:22
Speaker 3: but it's in at least some state of disrepair needs
• 30:26
Speaker 3: some help. State Tourism Secretary of Chelsea Ruby talked about
• 30:29
Speaker 3: with lawmakers last week and she joined us now. Good morning,
• 30:32
Speaker 3: and welcome to the show.
• 30:34
Speaker 11: Good morning, Dave, thanks for having me, Thank.
• 30:35
Speaker 3: You for being here. Morgan Pemberton wrote a story about
• 30:38
Speaker 3: it on Friday that you can read at wv metronews
• 30:41
Speaker 3: dot com. You talked with lawmakers last week Thursday. To
• 30:44
Speaker 3: be exact about this, one of the major issues with
• 30:47
  Speaker 3: the Culture Center.
• 30:48
Speaker 11: You know, the Culture Center is a huge building. So
• 30:51
Speaker 11: it's one hundred and eighty thousand square feet, it's five floors,
• 30:54
Speaker 11: and people don't realize that you come in, you go
• 30:56
Speaker 11: to an event at the Great Hall or the theater,
• 30:58
Speaker 11: and you don't realize how much space they're in the building.
• 31:00
Speaker 11: But the building's fifty years old, so it'll turn fifty
• 31:03
Speaker 11: this July, and it has a lot of deferred maintenance.
• 31:07
Speaker 11: So if you've been here recently, you've probably seen the
• 31:10
Speaker 11: glass on the front of the building. Some of it
• 31:12
Speaker 11: has plywood over it. Now we had to close a
• 31:15
Speaker 11: couple of times in the last couple of weeks because
• 31:17
Speaker 11: the heat isn't working. It really needs to make ever.
• 31:20
Speaker 11: It's time for it to get some love and care
• 31:23
Speaker 11: that it hasn't had over the last several years.
• 31:25
Speaker 3: And the Culture Center, I mean, we think about it
• 31:27
Speaker 3: for different events, you know from you know, the theater
• 31:31
Speaker 3: and different things that go on there, you know, Mountain stage, whatever,
• 31:36
Speaker 3: but it is kind of seen as a welcoming center
• 31:40
Speaker 3: for people. I mean, I can't tell you the number
• 31:43
Speaker 3: of events that I have gone to there, both when
• 31:45
Speaker 3: I was in state government and now of state government.
• 31:47
Speaker 3: This is kind of like one of the first things
• 31:49
Speaker 3: that you see when you come to the capitol, and
• 31:51
Speaker 3: it's utilized several times a week, whether legislature, whether whether
• 31:56
  Speaker 3: the legislators are.
• 31:57
  Speaker 16: There or not.
• 31:58
Speaker 11: For sure it is. It's a true gym on the campus.
• 32:02
Speaker 11: And if people think about their memories they have of
• 32:05
Speaker 11: coming to visit the state capital, it's always on the list.
• 32:08
Speaker 11: So whether you came here on a field trip as
• 32:11
Speaker 11: a kid, or you had a dance recital here, you
• 32:14
Speaker 11: went and watched your neighbor at Vandalia. I mean, there's
• 32:16
Speaker 11: so many events that happen here. Like you said, there's
• 32:19
Speaker 11: events here three to four times a week minimum. So
• 32:23
Speaker 11: it's a place that people have fond memories of. It's
• 32:26
Speaker 11: a place that they'll continue to have fond memories of.
• 32:28
  Speaker 11: We're we're just at a point where it's time to
• 32:31
Speaker 11: invest in it. It's time to reinvest and bring it
• 32:34
Speaker 11: up to the shape that it really deserves.
• 32:36
Speaker 3: So how did we get to where we are now? Chelsea?
• 32:40
Speaker 11: You know, I think it's a combination of things, but
• 32:43
Speaker 11: it's truly just maintenance was deferred. I'll give you the
• 32:47
Speaker 11: best example of it. You know, we've got a roof
• 32:49
Speaker 11: on this building that was put on thirty two years ago.
• 32:52
Speaker 11: It had a twenty two or a twenty year warranty.
• 32:55
Speaker 11: We're twelve years past that now, and when it rains outside,
• 32:57
Speaker 11: it rains inside. So I see, you know, we've got
• 33:00
Speaker 11: to get back. We've got to get the building first
• 33:03
Speaker 11: back into good shape, and then what we've got to
• 33:05
Speaker 11: do is have a regular maintenance schedule. I think, you know,
• 33:08
Speaker 11: part of what happened is the building was taken out
• 33:10
Speaker 11: from under General Services care a number of years ago
• 33:13
Speaker 11: and folks who were working here were left to take
• 33:15
Speaker 11: care of it on their own, without enough resources, without
• 33:18
Speaker 11: the skills, et cetera, and it really just fell into disrepair.
• 33:22
Speaker 3: Well, and I know that with this Winner that you know,
• 33:26
Speaker 3: we've had a really really harsh Winner, there's been issues
• 33:30
Speaker 3: with the heat, whereas in there was none right at
• 33:32
  Speaker 3: one point, right.
• 33:34
Speaker 11: Yeah, there was none, So we have it. It's a
• 33:37
Speaker 11: very very old, antiquated again fifty year old system of
• 33:40
Speaker 11: boilers that heat this building and there's a number of
• 33:43
Speaker 11: them and we haven't been able to get them all working.
• 33:45
Speaker 11: Those parts aren't available anymore, so we've been really scrounging
• 33:50
Speaker 11: all over trying to find parts for the system until
• 33:53
Speaker 11: we can get it replaced. So, yeah, you're right. There
• 33:55
Speaker 11: were three or four days now that we've had to
• 33:57
Speaker 11: close the building because there was no heat. So that
• 33:59
Speaker 11: meant that the evening receptions that we're going to be
• 34:02
Speaker 11: here and the performances all had to be moved to
• 34:04
Speaker 11: other places. So it's not a situation you want to
• 34:07
Speaker 11: be in. It's a building that people have come to
• 34:10
Speaker 11: rely on, people have come to love, and we've got
• 34:13
Speaker 11: to get it back into better shape.
• 34:14

Speaker 3: For more, visit Dirtybirds baseball dot com and Chelsea. This
• 34:41
Speaker 3: is more than just the cosmetic aspect of it, because
• 34:45
Speaker 3: there are a lot of artifacts. There are a lot
• 34:47
Speaker 3: of I mean one of the first things that people
• 34:48
Speaker 3: do is they go to the museum and they look
• 34:51
Speaker 3: at these things, and I mean, we're in danger. I
• 34:53
Speaker 3: don't want to push the panic button here, but if
• 34:55
Speaker 3: something doesn't happen here, we are in danger of possibly
• 34:58
Speaker 3: losing some of these things that are on display there.
• 35:01
Speaker 11: Yeah, I'm glad you brought that up. You know, most
• 35:03
Speaker 11: folks when they come visit the Culture Center, they go
• 35:05
Speaker 11: into the museum, they go to the theater, they go
• 35:08
Speaker 11: to an event in the Great Hall, But there's a
• 35:10
Speaker 11: lot of other places in the building that store our
• 35:13
Speaker 11: state's most precious treasures. So if you think about the
• 35:16
Speaker 11: State Archives, all of our state's documents are in there.
• 35:20
Speaker 11: So that's part of the reason this building is five
• 35:22
Speaker 11: floors and there's a lot of places that folks don't
• 35:24
Speaker 11: see it. There's a lot of storage of those documents
• 35:27
Speaker 11: and artifacts. The museum has over one hundred and fifty
• 35:30
Speaker 11: thousand artifacts, so you know, you see all the things
• 35:33
Speaker 11: that are on display when you come here, but there's
• 35:36
Speaker 11: thousands and thousands more that are stored here and that
• 35:39
Speaker 11: are owned by the state that aren't on display at
• 35:42
Speaker 11: any given time, and it's really important that we take
• 35:44
Speaker 11: care of those things. The current building does not have
• 35:47
Speaker 11: humidity control in those different areas. You know, most museums
• 35:51
Speaker 11: have humidity control and are very closely monitoring the temperature
• 35:56
Speaker 11: in the areas of documents and artifacts, and we're not
• 35:59
Speaker 11: able to do that right now. So I you know again,
• 36:01
Speaker 11: I'm with you. I don't want to hit the panic button,
• 36:03
Speaker 11: but I certainly think this is something that we need
• 36:05
Speaker 11: to look at right away, both from a public safety perspective,
• 36:09
Speaker 11: you know, making sure the employees here have heat and
• 36:11
Speaker 11: hot water and that the glass you know, in the
• 36:13
Speaker 11: front windows gets fixed and is not a safety issue,
• 36:16
Speaker 11: but also long term looking at the state's artifacts and documents.
• 36:20
Speaker 3: You sat down or you talked last week with lawmakers,
• 36:24
Speaker 3: what was your ask of them? And as we continue
• 36:27
Speaker 3: through the session, getting close to the halfway point, what
• 36:29
Speaker 3: is your continued ask of lawmakers when it comes to
• 36:32
  Speaker 3: this subject.
• 36:33
Speaker 11: You know, it's tricky. You don't want to be the
• 36:35
Speaker 11: state agency who's always going back to the governor and
• 36:37
Speaker 11: to the Finance committee saying we need more money, we
• 36:40
Speaker 11: need more money. Last year, as soon as this department
• 36:43
Speaker 11: came under my purview, when there was the merger between
• 36:46
Speaker 11: the Department of Arts, Culture, and History and Tourism, I
• 36:49
Speaker 11: immediately realized that we needed a new roof. So I
• 36:52
Speaker 11: went over last year and asked for money. The governor
• 36:54
Speaker 11: and the legislature were very quick to authorize us money
• 36:56
Speaker 11: to get the new roof put on the building. But
• 36:59
Speaker 11: since then, I feel like I just keep running over
• 37:01
Speaker 11: with more and more issues. So what we're doing right
• 37:03
Speaker 11: now is we've got architects and engineers who are doing
• 37:06
Speaker 11: a complete assessment of the building so that we can
• 37:09
Speaker 11: get a number of how much would it cost to
• 37:11
Speaker 11: read you everything that needs to be fixed in this
• 37:13
Speaker 11: building and make that ask. So right now we've got
• 37:16
Speaker 11: the governor has sent over a supplemental to the legislature
• 37:19
Speaker 11: for ten million. We know that that won't do all
• 37:22
Speaker 11: of it, but we're working on getting a total number
• 37:25
Speaker 11: and hope to at least get started with some of
• 37:26
Speaker 11: the most urgent things right.
• 37:28
Speaker 3: Away, say tourist, some secretary and Chelsea Ruby. I guess
• 37:32
Speaker 3: I'm like a lot of people.
• 37:33
  Speaker 10: You know.
• 37:34
Speaker 3: I've gone to a lot of events there, as I said,
• 37:35
Speaker 3: over the years, But until I heard your testimony last week,
• 37:38
  Speaker 3: I didn't I guess I just didn't realize that it
• 37:40
Speaker 3: was in that bat of shape. It is a gem
• 37:42
Speaker 3: of West Virginia, nearly fifty years or fifty years old
• 37:44
Speaker 3: this year on. You know, again, we don't want to
• 37:48
Speaker 3: push the panic button. We've got a lot to lose
• 37:49
Speaker 3: if we don't get this thing maintained, like it should be.
• 37:52
Speaker 3: I appreciate you taking time out of what I know
• 37:54

• 39:04
Speaker 3: you're not discussing the state budget today, but saw a
• 39:06
Speaker 3: line of the paper this morning that the Revenue Department
• 39:09
Speaker 3: is counting on inflation to bring a rise in sales
• 39:12
Speaker 3: tax revenue to help the budget. Like most people, I
• 39:14
Speaker 3: thought inflation was bad, but our governor and his people
• 39:17
Speaker 3: must think it's good. Is this what West Virginia needs
• 39:21

Speaker 3: executive director, is with us. Welcome to the show, sir,
• 42:33
Speaker 3: Good morning, Hey, thanks for having me back, Thank you
• 42:35
Speaker 3: for being here. All right, So big stuff going on
• 42:38
  Speaker 3: for Valentine's Day.
• 42:39
Speaker 20: Right, yeah, we you know, Catus Nelson, our deputy executive director,
• 42:43
Speaker 20: and I we were trying to hatch an idea for
• 42:46
Speaker 20: Valentine's Day, and everybody has Valentine's Day dinners. We know
• 42:49
Speaker 20: it's a popular holiday and everybody's looking to get out
• 42:51
Speaker 20: and hopefully unfollowed by Saturday, and everybody's dying to get out.
• 42:56
Speaker 20: So we're trying to make our event a little bit different.
• 42:58
Speaker 20: So we came up with a community of Valentine's Day
• 43:00
Speaker 20: dinner that'll be this Saturday, Capital Market from.
• 43:02
  Speaker 4: Six to eight.
• 43:03
Speaker 20: It's called Rooted in Love and it's we're just going
• 43:06
Speaker 20: to have a We have a greenhouse space that is
• 43:09
Speaker 20: used by Mountain State Flower in dvance of Christmas have
• 43:14
Speaker 20: you know, reathmaking workshops and his own little Christmas shop,
• 43:16
Speaker 20: and we're flipping that space into our indoor dining area
• 43:21
Speaker 20: this Saturday. But we're doing long tables. So whether you
• 43:25
Speaker 20: are in a new relationship, I have an old flame,
• 43:27
Speaker 20: or you're single, or you have a partner but they're
• 43:31
Speaker 20: out of town, or you want to bring a group
• 43:34
Speaker 20: of friends. We wanted to really be a community event,
• 43:36
  Speaker 20: so I.
• 43:37
Speaker 4: Like, then, yeah, you can come.
• 43:38
Speaker 3: Down and you know, with this woman that we've had,
• 43:40
Speaker 3: chances are not to be the most unromantic person in
• 43:44
Speaker 3: the world, but you know, you you might want to
• 43:46
Speaker 3: talk to other people because for two or three weeks
• 43:48
Speaker 3: you've only been able to talk to your husband, you know,
• 43:50
  Speaker 3: or your wife.
• 43:51
Speaker 4: You might you might be looking at.
• 43:53
  Speaker 11: That's not me.
• 43:53
Speaker 3: By the way, If my wife is listening, because I've
• 43:55
Speaker 3: been going to work every day and everything, she probably
• 43:56
Speaker 3: needs a break for me, not vice versa.
• 43:58
Speaker 20: Yeah, you might have had a lot a couple of
• 43:59
Speaker 20: times the past weeks. You're looking for girls or guys
• 44:01
  Speaker 20: night out.
• 44:02
  Speaker 4: That's fine.
• 44:04
Speaker 20: The thing that we're pitching, you know, it's connections over cliches, right.
• 44:08
Speaker 20: We want that community engagement and that that family community feel.
• 44:11
Speaker 20: So no matter what your relationship status is or who
• 44:14
Speaker 20: you want to go, you will have someone to your
• 44:16
Speaker 20: left and right or across from you to talk.
• 44:17
Speaker 3: To, to talk to, and again, I mean, I think
• 44:20
Speaker 3: that's kind of what we need right now as we
• 44:21
Speaker 3: try to get through this winter. How have you guys
• 44:24
Speaker 3: managed to get through everything at Capitol Market?
• 44:26
  Speaker 7: Is?
• 44:26
Speaker 3: I know you're you know, you're new to the job.
• 44:28
Speaker 3: Not new to the area of course, but you're new
• 44:29
Speaker 3: to the job. And yeah, you and Canvas and the
• 44:31
Speaker 3: folks over there, How you guys managed to get through
• 44:34
Speaker 3: this winter? From Hades, you know, it's it's been a
• 44:36
Speaker 3: bit of a whirlwind.
• 44:37
Speaker 20: When I was last year visiting with you, Dave, it
• 44:39
Speaker 20: was four or five days I think before my first day.
• 44:42
Speaker 4: Today today is day seventy two.
• 44:44
Speaker 20: So I started on December first, and we had two
• 44:47
Speaker 20: major events in early December and then our holiday village.
• 44:50
Speaker 20: So my first twenty three days were this breakneck pace
• 44:53
Speaker 20: toward Christmas. In the wake of the holiday season, it's
• 44:56
Speaker 20: been getting our budget and kind of fine tuning our
• 44:59
Speaker 20: operation at the market. But yeah, we didn't uh anticipate
• 45:03
Speaker 20: the deep freeze. So I'm waiting for all this to
• 45:06
Speaker 20: melt the way today so we can get the market
• 45:07
Speaker 20: cleaned up and looking good and start looking forward to
• 45:10
  Speaker 20: outdoor season.
• 45:11
Speaker 4: And some of the events that we have coming up
• 45:12

• 47:06
Speaker 3: although it's gonna be back in the thirties tomorrow. As
• 47:08
Speaker 3: long as we can get I joked with you, I've

Speaker 3: Dale Lee will be on the show today as well
• 48:30
Speaker 3: on the local show tomorrow. Should the City of Charleston
• 48:34
Speaker 3: have term limits? Some on city council believe so, as
• 48:38
Speaker 3: does the mayor. We're going to get into that discussion
• 48:40
Speaker 3: coming up tomorrow. Plus doctor Casey Sacks the Bridge Valley
• 48:42
Speaker 3: will join us as well. Nine fifty four, Let's go
• 48:46
Speaker 3: live to the Capitol right now and let's talk to
• 48:49
Speaker 3: Wilson and Meadows. Hello, fellers.
• 48:53
Speaker 8: Just Wilson right at them all on the day.
• 48:54
Speaker 3: All right, where's Meadow? I think he's getting coffee? Okay,
• 48:59
  Speaker 3: I haven't seen.
• 48:59
Speaker 16: Him in fifty I don't know.
• 49:00
  Speaker 17: Worry.
• 49:00
Speaker 3: We're gonna say what kind of food is being served
• 49:02
Speaker 3: there today? I know it's Glenville State Days, right.
• 49:05
Speaker 16: Yeah, kind of a makeup day. Glenville State Day was
• 49:08
Speaker 16: scheduled during the Snowmageddon event a couple of weeks ago.
• 49:11
Speaker 16: So so Mark Mansion, president for Glenville State, is here today.
• 49:15
Speaker 16: They get a little bit of display. Its Homeschoolers Day
• 49:17
Speaker 16: as well. Okay, so a lot of homeschool students are
• 49:20
Speaker 16: getting tours of the Capitol, getting to check out the
• 49:23
Speaker 16: legislative process up close and personal.
• 49:25
  Speaker 8: Today.
• 49:25
Speaker 3: What's on your schedule as far as big things that
• 49:29
Speaker 3: you're looking at today.
• 49:31
Speaker 16: Well, Dave, Senator Tom Willis is going to join us
• 49:34
Speaker 16: from Berkeley County, he Senate Judiciary Committee chair. We're going
• 49:38
Speaker 16: to talk about Senate Bill six fifteen that passed out
• 49:41
Speaker 16: of the Senate yesterday that would require local law enforcement
• 49:44
Speaker 16: to turn over illegal aliens to Ice. We'll talk about
• 49:47
Speaker 16: that bill with him.
• 49:48
Speaker 3: Now, let me ask you, is this is this an issue?
• 49:52
Speaker 3: I mean that I mean, I guess I could think, well, okay,
• 49:57
Speaker 3: in West Virginia, that's the way we base everything on
• 49:59
  Speaker 3: as well it could I mean, I don't know. That's
• 50:01
Speaker 3: editorializing in my apartment.
• 50:02
Speaker 16: Well, let me realize for a minute here. When things
• 50:05
Speaker 16: come up, people will inevitably go, well, why wasn't this
• 50:08
Speaker 16: taken care of? Blanket and blankety blank like so? And
• 50:11
Speaker 16: I can name probably half a dozen cities and they're
• 50:16
Speaker 16: probably the half dozen cities this could happen in where
• 50:19
Speaker 16: you certainly could have a city council or a city
• 50:21
Speaker 16: administration come in and say no, you will not cooperate
• 50:24
Speaker 16: with us. So isn't an issue we'll ask Senator Tom
• 50:27
Speaker 16: willis that question all right? When he joins us, Mike
• 50:30
Speaker 16: Wolfull stop by, Delegate Joe Steler, House Education Committee Chairman
• 50:33
Speaker 16: Brad McElhenny Chas Nuttycombe from State Navigate. We'll talk about
• 50:38
Speaker 16: some of the numbers in the breakdowns as we have
• 50:40
Speaker 16: candidates lined up for the primary, and Mark Manchon Blombolle,
• 50:43
Speaker 16: State President, will stop by.
• 50:44
Speaker 3: Well, it sounds like you guy's got a full day
• 50:46
Speaker 3: there and the weather's cooperating a little bit, so maybe
• 50:49
Speaker 3: it'll be because I know, as you said throughout the session,
• 50:51
Speaker 3: there's been times when you haven't been able to have
• 50:53
Speaker 3: certain things going on, things that to be postponed or whatever.
• 50:55
Speaker 3: Or we're going to be about sixty degrees today, so
• 50:57
Speaker 3: you should have a full house here at the Capitol.
• 51:00
Speaker 16: Well, you know it was very very quiet to start today.
• 51:04
Speaker 16: But like I said, the homeschoolers bringing some energy here
• 51:06
Speaker 16: this morning, and we'll see what the legislations look. We're
• 51:09
Speaker 16: coming up on day What's today Day twenty eight. Speaker
• 51:13
Speaker 16: Hanshaw's actually got an impromptu news conference after the floor session.
• 51:18
Speaker 16: He wants to talk about what's happening so far this
• 51:21
Speaker 16: first half of the session. Interested to hear what he'll
• 51:24
Speaker 16: have to say. He'll actually join us tomorrow on the show.
• 51:25
Speaker 16: By the way, all.
• 51:26
Speaker 3: Right, if you happen to see Senator Eric Tarr there today,
• 51:29
Speaker 3: you might want to ask him. The headline in the
• 51:32
Speaker 3: op ed page this morning, Wilson Tar reminds state he
• 51:36
Speaker 3: has trust issues with women.
• 51:38
Speaker 16: Yeah, that was a trash column. That was absolute garbage.
• 51:41
Speaker 3: Okay, you want to expound upon that.
• 51:44
Speaker 16: Well, because Eric Tarr brought up a question about a bill,
• 51:48
Speaker 16: asking if someone could take advantage of the bill for
• 51:51
Speaker 16: nefarious reasons. That is his job to ask questions about
• 51:54
Speaker 16: a bill, look at all possibilities and unattended consequences. Because
• 51:58
Speaker 16: he brought up a question doesn't mean he has trust
• 52:01
  Speaker 16: issues with women.
• 52:02
Speaker 3: But trash column absolute garbage. Okay. Well, I mean I
• 52:05
Speaker 3: was gonna ask you to make sure that that's what
• 52:07
Speaker 3: you call it. A trash column. Yep, trash now garbage. Well,
• 52:12
Speaker 3: our midday show is not complete trash. I mean it's
• 52:15
Speaker 3: you know, semi because of me. But you'll join us
• 52:17
Speaker 3: to talk about your commentary on the show today as well.
• 52:19
Speaker 3: I'll insult myself, Wilson, so you don't have to. How's that?
• 52:22
Speaker 1: Well, that takes all the fun out of it.
• 52:25
Speaker 3: All right, you guys have fun. We'll talk to you
• 52:26
Speaker 3: on Metro News today. All right, thanks a lot, Wilson
• 52:28
Speaker 3: and Meadows coming up live at ten o six with
• 52:31
Speaker 3: Metro News talk Line. I'll be like back later today
• 52:34
Speaker 3: with Metro News Midday with thirteen News in Tonight live
• 52:36
Speaker 3: anchor Manda Baron and me starting at noon today. Back
• 52:38

• 52:41
Speaker 3: Have fun. I Love Somebody.
• 52:58

• 53:01
