- 0:03Speaker 1: You're listening to the Sean O'Connell Show from the Murdoch
- 0:07Speaker 1: Hyundai Studio of ESPN 700 and 92.1 FM.
- 0:22Speaker 2: Starting hour two of the Sean O'Connell Show in perfect
- 0:26Speaker 2: Sean O'Connell Show fashion, OC style. We're over ten minutes late,
- 0:31Speaker 2: but that's okay.
- 0:32Speaker 3: That's okay.
- 0:34Speaker 2: We're going to reset here with Dan Sorensen from Ute Zone.
- 0:38Speaker 2: No Ute Zone Wednesday this week. Devin Dampier, addition with Devin,
- 0:42Speaker 2: bumped our guy Dan Sorensen to a Ute Zone Friday
- 0:46Speaker 2: on this football Friday.
- 0:47Speaker 3: Dan, I hope you don't take that personally. Welcome to
- 0:50Speaker 3: the show.
- 0:50Speaker 4: I mean.
- 0:51Speaker 5: Thank you.
- 0:52Speaker 6: And, and, and how could I, I mean, no, no,
- 0:56Speaker 6: we don't have 50,000 people in a stadium, you know,
- 0:59Speaker 6: lining up to watch me pontificate about the youth.
- 1:03Speaker 5: So I suppose I can feed my time to Devin.
- 1:07Speaker 2: I think we did that to Sammy earlier this year too. We,
- 1:10Speaker 2: but it was for Morgan Scali. So you guys, the
- 1:12Speaker 2: only reason we bump you guys is for the head
- 1:14Speaker 2: coach or the starting quarterback.
- 1:16Speaker 3: How about that?
- 1:17Speaker 5: You know, I'll take that all day long.
- 1:21Speaker 2: Utes Insider, Utes Own segments, part of those Utes Insider

- 1:37Speaker 2: and it's a limited-time offer. That's Mountain Home Services. I
- 1:43Speaker 2: already said earlier in the show, I already admitted, I
- 1:45Speaker 2: just have nothing more to say about this game, Utah
- 1:50Speaker 2: and Colorado. But we'll come up with some things to
- 1:52Speaker 2: say here, or I'll ask you the question so you
- 1:55Speaker 2: say the things.
- 1:56Speaker 3: How about that?
- 1:57Speaker 2: It just feels like it's that much of a lopsided
- 2:01Speaker 2: matchup where it's like, just take care of business, Utah.
- 2:05Speaker 3: How do you see this?
- 2:06Speaker 2: I mean, yeah.
- 2:07Speaker 5: And on paper, absolutely.
- 2:09Speaker 1: It's a lopsided matchup and, and, and.
- 2:12Speaker 5: It's, it's really funny.
- 2:13Speaker 1: This is, this is one of those weird games, right? It's,
- 2:16Speaker 1: it's double digit point spread. There are some weird undercurrents
- 2:20Speaker 1: in the sense of some of the things that, that,
- 2:25Speaker 1: that are the, the, the game, the game behind the
- 2:27Speaker 1: game type of stories, right? So everybody of course is
- 2:30Speaker 1: talking about Isaac Wilson and, and, you know, facing off
- 2:33Speaker 1: against his old team and, And look, Isaac's an interesting
- 2:39Speaker 1: guy in the sense that Scali talked about the fact
- 2:44Speaker 1: that he's got arm talent. We saw last week he
- 2:48Speaker 1: put up, what, 290 yards on Texas Tech. Now, he
- 2:50Speaker 1: did throw three interceptions, and they were pretty bad. Two
- 2:53Speaker 1: of those were an ended double or triple coverage, and
- 2:56Speaker 1: one of them was... the guy was standing flat footed
- 3:00Speaker 1: in the end zone when he caught it. Like, I
- 3:02Speaker 1: just don't understand how that wouldn't even happen. I don't
- 3:05Speaker 1: think I've ever seen a zero yard return pick six before,
- 3:10Speaker 1: at least not that I can remember. And so the
- 3:13Speaker 1: three interceptions were bad, but he did also make some
- 3:17Speaker 1: really good throws, some throws on the run. He showed
- 3:20Speaker 1: some escape ability. And so he's got it in him.
- 3:24Speaker 1: So is the question is, can, can Isaac Wilson, can
- 3:28Speaker 1: he motivate himself and get up enough to play the
- 3:31Speaker 1: kind of game where, where he can keep his team
- 3:34Speaker 1: in it? Now, if he's the Isaac Wilson that played
- 3:37Speaker 1: for the Utes for two years, the answer to that
- 3:39Speaker 1: is is an emphatic.
- 3:41Speaker 4: No.
- 3:42Speaker 1: But once again, it's he's, he's not on the Utes.
- 3:46Speaker 5: It's a new roster. It's a new situation.
- 3:48Speaker 1: He's going to be motivated. And so really when you
- 3:51Speaker 1: look at this game overall with things like that, it's
- 3:55Speaker 1: if the youth take care of business and do what
- 3:57Speaker 1: they're supposed to do, they should win handily. But there,
- 4:00Speaker 1: there are those X factors, Isaac being one of them,
- 4:03Speaker 1: this Colorado defense. And I, and I've watched the last
- 4:06Speaker 1: couple of Colorado games. They're better than the point output.
- 4:10Speaker 5: That they've given up.
- 4:11Speaker 1: They are very tough at times. They can get after
- 4:14Speaker 1: the passer. They can make life tough on an opposing quarterback. And,
- 4:20Speaker 1: and so they're, this is a, this is a better
- 4:25Speaker 1: Colorado team than their record dictates. It's a better Colorado
- 4:29Speaker 1: team than even the on paper. When you look at the, the,
- 4:33Speaker 1: the compare the eyeball test to the, to the what's
- 4:37Speaker 1: on paper than that dictates.
- 4:40Speaker 5: And so Utah still needs to be ready for this game.
- 4:44Speaker 1: If they walk into that stadium and they expect to
- 4:47Speaker 1: just walk away with a victory because it's Colorado and
- 4:50Speaker 1: because Isaac didn't look very good as a youth, That
- 4:53Speaker 1: is a recipe for danger. But if this team does
- 4:57Speaker 1: what they should do, if they live the culture that
- 5:00Speaker 1: they've been talking about all year long, if they go
- 5:03Speaker 1: in and they do their job and handle their responsibility,
- 5:07Speaker 1: that 15 or 14 or whatever the point spread is
- 5:11Speaker 1: these days, that's not going to be an issue. They're
- 5:15Speaker 1: going to beat it once again.
- 5:16Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 5:17Speaker 2: And obviously that's the hope and that's the expectation for
- 5:20Speaker 2: this Utah team talking with Devin Dampier this week, OC
- 5:26Speaker 2: talking with him.
- 5:28Speaker 3: It sounds like that's the attitude. And one of the
- 5:30Speaker 3: reasons why.
- 5:31Speaker 2: Utah has had the early success that they've had is
- 5:34Speaker 2: that's the attitude that Devin brings into every one of
- 5:37Speaker 2: these games. Respect for the opponent. Doesn't matter who it is.
- 5:41Speaker 2: Doesn't matter if you expect to beat them by three,
- 5:45Speaker 2: four scores, two, three, four scores. You still respect them
- 5:48Speaker 2: as if you, feel like you don't have a chance
- 5:50Speaker 2: to win this game. It's that kind of professionalism that
- 5:53Speaker 2: Devin in particular has felt like he's brought into every game.
- 5:58Speaker 2: And that should give you a lot of hope that
- 6:01Speaker 2: this is not going to be one of those trap
- 6:03Speaker 2: games with Houston coming up next week, who's probably going
- 6:06Speaker 2: to be ranked at Rice Eccles Stadium.
- 6:09Speaker 5: Well, and that's just it.
- 6:10Speaker 1: And look, I'm not surprised in the least bit that
- 6:13Speaker 1: that's the kind of attitude that Devin would take. He
- 6:16Speaker 1: comes from, he was highly under-recruited based on his college
- 6:20Speaker 1: performance as a high schooler. He played for a, you know,
- 6:24Speaker 1: a mid tier Mexico, New Mexico team that, you know,
- 6:28Speaker 1: didn't they, that New Mexico team didn't go undefeated. They
- 6:31Speaker 1: got beat by a bunch of squads. But, and, and he,
- 6:35Speaker 1: so he's seen the fact that even on a team
- 6:38Speaker 1: that may not have a winning record there, you know,
- 6:40Speaker 1: himself included, there are guys that can play, you know, it's, it's,
- 6:44Speaker 1: it's hard to get to an FBS football program. You've
- 6:49Speaker 1: got to have a lot of talent, even if you're
- 6:50Speaker 1: the worst guy on the worst team, You've got to
- 6:53Speaker 1: have a lot of talent. And so that commands and
- 6:56Speaker 1: deserves respect. And so I love that Devin is very
- 7:00Speaker 1: much taking that mindset. He, of all people, should know
- 7:03Speaker 1: and will know.
- 7:04Speaker 5: And it's just that. Like, you can't have any letdowns.
- 7:08Speaker 5: And we've seen it over the years how.
- 7:10Speaker 1: Many– over, you know, Kyle Whittingham, who was the winningest
- 7:14Speaker 1: coach in the history of the program. How many times
- 7:17Speaker 1: a season would he have that? What the heck game
- 7:20Speaker 1: where the team would just come out flat against somebody
- 7:24Speaker 1: that they.
- 7:24Speaker 5: Should absolutely just pound.
- 7:26Speaker 1: Into the ground. And they would either win a narrow
- 7:30Speaker 1: one if they were lucky or they would lose and
- 7:32Speaker 1: have that just weird loss.
- 7:35Speaker 5: And it happened pretty frequently.
- 7:36Speaker 1: And so it's one of the, the tests of Morgan
- 7:40Speaker 1: Scali as a coach is, can he avoid those? Can
- 7:44Speaker 1: he make sure that his guys are up mentally and
- 7:47Speaker 1: ready for the task, regardless of who the opponent is,
- 7:50Speaker 1: don't play to the level of your opponent and go
- 7:54Speaker 1: out and take care of business when you're supposed to,
- 7:56Speaker 1: like you said, next week, there's a lot of, there's
- 7:59Speaker 1: a lot at stake. in that Utah Houston game, but
- 8:02Speaker 1: Utah has got to beat Colorado before they.
- 8:04Speaker 5: Can have anything at stake in that game.
- 8:06Speaker 1: And so it's, it's the attitude and it's, it's what
- 8:11Speaker 1: needs to happen. And it's that respect factor. There are
- 8:14Speaker 1: a bunch of, you know, there are a couple of
- 8:15Speaker 1: ex-youths on that Colorado roster. There are a bunch of
- 8:18Speaker 1: guys that Utah recruited and, and guys that they would
- 8:21Speaker 1: have taken happily. The Williams receiver was committed to the
- 8:24Speaker 1: youth at one point, and he's probably the best player
- 8:27Speaker 1: on their team. And, and the font and that kid
- 8:30Speaker 1: was a kid that Utah wanted the safety. And so,
- 8:33Speaker 1: so yeah, there, there, there are guys on the roster
- 8:36Speaker 1: that they would want. And there are guys on the
- 8:38Speaker 1: roster that deserve respect. And, and so, but if they,
- 8:40Speaker 1: if they go out and they, they own that 10
- 8:43Speaker 1: square yards around them or the 10 square feet around
- 8:45Speaker 1: them or whatever it is, the phrase that they use
- 8:49Speaker 1: in the program, they're going to be just fine and
- 8:52Speaker 1: they should win this game handily.
- 8:54Speaker 2: So assuming that they do, assuming they win by multiple
- 8:58Speaker 2: scores like we expect them to, maybe in three or
- 9:00Speaker 2: four scores, what else, Dan Sorensen, I asked this question yesterday,
- 9:06Speaker 2: what else do you feel that Utah needs to do
- 9:10Speaker 2: besides winning the game, taking care of business, and winning
- 9:13Speaker 2: big like we expect them to? What are you looking
- 9:16Speaker 2: for specifically to say, not necessarily get right, because they're undefeated,
- 9:20Speaker 2: there's nothing to get right in that regard, but maybe perfect?
- 9:23Speaker 2: in a game against Colorado that you expect to win
- 9:26Speaker 2: big in?
- 9:28Speaker 1: Yeah, look, if you look at some of the things
- 9:31Speaker 1: that maybe they struggled with last week, I'd love to
- 9:34Speaker 1: see some improvement on that. Can you get home to
- 9:36Speaker 1: the quarterback? They had no sacks against Marshall.
- 9:41Speaker 5: For Kansas.
- 9:43Speaker 1: And look, Marshall, a really elusive guy. Isaac Wilson has
- 9:47Speaker 1: his moments where he can be elusive. He's not quite
- 9:49Speaker 1: as fluid an athlete as as Marshall was, but being
- 9:53Speaker 1: able to get home and, and, and get the sack. And,
- 9:56Speaker 1: and there's a lot of talk about the defensive ends
- 9:59Speaker 1: and whether they've gotten the sack or not. And, and,
- 10:02Speaker 1: and look, that's, that's something that should be improved. I'd
- 10:05Speaker 1: love to see one of those edge guys be able
- 10:06Speaker 1: to get, get home. Finally, you can't have a a
- 10:09Speaker 1: season where your edge rushers aren't, aren't getting home and
- 10:13Speaker 1: getting those sacks, but getting the sack, completing the play
- 10:16Speaker 1: in the backfield is one thing being better at the 50,
- 10:20Speaker 1: 50 balls. I, once again, Marshall, he was so good
- 10:24Speaker 1: at the, at escaping the Utah pass rush. And then
- 10:27Speaker 1: he'd put it up there and see, yes, there were
- 10:30Speaker 1: times where he dropped dimes, where only his receiver could
- 10:33Speaker 1: get it. And frankly, we size of Wilson do that
- 10:35Speaker 1: last week against Texas tech too. So he's capable But
- 10:40Speaker 1: a lot of the 50-50 balls that Utah lost out
- 10:42Speaker 1: on last week, can the defensive back come down with it?
- 10:47Speaker 1: Can they knock it down? Can they make that big
- 10:51Speaker 1: play when they need to? Now, last week they did.
- 10:54Speaker 1: Can they make it earlier in the drive so that
- 10:57Speaker 1: the opponent's not driving all the way down the field
- 11:01Speaker 1: until you get the fourth down stop in the red
- 11:04Speaker 1: zone or you get the– the, the turnover in the,
- 11:09Speaker 1: in the, in the red zone, that kind of thing.
- 11:11Speaker 1: So those are the things that I'd like to see,
- 11:13Speaker 1: especially on the defensive side of the ball, on the
- 11:15Speaker 1: offensive side of the ball, would love to see this
- 11:18Speaker 1: team continue to, to show, to be efficient in the
- 11:23Speaker 1: way that they're moving the ball. I love the balanced attack.
- 11:26Speaker 1: I love what way Sean's bringing to the table. If you,
- 11:29Speaker 1: Utah does need to establish the run, Colorado is going
- 11:33Speaker 1: to sell out to stop the run.
- 11:34Speaker 5: If the.
- 11:37Speaker 1: If they're able to loosen them up over the top and,
- 11:40Speaker 1: and make those plays when they're there, those kinds of
- 11:43Speaker 1: things are important. And then the third thing I would
- 11:46Speaker 1: say is, is there have been in the last three games,
- 11:50Speaker 1: times where there's been mental lulls, where it's been a
- 11:52Speaker 1: drive or two or a full quarter, but would love
- 11:56Speaker 1: to see the team stay sharp until the game is
- 11:59Speaker 1: well in hand. You know, it's one thing if they're
- 12:01Speaker 1: up 30 in the fourth quarter and, and things get
- 12:04Speaker 1: a little bit sloppy, but, but again, No mental lapses
- 12:09Speaker 1: in terms of the penalties that kill drives, the penalties
- 12:13Speaker 1: that extend drives, the being out of position, the not
- 12:18Speaker 1: lining up. If Colorado goes tempo, the not getting set
- 12:23Speaker 1: in time so that you're half a step out. And
- 12:27Speaker 1: that kind of a thing is.
- 12:28Speaker 5: A big deal.
- 12:29Speaker 1: It's the difference between those 50-50 balls that Kansas was completing.
- 12:34Speaker 1: If you're half a step off... you know, if, if
- 12:37Speaker 1: you're not half a step off, you're, you're going to
- 12:39Speaker 1: stop that completion. And so those are, there are a
- 12:42Speaker 1: lot of little things that this team can work on.
- 12:46Speaker 1: And it's, and that's a great thing in my opinion,
- 12:48Speaker 1: that look, they're, they're undefeated. They're five and oh, they've
- 12:52Speaker 1: beaten every team by double digits. So they've dominated every
- 12:55Speaker 1: opponent they've had. And there's still things that need to
- 12:59Speaker 1: be worked on. There's still things that need to be
- 13:01Speaker 1: improved upon.
- 13:02Speaker 5: And as long as they.
- 13:03Speaker 1: Can stay sharp and continue to do those things and
- 13:06Speaker 1: get better at those things, especially the ones I just
- 13:08Speaker 1: rattled off. I, that's what you want to see out
- 13:11Speaker 1: of this team. And so how sharp can you get
- 13:14Speaker 1: when you get ready for that gauntlet? Because Houston at home,
- 13:18Speaker 1: Cincinnati on the road, BYU at home, that is a
- 13:22Speaker 1: tough stretch that, that this team is going to need
- 13:25Speaker 1: to be ready for.
- 13:26Speaker 2: And Arizona after that too, like it doesn't let it,
- 13:29Speaker 2: it doesn't let up after the Holy war for sure. Yeah,
- 13:32Speaker 2: you mentioned at the end there just not having those
- 13:35Speaker 2: offensive lulls, not having those mental mistakes, those stretches where
- 13:40Speaker 2: they go three and out a bunch of times or
- 13:42Speaker 2: have a turnover and some three and outs. It feels
- 13:44Speaker 2: like they've had at least one of those every game
- 13:46Speaker 2: that's almost been a quarter long or maybe just over
- 13:49Speaker 2: a quarter. It felt like it was the second quarter
- 13:53Speaker 2: last week against Kansas. The other games of the season,
- 13:55Speaker 2: it felt like it was mostly the third quarter's. And
- 13:58Speaker 2: that's the thing that I'm watching closely. And then I
- 14:01Speaker 2: also love what you said about just finishing plays on defense,
- 14:05Speaker 2: whether it's finishing pass rush and getting home and taking
- 14:09Speaker 2: down the quarterback, getting some sacks from the defensive ends
- 14:12Speaker 2: or whoever. In my opinion, obviously we expect defensive ends
- 14:16Speaker 2: to be dominant in sack numbers, but as long as
- 14:18Speaker 2: you're getting to the quarterback, it doesn't really matter if
- 14:20Speaker 2: it's a defensive end or someone else. Just get there
- 14:23Speaker 2: and finish the job.
- 14:25Speaker 3: But also.
- 14:27Speaker 2: I love that you mentioned, like, finishing plays in the
- 14:29Speaker 2: secondary too, turning some of these PBUs into interceptions or
- 14:37Speaker 2: these passes that are just barely completed, turn those into PBUs.
- 14:42Speaker 2: It feels like we're nitpicking, but it feels like the
- 14:47Speaker 2: defense has kind of just been just below the standard of, like,
- 14:53Speaker 2: we're going to make huge plays and set our offense up. in,
- 14:57Speaker 2: in great positions, or we're going to score ourselves on defense.
- 15:00Speaker 2: It feels like they're just behind that standard to start
- 15:03Speaker 2: this season. This feels like a great game to maybe
- 15:06Speaker 2: get back up to that standard.
- 15:08Speaker 5: Speaker 3 Yeah.
- 15:08Speaker 1: And that's exactly what you want to see. And well,
- 15:11Speaker 1: and it's funny because, and we are nitpicking, this is
- 15:14Speaker 1: the number one defense scoring defense in the big 12. And, and,
- 15:17Speaker 1: and when you look at the things that actually matter yet, yes,
- 15:20Speaker 1: they gave up 333 passing yards to the quarterback last week.
- 15:24Speaker 1: And And at the same time, they held the, the, the,
- 15:27Speaker 1: the top rate, the top rushing team in the big 12,
- 15:30Speaker 1: the 60 yards looked at the top rushing defense in
- 15:33Speaker 1: the conference. They they're at, they're giving up 10 points
- 15:36Speaker 1: a game. They're once again, elite in third down conversion defense.
- 15:41Speaker 1: And those are the things that matter points per game,
- 15:43Speaker 1: the third down conversion defense, the red zone scoring defense.
- 15:46Speaker 1: Like those are the stats that really, really matter. And,
- 15:49Speaker 1: and the teams that are the highest at that tend
- 15:52Speaker 1: to be the teams with the best records. And so
- 15:55Speaker 1: they're getting to some great results and they're doing it
- 15:58Speaker 1: while still needing reasons to, to improve to your point.
- 16:04Speaker 5: And so, yeah, it's, As.
- 16:07Speaker 1: Long as we can continue to see that continuous improvement,
- 16:09Speaker 1: as long as we can continue to see these guys
- 16:12Speaker 1: buying in and showing up and going out and making plays,
- 16:17Speaker 1: this is going to be a really dang good football
- 16:19Speaker 1: team all year long. And, and, and once again, it's,
- 16:22Speaker 1: it starts with Colorado again, like everything that they've done
- 16:26Speaker 1: to this point kind of doesn't count each week is
- 16:28Speaker 1: its own little, little, separate entity. And so they need
- 16:34Speaker 1: to go out and they need to prove themselves once again.
- 16:37Speaker 1: And as long as they have that attitude, as long
- 16:39Speaker 1: as they continue doing that, this is a team that's
- 16:42Speaker 1: going to go places this season.
- 16:44Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 16:45Speaker 2: And undefeated so far, we expect to remain then to
- 16:49Speaker 2: remain undefeated and have a dominant win tomorrow night in Boulder.
- 16:52Speaker 2: Before I let you go, Dan, we're talking with Dan
- 16:55Speaker 2: Sorenson from Ute zone. Our Utes Insider segment is brought
- 16:58Speaker 2: to you by Mountain Home Services here on the Sean
- 17:01Speaker 2: O'Connell Show. James Peterson filling in. Before I let you go,
- 17:04Speaker 2: got a top ten matchup in the state tomorrow. BYU
- 17:08Speaker 2: welcoming Notre Dame to Lavelle Edwards Stadium. How do you
- 17:14Speaker 2: see this one playing out? BYU seems to be getting healthier,
- 17:18Speaker 2: but still no LJ Martin. I don't know that Notre
- 17:21Speaker 2: Dame should be a double-digit favorite, but I also, looking
- 17:24Speaker 2: at the stats... Weighing the fact that BYU's best player
- 17:28Speaker 2: is not playing, I can see why these.
- 17:32Speaker 3: Sportsbooks are.
- 17:35Speaker 2: Making Notre Dame a 10.5-point favorite. But BYU's at home.
- 17:39Speaker 2: We know how tough they are at home. We know
- 17:42Speaker 2: how good that defense is. They can keep them in
- 17:44Speaker 2: games and make plays for them to make this a
- 17:48Speaker 2: much closer game if not pull off this upset. Do
- 17:50Speaker 2: you think BYU has a legitimate chance to pull off
- 17:53Speaker 2: the upset?
- 17:55Speaker 5: I mean, of course they do.
- 17:57Speaker 4: Look, we've learned time and time again that every time
- 18:01Speaker 4: some Ute fan decides to declare the demise of BYU,
- 18:06Speaker 4: they're like cockroaches in the nuclear war. You cannot count
- 18:10Speaker 4: against them.
- 18:12Speaker 1: They find a way to survive. They find a way
- 18:15Speaker 1: to survive. to, to make something happen. So of course
- 18:20Speaker 1: they can come out and, and, and, and win this
- 18:23Speaker 1: game and, and, and make Notre Dame look silly. And, and,
- 18:26Speaker 1: and if they do, you know, that's a, it's great
- 18:28Speaker 1: for the big 12 conference. I, it's not great for
- 18:31Speaker 1: Utah fans or their egos, especially the ones that, that
- 18:34Speaker 1: want BYU to lose. And so I, and I totally
- 18:36Speaker 1: understand that anybody.
- 18:38Speaker 2: In that camp, that's the best thing about rivalries, right?
- 18:42Speaker 5: That it absolutely is.
- 18:44Speaker 1: So, but, but yeah, this is a look, I don't
- 18:47Speaker 1: count out Connie's talkie ever.
- 18:49Speaker 5: I don't count out a discount. What he can do.
- 18:52Speaker 5: Do I expect Notre Dame to win this game?
- 18:54Speaker 1: 100%. Yes.
- 18:54Speaker 5: And I, and even cover on this one, but.
- 19:00Speaker 1: And to your point, like L.J. Martin's not in. Let's
- 19:03Speaker 1: see what happens. Let's see if they continue, if BYU
- 19:05Speaker 1: continues to stay healthy. Let's see whether the depth of
- 19:10Speaker 1: Notre Dame makes a difference.
- 19:12Speaker 5: But yeah, I.
- 19:15Speaker 1: An upset wouldn't shock me. I don't expect it, but
- 19:18Speaker 1: it wouldn't shock me. I've learned a long time ago,
- 19:23Speaker 1: you just don't count out BYU. If you think they're
- 19:25Speaker 1: going to go away, they're never going to go away.
- 19:28Speaker 1: It's a fact of life.
- 19:30Speaker 5: I'm 50 years old. They've never gone away.
- 19:32Speaker 1: I don't expect it to happen now, but I do
- 19:37Speaker 1: expect Notre Dame to come out on top.
- 19:39Speaker 3: Even in that nine-game win streak.
- 19:41Speaker 2: A recent win streak in the rivalry matchup that Utah
- 19:44Speaker 2: had and BYU's independence era Utah's Pac-12 era I mean
- 19:49Speaker 2: even then when you when it was on paper Utah's
- 19:52Speaker 2: dominating this team those are one-point games those are one
- 19:55Speaker 2: score games that Utah was winning most of those years
- 19:58Speaker 2: you know few exceptions there and so even when you
- 20:03Speaker 2: look at it from that regard The cockroach survival analogy
- 20:08Speaker 2: you brought up is perfect for that because you're like, okay,
- 20:11Speaker 2: every year almost every Utes fan in that win streak
- 20:16Speaker 2: was like, oh, we got this. We're going to dominate BYU.
- 20:19Speaker 2: And then BYU brings the doubt, right? They get to
- 20:24Speaker 2: last play of the game. They have a chance to
- 20:26Speaker 2: win the game. So, yeah, you cannot count out this team,
- 20:29Speaker 2: especially under Kawane Satake for sure.
- 20:31Speaker 5: No, he's, he's got them bought in. They're playing good football.
- 20:35Speaker 5: They're going to be a good football team the whole year. And,
- 20:39Speaker 5: and we'll see what happens with what they do with
- 20:42Speaker 5: the Irish. But like I said, I still expect the
- 20:44Speaker 5: Irish to win. And, and if, and if they don't, if,
- 20:47Speaker 5: if BYU comes out with the upset, upset, then fingers
- 20:51Speaker 5: crossed that they're both undefeated. Where by the time that
- 20:53Speaker 5: BYU comes into Salt Lake city, because it's going to
- 20:55Speaker 5: be the hottest game in all of college football that week.
- 20:59Speaker 2: And it's, it's, There's no other way to think about it, Dan.
- 21:03Speaker 2: A win for BYU helps Utah, assuming Utah can stay
- 21:09Speaker 2: undefeated and beat BYU in that rivalry game, in that
- 21:12Speaker 2: Holy War game.
- 21:13Speaker 3: It just helps Utah's resume.
- 21:15Speaker 2: Makes them from a playoff contender to a potential national
- 21:20Speaker 2: title contender the way that they're looked at by beating it.
- 21:23Speaker 3: It would be a top five BYU team if that's
- 21:25Speaker 3: the case.
- 21:25Speaker 2: So if you're a Utah fan, you don't have to
- 21:28Speaker 2: root for BYU, but just know in the back of
- 21:30Speaker 2: your mind if BYU wins, it's a good thing for Utah.
- 21:33Speaker 3: So it's not the worst thing in the world if
- 21:35Speaker 3: they pull off this upset.
- 21:37Speaker 2: Thank you so much for, uh, for taking the time, man,
- 21:40Speaker 2: for coming on, bringing the insight. Uh, we'll, uh, we'll
- 21:43Speaker 2: talk with you guys, you and Sammy again next week.
- 21:47Speaker 5: Thanks for having me on. Have a great weekend and
- 21:49Speaker 5: have a good game this weekend. Yeah.
- 21:51Speaker 2: That's a Dan Sorenson, Ute zone publisher on a Ute
- 21:55Speaker 2: zone Friday. Typically we do Ute zone Wednesdays. Devin, Dan
- 21:58Speaker 2: peer ended up having to be live on a Wednesday
- 22:01Speaker 2: this week. So bumped our guy, Dan Sorenson, happy that
- 22:05Speaker 2: he had the time to come on, uh, Just now.
