- 0:08begin we offer our condolences to you all on the arbayin the
- 0:1740th after the day of Araba afar with yourselves in Sharla.
- 0:32So join us on this journey towards Imam her saying today
- 0:35where we are going to be having a very very interesting
- 0:37discussion with a fantastic guest.
- 0:39But before we get into that, if you haven't already hit that
- 0:42subscribe button on YouTube. If you're following on Apple or
- 0:45Spotify or Google or wherever else, make sure to follow us and
- 0:49stay up to date as always before we get into the discussion, as
- 0:52always, my respected cohost said Ali Sao Aliko,
- 1:06how you keeping bro well, but the heart is not well, you know?
- 1:10The fact we're still here, we're not in Karbala.
- 1:12And it's a place where you know all your friends, your family,
- 1:15your relatives, the world, every love of your mom, Hussein, is
- 1:18there right now and you're here. But Hamdalala from far as you
- 1:22said, we can send our salams. The last week we had a
- 1:28fascinating discussion with Mullah Ahmad Sadir and he I
- 1:33posted this on the story. I don't know if you saw we're
- 1:36talking about dreams prior and and I had a very vivid dream.
- 1:41I was in Karnabala. I could feel the heat on my
- 1:43face. I could feel the the sand on my
- 1:46between my my feet and it was intense and I woke up feeling
- 1:51this yearning to be alongside of Abdullah.
- 1:53And then I remembered what Ahmed Sadiq said Mullah last week and
- 1:57he said there's a mum. Hussein needs us.
- 1:59Wherever we are in the world. If we're alongside him, we're
- 2:01beside him. We have a purpose.
- 2:03We're there to pay. Our two hours are but in
- 2:05Charlotte we have maybe some some opportunity to do something
- 2:08here and joining us in Charlotte to allow us to further
- 2:12understand this and maybe to reap the benefits of this
- 2:15blessed day is none other than say it's because when it's I
- 2:20love. Bless you both.
- 2:21It's my honor to be here. Say thank you so much for
- 2:24joining us. During the It's a pleasure to
- 2:26have you in the houses. How long has it been since
- 2:29you've been in? The Holy City of London 10
- 2:33years, but it feels very. Different because almost
- 2:36everyone we know is in Karbala right now.
- 2:39But Hamdallah, as you said, there's a purpose, you know
- 2:43someone has to recite the Magius of Imam Hussein and and the
- 2:47message of Imam Hussein is a universal one.
- 2:50So although the heart is in Karbala, but feels like you know
- 2:56you have to go where you where you need, where you're needed.
- 2:58Is it hard being an Islamic scholar at a time like this,
- 3:01where you maybe as a as a personal choice you'd prefer to
- 3:04be somewhere else, but you feel like you have responsibility to
- 3:07be with the community? Of course, this is not only
- 3:12during out of my hand, but always.
- 3:13You know, sometimes you have to travel, you have to leave your
- 3:16family, leave your kids. But there's a higher purpose in
- 3:20what we do. And then Hamdulla Chadla, Allah
- 3:23accepts us from the servants of the Athlete Bait Slam.
- 3:27And mail locks up from us. Charlotte, no doubt mail locks
- 3:31up all that you do and Charlotte give you more.
- 3:33So to continue and then do more in the service of the elevator.
- 3:37Say that I have a question, you know, you know, I haven't said,
- 3:40you know is it difficult, you know, to choose not to go to
- 3:43Carabala because you have to serve.
- 3:46What can we say to those who want to go by Congo?
- 3:49They're not serving. But I I have so much people that
- 3:51we get so much messages and I think it's nice that we start
- 3:53the conversation here. I want to go.
- 3:56I just can't go. There's so much obstacles.
- 3:58Be at work, you know, be a financial situations, be it
- 4:02family commitments, be be it physically done, able to go.
- 4:06Now I have heard people can do, you know, hydrant on water on
- 4:09your behalf, for example. Can the same happen for Ziata as
- 4:12well? Of course Ziata can be done on
- 4:14behalf of anyone and we even have a hadith where Imam al Hadi
- 4:19al is Saddam. He actually sent someone.
- 4:23To go and pray for him as they hire, Yes.
- 4:28And the when Imam and Hadi fell ill, he has a companion.
- 4:31His name is Abu Hashemal Jaffery.
- 4:34He tells Abu Hashemal Jaffery Find me someone that goes to
- 4:37Karbara and will pray for me. So the man was confused and Abu
- 4:42Hashem Jaffery was probably confused.
- 4:44He's an Imam. Why is he asking someone else to
- 4:48go and pray for him while he's an imam?
- 4:51So then the Imam al is Saddam. He says Rasola loss of Allah Ali
- 4:56who Allah was greater than the Kaba and the Hajjar.
- 4:59I mean however Rasola law used to go to the Kaba and Rasola
- 5:03used to go to the Hajjar and then the Imam.
- 5:07He says that there are places where a loss of Hana Hotel Allah
- 5:10likes to be asked and Karbala is one of them.
- 5:14So definitely you could send someone and I believe in Shala
- 5:17that we have some friends, we have some many in that are
- 5:20already including us in our DA and their DA and their ziada.
- 5:25But sending someone for niada, this is something that is
- 5:28totally accepted and and a lot of us who are not there of
- 5:32course. Now today being Thursday we are
- 5:35in the day of Adebayan depending obviously where you are in the
- 5:38world and and kind of how you are commemorating it.
- 5:42Some of us went to Magalis last night but what what can we do
- 5:45now that the day is upon us and we are reflecting on what
- 5:51happened 40 days ago said how do we pay our respects to the Holy
- 5:54Imam today. Are there any recommended acts,
- 5:57anything we can be doing to make the most of the day?
- 6:00And yeah, how do we kind of approach?
- 6:01It so of course there's a ziata. There's a special ziata for Imam
- 6:05Hussein on the day of Arbain. And as we know, there's ziadas
- 6:09for Imam Hussein. Throughout the whole year and
- 6:13probably every important Islamic occasion.
- 6:16There's a ziada for Imam Hussein, yeah, on the day of
- 6:18raid we visit Imam Hussein and the month of Ramadan, Leila
- 6:21Salkar. And every night during Shah
- 6:23Ramadan, there's a specific ziada for Imam Hussein and Rajab
- 6:26and Shaban and. Throughout the whole Arafah,
- 6:30throughout the whole, almost every major Islamic occasion,
- 6:33there's a Z Auto for remember saying honest.
- 6:35And on the day of Arbine, there's a Z Auto for remember to
- 6:37say. Now, of course for those who are
- 6:40feeling bad, we didn't make it this year.
- 6:43I know I you could probably make it for other Z autos like out of
- 6:47like Shaban. You know, Leila, Salka and
- 6:52Ashura. And perhaps, perhaps, I'm not
- 6:56saying with full certainty, but perhaps the other ziatas, their
- 7:03chain of narrations in terms of authenticity from the Imam is
- 7:08stronger than Ziata Til Arbine. Really.
- 7:12Yes, so for example. If I'm not mistaken, say Dil
- 7:17Hoi, he was asked which ziada is greater and I believe he
- 7:22replied, for example, Ziada to Arafa.
- 7:25Ziada to Arafa is greater because of the chain of
- 7:28narrations not to you know, have people stop going for the ziadas
- 7:35that are buying, of course, but just to make you make us feel.
- 7:37Better make us feel better because.
- 7:39We missed out the there are Ziadas that are.
- 7:43For example, you know Arafa a lot, answers the do I have the
- 7:46visitors of the man Hussein before those who are already in
- 7:48Arafa? Yes, and I think life, I mean,
- 7:51at least I found that visiting Karbala in different times of
- 7:54the year has a different feel on each occasion.
- 7:58Whenever you go to Karbala or even to Najaf, you always have a
- 8:01different experience, a different sensation.
- 8:04You'll you'll encounter different types of people
- 8:06there'll be different sorts of about that that are going on and
- 8:10there's always something to learn something to gain.
- 8:12So it's it's very nice to handle that say I think what what we
- 8:17really wanted to discuss. So over the last like few weeks
- 8:20you know we have been assessing the story of about De La Hussein
- 8:26from inception until the contemporary kind of thought and
- 8:31in terms of practice where do we go from here.
- 8:35So we've spent weeks and weeks in Aza in morning chosen.
- 8:40A lot of us now are going to step back into the world of
- 8:43reality. Some of us will return from Iraq
- 8:46and come go back to our nine to five jobs and thrown back into
- 8:49the deep end of day-to-day life. Where do we go from here?
- 8:53Because there's obviously so many, so many responsibilities
- 8:55for us, but we not sure kind of how to go about it.
- 8:58So I believe that the journey to Imam Hussein Ali as Salam is
- 9:03continuous. Some people are walking.
- 9:07Or some people finish the walk and they're going back home.
- 9:09But the journey to Imam Hussein, we're all on it.
- 9:12And we're because it's not just reaching Karbala physically.
- 9:16Being in Karbala, I think we have to look at it.
- 9:19We have to look at the bigger picture and we have to try to
- 9:22aspire to be like that which Imam Hussein wants us to be.
- 9:27Have I reached that goal or have I not reached that goal?
- 9:30In terms of my family, in terms of my spirituality, in terms of
- 9:33my halab, in terms of my abada? All aspects.
- 9:36There's lessons to learn from Imam Hussein or from the
- 9:39companions of Imam Hussein. One of those who are with Imam
- 9:42Hussein. So we are all on a journey to be
- 9:46husseiny, so we're not physically walking.
- 9:50But we're on the journey to be with Imam Hussain.
- 9:53And like Imam Hussain and that journey doesn't Muharram my end,
- 9:57suffer my end. But that journey should never
- 9:59end. We should always aspire to
- 10:02follow our role models, starting with Rasoda lasso, La, Hale,
- 10:06Hale La Kat, Kan Ela, Comfi, rasso de la He, Oswatan, Hassan,
- 10:09Immiran, Many and Fatimasez. Although we are commemorating
- 10:21but one way of doing injustice to the ahlid bait is that as
- 10:24soon As for example stuff are finished some people they go
- 10:28back to their routine life and if the routine life is not doing
- 10:32anything Haram then Hamdulla, but sometimes some of us we
- 10:36start falling, we start drifting slowly away from the values that
- 10:41we've been remembering and crying for for.
- 10:44This days and weeks and months. Well, this is a good point.
- 10:47And you know we had the podcast recently where we have the
- 10:50guests also mentioned something very similar say then he was
- 10:52like, you know, Muharram and stuff are.
- 10:54The problem with us is that we take Muharram and suffer and
- 10:56that's how we stop. Yeah.
- 10:57But he mentioned a very critical point here and I it hit me
- 11:00really hard. He was like Muharram and suffer
- 11:02at the time of mourning and grief.
- 11:04The next 10 months is when the real work starts.
- 11:06Yeah, yeah. Because if, if.
- 11:08And we've also had a very, you know, a deep conversation called
- 11:11parttime Muslims many, many weeks ago saying and we spoke
- 11:16about this where we were like, you know, when so.
- 11:19Parttime Muslims is like buffet Muslims.
- 11:21It's. Like for example what you want
- 11:23how long comes when Muslim for 10 day long comes.
- 11:26What is that terminology? And and and I and I think this
- 11:31sort of answers that that discussion we had much earlier,
- 11:33I was thinking the same thing. So that it gave me some
- 11:35flashbacks to our previous conversations we have and it's
- 11:38and it's so important that we don't let go of them because I
- 11:40feel like we neglect them. And we disrespect that.
- 11:43Can I ask you say it. Yeah.
- 11:44You know this discussion had part time Muslims and entering
- 11:47Muharram, we the, I remember in the first week in the first
- 11:51conversation we referenced this. We said let's not be part time
- 11:53Muslims. Let's not be Muslims for 50 days
- 11:57and then after the day of Adebayin we are we are done.
- 12:00You know, we're not thinking about anything else.
- 12:02What what? What do you feel we can do to
- 12:04kind of keep going, keep our self on the right track because
- 12:09we discussed this a few weeks? Ago I I think the best answer to
- 12:11this for me personally and coming from my, you know, circle
- 12:15of friends or surroundings environment is that whatever you
- 12:18changed, that means you knew, you knew what you were doing is
- 12:21wrong. The fact you start to accept and
- 12:24acknowledge that what you left behind during these ten nights
- 12:27or during these 30 days during the month of Ramadan, the fact
- 12:30you left them is wrong. So you know already you are, you
- 12:33know, shall we say you, you are pressing yourself by sitting to
- 12:36a loss of Hana by, you know, going against the teachings of
- 12:39Rasola Muhammad Sala la Hawaani. Wanna send them.
- 12:41So the fact that you can acknowledge what you're doing is
- 12:43wrong. Make sure you don't go back to
- 12:45that wrong. But I don't think it's easy, no.
- 12:48As much as I say you know my environments, but my
- 12:50environments is mixed. I see Marsha la, you know.
- 12:54People have a lot of God's beauty.
- 12:56Yeah, yeah. People see beauty and
- 12:59everything, but then people see beauty in the studio as well.
- 13:02How can we like I can say get rid of the studio feeling where
- 13:06this contentment that we are happy with this world, in fact
- 13:09we should be working for the next World.
- 13:13So this is the $1,000,000 question that everyone's you
- 13:16know, how can we pounds you on the UK million?
- 13:25You know, I think one of the one of the ways of kind of always
- 13:30reminding ourselves to stay on track is through the obligations
- 13:34that a loss of Hanna Tada has made wajo upon us.
- 13:37For example Salah we when we pray the Salah has a purpose in
- 13:43the Salah to Tenha and Infasha prayer is supposed to cleanse
- 13:48you. The Holy Prophet referred to it
- 13:50as a He told he tells the Muslims imagine a stream of
- 13:54water in front of your house and you go and you dip yourself.
- 13:57You you wash yourself five times a day.
- 13:59How clean are you going to be? They all said you're going to be
- 14:01very clean. Tells them this is exactly what
- 14:03Salat does. So but the problem is a lot of
- 14:07us we pray but we feel like our prayer is not really our prayer
- 14:13isn't. It's become so routine, it's not
- 14:15effective where it's not effective anymore.
- 14:17Or for example, giving sadaka or there's one thing the narrations
- 14:23of the albeit talk about cus what's it called when the when
- 14:26the heart becomes hard because of you know, probably so much
- 14:32wrong sinning evil vices that we're exposed to that it becomes
- 14:37very normal for us. You see something wrong, You see
- 14:39war, you see bloodshed, you see hunger, you see people deprived.
- 14:43And we're not moved anymore, so. Try to go back to your core, try
- 14:49to go back to what God has commanded and try to contemplate
- 14:55on the Ibad, the contemplate on everything that a loss of Hannoi
- 14:58Tada has given you. That's the that's the only way
- 15:00that we could kind of say and strengthen ourselves.
- 15:02Some some can say, I don't think they disagree with anything, but
- 15:05I think some people have this guilt within them where they say
- 15:08I've done so much hot on, I've done so much sin.
- 15:11There is no way on God's green earth Allah's going to forgive
- 15:14me. Well, that is that is one of the
- 15:18greatest of the sins to undermine the mercy of a loss of
- 15:22Han Otala. While I talk not to Omad
- 15:24Rahmatsala giving up hope on God that that is a greater sin than
- 15:29than what you can imagine. I mentioned in my measures Imam
- 15:33Zenila Abdinal, his Salaam he he saw a man.
- 15:38Who was crying and crying and crying?
- 15:40Allah forgive me and I know you will not forgive me, Imamsen
- 15:43Abdin tells him. How could you say that?
- 15:45How could you say something like that?
- 15:47God is the all forgiving. God is the merciful, he tells
- 15:50the Imam. I participated in the murder of
- 15:52Abdullah. I participated in the murder of
- 15:54your father. You think God will forgive me
- 15:56for that? Imams in Abdinalah Salaam.
- 16:00He did not tell him God will forgive you.
- 16:02Imam Zela Abedin tells him the fact that you have given up hope
- 16:06on the mercy of God is a greater sin than even killing Imam
- 16:09Hussein. Now of course we know that
- 16:14there's the sins, they have consequences.
- 16:17Just like for example if someone drinks a drinks a cup of poison,
- 16:21God might forgive you, but that poison is going to have an
- 16:25effect on you. So sinning.
- 16:29And living a lifestyle that is very far from God.
- 16:33Yes, we might want to have a change of heart, but sometimes
- 16:37that sinful lifestyle, it has consumed us so much.
- 16:42It has darkened our heart so much that there is no there's a
- 16:46point of no return. But the there is not from God.
- 16:49God is forgiving. God will always forgive.
- 16:51But I have caused so much damage to myself that it becomes hard
- 16:54to go back. So we say that the one who for
- 16:57example. Killed him.
- 16:59I'm saying God is forgiving if they were to repent, but because
- 17:03the sin that they have done has caused so much damage for them
- 17:06that, you know, just like a heart, sometimes they they'll,
- 17:10the doctors will tell you we could fix this heart.
- 17:12We could work on it, go exercise.
- 17:13We'll do stents. We'll do all these things, some
- 17:16cholesterol medicine. But at one some point you reach
- 17:19a point where the doctors are saying, you know you need a
- 17:21heart transplant. We can't do anything.
- 17:23This heart, Yeah, yeah, there's a lot I think which like a lot
- 17:29of lessons, microcosmic lessons to take away from Arbayin and
- 17:34Arshara in general. And that build up towards
- 17:37Arbayin. One of which I think is some of
- 17:40us get taken, we get swept with the tide of Azar.
- 17:44So you see the passion and like you're basking in the glory of
- 17:48Azar in in Majallis shuts off hard slopum you can imagine.
- 17:53And outside of the Majlis, a lot of us are not really doing what
- 17:57we should be doing, like you said, say.
- 17:58So either we'll slip back into bad routines, we'll stop doing
- 18:01the good things we've implemented, or we'll start
- 18:03redoing the bad things we stopped prior.
- 18:06And unfortunately, the things which have kept us closer to the
- 18:10imam, such as the mourning, the tears and so on, once that
- 18:15stops, suddenly the interest drops.
- 18:18Do you see what I mean? So I mean one thing for me which
- 18:21I found on a personal level is when you understand that
- 18:24Abdullah Hussain Islam is is Miss Bahl Hoddawa Sephina Tanja
- 18:29and that he can transport you directly to alas Panwad Allah in
- 18:34the fastest and the widest ship. As we say we find that it's it's
- 18:39very easy to understand a lot when you understand Karbala and
- 18:42you understand in Mama Hussain because you can find examples as
- 18:45I mentioned in your microcosmic day-to-day life every single day
- 18:49in Karbala. Whether you're talking about
- 18:52doing the right thing and not the easy thing.
- 18:54You look at hold. Whether you talk about
- 18:55respecting your siblings look up I will find that I'm bossing
- 18:58Mama Hussain. Whether you're talking about
- 19:01mercy, you talk about water and and the giving of water and the
- 19:04deprivation of water on Karbala. So I think the for me one, one
- 19:10of the main lessons I'd say on for me on Arbain is the
- 19:13reflection element. It's it's good to memorize
- 19:16hadith and it's good to read loads of books, but are we
- 19:20actually understanding them? Are we taking the way away the
- 19:23lessons Because I'm a South Asian Khurja man born 1400 years
- 19:27later, thousands of miles away from Kadabala.
- 19:29What relevance does it have to my life today?
- 19:32For me, it's the lessons I can take from Kadabala and I can
- 19:35apply those lessons outside of this season.
- 19:37So maybe we should come together.
- 19:39And I know said you wanted to talk about Community Action and
- 19:41community kind of reaction in this season, but one of the
- 19:46things we can take away in the community is how to use these
- 19:49lessons from Kadabala and then maybe to implement them on an
- 19:51individual and on a mass scale. So I know I'm talking a lot of
- 19:55hot air perhaps, but I think it's maybe a time for for me to
- 19:59ask you say as a as a community leader, as a community guide,
- 20:04what what do you want to see in your community and in our
- 20:07community following this period of of spiritual transformation?
- 20:13So you know, one of the biggest blessings that we have is Imam
- 20:18Hussein. And the remembrance of Imam
- 20:20Hussein, it really revives communities.
- 20:22It really brings communities together.
- 20:24You know I was I was thinking imagine if we didn't have Imam
- 20:28Hussein, Imagine if we didn't have these ten nights Majalas,
- 20:32where would all these Shia, where would all these you know,
- 20:37people be all of these pleasures all of so much benefit for some
- 20:43people so much dema, all of that.
- 20:45You know, where would where would people get all that from.
- 20:49So you might have some measure because they might not like
- 20:54that. But I'm not.
- 20:54I'm not. I'm just a.
- 20:56Staple quote He's He loves. He loves we both.
- 21:00Carbala is, yeah. So, you know, Iman Hussein,
- 21:06Saddam really revives us. And in terms of lectures, right
- 21:11now you just Google, you know, every year you have lecture, you
- 21:15have speakers that give lectures, at least 10 lectures
- 21:20during Muharram. If you sit throughout the whole
- 21:23year and just listen to all of the all of the speakers that
- 21:26you'll, you'll have enough, you'll have enough lectures that
- 21:29will, you know, for for the whole year.
- 21:32But we have to so so there's a lot of benefit and blessings
- 21:36that come from I'm Hussain but we have to try to go beyond what
- 21:40is what the majadas are limited to within the walls of the
- 21:44Husseinia within within our cultural practices.
- 21:47So there's a lot of things. I think we need to introduce
- 21:50Iman Husain to the world. I I live in America.
- 21:55Do Americans know about Mad Hussein?
- 21:57No. Do British people, all British
- 21:59people know about Madam Hussein? No.
- 22:02I mean the non-muslim British people.
- 22:05So we need to, we need to introduce people.
- 22:08So sometimes maybe some community members might not like
- 22:12that because it's a little bit different, but sometimes we have
- 22:15to think outside the box and try to attract millions of other
- 22:20potential followers of Imamin Hussein towards Imamin Hussein.
- 22:25And one of the best ways of doing so is through community,
- 22:29community type of, you know, events, community service,
- 22:33volunteering. Some people do blood drives,
- 22:37going out and giving out leaflets and you know, just
- 22:41letting people know about. And I'm just saying right now,
- 22:44one thing I admire about, you know, some Christian movements,
- 22:47some of them, you know, they, they really push that narrative.
- 22:51And it's true, we believe that Jesus was a loving person, a
- 22:55compassionate person, a community service person.
- 22:58He he served everyone. He didn't discriminate between
- 23:01the white and the black and the rich and the poor.
- 23:04That's a that's something that, you know, you see this narrative
- 23:07pushed by some, some Christians in their in their community
- 23:12service, in their charities, in their hospital work and they're
- 23:15volunteering. You know, you see some
- 23:17Christians, they're old, but they're doing volunteer work, so
- 23:23and they're doing volunteer work that is serving other other
- 23:26religions, other groups of people.
- 23:28We should do that too. We saw the hair in the pandemic
- 23:31say so that Dima, it could. It shouldn't be, you know, only
- 23:35for the lovers of the island Bay.
- 23:37It could be for everyone, you know, Imagine the.
- 23:40Power of it, They'll bring people to us.
- 23:42It's got Tabarrok. Tabarrok I'm sure has some sort
- 23:44of. Calories.
- 23:45No calories. You mentioned the Christian
- 23:47community and you know, it just reminded me of when when we, you
- 23:51know, when the world was going through the coronavirus and the
- 23:53pandemic and everything. A lot of churches and apple of
- 23:55church. Nearby to my house, it was
- 23:58serving the entire neighborhood. The church was.
- 24:00The church was. In terms of like if you can't go
- 24:03out and shopping, we'll do the shopping for you.
- 24:05If you need help with anything, if there's elderly people will
- 24:07go, go, that get the medicine for you.
- 24:09There was a lot of community work going on, so important and
- 24:12reminding me of a very famous saying I always say about
- 24:14Christians, Jesus loves you. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 24:17Jesus loves. You Hi.
- 24:18That. That grabs your attention
- 24:20straight away. You grabbed it right right
- 24:22there. And I think we need to do that
- 24:23more than we need to do that more.
- 24:25Than you said bringing my Hussein to the wider community.
- 24:28Like for someone who is like, I'm going to be really blunt for
- 24:32for a young kid who's going through a drug addiction or
- 24:35people listening to music or engaging in in illicit relations
- 24:38or whatever. Like blood drives and stuff like
- 24:41that on the surface levels. Like how does that change my
- 24:44life? I have a a problem or an
- 24:46addiction and I'm coming out of my no, it's it's the messaging
- 24:49behind it. It's the inspiration from it
- 24:52that is Imam and Hussein and Les.
- 24:54And that, in a wider sense, will bring people towards a narrative
- 24:58of mercy and love and community service is that.
- 25:01Like who is Hussein? Yeah, who's the same?
- 25:03Who is Hussein does that Giving out water bottles where
- 25:08anything, you know, there's so many things that we could do.
- 25:10There's not everything I. Say, if you don't mind me saying
- 25:13yes, if I can be very like, of course, devil's advocate, that
- 25:16is on an external level. So you are that by what you're
- 25:18saying, water bottles, blood drives, leaflets, pamphlets
- 25:22Hussein loves you Signs that is informing the wider community,
- 25:26wider society, about mum Hussein.
- 25:28I'm specifically thinking about the Shia community who are going
- 25:32through issues and the transformative desire that we
- 25:34have to change ourselves. Like engaging in those
- 25:37activities is definitely one thing we can do.
- 25:39The volunteering will bring people together and change us.
- 25:43You know, issues. I have someone going through a
- 25:45divorce, someone going through whatever it is, issues with
- 25:49their family and work and whatever it might be.
- 25:51But like at this critical junction we are at, you know,
- 25:56after Adebayan. Like like there's people who are
- 26:01who are in the thick of it now. Like, do you see what I mean?
- 26:04Like the the the all the noise and the dust around you has
- 26:08settled after other buying. Now you're back into reality and
- 26:12you go into work the next day and you have a boss who's
- 26:14screaming at you. You check your paycheck and your
- 26:16paycheck is not meeting your expenses.
- 26:18And it's the heat is on, the pressure's on.
- 26:22How does one connect? Imam and Hussein Alehis Salaam
- 26:26and Karabala and Arabain and Ashwara to their daytoday life
- 26:30when they are followers of Abdullad Hussein, because I
- 26:32think that's really an issue that the youth are facing today,
- 26:35generally speaking across the West.
- 26:37Neil, I don't know if you agree we have brother Neil Nasser is a
- 26:39good friend of us behind the camera, but this is something I
- 26:41feel like, Neil, you do a lot of community work and a lot of
- 26:44youth work, you work in social enterprises and so on.
- 26:47I just wanted to ask you if you've got any any thoughts on
- 26:49this or any any kind of? Thoughts on on Because you you
- 26:54you get involved with work for spreading the name Mamma Sen and
- 26:58obviously you work with the youth of the Shia community.
- 27:00Do you want to come use the microphone?
- 27:03No shout. Thank you.
- 27:05I'll pick up. Yeah, yeah, definitely pick up.
- 27:07So. Yeah, it's it's.
- 27:10I think you hit the nail on the head there.
- 27:11It's about thinking outside the box.
- 27:13It's not just thinking that one narrative like you're going to
- 27:17spread the name of Abdullah. Just through giving out the
- 27:20pamphlets or the water or whatever, it's about living the
- 27:24values of AB Abdullah, living the values of him.
- 27:27So if you see an elderly person that's struggling on the street
- 27:32with their shopping bags, it's about going there and helping
- 27:36over their shopping bags, Muslim or non-muslim.
- 27:39And maybe your walk with the elderly person spots off a
- 27:43conversation, and maybe that conversation may lead into the
- 27:46fact that you're a Muslim. And you could talk to them about
- 27:49Imam saying that they Salaam, you could talk to them, but it
- 27:51may not. But just the value that you're
- 27:53doing, you're doing that service towards him because you've
- 27:56learned that value and that principle, you know, working
- 27:59with the homeless people, as you know, we've done for many years
- 28:02and you talked about drug addiction, you know, we have had
- 28:05the opportunity to help. People and support people to get
- 28:09off those drugs. Now it's not me going in there
- 28:14saying. You know, I'm a husseinia.
- 28:16I'm going to be there. I'm going to beat my chest.
- 28:19I'm going to do everything and and not do anything about this
- 28:22person that's struggling with this addiction.
- 28:24No, I'm going to take the values and the principles of the
- 28:27humanitarian that ABBA Abdullah was this person as a human being
- 28:33and try to help him through the connections that I have through
- 28:36the NHS and other services. And the Habdullah, This person
- 28:39is now off the heroin that he was taking.
- 28:43And now this person, a non-muslim, comes to serve at
- 28:47the Food Drive 360, right? Yeah.
- 28:51So he knows about Imam Hussein through the actions that we did
- 28:55to get what I mean. Now they seem to be a simple,
- 28:58very simple You knock on the neighbor's door.
- 29:01I'm going to the school. Do you?
- 29:02Need anything do you need? Anything.
- 29:04Yeah, Small. And that's how.
- 29:05That's how the Prophet, you know, really invited people to
- 29:09Islam. That's how the athlete weight
- 29:10worked. Yeah.
- 29:11It seems that right now we're reducing this whole concept and
- 29:16of Imam Hussein and everything that he stood for to.
- 29:20We're simplifying it to just the Magalas and the loved them and
- 29:23and all this is good. We're supposed to do that
- 29:25because that gives a voice to Imam Hussein and it gives a
- 29:29platform for teaching people more about Imam Hussein.
- 29:32But I think we need to take it a step further.
- 29:35And as exactly as Neil said, you know, community service, helping
- 29:39out people, the Holy Prophet used to do that sort of law.
- 29:42Why was he a mercy to mankind? And you would do that to
- 29:45non-Muslims. To non-Muslims.
- 29:46And there's an interesting story where he, he helped the lady and
- 29:51she didn't know who he was. Yeah, in Mecca.
- 29:54And then she tells him, you know what, you seem like a Goodman.
- 29:56I want to give you a piece of advice.
- 29:58There's this crazy lunatic. His name is Mohammed.
- 30:01Yeah. Don't follow him.
- 30:03That's the advice that I'm giving you.
- 30:04He told her I'm Mohammed. So it shows, you know, he was
- 30:09actually practicing what he preaches.
- 30:12And probably 90% of not only Islam's preaching but the
- 30:17preaching of all of the prophets is community service.
- 30:19Helping out others, helping your neighbors, helping your friends,
- 30:22being kind to your parents. These are all ways that we could
- 30:25be like Imam Hussein and followers of Imam Hussein and
- 30:27they have made spot. A lot.
- 30:30And you know, being our buying this whole community thing,
- 30:32well, it just took me back to like Headman, you know, service
- 30:35and like. You know you would give
- 30:38everything in the name of Imam with per se and I think that's
- 30:40something we can apply in our in our own life and it's a nice
- 30:42thought to have what would per se do, what would Russell, La La
- 30:45do, but I think that's something.
- 30:47I'm really going to miss the headman all of that every year
- 30:49when at this time of year it's like withdrawal symptoms already
- 30:53kick in, you know, and you think Hamdulah Hara bilali mean for
- 30:58all the blessings we've had over the last few weeks to do
- 31:01whatever service we've done. In the Majalis, even outside of
- 31:04the Majalis, there's no time in the year like this.
- 31:07Time harm and suffer and I'm really going to miss it.
- 31:11Charlotte we get granted more, many dozens more in Charlotte.
- 31:15Visitation about it is emotional it.
- 31:18Is really, really emotional, you know?
- 31:19Today I was watching a video, someone shared a clip with me on
- 31:22my WhatsApp and it was someone who just yesterday sets up his
- 31:26MO kit. During the mashia.
- 31:28So. So the people went to ask me
- 31:31they're filming this conversation.
- 31:32They're like why you setting up now?
- 31:33Yeah. His sister he's building he's
- 31:36erecting the the tents and and he was like I just managed to
- 31:40get my I just sold my car. I just got my money now to do
- 31:42this. Wow.
- 31:44Because I tried so much to, you know this this car wasn't making
- 31:47him go to work and come back because he goes.
- 31:49I realize now there's literally a few days left towards the
- 31:53Mashia ending. I have to sell my car by if I
- 31:56want to serve and my whole life revives their own service and
- 32:00headsman community work. I need to sell my own personal
- 32:03belongings car which is so important to his day-to-day life
- 32:06just to serve. And this teaches you that you
- 32:10know there's no it's you're never too late in the service of
- 32:12them. Hussein.
- 32:13Just like when we talk about the companions of them Hussein.
- 32:16There were some who were with him from day one when he left,
- 32:20and there were some who joined last minute.
- 32:22But now as long as you join, as long as you are in it, you know
- 32:28you are living that the Hussein, your lifestyle and you're
- 32:31following the teachings of a man, Hussein.
- 32:33That's what's the most important.
- 32:35Said what? What advice would you give to
- 32:38us? Obviously in the next few weeks
- 32:39we have a lot of landmark occasions in our community, so
- 32:42obviously we have Faso, Sulma, Muhammad, Salah, Hawali, Wali.
- 32:46Suddenly we have Aiden Zahra coming up, Then we have Milad
- 32:50Nabi coming up. All these.
- 32:52Major occasions coming up, now moving forward, what would you
- 32:58advise the community from from your perspective as to how to
- 33:03approach these these major occasions how to see the Islam
- 33:07and how to kind of like approach because now look a lot of a lot
- 33:11of us would have made personal oaths in these days to say I
- 33:13want to make be a better person I want to follow last ones on
- 33:16them in a more beneficial way. How do we now move forward when
- 33:19it comes to these key events? So you know, and Hamdallah
- 33:23Allah, Sabhanota Allah has given US14 lights, not just Imam
- 33:27Hussain, Ali, Saddam, even though the remembrance of Imam
- 33:30Hussein takes up a lot of time. But we have Rasodallah, you
- 33:35know, tell people about Rasodallah.
- 33:37What's wrong with having educational lectures on the life
- 33:41of Rasodallah, on the life of Fatima Tzara, on the added bait
- 33:44Alim as Saddam. I would encourage the continuing
- 33:48of the Majales, but I would also push it a little bit more.
- 33:51You know, do something creative, do something different.
- 33:56For example, do a play about the life of the prophet. 11 scene
- 34:00from the life of the Prophet. You know in your community, in
- 34:03your centers do something about Fatima Zahra.
- 34:06You know a project in the name of Fatima Zahra, a project in
- 34:09the name of the added bait. We this is how we could we could
- 34:14learn more about the added bait and feel more connected with
- 34:18them and tell other people, tell more people about the Ahil
- 34:21Bethanyam Saddam by not limiting them just to our centers and our
- 34:26personal modalities, but do things that are unique.
- 34:30For example this podcast, this is something that not everyone
- 34:34does. It's something that's unique
- 34:35Mashallah and you know the fact that you're the style is
- 34:41different and you're trying to talk to the youth and tell you
- 34:45know bringing it at a personal level, this is different.
- 34:47So let's with with regards to the Prophet, with regards to
- 34:51Fatima Zara, there's, you know, there's so much room for
- 34:54creativity and I believe that Islam encourages that and in the
- 35:00service of the elevator also encourages that.
- 35:02It's very kind of you say to mention us.
- 35:04You're enduring that advice I had also.
- 35:08No, I'm just. I echoed another question, and
- 35:11since you've bought out the podcast, what advice would you
- 35:14give us in this podcast? Something we can learn from.
- 35:18So I would, I would recommend you know, dealing with real
- 35:22problem, the real issues that people are dealing with.
- 35:25Sometimes some people, they feel that the mumba, this pulpit that
- 35:30we're we're speaking on is kind of above the people you know,
- 35:35where it's not really connecting with people, with the needs of
- 35:39the people, the needs of community members.
- 35:42And you have variety of needs. You have the young, the old, the
- 35:45woman, the children. They all have different needs.
- 35:48We have different struggles that the community is dealing with
- 35:50and different communities across the globe are dealing with
- 35:53different needs and struggles. So I would advise that this
- 35:59podcast try to focus on real issues that people are dealing
- 36:04with and try to talk about it in a way where it would bring
- 36:11address the problem and it would also bring solutions, real life
- 36:15solutions. Because sometimes some people
- 36:18just talk about problems and there's no real solutions.
- 36:21And this could probably give people a voice talking about.
- 36:26For example, there's there's a lot of hot topic issues that are
- 36:29often neglected, mental health issues, depression, anxiety.
- 36:36I thought it is important, but I thought we hear about that a lot
- 36:39on the member, on the pulpits, but these are real issues that
- 36:43people could connect with on this.
- 36:45So if you mind if I ask, I know we're going to slightly go off
- 36:47on a bit of a tangent is some may ask, is that not the role of
- 36:51the member to address these real life issues?
- 36:54The role of the member is to do that.
- 36:56But the problem is the member is set up in a way where it's not
- 37:01interactive. For example, yeah, there's no,
- 37:04no one could come and, you know, raise their hands and say I have
- 37:07a question, they don't. Rarely do we do Q&A sessions
- 37:11with the scholars, with the speakers.
- 37:13So this it could be, it could be made in that way where you know,
- 37:18perhaps you could get messages and talk about real issues, real
- 37:24questions that are people are dealing with and you address it
- 37:27heart to heart, you know? I mean the The thing is we are
- 37:30so blessed because our our Al Qaeda has remained strong and
- 37:36firm, because of the institution of Baracharya and because of our
- 37:39scholars and because of the Manaba in general, of course.
- 37:43And we would not be, I would argue to say and we we say this
- 37:46a lot. I mean many of our communities,
- 37:49the COJA community as we say sometimes as an example,
- 37:52wouldn't be Shia if it wasn't for the member.
- 37:55Of the month, of course. And it's it's it's it's that
- 37:58which is so fundamental we should never forget this.
- 38:00But at the same time as the community has evolved and you
- 38:04know, we live in a more globalized world now the the
- 38:07needs and the challenges involved as well.
- 38:09So there is the understanding and respecting the scholars.
- 38:13Is so critical and so fundamental.
- 38:16And in a world where we have unfortunately very bad
- 38:18influences on social media and you've got people who really
- 38:21badly misrepresent Islam and Shiism on social media, I think
- 38:26now more than ever we need positive role models.
- 38:28And now they say that your, your, yourself and and your
- 38:34associates kind of who who are speaking around the world, have
- 38:37taken to social media and it's been so engaging.
- 38:40I really like that, you know. Yeah.
- 38:43You do it yourself, although I should ask you to do it some
- 38:45more because you don't post enough, but when you do post,
- 38:48you post some fantastic reels. It gives us alternatives away
- 38:51from the junk that we see. Honestly, it's amazing.
- 38:55I remember we had a discussion here as well.
- 38:57Previously. I was like, it's so amazing when
- 38:58you see our special guys. I was called as releasing clips,
- 39:01show videos, you know, holding like live sessions.
- 39:03Yeah, we we all want to see what's happening.
- 39:06We all want to learn from this, and it's an alternative for us.
- 39:08Social media is dangerous. The one why, Why are people
- 39:12really into social media? Because it opens door for
- 39:14interaction. Yeah.
- 39:16So it's not a one way, you know, you're just, you're just
- 39:19listening to a lecture. You could kind of give feedback,
- 39:22you could send messages. A lot of people reach out to me
- 39:25on social media. They ask questions and there's
- 39:28interaction. I spoke with you on Instagram.
- 39:31Yeah, even though you should have my number, but.
- 39:34That's the importance of, you know, being you can interact
- 39:37with. I think I had your number, but
- 39:39you changed your phone number or something.
- 39:41Exposed. Yes, yes.
- 39:42Not all. No, no, no, no.
- 39:44Yeah. So this podcast is something new
- 39:50and it's a way of serving. It's a way of spreading the
- 39:53message of my Hussein, and I encourage you to continue in
- 39:57what you're doing and shall end up with your DWAS.
- 40:00Yeah, of course, of course. Anil Zoz.
- 40:02And you're very quiet, but you know there's a smile on your
- 40:05face. And so pan Allah, whenever I see
- 40:07you know, actually. Be behind the camera for once.
- 40:10Yeah, Neil, every time I see you, there's like Nora
- 40:13Marshallah. He likes illuminates my
- 40:14hairstyle. Habibi, Habibi said.
- 40:20Say thank you so much for joining us, my love for guiding
- 40:24us with your wisdom and your knowledge.
- 40:26We pray that Los Fontana accepts all your Amman, all your Hajads,
- 40:29your efforts, all your Majadas in the last couple of months and
- 40:33of course in the last few days where you've been serving the
- 40:35Hali community. Are you coming back to London
- 40:38anytime soon? Not that I have nothing planned
- 40:43right now. Who knows?
- 40:45We'll see how things go. We have a really we'll find
- 40:48after dinner. We'll have a really busy
- 40:51community in Michigan, Michigan, Michigan, where we established
- 40:55the new Islamic Center about a year ago, and it's called Mecca.
- 41:00So if you want to go to Mecca in America, it stands for Muslim
- 41:06educational. You get the visas.
- 41:08Yeah, stands for Muslim Educational.
- 41:11Community Center of America, I like it.
- 41:13So we're we're also focusing on like creative programming
- 41:18focused on the youth and pray for us.
- 41:21So that's kind of kept me really occupied and shot of the
- 41:24opportunity comes. No matter, bless you.
- 41:27I've seen the Mecca Instagram page and a lot of the events and
- 41:31the discussions that you have, like the topics of discussion,
- 41:34are really exciting. It's nice, it's engaging and
- 41:36it's inspiring to see. Shout out to everyone from from
- 41:39Michigan because you guys are in constant healthy competition
- 41:43with London and we love it. We love it.
- 41:45Trust me, we love it. Now Handala, there's so much
- 41:48beauty and and and butterka to come out of our community, but
